- 0:00Speaker 1: Four big question marks, Shano, heading into tomorrow's game. And
- 0:03Speaker 1: I don't know that they are fatal question marks, but
- 0:05Speaker 1: defensive line, right tackle, the corner opposite Marshall, and this
- 0:10Speaker 1: defensive scheme. Is it going to work? What say you?
- 0:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think you start always with the
- 0:17Speaker 2: line of scrimmage and just what that looks like. I
- 0:20Speaker 2: think Jeep Wade is an improvement. I think they've brought
- 0:24Speaker 2: in better players. They've invested on that. I think Elijah
- 0:26Speaker 2: Pritchett has had an excellent camp. and has put himself
- 0:30Speaker 2: in a better place. So there is a lot there
- 0:33Speaker 2: that you're optimistic about. The D-line doesn't have a lot
- 0:37Speaker 2: of star power, doesn't have a lot of returning numbers.
- 0:40Speaker 2: They had 22 or 23 sacks last year as a defense.
- 0:44Speaker 2: They had six games last year with zero or one sack.
- 0:47Speaker 2: So they've got to improve that production, get after the
- 0:51Speaker 2: quarterback more up front in this scheme and the attack style.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I think that will be something to watch early on,
- 0:58Speaker 2: how Nebraska does in this game up front on both
- 1:01Speaker 2: sides of the line. That will really give us a
- 1:03Speaker 2: good taste of maybe the improvements they've made over the offseason,
- 1:07Speaker 2: kind of where this new scheme is going to be at.
- 1:09Speaker 1: We're seeing in college football this year, and I think
- 1:13Speaker 1: it will probably continue for the first couple of weeks,
- 1:16Speaker 1: I think the results of so many transfers, for example,
- 1:19Speaker 1: Rutgers quarterback Dylan Lonergan last night threw four interceptions and
- 1:23Speaker 1: committed a fumble against an FCS team that had lost
- 1:26Speaker 1: 16 games in a row. So having these guys gel
- 1:30Speaker 1: together might be priority one. What would be your expectations
- 1:34Speaker 1: for tomorrow relative to the efficiency of performance?
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah, just not making it look like a struggle. I mean,
- 1:42Speaker 2: they win the game that you're supposed to, right? But
- 1:46Speaker 2: how clean does it look? How much does the execution,
- 1:51Speaker 2: the big play element of it, Calandria, do they have
- 1:54Speaker 2: to run him a lot this week? I just think
- 1:58Speaker 2: there's a lot of things about this type of game
- 2:01Speaker 2: you want to make sure everything looks and feels right.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Even when you win the game, Because you know what
- 2:09Speaker 2: this type of game is supposed to be. It's supposed
- 2:10Speaker 2: to be a game that you kind of get yourself ready.
- 2:12Speaker 2: But that said, Ohio is a program that's won 9
- 2:15Speaker 2: to 11 games the last four years. And you know
- 2:18Speaker 2: that they've got a lot of guys that have been
- 2:20Speaker 2: a part of winning there. And this won't necessarily be
- 2:23Speaker 2: a cakewalk. And we saw that with Rutgers. I mean,
- 2:25Speaker 2: their spread yesterday, I believe, was like over 30 points
- 2:29Speaker 2: in that game against UMass. That's one of the worst losses, arguably,
- 2:34Speaker 2: for a Big Ten team in history.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Oh, no question. That's the Appalachian State win at the
- 2:38Speaker 1: Big House, you know, 20 years ago.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Appalachian State won the national title.
- 2:42Speaker 1: But they were good. They later proved to be good.
- 2:45Speaker 1: But at the time, it was stunning that they would
- 2:48Speaker 1: go into the Big House and beat Michigan. Now, maybe UMass,
- 2:51Speaker 1: which has had success. When Mark Whipple was their head
- 2:54Speaker 1: coach back in the 90s, they were winning national championships.
- 2:57Speaker 1: But 16 L's in a row, oh, my God. Okay,
- 3:00Speaker 1: keys to the game, Shano.
- 3:03Speaker 2: The biggest key, again, the line of scrimmage. Can Nebraska
- 3:07Speaker 2: handle themselves up front in this game, kind of establish
- 3:10Speaker 2: their depth? I think Ohio's offense has a lot of questions.
- 3:16Speaker 2: A lot of things. I think Nebraska's defense needs to
- 3:19Speaker 2: be able to set the tone in this game and
- 3:22Speaker 2: get a push. Can Calandria have a couple of those
- 3:24Speaker 2: wow moments where he makes something out of nothing? It's
- 3:28Speaker 2: going to be a big part of this season for
- 3:30Speaker 2: Nebraska in this football game. And then again, the depth.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Nebraska needs to be able to use their depth in
- 3:37Speaker 2: this heat and hopefully by late third quarter let that
- 3:40Speaker 2: take over this football game.
- 3:42Speaker 1: All right, bud. Well, you're going to want to get
- 3:44Speaker 1: your rickshaw going early tomorrow because of all the road
- 3:47Speaker 1: construction down there. It's not going to be easy to
- 3:50Speaker 1: get around downtown Lincoln, so we encourage people to leave
- 3:53Speaker 1: in 20 minutes. Is that true, or are you just
- 3:55Speaker 1: being negative about this? No, it's true.
- 3:57Speaker 2: It's a mess. It's going to be a challenge, folks.
- 4:00Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, in fact, if you want to get
- 4:02Speaker 1: to your parking space, bye. Say 10 o'clock tomorrow morning,
- 4:06Speaker 1: you need to leave now. You can bring a bottle
- 4:08Speaker 1: of water, though. You can have a sealed bottle of water.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Just don't bring it. Not a bottle of vodka.
- 4:14Speaker 1: I wonder what's going to be in the bottle of water.
- 4:17Speaker 1: But please try not to throw it at anybody if
- 4:20Speaker 1: things start to go south in the third quarter. That's
- 4:22Speaker 1: all we ask.
- 4:24Speaker 2: All right, Sean.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Thanks, by the way. The Husker Online pregame show is
- 4:27Speaker 1: at 6 o'clock tonight, and I will actually be listening nonstop.
- 4:32Speaker 1: As I drive around the state looking for a high
- 4:34Speaker 1: school football game to take in, and by the way, Sean,
- 4:36Speaker 1: here's a tip for you. You're a big-time recruiting guy.
- 4:39Speaker 1: You need to be following the exploits of Nii Moo
- 4:43Speaker 1: of Benson High. The Benson Bunny ran for 203 yards
- 4:48Speaker 1: against Buena Vista last week. They're hosting Bellevue East tonight,
- 4:51Speaker 1: but you keep track of Nii Moo. This could be
- 4:53Speaker 1: another Amon Green or Calvin Jones. His aunt's kind of
- 4:58Speaker 1: a big gal. Her name is Moo Moo.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Moo Moo, yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 1: We're having fun with that. All right, Sean. Tonight at
- 5:03Speaker 1: 6 o'clock, we'll be listening for Sean and his cadre
- 5:05Speaker 1: of smart guys. They're all out of rehab and ready
- 5:08Speaker 1: to go. It's 6 o'clock tonight on 1110 KFAB.
