- 0:09Speaker 2: Did you know?
- 0:10Speaker 3: Dental fear is one of the most searched Internet terms.
- 0:13Speaker 3: If you are one of the many people who fear,
- 0:15Speaker 3: the dentist, doctor Michael Reese and doctor Ryan Jewett can help.

- 0:40Speaker 1: One of the classic songs in the nineteen sixties. That's
- 0:46Speaker 1: Eric Burden and the Animals right there the House of
- 0:49Speaker 1: the Rising Sun. Welcome in. This fortune of the program
- 0:53Speaker 1: is brought to you by Radiant Dentistry. Coming up, we're
- 0:57Speaker 1: gonna hear from Bucky. I've got a high school report.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I've got something else here too, right yeah, Tyler oyeedam
- 1:09Speaker 1: the transfer from Iowa State. We're going to hear from him.
- 1:15Speaker 1: In the second hour. We got our Clark Eisenhower outdoor edition. Yes,
- 1:18Speaker 1: we have animal attack. What would an outdoor edition be
- 1:22Speaker 1: without that? Kurt Signetti is making bank. He hadn't been
- 1:28Speaker 1: at Indiana two whole years, and today he agreed to
- 1:32Speaker 1: an eight year, ninety two point eight million deal to
- 1:36Speaker 1: make him one of the highest paid coaches in college football.
- 1:40Speaker 1: If anyone thought that Indiana wasn't going to play the game,
- 1:43Speaker 1: they were wrong. Signetti will be paid eleven point six
- 1:47Speaker 1: million dollars through November of twenty thirty three. Look, odds
- 1:52Speaker 1: of me being here then probably aren't great. But I'll
- 1:54Speaker 1: just say this. I give this Kurt Signetti just hysteria,
- 2:05Speaker 1: and I like it. Don't get me wrong. How good
- 2:08Speaker 1: about four years?
- 2:10Speaker 4: Right?
- 2:11Speaker 1: And the other coach is going to come out of
- 2:12Speaker 1: the Big ten and they're going to start beating Kurt Signetti,
- 2:14Speaker 1: and the people are Indiana are going, well, we can't
- 2:18Speaker 1: follow him. We still owe him eighty eight million dollars. Hey, guys,
- 2:23Speaker 1: pick up the phone and call college station before you
- 2:27Speaker 1: do something stupid like that. Well we might lose it.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Matt Hayes of USA Today says Florida Athletic director Scott
- 2:37Speaker 1: Strickland had a meeting with boosters on Tuesday, and they
- 2:41Speaker 1: want to change. Strickland met with a handful of influential
- 2:46Speaker 1: boosters and was told continuing financial support depends on new
- 2:49Speaker 1: direction within the football program. This according to Hayes at
- 2:53Speaker 1: USA Today. Yeah, I mean that's I think that's been coming,
- 3:01Speaker 1: and it would be probably Florida doesn't play, right. Are
- 3:08Speaker 1: they off this week? I think they're off this week.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Let me double check. But I don't think they're playing
- 3:14Speaker 2: this week.
- 3:17Speaker 5: Let me see Florida, Florida, Florida.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Okay, No, I was wrong. They're hosting Mississippi State, but
- 3:27Speaker 1: then they have the open date before the Georgia shut showdown. Now,
- 3:33Speaker 1: I got to tell you this may be one of
- 3:35Speaker 1: the years that Florida has a chance to compete with Georgia.
- 3:38Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I don't know putting an
- 3:41Speaker 1: interim coach before that game is a way to go.
- 3:43Speaker 1: But hey, I don't know what they owe Billy Napier either,
- 3:49Speaker 1: But my guess is Billy and his family will be
- 3:54Speaker 1: just fine. And in wide receiver Casey Concepcion will be
- 3:59Speaker 1: available to play against Arkansas. Mike Elko would not confirm
- 4:06Speaker 1: that on the teleconference yesterday, he said, we'll kind of
- 4:13Speaker 1: see when the injury report comes out. With the injury
- 4:16Speaker 1: report came out and there was his name, wasn't any
- 4:20Speaker 1: work on it, conceptio and exited the game with a
- 4:22Speaker 1: leg injury. ESPN said it was a hamstring injury. He
- 4:27Speaker 1: continued to play, was replaced by Terry Bussey for punt
- 4:31Speaker 1: return duties. He did have a limp, but apparently it's
- 4:36Speaker 1: not it's not bad and him offensive line named to
- 4:40Speaker 1: them Joe Moore Watch List, of course, that's given each
- 4:44Speaker 1: year to the best line in America. The semi finalist.
- 4:47Speaker 1: We'll be announced on November fifth. You know, Dabo's hearing
- 4:52Speaker 1: some noise at Clemson. They play s MU on Saturday,
- 4:57Speaker 1: and they're apparently going to be without starting cour back
- 5:00Speaker 1: Kate Clubnick. He rolled his ankle last week against Boston College.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Speaking last night with reporters, Dabo said, Club has been limited.
- 5:11Speaker 1: He's been dealing with soreness all week. We're taking our time.
- 5:16Speaker 1: He's gone from day to day to hour to hour.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Club Nick tweetd the ankle in the second half of
- 5:24Speaker 1: the tigers forty one to ten win over Boston College,
- 5:28Speaker 1: although why he was playing in the second half. I'm
- 5:30Speaker 1: not sure, but hey, that's just me. And if you
- 5:34Speaker 1: can't get enough college football, start your weekend tonight with
- 5:39Speaker 1: Tulsa and East Carolina on ESPN. Tulsa and East Carolina
- 5:49Speaker 1: semi fine. The ALCS Game three last night, the Blue
- 5:54Speaker 1: Jays hit their way back into the series. They pounded
- 5:57Speaker 1: on Seattle. Their offense finally showed up amazing what pitching
- 6:01Speaker 1: can do, huh or the lack of it? Thirteen to four,
- 6:05Speaker 1: five home runs. George Kirby got rocked. Toronto finished with
- 6:12Speaker 1: eighteen hits. Max wild Man Surezer on the mound tonight
- 6:20Speaker 1: for the Toronto Blue Jays. I don't I don't know
- 6:25Speaker 1: if he'll be any good, but I'm telling you Max
- 6:32Speaker 1: will empty the tank. If that's in one inning or
- 6:36Speaker 1: six innings or seven innings, Max is gonna empty the tank.
- 6:42Speaker 4: That Homer Springer hit tied him with Bernie Williams.
- 6:44Speaker 1: For Yeah saw that George Springer has twenty two postseason
- 6:48Speaker 1: home runs. He's a big he's a big game player. Yeah,
- 6:51Speaker 1: natty hits, they've all been home runs, but he's hit
- 6:54Speaker 1: three of them now or four in the postseason. I
- 6:58Speaker 1: tell I've told this story many times. But it's been
- 7:01Speaker 1: twelve or fifteen years ago. I don't know how long.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Tell me how long Springer's been in the MLB and
- 7:05Speaker 1: when he started with the Astros. When he came to
- 7:08Speaker 1: the Astros, the Astros were horrible, they were in their
- 7:11Speaker 1: horrible phase. I went down to Houston twenty fourteen. Yeah,
- 7:16Speaker 1: that's kind of what I was figured. Eleven years so
- 7:19Speaker 1: this was twenty fourteen, twenty fifteen. I went down there,
- 7:22Speaker 1: saw the Astros and Rangers. Of course, the Rangers were
- 7:25Speaker 1: kicking their butt, which is why I was there anyway,
- 7:27Speaker 1: because we knew they would. But this kid, this kid
- 7:31Speaker 1: stood out. I said, this kid is a player. I
- 7:37Speaker 1: should probably be an MLB scout, But since I don't
- 7:41Speaker 1: want all the travel and the low pey, I'm probably
- 7:46Speaker 1: not going to do that. I could be an advisor.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I mean, I could advise. I could let them know
- 7:53Speaker 1: if they could play or not play. I knew George
- 7:55Speaker 1: Springer could play Brewers Dodgers five o'clock this afternoon.
