• 2:27
Speaker 2: James meanis the head of communications and public affairs for

Speaker 2: a lot of people in town for the bike event
• 2:47
Speaker 2: last week, or more coming in due to Regatta, well,
• 2:50
Speaker 2: the governor says, hold my beer, because he's bringing in

• 3:15
Speaker 2: Tell you about an event that's happening in Saint Albans.
• 3:17
Speaker 2: Starts a Thursday and we'll run through Monday. They call
• 3:22
Speaker 2: it the Moving Wall. Jerry mollaghan is the commander of
• 3:25
Speaker 2: VFW POS sixty four eighteen. He joins us this morning
• 3:28
Speaker 2: in the Jery Construction Studios. Push this button here, Jered.
• 3:31
Speaker 2: Good morning, Jerry, good morning, and welcome to the show.
• 3:34
Speaker 2: Good morning, So tell us about this wall.
• 3:37
Speaker 4: The Moving Wall is a half scale replica of the
• 3:41
Speaker 4: Vietnam Vetters Memorial in and Wasshington DCEE. It'll be arriving
• 3:47
Speaker 4: on Thursday morning around nine a nine am and we'll
• 3:52
Speaker 4: have it ready for viewing by about about noon or so.
• 3:57
Speaker 4: It's the Vietnam Vetters Memorial in War d C. Is
• 4:01
Speaker 4: the most visited war memorial in Washington, d C. And
• 4:07
Speaker 4: a lot of folks don't get a chance to visit
• 4:11
Speaker 4: the one in d C. So the moving wall was
• 4:16
Speaker 4: put together in nineteen eighty four for the purpose of
• 4:21
Speaker 4: providing a half scale replica of the Vietnam Vetters Memorial.
• 4:28
Speaker 4: And it's about two hundred and fifty feet long, about
• 4:34
Speaker 4: ten foot at the high point in the middle, and
• 4:36
Speaker 4: then it slopes down on both wings of the wall
• 4:41
Speaker 4: to a couple of feet on the ends of it.
• 4:46
Speaker 4: It's not been in the area for a very long time.
• 4:49
Speaker 4: As a matter of fact, I can't remember the last
• 4:52
Speaker 4: place it was in West Virginia, but anyway, it's been
• 4:56
Speaker 4: torn the country since nineteen eighty four. It's coming to
• 5:02
Speaker 4: us from a VFW post in North Carolina, and they'll
• 5:07
Speaker 4: be in town tomorrow night and then they'll bring the
• 5:16
Speaker 4: wall to the Saint Albans Shopping Center in right between
• 5:21
Speaker 4: the City Hall and the Kroger's and in the old
• 5:27
Speaker 4: Kmart parking lot, which is part of the old Saint
• 5:31
Speaker 4: Albans Mall and shopping center. I said, we'll be it'll
• 5:35
Speaker 4: be ready for viewing. It's beginning at noon on Thursday.
• 5:40
Speaker 4: We'll be having a opening ceremony on Saturdays beginning at
• 5:45
Speaker 4: eleven am and everyone's welcome. There's a connection to the
• 5:54
Speaker 4: Vietnam War, of course, by just a lot of West
• 5:57
Speaker 4: Virginia folks. So we're bringing it here for the community,
• 6:01
Speaker 4: and I'd like to invite everyone to come on out
• 6:04
Speaker 4: and be a part of the experience.
• 6:08
  Speaker 2: I don't I'm like you, Jerry, I don't know the
• 6:10
Speaker 2: last time it was in West Virginia. Maybe one of
• 6:12
Speaker 2: our listeners know, but I do know, and I'm gonna
• 6:15
Speaker 2: just take a guestimate here about twenty years ago. I
• 6:20
Speaker 2: can recall it coming to Logan, which is where I'm from,
• 6:24
Speaker 2: and I was on the radio down there at that time,
• 6:26
Speaker 2: and I do remember it came to the Fountain Place,
• 6:27
Speaker 2: Small and Logan. That may have been back since then. And
• 6:30
Speaker 2: I'm going to guess somewhere between fifteen to twenty years
• 6:32
Speaker 2: ago it was there, But like I said, it could
• 6:34
Speaker 2: have been back there since then. What does it mean
• 6:36
Speaker 2: to have this wall comes in Syrium.
• 6:39
Speaker 4: There's three hundred and eighty eight West Virginians on the wall,
• 6:47
Speaker 4: and of course there's over fifty eight thousand total ambs
• 6:52
Speaker 4: on the on the wall, and there's just a lot
• 6:59
Speaker 4: of family and friends that are connected to those uh
• 7:05
Speaker 4: service people that are that are on the wall. It's
• 7:08
Speaker 4: the like I said, the most visited war memorial in Washington, DC.
• 7:14
Speaker 4: And you can go online to the the Movingwall dot
• 7:19
Speaker 4: r G for the for the details of the Moving Wall.
• 7:24
Speaker 4: There's another website called Faces of the Wall. Just just
• 7:29
Speaker 4: do a search of Faces on the Wall and it
• 7:33
Speaker 4: lists it's got a picture of every service member and
• 7:38
Speaker 4: some details about them. Ah and it's all the Faces
• 7:44
Speaker 4: on the Wall. Also has a location of of what
• 7:47
Speaker 4: panels their name is on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. But
• 7:54
Speaker 4: it's uh, just a lot of folks in West Virginia
• 8:02
Speaker 4: that are have a personal connection to the war memorial itself.
• 8:09
Speaker 4: So it's going to be here for those folks and
• 8:13
Speaker 4: for other folks and for educational purposes also well.
• 8:17
Speaker 2: And it would be I think great for people to
• 8:19
Speaker 2: come out and see this because, as you said, it's
• 8:21
Speaker 2: not every day that you see something like that, and
• 8:23
Speaker 2: let's face the Jerry, a lot of folks may not
• 8:25
Speaker 2: make it the DC to see that in that particular memorial.
• 8:28
Speaker 2: And it's coming to the area and you've got plenty
• 8:29
Speaker 2: of opportunities because it's going to start on Thursdays. You
• 8:32
Speaker 2: said there's going to be opening ceremonies, I think, or
• 8:34
Speaker 2: they're gonna have ceremonies just to say on Saturday. And
• 8:37
Speaker 2: it's going to be there through Monday, right, And it's
• 8:39
Speaker 2: open twenty four Sat. Four hours, and there'll be security
• 8:42
Speaker 2: there and whatever, so people keep an eye on it.
• 8:45
Speaker 2: So it's a great opportunity. What do you think that
• 8:48
Speaker 2: people Jerry need to know or can learn from visiting
• 8:53
Speaker 2: this wall or from the Vietnam War in general.
• 8:55
Speaker 4: Well, the sacrifices of that the country has made in
• 9:05
Speaker 4: all wars is is is uh uh a high priority
• 9:13
Speaker 4: for our obligation to to recognize the.
• 9:22
  Speaker 2: The price of.
