- 0:57Leyla Zmeskal: I'm adequately gimpy. Don't ask me why. It was a,
- 1:02Trisha Smith: It was a great story.
- 1:04Diane Black: It is a great story.
- 1:04Leyla Zmeskal: Freak rollerblading slash water sport accident.
- 1:07Trisha Smith: That's the story she's going with.
- 1:09Leyla Zmeskal: Yeah, that's exactly i'm going with.
- 1:11Diane Black: We advised her to stick with that.
- 1:13Trisha Smith: Did you say waterboarding?
- 1:13Leyla Zmeskal: Yeah wakeboarding.
- 1:14Trisha Smith: Oh, wakeboarding.
- 1:15Diane Black: Yeah, she added on.
- 1:16Trisha Smith: I'm like, waterboarding is a whole other thing. No wonder your gimpy.
- 1:23Leyla Zmeskal: Might have been a little bit of that too. So anything else?
- 1:30Trisha Smith: Uh, yeah.
- 1:31Leyla Zmeskal: Yeah.
- 1:32Trisha Smith: We have a special guest today.
- 1:35Leyla Zmeskal: I know.
- 1:36Diane Black: A re-guest.
- 1:36Leyla Zmeskal: Re-guest! She thought it wasn't that terrible the first time so she came back for another time.
- 1:43Trisha Smith: I know, she's sticking with us.
- 1:44Diane Black: Brave women.
- 1:45Leyla Zmeskal: I know. I don't think nothing, nothing really scares her to much to be honest.
- 1:49Diane Black: I don't think so, no.
- 1:49Trisha Smith: No.
- 1:50Leyla Zmeskal: So if you remember from our first season, we had Bri on, and Bri is here with us again. I
- 1:56Bri: I am. Hi.
- 1:57Trisha Smith: Hi.
- 1:58Leyla Zmeskal: Welcome Bri.
- 2:00Bri: It's so nice.
- 2:01Leyla Zmeskal: If it could do this, it would be like, haaaaaaaaaaaaa
- 2:07Diane Black: Right.
- 2:07Leyla Zmeskal: So for all the the poor unfortunate souls that have not heard our first season or that episode that you're in, would you please introduce yourself?
- 2:15Bri: Hello, my name is Bri. I am a practicing witch. I'm an occult teacher, a writer. I am a baker. You know, all vegan baker, cuz I'm vegan, and yeah, there's a long list, but it sounds pretentious. I'm not gonna say the whole list, so you can ask me all the questions and I will answer that.
- 2:36Diane Black: That's a nice answer.
- 2:37Diane Black: Yeah.
- 2:39Trisha Smith: Yeah.
- 2:40Leyla Zmeskal: I really liked our first, that was, you're one of my favorite guests.
- 2:43Bri: Aw.
- 2:43Leyla Zmeskal: I still say that to this day.
- 2:44Diane Black: Definately.
- 2:44Bri: Thank you.
- 2:45Trisha Smith: Yeah.
- 2:46Trisha Smith: All the time.
- 2:46Trisha Smith: She's just been waiting. She's like, do we have time? Do we have time this month?
- 2:50Leyla Zmeskal: I know. I want to ask Bri to be on again.
- 2:53Leyla Zmeskal: Hey,girls, you know what, I'm thinking of asking Bri to be back on again.
- 2:55Trisha Smith: I know. So when Bri was on last season, we had a lot of questions and then we got overwhelmed. So now we're going back to the questions that we didn't get to ask the first time around. But first we have to talk about drinks.
- 3:12Leyla Zmeskal: Right. I was going to jump right in now.
- 3:15Trisha Smith: I know.
- 3:16Diane Black: You've been chomping at the bit.
- 3:18Leyla Zmeskal: I was like, let's do this.
- 3:20Trisha Smith: Right.
- 3:20Bri: I'm ready.
- 3:21Leyla Zmeskal: Oh wait, we are drinking.
- 3:24Trisha Smith: So, what are you having?
- 3:26Leyla Zmeskal: I am having the coconut mojito, the simple coconut Mojito.
- 3:30Diane Black: Yum.
- 3:31Trisha Smith: Cuz it's so easy.
- 3:32Leyla Zmeskal: Yeah, it was a little bit of coconut rum, Owens Cucumber Mint mixer.
- 3:39Trisha Smith: Yeah.
- 3:40Leyla Zmeskal: Yeah. just threw both of those into the glass and it's equal parts and wahlah.
- 3:44Diane Black: Yeah.
- 3:46Trisha Smith: Diane.
- 3:47Diane Black: I am having a lovely warm, chai tea today.
- 3:50Leyla Zmeskal: Oh.
- 3:51Diane Black: Spicy, warm deliciousness.
- 3:55Trisha Smith: Sounds good.
- 3:56Leyla Zmeskal: Yeah.
- 3:56Trisha Smith: We like that.
- 3:57Leyla Zmeskal: Yeah.
- 3:58Trisha Smith: Bri?
- 3:59Bri: I am drinking a classic Margarita that I did not make because I was treated to someone's bartending skills.
- 4:06Bri: That they want ah,
- 4:07Leyla Zmeskal: You're our guest.
- 4:07Bri: So Leyla made me an awesome classic Margarita which and it's
- 4:07Diane Black: Leyla.
- 4:08Trisha Smith: Yeah.
- 4:10Trisha Smith: not like premix ,it's like legi,
- 4:14Diane Black: Right.
- 4:14Bri: Like with the liquor. She measured it out.
- 4:17Leyla Zmeskal: I did.
- 4:17Diane Black: And.
- 4:17Leyla Zmeskal: I followed a whole recipe.
- 4:19Diane Black: She did, she had the recipe on her phone.
- 4:21Bri: Yeah, it's quite delectable.
- 4:23Leyla Zmeskal: Trisha?
- 4:23Trisha Smith: I'm just having a cider today, some of your, Zombie Killer, sounds good.
- 4:30Diane Black: Sounds like you're getting ready for fall.
- 4:32Trisha Smith: Right.
- 4:33Leyla Zmeskal: It's that time.
- 4:35Trisha Smith: I've been waiting.
- 4:36Diane Black: I know you have, i'm excited for you.
- 4:38Leyla Zmeskal: I just put up all my Halloween stuff inside the house.
- 4:40Diane Black: Did you?
- 4:41Leyla Zmeskal: Hell yeah I did.
- 4:41Leyla Zmeskal: Yeah, well some of it's always up all year.
- 4:47Diane Black: Yeah.
- 4:49Leyla Zmeskal: and I have those you know my little skuly statues are up, and my skull pictures that are for the artists that are really like. Those are up all year, but I just broke out my little, my little Halloween gnomes. I changed out my Halloween gnomes. I like gnomes. Sorry, my name is Leyla
- 5:10Diane Black: Yes, she does.
- 5:12Diane Black: and I like gnomes.
- 5:13Bri: A Lot.
- 5:14Bri: They have cute little Zombie gnomes.
- 5:19Leyla Zmeskal: I need a zombie gnome in my life.
- 5:20Bri: I've trying to find them. I can't find them.
- 5:23Trisha Smith: No, Bri came today with prizes and goodies.
- 5:26Diane Black: Yeah.
- 5:27Leyla Zmeskal: She did, so nice of her.
- 5:29Trisha Smith: Please tell me what, this is the Scarlet Letter.
- 5:34Bri: I, so basically, the company is called, The Scarlet Letter Vegan Shop.
- 5:39Leyla Zmeskal: What are they?
- 5:40Bri: It's like an umbrella of like, all whatever I feel like creating that day. That's what I making. It's a very sagittarian like lifestyle. Like, I'm like, oh, whatever. I feel like it.
