- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode seventy eight of Cards
- 0:19Speaker 1: and Categories. I'm Mike Coolard, joined as always by my
- 0:23Speaker 1: very good friend Jeremie Brewer from Rasball. How are you
- 0:26Speaker 1: doing tonight, Buddy?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Doing great. I am all thrown off because we're not
- 0:30Speaker 2: recording on a normal day. We are off cycle, which
- 0:33Speaker 2: is exciting because we actually have to sneak in a
- 0:35Speaker 2: good one here today. But I am excited, ready to go.
- 0:38Speaker 2: But I just like I said, I'm just all thrown
- 0:39Speaker 2: off my game. So who knows what's going in store tonight?
- 0:42Speaker 1: I know special circumstances called for a special podcast. You
- 0:46Speaker 1: said it. We are recording this one on February eighth, Saturday,
- 0:49Speaker 1: because we have Tops Series one from twenty twenty five
- 0:52Speaker 1: coming out on Wednesday, the twelfth, so we didn't want
- 0:56Speaker 1: to miss out on providing everybody a preview in advanceage
- 0:59Speaker 1: of that dry and release. It is. The pre order
- 1:03Speaker 1: happened a little while ago, so if you wanted it
- 1:05Speaker 1: straight from tops dot com on Wednesday, you would have
- 1:08Speaker 1: had to get in on that. But there is another
- 1:10Speaker 1: drop of product on tops dot com that should happen
- 1:14Speaker 1: around noon Eastern on Wednesday, and then otherwise the product
- 1:17Speaker 1: will be available everywhere throughout you know, wherever you can
- 1:21Speaker 1: buy baseball cards, hobby shops, targets, walmarts, probably gas stations.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Because it is Series one flagship, it's gonna be anywhere
- 1:29Speaker 1: and everywhere. So we'll give you.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Ballar Tree, yes, stick, Walgreens.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Repacks, eventually the Costco packs. Like, We're gonna get into
- 1:40Speaker 1: as many of the hallmarks of what's going into Series
- 1:44Speaker 1: one as we can, but there's per certainly going to
- 1:46Speaker 1: be more because honestly, as I've been updating the rundown,
- 1:49Speaker 1: even since we last recorded on Wednesday, there's been lots
- 1:53Speaker 1: and lots of like new parallels that have been released
- 1:55Speaker 1: on Instagram and all over the place. So it's kind
- 1:59Speaker 1: of the product that he keeps on given. But before
- 2:02Speaker 1: we get into that, we actually do have a major
- 2:04Speaker 1: piece of news. We broke it during the recording on
- 2:07Speaker 1: Wednesday during that NL East preview with Joey Rico Pete
- 2:12Speaker 1: Alonso going back to the New York Mets for certainly
- 2:15Speaker 1: much less than I think he had anticipated when he
- 2:18Speaker 1: entered this offseason. It is a two year, fifty four
- 2:22Speaker 1: million dollar deal with an opt out after the first
- 2:24Speaker 1: season structured a lot like you know those Cody Belender
- 2:28Speaker 1: contracts and Blake Snell contracts that they had to settle
- 2:31Speaker 1: for last year. Matt Chapman too, as Scott Boris struck
- 2:35Speaker 1: strikes out here with pet Alonso. I mean, Boris has
- 2:38Speaker 1: had a pretty good offseason considering the Sodo deal, But
- 2:42Speaker 1: pet Alonso will be entering his age thirty season and
- 2:45Speaker 1: has certainly been slipping skills wise a little bit at
- 2:48Speaker 1: the plate for the past few years. So this is
- 2:51Speaker 1: kind of the classic corner only guy that I think
- 2:54Speaker 1: modern baseball just doesn't value the same way they used to.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Even though Pete Alonso has remained a very solid slugger
- 3:02Speaker 1: for the Mets over his first handful of years. Uh,
- 3:07Speaker 1: this is a disappointing contract for him. But Brew, what
- 3:10Speaker 1: do you think that this means for Alonzo returning to
- 3:15Speaker 1: the Mets and the fans and Queens.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, honestly, I think this is the best
- 3:21Speaker 2: case scenario. And that's why it happened, is that, you know,
- 3:24Speaker 2: I do have concerns with Alonso and his ability to
- 3:28Speaker 2: maintain when he's done, and his most comfortable spot to
- 3:31Speaker 2: be is in Queens with him that's that's where he's
- 3:34Speaker 2: most comfortable and where he's gonna get the probably the
- 3:36Speaker 2: best production, best support that he could possibly have. So
- 3:39Speaker 2: I think it's good for him. Yeah, I'm I'm actually
- 3:42Speaker 2: not terribly surprised the contract he got, just because I
- 3:44Speaker 2: think there's you know, there's a lot more aura to
- 3:48Speaker 2: Pete Alonso than there is you know, output at this
- 3:50Speaker 2: point in time, and a lot of teams after the
- 3:52Speaker 2: league looks around, go hey, a guy that you know,
- 3:55Speaker 2: over the last two years averaged like two twenty and
- 3:58Speaker 2: hit forty bombs, Like, Okay, where's Joey Gallo? Right? I mean,
- 4:02Speaker 2: it's that kind of profile. So I think it's the
- 4:06Speaker 2: best thing for him to be back there. It's it's
- 4:08Speaker 2: it's a reasonable contract for a guy that kind of
- 4:11Speaker 2: seems to have faded in his out. It's really more
- 4:15Speaker 2: of the game that he plays has just become devalued.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Over the last three or four years. There seems like
- 4:21Speaker 2: there's more and more players that are fitting in that
- 4:22Speaker 2: mold and players that are able to you know, get
- 4:26Speaker 2: on base, steal the base, make something happen, and keep
- 4:31Speaker 2: this you know, strikeouts down. All those kind of things
- 4:33Speaker 2: are just hard and hard to find. It's not like
- 4:35Speaker 2: he's been bad. He's like he's been twenty percent better
- 4:37Speaker 2: than the may major league average, which is absolutely good.
- 4:41Speaker 2: But he is first base and that's it. That's all
- 4:43Speaker 2: he's gonna do. He's not necessarily, you know, a gold
- 4:48Speaker 2: Glover first base. It's just average. And so hey, if
- 4:52Speaker 2: I'm getting thirty five homers in a two forty average
- 4:56Speaker 2: like we got last year, it's good, but it doesn't
- 5:00Speaker 2: break the bank. So I'm not shocked. But I think
- 5:02Speaker 2: this is the best outcome from him. If I'm projecting
- 5:05Speaker 2: out just to literally take what will happened last year,
- 5:08Speaker 2: I'm gonna take three percent off just for kicks, and yeah,
- 5:12Speaker 2: that's what I expect from Pete.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, this is also a guy who you
- 5:17Speaker 1: can marcel the heck out of when you're doing the projections,
- 5:20Speaker 1: because he's been very solid throughout his entire career since
- 5:24Speaker 1: twenty nineteen. You can pencil him in for like one
- 5:27Speaker 1: hundred and fifty five games, thirty five homers to fortyish
- 5:31Speaker 1: average and go from there with runs in RBI that
- 5:35Speaker 1: this is gonna be a really dynamic Mets offense. I think.
- 5:39Speaker 1: So it could even be a year where you know,
- 5:41Speaker 1: he starts sniffing the one hundred and thirty one RBI
- 5:44Speaker 1: he puts in put up in twenty twenty two, or
- 5:46Speaker 1: even the one hundred and twenty from his rookie year
- 5:48Speaker 1: back in twenty nineteen, just because he's gonna have Soto
- 5:51Speaker 1: and lindor On in front of him that you got
- 5:54Speaker 1: to think that boosts his value a little bit. So
- 5:57Speaker 1: he currently is going in eighty piece since the beginning
- 6:00Speaker 1: of the year on NFBC. Let me flip it to
- 6:03Speaker 1: Draft Champions instead of the all data around pick sixty
- 6:09Speaker 1: on average, So that is putting him squarely in the
- 6:12Speaker 1: fourth or fifth round. What do you think about that price?
- 6:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean for me, it's it's maybe like ten
- 6:19Speaker 2: to fifteen picks early. I think there's like a speed. Yeah,
- 6:23Speaker 2: it's the lack of speed, and it's the the average
- 6:26Speaker 2: is gonna be kind of middling to slight drain. And
- 6:30Speaker 2: so I think that there's other like for this, Like
- 6:34Speaker 2: you're talking about the range of guys like Ozzie Albi's,
- 6:37Speaker 2: Marcus Simeon, Jordan Westberg, like other guys that can fill
- 6:41Speaker 2: the stat sheet much better and aren't gonna be that
- 6:46Speaker 2: far off the overall power and overall RBIs that you
- 6:49Speaker 2: can go pick this up later, Like you know, there's
- 6:52Speaker 2: guys later in the draft that can make up for
- 6:55Speaker 2: the slight shortfall you have in those power output categories
- 6:59Speaker 2: much easier than what you're gonna getless speeds, So for me,
- 7:03Speaker 2: bump them back ten, probably fifteen spots from what you're
- 7:06Speaker 2: seeing right now.
