- 1:04Speaker 1: are not going to spend a lot of time doing
- 1:07Speaker 1: news and notes on these episodes like we do on
- 1:09Speaker 1: our review episodes, but we wanted to touch base a
- 1:12Speaker 1: little bit about the viewership of the debut of The
- 1:15Speaker 1: Way Home. Yes, Hallmark Media put out a press release
- 1:19Speaker 1: at The Way Home earned two point four million viewers
- 1:23Speaker 1: for its debut night. Let's hear a synopsis for episode two,
- 1:27Speaker 1: Episode two, entitled Scar Tissue, Kat is presented with a
- 1:31Speaker 1: book deal that asks her to dredge up terrible memories.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Dale wants to say goodbye to the past, while Alice
- 1:38Speaker 1: yearns to return. There stars Annie McDowell, Kyler, Lee, Evan Williams,
- 1:43Speaker 1: Sadie Laflame Snow.
- 1:45Speaker 2: This episode opens right where episode one left off, and
- 1:50Speaker 2: we know that Alice is still not home because Kat
- 1:52Speaker 2: is trying to reach Alice via voicemail.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the same, It's basically the same scene we
- 1:56Speaker 1: got last week. Right, She's leaving the same message we
- 1:59Speaker 1: heard in the episode. She's frantic, and we cut to
- 2:02Speaker 1: these scenes of the house is a complete disaster, which
- 2:05Speaker 1: is no time has passed? How all this time to
- 2:09Speaker 1: make all this mess as if she's been gone for weeks. Yes, yes,
- 2:13Speaker 1: that's my biggest problem with this episode, and we'll talk
- 2:16Speaker 1: about it in a little bit, but okay, yes, it's
- 2:19Speaker 1: like she had just like the house is in such
- 2:22Speaker 1: disarray all of a sudden, It's like, why is there
- 2:24Speaker 1: a rotisserie chicken on the counter, Like you know what
- 2:28Speaker 1: I mean? It just is like, wasn't she was plucked
- 2:30Speaker 1: out of like the house in the middle of dinner?
- 2:33Speaker 1: It was weird. I thought that was kind of weird.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I thought so too, And we see that Kats things
- 2:38Speaker 2: are still in the banks of the pond, letting us
- 2:40Speaker 2: know that.
- 2:40Speaker 1: She has not returned. That's right. And then in the
- 2:43Speaker 1: next scene we see Alice and Elliott. They are in
- 2:46Speaker 1: the barn. We are in nineteen ninety nine. She wakes
- 2:49Speaker 1: up and she's like, mom, so and this is all
- 2:53Speaker 1: the while while the voicemail is plain, m so. Is
- 2:58Speaker 1: she dreaming about this or she just yeah, wakes up
- 3:03Speaker 1: in connection oh maybe, or does she just realize like,
- 3:08Speaker 1: oh crap, oh crap, I'm still here in nineteen ninety nine. Yeah,
- 3:11Speaker 1: she's gonna be freaked out, like you know when yes,
- 3:16Speaker 1: fall asleep somewhere where you're not supposed to, and then
- 3:18Speaker 1: you'll wake up and you're like, oh crap, I gotta
- 3:20Speaker 1: get home. I gotta get that out of here. It
- 3:22Speaker 1: was minutes ago, yes, exactly exactly. We cut back to
- 3:27Speaker 1: the present day. Kat is driving, she's talking to Brady,
- 3:31Speaker 1: and she's essentially having a panic attack. She's obviously, appears
- 3:36Speaker 1: to me anyway, dredging up memories of Jacob. Jacob going
- 3:41Speaker 1: missing and now Alice is missing. Obviously, things with Jacob
- 3:45Speaker 1: going missing did not end well, so she's jumping to
- 3:49Speaker 1: a lot of conclusions here, and in this scene is
- 3:53Speaker 1: the first time that we hear that Jacob went missing,
- 3:56Speaker 1: because she's like, I can't do this again. So so
- 4:00Speaker 1: prior to this, we didn't know what happened to Jacob. Yes,
- 4:05Speaker 1: we find a lot more about about Jacob's disappearance as
- 4:09Speaker 1: it were in this episode. Right. And I don't know
- 4:12Speaker 1: if you noticed, but when Kat was driving, she stops
- 4:15Speaker 1: and out the driver's side window is the White Cross
- 4:19Speaker 1: memorial that is later visited by Dell and Alice. I
- 4:24Speaker 1: did not Yes, I did watch this twice, so I'm
- 4:29Speaker 1: the first time I watch. I watched for enjoyment and
- 4:32Speaker 1: then I go back and I really like scour the scenes. Now.
- 4:37Speaker 1: My question here at this point though, is why is
- 4:40Speaker 1: nobody looking in the pond If you have a body
- 4:42Speaker 1: of water on your property, it seems to me that
- 4:44Speaker 1: would be the first place that someone would go if
- 4:47Speaker 1: you are you talking about Jacob or Alice. Well, Alice,
- 4:51Speaker 1: at this point, they can't find her, obviously, no one
- 4:53Speaker 1: has been there because they would see her things on
- 4:56Speaker 1: the bank of the pond. Oh that's true. Yeah, they're
- 4:59Speaker 1: not like looking through woods for her yet. No, if
- 5:02Speaker 1: I had a body of water and a missing child,
- 5:04Speaker 1: that's where I would go. Yeah, well, I will say
- 5:09Speaker 1: that in the scene, I do believe Kyler Lee's crying face,
- 5:13Speaker 1: but when there's they close up on her, there are
- 5:15Speaker 1: no tears. Well, but she's doing a nice job. I
- 5:19Speaker 1: am worried along with her. I am definitely worried along
- 5:23Speaker 1: with her. And later on, like she puts me on
- 5:25Speaker 1: an emotional Burlla Coater, kyler leid as as cat. She's
- 5:30Speaker 1: so angry all the time, all the time. I'm hoping
- 5:34Speaker 1: there's resolution to the next day. See Dell is standing
- 5:37Speaker 1: on a body of water. It's not pond. It doesn't
- 5:40Speaker 1: look like pond that we are used to scene. No,
- 5:43Speaker 1: she's a cocking cliff over an ocean, right, and she's
- 5:47Speaker 1: on the phone to like a sheriff or something, and
- 5:49Speaker 1: she has pained expression. And for me, this is the
- 5:53Speaker 1: first time I see Dell show any kind of like
- 5:56Speaker 1: emotion or expression or emoting any feeling other than kind
- 6:02Speaker 1: of gruff Dale. You know, one hundred percent agree.
- 6:05Speaker 2: And in the previous scene, right before it cut to
- 6:07Speaker 2: this scene, Brady said, how's Dell, And Kat says, you know,
- 6:11Speaker 2: she's convinced everything's going to be just fine. But we
- 6:14Speaker 2: kind of get this peak behind the curtain when we
- 6:16Speaker 2: get to this scene that she might be putting on
- 6:18Speaker 2: a brave face to cat but is in fact pretty
- 6:20Speaker 2: worried about this, to the point that she's called the
- 6:23Speaker 2: police chief because she does say thanks Chief.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Yes exactly. Cut back to nineteen ninety nine, we have
- 6:28Speaker 1: young Elliott and Alice walking through the woods. Alice isn't
- 6:32Speaker 1: quite sure to get back At this point, I was
- 6:34Speaker 1: wondering why she didn't just jump into the pond the
- 6:36Speaker 1: night before. If the pond got you here, it would
- 6:39Speaker 1: stand to reason that the pond is going to get
- 6:40Speaker 1: you back home. But now they've waited an entire night
- 6:43Speaker 1: to figure this out. I don't know, are you fifteen?
