- 0:09Speaker 1: What's up, everybody?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome back to another episode of Bucco Territory, presented to
- 0:13Speaker 2: you by the Foul Territory Network.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Noah Hiles. Joining me as always are my co host.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Josh Harrison and Platinum Key aka Market's a mail bag Wednesday.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Rather than answering some questions, Uh, where are you guys there?
- 0:25Speaker 1: I was scared. I thought I thought I was deserted.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Rather than answering some questions on this mail bag Wednesday,
- 0:33Speaker 2: we asked you guys for some potential trade ideas. Truth
- 0:37Speaker 2: be told, they got a little out of.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Whack, so we're just.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 0:43Speaker 1: It turns out being a GM is hard.
- 0:45Speaker 2: And I will just say this, it's very difficult to
- 0:48Speaker 2: propose a two way trade unless you really know what
- 0:55Speaker 2: that organization is looking for. And I mean it's easy
- 0:59Speaker 2: to do like a big, small trade, right Like, if
- 1:01Speaker 2: I were to be like, all right, say the Pirates
- 1:03Speaker 2: and the Red Sox want to make a trade, I
- 1:06Speaker 2: can go on Savant or Baseball Reference or fan Grafts
- 1:11Speaker 2: and see what the major league team in Boston needs.
- 1:15Speaker 2: But we don't know what they're looking to add depth
- 1:18Speaker 2: wise at the low levels of their minor league system.
- 1:21Speaker 2: We don't know how they feel about some of the
- 1:23Speaker 2: guys they're going to be drafting. Yeah, right, Yeah, so
- 1:28Speaker 2: it's it's very difficult to just suggest.
- 1:32Speaker 1: And you know, I.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Mean most fans like you, you know, minor leaguers in
- 1:36Speaker 2: this system who people like me right about right, you know,
- 1:39Speaker 2: people in the top thirty, you know, people.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Who were drafted recently.
- 1:43Speaker 2: That's it, Like you don't necessarily know some of the
- 1:47Speaker 2: guys who will probably be dealt. And so rather than
- 1:50Speaker 2: doing that, and we're not trying to talk down on anyone,
- 1:52Speaker 2: it's just more just kind of got a little athodic
- 1:55Speaker 2: and maybe too convoluted. So rather than doing that, we're
- 1:58Speaker 2: each going to bring two potential trade targets to the table.
- 2:02Speaker 2: And that actually might just be what we do every
- 2:04Speaker 2: mail bag Wednesday from here until the trade deadline. I
- 2:08Speaker 2: think maybe we can switch it up here and then,
- 2:10Speaker 2: but like I feel like this is what people want
- 2:13Speaker 2: to hear. So we're yeah, we're each gonn in two
- 2:17Speaker 2: personal targets that we have so six every show, and
- 2:21Speaker 2: these are just people to keep an eye on and
- 2:22Speaker 2: we'll try to speculate, you know, what they might cost,
- 2:26Speaker 2: not specifically with players in mind.
- 2:29Speaker 1: And then also how we think they could benefit the team.
- 2:32Speaker 2: So we're gonna we're gonna start off with Mark, Mark
- 2:34Speaker 2: giving us his first two, and then we will go
- 2:36Speaker 2: from there. So, Mark, without further ado, your first Pirates
- 2:40Speaker 2: trade target. Who are you looking at?
- 2:41Speaker 1: All?
- 2:41Speaker 3: Right, I'm gonna start with an obvious one here, a
- 2:44Speaker 3: role as Chapman. Old friend. Pirates traded him to the
- 2:48Speaker 3: Rangers in twenty twenty three. He's been dealt a couple
- 2:51Speaker 3: times at the deadline in the past, both in twenty
- 2:55Speaker 3: sixteen and twenty twenty three, and he went to two
- 2:57Speaker 3: World Series winners. So he's thirty eight. The fastball velocity
- 3:03Speaker 3: is finally starting to show a little dip. It's only
- 3:06Speaker 3: averaging I think like ninety eight point seven right now
- 3:08Speaker 3: or something around there. So it's not exactly like the
- 3:12Speaker 3: same velo that he had when he was with the Pirates.
- 3:17Speaker 3: But the results this year have been pretty good. Barring
- 3:20Speaker 3: his last couple outings, he had an ERA below one
- 3:24Speaker 3: for most of this year. I think it's up to
- 3:25Speaker 3: two point oh two now. But that's we know what
- 3:29Speaker 3: you're getting with a rolled as Chatman, and that you
- 3:32Speaker 3: can put him in the back of this bullpen and
- 3:34Speaker 3: feel a lot more confident. He obviously has had issues
- 3:38Speaker 3: in the past with command. Since he's joined the Red Sox,
- 3:42Speaker 3: he's looked a lot better at with his command and
- 3:45Speaker 3: you've seen the results follow So he's had some a
- 3:47Speaker 3: couple dominant seasons and I think that that would be
- 3:51Speaker 3: a perfect piece where the Pirates know what they're getting.
- 3:54Speaker 3: He's comfortable, he knows the city, he knows the stadium.
- 3:58Speaker 3: I think the fan base would love to see him
- 4:00Speaker 3: welcome back with open arms. As far as cost goes,
- 4:04Speaker 3: he is thirty eight. He has a thirteen point seven
- 4:07Speaker 3: million dollar contract this year, with a thirteen million mutual
- 4:11Speaker 3: option next year. It seems like most sources expect him
- 4:15Speaker 3: to decline that and go to free agency again. So
- 4:18Speaker 3: this is probably a rental, but again that's a maybe rental.
- 4:24Speaker 3: So yeah, the cost is, I don't know how much
- 4:28Speaker 3: you want to give up. It's going to be a
- 4:29Speaker 3: really competitive market for him, everyone for him. Yeah, I
- 4:32Speaker 3: think there's going to be a lot of teams calling
- 4:35Speaker 3: the Red Sox saying we'll offer you this, and then
- 4:38Speaker 3: I think the Red Sox would be like, well, we
- 4:40Speaker 3: have better offers. So I think the Pirates would really
- 4:43Speaker 3: have to pay up compared to what they could probably
- 4:46Speaker 3: get other relief options for, especially with that veteran presence.