- 8:00Speaker 4: Is it just me?
- 8:01Speaker 1: Or do you have to hunt all over TV and
- 8:04Speaker 1: streaming to find these games? Are they new? Every freaking
- 8:09Speaker 1: night on a new network.
- 8:12Speaker 6: Springer had eight hits in six games against the Rangers, agger.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Eight hits and six games. That's probably why I liked him.
- 8:18Speaker 1: He was the only one hitting. They were terrible, Uh,
- 8:24Speaker 1: I mean these anyway, It doesn't matter Brewers, Dodgers, Dodgers
- 8:29Speaker 1: up to Zip, Blue Jays Mariners. Now, if the Blue
- 8:34Speaker 1: Jays win tonight, it's on. There's trouble in padre Land, apparently.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Kevin Ace of the San Diego Union Tribune and John
- 8:46Speaker 1: Hayman of the New York Post, writing about discontent under
- 8:51Speaker 1: the surface with the manager Mike Schilt, Haymond's revealed a
- 8:59Speaker 1: relationship between Shilton one of his coaches, deteriorated so completely
- 9:03Speaker 1: that a fight nearly broke out. Ace said today a
- 9:08Speaker 1: slew of team sources characterized him as unyielding, demanding of
- 9:12Speaker 1: his coaching staff and the team support staff, and having
- 9:15Speaker 1: a tendency to micro manage and possessing a quick temper
- 9:19Speaker 1: that is easily triggered by questioning or feedback. Remember when
- 9:24Speaker 1: everybody asked back in twenty twenty one, why the saint
- 9:28Speaker 1: was Cardinals fired this guy after he won ninety games
- 9:32Speaker 1: and brought the Cardinals back. Yes, sir, Rusty's on the line,
- 9:38Speaker 1: bring Rusty Up, we got to talk to Rusty. Rusty,
- 9:43Speaker 1: what's going on?
- 9:44Speaker 7: Ay?
- 9:45Speaker 8: Chip, I heard you talking about Springer. Yes, and I
- 9:48Speaker 8: totally agree with you should be a major league scout.
- 9:52Speaker 8: And I'm gonna tell you that why you've got major
- 9:55Speaker 8: league I'm gonna be an NFL scout. Okay, because here's
- 9:59Speaker 8: one that I'm notice right away. Okay, I watched I
- 10:02Speaker 8: watched Larry Fitzgerald's single handed hand Texas A and.
- 10:07Speaker 1: M hey, Rusty was it wasn't that the second game?
- 10:10Speaker 1: Didn't Did they go to Pittsburgh first and then come here?
- 10:13Speaker 8: Yes? So he manhandled him twice.
- 10:16Speaker 4: But yes.
- 10:17Speaker 8: But but you know what I said after that game.
- 10:19Speaker 8: I told my wife, I said, you know what, he's
- 10:22Speaker 8: going to play in the NFL?
- 10:24Speaker 1: Yeah something?
- 10:26Speaker 8: How about that?
- 10:27Speaker 1: You called it? Man, hall of famer, you called it.
- 10:30Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's awesome. You have all the tools.
- 10:34Speaker 8: But I think I was the first one to notice.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think so. I know you. I know
- 10:41Speaker 1: you were there the year before when it was about
- 10:42Speaker 1: one hundred and five degrees here in Pittsburgh that afternoon.
- 10:46Speaker 8: I was.
- 10:49Speaker 1: He kind of stood out.
- 10:50Speaker 8: Couldn't let that go. I thanks man?
- 10:55Speaker 1: Uh, Rusty's just saying I'm not the only one that
- 10:57Speaker 1: can pick talent, that has an eye for talent. You know,
- 11:03Speaker 1: I thought Zach Thomas was an NFL player at Texas Tech.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Turns out I was right about that too, all right.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Bruce Pearl, who announced his retirement you know a week
- 11:18Speaker 1: or so ago, is set to join t INT Sports
- 11:23Speaker 1: for the upcoming college basketball season. He will be part
- 11:26Speaker 1: of the network's inaugural coverage of the Big East and
- 11:29Speaker 1: Big Twelve. He will be included in the network's coverage
- 11:33Speaker 1: of the basketball Tournament. Pearl will join host Adam left
- 11:40Speaker 1: co Left co never heard of him, and analysis by
- 11:48Speaker 1: Jalen Rose and Jamal Mashburn. I do know them, So
- 11:53Speaker 1: there you go, Bruce Pearl, I think decided that maybe
- 11:57Speaker 1: being a senator wasn't the best plaid for basketball life
- 12:03Speaker 1: after basketball. Okay, we'll take a break. We're gonna here
- 12:07Speaker 1: for bucket when we come back. Final Lap is brought
- 12:10Speaker 1: to you by Chad Jones.
- 12:11Speaker 9: Law.
- 12:12Speaker 10: I'm Chad Jones. Each year, our team looks forward to
- 12:14Speaker 10: one of our favorite traditions, our annual Coach for Kids event,
- 12:17Speaker 10: where we get back by providing coach to the local
- 12:19Speaker 10: children who need them most. On Saturday, October eighteenth, ten
- 12:22Speaker 10: to noon, we invite you to our Chad Jones Law
- 12:24Speaker 10: office at twenty eight eleven Earl Rudder Freeway for this
- 12:27Speaker 10: special drive through event. We'll be handing out Coach for Kids,
- 12:30Speaker 10: so come see us and as always, your child must
- 12:33Speaker 10: be present to pick out their coat. It's the twelfth
- 12:35Speaker 10: annual Coach for Kids Event Saturday October eighteenth at Chad
- 12:38Speaker 10: Jones Law in College Station.
- 12:43Speaker 11: Did you know there's an entirely different skill set when
- 12:46Speaker 11: it comes to super speedway racing like Talladega and Daytona.
- 12:49Speaker 11: Here's driver Chris Busher.
- 12:51Speaker 6: There is a skill set to speedway racing right There
- 12:54Speaker 6: are teams that have handling, figure out and speed. There's
- 12:58Speaker 6: a strategy to it, but there is certainly a much
- 13:02Speaker 6: more elevated luck factor involved as well. We all know
- 13:06Speaker 6: that and that's accepted throughout the year, but it certainly
- 13:10Speaker 6: puts puts a lot on the line for a day
- 13:14Speaker 6: that that you know, and not that this can't happen
- 13:16Speaker 6: any given week, but one mistake from a single person
- 13:19Speaker 6: can can wipe out ten, twelve, fifteen cars in an
- 13:23Speaker 6: instant At Talladega, where that's much less likelihood at other places.
- 13:28Speaker 5: So it's part of racing and it is what it is.
- 13:32Speaker 6: It certainly makes it difficult to to get through all
- 13:35Speaker 6: the way.
- 13:35Speaker 5: To the end and feel like you have the most
- 13:40Speaker 5: deserving cars fighting for a playoff at the end.
- 13:43Speaker 6: So you know, maybe I'm talking a little bit out
- 13:46Speaker 6: of turn because we're not in it, but certainly I
- 13:49Speaker 6: know we're good.
- 13:50Speaker 5: At Talladega and Daytona and these styles of racetracks.
- 13:53Speaker 6: So you know, on one side you want to be
- 13:55Speaker 6: selfish about it and say this is just more opportunity,
- 13:58Speaker 6: but at the same time, just you want everything to
- 14:01Speaker 6: feel like you have the most control possible, and you
- 14:04Speaker 6: certainly give away a good chunk of that.
- 14:07Speaker 2: When we go speedway racing, you're on the final lap.
- 14:11Speaker 2: This sandwich, it's a complete game changer.
- 14:13Speaker 9: Hello, this is Mike, And a little thing I love
- 14:15Speaker 9: about the Chick fil A Pretzel Cheddar Club is that
- 14:18Speaker 9: juicy chicken with that toasy pretzel bun.