- 6:45Speaker 1: Are you going to jump into like a dark pond
- 6:48Speaker 1: hoping that you get transported back to the present day.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Oh that's a good point. I decided the pond got
- 6:54Speaker 1: you there. Jump back in the pond. Yeah, on top
- 6:57Speaker 1: time machine man. This is the comedic highlight of this
- 7:00Speaker 1: episode for me, because Alice is trying to convince Elliott
- 7:04Speaker 1: that she is from the future and that he will
- 7:06Speaker 1: help her and they will know each other in the
- 7:07Speaker 1: future and she just has to get him on board now,
- 7:11Speaker 1: and he says, fine, why don't you tell me something
- 7:13Speaker 1: about the future, and his next line is there's no
- 7:17Speaker 1: way that guy becomes president. Yeah, that was funny, right,
- 7:20Speaker 1: well done. I was like, hmmm, I like you writers,
- 7:23Speaker 1: that was really funny. And then basically right after that,
- 7:27Speaker 1: he asks Alice like, basically if he is her dad
- 7:32Speaker 1: in the future, and Alice is mortified. She's like, no, dude,
- 7:37Speaker 1: you're my science teacher. Yeah, she's you know, So, up
- 7:42Speaker 1: until this point, I didn't really realize that like Elliott
- 7:46Speaker 1: and Kat as teenagers had like a thing with each other,
- 7:52Speaker 1: or like a one sided crush. Maybe I think you're
- 7:56Speaker 1: right about that second part. I think it's one sided,
- 7:58Speaker 1: and I think later in this episod so we get
- 8:00Speaker 1: more hints that it's one sided. My feeling about this
- 8:04Speaker 1: relationship is that to Cat he was her best friend,
- 8:06Speaker 1: and to Elliott, Cat was the one who got away.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Mm hmm yeah, yeah, yea, yeah yeah. So Alice jumps
- 8:14Speaker 1: back into the pond, hoping to return to the present,
- 8:18Speaker 1: and Elliott jumps in after her, and he's keen out,
- 8:22Speaker 1: where are you at? Where did you know, I think
- 8:24Speaker 1: this is where he realized, so like, hey, this is
- 8:26Speaker 1: some portal to the future, yeah, which must be super freaky.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 8:32Speaker 2: And we cut back to adult Elliot overlooking the farm.
- 8:34Speaker 2: He sees Alice running home in her borrowed baby doll dress,
- 8:39Speaker 2: and he's calm about it.
- 8:40Speaker 1: It's cool. He's like, well, this is going the way
- 8:43Speaker 1: that I imagine it's supposed to, and now he's seeing
- 8:47Speaker 1: the beginnings of it from the future, right. It was weird.
- 8:51Speaker 2: It's hard to wrap my brain around the timeline of
- 8:54Speaker 2: how all this works.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I agree. I agree. Sometimes I just have to like
- 8:58Speaker 1: put it aside, like ask too many questions. Yeah, exactly exactly.
- 9:03Speaker 1: So here we get the opening child the Way Home,
- 9:05Speaker 1: but we have no opening music like we had last week. No,
- 9:09Speaker 1: I'm kind of disappointed by that. I know, I was
- 9:11Speaker 1: hoping for that little you know that song to come back.
- 9:14Speaker 1: And a Cat returns home to a house that still
- 9:17Speaker 1: appears empty, and I gotta say that, like slightly swinging
- 9:21Speaker 1: porch swing, it just has like an eerie vibe to
- 9:24Speaker 1: it when she's coming back home, And then we get
- 9:26Speaker 1: a flashback to Cat and her dad sitting on the porch,
- 9:30Speaker 1: saying her dad telling him will find Jacob and that
- 9:32Speaker 1: a landry doesn't give up hope, a line that will
- 9:35Speaker 1: carry some weight later in this episode, right right, right,
- 9:39Speaker 1: So Kat heads back inside, she sees wet footprints on
- 9:42Speaker 1: the floor. Alice and Kat are reunited, and Alice truly
- 9:46Speaker 1: is like excited to see her mom. She's hoping like,
- 9:50Speaker 1: just don't ask a million questions, It's okay, I'm back,
- 9:53Speaker 1: and Kat is pissed. She you know, she wants an explanation.
- 9:59Speaker 1: She wants to know where her kid was at. And
- 10:01Speaker 1: now she basically assumes that Alice was trying to get
- 10:06Speaker 1: back home to her dad. Right, but Alice doesn't have
- 10:10Speaker 1: like a real explanation of where she's at, So so
- 10:13Speaker 1: Kat's just smoke is coming out of her ears. Basically, yeah,
- 10:19Speaker 1: So Alice says, I'm so sorry, I was trying to
- 10:21Speaker 1: get back home, and Kat misinterprets that.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Now, there was a brief moment where Kat was more
- 10:28Speaker 2: relieved than angry, and then once that passes and she
- 10:32Speaker 2: realizes that Alice is whole in front of her, and
- 10:34Speaker 2: she loses it. I gotta say, I can I can
- 10:37Speaker 2: relate to that?
- 10:38Speaker 1: Sure, Glad you're here now, don't ever do that again?
- 10:42Speaker 1: Right exactly. The next thing, we see Dell at the
- 10:46Speaker 1: table and she's relieved. She's relieved that Alice is home.
- 10:50Speaker 1: She can hear Cat and Alice fighting in the background
- 10:53Speaker 1: and you can see like the relief on her face.
- 10:55Speaker 1: But as soon as Kat walks in, del fronts and
- 10:58Speaker 1: is like, I told you everything will be okay. Yeah.
- 11:02Speaker 1: The acting there is impeccable because you see her take
- 11:05Speaker 1: this steadying breath. She's okay, and now she's like, oh no,
- 11:08Speaker 1: I gotta be tough guy again. Yeah. I'm like, is
- 11:12Speaker 1: it too soon to talk about Emmy nominations for Andy mcdowells. O,
- 11:17Speaker 1: my goodness, what if it be such a win for
- 11:21Speaker 1: Hallmark that he's so cool? What isn't it? I love it.
- 11:24Speaker 2: In the previous scene, Alice was grounded and she's told
- 11:27Speaker 2: she's only going to school and that's it. So we
- 11:30Speaker 2: cut to Alice at school. She's going to school, even
- 11:33Speaker 2: though she was missing all night and the kids were
- 11:34Speaker 2: staring because not only is she the girl who pulled
- 11:37Speaker 2: the fire alarm and apparently is rumored to have been
- 11:40Speaker 2: an arsonist, but she's also the girl who ran away now,
- 11:44Speaker 2: I mean, good news travels fast in that town. Bad
- 11:47Speaker 2: news travels fast.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Seriously, I mean, because I feel like we're only like
- 11:52Speaker 1: one day the next day after she started school the
- 11:55Speaker 1: day before. Yes, it's been two days, and this poor
- 11:58Speaker 1: girl is yeah okay in good news. Though at school
- 12:03Speaker 1: she does appear to have two friends, Spencer and Zoe,
- 12:08Speaker 1: and I am looking forward to the role these two
- 12:12Speaker 1: were going to play in her life. That's good. I
- 12:15Speaker 1: think that's going to round out her character, Like, as
- 12:19Speaker 1: a fifteen year old, you need other peers in her life.
- 12:22Speaker 1: So yeah, not just your mom and your grandma. Yeah, exactly,
- 12:26Speaker 1: So that's going to be interesting how they incorporate them
- 12:30Speaker 1: into the story. And then I think we already, yeah,
- 12:33Speaker 1: here it is. I think we're already seeing a little
- 12:35Speaker 1: bit of that because he shows Alice that picture of
- 12:39Speaker 1: his of his mom and her mom as teenagers. Yeah,
- 12:44Speaker 1: and you kind of see a softening in Alice's face.
- 12:47Speaker 1: She's happy to see this. And I think in the
- 12:49Speaker 1: earlier scene when she saw her mom and her mom
- 12:52Speaker 1: was yelling, she said, what happened to you? Because she's
- 12:54Speaker 1: seen this bright, happy teenager who was her peer in
- 12:59Speaker 1: the past, and now her mom is angry and scared
- 13:03Speaker 1: and tough right exactly.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Cut back to the farm, Dell is talking with her
- 13:09Speaker 2: friend Rita. They're canning honey, packaging honey from Dell's.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Bees, and Rita's pissed.
- 13:16Speaker 2: She's mad that d Alice ran away, and she thinks
- 13:18Speaker 2: Dell is ignoring her feelings.