- 4:50Speaker 3: But you can't beat the playoff result. So if you're
- 4:53Speaker 3: in a playoff race, I think a role is Chatman
- 4:55Speaker 3: makes a ton of sense.
- 4:58Speaker 2: My only thing against it is the fact that he's
- 5:02Speaker 2: a left team and I know that Chapman is a
- 5:05Speaker 2: guy that you don't have to just pitch against left handers.
- 5:08Speaker 2: But it's like, if I'm gonna pay what I'm gonna
- 5:12Speaker 2: pay to get an a roll to Chapman, because one
- 5:15Speaker 2: that's the guy who doesn't get traded until the final
- 5:17Speaker 2: three days of the den, Like you hang on to
- 5:20Speaker 2: him and you drive that stock all the way up
- 5:23Speaker 2: until you can get somebody. And he's probably the highest
- 5:27Speaker 2: profile or reliever that will be traded this deadline. I
- 5:30Speaker 2: don't know if he's the best reliever that will get
- 5:31Speaker 2: traded in the deadline, but he's definitely the most known,
- 5:34Speaker 2: especially in this town because he played here and everything
- 5:36Speaker 2: and played against the Pirates for so long.
- 5:39Speaker 1: But yeah, it's the left handed thing for me.
- 5:41Speaker 2: It's his salaries is high, and I don't know how
- 5:45Speaker 2: much money the Pirates can take on the books, but
- 5:48Speaker 2: I mean overall, yeah, like, does an eroldist Chapman make
- 5:51Speaker 2: this bullpen better?
- 5:52Speaker 1: Absolutely? But can you find another guy who can provide
- 5:56Speaker 1: similar impact, maybe more in different ways, for a lesser
- 6:00Speaker 1: price tag. I think you can. So. I don't hate it.
- 6:05Speaker 4: I don't.
- 6:06Speaker 1: I don't love it. I like it.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I think it's great. But I wouldn't I wouldn't sell
- 6:12Speaker 2: the farm. I wouldn't probably go as far as other
- 6:14Speaker 2: teams would for roast Chapman deadline, Josh.
- 6:20Speaker 4: I mean I don't disagree with either take.
- 6:22Speaker 5: Obviously, Noah, as you said, price tag may be a
- 6:26Speaker 5: little too high for what you know you may really
- 6:29Speaker 5: want to consider. But Mark, on the other flip side,
- 6:32Speaker 5: talk the familiarity. Guys love going back to places that
- 6:35Speaker 5: they may have played, and then the other thing of
- 6:39Speaker 5: you know, just what this season is kind of transpired.
- 6:42Speaker 4: With the energy around it.
- 6:43Speaker 5: You know, if you were to get a Chapman, that
- 6:45Speaker 5: would be telling you that obviously there are a lot
- 6:48Speaker 5: more serious than some people may take them or you know,
- 6:51Speaker 5: believe them to be at this time. But at the
- 6:53Speaker 5: same time, the hefty price tag, especially given what they've already.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Spent at the beginning of the year.
- 7:00Speaker 5: I just you know, with it being one year, it's
- 7:03Speaker 5: kind of gonna be hard to be giving up a
- 7:05Speaker 5: lot of what you know they may be asking for.
- 7:07Speaker 5: But it would definitely solve some problems in the back
- 7:12Speaker 5: end of that bullpen. But also the other thing, another
- 7:15Speaker 5: lefty that was kind of my thing, which you know,
- 7:19Speaker 5: you know it is it wouldn't be bad to have
- 7:22Speaker 5: him in Soto at the back end of the bullpen.
- 7:24Speaker 5: But at the same time, like you know, I was
- 7:27Speaker 5: thinking the same thing is you know, I think the
- 7:29Speaker 5: right handed side of the bullpen really needs some help.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I will say this real quick.
- 7:34Speaker 2: If you have an all right handed starting rotation and
- 7:38Speaker 2: then right handed long relievers, like theoretically you could like
- 7:43Speaker 2: you take like a Jones Majinsky piggyback game. If those
- 7:47Speaker 2: guys can cover you seven, then you have Soto and Chapman.
- 7:51Speaker 1: That's pretty good right there.
- 7:53Speaker 2: It's just you know, I would like I would like
- 7:55Speaker 2: a high leverage right hander that I could depend on
- 7:58Speaker 2: if possible. Yeah, you know, if you don't have one
- 8:01Speaker 2: of those right now? Yeah, So all right, Mark, who's
- 8:04Speaker 2: your second guy?
- 8:05Speaker 3: All right, I'm going to go with another name that's
- 8:07Speaker 3: been linked to the Pirates, because I want to hear
- 8:09Speaker 3: your guys' thoughts on this. Ryan Jeffers a catcher currently
- 8:13Speaker 3: for the Twins, right handed bet. He's thirty two years
- 8:17Speaker 3: or sorry, twenty nine years old, playing really well. He's
- 8:23Speaker 3: got a nine nine ops this year. Just crazy offensive
- 8:29Speaker 3: production at the plate. Not exactly known for his defense.
- 8:34Speaker 3: He's not really going to be throwing guys out on
- 8:36Speaker 3: the base. Pass a lot. His blocks above average, are
- 8:39Speaker 3: pretty average, decent at framing. I mean, it's not anything
- 8:43Speaker 3: that you're like, this is concerning. He can't stay behind
- 8:46Speaker 3: the plate, so he's absolutely serviceable behind the plate. Provides
- 8:50Speaker 3: a righty bet who can get on base, provide a
- 8:53Speaker 3: little bit of power. I think he makes a ton
- 8:56Speaker 3: of sense. Not going to be too expensive. He's got
- 8:59Speaker 3: one year, this is his final year of his contract.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Seven million dollars, So affordable. Is it seven million dollars remaining?