- 7:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think it's a relatively fair price,
- 7:10Speaker 1: just because we've talked about it over the past couple
- 7:12Speaker 1: of episodes. That first space is really shallow. So if
- 7:15Speaker 1: you do want to give yourself a shot at like
- 7:18Speaker 1: filling that position, setting it and forgetting it, I don't
- 7:21Speaker 1: think you can go wrong with Alonzo that. Like you said,
- 7:23Speaker 1: maybe it's a little bit rich, but I can't blame
- 7:26Speaker 1: the price considering what options start coming down the pike
- 7:30Speaker 1: for first base after a couple of rounds that I
- 7:32Speaker 1: can totally understand, especially if if you do pencil in
- 7:35Speaker 1: a little bit of that upside with Juan Soto and
- 7:38Speaker 1: Francisco Lindor hitting in front of him. So yeah, I
- 7:41Speaker 1: think pre solid landing spot for peed, Alanzo will see
- 7:45Speaker 1: what he kind of can do. I mean, I guess
- 7:47Speaker 1: maybe with the contract structure too, maybe it does light
- 7:49Speaker 1: a fire underneath him to be able to produce and
- 7:51Speaker 1: try to hit the market again, so you have to
- 7:54Speaker 1: put that factor in there too. But overall, yeah, I
- 7:57Speaker 1: think it's a pretty much same old, same old for peed.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Alonzo can project just about what he's done on average
- 8:03Speaker 1: every year throughout his career, So great landing spot. Okay
- 8:07Speaker 1: with that, let's get right into our overview. A TOPS
- 8:10Speaker 1: Series one from twenty twenty five. This is the first
- 8:12Speaker 1: twenty twenty five release, I mean not in total of
- 8:16Speaker 1: all baseball cars, because we've been covering the late twenty
- 8:18Speaker 1: twenty four releases that have been hitting over the past
- 8:21Speaker 1: couple months, and this is dropping on February twelfth. This
- 8:26Speaker 1: is honestly one of the hallmarks of the beginning of
- 8:29Speaker 1: the season. Along with I received my Baseball Prospectus big
- 8:35Speaker 1: old book. The annual came within the last week. Once
- 8:39Speaker 1: that hits, and then the TOPS Series one releases, it
- 8:42Speaker 1: is prime baseball time, so we've got a great set
- 8:46Speaker 1: here from TOPS. The design I think harkens back a
- 8:49Speaker 1: little bit to like the twenty twenty one we talked about,
- 8:52Speaker 1: but it does have bringing back the white border, keeping
- 8:56Speaker 1: lots of wavy lines. The team name will be on there,
- 8:59Speaker 1: which already is a little bit interesting because I think
- 9:02Speaker 1: they made that move slightly for the athletics. You have
- 9:05Speaker 1: to think that usually they put like the full city
- 9:09Speaker 1: and team name, but they've just dropped the city going
- 9:13Speaker 1: into this design. And then you've also got I think
- 9:17Speaker 1: one of the coolest features on the new design here
- 9:19Speaker 1: for twenty twenty five is that they put instead of
- 9:23Speaker 1: the position, it's got a little baseball diamond on the
- 9:28Speaker 1: corner of the card where there's a dot for the
- 9:31Speaker 1: player's position. What do you think about that, because I
- 9:34Speaker 1: have seen some people who aren't a fan of it.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I think especially it's a little strange for players who
- 9:40Speaker 1: might be like usually outfielders to have to designate an
- 9:43Speaker 1: outfield spot for them, or guys who are utility men.
- 9:47Speaker 1: It'll be interesting to see how TOPS if there's a
- 9:51Speaker 1: method to the madness on the positioning or if it
- 9:54Speaker 1: is just kind of what they consider to be, you know,
- 9:58Speaker 1: the intern going through the stats in in determining that.
- 10:01Speaker 1: So what do you think about that? Because that is
- 10:03Speaker 1: a new change never seen before, I believe on a
- 10:06Speaker 1: TOPS product where they don't actually list the position.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I I actually kind of like it.
- 10:12Speaker 2: I at first like, I don't, I'm not I'm not
- 10:14Speaker 2: there because the thing I'm okay with is is on
- 10:17Speaker 2: the back of the car, which is very hard to
- 10:18Speaker 2: find pictures of the back of the car because they're
- 10:21Speaker 2: not supposed to be out there yet. But there's someone
- 10:23Speaker 2: already on eBay and things like that. They do list
- 10:26Speaker 2: the full team name and the in the position. The
- 10:30Speaker 2: one thing that I haven't spent enough time to look
- 10:31Speaker 2: to see is, you know, when they when they do outfield, like,
- 10:35Speaker 2: are they doing like just a little dot for like outfield?
- 10:40Speaker 2: Is it always in center field? I haven't been able
- 10:42Speaker 2: to look at that closely, but it seems like every
- 10:44Speaker 2: outfielder I've looked at seems to have that dot though.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Actually just saw one for for resigns, which showing in
- 10:50Speaker 2: right field, So okay, but you know, but all the cards,
- 10:55Speaker 2: of all the cards, resigns is the one I found,
- 10:58Speaker 2: but on the back it still says outfeld even though
- 11:00Speaker 2: it shows it in right field. So I actually think
- 11:02Speaker 2: it's kind of a nice, little simple nod that they're
- 11:05Speaker 2: able to put on there. It's not overwhelming it's just
- 11:07Speaker 2: a subtle touch, but they don't they still have the
- 11:09Speaker 2: information still in the card, So I think it's it's
- 11:13Speaker 2: different and neat. I don't know, I'm kind of I'm
- 11:15Speaker 2: kind of okay with it.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I like it too. That it is
- 11:19Speaker 1: a nice little element of like a modernity moder modernity
- 11:26Speaker 1: is the word I'm trying to say in that level,
- 11:29Speaker 1: as well as like a little bit of like a
- 11:30Speaker 1: video games to it, and so like, I like that.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I think they try to do that a little with
- 11:35Speaker 1: the twenty twenty four design with all the neon and stuff,
- 11:38Speaker 1: and for me, it fell a little flat. But this
- 11:40Speaker 1: does feel a lot more natural and it just kind
- 11:43Speaker 1: of fits with the overall cleaner theme. And if you
- 11:47Speaker 1: do want to see pictures of anything that we're talking
- 11:49Speaker 1: about here, certainly do check out rasball dot com. There'll
- 11:52Speaker 1: be a corresponding post that goes with this podcast, and
- 11:55Speaker 1: so you're not gonna have to just be in the
- 11:58Speaker 1: dark as we talk about the design from tops or
- 12:01Speaker 1: any of the other cards. Check out rasball dot com,
- 12:04Speaker 1: find this post, and then that way you can see
- 12:06Speaker 1: some of the cards that we're going to discuss here.
- 12:09Speaker 1: In terms of inserts and autos and other just kind
- 12:12Speaker 1: of cool features, So certainly do check that out when
- 12:16Speaker 1: you're there. Also look at some of those subscription options.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Because we're getting right into the prime of twenty twenty
- 12:21Speaker 1: five Fantasy season. We've got all the tools to help
- 12:24Speaker 1: you out to win your leagues this year. So, like
- 12:27Speaker 1: I said, with that, let's move into a little bit
- 12:29Speaker 1: further details on the checklist. We're gonna have a total
- 12:34Speaker 1: of I lost it. It had a total of well,
- 12:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna edit this out now, fifty three fifty, Okay,
- 12:49Speaker 1: that's what I thought of. Three. We have a total
- 12:52Speaker 1: of three hundred and fifty cards in the checklist. Number
- 12:54Speaker 1: one opening the checklist is Sho Hee Otani, which has
- 12:57Speaker 1: been a big just tradition in terms of who gets
- 13:02Speaker 1: the Star level TOPS number one. Otani showing up for
- 13:06Speaker 1: the first time. TOPS did a cool overview on TOPS
- 13:10Speaker 1: ripped about like who has been the number one throughout
- 13:14Speaker 1: the years, which is a cool little blog that I've
- 13:18Speaker 1: really enjoyed looking at some of the players that has
- 13:20Speaker 1: been Like somehow Ryan Brawn was back to back years
- 13:23Speaker 1: for a little while, John Lackey got a number one,
- 13:27Speaker 1: and then even in the seventies. They used to do
- 13:29Speaker 1: lots of like world champions ones or batting title ones,
- 13:33Speaker 1: any of those number ones that kind of stand out
- 13:35Speaker 1: to you over the years from that blog post where
- 13:37Speaker 1: you're just like either good or bad, that like it
- 13:42Speaker 1: stands out in your head as defining that set or
- 13:45Speaker 1: defining that era.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Oh, you know, I have to think about this one.
- 13:53Speaker 2: You know, it's it's probably going back to you know,
- 13:57Speaker 2: the the good old day, right, and I'm gonna call
- 14:01Speaker 2: it the nineties, and I think it's the I'm gonna
- 14:05Speaker 2: go with the Tops two thousand when Mark McGuire was
- 14:09Speaker 2: there right after you know, two years after technically, but
- 14:13Speaker 2: like yeah, a year and a half after the the
- 14:14Speaker 2: nineteen ninety eight season, Like, you know, big name on
- 14:18Speaker 2: a number one card. I think that's that's always fun.
- 14:21Speaker 2: But then you know what I love is you go
- 14:22Speaker 2: back further. It's always like, also, you had like Ted
- 14:26Speaker 2: Williams multiple times, Roger Merris, you know guys like that.
- 14:29Speaker 2: So I think those are all, you know, big ones
- 14:32Speaker 2: to me, and it's like a big privilege that. The
- 14:35Speaker 2: other thing I really found interesting is like Mike Trout's
- 14:38Speaker 2: been number one quite a few times across I think
- 14:42Speaker 2: three times if I'm if I'm counting right, and like
- 14:47Speaker 2: it's kind of like being on the cover of Baden,
- 14:49Speaker 2: like football two degrees, like the being the number one
- 14:52Speaker 2: card in the set. So I think it's right. Clearly,
- 14:55Speaker 2: you know this is Otani's second time. He clearly deserves it.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Though I'm gonna quiz you don't be looking at the
- 15:01Speaker 2: Tani card here. Going back to your comment earlier about
- 15:04Speaker 2: the fielder positioning on the card, Otani's a designated hitter.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Where do you think they put the little bubble on
- 15:11Speaker 2: that one?
- 15:14Speaker 1: Is it on the on deck circle?