• 9:25
Speaker 4: Freedom, uh is what it boils down to, h. We're
• 9:31
Speaker 4: not able to exercise the rights that we have ah
• 9:39
Speaker 4: automatically or she not. You shouldn't feel that you have
• 9:47
Speaker 4: these rights just because you're a citizen of the United States.
• 9:53
Speaker 4: But there's just millions of service people that have sacrificed
• 9:57
Speaker 4: their lives for you to live in a country that's
• 10:08
Speaker 4: it's the freest country in the world, of course.
• 10:10
Speaker 2: Yeah. Well again, it's going to be at the former
• 10:14
Speaker 2: Kmart location in Saint Albans, open twenty four to seven
• 10:17
Speaker 2: will start Thursday and run through next Monday. So we
• 10:20
Speaker 2: urge everybody to go either no charge or anything like that,
• 10:23
Speaker 2: just go out and just kind of take it all
• 10:25
  Speaker 2: in right.
• 10:26
  Speaker 4: There's no it's it's it's there's no charge at all.
• 10:30
Speaker 4: And uh we're bringing it here for the public to
• 10:38
Speaker 4: visit and UH ask questions to research, to learn about
• 10:46
Speaker 4: the names the service members on the wall, and uh
• 10:54
Speaker 4: the people that are have a connection to the names
• 10:59
Speaker 4: on the wall. We're bringing it here for you and
• 11:05
Speaker 4: we'd like for you to take advantage of this opportunity.
• 11:08
Speaker 4: It's it's it's not going to be uh in the
• 11:13
  Speaker 4: area again.
• 11:15
Speaker 2: Who knows how long it'll be for a long time,
• 11:17
  Speaker 2: I don't think.
• 11:18
Speaker 4: And then then you don't get a chance to go
• 11:20
Speaker 4: to Washington, DC and.
• 11:21
Speaker 2: This is coming to you and and bring the young
• 11:24
Speaker 2: people out there as well, because they need to learn
• 11:25
Speaker 2: the experience. Jerry, we got to leave it there, Jerry Milihan,
• 11:28
Speaker 2: the commander of the VFWOS sixty four eighteen, appreciate you
• 11:31

Speaker 2: later on in the show. The new Kroger is set

Speaker 2: and he joins us now, good after, good morning. I

Speaker 2: never know what day it is because I do two
• 14:44
Speaker 2: shows or what time it is, so good morning, James,
• 14:46
Speaker 2: Welcome to the show.
• 14:47
Speaker 7: Hey, good morning, Dave. How are you.
• 14:49
Speaker 2: I'm doing fine. It grateful to have you here. So
• 14:51
Speaker 2: it officially opens tomorrow, but there's gonna be a little
• 14:55
Speaker 2: bit of a sneak preview, I think for the media today,
• 14:57
Speaker 2: we've heard a lot of hype about the story. You've
• 14:59
Speaker 2: been on the show talking about it. Tell us about
• 15:01
Speaker 2: this big stores you're getting set to open tomorrow morning
• 15:03
  Speaker 2: at eight am.
• 15:05
Speaker 7: Yes, that's right. We've got a ribbon cutting ceremony tomorrow
• 15:08
Speaker 7: at seven point thirty and doors will open at eight am.
• 15:12
Speaker 7: It's certainly an exciting time for Kroger. It's the first
• 15:15
Speaker 7: marketplace in the state of West Virginia, and you know,
• 15:19
Speaker 7: we've been working at it for quite a while. I
• 15:21
Speaker 7: know a lot of people have driven by and seeing
• 15:24
Speaker 7: this site and development, and tomorrow is when it officially opened,
• 15:27
Speaker 7: So we're really looking forward to it and welcoming the
• 15:30
Speaker 7: community too. It really is the best that Kroger has
• 15:32
Speaker 7: to offer. It's a big store about one hundred and
• 15:34
Speaker 7: twenty two thousand square feet, has everything you need. It's
• 15:38
Speaker 7: a one stop destination. It really is much more than
• 15:40
Speaker 7: just a grocery store. So we're really looking forward to it.
• 15:43
Speaker 2: And you talk about it being a marketplace in the
• 15:45
Speaker 2: first of its kind of West Virginia. You say, much
• 15:48
Speaker 2: more than a grocery store. What do we have besides
• 15:51
Speaker 2: cereals and lettuces and whatnot.
• 15:56
Speaker 7: Well, you'll have all your traditional grocery items, you'll have
• 15:58
Speaker 7: a lot more of them. The selection is significant. We
• 16:02
Speaker 7: have home goods and apparel. That's something different that the
• 16:06
Speaker 7: marketplace offers. We obviously have the pharmacy with it drive through,
• 16:09
Speaker 7: we have pickup services, Murray's Cheese, and there's a giant
• 16:13
Speaker 7: sushi destination. So all the sushi lovers out there will
• 16:16
Speaker 7: find all the sushi that they could possibly want to
• 16:18
Speaker 7: have at this Kroger marketplace.
• 16:20
Speaker 2: And I am one of those sushi lovers and cheese
• 16:22
Speaker 2: lovers as well, And I could tell you if it's
• 16:23
Speaker 2: anything like this, I live in tays Valley, James, and
• 16:26
Speaker 2: if it's anything like the Kroger there, I know this
• 16:28
Speaker 2: one's going to be quite a bit bigger. But if
• 16:30
Speaker 2: it's anything like the selection of sushi and the cheese
• 16:32
Speaker 2: as you have in the Tase Valley store, sign me up.
• 16:35
Speaker 7: It's going to be an amazing store. Interesting facts. Kroger
• 16:38
Speaker 7: is the largest seller of sushi in the country.
• 16:40
Speaker 2: No, really, we must love our sushi whole.
• 16:44
  Speaker 8: Lot of it.
• 16:44
  Speaker 9: Yeah.
• 16:45
Speaker 7: Yeah, West Virginians love sushi, and the store team's really
• 16:48
Speaker 7: excited to open the doors and really just have customers
• 16:51
Speaker 7: come in and see the beautiful, brand new store. It
• 16:54
Speaker 7: really is something to behold.
• 16:55
Speaker 2: How many people approximately are going to be employed by
• 16:58
Speaker 2: this store when it's up and running, well, of course
• 17:00
Speaker 2: it opens tomorrow morning, but approximately how many people will
• 17:02
  Speaker 2: be employed there?
• 17:04
Speaker 7: Three hundred and seven is three hundred and seven associates
• 17:07
Speaker 7: at that the new Marketplace store. So it's a big
• 17:10
Speaker 7: team and they're really proud of what we're going to offer.
• 17:13
Speaker 2: Three hundred of ants a lot. That's a lot of people.
• 17:15
Speaker 2: And I'm presuming the hiring process is continuing because you can,
• 17:18
Speaker 2: I guess you just go online if somebody wants information
• 17:20
Speaker 2: about a job there.
• 17:21
Speaker 7: That's correct Kroger dot com. There are positions available, and
• 17:25
Speaker 7: certainly appreciate you sharing that.