- 9:09Speaker 3: And yeah, double check that, but.
- 9:11Speaker 1: No, it'll probably just be seven million. They don't show
- 9:13Speaker 1: what's remaining, Okay, yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, So I think he is affordable both for
- 9:20Speaker 3: the Pirates like payroll in as far as what they
- 9:23Speaker 3: could pay to get him. He doesn't exactly have the
- 9:25Speaker 3: name recognition of some of other catchers that might be
- 9:28Speaker 3: on the market. So yeah, I think Ryan Jeffers would
- 9:31Speaker 3: make a ton of sense for the Pittsburgh Pirates, improving
- 9:34Speaker 3: what we were just saying in our episode on Monday
- 9:39Speaker 3: that no one mentioned. If you're the Pirates and you're
- 9:43Speaker 3: managing this team, I think catcher is a major, major
- 9:45Speaker 3: need to get a starting catcher, and Ryan Jeffers could
- 9:49Speaker 3: absolutely be your starting catcher for this team.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I don't dislike it from a standpoint.
- 9:56Speaker 5: I think obviously we've talked about the catcher you know situation,
- 10:01Speaker 5: you know, surrounding the Pirates. Obviously Joey just got traded,
- 10:04Speaker 5: Henry hasn't really hit, and obviously Indies up. But catcher
- 10:10Speaker 5: is a position that you're going to be looking to upgrade,
- 10:13Speaker 5: especially if you're, you know, trying to make a push.
- 10:16Speaker 5: And that's no not to Indy, that's no not to
- 10:18Speaker 5: you know, Henry and you know the other guys are there,
- 10:21Speaker 5: but you know, you want to be able to somewhat
- 10:23Speaker 5: solidify the catcher spot and somebody that's gonna give you
- 10:26Speaker 5: a little bit offensive production, because honestly, what they have
- 10:29Speaker 5: has not really been anything, and if you've really been serious,
- 10:33Speaker 5: I think it's too much to put on Indy, you know,
- 10:35Speaker 5: to really take that over. And at the same time,
- 10:39Speaker 5: Ryan's been around a little bit, so I don't disagree
- 10:42Speaker 5: with especially knowing that you know, probably the catcher, you know,
- 10:44Speaker 5: trademarket is probably gonna be one of the toughest ones
- 10:47Speaker 5: to probably find, you know, so that that's not a
- 10:51Speaker 5: name that I'm opposed to, because you know, he can provide,
- 10:56Speaker 5: you know, hopefully a little bit more offense than what
- 10:58Speaker 5: they've been getting.
- 10:59Speaker 4: I don't think that's hard do though.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm my only reservation on it would just be
- 11:04Speaker 2: like if you're gonna if that's the move you're gonna make,
- 11:06Speaker 2: make it now, because the later, the later you wait
- 11:10Speaker 2: to bring in a catcher like this guy's got to
- 11:12Speaker 2: learn how to catch every pitcher on the team because
- 11:15Speaker 2: you're not bringing in Ryan Jeffers to be Andy Rodriguez's backup,
- 11:19Speaker 2: or at least you shouldn't be right. So and this
- 11:23Speaker 2: isn't necessarily a team where I think it would make
- 11:25Speaker 2: sense for him to be dhing while he gets familiar.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Like if you're bringing him in, you're bringing him in
- 11:31Speaker 2: to play catcher. And I'm fine with there being a
- 11:35Speaker 2: little bit of a grace period where it's like, all right, like,
- 11:38Speaker 2: let the guys who are familiar with Paul and Bubba
- 11:42Speaker 2: or whoever else you know, start them off basically assign
- 11:45Speaker 2: him one or two guys, and it's just like, hey,
- 11:48Speaker 2: you get to know Mitch Keller and Braxton Ashcraft.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Those are your two starts for now.
- 11:55Speaker 2: But the earlier you bring him in, the earlier, the
- 11:58Speaker 2: more time he gets to familiar himself with this whole staff.
- 12:02Speaker 2: And you know, when you get to September and if
- 12:04Speaker 2: you're still in the Pennant hunt, you can play him
- 12:06Speaker 2: with Paul schemes, you can play him with the other guys.
- 12:09Speaker 2: So that would be my thing, and I think that
- 12:11Speaker 2: that applies to any catcher one that you're going out
- 12:14Speaker 2: there and getting. If you're getting catcher depth just because
- 12:16Speaker 2: you think Henry Davis is unplayable, then I think it's
- 12:21Speaker 2: maybe you can wait a little bit longer. But again,
- 12:23Speaker 2: you don't see a lot of starting catchers traded mid season,
- 12:27Speaker 2: and that's why, because it's just very very very difficult
- 12:30Speaker 2: to learn a whole new staff mid season.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Makes sense, all right, we're gonna take a quick break.
- 12:37Speaker 1: When we come back more trade talk.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Josh is gonna give us his two targets here on

- 13:45Speaker 1: All right, Jay, Hey, what do you got for us?
- 13:49Speaker 4: All Right, Jay's on the clock like I'm doing a
- 13:52Speaker 4: draft pick.
- 13:53Speaker 5: Yeah no, but seriously, obviously two picks of mine. First
- 13:59Speaker 5: things for I'm gonna start with the area that I
- 14:02Speaker 5: think we've all agreed that needs help is relief pitching.
- 14:05Speaker 5: And named that I'm gonna throw out there is a
- 14:07Speaker 5: name that some people may know, some may not actually
- 14:09Speaker 5: play with him in Washington, Kyle Finnegan.
- 14:12Speaker 4: A little bit of a late bloomer. Found out about
- 14:15Speaker 4: Kyle in the.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Twenty twenty season in COVID faced him in some live
- 14:18Speaker 5: vps and played behind him watching him, and then saw
- 14:21Speaker 5: that he signed a two year deal I believe a
- 14:23Speaker 5: two year deal just recently with the Tigers, so price
- 14:27Speaker 5: tag got it. I mean, obviously they'd have to work
- 14:29Speaker 5: something out with that because I think it was a
- 14:31Speaker 5: two year nineteen guaranteed with a.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Mutual option I believe for twenty eight.
