- 0:09Speaker 1: Inside the Birds is back. What's going on? Everybody? It's
- 0:15Jeff Moser out of KAPANI Inside the Birds. It's an
- 0:18exciting time. The Cleveland Browns are in Philadelphia. We got
- 0:21joint practices starting today. The Eagles and the Browns will
- 0:25take to the Novacare Complex the third time in the
- 0:28last five years. I believe these teams have done that.
- 0:30So that's pretty cool.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Uh.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And then Adamy, as you know, two days of joint practices,
- 0:35day off, and then they'll play the Saturday mattin A.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Reporters love it. It's great, but it means, you know,
- 0:43can't it just be at night?
- 0:44Speaker 1: Can I?
- 0:44Speaker 2: No?
- 0:44Speaker 1: No, no, you had it right the first time. Report.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Yeah, you know. It's funny because we did a really
- 0:52cool last Thursday. We did a for Tier three only
- 0:56Patreon members. It was awesome. We had a really good crowd,
- 0:59very live, got in everyone, everybody got the constant questions in.
- 1:03It was really fun.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:05Speaker 3: I if I could swing, and I'm probably gonna do it.
- 1:07I had such a good time. I didn't know what
- 1:08to expect. I didn't know if anyone would show up.
- 1:11I don't know if any more people.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Probably more people talking to you than they were watching
- 1:15the game at that point.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah's second half. Yeah, well it's second half,
- 1:18but that one will probably be a quarter of three,
- 1:21I think if we do it, because it's about an
- 1:22hour and a half. You know, first half is like
- 1:24an hour and a half. Okay, but anyway, so yeah, yeah,
- 1:27I love. It's third time in four years. They actually
- 1:29the first one was twenty two, then did twenty three,
- 1:32not last year, and then this year is a three
- 1:34and four years. Wow, that's I don't know while they're
- 1:36playing them, that's why they were doing it. But uh.
- 1:39The first one was in Berea, Ohio at the Browns Complex.
- 1:42I with the Eagles kick the shit out of them.
- 1:43Exchuse my language, but I was there and I was like, wow,
- 1:47This former head coach I ran into, who was on
- 1:49a training camp touring, said the Eagles are super Bowl team,
- 1:52Like really yeah? And he he went through the roster
- 1:56with me. I'm like okay, and he goes, they're doing
- 1:58a great job with hertze he thought hurts his mechanics.
- 2:01He said they were better than I recall. I'm like okay.
- 2:04And now you could also say how good of the
- 2:06Browns roster was when they Egles went against him, but
- 2:09that was prophetic. That was because Sky was right. They
- 2:11had a really good roster. And we'll see I look
- 2:14for I know you're going so these joint practice or
- 2:17something else, Man that they're usually good. You and I
- 2:21were at the Miami one where it was the sweat box.
- 2:23But that was fun seeing Tyree come run run the
- 2:26corners ragged, you know, for the Eagles. And then when
- 2:31I saw Tyreek Hill it was a Bucks Dolphins. Won't
- 2:33also do the same thing with the Bucks corners, Jamale Dean,
- 2:36I forget that was I think it was the same,
- 2:37probably the same year. But they're great and well we'll
- 2:41before we get out of here, well we'll break down
- 2:43exactly what happens. They're very important, by the way, and
- 2:46you get great work. And by the way, don't forget
- 2:48about who the Eagles saul in twenty seventeen, one Jay Jai,
- 2:52who they would trade for.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Oh yes, yeah, they're definitely worth keeping an eye on. Wait,
- 2:57the year they traded for Gernard Avery. Was that also
- 2:59a year that they had practiced against the Browns? I no,
- 3:05I think it was the was the what was the
- 3:07first year they did the practice in Brea.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Twenty two was the one I was at. I thought
- 3:12that was the last one. You might do you think
- 3:13is it really four out of five years?
- 3:16Speaker 1: It's either no, I think it's three out of five years.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, twenty two was the first one. This is
- 3:20twenty five.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Twenty two was the first one. Then no, because Avery,
- 3:25that was he was already he was on nineteen.
- 3:28Speaker 3: Okay, and boy, Avery, what a name from the past.
- 3:31He really needed to be a thirty four outside linebacker
- 3:34or an odd man front have him stand up. But yeah,
- 3:39so yeah, I'm looking forward to it and should doors standers?
- 3:41Oh boy, this is this is good because you know
- 3:44that the media naturally is obsessed talk shows, National Talks
- 3:47was obsessed with this guy.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Yeah, yep. The circus is in town, the Cleveland Round
- 3:53all right, So if you do this chat and in general,
- 3:56I know there's gonna be a live stream for our
- 3:57Patreon members. That's Patreon dot calm slash inside the Birds

- 4:06sometimes more than the night before. Add free no commercials,

- 4:15Speaker 3: Yep, getch you right, Patreon dot, complish, side the birds, discord,
- 4:19you name it. It's good asking you. That's coming up.
