- 0:16Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode one forty two of
- 0:19Speaker 1: Cards and Categories. I'm Mike cool Ard from Baseball Perspectives,
- 0:23Speaker 1: joined as always by my very good friend Jeremy Brewer.
- 0:27Speaker 1: How are you doing tonight, buddy? We are in prime summer.
- 0:29Speaker 1: First pod of June.
- 0:31Speaker 2: We are in prime summer. I'm going to get back
- 0:33Speaker 2: to actually podcasting from my basement. But it's been like
- 0:36Speaker 2: a month now that I've been podcasting from different places.
- 0:38Speaker 2: I'm in Wisconsin today. I was in Nashville three weeks ago.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I did up for my deck because a lot of
- 0:43Speaker 2: power last week. So I'm on a run here. But
- 0:46Speaker 2: I'm it doesn't matter where we're at, what time it is,
- 0:49Speaker 2: we are going to podcast. We're going to talk about baseball.
- 0:51Speaker 2: So I'm throws.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I appreciate your dedication, but yeah, it's been a good
- 0:55Speaker 1: kickoff to the summer where lots of great college world
- 0:59Speaker 1: series action to open the past couple of weeks. And
- 1:03Speaker 1: on top of it, you can tell it's getting warmer
- 1:04Speaker 1: because I don't know about you, but it does feel
- 1:06Speaker 1: like all of my pictures are getting sheld, feels like
- 1:09Speaker 1: offenses are up. It feels like people are bonking home
- 1:13Speaker 1: runs off of others heads.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Did you see the Joe Adele clip.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Is this not going down in the pantheon, especially coming
- 1:20Speaker 1: on the on the other end of him robbing three
- 1:22Speaker 1: home runs and then Jose knsekoing himself in the same season.
- 1:26Speaker 1: That is that is the highest of highs and lowest
- 1:29Speaker 1: of lows.
- 1:29Speaker 2: My friend, I did see somebody say that there's only
- 1:32Speaker 2: been twice in history where a air has been made
- 1:35Speaker 2: and the ball has hit off a player and gone
- 1:39Speaker 2: for a home run. And they're both Joe adel because
- 1:42Speaker 2: because good Jose canseeka wasn't an air because he didn't
- 1:45Speaker 2: even touch the ball with his gloves, so it just
- 1:47Speaker 2: went off its head. But Adella, this is the second
- 1:49Speaker 2: time now he has done this where he has managed
- 1:52Speaker 2: to hit it with his glove and ricochet over the field.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I think I don't think the other one of him had,
- 1:58Speaker 2: but I think the other one was off the glove.
- 2:00Speaker 2: But for all the athletic ability there the wherewithal the
- 2:06Speaker 2: mad awareness breading is not the highest for Joe adel No, No.
- 2:10Speaker 1: It doesn't appear to be. We've been taken too. On
- 2:13Speaker 1: BP today after the box score banter that came out
- 2:18Speaker 1: we're taking calling Joe Adel while Luigi Byron Buxton, which
- 2:22Speaker 1: I think is so fitting, it's so perfect that yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to dropping that every time I.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Get to Okay, well, we've got a great show coming up.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Today we're gonna do our typical monthly Player of the
- 2:35Speaker 1: Month PC. So we just wrapped up May and this
- 2:39Speaker 1: afternoon we are speaking here on Wednesday, June third. Thankfully,
- 2:44Speaker 1: this afternoon they put out the awards for the month
- 2:46Speaker 1: so that we were able to put together our PC picks.
- 2:49Speaker 1: We've got some fun ones, so some interesting repeaters I
- 2:52Speaker 1: would say, where we had to dig deeper into the
- 2:56Speaker 1: baseball card just whole collection of these guys where we
- 3:02Speaker 1: don't have as many selections available, and then some new ones.
- 3:06Speaker 3: So it's gonna be.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I think, some fun picks. We're gonna actually lead off
- 3:09Speaker 1: with card news here. We're gonna get back to the
- 3:12Speaker 1: roots of cards and categories. Put in the cards first,
- 3:14Speaker 1: because we do have a major piece of news in
- 3:17Speaker 1: terms of hobby and card collecting where it came out
- 3:20Speaker 1: this past week that PSA is temporarily gonna pause all
- 3:24Speaker 1: of the card grading tiers under eighty dollars, So if
- 3:28Speaker 1: you're not familiar with card grading. What happens is PSA
- 3:33Speaker 1: one of the major card grading companies, if not probably
- 3:35Speaker 1: like the premiere one. They are certainly the most trusted
- 3:39Speaker 1: and most valued in the market. You certainly have other
- 3:42Speaker 1: options like Beckett, and you know, you can get all
- 3:46Speaker 1: the way down to the weirdo ones with the dudes
- 3:48Speaker 1: that like just put slabs together in their basements and
- 3:50Speaker 1: call it Pete's Grading Company or whatever. But because of that,
- 3:55Speaker 1: because you can get a lot of random companies, has
- 3:58Speaker 1: become the bell weather in the hobby for decades and
- 4:02Speaker 1: decades now at this point, and so they certainly get
- 4:05Speaker 1: the greatest volume, but they've also been getting more and
- 4:08Speaker 1: more investment. You know, they had announced previously a two
- 4:11Speaker 1: hundred million dollar expansion. As the card collecting game is
- 4:15Speaker 1: getting bananas. But you know, this is probably the bread
- 4:19Speaker 1: and butter of most people's collections was sending in cards
- 4:23Speaker 1: that were less than eighty dollars. And then what would
- 4:25Speaker 1: happen is when you send in the card and based
- 4:28Speaker 1: on the value on the grade that it gets, that's
- 4:31Speaker 1: how you would be charged. So you know, most singles,
- 4:34Speaker 1: most kind of common cards are in this eighty grade
- 4:37Speaker 1: tier and then from there, you know, you can see
- 4:39Speaker 1: that PSA is really catering to the higher end clients
- 4:43Speaker 1: with this decision.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Because they didn't say anything about.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Over eighties, I'm guessing they'll be more delayed, but certainly
- 4:49Speaker 1: they've got a huge backlog. It sounds it's like around
- 4:51Speaker 1: ten million cards. Where again, this also is an all
- 4:54Speaker 1: baseball where basketball cards have taken off, especially with Victor
- 4:58Speaker 1: Women Yama, and you've got foll people submitting all their
- 5:01Speaker 1: cards for football to be ready for the season in
- 5:04Speaker 1: a couple months as well as like, honestly, I think
- 5:07Speaker 1: a lot of this is Pokemon. Pokemon cards have really
- 5:10Speaker 1: gone bananas over the past year or two. It is
- 5:13Speaker 1: all over like my Instagram feed where I actually like
- 5:16Speaker 1: watch lots of different sports cards, but like, you can't
- 5:18Speaker 1: avoid the Pokemon cards even though I'm not into them,
- 5:21Speaker 1: and honestly, they're kind of intriguing too.