- 14:35Speaker 5: But if you look at his numbers for this year,
- 14:37Speaker 5: I think he's thrown in like thirty something games as
- 14:40Speaker 5: like a e RI a somewhere around two. And he's
- 14:45Speaker 5: a guy that doesn't really get too much talked about. Obviously,
- 14:48Speaker 5: you know, Detroit, you got some star power. You know,
- 14:50Speaker 5: you got scoop of there. Kenley Jansen is a name
- 14:53Speaker 5: who is obviously on his way up the you know
- 14:56Speaker 5: all time saves leader lists. And here's Kyle who I
- 14:59Speaker 5: played with. Just know, he's always been like a steady
- 15:01Speaker 5: arm even when he.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Was with Washington. I think his last year, I think
- 15:05Speaker 4: he might have been a closer.
- 15:06Speaker 5: And I think that's kind of you know, when people
- 15:08Speaker 5: kind of Okay, this guy's you know, kind of you know,
- 15:12Speaker 5: kind of flown.
- 15:13Speaker 4: Under the radar.
- 15:13Speaker 5: And obviously he just signed a contract, so maybe a
- 15:16Speaker 5: little harder, but you know, relief pictures for the rights,
- 15:19Speaker 5: for the right price and for a struggling bullpen. This
- 15:21Speaker 5: is a guy that you could have for you know,
- 15:22Speaker 5: for a year, possibly two.
- 15:25Speaker 1: He's interesting.
- 15:26Speaker 3: I mean, are you looking at his stack cast?
- 15:29Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:31Speaker 4: Basketball split, Yeah, it's a fastball that rides.
- 15:34Speaker 5: I faced him in Live VP and I remember taking
- 15:37Speaker 5: one like I thought that was gonna be at the
- 15:39Speaker 5: bottom of his zone and it was at my knees.
- 15:41Speaker 5: You know, So like he's got a fastball that rides
- 15:43Speaker 5: he plays the split off of it.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Looks like it's a lot to contact a ton.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Uh, he's fifth percentile k rate and second percent title
- 15:53Speaker 3: walk rate. Yeah, so his k rate's fourteen point six
- 15:57Speaker 3: and his walk rate's fifteen point nine. So yeah, he's
- 16:00Speaker 3: not striking anyone out. But two point oh two you
- 16:02Speaker 3: are a tells you a lot.
- 16:05Speaker 2: And I would say, I mean they're they like guys
- 16:08Speaker 2: with good extension, and seems like he gets good extension.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't hate it.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I mean, depending on the price tag, especially if it
- 16:15Speaker 2: comes with a little extra control, yeah, I don't mind
- 16:19Speaker 2: that addition. I will say he kind of strikes me
- 16:23Speaker 2: as a buyer beware. I mean has expected era's four
- 16:25Speaker 2: point five to two, expecting bad expected batting averages two
- 16:30Speaker 2: thirty eight.
- 16:30Speaker 1: So it might might seem like he's kind of getting
- 16:34Speaker 1: a little lucky right now. But I mean, hey, that's
- 16:36Speaker 1: part of baseball too. So uh. The walks concerned me
- 16:40Speaker 1: a little bit though, just with that, just because it's
- 16:42Speaker 1: like we've got enough yet already here.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, they have some Like I think you need
- 16:49Speaker 2: someone who is just betting the game a little bit
- 16:53Speaker 2: and Kyle Finnigan has been in the game a little bit,
- 16:56Speaker 2: so Yeah, I don't know, I don't I don't hate
- 16:59Speaker 2: that at all, Josh. I mean, he's a former All Star,
- 17:02Speaker 2: he's pitched in playoff baseball. Yeah, I'm all for it
- 17:07Speaker 2: if the price is right, Mark anything, Dad.
- 17:10Speaker 3: No, I think you guys covered that perfectly. I'm I
- 17:13Speaker 3: can't wait to hear Josh's next pick here.
- 17:17Speaker 5: All right, Hey, I got you all to prove my
- 17:19Speaker 5: first pick might be on something. All right, second pick
- 17:23Speaker 5: is gonna be another area of need similar to marks
- 17:26Speaker 5: in a slim market catcher. Now, this one's gonna have
- 17:28Speaker 5: a little halftier price tag with Adlie Rutchman from Baltimore,
- 17:32Speaker 5: which one of the reasons I said is catching is
- 17:36Speaker 5: a position right now that is kind of up in
- 17:38Speaker 5: the air. There's an uncertainty about it. And Adlee is
- 17:42Speaker 5: a switch hitter who linkedins the lineup, who can also DH.
- 17:47Speaker 5: But also it takes pressure off of you know, having
- 17:51Speaker 5: to rely on it and you know, Indy or Henry.
- 17:54Speaker 5: But as I said, I also understand that it is
- 17:57Speaker 5: you know, a little half your price tag. But No
- 18:00Speaker 5: made the comments of you know, some execs saying if
- 18:02Speaker 5: they were the Pirates next next year, the first thing
- 18:05Speaker 5: they'd be doing is trying to lock down a catcher
- 18:07Speaker 5: with the uncertainty of what may be happening in the
- 18:10Speaker 5: off season. This was something that I just kind of said,
- 18:13Speaker 5: maybe this is something that they try to get creative,
- 18:15Speaker 5: just to say, maybe we don't want to go in
- 18:17Speaker 5: the free agency trying to figure out what we're gonna
- 18:19Speaker 5: do with a catcher. So obviously catching is not that
- 18:23Speaker 5: many to choose from. It was just a name that
- 18:26Speaker 5: kind of intrigued me that I said, obviously a little
- 18:28Speaker 5: far fetched, but you know, with the looming CBA, with
- 18:32Speaker 5: you know, the uncertainty of it, that's something that I
- 18:36Speaker 5: could see happen. I wouldn't say could see happening, but
- 18:39Speaker 5: he's a guy that I would put on my list
- 18:41Speaker 5: because you know, switch it and catcher that can you know,
- 18:43Speaker 5: give you some link that can you know handle staff,
- 18:45Speaker 5: that's been an All Star.