- 14:20Speaker 2: That bun. It's crispy, cozy, just amazing.
- 14:23Speaker 9: With the pretzel bun, the Dijon mustard and the chicken,
- 14:26Speaker 9: it makes that sweet, savory kind of combination. It's everything
- 14:29Speaker 9: that you love about food rolled into one. It looks phenomenal,
- 14:33Speaker 9: it tastes great, It's delicious.
- 14:35Speaker 12: Order the pretzel Cheddar Club with Cherry Berrian's right for
- 14:37Speaker 12: a limited time on the Chick fil A app. Real
- 14:39Speaker 12: guests paid for their testimonial.

- 16:02Speaker 1: then Baptist and Christians they hate each other, SMU and
- 16:07Speaker 1: Clemson A and m Arkansas and Washington, the Redskins at
- 16:13Speaker 1: the Cowboys. Remember when that used to be like a
- 16:16Speaker 1: game that people got excited for.
- 16:19Speaker 2: That was a long time ago.
- 16:20Speaker 1: Anyway, there's ten games on the schedule. Make your picks.
- 16:23Speaker 1: We'll give away a weekly prize on Monday, and somebody's
- 16:26Speaker 1: going to take a step closer to getting their name
- 16:29Speaker 1: engraved on the cup. Which is why we all play.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Friday's Fareless Football Forecast Contest, a division of Sports Talk
- 16:36Speaker 1: America's most loved football Pick Them Contest, has brought to

- 16:43Speaker 1: All Right, I promise Bucky, this is before yesterday's meeting
- 16:49Speaker 1: with all the SEC media. He sat down with local
- 16:52Speaker 1: media on Wednesday. Here's Bucky.
- 16:55Speaker 4: Had you ever testified? I don't think I have. You know,
- 17:00Speaker 4: that's the first time.
- 17:01Speaker 14: Yeah, how do you How do your guys feel about
- 17:04Speaker 14: you fighting for him basically to do the right thing.
- 17:08Speaker 15: Well, you always want to do right by your players,
- 17:10Speaker 15: I mean, that's for sure, particularly when you know he
- 17:13Speaker 15: got a good kid, someone like Rashaun who you know,
- 17:16Speaker 15: you feel like he's there's merit to what he uh
- 17:19Speaker 15: what he was fighting.
- 17:21Speaker 16: Y'all spoken really highly of him throughout this offseason. Just
- 17:25Speaker 16: at what point early on did you see, like when
- 17:28Speaker 16: he got here that he could be that kind of.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Guy I saw when I recruited him.
- 17:31Speaker 15: It's just personalities and infectious and like I just remember
- 17:34Speaker 15: like he pretty much in athletics, just like in life,
- 17:39Speaker 15: if someone knows who they are, like they're probably destined
- 17:41Speaker 15: to be successful, right, there's a constant journey of like
- 17:44Speaker 15: who am I? And here's who I am? And you know,
- 17:47Speaker 15: right down the line line in life, it's the same
- 17:49Speaker 15: as an athlete. With Rashawn, I could just tell from
- 17:52Speaker 15: the moment he got here on his recruiting visit, like
- 17:55Speaker 15: this was no pretender. He knew who he was and
- 17:57Speaker 15: if you know who you are, then you can lead others.
- 18:00Speaker 15: And so I saw that on his recruiting visit and
- 18:02Speaker 15: then how vocal he was, and you know, so the
- 18:07Speaker 15: other players respect him.
- 18:08Speaker 17: Frustrating was the first two waivers getting rejected and a
- 18:13Speaker 17: whole process where he didn't even know if the guy
- 18:15Speaker 17: is going to be on your team. And how much
- 18:17Speaker 17: of a relief was it yesterday to get that news.
- 18:21Speaker 4: You know, you hope everything ends how it's supposed to.
- 18:27Speaker 15: And I know that based on you know, looking at
- 18:31Speaker 15: the looking at the circumstances. Early, I just like I
- 18:35Speaker 15: just didn't feel like this was just it for him
- 18:37Speaker 15: based on the circumstances. You know, I just didn't feel that.
- 18:41Speaker 15: Ever in my heart, I felt that he was in
- 18:44Speaker 15: front of the right people. They may look at it
- 18:46Speaker 15: in his favor, which you know for now they have.
- 18:51Speaker 18: Speaking of a sense of relief, like have you seen
- 18:54Speaker 18: a change of him since a decision came down?
- 18:55Speaker 4: And more like relaxed from him or any that. Yeah,
- 18:58Speaker 4: he was just you know, you could tell weighing on him.
- 19:01Speaker 15: This isn't for him about you know, he played basketball
- 19:05Speaker 15: for free. He just wants to play, that's for sure.
- 19:09Speaker 15: And so he's just happy that, you know, they didn't
- 19:11Speaker 15: tell me, I say you can't play, and so he's
- 19:14Speaker 15: just happy that he got to come to practice and
- 19:17Speaker 15: keep going.
- 19:18Speaker 16: He's been wearing number twelve, which is a big number
- 19:21Speaker 16: here at A and M. I'm just curious if there
- 19:22Speaker 16: is any correlation between the two Rashaan Aggie.
- 19:26Speaker 19: You mean.
- 19:29Speaker 4: So they he needed to change his name. No, I
- 19:32Speaker 4: don't think there's a correlation. I don't.
- 19:34Speaker 15: I'm so about numbers, like I don't even know our
- 19:35Speaker 15: player's numbers, and then I don't know the players of others.
- 19:38Speaker 4: I don't know the names of the players of teams.
- 19:41Speaker 15: Were playing, like you know, we're playing somewhere, Like he
- 19:43Speaker 15: has a number, who's at like number twenty.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Three, you know Lebron. You know.
- 19:48Speaker 15: So it's like I don't even know players numbers. I
- 19:50Speaker 15: didn't even know he's twelve to the other day.
- 19:52Speaker 11: So but you make that Joe there was a Joe
- 19:55Speaker 11: theisman that changed the tafisman.
- 19:58Speaker 4: Yeah, so what I'll vote for it. I like it.
- 20:02Speaker 4: It's fitting right hitting with uh.
- 20:05Speaker 18: You know, we talked about how many shooters y'all have
- 20:07Speaker 18: in good shooters. When you're working with your point guards,
- 20:10Speaker 18: how how do you talk through making sure everybody gets
- 20:15Speaker 18: gets the shots they want and enough shots and everything
- 20:17Speaker 18: like that.
- 20:18Speaker 15: You know, someone once said, like, if you play basketball
- 20:21Speaker 15: the right way, the ball find so it's to supposed
- 20:23Speaker 15: to go to So I'm not ever been one.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Of these like you got to hunt to find the shooters.
- 20:27Speaker 15: You just got to hunt to make the right play,
- 20:31Speaker 15: make the right pass, and not let the ball stick.
- 20:34Speaker 15: And you know, when you're in an offense, it's more
- 20:36Speaker 15: equal opportunity.
- 20:37Speaker 4: That's more important than ever.
- 20:38Speaker 15: You can't have a selfish player out there because then
- 20:41Speaker 15: the ball will never find the guy's supposed to take
- 20:43Speaker 15: a shot.
- 20:45Speaker 16: We talked with Pop and you know, his recovery journey
- 20:47Speaker 16: spilled over into coming here of course. Just what have
- 20:50Speaker 16: you seen from him and especially now that he's been
- 20:52Speaker 16: one hundred percent here lately.
- 20:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I think he's got this.
- 20:55Speaker 15: It should get back and you know, get to one
- 20:58Speaker 15: hundred percent and then start playing games. I mean, things
- 21:02Speaker 15: tough on him, he said on nearly a year. That's
- 21:04Speaker 15: really tough on him. Basketball is a large part of
- 21:07Speaker 15: who he is. Take that away from him. You know,
- 21:09Speaker 15: it's a struggle. So mentally he seems to be doing better.
