- 0:08Speaker 1: This is me eater podcast coming in you shirtless, severely
- 0:13Speaker 1: bitten and in my case, underwear listening podcast. You can't
- 0:18Speaker 1: predict anything. How's it going, guys? Yo? When we got
- 0:34Speaker 1: up here, we're doing a thing called sound check, and
- 0:36Speaker 1: we found out that well, Jimmy Dorn was all excited
- 0:40Speaker 1: about Eddie Vetter and him jumping around up here right there.
- 0:44Speaker 1: But more important than that is who Denie. Who Deny
- 0:51Speaker 1: was on this stage was right about here two times.
- 0:56Speaker 1: My brother always likes to talk about how who Deny died? Where?
- 0:59Speaker 1: Who Denie fell? That? Do you guys know this? He
- 1:02Speaker 1: felt that he could like clench his stomach and withstand
- 1:06Speaker 1: any blow, and some kid was like, well, I'll try
- 1:10Speaker 1: it and killed him man like hit him. He did. Well,
- 1:14Speaker 1: we got what we were discussing that. We thought you
- 1:17Speaker 1: were part of the conversation, but you obviously weren't listening
- 1:19Speaker 1: to us. The stage manager told us that, yes, that happened,
- 1:24Speaker 1: but that's not what killed him. Yeah, it did. It
- 1:26Speaker 1: rupture his appendence. He tried to do a trick after
- 1:29Speaker 1: that in a water tank right to get through his act.
- 1:33Speaker 1: He couldn't get through his act, went back, wouldn't go
- 1:35Speaker 1: to the hospital or something like that, and died. Wasn't
- 1:38Speaker 1: this stage we should exactly he died and they said
- 1:41Speaker 1: they cut out they cut out a beam under the
- 1:43Speaker 1: stage that's still cut from his act in like nive
- 1:46Speaker 1: or more theater. Oh my introductions, um the Lavin Eagle,
- 1:58Speaker 1: thank you, and uh Jimmy Dorn from Belltown Pizza, he's
- 2:07Speaker 1: been on the show. If if you wanna, if you
- 2:14Speaker 1: want to patronize Belltown Pizza under Jimmy Dorn's command your time, No,
- 2:22Speaker 1: then you have a lot a long time to patronize
- 2:26Speaker 1: Jimmy Doran's pizza restaurant. Hopefully not that much longer. How
- 2:29Speaker 1: many years you've been at Belltown sixteen and then there's seventeen.
- 2:34Speaker 1: But yeah, I've been running it for owning it for
- 2:37Speaker 1: fifteen and then uh yeah, hopefully winding down. So he
- 2:43Speaker 1: I told him he doesn't even if he doesn't say
- 2:45Speaker 1: anything tonight, that's all that I told him. He doesn't
- 2:47Speaker 1: ever say anything. We just wanted to be represented by
- 2:49Speaker 1: a generalist, seattleite outdoorsman. This guy he likes he likes
- 3:00Speaker 1: to catch salmon, he likes to shoot at deer, he
- 3:02Speaker 1: likes to root and like like every dude I know
- 3:05Speaker 1: in Seattle, like every guy in Seattle. He's like, well, yeah,
- 3:09Speaker 1: but I like the Seahawks a long time ago. Oh
- 3:12Speaker 1: I did. I like the Seahawks when they sucked, but
- 3:18Speaker 1: we've been very fortunate they don't suck anymore. My favorite story,
- 3:22Speaker 1: I think is when you tell him about Jimmy's turkey hunt.
- 3:24Speaker 1: How like overnight he became an expert turkey hunter because
- 3:27Speaker 1: you guys walked up on some turkeys one time. That's
- 3:30Speaker 1: a good story. We were actually driving back from a
- 3:34Speaker 1: set in the morning where we had sat out and
- 3:35Speaker 1: froze our asses off and didn't see a thing. And
- 3:39Speaker 1: we were two weeks into the turkey season, and I
- 3:40Speaker 1: believe the guide took us to a place where everything
- 3:43Speaker 1: had been shot and our guide, uh was We were
- 3:48Speaker 1: just literally driving back and he's like, hey, I just
- 3:49Speaker 1: want to check this little sliver Republic. And we were
- 3:53Speaker 1: just taking a meandering route through this one little sliver
- 3:56Speaker 1: around the Colville area, and we came around a corner
- 4:00Speaker 1: and there was literally eight tom's in the road and
- 4:04Speaker 1: we basically jumped out of the truck and shot him
- 4:08Speaker 1: and we got a tax. He's like, what's the heart
- 4:11Speaker 1: about this. Yeah, it always happens that way. I didn't
- 4:14Speaker 1: really call it a hunt. I called it more of
- 4:16Speaker 1: a shoeing. Get it gets a good way. And then
- 4:21Speaker 1: uh are very on Sam London? If you Sam? Sam
- 4:30Speaker 1: writes about all Sam writes about all kinds of stuff
- 4:32Speaker 1: for us? What's that your people are up top? I
- 4:36Speaker 1: don't know. The guys don't matter. Oh yeah, tell where
- 4:42Speaker 1: you're from. Yeah, I'd like to consider myself a generalist,
- 4:45Speaker 1: yadelite hunter all day carrying Montana. You quit moved? Yeah,
- 4:49Speaker 1: I quitnt moved, but I did grow up on Wipy Island,
- 4:51Speaker 1: live in Washington until I was twenty two. And then uh,
- 4:57Speaker 1: April Bokey, who's not only not she's not even in
- 5:00Speaker 1: the damn country? What what's the town? You know? You like?
- 5:10Speaker 1: Tell where you're from? And then how you always apologize
- 5:12Speaker 1: about it? Yeah, but I always say, don't tell anybodybody? Sorry,
- 5:17Speaker 1: what don't tell anybody? Yeah? Nothing yet it's surrean, don't
- 5:25Speaker 1: tell anyone. So now you even told everyone and everyone
- 5:27Speaker 1: knows to. People want to say hi to So happy anniversary.
- 5:30Speaker 1: We have Ross and Megan Sharp. You guys here, all right,
- 5:36Speaker 1: there's a bunch of like there's a bunch of gas.
- 5:38Speaker 1: There's a bunch of people you would know from the show.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Tommy Edson's here, he's been on that show. Tony Cola Ross,
- 5:43Speaker 1: he's been on the show. Greg Blaskovich has been on
- 5:46Speaker 1: the show. I think my friend Bowman's here. I never
- 5:49Speaker 1: let him come on. Um and then down from joint
- 5:55Speaker 1: bass Lewis McCord, we have Seth Wheeler, who I met earlier,
- 5:59Speaker 1: So him and his teammate are here. Good dudes been
- 6:02Speaker 1: in and out of war zones for a long time now.
- 6:04Speaker 1: As we were just discussing and um and then I
- 6:07Speaker 1: used to kind of be I was like a temporary
- 6:09Speaker 1: seatlite uh And I got all nostalgic here because we
- 6:12Speaker 1: rented a how's it air It's like a it's an Airbnb,
- 6:16Speaker 1: but it's more like a hotel. I feel like it's
- 6:19Speaker 1: uh like an apartment building department which looks down on
- 6:24Speaker 1: my main most important squid jigging spot. And it got
- 6:28Speaker 1: super nostalgic about that. Um Man, I didn't realize how
- 6:33Speaker 1: much I was gonna miss it. I moved in August,
- 6:34Speaker 1: and I got to thinking about razor clams, jigging squid
- 6:39Speaker 1: and the thing I like most. And this is why
- 6:40Speaker 1: I don't trust anyone in this audience. It's because when
- 6:46Speaker 1: I lived here, I discovered that you guys are sitting
- 6:49Speaker 1: on the continents greatest yellow perch fishery. Now, don't do that.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Don't do that, because I'm telling you, me and my
- 6:58Speaker 1: little boy hit it hard and we never once saw
- 7:03Speaker 1: a serious perch fisherman on that lake. And you know
- 7:08Speaker 1: the lake I'm talking about, it's a big gass lake.
- 7:11Speaker 1: And and as you catch fish, cyclones of perch come
- 7:15Speaker 1: up with the one you're reeling in. It's unbelievable. And people,
- 7:19Speaker 1: because you guys are steelhead and salmon snobs, I had
- 7:27Speaker 1: to I had like defend myself constantly as a perch
- 7:30Speaker 1: fisherman from Michigan, but a guy from Oregon with a
- 7:35Speaker 1: boat so that we could get out there and fish together. Yeah,
- 7:38Speaker 1: our body had to drive up with a boat from
- 7:40Speaker 1: Portland to take us perch fish in the time. That
- 7:43Speaker 1: guy that he ate his first ever small mouth bass
- 7:47Speaker 1: on Lake Washington in that bass boat, remember the spark
- 7:51Speaker 1: bash We fished perch out of that um that that
- 7:55Speaker 1: was Matt Elliott's Matt Elliott Special basketball. He came up
- 7:58Speaker 1: to fish bass, but I've filled his little live all
- 8:00Speaker 1: up the perch. Well, they haven't opened the socky season
- 8:02Speaker 1: for such a damn long time that maybe people should
- 8:04Speaker 1: just get into perch instead. Yeah, what is what is? Uh?
- 8:08Speaker 1: When was the last time that that wasn't six? I believe,
- 8:11Speaker 1: So there's no sock fishery. No, they haven't come back
- 8:14Speaker 1: in the number of seas the last time. The last
- 8:17Speaker 1: time it was open, my dad and I ran our
- 8:20Speaker 1: boat down from Whidby through the locks through Lake Union
- 8:23Speaker 1: into Lake Washington fish stock for a couple of days
- 8:26Speaker 1: and then went all the way back. It's crazy when
- 8:29Speaker 1: that when that, I hope it happens again someday because
- 8:31Speaker 1: it's such a ship show. It's it's amazing to watch.
- 8:35Speaker 1: It looks like you'd walk all the way across the
- 8:36Speaker 1: lake from boat to boat, like canoes next to yachts,
- 8:40Speaker 1: next to like drift boats to people are mostly trolling, okay, um,
- 8:47Speaker 1: but I don't know. I imagine you could jig them too,
- 8:50Speaker 1: because in the Fraser we used to line up with
- 8:52Speaker 1: like bouncing betties and then twenty ft leaders and then
- 8:55Speaker 1: go through In philosophy right right Washington You know, people
- 8:59Speaker 1: always talk about how soccer I don't don't eat, don't
- 9:01Speaker 1: grab stuff that people always phlosoph the But but we
- 9:04Speaker 1: troll uh a big flasher with a bare red hook
- 9:09Speaker 1: behind it. Yeah, no, they'll bite the hammer that bare
- 9:13Speaker 1: red octopus hook like size too. That's legal in the snow.
- 9:17Speaker 1: You can do that here. Yeah, you're not snagging. They
- 9:19Speaker 1: eat it. Yeah, we we weren't allowed because they would
- 9:21Speaker 1: eat a bear hook, but it was illegal in BC.
- 9:24Speaker 1: So we had to put like a little tuft of green.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Lot of dumb laws in b C. Did you have
- 9:29Speaker 1: to pinch your bar? There's a lot of dumb wall
- 9:31Speaker 1: laws in Washington two to play fair, yeah, but this
- 9:34Speaker 1: they got some wicked laws that she was just telling
- 9:36Speaker 1: us about it. Explain about if you're if you're not
- 9:38Speaker 1: a resident, you can't Yeah this is recent, but if
- 9:41Speaker 1: you're a non resident of British Columbia you can't fish
- 9:44Speaker 1: on weekends in the Skina system. Were on several classified rivers. Yeah,
- 9:48Speaker 1: when I fished the Bulkley, I had to pay forty
- 9:50Speaker 1: bucks a day for Thursday and Friday, and then they
- 9:53Speaker 1: kicked me off and we had to keep on driving. Yeah,
- 9:55Speaker 1: the majority of the residents actually don't support it. It's
- 9:58Speaker 1: a long story and it's very political, but it was
- 10:00Speaker 1: the Guide movement that pushed that, not us the guy,
- 10:03Speaker 1: because if you're fishing with the guide, you can fish weekends. Yeah,
- 10:05Speaker 1: and I don't guide anymore, so don't don't point at me.
- 10:07Speaker 1: But it isn't there aren't there some streams that are
- 10:09Speaker 1: completely closed to like yeah, actually, there there are rivers
- 10:12Speaker 1: that are BC resident only. So it's not it's not
- 10:15Speaker 1: just Canade. There are yeah, like the Talkla. Yeah, um,
- 10:17Speaker 1: but even someone from Alberta can't fish the Talkla. No,
- 10:21Speaker 1: you've got to be a BC resident. Can you imagine
- 10:23Speaker 1: trying to pass a lot like that in the United States? No, Max,
- 10:26Speaker 1: we believe in American rights. Yeah, yeah, told all these
- 10:30Speaker 1: people they can't come fish the Madison. Uh, Sam, while
- 10:34Speaker 1: you can you break down the thing I told you
- 10:35Speaker 1: to break down that that's happening here in Washington. Which
- 10:39Speaker 1: thing was that? You've got three things you gotta break down.
