- 0:03Don Armstrong: From our Jewel City studios in Texas, USA, it's the In Wheel Time Car Talk Show.
- 0:09Don Armstrong: Just ahead.
- 0:10Don Armstrong: Mr.
- 0:10Don Armstrong: Carfax Patrick Olsen joins us.
- 0:12Don Armstrong: Jeff has the motor minute, and I'll review the 2026.
- 0:16Don Armstrong: I want to make sure that I've got this right.
- 0:19Don Armstrong: I'll review the 2026 Land Rover Range Rover.
- 0:23unknown: Right.
- 0:23Don Armstrong: Now you're going to say, Well, wait a minute, Don.
- 0:26Don Armstrong: Didn't you have that not too long ago?
- 0:28Don Armstrong: Yes, I did have the Range Rover, but this is another one and it's different.
- 0:34Don Armstrong: Different color.
- 0:35Don Armstrong: Different color and uh different propulsion.
- 0:38Don Armstrong: Oh.
- 0:39Don Armstrong: There's that.
- 0:40Don Armstrong: There's propulsion.
- 0:42Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 0:42Don Armstrong: Um, meaning that this particular vehicle is the dynamic autobiography.
- 0:50Don Armstrong: No, auto.
- 0:52Don Armstrong: Yeah, autobiography.
- 0:54Don Armstrong: We're gonna review it.
- 0:54Don Armstrong: And and yeah, we are.
- 0:56Don Armstrong: If I can if I can get the name out, get this.
- 0:59Don Armstrong: This is the sport dynamic se ph e vent place your raids with.
- 1:05Don Armstrong: Is that they don't even make a bumper sticker this big enough to hold all of that.
- 1:09Jeff Dziekan: Oh wow.
- 1:10Don Armstrong: Or a bumper.
- 1:11Jeff Dziekan: They don't even make bumpers that big anymore.
- 1:12Don Armstrong: Well, that that's all that's all colored in.
- 1:14Mike Marrs: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:15Don Armstrong: Anyway, we have Patrick.
- 1:17Mike Marrs: Yes, sir.
- 1:19Mike Marrs: Absolutely.
- 1:20Don Armstrong: Well, let's get Patrick up here and talk to him.
- 1:22Don Armstrong: Patrick Olson, you sir, are in the hot seat.
- 1:26Don Armstrong: Okay, I'm ready.
- 1:29Don Armstrong: You're always you're always ready.
- 1:30Don Armstrong: Hey man, it's good to see you.
- 1:31Don Armstrong: How you been?
- 1:32Don Armstrong: Great, I'm doing well.
- 1:33Don Armstrong: How are you guys doing?
- 1:34Don Armstrong: Well, well, pretty good.
- 1:35Don Armstrong: Pretty good.
- 1:35Don Armstrong: So uh Patrick is the editor-in-chief at Carfax.
- 1:39Don Armstrong: And if you don't know about Carfax, what rock are you living under?
- 1:44Don Armstrong: Because how long has Carfax been around?
- 1:47SPEAKER_03: We've been around really since 1984.
- 1:49SPEAKER_03: We passed our 40th anniversary a couple years back now.
- 1:53Don Armstrong: Wow.
- 1:53Don Armstrong: Well, congratulations, because uh, you know, um, all of us that are in the car business, and I kind of some sort of way consider us in the car business, um uh we know about Carfax.
- 2:06Don Armstrong: But you know, it wasn't on the tip of everybody's tongue in 1984.
- 2:12Don Armstrong: And I think this is just me and my observations, Carfax really didn't get going until the dealers brought it into the dealerships and say, This used car right here has got a Carfax on it, and then all of a sudden it exploded.
- 2:29Don Armstrong: Well, it was for them to to have someone else do the work for them.
- 2:32Don Armstrong: But basically, yeah, yeah.
- 2:35Don Armstrong: And I'm am I wrong on that?
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: No, I think and I think it was tied into that was the the with the was a phrase we still use today, which is show me the Carfax, right?
- 2:44SPEAKER_03: Um when we when we launched first with the very first uh Carfax commercial using Car Fox, Car Fox was actually a hand puppet that a dealer was using to fool somebody.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: Um, and then we made Car Fox our mascot, and uh recognition of Carfax nationally exploded.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: People everywhere knew us and knew us from the Fox.
