- 0:42SPEAKER_00: Welcome into another episode of the Tailgate Cam Podcast.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Today we have a jam-packed show recapping all of the games from the NFL in week one and going through the biggest games in week two before me and my good friend Dylan Painter tail the tailgate.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: But first, I'm going to start with some soccer scores before he joins us.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: So let's get to it.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Starting in the English Premier League, Arsenal continue their winning streak up to four games to start the season in the EPL with a nice two to nothing victory against Sunderland.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Liverpool, they continue to struggle.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Just one win in their first four games as they played to a scoreless draw against Fulham, Hull City, they remain unbeaten as a newly promoted team in the EPL.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: They have two wins and two draws and jumped out to a nice first half lead against Chelsea before Chelsea got a 66-minute goal from Joao Pedro to end the game in a 2-2 tie.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: And despite playing with 10 men for the majority of the game, Man City got a second half goal from Erling Holland, and they defeated my Manchester United Red Devils, who are now 1-1-2 to start the season following their one-to-nothing loss in the Manchester Derby.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Newcastle, they've also had some bad luck to start the season.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Just five points in four games.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: They got routed by Leeds United 4-1 on Monday.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Um, now going back stateside into the MLS, St.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Louis City, they have extended their unbeaten winning streak or unbeaten streak to 15 games.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: Thanks to another fantastic first half.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Three goals in that first half.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: They take down Minnesota United at home in Energizer Park 4-2.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Now St.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Louis and San Jose are tied for fourth in points in the Western Conference.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Two of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, Miami and Nashville FC, where we actually saw Messi score his MLS leading 19th goal of the year before Nashville ultimately tied the game for a 2-2 draw with a stoppage time goal.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: San Jose, the team that I just mentioned, is tied with St.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Louis City for fourth place in the West, hosted second place Houston, and they played to a one to nothing victory over the Houston Dynamo.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: Third seed in the East, the New England Revolution jumped out to a quick two to nothing road lead in Chicago before ultimately securing a victory two to one on the road in Chicago against the fire.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: And finally, the number one seed in the West, Vancouver, falls to lowly Austin FC thanks to two goals from American Christian Ramirez.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: Um, some other, while we're on the MLS, some other American U.S.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: soccer news, 16-year-old, almost 17-year-old Kevin Sullivan was actually just called up to the U.S.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: men's national team for their upcoming international window.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Uh, he will be the second youngest player to ever be called up and make his debut for the red, white, and blue, next to Freddie Adu, who was just 16 years and I think 240 days old.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: So now Kevin Sullivan will be the second youngest U.S.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: men's national team player to make their debut.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: Really, really impressive stuff from the Philadelphia Union forward there.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: Um, some other scores from around the soccer world, two of the best teams in Siri.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Ah, Lazio and AC Milan met, where Lazio jumped out to a two to nothing first half lead before another great American, Christian Polisic, dropped a beautiful assist, and AC Milan is able to tie that game two to two and earn a draw.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Cagliari continues to play great football to start the season.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: They get a nice two to one win on the road at Atalanta.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Roma, they've won all four of their games to start the season.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Thanks to a two to nothing victory on Monday against Torino.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Barcelona, the theme, they have won all five of their games to start the season, and they got two more incredible goals.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Thanks to uh the World Cup star Lamin Yamal.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: Just because the World Cup's not happening, doesn't mean these superstars aren't finding the back of the net.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Lamin Yamal gets two more and they route Levante four to two.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: But Mbappe, he wouldn't let Yamal have all the fun.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: He also scored two goals for Real Madrid and a four-to-one victory over Real Valacano.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: And then over in Germany, Dortmund and Freiburg both continue their winning streaks as they are both 3-0-0 to start the season.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: And then lastly, we're talking about World Cup stars.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Gotta mention Harry Kane scored a 72nd-minute goal against Elversburg to help Bayern get a 2-1 victory in the Bundesliga.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Coming up next, we will have our guest, Dylan Painter, join us and we will get into all of the results from week one and then dive into week two before we tail the tailgate.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Stick around.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: That's my good friend Dylan Painter.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: Dylan, what's up, brother?
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: What's going on, Cam?
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: How you doing?
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Oh, not too bad.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm getting ready actually to come to Missouri and uh be back, be back in the Show Me State with you.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: We're so close, man.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: I can't wait to see us.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: Dude, it's gonna be a good time hanging out, being at your house all weekend.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: So, but before we do that, priorities are priorities.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: We got to talk some ball.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: So, first things first, we're gonna go through some of the biggest games of week one.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, some some questions that we have about the teams that we saw from those results, and then we will get to the biggest games in week two before we get to our tail the tailgate segment.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: So let's get started.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: The biggest game uh was the game in Australia, I would say, um, between the Rams and the San Francisco 49ers that saw the 49ers absolutely put the clamps on the Rams offense.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: The Rams were held to just two of nine on third down and one of three on fourth down.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: Uh Brock Purdy was very effective in this game.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: 205 yards, three touchdowns.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Uh, meanwhile, the 49ers were also averaging 5.8 yards per carry.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: So let's start in Australia down under a little uh down under football.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: What was your biggest takeaway from this game?
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Were you more impressed with the 49ers on defense, or were you more concerned with the Rams offense in this game?
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean, the 49ers played really, really well uh on defense.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: And I also thought Shanahan did a very good job calling uh that game.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: He had like a really good game plan, uh, I felt like coming in.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Um obviously there was a ton of talks about you know the way the Rams went over to Australia, um, you know, if if they were gonna be lethargic and stuff in the flight, but overall, I mean, I think the 49ers defense played extremely well.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: Um, so I I would say I I I'm not concerned about the Rams, they're gonna be fine.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: Um but you know, it's it's week one.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: And then I also found um Shanahan's six and two against McVay in prime time games.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: So usually this is kind of how it goes when they meet in prime time.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: So but I'm I'm not super concerned about the Rams, but but that 49ers defense is is much improved, and they're gonna they're gonna be good.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I felt like especially like on the critical downs, kind of like I said, like on third downs, like the Rams were actually moving the ball when I went back and looked at the stats for this game.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: The yardage difference wasn't that extreme.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: I think the 49ers only had about 60 or 70 more yards than the Rams in the entire game, but the difference was the Rams kept getting taken off the field by the 49ers.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: The the other thing that I want to touch on before we move on to the next game, um, some news came out on Sunday morning that Miles Garrett, once they got back to the United States off that long flight, they did a scan on his knee and he had to have uh a small surgery.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: It doesn't seem like the Rams are that uh concerned about it, I would say right now.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: But to me, it always sparks a red flag when out of nowhere, without being on an injury report, without news coming out ahead of time that a guy just suddenly has to have surgery.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Does that something, nothing, maybe a little something in between?
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: Does that strike your radar the same way it strikes mine?
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: I I think I think it's definitely a red flag, especially since I don't think he looked real great out there on the field.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Like something something seemed up.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: It was like he didn't it didn't seem like he was making that Miles Garrett like impact.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which you know, I thought maybe okay, maybe it's just week one, they're just still trying to figure out how to utilize him in that system.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: But you know, and then that report comes out, it's like, okay, well, that kind of makes sense, you know.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: Maybe he he was injured coming into that game, right?
