- 0:34Speaker 1: I'm here, Hey, everybody, welcome to another episode of The Tailgate,
- 0:42Speaker 1: brought to you by Ticketmaster. It's me, your host, cy Onminson,
- 0:47Speaker 1: sitting across from me, your co host, the Great Chad Daniels.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Your favorite team is still over in Europe. They're recovering
- 0:54Speaker 1: from a loss in Ireland. They're headed England way, and
- 0:58Speaker 1: now we got to get one before we come home. Chad,
- 1:02Speaker 1: this is a I don't want to be dramatic. I
- 1:05Speaker 1: don't want to start the show. I'm dramatic too often,
- 1:07Speaker 1: so I don't want to start the show dramatic. But
- 1:10Speaker 1: like I always assume, to fly home after a loss
- 1:15Speaker 1: sucks and the only experience I have. We both grew
- 1:19Speaker 1: up rural, didn't go to a lot of sporting events
- 1:21Speaker 1: as little kids. I went to my first Viking game,
- 1:25Speaker 1: I believe I was a senior in high school, and
- 1:29Speaker 1: we want it, But I always had that thing like
- 1:31Speaker 1: if we'd have lost, that three and a half hour
- 1:34Speaker 1: drive home with a loss hits a lot different in
- 1:38Speaker 1: your face paint than the twenty minute drive back to
- 1:42Speaker 1: a dina. And that's that's what I think about with
- 1:45Speaker 1: these England games, Like, dude, if you take an L
- 1:49Speaker 1: in England and then they're like, well, now let's traverse
- 1:53Speaker 1: the globe as losers. Ugh, don't don't care for it.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I know you don't believe in jet lag with pfe athletes,
- 2:00Speaker 2: but I think this is going to be great. That
- 2:02Speaker 2: they're sitting over do you do it? That's because you
- 2:05Speaker 2: told me last week. So I think that they're going
- 2:07Speaker 2: to be great sitting over there practicing in their normal time,
- 2:11Speaker 2: because I think it would be horrible to have to
- 2:15Speaker 2: take that flight home. Because I remember going from Minneapolis
- 2:19Speaker 2: to Fergus Falls after the Timberwolves got destroyed by the
- 2:24Speaker 2: Bulls and they should have and I didn't even get
- 2:26Speaker 2: to see Michael Jordan because my back was against the metrodome. Ceiling,
- 2:30Speaker 2: and so there are those times. But I will tell
- 2:33Speaker 2: you the first time ever came to a Twins game,
- 2:35Speaker 2: we parked for some reason way over on the campus
- 2:39Speaker 2: and I got to see two people kiss for the
- 2:42Speaker 2: first time ever live that weren't my parents, And that
- 2:44Speaker 2: was a pretty cool trip home.
- 2:46Speaker 1: What an origin story for you and how you think
- 2:49Speaker 1: you did?
- 2:50Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I think it's more not even worrying about the players.
- 2:53Speaker 1: So our normal producer, Jay Nelson is not with us today.
- 2:57Speaker 1: We have sub producers, and honestly, they're gunning for the job.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I think they're doing great. They're gunning for the job,
- 3:03Speaker 1: and it feels like they have a chance.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Well, because I did hear when we brought Jay up,
- 3:08Speaker 2: both of them at the same time, said jab.
- 3:10Speaker 1: I heard one of them go, so the h he
- 3:16Speaker 1: flew He flew over there for the Ireland game, I'm sure,
- 3:20Speaker 1: and he wasn't there for a full week of hanging
- 3:21Speaker 1: out in Ireland. He's like, I'm gonna go there as
- 3:23Speaker 1: a fan even though he works for the team. And
- 3:26Speaker 1: then we lost and then they were like, hey, you know,
- 3:29Speaker 1: your normal flight no longer happening. We're gonna send you
- 3:33Speaker 1: on a side flight. Four hours the wrong way and
- 3:36Speaker 1: then all the way back. That's a tough when you
- 3:39Speaker 1: love a football team, that's a tough draw to be
- 3:42Speaker 1: going the wrong way across the globe. So I do
- 3:46Speaker 1: have a lot of friends who are going to the
- 3:48Speaker 1: England game. And yeah, I mean not just for myself
- 3:51Speaker 1: or sake of needing the team to win, because the
- 3:55Speaker 1: schedule coming up. Daddy, Yeah, you need.
- 3:58Speaker 2: You need to get on the right side of the
- 4:00Speaker 2: scales of justice. There's no doubt about it.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Before we see the Eagles, Ravens and Lions.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Oh my yes, I think we could take Ravens out
- 4:08Speaker 2: of there. Listen, thanks Dereck Henry in fantasy this year
- 4:11Speaker 2: and guess what hard pass. Listen to this. So I
- 4:17Speaker 2: love that Jay is telling everybody that the airline did this,
- 4:22Speaker 2: when really he just needed a long layover in Amsterdam.
- 4:25Speaker 1: After that long we get it feels like he needed
- 4:28Speaker 1: more than anything, a break from the two of us.
- 4:30Speaker 1: It feels personal. H No, Probably we play the Steelers.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I don't care for the Steelers like I don't mind,
- 4:37Speaker 1: but we have a lot We talked about this last week.