- 3:07SPEAKER_03: But I think it's that concept of show me the Carfax um that really got into dealers' heads and then got into consumers' heads after that.
- 3:15Don Armstrong: So, what what is it about Carfax that really changed the way that used cars are sold?
- 3:21Don Armstrong: Because it's not just the fact that every not every car has a Carfax with it, and um and there are those that have a Carfax with it, and you're going, well, wait a minute, that car's been wrecked.
- 3:35Don Armstrong: So you and those that haven't been wrecked, so those that are that are in perfect shape.
- 3:40Don Armstrong: So, how does all of that play into the way that many people, I won't say most, but uh many people buy cars these days?
- 3:49Don Armstrong: I know I do, yeah.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: So I would say one of the things is for us, you know, um VINs became standard in the US in 1981.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: And so for almost every VIN since then, um, and mostly for mainstream vehicles, but we still for exotics, um, we have a Carfax report for that.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: And what's changed over the years is from '84 till around 2014, we focused almost exclusively on vehicle history and looking at when cars got serviced, when cars got re-registered, when cars went through a safety inspection.
- 4:24SPEAKER_03: Um, but we've added different things over the years.
- 4:26SPEAKER_03: Like around 2018, we added our history-based values.
- 4:30SPEAKER_03: So instead of just carrying what the year McModel and mileage of your car was, we cared about those service visits and we cared about um the accidents you and damage your car may have received.
- 4:41SPEAKER_03: And now, you know, we do sort of a past present and future on the Carfax Report.
- 4:46SPEAKER_03: The past, we have all the work that's been done in the car, the present, that history-based value in the future.
- 4:51SPEAKER_03: We now have reliability predictions for most vehicles anywhere from three years old to just past 10 years old.
- 4:58SPEAKER_03: And we can tell you what we estimate is the likelihood that you're gonna need a major repair on that particular vehicle, that specific VIN, uh, over the next three years.
- 5:07Jeff Dziekan: So the information on a person's car is only uh communicated to Carfax if that particular facility reports it, or does it go off the VIN number automatically?
- 5:20Jeff Dziekan: And the second part is if it does Carfax notice gaps in the history.
- 5:26Jeff Dziekan: Maybe he had a fender bender that uh the guy down the street fixed it for you and it's not reported, but it looks like it's had an accident.
- 5:33Jeff Dziekan: So, do you see those things as well?
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: Uh, so let me think of the first one first.
- 5:38Jeff Dziekan: Sure.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: So, yeah, not everything is reported to us.
- 5:40SPEAKER_03: There are uh plenty of guys, I imagine uh a fair number of your viewers who are doing their own oil change or doing what have you.
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: So if and what's great is if they do that, they can report in the car care, the Carvax car care app, which is free.
- 5:55SPEAKER_03: You can't buy anything in it, but you can note, hey, I did an oil change, and here are my receipts for the oil that I bought.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: It won't be on the vehicle history report, but it'll be in the app that you can show a potential buyer.
- 6:07SPEAKER_03: Um, but we are, you know, we are limited to what is reported to us.
- 6:11SPEAKER_03: But I can tell you, we are approaching a hundred thousand different service shops and dealerships who are reporting things to us, in addition to you know, uh registration and safety inspection and admissions inspections.
- 6:24SPEAKER_03: So we've got a pretty good view on virtually every vehicle on the road in the U.S.
- 6:29SPEAKER_03: today.
- 6:30Don Armstrong: Okay, and that that was gonna be my next question.
- 6:32Don Armstrong: So, what about Joe's repair shop in uh Sandusky, Ohio?
- 6:38Don Armstrong: Oh, I've been there.
- 6:40Don Armstrong: You have?
- 6:40Don Armstrong: I bet you have.
- 6:42Don Armstrong: That was for something completely different.
- 6:44Don Armstrong: I I think it turned into some sort of never mind.
- 6:46Mike Marrs: I think it was a doctor's office, actually.
- 6:50Don Armstrong: So, you know, I mean, this is basically a one-man shop.
- 6:53Don Armstrong: Yeah, he does oil changes, he does light repairs, he doesn't do engine overhauls and that sort of stuff.
- 6:59Don Armstrong: Um, what happens if that's the guy that you trust with your car?
- 7:03Don Armstrong: And there are a lot of guys out there like that.
- 7:06Don Armstrong: And so can he report to Carfax?