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: Well, obviously, we'll have to wait and see how long he actually is out for, but still, like like I said, the the random, like tucked in during the middle of the Sunday morning news injury alert never is a good thing because that seems like when teams try to get that news out there and bury it amongst the games that are about to take place, which they did.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: You know, by the time Sunday night came around, nobody was really talking about that, but just something to monitor, something to keep an eye on as we move forward.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: Um, now we have to get to your boys, the Patriots, who went out to Seattle.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: Um Sam Darnold left this game early in the fourth quarter with a pretty weird hip injury that he suffered on a uh on a sack.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: Uh, in came Mizzou Tiger, Drew Locke, who really proved his worth as a backup.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: Uh, he was very efficient, but the star of the night was really JSN.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: He was able to cap a pretty strong performance on on Wednesday night with a 45-yard touchdown on a fourth down conversion.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: Um, before we even get into any of the specifics, what was your ultimate impression of the Seahawks?
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: And then what was your ultimate impression of the Patriots in week one?
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Um still insanely impressed with that Seahawks defense.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Uh I mean, they're just they're so good.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're just you can't pass it deep on this team.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: That secondary is insanely great, even their backups, because they had some injuries in that secondary.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it didn't feel like it didn't feel like they dropped off at all.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: Like they played so well.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: Um I felt like Drake in the first half, and for maybe two and a half quarters of that game, he was just kind of taking what was given to him.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: He wasn't really forcing it downfield.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, they weren't re they weren't able to run the ball super well, but you know, I didn't think he was he was pressing the issue, he was just taking what was what was given to him.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Um and then they had that lead, and then I think he said it best.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: I think Drake got impatient there in that fourth quarter.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: You know, they lost AJ, so I think he was trying to, you know, make some stuff happen um instead of instead of just keep doing what he was doing.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: Because like I said, they had that lead and um just some some very costly uh interceptions uh in that game that unfortunately uh unfortunately lost in the game.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, I mean I I thought I thought that that defense for for Seattle is still a championship um defense.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: That is what's gonna uh be driving uh that team.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: Uh they're gonna be okay even if Darnold's out a couple weeks.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: I think I think you're locked, like you said, serviceable as a backup, especially with that defense.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I I totally agree.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: Uh you mentioned one of the big stories that came out of this game, is which was AJ Brown, who left the game, I believe, in the second quarter, maybe it was in the third quarter, um, and did not return.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: And it turned out that he injured his ankle and it's was put on short-term IR.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Um, two questions.
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: One, are you concerned about the Patriots offense without him, given that, you know, assuming that they geared most of their offense around this new guy that they brought in, are you concerned about the offense without him in the short term?
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: And then second question: what wide receiver do you feel most confident in to kind of fill that void?
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: Is it Kyle Williams?
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: Is it Matt Collins?
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Um, is it our guy Romeo Dobbs?
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, the offense, when you lose a guy like AJ, it's gonna be hard to replace what he can do.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: Just there's no one, there's no one in that wide receiver room that has the capabilities of what AJ Brown can do on the field.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: And the offense looked better when he was on the field, obviously.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: Like they they were getting some first downs, they were moving the ball.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: Um, he had a couple first down conversions, and I think that's that's what you're gonna miss as a guy you can just go to to fill the void.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: Um, I I believe they they think Matt Collins is probably gonna have to fill that role.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Um that's that's a guy that I think either Josh McDaniels or or Vrabel or that organization just really trusts and and loves.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: And it's probably the wide receiver that Drake has the most comfortability with now, at least knowing the ball deep.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: You know, he lost Booty.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Um, that was the other guy that was kind of his safety blanket.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: So I think Matt Collins is someone that's that's gonna have to step up and they're gonna have to get creative in the running game uh to be and they're gonna they're gonna have to run this football.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: Like they they cannot, you know, just be so ineffective running the ball as as they were in Seattle.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: They they have to be able to get a run day, a run game going.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: Well, the good news is they're not always gonna be on the road in Seattle playing the Seahawks defense.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, I I do tend to agree with you.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: I I think that Mack Hollins, while he may not have like the name worth of like a Romeo Dobbs or even maybe like the draft pedigree of a of a Kyle Williams, I feel like his connection with with Drake is strong enough.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: We even saw it in the Super Bowl where he had some big catches for you guys.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: Um but ultimately I'm also like not like off of Romeo Dobbs just yet.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Like, I think Romeo Dobbs is gonna be fine.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: They're they're they're gonna feature him.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't be surprised if they come out and at uh against Pittsburgh and they make it like a focus to get him the ball because they didn't to start that game in Seattle.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: You know, they can he was he was not on the he was not on the field, he wasn't getting targets.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Um, and then he had that, I think he had that one really bad drop.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: Um, that probably could have changed the game there in Seattle.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Um, and that's what everyone is hyper focusing on.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: But I don't think that's gonna be Romeo Dobbs moving forward.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: I think I think we're gonna see a better version of Romeo Dobbs.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, totally agree.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: And while we put this game to bed, I'll go ahead and I I know we've talked about this, but the Monday morning quarterbacking, yeah, it was it was a rough fourth quarter for for our guy Drake May, but it it was one game, it was really just one quarter, really, where it it looked bad.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: So it's not time to to sail the ship on that guy who was MVP candidate last year.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: And and that Seattle defense has made a lot of really good quarterbacks struggle, like right.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: They just have his number right now.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: Now, a team in the Patriots division, maybe the best game of all the first weekend was the Bills traveling to NRG Stadium in Houston, where Josh Allen was simply incredible.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: He finally got his first win in Houston where he was 0-3 in the regular season and 0-1 in the playoffs in his career.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: Um, could be one of those like strange outlier games from week one where you do see a lot of like weird results, but the Texans gave up a lot of yards, 409 of them to the Bills and 36 points.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: And really, in that fourth quarter, when that defense should be at its strongest with its pass rush, they they were getting gash.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: Like Josh was getting outside of the pocket, making plays down the field.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: Um, any concern long term about the Texans defense, or you are you kind of in the thought that you know it's week one, weird things happen, and they were playing a really good team.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, I I don't I don't think there's anything to worry uh about that defense.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: They've given us enough uh tape to show that they're a good defense.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: I think it's a it's a week one um kind of outlier.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: Um you never know what you're gonna get on week one.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: You know, you're either gonna get these teams offensively that just haven't started clicking yet, or you're gonna have you know some defenses that are just a little bit behind.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I I I don't I don't see any any any real worry uh for that defense.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: One of my other big takeaways, I mean, we all know that Josh Allen is incredible.
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: One of my biggest takeaways for me that I saw out of this game was David Montgomery.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: I thought this could be closer to a 50-50 backfield with Woody Marks in his second year, but he had three touchdowns.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: They featured him as a as a pass catcher out of the backfield, constantly went to him when they got down and near the red zone.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: And it seems like that could be his backfield to really own and take the bulk of.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Um, anything else here that you think is notable that you noticed in this game or a big takeaway you you took from this game between two AFC contenders?