- 5:48Bri: That's what's happening.
- 5:49Leyla Zmeskal: Right.
- 5:49Bri: So these are all intention bottles. So they're not premade.
- 5:53Bri: They're not just sitting somewhere. I have this whol apothecary, and when I thin about that person, I'm like What do I think that they need And I hear it, I'm like, a d that's what's going in t e bottle, and then I get run s that I'd put onto the candle, I carved them into the candle. B
- 6:06Diane Black: That's great.
- 6:10Diane Black: t there's not like a lot of rule. Like it's kind of like, do w at you want to, do you want to urn the candle, do you not wan to burn the candle. And even ame thing with the spell bottl
- 6:16Bri: And so yeah, those are intention bottles.
- 6:18Bri: s I have, I don't put I don't eal them up with waxes. I'm l ke, maybe you want to open it an do something with it. Maybe ike when this doesn't feel ood anymore, then you put somet ing else in there. But everyone has a very different intention.
- 6:30Bri: And I curated them just for the people that I give them to So that's why I like, it's all just small batch stuf and everything's always empty.
- 6:36Bri: It's you know, I even have erbs growing in my garden now t at I use sometimes.
- 6:44Leyla Zmeskal: Is it appropriate to ask what intention?
- 6:47Bri: Yeah, if you want too.
- 6:48Leyla Zmeskal: I want to know what it is.
- 6:49Bri: Okay,
- 6:49Leyla Zmeskal: I want to know.
- 6:53Diane Black: For you, I decided that I wanted to increase your prosperity in all things and your abundance, but also heal some things like from like past job stuff and past relationships and kind of open up that heart chakra a little bit more. So you get a little bit more of a healing vibe.
- 7:09Leyla Zmeskal: That's appropriate.
- 7:11Diane Black: Very appropiate.
- 7:12Leyla Zmeskal: Especially lately.
- 7:13Trisha Smith: Yeah.
- 7:14Bri: So I was like, and you can, and the best thing about these is some people put them in their purse, some people put them in their car, they put them underneath their pillow on an altar.
- 7:21Diane Black: It's a great size.
- 7:22Bri: Yeah, I was noticing that.
- 7:24Bri: Like some people, like just put it in their pocket. Like it's so interesting. Like, I know my partner, he loves tangible things. So he'll put like stones now in his pocket. And he's like, I don't know, there's just something about them. It feels really good. But yeah, so that's what I do with those.
- 7:39Leyla Zmeskal: And you mentioned that there's runes engraved on the candle.
- 7:41Bri: Yes. So there are runes on there, and sometimes I create my own sigils for people and sometimes I don't it just really depends on what am I vibing with, like, when I think about the person, what am I hearing?
- 7:50Bri: What am I feeling? What do I feel like they might need and sometimes like I'm a little surprised, like even like the color so even like the little bags that they're in, represent, like colors to, like everything is very intentional when I package these things.
- 8:05Diane Black: Right.
- 8:05Leyla Zmeskal: Is green, like, prosperous and,
- 8:08Bri: Yeah, and it's very, like heart chakra. So I really, when I pick out the organza bags, I really think about the chakras first because that's a very easy thing for people to kind of digest, like Oh, I know that color. And then sometimes the candle matches the bag, sometimes it doesn't, because sometimes I'm like, Oh, well, here's your base, and here's all these other things I think that you would like.
- 8:28Leyla Zmeskal: And you mentioned some people burn the candle, is there a significance of burning the candle.
- 8:33Bri: So to me, what I do is I put intention and energy into each candle just like any basic candle spell. So if you burn it, you release that intention into the universe and there it's it helps you focus. I also tell people who have a hard time meditating to do candle gazing, because all you have to do is light it and just look at this candle and it really does help you like relax the eye, relax the body. For people have a hard time just sitting with their eyes closed. I personally love candle meditation. And then when there's spellwork involved, it's even better and you don't have to look at it till it burns down. You just like it's not weird.
- 9:08Leyla Zmeskal: You must watch this whole candle.
- 9:11Bri: And what's really interesting because you know, candles have their own magic and like some candles burn very quickly. Some take a very long time to burn and they're all the same size. And it's they're all from the same batch and it's just really interesting and even the way that candle flickers it's kind of like oh, you can read that energy.
- 9:28Leyla Zmeskal: Interesting and the runes are specific to, this intention.
- 9:32Bri: Yeah,
- 9:32Leyla Zmeskal: Very nice. Thank you so much. That's very nice, I love it.
- 9:36Trisha Smith: Well tell me about mine.
- 9:36Bri: You're welcome.
- 9:37Bri: Okay.
- 9:37Trisha Smith: It has lots of colors going on.
- 9:41Bri: With yours, I was thinking like healing some ancestral trauma especially relationship with like children and it's orange like that sacral energy so it is considered passion, creativity, sexuality, talking about those pineapples.
- 9:57Leyla Zmeskal: That's for another show.
- 9:58Bri: But it is, it's very like focus on like self healing and because it's I think it's interesting when you have older children, we kind of forget that we were a whole person, like before we had children. But then like, as we interact with our children, it's like, you're a whole different person beyond that, and then they're older, and then you're another different person. So this is very much focused on healing, kind of like that pass shit and embracing, like this new shit.
- 10:21Bri: Like, it's like the boss babe level, you know, like, when you embrace your shit, you're like, this is what I'm about, like, yes, I have boundaries, this is what I'm doing. But like, I still want to be passionate and creates it, you know, creative and I for some reason, people think like women stop having sex after 40. But I can assure you they don't. And I,
- 10:41Leyla Zmeskal: They don't.
- 10:42Bri: Think it embraces all that energy, like the spice of life.
- 10:45Trisha Smith: Right,
- 10:46Leyla Zmeskal: That's fantastic.
- 10:48Trisha Smith: Wow,
- 10:48Diane Black: I agree with all of that.
- 10:51Bri: Oh thank you.
- 10:52Leyla Zmeskal: Yeah, that's fantastic. Thank you.
- 10:54Trisha Smith: Alright, I like it.
- 10:57Leyla Zmeskal: So if,
- 10:57Diane Black: Wait, hold on.
- 10:58Leyla Zmeskal: I'm sorry. Sorry.
- 10:59Bri: Would you like to know?
- 11:00Diane Black: I would.
- 11:01Bri: So for you, when I think about you. I thought about two about articulating, like your inner peace, you say some things, but you keep it you're very reserved on a lot of other things. And you kind of just like bite, it's almost like I can spiritually see you biting your tongue on a lot of things.
- 11:18Bri: So this is a way to articulate things like, yeah, like to be able to say your truth in a way that feels very aligned with how you speak to people, how you interact with people, but it's also with the Black Candle, having a lot of like a protective element. Because sometimes we don't always feel like we're in a safe space. So when we can cultivate and create that safe space, you become a beacon for other people as well.
- 11:41Bri: And it's also really about involving other people. And like teamwork and building like that tribe of people, that makes you kind of elevates you up a little bit higher. And there's also a lot of healing aspects to that too, especially if you've been told, like be quiet or the now's not the right time, or you're too much, or you're too loud, or too, whatever. This is a way to kind of heal that and being able to understand that the way you can speak your truth, and it's a safe space, and giving an actually taking up the space to speak. That's what I think about when I see you,
- 12:13Diane Black: Thank you.
- 12:13Diane Black: You're very wellcome.
- 12:14Leyla Zmeskal: Thank you, these are very, very thoughtful and meaningful gifts that you gave us.
- 12:20Diane Black: Very much so.
