- 0:29Speaker 1: you stand with on X. Okay, we're joined, Uh, the
- 0:38Speaker 1: second Taylor we've had in a row. Now, whether Cran
- 0:41Speaker 1: releases easy or not, don't say that he's commenting on it.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I can't say what because of the order. Yeah, I
- 0:50Speaker 1: just I was just getting into that. Okay, fine, now
- 0:54Speaker 1: he's got to reset the tim again. This might be
- 0:56Speaker 1: the no, just leave this in. Leave this in so
- 1:01Speaker 1: you can see what I have to deal with. Joined
- 1:04Speaker 1: by the second Taylor in a row, though it might
- 1:07Speaker 1: not be how you hear it, because that depends on
- 1:09Speaker 1: whether Krian what she does. This might be the first Tailor,
- 1:13Speaker 1: but for us second tailor Roll. Both with a great
- 1:16Speaker 1: affinity for firearms, but in a very different context. The
- 1:21Speaker 1: other Taylor Taylor McCall um. He's got a song which
- 1:25Speaker 1: could be your theme song. It's called black Powder Soul.
- 1:28Speaker 1: That sounds exciting. Yeah, I don't think he'd be too.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I'm guessing that he wouldn't be terribly handy with a gun,
- 1:34Speaker 1: but has a great affinity four guns. Would you beat
- 1:39Speaker 1: me up on that? Maybe he's handy with a gun.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I would bet that you would have beat him in
- 1:43Speaker 1: three guns. Don't shoot him, Taylor definitely would. Yeah, but
- 1:48Speaker 1: I think even today you you would have. Yeah. I
- 1:50Speaker 1: think he's crafty at fishing. I don't think he's a
- 1:52Speaker 1: crafty shooter. Yeah, he's getting into it. That was Taylor McCall.
- 1:56Speaker 1: This Taylor is Taylor Thorn like Thorne Bay th h
- 2:00Speaker 1: r an e from New Hampshire, New Hampshire, but not anymore. Well, right,
- 2:08Speaker 1: you're still from there. You always be from there. Well
- 2:10Speaker 1: technically I'm from Texas. Uh so, yeah, so the story
- 2:14Speaker 1: gets that's right, but you got like a whole confused
- 2:19Speaker 1: like I'm from here situation. Yeah yeah, yeah, Well because
- 2:22Speaker 1: I was born and raised in Houston, which you know,
- 2:25Speaker 1: not everyone knows Houston is like the fourth biggest city
- 2:28Speaker 1: in the country. Yeah, it doesn't get a lot of
- 2:30Speaker 1: big maybe in Texas it does and the North people.
- 2:33Speaker 1: If you ask people in the North to name big cities,
- 2:36Speaker 1: they wouldn't get to it well, and the thing too
- 2:39Speaker 1: is that so it's the fourth biggest one. But people say,
- 2:41Speaker 1: like when I moved to New Hampshire, They're like, oh,
- 2:43Speaker 1: you're from Texas, You're roaming with the cows. I came
- 2:45Speaker 1: from Houston, a concrete jungle, like it was a legal
- 2:49Speaker 1: to own firm animals. And I'm like, um, so, y'all
- 2:52Speaker 1: are roaming with the cows literally, So it was a
- 2:56Speaker 1: culture shock for sure. Yeah, because they thought I would
- 3:00Speaker 1: the hill billy, which was so weird. So I moved
- 3:03Speaker 1: to New Hampshire when I was thirteen. Okay, hold that
- 3:06Speaker 1: thought from bex. A couple things we gotta take care of,
- 3:09Speaker 1: uh Johnie first, just gotta do a thing. He's got
- 3:11Speaker 1: to do a favor for a listener. We don't often
- 3:15Speaker 1: get actual handwritten fans. Oh we can still get a
- 3:20Speaker 1: lot of it. Well, the it's flow to me had
- 3:24Speaker 1: become interrupted, and I recently discovered a large stash of
- 3:29Speaker 1: male That's why you found that mail to you in
- 3:31Speaker 1: my truck, I see. Okay, well we got one from
- 3:36Speaker 1: Dylan because his wife say his name again shrup, And
- 3:41Speaker 1: you realize you weren't supposed to say that that you
- 3:43Speaker 1: weren't supposed to implicate his wife. Yes, she said, if
- 3:46Speaker 1: we give a shout out to Dylan please underlined, please
- 3:49Speaker 1: don't mention it. I put you up to it, but
- 3:55Speaker 1: I would have no way. How's it going to make
- 4:00Speaker 1: her look good if he doesn't know that that's who
- 4:01Speaker 1: did it? Well then, and I mean, what am I
- 4:03Speaker 1: gonna do? Just just say that? You know what? This
- 4:06Speaker 1: morning I woke up and I had a dream, and
- 4:08Speaker 1: I remember my dream, and you know what, I was
- 4:10Speaker 1: thinking about this name. The initials were d s And
- 4:15Speaker 1: then I continue to think and shrimp guy thought, it's
- 4:19Speaker 1: just not gonna work right. So sorry, mrs that's for sure.
- 4:24Speaker 1: If you took his name, I don't know. Do you
- 4:25Speaker 1: have a way that you could have seguated it somehow? No,
- 4:29Speaker 1: I was going to go straight on. I was going
- 4:31Speaker 1: straight to the wife because that's the hero here, and
- 4:34Speaker 1: why would she She's so pure of heart, But like
- 4:40Speaker 1: I'm worried about her. She loves her husband. Yeah, I
- 4:43Speaker 1: want him to know that he that she was trying
- 4:46Speaker 1: to do him a solid. Yeah, and he should what
- 4:50Speaker 1: and maybe he brings home flowers, constantly, does dishes and
- 4:54Speaker 1: whatever nice things he can for his wife all the time.
- 4:57Speaker 1: But I would say, Dylan, you definitely need to be
- 5:00Speaker 1: doing some nice things for your wife because she's she
- 5:03Speaker 1: sounds awesome. But a couple of highlights here from this
- 5:06Speaker 1: nice soul letter. She says that Dylan has this is Dylan.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm gonna mention this stuff, and you canna
- 5:13Speaker 1: get a little mad at your wife, but that you
- 5:15Speaker 1: have man crushed on all of the meat eater guys,
- 5:19Speaker 1: especially the Latvian the eagle. That's okay, buddy, I got
- 5:23Speaker 1: man crushes myself. It's it's it's totally fine. Man own it.
- 5:28Speaker 1: And um, she said they listen to meter podcasts relentlessly.
- 5:32Speaker 1: She's learned more about everything in the in the woods,
- 5:36Speaker 1: including turkeys and bears and this, that and the other,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and she ever thought she would. Um. She likes to
- 5:43Speaker 1: busts balls and says that she doesn't like listening, but
- 5:45Speaker 1: she actually enjoys listening. So anyways, Dylan, shout out, and um,
- 5:51Speaker 1: everybody else listening, don't write in for shoutouts because we
- 5:54Speaker 1: don't often do this. Just we're just really taken by
- 5:57Speaker 1: Dylan's wife. So, um, there we go. That's so sweet.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Yeah that I mentioned she had really good penmanship, very
- 6:07Speaker 1: legible letter. Appreciate that. Another letter we got the the
- 6:14Speaker 1: new fashioned way, just an email letter, which kind of
- 6:17Speaker 1: spook because it's because this guy was writing in in
- 6:21Speaker 1: response to me becoming a deep drop enthusiast. He was
- 6:25Speaker 1: saying the I'm gonna start with the end. Well he's
- 6:28Speaker 1: he's a commercial fisherman from Florida, and he was talking
- 6:32Speaker 1: about me, talking about deep dropping. He says, this is
- 6:36Speaker 1: this is a heart this is a heartbreaking ship. So
- 6:38Speaker 1: you should put like sad music. Keep put some sad
- 6:42Speaker 1: music in over this when you put this together. So
- 6:44Speaker 1: he says, anyone familiar with deep dropping would have laughed
- 6:49Speaker 1: at Steve's explanation. And I don't want Steve to be
- 6:53Speaker 1: rejected by the deep drop community. Where where are he? Okay,
- 7:02Speaker 1: he's telling me some stuff that I've heard from other
- 7:04Speaker 1: deep There's this seems to be some debate in the
- 7:05Speaker 1: deep drop community, but it's like an objective reality thing,
- 7:08Speaker 1: like there's not like room for two people to be right.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Do we need to explain what deep dropping is? Did
- 7:14Speaker 1: you see the deer in the headlights? It's it's when
- 7:16Speaker 1: you fish super super deep. I figured it was something together.
- 7:22Speaker 1: It made sense because what else would you be I
- 7:25Speaker 1: don't know at what point of deep drop becomes a
- 7:27Speaker 1: deep drop he talks about. It's probably like when you're
- 7:30Speaker 1: using deep drop tackle. But he's talked about deep dropping
- 7:33Speaker 1: in five feet, which I think is like, I'm sorry
- 7:35Speaker 1: to throw an insult back your way. I think five
- 7:38Speaker 1: feets piss and deep dropping. Yeah, nobody uses electric reels
- 7:43Speaker 1: at five feet. He's a commercial fisherman. I don't know,
- 7:45Speaker 1: but I think that I think that the deep drop
- 7:47Speaker 1: community is laughing at him, thinking that's deep dropping at
- 7:50Speaker 1: five feet. Okay, what else was it about your explanation?
- 7:54Speaker 1: One other thing quick, because we had to when we
- 7:56Speaker 1: were out, oh you were there, We had this idea
- 7:59Speaker 1: that we were going to lower Seth down. Have you
- 8:03Speaker 1: heard this? We want to lower Seth down into feet
- 8:07Speaker 1: of water in order to shrink him into a little
- 8:11Speaker 1: teeny seth from the pressure and then pull him back
- 8:16Speaker 1: up and just have like a little seth. That would
- 8:19Speaker 1: be casting movies and stuff. Yeah, but he well, he
- 8:23Speaker 1: doesn't like as he was saying that. Um, he's saying
- 8:27Speaker 1: that that. I was talking about how the current is
- 8:29Speaker 1: not strong out in so much water. Okay, he's saying,
- 8:34Speaker 1: you just don't You don't realize how much it's ripping
- 8:37Speaker 1: because you're far away from the shore and so your
- 8:39Speaker 1: frame of context of looking at trees going by. He says,
- 8:42Speaker 1: you're hauling ass. The currents hauling more ass out there
- 8:47Speaker 1: than it is in the shallow And he says that
- 8:49Speaker 1: that that the reason your tackle is always running away
- 8:52Speaker 1: from you is you got all that line out and
- 8:54Speaker 1: the currents moving faster down deep mhm. And he said,
- 9:00Speaker 1: my things kindly not affected by the wind on the surface.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Like he's saying, my thing that it's more like the
- 9:07Speaker 1: wind blowing the boat is an optical illusion, like like
- 9:12Speaker 1: you lower your ship down and it's hard to keep
- 9:14Speaker 1: the boat in fourtet of water. It's hard to keep
- 9:18Speaker 1: like your bait directly blow the boat. It's like running
- 9:22Speaker 1: away from you. I was thinking that the wind is
- 9:26Speaker 1: moving you away from your ship, but he says, the
- 9:30Speaker 1: current is moving your ship away from you. And that's
- 9:34Speaker 1: why I would be rejected by the deep Drop community
- 9:40Speaker 1: for saying that. Other interesting thing. This guy, this is
- 9:44Speaker 1: guy named Luke. You know peopleize put their name and
- 9:46Speaker 1: their subject there, like line whatever. It's like m d
- 9:50Speaker 1: pH D c p A. Right, you know what I'm saying, like, yeah,
- 9:55Speaker 1: this is this says no credentials. I love that guy.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Here's something about this. So we've talked we've touched on
- 10:05Speaker 1: this in the past. Photo period. So can you know
- 10:08Speaker 1: what photo period is? No, it's like length of day.
- 10:12Speaker 1: There's this idea that all that like the length of day.
- 10:16Speaker 1: So all the all this stuff in the animal world,
- 10:20Speaker 1: all this stuff in the plant world is triggered by
- 10:23Speaker 1: length of day. Um, things that we might think are
- 10:27Speaker 1: contributed are triggered by weather are in fact triggered by
- 10:33Speaker 1: length of day without the impact on weather. And so
- 10:38Speaker 1: like if you look at things like wind, salmon migrate, right, Um,
- 10:43Speaker 1: there's it's probably bracketed into an appropriate length of day window.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Within that length of day window, there could be like
- 10:50Speaker 1: little things weather could impact how something uses that length
- 10:56Speaker 1: of day window, but the length of day window is fixed.
- 10:59Speaker 1: So we talked about like like why do elk bugle
- 11:01Speaker 1: and people like, oh, you know they're they're not bugling
- 11:04Speaker 1: because it's hot. The rut came late because of this
- 11:06Speaker 1: or early because of that. It generally someone with jenerry
- 11:09Speaker 1: look and say like I can tell you that that
- 11:12Speaker 1: rut is occurring in this bracket of daytime length, because
- 11:17Speaker 1: right now you're losing three and a half minutes of
- 11:19Speaker 1: daylight every day, right so that that it's occurring in
- 11:22Speaker 1: this bracket, and within that bracket there could be these
- 11:24Speaker 1: minor variations depending on temperature, all of these other conditions,
- 11:30Speaker 1: but they're like the main thing that that thing has
- 11:31Speaker 1: gone by when a leaf, when a tree loses it leaves,
- 11:34Speaker 1: it's mostly going by photo period. This guy has some
- 11:39Speaker 1: interesting ship because this guy takes care of solar arrays,
- 11:44Speaker 1: and so they have all these sophisticated meters that measure
- 11:48Speaker 1: length of day, intensity of daylight. And he's watching his
- 11:53Speaker 1: solar arrays during these periods of intense smoke in the
- 11:57Speaker 1: west from forest fires, and he said that on a
- 12:01Speaker 1: on a he's betting on an earlier rot because he's like,
- 12:05Speaker 1: anyway that you'd measure photo period about like intensity of
- 12:09Speaker 1: mid day sun, length of day, like during the smoke,
- 12:13Speaker 1: length of day shortens, intensity of mid day sun diminishes. Boy,
- 12:17Speaker 1: you are really gonna throw our ranch into some people's
- 12:20Speaker 1: planning right now. That's gonna get some people thinking and
- 12:24Speaker 1: turn it in their beds at night that they're thinking
- 12:26Speaker 1: that rout could actually be changed by all the smoke
- 12:29Speaker 1: this country has had this year. Well, the thing is
- 12:30Speaker 1: too this dude wrote a long time ago. I've been
- 12:32Speaker 1: walking around with this email on my phone. But he
- 12:36Speaker 1: was fired up about hunting Labor Day for ELK. He says,
- 12:42Speaker 1: I'm putting all my eggs in the labor day weekend basket.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Luke no credentials labor. It would not have not have
- 12:49Speaker 1: paid out here in Montana, I don't think, because nobody
- 12:53Speaker 1: had great act, great bugling action early. But that length
- 12:57Speaker 1: of day is affected by amount of light or the
- 13:02Speaker 1: time of the number of hours minutes in a day
- 13:06Speaker 1: where there is light. Okay, So my aunt who was
- 13:09Speaker 1: affected by the fires, sent me a photo. It was
- 13:12Speaker 1: like ten am or eleven am in the morning within
- 13:15Speaker 1: her living room and it was just black. She didn't
- 13:18Speaker 1: have any lights on in the house. It was just
- 13:21Speaker 1: it's crazy. I just love California and it's a whole
- 13:24Speaker 1: that like that's part of their life and it's so
- 13:27Speaker 1: weird getting used to not seeing. So when I came
- 13:31Speaker 1: further east and you know, northeast from California, it's like
- 13:36Speaker 1: there's stars again, Like what is this craziness because I
- 13:40Speaker 1: had actually gotten used to not seeing the stars or
- 13:42Speaker 1: even seeing a blue sky, and the sun becomes this
- 13:46Speaker 1: weird color and you get so used to this weird environment.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Then it blows out and you're like, oh, that's right,
- 13:52Speaker 1: that's right, we have we have stars. We had speaking
- 13:57Speaker 1: of photo period. Uh. I remember our little boy. Our
- 14:02Speaker 1: littlest boy was real little. Uh. Days are so long
- 14:06Speaker 1: in the summertime that he goes to bed when it's daylight, right,
- 14:12Speaker 1: and wakes up in his daylight because it's like the
- 14:15Speaker 1: nights never end, you know, or the daytime never ends.
