- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to our Conversation podcast and a little bit of
- 0:04Speaker 1: a different intro to the segment. This time Charlie Strickland
- 0:07Speaker 1: back with me from the Talent Training Group. It's been
- 0:10Speaker 1: a while since Charlie's been able to join us, and
- 0:12Speaker 1: we got to talking about an event that took place
- 0:16Speaker 1: just the night before and it actually led to our
- 0:19Speaker 1: entire discussion this morning on the Morning Show with Preston Scott.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Last night we had a big church safety event at
- 0:26Speaker 2: a manual Baptist We had a couple hundred people plus
- 0:29Speaker 2: there at this event, and Stephen Wilifford from suther Southern
- 0:34Speaker 2: Springs Baptist Church that stopped that shooting was there and
- 0:39Speaker 2: there were a lot of people came up afterwards, iod, Hey,
- 0:41Speaker 2: listen to your Are you in Preston in the Morning
- 0:43Speaker 2: or JD. And I said, I am back. There you go,
- 0:46Speaker 2: and I'm back.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Let's talk for a second about that church gathering and
- 0:51Speaker 1: remind everybody, the gentleman that you had in as your guest,
- 0:55Speaker 1: what happened in that church.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Well, what happened was a stranged person from one of
- 1:02Speaker 2: the church members went in there looking for a relative,
- 1:05Speaker 2: you know, he wanted to do some bad things and
- 1:08Speaker 2: went in with an AR fifteen and and a pistol,
- 1:12Speaker 2: and he walked around the church and just started shooting
- 1:15Speaker 2: this church up on a Sunday morning from the outside
- 1:19Speaker 2: and ultimately and they thought it was just something firecrackers,
- 1:26Speaker 2: something going on outside. Next thing you know, will it
- 1:28Speaker 2: start coming into the church, into the sanctuary. And then
- 1:31Speaker 2: he comes into the church and starts shooting people with
- 1:34Speaker 2: a rifle and then walking up and executing him with
- 1:36Speaker 2: a pistol. And he shot He killed like twenty two
- 1:39Speaker 2: and shot twenty four more. I mean, there was forty
- 1:42Speaker 2: something people wounded, injured or killed in that. And mister
- 1:47Speaker 2: Wilford was a member of the church and he was
- 1:50Speaker 2: several doors down taking the day off. First time in
- 1:54Speaker 2: like eight weeks. He didn't go to church, but he
- 1:55Speaker 2: was going on call at the hospital as a plumbing
- 1:59Speaker 2: person or something. He was a retired guy, but he
- 2:01Speaker 2: worked part time in the hospital and he's in our instructor.
- 2:04Speaker 2: He hears the gunshots. His daughter goes in and says, hey, Dad,
- 2:07Speaker 2: wake up, there's a there's something going on at the church.
- 2:11Speaker 2: He grabbed an R fifteen, didn't have loaded magazines. He
- 2:14Speaker 2: popped about eight rounds in the magazine, walked, ran down
- 2:17Speaker 2: the road barefooted, yelled. The guy stopped what he was
- 2:21Speaker 2: doing because he heard somebody coming, walked outside, immediately engaged
- 2:26Speaker 2: mister Wiliford with his handgun. Wiliford shopped back, hit him
- 2:29Speaker 2: a couple of times in the guy's body army. He's
- 2:31Speaker 2: wearing a level three body armor and a kevlar helmet,
- 2:34Speaker 2: and they engaged in a vehicle pursuit. He hopped in
- 2:37Speaker 2: a truck with someone else, went down the road and
- 2:39Speaker 2: the guy ended up offered himself after mister Wilfrid shot
- 2:42Speaker 2: him several times. And I mean there would have been
- 2:46Speaker 2: more people killed had he not done what he did.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I mean, he intervened, He did what he what people
- 2:52Speaker 2: should do. There was you know, I think miss listening
- 2:57Speaker 2: to Stephen talkie and I think some of his only
- 2:59Speaker 2: regrets not being able to respond sooner sure having a
- 3:03Speaker 2: loaded magazine and being able to be there quick, or
- 3:05Speaker 2: not having gone to church that day because the entire
- 3:08Speaker 2: church safety all the people that were armed in that
- 3:10Speaker 2: church were somewhere else that day. Oh my, it speaks
- 3:13Speaker 2: to how important it is to have people in the right place.