- 15:16Speaker 2: It is? It's on the on deck circle. I just
- 15:19Speaker 2: found that completely fascinating. He's just like, what are they
- 15:23Speaker 2: doing with him? So I think Otani is a great,
- 15:26Speaker 2: great fifth of this number one. I actually thought he
- 15:28Speaker 2: might have two cards like him hitt, him pitching, but
- 15:30Speaker 2: I guess coming off of last season, it makes sense
- 15:32Speaker 2: just to have the designated hitter card. We'll deal with
- 15:35Speaker 2: that next year.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a pitching card,
- 15:38Speaker 1: either in Series two or update with the Dodgers. Yeah,
- 15:42Speaker 1: it also stands out to me that I guess they
- 15:44Speaker 1: should have mentioned Nolan Ryan also is out there with
- 15:47Speaker 1: three times as the number one card. Actually no, no,
- 15:51Speaker 1: I take that back four times, and then a Rod
- 15:57Speaker 1: was five and Hank Aaron was five as well, but
- 16:00Speaker 1: that counts for Hank Aaron some of the like awards
- 16:03Speaker 1: and top home runs and stuff like that. But it
- 16:05Speaker 1: is interesting that you know, a Rod got the tie
- 16:09Speaker 1: there with Hank Aaron and Nolan Ryan comes in, so
- 16:12Speaker 1: Otani should be well on his way at this point.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Like you got to think he's got two under his belt.
- 16:18Speaker 1: He's probably gonna be coming for a Rod and Hank
- 16:20Speaker 1: Aaron here anytime soon.
- 16:22Speaker 2: It's almost surprising that he's only only as two. But
- 16:25Speaker 2: that's really just thanks to you know, somebody went forty
- 16:28Speaker 2: seventy in the middle there.
- 16:31Speaker 1: So yes, that is a big portion of it. And
- 16:34Speaker 1: like I said, this set will be available very widely.
- 16:38Speaker 1: So sometimes on this show we talk about card sets
- 16:42Speaker 1: that are a little bit more limited release because of
- 16:45Speaker 1: the rarity and just the cost to put the cards
- 16:49Speaker 1: together and how magnificent they are. So those are always
- 16:53Speaker 1: either directly through tops dot com or your hobby shops.
- 16:57Speaker 1: These cards will be available everywhere, but brew let everybody
- 17:00Speaker 1: know what the pricing will be and what kind of
- 17:03Speaker 1: like the main options for boxes are.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, this is what I love about about Flagship.
- 17:09Speaker 2: It's accessible and so you're to go, you know, let's
- 17:13Speaker 2: go top to bottom here your jumbos. Your jumbos, which
- 17:16Speaker 2: are you know, one autograph, two relics. I don't remember
- 17:21Speaker 2: the number of cards off the top of my head
- 17:23Speaker 2: in a jumbo. I don't really feel like doing math,
- 17:25Speaker 2: but I believe it's roughly four hundred cards, so it's
- 17:30Speaker 2: arguably and a lot of times with the jumbos it's
- 17:33Speaker 2: pretty much the full set from a base car perspective.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Every once while you get some coalation issues where all
- 17:39Speaker 2: of a sudden, like you get like two halves of
- 17:41Speaker 2: the set, and two halves in this situation does not
- 17:45Speaker 2: make a full But Jumbo boxes are on pre sale
- 17:49Speaker 2: for about two hundred dollars, which is which is very
- 17:51Speaker 2: reasonable for a jumbo box with a guaranteed three hits.
- 17:55Speaker 2: And also I believe you're probably getting two silver packs
- 17:59Speaker 2: in those. I have not look to see for certain,
- 18:01Speaker 2: but that's what it's traditionally been. Yeah, for the for
- 18:05Speaker 2: the hobby box, which has one guaranteed hit and that
- 18:09Speaker 2: oftentimes is a relic card. You do get your your
- 18:13Speaker 2: one silver pack that's coming in at one hundred dollars,
- 18:16Speaker 2: and then you start to get into your blasters, which
- 18:19Speaker 2: continue the trend of the last few years being a
- 18:20Speaker 2: thirty dollars blaster. Your hangars are sixteen dollars, and so
- 18:27Speaker 2: those are your main ones. There's a few others out
- 18:29Speaker 2: there as far that you'll start to see as like
- 18:31Speaker 2: superboxes and things like that that show up. And they've
- 18:34Speaker 2: done a pretty good job this year, and we'll probably
- 18:36Speaker 2: get into a little bit later, but they've done a
- 18:38Speaker 2: good job of having variations by superbox, by hangar box,
- 18:44Speaker 2: by value. Back Box does also look like they're gonna
- 18:47Speaker 2: have the tens back this year. I haven't seen the
- 18:50Speaker 2: pricing on the tens themselves, but I'm sure that those
- 18:54Speaker 2: are gonna be out there. Probably my guess in that
- 18:58Speaker 2: fifteen to twenty dollars range first year, so very accessible
- 19:02Speaker 2: and something that I would, you know, completely be on
- 19:06Speaker 2: board grabbing a little bit of I'm not sure what
- 19:09Speaker 2: I'm gonna do at this point. I've missed some of
- 19:11Speaker 2: the initial pre sales. There's still a few out there
- 19:13Speaker 2: I can get into, but I feel like I need
- 19:16Speaker 2: a lease of Jumbo, but I haven't fully made the
- 19:19Speaker 2: commitment yet on the commitments, so I one or two,
- 19:23Speaker 2: which is probably where I need to decide. So how
- 19:25Speaker 2: about you, what do you think in this time around?
- 19:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll probably look to pick up a Jumbo, but
- 19:30Speaker 1: otherwise probably just blasters here and there when I get
- 19:33Speaker 1: the chance and then. I mean, the nice thing with
- 19:35Speaker 1: the Jumbo is you get the guaranteed auto as opposed
- 19:38Speaker 1: to with a hobby box, high likelihood you're getting one
- 19:42Speaker 1: of those manufactured relics, not even like one of those
- 19:45Speaker 1: quote unquote player worn or even game used or any
- 19:49Speaker 1: sort of jersey piece, but it's usually those manufactured commemorative
- 19:54Speaker 1: kind of plastic key quote unquote relics. But I mean,
- 19:58Speaker 1: especially given those prices that you said, it's not quite
- 20:01Speaker 1: as bad to take that because you haven't invested quite
- 20:05Speaker 1: as much into the hobby boxes you need to on
- 20:08Speaker 1: some other cards. So we've also got print runs coming
- 20:11Speaker 1: out thanks to our friends over at Chasingmajors dot com
- 20:15Speaker 1: who do these calculations, and so it does look like
- 20:18Speaker 1: this set is in wider circulation than what we had
- 20:22Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four. Twenty twenty four clocked in at
- 20:25Speaker 1: just under nine hundred thousand of each base card, and
- 20:29Speaker 1: this set's clocking in at like one point one eight million,
- 20:35Speaker 1: so it has certainly expanded. I think part of that
- 20:38Speaker 1: is probably the Paul schemes of it all. But we've
- 20:41Speaker 1: also got some pretty hot rookies that are included in
- 20:44Speaker 1: this set, which Series one didn't quite have as much
- 20:47Speaker 1: last year, I think, and so there's more hype here
- 20:51Speaker 1: for these rookies as well as we are looking at
- 20:55Speaker 1: the first time that we've had autographs from Barry Bonds
- 20:57Speaker 1: and Mookie Betts in a long time. So there are
- 21:00Speaker 1: a few other factors as to why they want to
- 21:02Speaker 1: get the increase that print run make sure that it's
- 21:05Speaker 1: available as much as possible. And so the rookies that
- 21:08Speaker 1: we have set for Series one are Kobe Mail, Dylan Cruz,
- 21:14Speaker 1: James wood Louder, Spencer Schwellenbach. Those should all be pretty
- 21:18Speaker 1: hot ones. My personal favorite, Mike mcgreevy's getting his rookie
- 21:23Speaker 1: card out in this set, as well as having autos
- 21:26Speaker 1: and other inserts and things, so I'm really excited for that.
- 21:29Speaker 1: I didn't really have much of like a PC player
- 21:33Speaker 1: this past year, So it'll be great getting into some
- 21:36Speaker 1: Michael McGreevy PC stashes because I love the dude. He's
- 21:40Speaker 1: an all time fave of mine. Any of those rookies
- 21:43Speaker 1: stand out to you more than the other or any
- 21:45Speaker 1: other rookies in the set that like, you think you're
- 21:48Speaker 1: gonna enjoy collecting and stashing away here from twenty twenty five.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you know. I feel like James Wood's
- 21:56Speaker 2: probably the bigger chase here, Dylan Cruz not too far
- 21:59Speaker 2: behind him. But I'm actually really interested to see what
- 22:02Speaker 2: happens with Spencer Schwallenbach. And the reason I say that
- 22:05Speaker 2: go back a few years when Spencer Streyder kind of
- 22:08Speaker 2: came out of nowhere in the second half of this
- 22:12Speaker 2: of his rookie season, and I feel like Schwallumbach did
- 22:15Speaker 2: the kind of the same thing, And I do feel
- 22:18Speaker 2: that the card collecting world was a little slower to
- 22:21Speaker 2: pick up on Spencer Stryder, and I wonder if the
- 22:23Speaker 2: same thing's gonna happen with Schwellenbach here where you know
- 22:26Speaker 2: Spencer Strider's cards, like his Rookie Gold cards right when
- 22:30Speaker 2: they came out, if I recall, they were going for
- 22:32Speaker 2: maybe twenty twenty five dollars, but people are also selling
- 22:37Speaker 2: them for two dollars because people like I don't know
- 22:39Speaker 2: who Spencer Strider is, Like he just you know, having
- 22:41Speaker 2: a late season like that. Like if you're really into
- 22:45Speaker 2: the fantasy sports or you know, really you know, paying
- 22:48Speaker 2: attention to pitching development, you're like, yeah, I know who
- 22:50Speaker 2: Spencer's Schwallmbak is and you're not gonna pay up for
- 22:53Speaker 2: that potential. It's because again it's on the strid level.