- 4:40Speaker 1: They've had a lot of success. I don't need to
- 4:42Speaker 1: root even if I like Mike Tomlin, even if I
- 4:45Speaker 1: like our friends who like the Steelers, I don't need
- 4:47Speaker 1: to root for the Steelers. Now the Browns much like
- 4:50Speaker 1: the Bengals in this AFC North run we're on. If
- 4:54Speaker 1: there is any fan base that I think comes toe
- 4:58Speaker 1: to toe with the miser of the Minnesota fan, it
- 5:02Speaker 1: is it is the Clear and I think they get
- 5:04Speaker 1: the I think they have the upper hand. I think
- 5:06Speaker 1: had Lebron James never been there, had they not won
- 5:08Speaker 1: that Like, sure, you know the Guardians have won some titles,
- 5:12Speaker 1: but I think specifically in football, they have a hand
- 5:16Speaker 1: at a table right next to ours with the oh my,
- 5:20Speaker 1: oh my gosh, this is terrible and we are we're
- 5:23Speaker 1: miserable when we've been close so many times because I
- 5:27Speaker 1: think when you are one of those teams who's who've like,
- 5:29Speaker 1: never won anything, and I wonder if this is the
- 5:32Speaker 1: same way if the Niners have this or the Steelers
- 5:34Speaker 1: have this, but we have memorable moments with names that
- 5:39Speaker 1: went against us. Yeah, right, the Hail Mary was invented
- 5:43Speaker 1: against us, the Hail Mary game, right, the kick, the
- 5:47Speaker 1: Gary Anderson kicks. So the Browns, I mean, you want
- 5:52Speaker 1: to talk about taking an iconic name like blow like
- 5:57Speaker 1: at a really hard time twice in row. So it's
- 6:00Speaker 1: eighty seven like that is the drive. That's the John
- 6:05Speaker 1: Lay And I think we have a lot of people
- 6:07Speaker 1: who are younger who like maybe know what that is.
- 6:09Speaker 1: They've heard it. But to break the specifics of that down,
- 6:14Speaker 1: there are five minutes and forty three seconds left. The
- 6:18Speaker 1: Browns score to go up twenty thirteen, and then this
- 6:22Speaker 1: dude ken Bell misplays the ensuing kickoff and it's on
- 6:26Speaker 1: the two yard line. They've got to go ninety eight
- 6:30Speaker 1: yards to tie. Now, every Viking fan right now is going, well,
- 6:34Speaker 1: of course they're gonna, but I don't. That's not what
- 6:35Speaker 1: other people feel. No one in Seattle feels that. That's
- 6:40Speaker 1: what we feel, and that's what the Browns feel. So
- 6:42Speaker 1: that's the iconic Lway drive horrible, right.
- 6:46Speaker 2: And when you we're saying things like the drive, think
- 6:50Speaker 2: of how many drives there have been and this is
- 6:53Speaker 2: the drive, the drive, and everyone knows this is like
- 6:55Speaker 2: when you say Madonna or Share, everybody knows what you're
- 6:59Speaker 2: talking about. That's an embarrassing field.
- 7:01Speaker 1: This one's if you think that's bad. So they right,
- 7:05Speaker 1: they losing that AFC Championship game. They were prime to
- 7:07Speaker 1: go to the super Bowl. But there's this feeling obviously
- 7:10Speaker 1: in Cleveland. The time is they had a very good
- 7:12Speaker 1: team and they will be back, and they did get
- 7:13Speaker 1: back to another AFC Championship game and they are on
- 7:19Speaker 1: it's They drove to the Denver eight yard line with
- 7:22Speaker 1: a minute twelve left, right Bernie Cosar hands it off
- 7:27Speaker 1: to Ernest Beiner. He bounces, he bounces back outside and
- 7:31Speaker 1: he fumbles and they lose that game. It's like a
- 7:35Speaker 1: like I said, a minute twelve remaining that is forever
- 7:38Speaker 1: referred to as the fumble.
- 7:40Speaker 2: That's yeah, that's true.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Of all the fumbles, you're the fumble that sucks. I
- 7:44Speaker 1: couldn't even think of what the vite. I know what
- 7:47Speaker 1: the pick is. When you say, if somebody were to
- 7:50Speaker 1: say the interception, do you do you go to the
- 7:53Speaker 1: right place as a Viking fan, don't know farther across
- 7:56Speaker 1: the body for me.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Oh, I mean that's a big I mean, but you
- 8:01Speaker 2: know what I was. Also, you'd say the fumble, and
- 8:03Speaker 2: I have a bunch of other ideas.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Sure, can I tell you?
- 8:10Speaker 2: I think they just got it early. That's that's what's
- 8:12Speaker 2: happening here?
- 8:13Speaker 1: Can you the other thing that I do? And you're
- 8:16Speaker 1: a huge hockey guy, so this is relevant to watch
- 8:20Speaker 1: a beloved team move from a city and have that
- 8:24Speaker 1: owner become a villain to the city like we did
- 8:27Speaker 1: with the north Stars, the the Browns moving and that
- 8:31Speaker 1: whole song, like, but I'm not as big a hockey
- 8:34Speaker 1: guy if you have. The Dallas Stars won a title.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Yeah, and let me tell you, let me tell you
- 8:39Speaker 2: that we yeah, we almost well, we were right there.
