- 0:03Podcast for a more. Civilized fandom.
- 0:20Hi everyone. Welcome to another episode of
- 0:22Most Things Kenobi, a podcast about Obi Wan Kenobi and all
- 0:26things Star Wars. I'm your host, Lauren.
- 0:29And I'm your host Leanne. This week we are talking about
- 0:34Hut, Slayer, Leia. Which?
- 0:38We've never delved into before. Not a lot of people delve into
- 0:42the fact that she's a bad ass in the way that she killed a
- 0:45goddamn Hut. Yeah, I know.
- 0:49I mean, come on. Those are hard to dispose of.
- 0:55What a way to put it? Well, I mean, you see it through
- 0:59Clone Wars and you know, and you just, they're not easy.
- 1:05They're not easy to deal with to get rid of.
- 1:08We saw it in The Mandalorian too.
- 1:10There's there's huts that he has to deal with.
- 1:12They're just, yes, not easy to dispose of.
- 1:17Well, they're crime Lords, they have a crime syndicate, and
- 1:24they're generally a bit gross. They're slovenly.
- 1:30Yes, yes. And they clearly have no respect
- 1:34for life, since they're they have no problem taking slaves,
- 1:40keeping people as entertainment, feeding them to rank whores,
- 1:44etcetera. Yeah, yeah, they're the they are
- 1:48the seven deadly sins that we talked about, all wrapped up
- 1:52into one giant slug form. Yeah, yes.
- 1:57I do appreciate the fact that George Lucas tried to make what
- 2:02we just described, you know, like this disgusting, like
- 2:06visually disgusting character. All of the bad things that a
- 2:12person could be kind of wrapped up into one and visually,
- 2:17visually unappealing, you know what I mean?
- 2:20Yes, it's like they're outer quote UN quote.
- 2:24Beauty reflects their inner beauty.
- 2:26Like there. Is no inner beauty.
- 2:28So there is no outer beauty, you know, Not that, Not that those
- 2:31things correlate in real life, but in film it's definitely a
- 2:35way to show that. The external sickness, you know,
- 2:38he even has a green slime on his mouth.
- 2:41Yes, he most certainly has an upper respiratory infection.
- 2:45He. Does.
- 2:48Because we don't see that with the other huts.
- 2:50They're not slobbering and drooling and coughing up, you
- 2:55know, like that seems like. Do you need a Do you need some
- 3:00floating inhaler? Yeah.
- 3:06Just, well, a Hut. OK, so a Hut Slayer is a term
- 3:13now, but it was not back in the day.
- 3:15This for those who don't know, it's, you know, Leia in the gold
- 3:20bikini I from Return of the Jedi.
- 3:24And it was originally always referred to as slave Leia and
- 3:29and that was just kind of how it was known.
- 3:31And even Carrie Fisher said that she like came to terms with
- 3:34that, like she was fine with it. She didn't have a problem with
- 3:36it. She chose to reframe that whole
- 3:40era for Leia as a moment of strength, as opposed to like a
- 3:45moment of her being vulnerable and weak and taken as a slave.
- 3:50So then Disney acquires Star Wars in 2012, and they are
- 3:56uncomfortable with the term slave, so they don't like Slave
- 4:01Leia. And they also didn't like the
- 4:02ship slave, a slave one or whatever.
- 4:06Oh yeah. Yeah.
- 4:07Yeah, so they wanted to rename all of this stuff, which Carrie
- 4:12Fisher said was ridiculous. Like she came out and said that
- 4:15she didn't agree with that. She thought it was silly, but
- 4:18Disney kind of, like stuck to their guns and decided to not
- 4:21make any more quote Slave Leia products, right?
- 4:27And a fan is the one who said why don't we reframe it as
- 4:33Hutzler Leia? And then Claudia Gray loved that
- 4:39and wrote it into the book Bloodline, making it Canon.
- 4:43Yes, yes. And I remember reading the book,
- 4:46and I actually have the quote here because I figured it would
- 4:48come up. I remember reading the book and
- 4:52this coming up in the book. And I thought, Oh my God, it's
- 4:55so empowering. The quote goes like this.
