Speaker 1: The Madness of the month is here. Sixty four teams,
• 0:09
Speaker 1: a few locals, including of course Saint John's Hofstra l
• 0:13
  Speaker 1: i U Siena today also, I mean a lot of
• 0:17
Speaker 1: locals in the tournament. But let's start there round of
• 0:20
Speaker 1: sixty four. My pick at the beginning of it is
• 0:23
Speaker 1: Duke all the way. Is that a far off pick
• 0:25
Speaker 1: you guys or what I mean? I know you picked
• 0:27
  Speaker 1: Duke as well.
• 0:28
Speaker 2: Yeah, not terribly. I mean I had them and I'll
• 0:31
Speaker 2: just spoil my championship bracket here if I may Duke
• 0:34
Speaker 2: over Michigan, two absolute titans in their respective sides of
• 0:40
Speaker 2: the bracket. Now, this is kind of a bigoft for
• 0:42
Speaker 2: Duke because it really depends Alex on whether or not
• 0:45
Speaker 2: they're able to get healthy. I'm operating on the assumption
• 0:48
Speaker 2: that they will, and I mean, if they can go
• 0:52
Speaker 2: into the National Championship healthy as can be, it is
• 0:55
Speaker 2: theirs to lose, no question about it.
• 0:57
Speaker 3: That's it. I know, we were just talking a little
• 0:59
Speaker 3: bit show before this, Alex about Michigan's chance.
• 1:01
Speaker 2: Yeah, and if Duke's still with a lot of injuries
• 1:04
Speaker 2: on their end, don't be surprised that the Wolverines are
• 1:06
Speaker 2: making a run at the Natty.
• 1:07
Speaker 1: And they have the best, one of the best chances
• 1:09
Speaker 1: I think to make a run. What about you, Louis Well.
• 1:14
Speaker 4: Duke and Michigan at Michigan, and it seems like the consensus,
• 1:17
Speaker 4: even though there really is a consensus, is like twelve
• 1:19
Speaker 4: to fourteen teams that can win. Duke and Michigan. I
• 1:24
Speaker 4: am not fans of either, obviously. Michigan. I go back
• 1:27
Speaker 4: to April third, nineteen eighty nine, right on that controversial
• 1:32
Speaker 4: call at the end of the overtime, which seems while
• 1:35
  Speaker 4: leading by a point, Michigan's done the hate. He's a
• 1:38
  Speaker 4: terrific coach. He's a terrific coach, and he's done a
• 1:41
Speaker 4: great job. A Shire has done a great job with Duke.
• 1:44
Speaker 4: Duke has arguably the best player in the country in Boozer.
• 1:47
Speaker 4: Who might be you never know, we might be seeing
• 1:50
Speaker 4: Boozer next year on a nightly basis in Brooklyn. You know,
• 1:54
Speaker 4: as the nets are just as well. These NBA teams
• 1:57
Speaker 4: are just tanking to an embarrassingment level. But that's for
• 2:01
Speaker 4: another story that we'll get to maybe today, a huge story. Yeah,
• 2:06
Speaker 4: So Duke Arizona. You know, I think Saint John's has
• 2:14
Speaker 4: a chance because the one thing Patino was gonna tell them,
• 2:18
  Speaker 4: and I think, I think Saint John's got screwed. There's
• 2:22
Speaker 4: you tell me you win.
• 2:24
Speaker 3: What did they end up?
• 2:25
Speaker 4: Seventeen and one in the last eighteen games or eighteen
• 2:28
  Speaker 4: and one?
• 2:28
  Speaker 1: Yeah, yep.
• 2:29
Speaker 4: Now when now now, before analytics, it was always how
• 2:34
Speaker 4: you performed in your last ten twelve games would help you,
• 2:37
Speaker 4: which helped you got seated? Well, they were eighteen and
• 2:41
Speaker 4: one or seventeen and one. They won the regular season
• 2:44
Speaker 4: in Big East, They beat you cont twice, they beat
• 2:48
Speaker 4: you con two out of three, I mean, and they
• 2:53
Speaker 4: send them out to San Diego. U kon't gets the
• 2:57
Speaker 4: two seed. I do not believe Yukon is between a
• 3:01
Speaker 4: five and an eight.
• 3:02
Speaker 1: And I sell you, guys. I remember early on they
• 3:04
Speaker 1: were losing some games. Uh, and then the whole thing
• 3:07
Speaker 1: was while the non conference was weaker for Saint John's, Yes,
• 3:11
Speaker 1: they had a weaker non conference, but also I remember
• 3:14
Speaker 1: Yukon losing some games in the tournament play back in
• 3:17
Speaker 1: the beginning of the year. I mean, it wasn't a
• 3:18
Speaker 1: pretty sarp for them.
• 3:19
Speaker 4: So it Saint John's got screwed.
• 3:24
Speaker 1: They did, and look and look I'm not gonna get
• 3:27
Speaker 1: personal here, but I do think character wise, Patino's got character.
• 3:31
Speaker 1: I'm losing a little respect for herly. I had to
• 3:33
Speaker 1: say it, I like all along beause he just he's
• 3:36
Speaker 1: not he's got done that much of a character sometimes
• 3:39
  Speaker 1: on the court.
• 3:40
Speaker 4: Well, his court side demeanor might be the worst since
• 3:44
Speaker 4: the heyday of Bobby Knight. His court side demeanor during games.
• 3:48
Speaker 4: He isn't a fantastic basketball coach.
• 3:52
Speaker 1: I mean, fame, there's no doubt about it.
• 3:56
  Speaker 4: Yeah, but like.
• 3:59
Speaker 1: But like or what it was that led Utah yukond
• 4:02
Speaker 1: of be you know, seeded better. I just I don't.
• 4:05
  Speaker 1: I don't understand it. I don't even really accept.
• 4:10
Speaker 4: You're right, Alex. This the gap is what is just
• 4:13
Speaker 4: stunning to me. And he's a couple of others. I mean,
• 4:16
Speaker 4: I think Arkansas, you win the Southeast Conference championship, he
• 4:20
Speaker 4: had a four seed. I thought they were I thought
• 4:23
Speaker 4: they would get a three.
• 4:26
Speaker 1: You know, other than to the shows, A shout out
• 4:28
Speaker 1: to JOHNA who was from JOHNA Pearl from Nebraska. Look,
• 4:32
Speaker 1: Nebraska's got a great chance too. They have had a
• 4:34
Speaker 1: solid season all around. They could make a surprise run
• 4:38
  Speaker 1: here too.
• 4:38
Speaker 4: So they've never won an NCAA game. They never I
• 4:43
Speaker 4: saw them lose to Penn in a first round game
• 4:46
Speaker 4: back in probably Ryan wasn't even born yet. I don't
• 4:49
Speaker 4: think like two thousand and one. Uh they lost the Penn.
• 4:56
Speaker 4: Uh that that that that that year.
• 4:59
  Speaker 1: In the round.
• 5:00
Speaker 4: So they have never won a NCAA game. Hoiberg's a
• 5:03
Speaker 4: great coach. I mean he really is. And uh, I again,
• 5:09
Speaker 4: the tournament is about players. You have to have the
• 5:13
Speaker 4: players to win, but the tournament is about coaches. It's
• 5:16
Speaker 4: always been that way. College basketball has been about coaches.
• 5:19
Speaker 4: I mean we've seen it. Saint John's pre Patino. We
• 5:25
Speaker 4: know we carry their games all those years, Syracuse post Beheim.
• 5:32
Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what a mess that's been. Yeah, and
• 5:37
Speaker 1: but that and that's why Shire is so interesting because
• 5:39
Speaker 1: everybody thought, well, after coach k they're gonna fall apart.
• 5:42
Speaker 1: Shires really kept that program together since he took over,
• 5:45
Speaker 1: no doubt about it.
• 5:46
Speaker 4: Some way, if they always say, you don't want to
• 5:49
Speaker 4: be the guy who succeeds the the Hall of Famer,
• 5:53
Speaker 4: the iconic Coade, and you want to be the second guy,
• 5:57
Speaker 4: well Shire is disproving that formula because he's doing a
• 6:01
Speaker 4: great The guy's doing a great job. Yes, you know,
• 6:04
Speaker 4: Duke's revenues are off the charts, but he's done a
• 6:09
Speaker 4: hell of a job.
• 6:10
Speaker 3: He really, I want to say.
• 6:11
Speaker 1: In the a SEC though, I feel like the ACC
• 6:13
Speaker 1: in general is not a strong conference. How do they
• 6:15
Speaker 1: make it a stronger conference? It's just it seems like
• 6:18
Speaker 1: there's only a few teams and the rest are bottom
• 6:20
Speaker 1: of the barrel. And I had to hit that way.
• 6:21
Speaker 1: That's what it seems like.
• 6:22
Speaker 4: I mean, well it is. It's the truth right now.
