- 0:00Hey, everybody, it's Mike. I am joined today by the Texas
- 0:04Snowman, Jeremy Johnson. How are you today, Jeremy?
- 0:06Good man, how you doing buddy? Awesome.
- 0:09It's great to have you on. And Full disclosure for anybody
- 0:11who isn't aware, you are a sponsor of my channel, my
- 0:14personal channel, Junk Wax Hero. Before I go, I know people will
- 0:18get upset if I don't mention this and your business partner
- 0:20Chris Sewell is a sponsor of another show on this channel,
- 0:24but this this video is not sponsored by I'm genuinely very
- 0:28interested in your business. This is normally this week in
- 0:31sports cards episode, but there wasn't really a whole lot that
- 0:35happened this week. So I was like, let's get Jeremy
- 0:36on. Let's talk about not only
- 0:39collector investor auctions, but you have a new podcast too.
- 0:43Tell me about the podcast. Which is great, by the way.
- 0:46Thank you. Yeah, it's Texas Snowman and
- 0:49Crystal, in that order, of course of.
- 0:51Course I heard that argument on episode 1.
- 0:54That's right. That's right.
- 0:56No, man, yeah, we, we've been talking about doing a podcast
- 0:59for a couple months and we just decided it's like, let's just,
- 1:04let's just do it, it's time. And we're like, OK, and what do
- 1:06we want to talk about? And Chris is like, maybe we
- 1:10we'll just wing it and we'll see.
- 1:11We'll figure it out pretty quick.
- 1:12I was like, OK, so we just started it and, you know, we
- 1:15certainly have more of a agenda to talk about each time.
- 1:19But the hilarious thing, to your point of what you just said, you
- 1:22know, there's all this like epic news, massive news for the ages,
- 1:27like just huge stuff. We start a podcast and it's like
- 1:31radio silence news wise. It's like, OK, so there's no
- 1:34news, but we're going to talk about this, man.
- 1:36You know? Yeah, but, but, but really,
- 1:38truly like we, we just, we just decided early on too, we don't
- 1:41really want to be a news source necessarily, you know what I
- 1:45mean? There's tons of great channels
- 1:47for that. But we certainly do want to
- 1:49touch on the hot topics of whatever's going on and just
- 1:53talk about it, you know what I mean?
- 1:54So yeah, but no, we love it, man.
- 1:56It's super fun. We do it once a week it go.
- 1:59We post on Tuesdays. It's super fun.
- 2:02Love it. Yeah, it is.
- 2:04It's a lot of fun. You guys have great rapport and
- 2:06I love the branding. You know, you've got Chris
- 2:08Sewell, Collector Investor dealer in that order.
- 2:10And then your auction house is called Collector Investor
- 2:14Auctions and then the podcast is Collector Investor Podcast.
- 2:18So what's next? Is there like Collector Investor
- 2:20TV show that? 'D be fun.
- 2:24Well, there is also Collector Investor Live, which is which is
- 2:28my Whatnot channel. So there's that.
- 2:31I was not aware of that, yeah. Yeah, there's that too.
- 2:35OK. And I'm sure more collector
- 2:37investor things will come. The, the one big thing on the
- 2:41horizon that's not going to be right now for sure is the CIA
- 2:45vault. That's going to be fun.
- 2:47That's going to be. Yeah, you talked about that on
- 2:50Episode 1, right? And you thought it would be like
- 2:52a year away maybe? Yeah, because you know, we
- 2:55talked about it, right? Like to to invest in a
- 2:57legitimate vault. It's not cheap at all.
- 3:01Right. Plus insurance.
- 3:03Plus insurance, right, So I, I don't want to, I don't want to
- 3:08do that in a place that I don't own.
- 3:10Like if I'm renting a, a building or a you know, I don't
- 3:14want to do that if I'm renting it and when I move, when I leave
- 3:16that place, OK, great, I got to leave this 6 figure vault behind
- 3:21or whatever, you know what I mean.
- 3:22So I think we would rather be really patient with that and buy
- 3:26a building and then put the ball vault in and then, you know,
- 3:30we're not going to have to throw away a ton of money when we move
- 3:32out or something right. So that's probably what we're
- 3:35going to wait and do, but we'll see.
- 3:38We'll. See have you have you been to a
- 3:40like a legitimate PSA vault or fanatics vault?
- 3:44I have been, I haven't been to those vaults, but I have been to
- 3:47legitimate card vaults, yes. Excuse me?
- 3:51I always imagine them as being very well organized where they
- 3:56can just quickly go in and grab cards as needed.
- 4:00But then I think are those companies really that organized?
- 4:04It feels like you can disrupt that pretty.
- 4:07Not not easily, but relatively easily.
- 4:11Absolutely, yeah. I I could see a lot of issues
- 4:15happening with that if it's not well, well, well organized for
- 4:19sure. Yeah, I'd have to be.