- 5:23Speaker 3: I'm not gonna lie.
- 5:24Speaker 2: But I don't understand it, but it's intriguing.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Yeah, So what's your take here, brew Like, this is
- 5:30Speaker 1: gonna be a hindrance obviously to the hobby overall, but
- 5:33Speaker 1: it's also maybe a decent hallmark in terms of showing
- 5:37Speaker 1: the growth that's still going on, but we're also seeing
- 5:40Speaker 1: kind of where PSA has decided to focus their efforts,
- 5:44Speaker 1: and there continues to be lines drawn in the sand
- 5:48Speaker 1: throughout the hobby in terms of haves and have not.
- 5:51Speaker 1: So what's your take on this? Do you think that
- 5:54Speaker 1: like PSA will stay the industry lead and if you
- 5:58Speaker 1: have any suggestions for grading cards or going to different companies,
- 6:02Speaker 1: certainly drop the knowledge on the folks out there.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's I think this is not surprising.
- 6:09Speaker 2: PSA is the hallmark, and I don't know if it's
- 6:12Speaker 2: because of the quality. BGS Beckett might actually tend to
- 6:16Speaker 2: be the hardest greator and if you can get a
- 6:18Speaker 2: black label from them actually worth more than any PSA
- 6:21Speaker 2: ten by eight multiples. But PSA has become the gold
- 6:26Speaker 2: standard and because of that, everybody wants it, everybody's going
- 6:29Speaker 2: to be dedicated to it. And you know the volume
- 6:32Speaker 2: place ten million card backlog on their value, which you know,
- 6:38Speaker 2: even submitting value, I just actually submitted I spent like
- 6:41Speaker 2: once or twice a year. I submitted a fourteen card
- 6:43Speaker 2: order in mid May. It is due back to me
- 6:46Speaker 2: in late August, So it's a good three month turnaround,
- 6:50Speaker 2: and I think the average costs that point they had
- 6:53Speaker 2: bumped it up was maybe twenty eight dollars a card
- 6:55Speaker 2: to grade, and I hope I'm maybe get up charge
- 6:58Speaker 2: in there somewhere. Thanks so, mister Otani if I hit well.
- 7:01Speaker 2: But you know, they're looking at the big cards, the
- 7:04Speaker 2: big players, that's who they want to get through, and
- 7:08Speaker 2: they don't have to push things through faster they will
- 7:13Speaker 2: because the more they get through, the more well incomes in.
- 7:16Speaker 2: It's it's going to play pay dividends for them. But
- 7:18Speaker 2: the really interesting thing to me is going to be
- 7:21Speaker 2: the supply and demand, right because you've got, especially the
- 7:25Speaker 2: football season coming up here. You've got some of those
- 7:27Speaker 2: bigger names as quarterbacks. People are hoping to break out,
- 7:30Speaker 2: and if you didn't get them graded, you're out of
- 7:33Speaker 2: luck unless you're going to those high tiers. And so
- 7:36Speaker 2: you're actually going to see some populations of typical cards
- 7:41Speaker 2: with baseball season going to the playoffs, with football season
- 7:44Speaker 2: starting up, where you're going to be seeing a little
- 7:47Speaker 2: more less supply with the high demand, which is going
- 7:50Speaker 2: to drive some of those PSA prices up significantly. And
- 7:54Speaker 2: we're seeing it even in some of the vintage markets
- 7:56Speaker 2: right now where PSA prices are up and I expect
- 8:00Speaker 2: to continue. So it's good for the hobby, it's bad
- 8:02Speaker 2: for the hobby all at once. But the essays the standard,
- 8:06Speaker 2: there's not much you can do about it.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Yep.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I think those are all very fair takes. The other
- 8:09Speaker 1: bit of news we had on the card side over
- 8:12Speaker 1: the past week is it does look like the main
- 8:15Speaker 1: chase card from TOPS series one twenty twenty six was uncovered.
- 8:20Speaker 1: It's currently on Golden Auctions, which is an upper tier
- 8:25Speaker 1: of eBay essentially where actually I don't know who bought
- 8:28Speaker 1: who between I'm guessing eBay back went and bought Golden
- 8:33Speaker 1: Auctions back in the day, but don't quote me on that,
- 8:35Speaker 1: but it used to be it's own separate auction house.
- 8:38Speaker 1: But it is more for higher end cards and higher
- 8:40Speaker 1: end items. And so what appeared there was the Redemption
- 8:44Speaker 1: card that was the number one chase card from series one.
- 8:47Speaker 1: It was a graded nineteen fifty two Tops Mickey Mantle
- 8:51Speaker 1: rookie card. Where you know, right now as we're speaking
- 8:55Speaker 1: here on June third, you still got till the end
- 8:57Speaker 1: of the month, still June twenty eight, getting your bids
- 9:00Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty k is what's at right now.
- 9:03Speaker 1: This thing's probably gonna push half a million, if not more.
- 9:08Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know where this thing could go
- 9:10Speaker 1: because you've kind of got one we just talked about
- 9:13Speaker 1: that issues the PSA two. I mean, this is gonna
- 9:17Speaker 1: be a very nice card and it's gonna be an
- 9:19Speaker 1: authenticated Mickey Mantle. And then three, you're layering in that
- 9:23Speaker 1: it came back to you via the TOPS redemption as
- 9:27Speaker 1: being the main chase car from twenty twenty six, so
- 9:29Speaker 1: it's got a little bit more provenance to it that,
- 9:31Speaker 1: especially when you get into like Mickey Mantle PSA graded
- 9:34Speaker 1: territories that are of acceptable grades, they have a provenance
- 9:39Speaker 1: to them the way that like high end art does,
- 9:41Speaker 1: where people care about where the Mickey Mantles came from
- 9:44Speaker 1: and who owned them. And I think adding that layer
- 9:47Speaker 1: of the TOPS redemption to the story of this Mickey
- 9:49Speaker 1: Mantle will be very huge going forward. So do we
- 9:53Speaker 1: give up on ripping Series one?
- 9:55Speaker 2: Now?
- 9:56Speaker 1: Is this is it over where we uncovered the big one?
- 9:59Speaker 1: Everyone out there looking for the Wanka Golden Ticket. You
- 10:02Speaker 1: can stop your ripping right now? Or you know, is
- 10:05Speaker 1: this something where if you're again glad to see just
- 10:08Speaker 1: the value that's kind of coming through the top series
- 10:12Speaker 1: one ripping that happened that you know this card was
- 10:15Speaker 1: in there, it was uncovered, and somebody's about to hit
- 10:18Speaker 1: a huge payday for it.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I do love to see it. I
- 10:21Speaker 2: do love to see those cards getting pulled. It's one
- 10:24Speaker 2: of those things where it's life changing. To your point,
- 10:27Speaker 2: we don't know if this is going to go. For
- 10:29Speaker 2: the example they use for the Sneaky Mantle card was
- 10:33Speaker 2: a PSA five five and PSA six goes for about
- 10:37Speaker 2: two hundred and twenty KSA five about two hundred k,
- 10:40Speaker 2: But they did not say what it's going to be.
