Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguars fans welcome in to do wall daily presented by jimjag.com fueled by brass tax coffee Monday October 5th We are in St. John New Brunswick, I believe here on a cruise Canada.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't had a good time out here A little bit of a gloomy day kind of what you expect in Canada, but right now We are talking about the Jaguars 22 to 17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals the Jaguars are not three and one on the season They have beaten the Browns and Jacksonville
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: they've also taken care of the Patriots and Jacksonville lost on the road in a close one where they kind of fell apart a little bit at the end and Denver and then they keep it together enough to get the win in Cincinnati.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: We really weird game.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, Jamar Chase goes down early.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: Um, T. Higgins goes down late.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: There's an egregious amount of penalties called on both sides.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: So it was a bit of a weird game.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: But Jaguars are now three and one.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: They're in first place in the AFC South.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: They're in second place in the AFC right now.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: They're a good spot.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: They're a good spot as they now get ready to head over across the pond to host the Philadelphia Eagles and then the Houston Texans before a by-week.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: So the Jaguars have positioned them themselves well to go attack this London Road Trip.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: and continue playing good football and so we're just going to get into the top takeaways from the Jaguar as went over the Bengals and top takeaways from the season so far.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm excited to get into it.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate you all being here.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: Love talking Jaggs football with you.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll say at that hype button is all Jaggs all the time.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: So as I mentioned, your Jaggs and Phil Jaggors, they are pretty good at football.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: The run defense, talking about the defense aside of the ball because I think
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: We'd honestly be a little remiss not to start with the defensive side of the ball after this type of game where you only allow 17 points to Joe Burrow in the Cincinnati Bengals on the road in Cincinnati, you only allow 17 points by, I mean, not even close to a perfect game.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: But exactly what you saw in 2025 is carried over from a strength standpoint.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: The run defense,
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: and the ability to force turnovers are still the calling cards of the Jaguar's defense without question.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_00]: Through four games, almost a quarter of the season.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, a few years back we literally didn't know what to say.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: It was officially a quarter of the season, but now we have 17 games.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_00]: Through basically a quarter of the season, the Jaguar's are allowing 3.3 yards per carry on the ground.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: only 74 yards per game on the ground against the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: They allowed less than two yards per carry.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: They absolutely made the Bengals a one-dimensional football team.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: And when you have Joe Burrow and T-Higgins for most of the game, obviously, Jamar Chase for a little bit of the game.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: That one dimension is still pretty darn good.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously, the Jaguars, they did not have bust around or Christian Braswell, so they were
- 3:15[SPEAKER_00]: But the jaguars have dominated their opponent's rushing attacks.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: They are tied for the second most takeaways in the NFL.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: They are first in turn over differential.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: They have six interceptions and two fumble recoveries.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: Most of the interceptions so far have been, I would say, scheme-based coverage-based.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: Guys being in the right spot at the right time, but changing the looks,
- 3:43[SPEAKER_00]: closing in on zones, you know, eyes in the back field, eyes on the quarterback, that vision zone defends the Jaguar still play a lot.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: And so when you have an identity of being able to make your opponent one dimensional and identity of forcing turnovers, that makes it very difficult for your opponent to find success into score points.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's difficult to stay on track when you can't run the ball.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's difficult to execute consistently in the passing game and not turn the ball over through the air when you're forced to pass consistently.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: And that is a beautiful thing you're saying for me that any company lays to you friends right now.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: You also have,
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: some things changing a little bit on the defense side of the ball.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter appears to be becoming a calling guard for this defense before our very eyes.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: Over the last several weeks, Travis Hunter has played excellent football.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: He has been playing more and more for the Jaguars on the defensive side of the ball.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: And he was just quite simply, I mean, he was excellent.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: Excellent against.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: the Cleveland Browns and excellent against the New England Patriots and excellent against the Broncos and you know, his best game, 5-4 against the Bengals, which is just, it's really cool.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the confidence he's playing with is pretty special right now and he's
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: but now he's able to take that confidence and actually get out on the field and do his thing.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think that that's just like such a boon for the Jaguars.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's having a lockdown corner who can do it in zone, who can do it in man coverage, who can change the game,
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: and coverage, and support, I mean, he absolutely drilled, it sends an anti-mangles offensive player in this game.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's awesome to see.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's super fun to see a player of Travis Hunter's caliber on the Jaguar's defense.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: And he looked, I don't often,
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: kind of UFF grades as the end all deal, but the stats that PFF can provide you are pretty big.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: The past breakups, the interception, I mean, he made a great play.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: He made a great play down the field against Sea Higgins, went up and off the ball, juke Sea Higgins out of his job, and it got called back because Eric Armstead had some helmet helmet contact with Joe Burrow, that's one of those unfortunate things.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: Waiting on a big, I mean, he had his interception against the Patriots that was huge right, but he's still waiting on kind of being able to have an interception with a big six opportunity with a bigger turn-off opportunity, but he had two past break-ups, he was tackling physical just playing good football for the Jaguars, which I think
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: Again, he is becoming a call-in court or the Jaguar's defense.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: You know that you have guys that can execute the assignments in a lot of situations.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know that you have this incredible run defense, this defense that can force turnovers, and then you drop in a corner back one that you really just didn't have last year, and a player that's as talented as he is, and as confident as he is, and it's like