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think it's definitely David's backfield.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, he had 20 20 carries.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, I feel like he's he's definitely gonna be leading that backfield.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: Um I I'm still like a believer that that the Texans are gonna be like in the playoffs uh again this year.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Um I think they're gonna need a little bit uh more consistency out of CJ Stroud.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: Um, but really I think this entire game to me was kind of more about um the Bills, the Bills offense and Josh Allen.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: I think they just they played a really good game.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it definitely felt like a little bit about what we talked about when we did the AFC East podcast together, that the Bills were going to emphasize the regular season.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: And this kind of felt like one of those where, you know, whether it's a tiebreaker, you know, for wild card seeding or whatever, whatever the case may be, a game that they felt like they needed to win, and it appeared that way on Sunday.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: So um, great game, great finish there for the Bills.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: Um, not so great game for the Denver Broncos, who were the one seed in the AFC last year, and they got smashed by the Chiefs on Monday night football.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: Uh Kenneth Walker, the third, had a monster night for the Chiefs.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: Um, immediately made that free agency contract worth it.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: He had 191 total yards and two touchdowns.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: Uh, but to me, the biggest takeaway from this game, yeah, like a lot of the talk is about how bad Bo Knicks looked.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: I thought both quarterbacks kind of looked bad.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: Mahomes did not complete a pass that went more than 10 yards in the air all night.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: Um I just thought both of them looked like guys that were hurt last year.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: What was your impression of the Chiefs?
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: And then we can get to the Broncos side here in a second.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're they're obviously gonna need more out of that passing game.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Like, there's no way that Kenneth Walker is gonna be able to, you know, hold the amount of attack rushes, and they're just not gonna be able to put everything on him every single game.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: Like, like this game is an outlier.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: He had 191 total yards, like that's not sustainable.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Um, he's gonna be really good for them.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, I mean, Mahomes, you know, looks like he's coming off coming off an injury.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: Um kind of felt like his his footwork was like a little weird.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: He didn't feel like he was really uh you know, planting and throwing the football super well.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: Also, I don't know.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: Also, I don't know if that was just the Broncos defense, you know, playing well in the secondary and he was just kind of having to to check it down and and giving what the game was get or taking what the game was giving him.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: Um because Mahomes is also someone who who who likes to push the ball downfield.
- 21:37SPEAKER_01: Um so I mean I mean I mean we'll see.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: These guys are are fresh off the injuries.
- 21:43SPEAKER_01: Um Nyx looked like he was holding on to the ball just way too long sometimes.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: Way too long, way too long.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Nick's Nick's there were three fumbles that he had in this game.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: He was really reckless with the Ball for like a guy, you you either get two things like when a guy comes back from a severe injury like that, where one result is that they're gonna be very cautious when they come back and avoid mistakes at all cost, or throw caution to the wind and just say, Here we go, let's see what happens.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: And that's what it felt like was going on on Monday.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: They play my Jags on Sunday, so we'll see if that continues.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: But it was it was concerning if you're a Broncos fan to me.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and with Knicks, like they got behind pretty quick.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: And I think one thing that that team overall doesn't want to do is just rely on Bo to throw the ball and try to get the game.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: That that's that's not what they want to do to be successful.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Um, but going back to Mahomes, there was a time in that game where he was two for 14.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: Um, so regardless of like if he was taking you know what the game was giving him, like he he was not playing well early in the game.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: He was he was not seeing the field um uh that well.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, you know, I guess it's you know, time will tell, you know, in a few weeks, you know, what it is with these quarterbacks, you know, where they fresh off injuries is Mahomes and like Rice get that connection better.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: Um you know, just I I think the Chiefs will be improved because they're gonna have a better running game.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: So that should open up the passing game with with Rice, but time will tell.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: Um, another AFC West team that I mean if there's memes that could be made, they get made from those guys.
- 23:29SPEAKER_00: Banned from the parlay list.
- 23:31SPEAKER_00: Banned the the all the survivor picks, everything they can't.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: That's who I that's why that's who I picked in my survivor pool is the chargers.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: Well, that team that we're talking about is of course the chargers, and the chargers pull the chargers, they chargered all week one.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: Um, they were the biggest favorites coming into week one against the Arizona Cardinals.
- 23:54SPEAKER_00: And I'll just ask you, what what happened?
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: Like what what caused this to happen?
- 24:02SPEAKER_01: I I almost is just like not surprised.
- 24:05SPEAKER_01: Like, I I I uh I remember uh Friday when I was leaving work, I was looking at my survivor pool, and I originally had just marked the bears, I was just gonna take the bears, and I changed it at the last second when I was leaving.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: I was like, no, like let's be smart, let's get to just week two.
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: We're gonna take the chargers.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: I was like, it's it's like I they think they should be better.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: Like, like they should they should be better.
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: I I know I love their head coach.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: Um but I don't know.
- 24:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, maybe it's it's it's partly just Justin Herbert just may not be that guy.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: Like at some point it has to fall on the quarterback, you know, you can't just keep having excuses for this guy.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's that's one of the things that I I I've always been lower on Justin Herbert than most people in general, whether it's media or just like people that me and you know, and uh that does not change from this.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: Like I just think he's a guy that can be really, really good at times, and I also think he can lay a lot of eggs.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: Does this like one game drastically change your opinion of him?
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: Or is it just like you said, like kind of yeah, I'm not surprised kind of deal?
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: I'm I mean kind of both.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm just I'm not surprised.
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: This is what the Chargers have have been.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: You just you you never know what you're gonna get from that Chargers team week in and week out.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: Um, and I I think it might be this thing where this is just kind of what Herbert is, you know.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I I was one of the people I was drinking the Kool-Aid this summer.
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: I picked them to win the AFC West.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: I felt like this was finally the year that they could put it all together and roll out and you know have a have a strong, consistent season.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: And sure enough, they couldn't even get through week one before making me look stupid.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: Um, it's also one of those things where you know you like they're a team just based on like history and what they've been the past couple years, like they and similar with the Bengals, they need to come out and like start hot to start the season.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: You know, you can't like keep laying these eggs early in the season and then hoping that it's gonna get better.
- 26:16SPEAKER_01: Like, there are certain teams where you know we know that towards the end of the year they're gonna be good, like the Rams.
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: Like they the Rams laid an egg in Australia, they're gonna be fine.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: Like, I know that they're gonna get that figured out.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: I don't, I don't, I don't feel like that's gonna be the case for the Chargers.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: The the last thing that I want to touch on here before we move to our last big game from week one is just that Trey McBride continues to be, you know, just the golden goose of tight ends.
- 26:45SPEAKER_00: He had 95 yards, nine catches, and a touchdown against the Chargers defense.
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: And a lot of that came against Derwin James, which Derwin James is one of the most athletic safeties in the NFL.
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: And Trey McBride was just dusting that guy.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: Um, it just needs to be mentioned that Trey McBride is one of, if not the best tight end in the NFL.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: It's either him or Brock Bowers to me.
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: So just another master class from Trey McBride.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: Um, anything else on this game before we move on?