- 21:13Speaker 15: It's not gonna always be easy. He's gonna have some
- 21:15Speaker 15: growing pains as he gets back, and I think everybody's
- 21:18Speaker 15: got to understand that it's not gonna be in midseason
- 21:21Speaker 15: four and first game. He's got to understand that, and
- 21:24Speaker 15: he's got to keep fighting because you know, if you're
- 21:26Speaker 15: gonna do something significant, it's gonna be really hard him
- 21:28Speaker 15: coming back playing good, winning basketball and being a leader
- 21:32Speaker 15: on the team, that's gonna be really hard.
- 21:34Speaker 4: So he's got to know that and keep running.
- 21:37Speaker 18: You're at you have meaty days tomorrow. The season's less
- 21:40Speaker 18: than a month away, pretty much. What does it feel
- 21:43Speaker 18: like since you since you're opening your introductory press conference,
- 21:47Speaker 18: that things have moved fast, moved slow, kind of get
- 21:52Speaker 18: to this point.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't even know.
- 21:54Speaker 15: I hadn't thought about it, like I just it's here.
- 21:58Speaker 15: I know it was a blurer, I know, but there's
- 22:00Speaker 15: so much uncertainty with just feeling a roster. But what
- 22:06Speaker 15: I can say is all you can do, in any
- 22:09Speaker 15: spot in athletics or life for that matter, do the
- 22:13Speaker 15: best you can do with the hand that you're dealt in.
- 22:15Speaker 4: Long term, if you play the game that way, then
- 22:19Speaker 4: you're gonna win.
- 22:20Speaker 15: And so I really feel that up to this point,
- 22:23Speaker 15: from getting here in mid April till now, we've done
- 22:27Speaker 15: the best we can do in these players hard.
- 22:31Speaker 4: No one would.
- 22:31Speaker 15: Say, hey, let's you know, have no one on the
- 22:35Speaker 15: team mid April. No one would say, let's have five
- 22:37Speaker 15: or six guys here in the summer that it was
- 22:40Speaker 15: out of our control.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Have these players controls?
- 22:42Speaker 15: No one would say, hey, let's Mackenzie have an injury
- 22:45Speaker 15: hopkin practice. Do we have ag in there as a
- 22:50Speaker 15: big piece when we're building our offense or not.
- 22:51Speaker 4: We don't know if he's playing. But I can say
- 22:53Speaker 4: that we're doing the best we can.
- 22:55Speaker 15: Do, and if we do that all the way through,
- 22:58Speaker 15: you're gonna have your best chance for success long term,
- 23:01Speaker 15: in medium term, right and medium turns this season. So
- 23:05Speaker 15: we want to be playing our best basketball towards the
- 23:06Speaker 15: end of the season, because basketball is a tournament's board,
- 23:10Speaker 15: and we're going to be playing our best basketball at
- 23:11Speaker 15: the end of the season.
- 23:13Speaker 18: Speaking of SEC media Day, what can you learn or
- 23:15Speaker 18: can your players learn from an experience like that getting there.
- 23:18Speaker 4: To go to the top of that spot.
- 23:20Speaker 15: No, I guess It's always good for players to be
- 23:23Speaker 15: in in that deal because they're going to have that
- 23:26Speaker 15: when they go in the job world, they're gonna be
- 23:28Speaker 15: sitting in front of people asking questions about them and
- 23:32Speaker 15: their organization, how.
- 23:33Speaker 4: They can sell themselves. So that's always good.
- 23:36Speaker 15: In terms of the hype of this the preseason stuff,
- 23:41Speaker 15: it doesn't even matter, you know, it's kind of irrelevant
- 23:43Speaker 15: to anything. Right, Like, at the end of the day,
- 23:45Speaker 15: no one's gonna remember who was good at media days.
- 23:48Speaker 4: No one's gonna remember what teams were predicted to be
- 23:51Speaker 4: good or bad.
- 23:52Speaker 15: It's just gonna be are you willing to He'll work
- 23:54Speaker 15: really hard to reach your potential. So other than that,
- 23:57Speaker 15: it doesn't matter for all athletes to be on a
- 24:00Speaker 15: stage where they have to answer questions the whole world
- 24:04Speaker 15: can hear, win or lose games that the whole world
- 24:06Speaker 15: can see make or miss free throws in front of
- 24:09Speaker 15: thirteen thousand, five hundred people and deal with that pressure
- 24:12Speaker 15: is going to prepare them for life that when they
- 24:14Speaker 15: walk into a job and there be hopeful, it feels
- 24:16Speaker 15: like nothing.
- 24:17Speaker 16: Papa mentioned that when he visited here, part of what
- 24:20Speaker 16: y'all did in film study was look at some of
- 24:22Speaker 16: his turnovers. I'm just curious what you've seen from him
- 24:25Speaker 16: in his time here that maybe he's made progress and
- 24:28Speaker 16: carewing in that area.
- 24:29Speaker 15: Yeah, for the short time he's practiced. He's saying that
- 24:32Speaker 15: his reads are quick, he's got a high basketball queue.
- 24:35Speaker 15: He has some really good plays and then they'll have some,
- 24:37Speaker 15: you know, strikeouts, and just having more of those solid plays,
- 24:42Speaker 15: hitting more singles, less strikeouts.
- 24:46Speaker 4: But I'm surprised for sitting out a year.
- 24:50Speaker 15: I certainly know that, he would say, and others would
- 24:53Speaker 15: say that I've seen him play his best. Would say, Hey,
- 24:54Speaker 15: he's not near that right now, but he's way further
- 24:57Speaker 15: down the road than I would have predicted for someone
- 24:59Speaker 15: to sell. I mean, you're talking about no true strength training,
- 25:04Speaker 15: no conditioning, you know, no individual work, and then no lively.
- 25:09Speaker 4: That's a lot.
- 25:10Speaker 15: And so he's further down the road than I thought
- 25:12Speaker 15: he would be at this point, but still still a
- 25:13Speaker 15: long Waydeo.
- 25:15Speaker 17: I was Mackenzie progressing and how's he kind of handled
- 25:18Speaker 17: this situation?
- 25:19Speaker 4: Matt.
- 25:19Speaker 15: He's working. I mean he's in there lifting weights, he's
- 25:21Speaker 15: gained weight, he looks good. Y'all want to know, like
- 25:24Speaker 15: when you're looking for measurables and athleticism, and you recruit
- 25:29Speaker 15: a player like that's what they're supposed to look like,
- 25:31Speaker 15: is McKenzie.
- 25:32Speaker 4: So that's what we want him to look like.
- 25:34Speaker 15: He looks like that, So he looks the part, and
- 25:38Speaker 15: he was playing the part of the got heard he's
- 25:41Speaker 15: he's not taking it for granted though. I mean he
- 25:42Speaker 15: was late to this deal because he was in the
- 25:44Speaker 15: weight room lifting, Like his mind's on the right stuff.
- 25:47Speaker 15: He can't shoot totally, but he was shooting the boot
- 25:50Speaker 15: on one leg right, I mean, not just gooping off
- 25:54Speaker 15: like getting up for HM reps. So there's no doubt
- 25:57Speaker 15: he'll he'll get back to who'll get back as quick
- 26:00Speaker 15: as anybody.
- 26:01Speaker 4: On our team if they were injured because of his
- 26:03Speaker 4: work ethic. How big are free throw is gonna be
- 26:06Speaker 4: this season?
- 26:06Speaker 20: How like you emphasize this growth in those areas in
- 26:09Speaker 20: that area.
- 26:10Speaker 15: You know, I played for a coach one time and
- 26:11Speaker 15: he asked his questions that it was a matt after game,
- 26:13Speaker 15: said how you could have miss wide open free throws?
- 26:16Speaker 15: You know that A like stuck with me. It's like,
- 26:18Speaker 15: of course you're wide open. It's a free throw, right,
- 26:20Speaker 15: they can't block it. But hopefully that's what we're saying.
