Why the Epstein Scandal Should Haunt Todd Blanche’s AG Nomination (Part 1) · The Epstein Chronicles

• 0:00
Speaker 1: What's up everyone and welcome to another episode of the
• 0:03
Speaker 1: Epstein Chronicles. There are some stories that Washington does not
• 0:09
Speaker 1: want to solve. It waits them out. It counts on fatigue.
• 0:13
Speaker 1: It counts on people getting tired, distracted, broke, busy, beaten
• 0:18
Speaker 1: down by the next headline, the next crisis, the next circus,
• 0:22
Speaker 1: rolled out under the bright lights. It counts on the
• 0:25
Speaker 1: public having a short memory and the survivors having to
• 0:29
Speaker 1: carry a pain and that the powerful never had to
• 0:32
Speaker 1: carry for one damn second. And when enough time passes,
• 0:36
Speaker 1: when the outrage cools, when the cameras move, when the
• 0:39
Speaker 1: names get fuzzy and the documents get buried under legal dust,
• 0:44
Speaker 1: Washington does what Washington always does. It promotes the people
• 0:49
Speaker 1: who kept the doors closed. And that's one of the
• 0:52
Speaker 1: real obscenities at the center of the whole Epstein matter.
• 0:56
Speaker 1: Not just what happened, because what happened was monstrous enough.
• 0:59
Speaker 1: Not just who was around him, Because that list has
• 1:01
Speaker 1: always been a map of influence and rot. Not just
• 1:05
Speaker 1: the deal that he got. The evidence that disappeared. The
• 1:08
Speaker 1: cameras that failed. The files that stayed sealed. Or the
• 1:12
Speaker 1: victims who were treated like an inconvenience by a system
• 1:16
Speaker 1: that should have protected them. All of that is grotesque.
• 1:19
Speaker 1: All of that is unforgivable. But what comes after may
• 1:23
Speaker 1: even be more revealing. Because the cover-up culture doesn't retire
• 1:27
Speaker 1: in disgrace. It just gets a better office. It doesn't
• 1:31
Speaker 1: crawl into the woods and disappear after it's exposed. It
• 1:34
Speaker 1: changes jobs. It changes titles. It changes letterhead. It walks
• 1:40
Speaker 1: into a Senate hearing wearing a nice suit, thanks everyone
• 1:43
Speaker 1: for the opportunity, talks about the rule of law with
• 1:45
Speaker 1: a straight face, and expects the country to pretend it
• 1:48
Speaker 1: hasn't seen this bitch-ass movie before. That's how it works.
• 1:53
Speaker 1: The same machine that tells you it's reviewing the matter
• 1:56
Speaker 1: Respecting the process, protecting sensitive information, and acting with great
• 2:00
Speaker 1: care is usually the machine making damn sure the truth
• 2:04
Speaker 1: comes out in pieces so small they can be swept
• 2:07
Speaker 1: off the table. And somehow, we're all expected to still clap.
• 2:12
Speaker 1: We're supposed to believe that delay is nothing more than discipline.
• 2:16
Speaker 1: We're supposed to believe that their secrecy is a sign
• 2:18
Speaker 1: of their maturity. We're supposed to believe resistance is caution.
• 2:23
Speaker 1: We're supposed to believe that the people standing in front
• 2:26
Speaker 1: of the locked door are the only ones qualified to
• 2:28
Speaker 1: hold the key. That's the kind of insult this case
• 2:31
  Speaker 1: has become. It's not just a scandal anymore. It's a
• 2:35
Speaker 1: test of how much open contempt the American people are
• 2:37
Speaker 1: willing to absorb before they finally say enough. Look, the
• 2:41
Speaker 1: Epstein case has always revealed more about the system around
• 2:44
Speaker 1: him than the man himself. Epstein was vile. That part's settled.
• 2:49
Speaker 1: But vile men do not operate for years at that
• 2:51
Speaker 1: level without oxygen. They need lawyers. They need bankers. They
• 2:55
Speaker 1: need social cover. They need institutions willing to look away.