- 3:17Speaker 1: We're back with Charlie Strickland of the Talent Trading Group
- 3:19Speaker 1: our Personal Defense segment, talking about a meeting at a
- 3:22Speaker 1: local church here just last night, and you mentioned that
- 3:28Speaker 1: just circumstances were such that in this church they didn't
- 3:30Speaker 1: have really anybody ready.
- 3:32Speaker 2: At the time. They didn't have a team per se.
- 3:34Speaker 2: There were several well I think he's three, four or
- 3:37Speaker 2: five guys that you know, all had guns and shot.
- 3:40Speaker 2: They were the people who were normally armed in the church.
- 3:42Speaker 2: And they felt pretty good about this. And this is Texas, too, sure,
- 3:46Speaker 2: but the and it's not a small small church. I
- 3:49Speaker 2: mean there's forty something people shot in this thing, so
- 3:52Speaker 2: I mean it was its big. You know, it's not
- 3:55Speaker 2: a tiny church. But the So yeah, somebody was out
- 3:59Speaker 2: of town that day, and somebody was running late, and
- 4:02Speaker 2: mister wiliferd was taking the day off because he had
- 4:05Speaker 2: to go on call all night that night and was
- 4:07Speaker 2: getting some rest and just turns out that there was
- 4:10Speaker 2: nobody in there that was armed on that particular day,
- 4:13Speaker 2: which was unusual. So you know, God in weir body
- 4:18Speaker 2: armor for nothing, may bee he anticipated resistance, But so yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 2: I mean it's important, and you know some of the
- 4:24Speaker 2: takeaway from that are making sure that you have in
- 4:27Speaker 2: your organization. And this doesn't just mean churches. It can
- 4:31Speaker 2: be other organizations as well. But if you're in a church,
- 4:34Speaker 2: you really should have a team. And it is very
- 4:36Speaker 2: prevalent now it is the norm that people will have
- 4:39Speaker 2: some sort of organized group of guys, either formerly endorsed
- 4:44Speaker 2: by the church or people who just get together and
- 4:46Speaker 2: say we're going to do this. A lot of people,
- 4:48Speaker 2: you know, well, we don't want the church knowing per
- 4:51Speaker 2: se because we don't want to do with insurance issues
- 4:53Speaker 2: or all this. But so what's happening nowadays is becoming
- 4:56Speaker 2: more common for a formalized plan, standard operation procedures to
- 5:00Speaker 2: be put into place, forming a team, selecting a team,
- 5:04Speaker 2: having people who lead that team and are responsible for
- 5:06Speaker 2: training that team, and that that team getting training and
- 5:10Speaker 2: going to the range and spending time doing things and
- 5:13Speaker 2: working on de escalation techniques and how to encounter somebody
- 5:18Speaker 2: at the door, where you've got greeters who are should
- 5:22Speaker 2: be armed that know how to you know, make eye contact,
- 5:26Speaker 2: judge people based on you know, their body language and
- 5:30Speaker 2: appearance and you know, casually maybe just shake their hand,
- 5:35Speaker 2: maybe put their arm around them see if they've got
- 5:37Speaker 2: a gun on them or something. Welcome, brothers, thank you
- 5:39Speaker 2: for coming. Yeah, I mean, so it's people in churches
- 5:44Speaker 2: tend to be in the South, tend to be a
- 5:45Speaker 2: little touch you pheeley. This is a great opportunity to
- 5:48Speaker 2: do it unless you're you don't want to be patting
- 5:50Speaker 2: down women or anything. But at the same time, unless
- 5:52Speaker 2: you're a woman, and if you've got a female ushers
- 5:55Speaker 2: and men aren't going to object too much. So it's uh,
- 5:58Speaker 2: you know serious, sure, yeah, so so but you know
- 6:05Speaker 2: that's that's it's their techniques to it. I mean, the
- 6:08Speaker 2: thing is is that if you're in the house of worship,
- 6:10Speaker 2: you should have people there that know what they're doing.