• 6:25
Speaker 4: And remember up until twelve fifteen years ago, it was
• 6:30
Speaker 4: the conference. And when I was your age and Ryan's age,
• 6:34
Speaker 4: there was no other conference but the ACC. Yeah, so,
• 6:40
Speaker 4: but you're right, I think the Big twelve the SEC
• 6:45
Speaker 4: are are the I mean, excuse me, the Big ten,
• 6:48
Speaker 4: the Big twelve in the SEC, they's a strong conference.
• 6:51
Speaker 4: The Big twelve is like off the charts and.
• 6:54
Speaker 1: We're not doing any led courts this this around and
• 6:56
Speaker 1: sixty fourt right, that was only one thing. Yeah, look
• 6:59
Speaker 1: out trying that. It was kind of weird.
• 7:01
Speaker 4: Actually, had twelve tried that glass fiberglass court which I
• 7:05
Speaker 4: guess they use in Europe, and.
• 7:07
Speaker 1: I slippery for the guys.
• 7:09
Speaker 4: Well, yes, all right.
• 7:10
Speaker 2: I mean you're not going to get the same traction
• 7:12
Speaker 2: on a glass cord as opposed to just your typical
• 7:15
Speaker 2: park hardwood floors or anything like that. And I mean,
• 7:19
Speaker 2: especially for these these college stars, like you need that
• 7:23
Speaker 2: traction on the floor one way or another. I mean,
• 7:25
Speaker 2: whiles are they wiping their shoes and stuff on the sideline.
• 7:30
Speaker 1: It was insane before they check in.
• 7:32
Speaker 4: Well, apparently Commissioner your Mark at the Big twelve wanted
• 7:39
Speaker 4: heard that one of the other conferences was going to
• 7:42
Speaker 4: use that use a cord a fiberglass core and he
• 7:45
Speaker 4: wanted to be the first one.
• 7:48
Speaker 2: Well it sounds about right, though, considering that Luta, just
• 7:51
Speaker 2: to get off topic for five seconds here, it's so
• 7:54
Speaker 2: on brand for Brett your Mark, considering he was the
• 7:56
Speaker 2: same guy who told Islander fans ten years ago that, oh,
• 8:00
Speaker 2: you can just watch the game.
• 8:01
Speaker 1: On your phone, on your phone, on your phone.
• 8:04
Speaker 2: Well you're not fired up about that even ten years
• 8:07
  Speaker 2: after the.
• 8:07
Speaker 4: Well, you know, I know him very well.
• 8:09
Speaker 1: I know you're friends with them.
• 8:10
Speaker 4: I was, well, I know him very well. I mean
• 8:13
Speaker 4: we were we Yeah, we were friends. I'm not we're
• 8:16
Speaker 4: not enemies now, but uh, you know, I've lost contact
• 8:19
  Speaker 4: with him.
• 8:21
Speaker 1: They did business with us at the station for a while.
• 8:23
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, he and he's a very innovative guy.
• 8:28
Speaker 4: And uh, they had to change the court. One of
• 8:31
Speaker 4: my friends said to me that one All Star Weekend
• 8:34
Speaker 4: and an All Star Saturday they use it for himself.
• 8:37
  Speaker 4: I don't remember. I can't remember because I'm I really
• 8:40
Speaker 4: don't focus in on All Star Weekend anymore. I don't.
• 8:44
Speaker 4: But the tournament should be good. I'll watch it. I'm
• 8:48
Speaker 4: a little disappointed, you know, because of the NIL and
• 8:53
Speaker 4: the way they pay the players over since NIL started,
• 8:58
Speaker 4: I guess in twenty one, twenty two two, and I'm
• 9:01
  Speaker 4: and I am pro n I l they players should
• 9:04
Speaker 4: get money, but it needs to be controlled better.
• 9:08
Speaker 1: It needs to be tied up big time, because it needs.
• 9:10
Speaker 4: To be tied up big time. You're right, Alex, But
• 9:12
Speaker 4: forty of the those great up what makes the first
• 9:16
Speaker 4: weekend great? Those upsets they're gone. They're gone.
• 9:20
Speaker 1: And you know, a couple of years ago, you remember
• 9:23
Speaker 1: you were one of the first to say that that's
• 9:25
Speaker 1: not gonna happen anymore. So yeah, now.
• 9:27
Speaker 4: Say buck Nell beating buck Nell, beating.
• 9:29
Speaker 1: Kansas, how about Saint Peters.
• 9:32
Speaker 4: Yeah, Saint Peter's my alma mater, Fairley Dickinson. Yeah, UNBC
• 9:37
Speaker 4: beating beating Virginia when they were the sixteen to one.
• 9:40
Speaker 4: That's what makes that's what makes the tournament great, and
• 9:43
Speaker 4: we're getting away from that, which is disappointing.
• 9:45
Speaker 1: Well, I would love to see some lower seeds when
• 9:47
Speaker 1: you know McNee always finds a way in this tournament's well,
• 9:50
Speaker 1: they can score and they might be bandy today, I
• 9:53
Speaker 1: don't know, we'll have to see what happened.
• 9:55
Speaker 2: Well, Vandy can score too, Oh yeah, bandy. They're very
• 9:58
Speaker 2: well balanced in and over itself. And I really wanted
• 10:01
Speaker 2: to drink the McNee school lad and say, oh yeah,
• 10:03
Speaker 2: they're just gonna upset again, no problem. I mean they
• 10:06
Speaker 2: got a mere Aurican uh leading the team out out
• 10:10
Speaker 2: of the court for March madness. You know what better
• 10:13
Speaker 2: way to you know, cause chaos than just picking mcdees
• 10:17
Speaker 2: in an ever brackets. But you know, Dandy can score.
• 10:20
Speaker 2: They're a well balanced, well oiled machine and they're gonna
• 10:23
  Speaker 2: do well.
• 10:24
Speaker 1: So are you guys saying the bracket busting might be
• 10:26
Speaker 1: a little less than it has been in the years prior.
• 10:28
Speaker 4: I think so remember last year. Last year, four number
• 10:31
Speaker 4: ones got to the final four, which is very very unusual.
• 10:35
Speaker 4: I mean the years where we've had eleven seeds going
• 10:39
Speaker 4: and I was somebody was saying and I forgot who
• 10:42
Speaker 4: I was listening to. They was he thinks that there's
• 10:44
Speaker 4: a good chance they'll be chalk again to the final.
• 10:46
Speaker 1: You know, do you know Rod Strickland, You know he's
• 10:48
Speaker 1: he's coaching LU. Did you ever interact with him over
• 10:50
  Speaker 1: the years.
• 10:51
Speaker 4: Or well, I mean he played against the Nets when uh,
• 10:54
Speaker 4: when I was with the Nets, Uh, he was not.
• 10:58
Speaker 4: He was never an necessarant coach when I was there.
• 11:00
Speaker 4: But he's done a good job with LU. And I'm
• 11:02
Speaker 4: gonna be honest with you. When Rod Strickland was a player,
• 11:05
Speaker 4: and he was a great player at the Paul and
• 11:08
Speaker 4: I never figured that he would be an outstanding coach.
• 11:11
Speaker 4: He just didn't seem like coach coach type material. But
• 11:15
Speaker 4: he's done a great job for LU, as does Speedy Claxton.
• 11:20
Speaker 4: He was a great player and he was an excellent
• 11:23
Speaker 4: player in the NBA IS with Hastra. Now he was
• 11:29
Speaker 4: on I heard a little bit of an interview today.
• 11:31
Speaker 4: He's very confident about this game. Against Alabama, and I
• 11:35
Speaker 4: say Alabama's in turmoil. They're in turmoil.
• 11:39
Speaker 1: Oh yes, with all the with the arrest happening, you
• 11:41
Speaker 1: know that. But so that, I mean, you lose to
• 11:44
Speaker 1: a fifteen seed in the SEC tournament and all misses
• 11:48
Speaker 1: nothing to joke about. By the way, I actually think
• 11:50
Speaker 1: that program is good. But you're the number two seed.
• 11:52
Speaker 1: You lose to fifteen. That before even this other off
• 11:55
Speaker 1: the court stuff happens. Let me believe he hopstam might
• 11:59
Speaker 1: beat Albabata. I believe that.
• 12:00
  Speaker 5: Well.
• 12:02
Speaker 4: Ryan coach Claxton in the interview this morning was praising,
• 12:09
Speaker 4: was praising the guards, the Hofstra guards, and he's not afraid.
• 12:15
Speaker 4: He's not afraid that he's going up against an SEC school.
• 12:17
Speaker 4: So I hope that's an upset. It makes it fun,
• 12:21
Speaker 4: it really exactly. I mean, that's what March is all about.
• 12:25
Speaker 4: It all about the chaos. It's all about the upsets.
• 12:28
Speaker 4: And what better way to have March, you know, at
• 12:30
Speaker 4: least for me. And I will gladly be biased being
• 12:32
Speaker 4: that Hofstra is my alma mater.
• 12:34
Speaker 3: Yes, but I see Hofshi coming out on top of here.