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, he can.
- 7:11SPEAKER_03: And as your as a customer who goes down for that work, you can ask him to report it to Carfax, and we will eagerly take that information into our system.
- 7:21SPEAKER_03: What we tell a lot of repair shops and service places is we're helping you and helping your customer because the more that consumers know about the work that was done on that vehicle, honestly, the more that vehicle is worth when it comes time to sell it.
- 7:35SPEAKER_03: So um, I think our the average we found uh over time for cars that have service records versus those that don't is something in the neighborhood of$1,500 when it comes when it comes time to resell it.
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: So, unless you are keep buying a vehicle and driving it into the ground and you plan to sell it after three, five, seven years, it's crucial that you keep track of that.
- 7:58SPEAKER_03: Uh and having your mechanic report to Carfax is an easy way to make sure that it's locked.
- 8:04Don Armstrong: Does it cost Joes in Sandusky, Ohio, money to report this to you?
- 8:09Don Armstrong: It does not, it costs him nothing.
- 8:11Don Armstrong: So, how do you qualify him or quantify him, however you want to put it, to make the report on the car that he just serviced?
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: Well, but now you've gotten into a realm that's probably a little bit over my head and out of my wheel.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: Didn't mean to do that.
- 8:26Don Armstrong: That wasn't okay.
- 8:28Don Armstrong: So uh so he can report, you know, that he changed a water pump on the car, and that and that he changed the oil in it and did a general inspection, you know, and he did a right front brake and he replaced the pads in that and that sort of thing.
- 8:42Don Armstrong: Yes, gotcha.
- 8:44Don Armstrong: All right, and does it cost him anything to do that?
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: It shouldn't, no.
- 8:47Don Armstrong: Okay, yeah, all right.
- 8:49Mike Marrs: And I will tell you I will tell you that my one of my granddaughters just bought her first car, went through that whole process.
- 8:56Mike Marrs: Okay, here's how you go down and set up the financing.
- 8:59Mike Marrs: And and one of the things when she did find the car she wanted, uh I I told her, ask him for the car fax, ask him if he's got one.
- 9:08Mike Marrs: So she got that, and it it showed a one-owner car, bought from that dealership, traded back in, had all the records on it.
- 9:15Mike Marrs: A little high on the mileage, but like I told her, I said, here's where it shows how well that car was taken care of.
- 9:21Mike Marrs: Yeah, you know, and and and that was that was very important.
- 9:25Mike Marrs: And and uh I was really glad that she had that and made her made her feel a little bit better about buying the car.
- 9:30Don Armstrong: Well, these certified used cars, Patrick, uh do they differ from uh a regular used car dealership?
- 9:39SPEAKER_03: Well, so that really uh a certified pre-armed car CPO, as we call them, that's really up to automakers, right?
- 9:45SPEAKER_03: So Toyota and Lexus and GM and whoever they set up their own rules as to what those are.
- 9:52SPEAKER_03: But uh talking about the car that your daughter bought, uh, we just recently introduced a new approach um to help consumers identify cars just like that, which is a car that's bought at the dealership, gets serviced at that dealership, that dealer buys it back and then puts it for sale.
- 10:09SPEAKER_03: We call that a homegrown car.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: And we have found when dealers call that out to shoppers that those cars sell faster and they sell for more money.
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: So consumers, and like your daughter did, there's you it's nice to know that this guy sold it originally, this guy took care of it.
- 10:26SPEAKER_03: He's very familiar with this vehicle, and now he's selling it.
- 10:30SPEAKER_03: Um, and it it in consumers' eyes makes those cars seem a little bit more legit.
- 10:35SPEAKER_03: Well, CPO is another way to think about cars being better handled, better inspected.
- 10:41Mike Marrs: Um a little bit better taken care of.
- 10:43Mike Marrs: Yeah, exactly.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: Maybe it's a little more expensive, but there's some peace of mind because almost always a CPO car comes with some level of extended warranty, which is yeah.
- 10:53Jeff Dziekan: There's also variations of what a CPO is because the dealership will, you know, 127-point inspection, you know, a you know, check make sure all the bolts are tight.
- 11:02Jeff Dziekan: And then you've got the guy in the corner with six or seven cars that says we check 14 pieces of the vehicle to make sure because they're all they're doing is protecting themselves, yeah, the service, especially the used car side of it.