- 6:13Speaker 2: They should there should be a plan in place that
- 6:15Speaker 2: should be in writing if if it's endorsed by the church. Listen,
- 6:20Speaker 2: and it was down there. It just you got to train.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Backward. Charlie Stricklin of the Talent Training Group, And we're
- 6:29Speaker 1: just sort of taking advantage of the recent event as
- 6:34Speaker 1: in last night.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that's pretty.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Recent and the proliferation of churches and organizations now mindful
- 6:43Speaker 1: of security. And let's talk a little bit more about
- 6:46Speaker 1: about the planning and the don't let this happen either
- 6:50Speaker 1: type of scenarios that we were talking about, where you
- 6:53Speaker 1: have multiple people inside, all with the best of intentions,
- 6:56Speaker 1: but if something goes wrong, you need to have a
- 6:58Speaker 1: plan for when something goes wrong.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Yeah, there was one church I was watching a video.
- 7:02Speaker 2: It's been it's been a while since it occurred, where
- 7:05Speaker 2: a guy comes in, pulls a shotgun in the middle
- 7:07Speaker 2: of the church and shoots a couple of people. One
- 7:11Speaker 2: was trying to shoot him and he got shot first,
- 7:13Speaker 2: and another one drew and shot this guy. And you
- 7:17Speaker 2: look on a video in like half of there's like
- 7:19Speaker 2: four or five people jump up and are all point
- 7:21Speaker 2: and guns and there's a lot of movement in there.
- 7:24Speaker 2: And so there was some good came out of that.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Unfortunately two people were killed, but the good of it
- 7:30Speaker 2: was that multiple people that did in fact respond. But
- 7:34Speaker 2: you have to you have to be you have to
- 7:37Speaker 2: consider the fact that there are a lot of sheep
- 7:39Speaker 2: dogs that are going to church, people who want to
- 7:42Speaker 2: be armed, people who are armed, and you can't stop
- 7:44Speaker 2: them from being armed. They're gonna carry but they may
- 7:47Speaker 2: not be part of your team. They may not be
- 7:48Speaker 2: part of the response. No more than as a business
- 7:52Speaker 2: owner or someone who has a plan for your business,
- 7:54Speaker 2: you can't help which which customer happens to draw a gun.
- 7:57Speaker 2: And you, as a as a armed citizen, you may
- 8:02Speaker 2: draw a gun not considering the fact that other people
- 8:04Speaker 2: don't know who you are. And now all of a
- 8:06Speaker 2: sudden you're walking running around with a gun and responding
- 8:08Speaker 2: officers or other people see you with a gun and
- 8:10Speaker 2: you may be the one that gets shot because there's
- 8:12Speaker 2: a lot of there's a lot of factors that go
- 8:14Speaker 2: into this. But in a church, so if you've got
- 8:18Speaker 2: a team, and you have a formalized team, then you
- 8:20Speaker 2: want to let everybody in the church know that we
- 8:22Speaker 2: have a formalized team, we have a plan. If you
- 8:24Speaker 2: carry that spot. However, if something happens, unless it's right
- 8:29Speaker 2: next to you, you need to let us do our
- 8:33Speaker 2: thing because we don't. You don't if you're not part
- 8:37Speaker 2: of our training, you're not part of the solution. You're
- 8:39Speaker 2: just you're just attending here. Yes, protect yourself and your family. However,
- 8:45Speaker 2: let us do the job because that's what we have
- 8:47Speaker 2: prepared and trained to do, and we have a system
- 8:50Speaker 2: worked out. Now, if a couple of your team members
- 8:53Speaker 2: are down, then obviously, you know Katie bought a door,
- 8:56Speaker 2: it's time to make a change in that game plan.
- 8:59Speaker 2: I would have a hard time sitting there as a
- 9:01Speaker 2: twenty year SWAT veteran, sitting in a church and leaving
- 9:04Speaker 2: with some guys who have some weekend training do something
- 9:07Speaker 2: without me intervening. But then again, if I were going
- 9:11Speaker 2: to a church regularly, I would be on the team
- 9:13Speaker 2: so well.
- 9:14Speaker 1: And if not, for example, I know of situations where
- 9:18Speaker 1: someone that has your background is not part of the
- 9:20Speaker 1: team for a myriad of reasons, just timing or whatever.