- 10:43Speaker 2: And so to your point, you know, a PSA eight
- 10:47Speaker 2: goes for just a hundred million, a PSA nine goes
- 10:49Speaker 2: for four, and so if this is a PSA seven
- 10:55Speaker 2: or something like that, you know we're talking a four
- 10:57Speaker 2: hundred thousand dollars card. It's life changing for over pulls it,
- 11:01Speaker 2: and it just means that anybody can't and I think
- 11:03Speaker 2: we've seen it more and more that it's not just
- 11:07Speaker 2: the breakers that get an opportunity to pull these cards.
- 11:09Speaker 2: That's and that's the fun thing about it. Even if
- 11:11Speaker 2: it is through a breaker, somebody else gets it. Most
- 11:14Speaker 2: most breakers will pull up there into the bargain. Maybe
- 11:16Speaker 2: not at all, but I'm excited for it. I'm not
- 11:20Speaker 2: saying that it really changes ripping series There's one if
- 11:23Speaker 2: you ripping Series one just for this card, that's kind
- 11:26Speaker 2: of like going back when the guys would trying to
- 11:28Speaker 2: build the Golden Mirror to get the bounties on it. Like,
- 11:30Speaker 2: it's probably not the right financial decision, but if you
- 11:34Speaker 2: have that money to play that game, you probably don't
- 11:37Speaker 2: care if the financial decision. So that's not why anybody
- 11:40Speaker 2: else is ripping Series one, or at least you shouldn't.
- 11:43Speaker 2: But again, it's it's exciting to see something.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I totally agree. So I think that's
- 11:49Speaker 1: a very good take. Well, we've got a few additions
- 11:52Speaker 1: and updates that happened to that Baseball card release calendar
- 11:55Speaker 1: where this is like when things get really cooking in
- 11:59Speaker 1: terms of what's on the release calendar gets a little aggressive,
- 12:03Speaker 1: I think too, where we've already seen a little bit
- 12:05Speaker 1: of shuffling and it happens very rapidly week to week
- 12:08Speaker 1: in terms of new pre orders, new release dates, and
- 12:11Speaker 1: lining things up for those tops printing presses. So coming
- 12:15Speaker 1: up this week, we've got on June fifth, twenty five
- 12:18Speaker 1: Tops Chrome Platinum coming out. I've already seen on Reddit
- 12:20Speaker 1: it's hitting shelves and random walmarts where the suppliers maybe
- 12:24Speaker 1: jump the gun a little bit, but it should be
- 12:26Speaker 1: hitting shelves everywhere on Friday. If you do get the
- 12:29Speaker 1: opportunity to rip it or find it in the wild,
- 12:32Speaker 1: I would say go for it. Like whenever you get
- 12:34Speaker 1: the chance to get something before it officially is out
- 12:38Speaker 1: on its release date, and you get that couple of
- 12:40Speaker 1: days to be able to get ahead of the pack,
- 12:43Speaker 1: to get your cards listed and maybe pack possibly even
- 12:47Speaker 1: package it's shipped out from eBay.
- 12:49Speaker 3: You've got to take advantage of that, right group.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Yeah, you absolutely have to. I mean, that's one of
- 12:54Speaker 2: the best ways to rip is when you can get
- 12:58Speaker 2: that quick return. It's it's not as easy as it
- 13:00Speaker 2: used to be to kind of break even, but there's
- 13:03Speaker 2: a good chance you get one or two hits, you
- 13:05Speaker 2: can probably kind of get most of your money back,
- 13:06Speaker 2: maybe say eighty percent. So yeah, even though maybe Chrome
- 13:10Speaker 2: Platinum is not the you know, the product I still
- 13:13Speaker 2: think if it's out there, if it's the few days
- 13:14Speaker 2: before release, absolutely give it a shot. If you're waiting
- 13:17Speaker 2: for a week or two after, this is probably why
- 13:19Speaker 2: it's so out.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Okay, Then we've got Top Series two coming out next
- 13:24Speaker 1: week twenty twenty six, on June tenth. That will be
- 13:28Speaker 1: the main pod that we have next week, so keep
- 13:30Speaker 1: that in mind. We will have all the overview, all
- 13:33Speaker 1: the checklist details for you as you're out there ripping
- 13:37Speaker 1: Series two, because it is we focus on the series
- 13:40Speaker 1: major releases, and that is one of the big ones.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Flagship Series two. You've got June seventeenth, currently twenty twenty
- 13:47Speaker 1: five Top to Dynasty and twenty twenty six Donnars Elite
- 13:51Speaker 1: June nineteenth, twenty twenty five, Tops Inception June twenty fourth,
- 13:55Speaker 1: twenty twenty six Tops Tier one July fifteenth, twenty twenty six,
- 14:00Speaker 1: Niny Immaculate Collection. I think I got all the twenty
- 14:02Speaker 1: fives and twenty six is correct there. I double checked
- 14:05Speaker 1: my work a few times, but it will get confusing
- 14:08Speaker 1: as we get the overlap of twenty five and twenty six.
- 14:10Speaker 1: It continues all summer, which is a pain in the
- 14:14Speaker 1: as right.
- 14:15Speaker 2: It absolutely is. But these are some of the best
- 14:19Speaker 2: releases of the year if you ask me as far
- 14:21Speaker 2: as like the kind of cards and the quality cards.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Inception Tier one, Binus, Tribute Sapphire. It's a little out
- 14:30Speaker 2: of price rang for most, but like there's some amazing
- 14:32Speaker 2: cards in there. And Series two, which we'll we'll talk
- 14:35Speaker 2: about another time, probably a week from now. It's loaded
- 14:40Speaker 2: and it's gonna be fun. It's gonna be one of
- 14:41Speaker 2: the best Series two in a number of years, So
- 14:44Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be really fun. And they've got
- 14:46Speaker 2: some Princess presses going going over at Tops for sure.
