• 0:07
Speaker 1: Review Podcast is your source for all the latest news
• 0:10
Speaker 1: and information on the NFL Draft. The New England Patriots
• 0:13
Speaker 1: like now here to preview the wide receivers and tight ends.
• 0:16
Speaker 1: The writers of Patriots dot Com Time yet again for
• 0:20
Speaker 1: another draft review podcast. Here with Mike desol Matisse, Bowman
• 0:25
Speaker 1: and myself Paul Perillo, coming at you with a big,
• 0:29
Speaker 1: big position. We're gonna talk about pass catchers in general,
• 0:33
Speaker 1: but obviously we're gonna focus more on wide receivers number
• 0:36
Speaker 1: one because it's more fun to talk about wide receivers
• 0:39
Speaker 1: number two. Because I think, guys, the Patriots could be
• 0:43
Speaker 1: in the market for one anywhere in this draft, including
• 0:48
Speaker 1: at the top. What say you, I think absolutely, I
• 0:50
  Speaker 1: think it's I mean, I've been here three years, it's
• 0:53
Speaker 1: the third year in a row. There's a bunch of
• 0:55
Speaker 1: really good wide receivers. Pick whatever kind you like. You
• 0:57
Speaker 1: want a big one, you want a fast one, you
• 0:59
Speaker 1: want to fast, big one. They've got them all. It's
• 1:01
Speaker 1: just I think a question of preference and you know
• 1:03
Speaker 1: what they exactly like. But there's plenty to like about
• 1:06
Speaker 1: the whole class once again, all right, a lot of
• 1:07
Speaker 1: different opinions as to um which guys people are the
• 1:12
Speaker 1: consensus like the most, but also some question marks in
• 1:17
Speaker 1: terms of health with some of the high rated guys.
• 1:19
Speaker 1: So tis I'll go to you, um, which which guy?
• 1:22
Speaker 1: Forget about where in the draft, but if you had
• 1:24
Speaker 1: to pick one receiver, which guy do you like the most?
• 1:27
Speaker 1: Jamison Williams one. I think he's just the all around
• 1:30
Speaker 1: guy and he's against Deuce. Here we go. We don't
• 1:34
Speaker 1: need a guy who can make an impact this year.
• 1:36
Speaker 1: So I've joked I was doing damage in the SEC
• 1:38
Speaker 1: and that says a lot. So yeah, I mean, and look,
• 1:41
Speaker 1: he's a great player and we have some some funny
• 1:44
Speaker 1: side things on PU about him, but I can't sit
• 1:47
Speaker 1: here and tell you he's not a dynamic threat, explosive athletic.
• 1:51
Speaker 1: I do think that that some of his questions are
• 1:53
Speaker 1: um a little bit swept away. Maybe that's because he
• 1:55
Speaker 1: has the ACL and you know that's the issue that
• 1:58
Speaker 1: people are focused on. I think he's gone, uh just
• 2:02
  Speaker 1: just you know, he's a little undersized. I think there's
• 2:04
Speaker 1: some questions about how's he going to deal with the
• 2:06
Speaker 1: physicality in the NFL. Why you know, the left Ohio
• 2:09
Speaker 1: state You've got two other Ohio state receivers who are
• 2:12
Speaker 1: highly ranked as well. Um, So you know, little things,
• 2:14
Speaker 1: but um, overall, I think he's very good. I also
• 2:18
Speaker 1: I really like Garrett Wilson. Um. You know. And it
• 2:21
Speaker 1: was interesting kind of development with him because I think
• 2:23
Speaker 1: initially in the draft process people are always gonna run
• 2:25
Speaker 1: like a five four or five five. He's he's not
• 2:27
Speaker 1: as fast as Olave is um. And then he ran
• 2:30
Speaker 1: like you know four three eight, Uh, you know, which
• 2:33
Speaker 1: is faster than Olave. But I just think he's a
• 2:36
Speaker 1: versatile guy. With the ball in his hands, he's tough. Um.
• 2:39
Speaker 1: I like, I like how he runs with the ball
• 2:41
Speaker 1: is good, versatile, his he's with Duce has learned from
• 2:46
Speaker 1: from Paulie. Like you can say facts but don't explain
• 2:51
Speaker 1: it at all. Like as an example, one of the
• 2:53
Speaker 1: questions about Jamison Williams is his size at six one
• 2:57
Speaker 1: seventy nine, Um, Garrett Wilson, he like better at six
• 3:00
Speaker 1: feet one hundred and eighty three much bigger, much bigger,
• 3:05
Speaker 1: much bigger. Uh. You know a lot of questions about
• 3:07
Speaker 1: Garrett Wilson speed, but he ran at four three eight,
• 3:09
Speaker 1: which was actually faster than Chrystal Lays four three nine. Like, wow,
• 3:14
Speaker 1: he's made difference between four. He's brilliant. He's brilliant. Uh,
• 3:19
Speaker 1: they're all that's trailing Burkes's four to five five. That's that.