- 27:16SPEAKER_01: No, no, I I think that's I think I think that was a good discussion on that one.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: Uh Sunday night football.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: The Cowboys traveled to New York City and took on the Giants where they fell 20 to 28.
- 27:28SPEAKER_00: The theme of the day, who were you more impressed with?
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: Jackson Dart and the Giants offense, or were you more disappointed for the Cowboys and not being more efficient on offense themselves?
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, I was impressed with with Jackson Dart.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: I thought that Giants offense played played really well.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: Um kind of concerned about that cut, that Cowboys defense again, because all offseason you heard how much better they were supposed to be.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: I don't think they given up 28 points in in week one to Jackson Dart.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: I mean, I know you know they have Malik Neighbors back, but man, if I if I was a Cowboys fan, I was really hoping that we would kind of start the the season quick and and and go one and oh and and beat the Giants there, even though you're on the road, it is prime time.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, I I think I think the most worry I have is is for that cowboys defense.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I I was again on the train that the Cowboys were going to win, and they still could, but they were gonna win the NFC East, and their defense was gonna look much better this year.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: I like a lot of the pieces that they have, but yet again, they were not able to get the Giants off the field on third down.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: The Giants were nine of 11 on third down, and even even the Cowboys themselves, they were eight of 11 on third down.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: These were two of the worst three defenses in the entire NFL last year, so a lot of that like still crept up, even with a new head coach on one side and a improved or should be improved defense, I would say, on the other.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: Um, the Cowboys were able to just run the ball for only 69 yards in this game, which I don't care who you're playing, that's just not gonna get it done.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: Um, uh one question that I have how do you feel like with George Pickens' personality, and the reason I say this is because on one of those uh third downs that the Cowboys did not get late in the game when they were trying to drive down the field, Pickens just basically like stopped running.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: And I I just wonder like he only had five targets in the game, and CeeDee Lamb is always going to be their number one.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: Is Pickens capable of being a number two wide receiver, or are you trying to put you know somebody who wants to be uh the the superstar on the back burner, and that just isn't going to work?
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: I I mean, I mean it might be a personality issue, but I mean I don't know who the Cowboys would have who who they would want to feature as like a wide receiver too outside of Pickens.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, I feel like him and Lamb should be a really good one and two duo.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: Um and and they want to throw the Dak threw it 34 times.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: There's enough targets for those for those receivers to go around uh and get theirs.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: Um, so you know it's either like uh a Pickens is you know not in the right position to be getting the ball or Dak doesn't trust him.
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: Um but I think I think there could be I think there could be a personality uh issue there.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: I mean it it seemed that way in um uh Pittsburgh uh with yeah um last question that I have about this game is Cam Scadaboo obviously looked great.
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: He had 85 yards, I believe, uh actually 81 yards and a touchdown.
- 30:46SPEAKER_00: How reliable with his you know physical running style?
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: You don't really see many running backs that are lead backs in the NFL nowadays run with that kind of like I want to create contact.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: Is he a guy that the Giants can actually lean on for 17 games, or is it just he's going to get hurt playing like that?
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: It's just a matter of when.
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: Are are you a scattaboo guy, or are you weary of the way he plays?
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: Um the way he plays it definitely is gonna lead to injuries.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: I think if they can find a way to to either incorporate a little bit more of Devil, uh Devin Singletary or uh Tyrone Tracy into that running game to kind of save him a little bit.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: I think he runs the ball hard.
- 31:28SPEAKER_01: I got I think he he runs the ball well.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: He's a he's he's a good running back, but um just the nature of his game uh is gonna is gonna lead to some injuries, you know.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: Honestly, I mean same kind of goes for for Jackson Dorn.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: Like he had 11 carries for 54 yards week one.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: Yep, that's that's a lot to ask for your for your quarterback who who you need delivering the ball back there in the pocket.
- 31:53SPEAKER_00: So yeah, and he's not really a guy that uh runs out of bounds on his own will.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: He likes to take some contact as as does his running back.
- 32:02SPEAKER_01: So yeah, and also you wanted to bring up Trey McBride, you know.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: Um we also need to talk a little bit about Isaiah Likely, you know, eight receptions, 78 yards, two touchdowns.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: Like, is this is this another guy who can be a reliable tight end one?
- 32:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, he looked like it, he looked, he looked apart.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's definitely encouraging that his old head coach, that was the first call he made when free agency opened up, was to get his old tight end back.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: And it looks like it.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: It looks like a guy that was comfortable in this offensive system, um, was comfortable with this new quarterback that he has.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: And in that fourth quarter, he was that the pure difference between them winning that game or the Cowboys having a greater chance of coming back.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: He caught multiple catches on third downs, obviously the two touchdowns in the red zone.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: He was phenomenal.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: So he was always a guy that was kind of tucked behind Mark Andrews.
- 32:57SPEAKER_00: So it's nice to see that he finally got his opportunity to be the guy, and it and it worked out.
- 33:04SPEAKER_00: Um, anything else from week one?
- 33:06SPEAKER_00: Any games or per performances that you felt like stood out that we did not talk about?
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: No, I thought I think we hit some really good games, sir.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: Well, let's move on to week two, where we will really start to figure out who some of these teams are.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: So, first game, Thursday night football, it's a banger.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: The Lions traveled to the new high mark stadium in Buffalo.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: Uh, the Bills open this game as four and a half point favorites.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 54 and a half.
- 33:35SPEAKER_00: So, whose offense do you feel like you trust more in on a Thursday night game?
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: The Bills at home or the Lions with Jameer Gibbs, Amon Ross, Sam Laporta.
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: Who do you feel more confident in in a Thursday night game?
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: I I I gotta I gotta give it to Josh Allen um and that offense.
- 33:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously that that lions offense has has a ton of playmakers, but um I I'm I'm I'm more excited for this Bills offense uh after week one.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: Um I was kind of scared there for uh a minute, not seeing DJ Moore get uh that many targets, but I I I think uh I think that that that Bill's offense, I have more trust, especially early on in the season with Josh Allen, especially how he played uh last week.
- 34:23SPEAKER_00: This game also features two of the best running backs in the entire NFL.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: The Lions, Jameer Gibbs, the Bills, James Cook.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: Which running back for one game in DFS would you rather have if it's standalone DFS Thursday night or a week-long DFS?
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: Uh, who would you rather start?
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: Jameer Gibbs against the Bills or James Cook against the Lions?
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: Gibbs.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: Uh, just just for what he can do running the ball and and and and and catching uh the football.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I I think like their commitment to him, like his usage, you'll see you see it a lot, like where the bills will move the ball, they'll run the ball, and then at the goal line, it's just Josh Allen running for running for the end zone, and they forget that they have James Cook.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: So um last thing here, uh, do you think there's any chance Dalton Kitcaid could lead the Bills in yards this year?
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: I think that would be a bad look for DJ Moore for DJ Moore.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, it could it could happen.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: I don't think that's what you want.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: I think you would hope that DJ Moore is your guy who's gonna lead you uh in yards.
- 35:34SPEAKER_00: But I mean, maybe I mean it could it could happen for sure.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: He looked good in week one and and Josh, when he scrambles, it seems like those two guys without um without the chemistry that DJ Moore has been able to develop, you know, they're still new.