- 4:57And it's not. This is not a spoiler alert,
- 5:00doesn't give anything away. So for those who haven't read
- 5:03it, it's not, it's not a big deal.
- 5:05The quote goes like this Hut Slayer Rin Riven breathed in
- 5:09genuine reverence. This is what we call you among
- 5:12ourselves, and it is a far greater title than either
- 5:15Senator or Princess could ever be.
- 5:17The Nicktos know you. For the Warrior, You are Hut
- 5:20Slayer, and you will always have friends among us.
- 5:24Fuck yeah. Yeah 'cause Leia goes to meet
- 5:28this group of people in the story and introduces herself and
- 5:33they say no, you are Hut Slayer to us and that's what you'll
- 5:36always be known as. That's so awesome.
- 5:40And it's like, so fitting. It's, it's great.
- 5:45I mean, it's a hell of a title. I mean it's.
- 5:47Yeah, she. Took a fucking hot down and the
- 5:49way she did it with her own chain.
- 5:52Talk about taking your power back.
- 5:56Yes, I. Love it.
- 5:58Yeah, but she took her the the tool Jabba was using to
- 6:03humiliate her and it became her weapon.
- 6:06Like, yeah, it's so fucking awesome.
- 6:09And how amazing is it that all this other chaos is going on?
- 6:14Luke and Han and and all the things, all the parts are moving
- 6:18and she's well, I'm not just going to stand here.
- 6:20I see an opportunity. He's not going anywhere.
- 6:23Let me climb up this giant body and suffocate his ass.
- 6:27And I love and the way they film it, like her Yankee in his
- 6:31tongue, his tongue, like falling out, it's.
- 6:34So gross. It's so great.
- 6:37It's so good. Yeah.
- 6:40Self rescuing Princess to the very end.
- 6:43To the very end. So fucking good.
- 6:46My God. And like the fact that she's in
- 6:51this kind of vulnerable outfit and she's got like cloth booties
- 6:55on and. Yeah, totally impractical.
- 6:58Yes, my God, I bet it's like, I would just imagine I'd be
- 7:01slipping all over the place. Into Maybe they were good for
- 7:06climbing up on that slimy body of his.
- 7:09Oh God, yeah, that's. So crazy, you know, Disgusting.
- 7:17It is so gross. You know, originally he, George
- 7:20Lucas had kind of planned the huts as humans that had evolved
- 7:26like they had a skin disease and that's how they became huts
- 7:29because. I'm out.
- 7:30Yeah, right. No, it's so gross.
- 7:34I can't do skin conditions. I can't do that.
- 7:39Had he done that, I may not be a fan.
- 7:42To this day, I may not have been able to watch it.
- 7:44Honest to God. Skip all the parts, with Java
- 7:48that is. So I can't.
- 7:50I can't even. Sorry, I've ruined it.
- 7:53I've ruined it now. No, you're fine.
- 7:55It's God. There's a great quote from
- 8:00Claudia Gray about why she wanted to write this in, and she
- 8:05said not only did I like recasting that outfit as a
- 8:08memory of Leia being really strong and kick ass, but think
- 8:12about it. For a human being to kill a Hut
- 8:14with her bare hands, that's unbelievable.
- 8:17Anybody who would be able to pull that off would be
- 8:19remembered for it. That would be a legend.
- 8:22Yes, a legend. Absolutely, Yes.
- 8:26Yeah. It's like when Luke walked into
- 8:29the room with Palpatine and Vader and only one person walked
- 8:31out and that was Luke. That's a legend.
- 8:35That's a fucking legend. Nobody knows what went on in
- 8:38there. I know.
- 8:39And only Luke walked out. And here, Leia's got next to
- 8:43nothing on. Yeah.
- 8:45Bound by 1 chain and she's like I'll take care of this with the
- 8:49strength of hers and she's she's little.
- 8:52It's very it's very Padme. Padme kind of had to take the
- 8:57situation as is and we see her with it.