- 4:22Yeah. So collector Investor Auctions,
- 4:25as I've said many times, is it's, I have purchase from one
- 4:29other auction house one time wasn't a bad experience, but it
- 4:32wasn't a great experience. It was just kind of like I got
- 4:35my, I got my item a couple weeks later.
- 4:39They charged me immediately. But with collector Investor
- 4:41auctions, it's a fantastic experience every time.
- 4:45And you know, when I buy, you ship it the next day.
- 4:50I've got my tracking number the day after the auction closes
- 4:54when I can sign with you. I received my money in my
- 4:58account the day after the auction closes.
- 5:00How does that come about? Are you the only auction house
- 5:02that does that? I don't know if I'm the only
- 5:05one. I know I'm one of the very few
- 5:09if maybe the only that does that way.
- 5:12But Full disclosure, I, you know, when you have 200 and when
- 5:16you have well over 200 people that win an item in an auction,
- 5:21If, if, if 150 people pay right away, unfortunately, there might
- 5:27be people that don't get the shipment the next day after
- 5:30auction ends. It might be the Tuesday, it
- 5:32might be like that next day or something.
- 5:34But in general, to your point, our goal is if you pay and it's
- 5:39a payment type where we don't have to wait for it to clear,
- 5:42man, we want to, we want to get it out same day or within 24
- 5:46hours every single time if humanly possible.
- 5:49So we work very hard to do that. And in the vast majority of the
- 5:53time we do do that. And as far as paying consignors,
- 5:57you know, when, when we started CIA, Chris and I had countless
- 6:00hours of meetings. And one of the things we talked
- 6:03about was what do we like about auction houses?
- 6:06What do we not like about auction houses and let's do
- 6:08everything we like and other people like.
- 6:11We asked a bunch of people, Hey, what do you what do you like and
- 6:13not like? And then so let's take
- 6:15everything that's good and do it and eggs nay or fix everything
- 6:19that's bad and just make it awesome.
- 6:22How do we do that? So one of the major points that
- 6:25basically everybody told me that it consigned is the wait time to
- 6:29get paid is not fun. Yeah.
- 6:32So, so we decided that we would just pay our consignors and
- 6:37worst case scenario, if the buyer doesn't pay, then we're
- 6:40stuck with the bill, not them. They don't have to wait another
- 6:44month to get paid out. Because I would find that to be
- 6:48very inconvenient if that happened to me, especially if
- 6:52it's a big card and especially if it's a big card and I waited
- 6:55for a big auction that happens quarterly, man, that's a, that's
- 6:59a major blow. I got to wait a quarter of a
- 7:01year now to sell that card. You know what a, what a bummer
- 7:04that is. So, so we just decided, look,
- 7:06it, it's worth it if we just pay the consignor.
- 7:09And if the bidder doesn't pay, then, then we'll, we'll deal
- 7:14with the punches there. But, but we would, we would
- 7:17rather take that responsibility than the consignor.
- 7:19So that's what we do. And, and generally very rarely
- 7:22does a consignor not pay. But if they don't, then we could
- 7:26either A offer it to the second highest bidder or we could just
- 7:30own, we just own the card and we'll sell it six months later
- 7:34in CIA. We have a six month policy.
- 7:36You can't relist it in CIA for six months.
- 7:39Or we'll just send it to a third party and sell it that way to
- 7:42recoup the money. And hopefully it wasn't some
- 7:44kind of insanely high sale that we're stuck with or something,
- 7:49you know, but, but the, The only exception to that really is if
- 7:52it's a new bidder, he's never been before and he wins the
- 7:55bigger item, probably going to wait till that person pays
- 7:58before I pay the consignor. But on a big card, if it's, if
- 8:01it's a smaller card, I'll just pay him.
- 8:03And you know, that's fine. But you know, somebody wins a
- 8:06$20,000 card and a new bidder probably going to be in touch
- 8:10with that bidder if they don't pay within, you know, the X
- 8:13amount of time and and wait to pay them.
- 8:15But I would try my very best to not make them wait more than
- 8:19like 4 business days, five business days, yeah.
- 8:22Yeah, you mentioned $20,000 car the Rodman, was it APMG it?
- 8:26Was. 21,000 last month. 1998 Precious Metal Gym Rodman back
- 8:33at 8 1/2. Yeah, it's great card.
- 8:35Yeah. What's the biggest sale you've
- 8:37had in an auction? Biggest sales 89,000.
- 8:43What card was it? 52 tops.
- 8:46Mickey Mantle, PSA 4. Never heard of him.
- 8:50Yeah, good soccer player. Great.
- 8:52OK, So what I found interesting and I'm going to share my screen
- 8:57here and I'm apologizing to anybody listening to this on
- 9:01podcast. I will do my best to describe
- 9:02this as well as I can, but in the upcoming auction, which I am
- 9:12now showing you have So last time you had a Rodman PMG is lot
- 9:18#1 and this time you have a lot of junk wax.
- 9:22It's it's like somebody's amazing junk wax era collection
- 9:26of high end, high grade cards. Is that accurate?
