- 0:00Speaker 1: Kevin grane Are UK europe correspondent Gavin Goods, Morning, good
- 0:03Speaker 1: evening to you, hither Rod. Yeah, it's certainly going to
- 0:07Speaker 1: be an important meeting. It's the first Trump NATO summit
- 0:10Speaker 1: since twenty nineteen, and he's going to be delighted, I
- 0:13Speaker 1: think with what he sees because it looks like all
- 0:16Speaker 1: thirty two leaders are set to commit to spending five
- 0:19Speaker 1: percent of national output on defense and related infrastructure. At
- 0:22Speaker 1: least that is the hope, because there are some that
- 0:25Speaker 1: are going to really try and wriggle out of this.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Spain incidentally one of them. Spain spends very little of
- 0:30Speaker 1: its gross domestic product. It's at the bottom of the
- 0:34Speaker 1: list when it comes to defense spending, and it's trying
- 0:37Speaker 1: to wiggle out, saying, well, it can't afford it. It'll
- 0:39Speaker 1: have to cut back on pensions and benefits as well.
- 0:43Speaker 1: But there's definitely pressure on Spain to get back in there,
- 0:45Speaker 1: and Belgium too, apparently sharing some wriggle room with that,
- 0:49Speaker 1: but also ringing Donald Trump's is or well not quite
- 0:52Speaker 1: because it was posted by Donald Trump is a private
- 0:56Speaker 1: message that the NATO Secretary General Mark Rutter has sent
- 0:59Speaker 1: him in a pre summit message lavishing praise on his
- 1:03Speaker 1: handling of the Western Alliance, and it says, and I quote,
- 1:05Speaker 1: you're flying into another big success in the Hague this evening.
- 1:08Speaker 1: It was not easy, but we got them all signed
- 1:11Speaker 1: up to five percent. He's congratulated Trump on his quote
- 1:14Speaker 1: decisive action in Iran that was truly extraordinary in something
- 1:17Speaker 1: no one else dared to do. It makes us safer.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Asked whether he was embarrassed at this private message had
- 1:23Speaker 1: been made public, he said not at all. Other people
- 1:26Speaker 1: will be deeply embarrassed. I mean, you've got if you're
- 1:30Speaker 1: going to send the ticks to Donald Trump, you've got
- 1:32Speaker 1: to expect that it's gonna end up or potentially end
- 1:35Speaker 1: up on the public domain, don't you. So you can't
- 1:37Speaker 1: be too surprised. Hey, I love the story the Cinderella
- 1:40Speaker 1: krocking in the UK. Yeah, an amazing story. This so
- 1:45Speaker 1: a man who was basically riding on an e bike
- 1:50Speaker 1: suddenly snatched the phone out of somebody's hand in East
- 1:55Speaker 1: London on l like Gate Hill back in August of
- 1:57Speaker 1: last year. Now he was tackled by members of the public,
- 2:01Speaker 1: having stolen the handset from the victim's hand and in
- 2:04Speaker 1: the struggle to get back on the bike, this man,
- 2:07Speaker 1: a twenty eight year old, lost a trainer one of
- 2:10Speaker 1: his shoes. Now he continued, however, wearing one shoe and
- 2:14Speaker 1: managed to get away. However, yes, you guessed it. DNA
- 2:18Speaker 1: analysis now looked at the single shoe, the so called
- 2:22Speaker 1: Cinderella shoe, and matched the DNA on it. They found
- 2:26Speaker 1: there was just enough DNA on the shoe. Found there
- 2:29Speaker 1: was just enough to match it to an existing profile
- 2:32Speaker 1: of a thief on the national database. And a twenty
- 2:35Speaker 1: eight year old man has now been found guilty of
- 2:40Speaker 1: that and he's now going to be sentenced in a
- 2:42Speaker 1: couple of months time. The forensic manager of the City
- 2:46Speaker 1: of London Police said, this really is a Cinderella story.
- 2:49Speaker 1: This slipper fitted our Cinderella and we produced a hit
- 2:53Speaker 1: to a man who has profile had previously been up
- 2:56Speaker 1: deloaded with those in criminal acts. Good good, it's good
- 3:01Speaker 1: to hear that one of them is finally being caught.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Thanks so much for that. Kevin Grant, UK europe Correspondent.