- 14:18Speaker 1: So he'd gone like this for a couple of months
- 14:21Speaker 1: in the summer, which when you're super little, like that's
- 14:23Speaker 1: like a lifetime. And we had to go to a
- 14:25Speaker 1: wedding one night, so he was real late and we
- 14:29Speaker 1: walked outside of the wedding and he said, who turned
- 14:33Speaker 1: the lights out? Because he'd like forgot forgot that. There's
- 14:40Speaker 1: like the thing was called darkness because he has seen
- 14:42Speaker 1: it ship in months. It's just like always daylight out
- 14:46Speaker 1: And now here do y'all get where you wake up
- 14:49Speaker 1: in the dark? And you okay, I figured as much
- 14:53Speaker 1: because that's always interesting, not even just wake up, but
- 14:56Speaker 1: get to work in the dark. And we work in
- 14:58Speaker 1: the dark. Yeah, I always feel lazy, Like I can't
- 15:02Speaker 1: really go to movies in the daytime because when you
- 15:04Speaker 1: come out of a movie and it's daylight, you feel
- 15:06Speaker 1: like you're wasting your life. You know, it's like better
- 15:09Speaker 1: to come out when it's dark so you don't feel
- 15:10Speaker 1: like it's so lazy. But when I go out to
- 15:12Speaker 1: my brother's place in the summer, when we used to
- 15:15Speaker 1: drink a lot, you um, an anchorage. You'd leave the
- 15:19Speaker 1: bar at closing time and it's still light out. That
- 15:22Speaker 1: makes you feel like a real worthless That makes you
- 15:25Speaker 1: feel worthless something they still have daylight. Yeah, Like they
- 15:30Speaker 1: close the bar, walk outside and you can see. Sure
- 15:34Speaker 1: I could have been doing something better with your life. Alright,
- 15:37Speaker 1: last thing for you for we before we dive into
- 15:40Speaker 1: Taylor's inner psyche. Um, this guy rode in. So this
- 15:45Speaker 1: guy goes down hunting. I never hunted this lake, real
- 15:48Speaker 1: foot Lake. You know what it's like. Um, I only
- 15:52Speaker 1: I've been on it, but it's in Tennessee. Yeah, my
- 15:55Speaker 1: brother in law hunted it. So big gass long email
- 15:58Speaker 1: about hunting real at Lake and how they everything they
- 16:01Speaker 1: do is different. And he says that he sends in
- 16:06Speaker 1: a recording, this is like the actual hunt recording, and
- 16:10Speaker 1: he says that the guide they're hunting with that this
- 16:13Speaker 1: is normal, a real foot lake to yell at Mallard's yell,
- 16:20Speaker 1: and he the benefit of the yelling. I don't know,
- 16:25Speaker 1: he said that, and he said it works. So instead
- 16:28Speaker 1: of going like, well the duck call wait wait, wait Wright,
- 16:31Speaker 1: So what did Ramsey Russell? How did he call it?
- 16:36Speaker 1: What was the sound he what was the name of
- 16:38Speaker 1: the sound that he made when he said that guys
- 16:41Speaker 1: would voice ducks in? Yeah, I think that that's what
- 16:43Speaker 1: this dude's responding to. Income or how did he say?
- 16:46Speaker 1: Yank m ame? He had like a what was the
- 16:50Speaker 1: word for it? You know what I mean? Yeah, I
- 16:51Speaker 1: don't remember. So this is this guy, he said, if
- 16:55Speaker 1: you know, play the sound. So and he said, this
- 16:57Speaker 1: dude doing this sound brought birds in. I I sounds
- 17:04Speaker 1: like a kung Fu movie idea. Play him yelling again,
- 17:12Speaker 1: he said, he said, this guy started doing it, and
- 17:14Speaker 1: he's like, what in the world is this guy doing?
- 17:17Speaker 1: And the watches this burgel come right back in. I
- 17:24Speaker 1: I I'll tell you what. I love it, man, I'm trying.
- 17:30Speaker 1: That's all it takes. I'm trying it next time. I
- 17:36Speaker 1: just got an image of Jackie Chan like doing and
- 17:40Speaker 1: then but afterwards he's defeated his like you know, and
- 17:45Speaker 1: then it's like the squeaky floor of him, like we're
- 17:47Speaker 1: just walking away. It's like, that's a good little movie
- 17:50Speaker 1: for that. Yeah, he might have been watching jack He
- 17:52Speaker 1: might have been watching kung fu movies real loud and
- 17:54Speaker 1: watched ducks get pouring in and eventually realized that all
- 17:58Speaker 1: the fight scenes X started coming into That's amazing. Okay,
- 18:05Speaker 1: moving on, Taylor, I'm gonna give you a choice. You
- 18:10Speaker 1: can choose to right off the bat, describe three gun
- 18:16Speaker 1: which is your compet your competitive shooter, Describe your what
- 18:21Speaker 1: do you call your discipline games? Or explain to people
- 18:26Speaker 1: how you live in a camper trailer. It's like, I
- 18:30Speaker 1: don't care which one goes first. I mean, I mean,
- 18:35Speaker 1: and they're intertwined. Well, that's the thing is how do
- 18:37Speaker 1: you go from from one to the other? Is it's
- 18:40Speaker 1: super intertwined? Are you not going to include in either
- 18:44Speaker 1: of those sort of how she got there? You can
- 18:47Speaker 1: go backwards to get there? I think that each based
- 18:52Speaker 1: on some time I stone Taylor, I think that each
- 18:54Speaker 1: would deliver us to the same place. I'm just curious
- 18:58Speaker 1: how she chooses to approach. Oh gosh, she could be like,
- 19:01Speaker 1: so the trailer, yeah, and then do the whole deal.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Would be like, so I like three gun yeah, it's
- 19:08Speaker 1: I would rather start with a camper first, because that's
- 19:11Speaker 1: that's a more easy, bite sized piece. Right. So I
- 19:15Speaker 1: started traveling. Gosh, I'm going into five months now. I
- 19:19Speaker 1: live and travel trailer that I toe with my forerunner
- 19:22Speaker 1: from New Hampshire in Montana right now. But what's interesting
- 19:26Speaker 1: is that I didn't come straight across the country. I
- 19:29Speaker 1: went all the way down to Florida, over to Texas
- 19:32Speaker 1: up through Colorado. So I've done like these huge vs.
- 19:35Speaker 1: So it's not been from point A to point B.
- 19:37Speaker 1: It's been everywhere in between, doing shooting competitions in the
- 19:41Speaker 1: introim and it's been an interesting life. Living on the
- 19:44Speaker 1: road is a full thing in itself, and living on
- 19:47Speaker 1: the road swung back home during the five months. I
- 19:50Speaker 1: flew back home because yeah, yeah, yeah, I was not
- 19:54Speaker 1: going to drive from California to New Hampshire. And then
- 19:58Speaker 1: I just flew back. Most of the country is not
- 20:00Speaker 1: close in New Hampshire, see, and I think I think
- 20:03Speaker 1: that it is. It feels centrally located. Well, I mean,
- 20:09Speaker 1: I think they put Strategic Air Command in Missouri, you
- 20:12Speaker 1: think so, thinking it was close to everything. Yeah, well,
- 20:16Speaker 1: it's just one of those things where there's so many
- 20:17Speaker 1: states in New England, we always feel like we are
- 20:20Speaker 1: a part of just because numerically there's a lot of states.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Because numerically there is a lot of people. I mean,
- 20:26Speaker 1: and there is a lot of people for sure, and
- 20:29Speaker 1: because you have those major cities like Boston, uh, New York, Philadelphia,
- 20:34Speaker 1: that's all in that area. You do sometimes, you know.
- 20:38Speaker 1: But anyway, so coming out to Montana for anything, I
- 20:40Speaker 1: definitely feel like I'm outain the middle of nowhere here,
- 20:42Speaker 1: but I like it for that. Yes, yeah, okay, So now,
- 20:49Speaker 1: because you did that, explain three guns and now we'll
- 20:51Speaker 1: go way back in time, way back in time, Taylor,
- 20:54Speaker 1: in the past. Three guns. Um So, I started competing
- 20:57Speaker 1: three gun in my first competition was in two thousand
- 21:00Speaker 1: and sixteen. But I don't count that. Explain it like
- 21:03Speaker 1: I'm five years old. I would say it the same
- 21:06Speaker 1: way I talked very maturely to five year old Is it? Yeah?
- 21:12Speaker 1: What is it? Someone's like, I've never heard of this
- 21:14Speaker 1: thing until today. I didn't know what the hell I mean,
- 21:17Speaker 1: I knew just I was confused between Cowboy action pistol shots. Right.
- 21:22Speaker 1: You were asking all these questions about sass, and it's
- 21:25Speaker 1: like they called sas s s so it's couldn't find
- 21:33Speaker 1: a way to throw a y on the end. Youth
- 21:36Speaker 1: like the youth league is sassy. You should ask them.
- 21:38Speaker 1: I bet they would be up for it, because there
- 21:40Speaker 1: are some pretty sassy people that shoot. When I heard when,
- 21:43Speaker 1: when I used to think I had three gun and
- 21:48Speaker 1: Cowboy action shooting mixed up? Did this like rock your world? Then? When?
- 21:53Speaker 1: Because I hadn't figured out before today. But I mean,
- 21:56Speaker 1: had you talked to me a year ago, I would
- 21:58Speaker 1: have been I was a tad confused. Okay, yeah, because
- 22:01Speaker 1: Cowboy action shooting. So these are basically all the sports
- 22:05Speaker 1: that we're talking about right now is action shooting sports.
- 22:08Speaker 1: So there's all sorts of different disciplines within competition shooting.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Bulls eye shooting is that you know when you see
- 22:14Speaker 1: the guys standing sideways with one hand and his pistol
- 22:17Speaker 1: and he's taking a sweet time to get this super
- 22:20Speaker 1: super tight group with his Normally it's like a twenty
- 22:23Speaker 1: two or something like that. Right, So you have those
- 22:26Speaker 1: kind of competitions you have Sometimes people ask me if
- 22:29Speaker 1: three guns like buy athletes where you ski and then
- 22:32Speaker 1: you shoot the twenty two rifles. I guess that might
- 22:35Speaker 1: be moving a little bit better and closer to the
- 22:37Speaker 1: right direction because you're moving, But it is also again
- 22:40Speaker 1: very different. Um and so with action shooting, you are
- 22:43Speaker 1: basically running with guns, and it's all time and accuracy.
- 22:46Speaker 1: So it's how fast can you shoot these target? It
- 22:50Speaker 1: is it's legit running with guns. How fast can you
- 22:52Speaker 1: be and how accurate can you be while you are
- 22:55Speaker 1: moving quickly? Which makes it a lot of fun. And
- 22:58Speaker 1: why it's like, you know, even though we gotta keep it,
- 23:02Speaker 1: we still haven't explained three guns. But that's my fault. Now,
- 23:05Speaker 1: you don't like skeet shooters are not your kin folk.
- 23:09Speaker 1: They are not. But I did spend my first three
- 23:12Speaker 1: years of competition shooting in sporting plays. Yes, okay, so
- 23:16Speaker 1: we'll hit that when we back. I maybe I don't
- 23:21Speaker 1: think I knew that now you did not fun fact
- 23:23Speaker 1: Why is it even called three guns because there's three guns. Yeah,
- 23:27Speaker 1: three times the amount of fun. It's awesome. So pistol, shotgun, rifle,
- 23:32Speaker 1: and you transition between all those firearms under a course
- 23:35Speaker 1: of fire, which is basically that obstacle course that we
- 23:39Speaker 1: had set up today where you shoot all these different targets.
- 23:43Speaker 1: And what's interesting, and we didn't even talk about this today,
- 23:46Speaker 1: is how flexible these competitions could be and how the
- 23:50Speaker 1: stages can change. So what I mean by that is
- 23:53Speaker 1: you could have a three gun competition where you only
- 23:55Speaker 1: shoot one gun in a stage, but the next one
- 23:57Speaker 1: you might shoot two, and then one after that you
- 23:59Speaker 1: might shoot three. So there's an in the stage is
- 24:01Speaker 1: like holes of a golf course. Um, I mean maybe
- 24:06Speaker 1: I'm not as familiar with golf. Well, it would be like, um,
- 24:10Speaker 1: like in a tournament. Okay, good, well know, like in
- 24:14Speaker 1: a tournament like we did at one stage today, correct,
- 24:16Speaker 1: it's correct? Okay, So we did one So we did
- 24:20Speaker 1: one stage day in which you shot rifle. We shot
- 24:23Speaker 1: rifle at one to four or five targets, shot a
- 24:27Speaker 1: shotgun at a half dozen targets, shot a pistol. Maybe
- 24:31Speaker 1: how Ballpark nine targets in that order. So that was
- 24:36Speaker 1: a stage. But in a tournament, all of sudden you
- 24:39Speaker 1: moved to a new it. Yes, but how many stages
- 24:43Speaker 1: might there be in a tournament. It depends on the
- 24:46Speaker 1: level that the competition is at. So your average local
- 24:49Speaker 1: match that's what we call them as match, um, will
- 24:51Speaker 1: be you know, maybe anywhere from like five to seven
- 24:55Speaker 1: depending on the side to it. We did today seven
- 24:58Speaker 1: different setups. You just rotate. Travis was another fellow that
- 25:05Speaker 1: I'm guessing you know, well, you guys seem like you
- 25:08Speaker 1: guys were buddies, but um, he also shoots competitively correct
- 25:12Speaker 1: maybe as a pro even so, for those of y'all
- 25:15Speaker 1: who are listening, we're talking about Travis Gibson of MGM Targets,
- 25:18Speaker 1: Okay and easy, a pro three gunner, Yeah, okay, still now, well,
- 25:23Speaker 1: he's definitely an industry yeah, very well known. And he
- 25:26Speaker 1: was saying that he had one recently where he shot
- 25:28Speaker 1: sixteen stages. Is former military? Is it bad that I
- 25:33Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know, I don't know's I don't know.
- 25:36Speaker 1: I'm not sure, but I would I would hate to
- 25:40Speaker 1: say if if he did have a stint. And but
- 25:43Speaker 1: that's not how we got into all of this. There
- 25:45Speaker 1: was there was nothing. I know that for a fact,
- 25:47Speaker 1: Seth Bergsy was there and he was former military, right,
- 25:49Speaker 1: but that's yeah, but that's different. So but there's not
- 25:52Speaker 1: always that that military crossover, um. But just to step backwards.