• 12:37
Speaker 2: I mean, they have not had a lot of distractions
• 12:41
Speaker 2: unlike Bama in the week or so leading up to
• 12:44
Speaker 2: the game, and they have proven, especially in the CAA tournament,
• 12:47
Speaker 2: that they could show up when it matters. Preston Edmead
• 12:51
Speaker 2: freshman becoming a Hempstead hero, sending Hofter to the CAA
• 12:55
Speaker 2: Championship with that last second shot against tousand, three tenths
• 13:01
Speaker 2: of a second to go, and then showing up for
• 13:03
Speaker 2: the CIA Championship beating Monmouth and avenging the twenty twenty Demons.
• 13:11
Speaker 2: When they last time they won the CAA Championship should
• 13:14
Speaker 2: have been playing in March madness. Obviously that did not
• 13:16
Speaker 2: happen because of the real world circumstances. Yeah, yeah, good
• 13:20
Speaker 2: place now. But you know, first time in twenty five years, Yeah,
• 13:25
Speaker 2: that this program is going to be dancing in March,
• 13:28
  Speaker 2: and I don't think they'll disappoint.
• 13:29
Speaker 3: And Ryan tells you what's going on on the opposition side.
• 13:32
Speaker 1: Ryan knows my connection and how I know Rick Cole
• 13:34
Speaker 1: the DA the ad over there. So Rick Cole used
• 13:38
Speaker 1: to coach volleyball for Dallon College many years ago, and
• 13:42
Speaker 1: he almost forgot his playbook. I was announcing Queens at
• 13:44
Speaker 1: the time. I'm the guy the game of his playbook
• 13:46
Speaker 1: back after the game, like, here's here's your book, coach,
• 13:49
Speaker 1: And now all of a sudden.
• 13:50
Speaker 4: You did you hire it on him for during the game.
• 13:54
Speaker 1: All of a sudden, he's an ad And look how
• 13:56
Speaker 1: he's turned around a lot of ops and look at
• 13:57
Speaker 1: the look at the and he's got coaching. Frid you
• 14:01
Speaker 1: got Frank Catalan, Okay, coaching baseball, so right now you
• 14:04
Speaker 1: got speed Claxton. I mean, he's really turned around all
• 14:07
Speaker 1: those programs at Hobster. So I'm I'm very happy for him.
• 14:10
Speaker 1: And uh, I'm hoping a lot for success, lots of
• 14:13
  Speaker 1: guys for Hobsters.
• 14:14
Speaker 4: So yeah, guard that you were just talking about. Uh,
• 14:20
Speaker 4: he was asked Coach Claxton was asked, are you going
• 14:23
Speaker 4: to be able to keep them? And Coach Clason was
• 14:27
Speaker 4: very tomp that he would that he's going to be
• 14:28
Speaker 4: able to keep him.
• 14:30
Speaker 1: Well, I think they. I mean, look in the transfer portal,
• 14:32
  Speaker 1: you don't know anymore. That's the n i L. The
• 14:34
Speaker 1: trade reportal has changed everything. The n i L has
• 14:37
Speaker 1: changed that too, and Low and I you know, it's
• 14:40
Speaker 1: so funny. Lou and I were like, who won last year?
• 14:43
Speaker 1: Because all these things are always switching you can't. I
• 14:46
Speaker 1: used to know every title that was one down.
• 14:48
Speaker 4: You remember every team that played in the Eastern Regionals
• 14:51
Speaker 4: in the regional finals. Now you got to scratch your
• 14:54
Speaker 4: head and say, oh, that's right, Florida one last year.
• 14:56
Speaker 4: It's not it's not top of mind.
• 14:58
Speaker 1: Although Houston run was pretty special and I had someone
• 15:00
Speaker 1: from Houston on them during that final four weekend. But
• 15:05
Speaker 1: it was Florida's time, I guess. So we'll have to
• 15:08
  Speaker 1: see what happens.
• 15:08
Speaker 4: And they're going to be right up there again. There's
• 15:11
Speaker 4: a chance that they could go back to back.
• 15:13
  Speaker 1: You know.
• 15:14
Speaker 4: Again, I hate to keep pounding uh uh and praising
• 15:18
Speaker 4: the coaches, but he Todd Golden is an excellent basketball coach,
• 15:23
Speaker 4: you know. So, so it's it should it should be.
• 15:26
Speaker 4: It should be a good well, especially these first two days.
• 15:29
Speaker 4: We just watch you watching, you know, just.
• 15:31
Speaker 1: These lower these lower I mean, look, if you're in Kansas,
• 15:34
Speaker 1: if you're so and so, you want to advance. But
• 15:38
Speaker 1: losing is not going to like hurt your chances of
• 15:40
Speaker 1: getting the recruit because oh my god, the name brand.
• 15:43
Speaker 1: But for those other schools that's you know, oh my god,
• 15:45
Speaker 1: they have an upset. I want to join that team.
• 15:47
Speaker 1: Do you find that happened sometimes, like you see the
• 15:49
Speaker 1: team get upset, I want to be on that team
• 15:51
Speaker 1: next year. Does that ever happen?
• 15:53
Speaker 4: Well, it happens. But what what really what really helps
• 15:57
Speaker 4: them is student admission for non athletes. There were a missions.
• 16:02
Speaker 4: The missions go up, people wanting to attend to attend
• 16:07
  Speaker 4: that school, and.
• 16:07
Speaker 1: That's I remember Miami Hio only had one loss, and
• 16:12
Speaker 1: that was in the tournament last week. But you see
• 16:14
Speaker 1: in the area, I mean the bars were jumping, they
• 16:16
Speaker 1: were like your kids watched there too.
• 16:21
Speaker 2: I mean you even see the scenes with Jack Hughes
• 16:24
Speaker 2: and the Golden Gold. I mean they were holding watch
• 16:26
Speaker 2: parties over the Miami of Oisle College bars and it
• 16:31
Speaker 2: was the same stuff then too. I mean, people just
• 16:34
Speaker 2: throwing their drinks and all that. Just a chaotic but
• 16:39
Speaker 2: fun celebration all around.
• 16:41
Speaker 3: But by the way.
• 16:42
Speaker 2: Don't get this bias against Miami of Oile though. I mean,
• 16:47
Speaker 2: well they were last night, as you were saying, Alex,
• 16:52
Speaker 2: just last week and they were only a first four team.
• 16:56
Speaker 3: They're only an eleventh seeds.
• 16:57
Speaker 1: Which I kind of called. I was at the I
• 16:59
Speaker 1: was at a restaurant. The other days. They're gonna be
• 17:01
Speaker 1: a first four because of the way they're talking about them, right,
• 17:03
Speaker 1: But like, I don't understand they go undefead the whole
• 17:06
Speaker 1: season and one loss effects at all. I don't. I
• 17:08
Speaker 1: don't because they're not a name brand. Is that what
• 17:10
  Speaker 1: it is?
• 17:11
  Speaker 4: That's what I mean.
• 17:11
Speaker 2: You have Bruce Pearl too being one of the main
• 17:14
Speaker 2: ones banging the table against Miami of Ohio too. I mean,
• 17:17
Speaker 2: going on the CBS Sports set setslow, just completely discredit
• 17:21
  Speaker 2: Bruce defeated season.
• 17:23
Speaker 1: We all know how eccentric Bruce Pearl was a coach,
• 17:26
Speaker 1: but as an analyst, I never knew I'd scored that
• 17:28
Speaker 1: gig because he was so off you know, he was
• 17:31
Speaker 1: so off the wall even interviews. As a coach, I'm like,
• 17:34
Speaker 1: no way he could become an analyst. But here he
• 17:36
  Speaker 1: is so.
• 17:36
Speaker 4: Well And again getting back to what Ryan was saying
• 17:39
Speaker 4: about him bashing like Miami of like Miami of Ohio
• 17:44
Speaker 4: and Auburn which was which is now coached by his son,
• 17:49
Speaker 4: was one of the first allegedly one of the first
• 17:52
Speaker 4: four out and he and he said even after that,
• 17:55
Speaker 4: he he said, I thought that, you know, Alburn should
• 17:58
  Speaker 4: have gotten in.
• 17:59
Speaker 3: And so again you gotta love a Nepo baby.
• 18:01
Speaker 4: What ca Yeah, yeah, no, And again you're not gonna
• 18:05
Speaker 4: go against your kid.
• 18:06
Speaker 1: I understand, well you're with Patinos in the press conference
• 18:08
Speaker 1: after they won. He's because I think someone said, do
• 18:10
Speaker 1: you wish the better Big East would be better or
• 18:12
Speaker 1: something like that, like that's happened, Evan and my kids
• 18:15
Speaker 1: got to recruit better, greater, greater basketball players. I'm like,
• 18:18
  Speaker 1: that's such a dig.
• 18:19
Speaker 3: But I you know, that is such a Rick Patino
• 18:22
  Speaker 3: thing to say.
• 18:23
Speaker 4: Absolutely, he was saying that tug and cheek too, just
• 18:25
Speaker 4: giving his son a little jazz.