- 12:22Leyla Zmeskal: And it definitely, this one definitely resonates with me right now.
- 12:26Diane Black: I think three of them do.
- 12:28Trisha Smith: Absolutlely.
- 12:28Diane Black: From my perspective, I think.
- 12:30Leyla Zmeskal: So if anybody wants one of these intention bottles, how can they go about getting one of them?
- 12:35Bri: So I have a very unique business model. And every time I explained we were like, what? So I have a very much like, have you ever like read those fairy tales where you're just kind of wandering in the forest and you just happen upon a witch's house. I mean, whether it's a Hansel and Gretel situation, that's, you know, that's your business. You know, you just kind of wander in, you're like, Oh, this house is here. This wasn't here before I've gone this road 1000 times. That's how I want to be, someone called me the Scarlet Witch the other day, and I thought that was very fitting. It's like I appear when you need me. I don't have a business Instagram for it. I just have my Instagram. So if you message me and I see it, then we have a conversation, then you get your stuff, like I don't sell at market. I don't, I mean, I have all the materials.
- 13:17Bri: So you just kind of have to know and it's all word of mouth.
- 13:20Diane Black: I Love that.
- 13:21Bri: And it's just like, when you really,
- 13:22Diane Black: Very authentic.
- 13:23Bri: Yeah, like when you really need me.
- 13:25Diane Black: You'll show up.
- 13:25Bri: Yeah, I show up when I needed. And like, that's it.
- 13:28Bri: It's some, like someone had said, oh, it's kind of exclusive. Like, it's exclusive in the sense that not everybody needs that assistance, or that that help. And my biggest thing is I want to empower people to understand they have their own magic, and they can do their own stuff, even on when I do like videos, or tic tocs or whatever.
- 13:43Bri: I show people how to do these things. Like I don't have like this like secret book. It's like I've lived a life. This is my information that you can do these you, here you go, here's your stuff, you can do it too.
- 13:55Bri: And I always tell people, you are your greatest magical tool, not me. So I'm really focused on empowering people to kind of own that. And some people are uncomfortable saying that they're witches or whatever. And that's when you don't have to, but every female needs to understand your boss as bitch, and you got to go get shit done.
- 14:11Bri: And that's where I am in, right?
- 14:14Bri: Like, I just like push you along a little bit.
- 14:17Trisha Smith: Yeah.
- 14:17Diane Black: But you, I will say that I love your model. And I thank you for what you're providing as a service. You may not see it that way. But it really is serving others.
- 14:28Bri: I appreciate that. Thank you. It's very humbling. Like I always want to be humble about everything like I, I read a lot.
- 14:34Bri: I study a lot. I interact with people a lot, but I just want people to understand like they are powerful too. And I actually do mentor a lot of like, I call them like baby witches. And some of them will come like crying like, Oh, so and so's I can't do this or that. I'm like, you just do what you want to do. Just do it. Like Yeah, you feel called to do and then just do it.
- 14:55Bri: There's a reason why that thought is in your head. There's a reason why you feel strongly call to do something.
- 15:00Diane Black: It's about building up the trust.
- 15:01Bri: Yeah.
- 15:02Diane Black: And that's what I say you serve, you are providing a service to people to encourage them to trust themselves and giving them tools. So thank you for that, it's beautiful.
- 15:10Bri: Thank your very much.
- 15:11Leyla Zmeskal: And sometimes you just need to be told, just just go do it. Don't be afraid and what's the worst that can happen? You know, it doesn't work out. Okay, great. Well, at least you said you've tried it.
- 15:21Trisha Smith: Right.
- 15:21Diane Black: Absolutely.
- 15:21Bri: I do feel like, so I have friends who are currently pregnant, and they're like, I can't even talk to my family about it. Because if I say anything, and it goes against what anybody wants, like, there's this huge fight. I'm like, I don't care. You want to go birth in the woods go birth
- 15:32Diane Black: Go birth in the woods.
- 15:33Bri: Yeah, like, I have seen it all. I feel like I have done it in the woods, you want t birth in the hospital, I don't all. And I used to be a Doula.
- 15:35Bri: So like, I have like, these are. You want to breastfeed, n t breastfeed, circumcise, not c rcumise? I don't care, I don't care that's your business.
- 15:47Bri: lists of like, this clients, and they're all pregnant, and they're all like, what do you think about this? Like, what are you, I'm like, here's what I think, I was like, I also don't care what you do. Do what you want to do, like this is my experience, but I'm like, it is not my job to take off my camera lens of experience and put it on your camera. Now, if you ask me, I can share. But I'm not gonna sit here and just be like, well, you got to see it through my lens, like cuz that's silly,
- 16:11Trisha Smith: Right.
- 16:12Bri: So, I do feel like, I get put in a situation where I know a lot about people even like strangers, just randomly, like, come up to me. I just roll with it, and my partner's like, do you know them? Like, never met them in my life. But it's the energy that you give out because you become like a beacon and whether people are energetically inclined or not, like they just feel like, oh, I feel you can talk to that person.
- 16:34Trisha Smith: Right.
- 16:34Bri: You know.
- 16:35Trisha Smith: I get that a lot with old people, like old people like to talk to me. You know, I'll be in the store, and they'll just start a conversation, and then they want to show me pictures, and then they want to tell me about their like, especially with old people.
- 16:50Diane Black: They're attracted to you.
- 16:51Trisha Smith: They are, but it's always been like, that's who I attract, you know, like when we're out, old people will just come up to me and start talking.
- 16:58Trisha Smith: But when I talk to people randomly, people tend to say more than they intended to, to me. Have you noticed that?
- 17:08Diane Black: Yes. Do you see this look? Yes.
- 17:13Trisha Smith: Diane used to always say, it's not too late for you to be a psychologist.
- 17:17Diane Black: Yeah,
- 17:17Trisha Smith: I don't want to put myself in that position where I listen. But it tends to happen a lot with me. I don't know why. But I also again,
- 17:29Diane Black: You're very engaging, you're very connected.
- 17:32Diane Black: You, you you're very present.
- 17:32Diane Black: And I think people will find like that a comfort and like this opens up the door. She's still engaged with me, maybe I'll tell her a little bit more.
- 17:43Bri: Yeah,
- 17:44Diane Black: And she's got so much wisdom.
- 17:45Trisha Smith: Well, I do find it interesting. Like when people just kind of open themselves up.
- 17:49Trisha Smith: I'm, like, really, tell me more, i'm not gonna deny that I'm, you know, I'm the Gladys Kravitz, who's, you know, so when people are like, here, I'm gonna tell you all my things. I'm like, Okay, let me grab a glass of yo know, whatever, and yeah, t lk a
- 18:10Bri: There is something about if you're naturally curious, I feel like you do attract. Because I'm always like learning new things new people taught like, it's to the point now where I pretty much go anywhere of my like, my usual route. They're like, hey, Bri, how's it go, i'm like, Oh, hey. I feel like I come here so often and people just talk, but I think there is an energy if you are a very naturally curious person. You meet those people that are just they want to talk.
- 18:32Trisha Smith: Yeah,
- 18:32Bri: And I'm like.
- 18:33Trisha Smith: Absolutely.
- 18:33Bri: Yeah. What else am I gonna do?
- 18:34Trisha Smith: Yeah,
- 18:35Diane Black: Yeah, I agree.
- 18:36Trisha Smith: Yeah, 100% with that.
- 18:38Diane Black: Definitely.
- 18:39Leyla Zmeskal: Well, we like that you let, you like to talk because we like hearing you.
- 18:42Diane Black: We do.
- 18:43Leyla Zmeskal: Cuz I like hearing you know, you're take and perspective on things. Very, very refreshing.