- 26:24Speaker 15: Like we don't miss wide open pre throws. I don't
- 26:26Speaker 15: work on free throws a lot. We've always shot at
- 26:28Speaker 15: a decent clip. You have good shooters, you're probably gonna
- 26:30Speaker 15: make more. I just like pressure free throws.
- 26:32Speaker 4: I mean I could go in there and probably make
- 26:33Speaker 4: twenty out of twenty free throws. You give me enough time.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Could I make one right.
- 26:36Speaker 15: Now with the game on the line, with you know,
- 26:38Speaker 15: not being that situation in twenty years.
- 26:40Speaker 4: I don't know. We just try to make all free throws.
- 26:43Speaker 15: It practiced mean something, and you know, we'll see when
- 26:46Speaker 15: the bright lights come on. But I predict we had
- 26:48Speaker 15: a good shooting team, we should make free throws. But
- 26:51Speaker 15: the right guys getting to the line matter, right right,
- 26:54Speaker 15: the right line, getting the right ninety percent free throw
- 26:56Speaker 15: shooters getting foul shooting free throws is a big deal.
- 26:58Speaker 15: You know, if we got some or a lower guys
- 27:00Speaker 15: getting fouled missing free throws, a percentage as a team
- 27:04Speaker 15: won't be near as good coming back.
- 27:06Speaker 4: Home to Birmingham tomorrow.
- 27:08Speaker 16: Just you got any spots you're gonna have to hit
- 27:10Speaker 16: up while you're there.
- 27:10Speaker 15: Well, convers stations by home but that was my it's
- 27:16Speaker 15: growing on me here. If that tells you something, I
- 27:19Speaker 15: want to have time. I think we're flying right out
- 27:20Speaker 15: of there. I can't say where we're going. I gotta
- 27:22Speaker 15: go see a recruit from there, so I won't spend
- 27:26Speaker 15: much time. There is anybody going people there, Yeah, they
- 27:30Speaker 15: need to know some spots. I got some good places
- 27:32Speaker 15: around there. I know where they're doing the media days.
- 27:35Speaker 15: I grew up and lived like a mile from there.
- 27:37Speaker 15: In my elementary school was like.
- 27:39Speaker 4: Like half a mile from there, So it's pretty wild.
- 27:42Speaker 21: Can you talk about your experience addressing the twelve man
- 27:46Speaker 21: at Kyle Field at yell practice the other or not.
- 27:48Speaker 15: I got so much respect for the yell leaders because
- 27:51Speaker 15: when you're talking like this is so weird. You're talking
- 27:54Speaker 15: on a microphone, but it's like echoing three seconds later
- 27:59Speaker 15: and so like you're I don't even know how I
- 28:00Speaker 15: was able to form a sentence, because it's like when
- 28:03Speaker 15: you're on the phone, you know, and you hear yourself,
- 28:04Speaker 15: eck what I'll call you back?
- 28:05Speaker 4: You can't do that.
- 28:07Speaker 15: So for those you leaders to be as incredible as
- 28:09Speaker 15: they are and to basically hear it being regurgitated back
- 28:12Speaker 15: to them. It's pretty amazing, but no, it's great. Passion
- 28:15Speaker 15: was great. I'm glad our team got introduced. Hopefully one
- 28:18Speaker 15: day we're doing that and that place is full because
- 28:20Speaker 15: we're celebrating a national.
- 28:21Speaker 4: Championship in basketball.
- 28:23Speaker 15: And then I'll talk as long as y'all need me
- 28:25Speaker 15: to up there.
- 28:27Speaker 17: A coach, Fucky, I want to ask you, I'm sure
- 28:32Speaker 17: it was intentional, but uh, you run in a lot
- 28:35Speaker 17: of former staffers under Billy Kennedy.
- 28:38Speaker 4: How was that help things?
- 28:39Speaker 17: And what kind of has that brought Having a former
- 28:43Speaker 17: coach here and I know he's involved.
- 28:45Speaker 4: He seems like he's been at some practices and stuff.
- 28:47Speaker 15: Yeah, knowing the landscape, I mean, we brought several coaches,
- 28:51Speaker 15: our strength coach, Kyle Keller, Frank's coach here, Mitch's coach here,
- 28:56Speaker 15: we kept Shane on staff.
- 28:58Speaker 4: So this place is got its own.
- 29:02Speaker 22: Unique home field, and so I thought it's important that
- 29:08Speaker 22: we found great people that have been here and understood
- 29:11Speaker 22: that in this are college athletics where boosters can play
- 29:15Speaker 22: an important role, like a very important role to your success.
- 29:20Speaker 4: We've had great connections to those.
- 29:23Speaker 15: Who have supported the program through the years, and that's
- 29:28Speaker 15: been tremendous, and I'll say that without that, when we
- 29:31Speaker 15: got here mid April, it would have been almost impossible
- 29:35Speaker 15: to put together a roster because you had to build
- 29:38Speaker 15: together the resources in that environment to do so. And
- 29:41Speaker 15: that was attributed to the connections some of the people
- 29:44Speaker 15: that we hired. Kyle Keller, you know, embedded in Texas,
- 29:49Speaker 15: you know, was integral in rallying those those supporters together.
- 29:54Speaker 1: That's Bucky from a couple of days ago. Season starts
- 29:57Speaker 1: less than a month. We'll get to the high school

- 32:29Speaker 25: Welcome to the High School Report on Matt Williams as
- 32:31Speaker 25: they were going out to the Polaris Fund Center phone
- 32:32Speaker 25: line to visit with a volleyball coach for the college
- 32:35Speaker 25: station cougar is Keisha Thebod. How are you doing today?
- 32:38Speaker 12: I'm doing great, Matt, Thanks for having me, yes.
- 32:40Speaker 25: Of course, Being this deep in the season, what have
- 32:43Speaker 25: you identified as the biggest strength and challenges of this
- 32:46Speaker 25: year's squad so far?
- 32:49Speaker 12: I feel like some of our strengths are our senior
- 32:51Speaker 12: leadership with our liberro Hallie Nash returning and then Blair
- 32:55Speaker 12: Sebod who started for us on Varsiti for four years now.
- 33:00Speaker 12: So that's the real strengths of our team. And they're
- 33:02Speaker 12: combined with some athletic young players and our sophomore class
- 33:06Speaker 12: especially that are bringing a lot of excitement to our
- 33:10Speaker 12: team right now. So I think the mix of those
- 33:12Speaker 12: two things have been a real strength. I think the
- 33:16Speaker 12: things that we're working through at this point of the
- 33:18Speaker 12: season is like what it looks like to continue to
- 33:21Speaker 12: work for our goals in the middle of district play.
- 33:24Speaker 12: We started off really strong and hadn't dropped any sets.
- 33:27Speaker 12: Then we dropped. We lost in three last fridays at Montgomery,
- 33:32Speaker 12: and so I think that was a little bit of
- 33:34Speaker 12: a wake up call for us, just you know, continuing
- 33:36Speaker 12: to keep our eyes on the prize and continue to
- 33:38Speaker 12: go to work, kind of those seniors having to lead
- 33:40Speaker 12: those young ones and showing them what it looks like
- 33:43Speaker 12: having made deep playoff runs the last couple of years too.
- 33:46Speaker 25: Yeah, And what do you see is this team's identity
- 33:49Speaker 25: this season? Are you guys more defensive minded, fast paced? Balanced?
- 33:54Speaker 12: I would say we're pretty defensive minded, which has been
- 33:57Speaker 12: really the hallmark of our teams at College Day for
- 34:00Speaker 12: a number of years. We don't have like huge players
- 34:05Speaker 12: and giant attackers. We can play the ball long. We
- 34:09Speaker 12: try to be disciplined in our defensive system, and we
- 34:12Speaker 12: have some really good defenders. Not to say that we
- 34:16Speaker 12: you know, that we can't attack as well, but I
- 34:19Speaker 12: think that's something that we kind of pride ourselves on,
- 34:21Speaker 12: is our defenseier at College Station.