• 18:27
Speaker 1: And you know, by the way, all those games they won,
• 18:31
Speaker 1: those are the two toughest games. I mean, maybe it's
• 18:33
Speaker 1: because of sun verse verse father, but Xavier held them
• 18:37
  Speaker 1: down pretty well.
• 18:38
Speaker 4: They they had a chance to win both of those
• 18:39
Speaker 4: games in the regular season. They did and.
• 18:42
Speaker 1: Uh, of course he won nine hundred against his son,
• 18:44
Speaker 1: which was very interesting to watch also, but so we'll
• 18:47
Speaker 1: see now watching Clark Kellogg at the halftime show. Of course,
• 18:50
Speaker 1: I pulled him on the radio with us back at
• 18:52
Speaker 1: nine seventy with Ted Serranus over.
• 18:54
Speaker 4: I remember I actually was in the hospital, uh, visiting
• 18:58
Speaker 4: my my my late mom, and I was listening and
• 19:01
Speaker 4: I said, wow, cluck between between halves, very impressive.
• 19:06
Speaker 1: And then well I also have Vin Paresy on to
• 19:09
Speaker 1: break the Mullen news during that one of those years.
• 19:11
Speaker 1: So that was really quite a time.
• 19:14
  Speaker 4: I remember that.
• 19:14
Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot of mark. We had a lot of
• 19:16
Speaker 1: March Madness around here too. We did most certainly, we
• 19:19
Speaker 1: definitely did. I played Ryan the call of a popkin
• 19:23
Speaker 1: of a Gary Cohen with the Gibbs against in the
• 19:27
Speaker 1: biggest tournament. I mean that call. I'll never forget.
• 19:29
Speaker 3: We are from a room over two times.
• 19:32
Speaker 4: That was our first year.
• 19:34
Speaker 1: Yeah, so we've had a lot of moments, hopefully going
• 19:38
Speaker 1: to back on radio. Who knows one day, right.
• 19:40
Speaker 4: Louis absolutely never never say never. That's not gonna happen again.
• 19:43
Speaker 1: Keep all right, Terminos, take always a pleasure having you
• 19:46
Speaker 1: on the air with us.
• 19:47
Speaker 4: I love being out with you guys.
• 19:49
Speaker 1: Well, like a Alex Media PAGs perspective, you can listen
• 19:52
Speaker 1: to Ryan's bracket breakdown, right, you posted that earlier today.
• 19:55
Speaker 2: So yeah, just went up right before the first game
• 19:59
Speaker 2: of March Manness between TCU and Ohio.
• 20:01
Speaker 1: Had to be had to get.
• 20:02
Speaker 3: Those bracket predictions out there.
• 20:03
  Speaker 1: One way or.
• 20:04
Speaker 2: Another and just manifesting a hostra sweet sixteen run bookt
• 20:09
  Speaker 2: I I hope, Ryan, I hope.
• 20:12
Speaker 1: So all right, I'm Ryan Padana. Alex Garett one like
• 20:16
Speaker 1: a Ballex Media, thanks for joining us today here at
• 20:18
Speaker 1: Terminalo's take. All right, Well, I've got a very good
• 20:22
Speaker 1: friend on the line, a very big support of one
• 20:24
Speaker 1: leg a Balx Media and our media n then welcome back.
• 20:27
Speaker 5: Hey, thank you for having me on the show again.
• 20:30
Speaker 5: First of all, Alex, you do a great job with
• 20:32
Speaker 5: your stuff, and uh you're you do. You have amazing
• 20:36
Speaker 5: content and obviously working with in the studio, you guys
• 20:39
Speaker 5: do a great job over there. The kudos to you guys.
• 20:42
  Speaker 5: And yeah, so.
• 20:45
Speaker 1: Yeah, everyd Why I have you on today because we're
• 20:48
Speaker 1: obviously watching the March madness it's the first sixty four
• 20:51
Speaker 1: And what's a big, overlaying, over arching part of all
• 20:54
Speaker 1: this is the NIL topic and you and I didn't
• 20:58
Speaker 1: know you were in that field, ill, I thought you
• 21:00
Speaker 1: were on the media side, but you are an expert
• 21:02
Speaker 1: at the NIL world. So tell us about what you're
• 21:04
Speaker 1: doing in addition to producing for your own stuff and
• 21:07
Speaker 1: then for Java, you know, and and that whole show
• 21:11
Speaker 1: and then you got the NIL work, So tell us
• 21:14
Speaker 1: about the NIL side of your career.
• 21:16
Speaker 5: Yeah. Also not only NIL, I'm an agent too now too.
• 21:19
Speaker 5: Also I'm an agent now too. So yeah, So for
• 21:23
Speaker 5: the NIL, I'm a vice president partner for this company
• 21:26
Speaker 5: called Nation's Best and we do a lot of excuse me,
• 21:31
Speaker 5: NIL brand deals for young athletes high school, college and
• 21:35
Speaker 5: then the youth, the younger kids like six sixth graders,
• 21:38
Speaker 5: eighth grade, seven to eighth the you name it. So
• 21:41
Speaker 5: so NIL is all about naming, image, liking, and then
• 21:44
Speaker 5: protecting their brand. And obviously NIL deals are huge now
• 21:48
Speaker 5: as popular as popping and all these athletes are. It
• 21:51
Speaker 5: helps them with their money situations, financially their family and
• 21:55
Speaker 5: also protecting their brand. So some of these athletes have
• 21:58
Speaker 5: their own brand, but they don't have their brand. We're
• 22:01
Speaker 5: our Nation's Best companies able to come up with the
• 22:04
Speaker 5: brand for them. So also so they can have a
• 22:07
Speaker 5: brand while they're playing and our c.
• 22:11
Speaker 1: I know you you You normally cover high school sports
• 22:14
Speaker 1: for the media, so the agent world has to be
• 22:17
Speaker 1: sort of an easier transition because hey, you might be
• 22:20
Speaker 1: covering them one day and then how do you not
• 22:23
Speaker 1: mix the two where you're covering one day and them
• 22:24
Speaker 1: signing them to a team the next day. Is there
• 22:26
Speaker 1: like a conflict of interest there?
• 22:29
Speaker 5: I mean sometimes there is, but but like as you know, Alex,
• 22:34
Speaker 5: you you've been to some of these events too as
• 22:36
Speaker 5: a as a media guy, and like for like for us, uh,
• 22:41
Speaker 5: it we just have to work around the schedule. Obviously
• 22:44
Speaker 5: you work around the uh the conflict is thing. So yeah,
• 22:49
Speaker 5: it does have conflict, but at the end of the day,
• 22:52
  Speaker 5: it's it doesn't it doesn't really matter. It's just a
• 22:55
Speaker 5: you're still working with that and obviously looking them for
• 23:00
Speaker 5: I won't affect uh the other things. So yeah, so
• 23:03
Speaker 5: the aging world is uh, it's been a good experience
• 23:06
Speaker 5: for me so far, and I'm learning by the by
• 23:08
Speaker 5: the day. One of my mentors is Lee Steinberg, so
• 23:11
Speaker 5: I'm learning from him. So yeah, So the Asian world
• 23:14
Speaker 5: has been great. And obviously with the NIL self and
• 23:17
Speaker 5: shout I want to shout out to our CEO, Bob
• 23:19
Speaker 5: Smith from a Nation's Best and he does a great
• 23:21
Speaker 5: job and he is the one who brought me on
• 23:23
Speaker 5: as a vice president partner. And Alex, we would love
• 23:27
Speaker 5: to have you do some stuff for that too. If
• 23:29
Speaker 5: you're interested for NIL. So let me know.
• 23:32
Speaker 1: Now, one thing I brought you on was you posted
• 23:34
Speaker 1: a graphic a couple of days ago about different ways
• 23:37
Speaker 1: the n I L can support the student athlete. Can
• 23:41
Speaker 1: you break down that graphic with us, because I want
• 23:43
Speaker 1: I want people to know thinking here and how best
• 23:46
Speaker 1: ways to really I guess capitalize on the n I L.
• 23:49
Speaker 5: Right, yeah, so that map then excuse me, the you
• 23:55
Speaker 5: guys called the ecosystem map the nation's best n I
• 23:58
Speaker 5: L ecosystem map. So that breakdown will give you, by
• 24:02
Speaker 5: the way, that's that's something unique about our company is uh,
• 24:05
Speaker 5: we're coming up there. We're coming up with something new
• 24:07
Speaker 5: every single day, and most are this we have we
• 24:12
Speaker 5: have so we have different websites for h like parents
• 24:15
Speaker 5: for the parents, for the brand, for the players, for
• 24:18
Speaker 5: anybody to learn more about the n I L. Uh.
• 24:21
Speaker 5: That's why we're unique because that map will that break
• 24:25
Speaker 5: that map breaks out pretty much everything that we do
• 24:27
Speaker 5: pretty much, and it gives a broader scale for people
• 24:30
Speaker 5: to learn uh even more, and and and and that
• 24:33
Speaker 5: breakdown it's like a that that that map is like
• 24:35
Speaker 5: a march managed bracket that it gives it it's in
• 24:39
Speaker 5: order and also it tells you specifically what we do there.