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: Um, when they do that scramble drill, that he's able to find Kincaid pretty easily.
- 35:56SPEAKER_00: Um, it's just something that something that popped into my head when we were doing the notes for this.
- 36:01SPEAKER_00: That you know, he led the led the team in yards in week one and had some big plays for them.
- 36:06SPEAKER_00: So I was just curious if you thought that there was a chance there.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: So now it's time to pick a winner for this game, as we will do with all the games for week two.
- 36:13SPEAKER_00: I have the Bills winning this game.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: Who do you have?
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: Uh the the Bills.
- 36:19SPEAKER_01: I I would I would like to see them drop one go to one and one here, uh, just for division's sake, but I think they take care of business.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: Uh another good game that we have is the Bengals traveling at off their win over the Bucks in week one at home.
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: They travel to Houston in NRG Stadium, and the Texans open this game as three-point favorites.
- 36:43SPEAKER_00: The total is set at 46 and a half.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: Do you think this is an opportunity for the Texans to bounce back, or do you think we will see more continued early season success from the Cincinnati Bengals?
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: I I'm I'm gonna roll with the Texans here just because it's at home.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: I think if this was in Cincinnati, I might feel a little bit uh different, but I think this could be a little bit of a bounce back game.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: Texans get one here uh at home.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think I think there is bounce back on some of both of these sides.
- 37:14SPEAKER_00: The Bengals force four turnovers in week one against the Bucs.
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: It's unlikely.
- 37:19SPEAKER_00: I mean, I guess I shouldn't say unlikely.
- 37:22SPEAKER_00: See we've seen CJ Stroud implode before, but uh, I think it's unlikely that they're forced four turnovers for the Texans, and I also think it's unlikely that the Texans defense allows 409 more yards, but it is certainly a tough test for them, but two good offenses in a row.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: Uh, but there was some news that came out today that Joe Burrow has been dealing with some extended soreness that he called it.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: Does that concern you at all?
- 37:52SPEAKER_01: I I haven't heard or looked too much into that.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: Um, don't love that uh that's something he's talking to the media about.
- 38:00SPEAKER_01: So I mean, clearly, I guess it is bothering him.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: So it's got to be a little bit of a concern, right?
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:06SPEAKER_00: I think the fact that he would off, like you said, offer that up in week one or off of week one, heading into week two is concerning.
- 38:15SPEAKER_00: Um, maybe it could just be like some gamesmanship where he's like trying to make the Texans think that he's hurt, but that's not usually how he talks.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: So just something to keep an eye on there.
- 38:25SPEAKER_00: A guy that's dealt with injuries throughout his whole career.
- 38:28SPEAKER_00: Um, but I am also, as you said, on the Texans as well.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: So so far we are lined up with our first two picks.
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: So we will move to the NFC North.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: Um, two teams that won in week one: the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears, where the Bears open as four and a half point favorites at home in soldier field.
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: The total is set at 48.5.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: Likely to still see Carson Wentz, who uh may had some nice moments in that game in week one.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: It was really more of the Packers not being effective on offense.
- 39:00SPEAKER_00: Um, Kyler still in the concussion protocol.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: One note that I thought was kind of interesting if Justin Jefferson gets one catch in this game, he passes Randy Moss and moves into second place all time on the Vikings receptions list behind Chris Carter.
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: But the crazy stat about this is that wasn't the crazy stat.
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: So he'll move into second place when he gets one catch, but he's still 600 catches behind Chris Carter for his career.
- 39:29SPEAKER_00: So uh still some work to do to be the all-time franchise leader.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, just catches on catches on catches, and that guy played with Randy Moss for like six years.
- 39:40SPEAKER_00: So um the weather could be pretty bad for this game.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: Um, they're expecting like a 40% chance of thunderstorms, some real heavy winds in Chicago.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: Um, I'll also of note, Jordan Mason got put on the injured reserve list.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: So a lot of Aaron Jones um it featured in this game.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: So I'm on the Bears.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: Where are you going?
- 40:02SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna I'm gonna roll with the Bears here, too.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: I think that offense was was rolling.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: They'll still find a way to get it going.
- 40:08SPEAKER_01: And I I just like their playmakers more.
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: And um, I thought Caleb Caleb looked really, really good week one.
- 40:16SPEAKER_00: Now to Baltimore, where the Ravens open as eight and a half point favorites over the New Orleans Saints.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: The total is set at 46 and a half.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: Both of these offenses looked really good for large stretches of their games in week one.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: Honestly, I came away, I was high on the Saints coming into the season.
- 40:35SPEAKER_00: I knew they had a hard start to their schedule, um, but I was really impressed that they were able to put together a strong comeback that they did in force overtime on the road against a good Lions team.
- 40:46SPEAKER_00: Um, but they did really struggle to run the ball in the first game with Travis A.
- 40:51SPEAKER_00: Chan, as he would like to be called now.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: Um, they only had 3.6 yards per carry.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: What are your thoughts on the Saints traveling to Baltimore?
- 41:01SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think this game uh again will be closer than what people expect.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: I do think Baltimore will win the game, um, but I think this could be uh another uh close game uh that kind of shocks people.
- 41:13SPEAKER_01: I think kind of makes people um, you know, see the Saints as more of like a threat, uh, especially in that division and in the NFC.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 41:25SPEAKER_00: Um a team that you care deeply about, the New England Patriots, they get to open up their home slate this week in week two as five and a half point favorites against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: The total is set for this game at 41 and a half points.
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: I'll just go ahead and tell you what that screams out loud to me.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: The Patriots are going to cover, and that under is going to hit.
- 41:51SPEAKER_00: I say this all the time.
- 41:52SPEAKER_00: If you have a total under 42 and a team is favored by over four, likely case that both of those things happen.
- 42:00SPEAKER_00: Um, the Steelers were gifted a tremendous matchup in week one against Cooper Rush and Kevin Stefansky, and they were able to beat the Falcons at home.
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: The Patriots will be playing, as we said, without AJ Brown for the first time this season.
- 42:13SPEAKER_00: Um, the biggest keys for an improved Patriots offensive game to you are what?
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: Um we need to get Romeo Dobbs involved, get get get that confidence back, and they need to be able to effectively run the ball.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: And then again, just Drake not making those uh errant turnovers, um, and and and just getting back to to what they do well.
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: I think um I think Drake Nitty needs to utilize his legs a little bit more, especially with AJ out.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: Um, I think he can be a little bit more of a threat there, but I think they have a bounce back game.
- 42:52SPEAKER_01: Um, I think they cover here in this game, and I I I think I think we're gonna see a different Patriots team on Sunday.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: Um, hopefully uh a much more closer look to what they can be here throughout the season uh in week two.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: I am also on the Patriots as well, if that was not obvious from my breakdown as we introdu the game.
- 43:15SPEAKER_00: Um, but I am on the Patriots to win this game.
- 43:18SPEAKER_00: I do have one last question about the Steelers, though.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: Do you feel like the Steelers will have to rely on their defense to win any game that they're winning this year?