• 3:23
  Speaker 1: That's a different that's a different animal. Uh, totally different
• 3:26
Speaker 1: skill set too. But I actually I'm not going to
• 3:29
Speaker 1: break the tie. I'm gonna tell you I like them both.
• 3:31
Speaker 1: I do like Williams better. I think he has enormous potential,
• 3:35
Speaker 1: and I do think that he at Ohio State found
• 3:40
Speaker 1: a way to make some place. It wasn't like he
• 3:42
Speaker 1: was just buried and never saw the field. I think
• 3:45
Speaker 1: he looked at it and knew that Ohio State was
• 3:47
Speaker 1: going to be three guys, four guys, and at Alabama
• 3:51
Speaker 1: he had a chance to be the man. And he
• 3:53
Speaker 1: was right. He stepped in with you know, eighty catches
• 3:57
Speaker 1: fifteen hundred yards twenty yards to catch. I mean, like
• 4:01
Speaker 1: just really incredible production. But yeah, you can't ignore the
• 4:05
Speaker 1: torn acl and a guy who is just so incredibly dynamic.
• 4:10
Speaker 1: I know that medicine nowadays these guys get past this,
• 4:13
Speaker 1: But you do wonder if he loses a step. Mike
• 4:16
Speaker 1: is right, he's one hundred and eighty pounds, soak and wet.
• 4:18
Speaker 1: You know, does he have enough physicality if he's not
• 4:21
Speaker 1: quite as lightning quick? But I'm with tease. I would
• 4:24
Speaker 1: take Williams. I like Wilson a lot as well, and
• 4:27
Speaker 1: I do I think like Traylan Burks more than Mike does.
• 4:30
  Speaker 1: I think he's a really interesting guy who I'd like
• 4:34
Speaker 1: to see in a more traditional passing offense that's like
• 4:38
Speaker 1: Arkansas to me, is still one of those kind of
• 4:41
Speaker 1: stone age kind of offenses that didn't accentuate. They did
• 4:44
Speaker 1: a lot to get the ball in his hands, and
• 4:46
Speaker 1: I think he's dynamic enough that he made plays, but
• 4:49
Speaker 1: I like to see him in a more sophisticated passing attack.
• 4:52
Speaker 1: Do you have anything on Burkes because I got some,
• 4:54
Speaker 1: so I'm a little more out on Burks. Yeah. I
• 4:56
Speaker 1: think I like Christian Watson more in that type of
• 4:58
Speaker 1: role where you can get the ball and he'll just
• 4:59
Speaker 1: do it thing level of play. Yeah, I like both those.
• 5:03
Speaker 1: I really like Burks, Paul, I mean, he is really
• 5:06
Speaker 1: I think an option at the end of the first round.
• 5:08
Speaker 1: I really am kind of thinking that Jamison Williams probably
• 5:11
Speaker 1: going to be gone, so I don't dedicate too much
• 5:13
Speaker 1: of my head space to him now. But I came
• 5:16
Speaker 1: into Trail and Burkes thinking I got nick kill Harry Ptsd.
• 5:20
Speaker 1: I'm worried about a guy who doesn't have maybe the speed, um,
• 5:24
Speaker 1: you know, and but he can play. And I think
• 5:26
Speaker 1: that's the thing that they move him all around. I
• 5:28
Speaker 1: think you're totally right Paul about you know, more traditional role.
• 5:31
Speaker 1: How does he fit is he? I don't think he's
• 5:33
Speaker 1: really that outside burner guy. I think he's an inside guy.
• 5:36
Speaker 1: I think that, you know, and they're able to move
• 5:38
Speaker 1: him around do some different things with him. Had a
• 5:40
Speaker 1: chance to talk to him at the Combine a little bit.
• 5:42
Speaker 1: I love saying that kind of stuff, um, But but
• 5:47
Speaker 1: really liked him, really liked his his personality. He just
• 5:49
Speaker 1: seemed focused on on, you know, what he was, what
• 5:51
Speaker 1: he had to do. Um. I'm a big Burks fan,
• 5:53
Speaker 1: and I think he could be a realistic option down
• 5:56
Speaker 1: a down at twenty one in And I also love
• 5:58
Speaker 1: Christian Watson. I think, you know, I I look at
• 6:00
Speaker 1: him almost as a budget Jamison Williams a little bit,
• 6:04
Speaker 1: you know, he's got similar I mean, he's a little taller,
• 6:06
  Speaker 1: I think, But I think he's a guy that praised
• 6:10
Speaker 1: for character, you know, those kind of things. I know
• 6:12
Speaker 1: that they that they qualify as well as you know,
• 6:15
Speaker 1: just able to do a bunch of different things, kind
• 6:17
Speaker 1: of like Burke. So I think he's kind of maybe
• 6:18
Speaker 1: a little bit of a mesh of those two first
• 6:20
Speaker 1: couple of guys that we talked. But I like Watson too.