• 24:42
Speaker 5: So that that that ecosystem map we just launched recently,
• 24:47
Speaker 5: so anybody who wants to learn that they can use
• 24:50
Speaker 5: that also or go to a website like n I
• 24:52
Speaker 5: L Dream Team and IL Parent Parent Registry and IL
• 24:56
Speaker 5: brand Registry. We have a whole bunch of things. So
• 24:59
Speaker 5: that's what's unique about our nation NIL company out of
• 25:02
Speaker 5: all the other NIL companies, and soup Dog is a
• 25:06
Speaker 5: big support of their support of our company. So we're
• 25:08
Speaker 5: trying to work with this athletes.
• 25:10
Speaker 1: Also that he coaches, well, he had such a great
• 25:14
Speaker 1: time at Team USA for both the Olympics and the Olympics. Now,
• 25:18
Speaker 1: let me let me ask you this because obviously you've
• 25:21
Speaker 1: been around the high school world and for a long time.
• 25:24
Speaker 1: We can all agree NJA was making a lot of
• 25:26
Speaker 1: money off these kids backs, right, So they're profiting off tournaments,
• 25:31
Speaker 1: they're profiting off jerseys and where was the kids fair?
• 25:33
Speaker 1: Sure a meal ticket doesn't really a meal, you know,
• 25:37
Speaker 1: meal plans only cut how much the NJA was making. So,
• 25:41
Speaker 1: as you were watching this from a media perspective, were
• 25:44
Speaker 1: you happy with the NIL when it first started? And
• 25:47
Speaker 1: what can be changed? What can be amended so it
• 25:48
Speaker 1: doesn't go out of control either.
• 25:51
Speaker 5: Wellah, the first time I started it was kind of
• 25:53
Speaker 5: quck in question about it because I didn't really know
• 25:56
Speaker 5: about too much. But when I started started reading it,
• 25:59
Speaker 5: and then I got more in depth with it too,
• 26:02
Speaker 5: and I started to realize that this brand, these deals,
• 26:07
Speaker 5: any idea that's kept popping up, and it's starting to
• 26:10
Speaker 5: help athletes and also these young and the family stew
• 26:13
Speaker 5: it does help out with the family, but mainly the athletes.
• 26:16
Speaker 5: And once and then when Bob Smith got me on
• 26:19
Speaker 5: board as a vice president partner for his company, I
• 26:22
Speaker 5: started learning more about it too. And there is ways
• 26:26
Speaker 5: we can approve it too. There's always ways and you
• 26:29
Speaker 5: can prove things, and that's what we're in the process
• 26:31
Speaker 5: of keeping to keeping finding new ways to improve it.
• 26:34
Speaker 5: But as of now, I mean ever since I joined
• 26:37
Speaker 5: this company, and also the growth, it's unbelievable how these
• 26:42
Speaker 5: athletes can get the resources. Now. Imagine if they had
• 26:47
Speaker 5: Nils when when when Tom Brady or when Joe Smith
• 26:50
Speaker 5: Joe Namath was playing, or something like from the past
• 26:53
Speaker 5: like blast, Like if you had that from the past
• 26:56
Speaker 5: and it would have been that it would have been
• 26:58
Speaker 5: still it would have been crazy. But but now we
• 27:00
Speaker 5: have this now with all the technology and all the
• 27:04
Speaker 5: resources that these young athletes have now, it's amazing, remarkable,
• 27:07
Speaker 5: And like I said, there's always room to grow it.
• 27:10
Speaker 5: That's why we come up with new things every day.
• 27:12
Speaker 5: And you see the map now, the different websites that
• 27:15
Speaker 5: we have, and and it's it's always room to grow.
• 27:17
Speaker 5: But right now it's like, is popular, how do we.
• 27:24
Speaker 1: How do we let me see? How do we though
• 27:27
Speaker 1: control the transport portal? I feel like that gets so abused.
• 27:32
Speaker 1: I mean, is it is that going to be a
• 27:34
Speaker 1: bad part of all of this?
• 27:36
Speaker 5: Well, there's nothing I mean for the transfer portal. I
• 27:40
Speaker 5: mean you can't. I mean you cannot. I mean the
• 27:42
Speaker 5: players have to say in those type of things, So
• 27:45
Speaker 5: I don't think you can really change it. But and
• 27:47
Speaker 5: you can't prevent them from going places. And obviously it's
• 27:51
Speaker 5: up to there. It's it's just up it's up to
• 27:53
Speaker 5: them and their families what they want to do. But
• 27:56
Speaker 5: I agree with you, Alex, I think the transfer porter
• 27:59
Speaker 5: is getting answer portal is getting used a lot now
• 28:03
Speaker 5: these days, and you see players come and go, leaving
• 28:06
Speaker 5: from top Division three schools to go to Division two
• 28:09
Speaker 5: or Division one, uh, to get more playing or actually
• 28:13
Speaker 5: you see players from Division one player teams that are
• 28:18
Speaker 5: not getting playing time to go to Division two to
• 28:20
  Speaker 5: get more playing time. So it's a it's a it's
• 28:23
Speaker 5: a this pros to it and this consuit. But I
• 28:26
Speaker 5: do agree with you. I think it's getting a lot
• 28:28
Speaker 5: used now. But I don't think we can There's not
• 28:30
Speaker 5: there's no I don't think we can change it because
• 28:32
Speaker 5: it's up. It's ultimately, at the end of the days,
• 28:34
Speaker 5: up to the players in my opinion.
• 28:37
Speaker 1: Now, because as I say, you know, the call the
• 28:40
Speaker 1: high school scene a little more. Are you noticing kids
• 28:42
Speaker 1: being recruited a little younger now? Just you know, it's
• 28:45
Speaker 1: sort of like all right, well this kid. Yeah, as
• 28:48
Speaker 1: an agent, I mean, are you able what's the limit?
• 28:51
Speaker 1: Can you can you get them out of high school?
• 28:54
Speaker 1: Or while they're in high school? Like, what's the limit
• 28:55
  Speaker 1: on that?
• 28:56
Speaker 5: Oh? Yeah? So for the younger athletes, we have like
• 28:58
Speaker 5: six seven year old kids part of the company, so
• 29:01
Speaker 5: you can, uh, you can give them deals now with
• 29:04
Speaker 5: the six year old or sixth graders and of the
• 29:06
Speaker 5: greers of young kids, so we have a couple of
• 29:08
Speaker 5: them on the database of the nation's best company and
• 29:12
Speaker 5: obviously we we so we send us all this up
• 29:16
Speaker 5: to the parents to make sure that they're on board
• 29:18
Speaker 5: first and then if they're interested, then we just we
• 29:21
Speaker 5: talk and then uh, obviously Bob does the meeting CEO
• 29:25
Speaker 5: or CEO and then uh, if they're interested to get
• 29:28
Speaker 5: them on board signed to the deal you at a
• 29:30
Speaker 5: young age, then we do that and we have it.
• 29:32
Speaker 5: We do have a couple of players that are young
• 29:35
Speaker 5: still its eight eight nine year old kids. So they're
• 29:38
Speaker 5: talented some of them. One of them, a couple of
• 29:41
Speaker 5: them plays five football and obviously, uh, the rest plays
• 29:45
Speaker 5: regular football and different sports.
• 29:46
Speaker 1: Also talk about you know, as they get older and
• 29:54
Speaker 1: they progress, talk about watching that progression and you know,
• 29:57
Speaker 1: seeing them in the college world. I mean, we always
• 30:00
Speaker 1: have about the college to to prose adjustment. Right, it's
• 30:05
Speaker 1: gotta be a high school or a college adjustment that
• 30:06
Speaker 1: maybe these agents can help them, you know, you're your
• 30:09
Speaker 1: comany can help them through.
• 30:12
Speaker 5: Yeah, So it's always great to see the growth, uh
• 30:15
Speaker 5: when they're young, and obviously now when they grow up
• 30:17
Speaker 5: grow up to become star players and and uh and
• 30:20
Speaker 5: once you see them go to college and from from
• 30:23
Speaker 5: high school and and obviously the previous grades. It's mean.
• 30:28
Speaker 5: And also you feel like you're part of the story
• 30:30
Speaker 5: because you're helping them out throughout their journey and and
• 30:33
Speaker 5: it's always great to see them succeed. And once you
• 30:35
Speaker 5: see them in college and go to the pros holsto,
• 30:37
Speaker 5: and that means you did your job because you helped
• 30:39
Speaker 5: them out and along the way with their parents, with
• 30:41
Speaker 5: their families, and they got to their goal. And and
• 30:44
Speaker 5: that's always a dream for them and our thing. So
• 30:47
Speaker 5: whenever we see that, then it's, uh, it gives us,
• 30:50
Speaker 5: it makes us a better Our day gets better when
• 30:53
Speaker 5: you when we see players get see them get opportunities, naything.
