- 0:08Speaker 3: The World's a virginal podcast.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Nothing free about free agency. I'm telling you, until they go.
- 0:22Speaker 4: Out there and make a splash on the receiver market,
- 0:25Speaker 4: it's not going to feel complete and it's not going
- 0:27Speaker 4: to feel.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Before we get into what they haven't done yet. Let's
- 0:30Speaker 3: talk about what they have.
- 0:31Speaker 2: We got to be honest about it.
- 0:32Speaker 3: We will get to that. I want to talk about
- 0:34Speaker 3: who they've signed first. I'm getting there because everyone writes
- 0:37Speaker 3: in the well, Hey stonk he stonk he stonked.
- 0:40Speaker 2: He started all year, but he's stunked to I didn't
- 0:42Speaker 2: really see enough out of Woodson.
- 0:43Speaker 3: He's stock questions for Paul and the group on their
- 0:46Speaker 3: favorite topic of free agent contract.
- 0:49Speaker 5: Yeah, sorry, we're doing math over here.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Did I read that again so you can hear it?
- 0:54Speaker 6: Well?
- 0:54Speaker 3: Three years and eleven is thirty three. I'll read this again. Michelle,
- 0:59Speaker 3: who loves it when I call When I call her Salata.
- 1:04Speaker 3: This is Patriot's Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website. For deals,
- 1:09Speaker 3: buy a Toyota dot com. All right, welcome the Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:14Speaker 3: It is Thursday here at Jillette Stadium and free agent
- 1:19Speaker 3: frenzy going on at Jillette Stadium. Seven free agents signs
- 1:23Speaker 3: so far something like that. More than that eight and there.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Most of them are in the building today. So it's
- 1:31Speaker 3: very busy time here. It's gonna be a lot of
- 1:33Speaker 3: behind the scenes content that you're going to be seeing
- 1:35Speaker 3: later on Patriots dot com and Patriots social accounts. Uh,
- 1:39Speaker 3: there'll be some press conferences coming up later on uh
- 1:42Speaker 3: this afternoon. So the car wash is going on with
- 1:46Speaker 3: free agents, so let's get right into it. It's Evan,
- 1:49Speaker 3: Paul Stuce, it's me, it's Matt and the booth. Let's
- 1:52Speaker 3: talk about some of these signings that they've made. Very sensible,
- 1:57Speaker 3: heady chestnut check or so nice.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I like how you said, Fred Wall.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Let's start with Romeo Dobs because he was signed I
- 2:05Speaker 2: think about sixty seconds after we got off here.
- 2:10Speaker 7: Stretch for that one. I think they did it.
- 2:13Speaker 5: Yesterday too with Byered.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:14Speaker 5: Catchwenty two ended in thirty minutes later.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Kevin Byron.
- 2:17Speaker 7: I'm going to figure way catch twenty two, but I
- 2:20Speaker 7: mean that's the podcast.
- 2:21Speaker 5: They got to be worried about it.
- 2:24Speaker 3: I think in their heads they're actually giving us respect.
- 2:27Speaker 3: We don't want to like step on their show. So
- 2:30Speaker 3: we'll wait with our news until they're done.
- 2:32Speaker 7: Yeah, right, interesting way to want. Interesting take that's.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Built up a little bit.
- 2:36Speaker 2: There's plenty of talking my Romeo Doctors, Romeo Dows. I
- 2:40Speaker 2: would say my impression of Romeo Dobbs is that good
- 2:43Speaker 2: at a lot of things.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Maybe not great at.
- 2:45Speaker 2: A particular thing.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Evan wrote, you know, a really good piece breaking them down.
- 2:49Speaker 2: My impression of him, strong hands, uh you know, tough player,
- 2:54Speaker 2: good on contested catches, you know, maybe not the the
- 2:57Speaker 2: speedy burner kind of a guy, uh you know, but
- 3:01Speaker 2: ability to get open quick. A lot of his touchdowns
- 3:03Speaker 2: are right off the line down there, just you know,
- 3:05Speaker 2: quick slant move and go again. Love his hands and
- 3:09Speaker 2: his ability to catch the ball. So I think he's
- 3:11Speaker 2: a really versatile piece for Josh McDaniels. It makes sense
- 3:13Speaker 2: to me that he's going to move him around to
- 3:15Speaker 2: a bunch of different stuffs. And as you know, Paul's
- 3:18Speaker 2: pointed out, you needed to replace Stefan Diggs. I think
- 3:21Speaker 2: this is a pretty good replacement for you know, I think,
- 3:23Speaker 2: I mean, I think he maybe do more than what
- 3:25Speaker 2: they had sold last year.
- 3:26Speaker 3: But we have to we have to do this exercise
- 3:29Speaker 3: with anyone who has that type of potential. Why is
- 3:32Speaker 3: he available?
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I think I did the drafting wide receivers
- 3:37Speaker 2: over and over and over again. I think they're ready
- 3:39Speaker 2: to turn it over to the Texas. They have good
- 3:41Speaker 2: depth from last year.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Yeah, Matthew Golden, jan and Reed, Christian Watson when he's healthy.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Tucker Kraft will be back at tight end, so they
- 3:48Speaker 4: have a lot of mouths to feed already. This is
- 3:51Speaker 4: a move that the people are really high on across
- 3:55Speaker 4: the league, A ball knower type of move that you
- 3:58Speaker 4: got to really watch this kid. And reduction isn't eye popping.
- 4:01Speaker 4: It's you know, seven hundred and twenty six receiving yards
- 4:04Speaker 4: I think it was last year, which was his career
- 4:07Speaker 4: high so far. It's not it doesn't jump out at you.
- 4:11Speaker 4: But when you watch the tape and you think about
- 4:15Speaker 4: the way that Green Bay offense the volume is just
- 4:18Speaker 4: not necessarily there because they run the ball a decent amount,
- 4:21Speaker 4: they spread it around a decent amount, so they're not
- 4:24Speaker 4: necessarily featuring one receiver who's getting a.
- 4:27Speaker 5: High volume of targets.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Just the only thing I'd add to what Duce said
- 4:31Speaker 4: about his skill set, this is a really good route runner.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Like he's a really good separator against man coverage. He's
- 4:37Speaker 4: got a great feel for zone, good job running, you know,
- 4:40Speaker 4: little options or conversions within the routtree. He's a really sudden, smart,
- 4:47Speaker 4: savvy route runner. You know, similar I would say in
- 4:50Speaker 4: that respect to Diggs, where this is a guy that
- 4:53Speaker 4: can really has a feel for getting open and sort
- 4:56Speaker 4: of understands that part of the craft. So I think
- 4:59Speaker 4: the this is a one for one replacement. You know,
- 5:01Speaker 4: he's here to play the Digs role and take the
- 5:04Speaker 4: snaps that Diggs left behind and hopefully the production as well.
- 5:07Speaker 2: How about the safety Kevin Bayern, I mean, when I
- 5:11Speaker 2: saw he was a free agent this year on well,
- 5:12Speaker 2: that makes too much sense. I mean, Frabel talked about
- 5:14Speaker 2: him during the season. The court's been going back around
- 5:17Speaker 2: how he compared him to Hunter. Henry just consummate professional
- 5:20Speaker 2: out standing year last year, was the first team All
- 5:22Speaker 2: Pro and a Pro Bowl for the third time. You know,
- 5:25Speaker 2: it's it's an interesting swap for me with Jalen Hawkins
- 5:28Speaker 2: because you know, he's a little bit older, still playing
- 5:30Speaker 2: at a high level. But you saw as soon as
- 5:32Speaker 2: he kind of signed, Hawkins ended up going to the Ravens.
- 5:35Speaker 2: So on paper, it seems like that's the replacement. And
- 5:38Speaker 2: I mean it's good leadership, you know, a really good player.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Hopefully he can hang on. I mean, he's been incredibly
- 5:43Speaker 2: healthy over the course of his career. He has not
- 5:45Speaker 2: missed many games. Hopefully that can continue. And if it does,
- 5:48Speaker 2: I think it really he is as Craig Woodson is, you.
- 5:50Speaker 4: Know, thirty three, three thirty three, he'll be thirty three
- 5:52Speaker 4: by the time the season rule.
- 5:53Speaker 3: But he did have a good season, great season, you know,
- 5:57Speaker 3: not a lot of money, nine million of years, I
- 5:58Speaker 3: think it was nine nine.
- 6:01Speaker 7: Not a lot of money.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Yeah, But I mean I'm just interested.
- 6:04Speaker 2: What interests me most about this is just how it
- 6:07Speaker 2: helps Craig woods and Craig Woodson really came on at
- 6:09Speaker 2: the end of the season playing with with Hawkins. Now
- 6:12Speaker 2: you've got Buyered, who obviously can do everything that Vrabel
- 6:15Speaker 2: wants to do in this defense. So I think it's
- 6:17Speaker 2: an exciting move. It's just you know, it's one of
- 6:18Speaker 2: those ones where you hope he doesn't start to get
- 6:20Speaker 2: banged up or the age doesn't catch up with him.
- 6:22Speaker 2: But if he's you know, continues to do what he's
- 6:24Speaker 2: been doing, he's going to be a really good player.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I think they got better at that position with buyers.
- 6:27Speaker 7: I do too, and that, to me is the only
- 6:29Speaker 7: thing I care about. I was a little I like
- 6:34Speaker 7: this move.
- 6:35Speaker 8: I was a little surprised by it because of the
- 6:37Speaker 8: way Vrabel talked, because it doesn't really you know, we
- 6:41Speaker 8: wanted to get younger and cheaper, and you got older
- 6:44Speaker 8: and more expensive at the spot. Now I think he's
- 6:47Speaker 8: a better player than Jalen Hawkins. You guys know that
- 6:49Speaker 8: I am not the biggest Jalen Hawkins fan out there,
- 6:52Speaker 8: so I personally think you got better. So that's the
- 6:55Speaker 8: three boxes. Younger, cheaper, and more talented. I think you
- 7:00Speaker 8: check the more talented. There is a concern a lot
- 7:04Speaker 8: of the guys they signed have some kind of sketchy
- 7:06Speaker 8: injury history. This guy does not. This guy plays every
- 7:10Speaker 8: game every year.
- 7:12Speaker 7: So you sort of roll the dice with a thirty
- 7:16Speaker 7: three year old guy.
- 7:17Speaker 8: But then you look and you say, you know, the
- 7:18Speaker 8: guy literally missed one game in ten years.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Yeah, and last year I think he played like every
- 7:24Speaker 3: I think he played like.
- 7:25Speaker 7: Every snap last year. It's not even just that play.
- 7:29Speaker 3: You see that from guards sometimes but not from.
- 7:31Speaker 8: So I like this signing a lot because, you know,
- 7:35Speaker 8: more so because I don't really love Jalen Hawkins, and
- 7:39Speaker 8: I didn't I didn't believe in the Jalen Hawkins hype
- 7:41Speaker 8: train last year. I got a lot of pushback from it.
- 7:45Speaker 8: But it tells me that they probably he wasn't willing
- 7:48Speaker 8: to sign with what they wanted to sign for, and
- 7:51Speaker 8: he ends up going to Baltimore. I think he got
- 7:53Speaker 8: like two and ten, you know, on paper. Who knows
- 7:56Speaker 8: where the guarantee is. I didn't check into that, but
- 7:59Speaker 8: you know, he they looked at Bayered is a better option.
- 8:04Speaker 5: Yep, He's a better player.
- 8:05Speaker 7: He's a much better player.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:06Speaker 4: I mean, I think there's a conversation that we can
- 8:09Speaker 4: have about the future of that spot and who's going
- 8:12Speaker 4: to be next to Craig Woodson in the long term.
- 8:15Speaker 4: But this isn't a maybe the best, one of the
- 8:19Speaker 4: best ball hawking safeties of his era, Like he's really
- 8:22Speaker 4: that kind of player. When you watch him on tape,
- 8:25Speaker 4: it's almost uncanny how good he is at knowing where
- 8:28Speaker 4: the ball is going, like he has an eye for
- 8:30Speaker 4: the fall. Yeah, instincts and just like understanding route combinations
- 8:36Speaker 4: of like this is the where they're trying to attack
- 8:39Speaker 4: and the defense right now, and I'm just going to
- 8:41Speaker 4: jump the route. But I'm not going to jump it
- 8:43Speaker 4: too early because I don't I want him to throw it,
- 8:45Speaker 4: So I'm going to kind of bait him into this throw.
- 8:47Speaker 4: I mean, he he just has some incredible instincts like that.
- 8:51Speaker 8: I just hope he still has something. I mean, the
- 8:54Speaker 8: season he's coming off is was tremendous. I just hope
- 8:56Speaker 8: he has something left.
- 8:57Speaker 4: I think he moves fyard a lot of where until
- 9:01Speaker 4: I would say, like you you don't want to put
- 9:02Speaker 4: him in man coverage, Like if he gets put into
- 9:05Speaker 4: man to man against like a dynamic tight end or
- 9:07Speaker 4: something like that, that's probably not a matchup that you
- 9:10Speaker 4: want him in. But you kind of assume that a
- 9:12Speaker 4: guy like Craig Woodson or maybe you know, somebody they
- 9:15Speaker 4: draft as a third safety would be a little bit more, uh,
- 9:18Speaker 4: you know, capable of doing something like that. I want
- 9:22Speaker 4: you want Buyer to seaball get ball. You want him
- 9:25Speaker 4: to have eyes in the backfield and just reading quarterbacks.
- 9:28Speaker 3: So would you consider those two guys the top so
- 9:31Speaker 3: far of our free agent class?
- 9:32Speaker 7: Yeah, I think Vera Tucker.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, it's more details have come out though
- 9:38Speaker 2: about Barah Tucker's contract. It makes you realize it's highly
- 9:42Speaker 2: incentive laden, so they're aware of his injury history, and
- 9:46Speaker 2: that's you know, it's kind of the opposite end of
- 9:47Speaker 2: the spectrum.
- 9:49Speaker 8: You are you considering the roster game day roster bonus incentives.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know.
- 9:57Speaker 7: I just I didn't know if there was incentives that
- 9:59Speaker 7: I wasn't.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Whereabout like Pro Bowl, no.
- 10:04Speaker 8: Plays in the game, he could play like crap game
- 10:06Speaker 8: days getting his money right, right, Like he doesn't have
- 10:08Speaker 8: to play at a level.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Now that's why I get his money.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Well, he has a six million dollar incentive package that
- 10:13Speaker 4: you're talking about. So that's because he got three for
- 10:15Speaker 4: forty two with up to forty eight million right possible.
- 10:19Speaker 4: So he has he has probably playing time incentives, maybe
- 10:23Speaker 4: a Pro Bowl instead of I think if he's healthy, he's.
- 10:25Speaker 8: Twenty one million dollar guarantee, so he doesn't have to
- 10:28Speaker 8: do anything to make twenty one.
- 10:30Speaker 7: So they this is a you know, an investment.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's opposite in the spectrum, hoping they
- 10:35Speaker 2: can meet in the middle and you know, the highest play.
- 10:38Speaker 7: The highest risk one out of them.
- 10:39Speaker 8: You know, Dobbs has missed some games, but I think
- 10:41Speaker 8: he's been fairly productive when he plays. This is why
- 10:46Speaker 8: I brought him up like two weeks ago, because I
- 10:49Speaker 8: didn't really ever believe in the Alec Pierce interest. Now
- 10:54Speaker 8: maybe I'm wrong, Maybe they really did have interest in
- 10:56Speaker 8: Maybe he just wanted to stay in Indianapolis. I don't
- 10:59Speaker 8: have any I always like to say, remember when Andy
- 11:02Speaker 8: was here and we used to say, like if only
- 11:04Speaker 8: we had sources.
- 11:05Speaker 7: I don't really have any sources.
- 11:07Speaker 8: I just sort of look at stuff like Mike says,
- 11:09Speaker 8: you know, Kevin Bayer, a guy that spent a lot
- 11:12Speaker 8: of time with Mike Rabel just you know, you just
- 11:14Speaker 8: connect dots. And that was to me how I looked
- 11:17Speaker 8: at Romeo Dobbs. Not because I thought he was like this,
- 11:20Speaker 8: you know, blossoming superstar. I think he is what he is.
- 11:23Speaker 8: I think he's a solid number two type receiver, and
- 11:26Speaker 8: I think he'll replace.
- 11:29Speaker 7: Most, if not all, of what you had from Diggs.
- 11:32Speaker 8: I think he can be a guy that goes from
- 11:34Speaker 8: like fifty five sixty catches to seventy five.
- 11:38Speaker 7: Eighty catches easily.
- 11:40Speaker 8: Yeah, easily because of all the things that Evan and
- 11:43Speaker 8: Mike said about his rout running ability, his hands, his versatility.
- 11:47Speaker 7: Yeah, I just thought it made sense.
- 11:48Speaker 5: Yeah, No, you nailed this one.
- 11:50Speaker 4: I when he was coming out of college, he was
- 11:53Speaker 4: much more profiled as like a bigger downfield receiver that
- 11:58Speaker 4: was going to like win jump balls at the hatch point.
- 12:01Speaker 4: And I think during his time in Green Bay he's
- 12:04Speaker 4: kind of become a much better route runner and a
- 12:07Speaker 4: much more quicker mover than he was coming.
- 12:10Speaker 5: Out of college.
- 12:11Speaker 4: And that was so I was kind of in my opinion,
- 12:14Speaker 4: I was kind of going off of what I knew
- 12:16Speaker 4: of the player instead of what he's kind of become.
- 12:18Speaker 4: And once I started to dig into his tape, like
- 12:21Speaker 4: he's definitely more of a technician now than he was
- 12:25Speaker 4: in school. So I think that's a feather in his
- 12:27Speaker 4: cap now. I still have reservations about, you know, to
- 12:30Speaker 4: do the whole wide receiver one thing, But is he
- 12:33Speaker 4: that guy? Probably not. But he had forty one first
- 12:36Speaker 4: downs last year. He had the fifth highest rate of
- 12:39Speaker 4: receptions going for first downs in the league. Last year,
- 12:42Speaker 4: Diggs had fifty one first downs for the Patriots on
- 12:44Speaker 4: higher volume. So like he's from an efficiency standpoint, he's
- 12:48Speaker 4: right there to replace like the chain moving element that
- 12:51Speaker 4: Stefan Diggs brought to the table.
- 12:53Speaker 5: So I like that at a higher volume.
- 12:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I like a skill set with Drake too. I mean,
- 12:56Speaker 2: I just like his hands stood out to me. He's
- 12:58Speaker 2: just big, strong hand catcher of the football. I think
- 13:01Speaker 2: those are the kind of plays. I mean there's a
- 13:03Speaker 2: number where Jordan loves just chucking it down the field
- 13:05Speaker 2: and he can go up and get the ball. So
- 13:07Speaker 2: I think it's a good match for Drake. I'm just wondering.
- 13:11Speaker 2: We'll get into this as we start our draft countdown
- 13:13Speaker 2: show this week. How does it affect the need and
- 13:15Speaker 2: do you look at it now and say when we
- 13:17Speaker 2: get into the draft, not let's skip it out of
- 13:19Speaker 2: the draft, but do you look at more of an
- 13:21Speaker 2: outside guy now? Do you try to find a little
- 13:23Speaker 2: bit more size and speed for the outside to compliment him?
- 13:26Speaker 2: Are you still interested in guys like we talked about Concepcione,
- 13:29Speaker 2: who's going to be an inside similar player, right, I
- 13:31Speaker 2: mean him and Omark Cooper probably very similar to what
- 13:33Speaker 2: Dobbs does. Do you still consider those guys or do
- 13:36Speaker 2: you look more towards interesting Brazzle or Boston's a big
- 13:40Speaker 2: outside guy.
- 13:42Speaker 5: We're back in that.
- 13:43Speaker 4: I mean, this is Diggs right, Like he's going to
- 13:45Speaker 4: play a role similar to Stefan Diggs. Diggs played the
- 13:48Speaker 4: majority of his snaps in the slot last year.
- 13:51Speaker 1: They moved him there because they weren't playing him there earlier.
- 13:54Speaker 5: It was it was it was fifty to fifty. It
- 13:57Speaker 5: was very even.
- 13:58Speaker 4: I'll put that out there, but you know, just pure
- 14:02Speaker 4: slot snaps. You know, Dobbs was much more of an
- 14:05Speaker 4: X receiver in Green Bay, but they run a lot
- 14:07Speaker 4: of condensed formation, where like everybody is really in tight
- 14:11Speaker 4: to the middle of the field, so it's kind of
- 14:13Speaker 4: you know, comes out in the wash. I would say,
- 14:15Speaker 4: like to me, that's what he's going to play more
- 14:17Speaker 4: of here. He played a lot more X for the
- 14:19Speaker 4: Packers than I anticipate him playing here. You know, he
- 14:22Speaker 4: was a lot more of an outside guy in isolation,
- 14:25Speaker 4: like that sort of thing. I think here they're going
- 14:27Speaker 4: to move him inside and move him around the formation
- 14:29Speaker 4: a lot more.
- 14:30Speaker 8: One other thing I liked about Dobbs Freddie was He's
- 14:33Speaker 8: played really well in the playoffs, and that was one
- 14:36Speaker 8: thing that was kind of disappointing with Diggs. You know,
- 14:38Speaker 8: we had heard that reputation in Buffalo that he wasn't
- 14:42Speaker 8: great down the stretch and in the playoffs, and then
- 14:44Speaker 8: we saw him his production anyway tailed off the Packers.