- 9:23Speaker 1: But they're aware of what we do and they understand
- 9:28Speaker 1: that we do have this ofce you know there, so
- 9:31Speaker 1: there and at that point that they can be helpful
- 9:33Speaker 1: because of their years of experience.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, and you have to if you're running
- 9:37Speaker 2: a team and you're you're working with a team, you
- 9:40Speaker 2: need to look at what's going on. You've got a
- 9:44Speaker 2: guy shows up with the Briger LCP in this front pocket.
- 9:48Speaker 2: That's not a church. That's that that's get off me.
- 9:51Speaker 2: That's not responding to an actual shooter in a church
- 9:53Speaker 2: firearm because it's not accurate. Beyond you and I are
- 9:57Speaker 2: four feet apart from each other five feet apart. That's
- 10:00Speaker 2: the limit of the accuracy, particularly under stressed with that.
- 10:03Speaker 2: And that's body shots. Yeah, I mean that's a run up,
- 10:05Speaker 2: screw it in his ear and pull the trigger gun.
- 10:07Speaker 2: It's not beyond that. And so and I know people
- 10:09Speaker 2: that carry one in their pocket regularly, and that's great,
- 10:13Speaker 2: but it's not if you're If you are planning to
- 10:16Speaker 2: respond to an incident in a crowd where accuracy is
- 10:21Speaker 2: absolutely important, you need to be training, training headshots, training,
- 10:25Speaker 2: shooting under stress, training, moving and shooting, stepping to the side,
- 10:30Speaker 2: trying to find an angle where you can get a shot,
- 10:33Speaker 2: and all these and you need to be shooting a
- 10:35Speaker 2: competent weapon with some sembilance of accuracy. Let's be honest.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Handguns are tough guns to fight anyway. You really should
- 10:42Speaker 2: be fighting with long guns. But people aren't carrying long
- 10:44Speaker 2: guns since churches. Sure, bad guys will come in with
- 10:47Speaker 2: one and you're fighting back with the pistol. Don't let
- 10:49Speaker 2: it be a six shot rigger LCPN three eighty that
- 10:52Speaker 2: you know you've you've shot out of your pocket a
- 10:54Speaker 2: few times. It needs you need to have. You need
- 10:57Speaker 2: to be competent and use the right equipment and and
- 11:00Speaker 2: I'm really encouraged. I'm just made that we have to
- 11:04Speaker 2: do this as a country. But we've seen it coming
- 11:06Speaker 2: for a long time. Instead of people hiding their church
- 11:10Speaker 2: teams and having conversations in hushed tones. It's becoming more mainstream.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Yes it is.
- 11:15Speaker 2: And if you're in a church or a temple or
- 11:17Speaker 2: mosque or where whatever you may worship, and you don't
- 11:20Speaker 2: have the mindset in that house of worship to protect
- 11:24Speaker 2: that house of worship, then you are yeah, I mean
- 11:28Speaker 2: you really should. Now you can always hire armed security
- 11:31Speaker 2: to protect your place. Now that happens a lot. I
- 11:33Speaker 2: mean I have a company and we protect a couple
- 11:36Speaker 2: places people high law enforcement. It's not fool proof, not
- 11:41Speaker 2: fool proof you still, I mean there's you should layer
- 11:45Speaker 2: this to where you have different layers of protection. But
- 11:48Speaker 2: sometimes it's good just to throw a uniform presence out
- 11:51Speaker 2: front if you want it, If you have got the money,
- 11:52Speaker 2: you can spend the money, then you know that's certainly
- 11:56Speaker 2: an option.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Thirty five minutes past the hour, two more segments with
- 12:01Speaker 1: Charlie Strickland of the Talent Training Group. Our Personal Defense
- 12:04Speaker 1: segment We've been talking about church security, and it really,
- 12:07Speaker 1: like you said, devtails into any organization, any large group
- 12:11Speaker 1: where you have an organized security presence in some way,
- 12:13Speaker 1: shape or form. I've heard you and JD talk about
- 12:17Speaker 1: this on Talent Outdoors. You and I have discussed this
- 12:19Speaker 1: off and on over the years, the growth of red dots. First,
- 12:25Speaker 1: your thoughts on them for the person that is in
- 12:29Speaker 1: this security team role.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Well, I used to think those things were cool, and
- 12:33Speaker 2: then I tried using them, and I didn't think they
- 12:35Speaker 2: were cool. And then they got better. And now some
- 12:38Speaker 2: of them sit lower on the bore axis, they're closer.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I mean, you're gonna co witness some of the newest
- 12:45Speaker 2: ones with your pistol sites now. And so now, for
- 12:49Speaker 2: an old guy like me that shot hundreds and hundreds
- 12:51Speaker 2: of thousands of times in my life with regular sites,
- 12:54Speaker 2: it's not as hard for me to utilize them. They
- 12:56Speaker 2: are very accurate because and they're no more accurate it
- 13:00Speaker 2: inherently than open sits. But the thing is is the
- 13:03Speaker 2: red dot you can shoot with both eyes open very easily.