- 22:56Speaker 2: But I do feel like he's gonna be one of
- 22:58Speaker 2: those guys. It's like a big name to some but
- 23:01Speaker 2: not to others in this set. So I'm watching him
- 23:04Speaker 2: very closely. I think he's gonna be a fund one
- 23:06Speaker 2: to watch. But I'll give it to you. I'm a
- 23:08Speaker 2: grievy too. I knew you couldn't resist bringing it bringing
- 23:12Speaker 2: him up in this line.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Oh yeah, absolutely not.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I love Michael McGreevy. That maybe it's just if you
- 23:20Speaker 1: aren't familiar with his backstory. With me, I have just
- 23:24Speaker 1: go back through the rasball dot com archives and look
- 23:26Speaker 1: at the Michael McGreevy tag. Lots of great articles I've
- 23:29Speaker 1: been writing about him for years, which I shouldn't have been,
- 23:32Speaker 1: but I have, and I do agree that I think
- 23:35Speaker 1: these twelve and bock cards could make decent statue stashes,
- 23:38Speaker 1: especially given what we see in the picture market for
- 23:42Speaker 1: baseball cards overall, where you need to move pretty quickly
- 23:46Speaker 1: on getting the rookies out the door if you're sitting
- 23:48Speaker 1: on them, like if you had Treak schoobles and could
- 23:51Speaker 1: see that value rise kind of throughout twenty twenty four.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I do really think We've talked about it on our
- 23:58Speaker 1: NL East preview this past week, that I think Schwellenbach
- 24:02Speaker 1: is in for a pre special season. It's got a
- 24:04Speaker 1: great pitch mix, and I think once he you know,
- 24:09Speaker 1: especially if he can reach like the All Star Game,
- 24:11Speaker 1: and I believe he should still be eligible for the
- 24:14Speaker 1: Rookie of the Year. I'm not one hundred percent sure,
- 24:17Speaker 1: but if he does kind of get a little bit
- 24:20Speaker 1: of hardware and this Braves team is set up for
- 24:23Speaker 1: a pretty deep run, that Schwellenbach could have a special
- 24:26Speaker 1: season all coming together and kind of reach that next
- 24:29Speaker 1: ace level, I think, And so it's a good kind
- 24:32Speaker 1: of card to stash away, and especially towards the end
- 24:35Speaker 1: of the season. If the Braves are doing really well.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Start moving those on eBay while you can, because you
- 24:40Speaker 1: can never really count on a pitcher staying healthy and
- 24:43Speaker 1: that value continuing to stay where it's at.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I would say two other rookies I would call
- 24:49Speaker 2: out there, both actually still in a east would be
- 24:52Speaker 2: a teammate starting pitcher. Herston Waldrip of the Braves. I
- 24:56Speaker 2: think he's another kind of out of the raider. Why.
- 24:58Speaker 2: I just think it's a ton of potential. One of
- 25:00Speaker 2: my boys, Connor Norby over there for the Marlins. I
- 25:03Speaker 2: think he's got a ton of upside as well, and
- 25:05Speaker 2: he'll be a rookie in this class. So there there,
- 25:08Speaker 2: I would say it's a little bit. It's there's a
- 25:10Speaker 2: few guys at the top, but there's there's like a
- 25:12Speaker 2: strong middle in this release this year round, So we
- 25:17Speaker 2: don't have the Paul Skemes factor, but James Wood's not
- 25:19Speaker 2: too far off.
- 25:20Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay, Well, let's get into some of the inserts
- 25:23Speaker 1: and other parallels and all sorts of the fun cards
- 25:27Speaker 1: now and get out of the base set. So if
- 25:30Speaker 1: you are familiar with the top flagship product, what they
- 25:32Speaker 1: do is especially the biggest insert set every year, and
- 25:37Speaker 1: it's included in Series one Series two update. They also
- 25:42Speaker 1: do it in Chrome and Chrome Update is the thirty
- 25:46Speaker 1: fifth Anniversary Parallels, where they take modern players and also
- 25:52Speaker 1: you know Hall of famers and throwback players, put them
- 25:55Speaker 1: in an old design from thirty five years ago, and
- 25:58Speaker 1: then release them as the inserts. I think this is
- 26:01Speaker 1: if you're chasing any sort of insert set. This is
- 26:03Speaker 1: one of the more fun ones to do because there
- 26:06Speaker 1: is the factor of nostalgia, and I feel like they
- 26:09Speaker 1: are still relatively collectible, Like people like seeing the thirty
- 26:14Speaker 1: fifth Anniversary designs and being able to collect that insert
- 26:17Speaker 1: set this year, this one hurts because this is the
- 26:22Speaker 1: first one that actually made me feel really old, because
- 26:25Speaker 1: I can like remember buying the packs myself, even though
- 26:28Speaker 1: like it's amongst my first memories of like getting these
- 26:32Speaker 1: cards when I'd go to like a candy store or
- 26:35Speaker 1: other places throughout our youth in Bloomington. Normal nineteen ninety
- 26:40Speaker 1: is the design set, which is not necessarily like one
- 26:43Speaker 1: of the most valuable sets. If anything, it's like probably
- 26:46Speaker 1: the least valuable top set because it was so overprinted.
- 26:50Speaker 1: It's a little garish the original design on the original cardboard,
- 26:56Speaker 1: but on top of it too. It's just kind of cheap.
- 26:59Speaker 1: All of the the centering was pretty poor in the
- 27:01Speaker 1: nineteen ninety designs. A lot of the times the ink
- 27:04Speaker 1: doesn't line up, and so you get this kind of
- 27:07Speaker 1: a three d ish effect from the original designs. I
- 27:11Speaker 1: don't think it'll happen as much with these inserts. I
- 27:13Speaker 1: honestly it probably won't all because it's not using that
- 27:16Speaker 1: weird like yellow cardboard stock. But what do you think
- 27:19Speaker 1: about using the nineteen ninety inserts and how old does
- 27:22Speaker 1: this make you feel?
- 27:24Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you hit on the one thing that was
- 27:26Speaker 2: going through mind, which was the card stock. Like I
- 27:29Speaker 2: just I'm looking at it, and I'm like, that's a
- 27:32Speaker 2: good design. But like I'm like, what does it bother
- 27:34Speaker 2: me about these cards? I'm like, it's the card stock. Like,
- 27:36Speaker 2: I just I feel like I'm gonna get these and
- 27:38Speaker 2: it's gonna be this really rough like around the edge
- 27:41Speaker 2: is terrible cut, Like some of the edges are just
- 27:43Speaker 2: be all bumpy. Like I just feel like it's gonna
- 27:46Speaker 2: be that card that you'd want to put between your
- 27:48Speaker 2: bike tires and just roll down the road, right, And
- 27:50Speaker 2: I don't think that's what's actually gonna be. But that's
- 27:53Speaker 2: that's what I like almost turns me off. The degree
- 27:56Speaker 2: of that. And the other point is yes, like I
- 27:59Speaker 2: could have bought these cards and like that that makes
- 28:02Speaker 2: me feel old. We do that a little too much
- 28:05Speaker 2: on this podcast. But I I do think it's a
- 28:10Speaker 2: cool design though, Like and I to your point, the
- 28:11Speaker 2: center is going to be better like all those things
- 28:13Speaker 2: to come through and to have somebody like Bonds come
- 28:17Speaker 2: back and sign and have his cut card sign, like
- 28:20Speaker 2: it almost feels like it is the actual nineteen ninety
- 28:24Speaker 2: cards sign because that's, you know, his heyday. You know,
- 28:28Speaker 2: it's it's kind of what you know you'd want to see.
- 28:31Speaker 2: So it just fits with with a guy like Bonds.
- 28:35Speaker 2: So yeah, I'm okay with it as long as the
- 28:39Speaker 2: card stock is uh modern.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, honestly, it would have been fun if
- 28:43Speaker 1: they would have used like the throwback card stock for
- 28:45Speaker 1: these for the nineteen ninety cards. I don't even like
- 28:48Speaker 1: to produce it. I don't. It would have been like
- 28:50Speaker 1: special order because it's so crummy, Like it would have
- 28:52Speaker 1: been so hard.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Have Like the off color like off I think leaves
- 28:57Speaker 2: me like a kind of a reddish kind of back
- 28:59Speaker 2: on some.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Of these I can't imagine these are it's gonna it's
- 29:03Speaker 1: like a yellow green, so I would have to imagine
- 29:05Speaker 1: that back will. The other cool thing that they're doing
- 29:08Speaker 1: I think they just, yeah, they just posted this on
- 29:10Speaker 1: their Instagram today, is that they're harkening back to that
- 29:14Speaker 1: nineteen ninety set was especially really big for some of
- 29:17Speaker 1: the errors. Some of them are like those fake ones
- 29:20Speaker 1: where this is really prevalent throughout the hobby where there's
- 29:24Speaker 1: like ink print errors or dot errors or the really
- 29:28Speaker 1: popular or like I wouldn't say popular, but like kind
- 29:32Speaker 1: of legendary one here is that's not even a real
- 29:36Speaker 1: parallel is the King Griffey Junior Scab nineteen ninety where
- 29:41Speaker 1: like he does have like a weird ink spot or
- 29:44Speaker 1: like scab on his arm. But the most infamous one
- 29:46Speaker 1: of these is kind of like the original short print,
- 29:50Speaker 1: the Frank Thomas no name parallel. And so what they're
- 29:54Speaker 1: doing actually is for all of the cards in the set,
- 29:56Speaker 1: there's gonna be short print, no names of every single card,
- 29:59Speaker 1: which I think it's pretty cool. That will be something
- 30:01Speaker 1: that I think people will want to chase. I don't
- 30:04Speaker 1: know what it'll be short printed too, but it is
- 30:06Speaker 1: kind of fun to harken back to that Frank Thomas
- 30:09Speaker 1: rookie card because that is like one of the I
- 30:13Speaker 1: would almost say, like a top ten if we had
- 30:15Speaker 1: to do like a top ten, almost like Mount Rushmore
- 30:17Speaker 1: of baseball cards, that Frank Thomas nineteen ninety no name,
- 30:21Speaker 1: I think would make it for me.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's iconic just of that era, and it's
- 30:25Speaker 2: just like everybody you see the Frank Thomas like rookie
- 30:28Speaker 2: all the time. It's like a two to three dollars card.