- 10:41Speaker 1: This is the first one about how the bill that
- 10:44Speaker 1: will never pass, but Washington's backpack in the example in
- 10:48Speaker 1: the proposed Yeah, this is something I just read about
- 10:52Speaker 1: this week that there's legislation in the Washington State legislature. Uh,
- 10:56Speaker 1: that they're proposing to have what's broadly been taught about
- 11:00Speaker 1: is the backpack tax and hunting fishing world, which was basically,
- 11:05Speaker 1: have people who enjoy the benefits of what we as
- 11:10Speaker 1: hunters and anglers pay for with our excise taxes through
- 11:13Speaker 1: the Pittman Robertson Act and the Dinghill Johnson Act. Um.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So what they're proposing is to have a tax on
- 11:19Speaker 1: outdoor equipment over two hundred dollars, you know in in
- 11:23Speaker 1: Washington state. No, no, no, no, two tents of one,
- 11:29Speaker 1: but you would be exempted from said tax if you show,
- 11:32Speaker 1: if you could display a hunting or fishing license. Because
- 11:36Speaker 1: there I think it's a damn good idea. Yeah, I
- 11:40Speaker 1: am completely supportive of because you've already paid ten tax
- 11:44Speaker 1: on a bunch of your equipment and so now other
- 11:46Speaker 1: people are gonna pony up and it goes into the
- 11:48Speaker 1: wildlife fund. Yeah, it's great. It's great. And in Washington,
- 11:51Speaker 1: there's a hell of a lot more people who are
- 11:53Speaker 1: enjoying looking at wildlife and just that we're just enjoying
- 11:57Speaker 1: the idea of wildlife. There's a hell of lot more
- 12:00Speaker 1: than them than there are of us. Now, I haven't
- 12:02Speaker 1: seen any polling data, but I'm gonna venture to guess
- 12:05Speaker 1: that this will not be dead on arrival. That's a
- 12:07Speaker 1: good idea. You know a thing I want to mention.
- 12:12Speaker 1: I should have mentioned it. I should have pivoted when
- 12:14Speaker 1: you guys were talking about uh, bear hooks. I just
- 12:18Speaker 1: want to throw this out because I was just we
- 12:20Speaker 1: just spent the weekend in Saint Martin, down in the
- 12:23Speaker 1: St Martin in the um, creeping for for a birthday party.
- 12:27Speaker 1: And I flew down with like hooks in a carry
- 12:30Speaker 1: on bag. But down there you cannot carry on to
- 12:35Speaker 1: a plane a fish hook, and up until very recently
- 12:39Speaker 1: in Canada you couldn't carry on your fishing, like your line,
- 12:42Speaker 1: and in Australia still you cannot carry line on because
- 12:46Speaker 1: you're gonna gear itt someone. I've had to gut reels
- 12:48Speaker 1: in airplanes. But but shoes, strings, neckties are fun. That's
- 12:53Speaker 1: like with the hook, because either are like small hooks.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I was like, the worst you could do is you
- 12:57Speaker 1: could get it in someone's clothes and then they would
- 13:00Speaker 1: be like agitated trying to get it out until yeah,
- 13:06Speaker 1: they'd find a way to crimp the bar, and then
- 13:09Speaker 1: but every already lost their leather man at t s
- 13:11Speaker 1: a check and so they wouldn't be able to crimp
- 13:12Speaker 1: the bar. And then you'd like take advantage of the
- 13:15Speaker 1: confusion and fly the plane somewhere. But I'm like, that's
- 13:19Speaker 1: the case. You shouldn't be able to bring gum on
- 13:20Speaker 1: because that ship is annoying when it gets in your
- 13:21Speaker 1: clothes too. So it's like I could forgot. They want
- 13:26Speaker 1: to know, they want to touch on is you know
- 13:28Speaker 1: how everybody knows, Like like I'm sure everyone knows the
- 13:31Speaker 1: story of the guy in Colorado not too long ago
- 13:34Speaker 1: that's strangled the mountain lion like that that that story
- 13:41Speaker 1: and no fault of the guy that did it, like
- 13:43Speaker 1: he he didn't brag it up. But that story has
- 13:45Speaker 1: gotten less and less interesting. It's now it's now that
- 13:50Speaker 1: it was a three month old, emaciated, twenty four pound
- 13:58Speaker 1: orphan mountain lion kitten. That's like the media loved that story.
- 14:06Speaker 1: If you think the lion attacked the jogger, the jogger
- 14:09Speaker 1: attacked the lion instead of the other way around, like
- 14:11Speaker 1: it's been reported. It was a kid. And again, the
- 14:13Speaker 1: dude didn't brag it up. I'm not saying he like
- 14:16Speaker 1: sold it to something that wasn't. But the story has
- 14:18Speaker 1: just and has just gotten less interesting. There's less reporting
- 14:21Speaker 1: on it. I haven't heard a word about it. Pretty
- 14:23Speaker 1: soon it's going to be that he strangled a therapy
- 14:26Speaker 1: dog rescue puppy. That's the only that's the only thing left. Uh,
- 14:35Speaker 1: you know, Uh, there's a guy and I had to
- 14:37Speaker 1: coax this out of it. At first, this guy didn't
- 14:39Speaker 1: want me to even say what stated happened in but
- 14:43Speaker 1: then then he came. He warmed up to me saying
- 14:45Speaker 1: what stated happening. But as you know, Washington um did
- 14:50Speaker 1: a very naughty thing years ago and made it that
- 14:52Speaker 1: you're you're not allowed to use hounds to pursue mountain lions,
- 14:56Speaker 1: but you still held outlines. Let's check this out. Though.
- 14:59Speaker 1: There's a dude in this state. I don't want to
- 15:01Speaker 1: say where he is, but he he's careful to say
- 15:04Speaker 1: that he did not pioneer this technique where he's been
- 15:07Speaker 1: going out here. We we exchanged some emails. He's been
- 15:10Speaker 1: going out and cutting mountain lion tracks in the snow.
- 15:13Speaker 1: So he does the same way like a houndsman does. Wait,
- 15:16Speaker 1: so the right amount of snow covers on the ground,
- 15:18Speaker 1: and he goes out and cuts a track, and he
- 15:20Speaker 1: just follows that track and wait till things look right,
- 15:23Speaker 1: and he sits down and uses a predator call, and
- 15:26Speaker 1: then he follows the track and uses the predator call.
- 15:29Speaker 1: And he just got a nice big time doing that.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Hundred sixty pounds. That's awesome, dude, that's awesome. That's a
- 15:36Speaker 1: tricky hunting man. Yeah, man, I like that guy. Yeah,
- 15:42Speaker 1: we're also working in the difficult system that you get
- 15:46Speaker 1: placed in. I remember that happening when they banned hunting
- 15:49Speaker 1: with hunt lions with hounds. So he, uh, life gave
- 15:52Speaker 1: him lemons and he made a lemonade. Lemonade out of it.
- 15:56Speaker 1: A hot tip guy roared in about this. I might
- 16:00Speaker 1: be the only guy that's gonna appreciate this. I previewed
- 16:02Speaker 1: it with you guys. Maybe you know what, how many
- 16:05Speaker 1: people in here run a stand up freezer instead of
- 16:07Speaker 1: a chest because it's a smart audience. This guy, this
- 16:14Speaker 1: guy you was writing in that you know how you
- 16:17Speaker 1: get all your stuff in there and then it all
- 16:18Speaker 1: falls out when you open the door. He buys those
- 16:21Speaker 1: spring loaded um curtain rods and crams everything in there,
- 16:26Speaker 1: and it puts a springloaded curtain rod in there to
- 16:28Speaker 1: hold his to hold the ship in there so don't
- 16:31Speaker 1: come out prevent the meat. How does he do it?
- 16:33Speaker 1: Does he hold the one arm in and then try
- 16:35Speaker 1: to adjust him. Maybe he has his wife ELTI out.
- 16:38Speaker 1: I don't know what he does. But like some people
- 16:41Speaker 1: get all excited about, like you know, the iPhone ten,
- 16:45Speaker 1: I hear ship like that, and I'm like, man, that's solid,
- 16:50Speaker 1: that's a thing. That's the real new tech. Quickly, I
- 16:54Speaker 1: want to touch on too. A guy I was chatting
- 16:57Speaker 1: with recently was talking about ice fishing, and he had
- 17:01Speaker 1: the observation that ice fishing it's just a place where
- 17:05Speaker 1: people go to do whatever they already normally do well
- 17:10Speaker 1: even better. Whereas like guys that like to talk, they
- 17:14Speaker 1: just talk better, and more guys that like to drink,
- 17:19Speaker 1: they just drink more. People like to fish fish more.
- 17:23Speaker 1: And that concerns me because that means that my kids
- 17:25Speaker 1: are only good at getting wet and cold because they
- 17:30Speaker 1: do that even more. Out there, Um northing to touch on. Honest,
- 17:35Speaker 1: we've talked about this. I'm gonna I'm gonna put it
- 17:37Speaker 1: to bed. After this, But if you don't mind, for
- 17:39Speaker 1: like the nineteenth time breaking down your advice your marriage
- 17:46Speaker 1: advice thing, because there's two final thoughts I have about it.
- 17:52Speaker 1: But but I want you to tell everybody to get
- 17:53Speaker 1: everybody up to speed. I just wish I remember to
- 17:56Speaker 1: use it as often as you asked me to tell
- 17:58Speaker 1: everybody about the advice because now, and like you, I'm
- 18:01Speaker 1: like man last week, that would have been really good
- 18:03Speaker 1: to bring up the one to ten uh scale game.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Um so I actually stole it from Wayne Dyer, who
- 18:11Speaker 1: my dad used to not really force his vast to
- 18:13Speaker 1: make us listen to Wayne Dyre tapes. Mostly I would
- 18:16Speaker 1: just fall asleep, but every now and then you pick
- 18:18Speaker 1: up something. But he's got a thing where if you're
- 18:20Speaker 1: in an argument, most arguments with spouses, um really aren't
- 18:25Speaker 1: that all that important about like like who's gonna win
- 18:28Speaker 1: it or who's gonna be right. It's just you really
- 18:30Speaker 1: just want to get through it. So his his way
- 18:33Speaker 1: to do that is to stop. And everybody assigns of
- 18:36Speaker 1: value to how important they think the argument is and
- 18:41Speaker 1: how important like having it go their way is on
- 18:44Speaker 1: a scale one to ten, and so you just stop
- 18:46Speaker 1: the argument and everybody just throws a number out there,
- 18:49Speaker 1: and so if it's a really not that important, it's
- 18:51Speaker 1: a two, you throw your two, and for the other
- 18:53Speaker 1: person they might throw it eight or nine, and you
- 18:56Speaker 1: just stop and they get to go on and and
- 18:58Speaker 1: you go of their direction, right, and it's just an
- 19:01Speaker 1: easy way to quit arguing and move on. And you
- 19:04Speaker 1: said a lot of times it's worked for you because
- 19:06Speaker 1: we've been it's been improving our marriage. Man um, I
- 19:11Speaker 1: may be honest, I make you explain this every week.
- 19:13Speaker 1: This is the last time you're gonna explain it. But
- 19:16Speaker 1: there's two thoughts that came in because people have been
- 19:19Speaker 1: writing a lot about marriage. Honest is, I don't know
- 19:21Speaker 1: what you stole from someone, but it's gonna call your thing,
- 19:24Speaker 1: your marriage savor thing. And one guy is in a
- 19:28Speaker 1: he writes him where he's in a fight with his
- 19:29Speaker 1: wife because she likes to put vinegar in the soap
- 19:34Speaker 1: in the dishwasher, and he's arguing that if if dish
- 19:38Speaker 1: soap needed vinegar, they would just put it in there
- 19:40Speaker 1: in the factory. So what's weird about it is he's like,
- 19:45Speaker 1: but the trick worked because like, I actually didn't really
- 19:49Speaker 1: care once I thought about it, and I threw a
- 19:50Speaker 1: three and she threw like a nine, so she wins.
- 19:54Speaker 1: But then he sits down and writes me a diet
- 19:57Speaker 1: tribe like this, it's blaming how stupid it is to
- 20:01Speaker 1: put vinegar and soap. Another guy rolled in about he
- 20:06Speaker 1: he didn't even get into what his fight was, but
- 20:09Speaker 1: he gets in a big fight and he's like he
- 20:11Speaker 1: wants to do Nice's trick to get out of the fight,
- 20:15Speaker 1: and he throws a two and then gets in trouble
- 20:18Speaker 1: for how little he cares. So it's like, yes, that
- 20:29Speaker 1: would absolutely be The biggest concern is underestimating somebody else's anger.
- 20:35Speaker 1: So if I think if it's a two and you
- 20:37Speaker 1: think it's a nine, I might just be digging my
- 20:39Speaker 1: hole even deeper. Were fighting about it at that point,
- 20:42Speaker 1: So you don't care ashes, Um, what else you wanna
- 20:49Speaker 1: talk about? Oh, irrational behaviors? Where this vinegar in the dishwasher? Account?
- 20:57Speaker 1: Is that? No? Because I don't really know about that.
- 21:00Speaker 1: That might be like a great idea. I don't know.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Here's a hot tip vinegar is um. I've been frying
- 21:05Speaker 1: a lot in the house lately because I got my
- 21:07Speaker 1: bitch in New hood over my stove, you know, and
- 21:11Speaker 1: I'm always blasting, I'm frying, and it's it's working, but
- 21:15Speaker 1: it's still not like completely diffusing all you know, grease,
- 21:19Speaker 1: and I think it's it is. But what we do afterwards,
- 21:23Speaker 1: or I should say, my wife Jennifer does, is um,
- 21:27Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe a cup or two of some
- 21:29Speaker 1: vinegar with a splash of lavender oil and to send
- 21:31Speaker 1: a pan and throws that on the stovetop and just
- 21:33Speaker 1: lets it simmer and kind of disappear, and that just
- 21:36Speaker 1: dials the house right back in. Yeah, very nice problem.