• 17:27
Speaker 2: Yeah, And of course the story is going to open
• 17:30
Speaker 2: tomorrow morning, and it's the first of it's kind of
• 17:33
Speaker 2: West Virginia. I'm just kind of curious, are there others
• 17:35
Speaker 2: like this planned in West Virginia or do you know
• 17:39
  Speaker 2: there are?
• 17:40
Speaker 7: We We have been investing in the state and will
• 17:43
Speaker 7: continue to invest in the states in the state, so
• 17:45
Speaker 7: there are more stores to come and use to share
• 17:49
Speaker 7: down the line. Absolutely, which we're really excited about.
• 17:51
Speaker 2: We're talking to James Beinize about this new Kroger that's
• 17:53
Speaker 2: going to open tomorrow, and of course I've had the
• 17:55
Speaker 2: officials from the City of South Charleston, I think Shan
• 17:58
Speaker 2: Zanaga and some other folks get to be here on
• 18:00
Speaker 2: Thursday to talk about it. We talked to the Mayor,
• 18:03
Speaker 2: Frank Mullins a lot. This is when you add that
• 18:05
Speaker 2: with all the other things that are going on, there's
• 18:10
Speaker 2: a lot of happenings in South Charleston with the other location,
• 18:12
Speaker 2: of the stores, of the restaurants coming in, all there
• 18:14
Speaker 2: in basically in one place.
• 18:17
Speaker 7: Absolutely, Mayor Mullins and his entire team City of South
• 18:20
Speaker 7: Charleston have been fantastic partners in getting this store built
• 18:24
Speaker 7: and ready to open. So we couldn't be more proud
• 18:26
Speaker 7: of our partnership with the city and really look forward
• 18:30
Speaker 7: to serving everyone who lives and works here, which we're
• 18:33
Speaker 7: really excited about. I should share Dave that the first
• 18:36
Speaker 7: five hundred customers tomorrow morning will receive a ten dollars
• 18:40
Speaker 7: gift card. So we expect a big crowd in the morning.
• 18:43
Speaker 7: We anticipate people lining up pretty early to get in
• 18:46
Speaker 7: when the doors open at eight. It's really going to
• 18:48
Speaker 7: be a big celebration of the community and Kroger opening
• 18:52
Speaker 7: the first marketplace here in South Charleston.
• 18:54
Speaker 2: I mean, I remember when ground was broken on this
• 18:56
Speaker 2: particular I'm talking about the entire facility, and we had
• 18:58
Speaker 2: Mayor Mullins and others on talking about it. It don't seem like, Okay,
• 19:02
Speaker 2: well this is going to happen at some point, but
• 19:03
  Speaker 2: it's here. I mean, it's it's happening. It's happening tomorrow.
• 19:06
Speaker 2: And I know there had to be some idea that
• 19:10
Speaker 2: you wanted to have it open. You got to have
• 19:12
Speaker 2: it open before the fourth of July, right and the
• 19:14
Speaker 2: America two fifty celebration.
• 19:16
  Speaker 7: It's a big that's a huge Fourth of July. So
• 19:19
Speaker 7: we'll have all sorts of specials for grilling needs. We've
• 19:22
Speaker 7: got seven ninety nine New York strips, which is a
• 19:25
Speaker 7: great deal ahead of the Fourth of July. Buy one,
• 19:28
Speaker 7: get one free, poor tender loins. I mean, there's all
• 19:30
Speaker 7: sorts of specials. We'll have twenty five percent off the
• 19:33
Speaker 7: service meet case so encourage everyone listening to come out
• 19:37
Speaker 7: and get all those grilling needs for the fourth of July.
• 19:39
Speaker 7: It's going to be a huge weekend and a huge
• 19:42
  Speaker 7: day tomorrow. Absolutely.
• 19:44
Speaker 2: And I want to talk about the Kroger footprint in
• 19:46
Speaker 2: West Virginia because you guys, how many stores do you
• 19:49
Speaker 2: have in West Virginia.
• 19:51
Speaker 7: We have thirty six stores in the state, employee more
• 19:55
Speaker 7: than thirty five hundred associates. And you know what's Kroger
• 20:00
Speaker 7: is really proud of is that we've been serving the
• 20:02
Speaker 7: state since nineteen twenty six. So this year we are
• 20:06
Speaker 7: celebrating one hundred years of service in the state of
• 20:09
Speaker 7: West Virginia, which is pretty amazing.
• 20:12
Speaker 2: And I don't know whether you know this or not,
• 20:14
Speaker 2: maybe you do, James, but am my hometown Logan. Originally
• 20:19
Speaker 2: there is an old building on Main Street that if
• 20:21
Speaker 2: you look up at the top of the facade, it
• 20:23
Speaker 2: still says Kroger on it. Now, it's been about three
• 20:25
Speaker 2: hundred things since then, But if you drive through Main
• 20:27
Speaker 2: Street downtown Logan, you look up to the top, you'll
• 20:30
Speaker 2: see a building there that still you can still plainly
• 20:32
Speaker 2: see the letters to say Kroger on it.
• 20:34
Speaker 7: That's great. We certainly have a proud history in the state,
• 20:38
Speaker 7: and we're looking forward to serving the state and the
• 20:41
Speaker 7: South Charleston community and really communities across West Virginia for
• 20:45
Speaker 7: one hundred years to come.
• 20:46
Speaker 2: I mean, you're going to be celebrating. You have a
• 20:47
Speaker 2: lot of folks coming from all around West Virginia for
• 20:49
Speaker 2: this thing. Tomorrow. Again, the first five hundred people that
• 20:52
Speaker 2: come in are going to get a ten dollars gift card.
• 20:54
Speaker 2: You're going to cut the ribbon tomorrow morning at seven thirty.
• 20:56
Speaker 2: But then eight o'clock the cash registers start ringing or
• 20:59
Speaker 2: buzzing and or dinging or whatever it is they do.
• 21:01
Speaker 7: Now, right, that's exactly right. We expect a great turnout
• 21:05
Speaker 7: and we're really excited about it.
• 21:07
Speaker 2: And somebody asked about the hours of the store. Do
• 21:10
Speaker 2: you have that information available seven to eleven? Okay, because
• 21:15
Speaker 2: I think somebody had asked if it was going to
• 21:16
Speaker 2: be open twenty four hours. But it's not going to
• 21:17
  Speaker 2: be open twenty.
• 21:18
Speaker 7: Four hours, not at this point though. We'll kick off
• 21:21
Speaker 7: tomorrow at eight and then the store will open at
• 21:23
Speaker 7: seven am going forward.
• 21:24
Speaker 2: All right, let me give you a little little text
• 21:28
Speaker 2: here if you don't mind it's just can you ask
• 21:30
Speaker 2: of Kroger of South Charleston or Kart to set up
• 21:33
Speaker 2: a new bus shuttle route for theirs for those folks
• 21:36
Speaker 2: that were in Dunbar. Yeah, that will now come to
• 21:40
Speaker 2: your store. So maybe maybe some sort of a shuttle
• 21:42
Speaker 2: or so, maybe you talk to Kart about that.
