- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn German with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. Hello everyone. It is so good to be here again. Lucas: It really is. Last episode we talked about airport basics. Flying is exciting but tiring. Luna: Totally. My feet were sore just listening to those phrases. But now we are home. Lucas: Exactly. And when you get home, you start moving things around. You take off your bag. You put your keys down. Luna: Right. So today we are talking about where things go. Specifically, movement into a place. Lucas: Yes. We will use three prepositions: 'in', 'auf', and 'an'. And we will use the accusative case because there is movement. Luna: Accusative. That sounds serious. But don't worry, we will keep it simple. Just three phrases today. Lucas: That is right. Small steps. Let's start with the first one. Listen closely. Luna: Okay. I am ready. Lucas: The phrase is: Ich gehe in die Küche. Luna: Oh, that is nice. Into the kitchen. Lucas: Let me break it down slowly. Ich gehe. In die Küche. Luna: Ich gehe. In die Küche. Lucas: Good. Now together. Ich gehe in die Küche. Luna: Ich gehe in die Küche. Lucas: Perfect. Notice 'die' Kitchen. Because you are moving into it, we use 'die' not 'der' or 'das' if it were masculine. Luna: I see. Movement changes the article slightly. Got it. Lucas: Exactly. One more time for rhythm. Ich gehe in die Küche. Luna: Ich gehe in die Küche. Lucas: Great. Now let's try the second phrase. This one is about placing something on a surface. Luna: On the table. I like tables. Lucas: Here we go. Er legt das Buch auf den Tisch. Luna: He puts the book on the table. Lucas: Slowly. Er legt. Das Buch. Auf den Tisch. Luna: Er legt. Das Buch. Auf den Tisch. Lucas: Nice. 'Auf den Tisch'. Remember, 'Tisch' is masculine, der Tisch. But with movement onto it, it becomes 'den Tisch'. Luna: Der becomes Den. Like a transformation. Lucas: Precisely. The magic of the accusative. Let's say it together. Er legt das Buch auf den Tisch. Luna: Er legt das Buch auf den Tisch. Lucas: Very clear. Again. Er legt das Buch auf den Tisch. Luna: Er legt das Buch auf den Tisch. Lucas: Excellent. Now for the third and final phrase of our core set. This one is a bit tricky. Luna: Oh no. What is it? Lucas: Wir stellen die Flasche an die Wand. Luna: We put the bottle against the wall. Lucas: Yes. 'Stellen' means to stand something up. Like a bottle or a vase. Not lying down. Luna: Ah, standing up. Okay. Let me try the slow version. Lucas: Go ahead. Wir stellen. Die Flasche. An die Wand. Luna: Wir stellen. Die Flasche. An die Wand. Lucas: Good. 'An die Wand'. Moving towards the wall. Accusative case. Let's do it all together. Luna: Wir stellen die Flasche an die Wand. Lucas: Perfect. One more time. Wir stellen die Flasche an die Wand. Luna: Wir stellen die Flasche an die Wand. Lucas: You are doing great. Let's review all three quickly. First one? Luna: Ich gehe in die Küche. Lucas: Second one? Luna: Er legt das Buch auf den Tisch.