• 2:59
Speaker 1: They need officials willing to move slowly when speed would matter.
• 3:03
Speaker 1: They need silence dressed up as caution and cowardice dressed
• 3:07
Speaker 1: up as professionalism. They need a world where power protects
• 3:10
Speaker 1: power and then acts offended when the rest of us notice.
• 3:14
Speaker 1: And I hate to tell you guys, but that world
• 3:16
Speaker 1: is still very much alive. You can hear it in
• 3:18
Speaker 1: the language. You can see it in the filings. You
• 3:22
Speaker 1: can smell it in every carefully worded excuse that says
• 3:25
Speaker 1: everything except the one the public deserves to hear. The truth.
• 3:29
Speaker 1: Not another curated batch of papers. Not another black-barred insult
• 3:33
Speaker 1: passed off as transparency. Not another official statement praising survivors
• 3:38
Speaker 1: while the machinery that failed them remains untouched. The truth.
• 3:42
Speaker 1: The whole damn truth. The kind of truth that makes
• 3:44
Speaker 1: important people uncomfortable, ruins reputations that deserve ruining, and finally
• 3:49
Speaker 1: treats this case like what it was. A catastrophic institutional
• 3:53
Speaker 1: failure wrapped around the criminal enterprise. But Washington hates that
• 3:58
Speaker 1: kind of truth. It prefers managed truth. It prefers truth
• 4:03
Speaker 1: with bumpers on it. Truth with names missing. Truth with
• 4:06
Speaker 1: dates blurred. Truth with whole sections swallowed by exemptions. Truth
• 4:11
Speaker 1: that arrives years late and already dead on arrival. Truth
• 4:15
Speaker 1: that can be handled, spun, minimized, and filed away. That's
• 4:18
Speaker 1: the kind of truth powerful people can survive. So in
• 4:21
Speaker 1: this episode, I'm not making any promises that the system's
• 4:25
Speaker 1: finally going to fix itself. We're not pretending that another hearing,
• 4:28
Speaker 1: another nomination, another press release, or another official with a
• 4:31
Speaker 1: polished resume is enough to cleanse the rot. We're going
• 4:35
Speaker 1: to start with the obvious, ugly reality that keeps staring
• 4:38
Speaker 1: us in the face. In the Epstein matter, failure has
• 4:41
Speaker 1: not been punished. Stonewalling has not been punished. Institutional arrogance
• 4:46
Speaker 1: has not been punished. And in some cases, the very
• 4:49
Speaker 1: people who should be answering questions are being handed more power.
• 4:53
Speaker 1: Because if the Department of Justice can fumble, bury, delay,
• 4:56
Speaker 1: or restrict the truth in a case like this, then
• 4:59
Speaker 1: what exactly is it for? If the courts have to
• 5:01
Speaker 1: drag basic accountability out of the government one document at
• 5:04
Speaker 1: a time, then who's really being served? If survivors can
• 5:08
Speaker 1: be praised in public and abandoned in practice, then what
• 5:12
Speaker 1: does justice even mean? If the names get big enough,
• 5:15
Speaker 1: the money gets deep enough... and the embarrassment reaches high enough,
• 5:19
Speaker 1: does the law still apply with the same force, or
• 5:22
Speaker 1: does it suddenly become delicate, nuanced, complicated, and slow? Yo,
• 5:28
Speaker 1: we already know the answer, and that's the problem. And
• 5:32
Speaker 1: that's why all of this shit matters. It's not because
• 5:35
Speaker 1: of palace intrigue, not because of partisan scorekeeping, not because
• 5:39
Speaker 1: anyone needs another excuse to scream into the void. It
• 5:42
Speaker 1: matters because the Epstein case has become a mirror, and
• 5:45
Speaker 1: what it reflects is is fucking hideous. It shows us
• 5:49
Speaker 1: a justice system that can be ruthless with the powerless
• 5:52
Speaker 1: and tender with the connected. It shows us a government
• 5:55
Speaker 1: that demands trust after years of making trust impossible. It
• 5:58
Speaker 1: shows us a political class that treats public outrage like weather. Unpleasant. Temporary.