• 21:44
Speaker 7: Absolutely, and we are certainly looking into that.
• 21:47
Speaker 2: All right, Hey, James, I know you're busy and we're
• 21:49
Speaker 2: going to have you back on Metro News midday later
• 21:51
Speaker 2: today during the one o'clock hour, So I appreciate you
• 21:54
Speaker 2: being here to talk about this fantastic facility. It opens
• 21:56
Speaker 2: tomorrow morning, ribbon cutting at seven point thirty. You'll start
• 21:59
Speaker 2: doing business at eight o'clock tomorrow morning, and first five
• 22:02
Speaker 2: hundred people through the door get a ten dollars gift card.
• 22:06
Speaker 2: James Benisse of Kroger mad Atlantic, appreciate you being here man,
• 22:09
  Speaker 2: Thanks a lot.
• 22:10
Speaker 7: Hey, thanks a lot day, appreciate it. Look forward to
• 22:12
  Speaker 7: seeing everyone tomorrow.
• 22:13
Speaker 2: All right. It is a nine to thirty of a
• 22:15
Speaker 2: Dave Island Show on five Eddielive is brought to you
• 22:17
Speaker 2: aparted by the all New Generations Ford of Hurricane Visit
• 22:20
Speaker 2: Generations Forward dot Com. Yeah, I mean, you talk about
• 22:23
Speaker 2: this entire facility out there, and I've been talking to
• 22:27
Speaker 2: Mayor Frank Mullins about this and the other Shanzan again
• 22:30
Speaker 2: the other people from the city of South Charleston on
• 22:31
Speaker 2: the show for the last couple of years. And when
• 22:34
Speaker 2: they first talked about this particular Kroger location opening up
• 22:37
Speaker 2: and the first of it's kind of West Virginia because
• 22:39
Speaker 2: it does have home goods and all these other things there,
• 22:42
Speaker 2: people were just kind of like, Wow, that's a Kroger,
• 22:45
Speaker 2: And yeah, it's a Kroger and it is a huge,
• 22:49
Speaker 2: huge facility. I don't know whether you have had a
• 22:51
Speaker 2: chance to drive by it or not, but it's it's
• 22:53
Speaker 2: absolutely huge, and it's going to open tomorrow and employeeing
• 22:56
Speaker 2: close to four hundred people in West Virginia. So getting
• 23:00
Speaker 2: getting it all done there at Kroger tomorrow. I appreciate
• 23:03
Speaker 2: some of mister Manes, who is the head of Communications
• 23:07
Speaker 2: of public affairs for Krogert mid Atlantic, for being on

• 24:59
Speaker 2: That means ten years of trust, ten years of service,
• 25:02
Speaker 2: and ten years of building lasting relationships with drivers throughout
• 25:05
Speaker 2: our community. So what's the secret to longevity in the
• 25:08
Speaker 2: car business. Well, if you ask Gene and Ryan, they're
• 25:11
Speaker 2: going to tell you that it's pretty simple. You see.
• 25:13
Speaker 2: That's because they built their business the old fashioned way
• 25:16
Speaker 2: by making friends. There are no gimmicks or games at Walker,
• 25:19
Speaker 2: just honest, fair deals. Like right now, you can take

Speaker 2: that the Staten County School Board should consider bringing the

• 27:28
Speaker 2: exhibit to the civic Center. Kids from different counties need
• 27:32
Speaker 2: to see that because a lot of them don't know
• 27:35
Speaker 2: anything about that morning, the day of all days, really
• 27:39
Speaker 2: needs to be remembered, or that history is now twenty
• 27:42
Speaker 2: nine hundred and seventy seven souls lost that morning will
• 27:44
Speaker 2: be forgotten or rewritten. Just look at what's happening in
• 27:47
Speaker 2: this country right now. Tex says, looks like the new
• 27:50
Speaker 2: Kroger gas pumps have been opened for a few weeks
• 27:52
Speaker 2: now TECH certainly looking into that would have been nice
• 27:57
Speaker 2: to consider before their grand reopening. Just saying, Kroger, giveth Kroger,
• 28:01
Speaker 2: taketh away. Thanks for asking the question. I'm sure that
• 28:04
Speaker 2: people have dunbar appreciate it. The park Place development is
• 28:11
Speaker 2: really taking place in South Charleston. Any thought to see
• 28:14
Speaker 2: a frequent critic, Howard Swint, has changed his tune on
• 28:16
Speaker 2: the project. Well, Mitch Swint's been on the show before,
• 28:18
Speaker 2: and he's more than welcome to come back on the
• 28:20
Speaker 2: show anytime he wants. Also welcome on the show anytime
• 28:24
Speaker 2: he wants. Look at him. It's Rod Blackstone. How you doing, man?
• 28:27
Speaker 3: Oh, I'm doing all right. It's a beautiful day for baseball,
• 28:29
Speaker 3: or at least it will be starting this afternoon.
• 28:31
  Speaker 9: Yeah.
• 28:31
Speaker 2: I looked outside a little bit earlier for the show.
• 28:33
Speaker 2: A little cloudy, a little damp here, but that's all
• 28:35
Speaker 2: gonna dry off and we should have a good night
• 28:37
Speaker 2: to baseball, good couple nights of baseball to the ballpark sports.
• 28:41
Speaker 2: The Birds are back at Goodmart Ballpark tonight and they're
• 28:43
Speaker 2: going to begin a long homestand against York and we'll
• 28:45
Speaker 2: run down all the special nights and because there's something
• 28:48
Speaker 2: going on every night. But you are excited to talk
• 28:50
Speaker 2: about this. Baseball for Us.
• 28:53
Speaker 3: Yes, Baseball for Us is sort of an expansion of
• 28:56
Speaker 3: African American Heritage Night that we've done for the last
• 28:58
Speaker 3: seven years. We were the first sports organization in West
• 29:01
Speaker 3: Virginia to be able to say, hey, we want to
• 29:03
Speaker 3: celebrate all the different parts of our population, especially those
• 29:08
Speaker 3: that are underrepresented at ballparks and especially at baseball parks.