- 11:14Jeff Dziekan: So CPO varies for different uh organizations.
- 11:17SPEAKER_03: Yes, and it's important, I think, to really look at uh the the definitions and descriptions of what CPO is to make sure you're getting that value out of it.
- 11:27SPEAKER_03: Yes, sir.
- 11:28Mike Marrs: Yep, yeah.
- 11:29Don Armstrong: Now okay, go ahead, Mike.
- 11:31Mike Marrs: That was a great statement you made about the the dealership using that.
- 11:35Mike Marrs: They didn't.
- 11:35Mike Marrs: This dealership, I mean it's a new car dealership, but uh they didn't.
- 11:39Mike Marrs: She had to ask for it.
- 11:40Mike Marrs: Yeah, and and if he would have said, yes, here, let me show you this.
- 11:44Mike Marrs: I mean, she's 21 years old, let me show you this on your first car.
- 11:48Mike Marrs: Here's some of the good things.
- 11:49Mike Marrs: To me, that would have been a very that would have pushed her a little bit quicker into making that decision.
- 11:54Jeff Dziekan: Exactly.
- 11:54Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, a little place of sale.
- 11:56Mike Marrs: Yes.
- 11:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's a relatively relatively new idea that we're pushing.
- 12:02SPEAKER_03: I mean, honestly, we launched this back, I think, at the NADA show in February.
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: And so I think for a lot of dealerships, they haven't really considered it.
- 12:09SPEAKER_03: But we've done some case studies, and we definitely see a very positive response from consumers around cars and where they feel like, hey, they know this car, and they're not selling me something they bought hot off the street yesterday.
- 12:23SPEAKER_03: It's been here and it's been back here, and you know, they know what's working, they know what's not.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they're proud of it.
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: They want to show it off.
- 12:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:30Don Armstrong: Patrick, how much how if I'm in the market for a used car and um I I found one that I'm kind of honed in on, um, how much does it cost me to run a Carfax on that?
- 12:43SPEAKER_03: So if you want to buy a Carfax report, um, which is great, we we encourage it.
- 12:48SPEAKER_03: It's$45 currently.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: Um, but I would really push the seller, uh, whether it's private party or dealership, hey, you know, give me the Carfax because there's a level of transparency there and trust that that seller should be saying, should be eager to give you the Carfax.
- 13:07SPEAKER_03: The 50 bucks or whatever or less if it's a dealer that it costs them to persuade you or convince you of the value of the car that you're trying to buy, that should be a a positive to the dealer or to the private party seller.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: If if particularly private party doesn't want to give you the Carfax, I would A, make sure I buy one, and B, go through it very carefully.
- 13:28Don Armstrong: Yeah, wonder why I'm sorry.
- 13:31Don Armstrong: When I when I get ready to sell the 2001 Corvette, yeah, it's never been wrecked, it's had several owners, but it's been garage kept.
- 13:38Don Armstrong: This thing's baby, and yeah, you know, it's it's it's it's a nice car.
- 13:43Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 13:43Don Armstrong: Um, when I get ready to sell it, so it would be it'd behoove me to buy the Carfax on uh and and say, hey, look, you want here's the Carfax.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: Yep, absolutely.
- 13:54SPEAKER_03: Because I think that just shows to the buyer, I'm not hiding anything, right?
- 13:58SPEAKER_03: I'm not trying to obfuscate, I'm not trying to distract you.
- 14:02SPEAKER_03: Boom.
- 14:02SPEAKER_03: Here's here's the details.
- 14:04Jeff Dziekan: So, Patrick, I've worked on his car.
- 14:06Jeff Dziekan: Should I report it to Carfax?
- 14:08Jeff Dziekan: No, he doesn't want to be buying.
- 14:10Jeff Dziekan: No, that that then the value would go down.
- 14:12Don Armstrong: We don't want that.
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, we we do have dealer and server shop ratings.
- 14:18SPEAKER_03: I I don't know if you personally have any, but he does.
- 14:21Mike Marrs: You just can't say him on public ships.
- 14:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you do know we do.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: We get user reviews from people who we know are at the dealership.
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: So this isn't Bob owns a server shop and goes back on his computer and writes up 16 positive reviews of himself.
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: We're only pinging people we know got service there, and we're asking them what they think.
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: Um, and those are what what populates our dealership and service shop user reviews.