- 43:27SPEAKER_00: Or do you think that there is, you know, room for growth on this offense with an aging Aaron Rodgers, Michael Pittman Jr., and DK Metcalf?
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: Or, like I said, do you think this is a team that is stuck in the mud with you know 20 points and hope they hold the other team under that?
- 43:46SPEAKER_00: That that's exactly what this team is.
- 43:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, if that Sealers defense has a bad week, they're they're probably gonna get beat and and and probably pretty bad.
- 43:55SPEAKER_01: I I don't I I can't see that offense scoring much more than 20 points.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: A game like that Steelers defense is going to be the driving force.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: And if they have a bad week, that team is going to have a bad week.
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: Totally agree.
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: My Jaguars travel out to Denver at Mile High Stadium.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: We talked plenty about Bo Knicks with his really difficult game on Monday, his three fumbles and his interception.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: This is a strong rematch of the one seed and the three seed from last year in the AFC.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: The Broncos really got exploited by the Chiefs' zone running scheme, which the Jags also run a zone running scheme.
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: The Jags looked very good in week one, but they were playing a lifeless Browns team, and it was 108,000 degrees outside.
- 44:45SPEAKER_00: I am on the Broncos here, actually.
- 44:48SPEAKER_00: I just think that there has to be some regression from this team that I'm I don't think that they're going to make the playoffs, but they're not going to go 0-17.
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: You know, they're going to be competent and win games.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: They have a good head coach.
- 45:00SPEAKER_00: And I also think that they want some revenge against us for beating them pretty bad in Denver last year.
- 45:06SPEAKER_00: Um, how do you see this AFC contender matchup playing out?
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: Uh I am on the opposite side.
- 45:14SPEAKER_01: We are going to uh I'm gonna go with the Jags, man.
- 45:19SPEAKER_01: I I I liked what I saw from Trevor in week one.
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: I think that that passing game looked super smooth.
- 45:27SPEAKER_01: Um and yeah, I think I think the Jags go up uh there to Denver, handle business.
- 45:35SPEAKER_01: Um and I think I think we're gonna see a much improved Jags team.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: They're gonna start strong this season, and uh the Broncos, they they have a first place schedule, and this is kind of what you you get when you when you play that schedule because their games after this don't get any easier.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: We'll I'll bring this game up again when we get the tail of the tailgate, but there's a lot of what you said that I do agree with, but again, we'll revisit that here shortly.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: Um, another game that I think is pretty noteworthy, both of these teams lost in week one.
- 46:08SPEAKER_00: Um, it's an NFC East matchup between the Washington Commanders and the Dallas Cowboys.
- 46:14SPEAKER_00: The Cowboys start their season.
- 46:16SPEAKER_00: If they weren't already known as America's team, they get to play on America's game two weeks in a row on Sunday night football to open the season.
- 46:24SPEAKER_00: Um, they get to rematch against their old defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn.
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: Which offense do you have more confidence in picking up the pace here in week two?
- 46:34SPEAKER_01: Uh I I like I like the Cowboys here.
- 46:36SPEAKER_01: And especially since it's in Dallas, I think they uh they get a bounce back game here.
- 46:41SPEAKER_01: Uh and I I roll with Dallas here.
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: Um I'm also picking the Cowboys here.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: I just think that they have too much offensive firepower.
- 46:50SPEAKER_00: I also think when Dak plays at home, he plays very, very well and pretty mistake-free.
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: Um, my only other question about this is obviously a lot of attention on the commanders' offense goes to Scary Terry McLaurin.
- 47:05SPEAKER_00: They brought in Stephon Diggs, who actually had a pretty strong game in week one, a guy that you were familiar with last year.
- 47:11SPEAKER_00: Is he a trustworthy fantasy asset, or is it Scary Terry and that's it besides Jaden Daniels on that offense?
- 47:20SPEAKER_01: No, I I like Diggs and fantasy, especially I think Diggs is just a very quarterback-friendly wide receiver that he knows like where to be, how to get open.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: Um, and and that he is a guy who, when he got to uh the Bills with Josh Allen, immediately made that offense better, made Josh Allen better as a quarterback, and he did the same thing in New England coming off as ACL chair.
- 47:44SPEAKER_01: I think he's just that wide receiver.
- 47:46SPEAKER_01: He just has a ton of gameanship.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: Um, he's been in the league, he's he's he's seen a lot of defenses.
- 47:53SPEAKER_01: Um, so I I like Diggs in this offense, and I think he is is viable uh in fantasy.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: The last game that we are going to go in depth on is Monday night football.
- 48:04SPEAKER_00: The Rams return home from Australia after taking that loss to the San Francisco 49ers, and they will be hosting the New York Giants, who we also just finished talking about from their week one win, playing without Miles Garrett, but there are some reports that Aaron Donald could be activated and ready to go on the active lineup for this game on Monday night.
- 48:25SPEAKER_00: Um, can the Giants continue their positive offensive momentum against a better defense in the Rams in week two?
- 48:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean, absolutely, especially if if Miles Garrett is out.
- 48:38SPEAKER_01: I think maybe that passing game will struggle a little bit more because I do think the Rams secondary um is is better than Dallas.
- 48:47SPEAKER_01: Um, but I yeah, I think this is another game where the Giants can showcase uh that they are they're much improved, but the Rams, the Rams will will take care of business here.
- 48:57SPEAKER_00: I am also on the Rams to win this game, but I do like the Giants to cover.
- 49:04SPEAKER_00: I think I I forgot to mention on this that the Rams are favored by seven points.
- 49:08SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 47 and a half.
- 49:10SPEAKER_00: I think this is gonna be much closer than a touchdown.
- 49:13SPEAKER_00: Um, I think there will be, we might not have seen real jet lag last week on Thursday night.
- 49:19SPEAKER_00: I think this is where we could see some effects of all of that travel, all that time spent on the plane, and then still having to play on a Monday night game, like weird body clock, I feel like.
- 49:31SPEAKER_00: I could just see them kind of starting slow again before ultimately like picking it up later on in the game.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: Um, but now that we've gone through some of the bigger games, we will rapid fire the rest of the games in week one.
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: So starting with the Browns, who just lost to my Jags in week one, and the Bucs, who, as I just mentioned, lost to the Bengals on the road in week one.
- 49:54SPEAKER_00: They now host the Browns and they are eight and a half point favorites.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: I am on the Bucks.
- 49:59SPEAKER_00: Who do you got?
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: I also have the Bucs.
- 50:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, we're not picking Deshaun Watson.
- 50:04SPEAKER_00: What a shame.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: Uh the Eagles also travel on the road for the first time this year.
- 50:10SPEAKER_00: Well, they will now take on Cam Ward and a I mean, if you could find a dead body that resembles an NFL team, it's the Tennessee Titans right now.
- 50:21SPEAKER_00: They got smacked by the Jets last week.
- 50:25SPEAKER_00: That was 20 to 3 for the majority of the game.
- 50:28SPEAKER_00: And the and Cam Ward looked lifeless.
- 50:32SPEAKER_00: Like, this isn't even about me being a hater.
- 50:35SPEAKER_00: I just think that that team stinks.
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: I think Salah stinks.