• 29:11
Speaker 3: So we've had three special days every year for the
• 29:14
Speaker 3: last few years, and two of them that date back
• 29:17
Speaker 3: till twenty nineteen. And tonight is Baseball for Us night,
• 29:20
Speaker 3: celebrating the diversity, the strength that we get from the
• 29:22
Speaker 3: diversity in our community, and especially the heritage of diversity
• 29:26
Speaker 3: in baseball. If you think about baseball, it is I
• 29:29
Speaker 3: guess soccer might be more diverse than baseball, but we're
• 29:33
Speaker 3: probably a close second. And you look at our team
• 29:35
Speaker 3: and you see people from Venezuela, from the Dominican Republic,
• 29:38
Speaker 3: and heck tonight the York Revolution their lead off hitters
• 29:41
Speaker 3: from Japan. So it is baseball for us. It means
• 29:45
Speaker 3: in baseball is for all of us, and that's what
• 29:48
Speaker 3: we're celebrating tonight with a pretty nice program. We've got
• 29:51
Speaker 3: the gates open at five o'clock. We'll have five hundred
• 29:55
Speaker 3: vouchers for a free hot dog and the water for
• 29:58
Speaker 3: the first five hundred kids to come through through Corduroy Brown,
• 30:01
Speaker 3: a rising star from Huntington, is coming over and he's
• 30:04
Speaker 3: provide some entertainment before the game. We'll also be unveiling
• 30:08
Speaker 3: a project that we started last year during African American
• 30:11
Speaker 3: Heritage Night and Jeff Pearson, the city director of Public Art,
• 30:15
Speaker 3: helped us put it together and it is a celebration
• 30:17
Speaker 3: of diverse and strong is what it's called, and it's
• 30:22
Speaker 3: what he did last year was to take different sheets
• 30:26
Speaker 3: of skin tones and people who came to the game,
• 30:30
Speaker 3: and some of our players later outlined their hands and
• 30:32
Speaker 3: he'd put them all together, reaching together toward a central
• 30:37
Speaker 3: vision that we're going to be unveiling in about six
• 30:40
Speaker 3: ten tonight, right after Corduroy Jones plays it quarter till
• 30:44
Speaker 3: ten till six. So it is a celebration and we
• 30:47
Speaker 3: have it's a celebration of our entire community. The other
• 30:50
Speaker 3: thing we're doing is doing another public art project because
• 30:53
Speaker 3: art has been intertwined with African American Heritage Night for
• 30:57
Speaker 3: the last several years, and we're going to do a
• 31:01
Speaker 3: Baseball for Us Art project led by Brianna Taft, who
• 31:04
Speaker 3: is the head of the Public Arts Division and Festival
• 31:09
Speaker 3: and at Festival, we were on at this children's art
• 31:12
Speaker 3: fair and taking little baseballs and having kids and well
• 31:16
Speaker 3: kids of all ages really color them in about what
• 31:18
Speaker 3: baseball for us means to them. And we're going to
• 31:20
Speaker 3: be putting that in a physical format later in a
• 31:23
Speaker 3: home plate. And then we're also going to be showcasing
• 31:27
Speaker 3: some of the artwork that we had from the entire community.
• 31:30
Speaker 3: So it's going to be a really good time. And
• 31:31
Speaker 3: we're also celebrating about nine actually ten if you think
• 31:35
Speaker 3: about it, a team of ten community all stars who
• 31:39
Speaker 3: understand the nature of the cause, who understand the strength
• 31:43
Speaker 3: that we get from diversity, and who are pretty big
• 31:46
Speaker 3: in that cause. So we will be honoring them throughout
• 31:48
Speaker 3: the course of the night. We're hoping that kids come
• 31:51
Speaker 3: and dresses their favorite baseball player because we have a
• 31:58
Speaker 3: Wonderwall event, so I think the name of the company
• 32:01
Speaker 3: that is that made baseball cards for people last year
• 32:04
Speaker 3: for free, come get a baseball card of yourself for free,
• 32:08
Speaker 3: and so we're hoping kids will come dress as their
• 32:10
Speaker 3: favorite representing their favorite team or their favorite player, and
• 32:13
Speaker 3: you get a free baseball card as well under the
• 32:16
Speaker 3: third base canopy. So there are a lot of good
• 32:18
Speaker 3: things going on team. That's all just one night. Yeah,
• 32:21
Speaker 3: that's just one night. Yeah, throughout the week. I know
• 32:23
Speaker 3: Redneck Night is back. I think that's yeah, that's tomorrow night.
• 32:27
Speaker 2: And I mean I got a whole list of all
• 32:29
Speaker 2: these things that they're going on, and we'll just tell
• 32:31
Speaker 2: you about those throughout the week. I think we will
• 32:33
Speaker 2: kind of just concentrate on this because there is something
• 32:35
Speaker 2: two or three things, two or three special something's going
• 32:37
Speaker 2: on every night at the ballpark.
• 32:38
Speaker 3: Well, the other thing to think about also is this
• 32:40
Speaker 3: Saturday night is usually in the schedule, is that most
• 32:44
Speaker 3: teams have either the fourth of July or the third
• 32:47
Speaker 3: and fourth. There's a division you're already home on the
• 32:49
Speaker 3: third or home on the fourth or fourth and fifth,
• 32:51
Speaker 3: depending on what the calendar says. This is one year.
• 32:54
Speaker 3: We're gone all next week on the road, and there's
• 32:58
Speaker 3: plenty of do in Charleston without baseball next week, clearly,
• 33:01
Speaker 3: but that means Saturday night is going to be sort
• 33:04
Speaker 3: of the kickoff of the week of two hundred and
• 33:06
Speaker 3: fiftieth anniversary celebration, and we're going to have our biggest
• 33:10
Speaker 3: firework show, and I think we're packing the ballpark with
• 33:12
Speaker 3: a lot of groups I think we've got pre sale
• 33:14
Speaker 3: of two thousand maybe already, So we're gonna, Oh that night,
• 33:18
Speaker 3: we're gonna have the two hundred and forty ninth Army Band.
• 33:20
Speaker 3: They showed up last year on July. I think it
• 33:23
Speaker 3: was third that we had our celebration. Last year, they
• 33:26
Speaker 3: showed up. They're out of Morgantown. Chief Jeremia Bennett leads them,
• 33:30
Speaker 3: and they do a great job. I mean, I had
• 33:33
Speaker 3: not heard of them before, but they said, yeah, we'll
• 33:35
Speaker 3: come down, and it was an amazing show. Pop music mostly,
• 33:39
Speaker 3: but some stuff that a band is doing. They'll also
• 33:43
Speaker 3: lead us in the national anthem and also that night
• 33:48
Speaker 3: playing all the service anthems as we recognize the people
• 33:50
Speaker 3: who serve. So Saturday Night's going to be a big
• 33:53
Speaker 3: night for us and a really great way to start
• 33:56
Speaker 3: the week of celebrations of our nation.
• 33:59
Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, there's a whole lot going on, you know,
• 34:02
Speaker 2: and there's a moth Man Night on Friday, moth Man
• 34:04
Speaker 2: Night on Friday, and as I said, I think some
• 34:07
Speaker 2: of our folks are going to be out there Saturday Night.
• 34:08
Speaker 2: Among the other things going on Saturday Night, I think
• 34:11
Speaker 2: w RC Media is going to be a part of
• 34:12
Speaker 2: the celebration on Saturday night. So all of our stations
• 34:15
Speaker 2: I think are going to be out there represented the
• 34:16
Speaker 2: ballpark too, some of us will be out there, So
• 34:18
Speaker 2: looking forward to seeing everybody there. I'm want to go
• 34:20
Speaker 2: back to tonight though, because there if there was any
• 34:23
Speaker 2: knock on baseball, I think rod for so many years,
• 34:26
Speaker 2: it was that there wasn't a lot of diversity in it.