• 30:57
Speaker 1: We see you posts a lot about different things. How
• 30:59
Speaker 1: do you balance your time? I mean, you're producing one
• 31:01
Speaker 1: thing and then and how about that show producing with
• 31:03
Speaker 1: Joba Chamberlain, and then you're doing your own thing. But
• 31:06
Speaker 1: I haven't seen too many of the interviews of late
• 31:08
Speaker 1: are you. Are you focusing more on the agent side
• 31:11
Speaker 1: of your your career or what?
• 31:13
  Speaker 5: Yeah, that's a great question. Yeah, I mean, uh, I'm
• 31:15
Speaker 5: still willing. I'm still want to do interviews. It's just
• 31:17
Speaker 5: a matter. But because my schedule I don't really have
• 31:20
Speaker 5: time to do interviews right now. But right now we're
• 31:22
Speaker 5: focused on on the nil stuff and obviously the agent
• 31:25
Speaker 5: side of it, booking stuff for people.
• 31:28
Speaker 1: You guys, I find so cool you've been making some
• 31:30
Speaker 1: merch of all this stuff.
• 31:32
Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, and uh and and also yeah, so I
• 31:36
Speaker 5: would love to get back to the interviews at some point,
• 31:38
Speaker 5: which obviously I'm my own show that I do, and
• 31:41
Speaker 5: I obviously I produced other shows and and and help
• 31:44
Speaker 5: out and then we've been helping you out to it. Uh.
• 31:46
Speaker 5: It's it's just great. It's just amazing how how how
• 31:51
Speaker 5: the growth has happening here. But yeah, I would love
• 31:53
Speaker 5: to get back into the interviews soon. But right now
• 31:55
Speaker 5: we're just focused on the other side of the business.
• 31:58
Speaker 5: And uh yeah, so that's how I try to balance
• 32:01
Speaker 5: it and and it's working. So also you got to
• 32:06
Speaker 5: find time to make it for yourself. All so that's
• 32:08
Speaker 5: the key, especially in this business. And I and you
• 32:11
Speaker 5: and you know that too. And then I don't know
• 32:14
Speaker 5: how you do it though you you're over you're all
• 32:16
  Speaker 5: over the place.
• 32:17
Speaker 1: Well, I take all the time during the day and
• 32:18
Speaker 1: do my own pod and then I know I've hit
• 32:20
Speaker 1: that the other day. I'm also keeping an eye on
• 32:22
Speaker 1: this last few seconds here.
• 32:24
Speaker 5: Of TCU when they that this is a great game.
• 32:28
Speaker 1: Five seconds to go for two. It's god, it looks
• 32:32
Speaker 1: like TCU might pull this off. We'll have to see
• 32:34
Speaker 1: what happens with four seconds left, sixty six sixty four.
• 32:39
Speaker 1: But you play by play as we go along here, did.
• 32:43
Speaker 5: You pick up? Did you pick them in your bracket?
• 32:45
Speaker 1: I picked Ohio State? But you know what, I'm all
• 32:47
Speaker 1: for upsets. I love this time of year with the upsets.
• 32:49
Speaker 1: So yeah, we'll have to see. But go back then
• 32:54
  Speaker 1: A L. The n I L Collective is interesting to
• 32:56
Speaker 1: me because are you talking about you know, like these
• 32:59
Speaker 1: these ards what do they call them, like the collectives?
• 33:02
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, you talk about the the you mean the
• 33:09
  Speaker 5: car collecting?
• 33:10
Speaker 1: Yeah, like is that what that means? Or what what
• 33:12
Speaker 1: does nil collective mean?
• 33:14
Speaker 5: Oh? And I so so yeah, we do have so
• 33:18
Speaker 5: actually let me tell you this. So we have this
• 33:20
Speaker 5: new company called the fat Heads, the n I L
• 33:23
Speaker 5: fat Head thing. So so now they make they're making
• 33:27
Speaker 5: uh for this is for the athletes. So they're making
• 33:30
Speaker 5: uh like fat heads for the athletes in the n
• 33:33
  Speaker 5: I L space. So it's called n I l fat
• 33:36
Speaker 5: heads and they few. They made a few already for
• 33:39
Speaker 5: some athletes that we have and they want. They made
• 33:41
Speaker 5: one for our CEO, and then they made one for
• 33:45
Speaker 5: a couple of things art rap artists already. So it's
• 33:48
Speaker 5: kind of cool these fat head things. And U are
• 33:52
Speaker 5: not sorry, not fat big head. It's called big head. Uh,
• 33:55
Speaker 5: it's called big head. There's a fat head out there ready,
• 33:57
Speaker 5: but this new one is called big heads. So it's
• 34:00
Speaker 5: kind of cool what they were doing just to create
• 34:03
Speaker 5: some stuff. Create some creator have some creative things in
• 34:06
Speaker 5: their minds when they do with it.
• 34:09
  Speaker 1: And thinking that there's like a three D card, I'm
• 34:11
Speaker 1: trying to think of what they called n FT.
• 34:13
Speaker 5: Is that including that's something different? I think that's different.
• 34:19
Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, we had grown up and watched the
• 34:21
Speaker 1: Reggie Bushes of the world have their titles stripped because
• 34:24
Speaker 1: four point three seconds left Ohio State as the basketball
• 34:27
Speaker 1: uh in the second half down by two. Uh you
• 34:32
Speaker 1: pass the man court line to second no good and TCU.
• 34:39
Speaker 1: That's upset Ohio State. There's our first upset of the bracket.
• 34:44
  Speaker 5: Wow.
• 34:45
Speaker 1: And you heard here one leg A Alex and Nithan
• 34:48
Speaker 1: sixty six to sixty four. TCU downing number eight Ohio State.
• 34:52
Speaker 1: But I was gonna I was gonna say, we grew
• 34:56
Speaker 1: up watching Reggie Bush and we watched that while saga happen,
• 35:01
Speaker 1: And here's the thing to me, these kids should have
• 35:07
Speaker 1: been able to do their deals or whatever like that.
• 35:09
Speaker 1: I mean, did you feel like that growing up too?
• 35:11
Speaker 1: Like why are these kids able to do their deals? Yeah?
• 35:14
Speaker 5: And like from that time, well, they didn't really have
• 35:18
Speaker 5: the resources to to to their own things. But thinking back,
• 35:23
Speaker 5: I did, I do think that they should have. I mean,
• 35:25
Speaker 5: I imagine they did their own deals back in the day,
• 35:27
Speaker 5: it would have been a different story. So I I
• 35:30
Speaker 5: do question it, like question myself what if they had
• 35:34
Speaker 5: the opportunity to do their own things? And but now
• 35:37
Speaker 5: they but they didn't have the resource, But now they
• 35:39
Speaker 5: have the resources where the players can do their own
• 35:41
  Speaker 5: things too.
• 35:46
Speaker 1: And uh, and that's so important. And you're you're there
• 35:49
Speaker 1: being the resource since story Elation's best and it and
• 35:52
Speaker 1: have you learned a lot more about the business than
• 35:54
  Speaker 1: you realized?
• 35:56
Speaker 5: Yes, I have since been I've been in with this company,
• 35:59
Speaker 5: I've learned a lot. And like I said, shout out
• 36:02
Speaker 5: to our CEO, Bob Smith, he does a great job.
• 36:04
Speaker 5: Maybe we have a great staff on the board and
• 36:08
Speaker 5: obviously great athletes that we work with and the that database,
• 36:10
Speaker 5: and we're looking to more add more players on people
• 36:14
Speaker 5: on the board like Jordan Poyer, he's interested in joining
• 36:19
Speaker 5: on the staff doing some mental health stuff on this
• 36:22
Speaker 5: uh for the players. So yeah, I've been learning a
• 36:26
Speaker 5: lot be and since being the vice president vice president
• 36:30
  Speaker 5: for the company.
• 36:31
Speaker 1: All right, nothing, you were down at the super Bowl meding,
• 36:33
Speaker 1: we get a chance to talk, then, what's that like?
• 36:36
Speaker 1: It's almost like a tradition for you to go down
• 36:38
  Speaker 1: there at that.
• 36:38
Speaker 5: Point, right, Yes, this year super Bowl in San Francisco
• 36:42
Speaker 5: was amazing and obviously we got to reconnect with the
• 36:45
Speaker 5: players that being already and obviously make new connections and
• 36:50
Speaker 5: radio was great we got and also the we got
• 36:53
Speaker 5: invited to a lot of outside events, so that's been great.
• 36:56
Speaker 5: So yeah, so it's been that true district is amazing
• 37:01
Speaker 5: and obviously going to the Super Bowl parties and Lee
• 37:04
Speaker 5: Steinberg super Bowl party.
• 37:06
Speaker 1: But you never get to the game, right you're not
• 37:07
Speaker 1: able to go to the game or we didn't.
• 37:10
Speaker 5: We didn't. I decided not to go to the game
• 37:12
Speaker 5: this year. I just I watched the game at my
• 37:14
Speaker 5: am uncle's house there. You know, I think next year,
• 37:19
Speaker 5: next year, we'll be at the game. Next year.