• 6:04
Speaker 1: But survivable. But the survivors? They didn't get to treat
• 6:08
Speaker 1: it like weather. They lived it. They carried it. They
• 6:11
Speaker 1: fought through it while the men in suits made deals.
• 6:14
Speaker 1: issued statements, sealed records, protected institutions, and moved on with
• 6:18
Speaker 1: their lame-ass careers. That's the part that should never be softened.
• 6:23
Speaker 1: Every delay has a human cost. Every hidden document has
• 6:27
Speaker 1: a human cost. Every evasive answer has a human cost.
• 6:31
Speaker 1: Every promotion handed to someone who participated in this culture
• 6:35
Speaker 1: of concealment has a human cost. It tells the people
• 6:39
Speaker 1: who were harmed that the system still knows how to
• 6:41
Speaker 1: protect itself better than it ever protected them And I'm
• 6:45
Speaker 1: not going to dress that shit up. We're not going
• 6:47
Speaker 1: to pretend that's normal. We're not going to pretend that
• 6:50
Speaker 1: that's okay. And we're not going to bow before the
• 6:52
Speaker 1: sacred altar of process when process has been used as
• 6:55
Speaker 1: a shovel to bury accountability. We're not going to confuse
• 6:59
Speaker 1: credentials with character or power with integrity. And we're not
• 7:03
Speaker 1: going to let them turn the Epstein matter into another
• 7:06
Speaker 1: dead file in another locked cabinet while the people responsible
• 7:09
Speaker 1: for guarding the cabinet get rewarded. So in this episode,
• 7:13
Speaker 1: once again, We're going to walk through the door. And
• 7:16
Speaker 1: when we get there, the question is not going to
• 7:18
Speaker 1: be whether Washington is embarrassed. It should be embarrassed. The
• 7:22
Speaker 1: question is not going to be whether powerful people are uncomfortable.
• 7:25
Speaker 1: They should be uncomfortable. The question is not going to
• 7:28
Speaker 1: be whether the Department of Justice likes being challenged. It
• 7:32
Speaker 1: should be challenged. The question is much simpler than all
• 7:35
Speaker 1: of that. Who benefits when the truth stays buried? And
• 7:39
Speaker 1: why do the same kinds of people keep getting promoted
• 7:42
Speaker 1: for helping bury it? There are moments in American public
• 7:46
Speaker 1: life where the corruption is so naked, so insulting, so
• 7:49
Speaker 1: dripping with contempt for the people who are expected to
• 7:52
Speaker 1: swallow it, that polite language becomes part of the problem.
• 7:56
Speaker 1: Todd Blanche and his handling of the Epstein matter is
• 7:59
Speaker 1: one of those moments. I know they want to frame
• 8:01
Speaker 1: it like it's some dry legal disagreement over records or
• 8:04
Speaker 1: redactions or exemptions or deadlines or procedure, but that's the
• 8:08
Speaker 1: costume they want this thing to wear, because costumes are
• 8:11
Speaker 1: useful when the truth underneath is too ugly to look
• 8:14
Speaker 1: at directly. The truth is that the Department of Justice
• 8:17
Speaker 1: has once again positioned itself between the American people and
• 8:21
Speaker 1: the full truth about Jeffrey Epstein. It has once again
• 8:25
Speaker 1: decided that secrecy is easier than accountability. It has once
• 8:30
Speaker 1: again treated survivors like background noise while protecting the machinery
• 8:33
Speaker 1: that felled them. And sitting there, right in the middle
• 8:36
Speaker 1: of it, is Todd Blanche, a man who should be
• 8:38
Speaker 1: explaining himself under oath, not being floated, groomed, or pushed
• 8:42
Speaker 1: toward the top law enforcement job in the country. The
• 8:45
Speaker 1: fact that his name is even attached to the possibility
• 8:48
Speaker 1: of leading the DOJ after this is straight up disgusting.