- 4:24The chalk talk with the last one with John D.
- 4:26Flippa hole he did oh T A O T A
- 4:29preparation and what to expect. Yep, he did a training
- 4:33camp and then the next I gotta get him again
- 4:35to break down what the end of training camp? How
- 4:39you decide what's really what like? How do you how
- 4:43do you do you tell you what when you you
- 4:44sit down with the general manager? How do you decide
- 4:47what the roster's going to look like? Because you're gonna
- 4:49have to say, it's not your call to GM's call.
- 4:51But how does talks go? I'm very curious. I know
- 4:54we asked John that before. That's coming on.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll get up with them all right. Also up
- 4:59on the platforms, Sam Finkle did a great job on
- 5:01an inside the data on Jacoreyan Bennett. Now you know,
- 5:05we give you all the intel that you need on
- 5:08Jacorean Bennett. You know he's clearly in the mix for
- 5:10the starting job. He'll get into the mix, you would imagine,
- 5:13even more so as the weeks go on here. But
- 5:16Sam does a great job of giving you the analytics
- 5:18and the metrics and things like EPA and completion percentage
- 5:22against him over expectation, things like that. They're really detailed stuff.
- 5:27So that's out on both the mainstream platform and YouTube channel.
- 5:30Check it out. Even a little bit of a note
- 5:32at the end on Darius Cooper, the training camp darling
- 5:36of this year, who I think is a little bit
- 5:37more than just your your one year darling or one
- 5:40summer darling kind of player.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Agree. Yeah, he's been a great story and they're doing
- 5:44everything we can to have a reason or two to
- 5:47keep him on the team, whether it's kickoff returns and
- 5:49you show the ability to play inside or outset. What
- 5:51a fine Charlton State, Harlton State, All right?
- 5:55Speaker 1: Can you name the mascot? Can you name it?
- 5:57Speaker 3: You know it's funny. I was looking up I was
- 6:00trying to find their hashtag. Uh huh, I know that
- 6:05Jaloks Hunt. I knew that. I know that. I can't
- 6:07think of the because we we put hashtags, you know,
- 6:11on the for for our content, and I had to
- 6:15look it up for it's like the standard is their
- 6:19hashtag one of them for Jukes Hunt the Houston Christian.
- 6:22But I couldn't find it. For Charlton State, I don't
- 6:24know what it is.
- 6:25Speaker 1: I know their mascot is the Texan Rider little Cowboy,
- 6:30because you know the Technis. But yeah, the Texans. That's
- 6:33because they're the Texans, Taunton State Texans.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Oh there, the Technics. Okay, cool, yeah, yeah, all.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Right, let's get into the big news here. The big
- 6:40news obviously landon Dickerson. He went down. You were there
- 6:43Sunday nights. It did not look good, limped off the field,
- 6:46cart it back to the locker room, and he's gonna
- 6:49have to have another procedure at him. Now. The optimist,
- 6:54the glass half full guy, looks at this and says,
- 6:56all right, well it it looks fairly minor compared to
- 6:59what I could have been. I know that there's a
- 7:02hope that he'll be back by the season opener. It's
- 7:04it is. It's miniscus related. We'll get into that in
- 7:07a second. And I wrote this for Philly Voice, Adam,
- 7:10and I really firmly believe it. I think you're in
- 7:12this camp too. Is that you can call this a
- 7:14minor procedure, and it is, But when you have had
- 7:17when you're having a minor procedure. It's just a few
- 7:18months after you had a procedure already in February, which
- 7:22follows the four procedures that you had in college. That's
- 7:27a lot of wear and tear. It's all in the
- 7:29same area, the knees and the ankles or the what
- 7:31he has had procedures on, and every time he go
- 7:34under the knife, it's a little more wear and tear.
- 7:37And I know he's young. He's only twenty seven, I think,
- 7:40and three straight Pro Bowls and he's great. There's listen
- 7:43lovelanded Dickerson as a player, he's really good. But it's
- 7:47hard to see this guy being able to play like
- 7:49five to ten more years like some of the Iron
- 7:51Man And they're gonna need a succession plan by next
- 7:55year as far as the draft or or trademark.
- 7:58Speaker 3: But I wouldn't go that far. But I I know
- 8:00where you're going, and I agree in that they need
- 8:02a backup.
- 8:04Speaker 1: I know, I didn't mean like a starter. I mean
- 8:06they have to have a guy who can get in there.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Jack Chrisco type, Jack Driscoll type. Uh. Someone brought that
- 8:10up on the YouTube comments and I'm doing a little research.
- 8:15Apparently he had a bad ankle injury. It was legit.