- 30:30Speaker 2: It's not hard to find, and you almost forget there's
- 30:33Speaker 2: this other variation that is just so incredibly rare. It's
- 30:36Speaker 2: it's like the Bill Ripkin fun face kind of card
- 30:42Speaker 2: like it's it's one of those is just like you
- 30:45Speaker 2: have to, like to have a true collection, you want
- 30:47Speaker 2: to have that in there, but it's still so hard
- 30:49Speaker 2: to find. So I think that is a cool, cool
- 30:52Speaker 2: little thing they're doing. I like it does feel like
- 30:54Speaker 2: TOPS is doing a little more of these, a few
- 30:55Speaker 2: of these subtle type of nods and things like that
- 30:59Speaker 2: to some old car collecting. They're doing some other not
- 31:01Speaker 2: so subtle things. I'm probably not as big a fan
- 31:03Speaker 2: fan of, but I do like these these little things
- 31:06Speaker 2: that they're doing.
- 31:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it'll be really cool. So you harken
- 31:10Speaker 1: to this a little bit in terms of the autos
- 31:12Speaker 1: that we've got lined up. So give us more details
- 31:15Speaker 1: on some of the auto inserts that are going to
- 31:17Speaker 1: be in this product.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Yeah, so you get all the well, you got plenty
- 31:21Speaker 2: of different different autos, yet your nineteen ninety autos that
- 31:24Speaker 2: you just kind of kind of mentioned. Uh, you also
- 31:27Speaker 2: have chrome autos from the nineteen ninety that'll be fun.
- 31:30Speaker 2: There's first pitch shottos, there's your you know, flagship autos
- 31:36Speaker 2: that you're gonna see, baseball stars, all those kind of things.
- 31:39Speaker 2: And then there's also the incredibly rare ones which we
- 31:41Speaker 2: won't go through, all the triple autos and things like that.
- 31:44Speaker 2: But but what I what I thought was really interesting
- 31:48Speaker 2: and really great, is that they introduce the flagship Real
- 31:53Speaker 2: One autographs. And if you're familiar with real One autographs,
- 31:57Speaker 2: those are traditionally in heritage, uh, and they're on card
- 32:00Speaker 2: autos that are in that product, and they're very very
- 32:05Speaker 2: highly sought after because of the quality of the auto
- 32:08Speaker 2: and being on card. What's really exciting to me about
- 32:13Speaker 2: this is these not necessarily for all the players, because
- 32:18Speaker 2: you're gonna get the mix of there's forty seven different
- 32:21Speaker 2: players in the checklist for this one, and it's the
- 32:24Speaker 2: mix of stars and you know things like that. But
- 32:29Speaker 2: for the rookies, this is gonna be the pretty much
- 32:32Speaker 2: the only car card you can get available, which is
- 32:36Speaker 2: actually their first flagship rookie card that is autographed, because
- 32:42Speaker 2: if you think about all other series that we've come through,
- 32:44Speaker 2: you might get an auto of a rookie in the set,
- 32:47Speaker 2: but it's not the actual bass rookie card, or you're
- 32:50Speaker 2: waiting until Chrome to get a chrome version that is
- 32:54Speaker 2: a different image of that. And so you go back
- 32:58Speaker 2: and you look at some history of some of the
- 33:00Speaker 2: greatest names of all time. You look at all these
- 33:03Speaker 2: rookie cards. There's like, oh, the Albert pool Hol's Rookie card,
- 33:06Speaker 2: or the Ichi ro Rookie card, or the King Griffy
- 33:08Speaker 2: Rookie cards, Like there's not autograph versions of that of
- 33:12Speaker 2: the the rookie card of these guys. Now we will
- 33:16Speaker 2: have autographed rookie cards of Spencer Schwallenbach, Dylan Cruz, of
- 33:22Speaker 2: Kobe Mayo, uh David Festa, you know all all those
- 33:26Speaker 2: kind of guys. Nacho Alvarez, you know, one of our
- 33:30Speaker 2: one of our guys. And so there's also you know,
- 33:32Speaker 2: big stars like Acunia and lad and Olsen and Merrill
- 33:36Speaker 2: and all the you know those kind of guys. I
- 33:38Speaker 2: don't think the Merrils and the schemes will they won't
- 33:41Speaker 2: like try to like retro the Macino rookie card here.
- 33:44Speaker 2: But I think that's what's so interesting is that I
- 33:47Speaker 2: I feel like these, uh, they're also relatively rare. If
- 33:51Speaker 2: I if I recall, I have to go back and
- 33:55Speaker 2: find the odds on them to pack odds for a
- 34:01Speaker 2: for a Jumbo is one in three hundred and fourteen
- 34:03Speaker 2: packs of a Jumbo to find one of these one
- 34:06Speaker 2: and twenty five hundred hobbies. And so I don't know
- 34:09Speaker 2: exactly the print run actually now estimated sixteen packs in that.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Oh no, that's to mega. You get ten packs in
- 34:19Speaker 1: a Jumbo.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Yes, so Estimatium looking wants to get one. Yeah, they're
- 34:25Speaker 2: estimating one hundred and forty five print run on these.
- 34:28Speaker 2: And then you have that's rare different parallels from starting
- 34:31Speaker 2: at ninety nine all the way down to a foil
- 34:33Speaker 2: fractor of them. So do the math there with all
- 34:36Speaker 2: the parallels things like that. You're probably talking three hundred
- 34:40Speaker 2: ish of these on card autos of their actual bas
- 34:46Speaker 2: rookie card, and I think they are going to be
- 34:49Speaker 2: like it's I don't call it Rookie debut patch esque
- 34:53Speaker 2: like probably that. I mean, those things are have gone
- 34:55Speaker 2: crazy in the hobby, but I think they're going to
- 34:57Speaker 2: run a real real premium for folks, just kind of
- 35:02Speaker 2: like when you get that chrome auto like the first one,
- 35:04Speaker 2: people want to have that that one of their their
- 35:07Speaker 2: PC guys. So I go on and on about this one,
- 35:10Speaker 2: but I really think it's a cool addition that they've done.
- 35:12Speaker 2: And I like, I never I didn't know I missed
- 35:14Speaker 2: it until it was here, Like that's that's one of
- 35:18Speaker 2: those things. And so yeah, you go back to last year,
- 35:20Speaker 2: it was like Paul Sken's his bass Rookie. How cool
- 35:24Speaker 2: would that be to have that autographed as a tops
- 35:26Speaker 2: authentic autograph versus the secondhand market in person auto something
- 35:31Speaker 2: like that. So love, I love I love this edition.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it was really cool that like until
- 35:38Speaker 1: you start pointing it out, I also kind of looked
- 35:40Speaker 1: over it, but it is I think it will go
- 35:42Speaker 1: down as something kind of like the Bowman first auto
- 35:45Speaker 1: where it stands out because usually you were getting it
- 35:50Speaker 1: on the thirty fifth anniversarydesign or this set called Baseball
- 35:54Speaker 1: Stars that they always use or stars of it will
- 35:57Speaker 1: be that they sometimes used to be able to like
- 35:59Speaker 1: get sticker autos in. But an on card auto with
- 36:04Speaker 1: the actual rookie card design is gonna, I think go
- 36:07Speaker 1: down as something pretty memorable.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think is people are not gonna realize
- 36:11Speaker 2: how rare they are as well. With like I said,
- 36:13Speaker 2: that's run of like the non numbered is like roughly
- 36:16Speaker 2: out of one fifty and then they start numbering on
- 36:18Speaker 2: ninety nine, like might as well just number of them
- 36:20Speaker 2: all right. I think people are not going to realize
- 36:24Speaker 2: the rarity of these, I mean a little bit because heritage,
- 36:28Speaker 2: you know that those are pretty gush aren't hard to
- 36:30Speaker 2: defind as well, but they are the pret runs of
- 36:33Speaker 2: heritage are quite a bit higher, I have to imagine.
- 36:36Speaker 1: So yeah, exactly, Okay, Well, while you were doing that,
- 36:40Speaker 1: I was preparing myself with plenty of liquid to be
- 36:43Speaker 1: able to do the parallel runoff because even though we've
- 36:47Speaker 1: got four cut so or three cuts, three of the
- 36:50Speaker 1: classics were cut here in terms of the Father's Day
- 36:53Speaker 1: and Mother's Day parallels, which were blue and pink and
- 36:57Speaker 1: both of fifty. They also cut the black parallels, which
- 37:00Speaker 1: is I think a little strange because that was one
- 37:03Speaker 1: of the ones where they it would increase every year
- 37:09Speaker 1: like in terms of how many they put out, and
- 37:11Speaker 1: so it was really fun the way the watch that
- 37:14Speaker 1: would work over time. But it is cut because while
- 37:18Speaker 1: I'm actually reading off this list, I'll give you plenty
- 37:20Speaker 1: of time to be able to count how many of
- 37:22Speaker 1: these parallels I'm about to bradle off are. This is
- 37:26Speaker 1: also part of the reason why I think the print
- 37:28Speaker 1: run went through the roof a little bit, because to
- 37:30Speaker 1: be able to fit all these parallels and all the
- 37:32Speaker 1: actual product out there, you've need a lot of base cards.
- 37:37Speaker 1: So obviously we have the standard gold Golden mirror SSPs
- 37:42Speaker 1: that will be for every card where that will be
- 37:45Speaker 1: another collectible set to try to put them all together.
- 37:49Speaker 1: But let me take a couple of breasts in terms
- 37:52Speaker 1: of a very daunting list of other parallels. So here
- 37:57Speaker 1: we go non numbered parallels, and I will keep these
- 38:02Speaker 1: are all non numbered until I get and say I've
- 38:05Speaker 1: gotten to numbered parallels. So we have your standard rainbow
- 38:08Speaker 1: foil board is back Spring Training. I'm not even sure
- 38:12Speaker 1: that is diamnte foil, not sure if that is hollow foil,
- 38:16Speaker 1: pink holofoil, Silver crackle board, Holiday, which is if you
- 38:22Speaker 1: recall they've been doing this throughout twenty twenty four, it's
- 38:25Speaker 1: related to the seasonal holiday. So because it is February
- 38:31Speaker 1: slash spring Ish for this release, we're going back with
- 38:35Speaker 1: the Easter theme. You'll see that pop back up here
- 38:37Speaker 1: again pretty soon. Sand Glitter Retro variation team color border tops,
- 38:43Speaker 1: foil pattern, pink diamante aqua, rainbow foil, aqua hollofoil. Those
- 38:49Speaker 1: Aqua ones are going to be in those Fanbat Fanatics
- 38:53Speaker 1: only boxes, so you can only get those exclusively through
- 38:57Speaker 1: the Fanatics plasters True photo, which is the no border,
- 39:01Speaker 1: just the photo of the card. Then we have the
- 39:04Speaker 1: Holiday Flowers, Holiday Eggs, Holiday Rabbit. Those are all unnumbered.