- 9:30This is not ordered yet to the order it's going to be yeah,
- 9:34yeah. So, so we so yeah, so we, we
- 9:37figured we would just, we would just leave it as they've been
- 9:40listed for a while and I'm going to reorder it later this week.
- 9:44Yeah. So, so by by the end of the
- 9:46weekend, it'll be in the in the lot order that it'll largely be.
- 9:50And we're still listing like because of the weather and stuff
- 9:52we didn't have, nobody could come to office for two, almost
- 9:56three days. So we're still listing stuff for
- 10:00the auction. So we'll be listing up until
- 10:02probably day before auction goes live for bidding.
- 10:05So things will change and everything.
- 10:08So we just figured, ah, we'll just leave it for now, but we'll
- 10:10change it. So this will not be the premium
- 10:12lot space order that you see currently.
- 10:14Gotcha. Yeah, so I mean, this is my jam.
- 10:18You know, you've got some awesome stuff, some Desert
- 10:22Shield cards of of all time greats, a lot of the rarer junk
- 10:28wax era cards. And I saw I was just scrolling
- 10:30through going this is awesome. So it's that makes sense,
- 10:34though, that those aren't the the featured cards for for
- 10:37February. I'm not consigning any cards for
- 10:40February but I am for March and I will be talking about these on
- 10:45a on some upcoming videos. But I made a mistake with a
- 10:49purchase that I made in January. I accidentally bought 2 of them.
- 10:55Completely my fault. And so I could not cancel the
- 11:00the company that was selling one of them and refused to cancel
- 11:03for whatever reason even though they hadn't shipped it out.
- 11:05And so I'm going to consign it through CIA to sell it.
- 11:10And then I have some Otani's that I decided to sell and so
- 11:18I'm going to consign those as well for the March auction.
- 11:21I'm going to get those out in the next well, once I get the
- 11:24the other one in the mail, I'm going to send them all out to
- 11:26you guys. Sweet.
- 11:28Sweet, appreciate it. Yeah, one of the smartest things
- 11:32you guys did, and I think it's it's a little underrated.
- 11:36But for me, as a new consignor, somebody who had never consigned
- 11:39to an auction house before, really underrated move you made
- 11:43was hiring Theo Clemente, collector, even though he's
- 11:46texting me right now about how Bill Belichick doesn't deserve
- 11:49to be in the Hall of Fame. Which is he?
- 11:52Wow. We'll have to talk about that,
- 11:54OK. I think hiring him has been was
- 11:59an an amazing move for you for the auction house because he's
- 12:04he is so good at just easing the mind of consigners and buyers
- 12:10and saying I'll help you what how can I help?
- 12:13What can I do? And it makes it so much easier.
- 12:17Absolutely. So I have, I have not had a
- 12:21single thing said that I, I had to talk to Theo about in even in
- 12:27like constructive ways really. I mean, there was a couple of
- 12:31minor things, but it was just like, hey, here's a way we could
- 12:33do that even better, even though you did awesome, you know what
- 12:36I'm saying? Like he's been fantastic the
- 12:38entire time. And I'll, I'll be honest, like
- 12:40when when we hired him, we had high expectations, but he's
- 12:45definitely exceeded those expectations.
- 12:48I mean, just, he's just on it. He's just one of those guys.
- 12:51You don't have to make sure he did his job.
- 12:54It's like, wow, you did your job and then that too, that good
- 12:58job, you know, and all the people that he's talked to have
- 13:01just been like, dude, thank you so much for having Theo take
- 13:03care of my consignment. I, I couldn't be happier with
- 13:06how I was treated. I felt like royalty.
- 13:08It was just awesome. Thank you so much.
- 13:10I mean, everything I needed to know before I even asked it,
- 13:13Theo answered and he's been in touch with me throughout the
- 13:16entire process and I get emails when my stuff's listed.
- 13:19It's just great. And I don't have to guess where
- 13:21my stuff is. So yeah, I'm just really happy
- 13:23with Theo too. He's and he's a good dude.
- 13:25And I like Theo. He's cool.
- 13:26Yeah, he's all right. He's all right.
- 13:30So then you have he and Greg do an auction close live stream on
- 13:37the night of. I I got to be honest, if you
- 13:40don't already know this about me, I don't stay up late.
- 13:42I'm usually asleep by nine, 9:30-ish for the night, but I
- 13:45will stay up and watch that. It's it's really fun.
- 13:48It's interesting. And I think that just the whole,
- 13:53the whole thing is much more friendly than any other auction
- 13:59house that that I'm aware of. There's you have a face of the
- 14:02auction house, which I always talk about in terms of
- 14:05marketing. You have so SGC, when SGC was
- 14:10run by Peter Steinberg, he was in the face of the company and
- 14:13he was out there, He was posting videos, he's posting things on
- 14:17Instagram. And that was important
- 14:19collectors like that. And there isn't that at PSA or
- 14:25Beckett, although Beckett's trying to now.
- 14:28And I don't really see face of the auction houses much except
- 14:33with collector investor auctions.