- 14:48Speaker 5: The Packers game last year is a clinic.
- 14:50Speaker 4: Like if you really want to get excited about that guy,
- 14:53Speaker 4: about Dobbs, like, go turn on the Packers playoff game
- 14:56Speaker 4: from last year. He had eight for one twenty four
- 14:58Speaker 4: in a touchdown, just slot fades, crossing routes, little you know,
- 15:02Speaker 4: routes over the middle of the field to convert third downs.
- 15:05Speaker 4: I mean, he was putting on an absolute show.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Really interesting guy off the field too, and I you know,
- 15:09Speaker 2: listen some of his interviews, read some of the stories
- 15:12Speaker 2: about his background and he's from south central Los Angeles,
- 15:15Speaker 2: you know, got out of that area, a lot of
- 15:17Speaker 2: gang activity growing up. Also interesting story with him at
- 15:20Speaker 2: the combine. I guess he gus. He said like as
- 15:22Speaker 2: soon as he got off the plane in Indye he
- 15:24Speaker 2: had like food poisoning or something.
- 15:25Speaker 1: So a lot of the interviews he did during the combine.
- 15:28Speaker 2: He had the chills and was naxious, and I think
- 15:31Speaker 2: some of the teams kind of didn't know how to
- 15:33Speaker 2: read it. He's a very quiet guy too. I mean,
- 15:35Speaker 2: he's just he's not that wide receiver personality, fourth thrown
- 15:40Speaker 2: very I think, so, yeah, yeah, but quiet, they measured guy,
- 15:45Speaker 2: not one to kind of hype himself up, you know,
- 15:48Speaker 2: and sometimes you get the cliches of it's just about
- 15:50Speaker 2: the wins and the team, but you know, with him,
- 15:52Speaker 2: he's just very quiet and reserved, and it comes off
- 15:55Speaker 2: as he really seems like that kind of guy who
- 15:58Speaker 2: doesn't really get high or low.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Seems pretty in the middle.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I'm excited to see he's gonna come out here today
- 16:02Speaker 2: and we'll get to hear it.
- 16:03Speaker 7: So those are the two big ones, Freddy, but they
- 16:05Speaker 7: did make a handful of others.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Yeah, so they get the tight end out of Miami.
- 16:08Speaker 8: Yeah, Julian Hill saw Mike Reese report today. Three years,
- 16:12Speaker 8: eighteen million. I don't know what the guarantee is, so,
- 16:16Speaker 8: but three years that they they view him as the
- 16:21Speaker 8: backup tight end.
- 16:22Speaker 7: I would think if they've given him that kind.
- 16:24Speaker 8: Of a a term, he's got a reputation as a blocker,
- 16:29Speaker 8: so at that that fits.
- 16:30Speaker 7: He's not much of a receiver.
- 16:33Speaker 3: You know, he's another guy you get your blocking tight end.
- 16:36Speaker 3: I know that's important to you.
- 16:38Speaker 8: I will say, I'm reading a little bit about this yesterday,
- 16:42Speaker 8: wildly varying evaluations of his ability as a blocker.
- 16:47Speaker 7: Some say he's tremendous, some say he's terrible.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Well, his PFF grade was terrible, so you're only going
- 16:53Speaker 4: by PFF grades.
- 16:55Speaker 5: Watch the guy play.
- 16:56Speaker 8: Maybe that's what it is. Maybe people are seeing that
- 16:58Speaker 8: the PFF grade. But I some Miami people. I had
- 17:01Speaker 8: a few Miami people reach out to me on Twitter
- 17:05Speaker 8: when I posted about him yesterday, and I had a
- 17:09Speaker 8: couple of Miami people say, you're really You're really gonna
- 17:11Speaker 8: like this guy. He competes, he's good, solid blocker. And
- 17:14Speaker 8: others say every time he's out there, there's a penalty.
- 17:16Speaker 8: He's a penalty waiting to happen. He can't block anybody.
- 17:19Speaker 7: So I don't know.
- 17:20Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I did.
- 17:21Speaker 4: The PF PFF grades are not kind to him in
- 17:25Speaker 4: terms of his run blocking, but I I think he
- 17:28Speaker 4: can hold down that part of the position. I think
- 17:32Speaker 4: you would like to hope that a draft pick is
- 17:34Speaker 4: coming that's going to give you some more ceiling.
- 17:36Speaker 3: And you guys have talked about the tight end class.
- 17:39Speaker 4: So this guy, you know, Hill, I think you're hoping,
- 17:42Speaker 4: is really going to be like a situation third tight
- 17:44Speaker 4: end and playing on the goal line, playing.
- 17:46Speaker 5: On third and one, you know that sort of thing.
- 17:49Speaker 7: Such a couple of one touchdowns and you get go
- 17:52Speaker 7: out of.
- 17:52Speaker 2: Block for a second and then slip out dump off
- 17:54Speaker 2: past him.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I like that.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I mean it's to me these signings, you know, with
- 17:58Speaker 2: Mike Brown to providing some down.
- 18:00Speaker 7: Mike Brown and kJ Britt who special teamer guys.
- 18:03Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean, and that's this is free agency
- 18:05Speaker 2: to me. Like, I really like what they've done this year.
- 18:07Speaker 2: I still see, you know, a little bit of a
- 18:10Speaker 2: gap at the edge position. Of course we can talk
- 18:12Speaker 2: about Chase on as well who left. But I really
- 18:15Speaker 2: like the tight end just because I feel like it
- 18:17Speaker 2: gives them some flexibility where if you do want to
- 18:20Speaker 2: try to take one of these as athletic guys that
- 18:23Speaker 2: you know he's not going to be an all around
- 18:26Speaker 2: why tight end that's gonna but he's going to be
- 18:28Speaker 2: a guy who can move. Maybe that becomes you know,
- 18:30Speaker 2: and the Aaron Hernandez type, the guy that Josh can
- 18:33Speaker 2: play with and move and there's not the pressure to
- 18:36Speaker 2: have to find a complimentary blocker for Hunter Henry. You
- 18:38Speaker 2: have a guy who's kind of protected. We can pick
- 18:40Speaker 2: our spots with him. So it makes me more excited
- 18:43Speaker 2: about the tight end class in the draft. I didn't
- 18:44Speaker 2: know if they would go for a little bit more
- 18:46Speaker 2: expensive kind of guy and really get that tight end
- 18:49Speaker 2: two spot. Like Paul said, this feels like t E
- 18:51Speaker 2: three to me, with an opportunity to draft somebody that
- 18:53Speaker 2: that maybe could contribute the past.
- 18:54Speaker 3: Speaking of Chase On, he had a very nice post
- 18:57Speaker 3: yesterday thanking everybody in the organization for his time here.
- 19:02Speaker 2: So I was I was shocked by that.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I just I this is his third year.
- 19:06Speaker 3: Was shot.
- 19:06Speaker 2: I was shocked that he signed it. No that he
- 19:08Speaker 2: signed a one year deal or twelve million. I thought
- 19:10Speaker 2: this He's had done it back to back years. He
- 19:13Speaker 2: spoke a lot about wanting to find a home. I
- 19:16Speaker 2: thought he earned himself a lucrative multi year contract with
- 19:20Speaker 2: his playoff run, and then to see him sign another
- 19:23Speaker 2: one year deal, to me, I mean I felt like
- 19:25Speaker 2: the Patriots could have done that if they wanted to.
- 19:27Speaker 2: So to me, it makes it seem like, I don't
- 19:30Speaker 2: know if we I think we said it on the
- 19:31Speaker 2: show where it feels a little bit more like Draymond
- 19:34Speaker 2: Jones is kind of that replacement.
- 19:35Speaker 1: That's him, that's what they want.
- 19:37Speaker 8: And I was a little surprised by I'm with Mike
- 19:39Speaker 8: on this one. I thought that, you know, when they
- 19:42Speaker 8: when I saw they signed Jones, I figured, well, that
- 19:44Speaker 8: means they don't think that they're in the market. But
- 19:48Speaker 8: I mean they gave Jones more money, certainly more guaranteed,
- 19:51Speaker 8: you know, you know, almost double guaranteed. So I was
- 19:57Speaker 8: a little surprised that that, you know, one maybe just
- 20:00Speaker 8: people just start believing still. So he's you know because
- 20:04Speaker 8: one year, twelve million, that's.
- 20:05Speaker 3: A good payday.
- 20:06Speaker 8: Yeah, but it's just like you figured after signing back
- 20:09Speaker 8: to back years for one year, you'd be able to
- 20:11Speaker 8: get a multi year deal.
- 20:12Speaker 2: And last year. Yeah, maybe that's wrong, but I wrote
- 20:20Speaker 2: down one.
- 20:20Speaker 8: I thought it was one in five too, But I
- 20:22Speaker 8: think it might have been like Evan Yes, with the insane.
- 20:25Speaker 5: I think that you know, there.
- 20:29Speaker 4: It seems to me like they just decided that we're
- 20:32Speaker 4: just not really going to overreact to the fact that
- 20:34Speaker 4: we made the Super Bowl because all these moves that
- 20:37Speaker 4: they have made, I feel like moves that they probably
- 20:39Speaker 4: were going to make, whether they made the Super Bowl
- 20:41Speaker 4: or they were had a nice eight and nine season, and.
- 20:44Speaker 5: You know, kind of made it a little bit.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Of progress because with that, you know, they Anthony Jennings
- 20:49Speaker 4: had a great playoff run, they still cut him just
- 20:51Speaker 4: the way that he's been kind of writing on the
- 20:54Speaker 4: wall for going all the way back to training camp
- 20:56Speaker 4: last August, Calevon Chason was here on a one year
- 20:59Speaker 4: deal as a holdover, kind of stop gap type of player.
- 21:03Speaker 4: They didn't over extend and and didn't re sign him.
- 21:06Speaker 4: Uh you know, Garrett Bradberry being kind of a one
- 21:08Speaker 4: and done player, with Jared Wilson moving back to his
- 21:11Speaker 4: regular position at center, like all these things I think
- 21:14Speaker 4: were Jilanie Devai, like Jennings, we knew this was coming.
- 21:18Speaker 4: We knew this was coming here six months and they
- 21:20Speaker 4: did it.
- 21:20Speaker 8: Now, you know, even like a guy like Jack Gibbons,
- 21:23Speaker 8: who I don't I don't close the door on him yet,
- 21:26Speaker 8: but they you know, according to Mike Greece, they did
- 21:29Speaker 8: not offer him an RFA tender, so like you look
- 21:33Speaker 8: at the guy like a kJ Britt, is that like
- 21:36Speaker 8: Jack Gibbons, you know, a guy who they a linebacker
- 21:39Speaker 8: by trade, who's going to play special teams?
- 21:41Speaker 7: Can he fill in in a pinch? You know, I
- 21:43Speaker 7: don't know, he hasn't played a ton.
- 21:45Speaker 2: That's exactly what I was gonna bring on. Sorry Paul,
- 21:47Speaker 2: but you know when Evan said it, and it's I
- 21:49Speaker 2: mean Jack Gibbons, doctor Givey that he's one of those
- 21:51Speaker 2: vable guys, and you would maybe assume that they'd be
- 21:54Speaker 2: attached to him, I think, I mean, and again, like
- 21:56Speaker 2: he could be back. I don't. I don't rule that out,
- 21:59Speaker 2: but I still think that it's a good example of
- 22:01Speaker 2: what Evan's talking about that they didn't, you know, get
- 22:03Speaker 2: too enamored with their guys. They filled in a lot
- 22:05Speaker 2: of holes last year. But to me, it looks like
- 22:08Speaker 2: in season Josh is saying, really wish we had a
- 22:10Speaker 2: blocking tight end. You know, I really wish I had
- 22:12Speaker 2: a real full back right now, you know, like you
- 22:14Speaker 2: see some of the holes that they got into the
- 22:15Speaker 2: season where he's like, I really wish we had X,
- 22:17Speaker 2: Y and Z. Let's get those next.
- 22:19Speaker 8: I see, I can't argue with that. They absolutely fill
- 22:22Speaker 8: very specific holes. They're just not necessarily the ones I
- 22:25Speaker 8: was expecting, right, you know, I think Josh's special, you know,
- 22:29Speaker 8: I think in a large part when you look at
- 22:31Speaker 8: I mean, we can get into semantics and I'm sure
- 22:34Speaker 8: Fred's going to, but I think they're basically a very
- 22:38Speaker 8: similar team.
- 22:40Speaker 7: You know.
- 22:40Speaker 8: I think they had some holes that they had last
- 22:42Speaker 8: year that they don't have now, and they still have
- 22:44Speaker 8: some holes that they had last year that they really
- 22:47Speaker 8: haven't filled. You know, on paper, the offensive line is better,
- 22:52Speaker 8: the wide receiver corps is in my view, roughly the same,
- 22:55Speaker 8: and I felt like they needed to be better going in. So,
- 22:59Speaker 8: you know, I think this a lot of similarities, you know,
- 23:01Speaker 8: in terms of what they are right now. And we'll
- 23:05Speaker 8: see if there's a you know, a bigger move that's
- 23:07Speaker 8: still to be minute.
- 23:08Speaker 2: And I mean just to throw it out, I mean,
- 23:09Speaker 2: we've talked consistently about in AJ call Antonio Brown a
- 23:13Speaker 2: J Brown's contract, that it's prohibitive and that it's very
- 23:16Speaker 2: possible as we were kind of like thrown out that
- 23:18Speaker 2: they might know we're gonna move make a move for him, and.
- 23:21Speaker 8: You know, you wired a receiver who's demonstratively better than
- 23:24Speaker 8: Romeo Dobbs. I think that that makes your wide receiver
- 23:27Speaker 8: room look entirely different, you know, And I don't rule
- 23:30Speaker 8: that out. That's very much on the table.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I just think it's some of these positions that
- 23:34Speaker 4: we're talking about, the you know, edge linebacker, or they
- 23:38Speaker 4: didn't bring back some of their guys. I think a
- 23:40Speaker 4: big part of that to me is like they're planning
- 23:42Speaker 4: on drafting guys at those spots.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and so edge for sure.
- 23:46Speaker 8: So if you your point of they treated it like
- 23:48Speaker 8: they were at eight to nine on the rise.
- 23:50Speaker 4: Right, So like if they brought back Chase On and
- 23:54Speaker 4: they brought back Anthony Jennings, and they brought back to
- 23:57Speaker 4: Vay and they brought back doctor Gibby, they bring back
- 24:00Speaker 4: all these guys, like the rookies are all blocked now
- 24:04Speaker 4: by players that have been in the system, that are
- 24:06Speaker 4: veteran players in the league. So I think a lot
- 24:09Speaker 4: of these positions, you know, I throw tight end in
- 24:11Speaker 4: their safety, you know, with Buyer just being on the
- 24:13Speaker 4: one year deal, like they're kind of opening opportunity so
- 24:18Speaker 4: that when the draft class comes in, you know that
- 24:20Speaker 4: whoever they draft at edge is probably going to be
- 24:22Speaker 4: with one of their first two picks, like that guy
- 24:25Speaker 4: is going to have a runway now to really take
- 24:27Speaker 4: a role and earn it, you know. And same thing
- 24:30Speaker 4: at linebacker, like if you bring back to Vay and
- 24:33Speaker 4: Gibbons and all these linebackers, like if you draft a
- 24:36Speaker 4: linebacker pretty early, you know, now you're you're getting crowded
- 24:40Speaker 4: in that room. And I think that a lot of
- 24:41Speaker 4: these different spots they're trying to pave the way. You know,
- 24:45Speaker 4: safety will sign buyer to a one year deal. They'll
- 24:48Speaker 4: probably draft somebody in the third or fourth round again
- 24:50Speaker 4: like they did with Craig Woodson. Maybe that guy plays
- 24:53Speaker 4: as a third safety as a rookie to get him
- 24:55Speaker 4: on the field, and then you know, in twenty twenty seven,
- 24:58Speaker 4: he's your starting safety with Craig woods and that's the yeah, obviously,
- 25:01Speaker 4: you know. So I think that's true at a lot
- 25:04Speaker 4: of these different spots, is they're kind of trying to
- 25:07Speaker 4: keep spots open for these rookies to earn roles so
- 25:10Speaker 4: that they're not all just kind of sitting way.
- 25:12Speaker 3: So I would say at this point in March, Patriots
- 25:14Speaker 3: are better than they were last year. I would not
- 25:17Speaker 3: say that, but I would not.
- 25:19Speaker 2: I think they've had a really solid free agency. I
- 25:21Speaker 2: mean I think that the trajectory for me is always.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Because I'm also factoring in Drake's improvement.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, they still have needs. There's no question.
- 25:29Speaker 3: If here then they won't be But I don't think
- 25:32Speaker 3: he will.
- 25:35Speaker 7: Why don't I'm going to quarterbacks worse?
- 25:37Speaker 1: Will they be worse?
- 25:39Speaker 7: I'm going to do it like everybody else does.
- 25:40Speaker 8: I'm going to assess, like all the players that they
- 25:42Speaker 8: already had as being constance, like if they all get
- 25:46Speaker 8: better from last year.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Of course that I didn't say, Oh, I said, Drake will.
- 25:50Speaker 5: Okay better than the MVP runner un Yeah, I mean I.
- 25:53Speaker 7: Guess you could win.
- 25:54Speaker 3: What I'm saying, Oh, you don't think there's room for improvement? Yes, right,
- 25:57Speaker 3: of course. Of course, of course you don't think he will.
- 26:01Speaker 7: I don't.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Wow.
- 26:02Speaker 8: I think I think he had a tremendous season, and
- 26:05Speaker 8: I don't think he's going to be much better next year.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Wow.
- 26:07Speaker 7: I think he might get a similar season.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Okay, hold that take everyone.
- 26:11Speaker 7: I mean, I think he can be the runner up
- 26:12Speaker 7: in the MVP again.
- 26:14Speaker 4: I same, I don't think it has Like my saying
- 26:17Speaker 4: that they're a little bit worse right now. Is something
- 26:19Speaker 4: to do with Drake. I just think wide receiver. I'm
- 26:21Speaker 4: not ready to say that Romeo Dobbs is as good
- 26:23Speaker 4: as Stefan Diggs.
- 26:25Speaker 5: I'm just he's just never done it yet.
- 26:27Speaker 7: Say it's a projection, absolutely.
- 26:28Speaker 4: You know with you, but Diggs just had a thousand
- 26:31Speaker 4: yard season coming off of torn acl it. Dobbs has
- 26:35Speaker 4: never been over seven and fifty yards in his career.
- 26:37Speaker 4: So before we start to put him in four time
- 26:40Speaker 4: Pro Bowl or Stefan Diggs's you know level, let's let
- 26:44Speaker 4: him prove it first. And the edge rusher position is
- 26:47Speaker 4: still a big concern in my opinion. I just they
- 26:50Speaker 4: don't have enough there. I like Draymond Jones. I think
- 26:53Speaker 4: he's a fine player, but you don't know what you're
- 26:55Speaker 4: getting out of Harold Landry at this stage. Elijah Ponder
- 26:59Speaker 4: in a in Swinson. Ponder had some moments, had some flashes.
- 27:03Speaker 3: But it really didn't get a lot out of Landry
- 27:05Speaker 3: last year either.
- 27:06Speaker 5: Well, he played the whole season until the end.
- 27:08Speaker 4: But you know what I'm saying, barely Yeah, I guess,
- 27:11Speaker 4: but I I don't even know if Landry's going to
- 27:13Speaker 4: be available, like he was out there last year. Like
- 27:16Speaker 4: his his decline obviously you know, is right with the
- 27:18Speaker 4: knee injury, but like he played snaps for you last
- 27:22Speaker 4: year in the first six weeks of the season, he
- 27:23Speaker 4: was really good, you know.
- 27:25Speaker 5: So I just I don't know. I think that they
- 27:28Speaker 5: have a long way to go at that spot.
- 27:30Speaker 8: I'm just going off of like the offseason, like guys
- 27:33Speaker 8: they brought in as opposed to the guys that are
- 27:36Speaker 8: going out, I think is about a wash. I think
- 27:38Speaker 8: it's very similar like Chase on in Jones to me,
- 27:41Speaker 8: is like the poster of that. Like I think you
- 27:45Speaker 8: had a guy who had a very specific skill set
- 27:47Speaker 8: and you signed a guy with a very specific skill
- 27:49Speaker 8: set to kind of replace.
- 27:50Speaker 3: What about the outlook for the offensive line.
- 27:52Speaker 8: I think I think that they should be better if
- 27:55Speaker 8: he plays. If he continues to play forty three, if
- 27:57Speaker 8: a possible eighty five games, then he can.
- 28:00Speaker 3: If the sun comes up, we'll have another day tomorrow. Okay.
- 28:02Speaker 7: I think the offensive line is better.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Okay, thank you.
- 28:06Speaker 5: I just think that they have a lot of this.
- 28:07Speaker 8: But if he doesn't play, it ain't bad, of course,
- 28:09Speaker 8: not where we're having He generally doesn't play so I'm
- 28:12Speaker 8: going off of history program.