• 6:23
Speaker 1: I will I love Watson now let tease talk about
• 6:25
Speaker 1: him because it looks like he's the guy that it's
• 6:27
Speaker 1: actually not my main guy, but he does have some
• 6:29
Speaker 1: moves that like, you know, he just he's always there
• 6:31
Speaker 1: in NORTHDA Coast, State's offensively ran through him. So yeah,
• 6:34
Speaker 1: and a really dynamic player. I just I always worry
• 6:39
Speaker 1: at that level. You know what the especially with speed guys,
• 6:43
Speaker 1: speed and like size guys like is you're just bigger
• 6:46
Speaker 1: and faster than everybody that you're playing against. And that's
• 6:49
  Speaker 1: why I don't think that's true. I think this guy
• 6:51
Speaker 1: is going to be a good pro, you know, I
• 6:53
Speaker 1: don't know, second third round, maybe somewhere in there, I
• 6:56
Speaker 1: don't know what you guys see him following. I think
• 6:59
Speaker 1: he's a chance to be a really good player. You
• 7:02
Speaker 1: can't teach the kind of measurables that he has. I
• 7:05
Speaker 1: did like him, and I like Alavi a lot too.
• 7:07
Speaker 1: I mean, we just we brought his name up. We
• 7:08
Speaker 1: haven't really talked about him. But it was funny, like
• 7:11
Speaker 1: I read some of these different things and you hear like,
• 7:14
Speaker 1: really technically sound route runner, and then you hear like, oh,
• 7:17
Speaker 1: needs help with his footwork. And how could two guys
• 7:20
Speaker 1: watch a guy and get two diametrically opposite views. But
• 7:23
Speaker 1: no question, a lot of different opinions. The smoothest guy
• 7:27
Speaker 1: in the draft, and I count that for both that's great,
• 7:31
Speaker 1: but it's also how much does it tell you about
• 7:33
Speaker 1: how his game is going to translate to the pros.
• 7:35
Speaker 1: I think there's a little bit of question, you know,
• 7:37
Speaker 1: same thing, the size stuff with him, But just's he's
• 7:41
Speaker 1: fun to watch, just how smooth he is, how easy
• 7:44
Speaker 1: he makes everything look. I'm a little bit on the
• 7:47
Speaker 1: fence with him at twenty one overall, but but I
• 7:49
  Speaker 1: think he's a good player. Yeah, I don't know about
• 7:51
  Speaker 1: twenty one. I don't know if I would take a
• 7:53
Speaker 1: receiver at twenty one. So I mean, I do think
• 7:57
Speaker 1: there's a lot of needs that the Patriots have and
• 7:59
  Speaker 1: I don't know if that's the biggest one. I don't
• 8:01
Speaker 1: know if I would take one at twenty one. I
• 8:03
Speaker 1: think if you really believed in somebody like Burkes could
• 8:06
Speaker 1: be like a game changer, maybe what they thought Harry
• 8:08
Speaker 1: was gonna be. You know, who can play anywhere and
• 8:12
Speaker 1: so scary to do that though, because of the comparisons,
• 8:14
Speaker 1: I know, I know, tease anyone, um Wandale Robinson. You know,
• 8:20
  Speaker 1: he's just the gadget guy. I have a star, a
• 8:25
Speaker 1: little small, but I mean he can do everything. He
• 8:27
Speaker 1: can return kicks, Cato yep, yeah, I wrote Debo yep him.
• 8:34
Speaker 1: I mean, there's just so much upside on Day two guy,
• 8:36
Speaker 1: late day two guy. Uh. These are the kinds of
• 8:39
Speaker 1: players I think you can find, um and I think
• 8:42
Speaker 1: these are the kinds of players teams have found in
• 8:44
Speaker 1: the second in early in the third day of the draft.
• 8:47
Speaker 1: It doesn't have to be twenty one. I love one.
• 8:49
Speaker 1: Dale Robinson, Um, by the way, just learning how to play.
• 8:52
Speaker 1: He played he was a running back, so he's just
• 8:55
Speaker 1: sort of learning how to be a receiver. He's small, compact,
• 8:58
Speaker 1: but tough in plays with a ton of heart. Um.