- 14:49Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Okay, Well, if you want to see the full calendar,
- 14:53Speaker 1: there's also some pre orders that are coming up over
- 14:55Speaker 1: the next couple of weeks. In terms of these are
- 14:57Speaker 1: all twenty twenty six products, Dynamic Tools from Tops, Finest
- 15:01Speaker 1: from Tops, Tribute from Tops, and Bowman Sapphire. So if
- 15:05Speaker 1: you're looking out for those pre orders, check that out
- 15:07Speaker 1: in the show notes where if you're down there, you
- 15:09Speaker 1: can also sign up for a ras Ball subscription that
- 15:12Speaker 1: will get you access to all the fancy Schmancy ras
- 15:15Speaker 1: Ball tools that we've got. The hitter Tron it's the
- 15:18Speaker 1: instreaminator event on fire recently where especially this week, I
- 15:22Speaker 1: streamed on Hintertron the Jack Caglion series in Cincinnati where
- 15:28Speaker 1: he's actually come to life. I picked up that Jose
- 15:30Speaker 1: Serie Grand Slam that happened on Monday, where if you
- 15:34Speaker 1: had gone into the hitter Tron and just sordered by
- 15:36Speaker 1: home runs, you would have popped both those guys based
- 15:39Speaker 1: on availability. So the tools work. They come through for
- 15:44Speaker 1: you on your subscription. I highly suggest them, and especially
- 15:47Speaker 1: as you're into the thicket things right now, they are
- 15:49Speaker 1: reflecting everything in terms of weather, daily matchups, and recent performances,
- 15:55Speaker 1: so they've got all the considerations that you need to
- 15:58Speaker 1: make your daily lineup to say. Now, let's get into
- 16:02Speaker 1: the news and notes that happened in regular baseball that's
- 16:04Speaker 1: affecting our fantasy teams out there, and I think you're
- 16:09Speaker 1: gonna notice a theme for the first three, especially if
- 16:12Speaker 1: you're in those show notes, you'll see that they all
- 16:14Speaker 1: are reading the same. But we're gonna start in Cincinnati
- 16:18Speaker 1: where Ellie de la Cruz going down with a hamstring
- 16:20Speaker 1: strain and that is allowing Edwin Arroyo to come up
- 16:25Speaker 1: and play shortstop in his stead. It was an interesting
- 16:28Speaker 1: kind of development here for Ellie in terms of when
- 16:31Speaker 1: he got hurt on Sunday, They're like, oh, it's it's
- 16:35Speaker 1: just a minor hamstring strain. He'll play through it, and
- 16:37Speaker 1: you're just like, no, there's no way. But also maybe
- 16:41Speaker 1: considering what they made him play through last year, Edwin
- 16:44Speaker 1: or Royo was coming up with a pretty substellar line
- 16:49Speaker 1: in TRIPAA eleven homers, nine stolen bases, three twenty three,
- 16:53Speaker 1: three eighty three, five sixty two slash line a one
- 16:56Speaker 1: forty three WRC plus As a twenty two year old
- 16:59Speaker 1: down there.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I will say he does chase a lot.
- 17:02Speaker 1: He's got thirty seven percent swing percentage, which would be
- 17:05Speaker 1: like in the bottom twenty five.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Of the league.
- 17:10Speaker 1: And so we'll see how the profile holds up in
- 17:13Speaker 1: terms of getting to the majors, because all the projections
- 17:16Speaker 1: are also reflecting that right now where they've got him
- 17:19Speaker 1: over like a full season, he'd be about a ten
- 17:21Speaker 1: to ten player with a two to fifty average. So
- 17:24Speaker 1: what are you doing here with Ellie the rest of
- 17:25Speaker 1: the season in terms of what you might be doing
- 17:29Speaker 1: to discount that speed because of the hamstring strain, and
- 17:32Speaker 1: then what's your take on Edwin Royo joining the Reds.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think for Ellie you definitely have to,
- 17:39Speaker 2: you know, discount the speed. I don't know what number
- 17:43Speaker 2: you want to put on it, maybe call it like
- 17:44Speaker 2: a three quarters of what you would have expected the speed.
- 17:48Speaker 2: I gonna say it's been down already, but it has
- 17:50Speaker 2: been a little less of the last few seasons. So
- 17:53Speaker 2: you know, maybe we were going to end up with
- 17:57Speaker 2: a twenty steal Ellie. It's not going to be the
- 18:01Speaker 2: sixty seven steel La of twenty four, and we weren't
- 18:04Speaker 2: expecting that anyway, but you might end up with more
- 18:07Speaker 2: of the like I said, a twenty steel Ellie Della
- 18:10Speaker 2: Cruz here. And then you know, I think you have
- 18:14Speaker 2: to just assume that it's going to take him some
- 18:15Speaker 2: time to get back, and he is very much raw athleticism,
- 18:20Speaker 2: so he'll have some peaks and valleys when he gets back.
- 18:22Speaker 2: On the flip side, Arroyo here is. I think you're right,
- 18:27Speaker 2: he's got some some questions in the profile, but he's
- 18:30Speaker 2: looked really good this year and I think he's worth
- 18:33Speaker 2: a dart throw in any twelve teamer, maybe even a
- 18:36Speaker 2: ten teamer. Depends on deep that that league is. He
- 18:41Speaker 2: kind of makes me think of like a William Domas type,
- 18:45Speaker 2: you know, maybe maybe a high end outcome for him
- 18:49Speaker 2: as a Dancy Swanson. Like he's got some speed, he's
- 18:52Speaker 2: got some pop, you know his he does work the count,
- 18:55Speaker 2: he will take take a walk. So I do like
- 18:58Speaker 2: what I see here, and I think this isrobably the
- 19:00Speaker 2: best case for a scenario for him to get a
- 19:02Speaker 2: chance to play, because it was gonna be hard to
- 19:04Speaker 2: break in that lineup with how much hitting that they had,
- 19:07Speaker 2: and so this is a very clean Ellie's out Arroyo's in.
- 19:11Speaker 2: See how he plays. If the Royal does well, we're
- 19:13Speaker 2: going to see on the rest of the season, if
- 19:14Speaker 2: he kind of struggles and tries to figure the things out.
- 19:17Speaker 2: He's still young, he goes back to the miners, and
- 19:19Speaker 2: next year he's better for it because he'll be his
- 19:22Speaker 2: you know, he's twenty two, he's you go into twenty
- 19:24Speaker 2: three year old season next year.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Yep, I think I'm right there with you on a
- 19:27Speaker 1: Royal where certainly great pickup anywhere where, especially you know,
- 19:31Speaker 1: if you had La go down, you can add him
- 19:33Speaker 1: just easy plug and play. And then I mean, there
- 19:36Speaker 1: is certainly the downside where he struggles and goes back down,
- 19:40Speaker 1: but there's also the upside where he plays well enough
- 19:42Speaker 1: to overtake second base from Matt McClain long term two.
- 19:45Speaker 1: So there is a lot of different pass with the arroyo,
- 19:48Speaker 1: and he's got enough talent to be able to take
- 19:51Speaker 1: that gamble to see what happens at m I before
- 19:53Speaker 1: you kind of make a full full right off of him.