• 8:52
Speaker 1: It's the kind of thing that makes people look at
• 8:54
Speaker 1: Washington and conclude, correctly, that the system is not broken.
• 8:58
Speaker 1: It's working exactly as designed for the people it was
• 9:01
Speaker 1: designed to protect. So let's stop pretending that this is
• 9:04
Speaker 1: complicated in the way they want us to believe that
• 9:07
Speaker 1: it's complicated. The Epstein case is not hard to understand
• 9:10
Speaker 1: at its core. A wealthy, connected predator abused girls and
• 9:14
Speaker 1: young women for years while building relationships with powerful people,
• 9:18
Speaker 1: influential institutions, financial giants, politicians, royalty, lawyers, academics, and intelligence-adjacent operators.
• 9:27
Speaker 1: He received treatment from the justice system that no normal
• 9:30
Speaker 1: defendant would have ever received in a thousand lifetimes. His
• 9:35
Speaker 1: survivors were hidden from the deal that let him skate.
• 9:38
Speaker 1: His associates were allowed to drift back into high society, boardrooms, universities, banks, foundations,
• 9:44
Speaker 1: and private jets, while the people he harmed were left
• 9:47
Speaker 1: to live with the wreckage. Then, when the public demanded answers,
• 9:52
Speaker 1: the government responded with the same old routine. Delay, redact, resist, litigate,
• 9:57
Speaker 1: pretend to care, repeat. Baby Billy Blanket. didn't invent that playbook,
• 10:01
Speaker 1: but he damn sure appears comfortable running it. Nobody expected
• 10:06
Speaker 1: Blanche to go back in time and undo the original
• 10:08
Speaker 1: non-prosecution agreement right away. Nobody expected him to magically erase
• 10:12
Speaker 1: decades of institutional cowardice and official neglect. But what the
• 10:17
Speaker 1: public had every right to expect... was a clean break
• 10:20
Speaker 1: from the culture of concealment. What survivors had every right
• 10:24
Speaker 1: to expect was a justice department that finally behaved like
• 10:27
Speaker 1: the truth mattered more than protecting reputations. What the courts
• 10:31
Speaker 1: had every right to expect was compliance without gamesmanship. What
• 10:36
Speaker 1: the country had every right to expect was an official
• 10:40
Speaker 1: who understood the Epstein matter is not just another file
• 10:43
  Speaker 1: on a shelf. It is a national wound. It's a
• 10:47
Speaker 1: test of whether the law means anything when the names
• 10:50
Speaker 1: get big enough. Blanche stepped into that test, and instead
• 10:54
Speaker 1: of swinging a hammer through the wall of secrecy, this
• 10:57
Speaker 1: bitch stood guard at the damn door. And then they
• 11:01
Speaker 1: have the nerve to talk about him as Attorney General? Yo,
• 11:04
Speaker 1: that's the part that really gets me. That's the part
• 11:06
Speaker 1: that makes this feel less like government and more like
• 11:08
Speaker 1: a sick joke told by people who know there will
• 11:11
Speaker 1: be no consequences. In a sane country, the person overseeing
• 11:16
Speaker 1: another round of Epstein stonewalling would be treated as radioactive.
