- 0:07Eighth, seven thirteen ten Wiba and Ask the Experts joined this morning bear good
- 0:13friend Andrew Larson, of course, Andrew comestrous from Larsen Homes Services the website
- 0:18Larsen Homes Services dot com. That's l A R. S O N Home
- 0:22Services dot com, Dell pH number six oh eight five three five forty three
- 0:26forty three. That's five three five four three four three. Andrew, how
- 0:30you doing this morning. I'm doing great yourself. I'm doing well. Now.
- 0:34I don't work in the biz, so I don't know all of the
- 0:37the ins and outs of homes, and but I know some of the basic
- 0:41stuff. Like I know that in order to have a home, you've got
- 0:43to have a floor, you got to have some walls, and there's another
- 0:46piece that you absolutely have to have for home, and I think it's called
- 0:48a roof. I could be off on that, but I'm pretty sure.
- 0:51Like at the most basic I draw like stick figures, and I can draw
- 0:54a stick home. I always draw like a line for the bottom two lines
- 0:57for some walls, and then like a little v on top to make a
- 0:59roof. That little v on top is really what makes a house a house,
- 1:03and it's an important part. You're artistic just like me. I yes,
- 1:07I have mad stick figure skills. Man, I can do. I
- 1:12think in high school, like, my worst grade was literally an art class.
- 1:19I had this misconception that, like from like elementary school that as long
- 1:23as you just tried. But no, we had a teacher that actually graded
- 1:27on artistic ability. Oh gee, it was wrong class for me. Yeah,
- 1:32I'm with you, man. I like roofs. Yeah, well the
- 1:41way, what's that? They can be a work of art. Roofs can
- 1:42be a work of art. They can be a work of art. They
- 1:46are extremely important, you know, and I never obviously I know roofs are
- 1:51important. But when you really stop and think about it, if you ever
- 1:55drive past an old abandoned building or uh you know, a really old house,
- 2:01like out in a rural area or out in the country, that house
- 2:06will be totally fine until the roof goes and water starts to get in and
- 2:09stuff starts to rot and you get mold and literally everything deteriorates. A good
- 2:15roof on an old barn, that barn will last forever. Kind of kind
- 2:21of it kind of goes the same with your home. If if your roof
- 2:24stays intact and doesn't leak that house, that structure will last for a very,
- 2:30very very long time. And you know, that's why roofing is so
- 2:35important, and that's why we take it so seriously and one of the reasons
- 2:38why we started really trying to get into and you know, people like to
- 2:44call it repairs, and we call it a roof restore because you know,
- 2:49if you're looking for someone to come out and just like replace one pipe boot
- 2:53penetration, that is something that we can do. But typically if your pipe
- 2:55boot or a pipe flashing is leaking, that's because it's gone, it's gotten
- 3:01bad and it's dry rotted. And what do we know that Typically, if
- 3:05you've got five pipe boots on your roof, they were probably all put out
- 3:08at the same time. So replacing one it kind of makes sense to do
- 3:12the rest. And what we do with our roof restoration is a seventeen point
- 3:15inspection on the roof and hey, if your roof is good, we're going
- 3:21to let you know what's good. But if it's bad or there's things that
- 3:25need to be fixed, you know, we're going to let you know that
- 3:29The guys aren't up there to try to sell you a new roof. We're
- 3:32up there to try to restore the roof you have and upon that inspection,
- 3:36if if we just go through and there's too many things, we're gonna recommend
- 3:40a full new roof that's going to last you a lifetime. But if we
- 3:44can fix up a eight, ten twelve year old roof to get you some
- 3:47more time out of it, that's what we're going to do. And you
- 3:50know, saving it's saving a homeowner money. It's also saving shingles from going
- 3:55in a landfill, which is one of the biggest offenders in land that we
- 4:00have. So the roof restoration has become a very, very big part.
- 4:04And it's usually the details that are missed. And I always talk about details,
- 4:09but it's usually the details you get up there. You've got beautiful shingles,
- 4:12it might only be a few years old. Details are missed and roof
- 4:15is leaking. That roof doesn't need to be replaced, it just needs to
- 4:17be restored. It's something that we take a lot of pride in and Larsen
- 4:20Home Services and Andrew the team can do that for you. If you've got
- 4:24questions about your roof, if you haven't had a inspection, recently. Definitely
- 4:28want to check that out as we got a little taste of snow the other
- 4:30day. Winter is coming and you want to be prepared. All get to
- 4:33pick up film this morning and give them a call. Six so eight five
- 4:35three five forty three forty three. That's five three five four three four three
- 4:40for Larsen Home Services. The website Larsenhomeservices dot com. That's l A R.