- 9:00Don't. Doesn't she have a chain in
- 9:02Attack of the Clones? Oh, I don't remember.
- 9:06They're like chained to those pillars, right?
- 9:08Him, Obi Wan, Anakin and her. And she has a chain and she's
- 9:12like Lasso. Kind of.
- 9:14Maybe I'm embellishing it, but like, obviously that's after the
- 9:18fact. But I think that Leia would
- 9:19have, I'm sorry, Padme would have done what she could in that
- 9:23instant. Now Padme is even smaller than
- 9:25Carrie Fisher. I'm doing character names and
- 9:30and human names. Natalie Portman is even more
- 9:35petite than Carrie Fisher, I think, especially in their roles
- 9:40as the character. So maybe, I don't know how that
- 9:42would have worked, but I I think that was the spirit of Padme and
- 9:46shit. Anakin would have done damn near
- 9:50the same. But that's another point of why
- 9:53we're talking about this, because it wasn't just any Hut
- 9:57that Leia killed, right? Perfect segue.
- 10:04Yeah. I mean, she literally killed the
- 10:07Hut that enslaved her father, and her grandmother for that
- 10:10matter. Yeah, poetry.
- 10:13It's beautiful. Beautiful and it's fantastic.
- 10:20Like full circle because Anakin's son is dealing with the
- 10:24rest of them. Anakin's daughter deals with
- 10:28him, and Jabba the Hutt enslaved his Anakin's mother had no
- 10:36respect for anyone, let alone a woman with a child, right?
- 10:42Put her to work, make money off of her, that sort of thing.
- 10:46Try to enslave, literally enslave Leia the same way he
- 10:50enslaved so many others. And she just flipped the switch
- 10:54on him and killed him. And it's great.
- 10:56It's greatly it's symbolically fantastic.
- 11:00Yeah. And it's so much more too, than
- 11:04than just, oh, she killed the Hut.
- 11:06And like, that's that's badass. Like, not only does she
- 11:10basically avenge her father's injustice.
- 11:13She. Breaks the Hut's stranglehold.
- 11:17People argue on the whole Galaxy because at that point they were
- 11:20kind of weaker anyway. And by killing Jabba, he was
- 11:24like one of the last links in a chain.
- 11:27And to have Tatooine no longer under a Hut, which is one of the
- 11:32Outer Rim planets. So all this like crazy backwater
- 11:36gangster stuff was going on. She broke that.
- 11:41And like there there's even moments in the comics, in the
- 11:47Vader comics where Vader goes to Jabba to get information or to
- 11:54like use him somehow. So even the like tie to the
- 11:59Empire there is broken as well. Like, it's just so fucking
- 12:04awesome. So the hell can Vader go to
- 12:07Jabba and just not remember any of it?
- 12:11I know he does, and he has to, like, push it.
- 12:15Deep, deep, deep down. Yeah.
- 12:17How could you? That's.
- 12:20There's so many moments like that, even when he's still
- 12:23Anakin, they rescue Jabba's son. Yeah, I know what what?
- 12:29I'm not getting into it. I'm gonna.
- 12:32There's so many to. Get into it.
- 12:36I guess I can understand a little of it, 'cause if
- 12:38Palpatine is the one moving the pieces and Anakin hasn't turned
- 12:42yet, you can always fall back on.
- 12:44OK, well, we're putting Anakin in a situation that's gonna
- 12:47ignite some fire inside him and some resentment and da da da da
- 12:51da. But as Vader, how do you just
- 12:56shelve that? He it must have been like using
- 13:03like recognizing that he needed him for the greater purpose or
- 13:07whatever that he was using Java for at the time.
- 13:10But that is so not like Anakin or.
- 13:13Vader to see the. Bigger picture, they are like
- 13:16hyper focused. Usually they I'm talking about
- 13:19them like they're two different people.
- 13:20I was. I was gonna bring it up.
- 13:22Perhaps he has to compartmentalize out of
- 13:25necessity. He can't go to Jabba as the
- 13:29person he used to be, the the kid he was once was, that's
- 13:32dead. According to him at this time,
- 13:35that's dead. So if that's the way he can
- 13:38justify, I mean, I don't know. I'm not, I can't do that.