- 14:34And to me, it's such a very small thing, like you could
- 14:38spend 10 minutes a week putting out a little video or podcast in
- 14:42your case that talks about what's on the what's what we
- 14:45have going on with the auction house.
- 14:48And it gives people a more familiar feeling, easier to
- 14:53consign with, easier to buy with when you know who's behind the
- 14:56auction house. Good point.
- 14:59Yeah, absolutely. You feel, you feel like, you
- 15:01know you're going to be in good hands.
- 15:03Even if somebody doesn't know, like the Texas Snowman or Theo
- 15:07or Chris or, you know, any of our other team, David Shrek,
- 15:12they, they start to watch you on the, on your social media or
- 15:16your marketing campaigns, whatever you're doing.
- 15:19They feel like they can, can get to know you or like, man, that
- 15:23guy seems really trust, trustworthy or likable or, you
- 15:27know, I, I, I certainly, I feel a lot more comfortable after I
- 15:30saw him say something about it, you know, something like that,
- 15:33right. So, yeah, I agree.
- 15:34If you can see, if you can see more who's involved with it and
- 15:38just get to know them as a person, I think that's super
- 15:40huge. Yeah, absolutely.
- 15:41That's important. Yeah, yeah.
- 15:44So what do you have? What's what does A big card
- 15:46coming up in the February auction.
- 15:50So if you if you wanted to, you could even just go to the search
- 15:53menu and type in LeBron. But I would say one of my
- 15:56favorite ones is a tops Chrome black refractor LeBron Beckett
- 16:039. And this isn't this isn't the
- 16:07one that Chris Sewell owned. No, because that wasn't Was that
- 16:11black? It it it is black, but his is
- 16:14APSA 9, so this is not the same card.
- 16:16Yeah, this is a Beckett 9. Oh yeah, now I see.
- 16:19So I'm just gonna on the right there, right?
- 16:26Are you see that screen? Yep, Yep, that's it.
- 16:30Yeah, so that is the for anybody listening on the podcast, 2003
- 16:34tops, Chrome black refractor number to 500 and a B GS9.
- 16:39He looks so sick in black. Man, I love that.
- 16:43Yeah, and I remember Chris doing a video about that card, his PSA
- 16:469, and he said that at one point it it got up $80,000 and he just
- 16:52he hung on to it. Yeah.
- 16:54You want to hear the back story on that?
- 16:56Love to. OK.
- 16:57So at that time he lived in the Netherlands at that time, right?
- 17:03So we're on the phone and, and when he was in the Netherlands,
- 17:09we didn't talk near as often, right?
- 17:11Like we talked, we used to, We, we would talk daily or multiple
- 17:16times a week, every week for a decade, you know, and for the
- 17:21vast majority of the time that was the case.
- 17:22And when, when he moved to the Netherlands, it, it, it became
- 17:25much, much less, of course, because he's international time
- 17:28differences, you know, stuff like that.
- 17:30But, you know, so we would, we would still definitely keep in
- 17:33touch, but we didn't talk very often.
- 17:34So we're on the phone and we're literally talking about how
- 17:37crazy the COVID hikes are. And it's right during that time,
- 17:42like, you know, 20/21/2020 ish, you know, right around that
- 17:46peak. And we're talking and I bring up
- 17:51a crazy LeBron sale that I saw and he's like, no way.
- 17:55And I was like, yeah. And he's like that, that I
- 17:57remember that he had bought that black refractor, I think for
- 18:01like $800. Yeah, yeah.
- 18:04And we were talking about it when he got that black refractor
- 18:07too. I was helping him find a couple
- 18:08of cards that he wanted anyway, So yeah.
- 18:11And, and at that time it was even a strong price at $800.
- 18:14Like I remember him almost not buying it for 800 bucks, right.
- 18:18So he did, which is great. But we're talking, and I, I
- 18:22forget the exact numbers, but something like 80 K, it went up
- 18:26to or something crazy. And you know, now it's probably,
- 18:30I would guess mid 30s. I guess the PSA 9 is probably
- 18:33mid 30s, maybe high 30s, maybe low 40s.
- 18:36But you know, it's, it's not certainly not 80, but it's also
- 18:40not 800, right? But anyways, I was like, dude,
- 18:43you got to sell that card. And he's like, oh, yeah, that
- 18:48maybe, I don't know, but he probably would have had he been
- 18:51in the States. But because he was in the
- 18:53Netherlands and his card was here, I think that's the main
- 18:57reason why he didn't sell the card really, because that price
- 19:01was insanity. I mean 80,000 ish or whatever it
- 19:05went up to it was, it was crazy high.
- 19:06So I think it's because he was in the Netherlands is why he
- 19:09didn't sell it. And by the time he got back, it
- 19:11had come down some. And he's like, I'll just, I'll
- 19:13just hold it. And he still has the card and
- 19:16he's happy to have the card, but.
- 19:17Yeah, of course. Do you think that we are in
- 19:20another COVID like bubble, Not not exactly the same because
- 19:25everything went up, but do you think that the iconic card
- 19:28bubble that we're in right now, well is it a bubble I guess is
- 19:31the better? Question, man, that is the
- 19:34question of the hour, decade, year.