- 25:55Speaker 1: So it depends on the size the level. We call
- 25:58Speaker 1: them different levels of three gun competitions. So your normal
- 26:03Speaker 1: local match will have again five to seven, you know,
- 26:07Speaker 1: maybe eight if some match directors like super ambitious, and
- 26:10Speaker 1: then from there you have sort of your you know,
- 26:13Speaker 1: maybe regional matches if you will, and those will have
- 26:16Speaker 1: anywhere from maybe like seven to ten to twelve. And
- 26:20Speaker 1: then your national level competitions will typically have at least
- 26:23Speaker 1: twelve plus um, your your average national will be right
- 26:27Speaker 1: around those early to mid team mark. Uh, you know
- 26:31Speaker 1: what we ought to do real quick, explain the explain
- 26:34Speaker 1: the guns you're shooting. You're shooting a a r platform
- 26:37Speaker 1: rifle like walk through all the and then the shotguns
- 26:40Speaker 1: like northing I've ever seen and compared to I mean,
- 26:45Speaker 1: it's the same thing I've ever seen, but I mean
- 26:46Speaker 1: it's like accessorized the guns. So competition shooters, we have
- 26:52Speaker 1: a lot of fun with our gearsh you have your handgun.
- 26:55Speaker 1: And so keep in mind too that I could spend
- 26:58Speaker 1: an incredible amount of time to ribing this because there's
- 27:00Speaker 1: so many different divisions. So you have open division, a
- 27:03Speaker 1: limited division, and heavy metal. I'm not even going to
- 27:06Speaker 1: dig into it because yeah, you have to explain that
- 27:11Speaker 1: so that you remember you when you asked earlier today,
- 27:14Speaker 1: you said, does anyone shoot anything other than nine? Like
- 27:17Speaker 1: do they go for the bigger calibers? That's heavy metal.
- 27:19Speaker 1: So those guys are shooting like a forty or forty five.
- 27:22Speaker 1: They have a twelve gage shotgun. Um, and then with
- 27:25Speaker 1: the rifle, they're using a larger caliber rifle, so they're
- 27:28Speaker 1: not using six. Those guys will come out with a
- 27:31Speaker 1: three o eight. Some of them have like M one grand.
- 27:34Speaker 1: It's like, it's really cool, but it's a niche thing.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Those guys are like in their own because because you
- 27:40Speaker 1: guys are totally mainstream. Oh yeah, yeah, I'm sorry. Do
- 27:49Speaker 1: you have any idea how many competitive three gun shooters
- 27:54Speaker 1: are there in the country. So it's hard to say numbers,
- 27:58Speaker 1: but when you guestimate. So when when I've talked with
- 28:01Speaker 1: people about marketing in the past, what we have said
- 28:04Speaker 1: is that like, let's say you have a social media
- 28:06Speaker 1: account or you know, whatever it is. If you gather
- 28:10Speaker 1: ten thousand, you probably have most of the market, right,
- 28:13Speaker 1: So that is the number that I could come to
- 28:15Speaker 1: the table review. It is yes and no. So it's
- 28:20Speaker 1: the pre COVID yes right now? Oh yeah, everything. Yeah.
- 28:25Speaker 1: So it's it's a really weird time because fire ownership
- 28:28Speaker 1: is obviously rising exponentially. Um, but competition shooting isn't everybody
- 28:34Speaker 1: traveling somewhere and getting together and having a hole down
- 28:37Speaker 1: is well no, So the problem is that most of
- 28:41Speaker 1: the competitions have been canceled. Right. So I was supposed
- 28:43Speaker 1: to have hit the road back in March, but then
- 28:45Speaker 1: nationals got canceled or postponed, I should say, um, and
- 28:48Speaker 1: then another area match got postponed. So all these things
- 28:50Speaker 1: have been either postponed or canceled, right. Um, so that
- 28:54Speaker 1: was a big issue. So how are you supposed to
- 28:56Speaker 1: get more people involved if we are postponing or canceling
- 28:59Speaker 1: all the competition? But when and I someone to get
- 29:02Speaker 1: back to the walk through the guns? But real quick,
- 29:04Speaker 1: when did someone first utter the words three gun tournament?
- 29:13Speaker 1: It wasn't ten was it ten years ago? Oh no
- 29:16Speaker 1: longer than that twenty Um, I would say three gun tournament. Yeah, match,
- 29:26Speaker 1: like you could have gone to a three gun match
- 29:27Speaker 1: a decade ago. Oh absolutely, Yeah. So the the O
- 29:31Speaker 1: G guys, I mean they come back from you know,
- 29:34Speaker 1: early two thousand's and it all started. Um it was
- 29:37Speaker 1: like a law enforcement match basically where they ended up
- 29:40Speaker 1: inviting um, you know, people who were non l e
- 29:44Speaker 1: O and then you young whipper snappers started beating them
- 29:47Speaker 1: at their own game. It just evolved. Yeah, it evolved.
- 29:50Speaker 1: So it's it's been around for a while. Um, but
- 29:54Speaker 1: maybe because of sources like YouTube, I think is probably
- 29:57Speaker 1: why it's gained perhaps more public light, because it's getting
- 30:01Speaker 1: more exposure where before we were just kind of doing
- 30:03Speaker 1: our own thing and then maybe knew about it. Does
- 30:06Speaker 1: that make sense? Yeah, okay, do the guns, but do
- 30:09Speaker 1: it like if you imagine one being on a sliding scale.
- 30:16Speaker 1: A one treatment would be rifle, pistol, shotgun. A ten
- 30:21Speaker 1: treatment would be like, um, this trigger tuned this way, okay,
- 30:27Speaker 1: this upper, this lower Sarah coated like that's one in ten.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Hit me with like a five okay five. The guns, Yeah,
- 30:41Speaker 1: so I'll try not to dub it down to like
- 30:43Speaker 1: a three or four, but you have your handgun right. Again,
- 30:47Speaker 1: it depends on your division as to what handgun you
- 30:49Speaker 1: are going to shoot, but typically we're looking at nine
- 30:52Speaker 1: millimeter when it comes to three gun in particular. Um,
- 30:56Speaker 1: there's other disciplines out there where it can make a difference,
- 30:58Speaker 1: but we're going to leave that out of picture. And
- 31:00Speaker 1: I'm just saying that more for the listeners who are like,
- 31:02Speaker 1: what about major power factor? We're just talking about three
- 31:04Speaker 1: gun right now? So that yeah, that listener, right, So
- 31:09Speaker 1: we're just talking about three guns. So it's going to
- 31:11Speaker 1: be nine millimeter semi automatic. Uh So today we were
- 31:15Speaker 1: shooting SIGs the X five legions. Is that where you
- 31:17Speaker 1: normally shoot? That's my gun, That's what I have. Yeah,
- 31:21Speaker 1: so that's what a lot of people are going to
- 31:23Speaker 1: be shooting as a striker fire firearm like that. Uh
- 31:26Speaker 1: and then you have a lot of really great limited
- 31:28Speaker 1: or open guns that you could introduce as well. So
- 31:30Speaker 1: all that is doing just so y'aller no, or those
- 31:32Speaker 1: are custom built firearms that are made out of their
- 31:35Speaker 1: their all metal, right, all metal, like think of a
- 31:38Speaker 1: nineteen eleven. Are you familiar with the eleven? No, ninety.
- 31:43Speaker 1: Imagine everything you love about a nineteen eleven and then
- 31:46Speaker 1: you add twice the m oh oh oh yeah, because
- 31:49Speaker 1: they're because they're because they're staggered in the magazine or
- 31:52Speaker 1: what cor Right, So it's a double stacked like a glock.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Pistols staggered magazine. Right, that's why they're still like burly
- 31:57Speaker 1: in the hand group. But it's um But a glock
- 31:59Speaker 1: is a strike a fire. It's polymer gun, where a
- 32:01Speaker 1: nineteen eleven it's nice and it's it's heavy, and it
- 32:04Speaker 1: fits great and they shoot nice and flat. Right. Uh.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Son are typically custom built. I mean you have some
- 32:10Speaker 1: that are factory built as well, but in some form
- 32:13Speaker 1: or fashion there's some sort of hand fitting going on.
- 32:16Speaker 1: So they tend to be pretty expensive than open guns.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Uh So at the end of the a R you
- 32:21Speaker 1: know how there is a you know, uh, there's a
- 32:23Speaker 1: compensator at the end. Basically there's this muzzle break. So
- 32:26Speaker 1: you put that on a pistol. And when you put
- 32:28Speaker 1: that on pistol along with some other things, and again
- 32:31Speaker 1: I'm really dumbing it down. Oh no, no, no, no,
- 32:34Speaker 1: you would have known. So again for those listeners that
- 32:36Speaker 1: are going in, I'm I'm dubbing this down to probably
- 32:39Speaker 1: a three right now, right, Okay, I'm not going to
- 32:41Speaker 1: get an open guns and its entirety because you can
- 32:44Speaker 1: see my enthusiasm. But oh, I want to go eleven.
- 32:50Speaker 1: But you put a compensator at the end of those pistols,
- 32:53Speaker 1: that's an open gun. Uh, that is going to keep
- 32:56Speaker 1: you shooting. Just flat flat fluff flaff flaights awesome. So
- 33:00Speaker 1: there's different divisions, but they're mostly all going to be
- 33:03Speaker 1: chambered in nine and you shoot, so you should open
- 33:07Speaker 1: site too, but you do use a red dot. Okay,
- 33:10Speaker 1: So just so people don't get confused, open guns typically
- 33:12Speaker 1: have optics on the handgun. What what Steve meant what
- 33:16Speaker 1: open site is iron sight? So I was shooting an
- 33:19Speaker 1: iron sight fire. I do both. So I had the
- 33:24Speaker 1: week before Nationals. Both my primary and my backup red
- 33:27Speaker 1: dot went down in the same week before Nationals, so
- 33:30Speaker 1: I went back to irons and I just haven't gotten
- 33:32Speaker 1: the gumption to buy two more. And because I live
- 33:36Speaker 1: on the road, right, the warrant he thing, it doesn't
- 33:38Speaker 1: really matter because shipping is a nightmare. So yeah, they
- 33:41Speaker 1: warrant heated. So I have one sitting in New Hampshire,
- 33:44Speaker 1: somewhere where you're going. Yeah, I mean I don't know
- 33:48Speaker 1: where I'm going to be too. Are you? Are you
- 33:50Speaker 1: breaking all those I had a red dot my kid
- 33:52Speaker 1: broken like five minutes. What because like, like, here's a
- 33:56Speaker 1: glass thing to put on the end of a gun
- 33:59Speaker 1: like thing. He's going to do with it? That's no excuse.
- 34:01Speaker 1: He instantly broke it, broke it in two ways, like,
- 34:05Speaker 1: broke it twice. That completely unrelated breaks. Wow, because I
- 34:10Speaker 1: mean you stripped the head on, stripped some of the hardware.
- 34:15Speaker 1: He's an animal, well, and then broke the glass. You
- 34:17Speaker 1: should have him to You aren't act like he didn't
- 34:20Speaker 1: know what happened. Wow, that's impressive. Well, I am really
- 34:24Speaker 1: rough on on this stuff, and mine just broke sort
- 34:27Speaker 1: of because I think that it's over time, right, so
- 34:30Speaker 1: the electronic component was no longer functioning. So what happens.
- 34:33Speaker 1: You would turn on and I would think it was on.
- 34:35Speaker 1: I'd start to engage targets, and then um, the dot
- 34:39Speaker 1: would just disappear, which is really inconvenient when you're in
- 34:42Speaker 1: the middle of the stage. Yeah, and that happened at
- 34:44Speaker 1: both kind of like iron sights. Just the reliability, Yeah,
- 34:48Speaker 1: I know, sad um, ask some more pills you got,
- 34:52Speaker 1: Yani Yani? He kind of he might have question. No, No,
- 34:57Speaker 1: I think we're pretty I was just gonna say, we
- 34:58Speaker 1: can move on to the shotgun. Yeah, going in backwards order.
- 35:02Speaker 1: I guess it doesn't matter. It could be whatever you want. Yeah,
- 35:05Speaker 1: you taught us in backwards order. Why do you say
- 35:08Speaker 1: that because we started with yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I
- 35:14Speaker 1: had my reasons for that. So what Steve was saying
- 35:17Speaker 1: is that, you know, the stage we shot today was rifle, shotgun,
- 35:21Speaker 1: then pistol. But that's not fixed either. It could be
- 35:24Speaker 1: that was just today. But I taught them pistol, rifle,
- 35:29Speaker 1: then shotguns. So that's why he's saying I taught backwards
- 35:32Speaker 1: But anyways, that's a different conversation. I had reasons for
- 35:35Speaker 1: why I did that. So Danny's new nickname is Teacup Ticcop.
- 35:38Speaker 1: By the way, I love that. I think it fits
- 35:41Speaker 1: you very well. Well. I told him earlier that it
- 35:44Speaker 1: was going to really suck to get whooped and burned
- 35:47Speaker 1: by Teacup. I guess what happened? How does that feel?
- 35:56Speaker 1: What was my stage name? Oh wait wait wait facebox
- 35:59Speaker 1: facebox spots. Yeah, I poured dribbled t all over your
- 36:04Speaker 1: face box. I am so sorry. This has just brought
- 36:08Speaker 1: up a lot of really weird I will stick away
- 36:12Speaker 1: from that. So the shotgun, that is, people ask me
- 36:15Speaker 1: all the time, what's your favorite gun? And I hate
- 36:17Speaker 1: answering that. Didn't you say that earlier? Someone asked you, like,
- 36:20Speaker 1: what's your Because it depends on the application, right, So
- 36:24Speaker 1: it's all depended upon the situation as to what my
- 36:27Speaker 1: quote unquote favor gun. But I will say, if I'm
- 36:29Speaker 1: having a bad day, the shotgun will always make me happy.
- 36:33Speaker 1: There's just something so fun about that scattered gun. And
- 36:37Speaker 1: the other thing is I do think it's really versatile. Right.
- 36:41Speaker 1: So the shotgun, Um, you could do a close quarter
- 36:44Speaker 1: stuff with it, right, Um, you could do home defense,
- 36:47Speaker 1: you could go hunting with it. You have a bird shot,
- 36:50Speaker 1: you have slugs, you have you know, buckshot, and then
- 36:53Speaker 1: you could choke it too different patterns. So there is
- 36:57Speaker 1: a lot of versatility with that fire. But the shotguns
- 37:01Speaker 1: that we use for a three gun are semi automatic.
- 37:04Speaker 1: There's some heavy metal guys that like to torture themselves
- 37:06Speaker 1: with pump but that's very very rare in this competition.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Most everyone's going to be semi automatic fire UM for
- 37:13Speaker 1: the shotgun and real quick on that on the heavy
- 37:16Speaker 1: metal guys UM, so a pump a guy could theoretically
- 37:20Speaker 1: be competing. I should point out to people that they're
- 37:23Speaker 1: competing for time, like you have to hit the targets,
- 37:26Speaker 1: but it's like doing it all really quickly. So a
- 37:30Speaker 1: person would go toe to toe with a slide action
- 37:34Speaker 1: shotgun need to go toe to toe with someone shooting
- 37:36Speaker 1: a semiauto and still have a prayer to win if
- 37:40Speaker 1: they're good enough. There's very very few people that are
- 37:43Speaker 1: good enough to do that, but there are one or
- 37:45Speaker 1: two out there who who do. And you have to
- 37:47Speaker 1: have the shotgun for it, right because as y'all know,
- 37:49Speaker 1: there's some pump action shotguns that are just smooth as butter.
- 37:52Speaker 1: It's like it practically does it for you. And then
- 37:54Speaker 1: there's others that like forget about it, like that's not happening.
- 37:59Speaker 1: So somebody automatic and then twelve gauge UM. Technically per
- 38:02Speaker 1: the rules, some like twenty gauge would be acceptable, but
- 38:06Speaker 1: no one does that. You're just giving yourself less bbs
- 38:09Speaker 1: to have on target. And in my personal experience, a
- 38:13Speaker 1: twelve and twenty gauge when you're shooting. Semi automatic shotguns
- 38:16Speaker 1: have about the same amount of recoil um. So I
- 38:19Speaker 1: don't see the benefit with an extended tube that extends
- 38:35Speaker 1: out the end so far that I thought that your
- 38:38Speaker 1: shotgun was going to hit the tube. Yeah right, the
- 38:42Speaker 1: gun was going to actually blow the end of the magazine.