- 18:48Bri: Oh, thank you.
- 18:49Leyla Zmeskal: So one thing I know Trisha has been asking a lot and a couple of our, I mean, we have said this, you have said this more than once in episodes.
- 18:57Trisha Smith: Right. It started with your friend's visit to that house.
- 19:02Diane Black: Oh, your Texas, t e one who lives just right cross, we share the same bod of water f
- 19:07Leyla Zmeskal: Oh yeah. I thought it was the school in Jacksonville?
- 19:11Trisha Smith: I don't know.
- 19:11Leyla Zmeskal: I don't know, that's what happens when you get
- 19:12Trisha Smith: But, my burning question. You know, you watch old.
- 19:15Trisha Smith: movies, you read books, you listened to people talk about being possessed, you know, they're possessed. That's why they act like this or like that.
- 19:21Trisha Smith: And they always blame it on a And Bri said, I have some insight on this if you'd like to demon or the devil or Satan you're possessed by and so go me thinking, talking abou different things. If but, f you're a Satanist or if you'r, you know, not a Christian, c n you still be possesse know. And I was like, yes, we would, Bri.
- 19:49Trisha Smith: I am waiting.
- 19:49Diane Black: Her pining question for a long time.
- 19:51Bri: Yeah, I, I do have a lot of insight. So number one, true satanist don't even really believe in the devil, which I find really fascinating. They do believe in indulgence over abstinence and bodily autonomy and you know, being compassionate to all living things. They're like justice warriors. They're like the real activists in the religious world. Like, I know in other religions, you donate money and you never see it. They're like, Oh, no, no, no, we you're going Oh.
- 20:15Bri: to watch us, like they go t court. They're going after th abortion thing. They're lik they're hardcore there is the don't even really have mystical element. So the Satani So there's two. Anton Levey did the Church of Satan, and that's Temple is also different tha the Church of Satan. So th church of Satan.
- 20:33Bri: a little bit more mystical and magical, but again, still not devil worshipping. And they're very much indulgence over abstinence. Now, the Satanic Temple, which was maybe like 10 years old, something like that.
- 20:42Bri: They are like, they broke off from that, but like, we're focusing on actually being like, we want to help mankind, we want to be better. We want to make sure that everyone has rights, they are the justice warriors.
- 20:55Bri: So there is no worship of Satan out are there like young kids, and everyone's like, Oh, I worship Satan, and I'm doing this. Yeah, those people are not super educated, but it's very, like media driven. So even like, so I have a Baphomet in my bedroom.
- 21:10Diane Black: Explain.
- 21:10Bri: Um, so a Baphomet is like, it's kind of like that horn.
- 21:13Bri: Have you ever seen like Sabrina, it's like the horned God situation. People always think, oh, that's the devil. Fun fact, not the devil. If you actually read like demonology, and even the Bible, they're kind of like, it's like a foot soldier King situation. But a lot of people, if you actually look at this icon, it's all about alchemy. So Satanism is all about, you break down something, only to rebuild it into something else with the tools that you are given. And it's to empower those who are in this religion to be better. And that's the whole goal. Like it even says, If you fuck up, you know, they don't say fuck up, but they say if you fuck up, you better fix it like bottom line, like you better apologize. You make it right, the best way that you can. It also acknowledges that humans are completely fallible, they make mistakes, they don't know everything, and that's also part of the issue as well. So, when it comes to those possession stories, be, having dealt people who are actually possessed, they have out of, once they were like cleanse and exercised, they have no recollection of anything. You could talk to them about you did this. I don't know. They won't blame it on anyone. They literally have no idea. They're completely disconnected from the reality of where we are. They can't tell you and it's like a complete blackout. Like, well, I don't know, I woke up, I did this last thing I remember. And then that's it. And then they remember waking up, and then they go about their day, and most people who are actually possessed, or and it's not like super common either. And the reason why it happens in general is if you think about water, right? Like if you play like a certain song, you don't like the water molecules change, right?
- 22:51Bri: Well, we're 75% water. So it's bound to happen that some kind of entity, because we're all energies, like, Oh, this looks like a place where I can inhabit and there's no protection or they're just like going about their day, I'm going to go in here and I'm going to start planting some seeds and doing some things. And you can actually look and like there's there's brain activity, but they could be sitting still. And all their brain could just be like lay the whole thing could be lit up. So that's what's really if you break it down to the science of what it actually is, that's what it looks like, a lot of movies make it seem like, I don't know, we're like climbing on the walls and shit. Like, no, like, there's some really scary shit out there. And it can be very terrifying. And these people are like they're just bodies are completely mangled after all of this, but it's not very common. And it's usually because someone did something they're not supposed to do and my favorite is when someone starts playing with like Ouija boards, or they're doing like they're some,
- 23:47Leyla Zmeskal: Diane gets her eyes big and she's like, no, that's a no for me.
- 23:52Bri: Yeah, and like and the it's really the summoning Oh, everyone thinks they can just summon whatever it is they want.
- 23:57Bri: They don't even know latin and I'm like, what do you what are you doing? Like anything? Even if you didn't believe in something, it's still It doesn't mean doesn't exist. Something believes in you enough, and that's all that you need. You might think it's all bullshit.
- 24:11Bri: You give me like like, Oh, it's all bullshit, whatever. I'm gonna say whatever. And then someone's like, you thought bitch, and like and then you ave a situation. So yes, s Satanist who are actual lik practicing Satanists, which b the way, way more people tha, they trust me they're not li e all golf like new wave looking people. I know people who a e very, very successful very we l off. They were dad khaki pan s and like baseball caps a d they're Satanists, they don't o anything ritualistic. They're ust like, no, I believe that eing compassion. I believe in eing apologetic. I believe in nowledge, like I believe in odily autonomy. That's huge. I mean, it's huge. It's the fastest growing religion.
- 24:50Diane Black: Really?
- 24:51Bri: Yeah.
- 24:52Leyla Zmeskal: Wow.
- 24:52Bri: That's really fascinating.
- 24:53Diane Black: So, you just triggered a thought. How is it that they classify themselves as a religion?
- 24:58Bri: So, in order should be considered like a church situation you just file for like the nonprofit organization and you have to have,
- 25:05Diane Black: I mean on a philosophical level. So are they just use that?
- 25:08Bri: I think they use it as I mean, yeah, they could.
- 25:10Bri: But when you think about what
- 25:10Diane Black: 501C3 is, what actually makes a religion, you have a group of Absolutely, I agree to that.
- 25:17Diane Black: members who have one collective thought. This is what we believe in, and then you argue for it, and then it passes. Like, that's pretty much it. You can make your religion about anything.
- 25:27Diane Black: Like this is the religion of Bud Light, you know? Like, it doesn't matter whether you believe in it or not like you can, you literally can make a religion about anything. The difference, I think, with the Satanic Temple is they've done such a great job of like, making it valid. They're like, no, like, we like there was a few cases where there were a lot of rape victims, and they couldn't get their voices heard. They're like, we will fund that for you.
- 25:49Diane Black: Like, we will get lawyers for you, you will get your justice, they are so big, like poverty is a huge issue. They're like, well, how can we raise funds?
- 25:58Diane Black: How can we donate to people, let's get them to where they need to go. And it's also about creating a safe space like no one's turned away. Gender, what you like, your sexuality da, da, a, like, you want to talk ab ut people who go hardcore agai st pedophiles, they go hardco e, like, because they violates one of their principles there.