- 8:17You know, when he went put on ir like the seventh,
- 8:19people like, oh here we go. They don't want to
- 8:20he's not going to the playoff roster. So he was
- 8:22a fake injury. No, it was that fake injury. He
- 8:25acted that bad ankle injury. So we'll see. But that's
- 8:28the kind of guy who was a fourth rounder guard
- 8:32right tackle. That's well they really need is a guard
- 8:36center or because we'll see about Drew Kennell, but someone is.
- 8:40You know here, you gotta be with Eagles. You better
- 8:43be able to play more than one position on the
- 8:44offensive line. That's just the way it is, and that's
- 8:46a smart way to do it. You're absolutely right, you're
- 8:48you and I think of the same way. Unfortunately, Kenyan
- 8:51Green with his shoulder problem and he he wasn't he
- 8:54was running mostly on the third a little bit on
- 8:56the second team anyway, So they got a problem. Man.
- 8:59Because let's let's let's break this down right. So right
- 9:03now it's Brett toaf. I know that this has been
- 9:07a stout special. He believes in him. He's got this
- 9:10great length. He's been on off the roster, but he's
- 9:14not developed at any one position. You know, he's been crosstrained.
- 9:17He literally played I think every position. I didn't say, well,
- 9:20but every position. Okay, so they clearly like him that
- 9:24if Stout says I think he can do this, and
- 9:26you got to trust the coach, he's great. But let's
- 9:29face it, this guy's not a starting level player. If
- 9:32Dickerson's not ready, And we'll explain you a little bit
- 9:34more in depth what Dickerson's dealing with. I've dealt with
- 9:38this meniscus trim situation, reporting on it, delving on it,
- 9:42and we'll get in that minute. I got a really
- 9:43good nugget, just one guy who actually beat it way
- 9:46before the timeline of the real repair. The repair. But
- 9:50we'll give you the difference between the two and so
- 9:52people learn something. But Brett Toath is not a starring
- 9:55level player, right, That's just the bottom line. He didn't
- 9:59show what he is. So the question is, as I
- 10:02throw it back to you, is Darren Cannard that guy?
- 10:04I know you had some good information on him last year.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean part of me is a little surprised
- 10:09that Matt Pryor isn't first up at Left Guard. I mean,
- 10:12I know they like, yeah, right and right tackle, not yet,
- 10:15you're right. But that's my point is that I know
- 10:17that there's time, but why are we? Why is the
- 10:20song and dance of Brett Toath? And I don't mean
- 10:22to be what's the word I'm condescending about that. I
- 10:26think he's been a nice star. I think it's great
- 10:28that he's been able to stick around and be a
- 10:30practice squad, this guy who probably shouldn't play in the NFL.
- 10:34He's even, you know, played in a couple of games.
- 10:36But I don't understand the song and dance when there
- 10:38are guys who are more experienced, who are better, who
- 10:41have played the position prior being one. And then we'll
- 10:44see and yeah, Darren Canard, it's interesting when the Eagles
- 10:47brought him over from the Chiefs practice squad, they brought
- 10:51him over as a guard or right guard, because the
- 10:55Chiefs overdrafted him as a tackle, wound up getting cut
- 10:58after one or two years, and he spent a year
- 11:00on their practice squad at guard. All right, the Chiefs
- 11:03were already looking him at guard. Eagles knew that. They
- 11:06brought him in at guard as well, and you saw
- 11:08they liked him. They played him a lot but as
- 11:10soon as Makai Beckden took over at guard when Stein
- 11:15got hurt and won the job, and then they had
- 11:17Steen as the backup, they moved Canard back to tackle
- 11:21because that's where they needed their number two guy. They
- 11:24had Fred Johnson as the swing tackle. And of course,
- 11:26you know, Cannard didn't make the fifty three. He was
- 11:28on the practice squad. By my point is he was
- 11:31he's been cross trained, but they brought him in as
- 11:33a guard. They liked him there, moved him to tackle
- 11:36when they had depth of guard, and now it looks
- 11:38like he's gonna get a chance to go back to
- 11:40right guard and you know, we'll see or right, yeah,
- 11:45they'll cross train him.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Yeah he got got snaps at left guard on Tuesday,
- 11:51but right, yeah, he's got he's got good. But he
- 11:55was the guy who played every snaper. Didn't he start
- 11:57and play every step in the preseason? Did he listen?
- 11:59Speaker 1: Uh? In some games? I don't think he played every
- 12:02single snap of every game.
- 12:03Speaker 3: But game okay, yeah, okay, first two okay, whatever it was.
- 12:07It was shocking. We were like that was a funny story.
- 12:09But yeah, they like him the obviously. Yeah he yeah,
- 12:14he he his his practice squad. Yeah, they he actually
- 12:18has been on the roster. Wait did he make it
- 12:20last year?
- 12:22Speaker 1: He No, he made the Uh he may have made
- 12:24the initial I forget, but I think he was on
- 12:25the practice squad for most of the year. I don't
- 12:29think he was.
- 12:30Speaker 3: I think he was. Actually I think he was.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Oh, no, you're right, you're right.