- 28:14Speaker 4: It's just a lot of the same things that we're
- 28:16Speaker 4: still talking about. They're still talking about them needing high
- 28:18Speaker 4: end talent and wide receiver. We're still talking about them
- 28:21Speaker 4: needing a high end pass rusher. Like these things could
- 28:25Speaker 4: be addressed, but until they are, I think that it's
- 28:29Speaker 4: if they're better, it's marginal. I mean, I just I
- 28:33Speaker 4: look at those two spots as those are the impact players,
- 28:36Speaker 4: and what.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Should be the expectations should you expect at the end
- 28:38Speaker 2: of free agency every year that you feel like the
- 28:40Speaker 2: team is absolutely improved significantly from I think I think
- 28:44Speaker 2: that's the hope.
- 28:45Speaker 3: You know, Yeah, I don't know if you know. It
- 28:48Speaker 3: doesn't always.
- 28:49Speaker 7: It definitely doesn't always happen that way, but hope.
- 28:52Speaker 2: I mean, I agree completely about the edge. You guys know,
- 28:54Speaker 2: I've been hitting that since like last year when I
- 28:56Speaker 2: said that this was going to be need. But I
- 28:58Speaker 2: think generally this is how you have to operate when
- 29:01Speaker 2: you're a team in free agency and you fill your
- 29:04Speaker 2: holes and then there's some solid guys and there's some
- 29:06Speaker 2: swings on some injury guys, but ultimately it's gonna come
- 29:09Speaker 2: down to the draft and drafting well and getting another
- 29:11Speaker 2: you know, round of three four players that hopefully come
- 29:13Speaker 2: in and those are the guys that you're going to
- 29:16Speaker 2: build around. So I other than the edge position right now,
- 29:18Speaker 2: I feel I feel really good about what they've done.
- 29:20Speaker 2: I just I don't know what more you could ask
- 29:23Speaker 2: other than force Alec Pearce to go hit free agency
- 29:27Speaker 2: so you can try to get them, you know, and
- 29:28Speaker 2: maybe they're still going for Brown too. So, but where
- 29:31Speaker 2: we sit right now, four days into free agency and
- 29:34Speaker 2: one day into real the new league gear, I feel
- 29:36Speaker 2: pretty good about where they've.
- 29:37Speaker 7: Gotten better in spots.
- 29:38Speaker 8: I think Buyer it's better than Hawkins, and I think
- 29:40Speaker 8: Vera Tucker's better than Bradbury.
- 29:42Speaker 7: I think those are spots that they've improved on.
- 29:45Speaker 2: But you do have to count on these guys to improve,
- 29:47Speaker 2: Like you do have to say, sure, you guys have
- 29:50Speaker 2: to get better next year. I mean, you can't.
- 29:51Speaker 1: It's not going to be good enough.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Next year with how the rookie's played, especially a guy
- 29:55Speaker 2: like Craig Woodson.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I love having buyered in and that experience.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Now he gets, you know, for starter veteran safety that
- 30:01Speaker 2: knows everything about the system, he's gonna make you know,
- 30:04Speaker 2: he needs to be better. They got to fill some
- 30:06Speaker 2: depth in some spots for sure. But Will Campbell, Jared Wilson,
- 30:09Speaker 2: Drake May, Williams, I'm optimistic, you know, I'm optimistic.
- 30:14Speaker 4: I just like I expect those guys to be good
- 30:17Speaker 4: like they played well last year. I don't expect there
- 30:20Speaker 4: to be like a major drop off where now it's like,
- 30:22Speaker 4: oh man, you know, Kreik Woodson's not an NFL player, Like, No,
- 30:25Speaker 4: Kraig Woodson is a good player. You know, we saw
- 30:28Speaker 4: it with our own eyes. You know, Drake May is
- 30:30Speaker 4: going to be a very good quarterback for a very
- 30:32Speaker 4: long time. Yeah, like that, whether he there's rooms for
- 30:36Speaker 4: him to improve Diffred's point or not. Like he's going
- 30:39Speaker 4: to be elite for a very long time. They they
- 30:42Speaker 4: need to supplement all that with a little bit more so,
- 30:44Speaker 4: all right.
- 30:44Speaker 3: So we'll talk about it with you. Are the Patriots
- 30:47Speaker 3: on paper going to be better than they were last year?
- 30:50Speaker 3: I don't know record wise if that means, but I
- 30:52Speaker 3: mean as a better team.
- 30:53Speaker 8: And I would just say, this is why I brought
- 30:54Speaker 8: up the whole semantic thing, because I think if I
- 30:57Speaker 8: would expect the team to be better because of all
- 31:00Speaker 8: the guys that were here that generally you expect to
- 31:04Speaker 8: make a year two jump. I'm asking about free agency,
- 31:09Speaker 8: Like that's not the same thing. Like I just you know,
- 31:11Speaker 8: like did they did they acquire more than they lost?
- 31:14Speaker 8: They'd say it's about a watch.
- 31:15Speaker 3: Did they make their team better to freeze? That's not
- 31:17Speaker 3: a good question.
- 31:18Speaker 8: Those are two different talk about like do I expect
- 31:20Speaker 8: Craig Woodson and trevy On Henderson and most certainly Will
- 31:25Speaker 8: Campbell and Jared Wilson, who I don't think played all
- 31:27Speaker 8: that great? Do I expect them to be better in
- 31:29Speaker 8: year two?
- 31:29Speaker 3: Yes?
- 31:30Speaker 8: That's I mean, that's why you're here, like to improve
- 31:33Speaker 8: from your rookie year to your guys the limit that
- 31:36Speaker 8: should make you better.
- 31:37Speaker 2: That's just the question of where we seeing ceilings or floors,
- 31:40Speaker 2: you know, and that and where in between are we
- 31:42Speaker 2: And you know, how high is Craig Woodson's ceiling, how
- 31:45Speaker 2: high is Will Campbell's ceiling really at left tackle or
- 31:48Speaker 2: wherever he.
- 31:49Speaker 1: May end up?
- 31:49Speaker 2: And what's Jared Wilson look like at center? Is that
- 31:52Speaker 2: you know the easy slide in for Garrett Bradbury and
- 31:55Speaker 2: you know there's no drop off or is there a
- 31:57Speaker 2: learning curve with him at center next year to a
- 31:59Speaker 2: little bit.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Andrew in Westchester, New York says, just saw the trailer
- 32:02Speaker 3: for the new episode of Forge of Foxboro. I have
- 32:05Speaker 3: to say it has me pumped up for the new season.
- 32:07Speaker 3: The production quality of the series continues to be outstanding.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Kudos to the content team for putting up such great work. PS.
- 32:14Speaker 3: What are the chances that we will get an inside
- 32:16Speaker 3: look at the new facility at some point in the
- 32:18Speaker 3: off season. Be cool to get a look at that.
- 32:20Speaker 3: I can guarantee you that at some point we'll have
- 32:23Speaker 3: some sort of tour and look inside the facility. I
- 32:26Speaker 3: can tell you one thing. I was in yesterday, just
- 32:30Speaker 3: happy to be in there. And if I'm a player,
- 32:33Speaker 3: I'm excited. You know, there's some cool I mean, the
- 32:36Speaker 3: locker room itself is huge. It's huge, so big that
- 32:41Speaker 3: you don't even have to add anything for preseason for
- 32:44Speaker 3: the extra players. Really yeah, oh yeah.
- 32:45Speaker 4: That's good because they they had to put those things
- 32:49Speaker 4: in lockers in the middle. That like back to high school,
- 32:52Speaker 4: where you have like these modular lockers in the middle
- 32:54Speaker 4: of the locker room.
- 32:55Speaker 3: And now you know, we'll have we'll have sneak peaks,
- 32:59Speaker 3: you know, I don't know if there's sneak peaks, but
- 33:00Speaker 3: we'll have looks at the new facility and it's really
- 33:05Speaker 3: it's really, really good.
- 33:06Speaker 5: We have a lot of moving trucks around taking football
- 33:09Speaker 5: down there.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Yeah, they're moving out. Players are back in the building
- 33:13Speaker 3: April twentieth, and that's the building they'll be in. They're
- 33:17Speaker 3: not coming back to the stadium, they're coming back to
- 33:19Speaker 3: the new building. So very excited about that, and excited
- 33:22Speaker 3: about Forge and Foxborough will be coming out soon, so
- 33:25Speaker 3: stay tuned for that. All right, Let's get to the phones.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Eight five to five Pats five hundred. A lot to
- 33:31Speaker 3: digest here, all the Patriots free agent signings. It's not
- 33:35Speaker 3: over yet. We'll see what else they have in store,
- 33:38Speaker 3: but most of these guys are in the building right
- 33:40Speaker 3: now and getting a look at the stadium and meeting people.
- 33:44Speaker 8: I believe seven of those eight will be available. kJ
- 33:48Speaker 8: Britt I think is the only one part of that group.
- 33:51Speaker 4: Yeah, seven of them are just officially renounced at this
- 33:54Speaker 4: sign the contracts Dobbs, Jones, Vera, Tucker Bayern, Gilliam Hill Brown.
- 33:59Speaker 3: Yeah sounds good. All right, let's start with HERM and
- 34:02Speaker 3: DC what's up herm fellas?
- 34:09Speaker 9: Uh, two good questions offer the question.
- 34:11Speaker 10: And a draft question.
- 34:12Speaker 9: So is there a world where the Patriots basically nix
- 34:21Speaker 9: the plans about Adrian Brown and pretty much goes to
- 34:27Speaker 9: KH and Booty is like, listen, we're just gonna w
- 34:30Speaker 9: targets and it's gonna be a thousand thousand yard receiver
- 34:32Speaker 9: right there right again, going back to Coach Rail's point
- 34:38Speaker 9: getting youngest, seper, fastest.
- 34:40Speaker 6: Yes, obviously Brown's better in case of body. But if
- 34:43Speaker 6: you just in theorior double his target, that's your thousand
- 34:48Speaker 6: yd receiver right there, right. And then the second question
- 34:51Speaker 6: was about tied into the draft. I'm a big sim
- 34:57Speaker 6: Rouse guy, but I was wondering what your thought are
- 35:00Speaker 6: on this guy from Notre Dame Elian. I think.
- 35:07Speaker 9: I think he has the lowest drop right in the country.
- 35:12Speaker 6: Question take thank you?
- 35:14Speaker 3: Okay, thanks?
- 35:15Speaker 2: He tore his ACL twice.
- 35:17Speaker 4: Always got back around, always got one Notre damn tight
- 35:20Speaker 4: end to talk about. It's like they're like a factory there.
- 35:23Speaker 4: Roush is a really intriguing prospect. He's really raw, you know,
- 35:26Speaker 4: especially as a route runner. Uh, just doesn't you know
- 35:30Speaker 4: at the top of the route, drifts a little bit,
- 35:32Speaker 4: you know, drifts into contact things that he's going to
- 35:34Speaker 4: have to really improve on.
- 35:36Speaker 5: But he's huge and he can run. I mean, he's
- 35:38Speaker 5: a great athlete.
- 35:40Speaker 4: He's like two hundred and sixty five pounds and he
- 35:43Speaker 4: tested through the roof at the combine at that size.
- 35:46Speaker 4: Uh So I actually think that, you know, he could
- 35:48Speaker 4: probably lose a couple of pounds and get into a
- 35:50Speaker 4: little bit better playing weight to be a little bit
- 35:53Speaker 4: more dynamic than he even already is. So you see
- 35:55Speaker 4: this movement like it just him running across the field
- 35:58Speaker 4: and things like that. He can really build up speed,
- 36:01Speaker 4: but he's pretty raw. The Notre Dame tight end, I
- 36:04Speaker 4: don't think he had a ton of receiving production, if
- 36:06Speaker 4: I'm not mistaken. You know, another one of these classic
- 36:10Speaker 4: Notre Dame tight ends though, where they just print them
- 36:12Speaker 4: out where they they look at the exact part, you know,
- 36:14Speaker 4: Michael Mayer cole kmet like it's like, oh, another you know,
- 36:18Speaker 4: big Notre Dame tight end. Shocking, But I think, you know,
- 36:22Speaker 4: like Deuce was saying, he's had some some bumps in
- 36:24Speaker 4: the road.
- 36:24Speaker 3: There, Speed writes in Fresno. He says, Fred you're bonkers.
- 36:29Speaker 3: I just can't believe you're so definitive that Drake will
- 36:32Speaker 3: be better next season. As far as the options whether
- 36:34Speaker 3: he'll be better, worse, or the same, I think worse
- 36:37Speaker 3: is most likely followed by same than best. With the
- 36:40Speaker 3: hardest schedule and coming off of decline and loss of
- 36:43Speaker 3: confidence injury at the end of the season. It's t
- 36:45Speaker 3: bow time. I'm exaggerating, but regression to the mean is
- 36:49Speaker 3: a thing. While I'm overall optimistic about Drake, I'm probably
- 36:53Speaker 3: more pessimistic than most as to whether his game will
- 36:56Speaker 3: be reliably winning in the big moments, given its relyants
- 37:00Speaker 3: on extremely fun but high difficulty, low probability shots downfield.
- 37:07Speaker 8: I mean, I don't necessarily think the highest probability is
- 37:11Speaker 8: that he's going to regress. I just think he played
- 37:13Speaker 8: an exceptionally high level, so I'm not going to pencil
- 37:15Speaker 8: in then he's going to be.
- 37:16Speaker 7: Better than that.
- 37:18Speaker 8: That's like I think it's probably another semantic thing that
- 37:21Speaker 8: I'm guilty of this time, is I think you'll play
- 37:25Speaker 8: well next year.
- 37:26Speaker 7: I expect him to play well. I think he's a
- 37:27Speaker 7: franchise quarterback.
- 37:28Speaker 8: I think he's one of the I don't know whatever
- 37:30Speaker 8: you want to call it, top five, you know, maybe
- 37:33Speaker 8: top seven if you want to, you know, give some
- 37:35Speaker 8: other guys some leeway. But I just think he played
- 37:39Speaker 8: at such a high level last year it's going to
- 37:40Speaker 8: be hard to to exceed that. So I'm not expecting
- 37:44Speaker 8: him to.
- 37:44Speaker 5: I feel like this is a very semantical artist.
- 37:47Speaker 7: I'm guilty.
- 37:49Speaker 5: Drake May is elite. He is going to be elite.
- 37:51Speaker 5: What level of elite?
- 37:52Speaker 4: Is he the best quarterback in the league or is
- 37:54Speaker 4: he the seventh best quarterback in the league? Like, I
- 37:57Speaker 4: guess we'll find out next year once he starts playing,
- 37:59Speaker 4: But he's going to be.
- 38:00Speaker 5: A lead, like I don't I don't think so.
- 38:02Speaker 7: I don't expect him to have a bad yea.
- 38:03Speaker 3: So where I think obviously he needs to improve is
- 38:06Speaker 3: how does he handle the better defenses?
- 38:09Speaker 2: Yeah, that's I mean, that's where and that's where we're
- 38:10Speaker 2: going to get the semantics argument of yeah, his statistically
- 38:14Speaker 2: having a worse year, but he's playing better defenses. You know,
- 38:17Speaker 2: they're playing he's you know, he might even be playing better,
- 38:20Speaker 2: but his stats are worse and their teams record is
- 38:23Speaker 2: worth you know, Like those are the strings you're going
- 38:25Speaker 2: to have to pull out, you know.
- 38:27Speaker 3: So we're going to judge it by how he's playing,
- 38:30Speaker 3: you know, based on the situation.
- 38:33Speaker 4: He's got to go have that kind of ability and
- 38:35Speaker 4: all of a sudden fall off a cliff. It just
- 38:37Speaker 4: doesn't really happen very often. That Like, he puts together
- 38:41Speaker 4: a season like he did last year, and now we're
- 38:43Speaker 4: just supposed to think that he could possibly regress back
- 38:46Speaker 4: to like North Carolina Drake where he's just like, yeah,
- 38:50Speaker 4: you know, very inconsistent and only flashing and things like.
- 38:53Speaker 4: I don't know, I just have a tough time imagining
- 38:55Speaker 4: that the it's the ground is going to fall out
- 38:57Speaker 4: from underneath him.
- 38:59Speaker 7: No, what I mean, I don't envision that.
- 39:01Speaker 2: I mean, I would say the coaching staff is hoping
- 39:03Speaker 2: that he takes a leap in the second year in
- 39:05Speaker 2: the offense. You know that now the complex system that's
- 39:08Speaker 2: so much on him that now he has a lot
- 39:10Speaker 2: of experience in those games. He has experienced in the playoffs.
- 39:13Speaker 2: But it's going to be great to see him going
- 39:14Speaker 2: to Seattle and see how he deals with all that again.
- 39:16Speaker 2: I mean, it's you know, that's gonna be.
- 39:18Speaker 1: A really big challenge for him.
- 39:19Speaker 2: Absolutely, I mean I think he rematch though.
- 39:22Speaker 5: I think he graduated last year.
- 39:24Speaker 4: He's got his bachelor's degree in the Josh McDaniels offense,
- 39:27Speaker 4: and now can he go and get a graduate degree
- 39:29Speaker 4: in it? Is what they're hoping is that he's you know,
- 39:32Speaker 4: we kind of got the baseline foundation laid last year.
- 39:35Speaker 4: I think a lot of these things that we're talking about,
- 39:37Speaker 4: it's all the same stuff. Like last year was only
- 39:39Speaker 4: supposed to be the first year. They just happened to
- 39:41Speaker 4: win fourteen games and go to the super Bowl. And
- 39:44Speaker 4: now I think that they're starting from a much higher
- 39:46Speaker 4: point where they're hoping that he's already kind of got
- 39:48Speaker 4: the basics of what we're trying to do down and
- 39:50Speaker 4: now we can kind of push him to get to
- 39:52Speaker 4: that next level.
- 39:53Speaker 3: Yeah, Anthony says, why are we convinced Dobbs is as
- 39:56Speaker 3: good as he'll be? He was in a position in
- 39:59Speaker 3: Green Bay that I feel he may not have been
- 40:01Speaker 3: given as much volume as we can provide here. I
- 40:04Speaker 3: think he's an ascending player, not yet at a ceiling.
- 40:07Speaker 3: That's not to say I think he'll be a top
- 40:08Speaker 3: wide receiver. But why are we so convinced he can't improve?
- 40:12Speaker 2: We're not.
- 40:13Speaker 8: I just said, it's exactly the opposite. If you listen
- 40:15Speaker 8: to the first fifteen minutes of the show.
- 40:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, no, I mean this.
- 40:19Speaker 2: I mean it seems like this offense gonna be tailored
- 40:21Speaker 2: to him. They're gonna move them around. I mean, they're
- 40:22Speaker 2: gonna find ways to get him the ball. Aside from
- 40:25Speaker 2: his skill set, though.
- 40:26Speaker 8: The only thing I would say is, I think he's
- 40:27Speaker 8: going to an offense that's very similar. It's not run
- 40:30Speaker 8: the same way, but the mentality is very similar to
- 40:33Speaker 8: what he was in. Josh doesn't believe in just one guy.
- 40:37Speaker 8: He doesn't like not that he doesn't believe, he doesn't
- 40:39Speaker 8: like it, he doesn't like to do it that way.
- 40:42Speaker 8: He and Dobbs has been in an offense that they
- 40:44Speaker 8: sort of spread it around. Do you think that that's
- 40:46Speaker 8: from I think that's what he's going to be in here.
- 40:49Speaker 3: Do you think that's from, you know, his time. Josh's
- 40:52Speaker 3: doesn't like, you know, just having one guy. His time
- 40:55Speaker 3: with Belichick, where Belichick would go into a game and
- 40:58Speaker 3: if a team had that one guy, whether it's on
- 41:01Speaker 3: offense or defense, he always came up with good plans
- 41:04Speaker 3: to take that guy out.
- 41:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I just think you always want talent,
- 41:10Speaker 2: and you know it's he doesn't want a great right,
- 41:12Speaker 2: I think he does. It's just you know, he was
- 41:14Speaker 2: able to make it go.
- 41:15Speaker 3: He want balance.
- 41:16Speaker 8: It's like, yeah, you know, when they had Welker and Moss,
- 41:19Speaker 8: those guys clearly had it, but they didn't have anybody else,
- 41:23Speaker 8: you know, until Gronk came and then they sort of
- 41:26Speaker 8: you know, adapted. But I do think that there's probably
- 41:30Speaker 8: some truth to that. Fred is that Bill always felt
- 41:34Speaker 8: like if you only have one thing, you know, but
- 41:36Speaker 8: no one suggesting that they only have one thing they like,
- 41:39Speaker 8: like Diggs last year wasn't the only thing.
- 41:41Speaker 7: He just was the main target. I just.
- 41:49Speaker 8: In year five, like, are you going to see like
- 41:52Speaker 8: a you know, a totally different player.
- 41:54Speaker 7: I'm not going to expect that.
- 41:56Speaker 8: I'm going to, you know, maybe expect him to get
- 41:58Speaker 8: more opportunities here. But the other part of his numbers
- 42:01Speaker 8: in Green Bay, he always miss his games. He's a
- 42:04Speaker 8: guy that misses a game or two here or there.
- 42:06Speaker 11: All.
- 42:06Speaker 8: I think he's missed nine games in four years. So
- 42:09Speaker 8: if he continues to miss games, his numbers will continue
- 42:12Speaker 8: to be okay. If he plays all seventeen and he
- 42:16Speaker 8: clicks in the offense, I expect his numbers to rise
- 42:19Speaker 8: because I think he has the skill set that Evan
- 42:21Speaker 8: and Mike talked about right off the top, and I'm
- 42:24Speaker 8: sorry that they email and missed this, but you guys
- 42:26Speaker 8: went to great lengths to say how the versatility of
- 42:30Speaker 8: his route running, his strong hands, his good size, he's
- 42:35Speaker 8: on paper projects to be a really good fit in
- 42:36Speaker 8: this offense.