- 21:41Speaker 1: That will improve your marriage. Yeah, because I remember when
- 21:45Speaker 1: we used to live in a we used to live
- 21:46Speaker 1: in a small apartment and being from Michigan, I fry
- 21:48Speaker 1: a lot of fish and my wife be like, how
- 21:51Speaker 1: is it even the bath towels smell like fried fish.
- 21:57Speaker 1: That's the one thing I wouldn't want to smell like
- 22:00Speaker 1: fried fish. Yeah, you get out of the show. Everything
- 22:02Speaker 1: else is fair game. But but the irrational behavior there,
- 22:06Speaker 1: and I don't mean to be penning. This is not
- 22:07Speaker 1: like a guy for this isn't like, you know, like
- 22:10Speaker 1: a guy versus wife deal. But this is a guy
- 22:13Speaker 1: wrote in where he was complaining about just coping with
- 22:17Speaker 1: irrational things. Where he kills a deer, guts it, and
- 22:21Speaker 1: then rinses the chess cavity out with I don't know
- 22:26Speaker 1: if it was creek water or creek water. I didn't
- 22:28Speaker 1: see the actual body of water, but rinses it out
- 22:31Speaker 1: with creek water, and now she refuses to eat the
- 22:37Speaker 1: deer for fear that it has been contaminated by creek water.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And he wanted advice. I have no advice, but in
- 22:47Speaker 1: that like, in that situation, you can only point out
- 22:49Speaker 1: other activities, like like other things that seem irrational that
- 22:55Speaker 1: you need to cope with. And I think that the
- 22:57Speaker 1: reason this happens so much in the outdoor for suits,
- 23:00Speaker 1: is because you're just dealing with so many unknowns and
- 23:04Speaker 1: untested things. Right, it's just and practices to get handed
- 23:09Speaker 1: down over time, and things that aren't really you can't
- 23:12Speaker 1: replicate it in the laboratory, like certain orders you might
- 23:15Speaker 1: encounter that you could never make. So I think that
- 23:18Speaker 1: it breeds like breeds uncertainty. So do you guys feel
- 23:23Speaker 1: like have you encountered in your personal lives where you've
- 23:26Speaker 1: you've had to just live with someone else's irrational belief system.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Go ahead. My husband doesn't hunt and I am obsessed
- 23:39Speaker 1: with it, and so we are constantly we don't see
- 23:42Speaker 1: eye to eye on anything with hunting, but in particular
- 23:45Speaker 1: the range finder situation. So he thinks that a range
- 23:49Speaker 1: finder is um unethical because it's more ethical than not
- 23:53Speaker 1: know how far away it is. So it's a constant
- 23:58Speaker 1: battle arrow and guest. He needs to just come with
- 24:01Speaker 1: me so he can see what it's all about. But yeah,
- 24:02Speaker 1: so I feel like I'm just constantly bashing my head
- 24:05Speaker 1: against the wall with some of these theories and opinions. Yeah,
- 24:10Speaker 1: that's I should say, it's uninformed. But you know we
- 24:12Speaker 1: are going to later give away We're gonna play a game.
- 24:14Speaker 1: We're gonna give away a range finding binoculars. So that
- 24:17Speaker 1: was a good That was a good too nice, that
- 24:19Speaker 1: was a good. Well, I I segued off there. If
- 24:22Speaker 1: you'll notice, Sam had like irrational. I didn't come and
- 24:27Speaker 1: put with anything for this because you're not highly rational person. No,
- 24:32Speaker 1: I mean you've never you're still you're still available, not
- 24:42Speaker 1: not married, not married? Correct, you never had a relationship
- 24:45Speaker 1: that an argument came out? Okay, So what I okay? So,
- 24:48Speaker 1: so It's not that I didn't come up with anything
- 24:50Speaker 1: for this. I didn't. I didn't come up with anything
- 24:53Speaker 1: that I could say publicly to our audience of hundreds
- 24:57Speaker 1: of thousands of of listeners. There's nothing is like it's
- 25:00Speaker 1: a weird it's a weird gray or what we're talking
- 25:02Speaker 1: about here is a weird gray area of like cute
- 25:05Speaker 1: irrational where there's like crazy irrational that you just don't
- 25:09Speaker 1: really want to like air to the to the public
- 25:12Speaker 1: what it is. I don't have to tell who it is, uh,
- 25:19Speaker 1: can I can? All? Right? Okay? Are you talking about
- 25:22Speaker 1: like an ex girlfriend? Yeah? Okay, and of what like
- 25:28Speaker 1: category of what category, like what life category did the
- 25:32Speaker 1: irrational thing fall into? I don't even know which ex
- 25:37Speaker 1: girlfriend we're talking about here, but let's start off. I
- 25:39Speaker 1: feel like, let's die, let's divide the world into like
- 25:45Speaker 1: rooms of the house that way. Yeah, well, yeah, what
- 25:49Speaker 1: would be a area of one's existence that the irrational
- 25:52Speaker 1: behavior a manifest? I had an ex girlfriend who would clean,
- 25:57Speaker 1: like deep clean her apartment every week, and she would
- 26:01Speaker 1: like she would go as far as pulling everything out
- 26:03Speaker 1: of her freezer just to like scrape out the freezer
- 26:05Speaker 1: of ice. Every week I would have hung under her.
- 26:11Speaker 1: That sounds like there there's complicating circumstances. That was That
- 26:15Speaker 1: was not the reason it ended. Get her phone number.
- 26:19Speaker 1: He's like, yes, let's organized maybe, but but I'm like,
- 26:25Speaker 1: you put stuff in the freezer to like you know,
- 26:27Speaker 1: has to preserve it to hanging onto it for a while,
- 26:30Speaker 1: and like I'd stacked it full of elk. I'm like,
- 26:32Speaker 1: why are you put alling all of that out there?
- 26:33Speaker 1: It's defrosting in your fridge, in your in your sink
- 26:36Speaker 1: right now. Okay, so that's good. I found that to
- 26:39Speaker 1: be highly irrational. It is, Jimmy, Uh, I don't have
- 26:45Speaker 1: a lot to add to this. I'm I'm fortunate. I'm
- 26:48Speaker 1: fortunately hello, oh come on here. You talked me into it.
- 26:50Speaker 1: You know I didn't want to. I told him I
- 26:53Speaker 1: didn't want to talk about this. I am fortunate enough.
- 26:56Speaker 1: My significant other, who was sitting right over there, is
- 27:00Speaker 1: very rational, grounded. I find very very seldom do I
- 27:04Speaker 1: find it. Jim get called, Uh, you know things that'll
- 27:11Speaker 1: get me in a twist. I mean, she moves things around.
- 27:14Speaker 1: I can't figure out why we're always looking for things
- 27:16Speaker 1: that I know right where it's at. But in the
- 27:19Speaker 1: grand scheme of things that is a one on the
- 27:21Speaker 1: argument scale as opposed to attend. So you know, I'm
- 27:24Speaker 1: very fortunate at no, no, ideo it's not boring. It's
- 27:29Speaker 1: not boring. It's rational. As you know, it's battles. You
- 27:33Speaker 1: just chose. Well I did choose, she chose. Yeah, I'm
- 27:37Speaker 1: extremely fortunate. Let me just it's nothing. No, come on,
- 27:42Speaker 1: he's gonna come up with irrational behavior by my wife.
- 27:46Speaker 1: That's what you're asking me. There's like little things that
- 27:49Speaker 1: she does, um that I might like that might bug me,
- 27:53Speaker 1: but I wouldn't call like irrational behavior. Well, I would
- 27:56Speaker 1: like she did something like that where I don't thing
- 28:00Speaker 1: like rents a deer out with creep water and then
- 28:03Speaker 1: she was like, I'm not eating that because that water
- 28:07Speaker 1: is so much different than stuff that comes out of
- 28:08Speaker 1: the faucet. You know, it's rolling down rocks or something,
- 28:12Speaker 1: and and it's dirty. Yeah. I'd stop it at that
- 28:16Speaker 1: point and say we gotta have a conversation to see
- 28:19Speaker 1: this thing, and keep going on in my mind when
- 28:22Speaker 1: I'm talking about and my mom talking about it, be
- 28:24Speaker 1: that one day my wife caught me letting my kids
- 28:27Speaker 1: cut up pumpkins with a machete, and she feels it,
- 28:32Speaker 1: and she feels that when someone's holding a machete or
- 28:36Speaker 1: an axe or something that it's gonna, like inexplicably like
- 28:39Speaker 1: fly out of their hand, which I thought was right.
- 28:43Speaker 1: But then one day Callahan who heats holding a cleaver,
- 28:48Speaker 1: and she keeps being afraid that it's gonna fly out
- 28:50Speaker 1: of Callahan's hand, and so I feel like it's like
- 28:53Speaker 1: when she sees a large blade, she feels that it
- 28:56Speaker 1: will fly out of the user's hand. And it just
- 28:58Speaker 1: strikes me as on par with this. That's all, um.
- 29:06Speaker 1: I'm not sure if he's here or not. There's a
- 29:08Speaker 1: guy he's fishing up Narrows Park not far from here,
- 29:13Speaker 1: on the gig Harbor side Narrows Bridge, and he writes
- 29:16Speaker 1: in about how he's everyone around catching all kinds of fish.
- 29:19Speaker 1: He's not catching one. This guy here has to do
- 29:22Speaker 1: with a diving duck in the eagle. Okay, So he
- 29:27Speaker 1: finally hooks a fish and he gets all excited for
- 29:29Speaker 1: a couple of seconds until up pops a diver duck
- 29:34Speaker 1: that he has hooked, and as he's reeling it in
- 29:37Speaker 1: across the surface an eagle. I believe because the level
- 29:41Speaker 1: of detail, and eagle comes down and grabs his diver
- 29:44Speaker 1: duck off the surface. We used to have the eagles
- 29:47Speaker 1: steal our ducks when we're out duck hunting. His it
- 29:51Speaker 1: starts flying, singing drag out. He tightens his drag yanks
- 29:59Speaker 1: it and gets his duck back. It like gets it
- 30:01Speaker 1: free from the eagle is able to bring it in
- 30:05Speaker 1: and he's got a superficially hooked unhooks it and lets
- 30:09Speaker 1: the duck go on. The duck's fine. That's a fishing story.
- 30:13Speaker 1: That's a fishing story. Another guy, that's one of those
- 30:17Speaker 1: where the duck gets back to the cattails. He's like,
- 30:21Speaker 1: you guys are not gonna be doing He's just like,
- 30:28Speaker 1: don't even don't even ask what I've been up to.
- 30:34Speaker 1: That's funny because like a duck go through his whole
- 30:36Speaker 1: life and nothing really that exciting happens. Remember one time
- 30:41Speaker 1: we're yeah, one time we're up in the mountains and
- 30:43Speaker 1: we had hung up all of our you know, hung
- 30:45Speaker 1: all of our food up in a tree. Bears wouldn't
- 30:48Speaker 1: get into it. And then it's like somehow there's like
- 30:50Speaker 1: a block of cheese. It didn't get hung up in
- 30:52Speaker 1: the tree, and so my brother got up and something
- 30:55Speaker 1: kind of like tucked the block of cheese up in
- 30:58Speaker 1: a like on top of the game bag, up in
- 31:00Speaker 1: a tree. And we come back later and there's a
- 31:03Speaker 1: pine squirrel who's discovered the block of cheese, which that's
- 31:07Speaker 1: some visional only ever eaten one thing is entire life.
- 31:10Speaker 1: And then all of a sudden he finds a block
- 31:12Speaker 1: of cheese, which has to seem like really unusual. And
- 31:16Speaker 1: on top of that, two large bipedal creatures come after
- 31:21Speaker 1: and chase it through the woods. It's like one of
- 31:23Speaker 1: the rains of pores. Man, you know, because I'm out
- 31:26Speaker 1: here every day, nothing ever had before. Have you ever
- 31:30Speaker 1: this is super inappropriate, and I apologize to children in
- 31:32Speaker 1: the audience, but have you ever seen a duck's penis?
- 31:35Speaker 1: We're just talking about this yesterday. They have excitement every day.
- 31:39Speaker 1: That is. If you don't know what I'm talking about,
- 31:41Speaker 1: you need to google this. Only three percent of bird
- 31:43Speaker 1: species have one penis, yeah, because they have coecause, but
- 31:47Speaker 1: the duck has Some ducks have one longer than they are.
- 31:51Speaker 1: The spikes on No, that's the vagina. Well, yeah, there's
- 31:55Speaker 1: like a spiraled and spiked Yeah, so why why do
- 31:58Speaker 1: they have the spikes? Just I mean, I don't want
- 32:06Speaker 1: their partner to get away. I guess reason. Alright, No, No,
- 32:11Speaker 1: it's a it's a startling it's a startling thing, and
- 32:13Speaker 1: it's so funny. As we talked, we discussed this at
- 32:15Speaker 1: length last night. Um, it's serious business and and keeping
- 32:22Speaker 1: with a Pacific Northwest theme? Are you talking to me? Uh?
- 32:25Speaker 1: Pacific Northwest theme? A guy, I like the way this
- 32:28Speaker 1: thing starts. He writes in that his brother pregnancy checks.
- 32:34Speaker 1: So prag checks cows, arm up and you feel around
- 32:37Speaker 1: until it's pregnant or not. And he gets paid in salmon.