- 13:43Right, I I couldn't either. That would be very difficult and
- 13:48and for him to get so angry with the Zegerians.
- 13:52I know. But then be able to control it
- 13:56in front of Jabba. And even I don't, I don't
- 14:00remember in the Clone Wars movie when they rescue stinky Jabba's.
- 14:06Son. Stinky I don't remember if the
- 14:10Jedi return the sun to Jabba like in person, or if it's just
- 14:17Ahsoka. I don't remember that part, so I
- 14:19don't remember if Anakin actually faces Jabba or is just
- 14:23there on Tatooine. No, I think he's just there.
- 14:27Doesn't he get distracted? And then Ahsoka.
- 14:30He's fighting with Dooku. Yeah, that's what I that's what
- 14:33I was thinking. OK.
- 14:34Yeah. And I think that's when Ahsoka,
- 14:37like, manages to get the baby back.
- 14:39But like the fact that Anakin is doing this, he is.
- 14:43And I saw something that made me laugh out loud on Reddit.
- 14:46It was like Anakin saves Jabba's son, but then Jabba goes to
- 14:50throw Anakin's son into the sarlacc pit.
- 14:53What a Dick move. What a Dick move.
- 14:57I didn't even think of that. What the fuck, Jabba?
- 15:02Oh my God. Zero concern.
- 15:04Zero fucks given for any. That's a take.
- 15:07Take, take, take, take, take, take No.
- 15:09Give 0. Yeah, he has no no moral compass
- 15:15whatsoever. No, no, gross.
- 15:19He's gross. And I'm glad that Leia choked
- 15:23him until his fat tongue fell out of his his mouth.
- 15:29It's just that one detail always, always gets me whenever
- 15:33I see that scene they made. Sure.
- 15:35Well, and I think it's kind of great because he does that
- 15:40really gross thing when he first takes her, where he, like, tries
- 15:43to lick her and licks his lips. So it's like the next time his
- 15:48tongue is sticking out, it's 'cause she killed him.
- 15:50Yes, exactly. And it's embarrassing.
- 15:53He would never be caught dead. Like he's all about the riches
- 15:55and having all of his people and his his slaves around him and
- 15:59food at the ready and stuff, and then he just dies and spews
- 16:02more, you know, saliva. Very undignified.
- 16:08Yeah, it's very undignified and I'm glad I'm here for it.
- 16:10I'm sure he shit himself too. We just didn't see it.
- 16:12I know I had the same thoughts. Were you thinking it?
- 16:19Oh, gross. But it's probably true.
- 16:22I love it. I love it.
- 16:24Salacious got the fuck out of there too.
- 16:26He's like, he seriously gone. Nuts trying to save him?
- 16:30Nope. Done.
- 16:32I'm getting out of this fold. I don't need to be here.
- 16:39So there's an angle to it I kind of want to ask you about,
- 16:42because you read Bloodline and I have.
- 16:44Yeah, but I don't know if I remember all of it well many
- 16:47years ago. But so the the other side of
- 16:51this is, isn't Leia really uncomfortable with knowing she's
- 16:55Vader's daughter? Yes.
- 16:56And in fact, one of my favorite parts of the book is when she
- 16:59comes to the realization that maybe Vader wasn't what she
- 17:04thought. There's a moment where she gets
- 17:06so fucking angry that she has this thought in her head that I
- 17:09could kill everyone in this room as long as this person who's I
- 17:15don't remember the character's name.
- 17:16But he was like the main antagonist, right?
- 17:20She has this thought like, I could kill if.
- 17:22If it would end his reign, I would kill everybody in this
- 17:25room. Like she's really fucking angry.
- 17:28Then she has a pause and she's like, whoa, what if my father?
- 17:33What if his motives weren't totally steeped in, You know,
- 17:38like out of hate it was to stop something worse from happening
- 17:42or to save somebody. And all this stuff, she
- 17:45considers it all in her head and it makes her pause and she's
- 17:48like, Oh no, I don't. I don't.