- 13:19Speaker 1: And I gotta say, Rita, she's gonna have to earn
- 13:23Speaker 1: my love. She doesn't take any shit, basically right. She
- 13:29Speaker 1: tells Dell, like, if your kid is gonna mess up
- 13:34Speaker 1: all the good work that you've done to yourself, like
- 13:37Speaker 1: she's gonna have to answer to me, you know, Yeah,
- 13:40Speaker 1: And I wonder okay. According to Rita, Delle has done
- 13:44Speaker 1: some healing. From an outsider's perspective, it feels like.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Dell's healing is ignoring the past. Now we come to
- 13:51Speaker 2: find out she has taken some concrete steps to provide
- 13:54Speaker 2: herself closure. But I think there's a lot of healing
- 13:57Speaker 2: that still needs to be done based on certain things
- 14:00Speaker 2: at the house, the way Jacob and Colton have been erased.
- 14:04Speaker 1: From the house. But also doesn't Dell need to do
- 14:10Speaker 1: some healing of her relationship with her daughter because m hmmm,
- 14:14Speaker 1: Kat experienced this too. I don't think they can heal
- 14:18Speaker 1: in like two parallel lines. At some point those two
- 14:21Speaker 1: things need to cross. Yeah, I agree, this was a
- 14:24Speaker 1: little this whole scene here with the friend talking about
- 14:29Speaker 1: the healing that Dale has already done. It was different
- 14:33Speaker 1: than what we saw in episode one. And I feel
- 14:37Speaker 1: like the Dell that we got in episode one was
- 14:40Speaker 1: like real tough end, you know what I mean. And
- 14:43Speaker 1: so now we have Adele who's on her path of
- 14:46Speaker 1: healing from you. The timing is like weird for me,
- 14:51Speaker 1: But I think the difference here is that the Dell
- 14:55Speaker 1: we saw in episode one we really only saw her
- 14:58Speaker 1: in relationship to and Alice, who she has this wall
- 15:03Speaker 1: up to protect herself from the past and those ceilings.
- 15:06Speaker 1: And this Dell is with her friend who has experienced
- 15:12Speaker 1: the past twenty years with her and knows more. And
- 15:14Speaker 1: I think this is more the real Dell in this moment. Okay,
- 15:19Speaker 1: And at the end, Rita alludes.
- 15:20Speaker 2: To something happening this weekend. We don't know what it
- 15:22Speaker 2: is going to be yet. Right last week, I think
- 15:26Speaker 2: it was assumed that it was a foregone conclusion that
- 15:29Speaker 2: Elliott had sent the letter. But I think this scene
- 15:31Speaker 2: cements that it is still a mystery that remains to
- 15:34Speaker 2: be solved.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Because Dell accuses Rita of sending the letter, Rita insists
- 15:38Speaker 1: she doesn't. They bring up the letter multiple times throughout
- 15:41Speaker 1: the episode, and no one has claimed ownership for the
- 15:43Speaker 1: sending up the letter at this point. Right, I have
- 15:46Speaker 1: some comments on that later on. Okay, okay. The next scene,
- 15:50Speaker 1: we have Kat in her bedroom looking at an old
- 15:53Speaker 1: photo of her nineteen ninety nine Alice. It's that polaroid
- 15:56Speaker 1: that her brother had taken, and her ex calls and
- 16:01Speaker 1: he wants to know, like what the status of Alice is,
- 16:03Speaker 1: and she's like, oh shit, I forgot to call you. Yeah, Wow,
- 16:07Speaker 1: she's home, she's back at school. It's all good, Like
- 16:09Speaker 1: we're we're all good here, you know. I thought that
- 16:12Speaker 1: was kind of funny. I thought it was funny too,
- 16:14Speaker 1: But I think Brady handles this better than I would. Yeah,
- 16:17Speaker 1: but then if you me in the loop, if she's missing,
- 16:19Speaker 1: I'm over here freaking out, you need to. I agree.
- 16:23Speaker 1: But he's kind of an idiot to me a little bit,
- 16:27Speaker 1: So he deserved it. I don't want to say he
- 16:30Speaker 1: deserved it, but like, I don't know if he's so
- 16:34Speaker 1: concerned he needs to come out there and start looking
- 16:36Speaker 1: for Alice himself, you know what I mean? Yep, good point.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Yes, he's still sitting in his office, so he's not
- 16:41Speaker 2: that worried about it.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Rick.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Kat does offer to come home because it's not working.
- 16:45Speaker 2: And again, I remind you, it's.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Been two days. Change takes time. I wrote that to quote,
- 16:50Speaker 1: it's not working. It's been too day, right, Like it's
- 16:54Speaker 1: gonna take a minute, jeez, Louise people. And Brady has
- 16:57Speaker 1: an idea. He has a proposition.
- 16:59Speaker 2: There's a publishing house that wants Kat to write her
- 17:01Speaker 2: family story. And I already know Dell is not going
- 17:05Speaker 2: to like this information, right, and this is funny. He says,
- 17:09Speaker 2: like the publisher's looking or likes cold cases, true crime,
- 17:13Speaker 2: family saga, and I'm like, cold cases, true crime?
- 17:17Speaker 1: What are we getting into here with Jacob? You know?
- 17:22Speaker 1: And Cat seems to think there's some sort of ulterior
- 17:25Speaker 1: motive here. She's not really into Brady helping her out.
- 17:28Speaker 1: She says, you're with Rachel. I can find my own
- 17:30Speaker 1: book deals. Cat, clearly you cannot take the help where
- 17:33Speaker 1: you can get it. It has only been less than
- 17:36Speaker 1: twenty four hours. That she started looking for a book
- 17:38Speaker 1: deal though, So this is true, this is true what
- 17:41Speaker 1: I did? Right? How's that working out for you? Kat?
- 17:43Speaker 1: I mean, keep your options open exactly.
- 17:46Speaker 2: They fade out on the ceiling with the glow in
- 17:48Speaker 2: the dark stars.
- 17:50Speaker 1: The next scene is maybe one of my favorite scenes. Yes,
- 17:54Speaker 1: Alice barges into the teacher's lounge and she says, we
- 17:57Speaker 1: need to talk about last night, and Elliott turns around
- 18:00Speaker 1: and the expression on his face and the teachers behind
- 18:03Speaker 1: him was so awesome. Yeah, that was great comedic timing.
- 18:08Speaker 1: And then cut to a commercial break. We come back
- 18:11Speaker 1: and he's like, do you know what that looked like?
- 18:14Speaker 1: And then says, let's talk with this door very wide open.
- 18:19Speaker 1: That was so funny. It was I get that, like
- 18:23Speaker 1: a teacher student relationship is not funny, but I just
- 18:26Speaker 1: thought that it was funny. I I yes, knowing that
- 18:29Speaker 1: it's all innocent, it is funny and hot. Damn.
- 18:32Speaker 2: In this scene, I gotta say, Elliott also a wowie's howie.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Oh, welcome to the Club's what's his name? His name
- 18:41Speaker 1: is Evan Williams. Okay, welcome to the club, Evan, And
- 18:46Speaker 1: they danced around her recent time travel there's a do
- 18:49Speaker 1: you know what I know that you know? And they
- 18:51Speaker 1: finally realized that she knows, and then she goes. Alice
- 18:57Speaker 1: has a realization that the her mom's childhood to Alice
- 19:00Speaker 1: is who Alice is named after, and she's like, she
- 19:02Speaker 1: named me after me. Yeah, that's funny. And this is
- 19:06Speaker 1: where my brain twists again, me too, same too, because
- 19:09Speaker 1: Ellie continues to tell like, oh, well, memories and it
- 19:15Speaker 1: was kind of confusing, like the explanation that he told
- 19:18Speaker 1: her on why Cat can't remember Alice.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Yeah, he says, memories are mercurial, your brain remembers what
- 19:27Speaker 2: it needs to remember. Or this is just a convenient
- 19:30Speaker 2: way to explain away time travel and the fact that
- 19:33Speaker 2: she is visiting her own mother.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And during this whole conversation, he says to her, time
- 19:38Speaker 1: travel only works for you, but he doesn't know why.
