Lucas: We've covered ordering food before, but today we're focusing on something sweet. Luna: Oh, I love sweet. Dessert? Lucas: Exactly. Desserts in German. After a meal, you might want 'der Nachtisch'. Luna: Der Nachtisch. That's dessert. Lucas: Yes. Der Nachtisch. Let's say it together: der Nachtisch. Luna: Der Nachtisch. Lucas: Good. Now, two common desserts: 'der Kuchen' and 'das Eis'. Luna: Der Kuchen and das Eis. Cake and ice cream. Lucas: Perfect. Der Kuchen is masculine, das Eis is neuter. So 'der Kuchen' and 'das Eis'. Luna: Der Kuchen, das Eis. I love both. Lucas: Let's practice ordering. You can say: 'Ich möchte einen Kuchen, bitte.' Luna: Ich möchte einen Kuchen, bitte. I would like a cake, please. Lucas: Exactly. Notice 'einen' because Kuchen is masculine. For ice cream: 'Ich möchte ein Eis, bitte.' Luna: Ich möchte ein Eis, bitte. Ein Eis because it's neuter. Lucas: Right. Now a waiter might ask: 'Was möchten Sie zum Nachtisch?' Luna: Was möchten Sie zum Nachtisch? What would you like for dessert? Lucas: Yes. You can answer: 'Ich nehme den Kuchen.' or 'Ich nehme das Eis.' Luna: Ich nehme den Kuchen. I'll take the cake. Ich nehme das Eis. Lucas: Great. Let's do a little role-play. I'll be the waiter. 'Was möchten Sie zum Nachtisch?' Luna: Ich möchte einen Kuchen, bitte. Lucas: Sehr gut. Und für Sie? Luna: Ich nehme das Eis. Lucas: Perfect. You sound like a pro. Luna: It's easy when you repeat it. Der Nachtisch, der Kuchen, das Eis. Lucas: Let's review the phrases. 'Ich möchte einen Kuchen, bitte.' Luna: Ich möchte einen Kuchen, bitte. Lucas: 'Was möchten Sie zum Nachtisch?'