• 9:01
Speaker 1: I think that's the kind of guy that could could take,
• 9:04
Speaker 1: you know, maybe make some some short passes and make
• 9:07
Speaker 1: big plays out of them. That's the kind of guy, Paul,
• 9:09
Speaker 1: And we've we talk about this all the time about
• 9:11
Speaker 1: you know, people call into the show and ask about
• 9:14
Speaker 1: drafting a receiver first overall, and it's it's that kind
• 9:16
Speaker 1: of guy that they need more of. And I take
• 9:18
Speaker 1: a couple of them, you know, I take a couple
• 9:20
Speaker 1: of those kind of guys that are just electric. I mean,
• 9:23
Speaker 1: I just sudden was the word that I wrote down,
• 9:24
Speaker 1: And I mean, I think you ran a four four
• 9:26
Speaker 1: nine and it's not not crazy, but it's just a
• 9:28
Speaker 1: guy with the ball in his hands to makes things happen.
• 9:31
Speaker 1: So tough too, and similar to to to kind of
• 9:34
Speaker 1: bringing it Skymore, I thought they were similar kind of players.
• 9:38
Speaker 1: I think Skymore maybe has a little bit more pedigree
• 9:41
Speaker 1: right now, just as far as what people think he Um,
• 9:44
Speaker 1: you know, might be able to do a little bit
• 9:45
Speaker 1: smaller Um in terms of height, But I think Skymore
• 9:48
Speaker 1: is another one electric inside kind of guy. Um makes
• 9:51
Speaker 1: a lot of plays with the ball on the inside
• 9:54
Speaker 1: portion of the field. So what are your thoughts on Metchi? So,
• 9:57
  Speaker 1: I mean I I'm with everybody. I think every but
• 10:00
Speaker 1: he thinks, hey, he knows Mac. He's got a degree
• 10:03
Speaker 1: of familiarity. We do have the you know, the ACL
• 10:05
Speaker 1: issue with acl ACL issue with him as well. But
• 10:08
Speaker 1: I think he's another great fit. I love these day
• 10:11
Speaker 1: two guys, and he might even be, you know, a
• 10:13
Speaker 1: third rounder I think based on based on the health.
• 10:16
Speaker 1: But just it's got to be intriguing to Patriots fans,
• 10:19
Speaker 1: no one. The connection there exists. You can bring in
• 10:22
Speaker 1: a young guy that's going to be here for four
• 10:23
Speaker 1: years and they can continue to grow together. I gotta
• 10:25
Speaker 1: be honest. If he wasn't an Alabama guy, I don't
• 10:28
Speaker 1: think I'd be overly interested. The connection does intrigue me,
• 10:33
Speaker 1: and I know that, you know, people have watched like
• 10:35
Speaker 1: Borrow and Chase and Tua and Waddle and they've said, hey,
• 10:40
Speaker 1: you know, let's get one of these for Mac, and
• 10:42
Speaker 1: I am sort of interested in it. From that perspective.
• 10:45
  Speaker 1: I think he's a good player. I don't think he's
• 10:47
  Speaker 1: anything special. I think he's I think he's a good
• 10:50
Speaker 1: college receiver who I thought was kind of average in
• 10:53
Speaker 1: terms of creating separation. I think there's so much space
• 10:56
Speaker 1: in that offense, it's kind of hard to develop in
• 10:58
Speaker 1: it might listen, maybe I'm getting claud By Williams for
• 11:01
Speaker 1: the same reason. Yeah, you know, maybe there's just so
• 11:03
Speaker 1: much space in that offense that these guys all look
• 11:05
Speaker 1: better than they are. I'll tell you a guy, you know,
• 11:08
Speaker 1: a Day two guy that the numbers don't jump out
• 11:12
Speaker 1: at you average to below average speed, which is a
• 11:16
Speaker 1: concern the Patriots don't want another slow receiver. But David
• 11:19
Speaker 1: Bell at Purdue is a guy that in an offense
• 11:24
Speaker 1: that was basically David Bell, he was the guy. This
• 11:27
Speaker 1: is sort of the opposite of the Alabama thing that
• 11:29
Speaker 1: I just talked about. Everybody on the field knew the
• 11:31
Speaker 1: balls going to David Bell, and he just produces every
• 11:34
Speaker 1: single week with an average quarterback on an average team,
• 11:37
Speaker 1: and they find ways to win games because David Bell
• 11:40
Speaker 1: was better than the guys covering him on a week
• 11:42
Speaker 1: to week basis. But he's like a four sixty. He
• 11:46
Speaker 1: did not test well. He had a bad pro day,
• 11:48
Speaker 1: so I understand if teams are gonna but because of that,
• 11:51
Speaker 1: if you could get him in the third round instead
• 11:53
Speaker 1: of the second round, I think there's a guy that
• 11:55
Speaker 1: you might have to look at smart player. Yeah, he's
• 11:58
Speaker 1: He's the guy that just kind of knows how to
• 11:59
Speaker 1: play and maybe makes the most of what he Ninety
• 12:02
Speaker 1: three catches almost fourteen yards to catch. That's a lot
• 12:04
Speaker 1: of catches for an average that that high last year. Uh.