- 42:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 42:38Speaker 4: I think you just always want to have balance, and
- 42:40Speaker 4: we all, like we talk about balances a lot with
- 42:42Speaker 4: run pass balance, but like it's also just where are
- 42:45Speaker 4: you attacking on the field, And if you're attacking the
- 42:47Speaker 4: same area over and over again at the field, defenses
- 42:50Speaker 4: are too smart, they're too good. They're going to figure out,
- 42:53Speaker 4: you know, he can only he really wants to throw
- 42:55Speaker 4: the ball in the middle of the field, So we're
- 42:56Speaker 4: going to flood the middle of the field.
- 42:58Speaker 5: We're going to force the ball to go elsewhere.
- 43:00Speaker 4: The best offenses have balance, they have the ability to
- 43:02Speaker 4: throw it anywhere on you at any time. And I
- 43:05Speaker 4: think that that's what Josh McDaniels tries to strive forwards.
- 43:08Speaker 4: It's not necessarily about volume per one guy, It's that
- 43:12Speaker 4: we don't want to be a one trick pony. We
- 43:14Speaker 4: don't want to be a team that can only throw
- 43:16Speaker 4: over the middte.
- 43:17Speaker 3: To keep the d on its heels. Yep, we need
- 43:20Speaker 3: to dictate, not them. Rick and Riverside, Rhode Island. His
- 43:26Speaker 3: email kinds of sparked a question for me that I'll
- 43:29Speaker 3: get to, but he says, do the new additions have
- 43:31Speaker 3: the traits off the field Rabel looks for when building
- 43:34Speaker 3: team culture? The twenty five team was a family. Do
- 43:37Speaker 3: any of the new players have anything about them that
- 43:39Speaker 3: could disrupt the locker room? And so the question I
- 43:42Speaker 3: would add to that is who are the existing players
- 43:45Speaker 3: in the team they're going to carry that culture forward
- 43:48Speaker 3: this year?
- 43:49Speaker 1: Morgan, Moses, Moses, Plaine Bayer.
- 43:52Speaker 2: It will probably be as a player, you know, but
- 43:56Speaker 2: it's also up to Drake, I think, to step up
- 43:58Speaker 2: and to be more demanding on offense, to you know,
- 44:01Speaker 2: hold those guys to a standard.
- 44:03Speaker 1: But I don't know, I don't know enough.
- 44:04Speaker 2: I mean, I only Pop's the only when I really
- 44:06Speaker 2: kind of got into just some of his interuriwers just
- 44:08Speaker 2: to see kind of what his personality is like. And
- 44:10Speaker 2: he seems more quiet, Like I said, earlier, so I know,
- 44:14Speaker 2: nothing red flag to me. It also seems like everybody
- 44:16Speaker 2: loves Reggie Gilliam, Like the Buffalo guys are just like
- 44:19Speaker 2: everybody talking about him completely.
- 44:20Speaker 8: And I don't know anything bad off field about any
- 44:23Speaker 8: of these eight guys that they signed. I would just
- 44:26Speaker 8: say that I would caution against the the familylike atmosphere
- 44:34Speaker 8: they had last year. That's twenty twenty five. Don't automatically
- 44:38Speaker 8: assume that that carries over into twenty six because every
- 44:42Speaker 8: team has has to create an identity and come together and.
- 44:47Speaker 5: All that so winning like crazy.
- 44:48Speaker 1: Yeah, he's building on it, right, But I think that not.
- 44:52Speaker 4: To dismiss the email or the question, but as long
- 44:56Speaker 4: as Mike Rabel is here, I have no worries about
- 44:58Speaker 4: the culture of this team. Now, maybe it's not going
- 45:01Speaker 4: to feel or look exactly the same as the twenty
- 45:03Speaker 4: five team, but the guys setting the culture is the
- 45:06Speaker 4: head coach, and I like whether it's you know, Digs, Yeah,
- 45:10Speaker 4: it was. It was a big part of it. He
- 45:12Speaker 4: was a big part of it, for sure.
- 45:13Speaker 7: But I don't know.
- 45:14Speaker 8: I don't necessarily worry about Diggs leaving and then that
- 45:17Speaker 8: falling apart. I just think your first point is the
- 45:19Speaker 8: one that about the Winningstely. Yeah, but Rabel had problems
- 45:23Speaker 8: with culture when it wasn't going so well. And Rabel's
- 45:26Speaker 8: the same guy like when it when it went bad
- 45:28Speaker 8: in Tennessee, the culture went bad with it because it's
- 45:31Speaker 8: hard to have great culture.
- 45:32Speaker 7: When you're not winning.
- 45:32Speaker 3: I think Rabel's also a better coach now than he was.
- 45:34Speaker 4: That they were all making some weird, weird decisions upstairs
- 45:38Speaker 4: when things were gone.
- 45:39Speaker 3: I just that's why I said, I think, yes, we
- 45:42Speaker 3: will see. That's what I think. We're here to give opinions.
- 45:46Speaker 7: I mean, I thought he was a great coach in Tennessee.
- 45:49Speaker 3: I did you don't think coaches get better they learn?
- 45:54Speaker 7: I mean, I guess I don't know.
- 45:55Speaker 5: But don't you think some of the things that happened
- 45:57Speaker 5: with me?
- 45:57Speaker 8: I asked him and he said no, But I mean
- 45:59Speaker 8: that's might be him being modest.
- 46:01Speaker 4: Don't you think some of the things that happened to
- 46:02Speaker 4: him in Tennessee though we were personal control?
- 46:06Speaker 5: Yeah, they were. They were, you know, trading A J.
- 46:08Speaker 7: Browne.
- 46:09Speaker 8: That's my favorite. It was head coach didn't know about it?
- 46:12Speaker 8: And say didn't know about it?
- 46:13Speaker 4: I just says, I just said that maybe he wasn't
- 46:15Speaker 4: in favor of it, who knows, certainly didn't look like
- 46:18Speaker 4: it maybe okay, but or like them him wanting to
- 46:22Speaker 4: promote Ryan Cowden to the general manner position and the
- 46:24Speaker 4: owner deciding to hire somebody from the outside that he
- 46:27Speaker 4: had no relationship with.
- 46:28Speaker 7: Like that, one I would say was tough.
- 46:30Speaker 4: You know, like there's just a lot of things that
- 46:32Speaker 4: I think contributed to it, that were of.
- 46:35Speaker 7: Those things happened here.
- 46:36Speaker 3: I don't like.
- 46:36Speaker 8: That's all I'm saying is I think your first point
- 46:39Speaker 8: is the only one that really matters.
- 46:41Speaker 2: Yeah, of course, if if if you went here, because
- 46:44Speaker 2: the we're able to is you know, that's some.
- 46:46Speaker 3: Guys we've become, at.
- 46:49Speaker 5: Least for former Tennessee Titans.
- 46:50Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 46:51Speaker 2: Just you know, one more thing I just want to
- 46:52Speaker 2: highlight because I came across this. Tydn wrote a whole
- 46:54Speaker 2: story about Julian Hill. Really interesting background just from him
- 46:58Speaker 2: that he lived in severe poverty and homelessness in North Carolina,
- 47:03Speaker 2: justin just Tye Dunn wrote it for the go along
- 47:09Speaker 2: Tyler du Sorry, he's a football writer. He's a football writer,
- 47:14Speaker 2: but uh.
- 47:15Speaker 3: Really interesting you were before you were.
- 47:18Speaker 2: Really really interesting story though you like that, you like
- 47:21Speaker 2: that you got me back. So he's got a passion
- 47:24Speaker 2: for for foster care and those kind of things. So
- 47:26Speaker 2: just you know, off the field, interesting story there. I'm sorry,
- 47:30Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Verble Coach of the Year toture. We'll go to break
- 47:35Speaker 3: with this femail, Perilla. Don't get me.
- 47:40Speaker 7: That's all good now because I didn't say that.
- 47:42Speaker 8: I said Evans first point to me is the one
- 47:44Speaker 8: that's most important.
- 47:45Speaker 3: And you've heard, you know, and I agree.
- 47:48Speaker 2: With it's great.
- 47:49Speaker 5: It's great when everything, everybody is great.
- 47:51Speaker 2: When you're winning everything you're winning, and it's hard to
- 47:54Speaker 2: keep it together. Is this is another point I wanted
- 47:56Speaker 2: to bring up, guys, is uh, I get back to
- 47:58Speaker 2: the Tom and Bill thing and you know gives Brady
- 48:00Speaker 2: the credit, you know, I just I think it's gonna
- 48:02Speaker 2: be really interesting what happens now with Lamar Jackson and
- 48:05Speaker 2: Josh Allen as two quarterbacks that look not on the
- 48:08Speaker 2: level of Tom Brady. But let's see how it looks
- 48:10Speaker 2: with new head coaches. You know, you know, we can
- 48:12Speaker 2: say Tom Brady was great and it didn't matter, but
- 48:15Speaker 2: are these guys going to be affected by a regime
- 48:17Speaker 2: change now? This is you know, multiple MVP winners. Yeh,
- 48:21Speaker 2: how does it go with these guys? That's curious the
- 48:24Speaker 2: path of the Super Bowl. We'll just do this email,
- 48:27Speaker 2: then we'll go to break. Let this one marinate. I
- 48:30Speaker 2: said there was a comment early this is Jack where
- 48:33Speaker 2: is he from? Doesn't say no, There was.
- 48:35Speaker 3: A comment made earlier in the show that you all
- 48:38Speaker 3: don't know if we are better team than we were
- 48:40Speaker 3: last March. Well that wasn't exactly what we said, but anyway,
- 48:45Speaker 3: that's insane. Drake is finally getting continuity at play caller
- 48:49Speaker 3: for the first time in his career. The offensive line
- 48:51Speaker 3: and specifically the run game should be much improved with
- 48:53Speaker 3: a rearranging and edition of an all Pro caliber fullback.
- 48:57Speaker 3: I don't know about that. The aj Brown trade will
- 49:00Speaker 3: post June first, and Dobbs is as efficient and younger
- 49:03Speaker 3: than Diggs. The secondary is now top five with the
- 49:06Speaker 3: addition to Bayern. Edge still needs work, but I trust
- 49:10Speaker 3: in the development ability of these coaches. Absolutely. No one
- 49:12Speaker 3: was thrilled at the Chase on signing last year, and
- 49:14Speaker 3: now look how fans view him. Not saying we're going
- 49:17Speaker 3: back to the Super Bowl, but geez to say the
- 49:19Speaker 3: team isn't approved from this time last year is insane.
- 49:22Speaker 4: Well, if everything works out exactly like the email are
- 49:24Speaker 4: laid out, and we trade for A J.
- 49:26Speaker 5: Brown, then yes, I agree.
- 49:28Speaker 3: I wasn't saying that, So I'm gonna the largest piece
- 49:32Speaker 3: of that analysis was something that hasn't happened yet.
- 49:35Speaker 7: AJ Brown.
- 49:36Speaker 8: That's the number one by far blows anything else away
- 49:40Speaker 8: that they've done so far.
- 49:41Speaker 3: See, I think it's easy to say we're better than
- 49:43Speaker 3: last March because now we know Drake had that seat March.
- 49:49Speaker 7: No one's compared its last he is February.
- 49:52Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. That's why I think you can
- 49:55Speaker 3: question what I said even more than if I said, oh,
- 49:58Speaker 3: we're better than we were last March. We're obviously better.
- 50:01Speaker 8: If that email was comparing this March to last March,
- 50:04Speaker 8: then that's a.
- 50:04Speaker 3: Different right, that's what he's why are not good? I
- 50:09Speaker 3: thought it was all right if they.
- 50:11Speaker 5: Trade for AJ Brown, we all agree they're a better team.
- 50:13Speaker 3: All right, We're going to take a break. We'll be

- 52:04Speaker 2: g Reese of course, man who needs no introduction.
- 52:06Speaker 15: Mike, great to see you, Evan, let's talk.
- 52:10Speaker 2: Well I got to start, Mike, because I feel like
- 52:12Speaker 2: we talked to you with the Super Bowl couple. I mean,
- 52:14Speaker 2: it feels like it was yesterday.
- 52:15Speaker 15: I love that talk.
- 52:15Speaker 2: And you had a line in that preview that stuck
- 52:18Speaker 2: with me. It hit me like a treight train when
- 52:20Speaker 2: you said it. And you just looked at the defensive
- 52:22Speaker 2: line of Seattle and you said, these are a bunch
- 52:24Speaker 2: of veteran players. And that was so simplified it to me,
- 52:29Speaker 2: And that is kind of exactly how the game unfolded,
- 52:32Speaker 2: oh Man.
- 52:33Speaker 16: And credit to Nick Cassario is because when I was
- 52:37Speaker 16: previewing the game with him for a story on ESPN
- 52:40Speaker 16: dot com, he sort of, I said, break down the Seahawks,
- 52:44Speaker 16: and we know from twenty four years a Bill he
- 52:47Speaker 16: would come, Bill Belichick would come to the podium and
- 52:49Speaker 16: he'd give us the other team without any notes, right,
- 52:53Speaker 16: And Nick did that and he started with the Seahawks
- 52:57Speaker 16: defensive front. And so I have to give him the
- 53:00Speaker 16: credit because honestly, it's not me studying it like seventeen
- 53:06Speaker 16: regular season games, three playoff games and coming up with
- 53:09Speaker 16: this brilliant plan of what's gonna unfold.
- 53:12Speaker 15: It was more talking to the experience that I trust.
- 53:15Speaker 2: But you were condo it, and I think it's just
- 53:16Speaker 2: it simplified it, and unfortunately.
- 53:18Speaker 7: It's exactly how it played it.
- 53:20Speaker 2: And I think back to the Patriots defenses, you know
- 53:23Speaker 2: in three and o four, when they were a veteran group,
- 53:25Speaker 2: when it was like, you're going in this game with
- 53:26Speaker 2: Mike Rabel, you know, Teddy Bruski Willing. You just knew
- 53:30Speaker 2: that those guys were gonna come to play in the
- 53:31Speaker 2: biggest games.
- 53:32Speaker 16: And I want to share a story from the year
- 53:36Speaker 16: with Morgan Moses, which is what we're talking about. Morgan
- 53:40Speaker 16: Moses is thirty four to thirty five years old, a
- 53:43Speaker 16: veteran in the league, and he was talking to me
- 53:45Speaker 16: about how much he likes Will Campbell and Jared Wilson
- 53:50Speaker 16: and then sharing this story with me. He said, like
- 53:53Speaker 16: their kids like and and he then described himself and
- 53:57Speaker 16: said it wasn't until I was twenty four or twenty
- 54:00Speaker 16: five that just physically I could catch up to what
- 54:05Speaker 16: I was facing in the NFL.
- 54:08Speaker 15: And we talked about Trent.
- 54:10Speaker 16: Williams still doing it at thirty seven, thirty eight, thirty
- 54:13Speaker 16: nine years old. Morgan wants to come back, by the way,
- 54:16Speaker 16: Like that's part of the whole conversation we were having.
- 54:18Speaker 15: But I remembered him telling me that.
- 54:21Speaker 16: Thinking about the Super Bowl and like, wow, they are
- 54:24Speaker 16: going to be relying on these kids that need another
- 54:26Speaker 16: offseason they get stronger and build up there. Yeah, what
- 54:31Speaker 16: they have, you know, to go up against these guys
- 54:33Speaker 16: that have been in the league for three, four or
- 54:35Speaker 16: five years.
- 54:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:36Speaker 4: I saw you reported yesterday that no surgery expected for
- 54:40Speaker 4: Will Campbell, and that's good news. But I thought that
- 54:42Speaker 4: was something that stood out from Elliot Wolf yesterday, it
- 54:45Speaker 4: was him saying I didn't see the same lower body
- 54:48Speaker 4: strength in the playoffs from him and then from the
- 54:51Speaker 4: regular season. What's just your sense though, just in terms
- 54:54Speaker 4: of their approach this offseason, and I think a lot
- 54:58Speaker 4: of us are asking the same questions of are you
- 55:01Speaker 4: now in more of an expedited situation because you did
- 55:04Speaker 4: make the Super Bowl? Or do you think they're still
- 55:06Speaker 4: in that long term approach?
- 55:08Speaker 16: So you highlighted to me, Evan the most interesting thing
- 55:11Speaker 16: I heard yesterday, which was that view of Will Campbell,
- 55:14Speaker 16: like we thought he played well before the injury, then
- 55:17Speaker 16: we didn't see the same ability to anchor, which I
- 55:22Speaker 16: think people listening might ask the question, well, then why
- 55:25Speaker 16: did you play him? Yea, you know, And then I
- 55:27Speaker 16: think the answer to that and I'm going to deduce
- 55:29Speaker 16: this they haven't said this. They still felt like Will
- 55:32Speaker 16: at that level was better than the next option, which
- 55:37Speaker 16: was Vederian Lowe. And I think I would have played this.
- 55:40Speaker 16: I would have done it if you're asking me the
- 55:41Speaker 16: same way. But that's a fair question, right In terms
- 55:45Speaker 16: of the approach, I believe it comes down to the money.
- 55:49Speaker 16: I always believe it comes down to the money. I
- 55:51Speaker 16: think Christian Gonzales being eligible for an extension is everything.
- 55:55Speaker 15: That's where it should start.
- 55:56Speaker 16: I think Drake being eligible next year at this time
- 55:59Speaker 16: has got to be in your long range view. So
- 56:03Speaker 16: I don't expect them to come out and spend like
- 56:07Speaker 16: a big, big deal unless it's just a perfect scenario.
- 56:12Speaker 15: For example, the Raiders say, you.
- 56:14Speaker 16: Know what this, Max Crosby, you can have them for
- 56:18Speaker 16: minimal compensation and and then you're you can assume that contract,
- 56:22Speaker 16: you know what I mean.
- 56:23Speaker 15: So I don't know if I answered it.
- 56:24Speaker 4: Yeah, no, you did, But I I just in terms
- 56:27Speaker 4: of just how you feel about it too, Like, do
- 56:29Speaker 4: you think that they should take that approach? Because I
- 56:32Speaker 4: think that a lot of fans hear that and are
- 56:34Speaker 4: going to be a little bit disappointed that they're not
- 56:36Speaker 4: going to just now go for it right, you're one
- 56:39Speaker 4: went away from the super Bowl last year. But I
- 56:40Speaker 4: actually kind of see it and say, I actually think
- 56:43Speaker 4: that that's probably the smart thing to do, because you
- 56:46Speaker 4: really kind of have to treat it like you almost
- 56:48Speaker 4: had like a nice season, like you know, like a
- 56:51Speaker 4: nine win ten win season. But the way that it
- 56:54Speaker 4: broke for them, it probably was the reason why they
- 56:57Speaker 4: got as far as they did, Yes, and I think
- 56:59Speaker 4: you have to be kind of realistic about that. At
- 57:01Speaker 4: the same time, would you agree with.
- 57:03Speaker 15: That one hundred person? It's being honest with.
- 57:07Speaker 3: Are you?
- 57:08Speaker 16: Are you a super Bowl team right like they were
- 57:11Speaker 16: this year based on AFC being down a little bit.
- 57:15Speaker 16: Give them credit to they learn how to win games,
- 57:18Speaker 16: Like I don't think that should be dismissed. I don't
- 57:20Speaker 16: love when people say, oh, you know, fools gold for
- 57:23Speaker 16: lack of a better term, like that's that's bs to me, Like,
- 57:26Speaker 16: that's not fools gold.
- 57:27Speaker 15: It's hard to win. It's hard to go nine to
- 57:29Speaker 15: zero on the road, do you know?
- 57:31Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 57:32Speaker 16: But at the same time, like I don't, it's gonna
- 57:35Speaker 16: be a lot harder in twenty twenty six.
- 57:37Speaker 2: That's that's what I was gonna say, Mike. It's just
- 57:39Speaker 2: it seems there's a lot of hard decisions this year
- 57:41Speaker 2: because it would be somewhat easy to run it back.
- 57:43Speaker 2: I mean, Chase On's a free agent, Austin Hooper, Jalen Hawkins,
- 57:47Speaker 2: a few starters and guys that you could make an
- 57:50Speaker 2: argument to bring all those guys back, that they fit well,
- 57:52Speaker 2: that they played you know better as the season went on,
- 57:56Speaker 2: but all the offensive linemen are coming back. So it's
- 57:59Speaker 2: just it's there's no like, well, there's a hole here,
- 58:01Speaker 2: and we like, you're gonna have to probably move some
- 58:04Speaker 2: pieces around and you're not going to bring back the
- 58:06Speaker 2: same team next year. It's gonna be a different team.
- 58:08Speaker 2: I think everybody has to has to realize.
- 58:10Speaker 16: That it'll it'll be a different team. I feel like
- 58:14Speaker 16: to build off what we're talking about, another solid draft
- 58:17Speaker 16: is mandatory, and I guess, to me, that's going for it.
- 58:22Speaker 15: It's like having another solid draft.
- 58:24Speaker 16: And I know that's not sexy, but if as we're
- 58:28Speaker 16: sitting here, I want to use an example from twenty
- 58:30Speaker 16: one to twenty two years ago, Like go find the
- 58:34Speaker 16: first round pick that you made in two thousand and
- 58:36Speaker 16: five at pick thirty two, Go.