• 37:21
Speaker 1: Oh, that would be awesome. All right. We watched these
• 37:23
Speaker 1: tournaments right in March madness, even the championships and these
• 37:28
Speaker 1: lower schools, and maybe from an athlete perspective too, it
• 37:32
Speaker 1: is a good way to showcase these athletes that maybe
• 37:34
Speaker 1: not yet their their flowers. Right. So when you see
• 37:40
Speaker 1: these schools that maybe not are expected to win, win,
• 37:43
Speaker 1: do your guys go like, all right, I want to
• 37:45
Speaker 1: go here? Or do Are they very directed and their
• 37:48
Speaker 1: minds are very focused on where they want to go?
• 37:52
Speaker 5: Yeah? So some players they some some some players do
• 37:57
Speaker 5: you have one specific team or one Pacific school they
• 38:01
Speaker 5: want to go to? But and and others they don't
• 38:03
Speaker 5: mind where to go a lot as long as they
• 38:05
Speaker 5: showcase their talent and they get the playing time and
• 38:09
Speaker 5: work hard. So no matter, no matter where they want,
• 38:12
Speaker 5: no matter where they go, it's just a matter of
• 38:14
Speaker 5: uh getting their showing their showcasing their talent and getting
• 38:17
Speaker 5: to the next level.
• 38:18
Speaker 1: All right, let me ask you a different way then,
• 38:20
Speaker 1: because I think I'm trying to say do you think
• 38:24
Speaker 1: that or do you have athletes that you work with, right, Yeah,
• 38:27
Speaker 1: get highlighted because of this tournament, right, like all of
• 38:30
Speaker 1: a sudden, your athletes blown up because oh my god,
• 38:32
Speaker 1: look at the game he had in March bad.
• 38:33
Speaker 5: Does that happen to Yeah, yep, Yeah, we do have
• 38:36
Speaker 5: athletes that we work with that that gets highlighted like
• 38:39
Speaker 5: that when when they play in a big tournament like
• 38:41
Speaker 5: March Madness or any other tournaments. Yep, they do get highlighted.
• 38:45
Speaker 5: And also they get more recognition too.
• 38:47
Speaker 1: We just had the Combine. Anybody from your your nation's
• 38:50
Speaker 1: best at the Combine and and any good workouts there
• 38:54
Speaker 1: and any any prospects.
• 38:56
Speaker 5: Uh, we have no, not really format Nation is the
• 39:00
Speaker 5: best company, but we do. We do something. We connected
• 39:05
Speaker 5: with the players, some of the players that we're at
• 39:07
Speaker 5: the Combine. And yeah, so a lot of great talent.
• 39:10
Speaker 5: Like I said, this draft has a lot of great
• 39:13
Speaker 5: talent this year. So whoever, no matter what I think,
• 39:18
Speaker 5: especially on the defensive side, there's a lot of great
• 39:20
Speaker 5: talent the defensive side this year in the draft. You know,
• 39:23
  Speaker 5: it's also.
• 39:23
Speaker 1: Becoming popular a little more. Maybe the schemes of the
• 39:25
Speaker 1: world has helped along. College baseball is also becoming more
• 39:29
Speaker 1: popular and the fact that people love these games, right,
• 39:33
Speaker 1: I mean I see highlights even in February, and I'm like, boy,
• 39:35
Speaker 1: college baseball, there's something there. Growing have a lot of
• 39:39
Speaker 1: baseball athletes that you help out.
• 39:41
Speaker 5: Yeah, we do help out with a lot of baseball aletes.
• 39:43
Speaker 5: And actually I got three from the MLB Draft League
• 39:48
Speaker 5: currently in our agency and that we're adding. We're looking
• 39:51
Speaker 5: to add more baso players too.
• 39:54
Speaker 1: As an agent, what's the easiest sport to scout or
• 39:58
Speaker 1: to sign up and to really evaluate talent and and
• 40:01
Speaker 1: what's the hardest for me? I feel like I watch
• 40:04
Speaker 1: baseball camps like I've been around justin un baseball and
• 40:06
Speaker 1: a couple of other things, the Platio's camp, and you
• 40:09
Speaker 1: kind of can see the talent from very early on
• 40:12
Speaker 1: and to drive some of these kids have. But what's
• 40:15
Speaker 1: from your perspective, the best sport to try and pick
• 40:18
Speaker 1: that right diamond in the rough, you know, versus the
• 40:23
  Speaker 1: toughest sport.
• 40:25
Speaker 5: I think football has been the easiest. Well for me,
• 40:29
Speaker 5: I can there's a lot of talents of football players,
• 40:32
Speaker 5: plus it's easy for me. I think it's easier to
• 40:35
Speaker 5: scout football players, and I think the hardest for me
• 40:38
Speaker 5: has been I think hockey me a little bit.
• 40:43
Speaker 1: Uh And that's a demographic thing because or geographic because
• 40:47
Speaker 1: geographically we're not really a hockey college.
• 40:49
Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, yeah, plus hockey you have to go
• 40:52
Speaker 5: outside of the border too, like Canada and all. But yeah,
• 40:57
Speaker 5: I would say football easiest, Baseball second basketball for me,
• 41:01
Speaker 5: second baseball third, and then hockey and the rest.
• 41:09
Speaker 1: Yeah, hockey is you know, that has a rise here
• 41:11
Speaker 1: and in popularity. And you know, the Northeast is very
• 41:14
Speaker 1: interesting because up in the Boston area and the QUINNIPIAX
• 41:18
Speaker 1: those are the teams that really are available. But on
• 41:22
Speaker 1: that it seems like the Michigan's and the Notre Dames
• 41:26
Speaker 1: and all those teams are really what kids are going
• 41:28
  Speaker 1: to nowadays.
• 41:29
Speaker 5: So yep, and but go go ahead, so sorry yeah,
• 41:34
Speaker 5: also yeah, Michigan, Yeah, you're I agree with the like Michigan,
• 41:37
Speaker 5: Notre Dame, and also Alabama you see Ohio State, but
• 41:42
Speaker 5: also North Carolina now and then some of these other
• 41:45
  Speaker 5: schools too.
• 41:47
Speaker 1: By the way, Duke in Sienna, I don't expect a
• 41:49
Speaker 1: big upset there, although you never know. If basketball is funny,
• 41:52
  Speaker 1: you will have.
• 41:52
Speaker 5: To that's crazy, like that's why I love like it,
• 41:55
Speaker 5: I guessid. I love March Madden. I got Arizona winning
• 41:58
Speaker 5: it all this year, so that's I have.
• 42:00
Speaker 1: Duke will have to see if that gets busted on
• 42:02
Speaker 1: the day one, but it'll be fun. Any success stories,
• 42:06
Speaker 1: I mean we can plug nations vessels, but any success
• 42:08
Speaker 1: stories before we go into Java the talk show a
• 42:12
  Speaker 1: Joba Chamberlain, I.
• 42:15
Speaker 5: Think the success story was for me you're talking about
• 42:19
Speaker 5: myself or well, no, I mean that.
• 42:21
Speaker 1: You've seen and that you've helped make happen the nation's best.
• 42:29
Speaker 5: I would say, bringing some of the So I would say,
• 42:33
Speaker 5: bringing some of the new Jersey, at least from from
• 42:36
Speaker 5: from my area into the company. And I think, uh,
• 42:40
Speaker 5: I would say, obviously this the growth of the play,
• 42:43
Speaker 5: the play, the growth of them as a player, and
• 42:46
Speaker 5: also the family too. So I would say, uh, this
• 42:49
Speaker 5: helping out these players and also especially the families.
• 42:52
Speaker 1: The parents absolutely, and the joy on these kids faces,
• 42:56
Speaker 1: I mean yeah, and the joy on these kids faces.
• 42:59
Speaker 1: And then Senior Night's very emotional and all that. Yeah, God, it's.
• 43:04
Speaker 5: Seter Knight is always a sad day time, sad time,
• 43:08
Speaker 5: but it does it tells you that they're how hard
• 43:11
Speaker 5: they work to get to that point.
• 43:13
Speaker 1: All right, Let's say there's a kid that wants to
• 43:19
Speaker 1: sign up, but you're not sure if they can make it,
• 43:23
Speaker 1: you know, past certain level. How do you approach those
• 43:25
Speaker 1: kids also, because look, yeah there's a good five percent
• 43:29
Speaker 1: of all these sports and actually get to the show, right,
• 43:32
Speaker 1: So how do you coach those kids that want that
• 43:36
Speaker 1: believe they could do it, or maybe their parents believe
• 43:38
Speaker 1: they could do it. But let's have a reality check here.
• 43:42
Speaker 5: Well if that if it comes to that situation, then
• 43:46
Speaker 5: I mean we still we still have conversations with them
• 43:49
Speaker 5: to see how it can they can get better, and
• 43:52
Speaker 5: we put them with the right resources too, so we
• 43:54
Speaker 5: try to help them too in a different way or
• 43:57
Speaker 5: we can try. We still to try to bring him on,
• 44:00
Speaker 5: but uh, we have other resources that can we can
• 44:03
Speaker 5: help them out to get better as a player, as
• 44:06
Speaker 5: a as a person. So yeah, we still helped them out,
• 44:09
Speaker 5: but we just guide him and guide these players in
• 44:12
Speaker 5: a different way. All right.