- 8:44Speaker 2: We we were on the doorstep. And that's the year
- 8:48Speaker 2: they moved. And my first my first album. Instead of
- 8:51Speaker 2: a thank you list, it's a letter to Norm Green
- 8:54Speaker 2: for moving the team, and it's not great. I had
- 8:56Speaker 2: to put it on the inside.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Also our city because of that. No one ever talks
- 9:03Speaker 1: about this, because I don't think anybody cares about team
- 9:06Speaker 1: names as much as I do. But we had the
- 9:09Speaker 1: shot at having I like, in my opinion, the iconic
- 9:14Speaker 1: collection of team names. Had no one ever been moved
- 9:19Speaker 1: right right the north Stars. I believe the Minnesota north
- 9:23Speaker 1: Stars was the best team name in the entire NHL.
- 9:27Speaker 1: That is my personal opinion. It sucks that it's the
- 9:29Speaker 1: Dallas Stars. I think that's horrific, I but also maybe
- 9:36Speaker 1: the greatest name in the history of professional sports, and
- 9:39Speaker 1: it still is because they went on to all their success.
- 9:42Speaker 1: But the Minneapolis Lakers the Lakers, we could be the
- 9:45Speaker 1: Minneapolis Lakers, the Minnesota Vikings, the Minnesota north Stars, and
- 9:50Speaker 1: the Minnesota Twins.
- 9:51Speaker 2: That's pretty It's untouchable for names.
- 9:53Speaker 1: It's untouchable for names, and yet it feels so touchable
- 9:57Speaker 1: for lack of titles. Here's what I will say though,
- 10:00Speaker 1: like and now, because I think if you're trying to
- 10:03Speaker 1: pick out the teams in the NFL that I think
- 10:06Speaker 1: we can share misery with and root for, it's a
- 10:10Speaker 1: very small list. You and I both love the Buffalo Bills.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Bills, yeah, owen foreign Super Bowls just like the virus.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Really really really easy to root for them. The Detroit Lions,
- 10:20Speaker 1: even though they're in the same division, Like, until we're eliminated,
- 10:24Speaker 1: I want them to lose. But once we're eliminated, as
- 10:26Speaker 1: long as it's not by them, you know, Like I
- 10:31Speaker 1: think the Lions, and then I think it's the Bengals.
- 10:34Speaker 1: It's the Bengals and the Browns because some of the
- 10:35Speaker 1: other ones that have struggled, like the Jags and some
- 10:38Speaker 1: other players like there's just not the the long history
- 10:42Speaker 1: where with the Vikings, And I think this is the
- 10:44Speaker 1: same way with the Browns. Had you been successful, had
- 10:47Speaker 1: you want to had the I'm of the firm belief
- 10:50Speaker 1: we've talked about this before, had you won two of
- 10:52Speaker 1: those Super Bowls, and going back to that Hail Mary
- 10:55Speaker 1: game that fran Tarkentin says that was the he believes
- 10:59Speaker 1: that was his envy season. He thinks that's the best
- 11:02Speaker 1: team they ever had. So that would have been a
- 11:04Speaker 1: fifth super Bowl trip. And if you even win two titles,
- 11:08Speaker 1: I think we are in the conversation with the Packers Niners.
- 11:13Speaker 1: You know, Steelers, Cowboys, the more iconic franchise, and the
- 11:17Speaker 1: Browns had a couple of big misses in that same way.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Yeah, and I don't think you. I think these cities
- 11:23Speaker 2: that you're talking about they can't win. I mean, I
- 11:25Speaker 2: believe that they could talent wise, but I'm saying for
- 11:29Speaker 2: the fan base, you can't. It's so cold in Minnesota,
- 11:33Speaker 2: it's so cold in Buffalo, it's cold in Cleveland. These
- 11:37Speaker 2: are all you know, started off as blue collar cities.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Cincinnati at two cities in Ohio, and the fan base
- 11:46Speaker 2: needs to go to work and they need to get up,
- 11:49Speaker 2: and they need while they're while they're trying to start
- 11:52Speaker 2: their car when it's twenty below zero, they need to
- 11:55Speaker 2: be able to say, well, at least we're not the Browns.
- 11:59Speaker 1: You know, you're saying, you're saying, the Browns need to
- 12:01Speaker 1: keep losing so we can have see.
- 12:04Speaker 2: I'm saying everybody, I'm saying, I'm just saying, like, it
- 12:07Speaker 2: is interesting.
- 12:07Speaker 1: When the Browns go at least we're not the Vikings,
- 12:09Speaker 1: and the Vikings go at least we're not the Lions,
- 12:11Speaker 1: and the Bills go at least we're not the Bengals.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Like it's just a circular. What I would say is
- 12:18Speaker 1: it's really interesting getting to know all these other fan
- 12:21Speaker 1: bases when you kind of do this on a week
- 12:23Speaker 1: to week basis, because that same misery the Bills oh
- 12:26Speaker 1: for four, the Vikings oh for four with the championship loss,
- 12:30Speaker 1: the Browns, the move their losses, the Lions, the thirties,
- 12:34Speaker 1: everybody handles it really differently. It's almost like, you know,
- 12:38Speaker 1: the this is this metaphor sucks Chad. But do you
- 12:44Speaker 1: remember the movie The Mask?
- 12:46Speaker 2: Of course?
- 12:47Speaker 1: So when uh, when the mask would go on whatever
- 12:52Speaker 1: was inside that. Like Jim Carey was silly, so he
- 12:55Speaker 1: became a cartoon character. Dorian Gray was evil, so he
- 12:58Speaker 1: became you know, big evil guy. The mask kind of
- 13:02Speaker 1: elevates the personality of the person to this large level.
