- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. Alright, well, the next three
- 0:07Speaker 1: days I'm going to chronicle my mindset after a really
- 0:16Speaker 1: solid weekend honoring my dad watching Saint John's baseball take
- 0:24Speaker 1: on Georgetown, a matchup we watched, uh when I was
- 0:28Speaker 1: a prospective student in two thousand and nine and the
- 0:31Speaker 1: Johnny's baseball team opened up City Field against Georgetown. So
- 0:36Speaker 1: seeing that matchup now seventeen years later was pretty uh awesome.
- 0:44Speaker 1: And the kids are great, and I know the assistant coach,
- 0:47Speaker 1: Garrett'scavelli one helped St. John's win the Big Eiast Baseball
- 0:52Speaker 1: title a couple of years ago with a tremendous third
- 0:55Speaker 1: out in the ninth inning. And then yesterday little one
- 1:02Speaker 1: with a friend of mine, we watched at City Field
- 1:09Speaker 1: the A's take on the Mets. Of course, Mets baseball
- 1:12Speaker 1: has been in my blood for a long time as
- 1:14Speaker 1: much as the Yankee baseball has been. And I'm going
- 1:15Speaker 1: to the game tonight not only because it's the honor Dad,
- 1:19Speaker 1: but I do want to see Mike Trout bat in person.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Plus Sheriff needs to be in town for the Yanks
- 1:25Speaker 1: tonight because they're on a five game losing street that
- 1:27Speaker 1: cannot uh keep going. I wanna kind of go up
- 1:30Speaker 1: there and put a an overview and overlook to this
- 1:34Speaker 1: team and see what's going on, dissect it maybe for
- 1:37Speaker 1: one that got Alex media with my own eyes. But
- 1:43Speaker 1: I did all that because today, three years ago, I'm
- 1:48Speaker 1: doing that tonight too, But because three years ago I
- 1:54Speaker 1: walked into my dad's room, his hospital room, and he
- 2:01Speaker 1: wasn't really responding. He had just made it through his
- 2:07Speaker 1: last Easter. And uh, this was Thursday, April thirteenth, twenty
- 2:15Speaker 1: twenty six. I remember it so well. I remember it
- 2:20Speaker 1: so well cause when I walked in and saw I'm unresponsive,
- 2:25Speaker 1: I immediately called the folks at the station and I said, look,
- 2:31Speaker 1: this could this could be nearing the end here, like
- 2:36Speaker 1: he's not doing well, he's unresponsive, I gotta stay. The
- 2:44Speaker 1: staying ended up being two days long, and I didn't
- 2:49Speaker 1: overnight Thursday to Friday, and I remember my coming upstairs
- 3:01Speaker 1: with me to see him, and that would be his
- 3:07Speaker 1: final time alive because he was resting and I needed
- 3:11Speaker 1: her to be part of this with me. And so
- 3:15Speaker 1: she came upstairs and saw him sleeping heavily, and he
- 3:23Speaker 1: was talking here and there about as a three day series,
- 3:29Speaker 1: because this is how I'm going to process with you
- 3:31Speaker 1: the audience at one look at Balax Media. How my
- 3:37Speaker 1: dad's final a few days weren't went something says to
- 3:41Speaker 1: historically document this with you on this platform. Anyhow, we
- 3:53Speaker 1: go down the chapel and my mom says, you know,
- 3:56Speaker 1: your dad is dying. And that was a really rough
- 4:01Speaker 1: thing to say and to hear. I mean, because she
- 4:06Speaker 1: was right and I was seeing it, and I had
- 4:12Speaker 1: to drop everything and literally spend those two days during
- 4:19Speaker 1: the week with my dad. And I'll explain more tomorrow
- 4:24Speaker 1: about the Friday, but the sight of him unresponsive was
- 4:31Speaker 1: one of the most chilling things. And I think, I'm
- 4:36Speaker 1: not gonna show my dad, but I'll show what my
- 4:38Speaker 1: mom did for him. She put my Cup shirt in
- 4:41Speaker 1: front of his at his feet because she knew he
- 4:47Speaker 1: was a Cup fan, obviously, and she knew it would
- 4:50Speaker 1: be the right thing to do. Like I had tied
- 4:55Speaker 1: palms a few days earlier to the back of his
- 4:58Speaker 1: bed spittle, my mom put a cubshirto on it, and
- 5:08Speaker 1: I have that picture still. But I tell you why
- 5:14Speaker 1: I'm on the podcast tonight, not just to talk about it,
- 5:16Speaker 1: for a second. But it's because I am now looking
- 5:19Speaker 1: at the Daily Word, which is produced by Unity Publication.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I am for April thirteenth, twenty twenty six. The topic
- 5:32Speaker 1: is Divine Order, aligning my thoughts with spiritual truth. I
- 5:38Speaker 1: am Divine Order. Affirming divine order can be such a comfort,
- 5:43Speaker 1: especially when chaos seems to rain and a desired outcome
- 5:46Speaker 1: feels out of reach. But divine order is so much
- 5:50Speaker 1: more than a comforting idea. It is a spiritual truth
- 5:54Speaker 1: that undergirds all things and upon which all manifestation depends.
