- 0:01Just about anyone who has experienced a long trip with
- 0:04young children will relate to the question Are we there yet?
- 0:1010 minutes into the journey and every 5 or 10 minutes
- 0:14thereafter, the children ask if we are at the destination yet.
- 0:19They have no realistic sense of time, distance or process.
- 0:24They become bored and want to move on to whatever is next.
- 0:29In a certain sense, we are all like the children in the journey
- 0:33when we reflect on the process of the manifestation of a next
- 0:37stage of consciousness in evolutionary time.
- 0:41Our short human lifetime simply cannot comprehend or encompass
- 0:45the vast time needed for each stage of consciousness to
- 0:49evolve, integrate itself into the manifestation, and prepare
- 0:54for the next stage that must inevitably follow.
- 0:57After the evolution of the vital nature took billions of years,
- 1:03the evolution of the mental nature took at least hundreds of
- 1:06millions of years to reach the current stage.
- 1:09So when we reflect on the changes needed to bring forth
- 1:13the supermental nature, we need a certain amount of perspective
- 1:18and ability to separate our individual lifetime and ego
- 1:22individuality from that larger process.
- 1:27Rather than an overnight short term transformation, the
- 1:31evolutionary process is more like a very long relay race
- 1:35where the runners are tasked with carrying the baton to the
- 1:38next runner, who then runs and hands off to the subsequent
- 1:42runner until eventually a final runner reaches the finish line.
- 1:48This does not rule out some type of evolutionary saltis, as
- 1:52Srioro Bindo has termed it, the sudden manifestation of
- 1:56something that has been preparing unseen until it is
- 1:59ready to burst forth. Yet this also does not obviate
- 2:04the need for the detailed working out of that force of
- 2:07consciousness through the entirety of the earth nature.
- 2:12Sri Aurobindo and the Mother have pointed out that the
- 2:15conscious participation of spiritual aspirants with a basis
- 2:19of the evolved mentality and a developed psychic being or soul
- 2:24presence should be able to dramatically speed up the
- 2:27process so that it should not take hundreds of millions or
- 2:31even hundreds or 10s of thousands of years.
- 2:35Each phase of the Yoga of Nature occurs dramatically faster than
- 2:39the earlier stages. Each stage needs to both
- 2:43manifest and then integrate itself into the Earth nature.
- 2:47Thus, for the Super mental force to fully evolve, the entire
- 2:52earth consciousness needs to be prepared, textured for an
- 2:57ability to receive, hold and utilize that force effectively
- 3:02within the framework of earthly existence.
- 3:05Until that is done, any individual remains subject to
- 3:09the complex and difficult process along the way.
- 3:14That is why in various places, the mother and trio Robindo have
- 3:18implied a time frame of hundreds of years at a minimum.
- 3:23Putting that into context, those who take up this yoga to day in
- 3:28the early days of the process are likely the early relay
- 3:32runners who have to carry out the work without impatience with
- 3:37perseverance and be satisfied that they are helping the larger
- 3:41process along through their own inner growth and development.
- 3:45In other words, we are not there yet, and to claim otherwise is
- 3:51essentially shutting down the internal process in favor of
- 3:54egoistic self aggrandizement, which is more or less a dead end
- 3:59in this journey. The mother who declared the
- 4:03initial advent of the supermental force into the earth
- 4:06atmosphere spent many years after that working on making the
- 4:10body's cells receptive and preparing them for the
- 4:14supermental force to work at that level.
- 4:17She did not claim the complete transformation of human nature,
- 4:22rather she demonstrated the selfless efforts that aid the
- 4:26process for the long term. She described the type of
- 4:30changes that would be needed in the physical body to carry out
- 4:33the complete transition to a super mental being, a new race
- 4:38with dramatically different bodily functionality.
- 4:43Srioro Bindu observes quote. It is very unwise for anyone to
- 4:48claim prematurely to have possession of the Super mind, or
- 4:52even to have a taste of it. The claim is usually accompanied
- 4:57by an outburst of super egoism, some radical blunder of
- 5:01perception or a gross fall, wrong condition and wrong
- 5:06movement, a certain spiritual humility, a serious unarrogant
- 5:12look at oneself and quiet perception of the imperfections
- 5:16of 1's present nature. And instead of self esteem and
- 5:21self assertion, a sense of the necessity of exceeding one's
- 5:25present self, not from egoistic ambition but from an urge
- 5:31towards the Divine, would be, it seems to me, for this frail
- 5:36terrestrial and human composition, far better
- 5:40conditions for proceeding towards the Super mental change.