- 19:41Speaker 1: So is this a clue that Dell is not the
- 19:45Speaker 1: woman in the opening scene of last week's Remember where
- 19:48Speaker 1: there was some theories that maybe Dell was the time
- 19:51Speaker 1: travel or two. But I think it had to have
- 19:55Speaker 1: been Alice in that opening scene back in eighteen what
- 20:00Speaker 1: I originally speculated that it was Alice. Yes, further thinking
- 20:04Speaker 1: I thought it could be Dell.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Some one of these women is potentially the White Witch.
- 20:10Speaker 2: But we also know that when he says time travel
- 20:14Speaker 2: only works for you, we know that he hasn't tested
- 20:16Speaker 2: it with everybody, but he knows that it doesn't work
- 20:18Speaker 2: for him. True, So it's possible that Dell time traveled
- 20:23Speaker 2: and just hasn't shared this information with mister Augustine.
- 20:25Speaker 1: That's true. I don't think we know everything, but we
- 20:28Speaker 1: do know that time while she's gone and time when
- 20:32Speaker 1: she is away they move at the same pace. So
- 20:34Speaker 1: if she's gone for eight hours, she is gone for
- 20:37Speaker 1: eight hours, So she needs to be smart about when
- 20:39Speaker 1: she time travels. Yeah, that's gonna be interesting, right, or
- 20:43Speaker 1: she I'm in the library for the next six hours,
- 20:47Speaker 1: I'll see you later. Like, how is she going to
- 20:49Speaker 1: explain away her where she's at in present day? Right?
- 20:53Speaker 2: And she's she only going to time travel at night
- 20:55Speaker 2: when she should be sleeping.
- 20:56Speaker 1: This is going to be complicated.
- 20:58Speaker 2: And then she tells Ellie that she met Jacob and
- 21:00Speaker 2: you can see in Elliott's face that this affects him.
- 21:04Speaker 2: This is more than just traveling back to meet your
- 21:07Speaker 2: mother to understand her who as she is as a human,
- 21:10Speaker 2: which I think is a really compelling story. You have
- 21:14Speaker 2: an uncle who didn't live past age nine, and you
- 21:17Speaker 2: have a grandfather, and nobody talks about what happened to Jacob,
- 21:20Speaker 2: and nobody talks about what happened to Colton, and there's
- 21:23Speaker 2: a lot of grief wrapped up in those two, so
- 21:27Speaker 2: kind of getting into the thick of it.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Cut back to Cat going through the Jacob box and
- 21:31Speaker 1: she finds a notebook with what is their superhero logo?
- 21:35Speaker 1: Essentially right, I mean, basically she's just having these memories
- 21:40Speaker 1: of Jacob and their life together. But Deale walks in
- 21:43Speaker 1: and Delle doesn't want anything to do with it, and
- 21:46Speaker 1: she tells Kat again she's basically kind of accusatory to Cat,
- 21:51Speaker 1: I believe, which makes me wonder like at this point,
- 21:55Speaker 1: I'm like, did Cat have something to do with him
- 21:58Speaker 1: going missing? Or like, what is the anger with Cat? Well,
- 22:03Speaker 1: in doubt, we do know something a little bit more
- 22:05Speaker 1: about that a little bit later than this episode, right,
- 22:07Speaker 1: But you know, Delle just wants to spend it right
- 22:09Speaker 1: back on Cat. She wants to talk about Cat. She
- 22:11Speaker 1: does not want to talk about Jacob. She doesn't think
- 22:13Speaker 1: Cat is meeting her halfway again. It has been two days.
- 22:15Speaker 1: She doesn't have her life back together, she doesn't have
- 22:17Speaker 1: a job. Give her a minute. Everybody needs to just chill.
- 22:21Speaker 1: But Delle says, if you're gonna be here, might as
- 22:23Speaker 1: well make yourself useful, and then Dell feeds her to
- 22:25Speaker 1: the wolves. Okay, so yes, we see Kat goes to
- 22:29Speaker 1: the point, I believe, and she walks in and she
- 22:32Speaker 1: sees Monica, who is her school rival. Basically lost, there
- 22:37Speaker 1: are we to believe that Monica, the school rival at
- 22:40Speaker 1: the point, is the mom of Spencer at school Alice's friend,
- 22:45Speaker 1: so I.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Don't think this is fully made clear in the episode. However,
- 22:50Speaker 2: on imb their character's last names are both Hill, so
- 22:53Speaker 2: I believe the answer to that question is yes, Monica
- 22:55Speaker 2: is friend Spencer's mother.
- 22:58Speaker 1: And Okay, I have a question. They were friends at
- 23:01Speaker 1: one point, right, they were friends at one point. Now,
- 23:05Speaker 1: in that conversation with Kat, she says that she married
- 23:09Speaker 1: like some dude they used to make fun of. Right,
- 23:11Speaker 1: do you remember that guy's name, Trevor Hill? Okay, and
- 23:16Speaker 1: Kat calls him Spilsky and she's making fun of him,
- 23:18Speaker 1: only to find out in the probably most overused Comedia
- 23:22Speaker 1: troupe of all time. The guy she's making fun of
- 23:24Speaker 1: is Monica's husband. Yeah, I married him, Okay, all right,
- 23:28Speaker 1: So Monica's super bitchy, And basically it looks like Delle
- 23:33Speaker 1: had set up this interview and Kat had walked into
- 23:35Speaker 1: it and did not realize that she was interviewing for
- 23:38Speaker 1: a job at the point. And once she does realize that,
- 23:41Speaker 1: she's like, oh, no, I don't need a job, I
- 23:43Speaker 1: got a book deal. She's obviously lying about because she
- 23:46Speaker 1: didn't want to take that from her ex, so you know,
- 23:49Speaker 1: she just wants to get this chick off her jock
- 23:52Speaker 1: basically says that I have a book deal. Get away.
- 23:56Speaker 1: It struck me because Monica makes a snydermark about Cat
- 23:58Speaker 1: being in a rush to get out of poor and
- 24:00Speaker 1: it feels like, as is often the case, those who
- 24:03Speaker 1: are left behind in a small town made me feel
- 24:06Speaker 1: like those who left felt like they weren't good enough
- 24:08Speaker 1: for them. And I think Monica is getting a little
- 24:10Speaker 1: bit revenge because no Cat's back and the big city
- 24:12Speaker 1: did not work out so well for her. Yeah, but
- 24:15Speaker 1: this is what's so funny, is like, if you came
- 24:18Speaker 1: across somebody that you were high school friends, with would
- 24:20Speaker 1: you be like a super bitch at them, I'd be like, oh,
- 24:22Speaker 1: I guess your life didn't work out. No, you're like
- 24:24Speaker 1: an adult now. You would be empathetic and like, oh, well,
- 24:28Speaker 1: it's nice that you're back, and like, I hope everything's
- 24:30Speaker 1: working out for you. Great. Bye, you know, let's put
- 24:33Speaker 1: it behind us. So the next thing we have, we're
- 24:35Speaker 1: at dinner, at the dinner table at the Landry House.
- 24:39Speaker 1: And to me, Della is a bit softer to Alice Hm.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Cat is angry, and I wrote, she's so angry. If
- 24:48Speaker 1: you guys watch Bravo, and I'm sure you've seen this
- 24:50Speaker 1: scene where Lisa Renna is yelling so angry, You're so angry.
- 24:56Speaker 1: This is what I hear in my head when I'm
- 24:58Speaker 1: watching Cat. I'm like, she's so angry. The woman is
- 25:02Speaker 1: pissed off at everything, every scenario that's happening, like so unhappy.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Well Dale thinks Kat is being too hard on Alice,
- 25:11Speaker 1: grounding her. I am sorry, the girl ran away. Kat
- 25:14Speaker 1: does not know that she time traveled. She just thinks
- 25:17Speaker 1: she ran away.