- 4:45S o N Home Services dot com. Another thing you mentioned when you
- 4:48drive around and noticing old abandoned homes and that kind of what brings them ultimately
- 4:54down. One of the things too, I know Andrew, when you drive
- 4:57around. Something I learned from you and something that I still do to this
- 5:00day is when it snows and I'm driving around, I look at roofs and
- 5:03I specifically look to see is there snow cover is it evenly covering the roof,
- 5:09or are there spots where the snow has melted away. That's an indication
- 5:13of something, isn't it. That's an indication that we have an air ceiling
- 5:16problem. Uh. Yeah. You know a lot of people might think,
- 5:20well that's an insulation. That's an insulation issue. And that's what I love
- 5:26about home performance work. Yeah, is that everybody thinks that they just need
- 5:32more insulation. Now is do you have enough insulation? You possibly might,
- 5:39is the insulation evenly spread, But most likely you've got air seal issues where
- 5:46you've got pipe penetrations, you've got electrical penetrations, you've got can lights,
- 5:50a number of things, chimney chase. They're not air sealed up properly.
- 5:56They're not insulated properly, so they end up becoming just here eat highways for
- 6:00that heat to leave the inside of your home. And you know, there's
- 6:05there's a bunch of companies out there that do insulation, and for the most
- 6:11part, we will call them a blow and go company. And what I
- 6:15mean by that is you google that you need more insulation. They come up,
- 6:20they come over, they stick their head up in the attic, they
- 6:23measure your insulation, and they go, yeap, you need six more inches.
- 6:26Here's your bill, twelve hundred bucks. But what did we actually fix?
- 6:31Nothing is adding more insulation actually going to do anything for your heating bills
- 6:36in the winter. And the answer is not going to do a thing to
- 6:42add a few more inches of inches of insulation, because like a roof when
- 6:46I talk about the most important part of you know, your underlaying, your
- 6:49ice and water, your roof to wall, flashing your pipe penetrations in an
- 6:54attic, there are things more important than the insulation, and that becomes I
- 6:59look at that air ceiling like your flashings, we're flashing the penetration. So
- 7:04I always say with the roof, you put the best shingle in the world
- 7:06on, but you don't do the little things and the details and the stuff
- 7:10underneath properly, it's gonna leak. We could put all the put all the
- 7:13insulation in your attic that we want to, but if we don't fix the
- 7:15floor, if we don't seal up the penetrations, the air is gonna leak
- 7:18out, and it's really not going to do you any good. So if
- 7:21you're driving down the road like you do now, just like I do every
- 7:25day because it's an illness, and I'm looking at somebody's roof, and what's
- 7:30the best is like when it's a frosty morning, so you've got that layer
- 7:32of frost over the roof and you see big melted spots, Well, that
- 7:38is that is heat that we've paid for. That's want up through the attic
- 7:43and out through the roof. That's something that we can come over take a
- 7:46look at. We've got a lot of different tools that we use. We
- 7:50can diagnose what's going on it, show you exactly what's going on, and
- 7:55let you know what it will cost to fix those heating and cooling issues,
- 8:01make your home more comfortable and save money in the long run. So that's
- 8:03that's what we do, and you do it so well. And we talk
- 8:07about, you know, the work that you guys do at Larsen Home Services,
- 8:11and of course talk about Doctor Energy Saver. Is it's really a comprehensive
- 8:15solution. Is as you mentioned, you know, some of those quote unquote
- 8:18blow and go folks, they're literally just kind of masking but not really solving
- 8:22any type of issues. And when we talk about doctor Energy Saver and you
- 8:24talk about what all goes into that analysis of your home and of course actually
- 8:30solving the problem of heat loss, and not only in the obviously in the
- 8:33winter months than heat loss summer months. You think about about that cold there
- 8:37that you're cooling. Of course they can help you conserve that as well and
- 8:41make it so your house is universally comfortable. You don't have cold spots,
- 8:45you don't have warm spots. You've just got a comfortable home and run.
- 8:48The team at Largetome Services would love to make sure this winter for you is
- 8:52a pleasant one and save you on heating bills. All I got to do