- 18:46Speaker 4: That's something that it's kind of hard to pass up.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I believe it was the guy I
- 18:52Speaker 2: wanted them to go after this offseason. The only thing
- 18:56Speaker 2: that's tough is like what you mentioned, Josh, It's like
- 19:00Speaker 2: a guy would yeah, it's it's his last year of art.
- 19:03Speaker 2: But it's like, all right, well, if we knew there
- 19:05Speaker 2: was gonna be baseball next year, this is a no brainer.
- 19:07Speaker 1: And I'd be willing to give up.
- 19:08Speaker 2: A little something for him, probably something within my top
- 19:12Speaker 2: ten honestly, Uh, because if he plays well and likes
- 19:16Speaker 2: it here, like maybe just keep him, right.
- 19:20Speaker 1: But yeah, like if you if you.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Give up a good prospect to get him, which is
- 19:25Speaker 2: going to be required, and there's no baseball next year,
- 19:27Speaker 2: and you just kind of.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Lose it, that that would suck.
- 19:30Speaker 2: And also it's it's the mid Like we said already,
- 19:33Speaker 2: it's the mid season catcher trade. And I mean if
- 19:36Speaker 2: you're trading Adley Rushman for Adley Rushman, Adley Rushman's a
- 19:39Speaker 2: guy who you're not only playing at catcher, you're dhing
- 19:42Speaker 2: him on his off days probably so and he's a
- 19:47Speaker 2: guy that I wouldn't be upset to see that with.
- 19:50Speaker 1: So yeah, I I I like it.
- 19:52Speaker 2: It's just yeah, yeah, it's take some balls to go
- 19:59Speaker 2: get him, I think.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean another former first overall pick I catch
- 20:03Speaker 3: it for the Pirates, right, get two of those. Can't
- 20:07Speaker 3: really complain there, But Adley is really taking a step forward.
- 20:10Speaker 3: If you haven't kept up with him this year, his
- 20:13Speaker 3: past two seasons, his OPS was hovering like right round
- 20:16Speaker 3: seven hundred. That was below seven hundred in twenty twenty five,
- 20:20Speaker 3: and now he's up to seven to eighty seven OPS
- 20:22Speaker 3: this year with just fantastic defense behind the plate ninety
- 20:27Speaker 3: eighth percentile value fielding run value on stat Cast. And
- 20:33Speaker 3: you probably are sitting there like, well, why would the
- 20:35Speaker 3: Orioles want to give up this former first overall pick
- 20:39Speaker 3: who plays great defense and then near eight hundred ops.
- 20:42Speaker 3: It's because they have a guy who's just as talented,
- 20:45Speaker 3: if not more so, at who's playing boy right, Yeah, yeah,
- 20:48Speaker 3: Samuel Lousio. Yeah, And so there is incentive there for
- 20:53Speaker 3: Baltimore to move on from Adley. I think that cost
- 20:56Speaker 3: will be pretty high. I don't think they're just going
- 20:58Speaker 3: to be giving him away a special with the year
- 21:00Speaker 3: he's having. I think this offseason probably was, like Noah
- 21:04Speaker 3: was saying, it was the best chance to go out
- 21:05Speaker 3: and get him if you were and so, you know,
- 21:08Speaker 3: maybe the Pirates looked at this offseason said no, maybe
- 21:11Speaker 3: it's still the same assessment. But I think he would
- 21:14Speaker 3: just really really help this team at a major position
- 21:17Speaker 3: in need.
- 21:19Speaker 2: All right, we're going to take another break. When we
- 21:21Speaker 2: come back, I'll give out my trade targets here. I'm
- 21:24Speaker 2: Bucko Territory.

- 22:25Speaker 7: one eight hundred gambler.
- 22:28Speaker 1: All right, my targets this guy.
- 22:30Speaker 2: I think if I could pick one player to add
- 22:33Speaker 2: to the Pirates right now, it would be Antonio Sensitella,
- 22:37Speaker 2: the reliever for the Colorado Rockies.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Long long relief too kind of right, I mean.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, but give me him, give me him in
- 22:48Speaker 2: whatever role. I don't care. He's having a great year.
- 22:52Speaker 2: I mean, he's he's gonna cost you a little bit.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I believe there is a mutual option on his final
- 22:57Speaker 2: year or or no, yeah, a club option of fourteen
- 23:00Speaker 2: million next, okay, but I mean and.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Which is which is a pretty penny.
- 23:04Speaker 3: But like, that's a lot of value for that price, that's.
- 23:08Speaker 1: A lot of value. I mean, you look at what
- 23:10Speaker 1: this guy's doing right now.
- 23:11Speaker 2: I mean, he's he's looking really good in this role
- 23:15Speaker 2: of which they're using him. He's seven to oh with
- 23:19Speaker 2: a two twenty three earned around average, forty innings forty
- 23:22Speaker 2: and a third innings pitch, thirty three strikeouts.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Uh course, to right pitch of the gas.
- 23:33Speaker 2: He's pitched a twenty two inning or twenty two games
- 23:36Speaker 2: doing that at cores Like you guys mentioned, I mean
- 23:40Speaker 2: the fastball Vlo's there, he's missing barrels, He's in the
- 23:45Speaker 2: sixty fifth percentile of ground ball rate. He's he's not
- 23:50Speaker 2: walking guys, which I like, I mean eight point two
- 23:53Speaker 2: for rade.
- 23:54Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Yes, and again like this is kind of what everyone
- 23:59Speaker 2: wants Carmen Jinski to be and Carmen can still do.
