Hello Marvel fans, comic geeks and all the nerds in between.
• 0:13
My name is Megan with vigilante vibes and we are going to talk
• 0:15
about a character today that is everywhere 'cause she's shrouded
• 0:21
a mystery because of Daredevil. Born Again Season 2 Episode 4
• 0:24
Gloves off, we're going to talk about Vanessa Fisk.
• 0:27
Who is Vanessa Fisk in the comics and what happens to her?
• 0:31
Vanessa first appeared in Amazing Spider man #70 in
• 0:34
December of 1968, but just as a cameo.
• 0:37
But her first full appearance was an Amazing Spider man #83 in
• 0:40
January of 1970. Vanessa first met Fisk when she
• 0:45
was just 15. She'd been brought to him by his
• 0:48
crew of thieves to be sold as a slave on the black market.
• 0:51
Even though she was scared, lost, and suffering from
• 0:54
amnesia, Fisk noticed her natural grace and inner
• 0:57
strength, qualities he'd always wanted in a partner.
• 1:00
They quickly formed a bond and before long they were married
• 1:03
and genuinely in love. Now this is obviously very
• 1:06
different from the show when she was much older than 15 and
• 1:10
worked at an Art Museum. It's not said how old Kingpin
• 1:14
was when they met, that I'm aware of.
• 1:16
I could be wrong, but I doubt he was 15 as well, so take that for
• 1:22
what it is. Vanessa loved Kingpin very
• 1:25
deeply, even if she didn't always agree with his criminal
• 1:28
lifestyle. They did have a son together
• 1:30
named Richard. While she was pregnant, she once
• 1:33
held a sewing needle to her belly, terrified of bringing a
• 1:36
child into such a violent world. When Richard got older, they
• 1:40
sent him off to Switzerland for his education.
• 1:44
Eventually, Richard came back and tried to take over his
• 1:46
father's empire under the name The Schemer, confronting both of
• 1:50
his parents. But the story is not about
• 1:52
Richard. Fisk was very possessive of
• 1:55
Vanessa. At one point she was lost in the
• 1:58
sewers of New York and believed dead.
• 2:01
Daredevil ended up rescuing her from the sewer ruler known as
• 2:04
the King and brought her back to Fisk, but only after Fisk agreed
• 2:08
to pull his corrupt mayoral candidate Randolph Cherry from
• 2:12
the race. Later, when Vanessa fell into a
• 2:15
near coma and even the best doctors could not help her, the
• 2:19
Fisk took extreme measures. He kidnapped the blind wife of a
• 2:22
famous French psychologist, forcing the man to cure Vanessa
• 2:26
by making him feel the same desperation and fear.
• 2:30
To keep things secret, Fisk used a small time crook named Turk as
• 2:34
a middleman, but Turk's sudden wealth drew Daredevil's
• 2:38
attention and the kidnapped woman was rescued.
• 2:41
You probably recognize the name Turk from the Luke Cage series,
• 2:46
so there's that. Hey, look at that.
• 2:49
When Vanessa finally recovered, though, it was absolutely not
• 2:53
the recovery Fisk was expecting. She was terrified of Fisk and
• 2:58
desperately wanted to escape. Daredevil fought his way up to
• 3:01
Fisk's penthouse, only to learn that Fisk, out of love, had
• 3:06
already let Vanessa go to France with the Doctor.
• 3:10
Because of situations like this, Fisk later started hiring
• 3:14
actresses to impersonate Vanessa to protect her from kidnapping
• 3:18
and extortion. One of them, Heidi DeVito, was
• 3:22
  eventually kidnapped and actually killed.
• 3:24
So that's unfortunate, but that could have been Vanessa.
• 3:27
So at one point, Vanessa and Wilson separated.
• 3:32
She returned to New York after learning their son had tried to
• 3:34
kill his father with the help of Sammy Silk.
• 3:37
Furious, Vanessa took matters into her own hands and started
• 3:41
cleaning up the villainous underworld, starting by killing
• 3:43
a small time criminal named Falzone.
• 3:46
She then confronted Richard and after a very tense exchange, she
• 3:50
killed him too, Richard being her son.