- 25:17Speaker 2: So she's pissed and she's grounded. That's reasonable to me.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Could you support me a little bit here mom, instead
- 25:23Speaker 2: of being like, come on, kids need to get out
- 25:25Speaker 2: and do things right.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Right. So at the table, Kat tells the family about
- 25:30Speaker 1: the potential book deal she has to write her family
- 25:34Speaker 1: story about Jacob and dal I'm not so happy about it,
- 25:37Speaker 1: not happy about it at all.
- 25:39Speaker 2: And this is the point Alice wants to know what
- 25:42Speaker 2: happened to Jacob and Kat says it's not the right time,
- 25:45Speaker 2: and Alice.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Shoots back, but it's the right time to write a
- 25:49Speaker 1: tell all, Like you can tell the world, but you
- 25:51Speaker 1: can't tell me. Yeah, this is so weird to me
- 25:53Speaker 1: because like I feel if I grew up and had
- 25:57Speaker 1: a younger sibling who died tragically or went missing, I
- 26:02Speaker 1: think my teenage child would probably know about it. Like
- 26:06Speaker 1: I feel like I wouldn't want to keep a secret
- 26:10Speaker 1: like that for so long. No, and she knows he's gone.
- 26:13Speaker 1: So the point at which she's asking about it is
- 26:15Speaker 1: the point you say, yeah, this is the hard conversation
- 26:17Speaker 1: we need to have, not ooh, sh it's a secret.
- 26:20Speaker 1: So Alice, you know, she's fed up with Dell and
- 26:24Speaker 1: Kat like not getting along, and she criticized them, and
- 26:28Speaker 1: she says, what happened to you too? Because you know,
- 26:31Speaker 1: obviously Alice has seen Cat and Dell in nineteen ninety
- 26:36Speaker 1: nine and saw that they got along and it was
- 26:38Speaker 1: a happy family, and she's now asking like, what happened
- 26:41Speaker 1: between you two? And Delle says, that's a damn good question,
- 26:45Speaker 1: and Kat responds, well, I think we know why we
- 26:48Speaker 1: don't get along, and Dell then fires back, but we
- 26:52Speaker 1: don't want the world to know, so don't write that book,
- 26:55Speaker 1: which is weird, Like it is weird? What is all that? A? Also,
- 27:01Speaker 1: I feel like Dell's not taking any ownership for her
- 27:03Speaker 1: part in this because we don't know yet, yes, exactly
- 27:08Speaker 1: why Dell is angry at Cat, although I have my
- 27:11Speaker 1: suspicions later in this episode, but Dell was the parent
- 27:16Speaker 1: in the situation and Kat was also a child in
- 27:19Speaker 1: that situation. Yeah, so at some point Dell needs to
- 27:23Speaker 1: take some responsibility. Yeah, exactly.
- 27:27Speaker 2: We cut to Elliott and Kat having a glass of
- 27:29Speaker 2: wine in the barn and there's a little moment that
- 27:33Speaker 2: Elliott wants to mean something and Kat is just trying
- 27:36Speaker 2: to find some comfort in her old friend. She rests
- 27:39Speaker 2: her head on his shoulder, and Elliott's face is clearly
- 27:43Speaker 2: like ooh, but She tells Elliott she found a photo
- 27:47Speaker 2: of her friend Alice, and she says she now seems
- 27:49Speaker 2: more like an energy than a person to her. Yeah,
- 27:52Speaker 2: because of course her brain's not going to allow her
- 27:54Speaker 2: to remember that this person is exactly like her own daughter.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Right right. She also says during this conversation, she's like,
- 28:02Speaker 1: Alice was there all summer and into the fall, and
- 28:07Speaker 1: so it gives us a little bit of like time
- 28:11Speaker 1: frame that we're working with before Jacob goes missing. Yes,
- 28:16Speaker 1: you know, good point.
- 28:18Speaker 2: The next thing, we see Alice googling Jacob Landry, but we.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Do not get the results of that Google search. You
- 28:25Speaker 1: know that internet doesn't work at their house. It does not,
- 28:28Speaker 1: and that works in Dell's favor, I think. And Alice
- 28:30Speaker 1: gets a phone call and she's still mad. She's still
- 28:34Speaker 1: mad that he hasn't asked her to come home, and
- 28:35Speaker 1: he says she's welcome anytime. And this is kind of
- 28:38Speaker 1: confusing to me, because what is the custody arrangement here,
- 28:41Speaker 1: Like she's just gonna take off. We haven't set up
- 28:43Speaker 1: a plan for when she's gonna come home and visit.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Alice doesn't seem to want to be in the same
- 28:48Speaker 1: house as girlfriend Rachel, and she rushes him off the phone.
- 28:51Speaker 1: It makes me wonder about Rachel, Like Rachel is mentioned
- 28:54Speaker 1: so much, hope, like Rachel was a friend of Kat
- 28:58Speaker 1: or something. I mean, that's obviously a terrible storyline for Kat,
- 29:02Speaker 1: but she's just mentioned so often for a character we've
- 29:07Speaker 1: never seen or know anything about.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Well, I will tell you there is no character named
- 29:12Speaker 2: Rachel listed on the IMDb page for this show, and
- 29:16Speaker 2: there are characters who we have not met yet on
- 29:20Speaker 2: this IMDb page. So leads me to believe we may
- 29:23Speaker 2: not ever meet her.
- 29:25Speaker 1: All right, Well, Alice takes off, She runs back down
- 29:29Speaker 1: to the pond, jumps in, and nothing happens. And I wrote,
- 29:33Speaker 1: could you please wait until your mother goes asleep this time?
- 29:35Speaker 1: Learn from your mistake, you know, because Kat didn't? Katy
- 29:38Speaker 1: like where' she go again? Yeah? Like come on, yeah,
- 29:42Speaker 1: think ahead, you got a plan ahead, Alice. We have
- 29:45Speaker 1: Alice knocking on the door of Elliott's pretty stone house
- 29:48Speaker 1: to ask him why it didn't work, and we find
- 29:50Speaker 1: out the pond works in mysterious ways. So it's not
- 29:54Speaker 1: just whenever you want to time travel, the pond has
- 29:56Speaker 1: to want it to. So here is my noticed in
- 30:00Speaker 1: the nineties and Megan, I don't know if you if
- 30:02Speaker 1: you caught it or not. Okay, okay, So Elliott and
- 30:06Speaker 1: Alice they're talking, right, and he's she's asking him all
- 30:10Speaker 1: the questions, like well, tell me why the pond doesn't work,
- 30:12Speaker 1: and like you're supposed to be my guru or something.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Give a guy a little time to be the Giles
- 30:17Speaker 1: to your Buffy. All right? Oh, nice catch, And Alice
- 30:22Speaker 1: goes the who to my what and elliott response response,
- 30:26Speaker 1: I cry for gen Z. And this is the best
- 30:30Speaker 1: line in the entire show for me because I was
- 30:33Speaker 1: a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, and Giles was
- 30:38Speaker 1: like he was the know all, like that's who she
- 30:42Speaker 1: went to for all the information, just like Alice is
- 30:45Speaker 1: going to Elliott for all the information. I just thought
- 30:48Speaker 1: that was so awesome. And that's a great catch because
- 30:51Speaker 1: we don't really spend any time in the nineties in
- 30:53Speaker 1: this episode, so there's not a lot else to go on.
- 30:56Speaker 1: So that is impressive. Thank you so much. I gotta
- 31:01Speaker 1: say I laughed out loud when I heard it. I'm
- 31:03Speaker 1: so glad. Well, we cut to the next morning in
- 31:06Speaker 1: this episode and Dell hands Alice a box of jars
- 31:09Speaker 1: of honey, and I'm like, well, she's supposed to do
- 31:12Speaker 1: with that. But then we see in the next scene
- 31:14Speaker 1: they're in a farmer's market and I had to tell you,
- 31:17Speaker 1: Dell at the farmers market is not the picture I
- 31:19Speaker 1: had of this woman, who so far has been angry
- 31:22Speaker 1: and crabby. M hmm. Totally a different person, right, totally
- 31:26Speaker 1: different person. We see her friend Rita sells beechy Chotchki's
- 31:29Speaker 1: wooden beach signs like beach this way and Sandy To's
- 31:33Speaker 1: full Heart.