- 39:09Speaker 1: They actually are missing one that we'll get to to
- 39:12Speaker 1: talk about because there's a couple of other variations that
- 39:17Speaker 1: will be fun that they've got buried in here. Now
- 39:20Speaker 1: let's get to the cereal numbered Gold of twenty twenty five,
- 39:24Speaker 1: Purple holofoil of two fifty purple rainbowfoil two fifty red
- 39:27Speaker 1: cracklefoil one ninety nine blue holofoil one fifty rainbow blue
- 39:32Speaker 1: foil one fifty green holofoil of ninety nine, Green rainbow
- 39:37Speaker 1: foil of ninety nine, Spring Training Green foil board of
- 39:40Speaker 1: ninety nine, vintage stock of ninety nine, which must be
- 39:44Speaker 1: different from retro variation in some capacity. Independence Day back
- 39:49Speaker 1: again of seventy six, canvas of fifty, gold diamante of fifty,
- 39:54Speaker 1: gold holofoil of fifty, Gold rainbowfoil of fifty, which is
- 39:58Speaker 1: a change those used to be not numbered. Spring Training's
- 40:03Speaker 1: gold foil board of fifty, Orange hollow foil board of
- 40:07Speaker 1: twenty five, Orange diamante foil of twenty five, Orange rainbow
- 40:11Speaker 1: foil of twenty five Spring Training orange foil board, So
- 40:16Speaker 1: that's four different orange parallels also of twenty five, Memorial
- 40:22Speaker 1: Day camera of twenty five, wood of twenty five, black
- 40:24Speaker 1: diamonte foil of ten, black hollofoil of ten, black rainbow
- 40:28Speaker 1: foil of ten, Holiday umbrella of ten, Holiday water and
- 40:32Speaker 1: can of five, black diamonte foil of five, Red foil foil,
- 40:37Speaker 1: red hollow foil of five, red rainbow foil of five,
- 40:43Speaker 1: spring training red foil board of five, again, four parallels
- 40:47Speaker 1: of the reds, printing pates one of one for your magenta,
- 40:52Speaker 1: your yellow, your cayenne black first card, one of one,
- 40:58Speaker 1: foil fractors one of one, Holiday birds of one, Platinum
- 41:00Speaker 1: holofoil one of one, spring training black foil board one
- 41:04Speaker 1: of one. So that is five one of ones if
- 41:09Speaker 1: you include the printing plate. So that is a lot.
- 41:13Speaker 1: How many parallels did I just read off?
- 41:16Speaker 2: I lost track? I think it's roughly fifty because I was,
- 41:21Speaker 2: I was, I got stuck in the one of the
- 41:23Speaker 2: actually six one of ones, and if you want to
- 41:25Speaker 2: come print the printing plates across the board, that'd be nine. Uh.
- 41:28Speaker 2: It's crazy, so uh and I you know, I got
- 41:32Speaker 2: I really got thrown off when you got to the
- 41:33Speaker 2: reds out of five when there's twenty reds out of
- 41:37Speaker 2: five that are all just different versions. Like I'm looking
- 41:40Speaker 2: at a red rainbow foil o versus red holofoil, Like,
- 41:43Speaker 2: how is that not the same card?
- 41:45Speaker 1: Like I think it's like a little cracking or whatever.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Oh okay, we'll see, yeah exactly. But I feel like
- 41:52Speaker 2: this is one of those that were un to go.
- 41:53Speaker 2: It's like there's goulda be the rare card, like and
- 41:57Speaker 2: then there's gonna be the not rare card and be
- 41:58Speaker 2: like which one is this? Yes, they look the same,
- 42:01Speaker 2: but which one is this? Like this is uh, there's
- 42:06Speaker 2: there's there's a lot with these ones.
- 42:09Speaker 1: Yeah, So good luck to any rainbow chasers out there,
- 42:12Speaker 1: because I think it's nigh impossible at this point that
- 42:15Speaker 1: I don't know. Obviously TOPS has taken feedback that people
- 42:20Speaker 1: really enjoy all these parallels at some level. I do
- 42:24Speaker 1: think that, like, obviously it hits really well when you're
- 42:26Speaker 1: doing the breaks online and looks cool, especially when you
- 42:29Speaker 1: start getting all these different color foils that will match
- 42:34Speaker 1: team colors across the board. And but it is a lot.
- 42:39Speaker 1: It's just a little out of hand. Okay, the one
- 42:45Speaker 1: parallel that I mentioned that is not actually not in
- 42:49Speaker 1: that list but is new and you can find the
- 42:53Speaker 1: link to this in the show notes so that you can.
- 42:54Speaker 1: And also this is one if you went to raspball
- 42:57Speaker 1: dot com to check out the picture of these cards.
- 42:59Speaker 1: This is why look at because I want your take
- 43:01Speaker 1: on this. They've got a new player number variation where
- 43:05Speaker 1: each one of the three hundred and fifty cards is
- 43:07Speaker 1: going to have a parallel with the player's number in
- 43:11Speaker 1: the background kind of peppered all throughout in a pattern,
- 43:15Speaker 1: and then that card will be of that number. So
- 43:18Speaker 1: for example, you know we've got Paul Skins number thirty,
- 43:24Speaker 1: there'll be thirties peppered throughout the background of that card.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Each card will be numbered to thirty. So the lower
- 43:30Speaker 1: the number of the jersey, the fewer number of those
- 43:33Speaker 1: parallels that are out there for each player. This is
- 43:36Speaker 1: new for twenty twenty five. So what do you think
- 43:39Speaker 1: about this new parallel?
- 43:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like last year they had an absolute
- 43:44Speaker 2: home run with like the team logo parallels that came out,
- 43:49Speaker 2: and this is a call to strikeout, Like they missed
- 43:53Speaker 2: so bad on this one. Like if they would have
- 43:55Speaker 2: done what they did with the team logo, which they
- 43:57Speaker 2: kept with kept in like the outside border, I think
- 44:00Speaker 2: it could have been really really cool. But they lasted
- 44:04Speaker 2: this across the entire card and it's like oddly like
- 44:09Speaker 2: behind some of the border but in front of other
- 44:13Speaker 2: parts of the border, and like it's it's like they
- 44:16Speaker 2: couldn't decide what, like what plane to put it on.
- 44:19Speaker 2: It's like you're in PowerPoint. You said send it back
- 44:21Speaker 2: and you forgot how many times you did it type
- 44:23Speaker 2: of thing, and it's just like it's overwhelming, and it
- 44:27Speaker 2: just it looks bad. Like I don't know what else
- 44:29Speaker 2: to say it. It's like it's gonna be like a
- 44:32Speaker 2: rare card that I get and be like I have
- 44:33Speaker 2: literally no desire to have this card my collection, Like
- 44:35Speaker 2: I don't. I don't know what we're trying to do.
- 44:38Speaker 2: I'm looking at the one of the Instagram posts that
- 44:42Speaker 2: you linked in our show notes, and it's actually hilarious
- 44:44Speaker 2: because it highlights it's you know, from tops highlighting this
- 44:47Speaker 2: cool card and it's actually a body Wit and it's
- 44:50Speaker 2: kind of circling the number seven of his jersey and
- 44:52Speaker 2: then highlighting the card. And I think one of the
- 44:54Speaker 2: comments like sorry because we couldn't see the thirty sevens
- 44:58Speaker 2: on this card, so we didn't know where coming from.
- 45:00Speaker 2: Like it's just so in your face blatant, like it
- 45:04Speaker 2: looks like somebody like a kid put it into like paint,
- 45:07Speaker 2: and it's just like how many sevens can I get
- 45:10Speaker 2: on here? Like for this body Wit card? Like it's bad.
- 45:13Speaker 2: So I don't know, maybe maybe you loved it, but like,
- 45:15Speaker 2: I can't stand this card.
- 45:17Speaker 1: No, I agree, it is kind of annoying. It does
- 45:19Speaker 1: look half baked where they threw it in at the
- 45:21Speaker 1: last moment, where some of the comments on the Instagram
- 45:24Speaker 1: post also follow what you said, where it would have
- 45:27Speaker 1: looked better if it was just in the border, or
- 45:29Speaker 1: if it had just been a big number in the background,
- 45:32Speaker 1: just like a singular seven for example, for Bobby wit Junior,
- 45:36Speaker 1: instead of the whole pattern.
- 45:38Speaker 2: Like the logo, like the logo logo board type things
- 45:41Speaker 2: they've done the past.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Yeah, like exactly, not a.
- 45:43Speaker 2: Neon seven for here, Like, there's so many ways they
- 45:46Speaker 2: could have done this that would have worked, and this
- 45:48Speaker 2: one looks like it's just like I don't know. The
- 45:51Speaker 2: guy that turned in his homework at the last seconds
- 45:53Speaker 2: is like, well, I tried, And I'll be.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Fascinating to see how well the quality control was on
- 46:00Speaker 1: those in terms of like, it's got to be really
- 46:03Speaker 1: difficult to be able to print all three hundred and
- 46:06Speaker 1: fifty cards in their own number of parallels as opposed
- 46:10Speaker 1: to you know, with the other all the other parallels,
- 46:14Speaker 1: there's the same number of them for each you know,
- 46:17Speaker 1: each individual card, so it's a little easier to keep
- 46:19Speaker 1: track of, but to be able to like do that
- 46:22Speaker 1: would be interesting to see if like there actually are
- 46:26Speaker 1: enough of these cards out there, or you know that
- 46:30Speaker 1: it lines up so like there are seven Bobby Wits
- 46:32Speaker 1: and there's not fifteen Bobby Wits and they misnumbered them
- 46:36Speaker 1: and stuff. So I think it will be just strange
- 46:39Speaker 1: to see how it all unfolds. And obviously, if you've
- 46:42Speaker 1: got any number ones out there in the set, they're
- 46:44Speaker 1: going to be the hardest ones to chase because it's
- 46:47Speaker 1: an automatic one of one. I do wonder what they're
- 46:49Speaker 1: gonna do with it. Anybody wear number is zero, so
- 46:53Speaker 1: maybe they just don't exist or they somehow broken the
- 46:57Speaker 1: time space continuum to be able to to put that
- 47:00Speaker 1: all together.