- 17:49I don't know how I feel about all this.
- 17:51Yeah. Like, I don't know if this is
- 17:53spoilery. This might be a spoiler.
- 17:56So just turn the volume down for like 30 seconds starting now.
- 18:02Bale is the one that admits to her in a voice box in like a
- 18:06music box that has a voice recording and admits to her who
- 18:10her father really was. And that's like something she
- 18:13was supposed to find out long before Luke and all this.
- 18:17Stuff interesting. So it got lost.
- 18:19Someone else found it. That's how they found out.
- 18:22And that's where the drama starts.
- 18:24Oh, interesting. I need to read this book.
- 18:27I haven't read it. It's really political.
- 18:29OK, everyone, you're back. Hi, thanks for turning it down.
- 18:32If you turned it down, it's really political.
- 18:37And some of it drags on. So if you're not into that,
- 18:40which I'm not. Yeah, I'm not either.
- 18:42Skim the first sentence of each paragraph and you'll get the
- 18:45idea. But there's some really great
- 18:48moments of her and Han in this book.
- 18:49There's mention of Ben Solo, There's mention of Bail Organa.
- 18:54There's all kinds of goodies in the book.
- 18:57And of course her in action. There's action scenes with her
- 19:01like still kicking ass, still doing her thing, you know?
- 19:05And then there's tender moments of her, like doing her hair
- 19:07while she's on FaceTime with Han.
- 19:08You know, like. It's.
- 19:11Cute I. I need to read books with
- 19:13something like that. I don't really think I've read
- 19:15anything that has any of the more tender stuff between her
- 19:19and Han. I have the Beth Revis book, but
- 19:22I haven't read it yet so. The wedding of those two.
- 19:26Yeah, I still have to read it. It's on my list.
- 19:28I got a list so long I got to read that Dooku book.
- 19:33I'm going to probably just leave a large to read pile when I die.
- 19:42In your Viking ceremony when you die, there will be a stack of
- 19:46books on the boat. Burn them with me so I can take
- 19:50them into the afterlife. With me?
- 19:53Finish reading everything I don't get to.
- 19:58But yeah, there's there's a list we got to read, but this one
- 20:01should be on it. This one should be on it because
- 20:04there are so many good moments in it.
- 20:06Yeah. And it really shows the mindset
- 20:09of Leia and how she accepts or doesn't accept who Anakin was.
- 20:15Yeah, well, and he well, I think they've referenced this in the
- 20:19book. He tortured her.
- 20:22Yes. It makes their relationship
- 20:24very. Complicated.
- 20:25Very. Complicated.
- 20:27Very. Yeah, I mean, he was not great
- 20:31to his kids. He tortured one, he emotionally
- 20:34tortured the other one and then cut off his hand.
- 20:38It was so they could bond. Yeah, toxic bonding.
- 20:45This was going on there, yeah. Trauma Bonding.
- 20:49Yeah, exactly. But, but it worked out because
- 20:52Luke looked at his hand in that last moment through the through
- 20:54the lightsaber and said I'm not turning into my father.
- 20:56The end. It did work out for the
- 20:58betterment. Because Luke is a good person.
- 21:02Yes, and I'd actually want to talk about Luke just a little
- 21:06bit, because I know this is about Leah and Anakin.
- 21:08But in addition to this, like Luke's family also suffered a
- 21:15lot under Jabba. 100%. And I don't know if this is
- 21:20Canon anymore, but there have been references, and I know
- 21:23there's references in the audio drama, but there might be in in
- 21:26Legends books as well. Then, like Jabba had like a
- 21:29water tax, he would come and take your water.
- 21:33No doubt. I think there's even a reference
- 21:35to like Luke getting beat up by some of their their goons as
- 21:41they come to get water. I don't remember exactly the
- 21:44references, but Luke understands hotties, which maybe doesn't
- 21:51seem significant at first because he's on Tatooine.
- 21:54But unlike Han, who also understands Hattie's, Han's a
- 21:59man of the universe. You know, like he's gone all
- 22:01over the Galaxy. He's had exposure.