- 24:02Speaker 1: That, by the way.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Yeah, but like having a fireman, like you pair him
- 24:08Speaker 2: and Carmen together, it's just like all right, yeah, they're
- 24:10Speaker 2: both gonna they're gonna bridge it.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:13Speaker 2: And also just the thing with the Rockies is like
- 24:16Speaker 2: they are D T D. They are down to trade always,
- 24:20Speaker 2: like it's it's just like that. Yeah, it's it's like,
- 24:23Speaker 2: I know what your intentions are.
- 24:24Speaker 1: You're you're you're open, you're looking.
- 24:27Speaker 2: On Yeah, do you not act like you're looking to
- 24:29Speaker 2: hold on to anyone on this roster.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Colorado, because I know how you guys are. Ye.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Now that you got that moneyball guy running the show
- 24:37Speaker 2: and they love making trades, so you could pair him,
- 24:40Speaker 2: you could package him with like a Willie Castro.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Who also has another year.
- 24:45Speaker 2: I like that, and you know, you get two guys
- 24:48Speaker 2: with multiple years of control, and you fix a lot
- 24:51Speaker 2: of the problems on this team just by one deal.
- 24:54Speaker 2: And the Rockies, man, like I said, like throw every
- 24:56Speaker 2: piece of logic out the window when you're doing business
- 24:58Speaker 2: with them.
- 24:59Speaker 1: They can make a trade tomorrow, like it doesn't matter.
- 25:01Speaker 2: So I mean, Senstela, I think is gonna have a high,
- 25:04Speaker 2: high price tag and they might want to hang on
- 25:07Speaker 2: to him. But like that's a guy I would I would.
- 25:11Speaker 2: I mean I wouldn't give up like a top five
- 25:13Speaker 2: for them, but like I would give up, I would
- 25:16Speaker 2: give up a decent amount.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Of especially if it's Castro and Senstela.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yeah, like or I mean, and there's it's not just Castro,
- 25:23Speaker 2: but like I look at Willie Castro because he also
- 25:25Speaker 2: has another year of remaining control. He's a guy that
- 25:28Speaker 2: you could play literally anywhere on the fields. And yeah,
- 25:31Speaker 2: it's like a better offensive version of switch hitting, better
- 25:34Speaker 2: hitting Jared Triolo exactly. So yeah, but you could get
- 25:39Speaker 2: if you want to add more offense defense, Like there's
- 25:43Speaker 2: everyone on the Rockies is up for grabs, so if
- 25:45Speaker 2: you're trading for yeah, you can also add something on.
- 25:48Speaker 1: So guys, your.
- 25:49Speaker 3: Thoughts, I absolutely love it. Yeah, it makes so much sense.
- 25:55Speaker 3: And yeah, Josh, what were you going to say?
- 25:58Speaker 5: No, just the what you provided, uh kind of that
- 26:04Speaker 5: swing man any role, because obviously we know the bullpen
- 26:09Speaker 5: needs up, but also starting pitching needs up, just from
- 26:11Speaker 5: a standpoint of you know, Magensky got you know, put
- 26:14Speaker 5: in the bullpen, Jared Jones still making his way back
- 26:17Speaker 5: like they're still and as you mentioned, he can cover
- 26:21Speaker 5: a lot of holes. And if you mentioned if that
- 26:24Speaker 5: he was coming over there and Magensky was there too,
- 26:26Speaker 5: you got two guys that can put out some fires
- 26:28Speaker 5: in a lot of different ways and that you know
- 26:32Speaker 5: can can definitely help the team. But pitching in Colorado's
- 26:36Speaker 5: not easy, especially you know, one you're talking the conditions
- 26:39Speaker 5: of the team, like the stadium, but then you talk
- 26:43Speaker 5: in a place that really hasn't won.
- 26:46Speaker 4: You know, I'm I'm I'm not opposed to it.
- 26:48Speaker 5: And even the package deal, I think one of y'all
- 26:50Speaker 5: had mentioned Willie Castro as or myself one of us
- 26:53Speaker 5: had mentioned in this off season as a possible target.
- 26:56Speaker 4: But that sense of Tella.
- 26:58Speaker 5: Definitely makes it's in a lot of different places, just
- 27:01Speaker 5: because he can cover you in a lot of areas.
- 27:03Speaker 3: Yeah, and especially with a young rotation that is approaching
- 27:07Speaker 3: innings limits as we've talked previously with like Ashcraft and Bubby,
- 27:10Speaker 3: you might want to lessen them a little bit towards
- 27:13Speaker 3: the end of the year. I think sense of Tela
- 27:15Speaker 3: is that perfect flex piece that you can say, all right,
- 27:18Speaker 3: we need three innings from you today, or we need
- 27:20Speaker 3: one inning from you today, or what have you?
- 27:21Speaker 2: So, all right, my second one is going to be
- 27:24Speaker 2: a choose your own journey. I'll ask you to do
- 27:27Speaker 2: you want the ambitious big swing or do you want
- 27:30Speaker 2: a realistic one that I could see, not based off
- 27:33Speaker 2: of anything that I'm hearing, but just like this is
- 27:35Speaker 2: a reasonable guy that most baseball fans probably aren't aware
- 27:39Speaker 2: of but could make.
- 27:40Speaker 1: The team better.
- 27:41Speaker 3: Well, I want the I want the big swing. This
- 27:43Speaker 3: is a a podcast. It's going to get the clicks,
- 27:47Speaker 3: but I do want to hear both. I just want
- 27:49Speaker 3: to hear the big swing first.
- 27:51Speaker 4: I think I was gonna say, Mark, Mark.
- 27:57Speaker 1: I tell you, yeah, no, no, no, no.