- 58:40Speaker 15: Find that player this year.
- 58:42Speaker 16: Logan Mankins is who I'm talking about. I think everyone
- 58:45Speaker 16: watching knows that you're at thirty one. That's going for it.
- 58:49Speaker 15: To me, like, I know that's not traditional going for it,
- 58:53Speaker 15: but I want a nasty, athletic, mean big player up front.
- 59:01Speaker 2: Yeah, helps Will Campbell, you add a little bit of
- 59:04Speaker 2: size maybe next to him. I think it's something that
- 59:05Speaker 2: we've talked about too easy way. Maybe that's a simple fix.
- 59:08Speaker 2: And wh where does Jared Wilson end up? Who is it?
- 59:10Speaker 1: Evans?
- 59:11Speaker 4: I know on the spot, So pregnant from Oregon really
- 59:14Speaker 4: does fit that bill. You know, he's a left guard
- 59:18Speaker 4: at Oregon, pure guard prospect, not one of these tackles
- 59:21Speaker 4: that's going to convert inside.
- 59:23Speaker 3: Uh.
- 59:24Speaker 5: He's a wider body.
- 59:25Speaker 2: He's a heavy handed guy.
- 59:27Speaker 4: Not quite as big as as big Mic, not not
- 59:30Speaker 4: that sort of size, but similar kind of player. The
- 59:34Speaker 4: other guy that stands out to me in that particular
- 59:37Speaker 4: mold who is going to convert from tackle to guard
- 59:40Speaker 4: is Jennings Dunker from Iowa, who is, like, to me,
- 59:43Speaker 4: a mike Ra looks like a mullet. It's a that's
- 59:48Speaker 4: probably a little high. Yeah, but he he's one of
- 59:50Speaker 4: those guys that, you know, there's a really good track
- 59:53Speaker 4: record of moving college tackles to guard. Logan Mankins was
- 59:58Speaker 4: one of them, Joe Toney was one of those guys. Ye,
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: and those guys have a lot of success in the league.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: And Dunkard just the way he looks, the way he play, demeanor,
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: the style, Uh that the run blocking ability, all those
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: things to me, do really scream Mike Rabel like that
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: kind of guy.
- 1:00:16Speaker 16: And I just want to use the Seahawks as an example,
- 1:00:19Speaker 16: Like they're the super Bowl champion and we're talking about
- 1:00:22Speaker 16: this idea of going for it, like last year they
- 1:00:24Speaker 16: were Gray's Able in the first round, right, I mean,
- 1:00:28Speaker 16: is that not going for it?
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, do you know what I mean?
- 1:00:32Speaker 15: Like so I just sort of for me, I like
- 1:00:34Speaker 15: to reframe.
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: Another guy that played tackle in college, by the way,
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: craze able and moved inside.
- 1:00:45Speaker 7: And now great moments in.
- 1:00:49Speaker 8: History, only been on a team like Brandon Cooks. Yeah,
- 1:00:52Speaker 8: changes teams every year. I'm just might not have that
- 1:00:55Speaker 8: knowledge of a system. I was given Eric the props,
- 1:00:59Speaker 8: that's right. I don't understand what his age has to
- 1:01:02Speaker 8: do with anything.
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: I think his age has to do with a lot
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: of it's and you're talking trade. I think another team
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: is taking into consideration the guy's age, right, Why because
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: he's old?
- 1:01:13Speaker 7: Because he doesn't know my system, that's what you said.
- 1:01:17Speaker 8: This is the only thing that I disagree he said
- 1:01:19Speaker 8: is that he's more valuable to the Patriots, Because that's right,
- 1:01:22Speaker 8: and that's nothing to do with age.
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: But at his age, he has less to contribute to
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: another team than a Patriots.
- 1:01:29Speaker 7: I agree.
- 1:01:29Speaker 8: That's why I don't think powers because he's old.
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: About two minutes later, who's even more valuable to him?
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: Another team with the Patriots?
- 1:01:38Speaker 7: The Patriots?
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: Why? Because he is on the Patrick get it? You
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: can't even answer, you know, forget it.
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: It's it's over.
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: It's okay, so ding ding ding, it's over. Let's move on.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: About five minutes later.
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: Thank that's ridiculously, this is what happened. You can't have it.
- 1:01:55Speaker 7: You can't have any because you can't.
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 1:01:58Speaker 7: You're not allowed to disagree with Thank.
- 1:02:00Speaker 3: You, You're not allowed.
- 1:02:03Speaker 7: Don't disagree.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: Thanks for giving me credit for that.
- 1:02:06Speaker 7: Don't disagree. I'm sorry. I'm did I hurt your feelings
- 1:02:10Speaker 7: by disagreeing with you?
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: I'm shot. I don't think I sound like the one
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: who's upset you No, oh no, you very much sound
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: like the one who's upset.
- 1:02:20Speaker 7: That's ridiculous. That's ridiculous. That's ridiculous.
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: Well we just like that ended at something. I don't
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: mean it's like I have to. It's like I have
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: to put down a vampire exactly like and keeps coming
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: back to get decided is hard.
- 1:02:33Speaker 7: You've decided that it's silly.
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: That's another great moment from all right backhand and Patriots
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: Unfiltered A five to five past five hundred is the
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: hotline podcast at Patriots dot com is the email address
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: Evan has left to go.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: Look at why he's lurking over? I just saw a
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: picture he's up there lurking over.
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: He goes, from what's on high I'm I'm Evan. I'm Evan.
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: That's you know, the guy that you heard about.
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: I'm that guy he does do that, the guy behind
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: the guy I will be breaking down your film, just
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: so you know.
- 1:03:07Speaker 7: Talking about yesterday.
- 1:03:08Speaker 8: So they have a little bit of a different setup
- 1:03:10Speaker 8: for this sort of meet and greet with the media
- 1:03:12Speaker 8: with some of these wide receivers, rather than a formal
- 1:03:16Speaker 8: press conference in a podium, and they just have them
- 1:03:19Speaker 8: set up at tables. I think my tables, round table,
- 1:03:22Speaker 8: you know, so the media is sort of free to
- 1:03:23Speaker 8: walk around and talk to whichever one of the players
- 1:03:26Speaker 8: that they want. So Evan and you know, we're all
- 1:03:28Speaker 8: talking about it in the think tank yesterday, Fred, and
- 1:03:31Speaker 8: you know, Evan's saying, well, you know, I actually kind
- 1:03:32Speaker 8: of like it from a media perspective, which I agree
- 1:03:34Speaker 8: with Evan because it's more personal and you can get like,
- 1:03:38Speaker 8: you know, like I said, you can talk to whoever
- 1:03:39Speaker 8: you want, and you should be able to get a
- 1:03:41Speaker 8: question into whoever you want.
- 1:03:44Speaker 7: On your timetable.
- 1:03:46Speaker 8: And Evan's like, you know, so you can you make
- 1:03:48Speaker 8: a personal connection with the guy you know, so you know,
- 1:03:51Speaker 8: like they come back and you know, you know, for
- 1:03:54Speaker 8: OTAs and whatnot and Matt Smith and Trusting goes and
- 1:03:57Speaker 8: they have no idea who you are, Mike, and I like, yes.
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: Yeah, they know, they know, But that.
- 1:04:04Speaker 8: Was exactly what you're talking about, Like, you know, I'm
- 1:04:07Speaker 8: the guy, remember me.
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: All right, let's get to the phones. We'll start with
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: Danny and Tampa. What's up Danny, Hey.
- 1:04:16Speaker 17: Gentlemen, how you doing today. I just wanted to compliment.
- 1:04:22Speaker 17: I wanted to a degree on all of your guys takes.
- 1:04:26Speaker 17: I was gonna take a Paul approach and uh to
- 1:04:29Speaker 17: kick some of the things I did, like the fullback starting.
- 1:04:33Speaker 17: I also like the they finally got an inline blocking
- 1:04:36Speaker 17: tight end. I still think they need to a key
- 1:04:39Speaker 17: part and they need to draft another or draft to
- 1:04:41Speaker 17: tight end. So uh when this coming years draft, so
- 1:04:44Speaker 17: I'll wait for that. I give them overall se minus
- 1:04:48Speaker 17: grade right now because it's you know, the off season
- 1:04:54Speaker 17: isn't done yet. So and I still think they filled
- 1:04:59Speaker 17: a lot of keyhole was like you guys mentioned, and
- 1:05:02Speaker 17: I think they did better then you know, well, they
- 1:05:05Speaker 17: made some good moves. They still need some depth. I
- 1:05:08Speaker 17: would like them to see them draft some people in
- 1:05:11Speaker 17: the safety. One of the one take I want to
- 1:05:13Speaker 17: give you guys before I get off The Muni Times
- 1:05:16Speaker 17: came on yesterday and you know Evan's girl on ESPN
- 1:05:22Speaker 17: they were talking about did you guys you guys, I
- 1:05:24Speaker 17: may have missed it when you guys, uh may have
- 1:05:27Speaker 17: said it on the show. It came out late the
- 1:05:29Speaker 17: Raiders and and the Ravens that nigged on their trade,
- 1:05:34Speaker 17: mainly on the Ravens part. Yeah, the Ravens nig renigged
- 1:05:39Speaker 17: on it, and uh, the whole sports world was kind
- 1:05:41Speaker 17: of blown up to that.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:05:44Speaker 17: She had mentioned the should the Patriots be back in
- 1:05:46Speaker 17: on the trade, and I made so I wanted to
- 1:05:49Speaker 17: make picture, you guys, this trade if I'm the Patriots
- 1:05:51Speaker 17: and or I'm Mike Rabel, because we know Elliot ain't
- 1:05:54Speaker 17: really doing anything. But if if if I'm Mike Rabel,
- 1:05:57Speaker 17: I'm calling up I'm calling up the Raiders, and I'm
- 1:06:01Speaker 17: I'm I blowball. Though, because they cheftery chefty, I trust sefty.
- 1:06:07Speaker 17: He reported that they uh the Ravens their team doctors
- 1:06:13Speaker 17: and then they had one of the highly most regarded
- 1:06:16Speaker 17: team surgeons in in pro football from the Dallas Cowboys
- 1:06:19Speaker 17: and gave his best opinion on it. And that's what failed,
- 1:06:24Speaker 17: from my understanding, what failed the trade because he gave
- 1:06:28Speaker 17: his pinion on it and said that his knee was
- 1:06:30Speaker 17: still an issue. So what I would do if I'm
- 1:06:32Speaker 17: the Patriots, I'd blow ball at first. I would not
- 1:06:34Speaker 17: give him a first pick. I'd give him a second
- 1:06:37Speaker 17: round and maybe Carlton Davis to sweeten the deal and
- 1:06:40Speaker 17: then see if that works. I think it might, But
- 1:06:43Speaker 17: I don't know what you guys think.
- 1:06:46Speaker 8: You're not getting a guy who they just traded for
- 1:06:48Speaker 8: two first round picks for a second round pick and
- 1:06:50Speaker 8: a thirty year old cornerback.
- 1:06:52Speaker 17: I think they have to because.
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: They can keep them.
- 1:06:57Speaker 7: Why not just keep them well?
- 1:06:59Speaker 17: Because I see that well, for one, they want the
- 1:07:03Speaker 17: first the first round picks because.
- 1:07:05Speaker 7: They're not getting on it.
- 1:07:07Speaker 8: If you give him the first round pick, then we're talking.
- 1:07:09Speaker 8: But you don't want to give him a first round pick.
- 1:07:12Speaker 17: See another option they could do is they could give
- 1:07:14Speaker 17: him a second that could turn into a first, but
- 1:07:16Speaker 17: I don't know how they.
- 1:07:17Speaker 18: Could work well.
- 1:07:18Speaker 7: But they want a first, even if you give.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: Him a first and say, well, our first is thirty first,
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: do you want aj Brown? Because now you lost that asset.
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: Now you have less chance of getting a J. Brown.
- 1:07:30Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean I agree with your premise. I would
- 1:07:33Speaker 8: kick the tires on Max Crosby and see if you
- 1:07:35Speaker 8: can get because he's not going to get two first
- 1:07:37Speaker 8: round picks now, no, you know, no one's, no one's
- 1:07:39Speaker 8: going to do that, so the price is probably dropped.
- 1:07:41Speaker 7: And I agree with your overall premise. I would look
- 1:07:43Speaker 7: and I would just.
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: Keep it like that.
- 1:07:45Speaker 8: I would drop the phone. I would go to the Raiders.
- 1:07:47Speaker 8: I would pick up the phone and I would see
- 1:07:48Speaker 8: what it would take. I would absolutely get into it. Yeah,
- 1:07:51Speaker 8: you're not getting him for a second.
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: Do you pick up that whole situation?
- 1:07:55Speaker 8: So I have very mixed feelings. All the scorn and
- 1:07:59Speaker 8: ridicules that Baltimore is getting. I think they deserve first
- 1:08:02Speaker 8: of all. I think they're kind of a slippery organization.
- 1:08:05Speaker 8: They're kind of often in trouble. They're often envelope pushers,
- 1:08:10Speaker 8: and can I put it that way?
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: You know?
- 1:08:14Speaker 8: But I agree with everybody that has all the things
- 1:08:17Speaker 8: that they're saying about it. At the same time, if
- 1:08:20Speaker 8: I were a Ravens fan, I'd applaud this.
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: Oh.
- 1:08:23Speaker 8: I would want my team to be willing to do
- 1:08:26Speaker 8: something that's not popular, and I know it's not going
- 1:08:29Speaker 8: to be perceived well, but it's going to make my
- 1:08:32Speaker 8: team better. And they're better with Trey Hendrickson and not
- 1:08:35Speaker 8: having forfeited two first round picks, then they would be
- 1:08:37Speaker 8: with Max Cross.
- 1:08:38Speaker 7: Do you think that no two first round?
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: Do you think that the I will call in an
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: uproar locally in the Baltimore area when they made this move,
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: affected them backing out of it, because I is that?
- 1:08:52Speaker 7: Is that right? They got a lot of pos starting.
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: With Kenfora, who's one of the big Ravens.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: Forget him, he's completely out of his They didn't like it,
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: and they didn't they thought they gave up too much. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: I mean you can make an argument that they gave
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: up too much. Mike you know what, you and I
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: talked about this a little bit. You give me your take.
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Now, I loved your take of them pulling the fast one.
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: But you're from Eric to Costa yesterday saying, you know,
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: kind of like we found something. What do you want
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: me to do? I have to protect you know, the
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: owner and stuff.
- 1:09:22Speaker 7: They actually wanted both, the actually wanted both.
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: I mean, I love, you know pulse thing of just
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: saying now Hendrickson's not going let's.
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: Are they going to make a move the Oh they
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: already did. Oh. I didn't even know that was announcement.
- 1:09:34Speaker 8: So my feeling is, first of all, I don't think
- 1:09:37Speaker 8: this had anything at all. This had nothing at all
- 1:09:39Speaker 8: to do with Max Crosby's knee. I think that it
- 1:09:43Speaker 8: got into the combination with Fred's talking about they got
- 1:09:45Speaker 8: some pushback among their own about how much they gave up,
- 1:09:50Speaker 8: so they had some remorse buyer's remorse. Then free agency
- 1:09:55Speaker 8: comes in the top pass rusher on the market, who
- 1:09:58Speaker 8: everybody thought was going to blow everybody away didn't. So
- 1:10:02Speaker 8: now you're looking at him like, I can have this
- 1:10:05Speaker 8: guy for roughly what I was going to have to
- 1:10:07Speaker 8: pay Crosby. He's not Crosby as a player, but as
- 1:10:11Speaker 8: a pass rusher, he's pretty close. So I can have
- 1:10:15Speaker 8: this guy for no draft compensation or that guy for
- 1:10:18Speaker 8: two first round picks. Right, got to what do we
- 1:10:20Speaker 8: gotta do to get out of this? You know what
- 1:10:22Speaker 8: I immediately thought of, Fred Bill Belichick. Bill Belichick would
- 1:10:28Speaker 8: have done that, absolutely would have made that move.
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: Wait a minute, we can do that after this. We
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: screwed this up.
- 1:10:35Speaker 8: Now A lot of people would look and come to
- 1:10:37Speaker 8: that same conclusion, but say it's too late. It takes
- 1:10:41Speaker 8: a different kind of cat to say, I know it's
- 1:10:45Speaker 8: too late, but the ink ain't dry, it's not official yet.
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: I'll take the heat.
- 1:10:49Speaker 7: Yeah, and we're going to get some blowback.
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: They probably did the right thing.
- 1:10:55Speaker 8: I think if I were a Ravens fan, I'd be
- 1:10:57Speaker 8: thrilled that my team was willing to do this.
- 1:10:59Speaker 7: You can be the bad guy. Yeah, it's gonna blow
- 1:11:02Speaker 7: I mean, let's face it, it's gonna blow over.
- 1:11:04Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:11:04Speaker 8: I was on Twitter Tuesday night when this is happening.
- 1:11:07Speaker 8: I can't tell you how many people said two different things.
- 1:11:09Speaker 8: Number One, on the Baltimore side, good luck Ravens trying
- 1:11:13Speaker 8: to make any more and like five minutes later they
- 1:11:16Speaker 8: signed Trey Hendrickson, So evidently Trey Hendrickson's agent didn't have
- 1:11:20Speaker 8: any problem dealing with the Ravens. So that's number one
- 1:11:22Speaker 8: that will go away. The second part is, Oh, the
- 1:11:25Speaker 8: poor Raiders. Now they're stuck.
- 1:11:27Speaker 7: Give me a napkin with me. I'll show you how
- 1:11:29Speaker 7: they're not stocked.
- 1:11:31Speaker 8: Like if they can sort of convince him to stay,
- 1:11:35Speaker 8: they're fine. They're gonna end up benefiting from this because
- 1:11:37Speaker 8: they're gonna keep the player and they made some moves.
- 1:11:40Speaker 7: Maybe they'll be better.
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: Are the Ravens on the Raiders schedule this year because
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: that'll be a good thing.
- 1:11:46Speaker 8: Now, that will be like the Raiders obviously, you know
- 1:11:49Speaker 8: you're dead to me, that's totally understandable.
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: No, but like Crosby revenge.
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: But what do you think would get it done?
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: Now?
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: If the team stills like we want Max Crosby, I mean,
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: is it compensation still to it's going to be down
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: to it's.
- 1:12:02Speaker 7: Not going to be two first, but it's not. But
- 1:12:03Speaker 7: it's not going to just be nothing.
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: Yeah, it's going to be one in something else.
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: Like and then this year too, I mean, do you
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: think teams are still going to move on this guy,
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: or is this going to put him back in the rate.
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: They're going to do their own evaluation.
- 1:12:13Speaker 7: If you're the Raiders, don't you want me.
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: He's just had surgery. Of course his knee isn't right
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: right now, but it's meniscous.
- 1:12:18Speaker 8: So I said, this has nothing to do with Max
- 1:12:20Speaker 8: Crosby's knee. Yeah, they didn't find anything they didn't already know.
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: Yeah, and remember at the end of the season his
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: knee was so bad that he was pissed that they
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: wouldn't play him in the last two games. He still
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: wanted to play, so it couldn't have been that bad.
- 1:12:36Speaker 8: It's a meniscus, yeah, but once you get the surgery,
- 1:12:39Speaker 8: then you're on the shelf.
- 1:12:41Speaker 7: But you want to just play.
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: It's not a major surgery. It's not like a cl
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: or achilles. It's a meniscus. Yeah. Most of the time
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: when you get a miniscus, it's.
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: Just rest right. That's what I had. But concern would
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: be if it gets to Edelman's point where it's completely
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: worn away, there's no cards left, and it's you know,
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: bone on bone. He's gonna need a knee replacement at
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: some point. I just want how it all works out?
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: Does he go back?
- 1:13:01Speaker 3: Yeah, replacement isn't the worst thing either, I hadn't.
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: It works still good, yead.
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: Best thing I have going for me. Just you got
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: both the known or just one? Just one for now? No,
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: I have to go under the knife. April seventeenth, after
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: I'm fixing my achilles and taking out a bone spur.
- 1:13:19Speaker 7: What's the matter with your achilles?
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: It's torn up?
- 1:13:21Speaker 7: You have a twenty achilles.
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: It's not completely torn up, but it's I can't. I
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: can't accelerate.
- 1:13:27Speaker 7: Yeah, can you like get on your toes?
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:13:32Speaker 7: Yeah, so it's not completely it's because I couldn't.
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: Yeah. And a half weeks later I went to the way,
- 1:13:38Speaker 3: you're gonna take a little bit from here and put
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: it over here and then take off the bone spur.
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: That's all right, A big deal, Freddy, is it? It's
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: going to be a little bit of a rehab process. No,
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: well it was like six months six months for me. No,
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: but you had I had a rupture. Yeah.
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: Yeah, you're gonna be good by the draft. I mean,
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: you know, I think I'll be in a boot.
- 1:13:59Speaker 8: I mean, you could inspire the youth of America and
- 1:14:02Speaker 8: people everywhere like Jason Tato.
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: Well, I'm gonna do a documentary right five parts, because
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: I feel like my soul is leaving me with this injury.
- 1:14:14Speaker 7: It really is.
- 1:14:15Speaker 8: Oh man, we're in a good I really just grew
- 1:14:18Speaker 8: up in the wrong era like I.
- 1:14:22Speaker 7: Today.
- 1:14:23Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, I could have really played that up.