- 26:13Diane Black: hat means you did something aga nst someone's bodily autonomy and they're, they're coming for you and they're gonna gun for ou, and they don't give up eit er, because they have a rea ly. Lucian has such a, he's li e the leader of the satanic tem le, has such a great way w th like empowering people, but n a non cult like way. He's l ke, no, this is the right thi g to do, you help people bottom ine. And if you're doing somethi g that's not helping othe people, because instead of it being so focused on the self they're focused on like, grea er good. And sometimes I'm like, Oh, that sounds a little culty But I'm like, but they als do some really awesome things like you kind of, it's a very mixed bag. And I think peop e are very like, ugh, against it because if you grew up Christia, oh, the devil is like, numbe one enemy. But the reason is is because you need, the You know.
- 27:00Diane Black: est way to unify someone is, y u find a villain, and Ch istianity found a villain. Bec use I always tell peopl, people are very surprised to ind out I went to Catholic sch ol, but I've read the Bible mult ple times. And if you actually break down, like, let's say, he New King James Version, the devil is actually never heard nyone except Jobe, and that was ith the consent of God being li e, Yeah, go ahead, torture him and he's still not gonna flip a witch. And the way the Satanic T mple sees Satan is why would a od want you to not understand hings and they see the serpent a like, he gave you know edge, knowledge is impo tant. Knowledge is everything Why would you not want to make informed decisions about your body? Why would Eve, why does he have to mate with Adam Why can't Eve cover herself up?
- 27:41Diane Black: Like, why can't they know hat information? And they're v ry much a discerning pragmatic r ligion. And they say it reli ion kind of loosely, because it s kind of like we're not, ou know, they're not they're mor like of an activist group. Bu I mean, if the shoe fits, you now, is added to the collecti n. So I think that's how they get away with all of those t ings. And people are just, I lo e surprising people, cuz I'm, ike, God, like wiped out whol races in the Bible, lik, like, Oh, you guys drinking oo much boom, flood, you know, l ke, it's just crazy. Like, nd that's why I tell pe ple, like you can be Christia and you can do your own thing.
- 28:21Diane Black: But at least you got to know a l the things, like if you're gon a so devoutly believe in some hing. I just feel like Satanis s are some of the nicest peo le I have ever met in my entire ife, and boy, do I get a lot of irty looks, from a lot of hristians. But then I get christ ans that are super awesome, t o. So it's like, I try to be just as discerning with I mea, if you're a shit person, your a shit person no matter w at you believe in. If you're a d cent person, you're a decen person. Like I think that's the
- 28:49Leyla Zmeskal: Before you came over, you sent us a link to the Satanic Temple, and on their very, when I first opened it up, it was their tenants. And I was reading some to everybody, and I was very surprised on their seven fundamental tenants, nothing that I would expect, you know, in and lot of them. I'm like, how can I actually believe in that? You know, that's one of the things that I believe in doing and I think we're gonna post it and I think a lot of people will be very, very surprised,
- 29:21Diane Black: That's a good idea.
- 29:21Diane Black: I do too.
- 29:22Leyla Zmeskal: On their fundamental tenets. I know, I was and I would never, I never would have researched that unless you sent that to us because that was one of the things that we want to ask you.
- 29:29Leyla Zmeskal: It's very, very eye opening.
- 29:33Bri: It's the power of social media and the media in general.
- 29:33Diane Black: It really is.
- 29:36Diane Black: The Satanic panic. Same thing with like, reefer madness, it's Manic Panic. Once that took a hold, it really, it's like groupthink mentality. People want to vill, like they want a villain,
- 29:47Trisha Smith: Right.
- 29:48Bri: So, if drugs are the villain, oh, someone did something stupid because he was on pot. And like, I remember like, someone told me the other day like, Oh my god, you're horrible because you know, you do weed and I'm like, Well, first of all, I'm an,
- 29:59Diane Black: Someone said that to you?
- 29:59Bri: Not to me, they said it into the ether of Facebook. I'm
- 30:00Leyla Zmeskal: Right.
- 30:01Bri: But if you do it in a way where you're like, pragmatic like, Well, first of all, I was like, I'm a very functional pothead. I was like I do very well for myself. I was like, I have children. Like, I'm very intelligent. So you're saying I'm, I'm horrible and lazy, because I don't take opioids because that's so much bette, necessary for some people. B t you know, that's so much bette. But you know, this natural thi g, that nature, that you can gro in nature, totally healing, and with no, like, long term, like detriment to your body. Y s, I can understand why you'd e so perplexed as to obviousl and Yes. Are some people uper relaxed? Absolutely. But eah, if you're if you wake and ake, and then you're taking s ch a high dosage, yeah, y u're probably not going to get much done that day.
- 30:48Bri: about it, oh my gosh, I could be in like, blinding pain and like, my whole day is not ruined, like I can do, all the things I have to get done and be functioning.
- 30:57Diane Black: I'm not there yet.
- 30:57Diane Black: I can't, I have a medicinal mar juana card. But I can't, I can't do it during the day. I ca only do it
- 31:05Bri: You might you might like the mints, but I it's, it's about finding like that dose. It makes a huge difference. So that's why is, it really is it's the media, they're like they want to push something because, they don't want everyone to think. If you just jump on something you don't think, oh my gosh, that's perfect. Like just jump on it. Yes, come on sheep, let's do this.
- 31:23Leyla Zmeskal: Wow we're not seeing anything like that lately
- 31:24Bri: Yeah. Not at all.
- 31:25Bri: in the media.
- 31:30Leyla Zmeskal: No, I don't know what, this is such an odd topic right here..
- 31:32Bri: I know. And that's why I think it's so funny, because,
- 31:33Trisha Smith: Right.
- 31:36Trisha Smith: you know, we want to promote, you know, this country, you know, freedom of church and state and like this country is founded on like, religious extremists, because they don't like their religion over on that side of, you know, they want to do their own crazy stuff. It's like we first make thieves and then we punish them. Like, we're not giving everyone the proper tools and the autonomy, just do what you want to do. Yes, but also don't be an asshole. Th nk about other people also, li e just, think for like a s cond. And I get it. I u
- 32:00Bri: And that's what I find so fascinating about, because real derstand why most people are v ry distrusting, because you on't know what to believe. Hal the government lies you, than t e other half tries to tell t e truth, but then there's mor, you know, lies your employers o it. Like there's a lot of lyi g going on, because nobody wan s to be in trouble. Nobody wan s to take responsibility. Y u don't want to be accountabl. That's that's humans. You don t want to be in trouble, so o speak. So of course, you' e going to pass on the buck. It s this it's weeds fault. It's Sa ans fault, it's a demon fault.
- 32:26Bri: I did. Like no, Karen, you're a ucking asshole. And that's hy you broke that fucking window You're not possessed, you b oke the window on your own becau e you didn't like like the wi dow curtain. Like, I don't lik it's like, that's, that's huma.
- 32:42Bri: Satanists, they're just they don't, no, they're not gonna like I was possessed, no, they don't even believe in that.
- 32:47Bri: That's not their thing.
- 32:48Diane Black: So interesting.
- 32:50Trisha Smith: So they could be possessed if they, if they believed in that?
- 32:53Bri: if they believed in, yeah, f they believed in demonic poss ssion. Yeah. But then it s also interesting, because if you actually, if yo study demonology, and you stu y like the actual like case stu ies. So Catholics have like, it s like, written down, it's v ry hush hush, and there is, here are some it's like wri ten down like, this is what happ ned. And it's always the most u assuming person, it's always li e a kid, because children ar so much easier, because what d they do imaginary friends. The're like these little pure b acons of lights. And they just t ey're in a very, their energie in like a very dark room, an they just shine brightly.