- 32:43Speaker 1: But but the salmon he gets have never been gutted,
- 32:51Speaker 1: if they're frozen gut in salmon. And he wants to
- 32:55Speaker 1: know if this is a normal thing or not. I
- 32:57Speaker 1: think that is not normal. Well, the commercial fisherman or
- 33:03Speaker 1: a recreational fisherman give them to him commercial. Yeah, and
- 33:06Speaker 1: then I'd say that's normal, not normal. When I was
- 33:10Speaker 1: when I was commercial fishing, we never gutted a salmon,
- 33:13Speaker 1: just frolle hole in game. Way. No, I mean I
- 33:20Speaker 1: don't know anybody pray checks cows. But yeah, I mean we,
- 33:23Speaker 1: I mean every every summer we catch in the scene
- 33:25Speaker 1: just gets spilled into the fish hole and freeze to
- 33:27Speaker 1: death in thirty four degree refrigerating seawater. So the processor
- 33:31Speaker 1: guts it. Yeah, so he just skips the processor. Yeah,
- 33:34Speaker 1: I mean, if you're doing if you're singing correctly, you
- 33:38Speaker 1: never touch the fish and they freeze guts in. Yeah,
- 33:42Speaker 1: no one bleeds them. Well, that's so. I mean, so
- 33:44Speaker 1: like obviously there's a lot of types of of of
- 33:47Speaker 1: commercial fishing, and like we are primarily targeting pinks um,
- 33:51Speaker 1: so it's it's like en mass. And then we pull
- 33:54Speaker 1: up alongside a tender usually like bearing sea crab boats.
- 33:58Speaker 1: They take a big crane with a vacuum pump and
- 34:02Speaker 1: swing it over, drop it in our hold and put
- 34:05Speaker 1: in a return tube and just over the course of
- 34:08Speaker 1: an hour just suck all those fish out of there.
- 34:11Speaker 1: You have to keep the water level just right. And
- 34:13Speaker 1: at the end I'd have to go down there and
- 34:15Speaker 1: hit boots and to shovel and get up in the
- 34:18Speaker 1: corners of the fish hold and and move all the fish.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Often try to like scrape them when they get frozen
- 34:24Speaker 1: up against like the refrigeration unit. It was really gross,
- 34:26Speaker 1: was my least favorite part of the job. But what
- 34:29Speaker 1: are you allowed to take fish home? Do you think
- 34:31Speaker 1: he's being lazy or do you think he's sneaking them
- 34:33Speaker 1: out without being allowed to take well, I mean I
- 34:34Speaker 1: wouldn't I wouldn't know, but I imagine, like in Washington,
- 34:37Speaker 1: it's it's either sainting or gill netting, in which case
- 34:41Speaker 1: you always deliver those fishhole to processors. And and I mean,
- 34:45Speaker 1: and you're usually freezing them as soon as you as
- 34:48Speaker 1: you catch them because you're just catching so many. I mean, like,
- 34:51Speaker 1: you know, the biggest day I ever had, we caught
- 34:53Speaker 1: seventy three pounds seventy three thousand pounds of salmon, pink
- 34:57Speaker 1: pink salmon in about two hours and the morning then
- 35:00Speaker 1: we were on limits. So it was pretty it was
- 35:03Speaker 1: pretty cool to be like, I just made three grand.
- 35:06Speaker 1: It's not even ten am yet. Yeah, that's good. Yeah.
- 35:09Speaker 1: So this dude question, though, is that what's that? Do
- 35:12Speaker 1: you know what the common like end product is for
- 35:15Speaker 1: those pinks that you I think it's dog food and
- 35:17Speaker 1: and and and yeah, and a lot of like supplements.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Um Can salmon is a good a good part of it,
- 35:24Speaker 1: the high quality stuff. But I mean they also they
- 35:28Speaker 1: also filet some pink side. Man. I wish I know, knew,
- 35:31Speaker 1: I have a lot of a lot of friends in
- 35:33Speaker 1: that industry. But um but yeah, I mean it's it's
- 35:35Speaker 1: not like it's not like showing up on fancy restaurants
- 35:40Speaker 1: for for pinks anyway. And and where kings typically get kings,
- 35:44Speaker 1: hippli get caught in um trolling you know situations or
- 35:50Speaker 1: or gill netting where they're you know, treated with a
- 35:53Speaker 1: different level of care. And and there's there's also there's
- 35:57Speaker 1: a big growth in in the kind of the it's
- 36:00Speaker 1: not farm to table, but it's like, you know, boat
- 36:03Speaker 1: to table. Actually just had a guy hit man. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:07Speaker 1: I know, I can know a couple of those guys.
- 36:09Speaker 1: And and this guy's just hit me up from Sitka
- 36:11Speaker 1: who it's all about, like, no, your fisherman and and
- 36:14Speaker 1: he like they do straight like from from the boat.
- 36:18Speaker 1: And so those guys are like catching their fish, processing
- 36:21Speaker 1: their fish, flash freezing, mailing them off. It sounds like
- 36:25Speaker 1: a giant pay in the ask to me. But it's
- 36:28Speaker 1: it's cool to see that kind of thing happens. Yeah,
- 36:31Speaker 1: this guy's word choice because I just realized he describes
- 36:33Speaker 1: these fishes whole as hell doesn't matter. And yeah, like
- 36:41Speaker 1: I know you bleed him and that makes the difference
- 36:43Speaker 1: on the quality of meat, but doesn't matter, like if
- 36:45Speaker 1: you left the guts in and freeze it and then
- 36:46Speaker 1: defrost and gut it home to He's trying to figure
- 36:49Speaker 1: out because the dude game all these fish. I think,
- 36:51Speaker 1: so I wouldn't think the guts would be polluting the
- 36:53Speaker 1: meat if it's all frozen. I think it's frozen quick.
- 36:56Speaker 1: I've got to for the whole lake trout frozen my
- 36:58Speaker 1: freezer right now. He rolls down because they throw they're
- 37:02Speaker 1: they're frozen the second we pulled them out of the
- 37:04Speaker 1: lake and uh. And then I got home and I
- 37:06Speaker 1: had to run out here, and I'm like, I don't
- 37:09Speaker 1: wanna I don't want to defrost these things so I
- 37:11Speaker 1: could gut them so I can freeze them again, because
- 37:13Speaker 1: that's gonna be even worse on the flesh to freeze
- 37:16Speaker 1: and thaw and freeze and thaw. So I did. I
- 37:19Speaker 1: did think about this for quite a while, and I
- 37:21Speaker 1: was like, you know, and I'm just gonna stick them
- 37:22Speaker 1: in the fraser. I don't have time. I've left guts
- 37:25Speaker 1: in grouse and aged them for seven days and then
- 37:29Speaker 1: ate them. Yeah, that's a big thing in Europe, man. Yeah,
- 37:32Speaker 1: I tried both. I tried with the gutting and then
- 37:34Speaker 1: as long as it's not a gut shot, I've left
- 37:36Speaker 1: the guts in and I've aged both for seven days.
- 37:38Speaker 1: I mean, it tastes cleaner if the guts have been out,
- 37:39Speaker 1: but it wasn't bad, and aged for like made all
- 37:43Speaker 1: the difference in the world. It was like cutting sushi.
- 37:44Speaker 1: When I was cutting them up, I would have a
- 37:46Speaker 1: harder time with that than fish, because well, for sure, yeah,
- 37:53Speaker 1: grouse are known for having especially weird smelling guts. I
- 37:57Speaker 1: want to get into I want to get into sam
- 38:00Speaker 1: and numbers because that's like a real thing that like
- 38:04Speaker 1: dominates the conversation around here, and it's confusing as hell,
- 38:08Speaker 1: and I'll kind of like lay out, like I pictured
- 38:09Speaker 1: like someone from Mars or some outer space planet with
- 38:16Speaker 1: just a superficial understanding of the world was listening to
- 38:21Speaker 1: the conversation. They would be confused because you have where
- 38:26Speaker 1: king salmon numbers are really low, and so people keep
- 38:31Speaker 1: proposing different things that we might do, different things we
- 38:36Speaker 1: might try to kill off or reduce in order to
- 38:40Speaker 1: up salmon numbers. So it's like, oh, we're gonna kill seagulls,
- 38:44Speaker 1: sea lions, harbor seals, what else, sawfish, cormorants. But also
- 38:52Speaker 1: like name brand, name brand sea, many big list of things,
- 38:58Speaker 1: name brand sea mammals that you reduced numbers to get
- 39:03Speaker 1: salmon numbers up. But then there's another name brand sea mammal,
- 39:08Speaker 1: killer whale or orca, which is the whole other conversation
- 39:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna tonight, I'm going with killer whale le So
- 39:15Speaker 1: killer whales are suffering from the lack of fish and
- 39:20Speaker 1: no one's proposing and they eat nothing but kings, and
- 39:23Speaker 1: to my knowledge, no one has proposed shooting them things
- 39:30Speaker 1: not since everything else is on the list. Meanwhile, and
- 39:36Speaker 1: people be like, okay, another problem with kings. And I'm
- 39:39Speaker 1: not a subject matter expert here, this is my homs race.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Like another problem that kings have is they're getting too
- 39:44Speaker 1: much competition from hatchery fish in the river, so that's
- 39:47Speaker 1: that's a concerns and in the oceans. But because the
- 39:52Speaker 1: one marine mammal is not getting enough fish, they're now
- 39:55Speaker 1: talking about putting more hatchery fish in to make sure
- 39:59Speaker 1: that that greene mammal the orca gets enough and then
- 40:04Speaker 1: we'll get rid of the other ones. Like like, is
- 40:08Speaker 1: it is it as confusing as it seems it is,
- 40:10Speaker 1: And it's like right as w DFW is kind of
- 40:13Speaker 1: finally coming around the idea that that their intensive, crazy
- 40:17Speaker 1: hatchery program has not necessarily been the greatest boon to
- 40:21Speaker 1: wild salmon and steelhead, especially steelhead. Now the governor's coming
- 40:26Speaker 1: in and telling them to start pumping out more hatchery
- 40:29Speaker 1: shin up for the whales, for the whales, So it's
- 40:32Speaker 1: it's it's just it's as complicated as all hell. I'm
- 40:35Speaker 1: not even from Mars, and I don't even understand. It's
- 40:37Speaker 1: supposed to be a band aid, not a long term solution. Yeah,
- 40:40Speaker 1: well that's like it seems, I mean, this is this
- 40:43Speaker 1: is kind of one of the areas where the conversation
- 40:45Speaker 1: about SAM gets interesting in Sam and Steelhead is because
- 40:49Speaker 1: you have like, like it's no secret what the main
- 40:51Speaker 1: problem is, the main problem being like like a system
- 40:54Speaker 1: of dams that blocks fish migration, Like it used to
- 40:57Speaker 1: take I think, you know, a fishies to be able
- 40:59Speaker 1: to go from its natal stream out to the ocean
- 41:01Speaker 1: in three days, and now it takes twenty some days
- 41:03Speaker 1: in certain river systems, and so it's exposed to so
- 41:06Speaker 1: much more predation. But they're doing badly in rivers that
- 41:09Speaker 1: don't have damns too. That's a good point. Yeah, So
- 41:12Speaker 1: it's it's it's bad timber practices, it's over harvest, it's
- 41:17Speaker 1: changing ocean condition. There's a there's a lot of damns
- 41:19Speaker 1: being definitely a primary drop. But I find that like, like,
- 41:22Speaker 1: like some people like Callahan's this way has argued this
- 41:26Speaker 1: where some people are like if you have this system,
- 41:29Speaker 1: like this large systemic problem, being like you have this
- 41:31Speaker 1: large problem with dams, and they don't want to entertain
- 41:36Speaker 1: the micro fixes. They're like, I don't want to do
- 41:39Speaker 1: I don't want to condone micro fixes because I want
- 41:42Speaker 1: to just focus on what the main problem is. To
- 41:44Speaker 1: be like, if you lost your job and had no
- 41:47Speaker 1: money and then you found a dollar on the street,
- 41:51Speaker 1: you'd pick it up, but but Colt would be like,
- 41:54Speaker 1: don't pick it up because you don't have a job.
- 41:57Speaker 1: So it's like I feel like I feel the frustration
- 42:01Speaker 1: of people who are wanting to like we we can't
- 42:03Speaker 1: control that, Like that's like a huge long term problem,
- 42:06Speaker 1: but there are small adjustments we can make and it's like,
- 42:10Speaker 1: it makes people extremely upset that you that you entertain
- 42:13Speaker 1: the idea of reducing harbor seal populations, reducing sea lion
- 42:18Speaker 1: populations in order to try to keep this thing hobbling
- 42:21Speaker 1: along while we get up the political and public will
- 42:25Speaker 1: to like actually get around to addressing the main problem. Yeah. Absolutely,
- 42:28Speaker 1: And if you look at it historically, all these things
- 42:30Speaker 1: are really closely tied together. In the territorial legislature of Washington,
- 42:35Speaker 1: it was illegal to block an Adremus fish passage that
- 42:39Speaker 1: was passed in the late eighteen hundreds UM when they
- 42:42Speaker 1: built the dams on the l law that were recently removed.