- 1:14:26Speaker 8: I could have put a documentary out there. Patriots dot
- 1:14:29Speaker 8: Com the Road back to reporter.
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: Yeah uh all right, let's get back to the phones.
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: Eight five five past five hundred. We'll start with Zach
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: in New Hampshire. What's up, Zach?
- 1:14:42Speaker 19: Hey, guys, thanks taking my call. I wanted to know
- 1:14:46Speaker 19: your thoughts on Anthony Hill Junior, the Texas linebacker. I
- 1:14:49Speaker 19: thought he was a really good off ball linebacker but
- 1:14:51Speaker 19: can also help in the pass rush.
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: Okay, Anthony Hill, Texas off ball linebacker.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I like him. I mean, you know,
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: he's another one of those mobile guys. But yeah, probably
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: in the range about you know, early second, late first
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: kind of thing.
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: I think it's like Evan said, I think you're looking
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: at these off the ball linebackers as good depth pieces
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: this year's He's one of the more high end ones.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: Just see pull up pool so.
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: Zach while he's looking why him? Why did you bring
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: up him in particular?
- 1:15:25Speaker 19: I just think he has, you know, good things. I
- 1:15:27Speaker 19: think putting him next to Splene is a rookie could
- 1:15:29Speaker 19: really help him and help the Patriots. I think he
- 1:15:32Speaker 19: could develop into a guy that could wear the green
- 1:15:35Speaker 19: dots someday and just be a good commander for the defense.
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: Yeah, just look at my notes. I mean, still a
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: young guy in developmental but six three, two thirty seven,
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: so some good size. I mean that's something I'm thinking about.
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: You know, Jake Gold is another one from Cincinnati. Bigger
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: inside linebackers, but can run. Still figuring out exactly what
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: they like at that position, but I would I would
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: definitely keep an eye on all those off the ball linebackers.
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: Like to Paul's point, like, you know, you got to
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: have a plan whisper lane long term. I mean, I
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: don't know if last year was a one off where
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: you know, we kind of got banged up. I think
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: he's generally been pretty durable. But you know, again, the
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: guy who's about thirty one of those veterans you want
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: to have a back.
- 1:16:11Speaker 7: Very most basically taxing position.
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: Sure, that's why I would you know a lot of contact,
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: you know a lot of tackles.
- 1:16:16Speaker 7: I mean he had you can get to your mid thirties,
- 1:16:19Speaker 7: you know in some other spots.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: One hundred and fifty tackles a year after you sat
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: with you for a while.
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: Hey, Zach, do you have a take on the Patriots
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: free agency so far?
- 1:16:30Speaker 19: I mean, I really like what they're doing. I think
- 1:16:32Speaker 19: a lot of people are sleeping on Romeo Dobbs. I
- 1:16:34Speaker 19: think putting him with with Drake May is really going
- 1:16:36Speaker 19: to benefit him. And then I also really like Barah Tucker.
- 1:16:39Speaker 19: If he can stay healthy, I think that we'll help
- 1:16:42Speaker 19: Will Campbell hugely. But I mean, yeah, a lot of
- 1:16:45Speaker 19: good players are sign him.
- 1:16:46Speaker 3: All right, thanks for the calls at Let's go to
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: Ohio where Brad is on the line. What's up, Brad?
- 1:16:55Speaker 14: Hey, guys, how you doing today?
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: Okay?
- 1:16:58Speaker 14: All right? Good? Always good singing Fred? Hope everything goes
- 1:17:02Speaker 14: well with it?
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: Well, I'm fine. They're even going to put me to sleep.
- 1:17:07Speaker 14: Just remember before, not.
- 1:17:12Speaker 10: Right?
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: What's that? I'm sorry? We were laughing.
- 1:17:17Speaker 14: Toads above nose, above nose.
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: Yeah, keep it elevated. In other words, Okay, yeah, they
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: want me to keep wade off us for a while.
- 1:17:28Speaker 14: Remember Riot the acronym rights rest compressions.
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: Okay, what about Patriots.
- 1:17:38Speaker 14: I'm sorry, got off on the road thinking I'm thinking
- 1:17:41Speaker 14: about a guard. First of all, I got just a
- 1:17:43Speaker 14: couple of questions. Please guys help me with this. His
- 1:17:47Speaker 14: name's Kaylin Rutledge. I think he reminds me of Logan Mankin,
- 1:17:52Speaker 14: and I think he would fall in the area that
- 1:17:55Speaker 14: we might be able to get him. He's an interior
- 1:17:57Speaker 14: lineman who can play all three position and then and
- 1:18:02Speaker 14: then as a defensive end. Now, don't beat me up,
- 1:18:06Speaker 14: because you know, I only picked the Michigan players that
- 1:18:10Speaker 14: I think could make a difference with our team. So
- 1:18:13Speaker 14: that being said, I'm gonna say Derek Moore rusher on
- 1:18:17Speaker 14: the defensive end, and then jay Sean Barham I think
- 1:18:23Speaker 14: would be a great fit. He just a he's really
- 1:18:26Speaker 14: just a really instinctive, violent, wild guy. And then Marlon
- 1:18:32Speaker 14: kleinbed the tight end in late rounds. These players I
- 1:18:36Speaker 14: think will be late round picks too. I don't think
- 1:18:39Speaker 14: I think they'll be in a range. That's why I'm
- 1:18:41Speaker 14: staying there. Marlon Klein's a good receiving tight end, not
- 1:18:45Speaker 14: so much a blocker unless you got him blocking on
- 1:18:48Speaker 14: the slot. You can do that. And he's a big guy.
- 1:18:51Speaker 14: You think he could block, but not in line. And
- 1:18:54Speaker 14: then think Max Bredeston, the guy that won that full
- 1:18:57Speaker 14: back of the year. I know we've but this guy's
- 1:19:01Speaker 14: a fledgehammer, okay and all, and you know, so just
- 1:19:08Speaker 14: just sometimes what you guys think about those players.
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: Well, I'm taking your word for it, because I have
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: no idea. I'm taking your word for it. We're gonna
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: have We're gonna start the draft show. Thanks, thanks, I
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: just bow No, I've heard a couple show start.
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: We're the first episode we out a week from yesterday,
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: so we're gonna shoot. We're to talk about quarterbacks and
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: wide receivers today and yeah, first app next week. So
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: which you know, the whole conversation we had at the
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: top of the show. It's like that's when you start
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: the draft stuff, because you know, two weeks ago you
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: think you know what the needs are. But now I
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: feel like with their free agency signings, it's really pointing,
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: you know, to a set bunch of positions. I would
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: just say, though I know you know More from Michigan
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: is a popular one. I just find myself with the
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: edge class, trying to decide what do they like, you know,
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: and I'd say More and t. J. Parker are two
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: guys that you see a lot to the Patriots. They're bigger,
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: physical kind of guys, not the like get off the
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: ball speed, made a kind of well trying to balance
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: what that need is going to be.
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: Well, according to Evan, they're less concerned with that guy
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: that has the size to set the edge than they
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: are with just stringing the play out, depending on their
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: line packers and safeties to fill in. So maybe because
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: of that, as opposed to you know, five years ago,
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: they're they're more open to getting that pure pass rusher.
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: That's that's what I wonder, I mean. And it could
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: even be a little bit of variety between the two
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: where you know, Landry's now really that guy, but I
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: think they like him playing on the left side, the
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: offensive right a little bit, you know, usually where they're
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: going to run a little more, a little bit of
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: a you know, stouter guy perhaps, whereas Chase On. It
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: seemed like this was another point I wanted to make
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: about Chase On. I just think was such a great
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: fit for him, Like it was like just get off
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: the ball and go get the go get the ball.
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: So I wonder how much of his production. Maybe they
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: feel like, yeah, we let guys roam and play free
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: and they're going to make plays. Let's get you know,
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: somebody else. I don't know what the reasoning is, but
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: I wonder.
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: I always go back to, you know, the Belichick days
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: when they had jar miss Green and when everyone was
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: out there. He had really good production, but it was
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: only out there in certain situations because really all he
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: could do was rush.
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: The pass it right. Well, that was I mean, I
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: think he went from kind of being that rotational guy
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: comes in on passing down so to then they trade
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: Seymour and O nine and now all of a sudden
- 1:21:16Speaker 2: you're asking him to play base, defensive end and right
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: you see, all of a sudden, Ray Rice is, you know,
- 1:21:19Speaker 2: going eighty yards.
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: To the house. Randy's in Providence. Hey, Randy, guys.
- 1:21:26Speaker 18: Okay, I think the pre agency moves has kind of
- 1:21:30Speaker 18: set up the Patriots fairly well that they have like
- 1:21:32Speaker 18: serviceable at least NFL starters at every position and they
- 1:21:37Speaker 18: can kind of pursue best player available. I'm curious what
- 1:21:41Speaker 18: you guys think about a the trade option for Grenard
- 1:21:46Speaker 18: at Minnesota or Josh Sweat. It looks like he's asking
- 1:21:49Speaker 18: for a trade today out of Arizona. Pair him up
- 1:21:52Speaker 18: with Milton Williams and went a Super Bowl together on
- 1:21:54Speaker 18: the same defense.
- 1:21:55Speaker 9: Maybe.
- 1:21:56Speaker 18: But also, we've got eleven draft picks. Do you think
- 1:21:59Speaker 18: we have eleven roster spots or do you think that
- 1:22:02Speaker 18: maybe they're looking to move up, if not in the
- 1:22:05Speaker 18: first round, maybe in the second or third and target
- 1:22:08Speaker 18: specific players as opposed to throwing a whole bunch of
- 1:22:11Speaker 18: players at this roster.
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: And yeah, that's a good question. Yeah, because that is
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: a lot of draft picks. Yeah, thanks, Randy.
- 1:22:17Speaker 2: Think it'll be a balancing and I think we're all
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: hoping that they're not going to make four.
- 1:22:21Speaker 18: Yeah.
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: Yes, they don't all make it.
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: That's going to be for a long Saturday.
- 1:22:25Speaker 7: I'm just looking at the pluses and minuses.
- 1:22:28Speaker 8: So off of their fifty three man roster, they've lost
- 1:22:30Speaker 8: twelve guys from last year and they've signed eight.
- 1:22:33Speaker 7: So that's not the way to do it.
- 1:22:36Speaker 8: I'm just sort of giving a marking apples to apples comparison. No,
- 1:22:39Speaker 8: I would not expect eleven guy. I don't expect everybody's
- 1:22:42Speaker 8: draft class to.
- 1:22:43Speaker 7: All make the team.
- 1:22:44Speaker 8: As matter of fact, I think that's kind of a
- 1:22:45Speaker 8: sign of a bad team unless you had an exceptionally
- 1:22:48Speaker 8: good draft. Yeah, they didn't all make it last year.
- 1:22:51Speaker 8: I think we have twelve last year. Yeah, we had
- 1:22:55Speaker 8: a lot of draft picks last year, they didn't all
- 1:22:58Speaker 8: make the roster. Now, I know where they stay in
- 1:23:00Speaker 8: the in the system, you know, like Brayden Swinson's and
- 1:23:03Speaker 8: stuff like that.
- 1:23:04Speaker 7: They end up on the practice squad.
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: They come back and forth, they go.
- 1:23:08Speaker 8: Yeah, Kobe Minor, Yeah, eleven picks plus Ponder Chishlm and
- 1:23:13Speaker 8: depri that all.
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: You know, we're.
- 1:23:16Speaker 8: Do they have the roster spots? No, Like I would
- 1:23:20Speaker 8: say probably not. But I also kind of pushed back
- 1:23:24Speaker 8: on the whole. Well, yes, I mean every team has
- 1:23:27Speaker 8: a NFL player in the starting lineup right now on paper. Yeah, Like,
- 1:23:31Speaker 8: do you feel good about them all?
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: No?
- 1:23:33Speaker 7: I don't.
- 1:23:35Speaker 8: I think you can get better in a number of spots.
- 1:23:38Speaker 8: We'll see if they're able to do that.
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: Plus it's like Gilliam could take Westover spot Westover's back, But.
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: You know, it's that kind of thing where and.
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: I'd really look at the offensive line depth who you know,
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: really beyond I'd say Ben Brown, you feel okay if
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: he has to get in there, but I mean he's
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: your sixth guy. And after that, you know Lorenz Matts
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: who got here late, Cayden Wallace, Mkay Butler, Andrew Ruh,
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: Marcus Bryant who maybe, and Sebastian Gudierra's that's their depth.
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: So I think they need on one, you maybe ending
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: the last year of his deal, they need some depth.
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: We talk about right tackle.
- 1:24:09Speaker 8: Right, I feel good, you know, and I understand his point,
- 1:24:13Speaker 8: Like they have a start, like I mean, I don't know,
- 1:24:15Speaker 8: like is Christian Ellis, Like is that a starting caliber
- 1:24:20Speaker 8: player to you? I mean he's he started last year
- 1:24:23Speaker 8: and I actually think he played pretty well in the
- 1:24:25Speaker 8: second half of the season, especially, I.
- 1:24:27Speaker 7: Thought he was pretty act.
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: He ascended.
- 1:24:28Speaker 8: But if he had Anthony Hill junior, right, I don't
- 1:24:31Speaker 8: know if he's an NFL player on everybody else's team though,
- 1:24:34Speaker 8: I don't think they have an NFL top wide out. Yeah,
- 1:24:38Speaker 8: you know, they have a bunch of guys who are
- 1:24:40Speaker 8: competent players, which is fine, Like, you know, that's what
- 1:24:44Speaker 8: they had last year, yea, and they went to the
- 1:24:46Speaker 8: Super Bowl, So I think you can always can always
- 1:24:49Speaker 8: get better.
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I would just say generally, I feel like that
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: should be your goal in free agency, is that you
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: know you don't have the glaring, glaring, glaring need. But
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: I would still say, to your point, Paul, the edge position,
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: I was.
- 1:25:00Speaker 8: Gonna say, I don't think there's a lot of teams
- 1:25:01Speaker 8: that would say we're good. We got Harold Landry and
- 1:25:04Speaker 8: Draymond Jones on the edge. I don't think there's a
- 1:25:06Speaker 8: lot of NFL teams that would say, yeah, with solid
- 1:25:08Speaker 8: that's that's the spot for me.
- 1:25:10Speaker 2: But I mean, I've also just I think they've checked,
- 1:25:12Speaker 2: Like I mean, I do this before. It's not like
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: you wait to see what they do and then say, yeah,
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: it was great. Like have a list of things, the
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: list of positions I want address. They've hit most of those.
- 1:25:20Speaker 2: They haven't really hit the edge all as to the
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: level that I would hope them to. But I don't
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: expect them to fill every single box. And it is
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: a strong edge closs.
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: So we'll see. David Barmain a mass I should say.
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: Paul has mentioned the idea of signing Romeo Dobbs several
- 1:25:35Speaker 3: times before, and nobody seem interested in talking about him
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: as an option.
- 1:25:39Speaker 8: Things have changed now, I believe evanstot so everybody's on
- 1:25:43Speaker 8: board now.
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: I believe Evan basically said that Dobbs was essentially the
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: same player as Booty and would not add anything for us.
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: Now that we signed him, he's suddenly a younger version
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: of Diggs and it was a great signing. I'm optimistic
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: about the signing, but I think we need to be
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: realistic about what Dobbs is.
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: It's funny as I have such a memory of Paul
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: being like, what do you guys think just Romeo Dobbs,
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: And I was like, I don't really know, you know,
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: he wasn't.
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: He wasn't one of the ones that I don't, you know.
- 1:26:11Speaker 8: So I'm going to defend Evan a little bit too,
- 1:26:13Speaker 8: because he did kind of do a mea culpa today
- 1:26:15Speaker 8: and to the defending the email or he may not
- 1:26:18Speaker 8: have heard that, he may have just written in. But
- 1:26:20Speaker 8: but Evan said he kind of thought about Dobbs the
- 1:26:23Speaker 8: way he was thinking about him coming out of the draft,
- 1:26:25Speaker 8: and he thought he was kind of a downfield, contested
- 1:26:28Speaker 8: catch guy, you know, not necessarily now that he's a Patriot,
- 1:26:32Speaker 8: unsaid now that he's on the pageots, but he did
- 1:26:35Speaker 8: say like he's watched, you know, in sort of doing
- 1:26:39Speaker 8: some of his film and watching some of them. He's
- 1:26:40Speaker 8: more versatile than he thought. So I'm gonna give Evan
- 1:26:43Speaker 8: a little bit of credit. Some of us that don't
- 1:26:46Speaker 8: watch the film and just know the game, oh know
- 1:26:49Speaker 8: the game by watching it yea once, not twenty seven times,
- 1:26:55Speaker 8: sort of felt like he was the versatile kind of
- 1:26:58Speaker 8: receiver that could fit well into the.
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: Lesson for Evan is after the guy's been in the
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: league for five years, maybe you should get updated and
- 1:27:07Speaker 3: not depend on I tried to defend him rocket shots.
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: You know you're gonna give it, you gotta take it.
- 1:27:14Speaker 8: But in all seriousness, I think the emailer, because it
- 1:27:18Speaker 8: was duly noted how how dismissive the panel.
- 1:27:22Speaker 7: Was when I brought up Romeo Dobbs about two weeks ago,
- 1:27:24Speaker 7: I think.
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: I was indifferent rather than dismissive. But I don't know
- 1:27:27Speaker 2: if that's better or worse.
- 1:27:29Speaker 8: That's your problem, because you're not indifferent about anything. We
- 1:27:32Speaker 8: could have an OTA practice on maintent and you're just like,
- 1:27:35Speaker 8: I'm just really excited to get out there and see
- 1:27:38Speaker 8: when was the last time he was indifferent on anything.
- 1:27:40Speaker 7: Well, sometimes you're in different spoke volumes.
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: No, I was mostly just going off the Guardian cappy
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: war and as I don't look past that.
- 1:27:48Speaker 7: I don't want that's a concern the Guardian.
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: But make sure just a handful of fun facts coming
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: out of the fun out of the thing a little
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: bit that time for Alvete aka Elijah Vera, Tucker said
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: he's feeling good and is almost one hundred percent expected
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: to be one hundred percent by Otash. Kevin Byard came
- 1:28:10Speaker 2: to a deal with Craig Woodson for the number thirty one,
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: which he's worn.
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: I saw that he was going to be four now think.
- 1:28:17Speaker 16: I don't know.
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: They did not reveal that, but I thought that was
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: in a and in true full back fashion. Reggie Gilliam
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: he couldn't get forty one away from Brandon Schooler, so
- 1:28:25Speaker 2: he's going with forty four, which I think, any harp.
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: Oh, that's great, that is.
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: Four number.
- 1:28:31Speaker 18: I like it.
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: If we could just get him to wear a caller,
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: we'll we'll be we'll be right back in.
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: But Reggie Gillium also said he met Drake May this morning.
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: Who is here today in the facility? So back from
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: it's too bad.
- 1:28:44Speaker 7: Sorry, Well so they're back stocking.
- 1:28:47Speaker 2: Him and he didn't get him.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: He didn't get them. But yeah, just a few things
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: coming out of there.
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: I thought that were interesting, Ryan and Quinsy, right sin.
- 1:28:56Speaker 3: A lot of Patriots Nation have been wondering why the
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: Patriots didn't do more early in free agency. With the
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: addition of Buyer to hope that viewpoint starts to change.
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: Looking at the four main additions we've made, I'm excited
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: the team has clearly improved in four glaring needs from
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: our playoff, runt, guard, edge, wide receiver, and safety. There's
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: still more work to do, but as a Patriots fan,
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: I'm happy knowing those four areas have been addressed.
- 1:29:20Speaker 7: I got I got one of them.
- 1:29:21Speaker 8: I think you improved at safety, Yeah, I don't think
- 1:29:24Speaker 8: you improved at edge. I think you're treading water at
- 1:29:26Speaker 8: edge and wide receiver.
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: Not at guard. You didn't improve it. Maybe Okay, if
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: he plays, if he's healthy, what's Wilson going to do.
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: Don't forget you lost a starter, I know, but Wilson's
- 1:29:37Speaker 3: not gonna play guard. He's gonna go to center.
- 1:29:40Speaker 7: He's not as good as Brad.
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: No, but he's at the guard position. Did you improve Yes, okay,
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: that's what he said. Yes, okay, so you agree with it.
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: If he plays right right, he generally doesn't.
- 1:29:50Speaker 8: Okay, half the time, one last, half the time.
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: They'll be better. Okay, but he'll make up for this program.
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: Get him over here, get him under our trainers.
- 1:30:04Speaker 7: As Mike.
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: Amy t you have come to the right rip. Talk
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: to Morgan Moses. You've come to the right place. Welcome aboard,
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: But Morgan, welcome aboard. My name is Fred. Don't talk
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: about Morgan. Moses plays. He's a durable guy.
- 1:30:19Speaker 8: He plays every year. He misses a game or two.
- 1:30:21Speaker 8: I know, old seasons or two.
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: I know those are major injuries.
- 1:30:25Speaker 8: I know that's my that's my fear. It's not like
- 1:30:28Speaker 8: he's missing it with a hamstring pull. The fact that
- 1:30:30Speaker 8: to Tricip.
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: And Achilles, well, the fact that lightning struck him three times,
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: it's not going to happen a fourth time. It's not
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: gonna happen, is Romeo Dobbs. This is the take he
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: wants to leave for debate, is Romeo Dobbs. Right now
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: underline in bold more less or equal to Stefan Diggs
- 1:30:50Speaker 3: right now. To me, he gives us exactly what Diggs
- 1:30:54Speaker 3: did last year, and he's only twenty five.