- 12:32Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 12:34Speaker 1: He was fifty three but inactive for most of the game.
- 12:37Speaker 3: Yeah, he wouldn't dress, but yeah, he was on it. So, yeah,
- 12:40you're right. They clearly like him. Yeah, they're now. It's
- 12:43not easy. So I talked an offensive line coach about
- 12:45this this week. He said, it's nothing like you think.
- 12:50You think, oh, it's just a guards in to your spot,
- 12:52but it's it's who you have on the opposite side.
- 12:57It's it's like, if you're a right guard, you've got
- 12:59this on the right tackle. If you're moved to left guard,
- 13:02you've got the left tackle and center. The footwork's a
- 13:05little different, hand user just it's mentally different. It's not easy,
- 13:09and quite frankly, this really should have been done in
- 13:12the off season. Maybe some of the people were there
- 13:15the reporter saw it. I don't I don't remember that
- 13:17in the off season, because I know they have time now,
- 13:20but you'd rather have cross trained in the spring because
- 13:23and you know, we never really talked about this, because
- 13:26it'sund like you're expecting Dickerson to get hurt. And clearly
- 13:29they were expecting Kenyan Green, for shoulder bothered him to
- 13:33be a factor and he was not. So here we
- 13:35are now, it's Brett Toath, it's Canard, that's in Matt Prior.
- 13:41They're going to have to do this. They have to
- 13:43cross train him because ken O Lamb could play left
- 13:45or right tackle. Yeah, not Prior, as he said, as
- 13:47we move along here, plenty of starting experience, but he's
- 13:50never started a game at left guard, never had. I
- 13:52don't even know if he's even played it before.
- 13:54Speaker 1: All right, And by the way, I think the more
- 13:56logical thing to do, just to keep people comfortable would
- 13:59actually be to play Tyler Steen at left guard, because
- 14:02Steen played a lot of left guard, well not a lot,
- 14:04but when he played last year he wound up going
- 14:07into left guard quite a bit. And then you can
- 14:09play Canard and or Prior on the right side, where
- 14:13they have either trained at right guard or right tackle.
- 14:15So from a comfortability. I think that makes the most sense.
- 14:19But to get back to your point, I just wonder
- 14:21how much longer the Brett Toath experiment is going to
- 14:25go on, and maybe if there's something that only Stalutland
- 14:28sees and you're right, you give the guy the benefit
- 14:31of the doubt. He's he's been incredible, rarely wrong. But
- 14:35it's one thing like to say McKay Beckton can do it,
- 14:38when McKay Beckton was a once a great tackle in
- 14:41college and had a lot of experience. Yeah, I'm talking
- 14:45about a guy, and Brett Toath has been here. He's
- 14:47been around the league now for seven years. I mean
- 14:49Staltlin's seen plenty of him, and he never really makes
- 14:52that it has ever since earlier in his career, hasn't
- 14:54really made the team. So that's where I'm wondering.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Like, I'm twenty nineteen, this.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Is in season. Yeah, I get credit for the Cardinals
- 15:05for one year.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Yeah, oh boy, they were pissed when the Cardinals claimed
- 15:08that they were shocked. Yeah, he's been hard, he missed,
- 15:11He's missed a lot of time. I give this guy credit.
- 15:14He's now twenty eight years old. Really, he's the fact
- 15:18that he's on the roster. Look, there's a saying in
- 15:20the National Football like, if you're on the roster, we
- 15:22believe you could start at some point. He hadn't shown that,
- 15:24but I'm just that's the way the clubs think. Right,
- 15:27We'll see what happens.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so it's it's it'll be very interesting to
- 15:32watch at some point if if there's a changing of
- 15:35the guard, right and it is Kenari or Pryor, I'm
- 15:38going to go back and say, well, what was so
- 15:39important about that first practice that you needed to play
- 15:42Brett Toth there instead of getting I just maybe won't
- 15:46understand it. But I don't know.
- 15:48Speaker 3: You know, what's not my job done? Right? I agree?
- 15:52But we got today and tomorrow. Today is a heavier practice,
- 15:56Thursday's light walk through, Saturday, Friday, Saturday, the games. We'll
- 15:59see what stouts got up asleep. But just on the meniscus,
- 16:03understand something. The trim is almost it's textbook. It's summer
- 16:08in the range of two to four weeks a trim.
- 16:11As they snip a piece off, you gotta feel better,
- 16:16and I know you you had a was it Herman
- 16:19who came back to incredibly Queah He missed one game.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Then they had the bye week, and then the following
- 16:28week I think they played like a Monday or something.
- 16:30I give him an extra day something like that, and
- 16:33he played that week. So it was really like from
- 16:35snip the game, it was like three weeks something like that.
- 16:38But he barely missed any time. I think he missed
- 16:40that one game.