- 47:02Speaker 2: So yeah, no, no, you got me trying to think
- 47:03Speaker 2: of what everybody's number is here, So you get there
- 47:05Speaker 2: and Judge will be ninety nine of those and Wits
- 47:08Speaker 2: of seven, and uh, but I'm trying to look through
- 47:11Speaker 2: this to see, like, is there anybody seventeen?
- 47:14Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 47:14Speaker 2: Is there anybody with a really really low number?
- 47:17Speaker 1: Two gunners? There'll be two gunners, yep, But yeah, it'll
- 47:23Speaker 1: be it'll be funny to see, like if some of
- 47:26Speaker 1: the really low numbered ones where it's a guy who
- 47:30Speaker 1: you wouldn't expect to have a hot market turns into
- 47:33Speaker 1: some sort of like chase card just because it is
- 47:35Speaker 1: another random one of one out there.
- 47:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's absolutely possible. So now I'm just bored
- 47:42Speaker 2: to look at all the numbers, like what's Jacob Wilson's
- 47:46Speaker 2: jersey number?
- 47:48Speaker 1: Yeah, to see if it's worth like chasing down or
- 47:51Speaker 1: a boy Mike mcgovey. What about these like some of
- 47:53Speaker 1: these rookies where they might not have like a set number.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Jacob Wilson's five, he's out of five.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Okay, that's gonna be tough one. Yeah, Okay, let's get
- 48:03Speaker 1: into some of the inserts. So we've got some of
- 48:06Speaker 1: the standard returnees here in terms of the heavy lumber,
- 48:09Speaker 1: the all aces and all aces. They switch it up
- 48:12Speaker 1: a little bit where it's not a full traditional kind
- 48:15Speaker 1: of trading or playing card. Look, it's a little bit stylized,
- 48:19Speaker 1: which I think is really cool. It's a good way
- 48:22Speaker 1: to kind of reconfigure that design and keep it moving
- 48:25Speaker 1: forward in a good way. Home Field advantage pretty much
- 48:28Speaker 1: looks the same first pitches back again. So the big
- 48:32Speaker 1: one here you alluded to the autograph will be I
- 48:35Speaker 1: think the Jason Kelly card or not Jason Kelly, Jason Kelce,
- 48:40Speaker 1: and I don't think they've released the entire list. At
- 48:42Speaker 1: least when I was doing my research yesterday, they didn't
- 48:45Speaker 1: have the entire list because they are going back to
- 48:48Speaker 1: the first pitches being a little more short printed. I
- 48:50Speaker 1: think those are always popular with the celebrities on there,
- 48:53Speaker 1: and I'm sure we might get some surprises on who
- 48:56Speaker 1: some of the autographs are as we get closer to
- 48:58Speaker 1: release date. We've also got Major League materials and those
- 49:01Speaker 1: Baseball Stars autos back. Social Media followback is in this
- 49:05Speaker 1: set too, So any of those insert sets stand out
- 49:09Speaker 1: to you more than the other?
- 49:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think the one that jumps out
- 49:13Speaker 2: to me is the social media followbacks. I just think
- 49:16Speaker 2: that's such an interesting card. It's an actual like interaction
- 49:21Speaker 2: or it's the card that keeps on playing like you
- 49:23Speaker 2: get to I'm assuming I've never actually seen one of these,
- 49:27Speaker 2: but assuming there's like a scratch off code or something
- 49:29Speaker 2: like that that you can submit to get you know,
- 49:31Speaker 2: Mike Trout or I think with Reggie Jackson is one
- 49:36Speaker 2: of those Jackson curio Andjan Soto to follow you back
- 49:40Speaker 2: on social media. Now, I don't know if it's Blue
- 49:42Speaker 2: Sky or it's x I'm not I'm not quite sure
- 49:45Speaker 2: whether maybe maybe your Facebook friend, maybe your MySpace account
- 49:49Speaker 2: still works. I don't know, but I think those are
- 49:52Speaker 2: That one, to me is just really interesting concept that
- 49:57Speaker 2: I love that they've tried to get some interaction. And
- 50:00Speaker 2: then I also really there's there's something the Golden mirror.
- 50:05Speaker 2: There's something about that, like it's just like everybody gets
- 50:08Speaker 2: a little short print and they're very gotcharn't obvious because
- 50:12Speaker 2: the back of the car is all golden. And so
- 50:14Speaker 2: I love those because they've done a great job of
- 50:16Speaker 2: bringing some unique photography into the cards, kind of not
- 50:21Speaker 2: quite stadium club esque, but not too far off that.
- 50:24Speaker 2: And so I absolutely love those as well. And it's
- 50:27Speaker 2: kind of a neat little things like, hey, I could
- 50:29Speaker 2: try to collect whole set, but they are pretty rare
- 50:33Speaker 2: and people absolutely go bonkers over trying to collect those.
- 50:36Speaker 2: So and that last one, I'll call it is the
- 50:39Speaker 2: all aces they be. I do really like that one.
- 50:42Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be interesting to see from a
- 50:45Speaker 2: quality perspective. Those have always been so sharp and kind
- 50:47Speaker 2: of the white backgrounds, the white shine that they've had
- 50:49Speaker 2: on them. Going to black is I kind of feels
- 50:52Speaker 2: like a little bit of a gamble because black cards,
- 50:55Speaker 2: always from a quality control perspective, are such such a
- 50:58Speaker 2: hard thing to do. The little chip you can get,
- 51:00Speaker 2: the scratches show better like it's It'll be interesting to
- 51:03Speaker 2: see how how those truly truly play. So lots of good,
- 51:07Speaker 2: good inserts, and there's plenty and plenty of other ones
- 51:10Speaker 2: that were we just we literally could not go through
- 51:13Speaker 2: every single insert. We just we don't have the time
- 51:16Speaker 2: to do that. But there are a ton of inserts,
- 51:19Speaker 2: but some really really cool ones that we're gonna see
- 51:22Speaker 2: this time around.
- 51:23Speaker 1: Yeah, and know Michael McGreevy all Ase's card yet, but
- 51:27Speaker 1: maybe it'll be coming down the pike. Just that would
- 51:30Speaker 1: be really funny if McGreevy gotten Allise's rookie card but
- 51:33Speaker 1: Schemes didn't that that would be highly hilarious to me.
- 51:37Speaker 1: While you were rattling that off, I was also looking
- 51:40Speaker 1: up I think the way that they got around the
- 51:43Speaker 1: numbering for all the cards that I was just alluding to.
- 51:46Speaker 1: If a player hasn't debuted yet and they have a
- 51:48Speaker 1: rookie card. All the rookie cards are for players who
- 51:51Speaker 1: have played in the majors at least a game, so
- 51:54Speaker 1: they've been assigned a number. I just did some quick
- 51:58Speaker 1: googling of even some of the most obscured names on
- 52:00Speaker 1: the checklist, and I'm pretty sure they all played. Pedro
- 52:03Speaker 1: leone gonna be a tough one. Only four of those
- 52:05Speaker 1: out there. He wore number four last year when he
- 52:08Speaker 1: got into seven games with twenty one played appearances. So
- 52:11Speaker 1: it'll be I wonder if they'll keep doing that going forward,
- 52:15Speaker 1: because if they keep that parallel, that would also maybe
- 52:20Speaker 1: make it a slight change in the way that TOPS
- 52:23Speaker 1: has put cards out, because typically when they've done that,
- 52:28Speaker 1: you can have some players who haven't debuted in the
- 52:31Speaker 1: major leagues that have a rookie card. So I wonder
- 52:33Speaker 1: if it is something where they didn't quite think that
- 52:35Speaker 1: all the way through, in case they want to pump
- 52:38Speaker 1: out like a really crazy like Leio Dallas Devrees in
- 52:43Speaker 1: Series one next year or something, you know what I mean,
- 52:45Speaker 1: like that where it's got to be somebody who's debuted,
- 52:47Speaker 1: So that'll be something that is track going forward. Yeah, absolutely, Okay,
- 52:52Speaker 1: we do have some new inserts, so we alluded to
- 52:56Speaker 1: the player number variations. The other kind of cool very
- 53:00Speaker 1: slash insert is the dancing Dodgers inserts that they'll have.
- 53:03Speaker 1: So if you especially recall watching the Dodgers all last
- 53:07Speaker 1: year that they all did this little kind of hands
- 53:11Speaker 1: over the head and hip kind of jut out when
- 53:15Speaker 1: they would get to second base a lot, so to
- 53:17Speaker 1: honor like the World Series win, they have parallels of
- 53:21Speaker 1: each of those Dodgers cards in there, so pretty similar
- 53:24Speaker 1: also to last year when the Phillies had all those
- 53:26Speaker 1: Kevin Hart insert parallels where there was like a mini
- 53:30Speaker 1: Kevin Hart somewhere on the picture of the cards. So
- 53:32Speaker 1: again this is the type of stuff where he gets
- 53:34Speaker 1: announced a little late, so I wouldn't be surprised if
- 53:37Speaker 1: we have something a la the Kevin Hart for other
- 53:41Speaker 1: parallels of teams and stuff like that. So the Dodgers
- 53:44Speaker 1: right now are the only ones that I'm aware of.
- 53:46Speaker 1: Then we also have a couple of new inserts with
- 53:49Speaker 1: the Plakata inserts, which I really like. They're inspired by
- 53:53Speaker 1: the Carlos Pena when he yells plakata on MLB Network
- 53:58Speaker 1: all the time, and the design is somewhere between like
- 54:03Speaker 1: I forget the name of the parallel, but the Panini.