- 19:57Speaker 1: If the o swing crops back up in the majors. Uh, okay,
- 20:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna go to Chicago. The White Sox Murataka Murakami
- 20:06Speaker 1: down with a hamstring strain, and this one was suffered
- 20:10Speaker 1: while running to first base, which was I joked about
- 20:12Speaker 1: this on the ras Ball podcast this past week, where
- 20:15Speaker 1: that is the mortal enemy of the Chicago White Sox
- 20:17Speaker 1: is running down the first base line. Just ask Eloy Jimenez, Luis,
- 20:21Speaker 1: Robert Jon Mancata, and now Munataka Murakami is amongst that group.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, you've gotten your money back on mrcami
- 20:29Speaker 1: already with his Tony Homer's two forty average and forty
- 20:32Speaker 1: RBIs and forty runs for where you drafted him. It
- 20:35Speaker 1: was a total w So, I mean he's not gonna
- 20:39Speaker 1: be You're not gonna be able to replace that level production,
- 20:41Speaker 1: but like you can find something like a Nate Low
- 20:44Speaker 1: or even in Andrew Vaughn's available in lots of leagues
- 20:47Speaker 1: to be able to make you do until Murakami comes back.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Or you could also pick up maybe.
- 20:53Speaker 1: His his replacement, which is Jacob Gondals, which we haven't
- 20:57Speaker 1: talked about him maybe like since his draft because he
- 21:02Speaker 1: came up as a shortstop and was out of Ole Miss.
- 21:06Speaker 3: A first round pick in twenty twenty.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Three, but was seen as more as like a glove first,
- 21:10Speaker 1: kind of light bat quick to the Major's draft pick,
- 21:14Speaker 1: and that's what he had proved to be up until
- 21:16Speaker 1: this year.
- 21:17Speaker 3: He certainly made a swing change.
- 21:18Speaker 1: He's definitely swinging it harder because you know the in
- 21:22Speaker 1: game power at a thirty forty graade on it on fangrafts.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Coming into the season, He's popped nineteen homers to go
- 21:29Speaker 1: with eight stolen bases in Triple A before the promotion.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Do keep in mind, though, that Charlotte plays pretty offensive heavy,
- 21:35Speaker 1: but still it was a three seventeen four, nineteen six
- 21:37Speaker 1: sixty eight slash line, a one to sixty eight.
- 21:40Speaker 3: WRC plus before he came up.
- 21:42Speaker 1: All all of the metrics on prospects Savant were up
- 21:45Speaker 1: this year as well too, and then he showed up,
- 21:48Speaker 1: and you can see that he's probably got about league
- 21:50Speaker 1: average bat speed, which I don't think he probably had
- 21:54Speaker 1: before this year. I haven't seen a metric of like
- 21:57Speaker 1: his bat speed prior to this year, but all the
- 22:00Speaker 1: indications are that they're up for Jacob Gonzalez through sixteen
- 22:04Speaker 1: plate appearances as we're speaking, a two eighty six three
- 22:07Speaker 1: seventy five, two eighty six slash line. But you know,
- 22:10Speaker 1: he's keeping the strikeouts in check enough if I think
- 22:13Speaker 1: if he can keep it under thirty percent, he can
- 22:16Speaker 1: hang and he's going to play first base, I think
- 22:18Speaker 1: until Marrakami is back. So what's your take on Murakami
- 22:22Speaker 1: long term for the rest of the season and what
- 22:23Speaker 1: you're doing Jacob Gonzales as well.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I think Murakami, like he comes back, I think
- 22:29Speaker 2: he's gonna be the guy that we've seen. I you know,
- 22:32Speaker 2: his game's not speed, so I'm not terribly concerned that
- 22:35Speaker 2: is really going to be a big thing. But you know,
- 22:39Speaker 2: maybe the recovery time is good. Get some some time
- 22:43Speaker 2: to study things up, and he comes back just as
- 22:45Speaker 2: good as ever because he was on a crazy pace
- 22:47Speaker 2: and I don't see any reason why it should continue.
- 22:49Speaker 2: On the other side, Gonzales, he's intriguing to me. Definitely.
- 22:53Speaker 2: If I'm picking between like a Royo and Gonzales, I'm
- 22:58Speaker 2: going to Royo Gonzales. He's shown some pop this year.
- 23:02Speaker 2: The big concerning thing for him is he's not a
- 23:06Speaker 2: big fly ball power guy. This year in Triple A
- 23:09Speaker 2: his home run for a flyball rate is thirty percent.
- 23:12Speaker 2: That's like Aaron Judge esk. His career is roughly five percent.
- 23:16Speaker 2: That's a six x on it. And I know he's mature,
- 23:18Speaker 2: he's improved his swing things like that, but that's just unsustainable.
- 23:22Speaker 2: And so I think he's more of a high floor,
- 23:24Speaker 2: low ceiling type guy. Am I that I'd be kind
- 23:27Speaker 2: of intrigued by playing with it if you can get
- 23:29Speaker 2: him cheap. Maybe more of a deeper league kind of guy.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Like if I'm going for comps again here, I'm thinking
- 23:35Speaker 2: like a Brandard Crawford type of the guy. This a
- 23:37Speaker 2: little bit, you know, good across the board, maybe a
- 23:40Speaker 2: little bit above average, but just it's like he's the
- 23:43Speaker 2: kind of guy they're like, Yeah, I mean, I'm okay
- 23:45Speaker 2: if I end up with him, But I'm not like,
- 23:46Speaker 2: he's not like your planet a ever. That's kind of
- 23:48Speaker 2: what I see with jac and Gonzalez if things hit.
- 23:51Speaker 2: But hey, you're the White Sox guy, so you know
- 23:53Speaker 2: all of this better than I do, so I have
- 23:55Speaker 2: to trust you on it.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think he can be Okay.
- 24:00Speaker 1: It's gonna be very much like Colson Montgomery E And
- 24:04Speaker 1: that can maybe work and it might not work. So
- 24:06Speaker 1: it's a pretty hard line I think to walk, and
- 24:10Speaker 1: I think he will be worth adding in most leagues
- 24:15Speaker 1: Jacob Gonzalez that is, but also yeah, lower on the
- 24:18Speaker 1: priority list compared to Edwin Arroyo. I would also be
- 24:21Speaker 1: seeking out maybe other options that are available before I
- 24:25Speaker 1: dip into Jacob Gonzales, where I have no problem, just
- 24:28Speaker 1: like pulling the trigger on Edwin Arroyo immediately is and
- 24:30Speaker 1: am I.
- 24:32Speaker 2: No, I'm what, I'm right with you, okay.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Next piece of news, we have Taoscar Hernandez down with
- 24:38Speaker 1: a hamstring injury for the Dodgers, as he is the
- 24:42Speaker 1: third in our hamstring injury trio. Before this, he was
- 24:46Speaker 1: just Taoscar Hernandez, so it was set in and forget it.