- 31:34Speaker 2: All you need to know is wooden beach signs. And
- 31:35Speaker 2: I think everybody can conjure up in their mind what
- 31:39Speaker 2: she sells, and honestly, it's the perfect characterization for her
- 31:43Speaker 2: in my mind, like who she is.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I love it. We also meet Byron at this point,
- 31:48Speaker 1: and Delle's quite flirty with him, and Alice recognizes it.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Byron is the local newspaper archive guy. Yeah, and that's
- 31:59Speaker 1: all we had about Byron so far, so far. Yeah,
- 32:03Speaker 1: I said, Byron's a little bit of a silver fox.
- 32:05Speaker 1: And we get a flashback. We see Dell kind of
- 32:09Speaker 1: touching her hair and Alice has a flashback of Dell
- 32:12Speaker 1: in that moment doing the same thing at the dinner table,
- 32:15Speaker 1: looking at Colton. So in case we weren't totally clear
- 32:18Speaker 1: that this man might be a potential love interest of Dell's,
- 32:21Speaker 1: now we know. We also find out something a little
- 32:24Speaker 1: bit about the community here. Rita teases a Byron that
- 32:28Speaker 1: he's a newcomer, and he's like, I've lived here for
- 32:30Speaker 1: six years. So this is a community that is rooted
- 32:33Speaker 1: in its roots. You're still a newbie even though you've
- 32:36Speaker 1: lived there almost a decade, yes, right, right, right.
- 32:41Speaker 2: We have Kat going into Alice's bedroom. Dell has left
- 32:44Speaker 2: her a note, but you know, Kat's kind of having
- 32:48Speaker 2: a moment. She opens up the Alice in Wonderland book.
- 32:50Speaker 2: There's a line that's a little reminiscent of.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Time travel in there, and you know, I Ket just
- 32:57Speaker 1: seems a little bit lost, like what am I supposed
- 32:59Speaker 1: to do with this kid? She sees the note from Dell,
- 33:01Speaker 1: and now she's off to the races and pissed again. Okay,
- 33:04Speaker 1: so let me stop you there. The note. I don't
- 33:08Speaker 1: know if you noticed, but it is on the same
- 33:10Speaker 1: paper and has the same handwriting as the letter that
- 33:13Speaker 1: Cat received. Well, Dell says she wrote the letter. Later on,
- 33:18Speaker 1: we get that she just didn't send it. Okay, Well,
- 33:22Speaker 1: this is like a continuity issue for me, Like that
- 33:25Speaker 1: does not look like something a fifteen year old would
- 33:28Speaker 1: have written. No, I thought the note was signed from Dell.
- 33:32Speaker 1: I know, I think it was from Alice. Oh, you're right,
- 33:36Speaker 1: it's signed Alice. Okay, I take it back, But I
- 33:39Speaker 1: feel like the whole the writing and everything looks like
- 33:42Speaker 1: the the letter that was sent to Cat. But maybe
- 33:46Speaker 1: it doesn't. They needed to have two separate PA's write
- 33:49Speaker 1: these letters. Perhaps perhaps Okay, Again, Cat's pissed that Alice
- 33:54Speaker 1: is in this park because we have flashbacks to Cat
- 33:58Speaker 1: and her father handing out flyers looking for Jacob in
- 34:01Speaker 1: this very same park. Now, Kat, you came home.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Are you going to avoid every place that has a memory.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Of your missing brother for you? I'm not really sure
- 34:10Speaker 1: that this farmer's market in broad daylight is a terrible
- 34:13Speaker 1: place to take her, right. I know, it's so weird
- 34:15Speaker 1: to me because like she's pissed about certain things. Delle's
- 34:19Speaker 1: pissed about certain things like can you too please get
- 34:22Speaker 1: into a therapist's office asap? Because right, everybody need is
- 34:26Speaker 1: to work out. Yeah, like Alice is the most well
- 34:28Speaker 1: adjusted of all of you. Seriously, Rita says they all
- 34:32Speaker 1: need closure. Alice asked what happens? Rita won't tell her.
- 34:35Speaker 1: Then shut up, Rita like, don't stop stepping in, Rita, Yeah,
- 34:41Speaker 1: nobody needs you. Yeah. Agree, And we are still arguing
- 34:46Speaker 1: about the origins of the letter here. Yeah, exactly all right.
- 34:50Speaker 1: So in the next scene, Alice takes off and she's
- 34:54Speaker 1: got she has this bright idea that she's gonna look
- 34:56Speaker 1: in the newspaper archive and I'm gonna tell you, my
- 35:00Speaker 1: fifteen year old but not know how to work a microfiche.
- 35:03Speaker 1: I don't know how Alice figures it out to look
- 35:06Speaker 1: through all these newspapers totally.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Also like we haven't digitized our nineteen ninety nine newspaper,
- 35:13Speaker 2: Like they're.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Still on microfich. I don't know. Is that still how
- 35:15Speaker 1: newspapers are archived? I don't know, but I agree, my
- 35:19Speaker 1: fifteen year old'll be like, is not on Google? Doesn't
- 35:21Speaker 1: exist exactly? And then like kind of at the same time,
- 35:25Speaker 1: we see Cat shows up at the cemetery and she
- 35:29Speaker 1: sees Danny, who's a groundskeeper, and I'm like, who's Danny? Like,
- 35:34Speaker 1: why are we introducing Danny here? She knows Danny from
- 35:38Speaker 1: her past, but we don't know anything about him. We
- 35:41Speaker 1: don't find anything out about Danny, but I will tell
- 35:43Speaker 1: you he's played by Pace and Rock And there is
- 35:46Speaker 1: an actor named Bathan Hoffman on IMDb who plays young Danny.
- 35:50Speaker 1: So we apparently are going to meet Danny in the
- 35:52Speaker 1: past as well. Awesome. I thought Danny might be a
- 35:56Speaker 1: friend of Jacob's. Oh interest speculation? Oh interesting, because I
- 36:04Speaker 1: think I thought Danny looked like the groundskeeper. But was
- 36:06Speaker 1: Danny putting the flowers on the grave?
- 36:10Speaker 2: Well, he was certainly having a moment at the grave.
- 36:12Speaker 2: It seemed like what we find out later in this scene.
- 36:16Speaker 2: And the age of the actor who plays young Danny again,
- 36:19Speaker 2: all of this leaves me to believe we're dealing with
- 36:22Speaker 2: a childhood friend of Jacob's.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Got it, got it, good catch, m good catch. Yes.
- 36:27Speaker 1: In this scene, Kat's talking to her her dad's gravesite,
- 36:31Speaker 1: but then like moves the flowers and sees that now
- 36:33Speaker 1: her brother's name is on the tombstone with her dad's name,
- 36:38Speaker 1: and she realizes that her mom has legally declared Jacob dead. Okay,
- 36:45Speaker 1: I have a question for you. Yeah, she's pissed. It's
- 36:49Speaker 1: been twenty years.
- 36:50Speaker 2: Is it reasonable to bring some closure to this moment?
- 36:54Speaker 1: I feel like it is. I agree with you. I
- 36:58Speaker 1: agree with you that the healthy move on Dell's part,
- 37:01Speaker 1: and it's not saying I've given up hope for my son,
- 37:04Speaker 1: but at some point we need to celebrate his life. HM. Exactly, exactly, Okay, thanks, Okay.
- 37:11Speaker 2: We cut back to Alice looking at the microfusion. There's
- 37:15Speaker 2: a newspaper article that says, basically, the kat was there
- 37:19Speaker 2: with Jacob.