• 3:54
After that, she took Wilson away to recover, knowing he would
• 3:57
never forgive her for killing their son.
• 3:59
She left before he woke up to avoid his anger.
• 4:03
Later, Vanessa developed a terminal illness and decided to
• 4:06
settle all of her unfinished debts in businesses from behind
• 4:10
the scenes. She orchestrated a complex plan
• 4:12
that included getting both Murdoch and Fist arrested by the
• 4:17
FBI, faking Foggy Nelson's death, hiring Iron Fist to
• 4:22
impersonate Daredevil, and using Tombstone and Liliuca to send
• 4:28
Murdoch on a chase across Europe.
• 4:31
She did all of this out of revenge, blaming both Daredevil
• 4:34
and Wilson for how her life turned out.
• 4:36
Like she wasn't the one that killed her own son.
• 4:39
It's fine. Before she died, she briefly
• 4:42
  confronted Daredevil and revealed everything.
• 4:45
After her death, Murdoch honored her final wish by clearing the
• 4:49
charges against Fisk on the condition that Fisk give up his
• 4:52
US citizenship. Years later, the Hand found her
• 4:56
body and brought Vanessa back to life to test Fisk to see if he
• 5:00
was worthy of the Hand sending her to kill him.
• 5:04
They fought, but Fisk didn't want to hurt her.
• 5:07
He attempted reasoning with her and tried to reach whatever
• 5:11
remained of her old self. When it seemed hopeless, he took
• 5:15
her out by breaking her back, only to realize too late that
• 5:19
she had actually been trying to save him from an attacker from
• 5:22
behind. She died for a second time in
• 5:25
his arms, leaving Fisk devastated and pushing him even
• 5:29
further into crime. Later still the Jackal brought
• 5:33
Vanessa back as a clone to try to manipulate Fisk and do
• 5:36
funding New You technologies, but Fisk rejected her
• 5:40
completely, snapping her neck and calling her nothing more
• 5:44
than a corrupt imitation, saying the Jackal had ruined his last
• 5:48
real memories of her. So that's Vanessa's story in
• 5:52
Marvel Comics. It's interesting because I think
• 5:55
her influence over Fisk and his love for her is much bigger than
• 5:59
her actual character, which is very different for a comic book
• 6:02
character. You always hear about Fisk and
• 6:05
Vanessa but in all honesty she really wasn't that big of a
• 6:08
character, especially not as big as a character as Daredevil born
• 6:12
Again makes her out to be. But I actually love how they
• 6:16
gave her character so much more depth and so much more story to
• 6:19
work with. So now that you know her
• 6:21
background, what does this mean? Could Bullseye have actually
• 6:25
killed her? Please keep in mind that the
• 6:28
episode dropped yesterday. So if you're watching this after
• 6:33
Daredevil Born Again season 2 episode 5678 and I'm wrong, I
• 6:39
look stupid and I get it. So if he does actually kill her,
• 6:43
which I kind of don't think so, because her talk with the mayor,
• 6:49
a female mayor at the beginning of the episode, that would have
• 6:52
all been for nothing. So I don't think she's actually
• 6:55
dead. But if she is, there's always
• 6:58
the possibility that the hand brings her back.
• 7:01
And that would make sense as to why the hand is still prevalent
• 7:04
and Spider Man brand new day. So that could always be it.
• 7:10
It could also be something wild, like this was a Vanessa
• 7:15
impersonator that Kingpin hired like he does in the comics.
• 7:18
It could be any of those things, but I think it's very cut and
• 7:21
dry that Vanessa Fisk just doesn't just die.
• 7:25
I mean, obviously. So there's a lot of theories
• 7:29
that we could go with here, but I really hope it's the one with
• 7:33
the hand, because I would love that.
• 7:35
But I really do think she's not dead.
• 7:37
But if she does turn out to be actually dead egg on my face, I
• 7:41
guess So, yeah, This was my breakdown of Vanessa Fisk.
• 7:45
I hope you enjoyed it. I hope you learned something,
• 7:47
and I hope you'll like and subscribe so you don't miss
• 7:49
anything else I put out. With that being said, have a
• 7:51
  marvelous day.