- 16:41Speaker 3: So the repair is actually full fledge meniscus surgery, and
- 16:47when that happens, it's generally four to six months. Adrian
- 16:50Peterson is the only player that I in twenty seven
- 16:53years of cover this business, he only beat. He just
- 16:56beat the timeline. Okay, he had surgery and whatever year
- 17:00it was, in September, he's back in the summer. I
- 17:02couldn't believe it. Yeah he was. It's like unheard of.
- 17:08Speaker 1: And that was that was a full tear.
- 17:10Speaker 3: Yeah. The repair, it's called the repair. It's treading versus repair.
- 17:15I learned this the hard way many years ago of
- 17:17trying to figure that one out and talk to so
- 17:19many doctors and trainers. They they don't agree on everything,
- 17:22but they'll give you the timeline of typical that not
- 17:24every needs the same. Where it's ad is, there's the
- 17:29other associated issues potentially with the MEE and you mentioned
- 17:33to start the show. Both acls have been repaired head
- 17:37the surgery. We don't know what was for earlier this year.
- 17:40Dickerson after the season, after the super Bowl game, credit
- 17:42for playing unbelievable this guy. But you know he turns
- 17:45twenty seven and September thirtieth, it's been through a lot.
- 17:49We'll see what exactly he'll be back. But see, here's
- 17:52the one thing I do worry about. Let's say three
- 17:56weeks to night, I goes. You know I'm playing. I'm good,
- 17:58but they have to judge which is it. Because it's
- 18:02a long season. I'll see this again. This could be
- 18:04a super Bowl team if that other corner spot could
- 18:07be not embarrassing, it could be surceable. This team could
- 18:12make another run because the offense should be phenomenal if
- 18:15everybody's healthy. But if you don't have to, if Dickerson
- 18:19is not right, don't play him. You got a long season.
- 18:21There's no there's no there's no to me, there's no
- 18:25reason unless he's himself, don't do it.
- 18:28Speaker 2: Sky Motor Cars and West guess there's a different building dealers,
- 18:31and all the takes is one look at their highline
- 18:33pre owned vehicles and people all over the country what
- 18:36the owner of Bridge Gilder make sure you don't spend
- 18:38the time with your money before you purchase the car.
- 18:41Sky Motor Cars allows you to make all the decisions
- 18:44regarding your next vehicle. At sky Motor Cars, you never
- 18:47have to spend more than necessary. There's a Skymotorcars dot com.
- 18:51Today are called six ten, nine to one, eight seven five.
- 18:58Speaker 1: All right on the other side of the ball, yes,
- 19:01Eagles are pretty thin in another spot on the interior
- 19:03into your defensive line. I mean, you know, obviously the
- 19:06tradon Thomas Booker, Gabe Hall is hurt. You know, they've
- 19:10got their their starters are fine with a Joemo and
- 19:13with Jordan Davis and with Jalen Carter, but it's behind them,
- 19:17Adam and those are the guys that are gonna play
- 19:18mostly the behind guy, the reserve guys. They're they're they're
- 19:22pretty thin here. And you know, I know they made
- 19:25a move on Tuesday, right they signed a defensive tackle,
- 19:30so that adds to the bunch they've got. But it's
- 19:32kind of funny you watch the if you remember the
- 19:34Bengals game, because Jordan Davis is not playing. They're in
- 19:37their five man front. I'm like, oh, that looks like
- 19:39Joe Evans out there right, Uh, you know, first team
- 19:43nos tackle. And then Jacob Sykes is in just a
- 19:45little bit later. But obviously Hall, the Hall injury is
- 19:49not great. And Byron Young was just coming back too.
- 19:52He's rounding in the form. It would nice to be
- 19:54at both those guys be healthy at the same time.
- 19:56Speaker 3: We'll see what Young does. He did light work on Tuesday.
- 19:59So yeah, Justin Rogers is the guy they signed. So
- 20:01he was a seventh rounder for Dallas who who was
- 20:06on He got cut last year. He was drafted in
- 20:09seven round. Last year. He was on and off the
- 20:10roster and then to the Bengals practice squad and then
- 20:14Seattle signed him and they cut him. Eagles just brought him. Man,
- 20:18they need a camp body. We'll see where it goes.
- 20:20Guy was drafted, so he's got some talent. We'll see
- 20:22where it goes. Uh, there they boy. And a little
- 20:26inside football thing when you see it like I was
- 20:28when I was at the practice Sunday night. When you
- 20:31see a player hold his arm, it's almost always his
- 20:36shoulder m hm.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Right, And.
- 20:40Speaker 3: I'm like, this has got to be a shoulder. We'll
- 20:42see if they put injury pat report out and they
- 20:43did on Tuesday and it was his shoulder, I have
- 20:45no idea how long he's gonna be out or we'll
- 20:47see what he does and doesn't do over the next week.