- 50:39SPEAKER_00: I think he's a mega retread higher.
- 50:42SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm not an Eagles guy this year, but I am all over the Eagles on this game on the road.
- 50:48SPEAKER_00: They are seven-point favorites.
- 50:50SPEAKER_00: Who do you have?
- 50:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, I I also have the Eagles.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: I I don't know who the Titans backup is off the top of my head, but I think at some point this year where I think we might see Cam Ward get benched.
- 51:02SPEAKER_00: There's just there's just nothing like to hang your hat on.
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: Like you can it we were having this conversation in our group chat today, like how how teams give up too early or fans give up too early on young quarterbacks, but most of the time when that's going on, like there are certain things that you can pull out and say, well, if he gets better at this and he does this thing that he does well, he could be really good.
- 51:27SPEAKER_00: I legitimately have watched every one of Cam Ward's games in the NFL.
- 51:32SPEAKER_00: I couldn't tell you what he does well.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: I really don't know what he does well.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: I don't think he does anything well.
- 51:38SPEAKER_00: I think it's all chaos, I think it's all you know, flying by the seat of his pants.
- 51:43SPEAKER_00: It's not a good quarterback.
- 51:46SPEAKER_01: I think I think that draft pick for them was was just out of pure hope that that that this guy who was raw was going to come into the league and figure it out.
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: But I I think Cam Ward is is what he is.
- 51:59SPEAKER_01: Um, nobody searching for probably a new quarterback in the near future.
- 52:04SPEAKER_00: The Chiefs host the Indianapolis Colts.
- 52:07SPEAKER_00: The Chiefs obviously coming off their Monday night football win in week one open as six and a half point favorites against the Colts who got smashed by the Ravens in week one.
- 52:17SPEAKER_00: I just think that this is a tough matchup for the Colts.
- 52:20SPEAKER_00: They have played the Chiefs the last three years and they continue to lose to them.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: I I just think that stylistically, the way that the Chiefs play offense, if Mahomes is being patient, they they will pick this uh Gus Bradley defense apart all day.
- 52:35SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm on the Chiefs here.
- 52:37SPEAKER_00: Do you think that the Colts have a chance to win this game?
- 52:41SPEAKER_01: No, no, I'm I'm high on the Chiefs on on this game.
- 52:44SPEAKER_01: I think they take care of business.
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: I think again, there's gonna be questions like, man, are are are the Chiefs are the Chiefs really back?
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah, I think this game is gonna go kind of the same way that you're thinking as well.
- 52:58SPEAKER_00: The NFC South did not have a team that won a game last week.
- 53:02SPEAKER_00: So somebody has to win a game between the Panthers and the Falcons.
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: I guess they could tie.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: Uh, but the the the Panthers come into this game on the road in Atlanta, favored by two and a half.
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: There, we might get Tua back this week, otherwise, we will still get Cooper Rush.
- 53:18SPEAKER_00: Um, I maybe contrary to what you will say, I think Bijan Robinson has a massive game against the Panthers.
- 53:27SPEAKER_00: That guy plays very well on that turf in the Georgia dome.
- 53:31SPEAKER_00: I'm on the Falcons.
- 53:33SPEAKER_00: Who do you got?
- 53:35SPEAKER_01: I'm rolling with the Panthers.
- 53:37SPEAKER_01: I thought they looked I thought they looked decent on offense last uh last week with that shootout with the uh with the Bears.
- 53:43SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, I think the Panthers go down to Atlanta and take care of business here.
- 53:50SPEAKER_00: Uh the Jets, who, as we just mentioned, won their road game in Tennessee in week one, they are four and a half point home dogs to the Green Bay Packers in week two.
- 54:03SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 54:05SPEAKER_00: Give me Geno Smith.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: They tried to write him off, and he ain't right back.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: Give me Geno Smith, give me the Jets.
- 54:12SPEAKER_00: I think this is a sneaky spot for a team that is a little scrappy.
- 54:16SPEAKER_00: They may not be very talented, they may not win many games after this, but I'm not a Packers fan.
- 54:22SPEAKER_00: I'm not a Jordan Love guy.
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: I kind of like the spot for the Jets.
- 54:27SPEAKER_00: Where are you where are you seeing this game?
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: I I may have a little bias coming out of me, uh, just because I need them to lose, but I I do think the Packers just are a better team and and and they'll they'll figure it out and they'll get one.
- 54:41SPEAKER_01: Um, I wouldn't be surprised if the Jets cover here.
- 54:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: Um another team that we we talked at length about them, the Los Angeles Chargers.
- 54:53SPEAKER_00: Somehow Vegas is giving them six and a half points here at home against the Raiders, who won their opening game.
- 55:01SPEAKER_00: Dare I say, I'm gonna take the Chargers again.
- 55:06SPEAKER_00: Are you me too?
- 55:07SPEAKER_01: Me too.
- 55:07SPEAKER_01: I you know, I may stub my toe here, but yeah, I think the Chargers, the Chargers will win.
- 55:16SPEAKER_01: So they'll get a dumb point.
- 55:19SPEAKER_00: Uh, two more games to get to.
- 55:20SPEAKER_00: The Miami Dolphins travel to San Francisco, where the San Francisco 49ers are 13 and a half point favorites.
- 55:27SPEAKER_00: I just think this is a lot of travel.
- 55:29SPEAKER_00: The Dolphins just played in Vegas.
- 55:31SPEAKER_00: Now they have to go back to San Francisco.
- 55:33SPEAKER_00: I thought the Dolphins actually played okay in week one against Vegas.
- 55:38SPEAKER_00: Uh, I just think that this is a tough matchup.
- 55:41SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of talent difference on these two teams.
- 55:44SPEAKER_00: I'm on the 49ers.
- 55:46SPEAKER_00: Who do you got?
- 55:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this this is this is uh this is a layup, I think.
- 55:50SPEAKER_00: This is the 49ers.
- 55:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 55:53SPEAKER_00: And our last game sticking in the NFC West, the Seattle Seahawks, fresh off their win over the Patriots in week one, travel to the Cardinals, where they are three and a half point road favorites in Arizona.
- 56:07SPEAKER_00: Honestly, the the the trend of a backup quarterback that comes in and wins a game.
- 56:15SPEAKER_00: Typically, what happens is that next game that they start, if they start another game, does not go that well.
- 56:22SPEAKER_00: Give me the Cardinals at home, live dogs at home.
- 56:26SPEAKER_00: Who you got?
- 56:28SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna roll with Seattle just because I think that defense is gonna do enough.
- 56:32SPEAKER_01: I don't think Jacoby Bursett is gonna be able to do anything in this game, and I think Drew Locke will be able to do just enough.
- 56:40SPEAKER_01: I think this will be a very low-scoring game.
- 56:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I think with that defense in Seattle, uh, and I think you can rely just on enough on Drew Locke and um JSN to get you another win here.
- 56:53SPEAKER_01: And that would be big for Seattle.
- 56:55SPEAKER_01: That'd be huge.
- 56:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they can they came away and got a win against the Patriots week one um without uh Sam Darnold.
- 57:04SPEAKER_01: So I I think they're gonna also have some luck here and and and get that get that win.