- 33:29Bri: So no matter what entity, it i good or bad, perceived. They ant to go towards that thing So of course, they have im ginary friends, and they t lk and they're not imaginary, hey're actually quite real. A d it's interesting, because c ildren until you tell them m nsters aren't real. This isn' real. Everything they see is re l. And that's why children do ha e such an interesting, it's ike no honesty filter, it's fan astic. They really do see like, Oh, so and so said X, Y an Z and they're talking about yo know, this entity and it's a tually children the most to get possessed, so to speak because they're just so open And you have to be open to it, too. Because you humans ar portals as well. I mean, especi lly with women like we bring in ife, you are legitimately portal, you're bringing in ano her like energy being so and t's also more women than men, they get possessed too. So it's just one of those fa
- 34:24Diane Black: Wealth of knowledge you are.
- 34:26Trisha Smith: Yeah.
- 34:26Bri: Years of study.
- 34:27Diane Black: Yes.
- 34:28Bri: And experience.
- 34:29Diane Black: Yeah, the best kinds of.
- 34:30Leyla Zmeskal: So on those rare occasions where there is possession, how is it referred to is it demonic percent possession or what is actually the entity that's possessing the the person?
- 34:44Bri: So usually they just say entity because it could literally be like a lost soul like that wants to finish something, could be, could have the strength to do that. And the thing with a lot of possessions is it's sometimes it's a very, it's an older entity. It's like practice. Like, let's say you want to The Olympics, well, Little Johnny in kindergarten doesn't possess the skill or talent yet to go to the Olympics, right? You have to train for years, you have to do all this stuff, right? So imagine entities also have the same concept. But you know, in the blink of an eye could be 1000 years for them, because there's no sense of time. So it's the same concept. It's usually something that's very old and very whatever that would be even be able to be capable,
- 35:24Leyla Zmeskal: To have that much.
- 35:25Bri: Yeah. Cuz you need a lot.
- 35:25Bri: Like, even like Poltergeist, ghost situation. It's usually someone like, it's Oh, and the reason why have you ever noticed that so many ghost stories, everything, they're like, Oh, 100 years ago, because it takes them 100 years to figure out how to knock a glass off the shelf, you know what I mean? Like, it takes a long time. Unless, you know, unless you're just naturally gifted. Like, that's why a lot of those things like it's, they just say entities really, you don't know what it is, it could be a ghost from, like, 150 years ago that's been practicing. And or it could aim it or it could be some type of entity that's 1000s of years old. But it's like rare, you know what I mean? Like they have other shit to do. Like you have to be really special. You must possess, you have to possess something that's very unique to them. They're like, I want that and then you know, all hell breaks loose, so to speak. Or it could be heaven. We don't know.
- 36:16Bri: There are some people that argue that angels are just as fierce as demons. So,
- 36:19Diane Black: Yeah,
- 36:19Leyla Zmeskal: I've heard that before.
- 36:20Diane Black: Yeah, me too.
- 36:21Leyla Zmeskal: I've heard that that's.
- 36:22Bri: So it's it really, is it's whatever happens happen.
- 36:25Diane Black: Yeah.
- 36:27Leyla Zmeskal: That's very interesting.
- 36:28Diane Black: Well, there you go, Trisha. There's your answer.
- 36:30Leyla Zmeskal: I know.
- 36:30Diane Black: You got it.
- 36:31Trisha Smith: It is a good one.
- 36:32Bri: Yeah,
- 36:34Trisha Smith: You've provoking different way of looking at things from now on. Now. I'm going to have to say, you know, when we're talking about things and people say in the story, because there's been a lot of, you know, ghost stories that we do or a lot of things that we do and they'll say, you know, satanist came in there and they've done this and they done this and like, Damn, satanist ruin everything. I can no longer say that, I will never be, I will never say that again.
- 36:58Bri: But like when you think about it, though, like the Charles Manson situation like satanic panic, 60s and 70s.
- 37:05Bri: Totes, make sense why, like they needed to,
- 37:07Diane Black: LSD
- 37:07Bri: Yeah, they needed like to villainize someone, but there you go. And it makes sense.
- 37:10Bri: Instead of just being like, when these people are mentally unwell. They were ostracized from community, and then you have someone who's super charismatic. It's like, let's just do this,
- 37:19Trisha Smith: Right.
- 37:20Bri: And they'll be like, Oh, yeah, we should, because nobody uses that discerning thought about anything. And that's why in the occults community, and you know, even like the spooky stories, I'm like, but did it though. I'll go all in with you.
- 37:35Bri: Like, I'll do cryptid talk. We were talking about mothman, you want to talk about Bigfoot, like, I'll go in and I want to listen. But I also want to observe, but yes, at the end of the day, you have to have some kind of faith on something, even the atheist has to have faith that nothing exists. So no matter what it is, you believe in life, you have faith in that thing. And it's like, a lot of ghost stories and having been around it, like literally my entire life. I am a little bit more like, Huh, because I've grown up in such, you know, an unusual way with unusual things, which I thought were very normal, and they are not. So when people tell me things, I'm like, like, I don't want to be like, that's not true, or that is true. I want to be like, Well, let me listen. And then you know, it is what it is. I also have to think about how much energy am I really wanting to invest into, like proving this or not proving it.
- 38:23Bri: Sometimes people just like to talk I'm like, Okay, and then I will just assume that I believe or disbelieve, I'm just I just hear it's like, I take everything with neutrality. And I just feel like, if we stopped reacting, just to everything, there was no reaction there was just like this downtime. You would think about things differently if you were not so focused on your own personal reaction. Like I can feel like, assholes clenched when I talk about Satanism. People are like, and I get, like, of course, you're indoctrinated to believe like, he's the devil, he's horrible. He's gonna call you out. You don't want to go to hell. I mean, it's still happy.
- 38:58Bri: I totally get it. But what's really interesting is when you present it in a way, like, I'm not trying to convert you, I'm just like, Hey, here's some information. They're like, Oh,
- 39:07Diane Black: You're just trying to educate.
- 39:08Bri: Yeah, like, oh, I'm like, Oh, this is a little different.
- 39:11Bri: Doesn't mean you got to jump on board. I'm gonna ask you to like, come join my. Like, I'm not even a Satanist. People think I am. And I'm not. I just think it's really funny. Because it's just a topic that I'm like, oh, someone's telling me not to do something. And I grew up I didn't was at this Catholic school. Oh, you bet your ass I'm gonna be doing all the things.
- 39:27Bri: I'm gonna be investigating and like, because that's what you're supposed to do. That's why we are intelligent beings are supposed to investigate. I don't have a thesis and then try to make my evidence fit that, I just have evidence. And then this is this is it. That's the bottom line. And I think if more people did that, you would be able to have a lot more. I think engaging and interesting conversations about things instead of like, it is true.
- 39:48Bri: It's not true. Yeah. Like let it all that go.
- 39:52Leyla Zmeskal: I think like what you said earlier, is that there always has to be some type of villain and no matter what subject, you know is happening right then, there's always something that has to be presented as the villain, so that way they can create this appearance of we have to rally behind this to to separate people. But like you said, if people just had their own intellectual thoughts, and have the ability and the confidence to sit there and go, well, wait a minute, this doesn't really make sense of what I'm being told, let me find out for myself, I think people would be a lot more open to things that they normally would not be necessarily exposed to in their regular life.
- 40:33Bri: Absolutely.
- 40:34Trisha Smith: But I think too many people are afraid of going against the grain.
- 40:39Bri: Yep.
- 40:39Trisha Smith: You know,
- 40:40Bri: I agree with that.
- 40:41Trisha Smith: I think, that is the bigger fear for a lot of people, then the truth or not, you know,
- 40:48Diane Black: I agree.