• 34:32
Speaker 2: And I mean, I'm going back to talking about historically,
• 34:35
Speaker 2: you know, and uh and of course we all know
• 34:37
Speaker 2: with Jackie Robinson and then the rise of a lot
• 34:39
Speaker 2: of the Latin players and uh and and but but
• 34:43
Speaker 2: it's been said that and there's been a move on
• 34:46
Speaker 2: to try to encourage more African American kids, especially to
• 34:51
Speaker 2: go into the sport. Now there are plenty in it,
• 34:53
Speaker 2: but there could always be more. And that's what this
• 34:56
  Speaker 2: is all about.
• 34:56
  Speaker 5: It.
• 34:57
Speaker 2: I know, Major League Baseball specifically has gone into a
• 35:00
Speaker 2: lot of these communities and tried to, you know, get
• 35:04
Speaker 2: some minority groups to get more involved in baseball.
• 35:06
Speaker 3: The RBI program that the Major League Baseball did, Yes
• 35:09
Speaker 3: when I when I was young, when I was first
• 35:11
Speaker 3: discovering baseball growing up outside of Pittsburgh, the best athletes,
• 35:16
Speaker 3: and the best black athletes were choosing baseball. Bob Gibson,
• 35:19
Speaker 3: Dave Winfield, Dave Parker, Willie Stargel, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays.
• 35:24
Speaker 3: And that was because Jackie Robinson paved the way after
• 35:27
Speaker 3: the years of segregation. And so I think once a
• 35:32
Speaker 3: Major League Baseball realized and had that door open more
• 35:36
Speaker 3: than the other major sports did or in earlier, but
• 35:38
Speaker 3: it took a long time. And so you think about
• 35:41
Speaker 3: the glory years of the sixties and seventies, Uh, yeah,
• 35:46
Speaker 3: we had some amazing black athletes growing up that chose
• 35:49
Speaker 3: baseball that could have chose another Dave Winfield's a great example.
• 35:52
Speaker 3: I think he was a four sport player University of Minnesota.
• 35:56
Speaker 3: And then what I've seen is sort of an ebb
• 35:59
Speaker 3: of that. For a few years and increasingly the color
• 36:03
Speaker 3: of baseball, especially at the college level, was white and
• 36:06
Speaker 3: at the professional level white and Latino. But yes, Major
• 36:09
Speaker 3: League Baseball has been pushing through the RBI program to
• 36:12
Speaker 3: get more people, more African Americans back into it, and
• 36:16
Speaker 3: I think that is working because we have several great
• 36:19
Speaker 3: athletes on our team, for instance, and were led by PJ. Phillips,
• 36:24
Speaker 3: whose brother Brandon was one of the best players in
• 36:27
Speaker 3: the last two decades and best second basement in Major
• 36:30
Speaker 3: League baseball. So it is you see that push coming back,
• 36:34
Speaker 3: and I appreciate seeing more and more black athletes who
• 36:38
Speaker 3: choose baseball. I must confess I have a Russell Wilson story. Okay,
• 36:42
Speaker 3: that's sort of it's nothing to do with tonight. Russell
• 36:45
Speaker 3: Wilson is the two sport athletes back in North Carolina State.
• 36:51
Speaker 3: He got drafted out of junior year by the Colorado
• 36:55
Speaker 3: Rockies and he came and played for Ashville against US
• 36:58
Speaker 3: back when we were affiliated in the same league as
• 37:00
Speaker 3: as they were. And I remember seeing him and what
• 37:02
Speaker 3: was the sports bar upstairs after a game one night,
• 37:05
Speaker 3: and I said, I'm so glad you chose baseball well,
• 37:08
Speaker 3: and he was only hitting about two thirty at the time,
• 37:11
Speaker 3: and within the half within what a month, I think
• 37:13
Speaker 3: he decided I got one more year of eligibility to left.
• 37:16
Speaker 3: I think I'm going to see if I can get
• 37:18
Speaker 3: back into football, and the rest they say is a mastery.
• 37:21
Speaker 2: I think he's going to be an analyst for one
• 37:23
Speaker 2: of the networks this year. Well that's cool. Yeah, he's
• 37:25
Speaker 2: going to be in one of the one of the
• 37:27
Speaker 2: one of the shows. He's going to be an NF
• 37:28
  Speaker 2: and I'm sure he'll do a.
• 37:29
Speaker 1: Great job at it.
• 37:30
Speaker 2: He was a great athlete. Oh yeah, you know Russell Wilson.
• 37:32
Speaker 2: I know, he played for Dale Cooper's Seattle Seahawks, you know,
• 37:35
Speaker 2: for nover of years and bounced right, bounced around the
• 37:38
Speaker 2: league a little bit. But he was a fantastic athlete.
• 37:41
Speaker 2: I did not know that he was, that he had
• 37:43
Speaker 2: gone that far as far as being a two.
• 37:45
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 37:46
Speaker 3: I'm sure he doesn't remember the conversation, but I do,
• 37:48
Speaker 3: especially unless he might remember toast Man, because I.
• 37:52
Speaker 2: Could forget the toast Man.
• 37:53
Speaker 3: Well, I probably did toast him because he was only
• 37:55
Speaker 3: a two thirty hitter at that time. But but no,
• 37:57
Speaker 3: But but you're right, your point is baseball and baseball
• 38:01
Speaker 3: it has been diverse. I mean, you think about the
• 38:03
Speaker 3: all white baseball teams.
• 38:05
  Speaker 4: Now.
• 38:05
Speaker 3: The other thing I'm proud of thanks to AARP in
• 38:07
Speaker 3: West Virginia in twenty twenty, the one hundredth anniversary of
• 38:11
Speaker 3: the centennial of the negro Leagues, whenever black folk were
• 38:15
Speaker 3: kicked out of Major League Baseball and they started their
• 38:17
Speaker 3: own negro Leagues. Major League Baseball and Minor League Baseball
• 38:20
Speaker 3: were pushing everybody to have a celebration, and we planned to.
• 38:23
Speaker 3: We had the Josh Gibson Exhibit.
• 38:25
Speaker 2: Remember you came on the show and talked about.
• 38:26
Speaker 3: It and coming down here. And as it turned but
• 38:29
Speaker 3: everybody else canceled except for us. So we were the
• 38:32
Speaker 3: only baseball team on the continent that had an in
• 38:36
Speaker 3: person celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the Negro League
• 38:40
Speaker 3: realized that well, Major League Baseball had them because they
• 38:43
Speaker 3: resumed play, but it was all virtual because nobody was
• 38:46
Speaker 3: in the ballpark until the playoffs. But everybody else had
• 38:50
Speaker 3: canceled because their seasons got canceled. But AARP said, yeah,
• 38:53
Speaker 3: keep our money and do that, and so we became
• 38:57
  Speaker 3: the only one.
• 38:57
Speaker 2: To do the baseball It was a fantastic.