- 37:20Speaker 1: He was there one minute and gone the next. Now,
- 37:24Speaker 1: I tell you, I paused my TV and read the
- 37:28Speaker 1: entire article. I took a photo of it as well,
- 37:32Speaker 1: because the first, the first newspaper article she's looking at,
- 37:36Speaker 1: it's a photo of Jacob and a Ferris wheel and
- 37:38Speaker 1: it says, you know, like local bowl boy goes missing,
- 37:41Speaker 1: Please have no leads. And then to the next image
- 37:44Speaker 1: she goes to you, it's like a full article. Now,
- 37:47Speaker 1: did you read the article just that line that I
- 37:50Speaker 1: read to you? No? I didn't. Okay. So it goes
- 37:53Speaker 1: on to talk about two twins. Now, I'm like, was
- 37:58Speaker 1: this just filler in this article for TV? Purposes to
- 38:03Speaker 1: look because I'm like, well, how did these two things
- 38:06Speaker 1: go together? I don't understand, but they have. They also
- 38:11Speaker 1: have an interview with the police detective who talks about
- 38:15Speaker 1: how nobody has gone missing in Port Haven since the sixties.
- 38:20Speaker 1: And yeah, it's very interesting. It brings up lots of questions.
- 38:24Speaker 1: So I say, if you are looking for a rewatch,
- 38:28Speaker 1: pause your big ass TV on this scene here and
- 38:32Speaker 1: read this article and let's talk about it, okay. And
- 38:35Speaker 1: this is the moment that leads me to believe that
- 38:38Speaker 1: all of Dell's anger at Cat is a perhaps placing
- 38:42Speaker 1: blame on Cat for Jacob's disappearance. Whether she's doing it
- 38:46Speaker 1: intentionally or not, she's blamed Cat, yes, and think about
- 38:50Speaker 1: the guilt that Cat has been carrying around for twenty
- 38:53Speaker 1: years about this, you know, And then to have Dell
- 38:55Speaker 1: pile it on even more is like whoa And this
- 38:58Speaker 1: is a lot.
- 38:59Speaker 2: I think Elle needs to take some responsibility here because again,
- 39:02Speaker 2: Kat was a child.
- 39:03Speaker 1: Yes, she was fifteen years old. Yes she was perhaps
- 39:05Speaker 1: responsible for Jacob in that moment, we don't know, But
- 39:08Speaker 1: again she was a child and is carrying the weight
- 39:12Speaker 1: of that herself, as you said, and somebody needs to
- 39:15Speaker 1: relieve her of this weight and this burden, because there's
- 39:20Speaker 1: a lot we don't know, but I think we do
- 39:22Speaker 1: know that Kat wasn't directly responsible for the disappearance of
- 39:25Speaker 1: her brother. Dell then shows up at the newspaper and
- 39:28Speaker 1: she says that it's.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Time to go, and Dell is not going to be
- 39:31Speaker 2: doing the hair touch for Byron anytime soon.
- 39:33Speaker 1: I well, why, I think Byron did her a solid
- 39:37Speaker 1: to tell her that she was there, that Alice was
- 39:40Speaker 1: there looking at that way. You think that he was
- 39:41Speaker 1: the one who told her. Oh yeah, I think so. Ah, Okay,
- 39:45Speaker 1: I definitely think so. But again, it's like, what is
- 39:48Speaker 1: the big friggin secret? Like, right, let Alice discover what
- 39:52Speaker 1: the hell happened? Like, why are we keeping her in
- 39:55Speaker 1: the dark? Yeah, she's fifteen years old, geez, let's please
- 39:59Speaker 1: somebody act like a I'm finding myself a little frustrated
- 40:03Speaker 1: with that part of the storyline.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Well, yeah, it is frustrating. It is silly to think
- 40:08Speaker 2: that you're going to bring this girl back home and
- 40:11Speaker 2: not have her ask questions and think you can put
- 40:13Speaker 2: off her questions for eternity.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, it's weird.
- 40:18Speaker 2: Dell and Alice drive home. Alice apologizes, and Dell pulls
- 40:23Speaker 2: up alongside the previously mentioned White Cross.
- 40:27Speaker 1: That mark's where Colton died in a car accident. We
- 40:30Speaker 1: come to find out three months after Jacob disappeared, and
- 40:35Speaker 1: here comes another win of a line from Alice for me.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Delle says she lost her whole world in that moment,
- 40:42Speaker 2: and Alice says.
- 40:43Speaker 1: Your whole world except for my mom. Again, get your
- 40:47Speaker 1: shit together, Dell, you have another child. Yeah, yeah, it's complicated, man,
- 40:54Speaker 1: That's what this show should have been called. It's complicated.
- 40:56Speaker 1: So now we have Alice at home, Dell and Cat
- 40:59Speaker 1: are arguing about Dell declaring Jacob dead, and Delle says
- 41:05Speaker 1: that finally she wrote the letter that was never unclear
- 41:10Speaker 1: to me. I always knew she wrote it, She just
- 41:12Speaker 1: claimed she didn't send it. Okay, So who sent the
- 41:14Speaker 1: freaking letter? Then we don't know. It's an untry, another
- 41:18Speaker 1: another storyline that to me could have been buttoned up
- 41:21Speaker 1: by now unless there's bigger ramifications. Right exactly exactly? But
- 41:27Speaker 1: am I to believe that she wrote the letter because
- 41:30Speaker 1: there was an upcoming memorial for Jacob and she wanted
- 41:34Speaker 1: Kat to be there. She says, this is why I
- 41:36Speaker 1: wrote the letter to you, So yes, I believe that
- 41:41Speaker 1: is what we are to believe in that moment, and
- 41:42Speaker 1: that's when she tells Kat that there is a memorial
- 41:46Speaker 1: for Jacob tomorrow. And Cat's pissed about the memorial because
- 41:50Speaker 1: it will come on celebrate your brother's life. I know.
- 41:53Speaker 1: There's just so many like weird things here because at
- 41:57Speaker 1: some point, Dell's very much like does not want to
- 42:00Speaker 1: open the book to talking about Jacob, but I want
- 42:05Speaker 1: to have a memorial for him, which is counter to
- 42:11Speaker 1: what it is. Yeah, it's just is sad. What's happening?
- 42:15Speaker 2: Yeah, Dell's mad that Cat hasn't been there, but Kat says,
- 42:18Speaker 2: Dell wouldn't let her be there. Look, Dell, you again,
- 42:21Speaker 2: everybody needs therapy here. Why would Cat come home when
- 42:25Speaker 2: this is what she would be coming home too, Yeah, exactly,
- 42:29Speaker 2: and she begs Kat leave it alone and let her
- 42:32Speaker 2: close the book.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Y'all we need some resolution in this show. Yeah, at
- 42:37Speaker 1: least with this part, right, Yes, Elliot finds Kat in
- 42:42Speaker 1: the barn that apparently has killer cell signal, which okay,
- 42:45Speaker 1: and they talk about Jacob's memorial and Elliott is the
- 42:50Speaker 1: voice of reason here saying, you know, you got your
- 42:52Speaker 1: fresh start, doesn't your mom deserve one? Right, however, so
- 42:57Speaker 1: Kat got her fresh start because she bounced. Yeah, And
- 43:03Speaker 1: in here we found out that Elliott was once married
- 43:06Speaker 1: as well. Well we knew that in the first episode.
- 43:09Speaker 1: Oh because Dell's oh divorce. Yeah, that's right, that's right.
- 43:14Speaker 1: He like he started back over, he has his fresh
- 43:17Speaker 1: start coming back to Porthaven. Is that right? I thought
- 43:20Speaker 1: that's that's what was mentioned. He said, like, my I
- 43:23Speaker 1: had never really left. I had one foot in whatever.
- 43:27Speaker 1: I was always coming back. Yeah, exactly, Well, he was
- 43:30Speaker 1: always coming back because he knew Alice was going to
- 43:32Speaker 1: be coming back, right indeed, And that's a great point.
- 43:36Speaker 1: That's a great point. He knew we had to come back.
