Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You know, I just wanted to say something encouraging to people.
- 0:05Speaker 1: You know, I'm so proud of fathers. I'm proud to
- 0:13Speaker 1: be a father, and I applaud all fathers. Now I'm
- 0:22Speaker 1: also very proud of all the dads. I'm proud to
- 0:29Speaker 1: be a dad. I'm proud to know the dads that
- 0:32Speaker 1: I know. Now you just said, Steve a minute ago,
- 0:35Speaker 1: you said you're proud of all fathers, Well, congratulations. Because
- 0:38Speaker 1: fatherhood is an honor, but dad is a duty. There's
- 0:44Speaker 1: an honor and a duty that comes with this thing
- 0:47Speaker 1: called fatherhood. And I want to implore more men to
- 0:51Speaker 1: do your duty. Anybody can father a child, but it
- 0:59Speaker 1: takes a another level to be the dad. To send
- 1:06Speaker 1: a text, to show up at games, to go to
- 1:11Speaker 1: school events, to support, to offer guidance, to show love,
- 1:21Speaker 1: to be present, to take a phone call to answer
- 1:25Speaker 1: a question.
- 1:27Speaker 2: That's what being a dad is.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Fatherhood is a privilege, dad is a duty. I just
- 1:41Speaker 1: want to make sure that more men take up the
- 1:45Speaker 1: role of being a dad, be active man. And I
- 1:49Speaker 1: understand that there are things that prevent that, and I
- 1:52Speaker 1: do know, and I want to say this to women
- 1:55Speaker 1: out there. If you are using your child as a pond.
- 1:59Speaker 1: You can't see him unless you get caught up on
- 2:01Speaker 1: your child support. You can't see him because you're dating
- 2:04Speaker 1: this other woman. You can't be around him because of
- 2:07Speaker 1: the way you did me. You are making life increasingly
- 2:12Speaker 1: difficult for this child. Now, I got you and him
- 2:16Speaker 1: may not get along, but don't please don't block him
- 2:18Speaker 1: from being a dad, because the only one that's going
- 2:22Speaker 1: to hurt from that is your child.
- 2:24Speaker 2: They the ones that will suffer.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Now that are men suffering because they can't get to
- 2:28Speaker 1: their children for whatever the reason. And I know that,
- 2:32Speaker 1: But if you are one of the sisters or one
- 2:34Speaker 1: of the people that's holding your child as a pond,
- 2:36Speaker 1: come on, now, let's think this thing through a little
- 2:38Speaker 1: bit better. I got he did you wrong. I understand that.
- 2:43Speaker 1: I got he to moved on. I got that too.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I got he behind on child support payments. I understand that.
- 2:53Speaker 1: But what I need for you to do, though, What
- 2:56Speaker 1: I need for you to do, though, is to push
- 3:00Speaker 1: that to the side for the sake of your child.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Because there's a lot that a dad offers, it really
- 3:06Speaker 1: really is, and we need more dads out here. I
- 3:12Speaker 1: guess it was pushed to the forefront because of this
- 3:14Speaker 1: weekend with the draft with the Sanders family, and I
- 3:19Speaker 1: watched how this thing played out. Now, I don't want
- 3:22Speaker 1: to get into the draft and the whole thought of
- 3:25Speaker 1: I realized, and it was collusion with the owners and
- 3:28Speaker 1: we're gonna make an example out of Shadua Sanders, Dion's
- 3:32Speaker 1: son and all that.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I got all of that.
- 3:34Speaker 1: That's but what got Fish young Man and his brothers
- 3:41Speaker 1: to this level was because there was a father who
- 3:45Speaker 1: was active in their lives. And that's the real story here.
- 3:52Speaker 1: What got Serena and Venus to where they are reached
- 3:56Speaker 1: the heights that they reached because there was an active
- 4:00Speaker 1: father in their life who was being a dad. The
- 4:04Speaker 1: reason Tiger Woods got to the level he was because
- 4:09Speaker 1: of a man named Earl Woods. The reason that all
- 4:15Speaker 1: of the ball boys are balling right now is because
- 4:19Speaker 1: there was a mister Ball.
- 4:21Speaker 2: There was a ball in there, a father.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Who was active, who was an active participant in their
- 4:28Speaker 1: children's life. I am who I am today because there
- 4:35Speaker 1: was an old black man.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Who poured everything into me.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Man wasn't for this, dude, I'm telling you, just don't
- 4:48Speaker 1: know the importance of a father in these children's lives,
- 4:55Speaker 1: and we have got to start applauding that and not
- 4:59Speaker 1: penalizing it.
- 5:01Speaker 2: We have got to start making that a celebration.
- 5:06Speaker 1: I am telling you, man, fathers who are out there
- 5:10Speaker 1: being dads, I take my hat off to you.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Because you are important, you are critical.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Now. I understand the system has done everything everything to
- 5:22Speaker 1: destroy the family basis in our community, and they are
- 5:26Speaker 1: still doing it. And I know how difficult it is
- 5:31Speaker 1: to be a father, no matter who you are, no
- 5:34Speaker 1: matter what color you are what it's just hard to
- 5:36Speaker 1: be a father and a dad. So take up the
- 5:39Speaker 1: banner and wear it well. And those of you that
- 5:42Speaker 1: got to deal with the extra that comes with it
- 5:44Speaker 1: because of who we are, deal with it. You ain't
- 5:47Speaker 1: the first one, you ain't the last one. You ain't
- 5:50Speaker 1: the only one. Now, those of us who have had
- 5:52Speaker 1: to deal with it, make a way for your children.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Be present, be persistent, show up, find a way to
- 5:59Speaker 1: work out with your girls so you can get your
- 6:01Speaker 1: hands on them boys, and get your hands on them girls.
- 6:04Speaker 1: But get active in their life. We need more of
- 6:08Speaker 1: what we've been seeing lately. That's not being shown enough.
- 6:12Speaker 1: All the barbers as fathers, the truck drivers, as fathers,
- 6:15Speaker 1: the Uber drivers as fathers, the people that work at
- 6:18Speaker 1: Pepsi Co. Cold Colder all y'all fathers and mail man.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I take my hat off to you today and keep
- 6:24Speaker 1: doing what you're doing because you are necessary.