- 13:08Speaker 2: It's tough to train yourself to shoot with both eyes
- 13:10Speaker 2: open with standard sites, but with the red dot, a
- 13:13Speaker 2: holographic site, not a fixed laser that projects on it
- 13:16Speaker 2: for the people that are listening, but the one where
- 13:18Speaker 2: you look through the glass and you actually like the
- 13:20Speaker 2: radical of a rifle, you see a red dot or
- 13:22Speaker 2: a circle with a dot or something like that. Then
- 13:27Speaker 2: what that does allows you to keep both ice open,
- 13:30Speaker 2: utilize all your peripheral vision, and still see the dot superimposed,
- 13:33Speaker 2: and where that dit is is where the bullet goes
- 13:36Speaker 2: every single time, as long as you can maintain gripping
- 13:38Speaker 2: and trigger control and you're not bobbling the pistol around much.
- 13:42Speaker 2: It's easy to practice with these dry fire. With these,
- 13:45Speaker 2: you unload the gun and push it pointed across the
- 13:48Speaker 2: room at something on the wall and pull the trigger,
- 13:50Speaker 2: and then work your slide and point again pull the trigger,
- 13:53Speaker 2: so repetition ways to do that. They are awesome in
- 14:00Speaker 2: technical environment because you can in fact see where you're shooting,
- 14:07Speaker 2: and instead of trying to focus on the front sight,
- 14:10Speaker 2: which is how you shoot accurately with with standard sites,
- 14:13Speaker 2: it's you reference your rear sight, but it's front sight focused,
- 14:17Speaker 2: front sight focused, and you superimpose that clear front sight
- 14:20Speaker 2: on the blurry target. But in real life that's really
- 14:23Speaker 2: not how things go down. When you see a threat,
- 14:26Speaker 2: you are so focused on the threat, the person with
- 14:29Speaker 2: the gun. The gun, you know in scenarios we shoot.
- 14:34Speaker 2: When you're doing force on force training with plastic bullets
- 14:37Speaker 2: or whatever, you get shot in the hand. More than anything.
- 14:39Speaker 2: It's the one you have the gun in, or the
- 14:41Speaker 2: knife or the hammer or whatever we were presenting a
- 14:43Speaker 2: threat with. We get shot in the hand a lot
- 14:45Speaker 2: because people are so focused on the threat, that's what
- 14:47Speaker 2: they're pointing things at. But your eyes are going to
- 14:50Speaker 2: focus on the target by just that's what you're going
- 14:55Speaker 2: to look at. Okay, And unless you are really really
- 14:58Speaker 2: really advanced in your training, that's where under stress you're
- 15:01Speaker 2: going to look is at the target. The sites are
- 15:04Speaker 2: going to be a secondary thought, if at all, and
- 15:08Speaker 2: so getting that accurate hit is going to require you
- 15:10Speaker 2: to consciously pull back away from the target and look
- 15:13Speaker 2: at that front site in order to get an accurate hit.
- 15:18Speaker 2: But with a red dot, any kind of holographic, whatever
- 15:21Speaker 2: brand it is, if you repetitively shoot with that and
- 15:25Speaker 2: you actually train with it, so your eye goes to
- 15:27Speaker 2: that through that site and sees that red dot, you
- 15:30Speaker 2: can still focus on the threat. And you because your
- 15:34Speaker 2: eye can only focus on one plane at the time,
- 15:36Speaker 2: they see either the rear sight, to the front side,
- 15:38Speaker 2: or the target. You can't focus on multiple distances at
- 15:42Speaker 2: the same time. But with the red dot you can.