- 24:49Speaker 1: You know, it's obviously goes hot and cold, but like
- 24:53Speaker 1: by the end of a three year period, it's always
- 24:55Speaker 1: going to be thirty homers with like at two sixty
- 24:58Speaker 1: five average in mid eighties runs a RBI, so you're
- 25:01Speaker 1: not dropping ta Oscar probably where you got him in
- 25:04Speaker 1: his stead in the majors. The Dodgers have called up
- 25:08Speaker 1: first baseman corner outfielder Ryan Ward, who may be known
- 25:13Speaker 1: to listeners out there because he put up an insanely
- 25:17Speaker 1: bonkers twenty twenty five Minor league season at Triple A
- 25:20Speaker 1: with thirty six homers, sixteen stolen bases two ninety three
- 25:24Speaker 1: eighty five p fifty seven slash line. He was doing
- 25:27Speaker 1: just about the same thing with six homers and six
- 25:29Speaker 1: stolen bases before.
- 25:30Speaker 3: The call up this year.
- 25:32Speaker 1: The caveat is he's a twenty eight year old, kind
- 25:34Speaker 1: of low defense, low ceiling corner guy that like this
- 25:40Speaker 1: is your typical classic quad A guy, but in the
- 25:44Speaker 1: middle of the Dodgers' lineup. It should be on the
- 25:46Speaker 1: strong side of platoon, probably hitting eighth most of the time,
- 25:49Speaker 1: eighth or seventh somewhere in the towards the bottom. That's
- 25:52Speaker 1: still the Dodgers lineup, So there's certainly some utility in
- 25:56Speaker 1: L in L only leagues right now while Taoscar is out.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Do you think you would be picking up Ryan Ward
- 26:02Speaker 1: in anything shallower than that?
- 26:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I I'm I think he's a guy
- 26:08Speaker 2: worth a flyer if you need a utility bat or
- 26:10Speaker 2: something like that, because it is the Dodgers lineup. He
- 26:13Speaker 2: does have some pretty good power, but he's nothing like
- 26:16Speaker 2: to write home about, Like he's not he's not the
- 26:19Speaker 2: fastest swinger, he doesn't hit the ball incredibly hard. He
- 26:23Speaker 2: just he's a really smart player. And you know, if
- 26:26Speaker 2: he was really this other world talent they could plug in,
- 26:29Speaker 2: he would have been up long long ago. And you
- 26:32Speaker 2: can see that they're just they're just giving a shot
- 26:34Speaker 2: and really didn't see what they with ta Oscar. Really,
- 26:37Speaker 2: the piece that I'm interested in is this, is this
- 26:39Speaker 2: the tipping point for like a James tips you know,
- 26:42Speaker 2: That's That's really what I'm kind of watching for. Is
- 26:44Speaker 2: Ward gonna do enough while he's up in this tay
- 26:46Speaker 2: Oskar going to come back, you know in four to
- 26:48Speaker 2: five weeks or does James Tibbs get a chance, and
- 26:51Speaker 2: that's the bat that I'm very excited about because that's
- 26:53Speaker 2: a potential twenty five thirty homer bat the way things
- 26:56Speaker 2: have looked so Ryan Ward, Yeah, plug him in, maybe
- 27:01Speaker 2: a deep twelve team fifteen teamer if I'm looking for
- 27:03Speaker 2: a utility corner guy that I end up with injuries.
- 27:07Speaker 2: But beyond that, I'm more look at the tea leaves
- 27:10Speaker 2: open praying for James Tibbs entrance.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think it would have been Tibbs,
- 27:15Speaker 1: except for I did read today that, like I guess,
- 27:17Speaker 1: Tibbs has been nursing something minor and only dhing and
- 27:21Speaker 1: obviously they don't really have a DH spot famously open
- 27:25Speaker 1: in Los Angeles.
- 27:26Speaker 3: You know, it's a little occupied by somebody named.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Somebody, And so.
- 27:32Speaker 3: If Tibbs was able.
- 27:33Speaker 1: To play the field, it's possible he might have gotten
- 27:35Speaker 1: this call over ward. So something to keep in mind
- 27:38Speaker 1: that if you see Tibbs starting to play the field
- 27:40Speaker 1: again in minor league games, might be worth an ad
- 27:44Speaker 1: even in like twelve teamers, because the power has been
- 27:47Speaker 1: unreal for James Tibbs this year, and if he can
- 27:50Speaker 1: get into that outfield and try to carve out a
- 27:52Speaker 1: little bit of playing time and prove himself. There's no
- 27:55Speaker 1: reason for the Dodgers not to just keep riding him,
- 27:58Speaker 1: so good name. There next injury we have. This one's
- 28:02Speaker 1: a doozy and I don't it's I can't tell where
- 28:06Speaker 1: my panic meter is at it. Sometimes it's really low
- 28:08Speaker 1: and sometimes it's like through the roof.
- 28:10Speaker 3: I'm talking.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Connor Griffin has gone on the IL with a flexer
- 28:14Speaker 1: strain in his right arm, and so it's we don't
- 28:19Speaker 1: even really have a great timeline, Honestly, I've been trying
- 28:21Speaker 1: to poke around and find one, but the pirates have
- 28:24Speaker 1: come out and said that the aisle stay is going
- 28:26Speaker 1: to be a short one. This is an injury where
- 28:28Speaker 1: we talk about all the time on the pitching side.
- 28:30Speaker 1: It's a precursor to Tommy John surgery. It's a precursor to
- 28:33Speaker 1: elbow issues obviously, Like you can play through it a
- 28:37Speaker 1: little bit more as a as a hitter, and they
- 28:40Speaker 1: could try to DH him in Pittsburgh, but they do
- 28:43Speaker 1: have Marcel Zuna around and on top of it, Like,
- 28:46Speaker 1: you don't know exactly how a flexer strain can still
- 28:50Speaker 1: impact a guy at the plate, especially considering he's a
- 28:54Speaker 1: right handed batter, so it is where the power will
- 28:57Speaker 1: come from for Connor Griffin. So before the Iel stint
- 29:01Speaker 1: was living up to every expectation two seventy three, twenty seven,
- 29:05Speaker 1: four oh two with four homers and fourteen stolen bases.
- 29:08Speaker 1: I mean, I guess maybe there are some people who
- 29:10Speaker 1: wanted him to be like the second coming of Prime
- 29:13Speaker 1: a Rod, But I think this is what you would
- 29:17Speaker 1: have recently accepted if you had given the Connor Griffin
- 29:23Speaker 1: kind of outcomes of the year. That lots of stolen bases,
- 29:26Speaker 1: the bit of pop and a two seventy average. Fantastic
- 29:29Speaker 1: for a twenty year old. So what are you doing
- 29:30Speaker 1: with Griffin? Are you worried about this in terms of
- 29:33Speaker 1: it may be leading to an elbow surgery? Or are
- 29:36Speaker 1: you taking the pirate's word for it?