- 20:50That's bad because you want to tell paper thin. So
- 20:52they made you made the They made the trade, as
- 20:55you mentioned, they traded Thomas Booker the Raiders. I don't
- 20:58think that trade would have got done for Bennett without
- 21:00I'm getting detackle. They had to because they were You
- 21:02can think that he goes depth now is bad. The
- 21:04Raiders had nothing if they cut Wilkins. Right So, right now,
- 21:09it's the three guys and their five man front O
- 21:11Jomo Davison, Carter Ty, Robinson, barr Young who just got back,
- 21:17Gable who's hurt, Psykes, Rogers, and Evans. They have enough
- 21:22bodies to put out there for practices. But man, if
- 21:26this is the regular season, I know we're not there yet.
- 21:28I'm just pointing it out. Barr Young has played it
- 21:31I think one NFL game, to Robinson's never played in one.
- 21:34Gaye Hole has never played in one. These other guys
- 21:36are just street free agents, undrected free agents other than Rogers.
- 21:41You can't. You just cannot afford another guy to get hurt.
- 21:43And I know that they like going young. I get it.
- 21:47They proved themselves right last year. But it's all about
- 21:50death and rotations. You got to have enough guys.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Yeah, they went from just twelve years, seven years seven
- 21:56two years ago they kept seven dt something crazy.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Yeah, traded Street. That was actually smart by Howie, as
- 22:02much as other teams made fun of him, because I
- 22:04remember we were getting some comments like what is he
- 22:06doing the method to his madness? Man, But I'll say
- 22:09this before we move on to the corner and how
- 22:12he putted it out just the wanted people to know
- 22:15they have thirteen draft picks. He said it in the
- 22:16post draft one of the post press conferences. They have
- 22:20thirteen draft picks for next year, folks. Yeah, we pointed
- 22:23out a thousand times since we started the show in
- 22:25twenty eighteen. Ronald Darby, CJ. Garda Johnson, other players late.
- 22:32He'll do it. He's someone who used to work for
- 22:34him and told me he had a great line that
- 22:37goes one of the things he loved about Hollie. He
- 22:39doesn't give a bleep. He's fearless. If they need to
- 22:41do something, he's doing it. So he's not afraid like
- 22:45these other gms having draft picks, like what are they for?
- 22:49Use him his currency? Trade them, go get somebody.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Not picking thirteen players, you know that exactly.
- 22:54Speaker 3: It ain't happening. And unfortunately the year that they had ten,
- 22:58it didn't go very well.
- 22:59Speaker 1: No, I did not. Anyway, Mantre Jimps Johnson started to
- 23:03get a little work on Tuesday in the Hampshire. Hopefully
- 23:05he'll be able to make it to these joint practices.
- 23:08We'll see. It will be nice, just because I thought
- 23:10he was having a nice little camp. He's one of
- 23:13those guys we thought might and I want to see
- 23:15that continue. So we'll see there. And then the secondary
- 23:18mccouba got back and its first team Adam, you know
- 23:21that they were I give him a lot of credit.
- 23:23He made it back to that practice before the Bengals
- 23:26game was on Tuesday. It was a lighter session. He
- 23:29was limited, but he was out there doing work in
- 23:32team and seven on seven drills. He was giving it
- 23:34his best and so it's good to see him, you know,
- 23:37now be able to he didn't play in the game.
- 23:38I think I was smart. They withheld him to make
- 23:41sure he's fully healthy for this week, and he's one
- 23:43of the guys that's really big week going up against
- 23:46the Browns and the joint practice.
- 23:48Speaker 3: It is because they need to know by the end
- 23:51of August is this guy gonna start this year? Because
- 23:54if he's starting, they don't need to do on any
- 23:55good safety. But if he's not ready, City Brown, I
- 23:59know Vic Fandrews said he's improved. There are questions around
- 24:02the league. Is this guy really a good fit? Is
- 24:05he just a box safety? I know, does he have
- 24:07enough versatility?
- 24:08Speaker 2: There?
- 24:08Speaker 3: There are questions with him about the real fit. But
- 24:12mccoob was, you don't draft a guy not to be
- 24:14a starter in the second round. That's the way it is, right,
- 24:16It's like in front of us, is like not even
- 24:18an arguable point. We draft the guys in the second round.
- 24:20If he's ready to start it that's the way it is.
- 24:22So if they don't know that he's starting, then they
- 24:25got an issue, Like then it becomes his Citney Brown ready.
- 24:28If not, that's where how he can make a trade
- 24:30or some or dare I say Justin Evan, Justin Simmons.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Who or who Justin Evans? Oh boy, that would have
- 24:36been just just Simms.
- 24:37Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I know, I know, I'm just kidding Justin
- 24:39oh Man. Oh god, don't remember. Was that twenty twenty
- 24:44twenty years ago?
- 24:45Speaker 1: Twenty three?
- 24:46Speaker 3: It was?
- 24:46Speaker 1: It was the collapse of twenty twenty three.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Still he got hurired.