• 39:00
Speaker 3: Yeah, we brought it back in twenty twenty one whenever
• 39:02
Speaker 3: we were able to resume. So but that was diversity matters,
• 39:06
Speaker 3: and I still, you know, I'm one of those people
• 39:08
Speaker 3: that thinks it's actually a really really good word because
• 39:11
Speaker 3: it's through our strength that we through the diversity, that
• 39:14
Speaker 3: we get our strength. And I think the more people
• 39:17
Speaker 3: with different backgrounds, different understandings come together for any cause,
• 39:21
Speaker 3: and it's especially Torona baseball team. It's especially to right
• 39:24
Speaker 3: now in the World Cup. People have come from different
• 39:27
Speaker 3: places to come together and work on a team for
• 39:30
Speaker 3: shared goals. That's that's when we're at our strength.
• 39:32
Speaker 2: Now, this is the second day in a row I've
• 39:34
Speaker 2: talked about World Cup because I don't know if you
• 39:35
Speaker 2: heard the show yesterday and that Rusty Web texted me
• 39:37
Speaker 2: last week and he said, I'm going to Because I
• 39:40
Speaker 2: had said something on the air about not just not
• 39:42
Speaker 2: being a huge fan, Rusty text me and said, hey,
• 39:44
Speaker 2: I'm coming. I'm going to come on the show and
• 39:46
Speaker 2: I'm going to get you to care about the World Cup.
• 39:48
Speaker 2: And by god he did because because he started talking
• 39:51
Speaker 2: about the whole country roads thing and about and so yeah,
• 39:54
Speaker 2: I actually I actually care a little bit more than
• 39:57
Speaker 2: I did about the World Cup. How's that? And I knew, no,
• 40:00
  Speaker 2: it is.
• 40:00
  Speaker 3: It's amazing.
• 40:01
  Speaker 2: I still don't.
• 40:02
Speaker 3: I'm still whenever I go to a UC soccer game,
• 40:04
Speaker 3: that's the soccer team that I'll follow over the closest.
• 40:06
Speaker 3: I'll still be asking people, Okay, what what just happened?
• 40:09
Speaker 3: What does that mean? But yeah, it's clearly, it's clearly
• 40:12
Speaker 3: the sport of the world.
• 40:13
Speaker 2: Yeah, and we're just now catching up. It's what I told.
• 40:16
Speaker 2: I said, I was talking to Weekly on the show yesterday.
• 40:18
Speaker 2: I said, because the first thing he did when he
• 40:20
Speaker 2: came in the studio was changed channel, putting on the
• 40:22
Speaker 2: you know whatever channel World couple was on. And I
• 40:25
Speaker 2: was telling him, I said, you know, growing up as
• 40:26
Speaker 2: a kid in southern West Virginia in the seventies and eighties,
• 40:30
Speaker 2: you know, there there was no soccer. I mean, he
• 40:32
Speaker 2: just wasn't played, It wasn't taught or anything like that.
• 40:35
Speaker 2: Now it's changed since then, all right, But back back
• 40:38
Speaker 2: when I was a kid, it was you know, the
• 40:40
Speaker 2: three baseball, football, basketball, and that was it.
• 40:42
  Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's about it.
• 40:44
Speaker 2: And now it's not, well yeah, but not not a
• 40:47
Speaker 2: not a lot of hockey being played in southern West Virginia.
• 40:49
  Speaker 4: No, that's true.
• 40:49
Speaker 2: But but I can't tell you that it's it's now changed,
• 40:52
Speaker 2: and soccer is a huge sport now.
• 40:54
Speaker 3: Yeah, And I'm proud to work for an owner who
• 40:56
Speaker 3: appreciates that the business business of baseball is such that
• 41:00
Speaker 3: and the business of all sports is such that we
• 41:02
Speaker 3: need to build everybody We need to make sure everybody
• 41:04
Speaker 3: is welcome in our ballpark, and so that's one of
• 41:06
Speaker 3: the things that tonight helps us. Do you are welcome here.
• 41:11
Speaker 3: You might not look like me, you might not come
• 41:13
Speaker 3: from the same place as I do, but you are
• 41:15
  Speaker 3: welcome here.
• 41:15
Speaker 2: All right, And go over everything for tonight again because
• 41:18
Speaker 2: we threw out a lot of information. But what people
• 41:20
Speaker 2: show up to ballpark tonight against York will Yeah.
• 41:23
Speaker 3: We have five o'clock, the gates open five thirty. The
• 41:25
Speaker 3: entertainment starts with the autographs and pictures with some of
• 41:28
Speaker 3: our players, five hundred coupons for the first five hundred
• 41:33
Speaker 3: kids to come through for a free hot dog, Corduroy
• 41:35
Speaker 3: brown playing pregame, the unveiling of Different and Strong, the
• 41:39
Speaker 3: art project from last year, then the ballgame at six thirty,
• 41:43
Speaker 3: and a whole lot of fun to be had, free
• 41:45
Speaker 3: baseball cards if you come out, preferably representing your favorite
• 41:50
Speaker 3: team or your favorite player, and a whole lot of
• 41:53
Speaker 3: community all stars that we're going to be honoring throughout
• 41:55
Speaker 3: the night. So it's gonna be a great night. Only
• 41:56

Speaker 2: of uniting the people. These special rights are the most
• 45:30
Speaker 2: divisive things being done. Have you not noticed the pushback
• 45:34
Speaker 2: the Major League Baseball in the NFL are now getting
• 45:36
Speaker 2: over their divisive issues. Stop it with it all and
• 45:40
Speaker 2: just play the game. Stop pandering the groups. It creates

• 45:48
Speaker 2: News Midday thirteen News in Tonight Live anchor Mander Baron
• 45:50
Speaker 2: and Me powered by Slango Law, will of course continue
• 45:53
Speaker 2: to take our looks back at the flooding the state
• 45:57
Speaker 2: in twenty sixteen. And again we started this yesterday and
• 46:00
Speaker 2: if you listened in the morning news this morning, we
• 46:02
Speaker 2: had a lot of archive footage and video and audio,
• 46:06
Speaker 2: I should say of audio, there's a different stave audio
• 46:10
Speaker 2: of some of those from Earl Ray Tomlin on down
• 46:14
Speaker 2: and just brought back a lot of memories, I will say,
• 46:18
Speaker 2: listening to a lot of that today. So we're going
• 46:20
Speaker 2: to continue some of that on midday today. Now, ironically, today,
• 46:25
Speaker 2: of course, is the actual anniversary of those floods. But
• 46:30
Speaker 2: last night, late afternoon and into the evening hour, some
• 46:33
Speaker 2: areas of southern West Virginia, primarily Boone and Logan Counties,
• 46:37
Speaker 2: got hit really hard. We're going to talk about that
• 46:39
Speaker 2: on the show today as well. Now, I will tell
• 46:41
Speaker 2: you we have plenty of coverage of today's flood get
• 46:44
Speaker 2: well the twenty twenty six floods, I should say, on
• 46:47
Speaker 2: our website wv metronews dot com. I've got some stuff
• 46:49
Speaker 2: posted over on Dave Allen Radio as well, some footage,
• 46:54
Speaker 2: some video footage from my old station down there, WVW.