- 42:46Speaker 1: They built the lowest dam, which is some three miles
- 42:49Speaker 1: from the from tidewater, with no with no fish ladder,
- 42:53Speaker 1: no nothing, just cut it off one of the greatest
- 42:56Speaker 1: chinook runs ever known. But they made a deal that
- 43:00Speaker 1: was later codified in law that they're like, oh, we'll
- 43:02Speaker 1: just make a hatchery and solve the problem. We'll just
- 43:05Speaker 1: pump out enough fish to make up for the ones
- 43:08Speaker 1: we lost. And then that that was taken forth into
- 43:14Speaker 1: the rest of the Pacific Northwest that wherever we hose
- 43:18Speaker 1: a salmon run we just we we do Mitigation is
- 43:22Speaker 1: is I mean, it's still a word that's just thrown
- 43:25Speaker 1: around left and right. But that's where it all derives from.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Wherever we wherever we ruin a salmon run, We're just
- 43:32Speaker 1: gonna put in a hatchery and solve the problem. It's
- 43:34Speaker 1: gonna be all better. What were you guys saying, like, what,
- 43:36Speaker 1: what's the typical percentage of with steel head? What's the
- 43:40Speaker 1: percentage of steel head that are wild born and hatchery born? Man?
- 43:43Speaker 1: I was pulling number out of my ask before, but
- 43:44Speaker 1: it's probably less than a quarter anymore that are that
- 43:47Speaker 1: are like native. Like, of all the steel head that
- 43:49Speaker 1: returned to freshwater every year in Washington, I bet less
- 43:53Speaker 1: than a quarter have an out of post fun here,
- 43:55Speaker 1: not in the skin. So the Skina region has the
- 43:57Speaker 1: healthiest population of salmon in the world. The Club the
- 44:01Speaker 1: Columbia used to have the best steelhead fishery, but yeah,
- 44:04Speaker 1: we don't have any of that in the Skina. So
- 44:07Speaker 1: were you fished the steelhead or wild? Now? Do you?
- 44:10Speaker 1: Because you kind of let you like caught your teeth
- 44:12Speaker 1: as a steelhead guide and built your career off being
- 44:13Speaker 1: a steelhead guide. If you had if you had a
- 44:15Speaker 1: picture of crystal ball, how old your daughter? No? Not
- 44:18Speaker 1: not sixteen months? Sixteen months? If you if you had
- 44:22Speaker 1: to make a guess, like God's got a gun to
- 44:25Speaker 1: your head and you got to make a guess that
- 44:26Speaker 1: when she's your age, and don't don't play like what
- 44:31Speaker 1: you want to have. I think about this every day
- 44:33Speaker 1: hitting age. Will she be fishing steelhead? And you have
- 44:37Speaker 1: to get it right or else you die like that
- 44:40Speaker 1: kind of answer. So I'm thirty seven, So in thirty
- 44:44Speaker 1: six years in the skina, I think they'll be here.
- 44:50Speaker 1: I don't think they'll be here in the numbers that
- 44:52Speaker 1: they are now. I think that, I mean, they're the most,
- 44:56Speaker 1: the most resilient. I think that one of the most
- 44:59Speaker 1: resilient and will ever fish out there. But they'll definitely
- 45:02Speaker 1: be here unless less numbers. It's really scary. Have you
- 45:06Speaker 1: have you watched the decline in your own yes? And
- 45:09Speaker 1: the shifting baseline is really scary. And these people who
- 45:12Speaker 1: were fishing, you know, are they've been fishing for ten years,
- 45:14Speaker 1: say and they're like, oh, well, you know, in my
- 45:16Speaker 1: ten years, it hasn't been a major difference. But they're
- 45:19Speaker 1: just they're not They don't know what the baseline was
- 45:21Speaker 1: a hundred years ago. They and and unfortunately a lot
- 45:24Speaker 1: of people in my age group, they don't want to
- 45:26Speaker 1: learn the history, you know, or they don't want to
- 45:29Speaker 1: learn about what happened before them. So yeah, pretty terrified. Yeah.
- 45:32Speaker 1: We had a guy at one time describe the shift,
- 45:35Speaker 1: the shifting baseline thing. He called it shifting baseline syndrome.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Where but but if you don't have that, you would
- 45:42Speaker 1: lose your mind. Yeah, well, you know what we're talking about,
- 45:44Speaker 1: shifting baseline, like the your perception of the like what
- 45:48Speaker 1: our perception of like normal constantly you have too else,
- 45:51Speaker 1: but you wouldn't be able to continue being alive, you know. Yeah,
- 45:54Speaker 1: I don't know what it's going to be like in
- 45:56Speaker 1: in thirties six years honestly, Steve, I spoke to a
- 45:58Speaker 1: lot of the government biologists and they they've come over.
- 46:01Speaker 1: I don't live in Surrey anymore. You guys will live
- 46:02Speaker 1: on the Bulkley up in the skin of country and
- 46:05Speaker 1: the biologists will come to my place. And we've had,
- 46:07Speaker 1: you know, off the record chats about the fact that
- 46:10Speaker 1: these fish are not going to be here unless we
- 46:11Speaker 1: seriously put our foot down. But we have to make
- 46:14Speaker 1: some major changes, and I don't think that the sports
- 46:16Speaker 1: community or the Angland community is ready to make the changes.
- 46:20Speaker 1: What are the changes they don't want to make? Uh,
- 46:23Speaker 1: fishing for them? I mean they like the fish for him. Yeah,
- 46:28Speaker 1: have you quit? No? I mean yes and no, Like
- 46:33Speaker 1: I don't look. I don't want to look like I'm
- 46:34Speaker 1: sitting on a throne and be like, oh, yeah, I've
- 46:36Speaker 1: stopped fishing for them. Because I think everyone makes this
- 46:39Speaker 1: decision in their own time. I personally have cut back immensely.
- 46:43Speaker 1: I probably catch to steelhead a week maybe, and if
- 46:46Speaker 1: I catch us steelhead a day, I go home. But
- 46:48Speaker 1: I also understand I live on the river. I'm out
- 46:50Speaker 1: there every single day. I don't I don't expect people
- 46:53Speaker 1: to make the same decisions I do. So Um, I'm
- 46:56Speaker 1: really close to stopping, especially because more that I that
- 47:00Speaker 1: I hunt, and the more that I spend outdoors, you know,
- 47:04Speaker 1: killing animals, the more I start to question my own
- 47:06Speaker 1: reasoning for catch and release. And when you start to
- 47:10Speaker 1: question why you catch and release for me anyway, Again,
- 47:12Speaker 1: everyone makes this decision at their own time in their life.
- 47:15Speaker 1: But for me, it was, Um, I catch and release
- 47:17Speaker 1: because I'm selfish, And I'm okay being selfish to a degree.
- 47:21Speaker 1: I'm I'm a human, I'm an animal. I don't mind
- 47:23Speaker 1: being a little selfish, But um, I have to choose
- 47:25Speaker 1: the number on the scale and ask myself, you know
- 47:27Speaker 1: how important important it is to me? And when I
- 47:30Speaker 1: start feeling like I'm battling or like I'm compromising my integrity, UM,
- 47:35Speaker 1: I start to just take a step back. And That's
- 47:37Speaker 1: where I'm at now. So, UM, I feel like I'm
- 47:41Speaker 1: really selfish out there these days. You know what I
- 47:44Speaker 1: had Their day, We're fishing and we were messing around
- 47:47Speaker 1: with some tarp and and knowing that you're not gonna
- 47:51Speaker 1: do anything to it if you catch it. When it
- 47:53Speaker 1: came off, I couldn't make myself care. Yeah, because you
- 47:57Speaker 1: weren't going to do anything with it anyway, and you
- 47:59Speaker 1: don't want a photo. Was like, oh that's cool, yeah,
- 48:01Speaker 1: see you later. But when I'm out there, like, damn
- 48:04Speaker 1: cool to hook into it. Yeah, But when you're trying
- 48:05Speaker 1: to take the accomplishment, and then when it came off,
- 48:10Speaker 1: there was no disappointment. Have you landed a turpan? Though
- 48:13Speaker 1: I've hooked three miles four in my life, I've hooked one.
- 48:16Speaker 1: I really want to hold one. The first two I hooked,
- 48:21Speaker 1: I didn't even. They came out of the water and
- 48:22Speaker 1: I just I didn't even. I wasn't even fishing at
- 48:24Speaker 1: that point. I was just shocked. Um. And this last one,
- 48:28Speaker 1: I held it together for a couple of minutes. It's
- 48:31Speaker 1: it's impressive you've caught those probably yeah, uh, huntresses, it's
- 48:38Speaker 1: just hit me, hit me. So you want like you
- 48:42Speaker 1: reached out April, because you're you're gonna write, you want
- 48:44Speaker 1: to write a piece about like our use, like what
- 48:47Speaker 1: is the hunters of grandma unts? Well there are actually
- 48:52Speaker 1: well hang on, the grandmas don't have I'm right the
- 48:55Speaker 1: midle of writing this article, so I'm still accumulating my data. Um,
- 48:59Speaker 1: but the horror the huntress has actually been around for
- 49:01Speaker 1: a long like since eighteen hundreds, because by definition, a
- 49:04Speaker 1: huntress is simply a female who hunts. But the grandma
- 49:07Speaker 1: doesn't have social media, and social media is bastardizing that ship,
- 49:11Speaker 1: like it's really bad. Well, I don't have enough because
- 49:19Speaker 1: like fisherman is more problematic. Well, hang on, hang on,
- 49:22Speaker 1: hang on, my art I don't have an argument because
- 49:25Speaker 1: we're I don't know, I know you don't have an argument,
- 49:27Speaker 1: but I'm dying to get to the part of just
- 49:30Speaker 1: go ahead. Well, you're putting me on the spot because
- 49:32Speaker 1: I haven't actually written the article yet, so I haven't
- 49:34Speaker 1: come up with a conclusion write it. You can't write
- 49:37Speaker 1: until you think it, and I think about it all
- 49:38Speaker 1: the time. I am I am by definition a huntress,
- 49:42Speaker 1: I guess, yeah, But I don't call myself a huntress
- 49:45Speaker 1: because I don't identify with the modern day use of
- 49:48Speaker 1: the word today because temptress, stress, like all these stresses
- 49:54Speaker 1: are very sexualized and mistress and look a mistress. I
- 49:58Speaker 1: don't know it, just it just sounds sexy. And I
- 50:01Speaker 1: think there was like a comic book series with like
- 50:03Speaker 1: Huntress or something like that. And again I haven't I'm
- 50:06Speaker 1: right in the middle. He just threw me under the bus,
- 50:08Speaker 1: by the way. Um, but yeah, I just I I
- 50:11Speaker 1: think that hunter is so gender neutral. And we're talking
- 50:15Speaker 1: about this earlier. We're in this fox up excuse me
- 50:18Speaker 1: age where there's all of this, Like I don't even
- 50:21Speaker 1: know how to talk politically correct anymore, because everybody is
- 50:24Speaker 1: affected by something. No I'm talking now, but like I
- 50:27Speaker 1: just mean, I mean in in in general. In general,
- 50:34Speaker 1: it's so hard to refer to different people about what
- 50:37Speaker 1: they are because you don't even know what people's gender is.
- 50:39Speaker 1: So my point is is in today's age, in today's age,
- 50:44Speaker 1: we do we have this word that is so beautifully simple, right,
- 50:50Speaker 1: like you hunt and you are a hunter. It's not
- 50:53Speaker 1: a hunterman or a hunter hunter woman. You are a hunter.
- 50:56Speaker 1: Like we have the most perfect package of a word,
- 50:59Speaker 1: and it's still not good enough. Like I just give up. Yeah,
- 51:02Speaker 1: like when even when when one's working, it's no good.
- 51:05Speaker 1: The reason I threw you under the you know, the
- 51:07Speaker 1: reason I brought u up is someone actually rolled in.
- 51:09Speaker 1: I don't know if you saw this, but someone rolled in,
- 51:11Speaker 1: like here's a question for April that they wanted to
- 51:14Speaker 1: be answered tonight. But it's not this one, but one
- 51:17Speaker 1: that made me think of this one because this person
- 51:19Speaker 1: was recently at what do they put it, They're at
- 51:21Speaker 1: an orientation event at a college in eastern Washington, and
- 51:24Speaker 1: it was like the person addressing the crowd, what what
- 51:29Speaker 1: was trying to it seemed to be I'm paraphrasing. It
- 51:33Speaker 1: seemed to be that their tendency was to say you guys,
- 51:36Speaker 1: you guys. But they had switched to you all, and
- 51:41Speaker 1: so the person was one of like, like, does do
- 51:44Speaker 1: you the person is asking you, like, do you take
- 51:47Speaker 1: offense by something me saying you guys to you because
- 51:53Speaker 1: you all is y'all is not politically correct. I mean
- 51:58Speaker 1: not only they came up with y'all as like a
- 52:00Speaker 1: gender neutral turn. No, they didn't. Uman. I know it's
- 52:03Speaker 1: not offensive, but I don't know. I honestly can't relate
- 52:06Speaker 1: to a lot of the people who are offended by
- 52:08Speaker 1: that stuff today. I just don't. I don't understand the
- 52:10Speaker 1: thought process. Have you guys read the subtle art of
- 52:12Speaker 1: not giving a fuck? No? Read it? It's awesome? Yeah?
- 52:18Speaker 1: Do you? Um does fisherman? Does fishermen bother you? I know?
- 52:23Speaker 1: But I get it. I do get it. Like I
- 52:25Speaker 1: understand if someone wants to call me an angler and
- 52:27Speaker 1: that makes everyone more comfortable, that's cool. But again, angler,
- 52:30Speaker 1: I'm not going to be like an Anglish English anxtress.