- 13:06Speaker 1: I think that's what losing does to a city where
- 13:09Speaker 1: Minnesota is so passive aggressive, yeah, and so like friendly
- 13:14Speaker 1: not friendly. We become Charlie Brown where you go to
- 13:17Speaker 1: the Browns, like we're constantly tricked by Hope where every season,
- 13:24Speaker 1: Here's what I'm gonna tell you, whether it's Carson Wentz
- 13:26Speaker 1: or JJ McCarthy, first touchdown that gets thrown on Sunday
- 13:31Speaker 1: against the Browns, a large percentage of our fan base
- 13:34Speaker 1: to be like here we go, and then the first
- 13:37Speaker 1: mistake we make that same large percentage of go, well
- 13:41Speaker 1: it happened again. It happened again. Like we ride, we
- 13:47Speaker 1: ride the wave, whereas like the Browns they stand so
- 13:54Speaker 1: far on shore trash talking the way. Whereas in Buffalo, Oh,
- 14:00Speaker 1: they're like, what if I put my emotion through this
- 14:02Speaker 1: table with my body exactly. It's interesting to see how
- 14:06Speaker 1: each city puts the mask on to close the metaphor
- 14:10Speaker 1: thank you it was a good one.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Well you were. I think you're absolutely correct. That metaphor sucked. Now.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I used to have to watch the Vikings with a
- 14:21Speaker 2: certain group of people, and the leader of that group
- 14:23Speaker 2: of people, I'm telling you, if if the kickoff return
- 14:28Speaker 2: wasn't to the twenty yard line, he would go now
- 14:32Speaker 2: game's over. It was super fun.
- 14:34Speaker 1: So I do know what you're talking about the US.
- 14:37Speaker 1: If that is a shot at me, I don't believe
- 14:40Speaker 1: it to be accurate. So I'm really I know that
- 14:42Speaker 1: I'm up and down a lot, but that can't be
- 14:44Speaker 1: about me.
- 14:45Speaker 2: You are up and down in a completely different way.
- 14:48Speaker 2: That's laughable. This was just annoying. This is nine.
- 14:51Speaker 1: That's great. It feels good. Normally the shots are so
- 14:54Speaker 1: veiled that it's hard for me to see through them
- 14:57Speaker 1: to see if they hit my torso or not.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Well, I think it's because you have so many unlikable
- 15:03Speaker 2: qualities that you always think a negative comment is about you.
- 15:07Speaker 1: That brother, pot, why don't you lay off the kettle
- 15:11Speaker 1: for a second. Here the Browns and Vikings like they do,
- 15:16Speaker 1: despite having like similar misery, there is also kind of
- 15:20Speaker 1: an intense history. I mean, that's the miracle at the
- 15:22Speaker 1: met game. That's I think because it happened so long
- 15:26Speaker 1: ago and the Browns that we don't play a lot,
- 15:30Speaker 1: but I mean twenty three to nine fourth quarter vikings,
- 15:33Speaker 1: they score a touchdown with two remaining, and the interesting
- 15:37Speaker 1: thing about that game is, I think everybody thinks it
- 15:39Speaker 1: was like it wasn't a just well and then they
- 15:42Speaker 1: got the on side kick. They didn't get the on
- 15:45Speaker 1: side kick, but the Browns get a penalty. They end
- 15:48Speaker 1: up having a punt and that's the old Oki dokie
- 15:51Speaker 1: Hail Mary tip Ahmad Rashad game winning touchdown. Man. That
- 15:57Speaker 1: is a the Browns have been at the bottom of
- 16:01Speaker 1: like we're kind of also the team who ended their
- 16:05Speaker 1: I guess I caught like the Browns were really successful
- 16:09Speaker 1: up through the eighties. That was their kind of first
- 16:12Speaker 1: run and we really put it on them back in
- 16:14Speaker 1: eighty like twenty eight, twenty three and kind of kind
- 16:18Speaker 1: of put them down and signified the beginning of a
- 16:22Speaker 1: streak where the Browns would not win a playoff game
- 16:25Speaker 1: until I believe the eighty six eighty six yep. Yeah,
- 16:30Speaker 1: and then that would lead and now to time hot
- 16:33Speaker 1: back that would lead them the other direction. Yeah.
- 16:36Speaker 2: It is It is fun to do stuff like that
- 16:38Speaker 2: because you have people come in, you know, they come
- 16:40Speaker 2: to Minnesota from other teams that they're fans of, and
- 16:44Speaker 2: they go, well, if you won a super Bowl, and
- 16:46Speaker 2: then you have to pull out obscure facts like no,
- 16:49Speaker 2: but we did make sure the Browns didn't win a
- 16:52Speaker 2: playoff game for six years. Nice?
- 16:54Speaker 1: Try welcome. Let's talk about miracle at the met that
- 16:57Speaker 1: didn't lead to a super Bowl, or the minute Soda
- 17:00Speaker 1: miracle that didn't lead to a super Bowl, or ninety
- 17:03Speaker 1: eight that didn't lead to a super Bowl. I think
- 17:07Speaker 1: I'm not smart enough to answer this, and I don't
- 17:09Speaker 1: think we should. We need to talk about the game.