- 24:51Speaker 1: You know, they had buyer that Edmunds, Justin Evans had
- 24:55very slowest.
- 24:56Speaker 3: People were so mad at us. We said, Arrell into
- 25:00the below average Statey we got yelled at the first
- 25:02round pick. What are you talking about? Okay?
- 25:04Speaker 1: Yeah, said the same thing about the linebacker last year.
- 25:07So it got the same response.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Oh, definitely why people love to live out of the past.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Man, some people don't learn, you know. That's all right,
- 25:17I'm gonna ask you this though. Okay, yes, mcoper, mccooper.
- 25:21They need to know if he's gonna be the starter.
- 25:22And in the the realm of starter, it means you're
- 25:25playing the most snaps, You're you're really the starter in
- 25:28the Nickel package is their primary package. But are you
- 25:31getting in the same sense that when the season starts,
- 25:34when they're in a five man front, it's gonna be
- 25:35Cooper to Gene next to reblanket ship, which, by the way, Yeah.
- 25:39Speaker 3: But but I'm just gonna I'm just gonna throw this
- 25:42out there, Okay, Greg co Saul must have mentioned twenty
- 25:45times to me. Remember mccoop played nickel and Clemson. He
- 25:48was really good at it. Yeah, so let's just see
- 25:52what happens here. I'm not Vic. Like, we know that
- 25:56they drafted the Gene as a corner. We get that.
- 25:58But you're allowed to change your mind if you if
- 26:00you think that you know Vic with Vic. Once Vic
- 26:03does like he's gotta he's gotta let everyone know at
- 26:05the front office, including the Gruermal manager they had coach
- 26:07a That's what I'm thinking. But you're not going to
- 26:10overrule Vic. And if he thinks if he's not happy
- 26:15with Makouba, or he doesn't think he's ready yet, an
- 26:19he thinks that Coop should be a safety this season
- 26:22more than just base, then that's happening.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Yeah. And by the way, to your point, last year,
- 26:27at this time, QUINNYA. Mitchell was still a slot nickel cornerback.
- 26:31He was he was the slot corner. He was playing nickel.
- 26:34I really he opened it can't remember. It wasn't until
- 26:38Cooper came back because you had Isaiah Rodgers versus Kielle
- 26:44Ringo at one spot, and then it just became Isaiah
- 26:46Rodgers and you had Darius Lay at the other. And
- 26:48it wasn't until mid camp when Cooper de Gene was
- 26:52ready to come back, did they move QUINNYA Mitchell outside.
- 26:55So anything, something could happen this week. Right to your
- 26:58point where all of a sudden, Cuba, who is not
- 27:00repped at all at Nickel, maybe he's playing Nickel and
- 27:03you're seeing Coopa's safety. I doubt it, but I'm just
- 27:06saying to your point, I.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Never know that you got. I'm just telling you it's
- 27:11always about what's best for the football team and put
- 27:14your best leven out there. I know it's clich ish,
- 27:16but Jean's one of the best players on the football team, right.
- 27:20But Cuba could wind up being really, really good. Like
- 27:22you talked to, I know you have the same response
- 27:24from NFL people. Everybody likes Macouba. They're worried about the frame.
- 27:28We know he's put weight on, but that doesn't cure
- 27:31You don't become like mister Olympia because you put ten
- 27:34pounds of munths on weight. That doesn't make you stay
- 27:37any healthier or guarantee it. But the kids really gifted,
- 27:42so we'll see. I've kind of learned a lot from
- 27:46this VIC experiences, which I've loved. By the way, I
- 27:48just think he's what you're trying to warn people. These
- 27:51idiots are saying, well, like I never number one defense,
- 27:53how good he could be. It's dumbest thing I've ever heard.
- 27:56Be careful social media, man, people say stupid shit on there,
- 28:00not just so I don't. That's why I don't say
- 28:01I just put my information. I don't say anything because
- 28:04you can't help stup people who don't get it. They
- 28:08see someone else say something, they think these people are smart.
- 28:11Just be careful, man, be careful.
- 28:13Speaker 1: For the largest echo chamber.
- 28:15Speaker 3: Oh. I liked it actually in the beginning, and then
- 28:18it became so confrontational and toxic and it stopped becoming
- 28:24a learned helping people learn the game. That's why we
- 28:26created this this platform eight years ago, bringing on our
- 28:30people to help people become smarter. Because man, when you
- 28:32say Vic fangerw is not that good of a defense coordinator?
- 28:35What are you looking at? If it just bothers me
- 28:38when people say stuff like that and they're not held accountable,
- 28:42like you can't you could, like, but give me facts like, oh,
- 28:48he's never been good to My favorite one was he's
- 28:49never been good without good players.
- 28:51Speaker 1: Really amazing, right, what if what did not Sirianni.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Say, send me a good coach with that good players?
- 28:58Speaker 1: I love what he said that without the greatness of others.
- 29:01Speaker 3: You know, no, right, but which he took from someone else.