- 40:49Trisha Smith: Disagreeing and being told you're wrong, or you shouldn't be thinking like that, or you should be doing this because this is the way we're thinking, right now.
- 40:59Diane Black: I think that starts as a child.
- 41:02Trisha Smith: Absolutely.
- 41:02Diane Black: You get conditioned in this fundamental years, and then it just flows out.
- 41:06Trisha Smith: You have to listen to the voice of authority.
- 41:08Diane Black: Right.
- 41:08Trisha Smith: Whether it's church or state, parents, teachers, anybody in authority, you have to listen to them, and if you don't, then you're wrong.
- 41:18Bri: Right.
- 41:19Trisha Smith: And you're bad.
- 41:21Bri: And I think it's interesting, because then I had someone tell me like to me, like, Oh, you just hate Christians. Like, actually, I actually think Jesus is pretty cool. And here's why. Like, if you just go based off a book, like I'm just reading a character in a book, right? He loves sex workers, he was pro women's rights. He seemed like a dude, that's one of the being like, Oh, we have water to drink. That's lame. He's a frat boy, let's make it to wine, that super lame. Like, let's do this.
- 41:45Bri: Like, if you actually look at what he's doing, he was very humble. That's all fantastic.
- 41:53Bri: But for some reason, then we like gloss over, like all the other stuff in the Bible. And even like, the things that he that he does, I'm like, this feels weird. It's because we have this attachment to what we believe, is good. And the thing is, is we all believe in different things. I mean, it's very cherry picky, and I get it, because with anything, you always want to cherry pick, because that's what sounds best.
- 42:14Bri: Can you imagine if these mega churches, if they're like half their congregations, like I don't know about this and stop like donating money? Wow, no more mega churches, you know, and they might even have to pay taxes or, you know, they might not imagine if you took that money from a church and you just directly donated to wherever, right? Huge you would make such an impact to people. Right? And that doesn't make you less of a Christian and makes you like more of a christian right?
- 42:40Bri: Because you're like, that's what Jesus would do. You'd be like, how can I wrote all these people up to be like, let's go help the hungry and feed the homeless and you know, stop trying to like massacre these damn sex workers.
- 42:49Bri: They're awesome. We don't know what he was up to. Like, we have men who wrote a book, very leaning towards men, and then we wonder why things are the way that they are. Because I mean, if anything men should be terrified of women because like we kind of can do it all,
- 43:07Trisha Smith: Right,
- 43:07Bri: Like, at this point, we can do it all.
- 43:11Trisha Smith: We're a portals of light.
- 43:11Diane Black: Right.
- 43:11Bri: Yeah, we're portals of light. Like we, I mean, I mean imagine as a female if you even if you look at the Bible, you look at Eve, she did, she went through the wringer. She went through all this shit. And what because she finally like, had a thought. She literally, if you think about she was penalised, cuz she had a thought, like, well, wait a minute, why can't we do this? Why, you know, and I resonate with that I think my entire life I've been so against, I was always in trouble in school. I'll be real honest with you. I was always in principal's office, I was always in trouble,
- 43:42Diane Black: Your preaching to the quior, girl.
- 43:43Bri: All the time, but they couldn't say anything to me cuz I got straight A's. So it was like, I was like,
- 43:47Diane Black: Never mined
- 43:49Leyla Zmeskal: And that's where the difference ends.
- 43:51Bri: It's that gifted kid like you, you know, I'm just like, I don't need to work this hard. So I'm going to cause all this havoc. And it really is because I was like thinking at such a young age, so critically about certain things. I'm like, Well, why does that have to be like that? Why can't we do this? Why?
- 44:07Bri: You know, and I think people are afraid to like, because not everybody has thick skin. Not everybody wants to be in the opposing party. Not everybody wants to have explain themselves. Imagine if you're super introverted, you have high anxiety, and you don't believe in like the mainstream of things, you're not going to get up there and defend yourself.
- 44:25Bri: That would be so uncomfortable and probably even more traumatizing if you just nodded and smiled. I don't nod and smile so it's fine with me. So I'll say all the things and do all the things but it's also with like, it's so ingrained into me for some reason because my parents are not like that no one in my family except my gram.
- 44:40Bri: Gram probably more like that.
- 44:43Bri: But I was just like, I don't give a fuck, like this is crazy.
- 44:46Bri: Like, you just you, you natural, there's some people who are just naturally meant to go against the grain but it's to reveal the wizard behind the curtain to be like, look at all this stuff.
- 44:57Bri: Like you can do all the things and that's how I feel like I see myself too.
- 45:02Leyla Zmeskal: There is, you don't have to find safety in numbers. You don't have to go with what everybody is thinking.
- 45:09Leyla Zmeskal: You know, just do you.
- 45:10Trisha Smith: Yeah.
- 45:10Bri: Just do you.
- 45:11Leyla Zmeskal: And there is a lot of criticism for, for people who necessarily, well, why aren't you doing this? Everybody else's? What's wrong with you?
- 45:18Leyla Zmeskal: You are insensitive. You are the one that's wrong and doing well.
- 45:21Leyla Zmeskal: Why, Why? Why am I wrong?
- 45:25Leyla Zmeskal: Because isn't it my choice? It's my choice to do this just like it's your choice to practice whatever you want to, so why is, why is my decision wrong, and your decision is Right,
- 45:36Bri: Right.
- 45:37Trisha Smith: Right.
- 45:37Bri: I have an IT doormat. So I think that speaks volumes about
- 45:37Diane Black: We can find examples of that. I don't know why it's just came into my head, like even down to the the minute things like, what one of the things that we've noticed, like my husband and I, when we go on a walk, we you know, through our neighborhood or whatever, it's the whole like safety in numbers or believing with the mainstream is, every house has a welcom sign. It was a you Leyla, th t sent us that meme. And it w s like, welcome, welcome, welcom, and there's one house that w s like, get the fuck away. I lo e that. Because I mean, it s true, and it's even to the inute, like like, okay, she's g t a welcome sign, they got a w lcome sign, I need my welcome s gn. It starts with in childhood I think, and then giving the oundation to find the strengt to to be true to yourself. An to not feel like no, maybe that is your thing. Do you want to we come sign on your door you go g t that, but don't do it just bec use you saw ABC D neighbor t me.
- 46:38Diane Black: Yeah.
- 46:39Trisha Smith: I got my question answered. All through that.
- 46:43Trisha Smith: Yeah. And then I learned a whole bunch other stuff along the way.
- 46:47Diane Black: Right.
- 46:48Trisha Smith: So, yeah. So I'm pretty.
- 46:50Leyla Zmeskal: Definitely, you know, post the, their seven fundamental tenants.
- 46:55Leyla Zmeskal: On there, I think a like a lot of people are gonna
- 46:55Trisha Smith: Yeah.
- 46:57Trisha Smith: find that very fascinating.
- 46:58Trisha Smith: Yeah. And the link to Bri's Instagram, if you want your own intention bottles, because didn't ask us anything about them. It was a complete surprise. And they're super spot on.
- 47:12Leyla Zmeskal: It's not all, she's not only doing intention bottles, but she's also baking.
- 47:16Trisha Smith: Oh I know.
- 47:17Bri: I do bake.
- 47:17Trisha Smith: It's not just baking, just your cooking in general. I mean, every time you post something, I'm like, I'm hungry. I'm hungry.
- 47:28Leyla Zmeskal: Now she's creating vegan cookies, and she's actually, you're actually selling them in town, locally.