- 17:11Speaker 1: I don't think we should spend our time on this.
- 17:12Speaker 2: But I.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Wonder when you start talking about close chances, what in
- 17:21Speaker 1: any of the pro sports. Obviously the Red Sox and
- 17:24Speaker 1: obviously the Cubs, but those are both won. Now, yep,
- 17:27Speaker 1: what in terms of not just not winning a title.
- 17:32Speaker 1: It's us and the Bills. But have the Bills had
- 17:34Speaker 1: We have the four loss super Bowls, and we have
- 17:37Speaker 1: the iconic like Gary Anderson kick, you know, we have
- 17:42Speaker 1: the iconic Farv interception. I think we probably have more
- 17:46Speaker 1: chances than it. The Knicks have a few, but they
- 17:50Speaker 1: haven't been success. I don't think you know, John Stark's
- 17:53Speaker 1: almost hitting that three, but I don't think anyone else
- 17:56Speaker 1: in any pro sport is even close.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Yeah, but you look the fan base of the Red
- 18:01Speaker 2: Sox and the Cubs, and they didn't know what to
- 18:05Speaker 2: do when they won. There was nothing to complain about.
- 18:08Speaker 2: There was no more like they went to bed confused.
- 18:12Speaker 2: So I mean we still have that, We still have that.
- 18:16Speaker 1: The Socks went on such a run. Can I tell
- 18:18Speaker 1: you something with confidence? If we transition to a dynasty
- 18:24Speaker 1: phase the way the Red Sox did, where you're just
- 18:28Speaker 1: competitive forever and you win a few twos like, I
- 18:31Speaker 1: think I will handle that well. I think I will
- 18:33Speaker 1: move from the misery to the unlikable wins too much
- 18:38Speaker 1: team like. But I think you're right. Boston and the
- 18:41Speaker 1: Cubs fans struggled with that. Not me.
- 18:43Speaker 2: They struggle. I'm not going to struggle either. I have
- 18:45Speaker 2: spent so much time in therapy talking about my family,
- 18:50Speaker 2: but now what I spend it on is how am
- 18:52Speaker 2: I going to sleep correctly in February after we win
- 18:56Speaker 2: the Super Bowl? That is a lot of my sessions.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely can't agree more. Can I tell you one
- 19:01Speaker 1: more thing about Cleveland before we do the game, please?
- 19:04Speaker 1: I do think it's an underrated city. I know it's
- 19:07Speaker 1: had its Hey, the lake caught on fire moments and
- 19:12Speaker 1: it's been a little It was a river.
- 19:14Speaker 2: I'm just gonna throw it out. It was a river.
- 19:16Speaker 2: A lot of cities will put on fire.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Works like Eerie didn't like Erie catch on fire.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Well maybe because the river. I don't know. Maybe the
- 19:24Speaker 2: crow that was fiction.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Yeah, but I think they reference it anyways. Yeah, it's
- 19:29Speaker 1: the river. Go ahead, it's the river.
- 19:31Speaker 2: No, I'm just saying, like a lot of you know,
- 19:33Speaker 2: it's it's congratulations to them for saying like, we see
- 19:37Speaker 2: your fireworks and we raise you a river on fire.
- 19:41Speaker 1: I love the people that I think some of the
- 19:43Speaker 1: best comedy crowds. We both do comedy, some of the best. Yeah,
- 19:46Speaker 1: I and an interesting I think we were talking about
- 19:50Speaker 1: that personality, an interestingly loyal group of people that whether
- 19:55Speaker 1: the sports built it or not. I remember I was
- 19:57Speaker 1: performing at one of the best clubs in America. Hilarity
- 20:00Speaker 1: that we both love absolutely.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Nick is top shelf.
- 20:04Speaker 1: The kitchen caught on fire and the power went out
- 20:07Speaker 1: and we had to finish the show in the dark.
- 20:09Speaker 1: And the second show, they were willing to get people
- 20:12Speaker 1: their money back, or they could go stand out in
- 20:15Speaker 1: the alley and they'd put a speaker out there and
- 20:18Speaker 1: I would perform out in the alley and Everybody's like, well,
- 20:20Speaker 1: we wanted to do comedy, and they all watched an
- 20:23Speaker 1: alley show. So I think there's a perseverance to the city.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Now, let me ask you, did the kitchen really start
- 20:30Speaker 2: on fire or is this like Lake Erie? Yeah, it
- 20:33Speaker 2: did start on fire, Okay, I do think. Now let
- 20:35Speaker 2: me ask you this question. Is Cleveland going to be
- 20:39Speaker 2: a great comedy city if the Browns win a Super Bowl?
- 20:43Speaker 2: Because right now you know they Cleveland fans. Can they
- 20:48Speaker 2: they come to the comedy show and they take a
- 20:50Speaker 2: joke and they laugh at themselves and everything is really fun.
- 20:55Speaker 2: If they win, can they laugh at themselves? Or now
- 20:59Speaker 2: are they like, hey, not interested in you making fun
- 21:02Speaker 2: of us? We won a Super Bowl.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I don't think we should worry about that.
- 21:06Speaker 2: No, I'm guess what. I haven't talked about that in
- 21:10Speaker 2: therapy ever.
- 21:11Speaker 1: What have you ever been to the Christmas story House there?