- 38:45Speaker 1: It does, not sticking out way past the barrel. It
- 38:48Speaker 1: is so these shotguns look, they look really crazy. It's all.
- 38:55Speaker 1: It's all too It's all. The tube is what you're seeing.
- 38:57Speaker 1: So the barrel is a normal link barrel of anything.
- 38:59Speaker 1: It might be slightly shorter than what you would use
- 39:01Speaker 1: really sporting plays or whatever, but the tube is is yeah,
- 39:05Speaker 1: it's on yours. Yeah yeah, yeah, is like way too
- 39:11Speaker 1: long for this game. There's no use for it because
- 39:13Speaker 1: most everything that we do is pretty close with the shotgun. Right.
- 39:17Speaker 1: You might get some aerial clay presentations, but it's so
- 39:20Speaker 1: far in between. You're not wanting to because a maneuverability
- 39:23Speaker 1: factor because that the actube is already so long. I mean,
- 39:26Speaker 1: you don't want to add to weight because weight is
- 39:28Speaker 1: a big factor. You get you're so fatigued. I mean, Karen,
- 39:32Speaker 1: you know because my shoulders or yeah, oh is your
- 39:35Speaker 1: shoulder bruised up from shooting today? No, I don't think. So.
- 39:38Speaker 1: It was just when I was, uh that that gun
- 39:43Speaker 1: just kept kind of yeah yeah, just like stopping and
- 39:48Speaker 1: you know, and then I was like, I just took
- 39:49Speaker 1: breaks in the middle because my shoulders just posturing and
- 39:52Speaker 1: holding it a little tired, and just they got they
- 39:55Speaker 1: got Bernie. Yeah waits waight. It's huge. So I just
- 39:58Speaker 1: had a whole chain of thoughts go through my head.
- 40:01Speaker 1: That was probably an eleven in terms of like, oh,
- 40:04Speaker 1: all the fun accessories I have on my shotguns. So
- 40:06Speaker 1: I'm going to rill it in a five. So I'm
- 40:07Speaker 1: gonna drop it right there. So what I shoot just
- 40:10Speaker 1: that people are curious as a bread to be twelve eye,
- 40:12Speaker 1: which is basically the same as a Vanilli in two right,
- 40:16Speaker 1: which is very comparable to what you were shooting today
- 40:18Speaker 1: with weather be very similar platform, but with the aftermarket
- 40:21Speaker 1: like specialized everything. Yeah yeah, so strip it down and
- 40:25Speaker 1: put all new parts on a lot of it. Yeah,
- 40:27Speaker 1: So uh I Dissident Arms is very very common aftermarket
- 40:32Speaker 1: company in the competition world. So that crazy handguard, that
- 40:36Speaker 1: the trigger guard, the trigger you know, everything, and then Briley,
- 40:39Speaker 1: which you'll probably know just from regular shotgun shooting. Uh,
- 40:42Speaker 1: there's a lot of those parts into it. So it's
- 40:44Speaker 1: pretty it's pretty juiced up. It's pretty fun. Yeah. Yeah,
- 40:48Speaker 1: so you spent a lot of time ranching on your gun. Yeah, yeah,
- 40:51Speaker 1: it's fun. That's uh, that's what we do. And are
- 40:54Speaker 1: there rules and rigs about what you can do to
- 40:57Speaker 1: your firearms? Uh? I mean I would imagine, because then
- 41:01Speaker 1: people might have unfair advantages. But you know, is it
- 41:05Speaker 1: is it very structured? Is it very kind of boundaried
- 41:09Speaker 1: around what you can and can't do? Or people can
- 41:11Speaker 1: get really creative and so yes, So no, again, it's
- 41:15Speaker 1: it's hard not to spend and I don't want to,
- 41:18Speaker 1: you know, spend the entire time because I could talk
- 41:20Speaker 1: like for probably an hour talking about the different divisions
- 41:23Speaker 1: and what's acceptable within those divisions. But in a nutshell
- 41:26Speaker 1: open which we talked about before, that has a compensator,
- 41:29Speaker 1: that has the optic, you could pretty much do whatever
- 41:32Speaker 1: you want. Hence open, it's open to possibilities. You can
- 41:35Speaker 1: do whatever you want, um as long as it's safe. Right.
- 41:38Speaker 1: So some people will get really really into their trigger
- 41:43Speaker 1: work and they'll make it too light, and so now
- 41:45Speaker 1: the gun is unsafe because they breathe on it and
- 41:47Speaker 1: the trigger is going on. That's a problem. Whatever the hell.
- 41:51Speaker 1: It's not a league where there is some governing body
- 41:54Speaker 1: that yeah yeah, yeah, uh and the same. So it
- 41:58Speaker 1: just goes upon the vision that you're in is dependent.
- 42:02Speaker 1: So as shotgun, mag fed shotguns are huge now, I
- 42:05Speaker 1: would say about three or four years ago, it's a mafed.
- 42:09Speaker 1: So you know how that the pistol in the rifle,
- 42:10Speaker 1: those with magazines, it's the lingo. But that's the thing
- 42:16Speaker 1: is again, I am used to talking to people who
- 42:20Speaker 1: this is also their world. So I love questions like
- 42:22Speaker 1: that because I forget about how much is our lingo. Plus,
- 42:28Speaker 1: there's no like, there's no mag fed shotguns, I should say,
- 42:32Speaker 1: in like in the mainstream in the in the hunting world,
- 42:37Speaker 1: because I mean, like unless you go back to you
- 42:39Speaker 1: like they used to be mag fed bold action shotguns.
- 42:42Speaker 1: We had a couple that I was laying around, but
- 42:44Speaker 1: just so like just rare. Right. Well, so two or
- 42:48Speaker 1: three years ago someone came up to a competition with
- 42:50Speaker 1: a mag fed shotgun. Everyone would sort of brush it
- 42:53Speaker 1: off because we're like they're going to have so many
- 42:55Speaker 1: malfunctions anyways, they're not going to be competitive. Where now
- 42:58Speaker 1: people show up with mag fe chocun. It's gain popularity incredibly. Uh,
- 43:03Speaker 1: it's serious business. As someone who's shooting a tube fat chocun.
- 43:07Speaker 1: We can't really compete with that. So again that's why
- 43:08Speaker 1: we had different divisions. Right, I want to explain. I
- 43:11Speaker 1: want to explain quad loading real quickly. Oh my god,
- 43:13Speaker 1: your face. So Taylor has like highly accessorized like a
- 43:20Speaker 1: belt that holds all the magazines. It's like a tool belt,
- 43:25Speaker 1: very sophisticated tool belt, and on it was the thing
- 43:28Speaker 1: that holds Tommy holds shoun eight choculn shells. So y'all's
- 43:32Speaker 1: had eight, um mine, I have to. I have one
- 43:35Speaker 1: for eight, one for twelve, okay, And it stacks them
- 43:38Speaker 1: so that you can just reach down blind. I don't
- 43:41Speaker 1: try to get too much detail. You can reach down
- 43:43Speaker 1: blind and pull away four shotgun shells stacked like a
- 43:49Speaker 1: stack of two and a stack of two and and
- 43:52Speaker 1: and the stack is end to end, end to end stacked,
- 43:55Speaker 1: so you're holding your your hand is gripped around four
- 44:00Speaker 1: shotgun shells stacked end to end. Then she like, in
- 44:08Speaker 1: a sort of moment of magic, turns the shotgun upside
- 44:12Speaker 1: down so the so the feeding apparatus is facing up,
- 44:17Speaker 1: and then loads with one press of the thumb. This
- 44:20Speaker 1: is free hand shotgun shells. Loads with one press of
- 44:23Speaker 1: the thumb two into the tube and then two into
- 44:27Speaker 1: the tube. But in like like a couple of seconds.
- 44:32Speaker 1: I don't know, what the hell, it's less than that.
- 44:33Speaker 1: It's like, I don't know, it'sensive. It's like, yeah, we're
- 44:38Speaker 1: talking about in tents earlier, because in competition shooting we
- 44:41Speaker 1: talk in tents a lot. And they're like, what you're
- 44:44Speaker 1: You're down to that level. And I'm like, oh yeah, okay,
- 44:46Speaker 1: all right, let's really it back up. The second quad
- 44:49Speaker 1: loading is really something picture the world duck hunting, where
- 44:54Speaker 1: it'd just be two that you'd have one of those
- 44:57Speaker 1: things to your the shoulder strap on your way do
- 45:00Speaker 1: it and just yeah, instead of like digging around your
- 45:04Speaker 1: pockets and ship looking for him, you just be like wha.
- 45:06Speaker 1: It's so much more efficient. And that's what's funny. It's
- 45:09Speaker 1: coming in today, so normally people the and again that's
- 45:13Speaker 1: where I could talk about this stuff forever. The evolution
- 45:16Speaker 1: of loading a shotgund because used to, people would feed
- 45:19Speaker 1: them in with their thumb one by one, which is
- 45:21Speaker 1: maybe even how y'all do it right now? I don't,
- 45:23Speaker 1: I don't know, um and yeah, forget that stuff. And
- 45:29Speaker 1: then dual loading. So used to because I could dual load,
- 45:34Speaker 1: uh like eight rounds and about I would say, you know,
- 45:39Speaker 1: four to five seconds something like that, right, which is
- 45:41Speaker 1: very respectable, And in my opinion, because I have really
- 45:45Speaker 1: small hands, I was like, if I could consistently dual load,
- 45:48Speaker 1: then what's the what is it worth to start quad loading?
- 45:51Speaker 1: Because it could go wrong real side, you know, sideways,
- 45:54Speaker 1: real quick. Um oh yeah, yeah yeah um. If you
- 46:00Speaker 1: become proficient qualding, then you're that much more competitive. So
- 46:03Speaker 1: coming in today, I'm like, am I going to make
- 46:04Speaker 1: these guys quad load? And then I'm like, hell, yeah, no, no,
- 46:08Speaker 1: it was good to know. Yeah, you guys have got
- 46:10Speaker 1: to quad load. There's no excuse. I'm not going to
- 46:13Speaker 1: start you off at these baby steps. We're just going
- 46:15Speaker 1: for it. And I'm so happy because they'll look on
- 46:18Speaker 1: your face. You're like I could just see you being
- 46:21Speaker 1: somewhere hunting and you're like, I need to you know,
- 46:24Speaker 1: you know, where that will come in handyes on like
- 46:26Speaker 1: a no plug snow goose hunt or even just like
- 46:30Speaker 1: just do not. You can't quad load with for ducks
- 46:33Speaker 1: because it's the three shell maximum, but you can still
- 46:36Speaker 1: dual load, not for sure. Oh yeah, I mean if
- 46:39Speaker 1: you imagine just that whole. Sorry to interrupt, but just
- 46:42Speaker 1: like the different um the way you flip your gun
- 46:46Speaker 1: up and then how you put your thumb and orient
- 46:49Speaker 1: your thumb and the way you push it in there,
- 46:52Speaker 1: you're a lot less apt to get like the messed
- 46:55Speaker 1: up thumb from jamming it in too far, like everybody
- 46:58Speaker 1: gets at some point, you know, your thumbs are cold
- 47:00Speaker 1: there in the duck blind and this is just like
- 47:02Speaker 1: a much more efficient way to get that business done with. Okay,
- 47:06Speaker 1: hit us with the rifle. Now, okay, the rifle. So
- 47:09Speaker 1: the rifle is almost always going to be a our platform,
- 47:13Speaker 1: rifle chambered in six no way to hold your own
- 47:17Speaker 1: with any other thing. Oh I mean, people do it again,
- 47:20Speaker 1: like you know mentioned earlier, People come out with you know,
- 47:24Speaker 1: fun like end fields or in one grands or whatever.
- 47:27Speaker 1: They're having fun. But that's the most competitive platform. That's
- 47:30Speaker 1: what most everyone's going to do. Regardless of you're in
- 47:32Speaker 1: a limited, an open class, or tactical class. Most everyone
- 47:37Speaker 1: is shooting uh an a r that's chambered into six.
- 47:41Speaker 1: That's really it. The the other people who are shooting
- 47:44Speaker 1: different you know rifles that those are the outliers. Those
- 47:47Speaker 1: those are typically your heavy metal guys that are just like,
- 47:50Speaker 1: we're here to have fun. I got my grandpa's gun
- 47:52Speaker 1: and we're you know the bayonet. Remember you nearly honest
- 47:55Speaker 1: nearly stabbed target. It was impressive. Uh yeah, So they'll
- 48:00Speaker 1: put their bandets on and have fun. And is it
- 48:03Speaker 1: always is it? It's not always scoped right Like you
- 48:07Speaker 1: can use a red dot too correct. So if you're
- 48:09Speaker 1: shooting limited, you have a that is an unscoped rightful
- 48:13Speaker 1: uh unlimited, so you have iron sights. And then so
- 48:17Speaker 1: I used to shoot limited, I did it with a
- 48:18Speaker 1: red dot, which is unmagnified. So I've literally just got
- 48:20Speaker 1: that one little dot. So they'll let you use a
- 48:22Speaker 1: red dot and limited correct and then there's no magnification.
- 48:26Speaker 1: There's no magnification, it's just a dot um. And then
- 48:29Speaker 1: when you go up to tactical, which is what we
- 48:31Speaker 1: were doing them, that's when you introduce magnification. So today
- 48:35Speaker 1: I think, so Vortex we had this strike Eagle, which
- 48:39Speaker 1: is I shouldn't know because I had one years ago.
- 48:41Speaker 1: But it's like a one to six, I think, um,
- 48:43Speaker 1: and then all the way up to the new Vortex raser,
- 48:46Speaker 1: which is a one to ten and that's a that's
- 48:48Speaker 1: a beautiful scope and on that. You know, I don't
- 48:50Speaker 1: know if this is something I think people that hunt
- 48:53Speaker 1: will appreciate, is you guys have a little contraption for
- 48:58Speaker 1: dialing magnification. Like normally when you dial magnification on the scope,
- 49:03Speaker 1: that accessory piece that the cattail, Yeah, you gotta grab
- 49:07Speaker 1: it like you're trying to kill a chicken when normally
- 49:10Speaker 1: when you go to dial when you go to dial magnification.
- 49:13Speaker 1: But you guys hooked that little lever on there, yeah,
- 49:16Speaker 1: which just lets you like like a major mechanical advantage
- 49:20Speaker 1: these things that walk I don't know if you noticed
- 49:22Speaker 1: he walked away with one of those Oh you did
- 49:27Speaker 1: this slow nod. I'm sick of trying to kill chickens
- 49:33Speaker 1: when I want to dial up. Yeah. No, it makes
- 49:35Speaker 1: dialing up like it really gives you like a strong lever. Yeah, absolutely,
- 49:40Speaker 1: you can't know why would you not? I mean, but
- 49:42Speaker 1: that's the thing is that we had to get into
- 49:45Speaker 1: our gear. That's why earlier I was so enthusiastic about
- 49:47Speaker 1: talking about all this stuff because we are a how
- 49:51Speaker 1: do you say, um? Like Yankee ingenuity. If you would
- 49:54Speaker 1: think of it, you can kind of figure it out. Yeah,
- 49:56Speaker 1: and the quick dial what's the name brand on that
- 49:59Speaker 1: quick down view change view was? It had mine with
- 50:05Speaker 1: me either way? Cat tail right, it looks like a
- 50:08Speaker 1: cat's tail hanging off there. The reason that comes in
- 50:10Speaker 1: handy is the first thing you gotta do when they
- 50:12Speaker 1: say go, you gotta shoot three targets at a hundred yards.