- 54:07Speaker 1: One of my favorite Panini parallels is the ones with
- 54:10Speaker 1: the swing on it and the color everywhere. It's a
- 54:13Speaker 1: cross between that and like the power Zone inserts from
- 54:16Speaker 1: Stadium Club that I think they're pretty sharp. I think
- 54:19Speaker 1: they'll pretty be pretty fun cards. Also reminds me a
- 54:21Speaker 1: lot of the like ring Chaser or like the cards
- 54:25Speaker 1: with the rings and all the eagles on them from
- 54:28Speaker 1: the nineties that they had in Stadium Club, the ring Leaders.
- 54:31Speaker 1: That's what I'm looking for, ring leaders inserts where there
- 54:35Speaker 1: is just like a fun and cool factor to them.
- 54:38Speaker 1: But what do you think about these plakata inserts.
- 54:41Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm really torn because it's like it
- 54:44Speaker 2: it looks like it's kind of cool, but then it's
- 54:48Speaker 2: kind of it's got a lot going on on it
- 54:50Speaker 2: for me, Like it's it's got placata really bold, it's
- 54:55Speaker 2: got kind of a color splash, it's got a placketa
- 54:57Speaker 2: logo in the corner, Like it's just kind of a
- 55:00Speaker 2: lot going on. Like some of the like the Panini
- 55:02Speaker 2: things you called out, like some color splashes or things
- 55:05Speaker 2: like that, they're usually like one thing that just really
- 55:07Speaker 2: stands out. So I'm I'm kind of mixed. It's gonna
- 55:10Speaker 2: be one. I'm gonna have to hold judgment till till
- 55:11Speaker 2: I actually see one in person. I think they have potential,
- 55:15Speaker 2: and I also I apparently had not listened enough. Carlos Pania.
- 55:18Speaker 2: I did not know what plakata was until I looked
- 55:20Speaker 2: it up and found out that was something him and
- 55:22Speaker 2: his brothers used when they were playing as kids, and
- 55:25Speaker 2: that was like they're saying, and I'm like, hey, more
- 55:27Speaker 2: power to you. There's worse things that it could end
- 55:30Speaker 2: up on a card. I'm sure.
- 55:32Speaker 1: So it just kind of like funny that it's starting
- 55:35Speaker 1: to like seep into the baseball culture and like, yeah,
- 55:37Speaker 1: he just invented it like playing with his brother that
- 55:40Speaker 1: it's this. Maybe I just watched too much MLB Network,
- 55:44Speaker 1: is what it is that I'm currently I'm always on
- 55:47Speaker 1: date unundated with the plakatas everywhere, especially on MLB Central.
- 55:52Speaker 1: Carlos Pania can't go like more than a couple of
- 55:54Speaker 1: minutes without screaming it for something. Okay, let's get into
- 55:58Speaker 1: what I think are two of maybe like the cooler
- 56:01Speaker 1: chase cards or like types of chase cards that are
- 56:04Speaker 1: in this set. The first one is Rickwood rex Rick.
- 56:08Speaker 1: That's kind of a weird thing to saying Rickwood relics.
- 56:12Speaker 1: Where from that rickwood Field game last year between the
- 56:16Speaker 1: Cardinals and the Giants. They have like real relics from
- 56:20Speaker 1: that game as well as like I think some other
- 56:22Speaker 1: player Warren memorabilia and things like that. But it's a
- 56:26Speaker 1: nice kind of mix up from the major league materials.
- 56:29Speaker 1: And so, I mean, I'm looking forward to some of
- 56:31Speaker 1: these getting pulled because I'd love to chase some of
- 56:33Speaker 1: them for the Cardinals players that they are just kind
- 56:37Speaker 1: of a cool historical moment that happened when they did
- 56:40Speaker 1: that rick wood Field game and I really loved watching
- 56:43Speaker 1: that game. I think it'll be like one of the
- 56:45Speaker 1: things that I remember from baseball in twenty twenty four
- 56:49Speaker 1: that I that'll be one of the cooler relic chases.
- 56:52Speaker 1: What do you think?
- 56:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I think. So I've been looking. I've not really
- 56:56Speaker 2: found any examples of them yet what they actually look like,
- 56:59Speaker 2: and so like it feels like it could be amazing.
- 57:02Speaker 2: But now I'm like sitting here going, oh man, it's
- 57:04Speaker 2: tops like can they pull it off? But you know
- 57:09Speaker 2: it as a Cardinals fan like, it is kind of
- 57:12Speaker 2: fun to be able to have like kind of a
- 57:14Speaker 2: set of relics to go after. It's kind of just
- 57:17Speaker 2: for your team. I get the Giants there too, I'm
- 57:19Speaker 2: just kind of ignoring them, but I think it is cool.
- 57:23Speaker 2: I think it is also nice little retro touched. So
- 57:27Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to the Rickwood relics. I'm just I'm
- 57:30Speaker 2: just holding out hope when I actually start to see
- 57:31Speaker 2: these come out in the in the wild, that they
- 57:33Speaker 2: live up to what you know, how cool it could
- 57:35Speaker 2: be for them to really go after it, because it
- 57:38Speaker 2: feels like it's gonna be like a bat relic or
- 57:40Speaker 2: something like that, right, maybe like a stadium seat relic.
- 57:43Speaker 2: I don't know. There's so many different ways you go
- 57:45Speaker 2: with it that I hope they pull it off the
- 57:48Speaker 2: right way.
- 57:49Speaker 1: Yeah, And those are also have parallels of orange of
- 57:51Speaker 1: twenty five, black of ten, red of five, Platinum, one
- 57:54Speaker 1: of one, which is man really shortened the Cardinals. There
- 57:58Speaker 1: are only one team color pair, well, the Giants get
- 58:01Speaker 1: two and the Cardinals ones five that if I would
- 58:04Speaker 1: make in that set, I would have even it out
- 58:06Speaker 1: a little bit. But we're team color match here as
- 58:08Speaker 1: part of the problem. I think that we like the
- 58:10Speaker 1: color match just too much that it's hard to always
- 58:13Speaker 1: see the Cardinals coming at of five, so brutal to collect.
- 58:17Speaker 1: The other one I want to call out is Larry
- 58:19Speaker 1: David has autocraft cards in this set, so I think
- 58:22Speaker 1: these are going to be a hot commodity just because
- 58:25Speaker 1: he's never had a baseball card signed, and usually this
- 58:29Speaker 1: is the type of thing that ends up in Allen
- 58:30Speaker 1: and genter or tops archives, but it's really cool to
- 58:34Speaker 1: see it in series one. So the design of the
- 58:37Speaker 1: Larry David card is it's just a picture of him
- 58:40Speaker 1: from when they were playing a baseball game on Curb
- 58:43Speaker 1: Your Enthusiasm. In the twenty twenty five design, Larry David's
- 58:47Speaker 1: got a great auto, so it's it's a good looking
- 58:51Speaker 1: auto on top of it being Larry David. So I
- 58:54Speaker 1: think it's going to be highly collectible for those kind
- 58:56Speaker 1: of two factors of you know, the comedy Larry David fan,
- 59:00Speaker 1: but also like it would be a cool card just
- 59:04Speaker 1: display because Larry David Kudo is on your beautiful, beautiful
- 59:07Speaker 1: signature my man.
- 59:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I'll give them credit. The signature is
- 59:11Speaker 2: pretty good. Person Goshtren good. Like I I have to say, though,
- 59:14Speaker 2: like there's a little part of me like if I
- 59:17Speaker 2: pulled one of these, I'd be like, cool, it's collectible.
- 59:19Speaker 2: I'll sell it like the type of thing, because it's
- 59:21Speaker 2: just it's not like if I'm opening a hobby box
- 59:24Speaker 2: and I'm like so excited, like, am I gonna pull
- 59:26Speaker 2: the Kobe Mayo Auto? Am I gonna get one of these,
- 59:29Speaker 2: you know, real one autout? And I pull out Larry David,
- 59:32Speaker 2: I'll be like I even get a baseball card like
- 59:36Speaker 2: Jason Kelcey, like come on, guys, like and so like
- 59:39Speaker 2: I get that there actually probably more valuable, more collectible,
- 59:41Speaker 2: but there's just a little part of me it's just
- 59:43Speaker 2: like do I get a second auto because I didn't
- 59:45Speaker 2: get a baseball player's auto in this one. So I've
- 59:50Speaker 2: got mixed emotions of it. But hey, if you're a
- 59:52Speaker 2: big Larry David fan, like, yeah, of course it's got
- 59:56Speaker 2: to hit close to home and be real collectible.
- 59:58Speaker 1: Here, well, I mean yeah, think i'd ever be hearing
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: somebody really want there Drew Romo auto instead of their
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: Larry David auto is on this but it's well, let's
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: not go too far. But yeah, I think that hits
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: all the highlights here from top Series one twenty twenty five.
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be a great set. Like I said,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: I really love the design and at the nineteen ninety
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: ninety in or nineteen ninety inserts, So I think it's
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: gonna be just cool watching all these cards get opened.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: Let's wrap it up here then, unless you've got anything
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: else to kind of call out in series one, Like
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: I said, there's gonna be more news as we get
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: closer and closer to release date on February twelfth of
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: the as they drop different celebrity autos, different parallels and
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: things like that, so we can loop back to those
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: when we get the chance.
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just gonna get my pre order and that's
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: what I've gotta get doing before we finished up here,
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: so I got work to do. But yeah, I think
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: we'll have to come back and talk about, you know,
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: since this is one of those sets that both you
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: and I like to get into at the beginnd of
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: the year, like how we do any cool cards? We hit?
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: Any real one autos? Did anybody get any of the
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: player numbered variations? I'd be real power to you if
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: you get in one of the two Gunner Henderson's of
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: those that'd be pretty cool but still ugly.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: As all get out.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: So I think it'll be fun to come back and
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: talk about it. But yeah, let's wrap it up here.

- 1:02:55Speaker 1: write out pretty well. I must say that, like even
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: some of Gray's kind of crazy projections do okay.