- 15:44Speaker 2: You're looking at the target, you're looking at the threat,
- 15:47Speaker 2: you're sizing up the threats as it is what it is,
- 15:50Speaker 2: assessing that and the red dot happens to be there
- 15:53Speaker 2: and that's where the bullet's going to go. So there's
- 15:55Speaker 2: a lot of value, which is why you're seeing most
- 15:57Speaker 2: law enforcement agencies go to red dots. In this day
- 16:01Speaker 2: and age, the technology has come come a long way.
- 16:05Speaker 1: All right, final segment here, Charlie Strickland, our personal defense segment,
- 16:09Speaker 1: and we're going to just take it to the final
- 16:12Speaker 1: I guess length here of the run and that is okay. Training.
- 16:17Speaker 1: We were just talking about just standing still and pointing
- 16:19Speaker 1: at a paper target doesn't really get it done when
- 16:21Speaker 1: you're talking about preparing for critical stress.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Now, if I'm standing shooting at a paper target, it's
- 16:26Speaker 2: either because I'm having a qualify for one of the
- 16:28Speaker 2: four dead Gum qualifications I have to do every year,
- 16:31Speaker 2: or it's because well involved in different groups and different
- 16:36Speaker 2: licenses on. You have to qualify. Okay, I reckon, I'll shoot,
- 16:41Speaker 2: so I'll figure out some way to put a hole,
- 16:43Speaker 2: strall and go. But when you go to the range
- 16:45Speaker 2: to actually train, if I'm shooting in a paper target,
- 16:48Speaker 2: it's because I'm working on my draw yep. I'm working
- 16:50Speaker 2: from drawing from concealment, trying weapon presentation, things like that,
- 16:54Speaker 2: or I'm just confirming all of the things still work.
- 16:57Speaker 2: I'm going through the motions. I'm finding the front site fundamentals. Yeah, yeah,
- 17:02Speaker 2: just working on fundamentals. Otherwise, what I'm doing is I'm
- 17:05Speaker 2: working from behind cover almost exclusively. I'm working or to
- 17:08Speaker 2: the right or the left of cover. I'm utilizing my
- 17:10Speaker 2: strong hand. I'm either using a crossover technique or I'm
- 17:14Speaker 2: transitioning to my support side hand. I'm using the other eye,
- 17:17Speaker 2: so I'm not presenting too much of my head from
- 17:20Speaker 2: behind the corner of cover. So I'm working cover. Or
- 17:23Speaker 2: I may be you know you mentioned on the break,
- 17:25Speaker 2: you know, getting up out of a chair. I may
- 17:28Speaker 2: be drawing from a seated position like I'm in a car.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I turn, you know, turned to the right ninety degrees
- 17:33Speaker 2: and my target would be on my left like it
- 17:35Speaker 2: was on my driver's window, or turn the other way
- 17:38Speaker 2: if it's my passenger window. So if you're training for
- 17:41Speaker 2: a team type response, it's critical that you work as
- 17:46Speaker 2: if you were in a crowd of people moving around,
- 17:50Speaker 2: and so you're sitting in a chair or a pew,
- 17:52Speaker 2: or you're standing by a door working the doors cover
- 17:57Speaker 2: as if someone were coming in the outer area of
- 18:01Speaker 2: an organization and trying to get into the sanctuary, pretending
- 18:06Speaker 2: there's a crowd of people. You know, a lot of people.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Forget that there are three dimensions when it comes to this.
- 18:11Speaker 2: There's not just left, right, forward and backwards. There's also
- 18:14Speaker 2: up and down, and so taking a knee and shooting
- 18:19Speaker 2: moving to something where you have a steady or also
- 18:22Speaker 2: thinking in terms of a lot of people are going
- 18:23Speaker 2: to be standing up and you're all of a sudden
- 18:25Speaker 2: you can see someone across the church, across the sanctuary,
- 18:30Speaker 2: and all of a sudden, everybody stands up starts running around.