- 50:16Speaker 1: They're like eight inch plates. It didn't steal. And then
- 50:20Speaker 1: you got also shoot a bunch of ship's super close.
- 50:23Speaker 1: So you might dial up to make the yard shot good,
- 50:28Speaker 1: but then you got to really quickly be ready for
- 50:30Speaker 1: like short shots. And so that saves you a lot
- 50:32Speaker 1: of fiddle farting around having that cat tail. It does,
- 50:35Speaker 1: but I imagine even for the hunting world, there could
- 50:38Speaker 1: be great application for having to do. But then it's
- 50:42Speaker 1: just like stuff to catch on stuff. And that's true.
- 50:45Speaker 1: But the ones that you have that that top half
- 50:48Speaker 1: the part that you grewp on two folds down. M
- 50:51Speaker 1: he didn't, like I said, he walked away with one.
- 50:55Speaker 1: But it is. It is interesting. There is a lot
- 50:57Speaker 1: of I think, things that could potentially go from the
- 50:59Speaker 1: competition and shooting world into the hunting world. Yeah. Oh
- 51:02Speaker 1: I was paying attention to that. I was like, I
- 51:03Speaker 1: was for technological you're taking notes. I think, just like
- 51:07Speaker 1: some of the mind frame stuff, you know, just like
- 51:11Speaker 1: staying calm under pressure. All that kind of stuff is
- 51:13Speaker 1: nople But you didn't. You didn't grow up shooting guns. No, No,
- 51:17Speaker 1: like almost the opposite, right in a way. I mean
- 51:20Speaker 1: because I grew up in Houston. It's a huge city.
- 51:23Speaker 1: And even though it's in Texas, like it's not not
- 51:26Speaker 1: everyone in Texas has like a gun person. Your parents
- 51:29Speaker 1: like gunfriendly people. Oh, they were fine with it. I
- 51:32Speaker 1: mean if you live in Texas, even if you are
- 51:35Speaker 1: in Austin, which is the most liberal city in Texas,
- 51:37Speaker 1: there's an assumption that firearms are still okay. Um, like
- 51:41Speaker 1: we're in New England. If you go to some of
- 51:43Speaker 1: the states there, like like especially Massachusetts, you start talking
- 51:47Speaker 1: about guns like people will have you know, act like
- 51:50Speaker 1: you have three heads. It's like a general kind of naughtiness. Yeah,
- 51:53Speaker 1: you feel it's like a taboo, which is absolutely terrible.
- 51:56Speaker 1: But I did not grow up with firearms. Um, like
- 51:59Speaker 1: you grew up like no guns in the house, no
- 52:01Speaker 1: guns in the house at all. Yeah, and moving to
- 52:05Speaker 1: New Hampshire that normal or not? Do more? I bet
- 52:08Speaker 1: more American households don't than do. I grew up in
- 52:11Speaker 1: New York City going to the house plenty I was.
- 52:16Speaker 1: I did not say anything to anybody ever. Yeah. Yeah,
- 52:19Speaker 1: definitely taboo there hidden on my parents bed. No rights.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Oh my god, I'll talk about that. Um. Were you
- 52:29Speaker 1: asking if it's common for people not to grow up
- 52:31Speaker 1: with firearms too? No, I was just wondering, like the
- 52:34Speaker 1: split took up, it's changing now new fire and purchases
- 52:40Speaker 1: are people who didn't have guns before, so that it's
- 52:42Speaker 1: definitely changing. Yeah yeah, so whatever that that number was,
- 52:46Speaker 1: it's it's different now. Yeah. Yeah. But I mean, my
- 52:49Speaker 1: so my stupdad used to hunt when we moved to
- 52:51Speaker 1: New Hampshire. It was because my you know, my mom
- 52:53Speaker 1: and my stepdad got married. Um, but his version of
- 52:56Speaker 1: hunting was like he would take his like muzzle loader
- 52:59Speaker 1: and walk around in the woods it was like a stroll,
- 53:01Speaker 1: like a leisurely stroll. He got a deal I think
- 53:03Speaker 1: like fifteen plus years ago once, Um, I'm so sorry.
- 53:07Speaker 1: That was his groove, like take a most sneak around
- 53:12Speaker 1: in snowy woods. Yeah, but he never shared that. That
- 53:15Speaker 1: was never a part of anything. No, no, I was
- 53:18Speaker 1: never a part of any of them. Actively not invite
- 53:21Speaker 1: you or just he would just disappear in the morning.
- 53:23Speaker 1: I mean he would wake up earlier and he was gone,
- 53:25Speaker 1: and then he was catching a moment. He would show
- 53:27Speaker 1: back up. Yeah, he was having his moment. So I
- 53:29Speaker 1: mean whatever, and no hard feelings because I you know,
- 53:31Speaker 1: I used to race motocross. I had like my own
- 53:33Speaker 1: thing going on so well, so I actually you saw
- 53:38Speaker 1: tally Am. I raised four wheelers. So if I raised
- 53:39Speaker 1: a dirt bike, it would have been sandbagging on like
- 53:41Speaker 1: a seventy c C with a whole bunch of twelve
- 53:43Speaker 1: year olds. So with a four wheeler I could write
- 53:45Speaker 1: a four fifty and be with you know, normal adulton
- 53:49Speaker 1: aged people. You got into that in New Hampshire. Yeah, yeah,
- 53:53Speaker 1: Well because behind our house, which is in Dumbarton, New Hampshire,
- 53:57Speaker 1: it's all conservation land. It's called Clough State Park and
- 54:00Speaker 1: Club State Park is a huge a TV trail system
- 54:04Speaker 1: and so I got into it from there. So I
- 54:05Speaker 1: would ride my quad right from uh right from my
- 54:09Speaker 1: mom's house into the state park. So are you like
- 54:12Speaker 1: when you were growing up so you did that competitively? Yeah?
- 54:15Speaker 1: Are you sort of in your head like if you're
- 54:17Speaker 1: gonna do something, it just turns into competition. Are you
- 54:20Speaker 1: getting this sense? So when I used to do before
- 54:24Speaker 1: leaving Houston, kickboxing was big. So I had actually like
- 54:28Speaker 1: to have like a winner, you have to Yeah, well,
- 54:34Speaker 1: so kickboxing I actually qualified for the Junior Olympics. Uh yeah,
- 54:38Speaker 1: but we couldn't uh we couldn't afford it because the
- 54:42Speaker 1: Olympic trials were I think in Michigan or something like that,
- 54:44Speaker 1: and so I mean we couldn't afford to go. And
- 54:46Speaker 1: then my mom was like, and we're moving to New
- 54:48Speaker 1: Hampshire and there's no good dojos up there. I mean,
- 54:50Speaker 1: I'm sure that there. Maybe it was, but not to
- 54:52Speaker 1: the caliber that I was used to before we had
- 54:55Speaker 1: a We had a guy we worked with for a
- 54:56Speaker 1: while and he was he was a skier and was
- 54:59Speaker 1: wanting to be competit of and we're talking about Olympic
- 55:02Speaker 1: skiing and all that, and he was saying something interesting
- 55:04Speaker 1: that there's a point at which your ability to like
- 55:10Speaker 1: as a young skier, there's a point at which your
- 55:12Speaker 1: ability to be competitive is tied to the economics of
- 55:16Speaker 1: your family. Because he's like, rich kids, they ski six
- 55:21Speaker 1: months of the year in North America, and then they
- 55:23Speaker 1: spend six months a year in New Zealand. And he's like,
- 55:25Speaker 1: you're not going to catch those kids skiing six months
- 55:28Speaker 1: a year. It's just it's just like there's a there's
- 55:31Speaker 1: a major function of just like can you afford to
- 55:34Speaker 1: be good? Which is kind of disheartening. It is, it
- 55:37Speaker 1: is um but I think that if those those people
- 55:40Speaker 1: who are naturally talented, even if they come from bad
- 55:43Speaker 1: economic backgrounds, if they have the gumption to market themselves appropriately,
- 55:49Speaker 1: they could yield that economic benefits. I'm so sorry, I
- 55:57Speaker 1: just got an image of all these cowboy shooters and
- 55:59Speaker 1: Steve just being I use sassy people. Uh but yeah,
- 56:04Speaker 1: I mean, and again I don't see. So this is
- 56:06Speaker 1: what happens when you shoot three gear. You come home
- 56:08Speaker 1: with a whole bunch of random ammo like in your pockets.
- 56:11Speaker 1: That's why. Yeah, that's why you travel the country living
- 56:16Speaker 1: in a camper. I don't deal with t s A. Well,
- 56:20Speaker 1: I still deal with t s A because I do
- 56:21Speaker 1: still fly. But so I'm actually I'm coming out with
- 56:25Speaker 1: a piece. Um, I'm not sure when it's publishing about
- 56:28Speaker 1: driving and traveling across country with fire and tell people
- 56:30Speaker 1: where you right for so, I write for guns dot Com.
- 56:33Speaker 1: I cover all their competition related content, and I do
- 56:35Speaker 1: kind of other fun stuff as well, whether if it's
- 56:38Speaker 1: reviewing firearms or talking about again when it's like traveling
- 56:42Speaker 1: across country with firearms constructional how to Yeah, yeah, and
- 56:47Speaker 1: it's not as bad as as people think. You just
- 56:49Speaker 1: have to be smart, you know, block your guns um
- 56:53Speaker 1: in a separate compartment, so if you're in a car,
- 56:55Speaker 1: it's in your trunk. If you're in an SUV, just
- 56:56Speaker 1: keep it out of reach, right, And then I have
- 56:59Speaker 1: your AMMO in a separate compartment that's also locked. Don't
- 57:02Speaker 1: have any magazines preloaded. Every state is different some states.
- 57:05Speaker 1: All that stuff is fine, but you're given the recipe
- 57:07Speaker 1: to how to be just cool going from state to
- 57:09Speaker 1: state to state to go anywhere. Yeah, that's the recipe
- 57:11Speaker 1: for for anywhere and other than that. Um, I always
- 57:15Speaker 1: keep a copy of PAPA and uh the glob box
- 57:18Speaker 1: of my car. So Farms Owners Protection Act. So that
- 57:22Speaker 1: is the law, um that protects you from going from
- 57:25Speaker 1: one state to the other. So if you are illegal, point,
- 57:27Speaker 1: because you might be in a situation where you need
- 57:29Speaker 1: to explain it to somebody. Well, so let's say we're
- 57:31Speaker 1: leaving New Hampshire and I came down south. Um so
- 57:36Speaker 1: New York, New Jersey, all Massachusetts, all those states. Everything
- 57:42Speaker 1: I own is illegal in those states. But I'm protected
- 57:44Speaker 1: by FOPA to drive through those states. And you could
- 57:47Speaker 1: stop for gas and stuff like that, right, but you're
- 57:50Speaker 1: you're good, You're good to go. I could drive through
- 57:52Speaker 1: all of those states perfectly fine because of POPA. So
- 57:54Speaker 1: I keep that documentation. UM, And I mean I love
- 57:58Speaker 1: law enforcement, so won't say anything that's interesting about FOUS.
- 58:01Speaker 1: So like I I don't know that I know, I
- 58:04Speaker 1: know of the thing, but I never heard that acronym.
- 58:07Speaker 1: But um, you can drive through. But I remember hearing
- 58:12Speaker 1: that people get in trouble because you can, like somehow
- 58:19Speaker 1: you could be It doesn't count if you go into
- 58:22Speaker 1: New York and then fly out of a New York
- 58:24Speaker 1: Airport because I was tiring these law enforcement guys are saying,
- 58:27Speaker 1: they're always people are always getting in trouble coming down
- 58:30Speaker 1: from Pennsylvania, coming down to places flying out of JFK Leguardia,
- 58:34Speaker 1: and they can like travel through legally, but they go
- 58:38Speaker 1: to like there, but now they're in there in the city,
- 58:42Speaker 1: and so they're they're in what's like gathered up by
- 58:45Speaker 1: the city of the port authority. So then there you
- 58:48Speaker 1: are with a gun checking on an airplane and you
- 58:51Speaker 1: don't have the necessary permit to have a gun in
- 58:55Speaker 1: the city somehow in their view, And I don't know
- 58:58Speaker 1: if this just it needs to be challenged. I noticed,
- 59:00Speaker 1: like I know that it's an issue. I don't know
- 59:01Speaker 1: if it's constitutional or legal, but in their view, you
- 59:06Speaker 1: had stepped out of those protections at that moment that
- 59:10Speaker 1: you went to check it onto a plane. Sure I
- 59:12Speaker 1: would have to reasearch. I never under like, I never
- 59:14Speaker 1: got into it enough to understand like how that's true.
- 59:16Speaker 1: But it's like you could drive past the airport, but
- 59:19Speaker 1: the minute you go to check that gun in that thing,
- 59:22Speaker 1: it's like not your it's out of your car. To
- 59:27Speaker 1: I don't know how they viewed it, but it would
- 59:28Speaker 1: be that. But their thing was and it was always
- 59:31Speaker 1: people being like but I thought like, no, dude, because
- 59:33Speaker 1: you're standing here right now checking this gun in it's
- 59:35Speaker 1: not the same thing as you traveling through with it
- 59:38Speaker 1: in your car. I would still I would personally question that. Now,
- 59:42Speaker 1: So FOLKA does specify interstate travel. It doesn't stay like
- 59:48Speaker 1: like when I I'm sorry, maybe that's my accent. Interstate
- 59:52Speaker 1: like as in the highway. It does specify that, so
- 59:55Speaker 1: maybe it does get different like you took it out,
- 59:57Speaker 1: you got it out of your car and your you
- 59:58Speaker 1: know whatever. Again, I I would question it. And there's
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: so much more that we could dig into this. So,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: for instance, I flew out of California recently. Um So
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: in California, most of my farms are illegal, right, but
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: I'm there for competition reasons. So there is a actual
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: um I forget what they call it, not not a law,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: but you know there's a provision that if you're there
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: for competition reasons and you're good, and so I could
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: fly competition in California. Yeah, I know. I was very skeptical,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: but a thousand percent. So so they have like again,
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: you know, whether if it's considered a law or bill
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: or whatever. We're if you're there for competition reasons, you
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: could have those firearms that people generally have thought we're
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: not legal in California. So I flew out of California
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: recently with all my guns. But for anyone who's flying,
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: I recommend you just to take everything apart because no
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: one at the airline understands anything of what you're carrying
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: on you. I mean they really they have no clue.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: So just take everything apart, make sure it's safe, and
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: for the most part, you're not gonna get questions. I'll
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: point out to people because I don't want this stuff
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: to be I don't want this stuff to then discourage
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: people from doing what they want to do. And like
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: they're like get overwhelmed by the complexity law. There are
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: a ton of resources online to hop you navigate, like
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: to help you stand on the right side of the law.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: It's like it sounds like intimidating and complicated, but in practice, um,
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: in practice, when you're generally going from somewhere to somewhere,
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: like you're going to Canada or whatever, it seems intimidating,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: But when you go and do it, it winds up
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: being fine. It's easy to find the resources you need.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: You know, it's not like people waiting at every corner
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: and be like, got you, you know, you screwed this up.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: But just it does doesn't have that feel to it exactly.