• 46:59
Speaker 2: Some of the flooding in Logan County. Boone County hit
• 47:02
Speaker 2: particularly hard as well. Chris Lawrence from our news team
• 47:07
Speaker 2: is actually going to be going down to Boone County,
• 47:10
Speaker 2: so he'll probably join us on the show today to
• 47:13
Speaker 2: talk about what he sees there. Waters are starting to
• 47:16
Speaker 2: receive but a lot of areas of Boone County, places
• 47:18
Speaker 2: like Wharton, if you're familiar with these names, Wharton, Spruce River, Jeffrey,
• 47:23
Speaker 2: into the Blair and Charple's area into Logan County, got
• 47:27
Speaker 2: hit really, really hard. The Mount Gay area of Logan County,
• 47:31
Speaker 2: what we call forty four of the Omar area, cal
• 47:35
Speaker 2: Creek places like that got hit really hard. Waters are
• 47:37
Speaker 2: starting to go down, but now the cleanup is going
• 47:39
Speaker 2: on to Chris Lawrence is headed down that way and
• 47:41
Speaker 2: we'll be talking to him on the show today as well.
• 47:44
Speaker 2: Little Happier notes the West Virginia Freedom Festival gets underway
• 47:49
Speaker 2: in Logan today. Amber Miller Belcher from the Freedom Festival
• 47:51
Speaker 2: is going to join us on Metter in his Midday today.
• 47:53
Speaker 2: They got some big acts. LeAnn Rimes is coming down
• 47:56
Speaker 2: there and check this out. Bo Duke John Schneider is
• 48:00
Speaker 2: going to be there as well, and they've got him
• 48:01
Speaker 2: to do the national anthem one night of the Freedom
• 48:05
Speaker 2: Festival down there. So we'll talk to Amber Miller Belcher
• 48:08
Speaker 2: about that. Mett tro News Midday with thirteen News and
• 48:10
Speaker 2: Tonight Live anchor Bander, Baron and Me coming up at
• 48:12
Speaker 2: noon today powered by Selango law Now on this show tomorrow,
• 48:15
Speaker 2: we're going to continue looking back at twenty sixteen. Clinton
• 48:18
Speaker 2: and Mayor Kse Summers will be on the show tomorrow.
• 48:21
Speaker 2: And also, since all the talk the last twenty four hours,
• 48:24
Speaker 2: what hasn't been flood related. Has been has been about concerts.
• 48:30
Speaker 2: Check this out. The Mormonute Tabernacle Choir is about to
• 48:34
Speaker 2: celebrate a big anniversary, the one hundredth anniversary of their
• 48:39
Speaker 2: first ever concert at the Hollywood Bowl. And it's going
• 48:43
Speaker 2: to be commemorated, of course, all across the country, but
• 48:46
Speaker 2: it's going to be commemorated here in Charleston by a
• 48:48
Speaker 2: special event at the theater at Capitol High School. And
• 48:52
Speaker 2: it is going to be this Saturday afternoon. So we're
• 48:55
Speaker 2: going to get into that story coming up on the
• 48:58
Speaker 2: show today as as well. Texter texted in to say
• 49:03
Speaker 2: special nights, not special rights. Actually, you may have actually
• 49:06
Speaker 2: texted it right, and maybe I read it wrong. This
• 49:08
Speaker 2: that's been known to happen, all right, So let's talk
• 49:11
Speaker 2: about concerts. Yesterday, the governor announcing that Alabama, the Marshall
• 49:19
Speaker 2: Tucker Band, and the West Virginia Symphony are all going
• 49:24
Speaker 2: to play as part of the America two fifty celebration
• 49:28
Speaker 2: here in Charleston. Now, of course this is the West
• 49:32
Speaker 2: Virginia version I guess of this. Alabama is set to
• 49:35
Speaker 2: play Friday nights as part of this. At the same
• 49:40
Speaker 2: time that Bobby Brown is going to be playing the regatta. Now,
• 49:46
Speaker 2: I think all this is great, and America only turns
• 49:48
Speaker 2: two hundred and fifty one time. I'm not a traffic
• 49:53
Speaker 2: engineer though, okay, and I'm just trying to figure out
• 50:00
Speaker 2: how this thing is going to work. I am not
• 50:02
Speaker 2: a skeptic or whatever, and I think it's all great.
• 50:07
Speaker 2: I'm one that is always about banging the drum of
• 50:10
Speaker 2: promoting things going on, whether it's Charleston or you know,
• 50:13
Speaker 2: our entire listening area. But I'm just kind of trying
• 50:19
Speaker 2: to figure out how this is going to happen in
• 50:22
Speaker 2: all of this in Charleston. Now, as I said, Marshall
• 50:24
Speaker 2: Tucker Band is also going to be playing the West
• 50:26
Speaker 2: Virginia Symphony. The Symphony I understand, is going to play
• 50:28
Speaker 2: that Saturday night, which is the fourth, and the Marshall
• 50:31
Speaker 2: Tucker Band Southern Rock Icons were playing on Sunday. The
• 50:35
Speaker 2: whole thing is being called the Capital City Celebration, and
• 50:38
Speaker 2: it's actually going to run July second through the fifth,
• 50:42
Speaker 2: including the world's tallest portable ferris wheel to be a
• 50:46
Speaker 2: part of it. Now, the governor and the Morris administration
• 50:50
Speaker 2: taking great pains to say he wants this activity to
• 50:52
Speaker 2: be held alongside the regatta. Had Matt Sutton from the
• 50:55
Speaker 2: from the City of Charleston Mayor Goodwin, Chief of sample
• 50:58
Speaker 2: the show last week and you know he he kind
• 51:01
Speaker 2: of addressed it and said, look, this is not competition.
• 51:04
Speaker 2: We're working together. Our goal is to bring people into
• 51:07
Speaker 2: Charleston for the two hundred and fiftieth Celebration of America.
• 51:11
Speaker 2: And I completely get that, and I applaud that. I'm
• 51:13
Speaker 2: just sending back. Maybe I'll reach out to mister Sutton
• 51:16
Speaker 2: or one of the folks with the City of Charleston
• 51:18
Speaker 2: just say how exactly are we going to pull this
• 51:21
Speaker 2: whole thing off with all this at one time. I'm
• 51:25
  Speaker 2: not a hater, I'm not a doubter. I'm just trying
• 51:27
Speaker 2: to figure it out exactly how this whole thing is
• 51:30
Speaker 2: going to be pulled off quick Texas. John Schneider is
• 51:33
Speaker 2: a great follow on Facebook, very interactive with his fans.
• 51:36
Speaker 2: He and his wife were just here at the Greenbrier
• 51:38
Speaker 2: well on a road trip. All right, we got to go.
• 51:40
Speaker 2: Thank you so much all our guests on the show today.
• 51:42
