- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode? Today I thought we'd talk about something cozy. Luna: Ooh, cozy sounds perfect. What did you have in mind? Lucas: Winter weather. Since we've covered spring, summer, and autumn, it's time for the cold. Luna: Oh right, we did those! So what's the first phrase for winter? Lucas: The most basic one: Hace frío. It means 'It's cold.' Say it with me: Hace frío. Luna: Hace frío. Hace frío. That's not too hard. Lucas: Exactly. You'll hear this all the time in winter. Hace frío. Luna: So if someone says 'Hace frío,' I should probably grab a jacket. Lucas: For sure. Which brings us to our next phrase: Está nevando. It means 'It's snowing.' Está nevando. Luna: Está nevando. Está nevando. That's fun to say. Lucas: It is. And when it's snowing and cold, you might say: Voy a ponerme un abrigo. That means 'I'm going to put on a coat.' Luna: Voy a ponerme un abrigo. Wow, that's a mouthful. Let me try again. Voy a ponerme un abrigo. Lucas: You got it. And let's practice asking about the weather: ¿Qué tiempo hace? That means 'What's the weather like?' Luna: ¿Qué tiempo hace? I've heard that before. It's like a weather question. Lucas: Exactly. Finally, a nice one: Me gusta el invierno. 'I like winter.' Luna: Me gusta el invierno. I can say that about snow days. Lucas: Let's put them in a quick scene. Imagine we're looking out the window. I say: Hace frío, ¿verdad? Luna: Sí, y está nevando. Voy a ponerme un abrigo. Lucas: Perfect. And if someone asks you about the weather, remember: ¿Qué tiempo hace? And you can answer with any of these. Luna: So if it's snowing, I say 'Está nevando.' If it's cold, 'Hace frío.' And if I'm happy about it, 'Me gusta el invierno.' Lucas: You're a natural. Now, let's do a little more practice. I'll say a phrase, and you repeat. Luna: Okay, hit me. Lucas: Hace frío. Luna: Hace frío. Lucas: Está nevando. Luna: Está nevando. Lucas: Voy a ponerme un abrigo. Luna: Voy a ponerme un abrigo. Lucas: ¿Qué tiempo hace? Luna: ¿Qué tiempo hace? Lucas: Me gusta el invierno. Luna: Me gusta el invierno. Lucas: Great job. Now, quick honest thing. You know we keep this show free and ad-free, right? Luna: Yeah, that's awesome. How do we do it? Lucas: A handful of listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that's literally what funds making all these episodes. Luna: That's cool. If Fexingo has been helping you make progress, that's a nice way to keep it going. Lucas: So back to winter. Imagine you're on a trip and someone asks: ¿Qué tiempo hace? You could say: Hace frío y está nevando. Luna: And then maybe: Voy a ponerme un abrigo. And if you love it: Me gusta el invierno. Lucas: You've got it. Keep these in your pocket for the cold days. Practice them till we chat again. See you next time. Luna: Adiós Lucas. Stay warm every one.