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: And of course, right there's a disclosure that it's up
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: to people to do their own research to make sure
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: that they are doing the legal thing right, don't use
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: the podcast as your guidance for this is what I
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: should do. So anyways, do your research. But at the
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: end of the day, it's actually really easy. Um and
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: for the most part, you know, law enforcement or anyone
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: you might run into, to be honest, most of them
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: have no idea what they're looking at. There. There's some
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: out there who are super super educated, and a lot
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: of them even compete, but for the most part, they
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: don't know what they're looking at. And you're probably more
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: educated about it than there. But that's that's like a
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: funny little Yeah, I want to get back to bio,
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: but like a funny little trade. You need to go
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: throughout some airports as they want to inspect it. Oh
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: and you open it up like they're not even pretending
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: to know. But they're like they know that they're like
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: the air the person checking you in knows that they're
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: supposed to like inspect it, but they also know that
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: they're not going to bullshit themselves, like they don't know
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: if they're looking at so like you open it, they
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: look down and like, sure you're closing back up because like, hell,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: I'm looking for They have no idea, and it's like
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: because they want to feel like they're doing the right thing.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: I think I think that appears to be a gun
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: up that they do. They just look at it and
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: they're kind of like a dead snake. It's like no.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: And sometimes when they want you to show clear, it's like, okay, well,
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: what position where do you want me to point this
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: to show you that my fire is unloaded because you're
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: in the middle of it. And but normally when you
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: um normally when you do that, they're just kind of like, oh, um, no, no,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: it's fine. But I've known some competition shooters will they'll
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: take their a R right out and remember that charging
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: hill and they go just go whack a whack, a
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: whack whack in the middle of the air plant, just
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: be like, yeah, it's clear. Well, I think That's why
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: most people that do have to do that are very like, yeah,
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: you open it, like hey, looks, looks get at me.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Let's not get the gun out and play with it.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: Let's just put it back in the little box that
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: kills me. Okay, So not many guns growing up. Then
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: all of a sudden you're like, I only get me
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: a gun. Well so almost. Yeah, So m I had
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: gotten out of long term relationship my high school sweetheart.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: Uh three, um, I mean you just it's when you're
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: dating someone from sixteen to your early twenties. Just agen
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: you just met in high school. Well technically he was
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: homeschooled and I wasn't, but I alwa say high school
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: sweetheart because it's easier for people to Actually it was
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: like at a party, you know. It was just like
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: the party. A lot of people home school to kids.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: They don't wan him to party. It was a lot
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: of people party home school. It's big part of homeschool
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: not this is not universal. It's a big part of
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: homeschooling is they don't want their kids to find out
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: about They don't want to find out about dirty er.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: They don't want them to party, they don't want them
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: to like know about certain things. It's kind of a
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: way to be like, I want my kid to just
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: know about what I tell them, Steve, what other socializing
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: would they get if they didn't go to parties or
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: not school to other kids all day? You know what
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: I mean. Yeah, it's just it's like a way to
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: control what goes into their little brain. Yeah. Well yeah,
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: I mean his parents did for different reasons, just because
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: they didn't feel that the public school system was doing,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: you know, the best education. But that's, you know what
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: I'm speaking just a segment of that world. So when
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: you say, like I was pard parting with the homeschoolers,
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: it just seems funny to me. I think we should
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: maybe name this episode party with Homeschoolers or running with guns.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: I don't candid running with party with homeschoolers. So there
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: you are, your partying with a home schooler at sixteen. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: and drink um. No, I don't think so, actually yeah,
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: I don't know. So he's like, no, I'm cool, and
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: you met him, started dating? Yeah, we started dating, and
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: then it's like any relationship when you're in your early twenties,
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: where you know there's just immaturity right there. There's jealousy,
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: there's immaturity. You're not mature as a person. They're not
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: mature as a person, and you you grow out of it.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: So I had gotten out of that relationship, and I
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: remember it was like, heck to find a place for
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: me to live by myself. I guys are living together. Well, yeah,
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: I was twenty three. I'm not gonna be at my
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: mom's with my boyfriend. Yeah, but you did so, so, um,
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: you're not married now, okay, yeah, so I'm sorry if
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: I'm not within the traditionalist. I'm always curious about whether
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: people are married or not. Yeah. So you guys split up,
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: couldn't find a place, Yeah, And I end up finding
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: one place I fell in love with in Salisbury, New Hampshire.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: So Salisbury, New Hampshire has no police department. And so
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: now living by myself for the first time it's a
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: single female, I'm like, Okay, Well, if something happens, I'll
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: dine down nine one one in the closest state. Troopero
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: show up whenever he can, and I don't know when
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: that's going to be tomorrow morning, tomorrow morning, that way,
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: tomorrow pretty much. And that's when I looked into buy
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: my first firearm. And uh so in high school, Um,
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: I actually I used to wrestle again with the fighting background. Um,
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: and one of my assistant coaches I knew he used
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: to do competition shooting. I reached out to him, Chris
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: Mullin's his name. He's a sweethel to be like, hey,
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: if you were going to buy a gun, what would
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: you What would I do? Because I didn't know what
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: to do. I mean, like I said, my stepdad was
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: just not, you know, like a gun person. He hunts
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: once in a while. And so I reached out to
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: him and he was just like, hey, um, you know,
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: I have a couple of firearms. So it is a
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: glock seventeen and a bread and ninety two f s.
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: You could try him out. And then I actually work
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: at a gun shop, so if you want to buy
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: one after, I could sell you one. So I was like, great,
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: who worked at a gun shop. My friend Daniel, you
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: called my friend the trainer, ye who also like to shoot? Yes? Yeah, yeah,
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: So it worked out. So it worked out really great.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: And that's that's when I bought my first fire which
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: was a glock seventeen. Um. And actually, so I had
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: a like a false start. Before that, I went into
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: a gun shop and I told him I wanted something
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: for self defense. And I'm sure there's if there's any
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: woman listening to this podcast who've tried to buy a
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: gun for the first time, maybe they could relate. UM.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: I said, I wanted self defense and target practice. Uh.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: And self defense what I mean by that is home defense,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: not concealed carry, but just home defense. Um. At the time,
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: I couldn't imagine myself concealed caring. And so they showed
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: me a sig mosquito. If you know what saying mosquito is,
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: It's like his name implies smallness and implies and it
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: was pink, and I a bore color pink, and I
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: just felt so insulted by the guy. I like a
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: little my daughter has one of these, and I love it.
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: And I'm like, oh my god, like do you what?
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: Did you not hear what I just told you? I
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: want something for home defense and har your practice, and
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: you're showing me this little three eight whatever. So I
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: got the glock seventeen UM shot with that for a
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: little while and actually really started enjoying it. So I
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: used to go to the firing line by myself and
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: just practice. Um, and I thought again, it was just
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: it was different when you go to an indoor public
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: fire in line the people who go there, as opposed
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: to when I joined a club I got club. It's
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: a super different minds. Did you get like hit on
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: by guys just NonStop if you went down by yourself
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: to shoot a pistol at a gun club, They're like,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: she's here, look, she must be here looking for a man. Now. Well,
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: I think I had a serious enough attitude where I
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: kind of thwarted a lot of people. Um. I sometimes
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: I feel like I'm not too Yeah, like I put
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: on my game face like I'm not there, you know
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: what I mean with a V cut shirts, so it's
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: catching all your hot brass or heels or any of that.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: Because there's definitely women that I've seen at the firing
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: line where I'm like hot brass. Keep that in mind, Crane,
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: if we don't go with don't part these two scars.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: That's hot brass from from the A R. And actually
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: this this too, that's hot brass. Yeah. So when you
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: when you shoot off of a barrier, sometimes what will
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: happen is it will hit that wall. It don't come
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: back and I'll get you. And so little scars on
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: your shoulder from hot breast, yeah, oh that's yeah. When
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: there's all sorts of other stuff, yeah, that it injures you.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: But the point being is, uh no, but that when
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: you were down there at the shooting range. Initially you
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: were just like, I'm just gonna learn how to use
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: this thing. Yeah, that was it. And then you kind
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: of got like, I want to be better and better.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: So because I had to compete and I'm super competitive, well,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: I wasn't. Well, I guess it was eventually evolve to
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: that right right, you can see right away where this
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: is going. That wasn't my That wasn't my thought though,
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: So what had actually happened? So I started aiding someone
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: new um, and he was like, hey, I have a
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: clay thrower. You want to try shooting a shotgun? And
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: I said sure, yeah whatever. So we shot it, you know,
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: throwing clays in the backyard and he's like, wow, you're
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: like way better than my buddy that I took out
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: last weekend, Like way better. And I'm like really, like,
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: I don't know, you just aim it and shoot things
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: like I don't know if the problem is and so
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: about six months after that, again I got more into
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: my handgun practice, and he was like, well, I've enrolled
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: you in your first sporting clay competition. And I was
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: like what and he's like, yeah, I think you could
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: do it. I'm like, okay, the competitions no, no, so talent. Yeah,
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: And so he put me in that, and so I
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: stuck with sporting plays for a few years. And so
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: I would say about a year after sporting plays because
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: again I really enjoyed my handgun um. And then you know,
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: as any well, what's that world like the sporting clay
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: world in terms of like the competitions and stuff. Oh
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: it's so different. Um, so I I love sporting clays
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: like it's more more genteel Oh yeah, I mean, but
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: the thing is that being a younger woman going into
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: sporting plays, Oh, I got all the special treatment, like
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: you know, oh, you want to use my fancy side
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: by side to go to the indoor bathroom as opposed
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: to using the power to body. Oh yeah, I go
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: take it, Like I don't even know who this person is,
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: Like I used to happen all the time, or I
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: like I would either hand carry my guns or when
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: I got more gear, I got like a little buggy.
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: They'd be like, oh no, you you could put your
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: gun in my cart and stuff, so that you mean,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: it's like guys scamming on you or guys like being
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: like little ladies. These are the like little ladies like
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: it's these are the people in your squads, like group
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: of people that you shoot with because they just want
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: to help you out. They do the same thing for
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: junior shooters. So it's like it's more of a pity play. No,
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: it's not pitty. It's like they it's gentlemanly and they
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: want to It's the equivalent of like opening the door exactly. Yeah.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: But the other thing too is that they want to
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: encourage more women into the sport, and they would encourage
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: youth into the sport, so anyway that they could kind
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: of sort of take care of them. Did you feel
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: it was there was over encouraging. No, because when it
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: came down to shooting, I mean, yeah, we meant business
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: just because they were nice, like you know now and
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: then didn't mean that. I didn't think that they meant
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: business otherwise, And is in the three Gune world, it doesn't.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: It's very different. It's not there's no it's I could
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: picture just from the crew were to day. I could
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: picture that they would be maybe better able to play
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: equality h but probably don't do the chivalry. Okay, So
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: sporting place, uh is a fun sport. It tends to
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: be a little bit older of a demographic, if you will.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: And I'm just generalizing, Okay, so people out there listening,
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: there's not that like more in a good generalization, a
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: way to ruffle people's feathers. Like generalizations are sometimes like
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: a little bit right, I get the complexes, but now
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: that's the thing. I mean, it's like now they're like
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: like lay it on me, like I could picture all
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: the ways that these things are. Like it's more laid back, right.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: And so people they have it's very typical for them
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: to have their cards and they're smoking their you know,
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: cigar leisurely. Uh No, I'm talking like the three thousand
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: side by side like the razors. Oh, these guys are
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: high rollers. Yeah, And I mean but you have to
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: keep in mind with sporting plays, they could have uh
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: you know like paraz Is that costs like twenty plus
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: dollars that one gun. Right, so there's big money into
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: it and they make big money. So three gunners, we
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: don't get paid anything for winning competition. Sporting clay people
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: they do. Uh so yeah, because that's even like that's
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: there's you know, do do do any colleges have three
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: gun teams? Yet there's colleges that have sporting play teams? Yeah? No,
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: you're right, and uh And to be honest, I don't
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: know if any, but but maybe I'd be pretty surprised. Yeah.
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: So there are colleges that have action shooting teams, which
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: is generalized so they'll shoot us p s A, which
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: is action pistol shooting. So there are colleges with that. Yeah,
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: for sure. Um, we're three guns. We are. I don't
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: know how to explain it. I like to think we're
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: more of a fun crowd. Uh, but yeah, I mean
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: the chivalries, they're like, if you are a gentleman, you're
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: going to be a gentleman no matter what. And I
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: think that shooting sports tend to attract men who who
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: like to be chivalrous. Right, But at the same time
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: they are going to little lady you, They're going to
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: assume that you know, at the end of the day,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: we're competitors, right, So you're a guy. I'm a girl, like, yeah, sure,
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: hold the door open for me, but I'm gonna try
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: to I'm going to try to beat you, you know,
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: and they recognize that. But it's also a team sport
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: to like remember when we were stage planning, we were
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: trying to we we feed off of each other. So
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: it's very supportive. It's a very supportive community. How many
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: women do you encounter in this community? Um? So my
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: social media handle is an h three gun Girl. I
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: am the only girl in New Hampshire that shoots three
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: gun there. Now, there are some I know I've been
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: I've been told that I should add the in front
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: of it, but there are some other women in New
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: England who have picked it up, which is great. Since
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: I started shooting in Florida, that's pretty common. Um, it's
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: popular in Florida. Yeah, down south definitely Florida. In Texas,
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: those are two huge ones. Um, I'm going to stay
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: top of my mind in Florida, Texas. There's there's all
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: sorts of other ones, right, Um, Like we just had
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: the pro am in North Carolina or South Carolina, one
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: of the Carolinas. I should know because I was signed
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: up for that match. But anyways, um we're able to
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: make it. No, no, no, no. Um, so there's that,
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: and they're they're everywhere, They're everywhere. But like percentage in
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: percentage wise, oh gosh. Um. I to be honest, I
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: don't want to be held to a percentage or but
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: if I had to generalize, it's going to be low. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: so I would say less than less than ten percent
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: and I would say so again, but it's sporting plays more.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: Uh was sporting craze greater female participant maybe slightly, But
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: again I don't know what other areas of the country
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: are like. In New England, there was not a lot
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: of women in general. Um it was. It was common
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: for me to be the only female in a sporting
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: play competition. Um so, and you compete against dudes though,
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: well of course yeah, because it's like it does not
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: have to support like a female division, right, yeah exactly.
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: And you start with that sporting clay business for how
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: many years? A few years? Yeah, a few years. But
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: I still like to shoot the pistol. Well, so I
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: had started researching three guys I think year two into it,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: but I spent how many years ago that were so
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: how many years ago from today, years ago from Jay
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: when I was in supporting play, so it would have
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: been two thousand fifteen ish. Um. And so I started
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: researching three gun and it's like awesome. I started watching
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: YouTube and I'm like, holy smokes, I need to do this.
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: But there's a lot of gear involved. So it took
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: me about a year plus to save up all the
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: gear to to shoot three guns. I mean, and I
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: always tell people, if you want to shoot three gun,
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: show up to a match and people will lend you
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: their gear. I'm not making this up. You could be
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: anywhere in the country and we will take care of you,
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: period the end. Email the match director, but beforehand, tell
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: them what you have and what you need and we
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: will put it together. I'm serious. Anywhere in the country
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: when a time that a long time to assemble the
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: gear was like, you mean saving up the money to
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: buy it all. Well, that belt that you were talking
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: about earlier, you described it as a tool belt. I've
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: done some math on that. When it comes to the
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: belt system itself, and every single mag pouch and the
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: holsters without AMMO is close to four right, because you
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: think every belt grow thing, well, because you have all
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: those mag pouches and each one might be forty dollars, right,
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: and then your handgun holsters sixty dollars. Then you need
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: the e l S attachments that go onto it. This
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: is Safari Land for those of you who are listening,
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about. And then that costs money,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: and it just starts just as very quickly, very quickly.