- 14:46Don Armstrong: So we it would behoove me if I bought a new car to join Carfax and be able to report all of that stuff, and then you would know that I'm a legit guy with this particular car.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 14:59SPEAKER_03: The the beauty of getting the Carfax Car Care app, which is where you would uh register your van, again, cost you nothing.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: But we would tell you, for example, like if you had a brand new recall, there was one this week for a half a million Kia tellurides with a park outside recall, meaning they want you to park it away from buildings.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: But we would tell you that instantly, and whether it's for a brand new uh telluride, whether it's for a 2010 Ford Escape or something, that's the beauty of the app, is it is constantly keeping you up to date, not only in the services that you need, um, in your favorite dealerships and service shops, but also when new information comes in, like, hey, there's a recall for this, you got to get it fixed.
- 15:41Don Armstrong: So, where is the Carfax Tower in America that holds 10,000 people putting all this information in?
- 15:48SPEAKER_03: Uh well, it's it's more like 1,500 people.
- 15:50SPEAKER_03: Um, and we are all over the country.
- 15:52SPEAKER_03: Our headquarters are in Centerville, Virginia.
- 15:55SPEAKER_03: We have an office in London, Ontario.
- 15:57SPEAKER_03: We have an office in Columbia, Missouri, and Columbia, Missouri was the original home of Carfax.
- 16:03SPEAKER_03: Um, but we have got people all over the country.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: For example, I'm talking to you today out of my house in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
- 16:09SPEAKER_03: So we are all over the place.
- 16:11Jeff Dziekan: Well, when they open up a Maui office, we're in.
- 16:15Jeff Dziekan: Maui.
- 16:15SPEAKER_03: We'll do that when we have I will I might have to go scope it out first just to make sure it's okay.
- 16:20SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 16:21Don Armstrong: Go and you also uh get everything running, and you're also taking the in-wheel time car talk show with you to help promote the fact that you're opening up a Maui office.
- 16:30SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 16:31SPEAKER_03: I mean, it really wouldn't be the same without y'all.
- 16:33Don Armstrong: That's you hear that, Virginia?
- 16:37Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 16:38Don Armstrong: Well, well, Patrick, it's always great to talk to you.
- 16:41Don Armstrong: Is there any uh parting thoughts that you'd like to give us?
- 16:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the the last thing I'll tell you is we added uh back at the beginning of the year something called dependability.
- 16:52SPEAKER_03: And we look at uh a vehicle, let's say like a Chevy Tahoe, at the percentage that have made it to 150,000 miles, percentage that made it to 200,000 miles, and the percentage that are still on the road after 20 years, and we compare those to the same model year and average.
- 17:08SPEAKER_03: And I'm telling you guys, for your viewers, that is going to be an eye-opening to see which models make it to 150, how many make it to 200,000, the delta between those two, there's a huge drop-off, and then how many are still on the road today.
- 17:21SPEAKER_03: If you are looking for a used car, there's some great details there in our research pages.
- 17:26Don Armstrong: Does it cost us anything?
- 17:28Don Armstrong: Does it cost us anything to get that?
- 17:30SPEAKER_03: Cost you zero.
- 17:31SPEAKER_03: Go to Carfax.com slash research and have at it.
- 17:34Jeff Dziekan: And that's just if there's no gaps in that information, too.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: So well, we've got we've got literally more than 35 billion records that we use.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: We have no gaps in that information.
- 17:44SPEAKER_03: Gotcha.
- 17:44Don Armstrong: Patrick, it's great to talk to you.
- 17:46Don Armstrong: Stay cool up there now.
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: Here, yeah.
- 17:48SPEAKER_03: All right, trying.
- 17:49Don Armstrong: Yeah, all right, all right, brother.
- 17:50Don Armstrong: We'll talk to you again, hopefully toward the end of the year.
- 17:53Don Armstrong: All right, man.
- 17:53Don Armstrong: Sounds good.
- 17:54Don Armstrong: You guys see you in Maui.
- 17:55Don Armstrong: Yeah, take care.
- 17:56Don Armstrong: All right, yeah.
- 17:58Don Armstrong: See you in Maui.
- 17:59Mike Marrs: Yeah.
- 18:00Don Armstrong: You know, I don't, I don't, I wouldn't want to go to Maui right now.
- 18:04Don Armstrong: I mean, if the weather's there, it's always the same.