- 18:32Speaker 2: You can't see them anymore. So if you've got a
- 18:35Speaker 2: sturdy enough position to stand on, you just want to
- 18:38Speaker 2: get a fold and chair or something. But if you
- 18:40Speaker 2: have something a sturdy enough bench, you may want to
- 18:43Speaker 2: consider stepping up to a higher getting above everyone's head,
- 18:47Speaker 2: and shooting down into a situation where you know, now
- 18:51Speaker 2: you can see above everybody and you can take a
- 18:55Speaker 2: shot from a different angle. You want to think about
- 18:57Speaker 2: the different angles, different positions, maybe moving. I don't move
- 19:01Speaker 2: and shoot, I move to shoot exactly. I move, I pause,
- 19:07Speaker 2: and then I shoot from a standing position and I
- 19:09Speaker 2: move again. I don't try to shoot into a crowd
- 19:12Speaker 2: or the crowd and while I'm walking. You know I
- 19:14Speaker 2: used to do that with us in law enforcement. Move,
- 19:17Speaker 2: don't stop, keep shooting. That's oppressive fire, that's not accurate fire.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I mean, if I'm trying to hit a headplate on
- 19:23Speaker 2: a on a steel rack while I'm walking, I'm not
- 19:25Speaker 2: likely to hit it as what I need to I
- 19:27Speaker 2: need to move. Pause. But you also, you know you
- 19:30Speaker 2: should work on how you move smoothly, gun up, then
- 19:35Speaker 2: also work How am I going to work around a crowd?
- 19:37Speaker 2: How am I going to work through a crowd? So
- 19:38Speaker 2: if I bring my gun down to a safe position,
- 19:41Speaker 2: muzzles down, how do I push through a crowd of
- 19:43Speaker 2: people to get to the threat. You know, one hand's down,
- 19:47Speaker 2: the strong hands down, muzzles pointed down, I'm as outside
- 19:52Speaker 2: of the trigger guard and and I'm moving through the
- 19:56Speaker 2: crowd and I'm moving people out of the way. And
- 19:57Speaker 2: you can do this with your group dry where you
- 20:00Speaker 2: just unload the weapon, make it safe, and have all
- 20:03Speaker 2: the people stand around, and you have to push through
- 20:06Speaker 2: there and then come up and then drive fire. You
- 20:08Speaker 2: can then do that live if you trust the group
- 20:10Speaker 2: and you've got a good instructor. You just need to
- 20:12Speaker 2: you know, things to be careful with. We do it
- 20:15Speaker 2: with law enforcement. So it's just you have to judge
- 20:18Speaker 2: your group on their skill set. But you can set
- 20:22Speaker 2: up barricades or where you have to move through a
- 20:24Speaker 2: certain team to try to get to something. There's so
- 20:26Speaker 2: many different things that you can do. Keep it, keeping
- 20:29Speaker 2: it interesting, keeping it cutting edge, keep giving someone different.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Because if you're just gonna come to the range, everybody shooter,
- 20:35Speaker 2: stand around and shoot, they're gonna shoot their mouths off
- 20:38Speaker 2: more than they're going to shoot their guns, and they're
- 20:39Speaker 2: not going to enjoy it. You've got to throw something
- 20:42Speaker 2: interesting at them. And then you also, as a formal team,
- 20:46Speaker 2: you want to document that training. You want a roster
- 20:48Speaker 2: of who showed up that day, a written summary of
- 20:51Speaker 2: what you did, and then keep that as a record.
- 20:53Speaker 2: I mean, you want training records because when you go
- 20:55Speaker 2: to court and it's a civil suit, you keep in
- 21:00Speaker 2: mind you don't want to go bankrupt because you're trying
- 21:04Speaker 2: to pay for all the legal ramifications of what you
- 21:08Speaker 2: did in that situation, just because you're trying to protect
- 21:11Speaker 2: your church. It's really important that your team record these
- 21:14Speaker 2: things and keep records and document it because it's going
- 21:17Speaker 2: to come up in court. They're going to go, did
- 21:19Speaker 2: you train, Yes, we did, all right, we want to
- 21:21Speaker 2: see your training records, and you're going to go When
- 21:24Speaker 2: we look at the calendar, I'll tell you what days
- 21:26Speaker 2: we trained on and we'll all get together. No no, no, no,
- 21:29Speaker 2: write it down. Good stuff. Thank you, good to see you,
- 21:32Speaker 2: Good to be here. Charlie Strickland Talent Training Group. He