- 47:35Bri: Yes, I sell them at the Falcon. The ones that they have are called the, final Girls, and the Final Girls are like very unassuming, yummy, vegan shortbread cookie with homemade vegan royal icing, and they're in the shape of a planchette.
- 47:49Bri: And sometimes they change the color and you know, kind of like, whatever, and I just like woke up one day and I'm just gonna start doing this, because I cook every day, all day. And I put so much intention and magic in to like my food, even like things that I even drink. So I'm just like, you don't think about how much of the mundane is really witchy and spell worky.
- 48:09Bri: And so even with my design, The Scarlet Letter, I used to be english teacher, so I love that.
- 48:12Bri: And I think being divorced and then being with, you know, this new person in my life. We've been here for two years now. And it's kind of like, you kind of have this weird, like energy because you're like, you're like the new person and in their life. And he's, you know, the new person in my life. And it's different. And I'd wanted to design a character like, what if we took this negative witchy person and you we made her modern. So I designed her dress and she's in a pinup out, then she has my glasses, and she has tattoos. And I think it's so cheeky to have like, I want to sell t shirts that like the A on them because I think it's fun.
- 48:48Bri: And I designed, so Nathaniel Hawthorne who wrote the book, she's holding Hawthorne berries.
- 48:51Bri: And that's very witchy and fun too. And to me, it's like, that is such a magical book and the design and the colors and if that's not going and that whole book is about group thing. You know, they said all these horrible things about this main character and then she was awesome.
- 49:08Trisha Smith: Yeah.
- 49:08Bri: So, I felt like that was very like empowering especially for females, and that's why I did The Scarlett Letter.
- 49:14Diane Black: I like that.
- 49:14Leyla Zmeskal: I love your, I love your logo. It's super cute.
- 49:17Trisha Smith: Yeah, I was just looking at it, and it's just so fun.
- 49:20Diane Black: It is, really creative.
- 49:21Leyla Zmeskal: Have you been have you started to ship you cookies, yet?
- 49:25Bri: So, I have tried, but it is not a good time to ship anything. Like I can do like perishables. I mean, the Postal Service will tell me one thing and then they get it's like a week and a half goes by.
- 49:37Diane Black: Oh my gosh.
- 49:38Bri: Because they lose it or something happens or it's just like unless I'm shipping it for like $20, like you're gonna get it the next day. I haven't really been promoting that cuz I just want to make it local.
- 49:49Diane Black: Right?
- 49:50Bri: For now and then you know if it becomes an even something bigger than yeah, I won't care about shipping things overnight for $20, but right now I do.
- 49:55Bri: Especially because at the rate that I would be doing it, it's just so much, it's so much baking. It's it's a lot of things. So I don't do that. But like all the, you know, non edible things. Yes, of course, that's not an issue, but not yet for the cookies. Even the flights were all the different flavors, that was like a one special event, we might do that like every month, but I am working on gluten free things.
- 50:19Diane Black: Yay.
- 50:19Bri: So that's going to be a thing. And I do some, but I really want to perfect it before I do it.
- 50:24Diane Black: Gluten free can be tricky.
- 50:26Bri: It can.
- 50:27Diane Black: Be very tricky.
- 50:27Bri: Especially for baking, food wise, that's super easy for me, so I try not to eat a lot gluten anyway. So food like, there are some times where I have like these meal prep containers and actually make people food and I meal prep them like fresh meals, and they're like, Oh, yeah, I'll pay you for like a meal. I don't I just don't advertise a lot. I kind of just meet the person first, I'm like, Oh, do you do this? I'm like, I don't know, do I do that? Do I want to do that right now? Like, yeah, that's why, it's kind of like, you know, and my partner is very business-y pragmatic. He's like you need to have a business plan, and I'm like, but so I though? I don't know what I'm gonna be doing yet. Like, if it gets so crazy that I really need to sit and buckle down then yeah, but right now, it's such a nice pace for me, right? And to have like my little weekly orders, and I can still do my other job. Like, it's nice. You know,
- 51:13Diane Black: And you enjoy it.
- 51:14Bri: Yeah, it's fun. And I think that my passion and my intention, and magic is so infused into this food that I want you to enjoy it not because it's vegan, but I want you to be like, this is good food. Like, I just want people to understand that. This food is delectable.
- 51:28Bri: And it's savory. And you know, there's so much flavor, and you're just you feel good when you eat it, because it's actually good food.
- 51:39Trisha Smith: Right.
- 51:39Bri: You know, and that's what I want people to be like, oh, this feels like a hug.
- 51:42Leyla Zmeskal: So if people want to find you on Instagram, and you're also on Facebook, it's the vegan underscore mystic.
- 51:51Bri: Yes, The underscore Vegan underscore Mystic.
- 51:54Leyla Zmeskal: On Instagram and you also do Tick Tock?
- 51:57Bri: I do have my Tick Tock is the same thing. I think there's no underscores at that one. But I usually post it onto my reels though. I'm, I'm kind of debating about me being more like a content creator too, because I do kind of enjoy doing that but, It takes a lot of time. And I'm kind of like, ah, I don't know, I'm trying to keep up with the times and understand it. But sometimes I feel a lot of it's kind of futile. I'm kind of like, this is silly.
- 52:18Trisha Smith: Things change every day.
- 52:20Diane Black: They do.
- 52:21Trisha Smith: I can't keep up. I don't pretend like I can keep They really do.
- 52:24Trisha Smith: up, and that's why I asked my daughter to do it.
- 52:27Leyla Zmeskal: And on top of everything else, you also do a podcast.
- 52:30Bri: I do. I took a little bit of a break from it. Because I'm like, I think I'm gonna start up again in spooky season. But yeah, I have that too.
- 52:37Trisha Smith: Yeah, I enjoy it.
- 52:39Diane Black: Yeah. Oh, I do too.
- 52:41Leyla Zmeskal: Yeah. I've even told people about your podcast.
- 52:44Bri: Oh, thank you.
- 52:44Trisha Smith: Yeah, we like it.
- 52:46Leyla Zmeskal: And I followed up, and they're like, no, I've listened. I'm like, Okay.
- 52:48Bri: I think I have at least one listener and 50% of the United States now, and then I have actually a little bit more than 3%, and then I have quite a few countries. But I also, because I do so many other things, like I just take a little bit of a break, and I'll come back to it and,
- 53:00Trisha Smith: Right.
- 53:01Bri: It is like a library for me, and for other people. They see it that way as well. So they're like, Oh, I can listen to this episode. Or, you know, I can do this. I'm like, Yeah,
- 53:10Trisha Smith: Yeah, it doesn't have to be in any specific order, just whatever. I mean, for me. I didn't listen to them in order, like I found according to how I was feeling for the day, but they're the perfect length between my house and my mom's, their 30 minutes. I started as soon as I pulling out of the driveway and it's done by the time I pull into hers, so.
- 53:30Bri: That's all I give.
- 53:30Trisha Smith: Yeah, that's just the right length.
- 53:32Diane Black: Alright.
- 53:33Leyla Zmeskal: Well, to find out more about Bri, check her out on her Instagram. I know that, you know she's willing we'll probably have her come back.
- 53:40Trisha Smith: Absolutely.
- 53:41Diane Black: Yes.
- 53:41Leyla Zmeskal: I know I would like it.
- 53:42Trisha Smith: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:44Diane Black: Same, same.
- 53:45Trisha Smith: Alright.
- 53:45Leyla Zmeskal: Alright.
- 53:46Trisha Smith: Well, until next time, thank you, Bri.
- 53:48Bri: Thank your for having me.
- 53:48Bri: Bye.
- 53:50Diane Black: Cheers.
- 53:50Leyla Zmeskal: Cheers.