- 29:04But he did say, show me a coach without good players. Yeah,
- 29:08and show me he did the advice versa. I'm like,
- 29:11thank You's exactly it.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Awa his tracker spees for himself. And let's let's finish
- 29:17it on this big, big week for the Corners. You know,
- 29:20not that not that the Browns passing game is gonna
- 29:22be great, but that doesn't matter. You want it. You
- 29:24want you want to see Ringo. You want to see
- 29:27Dorri Jackson and Corey and Bennett now add to the mix.
- 29:30You want to see them be able to handle the responsibility.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Well, a couple of things here, so just give a
- 29:35quick we'll we're gonna do a preview for the game.
- 29:38I know that, but for folks who I don't know
- 29:40what's gonna go on. You're gonna see David and Joko
- 29:42of the Chief. He's phenomenal, my best tight ends. Nobody
- 29:45knows about he He came in too. He was probably
- 29:47twenty years old when he was drafted. He is a
- 29:50They love him, Santa Chilman. I'm all enough to remember
- 29:53his dad when he was with the Broncos. And Mike Shanahan.
- 29:56He's really good. Number nineteen, Jerry Judy of course, uh
- 30:01An X Eagle, DeAndre Carter you might remember him from
- 30:03years ago.
- 30:04Speaker 1: I cannot believe he is still he is returning. Caam Darling,
- 30:07that's made.
- 30:07Speaker 3: It who could return? And Deontay Johnson he's still hanging
- 30:10on man and and this is great a reunion for
- 30:16Scott Leffler, who coached Harold Fannon junior.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Yeah there you go.
- 30:22Speaker 3: Yeah, good fun.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Uh yeah, I was gonna say, these will be pretty
- 30:28intense practices. They'll be competitive. And Nick Sirianni does not
- 30:32typically play his starters, especially he doesn't play him anyway
- 30:36in the preseason, but especially after joint practices, because the
- 30:40beauty of a joint practice is the coaches can script
- 30:44every single scenario you want to see red zone. You'll
- 30:47see reds. You want to say, third down, third down,
- 30:49third down, short, third down, long, third, medium, goal line.
- 30:52Two minutes, drill, four minutes, drill. They get together, they collaborate,
- 30:55they want to see this thing. These things may never
- 30:57come up in the two or three series that you
- 30:59would typically player starters, but they will come up if
- 31:02you coach them and write them in to the script,
- 31:04which these coaches do. That's why these practices are far
- 31:08far better and more exciting and a better product if
- 31:12you're able to watch it than a preseason game.
- 31:15Speaker 3: Now. I know they won't do lessons with the threes,
- 31:17but I've actually come and joined practice over years where
- 31:19they actually hit and I couldn't believe it, Like really, Yeah,
- 31:23a couple of things they'll just add. Like so basically
- 31:26what happens is the night before or the morning of,
- 31:29typically the night before fifteen gets there, they exchange the
- 31:33scripts about this is what we want to do, this
- 31:35is what we want to do. Now, I'm not going
- 31:37to mention the former AFC north head coach over the
- 31:39last twenty years who did it. So this guy try
- 31:43to change a couple of things mid practice with a
- 31:46NFC South team, and to say that the NFC South
- 31:50team was super pissed at that AFC North head coach
- 31:54will be an understatement and they've out never to practice
- 31:57with them again. But I'm not going to give away.
- 31:58But you could figured it out on your own. So
- 32:02to the point is you can't change it up now.
- 32:04You could shorten up a period if you think it's
- 32:06too much. If you want to go longer, you have
- 32:08to ask the of the team, Hey, can we go
- 32:10a couple more minutes? But it's totally scripted two minute,
- 32:13four minute goal line situationally one on one. I love
- 32:17watching the one on ones. It's it's it's fun. I
- 32:21love these things. Good for the Browns and Stefanski and
- 32:23Sirianni and the gms and who obviously know each other,
- 32:27Howie and Andrew Berry worked with her and Adam Berry's
- 32:29brother's twin brother looks just like him work for the Yes,
- 32:31he does looks. Yeah, you would think that they were twins.
- 32:33They're not, but it looks just like him. Well oh there,
- 32:36I didn't even know that, but I think Adam's younger,
- 32:38right is that young?
- 32:39Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah? No? Wait, which one is? The Browns GM
- 32:43Andrew yes, yeah, Adam is the younger one, right.
- 32:47Speaker 3: Okay, but on your point, So last week the guy
- 32:50walked right by me, I'm like, wait a minute, wait
- 32:53oh that's Adam Barry. Oh my god. It's just like
- 32:56them anyway.
- 32:56Speaker 1: You think they were twins. That's funny, all right. So
- 32:59that's that's pretty much the roundabout. And of course we'll
- 33:02have our observation podcast and everything, and Andrew Checko will
- 33:06have the check Out aily and we'll have you covered