• 11:21
Speaker 1: In a sane country, senators would be demanding explanations before
• 11:24
Speaker 1: anyone whispered the word promotion. In a sane country, the
• 11:28
Speaker 1: DOJ would be forced to account for every withheld record,
• 11:33
Speaker 1: every missed deadline, every legal excuse, every redaction, every page
• 11:37
Speaker 1: kept from the public, and every decision maker involved in
• 11:41
Speaker 1: keeping it that way. But this is Washington. So failures
• 11:45
Speaker 1: get laundered into experience, contempt gets repackaged as seriousness, obstruction
• 11:51
Speaker 1: gets dressed up as caution, and the man who should
• 11:54
Speaker 1: be answering for this disgrace gets discussed like he's the
• 11:57
Speaker 1: responsible adult in the room. Yo, there is nothing responsible
• 12:02
Speaker 1: about it. There is nothing honorable about it. There is
• 12:05
Speaker 1: nothing that resembles public service in the continued refusal to
• 12:09
Speaker 1: give the American people a full accounting of what happened
• 12:12
Speaker 1: around Jeffrey Epstein. The government has had decades to get
• 12:16
Speaker 1: this right. Decades. It has had administrations of both parties,
• 12:21
Speaker 1: attorney generals of every flavor, prosecutors with every credential, inspector generals,
• 12:27
Speaker 1: congressional committees, federal judges, civil lawsuits, settlements, subpoenas, depositions, and
• 12:33
Speaker 1: endless public pressure. And still, somehow, the truth remains behind glass. Somehow,
• 12:41
Speaker 1: every road leads back to the same locked doors. Somehow
• 12:44
Speaker 1: the people asking questions are treated like the problem. Somehow
• 12:48
Speaker 1: the survivors are thanked for their courage, while the institutions
• 12:51
Speaker 1: that failed them continue operating like nothing happened. And Blanche
• 12:55
Speaker 1: owns all of it now. And the saddest part is
• 12:58
Speaker 1: how predictable it all is. I mean, you could have
• 13:00
Speaker 1: set your watch by it. Every time the Epstein matter
• 13:04
Speaker 1: heats up, the official class reaches for the same moldy excuses.
• 13:08
Speaker 1: They tell us they have to protect privacy. They tell
• 13:10
Speaker 1: us they have to protect investigations. They tell us that
• 13:14
Speaker 1: they have to protect the process. They tell us they
• 13:17
Speaker 1: have to protect sensitive information. They tell us they have
• 13:20
Speaker 1: to move carefully. Carefully, carefully, carefully. Funny how careful they
• 13:26
Speaker 1: become when the people who might be embarrassed are rich, connected, famous, powerful,
• 13:31
Speaker 1: or useful. Funny how the machinery of justice can move
• 13:34
Speaker 1: like a freight train when it's crushing some nobody from nowhere,
• 13:38
Speaker 1: but it turns into a delicate porcelain figure The Second
• 13:41
Speaker 1: Epstein's Network comes into view. And spare us the sanctimonious
• 13:45
Speaker 1: lectures about victim privacy as a blanket excuse for your secrecy.
• 13:49
Speaker 1: Everyone with a brain knows survivors deserve protection. Everyone serious
• 13:54
Speaker 1: understands that names, personal details, medical information, addresses, private trauma,
• 13:59
Speaker 1: and identifying facts should not be thrown into the street.
• 14:03
Speaker 1: That's not what people are demanding. What people are demanding
• 14:06
Speaker 1: is survivor protection stop being used as a shield for
• 14:09
Speaker 1: powerful adults. There is a world of difference between protecting
• 14:14
Speaker 1: victims and protecting the people who enabled, ignored, financed, socialized with, defended, rehabilitated,
• 14:21
Speaker 1: or benefited from Epstein. The DOJ knows that difference. Todd
• 14:25
Speaker 1: Blanche knows that difference. The public certainly knows that difference.
• 14:30
Speaker 1: So when they blur the line, people are right to
• 14:32
Speaker 1: get angry. Because the blur is where the cover-up lives.
• 14:35
Speaker 1: Alright folks, we're going to wrap up episode 1 right here.
• 14:38
Speaker 1: And in the next episode, we're going to pick up
• 14:39
Speaker 1: where we left off. and wrap this bad boy up.
• 14:43
Speaker 1: All the information that goes with this episode can be
• 14:45
Speaker 1: found in the description box.