- 22:04Luke is in this backwater isolation and he still
- 22:07understands another language because it's so prevalent.
- 22:11Like Java's stranglehold is so prevalent that this kid in the
- 22:16middle of nowhere speaks another language because of it.
- 22:19So like Leia, yes, she she kind of Avengers Anakin, but she also
- 22:28Avengers Luke's family as well, who had been under this crime
- 22:34Lord's thumb as well. And you can see the anger Luke
- 22:37has in Return of the Jedi. I just love when he goes to talk
- 22:40to Jabba like he's trying to like keep his cool, but he does
- 22:43get pissed, he says. That's the last mistake you'll
- 22:45ever make. Like that's that's something a
- 22:46Jedi, I would say. Well, no, but there's a long
- 22:49standing grudge there, and she ended it for everyone.
- 22:54Yeah, it's pretty badass. I never really thought of it
- 22:58that that way, but when you put it in a perspective like that,
- 23:02it it's kind of like there's nowhere you can run on Tatooine
- 23:06where you can escape the shadow of a Hut.
- 23:09I don't mean that literally, although, But you know what I
- 23:13mean? The oppression, the the
- 23:15constant. He's got men out there looking,
- 23:19just looking to pick a fight with someone like Luke.
- 23:22Yeah. Exactly.
- 23:24And Luke has such like a sense of justice that he would
- 23:27probably get into trouble. Well, Uncle Owen's trying to
- 23:31keep his head down. Luke is more likely to be the
- 23:34person to say like, that isn't right.
- 23:36We shouldn't, like, just go along with it.
- 23:38Hotties seems like a really difficult language to learn.
- 23:42They from what I read, you can. Humans can understand it, but
- 23:45they can't speak it. I see.
- 23:48So on the reverse they would do the huts.
- 23:52They they understand everything that they understand.
- 23:55Basic right? Yeah, they understand basic and
- 23:58then they have, you know, they're using 3PO as a.
- 24:01Oh, that's true. They have droids.
- 24:02Yeah, that's true. OK.
- 24:04Yeah, but. Oh, this makes me want to
- 24:06rewatch A Return of the Jedi. I know, I know.
- 24:09I it hit me once that like 3PO is not translating for Luke
- 24:14during that scene because the. Oh yeah, you're right, he.
- 24:19Does because he knows. Yes, he does sometimes for some
- 24:23parts of it. But when Luke is there, he's not
- 24:25translating. Luke understands it.
- 24:28That's hot. Yeah.
- 24:33I mean, it just shows like, you know, how hard it is to learn
- 24:36another language. I mean, it is for for me, for
- 24:39us, OK? It's like those of us in the US
- 24:43of A aren't great at picking up second language.
- 24:46And I'm. I'm here to tell you I'm
- 24:47embarrassed by that, but Luke is intelligent.
- 24:52He's highly intelligent, so he picked it up.
- 24:56That's hot it. Is very hot.
- 25:00That's what I thought when I first.
- 25:01Saw it? Yeah, Exactly.
- 25:03Well, anyone who understands droids, like, so effortlessly,
- 25:07that's right. Like, basically binary of some
- 25:10kind, right? Right.
- 25:12And he also understands Chewy. Huh.
- 25:15Which? Which is crazy.
- 25:18Because he's never seen a wookie before.
- 25:22This Harkins. Back to the Christmas special.
- 25:27I needed an interpreter. I need an interpreter to tell me
- 25:30what the fuck all of that was. But we don't, right?
- 25:35Because we would just be in pain.
- 25:37Yeah, We're never, ever going to watch it again.
- 25:39Never. The only time I would care is if
- 25:45Luke came and translated so then I could just listen to him, but
- 25:49otherwise I don't. I think it's awesome that Luke
- 25:53knows this stuff. Leia I would expect because she
- 25:56was kind of raised amongst other races and probably as a as a
- 26:00soon to be senator would have to.
- 26:02Yeah. You know, kind of learn the
- 26:04ways, yeah, and and speak the languages of others.