- 52:34Speaker 1: What is it like a fish stress? If you call
- 52:36Speaker 1: me a fishtress? Siss. One of the things that I
- 52:39Speaker 1: asked all these women. I reached out to twenty different
- 52:41Speaker 1: women from from spear fishing, hunting, and fishing all age groups.
- 52:46Speaker 1: I interviewed the woman who fishing bikinis and you know,
- 52:49Speaker 1: the woman who would never who don't even own a bikini,
- 52:52Speaker 1: and I asked them, you know, what is it? I
- 52:59Speaker 1: asked on what the fish version is? And there is
- 53:02Speaker 1: no fish version of a huntress. I mean some angler
- 53:06Speaker 1: angling women will call themselves a huntress. But um. And
- 53:09Speaker 1: then actually, I interviewed as a sixty year old female
- 53:12Speaker 1: angler and she says she doesn't like being identified as
- 53:15Speaker 1: a fisherman or a an angler because she said it
- 53:19Speaker 1: made her feel like she didn't have a vagina, so
- 53:21Speaker 1: she likes to be called I know, but I can't.
- 53:24Speaker 1: I can't really want to be a fisher woman. And
- 53:28Speaker 1: as a sixth year old woman who is my senior,
- 53:30Speaker 1: like I'm, I'm I respect her opinion. Um, but no
- 53:34Speaker 1: fisherman doesn't offend me or or any of my girlfriends
- 53:37Speaker 1: who are are really into it. That's why I like
- 53:40Speaker 1: if i'm when I'm depending on the audience, like I'll
- 53:42Speaker 1: be writing and I'll catch myself to be inclusive. I'll
- 53:47Speaker 1: catch myself using hunters and anglers, which is still really clear,
- 53:52Speaker 1: Like we're not pioneering new words. We're using words that
- 53:55Speaker 1: have an accepted meaning, and it's not clunky. It's not
- 53:58Speaker 1: like clunky to say hunters and anglers. And I was
- 54:01Speaker 1: doing a story not long ago for Outside magazine and
- 54:04Speaker 1: they were saying, is there what's a way to say
- 54:07Speaker 1: sportsmen and people have it's it's clunky, it's sportsmen and women,
- 54:15Speaker 1: which I get the sentiment, but it just like if
- 54:17Speaker 1: it doesn't reflect a natural way of talking. Sportsmen sounds
- 54:21Speaker 1: like sportsmen to me. I don't know, but it's hard
- 54:25Speaker 1: because like human human, human whatever, we're not going to
- 54:29Speaker 1: introduce it as like huge humankind mankind. I don't know
- 54:34Speaker 1: how they I don't know how they fix that sports
- 54:37Speaker 1: people sports No, it's I think that the accepted one
- 54:40Speaker 1: now is sportsmen and women. But a problem and like
- 54:43Speaker 1: everyone's favorite topic is the bitch about PC stuff, which
- 54:46Speaker 1: like I understand, but like a problem with it. I
- 54:49Speaker 1: think a problem that's coming into culturally with word choice
- 54:53Speaker 1: is people are now measuring people. People are not measuring
- 54:57Speaker 1: one someone's moralities, some world someone's worldview only on the
- 55:03Speaker 1: only on the words that like on the his the
- 55:06Speaker 1: words of the use of historic words that come out
- 55:08Speaker 1: of their mouth, and not anything about like what the
- 55:10Speaker 1: the overall content that, like what they're trying to say
- 55:14Speaker 1: doesn't matter, that the some package of what you're saying
- 55:17Speaker 1: doesn't matter. It's just they're like listening for the wrong
- 55:20Speaker 1: little thing that comes out of your mouth to condemn
- 55:23Speaker 1: that rather than like the gist of what you're getting at.
- 55:27Speaker 1: And I think that like that's the thing that winds
- 55:29Speaker 1: up making me uneasy about this. But I do do now.
- 55:32Speaker 1: I just say hunters and anglers because I like, in
- 55:34Speaker 1: my heart there's like an inclusivity. But but then at
- 55:37Speaker 1: the same time, I don't like things that that sound weird.
- 55:41Speaker 1: Whoever said it had to be gender specific? I mean
- 55:44Speaker 1: that was the when I call somebody a fisherman, that
- 55:47Speaker 1: means that guy's a fisherman, that guy knows what timing
- 55:50Speaker 1: is that, or that woman is a hunter, like she
- 55:53Speaker 1: knows what she's new, and it's like it's a term
- 55:56Speaker 1: of like it's sugar. I lost my train of thought. Yeah,
- 56:03Speaker 1: I hear you, man, And to me, it's like unnecessarily divisive.
- 56:07Speaker 1: It's like it's like it's like I'm stoked that that
- 56:10Speaker 1: hunters are female. Hunters are the largest like grow like
- 56:15Speaker 1: there's more the more growth in that than any other
- 56:17Speaker 1: demographic within hunting in the last recent decades. That's awesome.
- 56:21Speaker 1: I'm glad. I'm glad to see that. But but but
- 56:24Speaker 1: why why why do you want to be doing something different,
- 56:26Speaker 1: Like why do you want to go out like huntressing.
- 56:28Speaker 1: Why can't you just come hunting with the rest of us.
- 56:31Speaker 1: It's like, it's just it's it feels like it's drawing
- 56:34Speaker 1: lines when they're like trying to be kind of like
- 56:37Speaker 1: if women are trying to get in, trying to become
- 56:38Speaker 1: of the part of the community, like join the community,
- 56:41Speaker 1: like be part of be part of the club, don't
- 56:42Speaker 1: like have your own thing. It's but the battle you
- 56:45Speaker 1: get is the woman and then we'll drop it. But
- 56:47Speaker 1: the battle you get is the woman. I'm hearing from
- 56:49Speaker 1: who enjoy the word huntress are badass? Like or again
- 56:54Speaker 1: you never know that they call themselves huntresses. But they've
- 56:57Speaker 1: identified with that word for forty years because the word
- 57:01Speaker 1: has been around for a lot a long time. Um,
- 57:03Speaker 1: so it's hard to strip that from them. I get it.
- 57:05Speaker 1: And I know badass female hunters who who love that word.
- 57:10Speaker 1: I know this, this girl who hunts with a long
- 57:12Speaker 1: bow and kills deer and Elk every year, and and
- 57:15Speaker 1: I heard her read a poem about how her like
- 57:18Speaker 1: her huntress heart and stuff. But every time she says that,
- 57:21Speaker 1: I just cringe a little bit. I'm like, I just
- 57:22Speaker 1: don't really that word, like I could be convinced otherwise.
- 57:26Speaker 1: I'm excited to read the story. I'm excited to write
- 57:28Speaker 1: the story. Got to write it before you read it.
- 57:30Speaker 1: But I feel like, now you've got a lot of material,
- 57:32Speaker 1: already had a lot of material before you threw me
- 57:34Speaker 1: under the bus. I want to get into this thing
- 57:37Speaker 1: that that's come up in New York. It's the Assembly Bill.
- 57:40Speaker 1: It's got an exciting name, a O seven to two,
- 57:44Speaker 1: which does this, it's interesting, provides that it shall be unlawful.
- 57:48Speaker 1: So this is in the state of New York, far
- 57:50Speaker 1: away but large, you know, continent and everything. Um, it
- 57:54Speaker 1: should be unlawful for any person to organize, sponsor, conduct, promote,
- 57:58Speaker 1: or participate in the contest, competition, tournament, or derby where
- 58:04Speaker 1: the objective of such contest or competition is to take wildlife.
- 58:09Speaker 1: So it would be illegal to have a salmon, illegal
- 58:14Speaker 1: to have a salmon derby, illegal to have screl hunting
- 58:21Speaker 1: about all these people competing for follows on Instagram? Is
- 58:24Speaker 1: that technically illegal? Yeah? The pointing to kill social media right, Well,
- 58:29Speaker 1: what I brought up is my dad and I always
- 58:31Speaker 1: used to play a game first biggest, most dollar a
- 58:35Speaker 1: category and I love that when I was a kid, like,
- 58:39Speaker 1: you know, maybe work harder when we're out fishing, and
- 58:43Speaker 1: would charitable fundraisers three bucks between a dad and his son. Yeah,
- 58:50Speaker 1: but like all the charitable fundraisers that are run as Derby's.
- 58:53Speaker 1: But I know what they're gunning for. They just it's
- 58:56Speaker 1: a it's a sloppily written law. What they're gunning for
- 58:59Speaker 1: is like you know, the current like the enemy do
- 59:02Speaker 1: your which is like kyote un kyote contests, and then
- 59:06Speaker 1: there I think also like shark tournaments. Well there there
- 59:09Speaker 1: there's legislation in New Mexico right now that's more narrowly
- 59:13Speaker 1: tailored than that that's specifically going after kyote hunts, I believe.
- 59:18Speaker 1: But in New York they're just like all of it.
- 59:21Speaker 1: Two dudes, I bet you I catch a bigger perch. No,
- 59:24Speaker 1: you don't know. It's well that that whole that whole
- 59:30Speaker 1: squirrel hunt debacle in New Jersey. Did you do you
- 59:33Speaker 1: see this at least that spend your new heart. Yea,
- 59:35Speaker 1: you guys already talked about that. Yeah, that was wild,
- 59:37Speaker 1: like the just like seeing the news coverage of that
- 59:40Speaker 1: and seeing all the signs that people had, like lining
- 59:44Speaker 1: the road because there's some times as many protesters as
- 59:47Speaker 1: there were people doing it was like a kid's family thing,
- 59:50Speaker 1: like get everybody out hunting and stuff. And there was
- 59:52Speaker 1: some vicious shit about about hunters that I got hard
- 59:58Speaker 1: hard even to repeat when years ago, Like the first
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: the first assignment I did for for Outside and I
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: begin writing for them years ago, is to cover a
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: shark tournament in New York called Mako Madness, And I
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: interviewed a proponent of Mako Madness, and he was just
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: saying that, sorry, an opponent, he didn't didn't like the tournaments.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: And his take was I don't like applying a carnival
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: atmosphere to like the killing of game, which was his perspective. Yeah,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: but he wasn't a fisherman, right, he was a fisherman,
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: he was. That's interesting. Yeah, so he actually served me
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: some mako shark okay, okay, Well that's interesting then, because
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: I feel like there's a there's a deeper conversation we
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: had there because I've always been kind of uncomfortable with
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: like bass Master Classic and that kind of that thing,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: that kind of thing, because I think fishing is is
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: is it's kind of a spiritual activity, at least to me.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: It's it's like where you go to find peace and
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: calm and quiet and really, you know, work on your
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: thoughts and your life philosophy and deal with things and
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: be with friends and commune with nature. And and to
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: see people putting a two hundred horse outboard on the
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: back of a sixteen foot boat that's covered in glitter
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: and it I mean, I mean when I was a
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: kid and when I was eight, if you'd ask me
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: what are you gonna do with your life? I would
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: have said professional bass fishermen. But they're not hurting the resource.
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: They're not hurting the resource, and it's all catch or
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: at least I mean the way they hold the bass
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: by the lip and crank their neck like there's some science,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: new science out that's saying that's not the best handling practices.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: That's not my that's not my issue. But the carnival thing,
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: like I mean that that resonates on some level that
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: that to to put like an unnecessary just competitive car. Yeah,
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: just it's just so, it's just it's also seems so
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: loud and loudness to it. But I still opposed, like
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: I opposed the limits. I opposed the drictions because I'm
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: always looking at when when I think about something like this,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: I'm aways looking at like what is the end game?
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: What is the end game of the person pushing for it?
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: And I think that I think I don't agree with
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: their end game, and so no more fun. Yeah, well,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: I I disagree with the unintended consequences, perhaps more because
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: I mean, are they gonna ban like the little cute
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: trout Derby's they do in Central Park? Yes, yeah, exactly,
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: Like who's that hurting? You're not even you can't promote it,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: so you can't even staple the sign to a tree
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: anymore about it. Um, here's a question for someone, Dan Curtis,
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: he's here tonight, his wife Grace. They got a question.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: It was a long question. I'm trimming it down to
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: a line. Uh, what is the level of etiquette that
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: a hunter should expect upon gifting prime time meet to someone?
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Prime time like high quality? Mine is high? Like I
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: expect like like when I give something. If I give
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: someone the gift of fisher fishing game, I have very
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: like for them to please me. I need to see
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: a high level of care and then you see prompt use.
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: And that was one of the nicest things when I
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: was living here and Magnolia. I had my neighbor on
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: that side, my neighbor on that side, and my neighbor
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: across from me, and I gave them all a lot
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: of fishing game and they all cooked it real quick like,
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: and it would share with me, sometimes even with photographs,
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: what they had done with it. And then I would
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: the next day bring them more stuff like I would.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: I would constantly bring stuff over to these guys because
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: I was seeing that return. If you give something and
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: you find in their freezer six months later, I've taken
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: it back. I I was just up at my parents house.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: My Hi Mom, Hi Dad, And I want you to
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: know that I've started to check your freeze or and
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: I see that you still have some of my elk,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: and so I'm instituting a rule that I'm not giving
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: anymore until I find that it's depleted. You got it,
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: And she sends me great photos of of the and
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: she's an amazing uh pastry chef and does really cool
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: stuff with it and sends me snapchats or whatever the
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: whole process, and I love that. I think that's a
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: great feedback loop that i'd encourage people to implement. I
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: scored a really good hunt permission one time where a
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: guy let me on his place, his farm, and I
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: just asked, can I hunt squirrels on your farm? No
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: one else was hunt squirrels. And I got some squirrels
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: and went home and made dinner with the squirrels and
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: texted him a picture of what I made with his squirrels.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: He texted me back that I can hunt deer and
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: elk on his place or deer in Turkey's on his place. Yeah,
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: he was so impressive. People like to see it. That's
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: all it takes. How to score your next deer hunting permission?