- 1:30:57Speaker 8: He's twenty six, and uh, he'll play the season twenty six.
- 1:31:00Speaker 8: My ages are all what he'll be when the season starts.
- 1:31:04Speaker 8: Right now, as he pounded home. Right now, he's less.
- 1:31:09Speaker 8: Could he be better? Yes, I think there's there's room
- 1:31:13Speaker 8: for him in this offense. Maybe he fits just as
- 1:31:16Speaker 8: well as Digs. But right now, I'm sorry, I can't
- 1:31:19Speaker 8: say he's better. When your career high is seven hundred
- 1:31:22Speaker 8: yards and you're replacing a guy who has multiple fifteen
- 1:31:25Speaker 8: hundred yards one thousand yard seasons and as high as
- 1:31:28Speaker 8: fifteen hundred yards, you're not better than him.
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: Yeah, right, I think he's got all the physicals, but
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: he said right now, right now, not.
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: The body of right now.
- 1:31:37Speaker 8: One guy had one thousand yards and the other guy
- 1:31:38Speaker 8: had seven hundred. So no, he's not better.
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: I mean that's, you know, the simple way to look
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: at it. But you know, I just I think that
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: there's a great amount of und simple how does he
- 1:31:47Speaker 2: fit in? You know, does he understand the offense? Is
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: he able to you know, do the things that Digs did.
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: Diggs had experience with Brian Dable, he was familiar with
- 1:31:53Speaker 2: this offense and so he had maybe a little bit
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: of a leg up. I was just so impressed with
- 1:31:57Speaker 2: Stefan Diggs last summer, his route running to know coming
- 1:32:00Speaker 2: off in ACL.
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: I was like, this is what it looks like even
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: off in ACL.
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: We'll see if Dobbs has the same you could have hoped.
- 1:32:07Speaker 8: I think there's a chance that you can get out
- 1:32:10Speaker 8: of Dobbs this year what you got out of Digs
- 1:32:12Speaker 8: last year.
- 1:32:13Speaker 7: But it's a projection.
- 1:32:16Speaker 8: He's never done that, so I can't say he's better
- 1:32:18Speaker 8: or equal to Diggs today.
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: Ford and Savannah. I know it's not apples to apples comparison,
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: but do you think the removal of Diggs, who was
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: one of the loudest leaders on the offense, is similar
- 1:32:31Speaker 3: to when the Celtics removed Marcus Smart, allowing the Jas
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: to step into more of a leadership role. It really
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: worked for the Celtics. I know this is something Rabel
- 1:32:39Speaker 3: was pushing for Drake last year, and this move could
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: open up that opportunity even more.
- 1:32:45Speaker 8: I don't hate the comparison, but I think that what
- 1:32:50Speaker 8: the comparison is missing. You know, I love to talk
- 1:32:52Speaker 8: about the Celtics is It wasn't about the benefit of
- 1:32:58Speaker 8: leaving Smart out of the leadership equation. Wasn't because I
- 1:33:01Speaker 8: wanted Brown and Tatum to emerge as leaders because they
- 1:33:04Speaker 8: got rid of Marcus smartt the player, like Stefan Diggs,
- 1:33:08Speaker 8: the player was very valuable for the team last year.
- 1:33:12Speaker 8: They can replace the leadership. I have no doubt about that.
- 1:33:14Speaker 8: Back to you guys.
- 1:33:15Speaker 7: Before before we took the break talking about Rabel's culture.
- 1:33:18Speaker 7: I am a believer in that.
- 1:33:21Speaker 8: So some you know, and it might be Drake May,
- 1:33:23Speaker 8: but what the the benefit for the Celtics of moving
- 1:33:27Speaker 8: on from Marcus Smart was because you no longer had
- 1:33:29Speaker 8: this guy that wasn't as nearly as good as he
- 1:33:31Speaker 8: thought he was leading the way quote unquote, I'm the
- 1:33:34Speaker 8: guy I got to take the three point and instead
- 1:33:36Speaker 8: it was Brown and Tatum taking big shots. That's why
- 1:33:39Speaker 8: you got better when Smart left, not just because of
- 1:33:42Speaker 8: the locker room staff.
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: I mean, and I don't you know, sometimes that stuff
- 1:33:46Speaker 2: is overrated, and you know, we see how these players
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: present themselves to the media, how are they presenting themselves
- 1:33:52Speaker 2: behind the scenes. We get glimpses from time to time,
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: but I think the personality difference is pretty extreme between
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: you know, Diggs, who has that kind of alpha dog
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: mentality and and Dobbs, who seems kind of soft spoken
- 1:34:03Speaker 2: and you know, not really some of them replaced.
- 1:34:05Speaker 8: Diggs, and I think Diggs was excellent in the lockerroom
- 1:34:08Speaker 8: the speech. Somebody, somebody will replace that. I don't know
- 1:34:12Speaker 8: if someone's going to replace eighty five in one thousand.
- 1:34:15Speaker 8: I'm hopeful that Dobb's gonna do that.
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: And even like, beyond the numbers, it's just the got
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: to have it moments. Hunter Henry, he's the other guy
- 1:34:23Speaker 2: in this is he gonna be able to stay at
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: that level? I mean at this age you and based
- 1:34:28Speaker 2: on how his season ended.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: You'd probably say he's probably going. You know, he's trying to.
- 1:34:32Speaker 7: Get the best out of him that you're going to see.
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: That's why I get to the draft. I'm like, I
- 1:34:37Speaker 2: want I want a tight end who can run and
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: catch the ball. And I don't give a crap if
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: he can block or not, but I want somebody athletic
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: that you know, has a size progile And you start
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: to maybe because that's what you need this draft. I
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: feel this year you're coming out saying, all right, we
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: know Drake and Dobbs, that's a relationship we're hoping to
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: really foster and that that can be an engine for
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: the offense. But I think you're gonna need another guy,
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: whether it's a J. Brown, whether it's a rookie tight end,
- 1:35:02Speaker 2: whether it's a rookie receiver, that you can start to
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: build that long term chemistry with Drake.
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: All Right, Eldridge is on the phone. What's up, Eldred?
- 1:35:10Speaker 12: Hey, fellas, say, y'all doing today? Okay, Okay, Paul, I'm
- 1:35:15Speaker 12: sort of with you, man. I don't know if they
- 1:35:18Speaker 12: got better with the with the new additions, but about
- 1:35:22Speaker 12: the same.
- 1:35:23Speaker 14: And Fred will ask you a question because you.
- 1:35:25Speaker 12: Brought it up a little bit earlier about Drake May.
- 1:35:28Speaker 12: We got a poll in North Carolina. Well, with the
- 1:35:31Speaker 12: season that's coming up this year, is he gonna regress
- 1:35:35Speaker 12: or step forward? And were small as like fifty five
- 1:35:39Speaker 12: forty five? He gonna step back because of the defense.
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: So thinks he's gonna get worse because of his opponents.
- 1:35:47Speaker 12: Opponents that were playing. Okay, Industry, you've got Seattle, you
- 1:35:50Speaker 12: got Kansas City, you got deeper, you got Detroit.
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: So again I'm like, of course it can happen. Anything
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: can happen, but don't judge it by whether they want
- 1:36:05Speaker 3: or lost the game. Judge it by how he performed
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: against those defenses. And like, so we know how he
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: performed against Seattle. Let's see how this year, if he's
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: any better, and just how he handles it. To me,
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: that's improvement if he handles it better. Yeah, yeah, I
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: just yeah, so we'll see. I mean, listen, anything, but
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: I I just think he's going to be better. But
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: and I think it's a mental thing. We've already seen
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: the physical tools, Like it's hard to improve on that
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: what we saw. I think he's going to be better.
- 1:36:38Speaker 8: So I going way back to the start of the
- 1:36:41Speaker 8: late I'm going to say the way that Fred just
- 1:36:44Speaker 8: explained that, I agree with you. Now I'm gonna I'll
- 1:36:48Speaker 8: change my stance if you're just going to say, like
- 1:36:51Speaker 8: he'll be better because he's going to know more and
- 1:36:54Speaker 8: all that, Like, yeah, I agree with the way Fred
- 1:36:57Speaker 8: put that. I'm just talking about the overall per Yeah.
- 1:37:01Speaker 8: I can't imagine he's going to be better than that.
- 1:37:03Speaker 8: I think that is a career type year.
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: He's going to be a better all around quarterback.
- 1:37:07Speaker 8: This but he might be better with worse, you know, right, Well,
- 1:37:10Speaker 8: That's that's what I'm wondering, is because we know what
- 1:37:12Speaker 8: his weaknesses were.
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: We know when he wasn't on last year. And I
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: don't kind of forget about the playoffs. I feel the payoffs,
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: but I don't even when he was in the season,
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: like when he was hitting, you know, especially his rookie year,
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: but when he had some slow moments. That's what I'm wondering.
- 1:37:25Speaker 2: What does it look like if Drake regresses a little
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: bit next year, like you know, is it you'll know?
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: And I think the mental thing you.
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: Saw fred is is great because that's where I would
- 1:37:33Speaker 2: expect him to improve, is to you know, not have
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: to always take the shot, like to take the to
- 1:37:38Speaker 2: take the profit as they say, And you know, does
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: he have that mental toughness.
- 1:37:42Speaker 8: Over the course of the bail out of the pocket
- 1:37:44Speaker 8: and look to you know, like yeah, that kind of stuff.
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: I mean, listen, Yeah, you always hate to say anything
- 1:37:52Speaker 3: about Brady because there's no comparison, but he had bad
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: games he had or stretches of games where he wasn't
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: playing well. Did, but his was the opposite. It wasn't
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: the mental thing. It was something else was going on
- 1:38:03Speaker 3: that pissed him off and he was getting frustrated or whatever.
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: You know. So, but every quarterback, every good quarterback, doesn't
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: always have good games. But it's it's it's your pattern.
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: It's it's how you how you you know, yeah, string
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: it together and become consistent out there.
- 1:38:21Speaker 2: I'm so interested to just, you know, Paul to his point,
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: I'm so excited to get back out there, just to
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: see Drake again, because you know, unfortunately the end of
- 1:38:29Speaker 2: the year on a down note, and even though they won,
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: you know, three playoff games and they didn't play great
- 1:38:34Speaker 2: in the Super Bowl, but that left kind of a
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: bad taste in your mouth. And you're not sitting in
- 1:38:38Speaker 2: this offseason thinking about all the MVP throws he had.
- 1:38:41Speaker 2: You're thinking about all the misses and you know, the
- 1:38:44Speaker 2: lack of production in the playoffs, and you know, so
- 1:38:47Speaker 2: to get back out there and to you know, get
- 1:38:49Speaker 2: a sense of him being renewed and trying to get
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: back to that level that and the confidence that he
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: had in the mid season, you know, it's just like
- 1:38:56Speaker 2: I want to see it. I want to see us
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: put that playoff run, which sounds weird because you went
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: to this super Bowl, but you got to put those
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: performances behind you and and you know, kind of hit
- 1:39:04Speaker 2: the reset button and like him.
- 1:39:05Speaker 8: Thinking about better because I don't think there was a
- 1:39:07Speaker 8: lot of bad throws in the playoffs. It was just
- 1:39:10Speaker 8: like it seemed like he was confused more often in
- 1:39:12Speaker 8: the playoffs than we saw during the year.
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: Comes blitz off the edge and I didn't see that coming.
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: Patty's inn Aga, Hey, Patty.
- 1:39:20Speaker 20: Hey, good afternoon, guys. I just wanted to see if
- 1:39:25Speaker 20: you guys read or or heard the quote that Kevin
- 1:39:29Speaker 20: Byrd gave to Diana Russini yesterday after he signed or
- 1:39:33Speaker 20: after he agreed to sign with the Patriots.
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: Is that the one where he came here for vrabel?
- 1:39:40Speaker 8: No?
- 1:39:40Speaker 20: He She asked him what what he thought about joining
- 1:39:43Speaker 20: the Patriots, and he said, yeah, we're getting the band
- 1:39:45Speaker 20: back together. And I kind of extrapolated from that that
- 1:39:48Speaker 20: maybe they are going to trade for a J.
- 1:39:50Speaker 3: Brown.
- 1:39:51Speaker 20: But that's my question. Did you guys get any sense
- 1:39:54Speaker 20: of that? And I'll take it off there.
- 1:39:56Speaker 3: Okay, Well she isn't She also the one that reported
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: it's on the back burner. The A J.
- 1:40:01Speaker 7: Brown trade that was Chad Grouse. Oh, that's fact same.
- 1:40:04Speaker 8: I think that's the same outlet though, right doesn't Diuniver
- 1:40:07Speaker 8: do the athletic.
- 1:40:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not I've lost track.
- 1:40:12Speaker 8: That's that's a good pick up, you know, Like yeah,
- 1:40:15Speaker 8: I kind of looked at it as like there's seventeen
- 1:40:17Speaker 8: other titles on the roster already.
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: But I'm not here to tell you that you're wrong.
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: Maybe A J.
- 1:40:23Speaker 7: Brown was what he was talking about.
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe maybe Rabel has a little bit of Bill
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: Belichick in him and that he's going to do anything
- 1:40:29Speaker 3: he can to piss off the Titans ownership. You know,
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: I see I I took the guys that I had.
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: Now look what I'm doing with them.
- 1:40:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I kind of have to say they're just real
- 1:40:41Speaker 2: quick aside, Like I kind of like what the Titans
- 1:40:43Speaker 2: are doing this year, But every time the Bills have
- 1:40:44Speaker 2: made a move, I'm like, what like I and not
- 1:40:47Speaker 2: that I'm like rooting for the Bills or you know.
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: What the Bills do that you were confused by, Bradley not.
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: I just I don't get like it seems like they're
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: desperate to me, like Bradley Chubb.
- 1:40:57Speaker 12: More.
- 1:40:57Speaker 8: Oh, I like the Dj Moore tree. You know they
- 1:40:59Speaker 8: needed a while receiver. They did need one, but I
- 1:41:01Speaker 8: think that's their Romeo Dobbs. They needed a competent NFL player.
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: And it feels desperate to me, Like it feels like that.
- 1:41:08Speaker 8: But if that's what it was they needed, like, it's
- 1:41:11Speaker 8: not desperate like they re signed.
- 1:41:13Speaker 7: That's boring for him.
- 1:41:15Speaker 3: I think they traded a lot to Dj Moore, I
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: mean a pick swap.
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: More than the Patriots gave up for Dobbs.
- 1:41:22Speaker 3: Is Youngers was in the trade.
- 1:41:24Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, like, I know what which he gave
- 1:41:27Speaker 8: him twenty million a year.
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: He's mercurial.
- 1:41:30Speaker 7: I mean, we could just get into it. I like it.
- 1:41:32Speaker 8: I don't.
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: I'm just I like I like the thinking.
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: I'm just waiting for you to say something that makes sense.
- 1:41:38Speaker 2: I don't like their moves. I don't like their moves.
- 1:41:40Speaker 4: I think they've been all their talent they have, and
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: I think if it made money.
- 1:41:45Speaker 2: I don't know what the numbers were, because I would
- 1:41:47Speaker 2: say that's a bad thing.
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: That time.
- 1:41:51Speaker 7: I didn't even know he had I didn't even know
- 1:41:53Speaker 7: if they signed.
- 1:41:53Speaker 3: There's evidence, and I have mine tuned to everything that's
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: bad about the bills, So that's supposed to come in
- 1:41:58Speaker 3: my timeline like.
- 1:41:59Speaker 8: I would have Joey. They botha come back. Then signed
- 1:42:01Speaker 8: Bradley Chubb. If they gave him any money. Yeah, Now
- 1:42:03Speaker 8: if if they didn't have to pay him any money,
- 1:42:05Speaker 8: then that's that's a veteran move.
- 1:42:07Speaker 7: To me, that's fine.
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: I just to me, it feels like they are to me.
- 1:42:11Speaker 8: I think given his relationship with Joe Brady, it makes.
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: A lot of sense to me for Buffalo three forty
- 1:42:17Speaker 2: three point five up to fifty two point five twenty
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: nine three years for how much forty three up to
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: fifty two forty three point five up to forty.
- 1:42:24Speaker 8: Three three year, So fourteen million a year, that's a lot.
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: That's a lot.
- 1:42:29Speaker 7: I don't like that. I can draft well, I think
- 1:42:31Speaker 7: that's a bad move. I'm with Mike.
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: They drafted poorly and now they're just they have to
- 1:42:36Speaker 2: DJ Moore.
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: He's available, let's you know, and.
- 1:42:38Speaker 7: Yes, you can talk to be a stiff, you're not.
- 1:42:41Speaker 7: He pouted last year for whatever reason, pouted a lot.
- 1:42:44Speaker 8: I mean, I mean he was traded, but with Joe
- 1:42:46Speaker 8: Brady he was very productive. So now he's back, and
- 1:42:50Speaker 8: a lot of it was. He was happy girl till
- 1:42:53Speaker 8: let they they lost everybody and they sold off all
- 1:42:56Speaker 8: their pieces. They traded McCaffrey, they traded Brian Burns, they
- 1:42:59Speaker 8: traded Dj Moore.
- 1:43:00Speaker 7: They say they traded all their pieces.
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: I don't like what the listen.
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: I agree with your overall premise. They're desperate, but.
- 1:43:06Speaker 2: They have desperation at all morrhagy and they're like twenty
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: nine year old husbands that like.
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: They got a new stadium. They got a new stadium
- 1:43:14Speaker 3: opening up.
- 1:43:15Speaker 7: But Kevin Byern at thirty three is a great signing.
- 1:43:18Speaker 2: Yes, but he's one of eight. It's one of eight.
- 1:43:21Speaker 8: I agree, he's a great signing. Like I totally agree,
- 1:43:24Speaker 8: there's no desperation there. He's way better than Jalen Hawkins,
- 1:43:27Speaker 8: just like DJ Moore is way better than Khalil Shakier.
- 1:43:29Speaker 8: They needed a competent NFL receiver like I do him,
- 1:43:33Speaker 8: get it. I don't like it, Okay, all right? I
- 1:43:38Speaker 8: mean people act like they went five and twelve and
- 1:43:40Speaker 8: not twelve and five. They sucked and went twelve and five.
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: Oh it's this, Paul, It's that they're doing what happened
- 1:43:45Speaker 2: to the Patriots. They haven't drafted well and now they're
- 1:43:48Speaker 2: trying to re lot and make their team.
- 1:43:49Speaker 3: They see the.
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: Stars and when you place it, when you get lose
- 1:43:54Speaker 2: Tom Brady, you think they're.
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: Buying high, buying low on Dj Moore right now? Like
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: are they gonna get that?
- 1:44:00Speaker 7: It's like, what's that?
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: He's gonna be the guy that puts them over the edge.
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: They can't even throw the ball down the field.
- 1:44:06Speaker 8: What's what's over the edge? I don't really understand this
- 1:44:08Speaker 8: to get to the super Bowl? They better were a
- 1:44:10Speaker 8: super receiver than they were last year.
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: They're a little bit better maybe for the moment, but
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: we might get into.
- 1:44:14Speaker 7: The season and be like they're not.
- 1:44:16Speaker 8: They're not building for twenty twenty nine. They're building for
- 1:44:19Speaker 8: twenty twenty six. They're better than they were last year
- 1:44:22Speaker 8: and are at that position. Yeah, but they have Bosa
- 1:44:28Speaker 8: is gone.
- 1:44:28Speaker 7: Now at Oliver can't play.
- 1:44:30Speaker 8: I mean I thought that was to last so you
- 1:44:33Speaker 8: could steal all his cap space like I.
- 1:44:36Speaker 3: Let Gilliam go. So do you like?
- 1:44:38Speaker 11: You?
- 1:44:38Speaker 3: Like?
- 1:44:38Speaker 2: You like what they've done? You think Buffalo is on
- 1:44:40Speaker 2: the upswing right now? Is that what you're because I'm
- 1:44:42Speaker 2: just saying I don't like what they've done. I feel
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: like they're circling toilet right now.
- 1:44:45Speaker 8: I gotta be completely honest here. I'll be completely honest.
- 1:44:48Speaker 8: I have no idea what Buffalo's doing right now. I
- 1:44:50Speaker 8: don't follow them, I don't cover them. All I can
- 1:44:53Speaker 8: tell you is the DJ Moortrade gives them a receiver they.
- 1:44:55Speaker 7: Didn't have last year.
- 1:44:56Speaker 8: I'll agree with you, there's no one even closes on
- 1:44:59Speaker 8: that roster as good as he is today. It's like
- 1:45:02Speaker 8: Diggs was for the Patriots last year. They didn't have
- 1:45:05Speaker 8: anybody even approaching Digs. That's why that was a great signing. No,
- 1:45:08Speaker 8: I like, if it's desperate, Okay, I don't know they Yeah,
- 1:45:11Speaker 8: they didn't have any receivers and they have Josh Allen.
- 1:45:14Speaker 8: That's the difference between the Patriots in twenty twenty in
- 1:45:17Speaker 8: the Bills right like they didn't have Tom Brady anymore
- 1:45:20Speaker 8: in nineteen when they drafted poorly and sucked. They won
- 1:45:23Speaker 8: how many games twelve? You lose Brady, you suck. I
- 1:45:29Speaker 8: lose Josh Allen he gets hurt in Week two, they'll suck.