• 12:09
Speaker 1: One other guy that I wanted to bring up was
• 12:11
Speaker 1: George Pickens from from Georgia. Uh. He tore his ACL
• 12:15
Speaker 1: in the spring, right, Yeah, and yeah, he had only
• 12:19
Speaker 1: four games played, which I think really impressed scouts that
• 12:22
Speaker 1: he worked so hard to get back before the end
• 12:24
Speaker 1: of the year, ended up being a contributor in the
• 12:27
Speaker 1: National Championship game. Caught a bomb in that game. Um really,
• 12:31
Speaker 1: I mean I think he played four games, right, is
• 12:34
Speaker 1: that right? Four games? Thirty six catches, Like the guy,
• 12:39
Speaker 1: the guy can play, The guy can play. Um yeah,
• 12:42
Speaker 1: that's another one where you talk about coming off an injury.
• 12:45
Speaker 1: Maybe that that affects his status a little bit. I mean,
• 12:47
Speaker 1: I love not to again go back to Harry and blocking,
• 12:50
Speaker 1: but watching him block is just hilarious because he just
• 12:53
Speaker 1: tosses guys left him right, Why would you watch him block?
• 12:56
Speaker 1: I don't know. Somebody cut up something and I enjoy it.
• 12:58
Speaker 1: I enjoy seeing people go flow. So I mean there's
• 13:02
Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of other names that we
• 13:04
Speaker 1: haven't even mentioned. Yeah, so I mean Drake London, I know.
• 13:10
Speaker 1: So I'm not huge. I'm not huge, and he's and
• 13:14
Speaker 1: I always have problems with guys when you turn it
• 13:15
Speaker 1: on and all the highlights are contested catches down the field,
• 13:18
Speaker 1: you know. And but when I was in the when
• 13:20
Speaker 1: I was at the combine um, he seemed to me
• 13:23
Speaker 1: like a kid who's still very much growing into what
• 13:26
Speaker 1: he's going to be. And that was my pause for him,
• 13:29
  Speaker 1: because going into it, I didn't I wasn't really too
• 13:31
Speaker 1: high on him. It just seemed like he's bigger than
• 13:33
Speaker 1: everybody else and is able to go up and get
• 13:35
Speaker 1: the ball. Um. But there is part of it that
• 13:38
Speaker 1: I think if a team reached on him, I could
• 13:40
Speaker 1: see them saying, I think he's going to develop into
• 13:43
Speaker 1: a more well rounded guy. He certainly has the size.
• 13:45
Speaker 1: Do you think he's gonna be a top ten pick?
• 13:47
Speaker 1: I mean I'm seeing people saying that, and that's still
• 13:49
Speaker 1: surprising to me because I don't see the overall dominance
• 13:52
Speaker 1: of a top ten pick where you know, Jamison Williams
• 13:55
  Speaker 1: his best highlights that's a top ten plar. That's a
• 13:57
Speaker 1: guy who is making people miss left and right, tear
• 14:00
Speaker 1: him him around. Did I see but that's clear. I don't.
• 14:04
Speaker 1: I don't see him. And to be honest, I think
• 14:06
Speaker 1: with even with Garrett Wilson, I don't really see a
• 14:08
Speaker 1: top ten pick there. I see a mid mid first
• 14:10
Speaker 1: round kind of a guy. I'm not sure that this
• 14:12
Speaker 1: class has what last year's class had in terms of,
• 14:15
Speaker 1: you know, the waddles and the chases of the world.
• 14:18
Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys know we're gonna talk
• 14:20
Speaker 1: about tight ends a little bit. I'd like to throw
• 14:21
Speaker 1: two more and I want to know if there was
• 14:23
Speaker 1: like a late, like a Day three guy, maybe you
• 14:25
Speaker 1: guys had had an eye on I got. I gotta
• 14:27
Speaker 1: mention Kyle Phillips just from UCLA. I call him a
• 14:29
Speaker 1: Wes Welker cost player. UM actually did talk to him
• 14:32
Speaker 1: with the combine, asked him about Welker and he was like,
• 14:34
Speaker 1: you know that's my guy, Um, But you know he's
• 14:37
  Speaker 1: a he's a Day three we talk about slot. He's
• 14:40
Speaker 1: a Day three slot kind of a guy. But surehanded
• 14:42
Speaker 1: catches everything his way. You watch you watch him in film,
• 14:45
Speaker 1: he they just the same thing as Welker. Guys just
• 14:48
Speaker 1: can't seem to cover him. He has a smart attitude
• 14:50
Speaker 1: about how he plays and setting guys up. I think
• 14:53
Speaker 1: he's a punt returner. He can do a number of things.
