- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here and it's Friday.
- 0:14It is the 20th of September and you've made it to another day.
- 0:18That is the end of the week. Well done.
- 0:21I hope that the week has been a good one for you and that the
- 0:24weekend ahead is maybe even a little bit sweeter, maybe even a
- 0:28bit of downtime ahead. May the sunshine on your
- 0:31shoulders and maybe, maybe even may you lie in the sunshine next
- 0:36to your dog on the ground. Or maybe that's just me.
- 0:41Maybe that's too much. I'm giving away my trade
- 0:43secrets. I hope you're going well.
- 0:46As we continue, only a handful of more of these Psalms heading
- 0:51up the hill towards Zion. This is another song for
- 0:54pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem. This is not just, well, one or
- 0:59two or three verses like the others have been.
- 1:01This has actually got a little bit of rhythm that we can settle
- 1:03into all 18 verses. We won't know ourselves.
- 1:07This Psalm is a hymn. This is a hymn of David calling
- 1:11people to worship as they lift their eyes to the horizon and
- 1:15walk toward that great city where we will all find our rest.
- 1:20So let us share this Psalm together.
- 1:22You can sing it, but I'm just going to read it.
- 1:26As we read together Psalm 132, Lord remembered David and all
- 1:42that he suffered. He made a solemn promise to the
- 1:45Lord. He vowed to the Mighty One of
- 1:47Israel, I will not go home. I will not let myself rest.
- 1:52I will not let my eyes slumber, nor close my eyelids in slumber
- 1:57until I find a place to build a house for the Lord, a sanctuary
- 2:01for the Mighty One of Israel. We heard that the ark was in
- 2:06Ephrata. Then we found it in the distant
- 2:09countryside of Jah. Let us go to the sanctuary of
- 2:13the Lord. Let us worship at the footstool
- 2:16of His throne. Arise, O Lord, and enter your
- 2:19resting place along with the ark, the symbol of your power.
- 2:24May your priests be clothed in godliness.
- 2:28May your loyal servants sing for joy.
- 2:31For the sake of your servant David, do not reject the king
- 2:34you have anointed. The Lord swore an oath to David
- 2:39for the promise he will never take back.
- 2:41I will place one of your descendants on your throne.
- 2:45If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant and the
- 2:48laws that I teach them, then your royal line will continue
- 2:52forever and ever. For the Lord has chosen
- 2:56Jerusalem. He has desired it for his home.
- 3:00This is my resting place forever, he said.
- 3:03I will live here, for this is the home I desired.
- 3:08I will bless the city and make it prosperous.
- 3:12I will satisfy its poor with food.
- 3:15I will clothe its priests with godliness.
- 3:18Its faithful servants will sing for joy here I will increase the
- 3:22power of David. My anointed one will be a light
- 3:26for my people. I will clothe his enemies with
- 3:29shame, but he will be a glorious King.
- 3:43Our Lord, we do come before you in praise, for You are our holy
- 3:48God and You have blessed us through generations and
- 3:52generations stretching so far back we can't even imagine.
- 4:00Thank you for your provision for us, Your love for us that
- 4:05boggles our minds, but still there it is.
- 4:09Thank You that You would invite us to ascend that hill as
- 4:14pilgrims coming home to rest with you.
- 4:18We look forward to that rest, but until that day that we join
- 4:21you in that eternal home, thank you that you walk beside us,
- 4:26that you bless us each step of the way with everything that we
- 4:30need. We are so grateful to you, your
- 4:33love and your provision to us. We thank you and we praise you
- 4:38all in the name of Jesus, Amen.