- 27:59Speaker 2: If I'm going to trade for anyone, like trade a
- 28:03Speaker 2: real prospect for someone, I'm trading for Jose Soriano, right
- 28:07Speaker 2: hander starter for the Angels. Yeah, he's worth two point
- 28:11Speaker 2: four v war right now. He's eight and four with
- 28:13Speaker 2: a three h three era. He's got two more years
- 28:15Speaker 2: of control after this one. That's the type of move
- 28:18Speaker 2: they should be making. If they're going to do that,
- 28:20Speaker 2: then you basically sit down the rest of the rotation
- 28:23Speaker 2: and say, here's the deal. We're really going for this.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Paul is going to be in this rotation. The rest
- 28:30Speaker 2: of you prove it either some of you haven't been
- 28:33Speaker 2: good enough, other parts of you have been injured. I
- 28:37Speaker 2: don't want to hear any more of this belly aching
- 28:39Speaker 2: about not wanting to go to the bullpen or whatever.
- 28:42Speaker 2: We just brought in Jose Soriano. He is going to
- 28:45Speaker 2: be the number two behind Paul moving forward. The rest
- 28:49Speaker 2: of you can he either follow in the three to
- 28:52Speaker 2: five spots or you can move to the bullpen and
- 28:54Speaker 2: help us win that way.
- 28:55Speaker 1: But we're all in. That's how I would go about it.
- 28:58Speaker 1: I don't see that happen.
- 29:00Speaker 5: Uh.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Soriano also walks a lot of batters, which I don't love. Man,
- 29:05Speaker 1: there's so much to like.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Yeah, he's already I mean, he threw one hundred and
- 29:09Speaker 2: sixty nine innings last year. He's already up to ninety
- 29:12Speaker 2: two this year. I mean, he's in he's entering his prime.
- 29:15Speaker 2: He's like twenty seven years old. The Angels are stupid.
- 29:19Speaker 2: They would love to trade him just because they do that.
- 29:21Speaker 1: So yeah, that's that's why.
- 29:24Speaker 4: Yeah, bad, not bad.
- 29:28Speaker 5: I was just like, if you slatting him at two,
- 29:31Speaker 5: somebody's being pushed to the pin, which is gonna help
- 29:33Speaker 5: you pan. So like yeah, yeah, yeah, I get where
- 29:38Speaker 5: you're going. Starting pitching does create another relief picture because somebody.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Fade like they're going to have to add to this
- 29:46Speaker 2: rotation moving forward anyway.
- 29:48Speaker 1: And that's the type of move if.
- 29:49Speaker 2: You're gonna make a big move, if you're going to
- 29:51Speaker 2: trade a big prospect this season, it needs to be
- 29:55Speaker 2: a guy that has more than just not just one
- 29:57Speaker 2: more year of control, because we don't know if we're
- 30:00Speaker 2: to have baseball next year, so I think it's got
- 30:03Speaker 2: to be someone who's gonna be here in twenty twenty eight.
- 30:06Speaker 2: And I mean like doomsday scenario, which I know we
- 30:09Speaker 2: don't need to open.
- 30:10Speaker 1: This can of worms, but say they deal Paul.
- 30:13Speaker 2: Not this year, obviously, but like, let's say they deal
- 30:16Speaker 2: Paul before the twenty twenty eight season starts.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Like the baseball structure doesn't go to plan.
- 30:22Speaker 2: I mean, you feel better with Seth Hernandez coming up
- 30:25Speaker 2: and a guy like Soriano here too. I don't know,
- 30:28Speaker 2: I just I love if you're gonna go all in
- 30:32Speaker 2: on a player that has multiple years of control, I
- 30:36Speaker 2: would rather be an infielder or a starting pitcher. And
- 30:40Speaker 2: that's that's where I saw Soriano and became pretty attracted
- 30:43Speaker 2: to that idea.
- 30:45Speaker 1: And then real quick the.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Other one, I'll throw out the guy, the realistic one,
- 30:49Speaker 2: like this is a trade I would love to see
- 30:52Speaker 2: them actually make and I think is realistic.
- 30:54Speaker 1: This is my favorite name in baseball. Lake Baker.
- 30:57Speaker 2: He's a middle inning reliever for the Mymi Marlins.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Just as solid as they come.
- 31:03Speaker 2: He has got a three to oho two earned run
- 31:05Speaker 2: average right hander forty forty one and two thirds innings.
- 31:09Speaker 2: He's got forty six strikeouts in a zero point nine
- 31:11Speaker 2: to eight whip. His expected e r A is three
- 31:15Speaker 2: one two, which is in the eighty first percentile. His
- 31:18Speaker 2: expected batting average against is one ninety five, which is
- 31:21Speaker 2: ninety second percentile. He's got a ninety second percent tile
- 31:24Speaker 2: whift rate an eighty four percent tile uh strikeout rate.
- 31:29Speaker 2: He walks nine and a half percent, so it's a
- 31:31Speaker 2: little high, but nothing too bad. The barrel rates average.
- 31:35Speaker 2: He doesn't get a lot of extension. He's a fly
- 31:37Speaker 2: ball pitcher, which I think is fine for PNC part.
- 31:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I like.
- 31:45Speaker 3: Soccer, yep, yeah, familiar.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Yeah, he went to Wisconsin Whitewater no way, so.
- 31:52Speaker 3: Yeah, because he is a guy. Yeah, shout out sack,
- 31:56Speaker 3: Yeah get white Water.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Well but.
- 32:01Speaker 2: No, but I mean last year you look at his
- 32:03Speaker 2: body work. He pitched in fifty three games. Last year
- 32:05Speaker 2: he went eight and two. He had a three nine
- 32:06Speaker 2: to three yearn gred ravage and that was like his
- 32:08Speaker 2: first real year in the major leagues. Seventy five strikeouts
- 32:11Speaker 2: over seventy one innings, one point two er whip.
- 32:14Speaker 1: Is this guy a household name? Absolutely not. I'm pretty sure.
- 32:19Speaker 2: You know, let's say five hundred people watch this episode
- 32:22Speaker 2: or listening to this episode.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Four hundred and nine of them have probably never heard
- 32:25Speaker 1: like name, and I think.
- 32:27Speaker 3: The other yeah yeah, yeah, so uh but.
- 32:32Speaker 2: I mean he throws five pitches. He's a primary fastball,
- 32:36Speaker 2: slider guy. But he's got the curveball that can work.