- 18:07Don Armstrong: I want to go, you know, the weather's really different.
- 18:09Jeff Dziekan: You know, you're on an island, you got all the other other islands around.

- 20:21Don Armstrong: I'm thinking uh that was uh oh gosh.
- 20:24Don Armstrong: Lawrence Well got a one-a and a two-a.

- 20:28Mike Marrs: Champagne bubbles coming up from behind.
- 20:30Don Armstrong: Well, there's the those are the that's the champagne orchestra.
- 20:33Mike Marrs: Yeah, all right.
- 20:34Don Armstrong: Time now for the motor minute champagne.
- 20:37Don Armstrong: Okay, ready to go.
- 20:38Jeff Dziekan: Well, the motor minute is just I've got some interesting car facts, not no, see, car facts from uh Patrick.
- 20:44Jeff Dziekan: This is just information that we may not know.
- 20:47Jeff Dziekan: But uh the most expensive country uh to buy a new car would be in Singapore.
- 20:54Jeff Dziekan: Uh you have to have a certif a certificate of entitlement or a COE that provides.
- 20:59Don Armstrong: I know some several ex-wives like that.
- 21:02Don Armstrong: Certificates of entitlement.
- 21:03Jeff Dziekan: No, those are that's alimony.
- 21:05Jeff Dziekan: Um the policy aims to reduce congestion and limiting the number of cars on the road.
- 21:10Jeff Dziekan: So you're only selected, you have to show the means and you can not clog up the roads.
- 21:15Jeff Dziekan: Um it's about 7,807 people per square kilometer.
- 21:22Jeff Dziekan: That's how many people they have.
- 21:24Jeff Dziekan: How many square miles is that?
- 21:26Jeff Dziekan: It's 247 uh square.
- 21:29Jeff Dziekan: So if you got a calculator, you can figure it out.
- 21:32Jeff Dziekan: We're gonna use a calculator in all of this.
- 21:34Jeff Dziekan: So the longest car in the world was built by a person that is a car guru in California called Jay Olberg.
- 21:40Jeff Dziekan: Uh, Guinness Book of World Records has the longest car ever at 100 meters, which is 328 feet for those listening.
- 21:46Jeff Dziekan: Uh car was built with a swimming pool, a diving board, king-size waterbed, and a helipad.
- 21:51Jeff Dziekan: How about that?
- 21:53Jeff Dziekan: The cheapest car in the world is a Tata Nano.
- 21:56Jeff Dziekan: Tata Mano.
- 21:58Jeff Dziekan: Tata.
- 22:00Jeff Dziekan: The car is the world's cheapest car.
- 22:02Jeff Dziekan: It's a rear-wheel drive car that's at speeds of 105 kilometers.
- 22:06Jeff Dziekan: Again, that's 65.24 miles per hour.
- 22:09Jeff Dziekan: Uh, when it was first introduced, the car was only 1400 bucks.
- 22:13Jeff Dziekan: Now it's around between 32 and 4600.
- 22:15Jeff Dziekan: I guess the materials of the Tata have gone up.
- 22:18Jeff Dziekan: Hey, world's fastest police car.
- 22:22Jeff Dziekan: There you go.
- 22:22Jeff Dziekan: Uh Dagmars.
- 22:24Jeff Dziekan: The world's fastest police car, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, is in Dubai.
- 22:30Jeff Dziekan: The Dubai Police Department has a Bugatti Veyron, a thousand horsepower.
- 22:34Don Armstrong: Uh wasn't they confiscated from some drug dealers?
- 22:37Jeff Dziekan: Probably, I don't know about drug dealers in in Dubai, but uh confiscated some oil.
- 22:42Jeff Dziekan: Uh 253 miles per hour, which again that's 407 kilometers.
- 22:47Don Armstrong: Why are we doing the kilometers and the media?
- 22:49Jeff Dziekan: Because I just want to mess with your catalyst.
- 22:51Jeff Dziekan: Well, you've done that.
- 22:52Jeff Dziekan: There's no doubt.
- 22:53Jeff Dziekan: Automotive recycling 80% of the average vehicle is recyclable.
- 22:56Jeff Dziekan: 12 million vehicles are recycled every year.
- 22:59Jeff Dziekan: Unbelievably, automotive recycling is the 16th largest industry in the United States.
- 23:05Jeff Dziekan: So, how about that?