- 19:38Yeah, really good question. I don't think anybody really
- 19:41knows right, what it's going to be.
- 19:45I do believe this, though. I believe that the COVID
- 19:48absolutely had to be a bubble. Stuff went up way too fast, way
- 19:52too high, ridiculously high. I mean, a card that I had sold
- 19:5512 months, 12 months prior for $1000 was now $50,000, you know,
- 20:02and it was just insanity. Some of these things, you know,
- 20:06Jordan rookies going from. 2325 thousand and APSA 10 to 750,000
- 20:14and APSA 10 and then six and then five and then four and now
- 20:17they're probably around 202225K250 somewhere in that
- 20:24ballpark, right. So it was just pure insanity.
- 20:26So I think that it is, you could loosely can call it a bubble,
- 20:32but I don't, I don't think it's going to be anything like what
- 20:35the COVID bubble was because that was just, it had to have a
- 20:39market correction. You know, it had to, it was just
- 20:41way too much of A hike, way too fast and the market couldn't
- 20:45sustain it. I think there's way more people
- 20:48than there were involved at that time now, and it can sustain it
- 20:53more. And I think the prices are
- 20:56adjusting to what the market is willing to do over a longer
- 21:00period of time, not just in a very short period of time that
- 21:03it has to correct itself. So I don't think we're in a
- 21:06bubble anything near as like severely crazy, crazy, wild as
- 21:12the the COVID bubble was. Will it come down some?
- 21:17I think, I think certain things may come down some, yes.
- 21:20I think other things will hold or even maybe go up some.
- 21:24And largely that's more of your less volatile investments like
- 21:30vintage and junk era that's solid junk era stuff and you
- 21:34know 2000 stuff like that versus your ultra modern stuff is
- 21:38extremely volatile and they keep making more and more.
- 21:41So I could see that coming down more than anything else I would
- 21:46say. Yeah, I watched Chris Sewell's
- 21:49video this morning where he talked about Mike Trout.
- 21:51I don't know if you've had a chance to.
- 21:52Oh man. No, I haven't watched it, but I
- 21:54know. Where you're going, it's so
- 21:56good. The Mike Trout collection from 4
- 21:59plus years ago, he, he did a video on and he went back and
- 22:03looked at it, it had plummeted the value of that collection and
- 22:06plummeted like 90% or more. And then he at the end, and I've
- 22:10been sitting here for weeks thinking I should sell off a
- 22:13couple of my Otani rookies because the, the value of them
- 22:17has skyrocketed by 5X in a year. And at the end of it, he said,
- 22:23you know, this is kind of like Shohei Ohtani.
- 22:25And he said, I'm not saying Shohei Ohtani cards are going to
- 22:28go down in value, but we're saying the same things about
- 22:31Shohei that we were saying about Trout five years ago.
- 22:35And that solidified it for me. That made me see, OK, I'm going
- 22:39to I'm going to sell off three of my 4 show.
- 22:42Hey, rookies, because I'm, I'm a 1 rookie guy.
- 22:44I only need one of your rookie cards.
- 22:46Oh. Interesting, I didn't know.
- 22:47That happy and I usually want them autographed but I'll never
- 22:50have a show. Hey, rookie autograph.
- 22:51Because they're insane. Well, we'll, we'll talk to Chris
- 22:55about getting that for your birthday.
- 22:58Perfect. Thank you.
- 23:00But yeah, I think selling off three of the four I'll be, I'll
- 23:05be happy to get that money back and then be able to spend it on
- 23:09other things that continue to improve my collection.
- 23:14Awesome. So so I didn't know that about
- 23:17you, by the way, that you're a 1 rookie card kind of guy.
- 23:19I I think that's cool. I think that's cool, but I
- 23:21didn't know that that's interesting.
- 23:23So one thought on that that I find to be very interesting.
- 23:28It's very interesting to me. Mike Trout was arguably the best
- 23:31player for 10 years in baseball. Right.
- 23:33Yeah, he was #1 or #2 in MVP voting every year.
- 23:37He was the best player in baseball basically every year
- 23:40for a decade. Look at his prices.
- 23:42To your point, what they've done, right?
- 23:44So Ohtani now the backing up, it's because it's like, Oh my
- 23:49gosh, how good is he going to be in the history books?
- 23:52OK, so Fast forward, best player for a decade, arguably in
- 23:56baseball. That's awesome, right?
- 23:59He should be a very high, high price comparatively to other
- 24:03players, but OK, now he's got these back injuries.
- 24:06He gets hurt every year. Every year is that his overall
- 24:09annual stats are hurt because he missed X amount of games and
- 24:14it's apparent that his body is going to probably continue being
- 24:17hurt every year. And that's exactly what
- 24:19happened. He gets a back injury.
- 24:21He has some other kind of injury.