• 44:13
Speaker 1: Now, adaptive sports, as you know, I cover that a
• 44:15
Speaker 1: lot on the show. I'm seeing wheelchair basketball on the
• 44:19
Speaker 1: rise all these D one schools. Has Nations Best expanded
• 44:24
Speaker 1: to cover adaptive sports as well?
• 44:28
Speaker 5: Yeah, Actually we're trying to I have I got in
• 44:31
Speaker 5: touch actually during Super Bowl week at the radio, I
• 44:33
Speaker 5: got in touch with this guy who's who is who
• 44:36
Speaker 5: served in the military. Now he's part of the wheelchair
• 44:41
Speaker 5: some wheelchair Olympics. Yeah, so we're trying to we're trying
• 44:46
Speaker 5: to work start working with these players, for these players
• 44:49
Speaker 5: that have that are in wheelchairs, that are playing basketball
• 44:53
Speaker 5: any other sports. So yeah, we're trying to get what
• 44:55
Speaker 5: we want to expand uh everywhere. So we're trying to
• 45:00
Speaker 5: make that happen to work with wheelchair athletes also.
• 45:03
Speaker 1: So all right, so you have the agent and then
• 45:06
Speaker 1: you have the recruiter for the college. How does that mix?
• 45:11
Speaker 1: How does that get I mean, does the recruiter negotiating
• 45:14
Speaker 1: for the school or who does the or I guess
• 45:17
Speaker 1: i'd be a coach to negotiating for the school on
• 45:19
Speaker 1: half of both school work.
• 45:21
Speaker 5: Yeah, both does the negotiations and obviously the coaches are
• 45:25
Speaker 5: obviously the team has to do the recruiting, all right,
• 45:28
Speaker 5: So but we do all Once that happened, then both
• 45:32
Speaker 5: of us do the negotiations together with the with the team.
• 45:36
Speaker 1: When the QB from Tennessee went to u C l
• 45:39
Speaker 1: A last year, That to me was a short fire
• 45:42
Speaker 1: sign of where the sport is going.
• 45:44
  Speaker 4: Right.
• 45:44
Speaker 1: Where this is going is if I don't get the
• 45:46
Speaker 1: money here, I'm going to go elsewhere. But Nittan as
• 45:50
Speaker 1: an agent, don't you also practice, Hey, you want to
• 45:53
Speaker 1: look good for these schools, because that's going to show
• 45:55
Speaker 1: your character. I mean, to me, bailing out of a
• 45:58
Speaker 1: college program because they're not getting paid enough, that's not
• 46:01
Speaker 1: a good character move right there. Yeah.
• 46:06
Speaker 5: Yeah, so and plus you'll get that with some at
• 46:08
Speaker 5: least worrying about only the money too. So but we
• 46:13
Speaker 5: gotta there's but we still find a way to help them,
• 46:16
Speaker 5: guide them to the right right path and get to
• 46:19
Speaker 5: try to get them focused and and and and be
• 46:22
Speaker 5: a team player. And if they do that, then they're
• 46:24
Speaker 5: going to succeed. So but sometimes you'll get players that
• 46:27
Speaker 5: only focus on themselves and only want the money. So
• 46:30
  Speaker 5: that's that's no good for us, and that's a bad
• 46:32
Speaker 5: look on them. So we got and we always find
• 46:35
Speaker 5: a way to push them to the right path. So
• 46:38
  Speaker 5: that's the goal.
• 46:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it give me about the money, it's
• 46:40
Speaker 1: got to be Hey, you know what this team's giving
• 46:43
Speaker 1: me an opportunity, This college give me an opportunity and
• 46:47
Speaker 1: you don't have to go inside the boardroom or the
• 46:49
  Speaker 1: negotiation room.
• 46:50
  Speaker 5: Right.
• 46:50
Speaker 1: But the bad rap is these student athletes don't really
• 46:55
Speaker 1: do the school part because of the how big the
• 46:57
Speaker 1: school is and all that. But in your student athletes,
• 47:00
Speaker 1: do you find a lot of them are about doing
• 47:03
Speaker 1: the school work as well?
• 47:06
Speaker 5: Yeah, so that's the main thing. Obviously academics is number one.
• 47:11
Speaker 5: And obviously doing good in school. And that's the main
• 47:14
Speaker 5: thing we bring up too to the athletes that we
• 47:16
Speaker 5: work with our nation's best. And I'll you try to
• 47:20
Speaker 5: try to say if you if you want to get
• 47:21
Speaker 5: to your goal, then the go study in your books,
• 47:25
Speaker 5: do good in school and and get and do and
• 47:28
Speaker 5: get the right grades. And that's why parents always say
• 47:33
Speaker 5: academics comes first before a sports so oh good.
• 47:36
Speaker 1: So there's that mindset. And you know this happens in
• 47:39
Speaker 1: a very local thing. I mean, how is it that
• 47:43
Speaker 1: these maybe you know it from this perspective now, I've
• 47:47
Speaker 1: always thought there's such a geographical shift between how the
• 47:50
Speaker 1: recruiting goes in an SEC conference between the Big East Conference. Right,
• 47:56
Speaker 1: is the Big East comers like that more local minded
• 47:59
Speaker 1: compared to SEC, or is it that maybe kids are
• 48:04
Speaker 1: dredging the local schools as much as they used to be,
• 48:06
Speaker 1: Like where's the shift here?
• 48:09
Speaker 5: Well, like I'll give you example. So when it comes
• 48:14
Speaker 5: to like recruiting, UH from different schools, even smaller schools.
• 48:20
Speaker 5: That's why I like coaches like Bill Belichick when it
• 48:22
Speaker 5: comes to recruiting. He loves going going to getting players
• 48:26
Speaker 5: from New Jersey like Ruggery players. And that's why I
• 48:29
Speaker 5: respect him a lot, because he likes there's a lot
• 48:31
Speaker 5: of talent and that the people don't know about in
• 48:34
Speaker 5: certain states like New Jersey, we have a lot of
• 48:36
Speaker 5: great talent. So when it comes to now these aces,
• 48:39
Speaker 5: team coaches and teams do go in depth with the
• 48:44
Speaker 5: hidden like hidden gem tailands and different states, especially New Jersey.
• 48:48
Speaker 5: So I would say it's expanding, really expanded really well
• 48:51
Speaker 5: to especially in college recruiting.
• 48:54
Speaker 1: So well, I know this, it's gonna be a crazy
• 49:01
Speaker 1: It's gonna be a crazy few weeks here with March madness.
• 49:04
Speaker 1: And I want to get you out because look around
• 49:07
Speaker 1: this time is when the college world is highlighted and
• 49:09
Speaker 1: I feel like Nation's best and you should have a
• 49:13
Speaker 1: face to this because maybe there's a kid that gets
• 49:16
Speaker 1: intrigued by this and okay, I want to do that next.
• 49:19
Speaker 1: So you're there to support that journey, I gotta believe.
• 49:23
Speaker 5: Yep. We're all here to support everyone obviously, every and
• 49:28
Speaker 5: try to get to try to get people into the goals,
• 49:32
Speaker 5: into the into the pros or wherever they want to be.
• 49:35
Speaker 5: So that's always a goal. So pushing each other to
• 49:38
Speaker 5: the goat path, to the right path.
• 49:40
Speaker 1: All right, let's talk about the talk show with Java Chamberlain.
• 49:43
Speaker 1: How's that been going.
• 49:45
Speaker 5: Good? Uh so, Joba right, yes, yes, them out. But
• 49:51
Speaker 5: the stay tuned. There's gonna be a name change here
• 49:53
Speaker 5: pretty soon with the show. Java is gonna step down
• 49:56
Speaker 5: as we speak. He's busy with his son and also
• 49:59
Speaker 5: he's gonna be a new name. But so we added
• 50:01
Speaker 5: Quentin Copples to our team. He's a former New York
• 50:04
Speaker 5: Jets player, so he'll be added to the staff to
• 50:07
Speaker 5: replace Java for now. So there's gonna be a new
• 50:10
Speaker 5: name change. Stay tuned for that. But it's been the
• 50:13
Speaker 5: show has been good. We've been ranked in the top
• 50:15
Speaker 5: one hundreds and even top fifty. So the show is
• 50:19
Speaker 5: going to We're doing something special over there. So I'm
• 50:21
Speaker 5: glad to be their pr manager for that show, and
• 50:24
Speaker 5: a lot of things are happening, so tonight we are
• 50:25
Speaker 5: alive actually tonight on the at six forty five.
• 50:30
Speaker 1: All right, Well, we'll be tuning in then and Nithan,
• 50:32
Speaker 1: enjoy the whole tournament and always glad to catch up