- 23:06Jeff Dziekan: Just some interesting car information facts on that.
- 23:09Jeff Dziekan: That is interesting.
- 23:11Don Armstrong: Yeah, some of them burn up right here in the city of Houston.
- 23:14Don Armstrong: Park them outside with some tires over the fence.
- 23:16Don Armstrong: Park them outside.
- 23:17Don Armstrong: Time now for this hour's car review.
- 23:20Don Armstrong: I had the opportunity to drive the 2025 Land Rover Range Rover.
- 23:25Don Armstrong: It is built in Sully Hill, United Kingdom.
- 23:29Don Armstrong: Just thought you'd like to know that where it's built.
- 23:33Don Armstrong: Available trim levels, the dynamic, and the autobiography.
- 23:38Don Armstrong: I had the Sport Dynamic S E P H E V.
- 23:43Don Armstrong: That is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.
- 23:46Don Armstrong: Mid-size SUV.
- 23:48Don Armstrong: Now you'd think that this would be full size.
- 23:49Don Armstrong: Nope, mid-size.
- 23:51Don Armstrong: Five seats in it.
- 23:53Don Armstrong: That would include the driver, clearly.
- 23:55Don Armstrong: It was all new in 2023.
- 23:58Don Armstrong: We're just now getting this in the press fleet, but I'll tell you what.
- 24:01Don Armstrong: Oh my god.
- 24:02Don Armstrong: It's a good looking, good looking vehicle.
- 24:04Don Armstrong: Ooh, it is absolutely beautiful.
- 24:07Don Armstrong: Exterior features, smooth arrow body lines, modern yet conservative.
- 24:14Don Armstrong: All horizontal and slick design throughout.
- 24:18Don Armstrong: Front and rear lighting is no frills, but is extra sleek.
- 24:22Don Armstrong: As a matter of fact, the rear tail lights are kind of like built in to the it looks like the body work on this.
- 24:29Don Armstrong: Like shaved in.
- 24:36Don Armstrong: I know, I think I know what you're talking about.
- 24:38Don Armstrong: It's not the same thing.
- 24:39Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 24:40Don Armstrong: Big wheels are really straightforward and good looking.
- 24:46Don Armstrong: There's nothing fancy about anything.
- 24:48Don Armstrong: It draws your attention.
- 24:50Don Armstrong: The whole thing is just slick.
- 24:52Don Armstrong: How else do you say it?
- 24:53Don Armstrong: It's a good looking car.
- 24:54Don Armstrong: Overall design gets high marks.
- 24:56Don Armstrong: What could use improvement?
- 24:58Don Armstrong: Don't get gray.
- 25:00Don Armstrong: Gray is boring.
- 25:01Don Armstrong: Why would you get a gray car?
- 25:02Don Armstrong: It's almost as if you here.
- 25:04Don Armstrong: Let's go ahead and get the car um sprayed as a primer.
- 25:10Don Armstrong: Let's do the gray primer.
- 25:12Don Armstrong: They don't use red primer anymore.
- 25:13Don Armstrong: I don't know why, but anyway, I just don't understand gray cars, but whatever.
- 25:18Don Armstrong: Interior highlights.
- 25:26Don Armstrong: No frills looking.
- 25:27Don Armstrong: Interior is ultra conservative in its design.
- 25:31Don Armstrong: Materials top-notch with comfortable seating surfaces.
- 25:35Don Armstrong: The infotainment screen is tablet style, kind of small, actually, in comparison to some of the ones that we see today.
- 25:43Don Armstrong: Simple conservative controls for the HVAC.
- 25:47Don Armstrong: And uh, as far as cargo and trunk room is concerned, it is smallish with the second row up.
- 25:53Don Armstrong: Again, this is a mid-size.
- 25:54Don Armstrong: Look how slick that is.
- 25:55Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, it looks nice.
- 25:56Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 25:56Don Armstrong: Now, this is a brand new car.
- 25:58Don Armstrong: You'd think, well, wait a minute.
- 25:59Don Armstrong: That's kind of like the old stripper models of the Nova back in the 1970s.
- 26:04Don Armstrong: No, this isn't.
- 26:05Don Armstrong: Hardly anything.
- 26:06Don Armstrong: Can't even compare it.
- 26:08Don Armstrong: What I liked about it, the simplicity of the look.