- 26:07And when you start young, you can pick it up much easier.
- 26:12Everything. Yes, it's easier to be bilingual
- 26:16or multilingual if you start basically from the beginning.
- 26:19And that's why I struggle. I didn't Start learning a new
- 26:22language till I was like 15 and my it just does not stick in my
- 26:28brain. It's really difficult.
- 26:29I really struggle a lot. I can kind of understand stuff,
- 26:34but I can't speak it. Yeah.
- 26:37Yeah, I don't know. My mind is not wired for it,
- 26:40that's for sure. The only other thing is that
- 26:43there's like a gross side to this of people who really are
- 26:48opposed to the renaming and why they because they think Leia was
- 26:57not a hero. They think that the the
- 27:02arguments I read said that she was in that position because she
- 27:06messed up the the rescue of Han Solo and she was only able to
- 27:13kill Jabba because other people like Luke and Han and three PO
- 27:19were distracting people who would have protected Jabba.
- 27:22So she just took advantage of an opportunity, but that Luke also
- 27:26should have been called Hutslayer because without him
- 27:29she wouldn't have been able to do it.
- 27:30It was just like this whole nasty I went down a rabbit hole
- 27:35that made me sick to my stomach, kind of of people saying that
- 27:39she deserved to be called a slave, that she she is a slave,
- 27:44she's dressed like a slave, so she we should call her a slave.
- 27:47And they just are opposed to anything from the original
- 27:50trilogy. Being changed, I have.
- 27:51I have news. That is not how a slave is
- 27:53dressed. That was rich fabric gold.
- 27:58It was done in a way to please Jabba visually.
- 28:02Unless. Unless she's a sexual slave,
- 28:05which is what? Some people implication.
- 28:08People were saying they're like, we don't know what happened with
- 28:11Jabba, but the clothes imply and it's like, this is just so
- 28:15gross. So what is she supposed to do
- 28:18then? Sit there?
- 28:19Wait for Luke to rescue her or take advantage of an
- 28:23opportunity? To me, that sounds like every
- 28:25hero you take advantage of an opportunity.
- 28:29Literally, Luke is on that barge thing.
- 28:32He gets caught also. Yeah, like he set up an
- 28:36opportunity and then it goes a little sideways.
- 28:40That's that's called a plot, folks.
- 28:48Well, it's, you know, we all know that there's that.
- 28:51There's that side of Star Wars fandom that's just ready to jump
- 28:57on anything that's new and hated.
- 29:00And to me, I really, I really like Hutzler because I was
- 29:05uncomfortable seeing Leia in that position, even as a kid.
- 29:11It made me feel really uncomfortable to see that 'cause
- 29:13she had been such a strong hero. It was like the fastest way to
- 29:16humiliate a woman is take away her clothing and make her
- 29:21vulnerable on the end of a chain.
- 29:22Like it just like creeps me out so much.
- 29:26And so to be able to reframe it as a moment of strength, I think
- 29:32it's very empowering and makes me feel a lot better about the
- 29:36whole thing, even though I am still a little uncomfortable
- 29:39with it. But you know.
- 29:41Well, bottom line, no matter what situation Leia finds
- 29:46herself in, from a child all the way to her dying days, she took
- 29:52opportunities to empower others and empowered herself.
- 29:57No matter what the situation. You call it whatever you want,
- 30:01but to me that's that's a hero and that's an idol.
- 30:04Yep. I don't care what you label it,
- 30:06I prefer Hutslayer. Yeah, fuck yeah.
- 30:10Yeah, fuck you Jabba. Our question to you this week is
- 30:24pretty simple. Do you prefer the term Hutslayer
- 30:28when it comes to Leia as opposed to we'll say Slave Leia or just
- 30:32you know, self rescuing Princess or anything else that's that
- 30:37goes along with the term Leia? But do you like hudslayer?
- 30:40Because we do Let us know. Next week we are starting a new
- 30:46series. I'm really excited about this.
- 30:49Our one of our listeners kind of gave me the idea she was saying
- 30:53how you and really impacted how we see Obi Wan.