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: Right there, Steven Ronnellae that squirrel and he'll let you
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: hunt in his place. Yeah. I was gonna say if
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: I like I get some meat recently to some folks,
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: and um, I haven't heard back from them, but it
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: got me thinking because I was gonna ask him next
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: time I run into him. You know what you do
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: how was it whatever? Because recently I did that with
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: some other folks that had given me too, maybe six
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: months ago, and I was like, hey, what did you
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: do with the hall of it some hollibd that you've
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: given me? And uh, I got the answer like, yeah,
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: we ate it. I was like, you just say that
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: that's all you got for me, and it's kind of
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: in my mind, I was like, it's good you tell
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: the story that way because that better reflects. That better
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: reflects what the question was, because the question was about
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: a gift and there was no you know, like, so
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: how was it? There was no you wanted the person
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: to be like this, but wait a second, so you
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: regifted his halibut though, yeah, so how do you feel
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: on your healibet? Well, if I gave that's fine. I
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: just I only care about the end. If I gave
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: someone something and then they gave it to someone and
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: that person came and was like this to me, that's great.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: It's just knowing that because in my mind, I'm doing
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: people just a normal good turn, but I'm also doing
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: like I'm also trying to like publicly elevate the status
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: of the resource so that people will look at the
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: water and look look at the mountain or whatever, and
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: they'll be like, Oh, there's that thing, this thing, this giant,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: beautiful thing that produced this wonderful thing that I ate,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: and therefore I recognize the value of the of the
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: producing habitat. I'm kind of getting at and I'm also
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: kind of trying to be like a nice dude, but yeah,
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: like bringing up like elevating the resources, elevating the things
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: that promote the resources, and so I don't give a
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: ship who in the end wise though, having it another question,
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: and this is like a really like you and I
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: talked to April. You and I talked about this one
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: a lot a long time ago. But this is this
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: is a good This is an ethics conundrum where someone
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: don't don't what's that thing like, don't like killing the messenger.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: I'm reading up this, I'm paraphrasing A thing of dude
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: is saying how the pursuit of white tales with a
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: bow is one of the only times and inferior implement
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: is considered morally superior. Using a spear would be further
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: inferior and difficult. But there are very few advocating the
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: moral purity of spear hunting. That's like a very legitimate point.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: It's like people feel great about using a bow but
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: not a gun. But and if you use a spear,
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: you lose all your sponsorships. Remember that dude that Yeah,
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: that's what people didn't celebrate him. It was. So it's
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: like rifle, this kind of moral um bow, this kind
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: of moral spear. It's confusing. That's always confusing some states.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: And he's not done. He's not done. Likewise, a person
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: could choose to commute in a model T or hand
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: saw lumber for a home construction project. Making those choices
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: would certainly make the tasks more arduous, But I doubt
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: anyone considers the Model T commuter stuck in the Lincoln
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: Tunnel to morally superior to those in air conditioned cars.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Choosing a weapon which increases the perceived personal reward level
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: for the hunter at the expense of a quick, in
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: humane kill is a dreadful, selfish act. His words. Let
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: the hunt be challenging, Let the train be difficult, the
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: game reclusive and wary, the location parallel, perilous to access,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: add difficult to do the hunt in places where the
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: quick dispatch of an animal doesn't hang in the balance.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: When it comes time to complete the most important task
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: of hunting, choosing a weapon with the highest likelihood of
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: an ethical and immediate kill is the highest moral ground.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: So what's the question? I like this guy. The question is, uh,
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: you would express this to me before I had questioned you,
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: before you question about it. I'm just wondering where you're
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: at on it, because that like a say yeah, I
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: put I hold like I struggle with how to. I
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: know that I can tear his argument down. I just
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: know that it's it's hard to do it. Look, I'm
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: do it a minute. Do you want it? I'm gonna
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: try go for it. I want you to go first. Well,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: I had asked Steve when I had Steve on my show,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: I had asked Steve if it was more ethical to
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: kill with a bow or a gun, because I hear
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: conflicting reports and I've only been hunting for I don't
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: know four years, So for me, I was hearing all
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: sorts of different reports, and a lot of people were
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: telling me that a bow was more humane, and um,
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: the more I looked into it, the more I was
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: finding that's actually kind of a gray area. So no,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: it's not a gray area. Well, do you think that
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: they like look at capital punishment? Do you feel that
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: you could you imagine a situation where the administered capital
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: punishment with archery equipment, right, yeah, yeah, yeah, they use
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: those guillotine broadheads, like a big nine inch cutting blade guillotine. Bro. So,
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: since leaving you and and looking more into it, like
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: this year I went out with a gun. I was
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: going to fully try to get one with a gun.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: I get stuck in limited situations when a when I've
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: got my baby on my back, I'm obviously stuck with
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: a bow. I'm not going to take a shot with
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: her on my back with a gun. And um, some
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: of the properties that I hunt like in Australia especially,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: I can't have a gun, so I'm limited to the
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: bow and same with obviously different seasons. But if I
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: can take an for me, I wanted to be the
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: most most ethical shot possible. I know we had this conversation,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: you said, the animal doesn't care. You know it's going
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: to die. But I would like to get as close
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: to the animal as possible, so I know I'm making
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: the most accurate shot as possible. I don't care if
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: it's a gun or a bow, but I need to
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: know it's the most humane shot that I can make
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: given my situation, whether I've got the baby or whether
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: I've got um property access. Like when I think about
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: the question, I think about why, Like I see what
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: he's getting at is the only thing about I think
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: that he's um. He's stripping this like really complicated thing
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: down to a simple thing, because like taking something that
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: has many inputs and considerations and acting like the one
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: consideration is like is how quickly one can administer death
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: to this thing you're trying to hunt for? And it's
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: like I guess you, I guess. Just to give a
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: really honest answer about it, is I have a lot
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: of other factors that I'm considering in and you also
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: have you also have like resource level things where the
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: lack of efficacy if like if bows, if a bow
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: is less less effective than a gun, the lack of
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: efficacy allows more people to participate in the activity. That's
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: why in so many places you can get an over
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: to everybody that wants can go archery hunting for something,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: but every thebody that wants can't go rifle hunting for
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: something is because the efficacy does it so if we
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: were really going to play the game to the end,
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: it would probably be that you had to put out
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: like a specific bait laced with um like lace with
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: a sleeping agent in a poison. If you're really if
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: the only goal was always like if the only thing
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: that hunters cared about was just like administering death as
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: quickly as possible, you'd use grenade launcher, you know what
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: I'm saying. So it's like if you no, I'm saying,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: if you're gonna chase that, if that's gonna be the
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: only thing you care about, the only thing you chase.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: I don't know that we've really arrived at the right answer,
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: because it's just more complicated. And I do think that,
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: like if you factor in that that if you hit
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: someone with a bow and you get a shot and
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: you double along it, it has enough time to go
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: twenty yards and die, or it falls over and dies
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: much more quickly. UM. I think that hunting is like that,
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: there's a selfish act. What you're like, you're doing a
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: thing for a bunch of personal reasons, and in in
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: the reward one gets for doing it in a in
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: a way like a difficult way, like a bow and
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: the amount of discipline and skill that it takes. It's
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: it's a it's a cold calculation, but maybe that reward
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: that one feels outweighs that three seconds of right like
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: that gain for you and your calculus outweighs the three
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: seconds of stress that the thing has as it crosses
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: the stage and dies over there. Maybe for some people,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: not for me. I would take any weapon then I
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: feel I can get the job done with most efficiently
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: fastest I just have. I started with a bow and
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: it just kind of stuck from there. First gun I
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: really shot, was it your house is right? Yeah? I
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: still shot that motherfucker in your backyard. That's good. N
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: I don't know when hunt became like morally better? People
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: act like it's way more you say people. You say people,
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: but what people are? They all name names, I know,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: but they're like a group or like can you break
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: it down? And I feel like it was just a
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: piece in the wall street That's what I'm hearing. And
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: Sam just hit it on the head. And same reason
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: with why I started with the bow hunting is that
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: I was everybody would be like or people I would
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: meet be like, oh yeah, Hunt, But I'm a bow hunter,
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: so as a non hunter someone looking to get into it,
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: I kept hearing this and I thought, well, that's just
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: I mean, it's the rednecks who shoot guns. And I
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: heard someone just say fly fisherman and that that is
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: for me. It was a lot of that. A lot
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: of these fly fishermen were getting into or into bow hunting,
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: and they would they would say that there were parallels
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: and that it was the equivalent to fly fishing. Um,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: And they just made it sound like it was more ethical.
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: And that's why I asked you, is it more ethical?
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: Because these bow hunters were saying to me, yeah, you
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: don't interrupt the environment, you know with the sound, which
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: is ridiculous because I was bow hunting all fall and
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: I could hear guns everywhere, like it didn't didn't make
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: a difference where I was. Um. But the more I
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: think about just the I just I don't know, I
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: don't see how it is more ethical. Can you guys
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: prove me? Theoretically? Leveling the playing fields somehow doing people
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: that don't hunt, or they're like, oh, you're giving them
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: you know, Oh well I had to sneak up instead
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: of just you know, you've got guys now eight yards away,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: and you know the whole people, you know, non hunters.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: You know, I live in Seattle, I'm surrounded by him.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: You know, there's lots of ways to pass judgment, but
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: it's an easier way to gain some sort of you know,
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: legitimacy to it being it's like, well, it's hard, you know,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: it's it's hard. Is hard. Let's be straight. It's not
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: harder for me to hard to worry about hard ethical
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: Hard is not ethical. It's two different things that you're asking.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: The question is to why it's relevant. Yeah, and and
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: and it is. It is a lot of non I
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: think this bring that forward. And I also think that
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: like new hunters to like, I've had a lot of
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: my friends who have got into hunting in their late
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: twenties early thirties, and it's been fascinating to me to
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: see the issues they have to wrestle with that have never,
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: you know, never never bothered me. Like you know that,
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: Like you know, I I grew up like like shoulder
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: deep in salmon guts and and and you know, bonking
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: fish on the head and and helping put your deer
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: and and all that. So like the death part has
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: never you know it. I think I kind of walked
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: walked over that threshold before I had quite the mental
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: capacity to really wrestle with it. So it's always felt
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: very natural. But people who are coming into it later
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: really have to surpass some of these difficult questions, like
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: how they feel about taking a life just for the
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: sake of sport and sustaining their own life. And I
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: think some people, I think a lot of people feel
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: better about that if it feels more fair to them.
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: And what I always say is rifle hunting for ELK
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: is plenty fair. Like I mean, in Washington, it's gonna
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: be less than ten percent of people who buy an
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: ELK down matter where successful. Yeah, absolutely so. I'm like,
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: if you want to be hard, only walk backward, Like
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: only walk backward with a rifle is really challenging, Yeah,
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: Or be responsible rifle hunter, like like you guys do.
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: Like a rule you guys have that I've adopted of
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: not taking shots past four hundred. I mean, I haven't
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: taken a shot past three hundred and long in long,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: long time. It's just a close in the gap. That's
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: all it was for me, was closing the gap. I
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: still if I have a gun in my hand, would
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: rather get closer? Sure? Yeah, just for me, It's all
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: about closing the gap. It's the fun part. Okay. If
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: you could, uh, if you could snap your fingers and
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: automatically be an absolute master of one hunting and fishing skill.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: What would the skill be? Sneaking up on stuff? Okay? Yeah?
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: Figuring out how to stay quiet, keep my heart rate
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: under control, just like deep breath, see what I'm doing,
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: get the wind right, not let my the excitement of
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: the moment, just taking that deep breath and figuring out,
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: all right, the winds this way. I need to go
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: this way like my once I can because I have
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: good notes, I can like once I'm in it, all
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: of a sudden, my old game plan in every magazine
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: or book or podcast, the thing that I've read goes
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: out the window, and it's like my heart rates at
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: like one forty and I'm like, you know, and then
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: you're trying to do everything correctly. Yeah, if I could
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: just stay calm for a minute, that would be mine.
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: Are you hip to guys who have been using beta
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: blockers to do that? Well? Define beta blockers. I've pretty
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: much tried everything. No, it's like, what the hell is it.
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: It's like it's like a medication. People take the medication
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: for some reasons then find that they don't get buck
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: fever anymore. Yeah, and like you're not like there's it's
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: a band substance. Like people that shoot, uh competitive pistol
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: shooting and stuff, they can't use beta blockers calms you
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: down too much. Maybe I should look into beta blockers. Yeah,
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: guys talk about get no. Dudes say that their doctor
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: would put them on a beta blocker. And also they
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: realized that when a buck comes in, they don't get
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: panicky as panicky. I don't get panicky. I just get
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: you know, in the moment you're there. I just li
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: show wasn't better right if one skill quiet and just
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: quiet as a generality, mentally quiet, mentally quiet, and then
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: also just to be able to read this sick of
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: the circumstance. I think the one thing that like the
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: thing that I missed out on is um it was
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: lazy about is all forms of calling because I've always
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: was for whatever reason, uh would be with someone who
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: is better at it than me and then let them
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: be the one that did it. And that went on
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: and on and on that went on and on and
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: on and now here I'm in like my forties and
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: I've always like my early when I was a little kid,
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: my lollard Danny was a really good caller, So we
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: hunt a dugs. He is called to shut up because
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: Danny was good at it, and then like you know,
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: hunting out with the honest. Honest is a great caller,
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: so he just calls um and yeah, missing out on
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: like like that that and it's never too late, but
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: that that I didn't cultivate that skill and I'm only
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: now just like a you know, getting better at it.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: Well I kind of suck at it. I mean I
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: make up for it in other ways a little bit.