- 34:24Speaker 25: In twenty twenty four season, you went thirty one and
- 34:28Speaker 25: thirteen overall in nine and three in district. How did
- 34:30Speaker 25: that season shape expectations and momentum heading into twenty twenty five.
- 34:35Speaker 12: Well, I think, you know, it just it taught us
- 34:38Speaker 12: a lot about ourselves. You know, I think that our
- 34:42Speaker 12: district was pretty tough, I think compared to some of
- 34:45Speaker 12: the other districts in the region. I think we always
- 34:47Speaker 12: feel like we get a lot of experience out of
- 34:50Speaker 12: district play. And obviously this week we played can Stall
- 34:53Speaker 12: on Friday, and they're a great team and that's always
- 34:56Speaker 12: a great match for us. And I think last year
- 35:00Speaker 12: winning against Film for the first time in our season,
- 35:03Speaker 12: you know, in the regional final, to go to the
- 35:05Speaker 12: state semi final just brought a lot of excitement to
- 35:09Speaker 12: the program. And I think it for those kids that
- 35:12Speaker 12: were young on the team just of an expectation of like,
- 35:16Speaker 12: we can do this and we want to go further
- 35:17Speaker 12: than we went last year, but then also realizing like
- 35:21Speaker 12: it's a gauntlet in our district, you know, and you
- 35:23Speaker 12: have to you have to be ready to play every
- 35:25Speaker 12: night because there's a lot of teams capable of beating
- 35:28Speaker 12: you if you don't bring your best. And so that
- 35:31Speaker 12: was a really good experience for us, and I think
- 35:33Speaker 12: it kind of gave us a hunger to go even
- 35:35Speaker 12: further this year.
- 35:36Speaker 25: Absolutely, And you kind of talked about this a little bit.
- 35:39Speaker 25: Who graduated last year that left big shoes to fill
- 35:42Speaker 25: and who among this year's roster has surprised you really
- 35:44Speaker 25: stepped up to fill those shoes.
- 35:47Speaker 12: Yeah, last year we had our both of our outsides
- 35:51Speaker 12: graduated to Landy, Calvert, Bellaede Leon and it was actually
- 35:55Speaker 12: their first years to start in those positions at the outside.
- 36:00Speaker 12: We've been pretty lucky to have quite a bit of
- 36:02Speaker 12: depth here and so there's sometimes that like senior step
- 36:06Speaker 12: into roles where they're starting maybe for the first time
- 36:09Speaker 12: in their careers. And we have another pin this year,
- 36:12Speaker 12: Addison Nova Sad who was owner of Varsity last year
- 36:14Speaker 12: but didn't see a whole lot of court time. That
- 36:17Speaker 12: was one of our outsides this year. And then we've
- 36:20Speaker 12: had a couple of young players really step up. Chloe
- 36:22Speaker 12: Wren is a really talented middle that got time last year,
- 36:26Speaker 12: but it's just really kind of found her groove this year.
- 36:28Speaker 12: We kind of pride ourselves on trying to run our
- 36:30Speaker 12: middles quite a bit and they are pretty dynamic. There's
- 36:33Speaker 12: some of our more dynamic attackers, and she has been
- 36:37Speaker 12: really outstanding. I think last night she went six for
- 36:39Speaker 12: nine and like hit over a five hundred, you know,
- 36:43Speaker 12: and she does that pretty consistently, along with Charlotte to Ka,
- 36:46Speaker 12: our other middle. And then we had to move in
- 36:48Speaker 12: Carly Pye, who is a great defender as a high
- 36:51Speaker 12: level club players in that sophomore class as well, and
- 36:55Speaker 12: she's actually swung some for us too. She's smaller but
- 36:57Speaker 12: slung for us and she's just so really well the
- 37:00Speaker 12: player that's really added a lot to our roster as well.
- 37:04Speaker 25: Right now, you're sitting at a first in district with
- 37:07Speaker 25: an eight and one record. Despite that, what matchup challenged
- 37:11Speaker 25: your team the most this year? What do you think
- 37:14Speaker 25: that is and how do you adjust your strategy or
- 37:16Speaker 25: game plan during matches when things aren't.
- 37:18Speaker 14: Going your way.
- 37:20Speaker 12: Yeah. I think obviously the match that we struggled with
- 37:22Speaker 12: the most was the loss at Montgomery. You know, they
- 37:25Speaker 12: beat us in three, and I think part of it
- 37:28Speaker 12: was we just didn't have a great night serving. Some
- 37:30Speaker 12: of that was on us. But they have a really
- 37:33Speaker 12: good player that is an outside for them, Delaney, and
- 37:37Speaker 12: she's really talented. She's a junior, she's committed to Utah,
- 37:41Speaker 12: and so I think for us, you know, I think
- 37:43Speaker 12: a few years ago, our outside there our district had
- 37:46Speaker 12: a lot of pretty dynamic outsides. I don't know that
- 37:48Speaker 12: necessarily that's the case right now. I think most teams
- 37:51Speaker 12: have pretty balanced attacks, but she was one that is
- 37:56Speaker 12: one of those more dynamic outsides that we hadn't really
- 37:58Speaker 12: seen before, Like we played her before, but she just
- 38:03Speaker 12: had a really good night like she can have and
- 38:05Speaker 12: she hadn't had that against us previously. And so I
- 38:08Speaker 12: think for us defensively, just figuring out, like you know,
- 38:13Speaker 12: how to play a better outside like that, the pace
- 38:16Speaker 12: of the game was a little bit quicker. And then
- 38:18Speaker 12: again we didn't serve and pass very well, and I think,
- 38:21Speaker 12: you know, really serve and pass those first contacts. Most
- 38:24Speaker 12: most wins and losses are going to come down to that,
- 38:27Speaker 12: and that's a lot of things that we can control.
- 38:29Speaker 12: But certainly getting a look at an outside like her,
- 38:33Speaker 12: I think will be helpful to us to make adjustments
- 38:36Speaker 12: down the road as we get into our playoff run.
- 38:39Speaker 25: And what are you expecting for your matchup against Consols
- 38:42Speaker 25: this week? I know you talked about it a little bit.
- 38:43Speaker 25: How do you think your teams will clash?
- 38:46Speaker 12: Well? I think the kids know each other so well.
- 38:49Speaker 12: A lot of them have played together since they were young,
- 38:52Speaker 12: through the club ranks and all of that, and you know,
- 38:55Speaker 12: it's always exciting because you know, you it's it's tricky
- 38:59Speaker 12: because you a lot of luck for those people. But
- 39:01Speaker 12: if there's any game that circled on your calendar that
- 39:03Speaker 12: you want to win, it's probably this one. And so
- 39:06Speaker 12: I think, you know Cansaul this year, they're you know,
- 39:09Speaker 12: as a lot like us. They're very defensive. They it's
- 39:12Speaker 12: really hard to get a ball down against them. They
- 39:15Speaker 12: bring a lot of senior leadership and experience. They're pretty gritty,
- 39:18Speaker 12: but they've added some more dynamic young players to their
- 39:21Speaker 12: roster too, So you know, I think for us it's
- 39:25Speaker 12: just going in knowing all the things that we know.
- 39:27Speaker 12: I think we feel like, you know, we just need
- 39:30Speaker 12: to bring our very best to the match and try
- 39:33Speaker 12: to like block out the noise and the distractions and
- 39:36Speaker 12: just focus on doing what we need to do and
- 39:39Speaker 12: it'll be a great matchup. But you know, I think
- 39:41Speaker 12: for us, it's you know, kind of the monkeys off
- 39:44Speaker 12: our back. We hadn't dropped a single set in districts
- 39:46Speaker 12: until we had that loss at Montgomery, and so I think,
- 39:49Speaker 12: you know, it's just an attitude of like win and
- 39:52Speaker 12: whatever it takes, you know, be gritty, figure out a
- 39:55Speaker 12: way to win. And that's what you have to do
- 39:58Speaker 12: against them, because there are certainly a team that we'll
- 40:00Speaker 12: fight back even if you get up on them. And
- 40:03Speaker 12: so I think just you know, knowing each other so well,
- 40:05Speaker 12: you want to try to attack each other's weaknesses and
- 40:08Speaker 12: then it'll be a great match.