• 14:55
Speaker 1: He's just seeing him give people problems. He doesn't look
• 14:58
Speaker 1: like much standing there, but he seems to me like
• 15:00
Speaker 1: a patriot guy. And and one other guy throwing the
• 15:02
Speaker 1: mix was Khalil Shaker from Boise State, who I like him.
• 15:06
Speaker 1: Did it all you know, direct snaps, part return, kickoff,
• 15:09
Speaker 1: run after catch um. I think he's another guy that
• 15:13
Speaker 1: that I gave a start too, along with with jan
• 15:14
Speaker 1: Dale Robinson. That those are two guys I look at
• 15:16
Speaker 1: that day two, day three kind of area that that
• 15:19
Speaker 1: could come in and and bring something to the table
• 15:21
Speaker 1: that they need. Teaset did you have one? I had
• 15:23
Speaker 1: Taekwon Thornton from Baylor. I mean he's just a burner.
• 15:26
Speaker 1: He did a four point two eight forty and I
• 15:28
Speaker 1: think you can't go wrong tessing anything with that. Just
• 15:30
Speaker 1: throw it deep and he'll be there. You can't teach me.
• 15:33
Speaker 1: I also liked Calvin Austin as a late, late round
• 15:38
Speaker 1: kind of guy, another one of those sort of hybrid
• 15:41
Speaker 1: cat too. I think you could. I think you could
• 15:43
Speaker 1: use him in a lot of different ways. Small five eight, tiny,
• 15:46
Speaker 1: tiny guy to about a thousand yard seasons maybe, but
• 15:48
Speaker 1: maybe you can find a way to use him. I
• 15:51
Speaker 1: just think explosive athlete his first thing that I wrote
• 15:53
Speaker 1: down when I was watched him a little bit, uh,
• 15:56
Speaker 1: And he has good hands and rint looked like he
• 15:58
Speaker 1: got open like ran good route too. So yeah, there's
• 16:01
Speaker 1: some interesting guys top to bottom in this class. I
• 16:04
Speaker 1: think we'd all be stunned if the Patriots don't come
• 16:06
Speaker 1: out of this draft selecting at least one wide receiver
• 16:09
Speaker 1: type player. I would have said that last year too,
• 16:11
Speaker 1: and I was surprised, But you know, with just Kendrick
• 16:15
Speaker 1: Bourne under contract for next year, you know potentially, you
• 16:19
Speaker 1: know you have to address the position long term, and
• 16:22
Speaker 1: I think to get some youth to get any one
• 16:24
Speaker 1: of these guys, and some of us are higher or
• 16:26
Speaker 1: lower on certain guys, I would take literally any single
• 16:30
Speaker 1: one of them. I feel I could help this this
• 16:31
Speaker 1: group right before I close it with tight ends and
• 16:34
Speaker 1: we're not going to talk about them for a long time.
• 16:35
Speaker 1: But if it was twenty one, at twenty one, who's
• 16:38
Speaker 1: your pick you had to take a receiver for at
• 16:41
Speaker 1: twenty one? Burks? I think I would do it Teas Williams,
• 16:46
Speaker 1: James and Williams at twenty one. You think he's gonna
• 16:49
Speaker 1: be available at twenty one? All right? For who's available,
• 16:51
Speaker 1: I'm taking Pickens. Oh, I like Pickens, but I'm gonna
• 16:54
Speaker 1: go Burks as well. But I think the three of
• 16:57
Speaker 1: us would all agree that it's probably unlikely at twenty
• 16:59
Speaker 1: one for a wide receiver. I think so, especially with
• 17:02
Speaker 1: the depth that we just talked about. I mean, there's
• 17:04
Speaker 1: gonna be guys, let's get deep into the weeds into
• 17:07
Speaker 1: late day two, early day three, because I believe that's
• 17:10
Speaker 1: about the high point of where any of these tight
• 17:13
Speaker 1: ends are gonna come off the board. Um, most of
• 17:16
Speaker 1: the experts have guys like Trey McBride, Jalen Widemeyer, Kay Doughton,
• 17:22
Speaker 1: Jeremy there's a lot of sort of workman like college
• 17:26
Speaker 1: wide receivers in this in this group, and I think
• 17:29
Speaker 1: there's some potential for teams like the Patriots that like
• 17:32
Speaker 1: to use two tight ends. I kept reading solid option
• 17:37
Speaker 1: as t E two in twelve personnel. Yeah, and there's
• 17:40
Speaker 1: a lot you know, the Kaye Doughton's of the world,
• 17:43
Speaker 1: even the kid Jake Ferguson, Barry Alvarez's grandson from Wisconsin.