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: And it's all modular too, which is one thing you're pinning.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: You can just swap out different sizes of holsters and yeah,
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: you can get into it. So the shell caddy that
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: I use, I'm sorry, I'm going back to eleven. No,
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: I want I want to go to a nine on
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: this belt real quick. I don't want I don't want
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: to derail. I want to go to a nine on
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: the belt. The belts just like a thing in the
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: world because it's like it's hook and loop velcrow and
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: you run the fuzzy there's a belt with the fuzzy part,
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: and you run the fuzzy part the underbelt through your
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: normal belt loops and then you've got like a fuzzy
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: belt on. Then the belt that holds all the accouterments,
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: uh is the hook. The hook portion of the hook
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: and loop velcro that goes on over I feel like
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: people in the trades should have one of those, dude,
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: for everything, Right, it's so much more like I don't
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: know how Like if if I was framing houses, I'd
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: be right now going out and being like, I've switched
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: my whole belt situation. I'm getting me a s fir
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: lamb belt and hammer, couple nail pouches and shipped on
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: that set up. Man spending your whole day trying to
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: pull your pants up smart, that's true. Well, so it's
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: it's very similar to a law enforcement felt because it's
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: so rigid. It's so rigid, and when you have that
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: inner belt system that is really tucking it close to
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: your body, and then you have what we call the
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: outer belt, which is what you're talking about that has
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: all of our attachments on it. That is such a
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: rigid system because there's so much weight. I mean, when
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: you think about it and you felt it, I know
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: you felt it. I saw I saw it like that
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: twinkle in your eye. Because when I first started shooting
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: the legion, which is a tungsten infused uh SIG three twenty, right,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: it's a heavy it's a heavy gun. Um, you fill
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: it on your hip after a while, because especially with women,
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: were just the way your hips are shaped and the
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: way that belt sits on you, it just like it
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: starts to bruise after a while. I don't know. I
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: don't know what happens, but your body just gets used
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: to all that weight. I don't know. But when I
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: first started shooting, even just having a Block seventeen, which
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: is just a light polymer gun, I was like, oh man,
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: that this hurts. And now I'm like, I don't even
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: feel it. You know, when did you shoot the first tournament?
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: That was in two thousand sixteen. But how do you
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: go from like not oh Steve, you don't even You
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: just find out about something, get the ship and go.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: You don't like spend like years like getting ready to compete.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: Let's go over a quick story. So Taylor's first shooting season.
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: This is me. I'm talking to the third person. Sorry,
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: it was in two thousand seventeen, my first competition, uh
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: like full season two thousand seventeen. By the end of
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: two thousand seventeen, I started and have now ran for
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: four years the biggest three gun match in New England.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: So I went from being a person who just started
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: shooting three gun too, putting together and running a full
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: fledged match by the end of the season. Enthusiasm. Do
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: you feel like you have? Um? Do you kind of
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: have Do you feel like you have like a mild
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: form of what's the word I'm looking for? Not you're
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: like like, like, are you obsessive about stuff? Like I'm
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: not like a like a savant? Or do you? But
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: do you feel that you get obsessed with something and
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: then like it runs its course and then you wham
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: jump into something else. It depends like if I talked
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: to you in five years, are you could be like,
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: oh no, I'm a competitive sailor and then you'll be
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: like good a sailing and something. And some would be
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: like you used to shoot three guns to that have
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: no idea, But I'm shooting three guns competitive two years ago.
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know what my cycle is going
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: to be. You know, maybe give you way into something
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: different in a couple of years. I don't think so.
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: I don't think so. So. My my evolution of sports,
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: each each one minute end for his own reason. The
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: thing that I love. It's not just that you drifted away.
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: It's not that I drifted away. No not, I moved
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: to New Hampshire. They had no good dojos. What ended shooting? Shotguns?
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: Well that was three gun. I got in a three
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: gun because I was like, man, that's not a natural end,
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: that's just you that involved. It's it's still competitive shooting.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: You know, it's still competitive shooting. So you don't think
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: that you'll I mean in two or three years, you
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: don't think you'll be into some whole new thing. But
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: like way as in competitive shooting. Absolutely, maybe I'll get
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: into PRS or maybe I'll get into something else. Three
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: guns holds really close to my heart. Um, precision rifles shooting. Um.
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: I think that a lot more of this audience will
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: probably know about PRS more than three guns. It's easier
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: when someone says precision rifles kind of like yeah, I
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: got it rifle. Yeah, No, it's actually it's it's a
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: ton of fun. And I think that if you're a hunter,
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: you should do a PRS match just to stay start
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: sharp on your skills. Not saying that three gun isn't transferable,
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: but PRS is directly transferable to hunting for sure. It's awesome.
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: Here's here's a here's a question for you, But I
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: don't know. I'm trying to think how to frame it.
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: I think it's safe to say that clay shooting is
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: a like is a derivative sort of of of hunting
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: of Wayne shooting. Of course, I think that they feed
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: each other, right, Like especially some people to like to
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: shoot quail, like guys that are like a way into
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: two things that are very like you know, heavy shooting,
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: like a lot like a lot of opportunities. Um, you
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: go out for quail, you go out for dove like those.
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: There's a lot of crossover between quail and dove hunters
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: in sporting class. But like three guns very strikes me
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: is like very military, okay, but you don't have any
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: like you're not out of law enforcement. You're not out
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: of military, are you like an exception? And that you
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: didn't come from military law enforcement? Not at all. Most
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: people who do three guns do not have a military background.
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: Picture if it wasn't if the War on Terror, if
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: there hadn't been the War on Terror, I feel like
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: three guns wouldn't exist. But that's wow, really yeah, because
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: I feel like I just feel like it's super well no,
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: I just think it's super informed. By it's like very
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: informed by UM, like moving through targets, Like yeah, I
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: thought it was four in the podcast. Like years ago,
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: I was invited down by the third Special Forces Group
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: and I got to go down to Fort Bragg and
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: watch him train and UM doing different activities. And one
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: day when when I was there watching them train, they
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: were training like they were training transitioning from their rifle
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: to their pistol, and it was like on the move
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: going through with targets, and it was all about like
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: how smoothly you can move back forth back forth. And
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: they're also doing a lot of stuff of like going
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: into houses and like how to clear houses, move through houses,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: and it's like that like a lot of the like
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: a lot of the movements and stuff seemed to inform it.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: It's way different, but I feel like it's like heavily
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: informed by it. It's not informed by it at all.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: If anything, I believe that competition shooting has been influencing military.
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: Well that's what that's what I was learning today. Different
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: things like you guys have a little gear twitch like
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: gear fixes and strategies that flowed the other direction, which
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: is surprising. Yeah, but you did say though that like
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: it started basically because training, oh for sure, and it
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: but I feel that it branched off very quickly. Um.
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: And that you again, military we I have a lot
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: of good friends who are UM active in the military.
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: They are current law enforce, mint officers of every facet
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: right anywhere from you know, swat to a beat cop.
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: They'll come out and compete. But that's the minority. That
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: might be one or two or a few guys at
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: a competition out of like people, right um. And at
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: a national level competition, you know, we're going to see
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: a lot more of those guys come out. But overall,
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: because what I love is at a national level competition
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: or one of these bigger three gun matches you have.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: So the Marines they have a shooting team, right, and
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: then they have a three gun team. Same thing for
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: the Army, AMU, that is the biggest shooting team in
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: all the military branches. A mu uh some other one
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: of those military branches shooting team might be yelling at
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: me right now, but it's I think it's kind of known. Um.
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: You know, they have an incredible recruiting program with a
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: mu uh Dan Horner, who is one of the top
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: three gun shooters he came from a mu um you know,
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: uh Max Michelle, he was army as well, so that's
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: one of the top guys. But anyways, um, so there
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: are a lot of military branches. National Guard they have
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: a huge three gun shooting team. So there's a lot
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: of military branches that have these shooting teams. But is
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: it the majority? Absolutely not, absolutely not. There's an internet.
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: There's a couple of things that you guys pointed out
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: to me today. Is for instance, like things I had
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: heard but hadn't really heard him articulated. Well, like the
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: tendency to stand side like to like if you're shooting
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: a pistol. The tendency to turn your body so that
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: you're like parallel in the line with your target comes
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: from trying to like shrink your profile to a potential
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: shooter and they're like open up, like you're not, you're
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: not needing to do that. Or another thing with like
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: a military rifle hold in and like what you guys like,
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: there's a term someone used a close court um so
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: military plowing your arm, employing your arm to help as
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: a protection to your body, and that's not needed. So
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: there's like these ways in which you see like little
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: habits people have. I guess I'm watching the news or
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: watching movies and you start to like you think you
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: know how to hold stuff, and then the competitive shooters
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: being like no, no no, no, like you're doing like a
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: cop thing that we don't do, like it's it's better
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: this way, you know. Yes, And and I've taken a
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: lot of training classes before where you have uh ELO
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: law enforcement officers and there are things that we do
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: that may not be safe for them, like you know,
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: facing straight onto your target. We're not shooting from behind cover.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: There's all these different things that may not be safe
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: for them, but for us, we're thinking about time because
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: a good point, there's no like utilizing there's no utilizing cover.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: There is not. So there are different games for that.
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: And at the end of the day, these are these
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: are games are great training tools, but there are games
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: h called I d p A, and so I d
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: p A does their best to be as realistic as possible.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: I'm sorry you have my like little air quotes, air
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: quotes going um and that's the training people how to
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: like a roacha active shooters situation or then it's just
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: they give you this scenario. It's not even about active
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: shooters or anything like that. They give you this scenario
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: hypothetically where maybe there there is one, but they you know,
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: it's part of the game. They have to shoot from
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: behind cover, that kind of thing. But again, there's a
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: lot of different disciplines within shooting sports. All right, Yanni,
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: what do you got? What are your observations? Well, a
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: couple more questions about shooting in the competition and you're
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: you're shooting. So there's so few women that you guys
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: are just lumped into one division. So when the results
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: come out, it's not like you're always taking first place
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: in the women's division. You're just taking whatever place it
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: is in the division. Or yeah, and the one that
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: you entered. So where do you? Where do you? And
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: the and there's another galuy you mentioned earlier. Where do
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: you guys rank against thousands of men? And there's what
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: there's a handful of you hand I mean, so I
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: consider myself a midpack hero, which means that I typically
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: will finish you know, upper to midpack to lower to midpact,
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: depending on how good of that her day I've done, right,
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: So that that's where I typically place. I'm pack here
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: and now I'm talking overall. When it comes to women,
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: there's so little women that normally you know, I'm high
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: lady overall. That's not you know, because again there's there's that,
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: there's that many of us. So I'm always looking at
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: overall standings, um, in terms of where I complete in
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: that um. And what was the other question? Well, you're
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: saying that there was a like you mentioned Lena, I
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: think she's awesome. You're gonna like, has she ever just
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: straight out one beat beat the whole all the whole field? Um?
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: So I mean, gosh, she showed a shot any locals.
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, she'd cream absolutely everyone in terms of
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: And I'm so sorry, Lena, if you're listening to this,
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: I can't remember if she's one overall on national competition.
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: I think I believe she's come close. Um. So recently
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: she placed a third um in a I believe it
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: was an area match, third overall, which was very very respectful.
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: That was respectable, very respectable of her. No prize money. No,
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: we do all of this for bragging rights. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: it's it's crazy. You could you could get some sponsorships, um,
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: you know, you can work with some companies stuff like that,
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: but going pro was just you find a way within
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: the industry to make like to make it most most
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: anyone who is quote unquote pro um is they're just
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: working in an industry. That's it one faster than the other.
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: Well you got that little brainy, uh. I mean, do
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: we want to dive into how it was for us,
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: because I mean we we went. I mean was kind
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: of the meat of it all is that we went
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: and and had got trained by Taylor that which took
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: it probably take the better part of two hours, right
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: just just I'm like putting my my head down into
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: my hands deeply right now. Because they were like, hey,
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: we want to learn how to sheot three and I'm like, fantastic,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: this is more ours. This is this is a two
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: day class. Then I was under the impression it was
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: gonna be one day and I'm like, wow, um, how
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: am I going to do this all in one day?
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: And then Corin calls and says, actually, it's a half
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: a day, and I'm like, I at least now say
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: like what it is. I was losing my mind because
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: we rolled in there and are our normal you know,
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: operating procedures to roll in there and b asked with everybody.
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: And as soon as we rolled in, Taylor is like,
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: get over here, we're going safety. I'm like, oh, this
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: is serious, okay safe, And then it was like there's
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: a rifle or a pistol on our belt, on our thing,
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: and then the pistol on the belt and we were
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: on our way. No. I think you're a good teacher.
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: You don't mess around. You know, it's like a lot
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: of good information. But it's like you don't take time
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: to like, you don't you don't have like little can
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: jokes you do and ship like that. You just like
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: get into it. Man. Yeah, it was so much fun.
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: I'd recommend it'd be like great for us to get
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: our families together and go and that class. It's so
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: cool when kids get into three guns. I think I
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: think your wife would like it. She'd like it. Jimmy
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: is already asking about it. He was like, so he's
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: gonna get away, He's gonna he'd come away from there
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: with some many like bad ideas, so empty. When he
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: went from knowing about single shot shotguns the pumps, it
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: was just like a whole new thing. That world would
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: be would just be too much from it would be
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: it would be way too much for him. But so
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: interesting because I I did not know what to expect
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: with y'all in terms of skill level. And so obviously
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: you're good hunters, right, And but just because someone is
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: a good hunter doesn't mean that they're necessarily proficient with
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: their firearms. And you all would know this from firsthand,
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: for from meeting some people that you might have hunted
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: with who may not have the let's say, best marksmanship.
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: Does that make sense yea, just like the whole Yeah,
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: hunters in general and in general this is not to everyone. Um,
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: they like the point guns at each other, right, So
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: their concept of safety it is very very different. In
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: competition shooting safety is at the forefront of our minds
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: at all times, and we have so many different rules
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: to make sure we're being as safe as possible. Where
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: in the hunting world there's just very different perspective when
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: it comes to again safety and gun manipulation and efficiency
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: of movement, all these things. So I don't know what
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: to expect with y'all, unless I want to back Taylor up,
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: because right now you're at home and you're like, that's bullshit,
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: you know, I don't see that kind of stuff going down.
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: It's like I can tell you as a guide weekly.
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: If not daily, someone would be giving you the old
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: um tunnel vision as we called it, and it would
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: get to the point where you'd be like, dude, one
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: more time and I'm done. You can got someone else
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: can hunt with you. You can hunt by yourself, but like,
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: I don't want to look down your rifle barrel again,
- 1:34:59Speaker 1: do you unders damny? So yeah, you're you're spot on.
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: Like there's a lot, there's plenty of that that goes down.
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: It is. Yeah, we kept laughing about they make you
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: go wait the truck if you make a mistake, oh,
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: if you get d qte yeah. But but what's funny
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: there is there is an inside joke with you know,
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: especially action shooters, that if you get d cute, you
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: have to go to d Q and eat your ice
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: cream so you don't have to bring it back for
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: everybody else. That's what you're the one who got d Q.
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: You have to eat your ice cream ice cream for
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: everybody else. No, that's not how Yeah, so because the
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: ice cream is not it's like a bitter sweet, right.
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: And what's funny is that if we're stage planning, they'll
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: they'll be a moment where it's like I'm not going
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: to eat my ice cream. On this stage, it's just
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: like we instantly know what the other person is talking about.
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: You don't want to go to dairy queen, you don't
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: want to get d cute. Well, yeah, no, I mean
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: even the difference I got called I got, I would
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: of d Q just holstering my pistol at the very
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: end of my round. I think I had done everything
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: right round and when she asked me, um, when you're done,
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: they Taylor asked you. She was acting as the range officer,
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: and she asked you to clear the gun and show
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: that your hammers down, So you open the action and
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: then you close the action, and then you'll pull the
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: trigger to show that it's completely empty, right, and then
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: you holster. He right. Well, just the way that my
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: hips were facing, the angle that I was angled off
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: of that degree line that you can't pass, and then
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: I went to holster and just that action was enough
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: to basically get my gun pointed back behind me holstering it,
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: you know, and I was pointing it down at the ground,
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: but just that was enough to get it pointed. YEA.