- 26:11Don Armstrong: What could use improvement?
- 26:12Don Armstrong: Some of the screens of the infotainment screen, a little complicated to maneuver through.
- 26:17Don Armstrong: I think that I would go back to school on that one.
- 26:20Don Armstrong: But like anything else, you buy a new car, you get used to it, and then it's no big deal.
- 26:25Don Armstrong: All right.
- 26:26Don Armstrong: So what's it got under the hood?
- 26:28Don Armstrong: A three-liter inline six-cylinder that turns up 454 horsepower and 487 pound feet of torque.
- 26:38Don Armstrong: This isn't the big V8.
- 26:40Don Armstrong: This is the three-liter inline six.
- 26:42Don Armstrong: Toes up to 6,600 pounds.
- 26:46Don Armstrong: And if you want to just get on the gas only, it gets 21 miles per gallon.
- 26:52Don Armstrong: Not bad considering you get this all this horse and the lexi.
- 26:56Don Armstrong: Yeah, I know.
- 26:56Don Armstrong: Isn't it beautiful?
- 26:58Don Armstrong: To see it in person is just truly stunning.
- 27:00Don Armstrong: I got 28.3 miles per gallon over 381.8 miles.
- 27:06Don Armstrong: What I liked about it, the power.
- 27:08Don Armstrong: Plenty.
- 27:08Don Armstrong: It's always there.
- 27:09Don Armstrong: What could use improvement?
- 27:11Don Armstrong: Absolutely nothing.
- 27:12Don Armstrong: Uh, maybe a full electric would be interesting to drive.
- 27:16Don Armstrong: Now, I did not get the 110-volt charge cord with this vehicle.
- 27:22Don Armstrong: For some reason, they didn't include it.
- 27:24Don Armstrong: I don't know.
- 27:24Don Armstrong: It would have been nice because I can plug it in here at the house and then at work, they have a 110-volt outlet there.
- 27:31Don Armstrong: And so I could have probably got a lot better gas mileage if I plugged it in all over the place, but I did not.
- 27:36Don Armstrong: So I want to be sure and transparent in that regard.
- 27:41Don Armstrong: What I liked about it, the air suspension, one of the best.
- 27:44Don Armstrong: Plenty of control, but my God, the ride is just to die for.
- 27:49Don Armstrong: Um, what could use improvement there?
- 27:51Don Armstrong: Nothing.
- 27:52Don Armstrong: Base trim price,$95,100.
- 27:56Don Armstrong: I was sitting here thinking, how pretty is that car?
- 27:59Don Armstrong: Price has tested$96,725.
- 28:02Don Armstrong: Base model price$79,450.
- 28:06Don Armstrong: Uh, let me just say this before I get into the competitors.
- 28:10Don Armstrong: This is was actually shocking to me.
- 28:14Don Armstrong: Um, because I have driven vehicles in the$130,000 category.
- 28:19Don Armstrong: This beats them.
- 28:21Don Armstrong: Wow.
- 28:21Don Armstrong: This is probably one of the nicest vehicles on the market today, as far as reliability concerns.
- 28:28Don Armstrong: I don't have them.
- 28:29Don Armstrong: I don't know anything about that.
- 28:31Don Armstrong: Uh I might want to check into that if you're interested in this, but I'll tell you what, if you're interested in a super luxury, beautiful vehicle that has lots of horsepower and you want to impress the neighbors, I think I'd check this one out.
- 28:44Don Armstrong: Okay, here are the competitors.
- 28:45Don Armstrong: The Lexus TX PHEV for 80,000, the BMW X5 PHEV for 76,000, and the Mercedes GLE PHEV for 72,250.
- 28:57Don Armstrong: Next week we review the VW Tigwan SUV, which is a complete redesign.
- 29:02Don Armstrong: I think you'll be interested to hear what I have to say about that.
- 29:05Don Armstrong: So you don't like great cars, do you?
- 29:07unknown: Boy, I'll tell you what, man.
- 29:09Don Armstrong: If if if I were a rich man, which I am not, uh, I would seriously consider buying something like that.
- 29:15Don Armstrong: The wife would love it.
- 29:16Don Armstrong: I had don't have a wife, but you gotta buy the wife, then you get to carry it.
- 29:19Mike Marrs: I think that color's got a lot to do with it.
- 29:21Mike Marrs: That brilliant red.