• 17:48
Speaker 1: A lot of these guys just really good college tight ends,
• 17:51
Speaker 1: but I think all would need some development. Yeah, I mean,
• 17:54
Speaker 1: I think Tray McBride would probably be the one that
• 17:56
Speaker 1: I was, you know, most impressed with. Most of that's
• 17:58
Speaker 1: coming from just getting a chance to see him at
• 18:00
Speaker 1: the Senior Bowl a little bit um and the practices,
• 18:02
Speaker 1: and I mean, I think he has potential to kind
• 18:05
Speaker 1: of develop into into an all around tight end. But
• 18:07
Speaker 1: I think the thing with this position group in general
• 18:09
Speaker 1: right now is that you mostly have guys who are
• 18:11
Speaker 1: just bigger than the defensive backs that are trying to
• 18:14
Speaker 1: cover them, and so they're able to just go up
• 18:16
Speaker 1: and get the ball, and if they're able to, you know,
• 18:18
Speaker 1: sneak out and get wide open and so you see
• 18:20
Speaker 1: a lot of that run after catching. But there's not
• 18:22
Speaker 1: any burners. Really. There's some athletic guys Isaiah likely I
• 18:25
Speaker 1: know Tease likes him, yeah, from Everett High that Paul
• 18:30
Speaker 1: knows him well. Um, but you know, I think he
• 18:32
Speaker 1: was he was an athletic downfield, could could have. He
• 18:35
Speaker 1: came out of a wide receiver and they made him
• 18:37
Speaker 1: into a tight end at coach and I and I
• 18:39
Speaker 1: agree with with teeth. If you were going to take
• 18:41
Speaker 1: a flyer on a guy with the most upside, now
• 18:44
  Speaker 1: I don't there's a chance that he'll give you nothing.
• 18:46
Speaker 1: But if you were going to take a flyer on
• 18:48
Speaker 1: a guy out of this group that might be have
• 18:50
Speaker 1: the highest ceiling, I think it might be likely, it
• 18:53
Speaker 1: would likely be likely. I'd agree with that. And then, uh,
• 18:57
Speaker 1: and just you know a lot of these guys. I
• 18:59
Speaker 1: watched him. I'm like, he looks the same, Hey, looks
• 19:01
Speaker 1: the same. It's pretty big, um. But the one guy
• 19:03
Speaker 1: and Tisa and I were watching them upstairs with Gilanni Woods,
• 19:07
Speaker 1: who was just an absolute like he's just too big.
• 19:09
Speaker 1: He's like the Trent Brown of the tight Ends. Um,
• 19:12
Speaker 1: it looks like a Madden Creative player. It does like
• 19:15
Speaker 1: Matt Like, you're like, I'm gonna make him six foot seven,
• 19:18
Speaker 1: I mean six six point seven five two hundred and
• 19:21
Speaker 1: sixty pounds, um, you know, and he doesn't look like
• 19:24
  Speaker 1: a smooth I didn't watch that match. I watched eleven
• 19:26
Speaker 1: tight ends, and I you know, purposely didn't watch a
• 19:29
Speaker 1: ton of them because I don't think they're going to
• 19:31
Speaker 1: take a tight end anywhere in the draft, and if
• 19:33
Speaker 1: they do, I think it would be pretty late. Yeah. Yeah,
• 19:35
Speaker 1: but he's uh, he was just one that um kind
• 19:38
Speaker 1: of stood out to me just because of his size.
• 19:40
Speaker 1: And I don't know if that's going to translate uh
• 19:43
Speaker 1: sneaky good hands too seeking good hands, I mean hard
• 19:46
Speaker 1: to tackle. Obviously. There was a couple of guys that
• 19:48
Speaker 1: could block, yeah, and a couple of guys that were
• 19:51
Speaker 1: good receivers. There were very few that showed the ability
• 19:55
Speaker 1: to do any of them. That's the kay dot And
• 19:57
Speaker 1: is a guy who didn't have a ton of production
• 19:59
Speaker 1: as a re ever, but showed good hands when they
• 20:02
Speaker 1: did throw it to him. And I think he's a
• 20:03
Speaker 1: pretty good blocker. So he's the one guy I put
• 20:06
Speaker 1: a star on. Yeah, Um, I put plotter. Oh yeah,
• 20:09
Speaker 1: no, no no, no, not dying. Not a dynamic athlete by
• 20:11
Speaker 1: any you know, any stretch of the imagination. I thought
• 20:15
Speaker 1: he looked like he was a pretty good inline blocker, though,
• 20:18
Speaker 1: um yeah, I thought Jeremy Rutgerd from Ohio States kind
• 20:22
Speaker 1: of feel yeah, And he's another guy in that offense.
• 20:24
Speaker 1: You know, we make fund of the Alabama guys, so
• 20:26
Speaker 1: you got you know, you get you get all those
• 20:28
Speaker 1: guys out there creating space for you. And Rutgard was
• 20:32
Speaker 1: there to to take advantage. He was like the fifth
• 20:34
Speaker 1: option in that Ohio State option offense. So you know
• 20:38
Speaker 1: the Ohio State kid Charlie Kohler gets I was just
• 20:40
Speaker 1: looking at him. Yeah, he gets a lot of attention.