- 24:22He can't play. Now his cards start to go down
- 24:25because people look at the long term war and the long term stats
- 24:29he's going to have are going to be hurt to where he's not going
- 24:33to get to a certain level they thought he could get AT.
- 24:35And we're talking like generational type levels.
- 24:38That's going to put him at an insanely high price point
- 24:40forever type of a thing. So his prize, his prices don't
- 24:44go down, they plummet to your point.
- 24:46So let's look at Otani. The difference in Trout and
- 24:49Otani is Otani's truly doing something that nobody's really
- 24:52ever done since Babe Ruth, and that's pitching and hitting and
- 24:55being good at both, great at both, you know, you know, so, so
- 25:00that's epically amazing what Otani's doing.
- 25:03But what if Otani starts having injuries every year?
- 25:07What if he gets caught gambling and it's really him?
- 25:12Let's just say, what if something happens, right?
- 25:16We don't know what's going to happen.
- 25:17That's an awful high bar to hope is going to go up in the next 10
- 25:22years from now. And it's going to be the same or
- 25:23higher, it may be and it may be 4X or 10X what it is today in 10
- 25:27years. But it could be a Trout
- 25:29situation too. So for me personally, if I am
- 25:33going to invest in Otani's, I'm going to invest.
- 25:37I'm going to hedge my bets in other cards and other players
- 25:39too. I'm not going to just put all my
- 25:41eggs in Otani for sure. You know what I mean?
- 25:43So it's a risky, it's a risky thing.
- 25:45But that makes you really wonder, look at the Trout
- 25:48example. Will that happen with Otani?
- 25:51And everybody said no, dude, Trout, man, you got to invest in
- 25:54Trout. It's going to go up to your
- 25:55point. Every everybody I knew was
- 25:57saying that anyway. Yeah, the difference I think in
- 26:00addition obviously to the pitching is that Ohtani did
- 26:04something that Trout refused to do, which was leave the pathetic
- 26:08Angels organization. Sorry to any Angels fans out
- 26:11there, but they are bad and Mike Trout has been loyal to them for
- 26:14no reason, for no good reason. Anyway, hopefully he's being
- 26:17loyal to the fans and not the organization cause the
- 26:20organization would cut him in a minute if they could or needed
- 26:24to. But Otani left for the Dodgers.
- 26:29He has been the best player on World Series winning team two
- 26:33years in a row. Is it 2 right?
- 26:36Yeah. He's won all these MVPS.
- 26:39He's come close to Cy Young's and I think he'll be back as a
- 26:42full time pitcher again soon, hopefully.
- 26:46So that's the difference. And plus the Otani market is
- 26:50much bigger. It's global.
- 26:51The Trout market probably isn't nearly as global as Otani's ever
- 26:55was. Just think if he won the Cy
- 26:59Young and a batting title. Or Cy Young and MVP at the same
- 27:03time. Oh my gosh, like my mind would
- 27:06explode like be mind blown if that happened.
- 27:09I mean how insane is that? He's already got, I think it's
- 27:12safe to say the greatest game in baseball history.
- 27:15Yes, that game was amazing. I mean my gosh.
- 27:18So who knows what he's going to do.
- 27:20I will say this, if there's a player that would be a pretty
- 27:24good bet to bet on, it's hard to argue with our Ohtani, right?
- 27:29It's hard to argue with that. But but it is very scary of what
- 27:32could happen 10 years from now, five years from now, 15 years
- 27:35from now, two years from now, you know, who knows?
- 27:38But he he is truly a special player, man.
- 27:40It's it's fun to watch him play. It really is.
- 27:45I'm a huge Shohei fan. Yeah.
- 27:48It's It's a fun time to be a baseball fan, even if you hate
- 27:51the Dodgers, which everybody does, I think, right.
- 27:55They have such a fun group of players.
- 27:57I like Freddie Freeman, I like Mookie Betts, I love Shohei, but
- 28:02all these guys are just fun to cheer for.
- 28:04They're they're seem like good ambassadors of the game since,
- 28:10you know, it's just the evil empire type of situation.
- 28:14Right. Yeah, dude, I, I love Freddie
- 28:16Freeman, man. I it's just a fantastic person
- 28:20and a great baseball player. Yeah, I like Freddie.
- 28:23I like Freddie. And the World Series heroics
- 28:26from Freeman is a blast. Yeah, I I actually watched a
- 28:29short like interview with them about when because he usually
- 28:32doesn't show like, you know, he wasn't showboating, but he
- 28:34usually doesn't really do anything when he hits home run.
- 28:36He just runs the bases, you know, very humbly.
- 28:39And he's like when he hit it, he just kind of blacked out and
- 28:41he's like, you know, throws his bat down and just super stoked
- 28:46and on the way. He's he's his family and the
- 28:49proud and everything. And it was just a very special
- 28:51moment. And you know it, it was fun to
- 28:53watch that the behind the scenes as a person, you know what that
- 28:57meant to him and his family and his dad's like, wow, my son just
- 29:00hit a hit, a hit a hit a hit a Homer in the World Series.