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: I will take the Patriots off season over the Bills
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: off season. I will take the Patriots last draft draft.
- 1:45:37Speaker 3: That's apples, gpefruits.
- 1:45:39Speaker 2: But when you have to go out and your whole
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: thing is like, is Romeo Dobbs like the savior of
- 1:45:43Speaker 2: this team right now?
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: No, we're talking about I wonder.
- 1:45:46Speaker 8: If they want I just pushed back like what they did.
- 1:45:49Speaker 8: Wonder how much they traded from the fifth round to
- 1:45:52Speaker 8: the second round to get DJ Moore.
- 1:45:53Speaker 3: He's not the safe. I wonder how much cash they
- 1:45:57Speaker 3: have available for spending.
- 1:45:58Speaker 7: That's why I say it's apples a grape fruit whole stadium.
- 1:46:02Speaker 3: I wonder, like what their position is to spend cash.
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: I'm just I'm not I don't know. I'm not threatened
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: at all what the Bills are doing.
- 1:46:11Speaker 3: I think Josh Allen, that's why I said we should
- 1:46:13Speaker 3: have the Ages because they're the they're the there's been
- 1:46:15Speaker 3: the division champs up until last year.
- 1:46:17Speaker 8: This is the team because they had because that's your
- 1:46:20Speaker 8: primary rival. That's what I think their own space in
- 1:46:23Speaker 8: your head. No, for no reason whatsoever, they don't was
- 1:46:26Speaker 8: the one who's.
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: Been talking about the wind.
- 1:46:27Speaker 3: I think he's and I finally, finally, I think he's reveling.
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: Finally, come on, And I'm not even because I do
- 1:46:34Speaker 2: respect Josh Allen, but I have to say, but matters.
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: And I'm looking at the Patriots. They just went to
- 1:46:39Speaker 2: the super Bowl with Drake May You have been to
- 1:46:41Speaker 2: the super Bowl since the nineties. What you wouldn't give
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: to get to the super Bowl and just get blown out?
- 1:46:45Speaker 2: Like I think the whole way that this is the only.
- 1:46:48Speaker 8: Time that I can ever remember. You sounded like Sully.
- 1:46:52Speaker 8: You saw like Johnny Sullivan in selfie, like I have.
- 1:46:56Speaker 8: They sucked, they would killed to bous like.
- 1:46:58Speaker 7: They don't wan to be better. They just so that's
- 1:47:01Speaker 7: all they want to.
- 1:47:02Speaker 3: But I feel like I feel like, like I think
- 1:47:06Speaker 3: this is awesome. I like it.
- 1:47:09Speaker 8: This is the side of Mike. I've never seen it. Like,
- 1:47:11Speaker 8: I'm sorry, I wish they didn't save it till.
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: The end of the show. This is awesome. I'm starting
- 1:47:15Speaker 3: my GoFundMe to get the billboard. It's gonna be the
- 1:47:18Speaker 3: It's gonna be the bare naked Patriots ass with the
- 1:47:20Speaker 3: words how's the view? How's the view?
- 1:47:24Speaker 8: You get a bunch of like veteran guys that they're
- 1:47:26Speaker 8: they're gonna move on from and yeah, like they're they're
- 1:47:30Speaker 8: not They're not as good as they've been. I totally agree,
- 1:47:32Speaker 8: they're not as good as they've been. Like Taron Johnson
- 1:47:35Speaker 8: and Matt Mulonal, those guys, they're not part of the
- 1:47:38Speaker 8: they're not part of the team anymore.
- 1:47:40Speaker 3: Old when all the teams used to have newspapers, we
- 1:47:43Speaker 3: had Patriots Football Weekly, the Bills had one. It was
- 1:47:46Speaker 3: called Shout. It's called and now if they had it
- 1:47:51Speaker 3: would be out because they're out, we're in.
- 1:47:54Speaker 8: I don't think that they're there. I said it the
- 1:47:57Speaker 8: whole season last year. I just don't think they're all
- 1:47:59Speaker 8: that talented.
- 1:48:00Speaker 2: Yeah, no, they're not. I mean, do you feel like
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: the Bills organization was kind of like what the hell?
- 1:48:04Speaker 3: Oh yeah, decision. I just don't see.
- 1:48:10Speaker 8: But that's my different thing. Like I don't see anything
- 1:48:13Speaker 8: they've done that's been bad. They're definitely not as talented.
- 1:48:16Speaker 3: But have they done as much as they should have done?
- 1:48:19Speaker 7: Maybe they did as much as they could have done
- 1:48:21Speaker 7: for the reason.
- 1:48:22Speaker 2: That that's a good one.
- 1:48:23Speaker 8: That's like they don't have the cap space that the
- 1:48:26Speaker 8: Raiders have, Like they couldn't afford to take Max Crosby
- 1:48:30Speaker 8: back like I mean, they could, but they wouldn't because
- 1:48:34Speaker 8: of the stadium in the cash you don't want to
- 1:48:38Speaker 8: you know, no, Like I'm I think your point about
- 1:48:40Speaker 8: the stadium is valid, but they're not as good as
- 1:48:45Speaker 8: they have been. I just don't think that DJ Moore
- 1:48:47Speaker 8: is like a sign of desperation, like you have no
- 1:48:49Speaker 8: players and you need to you need to find some
- 1:48:51Speaker 8: players desperate.
- 1:48:54Speaker 7: Well, okay, if I.
- 1:48:55Speaker 8: Guess that that's the definition of desperation. Players is desperation. Okay.
- 1:49:01Speaker 2: You know, also to poblic we talk about injuries. I
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: mean badly Chubb, he's play. Chubb's a bad missed the
- 1:49:06Speaker 2: whole season in twenty twenty four place twenty.
- 1:49:08Speaker 7: Two million a year. That's a bad sign. You know,
- 1:49:11Speaker 7: it's just bad, don't.
- 1:49:13Speaker 8: I don't have any great I don't have any gray
- 1:49:15Speaker 8: area that if they signed him for fourteen million a year.
- 1:49:17Speaker 3: But they like that, that's a bad old rush pass rushers.
- 1:49:20Speaker 8: Yeah, but I think that you do him on like
- 1:49:22Speaker 8: a one year deal, like like Joey Bosa last year
- 1:49:24Speaker 8: he did. He wasn't great for them, But I can
- 1:49:27Speaker 8: understand that three for for forty three whatever, that's that's
- 1:49:30Speaker 8: a bad deal.
- 1:49:32Speaker 2: Why can't I think of their desperate rather edge that
- 1:49:34Speaker 2: they just drafted that hasn't really worked out too. I've
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: been blanking.
- 1:49:37Speaker 3: Greg Russo Russ He's okay.
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: He's okay, but he's They're they're in desperate need of
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: a good draft and you know, has some young talent
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: come in and pop and you know, to have that
- 1:49:47Speaker 2: player that maybe they thought Kincaid was going to be
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: when they took him in the first round. It's like,
- 1:49:50Speaker 2: all right, this is going to be our weapon tight end.
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: We can move around for allen.
- 1:49:54Speaker 3: Free agent or draft guys. You don't want to go
- 1:49:57Speaker 3: to Buffalo Patriots new facility. Do you see this facility?
- 1:50:01Speaker 3: This is where you want to who cares once a week?
- 1:50:07Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:50:07Speaker 2: I noticed they have like this kind of gradient thing
- 1:50:09Speaker 2: going on with their with their seats, so it's kind
- 1:50:11Speaker 2: of like a red and blue aut It just looks
- 1:50:13Speaker 2: kind of cool, like visually how they painted.
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: Because you'll see those seats a lot because nobody will
- 1:50:17Speaker 3: be in them. March in Rhode Island. What's up Mark? Mark? Well,
- 1:50:25Speaker 3: Hi Mark, Yes, Yes, it's your turn to talk.
- 1:50:29Speaker 14: Awesome.
- 1:50:30Speaker 21: How are you guys?
- 1:50:31Speaker 3: Good? Aggressive? Just kidding with you?
- 1:50:34Speaker 21: Yeah, this is my first time calling. I've been a
- 1:50:36Speaker 21: listener since last year. You guys do an awesome job
- 1:50:38Speaker 21: than you start off with that, all right. Second of all,
- 1:50:41Speaker 21: I got a point I have thought of that I
- 1:50:43Speaker 21: have not heard mentioned anywhere that I think is really important,
- 1:50:47Speaker 21: and I feel like it's really slept on. All right,
- 1:50:50Speaker 21: So everybody wants to help Drake may right, they think
- 1:50:52Speaker 21: of the line wide receiver number one wide receiver. All right,
- 1:50:56Speaker 21: that's all valid. You know what they're not talking about.
- 1:51:00Speaker 21: Getting blocking for the running backs and getting the running
- 1:51:03Speaker 21: back room going and picking up Reggie Gilliam is huge.
- 1:51:08Speaker 21: And also the guy from Miami there, that's that's major.
- 1:51:11Speaker 21: Like we weren't consistent with running the ball when we
- 1:51:14Speaker 21: could run the ball good. I mean, Trevion is ripping
- 1:51:17Speaker 21: runs off down the field and Stevenson was bowling. But
- 1:51:20Speaker 21: that's got to be more consistent. You get a dangerous
- 1:51:24Speaker 21: run attack with wheremondre Stevenson and Trevion Henderson going, and
- 1:51:27Speaker 21: then those linebackers cheat up. Then Drake will start cooking
- 1:51:32Speaker 21: on those deep shots. Sure like that is just not
- 1:51:34Speaker 21: talked about at all, and it bothers me, honestly, because
- 1:51:37Speaker 21: I love seeing Trey Beon and m Andre and those
- 1:51:39Speaker 21: guys cooking.
- 1:51:41Speaker 3: That's where AVT comes in in a better offensive line.
- 1:51:44Speaker 3: I mean, if you can have that balance, if you
- 1:51:46Speaker 3: can keep the defenses honest where they have to defend
- 1:51:50Speaker 3: the whole field, then the offense has the upper hand. Yeah,
- 1:51:55Speaker 3: and that's that's that's good point, Mark, thank you.
- 1:51:58Speaker 2: Two. To Mar's point, I mean I mentioned I just
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: they weren't a good team in short yardage last year.
- 1:52:01Speaker 2: Goal line, you know, and the hope is that those
- 1:52:04Speaker 2: guys can help them get those that kind of short
- 1:52:07Speaker 2: yard is But you know, I agree with the point.
- 1:52:08Speaker 2: I mean, that's what I said last season. They're sitting
- 1:52:11Speaker 2: there being like, man, it'd be nice to have a
- 1:52:12Speaker 2: real full back. You know, those are little details that.
- 1:52:15Speaker 3: You couldn't really round out until probably see two Tom
- 1:52:18Speaker 3: and New Jersey about the Bills or the new Patriots argument.
- 1:52:22Speaker 3: The Bill's DJ More trade is like the Patriots days
- 1:52:24Speaker 3: of getting SiNW and Cooks.
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: Well, I think he's better than Sinew.
- 1:52:29Speaker 8: But that was first of all, the Brandon Cooks deal
- 1:52:34Speaker 8: was an excellent deal for the page two thousand yards
- 1:52:36Speaker 8: he had.
- 1:52:37Speaker 7: It was an excellent trade for the Patriots. And if
- 1:52:39Speaker 7: DJ Moore.
- 1:52:43Speaker 8: Forget it, people can't be rational and objective, so I'm
- 1:52:47Speaker 8: not going to do it. DJ Moore was basically Romerio
- 1:52:50Speaker 8: Dobbs last year. He's like two years older. He makes
- 1:52:53Speaker 8: like four million dollars more like, I don't know. If
- 1:52:57Speaker 8: you want to just convince yourself that they stink, then
- 1:52:59Speaker 8: they so there's no accomplishment beating.
- 1:53:02Speaker 3: Them, then right, you need to convince me.
- 1:53:03Speaker 8: Right, So when when the Patriots beat the Bills, I
- 1:53:06Speaker 8: don't want to hear you tell me what a great
- 1:53:07Speaker 8: win that well they get up for us, you know,
- 1:53:09Speaker 8: I don't want to hear you tell me that that
- 1:53:11Speaker 8: was a great win. Some of all, some of us
- 1:53:15Speaker 8: on this show on the week five Sunday Night Game
- 1:53:18Speaker 8: picked the Patriots to beat the Bills in Buffalo, And
- 1:53:22Speaker 8: by us, I mean me I was the one that
- 1:53:25Speaker 8: did that.
- 1:53:27Speaker 2: There you go, Well, can you think that they're just
- 1:53:30Speaker 2: trending downward and you don't think they stink yet?
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: But they're not.
- 1:53:35Speaker 7: They don't stink. They are eleven twelve win team.
- 1:53:37Speaker 2: As long as Josh is going to have to lose
- 1:53:39Speaker 2: a lim for them to get that's what it's going
- 1:53:42Speaker 2: to take.
- 1:53:43Speaker 7: Great, as long as maybe the referee he calls the play.
- 1:53:47Speaker 8: As long as you have one of the top five
- 1:53:49Speaker 8: back out of the playoffs two years in a row
- 1:53:50Speaker 8: by the officials.
- 1:53:52Speaker 3: Elfham, Wisconsin. You know, normally I would worry about the
- 1:53:55Speaker 3: injury for a v T. However, if there is one
- 1:53:58Speaker 3: organization that I could be convince that has a training
- 1:54:01Speaker 3: program that's actively bad for players, that be the Jets.
- 1:54:05Speaker 3: So that's probably why he's.
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: I tried to look, he only played a couple of
- 1:54:11Speaker 2: years that UH at USC and I think the twenty
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: twenty season was COVID, so it's short, and I was
- 1:54:15Speaker 2: trying to see, like where the injuries go back to college.
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: Didn't seem like it, But I don't know.
- 1:54:19Speaker 3: All right, Q's in Atlanta. What's up? Q?
- 1:54:24Speaker 10: Hey, guys, I got some smoke for a caller, and
- 1:54:27Speaker 10: also all the Twitter GMS and just pretty much all
- 1:54:30Speaker 10: those games in general. I know we're excited. I know
- 1:54:33Speaker 10: it's the off season, but guys, please just let the
- 1:54:36Speaker 10: people that do their jobs do their jobs. I forgot
- 1:54:38Speaker 10: who called in earlier. Instead, well, Mike Brabels should call
- 1:54:42Speaker 10: the raiven because we know Elliot Wolf doesn't do anything
- 1:54:44Speaker 10: like he's sitting in the building, sitting in the meeting
- 1:54:46Speaker 10: is just shut up and enjoy the off season.
- 1:54:48Speaker 12: Thank you.
- 1:54:49Speaker 3: Okay, that's wow.
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: That's not fun.
- 1:54:52Speaker 3: Wow, little little collar smoke there.
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: As he said, you like yelling about each other about DJ.
- 1:54:59Speaker 8: Right, But I actually liked the call of like, I
- 1:55:02Speaker 8: think they should be on the phone with Max from
- 1:55:04Speaker 8: Max Crosby. I think they should be like, I don't
- 1:55:06Speaker 8: think that's absolutely I don't think that was a bad call.
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: You should be on the phone, see what's up?
- 1:55:11Speaker 7: But I mean something.
- 1:55:13Speaker 3: Don't think every rock to see what's Don't you think.
- 1:55:15Speaker 8: Something dramatically changed Tuesday night? I don't see the raven
- 1:55:21Speaker 8: the Raiders getting two first round picks from Max Crosby. Now,
- 1:55:24Speaker 8: I think the price has had to have dropped.
- 1:55:26Speaker 3: They're desperate.
- 1:55:27Speaker 8: Now, I don't think they're desperate, not like Buffalo, but
- 1:55:34Speaker 8: I think that it's unrealistic for them to expect two first.
- 1:55:38Speaker 3: Round picks for him. Now, oh absolutely, maybe you were.
- 1:55:41Speaker 8: Into it, you know, like Dallas supposedly was willing to
- 1:55:43Speaker 8: give a one and a two. You know, the callers
- 1:55:47Speaker 8: suggested a two.
- 1:55:48Speaker 3: I don't. I don't know.
- 1:55:49Speaker 8: I kind of I would be skeptical that it's only
- 1:55:52Speaker 8: a two. But you don't know if you don't call
- 1:55:55Speaker 8: I liked that call that we got about why did
- 1:55:58Speaker 8: they Why did the Raiders want to trade?
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: Max Crosby. I mean that's a simple want.
- 1:56:03Speaker 3: He said I want to trade, and so he still
- 1:56:05Speaker 3: want out. I would have seen you.
- 1:56:07Speaker 7: So that's the that's the question you have to try
- 1:56:10Speaker 7: to figure out.
- 1:56:10Speaker 8: Is is he going to be a problem or is
- 1:56:14Speaker 8: he going to look at it and say, Okay, I
- 1:56:15Speaker 8: understand you did trade me. You did do what I
- 1:56:17Speaker 8: wanted to do when this was sort of extenuating circumstances.
- 1:56:20Speaker 8: I'll be I'll be a good soldier, I'll stay, I'll
- 1:56:23Speaker 8: play and then maybe we can figure out something next
- 1:56:26Speaker 8: year or no, I don't care, tough.
- 1:56:29Speaker 2: Break trade me right now.
- 1:56:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:56:31Speaker 8: And if that, if that ladder happens, I think the
- 1:56:34Speaker 8: guy that called with the second round pick like you
- 1:56:36Speaker 8: might be able to get him for far less than
- 1:56:38Speaker 8: the two firsts.
- 1:56:40Speaker 3: Robert says, that's the first time I seen Deuce go
- 1:56:43Speaker 3: back and forth. I didn't know he had it in him.
- 1:56:45Speaker 7: And it was one of my favorite moments.
- 1:56:47Speaker 8: And I'll let you a little peak, little peak behind
- 1:56:50Speaker 8: the curtain here. Mike went out at the break to
- 1:56:54Speaker 8: get a quick sandwich and I had said to Fred
- 1:56:57Speaker 8: that there was something about free agency or whatever that
- 1:57:00Speaker 8: you had said that I disagree with that.
- 1:57:02Speaker 2: Go.
- 1:57:02Speaker 8: I don't really like to argue with Mike because he's
- 1:57:03Speaker 8: not as fun to argue with as Evan, because Evan
- 1:57:05Speaker 8: is just so white about everything all the time.
- 1:57:08Speaker 2: He's a great guy to argue because yeah, no, I'll
- 1:57:11Speaker 2: just be like, no, you're right.
- 1:57:12Speaker 3: And then Fred was like, no, no, you should, you should.
- 1:57:14Speaker 2: Oh j what do you don't agree with me?
- 1:57:20Speaker 7: Paul, Well, this is how you should do free agency. Okay,
- 1:57:26Speaker 7: Like last year they blew it out of the water
- 1:57:28Speaker 7: and then they went to the Super Bowl.
- 1:57:30Speaker 2: I think if you're generally in a good place, I mean,
- 1:57:32Speaker 2: of course, if you have a huge need and there's
- 1:57:34Speaker 2: a player available at that position, I think you.
- 1:57:36Speaker 3: Should go for it.
- 1:57:36Speaker 2: But I would say I'd love to just generally speak
- 1:57:39Speaker 2: get out of free agency and not feel like we
- 1:57:41Speaker 2: have a huge hole, Like I know there's going to
- 1:57:43Speaker 2: be a whole perhaps, but they had generally feel like
- 1:57:47Speaker 2: we're gonna have to draft an edge to start. I mean,
- 1:57:48Speaker 2: it kind of feels right now to me like you
- 1:57:50Speaker 2: kind of don't need to draft the edge to start,
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: But that's just.
- 1:57:53Speaker 8: Yeah, and that's why I didn't really want to argue
- 1:57:55Speaker 8: about it, because I know we come out it from
- 1:57:57Speaker 8: different places, like I don't really necessart, like I can't
- 1:58:01Speaker 8: do the Patriots fan thing and just say like Reggie
- 1:58:03Speaker 8: Gilliam Championship, like so yeah, but you have a full
- 1:58:07Speaker 8: back now, so you can do X, Y and Z.
- 1:58:10Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't know Ned, North Carolina. Who
- 1:58:12Speaker 3: is That's what I thought Ned in North Carolina. I'm
- 1:58:17Speaker 3: behind the time listening to Tuesday's episode. Just heard Evan
- 1:58:22Speaker 3: say they were a team in the super Bowl, not
- 1:58:25Speaker 3: a super Bowl team. That is Andy's hat size plus one. Bravo. Evan, Well,
- 1:58:29Speaker 3: that's that was that was and is a is a
- 1:58:33Speaker 3: word for that when you turn things around like that.
- 1:58:36Speaker 3: There's actually a word that describes that wor wordplay. I
- 1:58:40Speaker 3: forget what it is though. Anyway, that's gonna be it
- 1:58:43Speaker 3: for this edition of Patriots. And that's it for the week.
- 1:58:48Speaker 3: But the news will keep coming during free agency and
- 1:58:51Speaker 3: we're gonna pretty soon turn our eyes to the Draft.
- 1:58:54Speaker 3: You've got the draft shows starting up next week. Next
- 1:58:58Speaker 3: week is going to be a big week for Patriots content.
- 1:59:00Speaker 3: So A J. Brown take my word for it, but
- 1:59:03Speaker 3: you see you next Tuesday.
- 1:59:07Speaker 22: Hey, this is Matist. Thanks for tuning into the show.
- 1:59:09Speaker 22: If you really want to help us, make sure you