- 57:09SPEAKER_00: Some positive news while we're talking about Seattle.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: Uh, they did say today they do not plan to put Darnold on the IR, um, which is a good sign.
- 57:18SPEAKER_00: That means it's not severe enough that he's gonna miss you know a month or more.
- 57:22SPEAKER_00: Um, but he's definitely not going to play in this game in week two.
- 57:25SPEAKER_00: So now it is time for us to tail the tailgate.
- 57:29SPEAKER_00: Last week, uh my guest was Nate Smith.
- 57:32SPEAKER_00: He went five and three up 1.6 units.
- 57:36SPEAKER_00: I went six and two plus three point four five units.
- 57:40SPEAKER_00: Not a bad day for me and Nate last week.
- 57:43SPEAKER_00: So the challenge is on for me and Dylan to live up to that.
- 57:46SPEAKER_00: So we'll go ping pong style.
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: I will go first.
- 57:49SPEAKER_00: My first pick, it's a game we started this conversation about.
- 57:53SPEAKER_00: That's the Bills.
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: I am taking them minus four and a half against the Lions on Thursday night.
- 57:59SPEAKER_00: First game in High Mark Stadium.
- 58:01SPEAKER_00: I think they cover the spread.
- 58:04SPEAKER_01: I am going to go back to the Saints for week two, and I think they cover uh in this game against the Ravens.
- 58:14SPEAKER_00: Well, we have a little fight on our hand because my second pick is actually going to be the Ravens minus eight and a half.
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: So uh one of us will be a winner here no matter what, um, thanks to the hook there.
- 58:27SPEAKER_00: So I'm on the Ravens minus eight and a half.
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: What is your second pick?
- 58:33SPEAKER_01: I am doubling down on my trust in this Jaguars offense, and I am just going straight Jaguars money line to get it done.
- 58:45SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 58:45SPEAKER_00: I love the confidence.
- 58:47SPEAKER_00: My third pick is also in the Jags Broncos game.
- 58:51SPEAKER_00: I am on the over in the game.
- 58:53SPEAKER_00: As I said, I do think that we're gonna see some positive regression from the Broncos offense.
- 58:58SPEAKER_00: I don't think that they're gonna have three fumbles and an interception.
- 59:02SPEAKER_00: I do think that they will have a hard time, as most teams will, defending the Jags when they are in empty sets.
- 59:09SPEAKER_00: We have a lot of wide receivers and at altitude with two really good kickers, one of them who set the NFL record.
- 59:16SPEAKER_00: I like them going over this total at 45.
- 59:20SPEAKER_00: Um, so that's my third pick.
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: Where are you at now?
- 59:26SPEAKER_01: For my third pick, I am gonna go to uh a Mac Hollins and do a little player prop here.
- 59:32SPEAKER_00: More or over 40 receiving yards.
- 59:36SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 59:37SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 59:38SPEAKER_00: That's a that's a great number for him.
- 59:41SPEAKER_00: Um my fourth pick, a game that we were both on the same side of, I just think that they have such an advantage this week.
- 59:50SPEAKER_00: Um coming back home finally.
- 59:53SPEAKER_00: Um again, kind of the trend as I talked about with Drew Locke.
- 59:57SPEAKER_00: The second week playing a backup quarterback, if Wentz does start again, likely will not go well.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_00: And I do not see the Vikings defense slowing down this Bears offense.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_00: I'm taking the Bears minus four and a half.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'm gonna go back to a player prop.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_01: I think we see a better game from our guy, Baker Mayfield, and I like him over 220 passing yards.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, I like that.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_00: Okay, especially at home against the Browns.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_00: That defense did not inspire a lot of confidence last week.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_00: Um, similar kind of styles, gunslingers with Baker and Trevor, so they could be in for it.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_00: And there's always some revenge factored in when Baker plays the Browns.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_00: So I like that a lot.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_00: Um, my fifth pick, uh, Sunday night football, uh uh NFC East game.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_00: I'm taking the Cowboys minus four at home.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_00: As I said, I think Dak plays well in this kind of situation.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_00: I'm taking the Cowboys on the spread.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_01: Uh for my next pick, um uh might be betting with my heart here, but I am fairly confident that the Patriots will cover there at five and a half.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_00: I I love that.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_00: I thought about one of my picks being um being the the the Steelers team total under.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_00: I think it was set at 17 or 16 and a half, which was just kind of on the border of what I was comfortable with.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_00: Um so I held off on that, but I do think the Patriots cover.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_00: I like that play.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_00: Um, another over for me, I I think there's gonna be points this weekend, is in the Chiefs and the Colts game.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_00: I think, as I said, the Colts are gonna have a hard time um defending this Chiefs running game, um, defending this Chiefs passing attack.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_00: And I think the Colts will be able to run the ball much better than the Broncos could against the Chiefs.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_00: I like the over 46 there in Indianapolis between the Chiefs and the Colts.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_00: Or excuse me, an arrowhead between the Chiefs and the Colts.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_01: I like that.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_01: That's a good one.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_01: I think my next one, um, going back to the player props, I really like this week, and I am going to go Brock Purdy more than 240 passing yards.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_01: I think they go down to Miami, and that offense is rolling.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_01: I think we see some deep passes to Mike Evans.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_01: Um, and uh yeah, I like I like Brock and his passing yards this week.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_00: Um, I got two more.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_00: Uh, both of them are going to be in the same game.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_00: So my first one is the Seahawks and the Cardinals under.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_00: You kind of said it yourself that you thought it was going to be low scoring.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_00: I also think this is going to be low scoring.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_00: And again, if I see a total at 41 or below, chances are I'm going to take the under.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_00: So I am taking the Seahawks, Cardinals under 41, and I'll just go ahead and give you my last one.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_00: Cardinals moneyline, baby.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_00: Jacoby Brissett, Trey McBride, let's get it done.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_01: I like it.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm going to shout out MIZ's Luther Burton and another shout out, Nate Smith.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_01: I think Luther Burden more than 60 receiving yards.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_00: Perfect.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_00: Uh, I went ahead and gave my last pick, so you can finish us up here.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_00: Who was your last tail the tailgate pick?
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_01: And I know we talked about kind of the storms and the weather uh possibly happening for that game for the Bears.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_01: I I just I've liked that offense, and if you can get Caleb's passing yards uh over 230, uh I like that a lot.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_00: Wonderful.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_00: So to recap, I am on the Bills minus four and a half, the Ravens minus eight and a half, the Jags, Broncos over 45, the Bears minus four and a half, the Cowboys minus four, the Chiefs and the Colts over 46.5, the Seahawks and the Cardinals under 41 and a half, and the Cardinals on the money line.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_00: My friend Dylan is on the Saints plus eight and a half, the Jags on the money line, Mac Hollins over 40 receiving yards, Baker over 220 passing yards, the Patriots to cover minus five and a half, Brock Purdy over 240, Luther Burden over 60, and Caleb Williams over 230.
- 1:04:31SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_00: You think we're gonna beat me and Nate's record last week of 11 and 5?
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_01: Man, I I need a bounce back week because week one was not good for your boy.