- 29:03So it was walk off Grand Slam, wasn't it?
- 29:05Walk. Off.
- 29:05I think so, yeah. In the World Series, my gosh,
- 29:08that was my son that did that. And they were all, you know,
- 29:10emotional and stuff. It was, it was.
- 29:11I love stuff like that. I love to see the person behind
- 29:15the player, if you will. Yeah.
- 29:17For sure one last thing I wanted to mention I'm going to share my
- 29:22screen again. I'm going to last month you had
- 29:31a card that I think if somebody's smart, oh where is it
- 29:37there it is so I've I bid on the 1935 Marathi Jesse Owens.
- 29:43I did not come close but that I. Didn't know you did that.
- 29:48Interesting. I did, yeah.
- 29:50I think my Max bid was like 1500, which I knew wasn't going
- 29:53to get it done. But that card in that condition
- 30:00is unbelievable. And I'm I'm not AII don't think
- 30:05a lot about that. I want to buy the card, put in
- 30:07my collection forever and I I don't think a lot about the
- 30:11value. But when I was looking at that
- 30:13and that in a Beckett 6.5 BVG 6.5, you know, they, the seller
- 30:20got a good price for it. But in APSA 6, I think it's
- 30:24worth like 7 or 8000 if I remember correctly.
- 30:28And so I'm not suggesting that they crack it and cross it or do
- 30:32anything like that. But that card, let me let me
- 30:36make it bigger here. It looks gorgeous.
- 30:38Yeah, it is. It's a nice looking card.
- 30:41Shockingly, it's almost perfect. This.
- 30:46This is the card you've heard of iappeal.com.
- 30:51Yeah, this is the card. This is like the perfect card to
- 30:53post on iappeal.com because it's a 6.5 but looks like it should
- 30:57be a Nine or A10. Yeah, it's nice, man.
- 31:01It's nice. It's very nice.
- 31:02I I think it had it's one of those cards.
- 31:05It is absolutely gorgeous and would it would it cross to A7
- 31:11honestly, I I6 or something like that, I could absolutely see it
- 31:16be having a chance of doing so. Yeah, I could.
- 31:19I could see it having a chance of doing so.
- 31:22Yeah. And I didn't see anything.
- 31:25Looks like there's a little bit of a Whiting on the back, but it
- 31:27doesn't look like paper loss. So I don't know.
- 31:30I. Can't remember honestly if
- 31:31that's just a glare on the picture, which we're we don't
- 31:35like, or if that's part of the card.
- 31:37But I I think it had one tiny like touch on a corner.
- 31:41But would that keep it out of a six category?
- 31:44Honestly, maybe not and maybe not even 7 because it was really
- 31:47minor. So but yeah, the IT is a
- 31:49gorgeous card. It's one of those cards that
- 31:50they they seem to be very aggressive against, you know,
- 31:55very aggressive, just like the photo pack cards.
- 31:57They're very thin and it looks like a 7 and they'll give it a 2
- 32:01or a three, not exaggerating. I've sold some and I'm looking
- 32:04at it. I'm like, gosh, a three.
- 32:05This thing's like a 7, maybe an 8.
- 32:08I can't blame this for whatever reason, they're just so hard on
- 32:11on those cards and it it seems like they're harder on the
- 32:14Marathis for some reason. But maybe it's just I've had a
- 32:17string of really nice ones for the eye appeal.
- 32:19I don't know. But well, thanks for bidding on
- 32:23it and good luck on the on the next one.
- 32:26I have APSA 7 but I don't know if I want to sell the PSA 7 but
- 32:32if I do it'll go in CIA. Nice.
- 32:35Yeah, I'm a I'm like APSA 1.5. That's my budget.
- 32:38That's what I'm looking for from that card.
- 32:40Yeah, it's it's a dream card. It, it's, it's, it's an awesome
- 32:47card that honestly, I, I, I think that's a very special
- 32:53card. It was the year before the
- 32:54Olympics, right? And to to the eyes of the
- 33:00beholder is the beauty in the card, right?
- 33:03Most people that would look at that card, especially modern
- 33:05guys, be like that might be the single ugliest card I've ever
- 33:08seen in my life. Right.
- 33:10But but I think it's absolutely gorgeous.
- 33:14I love it. It's awesome.
- 33:15Why? Because of what it is and the
- 33:17nostalgia and who's on the card. It's just a great card.
- 33:21I love that card. Yeah.
- 33:23Well, Jeremy, before we wrap up, anything you'd like to say about
- 33:27the auction house, the podcast, anything like that?
- 33:32I just want to say how thankful I am for all the viewers and
- 33:36bidders and consigners and, and partners that we have and thank
- 33:41you as well. And I'm just, I'm just
- 33:43incredibly grateful, man. I, I get, I get several
- 33:47wonderful emails just saying how much they, they love what we're
- 33:50doing and keep it up and encouraging us.
- 33:52And I, that just means a tremendous amount to me.
- 33:55So I, I appreciate the support so very much.