- 29:38Speaker 2: Yeah, this is this is a tough one because you
- 29:41Speaker 2: are playing with fire. If you're in all my comments
- 29:44Speaker 2: are for re draft leagues. If you're in a dynasty
- 29:47Speaker 2: keyper situation, don't even think about it. Don't even be
- 29:50Speaker 2: playing games.
- 29:50Speaker 3: There's no way you can't be.
- 29:51Speaker 1: No.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Yeah, but from a redraft perspective, it's not is a
- 29:56Speaker 2: non zero chance that you do not see Connor Griffin
- 29:59Speaker 2: in this year. Now, I'm not saying that that's a
- 30:01Speaker 2: high chance, and we're probably talking single digits, maybe a
- 30:03Speaker 2: ten percent chance or something like that, because that flecture
- 30:06Speaker 2: tendons dream can be a doozy again, they actually spend
- 30:10Speaker 2: a short time, but not getting all the details is
- 30:13Speaker 2: a little concerning. And so this is the one situation
- 30:16Speaker 2: if you're not hurting for speed, that I think you
- 30:20Speaker 2: actually can get probably an overpay for Connor Griffin because
- 30:25Speaker 2: you know, you can easily sell this as, hey, I
- 30:28Speaker 2: need more power, right, needs something different from position, and
- 30:33Speaker 2: I'm not going to wait for him to get back.
- 30:34Speaker 2: And somebody else is gonna want to pay for Connor
- 30:37Speaker 2: Griffin because they missed out the drafty. They wish they
- 30:39Speaker 2: had a chance for him. They still think he's the
- 30:41Speaker 2: next great thing. So I think you can actually turn
- 30:44Speaker 2: them around with a pretty decent profit and kind of
- 30:46Speaker 2: get a dollar I'm a dollar type of thing for
- 30:49Speaker 2: for Condor Griffin or even more, because there are a
- 30:51Speaker 2: lot of people out there that they're still thinking is
- 30:54Speaker 2: that there's gonna be a rod this year, right, I
- 30:56Speaker 2: think that's that's very true. For a lot of people.
- 30:58Speaker 2: So I'm actually willing to shop counter Griffin regraft leagues
- 31:02Speaker 2: with this news. Do I say he's gonna miss the season? No,
- 31:07Speaker 2: But I but when those news comes out next week
- 31:11Speaker 2: and it says that, I'm not overly shocked either. And
- 31:14Speaker 2: so that's one of those ones where I think you
- 31:16Speaker 2: have to be willing to gamble and when you're wrong,
- 31:20Speaker 2: oh well, but the chances you're right, you actually came
- 31:24Speaker 2: out like abandoned.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think it's a fine line to walk.
- 31:28Speaker 1: It will depend a lot on the rest of your
- 31:31Speaker 1: team and kind of where you are in the standings
- 31:32Speaker 1: and everything. I don't know if I'm quite paulsy enough
- 31:36Speaker 1: to pull off something like that, but it could be
- 31:39Speaker 1: a boom. So something to consider if you're out there
- 31:41Speaker 1: sitting on Griffin in a redraft league, like you said,
- 31:44Speaker 1: if you're in a keeper dynasty situation, it's a no go.
- 31:46Speaker 1: It's a non starter trying to even approach the Hunter
- 31:49Speaker 1: Griffin owner. So something to keep in mind as we
- 31:54Speaker 1: get through the next.
- 31:54Speaker 3: Few weeks and get our next update.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Like I think that'll be the biggest thing on Griffin
- 31:58Speaker 1: is seeing how it progressed and when he actually gets
- 32:01Speaker 1: back to thrown a little bit. Next injury, we are
- 32:05Speaker 1: going to Miami where Uri Perez hurt himself stretching after
- 32:11Speaker 1: like he was in the middle of a fantastic start.
- 32:14Speaker 1: It had been tough for eury Perez owners out there.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Through mid May he had put up a five thirty
- 32:20Speaker 1: three ERA and then you know, in late May he
- 32:24Speaker 1: had a great outing against the Mets, one run over
- 32:26Speaker 1: six and a third and then was cruising against the
- 32:28Speaker 1: Blue Jays nine k's four shutout innings. Decide to try
- 32:32Speaker 1: to loosen himself up in the dugout in between innings
- 32:35Speaker 1: and strained what's called I think it grassillis muscles.
- 32:39Speaker 3: What they're calling it officially, it's a groin muscle.
- 32:41Speaker 1: It's you don't need to get more specific than it
- 32:45Speaker 1: being a groin muscle. But he must have torn the
- 32:47Speaker 1: heck out of it because he is out roughly eight
- 32:51Speaker 1: weeks so two ish months, which could shut him down
- 32:56Speaker 1: for most of the season because he's gonna need a
- 32:59Speaker 1: three probably two or three rehab start stint to be
- 33:03Speaker 1: able to get back up to speed.
- 33:06Speaker 3: So it's tough out there.
- 33:07Speaker 1: And what are you doing with fury Prez, Because I mean,
- 33:10Speaker 1: I think he's probably cutable, but the talent has been
- 33:13Speaker 1: tremendous and we saw it before he went down with
- 33:16Speaker 1: this injury.
- 33:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't want to cut your Perez, but it's
- 33:20Speaker 2: not like the worst decision if you have, if you're
- 33:22Speaker 2: kind of back into that corner. You know, from an
- 33:24Speaker 2: overall performance perspective this year, like, yeah, the strikeouts are there,
- 33:28Speaker 2: but the whip's beIN up. He's just not gonna win
- 33:31Speaker 2: games for the Marlins. You know, his his peripheral stats
- 33:36Speaker 2: have been a little questionables. Fit's then over four and
- 33:41Speaker 2: you know he's had a little bit of luck, and
- 33:42Speaker 2: so you can you can kind of look on the
- 33:44Speaker 2: side and say, yeah, that plus an injury, I'm not
- 33:46Speaker 2: really gonna jump to try to do everything to retain
- 33:50Speaker 2: the guy. So I'm willing to see that the cut.