- 21:16Speaker 2: No? I have not, but I know it's there, and
- 21:18Speaker 2: I think it's interesting because across the street here is
- 21:22Speaker 2: a like a really well known dive bar, and that's
- 21:25Speaker 2: not in the movie.
- 21:26Speaker 1: No, correct, it absolutely is not the there's two I didn't.
- 21:30Speaker 1: I was gonna go this year when I did Hilarities.
- 21:32Speaker 1: And then also on the way, did you know that
- 21:34Speaker 1: on the way, not far from Cleveland, you can go
- 21:37Speaker 1: visit the actual Shawshank.
- 21:39Speaker 2: No, yeah, now, like it was in the northeast.
- 21:41Speaker 1: The guy who is opening for me, who I like
- 21:43Speaker 1: a great deal, sure, showed up just late enough that
- 21:46Speaker 1: it put us just behind enough that I couldn't go
- 21:48Speaker 1: to Shawshank and send my dad a video from Shawshank,
- 21:52Speaker 1: which has scored me some huge sun points. But yeah,
- 21:57Speaker 1: it's it's a good city. But I want him to
- 22:00Speaker 1: lose Chad. I do too.
- 22:02Speaker 2: We need this one. We got to have this one.
- 22:04Speaker 1: The injury thing is getting out of control, and I don't.
- 22:07Speaker 1: I never dislike how dumb I am more than when
- 22:11Speaker 1: because you meet these people in the medical field who
- 22:15Speaker 1: you hear what the injuries do a football player, and
- 22:17Speaker 1: they go, here's what's happening here. You know, our friend Eric,
- 22:19Speaker 1: who's a physical therapist. He goes, that's I would guess
- 22:22Speaker 1: he's gonna be out this week. And by the way,
- 22:24Speaker 1: no matter what teams say around the league, he always
- 22:27Speaker 1: nails it almost exactly.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll call him before fantasy my lineup because a
- 22:33Speaker 2: cube by my guy. I don't care about that. I
- 22:35Speaker 2: don't care what anybody has to say except him.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Let's get Eric's opinion on this. The O line thing
- 22:40Speaker 1: is nuts, I think, yeah, no kidding. I don't know
- 22:45Speaker 1: how you deal with that. I know that when you're
- 22:47Speaker 1: in Europe it's hard to get someone in there for
- 22:51Speaker 1: some extra depth. So with such a well, let me
- 22:56Speaker 1: ask before I say that, let me ask you this
- 22:58Speaker 1: because I think going into these because the Cleveland just
- 23:03Speaker 1: got smoked by Detroit and they took a seven er
- 23:06Speaker 1: lead and then it was an avalanche going into that game.
- 23:10Speaker 1: They you know, fewest yards per game two hundred and four.
- 23:14Speaker 1: And it's not like they were playing nobody's They played
- 23:16Speaker 1: Joe Burrow in week one. That's a very good team.
- 23:20Speaker 1: I think they had the Ravens and the Packers, so
- 23:23Speaker 1: that's a very legit schedule. But the Lions, their offense
- 23:28Speaker 1: going into the game was ranked second in scoring first
- 23:30Speaker 1: in EPA per play, and so I was very curious
- 23:34Speaker 1: to see what happened when those forces met one another,
- 23:38Speaker 1: and it was a crushing by the Lions. So my
- 23:43Speaker 1: question to you, as a guy who watches a lot
- 23:46Speaker 1: of football, do we think that is more about how
- 23:49Speaker 1: excellent the Lions are or do we think maybe the
- 23:53Speaker 1: defense was in his guy, I'm worried that it's the
- 23:55Speaker 1: and this is my bad fan psychology, that it's the
- 23:59Speaker 1: worst of both. The Lions are so good, which affects
- 24:03Speaker 1: us when we have to play them and their defense
- 24:05Speaker 1: is still excellent. That's that's the terrible attitude I'm bringing, right.
- 24:09Speaker 2: I think the Browns defense is excellent. Yeah, I really do.
- 24:13Speaker 2: What Packer game? I don't did they.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Blocked excellent, very fun Packers at a field goal to win,
- 24:20Speaker 1: they block it, they turn it the other way, they
- 24:23Speaker 1: go down, they kick a field goal at the gun,
- 24:25Speaker 1: they win the game.
- 24:26Speaker 2: I know, I just wanted to hear it again. I
- 24:29Speaker 2: think that their defense is the real deal. So I
- 24:33Speaker 2: think that if we get the right scheme, I think
- 24:38Speaker 2: that they are beatable. They've been they right, They're proven
- 24:40Speaker 2: to be beatable.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I think so, And I wonder that brings me
- 24:45Speaker 1: back to my point is when you're playing a defense
- 24:47Speaker 1: that good and you have an O line that is
- 24:50Speaker 1: dealing with what it's dealing with. I think this is
- 24:53Speaker 1: one of those games, Like even though the Browns might
- 24:55Speaker 1: not have a great record, I think it's a pretty
- 24:57Speaker 1: unique challenge. Yeah, you know, I saw in some publication
- 25:02Speaker 1: the Vikings were ranked across the board the best coaching
- 25:06Speaker 1: staff when you took all the coordinators and the head
- 25:09Speaker 1: coach into consideration in the league. And I think that
- 25:12Speaker 1: wasn't necessarily like universal, but a lot of people supported that.