- 32:40Speaker 2: He's got I think he is that curveball or is
- 32:43Speaker 2: that a cutter? Let me look, Yeah, curveball that can work,
- 32:46Speaker 2: and he's got a sweeper, like, I don't know, there's
- 32:49Speaker 2: a lot to him. He's got long hair, he's got
- 32:51Speaker 2: a cool name. He's a D three guy, get me.
- 32:54Speaker 1: And I know the Marlins. I mean, the Marlins are
- 32:57Speaker 1: in the race right now, but they're not gonna no
- 33:01Speaker 1: right now, So I.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Don't think they would, Like Fairbanks is going to be
- 33:05Speaker 2: a guy that they if they are competitive, they would
- 33:08Speaker 2: probably want to hang on to just because he's really
- 33:11Speaker 2: real wid Yeah, but I mean this is this is
- 33:13Speaker 2: probably Lake Barker is probably like their seventh or eighth
- 33:16Speaker 2: inning guy.
- 33:17Speaker 1: The Pirates need one of those. Yeah, I mean, what
- 33:20Speaker 1: are you going to give up for Lake Baker?
- 33:22Speaker 3: And you know, Miami has such a depth, like they
- 33:25Speaker 3: have so many good relief pictures right now, they have
- 33:28Speaker 3: the fourth best era for relief pictures in MLB. So
- 33:31Speaker 3: this is a position of strength where they can give
- 33:33Speaker 3: up a guy like this because they have so many
- 33:36Speaker 3: other options already.
- 33:37Speaker 1: So yeah, ooh yeah, So he doesn't.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Hit arbitration until twenty twenty eight, so I like, you're
- 33:47Speaker 2: getting a guy.
- 33:47Speaker 1: With a lot of control.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I don't know what he ends up being,
- 33:52Speaker 2: but like it just seems like this is a.
- 33:54Speaker 1: Very low risk, low high reward type of acquisition. I
- 34:01Speaker 1: don't know. I'll give up. I'll give up one of
- 34:03Speaker 1: my double A bats.
- 34:04Speaker 3: I was going to say, would you think like like
- 34:05Speaker 3: a low like second half of the top thirty, Like yeah, like.
- 34:11Speaker 2: You could even frame it like I would maybe even
- 34:15Speaker 2: trade like a major league piece like I don't.
- 34:17Speaker 3: Know, like as Relling Valet or as Marilyn Valdez type.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Maybe, I don't know, like someone like that. Sure, I
- 34:25Speaker 2: wouldn't be opposed to.
- 34:26Speaker 3: It, right, I mean that level amount of control, and
- 34:30Speaker 3: if he's proven he can stick.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Yeah, like those metrics that I just read off for him,
- 34:35Speaker 2: those are yeah yeah.
- 34:37Speaker 1: And I don't know if he'll be your closer, but
- 34:40Speaker 1: if you could.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Get you know your mouth, Yeah, just go get someone who.
- 34:47Speaker 5: Wasn't wasn't putting nobody on to sound like his women's
- 34:51Speaker 5: less than a runner.
- 34:52Speaker 2: So the Lake Boker if it happens you heard it
- 34:56Speaker 2: here from, Yeah, definitely.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I will take the most and nause eating hired.
- 35:04Speaker 3: You'll be watching this. I know his Twitter right now?
- 35:06Speaker 1: Yeah, oh I'll be I'll be calling everyone I know
- 35:08Speaker 1: in that front office.
- 35:09Speaker 3: Been like I deserve you guys got this from me.
- 35:13Speaker 3: It's just so you get.
- 35:14Speaker 1: And I want to be abundantly clear.
- 35:16Speaker 2: I have not talked to anyone in any baseball organization
- 35:20Speaker 2: ever about Lake Boker. I have never had one conversation.
- 35:24Speaker 2: I just watched him against the Pirates last year on
- 35:26Speaker 2: Opening Day and I said that name rules, and I
- 35:29Speaker 2: look into him and I can't get him out of
- 35:31Speaker 2: my mind. He's just my favorite player that no one
- 35:34Speaker 2: else talks about in baseball.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Go get Lake Balker.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Forget Jose Soriano, forget sends a talent or Willie Castro
- 35:40Speaker 2: or Jeffers.
- 35:41Speaker 1: This is the Lake Balker episode.
- 35:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I love it.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, perfect, And yeah we need Lake Baker and Pittsburgh.
- 35:49Speaker 2: We also need you to hit that subscribe button if
- 35:52Speaker 2: you haven't already.
- 35:54Speaker 1: We're on a mission of three thousand subs. Lake Balker
- 35:56Speaker 1: told me personally he will request.
- 35:58Speaker 2: A trade to the Pirates if we get up to
- 36:00Speaker 2: three thousand subs by the weekend.
- 36:02Speaker 1: So I don't know if that's gonna incentivize anyone to
- 36:05Speaker 1: do anything, but hope.
- 36:06Speaker 3: Let's hope.
- 36:07Speaker 2: Yeah, And whenever Lake Bomper does arrive to Pittsburgh, you
- 36:11Speaker 2: know what we're gonna do. We're gonna get him a
- 36:12Speaker 2: whole bunch of Bucko Territory merch. We're gonna send him
- 36:15Speaker 2: the Bucko Territory team store. We're gonna point out Andrew
- 36:18Speaker 2: mccutchon on the jumbo tron. We're gonna say, you could
- 36:21Speaker 2: have a legacy like this, you could have you know,
- 36:24Speaker 2: people wearing number twenty. We'll give him number twenty two
- 36:27Speaker 2: if he comes here. Probably not actually, but I'm just
- 36:30Speaker 2: rolling now.
- 36:33Speaker 4: Over there.
- 36:33Speaker 5: Yeah, he could have a bucket half of when he
- 36:36Speaker 5: going to Lake no PUNTI.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Yeah, there you go there, Yeah, Josh, any final thoughts.
- 36:42Speaker 5: Mark, you handled us, Yeah, describe button, get us closer