• 20:42
Speaker 1: Every game is like, you know, the big twelve games
• 20:44
Speaker 1: around all the time. I saw him play a lot,
• 20:46
Speaker 1: and every time he's like, yo, that's why the NFL
• 20:49
Speaker 1: sculls are drooling over him and I and I would
• 20:50
Speaker 1: watch him and said, what, like, I know, I'm not
• 20:52
Speaker 1: an expert. What are they drooling over? He looks thoroughly
• 20:55
Speaker 1: averaged to him that steady I just took. I saw
• 20:58
Speaker 1: him as steady um also an act the academic Heisman winner,
• 21:01
Speaker 1: Heisman winner Um. But I liked him. But I liked him, Yeah,
• 21:04
Speaker 1: I just I you know what he looks player, right,
• 21:07
Speaker 1: I don't know, it felt similar, you know about but
• 21:10
Speaker 1: the guy they drafted here and that we haven't seen yet. Uh,
• 21:14
Speaker 1: you know, he's a better athlete, but probably who knows.
• 21:18
Speaker 1: I had certainly not me Jago Konkuo from Maryland just
• 21:22
Speaker 1: because they think they said he can move him around
• 21:23
Speaker 1: a lot. You know, I saw him running jet sweep first, yeah,
• 21:26
Speaker 1: first out there you go. U. Yeah, that's what that
• 21:29
Speaker 1: was where I wrote down with him like jet sweep,
• 21:31
Speaker 1: Like I didn't see any tight ends run maybe a
• 21:32
Speaker 1: little fullback action move around six two forty two. So yeah,
• 21:37
  Speaker 1: I just I don't think it's a big position to
• 21:39
Speaker 1: need and it's certainly not a stellar class um. But
• 21:43
Speaker 1: you never know, one of those late round guys. Maybe
• 21:45
Speaker 1: maybe a big fatty that can that can block a
• 21:47
Speaker 1: little bit. I think that that wouldn't It wouldn't totally.
• 21:50
Speaker 1: Johnny would be I mean, put him next to Trump
• 21:52
Speaker 1: Brown and you know, just try to hide people behind him.
• 21:54
Speaker 1: I guess, well, yeah, because you might lose Justin harn
• 21:57
Speaker 1: he might actually have to play this year. You'll need it,
• 21:59
Speaker 1: you know, that extra tight end. There you go. But
• 22:01
Speaker 1: we're not going to spend much more time on the
• 22:03
Speaker 1: tight ends for obvious reasons, and we a lot of
• 22:06
Speaker 1: guys to talk about. This one went a little longer
• 22:08
Speaker 1: than most of our draft podcasts will. But the way
• 22:11
Speaker 1: these wide receivers stack up. I think, maybe not quite
• 22:15
Speaker 1: as deep as it's been the last couple of years,
• 22:17
Speaker 1: but still, as Mike said at the top, there's fast guys,
• 22:20
  Speaker 1: there's big guys. There's big fast guys. There's a lot
• 22:23
Speaker 1: to choose from, and I think it would be really
• 22:25
Speaker 1: interesting come draft weekend to see what Bill Belichick thinks
• 22:29
Speaker 1: and if he feels like a sky More or some
• 22:31
Speaker 1: you know, one of these slot guys with the production.
• 22:34
Speaker 1: I'd like to see a little bit more consistent route
• 22:37
Speaker 1: running and separation, but a lot of a lot of
• 22:39
Speaker 1: guys to choose from. That that seems like the bear
• 22:41
Speaker 1: level to me. It's just, you know, to get a
• 22:43
Speaker 1: guy that's inside and quick, because that seems like what's
• 22:45
Speaker 1: kind of missing from their group right now is just
• 22:48
Speaker 1: you know, some little, quick, inside guys that can get open,
• 22:50
Speaker 1: you know, third and three and pop up and they're open.
• 22:53
Speaker 1: But you know, if they want to shake a chance
• 22:55
Speaker 1: on one of these outside guys like Burkes or Watson
• 22:58
Speaker 1: to develop them, I can see that too. So I
• 23:01
Speaker 1: think they need at least one. I'd take two in
• 23:03
  Speaker 1: this draft. I think Watson's a guy I'm really intrigued
• 23:06
Speaker 1: with two, like Tsus, but we'll put a wrap on
• 23:09
Speaker 1: this epic podcast. They don't usually go this long, but
• 23:13
Speaker 1: we're almost through with the offense. Guys, we have offensive line.
• 23:15
Speaker 1: We'll get to that one next. Thank you for downloading