- 33:59And, and, and, and I think a, a big reason why we started the
- 34:02podcast is because we wanted people to get to know us better,
- 34:06more personably, and we wanted to get to know more people
- 34:09better too. And one of the main things that
- 34:12we said when we were going to do the podcast is we want to reply
- 34:15to comments, whether they e-mail us or they comment in there.
- 34:18We want that to be a section of basically every episode where
- 34:22we're gonna answer viewer questions.
- 34:25If not every single episode, most every single episode we we
- 34:28want to interact with people. So that was a big reason why we
- 34:31did it. And I'm glad we did.
- 34:32And it's been a lot of fun. Important to note who was the
- 34:35first subscriber and commenter on the podcast.
- 34:39You know that's open for a debate, man.
- 34:42I don't think so, honestly. Honestly, was it you?
- 34:45Were you the? Were you the first one?
- 34:47Yeah, I'm I'm pretty sure there were 0 subscribers and there
- 34:52were no comments. And you put subscribe when there
- 34:55was 0. And I am entering it into the
- 34:58record that I was the 1st. OK, we, we, we could, we could
- 35:02make that official that you are the first subscriber.
- 35:05I can tell you this. I know when I went on there,
- 35:07there was 8 subscribers and you were one of them and you had
- 35:11commented. So the, the, the evidence seems
- 35:14likely that you are the first subscriber to the podcast.
- 35:18Congratulations. And what a what an awesome first
- 35:21one to be the subscriber, man. Heck yeah.
- 35:23Yeah. So I hope to see you at the
- 35:26National again. Will you be at Strongsville or
- 35:28Independenceville, whatever calling it?
- 35:32I hope so. OK.
- 35:34I'll be there for. I'll be there for like a day and
- 35:37a half, OK? I really I'm really trying to
- 35:40go. I'm really trying to go.
- 35:41Yeah, hope to see with the National, but not in as cramped
- 35:44a space as your table was last year.
- 35:47We we, we could have a show just talking about crazy stories from
- 35:51people talking to me about trying to get to my.
- 35:53Booth it's It was terrible. Yes, yes, shockingly bad.
- 35:59How they set that up? Yes, yes.
- 36:02So that's when we went to go get our tables for next year, you
- 36:05know, because they do that during the show at the in the
- 36:07mornings. They were like twice they said
- 36:09it. We're aware of the space issue.
- 36:11It will be fixed next year. Our apologies, don't worry,
- 36:14because they knew that 50 dealers were going to chew into
- 36:17them pretty good. And I was like, oh, I don't want
- 36:19to say anything, It's my first national setting up.
- 36:21I'm just going to let other people say stuff.
- 36:23But yeah, it was a really big problem, you know, but one quick
- 36:27good thing on that. If I May 11 gentleman said that
- 36:32he had went up there to see me and he saw the crowd and he kind
- 36:36of like his jaw dropped and he's like, I don't know if I can do
- 36:40this. And he turned around and he got
- 36:42to the door to leave the leave the upstairs section.
- 36:44He's like, no, I will see the snowman.
- 36:48I'm going see the Texas snowman and say what's up and give him
- 36:51cards and a high 5. So he he said he literally
- 36:55elbowed his way. He was throwing bows, man, going
- 36:58through the crowd and made it to my table.
- 37:02And he he was almost like, I remember it because he was kind
- 37:05of breathing slightly heavily because he was sitting there
- 37:07trying to, you know, duck and weave, getting through people.
- 37:09And like, so if somebody turns to the side to look at a table,
- 37:12they hit you in the face or arm with their backpack and like,
- 37:15it's like, I'm assaulted, you know?
- 37:17So anyways, he made it and he's like, dude, you have no idea
- 37:19what it took for me to get to your table.
- 37:21And I was like, thank you for persevering, man.
- 37:24I know. Yeah, it was.
- 37:27Oh man. It was wild, wild.
- 37:28I asked you where? Another deal was, and you point,
- 37:31so I had come from the left and I said where's this other
- 37:34dealer? And you said they're down here
- 37:35to the right. And I looked and I started
- 37:38walking and I was like, Nope, turned back around, could not do
- 37:42it. There was just so many people,
- 37:44no room whatsoever. And like you said, I had a
- 37:47backpack on and any slight swings, I was going to hit
- 37:50somebody with it. There were people with suitcases
- 37:52in the aisles and. Terrible.
- 37:55Yeah, it was insane. The the good.
- 37:57The good part of that is it was it was by far the best turn out
- 38:01ever for an yeah, I think that's a no brainer.
- 38:03Just by far the best. So that's awesome.
- 38:06That's awesome. But yeah, it was it was insanity
- 38:09trying to get anywhere, let alone upstairs.
- 38:11Upstairs was the worst, I'd say. Yeah.
- 38:14All right. Jeremy, thank you for coming on.
- 38:16I appreciate it. This was a lot of fun.
- 38:18Yeah, thanks for having me on, man.
- 38:21All right, we'll see you all. See you soon.
- 38:23Thanks for watching everybody. Appreciate it.