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: The sky could be the limit for how good this defense could end up becoming as Travis Hunter continues to ascend.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: Now, sacks, they're improving in the sack department this year compared to last year.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think part of that can be attributed to running some more man coverage, part of it can be attributed to guys just winning one on one's at times.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: They're 11th in the NFL and sacks right now.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: So that's not great.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think based on how much money they're spending up front, you would like it to be more.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: But it is better than what you saw last year.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: And if they can continue to get sacks,
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: Again, more man-covered this year, which I think is disallowing quarterback to turn to the quick game as much as they would like in certain situations.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: Then, again, that's, that's like kind of another feather in the cap where it's like, you're bad at getting the quarterback on the ground last year in certain situations.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: You're getting better at it this year.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: Can you add that one more piece to the puzzle for the Jaguar's defense and that's
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter started to change games.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: Turnovers are changing games.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: Run defense is changing the game.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: Jarren Jones, Jordan Lewis, Buster Brown, they can all compete.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: The linebackers understand their assignments and coverage the safeties do as well.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to be a, I mean, it could eventually be, but it feels like it's gonna be a defense that's a little bit bin, but don't break.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: a defense that's going to allow some yards, but a defense that ultimately is going to outlast you and because you can't run the ball, they're going to capitalize on the mistakes you do make in the passing game.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: So, exciting stuff for the Jaguar is even they're allowing 13 points per game through four games that is the second best mark in the NFL.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: Look at the Jaguar is on the offensive side of the ball.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: I still think even though the numbers aren't
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: The past pro has got to love love.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's not good enough right now.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's not where it needs to be.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, going into the texture Lawrence is very difficult.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: Blame office playing very good football for these Cincinnati Bengals as well.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: But for me, it's got to be better.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: felt like Anton Harrison had a pretty down day in this one, felt like the interior did not, again, you're going to get into extra Lawrence in company.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: And Jonathan Allen, he has had a little bit of a resurgence, and was kind of looked like he turned back the page, turned back the clock against the Jaguars in the past rush department.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: This is some things that Jaguars got us to continue to work through and continue to get better as the past protection.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: I will say this.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: I think the run blocking is vastly improved compared to last year, and it's vastly improved down to down, but it's also there opening up some running lanes that just weren't there consistently last year.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Chris Rodriguez has run touchdown run 25 yards.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't have to do a whole lot.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: But the running game, talking about leveling up on offense, the running game being more consistent.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: Chris Rodriguez, and Basil Tutan in this one, averaging 4.7 yards per carry combined.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: You're having the 25 yard touchdown run from outside of the red zone.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar is a big consistent running the football in 2026 and they were not in 2025.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: That is a huge boon to the passing game and to the team as a whole.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: If you can run the football and also help your defense, you stay on the field a little bit longer on offense and it helps your defense rest up and get ready to go back out and attack the opposing offense.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: Um, the ability to spread the ball around against opponents is huge, like you don't know who it's going to be week to week.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think Parker Washington at seasons end will be the, the, the, the Jaguars leader in receptions in targets and all the big numbers, right?
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: But you're going to have weeks where it can be Jacobi Myers weeks where like this week against the Bengals who struggle against tight ends, Britain's strange can get seven targets or eight targets.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_00]: and get almost 100 yards and VA chain mover and be explosive and do a lot of different things.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: for your offense, you're also more multiple and your alignment, you're running a lot more 12 personnel, which I think is really helpful in a variety of ways, but it's big, man.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: It's big that they can spread the ball around.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: And then beyond the top three guys we talked about, you have based two, and you can do things out of the back field, you have Nate Borkich here at your interview.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: And obviously Britain's strange, going to get in a touch, I said Britain's here.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: Brian Thomas Jr., going to get in a touch-down
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: And I think probably reestablishing some confidence in himself and his ability to contribute for this offense.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: So I think they're in a good spot there.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think Cam little, kicking it very well.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's missed one field goal in my opinion, obviously he's technically missed two.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: But do you count a 70-yarder against him?
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: I don't.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: So in the, you know, realm of reasonable field goals, he's missed one.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: He's doing a good job.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: He had a very big game against the Bengals put up a lot of points on the board for the Jaguars and a game where they weren't as good finishing as they normally are in terms of scoring touchdowns.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: There was penalties that had to do with that in different situations.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: But Kim, little, he's kicking it very well, which is a good place for the Jaguars to be in too.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: So Jaguars, they are, again, second place in the F.C.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: First place in the F.C.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: South, they have an opportunity ahead of them against an Eagles team
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: hasn't been as impressive, and as you might expect, and a text and see him who is Owen for in London.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_00]: So, the Jaguar has got to take care of business.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: If they do that, they'll be positioning themselves in a tremendous spot coming out of there by week after week seven.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: So, really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, you're pleased like and subscribe y'all have great one.