- 30:57And then I was thinking because James is my favorite Obi Wan And
- 31:02then I was like, well, but there's also Alec Guinness and
- 31:05then there's I think it's is it Steven Stanton I think from
- 31:07Rebels. So what we're going to do is
- 31:09we're going to go through each of these four actors who have
- 31:13played Obi Wan, giving them their own episodes.
- 31:16So I think the next week we're going to talk about Alec
- 31:18Guinness. We're just going to talk about
- 31:21how Alec Guinness, well, like what he brought to the
- 31:25character. And then the week after that
- 31:28we'll do you and then we'll do James and then we'll do Steven
- 31:31Stanton. So it's going to be a really
- 31:33cool series and then when that's done, we'll do Anakin in the
- 31:35future. So stick with us.
- 31:37I can't wait. It's going to be really fun.
- 31:40So yeah, join us back here next week for starting our new Obi
- 31:43Wan series. Yes.
- 31:47And we had a lot of listener comments regarding our
- 31:50attachment themed episode, which thank you so much for all the
- 31:53positive feedback we've received.
- 31:56It's been really awesome. We've received some very private
- 32:00messages about attachment in our listeners lives, some that we're
- 32:04not going to read just to keep private, but we really, really
- 32:08loved a lot of what we got. Yeah, such enthusiasm for this
- 32:14subject. It was, really.
- 32:15Cool. It's a ponderous subject.
- 32:17I think about it all the time and and especially lately.
- 32:21So I'm really glad people enjoyed the episode.
- 32:23Thank you. Yeah, our friends over at
- 32:26Scariff podcast shout out to Scariff Podcast.
- 32:29They say love the topic. My head cannon is that
- 32:32attachment has been misunderstood by fans.
- 32:34I feel that, like in the real world, our healthy attachment to
- 32:38the ones we love gives us unlimited power, which I thought
- 32:42was a very nice point of view. That's beautiful.
- 32:45I love that. Yeah.
- 32:48Well, I had. I have a ton of comments, but
- 32:51I'm just going to read Foundling Mercantile's comment because I
- 32:54thought it was such a good point, she says.
- 32:56Such a good episode. I feel like there's so many
- 32:58explorations in the books of how each Jedi interpreted their
- 33:02rules of attachment, love, and affection.
- 33:06There seems to be a camaraderie and affection with a disaster
- 33:09trio. And their and their.
- 33:11Clones, but there is a cold detachment with the old school
- 33:15Jedi Council. Even at the end of the Revenge
- 33:18of the Sith book, Yoda admits that it was the lack of
- 33:22flexibility that caused their fall.
- 33:24I completely agree and I think that's the general consensus we
- 33:28tried to come up with is that maybe there needed to be a
- 33:32little more balance with it, a little more flexibility and.
- 33:37I don't know why I didn't think of this when we were talking
- 33:39about it, but I thought about Qui Gon and how he's kind of
- 33:45both camps. Yeah, he he is.
- 33:49And I'm talking about in Phantom Menace, not in the Legends books
- 33:52or anything like that. In Phantom Menace specifically,
- 33:54he's really sweet and affectionate to Anakin and Shmi,
- 33:59but he's not attached. Like he is able to be both
- 34:04things, just like Luke. Like it doesn't keep him from
- 34:09doing his duty and being a good Jedi and following the Force,
- 34:13but he's still kind and warm and.
- 34:16Very. Yeah, I just, I think he, I
- 34:19think that's why when we did Who is the best Jedi episode.
- 34:23I was just. Thinking that so many people,
- 34:25said Qui Gon. And the majority?
- 34:27Said Qui Gon. Yeah, and.
- 34:29It makes, Yeah, he's got, Yeah, We need more Qui gon.
- 34:33I know we should probably do another Qui Gon episode sometime
- 34:36soon. OK.
- 34:39So thank you again to everyone, even you know, the ones we
- 34:42didn't read just to keep them private.
- 34:44And of course the ones we did read everyone who chimed in.
- 34:46We just adore you all and love the feedback.
- 34:49So thank you and thank you for listening.