- 40:10Speaker 25: So yeah, And what has the anticipation for this kind
- 40:13Speaker 25: of rival rivalry game been?
- 40:15Speaker 18: Like?
- 40:16Speaker 25: How big is the community in this? Like, uh, how
- 40:19Speaker 25: do you think the crowds turn out impact your players?
- 40:23Speaker 12: Well? I think, you know, it's it's always one that's
- 40:26Speaker 12: really exciting. I think for us. It's a little tricky
- 40:29Speaker 12: because it's our homecoming and the match starts at five
- 40:33Speaker 12: pm this time, with a football game following, and so
- 40:36Speaker 12: we're really trying to encourage fans to come watch some
- 40:38Speaker 12: great volleyball before they head over to the football game,
- 40:42Speaker 12: because you know, I think, especially at home, you want
- 40:45Speaker 12: that home crowd behind you as much as possible. But
- 40:49Speaker 12: we you know, we played noise in our practice and
- 40:51Speaker 12: all those kinds of things to try to prepare the
- 40:53Speaker 12: kids for what that environment will be like, because it's
- 40:56Speaker 12: honestly not that way. Every week it does look different.
- 41:00Speaker 12: But you know, for some players, they are kind of
- 41:02Speaker 12: fed by that. I would say my daughter Blair, like
- 41:05Speaker 12: whenever people are screaming and yelling at her, that kind
- 41:07Speaker 12: of gets her going, you know, and she doesn't necessarily
- 41:10Speaker 12: have to block that out. She takes that in and
- 41:12Speaker 12: she lets it fuel her, whereas other players they need
- 41:16Speaker 12: to block that out and focus on their job. And
- 41:17Speaker 12: so I think it's those players kind of figuring out
- 41:19Speaker 12: and knowing for themselves, you know, what's going to get
- 41:22Speaker 12: them to play at their highest level, and for us
- 41:24Speaker 12: as coaches to put them in the position.
- 41:26Speaker 25: To do that right and for these last few questions,
- 41:29Speaker 25: like just going to want to pivot a little bit
- 41:31Speaker 25: to coaching. What individual skills or positions do you believe
- 41:33Speaker 25: her hardest to coach and how do you approach improving them?
- 41:37Speaker 12: Well, I think you know, I've I've spent a lot
- 41:40Speaker 12: of time coaching setters. You know, my daughter Blair is
- 41:42Speaker 12: a setter. I wasn't a setter myself, but I was
- 41:45Speaker 12: an outside in high school in the middle of college.
- 41:47Speaker 12: And I would say setting is one of the more
- 41:49Speaker 12: technical positions to coach, and I've learned a lot about
- 41:52Speaker 12: coaching it from some great setting trainers. And as the
- 41:56Speaker 12: game gets faster, the way you coach that position has
- 41:59Speaker 12: changed a lot too. And obviously it's adjusting to every
- 42:03Speaker 12: individual attacker. Thinking about what techo you want to run
- 42:06Speaker 12: your offense at compared to the opponents that you're playing
- 42:09Speaker 12: and what they do defensively, There is a lot to it,
- 42:12Speaker 12: I would say that. And and then I also spend
- 42:15Speaker 12: quite a bit of time coaching middles. I think, like
- 42:18Speaker 12: middles and setters are you know that that is very technical,
- 42:22Speaker 12: So there's there's a lot of technical things to coach
- 42:26Speaker 12: at both of those positions. I would say and you know,
- 42:30Speaker 12: I think you know, at every at every position, there's
- 42:34Speaker 12: technical things, and as the game changes and gets faster,
- 42:37Speaker 12: coaches are having to change and change the way that
- 42:40Speaker 12: they teach things and so ways that I was taught
- 42:43Speaker 12: to play when I was in high school and college. Like,
- 42:45Speaker 12: there's a lot of different schools of thought now the
- 42:48Speaker 12: game has evolved so quickly, and so I think as coaches,
- 42:52Speaker 12: you know, we are like I think, you know, I
- 42:54Speaker 12: have a real advantage because I coach club at Houston Skyline,
- 42:57Speaker 12: and I think whenever you're around other high level coaches,
- 43:01Speaker 12: you learn to coach those positions in better ways and
- 43:04Speaker 12: change with the game.
- 43:05Speaker 25: Right, I'm interested in what you said about the game evolving.
- 43:09Speaker 25: I mean, it's it's it's pretty it's I mean it's
- 43:12Speaker 25: not the oldest, but it's pretty old, I would. I'm
- 43:15Speaker 25: wondering in what ways has it evolved recently and how
- 43:18Speaker 25: fast are those changes.
- 43:21Speaker 12: Well, I think you know, one rule change that we've
- 43:23Speaker 12: even seen this year is taking away the double call
- 43:27Speaker 12: on second contact and and for coaching setters, you know,
- 43:32Speaker 12: I think there's a lot of mixed opinions about that
- 43:36Speaker 12: because some would argue that it's taken away the purity
- 43:40Speaker 12: of that position being able to get release the clean
- 43:42Speaker 12: ball from a setter's hands. But I would say that
- 43:45Speaker 12: the way that the game is evolving in that it's
- 43:47Speaker 12: just getting so much faster. Kids are being trained at
- 43:49Speaker 12: younger ages, they're doing really high level things at younger ages.
- 43:53Speaker 12: Athletes are getting bigger and faster and stronger. So the
- 43:56Speaker 12: games is getting faster and it's a lot of fun
- 43:58Speaker 12: to watch. You know, kids are super athletic, they can
- 44:01Speaker 12: do a lot of things at a young age, and
- 44:03Speaker 12: so I think, you know, I think that as a
- 44:06Speaker 12: game gets faster, it's becoming more difficult for setters to
- 44:11Speaker 12: get there and put up a clean ball every time.
- 44:13Speaker 12: And the other part of that is that we really
- 44:14Speaker 12: want to encourage all of our kids because it is
- 44:17Speaker 12: so fast that if we're digging a ball off the
- 44:19Speaker 12: net and there's a middle back there that can step
- 44:21Speaker 12: in and set it out a system ball, we want
- 44:23Speaker 12: them doing that, and we don't want them to be
- 44:25Speaker 12: fearful of getting called for a double. We want them
- 44:27Speaker 12: to put up a ball that we can actually go
- 44:28Speaker 12: and attack out of system and be aggressive offensively still,
- 44:32Speaker 12: And so you know, that's one way that I see
- 44:34Speaker 12: that they're encouraging players to like let it rip and
- 44:38Speaker 12: let it go, which I really love, you know, like
- 44:41Speaker 12: it's more entertaining, the game is faster.
- 44:44Speaker 1: You know.
- 44:44Speaker 12: It's funny. When I was in college, I played basketball
- 44:46Speaker 12: and volleyball, and I didn't play volleyball until my junior year.
- 44:50Speaker 12: I went on a basketball scholarship, and in the two
- 44:52Speaker 12: years that I wasn't playing, they added like the Liberro
- 44:56Speaker 12: and they went they went to rally scoring. And you know,
- 44:59Speaker 12: I remember, even in that short period of time, how
- 45:02Speaker 12: much things changed. And you see rules continue to change
- 45:07Speaker 12: as the game changes, which I think is a good
- 45:09Speaker 12: thing absolutely.
- 45:11Speaker 25: And last questions for you here, what goals do you
- 45:14Speaker 25: have for the program over the next three to five years,
- 45:16Speaker 25: whether it be district champions state contention, growth and participation,
- 45:20Speaker 25: And what's one lesson you hope every player takes away
- 45:23Speaker 25: from their time in your program.