- 25:17Speaker 1: And then I think on ESPN last week they were
- 25:20Speaker 1: they were having the conversation if you were having a
- 25:22Speaker 1: coach's draft right now, like who would you take first?
- 25:25Speaker 1: In Greenee's all in on koc So I think this
- 25:30Speaker 1: is going to be one of those moments. It would
- 25:33Speaker 1: be such a feather in the cap of the team
- 25:37Speaker 1: and the coachings if you can get this win dealing
- 25:40Speaker 1: with the things you're dealing with from an injury standpoint
- 25:44Speaker 1: against the thing that they bring in, which is a
- 25:47Speaker 1: defense that could completely no matter what you're capable of
- 25:49Speaker 1: on both sides, they can control the game. If their
- 25:53Speaker 1: line is playing really well, and our line is struggling
- 25:55Speaker 1: due to injuries. So if you can to your point,
- 25:57Speaker 1: if you somehow scheme up a way to be really
- 25:59Speaker 1: successful this game, and then you can go home, and
- 26:01Speaker 1: you get into bye week, and you go in three
- 26:03Speaker 1: and two. Now I want now we get to play.
- 26:06Speaker 1: The fun game is now we play. We got a
- 26:08Speaker 1: few matchups in a row where nobody thinks we're gonna win.
- 26:11Speaker 1: You go into that Egos game, that Ravens game, that
- 26:13Speaker 1: Lions game. I think a lot of people are gonna
- 26:16Speaker 1: Now you go steal a couple of those. You're right
- 26:18Speaker 1: back on a really fun path. So I unique challenge.
- 26:23Speaker 1: But if the coaching staff can pull it off, this
- 26:25Speaker 1: one would be who And.
- 26:27Speaker 2: I'm gonna throw this out there. I'm gonna throw this
- 26:29Speaker 2: out there. I have airline tickets purchased from Minneapolis to London,
- 26:33Speaker 2: Chicago to London, Madison, Wisconsin to London. I am willing
- 26:38Speaker 2: to go in for a play if you need me,
- 26:40Speaker 2: no contract needed. I'm just willing to give an offensive
- 26:44Speaker 2: lineman a breather. We're gonna need a rollout package at
- 26:48Speaker 2: that point because I'm just gonna I'm just gonna turn
- 26:51Speaker 2: my body and get pummeled. And that's fine, but it's
- 26:54Speaker 2: gonna it's going to delay them seconds.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Can I ask you? Because I think what you're I
- 27:00Speaker 1: love it, and I've thought about this for you for
- 27:02Speaker 1: a while now ever since you joined the show. Is
- 27:05Speaker 1: this show the path for you to become an asset
- 27:08Speaker 1: for the team, like you know in baseball? Like you remember
- 27:11Speaker 1: in Major League, one of our favorite movies where they
- 27:14Speaker 1: send dorn In to get hit by the pitch.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Yes, that's me, that's you. That's exactly me. I am
- 27:22Speaker 2: the Roger dorn for these Minnesota Vikings. Use me however
- 27:27Speaker 2: you need to use me.
- 27:29Speaker 1: And here's where I think I need to use you.
- 27:31Speaker 1: I need here's the thing. What's the Toby Key song?
- 27:35Speaker 1: Yan't as good as he once was, but you're as
- 27:37Speaker 1: good once as he ever was. Come on, brother, I
- 27:40Speaker 1: say we get you on a screen, right, because here's
- 27:44Speaker 1: the thing. Even at your advanced age, you got a
- 27:46Speaker 1: quick A to B. Once you get to B, you
- 27:48Speaker 1: can't go to C.
- 27:49Speaker 2: A lot of breathing, A lot of breathing at B.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it was a really hard route to
- 27:54Speaker 1: be for you. Yeah, but you got there and everybody went, oh,
- 27:57Speaker 1: he gets to be quick. Let's see what happens next.
- 28:00Speaker 1: I'm thank you.
- 28:02Speaker 2: I stay at B.
- 28:03Speaker 1: So if we run a sc and I'm not a coach,
- 28:05Speaker 1: I don't know how to draw stuff up, but I'm saying,
- 28:07Speaker 1: if we run one of those screens where that center
- 28:09Speaker 1: has to pull out, so Chad's playing center, center has
- 28:12Speaker 1: to pull out, if you can get from A to
- 28:13Speaker 1: B and you could just sacrifice your body into a
- 28:18Speaker 1: mild Garrett or one of these linebackers one play, what
- 28:22Speaker 1: happens to you. I don't know the consequences to your legs,
- 28:27Speaker 1: your elbows, your nose. I don't know, but I think
- 28:31Speaker 1: that's a good story to tell. I think we'd all
- 28:33Speaker 1: be very proud of you, and you can get a
- 28:35Speaker 1: nice breather. You set up one good play. Minnesota is
- 28:38Speaker 1: Vince Papali. I love it.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Here is my pitch to the coaches. I went to
- 28:44Speaker 2: a community college in Fergus Falls, and the nose tackle
- 28:48Speaker 2: for the team was all conference and one time, during
- 28:51Speaker 2: a pickup football game after the season, I went up
- 28:55Speaker 2: against him. I was center, I was snapping the ball,
- 28:57Speaker 2: no big deal of shotgun formation, and he chopped my
- 29:04Speaker 2: arm at the elbow, and I thought my spine had snapped.