- 6:03Speaker 1: If I feel out of step with divine order, I
- 6:05Speaker 1: don't try to hin tackle the chaos that surrounds me
- 6:08Speaker 1: until I have gone within Firse. I begin by meditating
- 6:13Speaker 1: on the idea of order, letting it take root in
- 6:17Speaker 1: my consciousness and let it flourish there. Then give thanks
- 6:23Speaker 1: for the ideas I receive from my prayer time and
- 6:26Speaker 1: act upon them one at a time. I practice patients
- 6:33Speaker 1: as I trust divine timing, knowing my life and all
- 6:36Speaker 1: life is in divine order. Of course, my dad passed
- 6:41Speaker 1: on April fifteenth, twenty twenty three, and that time he
- 6:46Speaker 1: couldn't have been any more. John Garrett esque. He left
- 6:54Speaker 1: the world on tax Day and that was one of
- 6:58Speaker 1: his favorite days in his accountant And that's pretty intriguing
- 7:04Speaker 1: to me always that he passed away on tax Day,
- 7:12Speaker 1: and those three days that started today all felt like
- 7:17Speaker 1: divine order. Sad, divine order, but divine order. Just like
- 7:22Speaker 1: me taking him out of where he was staying and
- 7:25Speaker 1: into the ambulance to the hospital felt like divine order.
- 7:29Speaker 1: And timing. This does two and in life's current moments,
- 7:38Speaker 1: I feel like it's always in the order of Milchisa
- 7:40Speaker 1: dek in divine order. There is a timing to it.
- 7:47Speaker 1: As my friend I went to the game with yesterday
- 7:48Speaker 1: and I say, when star is a line, stars a line.
- 7:58Speaker 1: And thus began the three day journey watching my dad
- 8:08Speaker 1: pass away. And it seems so weird to say it
- 8:14Speaker 1: like that, but that's what it was. And I'll give
- 8:23Speaker 1: you Tuesday's prayer Tuesday, April fourteenth, tomorrow thanks to the
- 8:28Speaker 1: Daily Word, and I want to leave you with this note.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna start a series called the Monday Mindset thanks
- 8:44Speaker 1: to Rory McElroy. Dad's favorite thing to watch was golf.
- 8:49Speaker 1: He loved Rory McElroy and of course Rory McElroy yesterday,
- 8:54Speaker 1: joining just three other legends in the golf world Tiger Woods,
- 8:58Speaker 1: Nick Faldough and Jack nicklus As a back to back
- 9:01Speaker 1: Masters champion, And if you watch the Amazon Sports Prime
- 9:06Speaker 1: Amazon Prime Sports documentary on him, he had a great line.
- 9:14Speaker 1: And I want to share that with you right now. Actually,
- 9:17Speaker 1: it's not belief, it's knowing knowing that you're going to win.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I do believe belief comes into things, into divine timing,
- 9:30Speaker 1: the believing in the divine timing. But when you know
- 9:34Speaker 1: it's right, you know it's right. I kind of phrase
- 9:38Speaker 1: that in a life sense, but it isn't about belief.
- 9:44Speaker 1: It's about knowing you're going to win. And I think
- 9:47Speaker 1: in life it's about knowing. The phrase always is when
- 9:51Speaker 1: you know, you know. And on April thirteenth, twenty twenty three,
- 9:58Speaker 1: my dad was starting to know his time was coming,
- 10:03Speaker 1: and I wasn't gonna leave his side for one iota.
- 10:07Speaker 1: These next twenty four hours. I'll tell you about how
- 10:11Speaker 1: that last Friday and my dad's life turned out tomorrow,
- 10:16Speaker 1: but I want to live you with that Monday mindset
- 10:19Speaker 1: because it's about knowing you're going to win. And we
- 10:25Speaker 1: all know my dad won it life right up until
- 10:28Speaker 1: the very end.