- 45:26Speaker 12: Well, I think you know, as coaches, you know, I
- 45:28Speaker 12: think we always keep in front of us that you know,
- 45:31Speaker 12: a lot of these players might go on to play
- 45:33Speaker 12: in college, but a lot of them will not, And
- 45:35Speaker 12: I think we want them growing as people and as humans.
- 45:38Speaker 12: You know, here at College Station, we talked about the
- 45:40Speaker 12: Cougar Way character, sacrifice, effort, and teamwork, and really we
- 45:46Speaker 12: want them taking that with them from our program. I
- 45:48Speaker 12: think just instilling them them that sense of like there's
- 45:52Speaker 12: something bigger than yourself. It's a fight for a common
- 45:55Speaker 12: goal and a common cause, and just the discipline that
- 45:59Speaker 12: comes and being in high school athletics is something that
- 46:02Speaker 12: certainly we want them taking away and you know, just
- 46:05Speaker 12: that that we're going to love them unconditionally, that they're
- 46:08Speaker 12: that are left for them is not based on their performance.
- 46:11Speaker 12: For me, I'm a Christian and i'm you know, one
- 46:12Speaker 12: of the sponsors of FCA talking to kids a lot
- 46:15Speaker 12: about their identity not being rooted necessarily in their sports,
- 46:19Speaker 12: but in who they are and God's love for them.
- 46:21Speaker 12: And I think for me personally, that's something really important
- 46:24Speaker 12: that my athletes walk away with. But as far as
- 46:27Speaker 12: goals for us, you know, we believe that if kids
- 46:30Speaker 12: are freed up to play knowing that their identity is
- 46:33Speaker 12: not tied to wins and losses or their performance on
- 46:35Speaker 12: a volleyball court, that they're actually going to play at
- 46:37Speaker 12: a higher level, and that they're going to be freed
- 46:39Speaker 12: up to play in that way and so you know,
- 46:42Speaker 12: we would really we really like have a championship culture
- 46:45Speaker 12: here where we have high expectations to finish up the
- 46:47Speaker 12: top of the district, to make deep playoff runs year
- 46:50Speaker 12: after year. We feel like we have the players coming
- 46:54Speaker 12: up that can take us to the state tournament, win
- 46:56Speaker 12: a state championship, Like that's the ultimate goal. And we
- 46:58Speaker 12: feel like that's a goal that's the tain doubles here
- 47:00Speaker 12: at College Station High, and we're continuing to work towards.
- 47:03Speaker 12: So I would say, for sure like that that first
- 47:07Speaker 12: goal of kids, like knowing their worth and knowing who
- 47:09Speaker 12: they are and learning all those valuable lessons is the
- 47:12Speaker 12: first goal. But I think a goal that follows that
- 47:14Speaker 12: and building a championship culture is wins and being at
- 47:17Speaker 12: the top.
- 47:19Speaker 25: Oh very well, put, thank you so much for your time.
- 47:21Speaker 12: Yes, thank you for hiding our program. We appreciate all
- 47:25Speaker 12: you guys do.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Good luck this Friday.
- 47:29Speaker 12: Thank you so much, Thank you.

- 52:23Speaker 1: Welcome back, thanks for being with us. I promised you
- 52:26Speaker 1: a little uh Tyler, oh Yemen, we ran a little long,
- 52:30Speaker 1: but we're still gonna hear a little bit from him
- 52:33Speaker 1: as the team leaves tomorrow to go to Vietnam and
- 52:36Speaker 1: play Arkansas on Saturday afternoon.
- 52:39Speaker 16: Tyler, halfway through the season, just how do you feel
- 52:41Speaker 16: like this year has gone for you?
- 52:42Speaker 4: Particularly so far?
- 52:44Speaker 19: I feel like I've been doing pretty good. Obviously I'm
- 52:47Speaker 19: not perfect. We could I could be better, but I
- 52:49Speaker 19: feel like I've been doing pretty smooth for sure. Coming
- 52:52Speaker 19: into the SEC. It's just trying to prove people wrong.
- 52:55Speaker 4: For us. Tonder, what do you attribute to the success
- 52:58Speaker 4: stuff in the run? This defense is does a well
- 53:01Speaker 4: Reassi games. I feel like it's not just me.
- 53:03Speaker 19: It feel like there's everybody on the D line, everybody
- 53:05Speaker 19: on the defense, to be honest, you know, just being
- 53:07Speaker 19: I'm supposed to be at the right time. That's that's
- 53:09Speaker 19: it for It really just goes down to the discipline,
- 53:12Speaker 19: to discipline and being a being strong being, just being
- 53:16Speaker 19: like that for real. So yeah, you pick been the.
- 53:19Speaker 4: Biggest difference for the defense first three games, and.
- 53:23Speaker 19: I feel like stopping and run. To be honest, we've
- 53:26Speaker 19: been stopping to run, so you know, you have to
- 53:28Speaker 19: stop the run to get to the QB. So I
- 53:29Speaker 19: feel like that's been helping us a lot.
- 53:30Speaker 11: So yeah, about the five.
- 53:32Speaker 16: Week after the Notre Dame game, work on anything in particular,
- 53:35Speaker 16: and that at L.
- 53:37Speaker 19: I feel like we've just been doing the same thing,
- 53:39Speaker 19: just being consistent on what we do.
- 53:40Speaker 4: So yeah, we're talking about the consistency.
- 53:42Speaker 30: But has there been a moment that clicked when.
- 53:44Speaker 19: Everything felt like we got I feel like since fall
- 53:49Speaker 19: camp has clicked for all of us, for real. So
- 53:50Speaker 19: I feel like we've just been just doing the same thing,
- 53:52Speaker 19: doing the same jols and just be getting better every week.
- 53:54Speaker 4: So what's about the second half?
- 53:58Speaker 18: It seems like the defensive we recruited on the second.
- 54:01Speaker 4: Half the last three games.
- 54:02Speaker 19: Is it about that that time that it's gone for
- 54:05Speaker 19: I mean games aren't one in the fourth quarter, So
- 54:07Speaker 19: I feel like the mentality that we have is I
- 54:10Speaker 19: mean every quarter it should be the same, but I
- 54:12Speaker 19: feel like you just gotta step it up a little
- 54:14Speaker 19: bit more. Obviously the first quarter you see what people
- 54:17Speaker 19: are doing, you see what the other team is doing,
- 54:18Speaker 19: stuff like that, and fourth quarter's gotta turn it up.
- 54:20Speaker 4: So yeah, you guys get when it's their wrong and
- 54:25Speaker 4: you kind of amazed just to run.
- 54:27Speaker 19: Yeah, yeah, I'm I'm really amazed. I'm this is exciting
- 54:31Speaker 19: being a part of a team like this. It's been
- 54:33Speaker 19: really fun playing with you know, good players all around
- 54:35Speaker 19: the field. So it's been fun for real. What do
- 54:38Speaker 19: you think rightly that success on working practice practice makes perfect?
- 54:43Speaker 19: Like people say, so, I feel like that's been this
- 54:46Speaker 19: are like the success we've been having just practicing hard
- 54:49Speaker 19: and yeah.
- 54:51Speaker 16: And so you've gotten to study Arkansas a little bit.
- 54:53Speaker 16: Just what stands out about them and their offense team?
- 54:56Speaker 19: Arkansas. There they're a good old line, they have a
- 54:57Speaker 19: good they have a good offense in general. They have
- 54:59Speaker 19: a good one of strong physical guys up front and
- 55:02Speaker 19: I'm excited to compete with them.
- 55:05Speaker 1: It's Tyler A. Yemen, the transfer from Iowa State, who
- 55:09Speaker 1: has been part of the rotation along the defensive front
- 55:12Speaker 1: that's been so good so far. Brows's Valley Flooring, a