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: I wish I would have happened on the second round,
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: because that would have meant I won. Oh I guess
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: if I d Q then yeah, if they would have
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: called a d Q, I would have been like the victor.
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: You would be the victor. Yeah, that's a terrible way
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: to win though, but you would have counted. It would
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: have counted because I meant that the other person. Um,
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: I feel like like you could almost the first time
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: you do it, Like the second time, you're gonna cut
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: your time in half. I feel like the third time
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: you're probably gonna cut it by a third. Then it's
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: probably then yeah, it's gonna start plateauing. So with you guys,
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: who is amazing watching you again? You know, we went
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: from the very beginning of the day working on pistol,
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: and so I typically like to start with pistol because
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: that gives you a really good calibration of how someone's
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: overall firearm skills are, because that tends to be one
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: of the hardest platforms to learn because there's so much
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: more like with the grip in the stance and how
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: you're looking down the site a rifle. I'm not saying
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: that there was a difficulty to it, but you pretty
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: much you hold it up and you look down the
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: scope and you pull the trigger and you're going to
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: go with the pistol. There's there's so much going into it.
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: So uh so you got named teacup because you were
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: doing that. The teacup and saucer h grip right, which
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: is sort of like old school FBI movie Charlie's Angels
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: type stuff, which is not something you don't think that
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: there's I wanted we ran out of time because I
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: wanted to explore this. I do think that there's like
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: some revolver there's like some holdover from when people shot
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: revolvers that your hand position, like the hand position you
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: people are using is an appropriate to a revolver. So
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: maybe some people that's the case. I think most of
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: it they're they're watching TV and they're seeing cop grips,
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: they're seeing Charlie's Angels, are seeing all these movies, like
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: cop movies like Stevens all these guys where they're just like,
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: you know, grabbing it for the bottom and it's like,
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: what are you doing? This makes no sense? Should explain.
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: So the teacup is like, if you're holding that pistol
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: in one hand, if you're a right hander then your
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: left hand. Yeah, it's like a little little teacup or
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: a saucer underneath it from the from the bottom, you
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: sort of supporting it from the bottom, where in reality
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: you almost make like a like two fists together with
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: the golf gripping a golf cloth. There you go. I
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: heard that analgy earlier today. So, uh, seeing you guys
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: go from from that all the way to actually transitioning
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: between targets targets, so shooting one target and shooting the
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: other one while on the move, while you know, walking
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: with with the handgun doing the same thing with the rifle,
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: so up close. Shooting up close with a rifle is
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: very different from precision shooting with a rifle. Um and
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: with the cadence because as hunters, y'all are making you know,
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: one super meaningful shot from a distance, where with this,
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: I mean we're doing at least two at a time
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: and you're you're just getting getting after it. You know, Uh,
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: things things get little spicy, and so when you're running
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: with that gun, it changes things for sure. It really
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: took me a while to be like, you don't have
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: to aim as much as you're trying to know. It's
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: like it's the like brown is down all the all
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: the targets happened to be brown that we shot today.
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: That we're paper. But that's a famous deer hunting line. Yeah,
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: I know that one. As soon as you're on paper,
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: you can just squeeze twice. And like you said, there
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: are different rings. But we weren't playing by those rules today.
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: You just said, hey, we just want two hits on paper.
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: So I didn't really tell myself that's that's why I
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: was going to come out with my own tournament and
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: shrink those targets way down so we could do that.
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: So today we shot what was called time plus, which
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: is how much time did it take for you to
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: run to the stage plus penalties. Right, so time plus scoring. Um,
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: if we did something along the lines of USPS a
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: multa gun um like comstock, then there would be a
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: points system depending upon the accuracy. Right, So so we
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: we could we could dig into this crazy stuff um comstock. Uh,
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: scoring with three guns is not normal, but it certainly happens,
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: right and it is perhaps so I could specialize into that. Right,
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: So if that meant a lot to me, I would
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: recommend for you to start shooting usps A matches because
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: that really will emphasize more more, more accuracy. Yeah for sure. Um,
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: but again, you know, it was so cool watching you
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: guys uh progress. And then when we ended on the
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: shotgun would showing the quad load because I'm like, I
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: save that kind of for last, because you know how
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: to shoot a shotgun right for the most part. If
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: if you've shot a shotgun before, you could go into
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: a three gun competition and kind of figure your way out.
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: It's just the reloading part. And then again startling around
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: to those quad loads you with your eyes light up
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: like saucers is so cool. There's another cool modification to
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: that shotgun is that the gosh I don't know what
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: you call that little part, but basically just when you're
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: looking down into the tube and you can just see
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: the brass end if you have a shell loaded in there,
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: right and if the guns upside down, the lip that
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: normally would just be perfectly around it is sort of
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: shaved and ramped so that as you're sliding those two
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: in there, your thumb doesn't catch and you don't have
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: to push it quite as far in there for it
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: to catch. That's a nice modification. Yes, So he's talking
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: about is the receiver. The actual receiver at the bottom
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: of the shotgun, where the lifter is, where the shells
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: going is opened up. So we called those milled receivers.
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: So some people go into the CNC machine, they'll actually
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: mill those outlets, have a program for it. And what
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: I did with my first shotgun is I took a
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: dreambal tool and I went to town and you'll find
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: that motion. Oh hell yeah. Most competitive shooters, we are.
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: And it's funny because I've ran into other people across
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: country who they teach classes, but they're not in the
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: competitive world, and so I'm shielded. I started. You just
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: heard my story. I started competitive shooting six months after
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: the first time I bought a gun. So I've almost
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: exclusively lived in the competitive shooting world. I'm not exposed
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: to the recreational shooter, uh per se, and so I'm
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: not made privy to those weird um ideas that they have.
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: And one of those ideas is that you can't modify
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: your firearm and have it still be safe. We're in
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: competitive shooting. We will take a Drumbell tool to our
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: gun at blink of an eye. I mean we we
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: will get right in there and open everything up and
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: make it way better. Oh yeah, without having that like
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: well it's grandpa's old. Well we're not gonna do that
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: to Grandpa's because Grandpa's got is not sophisticated enough for
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: our purposes. We totally the total length that we actually ran, yes,
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: which I'll I will say that I don't think I
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: ever actually hit run For me personally, I might have
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: gotten to like a you have a very long day shuffle,
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: so you you would do like this this long saunter over. Yeah,
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: I feel like it would almost slow me down if
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: I got up to top speed. It would take me
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: so much again come to a stop or slow down
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: or whatever. But again, we can spend so much time
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: on this. Um. Yeah, so there a question is is
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: about this? Is like we only roughly we went fifty yards,
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: are still right from where we started to where we
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: stopped shooting the pistol. There were other targets that were farther.
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: We shot with the rifle right at the hundred. But like,
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: how much is actual you looked at when I see you,
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: I think that person is an athlete? How much is
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: athleticism really play in this? Good question? Yeah, No, that's
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: an excellent question. So I will tell you right now
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: that it makes a big difference. But you don't have
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: to be incredibly athletic in order to be successful in
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: action shooting, right. And so to give you an example,
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: there's this guy back home. His name is Don Celeski.
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: Actually he I don't know if he's familiar with y'all,
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: but he's got an Africa whole bunch to hunt and
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: stuff like. He's such a cool guy anyway. So he's
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: this old geezer. He wears two knee braces, right, and
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: he like has this hunch, but he is like the
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: most accurate person ever. He takes his sweet time, but
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: he's just accurate and he places very well. And there
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: there are a lot of people who don't necessarily have
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: the economy of movement, but there when they do pull
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: that trigger, they mean every time, they're very efficient and
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: so they do well. Right, But when you get up
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: to that upper you know, level, that upper of shooters,
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: the athleticism does make a difference because, um, the when
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: you are being very very conscious of how you're moving
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: your body, that's efficiency, and that when we start breaking
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: down the tents of a second, the difference of Um,
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: like what you said, when you're sauntering over, you concern
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: about stopping in time, so we do like a stutter step, right,
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: So the difference between having a efficient stutter step into
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: a stop and already having your gun up on a
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: target versus running somewhere, stopping and then drawing could be
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: two tents of a second, and that could be the
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: difference between winning or losing a match. So it's like choreography.
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: It is choreography, So you don't necessarily have to be
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: athletic per se, but you have to really understand how
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: to move a body in efficient way. I can see
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: at a point like competitively, Um, you could be like
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: a great shooter and have great hand eye coordination, but
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: in the end of like you would save seconds off
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: your time if you were super agile. And again it
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: isn't necessarily like you're proving everything like your equipment. You're
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: trying to make your equipment maximized. You're trying to make
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: your your procedures and methods maximized. Like you're probably gonna
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: wind up maximizing the physical component. Like you want to
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: make everything better, right, Like how are you using your
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: body and space? Are you being specific with your movements
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: or just yeah, you're all over the place and it's yeah,
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: undermining efficiency. I guess absolutely absolutely what observations questions you
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: got grind, I guess, uh where where you feel like
- 1:46:45Speaker 1: the application is to hunting and you know the speed
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: or I was talking to Garrett earlier and he was
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: saying one thing about practicing three gun is like target acquisition.
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: So something right like if something an animal is is
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: moving you're looking carefully, is moving between trees disappears, you know,
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: there's some kind of speed, the accuracy, like you're just
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: trying to dial that in. I've seen more game get
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: the slip on someone because they didn't get on it
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: and shoot when they should have. Then then they missed
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: like like right right right there, and the like I
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: can't find it. I'm like getting on. I think getting on.
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: I think the shotgun stuff is really good for like
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: just being fast, especially picture and like hunting cotton tails
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: or you know, quail whatever, like wing shooting. I think
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: that just that ability to like see something and shoot,
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: see something shoot, I think, um, that's probably I guess
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: the most obvious ones. And then also just a thing
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: of like learning that mindset of being methodical, being finicky
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: about your gear, knowing that like this goes there, that
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: goes there. I do this, This is my routine, This
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: is my method, you know, I shoot this way right,
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: and um like getting in that mind frame of procedure. Uh,
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: it's helpful, But I don't know that it would. I
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: think that there'd be like more like if you wanted
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: to just train to uh just trained to be a
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: wing shooter or just trained to be a good big
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: game hunter, I think you would find ways to train
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: obviously much more specifically. It wouldn't be as much fun,
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: but you can train much more specifically. I think that's
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: a great point is working on those those transitions and
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: understanding your scope, going from that dialed in you know,
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: three power at hud yards all the way down to
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: you know, one point five to one. And yeah, I
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: think that there's a lot more applicable with hunting shooting.
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: I believe overall competitive shooting makes you very proficient with
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: your platforms, right, and it's just general firearm handling. You
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: guys fiddle around with your stuff, you know that, oh
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: how this work well? And that's the thing. When I
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: first walked into a gun shop when I was you know,
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: newer to it. You know, I remember sitting there so nervous,
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: like I couldn't remember how to pull back the slide
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: and have it stay open, and you know, all those controls.
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: Just it made me anxious. And now it's like if
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: I walk into a gun shop, normally, if they see
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: me handle a gun, they just stepped back and they're like, really,
- 1:49:33Speaker 1: you do things clearly, you know what you're doing, but
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: you know so again, when you take it upon yourself
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: to be a better marksman, whether if it's through competitute,
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: Tissian shooting or another avenue, than overall your understanding of
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: firearms is going to expand exponentially. And the difference between
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: competition just going to the range of practice is that
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: you now have you have all of these rules, as
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: you have people who are pushing you, You have ways
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: to gauge your improvement, and you have something to hold
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: you accountable. It's a very social support, right, and so
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: every you know, weekend or once a month, or however
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: much you want to compete, you have your buddies there
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: at the range, and the commodity is incredible, and so
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: you you build this this conjured spiritment. They hold you accountable,
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: Like if you don't choke for a match or two,
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: they're like, hey, where the heck were you? Um and
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: so again that dairy queen. If you're not safe, they're
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: not gonna if you're not safe, yeah, they're not gonna
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: ascend to dairy queen if you just don't show up, Like, hey,
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: you know, I think you deserve it. You hold accountable.
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: I meant like, there's like a very I would like
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: to point out that there is a um extremely strong
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: emphasis on safe handling. Oh yeah, yeah, I mean you know,
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: and y'all probably saw it today. I would get asked
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: a question, but then out of the periphle of my eye,
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: if I saw something I didn't like, I'm like, I
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: literally hold up my hand be like, hey, what are
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: you doing over there? You know? Are you breaking the
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: one A d are you? You know? Loading that guy?
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: And when I didn't tell you loaded or you know whatever?
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: Uh so we are above. There's a lot going on.
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: You gotta pay You gotta be like spatially aware what's happening.
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: You have to be very aware. Tell tell people how
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: to tell people how to find if they want to
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: come check out because Instagram is cool, because you can
- 1:51:14Speaker 1: see what you kind of get like a sense you
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: put videos up and ship like that. Yeah. So I
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: put videos up on and I'm probably more strong on
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: Instagram than anything. People keep telling me to do YouTube.
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: So I don't know any girl. H three gun girl
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: is Instagram. Um, and you're writing your videos are on
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: guns dot com they are? Yeah, So I do so
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: all my travels because we're talking earlier about how I
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: live in a camp for travel across country. I post
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: all those to my stories so you can see my
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: awesome photography from you know where I'm at. All my stories, um,
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: and then all the videos that I do on fire
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: and reviews, educational videos, those are with guns dot Com.
- 1:51:48Speaker 1: So they have a YouTube channel, which is like probably
- 1:51:51Speaker 1: the most popular platform, and then they have a website
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: as well. Um. But that's that's most the work that
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: I do for them. So that's that's how you can
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: find me. And then where if people want to go
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: and they want to go, uh spectate at a three
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: gun tournament, what's sort of like the what's like the
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: hot website for seeing what's going on in that world? Ah? Yes, okay,
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: so this is the moment I have been waiting for
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: this entire podcast. If you want to get into competitions shooting,
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: um look at So first of all, go to practice score.
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: So that is like think of the word practice and
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: then the words score, so it's actually practice score, sear
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: not practice practice score. Yeah, practice score. So go to
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: practice score, pull up your town and you could type
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: in us P s A three gun whatever. You could
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: just plug in your town or your state, like I
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: already pulled him up in Montana. There's a club in
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: Big Sky UM that does usps A competition, so I
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: might try to hop into one of those UM anyways,
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: So you could go there and figure out where your
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: local competition is from there, then you could get the
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: contact information for the match director and ask him like hey,
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: I'm a new shooter, I need gear or I need advice,
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: and I would guarantee that they're going to be helpful
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: to you and getting into competition shooting. And then on
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: Facebook you could just research local groups and they're yeah, okay,
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: so Instagram at n H three like numeral three gun girl.
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: That's it. And then practical score. If you want to
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: get into competitions and guns dot com, great you are
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: l just lay it right out yeah, it's very it's
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: very guns Stockholm. That's why I love it. The problem though,
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: is because it says dot com. When you start to
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: type it into social media, they automatically want to like
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: link to. And it's like when I'm texting someone about
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: guns dot com and automatically is trying to give me
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: the website. I'm like, no, I'm just trying to say it.
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: I don't want to share it, but I digress. Well,
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: thank you, Taylor Thorne. Thanks for it was a great day.
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: It was like a genuine range day, awesome day. It
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: was a range day and it was a fun range day.
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: It was awesome, all right. Thanks a lot. Thank you.