- 43:38Speaker 1: But you know, this is where it all gets kind
- 43:40Speaker 1: of muddy, because we flashed back to the first episode
- 43:43Speaker 1: where Elliott sees adult Elliott sees teenage Alice for the
- 43:47Speaker 1: first time, and he has kind of a reaction. And
- 43:50Speaker 1: I wonder if he didn't know obviously because it hadn't
- 43:54Speaker 1: happened yet when he was going to meet her for
- 43:56Speaker 1: the first time. So was he always trying to get
- 43:59Speaker 1: back knowing that at some point in the future he
- 44:03Speaker 1: was going to be needed, or did Alice clue him
- 44:06Speaker 1: in at some point to when he would be needed,
- 44:09Speaker 1: see what I'm saying, Like, yeah, I did see what
- 44:11Speaker 1: you're saying. I gotta get back because Alice is coming,
- 44:13Speaker 1: but I don't know when Alice is coming or did
- 44:16Speaker 1: he kind of know? Okay, well she's fifteen, so it's
- 44:18Speaker 1: got to be happening soon. Yeah, a lot of good questions,
- 44:22Speaker 1: and we learned that which we kind of already knew.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Kat is mostly upset because she wasn't able to protect Jacob.
- 44:28Speaker 1: It was not just about his disappearance because but she
- 44:31Speaker 1: feels responsible.
- 44:32Speaker 2: She tells us h yeah, right. Kat finds Alice in
- 44:36Speaker 2: the kitchen. Alice knows about the memorial, and Alice says,
- 44:40Speaker 2: I want to stay. Thanks for being willing to leave, mom,
- 44:43Speaker 2: But let's try this for more than forty eight hours.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, exactly. So we next see Dall's putting on
- 44:50Speaker 1: her wedding ring. She's remembering moments with Jacob. She's obviously pained.
- 44:56Speaker 1: She looks very unhappy or I mean not unhappy, but
- 45:00Speaker 1: she's grieving. Right, So we have Alice on the couch
- 45:03Speaker 1: The next morning. Cat approaches and it's clear that they're
- 45:07Speaker 1: dressed for memorial, heading out for that, and Alice has
- 45:11Speaker 1: found the Landry family Almanac. Cat tells her, you know,
- 45:14Speaker 1: that's where our history is recorded. Mm hm, which is
- 45:18Speaker 1: kind of cool. It is cool. I don't have anything
- 45:22Speaker 1: like that. That's kind of and you know, considering how
- 45:25Speaker 1: old it is, it's just sitting there on the table
- 45:28Speaker 1: like the daveil. That's what I was gonna say. It's
- 45:31Speaker 1: like the veil that doesn't crumble. Yeah. Yeah, it's in
- 45:35Speaker 1: remarkably good condition for being hundreds of years old. M hm.
- 45:39Speaker 1: So we get to Jacob's memorial. There's just five of them.
- 45:43Speaker 1: I was expecting more townspeople, I guess or something. And
- 45:47Speaker 1: we get some background actors. These people have lived here
- 45:49Speaker 1: forever something. It's Rita and and Elliott and yeah, and
- 45:55Speaker 1: a blue balloon and a balloon and I thought, listener,
- 45:59Speaker 1: Michelle is losing her damn mind if they're gonna put
- 46:01Speaker 1: this balloon into the sky, right, Yeah, the environmental implications
- 46:05Speaker 1: of a balloon release are no good. But we never
- 46:08Speaker 1: really it did go up, but like we never did
- 46:10Speaker 1: see it like fly away like far so hopefully it
- 46:14Speaker 1: was just a stunt, you know, and it's raining because
- 46:17Speaker 1: of course, oh sorry, And that's the other thing. Do
- 46:20Speaker 1: balloons Will they fly away if it's raining. I don't
- 46:23Speaker 1: think so. I think they hover around the ground because
- 46:26Speaker 1: the brain is coming down on them. Right, great question,
- 46:29Speaker 1: great question. I don't know. This whole scene was like
- 46:33Speaker 1: really emotional. I thought, like Delle talking about her boy
- 46:37Speaker 1: and how he was just full of love, and I
- 46:40Speaker 1: thought that I was very sad for her.
- 46:43Speaker 2: I was very sad for her too, And I had
- 46:44Speaker 2: another shut up Rita moment, like this was not.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Her time to speak. I would Rita say, I don't remember.
- 46:50Speaker 1: I don't even remember. But the only two people who
- 46:52Speaker 1: speak at the memorial are Dell and Rita. It's not
- 46:56Speaker 1: your turn, Rita, Rita. No. Delle says she wants to
- 47:01Speaker 1: remember Jacob in love rather than in fear. But Dell,
- 47:04Speaker 1: you cannot remember your son in love if you refuse
- 47:07Speaker 1: to talk about him, right right. This episode really had
- 47:12Speaker 1: me frustrated at some things, very frustrated. Next thing, we
- 47:16Speaker 1: have Cat telling Brady she can't do the book deal,
- 47:18Speaker 1: it's not the time. It's a sweet moment. They have
- 47:22Speaker 1: had a little bit of a breakthrough.
- 47:23Speaker 2: With Cat and Alice. Alice is having a childhood moment,
- 47:27Speaker 2: running around.
- 47:28Speaker 1: With the dog. Everyone's doing all right, And then Alice
- 47:32Speaker 1: goes back to the pond and Elliott's there, and she
- 47:35Speaker 1: wants to go back, specifically to see Jacob. She realizes
- 47:38Speaker 1: she doesn't have a lot of time and she needs
- 47:40Speaker 1: to see him right, so she jumps on in, and
- 47:44Speaker 1: this time the pond accepts her, and we cut to
- 47:47Speaker 1: Cat and Dell in the Driftwood in Shells living room
- 47:51Speaker 1: Driftwood in Shells, the airbn b Airbnb of Port Haven.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Dell can't bring herself to put Jacob's death in the almanac.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Kat offers to do it for her, dating it October twenty.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Ninth, nineteen ninety nine, right, which I assumes.
- 48:07Speaker 1: The date of his disappearance, right. And this is the
- 48:11Speaker 1: only scene between Cat and Dell where they are tender
- 48:15Speaker 1: with each other. Yeah, finally, Yeah, I hope, I hope
- 48:20Speaker 1: we're headed towards that way, But I don't know. Yeah,
- 48:24Speaker 1: some of the previous seem like we are not headed
- 48:26Speaker 1: that way. Yeah, exactly. But we do get a.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Little bit more of a peek into Dell's true persona
- 48:31Speaker 2: because in her bedroom, she pulls Jacob's Teddy Bear out
- 48:35Speaker 2: from under her pillow. So as frustrated as she is
- 48:37Speaker 2: with Kat for revisiting those memories, she's got some of
- 48:40Speaker 2: her own.
- 48:41Speaker 1: Mm hmmm. That was kind of a heartbreaking scene.
- 48:44Speaker 2: And the episode closes with Alice finding young Cat and
- 48:47Speaker 2: Jacob and of course she's wet again.
- 48:50Speaker 1: Did you fall in the pond again? How we got
- 48:53Speaker 1: to figure something out here? How are we gonna begether?
- 48:55Speaker 1: That's gonna raise too many questions. She gets invited to
- 48:59Speaker 1: dinner and scene, yes, that was sweet that they're like
- 49:03Speaker 1: running through the thing with Jacob and Cat. And the
- 49:07Speaker 1: show ends with a song called Flyaway by Distant Cousins,
- 49:12Speaker 1: and we do get a preview of next week's and
- 49:14Speaker 1: we see Cat seeing Alice jump in and freaking out.
- 49:18Speaker 1: So it was kind of figure out what's going on
- 49:20Speaker 1: because she's not going to resurface. So who's the homie
- 49:22Speaker 1: of the week? I think the homie of the week
- 49:24Speaker 1: this week.
- 49:24Speaker 2: Goes to Alice because she calls everyone on their shit.
- 49:28Speaker 2: She is tired of her mom and Dell, what happened
- 49:30Speaker 2: to you? She's angry at Dele when she suggests she
- 49:33Speaker 2: lost her whole world when she lost her husband and
- 49:37Speaker 2: son while essentially cutting off her relationship with her daughter.
- 49:43Speaker 2: They won't give her answers. She's gonna find answers.
- 49:45Speaker 1: Alice. Alice is my homie of the week. You Go, Alice,
- 49:48Speaker 1: You go Alice?
- 49:50Speaker 2: All right, everybody, thank you for listening to our episode