- 29:09Speaker 2: So I've been in this situation before. I'm happy to
- 29:12Speaker 2: do it again for these vikings. You have my number,
- 29:16Speaker 2: use it.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Let's see. Because you remember, when you're young, neither of
- 29:22Speaker 1: us actually played football. You play backyard football with your friends,
- 29:26Speaker 1: and I remember thinking like, man, I'm like cause I
- 29:29Speaker 1: think I was a little bigger than some of the
- 29:31Speaker 1: people we played besides a little hard to tackle, and
- 29:33Speaker 1: you get a little so I kind of had this
- 29:35Speaker 1: idea like, oh, I can really, I can run, I
- 29:37Speaker 1: can catch, I'm hard to take down. I'm like one
- 29:39Speaker 1: of the better guys out here. And then we played
- 29:43Speaker 1: with this guy Ray, who played high school and junior
- 29:46Speaker 1: college football. Same thing. And I make a catch and
- 29:49Speaker 1: I'm coming up the sideline, I might do what I
- 29:51Speaker 1: normally do, which is I'm not going on a bout.
- 29:53Speaker 1: I'm just gonna try to run through him, and I
- 29:55Speaker 1: hit him, and I think I have health problems to
- 29:59Speaker 1: day for that collection.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a different thing. It's a different violence.
- 30:03Speaker 1: I think he didn't think about it. The moment I
- 30:06Speaker 1: went and fell to the ground, he just it was
- 30:10Speaker 1: gone from his brain forever. But I think it certainly
- 30:14Speaker 1: affects me to this day.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Oh there's no quote. You get tackled like that and
- 30:17Speaker 2: you go, you know what, put my feet in stirrups.
- 30:21Speaker 2: The wind has been knocked out of me. And I
- 30:22Speaker 2: need about two and a half minutes.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Let's do game prediction. So let's do let's do score prediction. Okay,
- 30:29Speaker 1: let's do a player prediction, and let's do personal prediction.
- 30:35Speaker 2: Okay, score prediction. I need you to know lately we've
- 30:41Speaker 2: been I know, I know, I need you to know
- 30:44Speaker 2: that I really do think this Cleveland defense is the
- 30:48Speaker 2: real deal. So I'm going Vikings ninety five, Brown seventeen.
- 30:54Speaker 1: I love it. I now I have a little different
- 30:57Speaker 1: opinion than you do. I am very worried about the
- 31:01Speaker 1: offensive line. Okay, and so I think with Miles Garrett
- 31:06Speaker 1: is so good Schwartz. I believe it's still their coordinaty
- 31:09Speaker 1: just he's such a good pressure guy, and with you
- 31:11Speaker 1: know a lot of backups that offensive line. So I
- 31:14Speaker 1: think it's probably one hundred and twenty eight to eleven.
- 31:18Speaker 1: I'm thinking somewhere in that range they get into eight
- 31:20Speaker 1: into three.
- 31:22Speaker 2: I forgot about Miles Garrett. Good call.
- 31:24Speaker 1: What you got for a player.
- 31:25Speaker 2: This This is gonna be crazy, but I'm gonna go
- 31:28Speaker 2: with Max Brosemer. I'm gonna tell you why he's in
- 31:32Speaker 2: because we have such a big lead.
- 31:33Speaker 1: So you're you, you think we're gonna see some Max Brosemer.
- 31:36Speaker 2: I think he's gonna go. I think he's gonna go
- 31:38Speaker 2: six for eight over seventy yards.
- 31:43Speaker 1: I love it. I am going to go. I'm gonna go.
- 31:48Speaker 1: I think last week was the start to what we're
- 31:50Speaker 1: gonna see this week because Jefferson got a lot of
- 31:53Speaker 1: targets played really well. I think we're gonna see the
- 31:56Speaker 1: Addison game. I think we're gonna see I don't know
- 31:59Speaker 1: if I'm going two touchdowns from Addison. From a personal
- 32:05Speaker 1: prediction standpoint, I think when we come back together to
- 32:09Speaker 1: do this show again because it's bye week and then
- 32:13Speaker 1: we have the Eagles, which the great Blake Wexler, who's
- 32:15Speaker 1: been on the show a ton of times, he'll be
- 32:17Speaker 1: filling in for you because we like to talk to
- 32:19Speaker 1: him about Eagles, So you're gonna get a couple of
- 32:21Speaker 1: weeks off. I believe that, regardless of how this game
- 32:25Speaker 1: turns out, when we come back together for the next
- 32:27Speaker 1: time for that show. I think people are going to
- 32:30Speaker 1: feel the energy and positivity and vibe between us that
- 32:33Speaker 1: they felt week one.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true. You know I love this Addison call.
- 32:37Speaker 2: And then I think you're right. Two touchdowns. That sounds
- 32:39Speaker 2: he's going to put the jets on. There's no question.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Two touchdowns. That's going to do it for us, everybody
- 32:44Speaker 1: on the show. Thanks to Chad for joining. Thanks to
- 32:47Speaker 1: you guys for listening to our podcast. Well you're here,
- 32:50Speaker 1: give us a review. It would help a lot. Do
- 32:52Speaker 1: the stars write the thing down. We would appreciate it.
- 32:55Speaker 1: It makes a big difference. Huge shout out to ticket Master,
- 32:57Speaker 1: the official ticket marketplace of the Minnesota Vikings, for helping
- 33:00Speaker 1: make this show happen. Enjoy the game, everybody,