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: But yeah, that was that's been a real miss man.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: Like I'm I'm sorry interrupt, But the process is fun.
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: I mean I get this game, and I enjoy playing
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: the game and just throwing out something that we could
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: just like not have to learn and experience to get better.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: But like if we're not sitting here saying that we
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: don't enjoy like going through learning buck fever and how
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: to you know, get over it and learning calls for
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, we've been at it for twenty years
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: now of like was freaking latex and glue in our mouths.
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: Just yeah, you know, is over and over and over
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: and and but like you got to enjoy that, that
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: not being good and becoming good. I think that process right, Yeah,
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: I think the journey was seemed hard for me. You
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: know that's my regret. You didn't enjoy it? No, I
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: didn't enjoy it. Yeah. I if I could and snap
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: my fingers, become a master or something, I improve my
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: my archery shot I've been doing. I've been doing an
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: archery league at that little shop down the street from
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: the office, and god have been a mess, Like because
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: I archery practice has always been like a solitary thing
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: for me. I'd like you shoot my backyard growing up,
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: or go out to the range and zula by myself.
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: But shooting with the last week they had like a
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: they had like a steel barrel on a swivel that
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: would like go around to both ends were cut off
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: and it would like it wasn't it wasn't like a
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: slow spit. Oh my god. It threw me to what
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: the hell is that supposed to teach you? But I don't,
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: I don't know, like as like an elk passes through
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: the gap like yeah, yeah, exactly, yeah, But I mean
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: having a bunch of people around and like, you know,
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: coming into it cold. Like the first day I rolled
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: up and I was already late. Everybody had started, and
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: I like, pull out my bow and get ready. I'm like, oh,
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: all broadheads great, and one still has elk long all
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: over it. Um, And so it's just I just, uh, yeah,
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: I could do so much to be a better bosh.
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: I've been doing it for fifteen years, and I still
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: feel like I have a long ways to go to
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: reach that, you know, those that ten thousand hours or
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: reach mastery. Uh. One last thing I want to touch
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: on and then we're gonna play our game. Oh you
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: just did it. Did you know? What was my thing
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: that I was going to become? The process of column
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: I was just enjoying. You can go three times. I
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: don't care. He wants some master enjoying the process of
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: learning things. Oh yeah, please. Um. If I could just
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: snap my fingers and just like one thing I could
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: just master in the whole honey and fishing world, it
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: would just be how to manifest and just conjure up animals,
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: Like when I look at that hill and be like
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: there he is the manifestations is dad knows how to manifest? Yeah? No,
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: in all, in all seriousness, it'd be tracking. Oh yeah,
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: to have that skill just to like without even like
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: bending over from six ft too well, my eyes are
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: probably at six ft just to look down and be
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: able to just to see, you know, way ahead, just follow,
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: you know, the best guy. The best people I know
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: that are people that refer trappers. Yes, I agree, because
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: just like for hours every day, hours every day you
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: being one of those people and little teeny clues man,
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: little teeny clues. Um, okay, we gotta do our deal.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: How are we gonna you know, we didn't do Simon,
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: I don't know what we didn't do giving stuff away
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: to to to do seeing through the bullshit? Oh right, yeah.
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: But there's the thing I want to talk about real quick,
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: and so many people are written in about it. It's
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: like this is one of those you guys don't need
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: to say anything. But we've had so many people right
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: in about uh, a border wall on our southern border,
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: Like what does a border wall mean for wildlife? And
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: like every day someone writes in the box has been
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: in the news so much. But whether we're gonna build
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: the border wall or not. But I find that people
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: get mad, Like people don't want to hear the answer.
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: They don't want to hear about it because they don't
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: want it to um challenge. However, they feel about it
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: because you could have, you could have. There's a very
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: legitimate argument to be made. You want to build a
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: border wall, and you should be able to think that well,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: knowing everything that that would mean. Right, like if you're
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: saying too, if you're talking with your spouse, but whether
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: you're gonna go on vacation, and you decide like we're
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: gonna go on vacation, and then someone points out, well,
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: if you go on vacation, we're gonna have less money
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: and our savings account. No one gets mad at you
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: for pointing that out. So does the wall affect wildlife?
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: Like how could it? Like? Absolutely it does. It cuts
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: off like people keep writing in about like it's some
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: kind of mystery. You're denying access to water, to certain things,
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: and you're preventing the movement of animals. And since since
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: the dawn of time, wildlife has moved freely back and
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: forth across the border, and like jaguars come in and
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: out awesol lots come in and out, desert, big horns,
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: prong horns, cou's deer, mule deer in some places, even
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: bison um. And then historically you had speci ease that
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: would like, for instance, at that they think that at
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: the end of the place the scene, we lost mountain
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: lions and what's now the Lower forty eight and mountain
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: lions only lived to the south and recononized back and forth.
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: So there's always been this exchange going on. Um. And
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: if you are saying you want to if one's gonna
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: build an impenetrable wall, you're gonna impede the exchange. But
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: that that's not like solving the question of whether it
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: needs to happen in my mind, But it's just like
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: a factor that one has to wait. But like people
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: get pissed when you bring it up. I think you
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: could bring it up and realize that that's the truth
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: and still think that that's what you want to do,
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: But it's just the reality. I know guys who hunt
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: that border country you live down there, who are super
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: worried about it things. I think it's gonna mess up
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: there deer hunting. Yeah, I know people who are worried
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: about uh people coming across. I know those people in
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: that danger and worried about the danger of wildlife. It's
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: just a big It's just a big it's a it's
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: a massive issue. But people right in acting as though
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: like there's like this sort of debatable answer. But I
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: feel like it's like not debatable. It would be they
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: would have implications for wildlife doggie doors or something to
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: That's what I keep wondering about. Man, I haven't heard
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: a guy. I even heard a guy making the case. Yeah,
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: a special code that animals doggie door for desert mule here,
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: and yeah code doggie door a little thing. I've even
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: heard people talk about the implications for lowifying birds and insects.
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: But yeah, do guys. I'm talking about our hardcore quail
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: hunters who hunt like right down by the border. And
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: I mean, I can't imagine quail. I couldn't figure it out.
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: But they don't tend to fly super high, so it
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: might be problematic. I don't know how are we gonna
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: pick someone who play see through the bullshit? I gotta
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: figure it out, do it. I'll combine it with our
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: other thing that we're gonna do you like that. I
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: love it, and I'm just gonna go for the upper
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: end of yeah. Alright, So a couple of things we're
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: gonna do tonight. Well, I'm just gonna bring anybody down first, Okay,
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: if it's your birthday today, not tomorrow, not yesterday, but today,
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: come on down to the stage. Is there anybody in
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: the house? Was birthday? Is it today? Oh? Yeah? Birthday?
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: Birthday too, that's it. We need the oldest person who's
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: having a birthday now. But then you're disqualified. You're disqualified
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: from the other thing you get for having a birthday.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: I was just gonna be super nice to them and
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: the um zora come down. How many we got? Looks
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: like I see more change? Thirty five? Is anybody older
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: than thirty five today? Heard us? They're coming down. They'll
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: be about an hour and they'll be down here telling
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: the rules. Jannes first Seen through the Bullshit? All right,
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna play a game called seeing through the Bullshit.
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: You might also know as a I've never played the
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: drinking version of Two Lies and the Truth? Have you
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: no anybody here? Oh? How old are you? That's all right?
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: That's all right, hang out, hang out. That we got
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: more though, coming down from the old time, We're coming
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: from up high. Okay, So telling the rules. Um so,
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: whoever we choose pick, We're gonna tell you, guys, uh,
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: two lies and one truth, and then if you can
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: guess which one is the true story, then you've seen
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: through the bullshit, seen through the bullshit. Get to take
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: home this brand new pair of Fury laser range finding
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: binoculars that will laser range find reflective stuff at five
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: thousand yards and deer at a thousand plus. Steve's hitting
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: some couz deer in January. Um at, like with these sockers,
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: lifetime warranty. Hold you So, how do you No one's
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: gonna beat that. It's not all right? Coming up? I'm
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: getting okay, So you're giving up your spot? I am okay.
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: So what happened to our person? She's coming coming, come
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: coming back, coming upstairs? There it is, Come on out.
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: What's your name? I gotta see where you right here? Hi,
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: nice to meet you there, Take my scene, take my hand.
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: Happy birthday, Happy birthday. So what's your name? Clari? Okay, Clary.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: We're gonna tell you sister, just so she knows, gonna
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: sit close to her so that possibly they can pick
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: up her voice on my microphone. Are you comfortable with that? Okay?
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: Where you're not American? England? Okay, welcome. All these stories
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: are distinctly American. How long have you been here? Okay,
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: you're a good all right? Did you hear the rules
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: for the game? Okay, you're busy walking down. So we're
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: gonna tell you. Um, who's telling them? Sam? April. I'm
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: gonna tell a story. April's gonna tell a story. I'm
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: gonna tell a story. Sam's gonna tell a story. It's
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: gonna tell a story. One of them is true. You
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: just need to identify the true one. Let's start with
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: your honest Okay. Um, everybody knows that you can take
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: goats and put them in a pen and goats, yes,
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: and forced them to eat knap weed and other types
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: of weeds, and then you can let them. They'll they'll
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: sort of become accustomed to it, and and that will become
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: their diet. When you coutmeme loose out in the wild,
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: they'll eat the weeds and they don't eat the native
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: And that's the way that we here in the States
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: we get rid of weeds out on you know, wide
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: open pastures in the forest. It is well, it gets better.
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: So there's a problem here in Washington where there's a
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: pod of orca's. You may have heard of the Southern pod,
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: southern resident pod that only eat chinook sal salmon, right,
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: have you heard about this? Oh? Well, you people, just
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: you guys are gonna be you guys are gonna be
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: allowed to help later. We're gonna let you help later,
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: but let us get through the stories before you start.
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: You all, you all. I wouldn't trust them quite yet
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: because they have no idea. Yes everything hunters and huntresses,
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: thank you hunters huntresses. So so even you irrational ones
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: out there. Um, okay, So there's uh state of Washington
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: that they got a problem with these orcas because there's
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: not enough salmon for them to eat, so they're getting
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: skinny and they they're they're not doing well. So, um,
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: there's another pot of orcas out that that go up
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: and down the coast that eat mammals like sea lions,
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: seals and whatnot. So what they're thing about doing is
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: making a net and capturing a few of these Southern
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: pod orcas and actually taking seals that they've caught and
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: like cutting off a fin or a chunk of the
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: tail and putting it in the net with these orcas
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: to sort of start getting the orcas to feed on
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: these um the seals to then turn them into predators
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: that work off the seals and not be just you know,
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: so uh um so word I'm looking for. We're relying
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: on the salmon. Okay, they're just looking into that. Okay,
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: that's fine. Now you're familiar with the state of Wyoming. Okay,
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: there's a big reservoir called Flaming Gorge and whelming a
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: dude is they're fishing, and he cuts his thumb off
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: on his boat prop in July, Okay, that winner. A
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: feller is fishing through the ice and catches a lake trout,
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: opens it's got up and finds a thumb in its gut.
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: They connect the feller that lost his thumb with the
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: feller that found the thumb. The guy comes and has
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: a look and he says, I think that's my thumb.
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: And he now keeps the thumb in a are formalde
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: hyde on his mantelpiece. Care, Sam, So are you familiar
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: with Catalina Island off of southern California. So for a
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: very long time. They've had problems with feral goats eating. Yes, big,
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: big problems. They can't get rid of them. It's a
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: big island, very rugged terrain. They've tried all sorts of
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: different solutions for getting rid of them. Back in the seventies,
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: the US Fish and Wildlife Service proposed planting coyotes on
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: the island, which would naturally kind of take care of
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: the goats. But obviously they're worried about creating a new
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: invasive species. So what they proposed to do was plant
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: a subcutaneous cyanide pill inside the coyotes digestive tract that
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: would break down over the years, so after they've done
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: their jobs, they would expire with cyanide. No, yeah, because
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: somebody else could then eat them and then they die.
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: And you may be unfamiliar with the goofy stuff wild
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: game managers have done in this country. Talking about the seventies,
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: that's when animals were harmed in the making of movies.
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: That's when they were capturing its thumb back from the
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: belly of a lake trout or the orchid project that
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: they're gonna start feeding them new um cut up seals
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: to get them to turn them into better predators or
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: the cyanide pill filled coyotes. I'm you got it here,
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: It's okay. Here's the thing they are. Someone in Australia
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: is looking at how to do a time capsule death dingo,
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: that's where we got it from. That's where we got
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: it from. It won't happen. I guess Australia's bigger than
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: what do you can do with those? You win a
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: prize a really nice price. That's a paraminoculars that have
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: a laser range finder built into him. Oh oh did you?
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: I was just gonna ask, are you sure you came
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: to the right show tonight? Up? My chicken thinking why
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: are they gonna stall singing? That's coming next? The Power.
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: We're like, don't cry for me, Argentina. Oh wonderful, thank
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: you about appreciate