- 33:52Speaker 2: This is just tough for the Marlins though they started
- 33:54Speaker 2: the season with such an amazing depth of rotation that
- 33:57Speaker 2: actually dealt to glay guys like Ryan Weather, and with
- 34:01Speaker 2: all the injuries and things like that, and you know,
- 34:03Speaker 2: they wanted to try to Brad Sandiella Cantero. So it'll
- 34:07Speaker 2: be interesting to see what this means. It looks like
- 34:09Speaker 2: the Marlins are going to have to packing things in soon,
- 34:12Speaker 2: sooner than they expect. But yeah, Ury Perez, he's for
- 34:15Speaker 2: the fantasy game. Not much more of this year than
- 34:17Speaker 2: I would rely on. Yep.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Okay, Well, we've got some prospects. First, We've got some
- 34:22Speaker 1: pretty big injuries to discuss. We've got Aiden Miller, shortstop
- 34:25Speaker 1: from the Philadelphia Phillies, their number one overall prospect. Has
- 34:30Speaker 1: been battling a back issue that has lingered since last
- 34:33Speaker 1: year on him actually, and finally underwent surgery. They're saying
- 34:37Speaker 1: it's all relatively minor, so on and so forth, but
- 34:40Speaker 1: we're talking about a twenty one year old dude already
- 34:43Speaker 1: battling back issues in the minor leagues. It was a
- 34:46Speaker 1: fantastic twenty twenty five season where he hit two sixty
- 34:51Speaker 1: four three ninety two four thirty three across two levels,
- 34:54Speaker 1: with fourteen homers in fifty nine stolen bases over one
- 34:58Speaker 1: hundred and sixteen games. I'll admit I've never been a
- 35:01Speaker 1: huge Ada Miller guy. I think it's a speed profile
- 35:06Speaker 1: with it's a lot of It's like Anthony Volpie slash,
- 35:11Speaker 1: a little bit juiced by double A reading, which really
- 35:15Speaker 1: We've seen him multiple times now over the years, and
- 35:18Speaker 1: I'm surprised that people haven't fully adjusted where double a
- 35:21Speaker 1: writing will boost the heck out of everybody's numbers. It's
- 35:24Speaker 1: done it to many many a Phillies prospects, from Scott
- 35:28Speaker 1: Kingrid to Dominic Brown and many many others. So yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 1: as you can tell, I've always been lukewarm on Ada
- 35:36Speaker 1: Miller just as an overall profile and kind of like
- 35:39Speaker 1: watching any of the tape I see on him. But
- 35:42Speaker 1: what do you think about Miller? Is this may be
- 35:44Speaker 1: a chance to buy in if you have some interest,
- 35:48Speaker 1: or is the back surgery and the back issues just
- 35:51Speaker 1: a total non starter for you?
- 35:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I'm kind of like you. I've never
- 35:55Speaker 2: really been high on Miller. And as I kind of
- 35:59Speaker 2: look at this, I mean having any procedure called radio
- 36:03Speaker 2: frequency ablation of the facet joints. First of all, I
- 36:07Speaker 2: don't know what that means, but it doesn't sound I
- 36:10Speaker 2: want to see it.
- 36:11Speaker 1: It's just like it's just like the grassless muscle or whatever.
- 36:14Speaker 1: It's like, what is this actually? Are they just like
- 36:17Speaker 1: putting like one of those like thera guns against his
- 36:20Speaker 1: back or what do they do?
- 36:21Speaker 2: They're just like doing cuppying on his back or something like.
- 36:23Speaker 2: That's all they're doing. But like, you know, to your point,
- 36:27Speaker 2: the Phillies have not been great at developing prospects, whether
- 36:29Speaker 2: it's ready or whatever it may be. And his profile
- 36:34Speaker 2: has been the speed profile. He's not been a very
- 36:37Speaker 2: efficient uh baserunner in the minors, and so I think
- 36:40Speaker 2: a lot of things. You know, there's there's some risk
- 36:42Speaker 2: in that profile. And then you add back injuries and
- 36:44Speaker 2: I can't remember a guy that like you have like
- 36:49Speaker 2: back injuries and all of a sudden, the rest of
- 36:50Speaker 2: his career was like great, Yeah, Like I think our
- 36:53Speaker 2: you know, our exhibit A is always Christian Yelich, and
- 36:56Speaker 2: it's like, you know that he's awesome, and he's gonna
- 37:00Speaker 2: this time almost every year just because his back hurts. Like, yeah,
- 37:05Speaker 2: you don't want the twenty two year old or whatever
- 37:08Speaker 2: with the that back like And so I'm concerned here.
- 37:12Speaker 2: I probably would not be Chasey Miller. I wasn't big
- 37:14Speaker 2: on the first place, but this not being able to
- 37:17Speaker 2: make it through a minor league season and have to
- 37:20Speaker 2: stop for back surgery for your top prospect is very
- 37:24Speaker 2: concerning to me. So I'm gonna steer clear. I'd be
- 37:28Speaker 2: offloading if I had.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Okay, I think I agree with all those points. The
- 37:33Speaker 1: other injury, we had another top prospect, this time for
- 37:35Speaker 1: the Colorado Rockies. Their number one pick and fourth overall
- 37:40Speaker 1: from last year. Ethan Holliday went down with surgery on
- 37:44Speaker 1: a stress fracture in his left foot. So he's actually
- 37:47Speaker 1: out for the entire season after this stress fracture injury
- 37:51Speaker 1: and surgery. I mean, he was hitting really well at
- 37:55Speaker 1: low A before this, and it's good h level. He
- 37:58Speaker 1: was only nineteen years old. It was a two sixty
- 38:01Speaker 1: two three ninety five five p fifty seven slash line,
- 38:03Speaker 1: was a one thirty five WRC plus nine home runs
- 38:07Speaker 1: with thirty two ribis in thirty two games. A little
- 38:10Speaker 1: bit more swing and miss than you'd like to see,
- 38:12Speaker 1: the contact rate only like seventy two ish percent and
- 38:15Speaker 1: the k rate around twenty eight percent, but.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Has good commanded the zone.
- 38:20Speaker 1: So I think the other thing too is you have
- 38:22Speaker 1: to adjust like he's certainly closer to the nat Holiday
- 38:26Speaker 1: end of the spectrum than he is on the Jackson
- 38:28Speaker 1: Holiday end the spectrum. Ethan Holiday is bigger than Jackson
- 38:34Speaker 1: and Ethan Holiday just also has the power profile where honestly,
- 38:38Speaker 1: I think he probably settles more as like a power
- 38:41Speaker 1: hitting third baseman at his peak. But what are you
- 38:44Speaker 1: doing here with Holiday? Because the swing and miss has
- 38:48Speaker 1: certainly kept a decent number of folks away, especially in
- 38:52Speaker 1: FYPD drafts. He probably fell more than you would expect
- 38:55Speaker 1: compared to his prospect rankings and his uh clout with
- 39:00Speaker 1: the card collecting game. But he is who he is too, Like,
- 39:04Speaker 1: this is a dude who's going to be a power
- 39:06Speaker 1: back in Colorado at peak when he gets through the system.
- 39:09Speaker 1: So when is your take on Ethan Holiday and especially
- 39:12Speaker 1: his future with this surgery?
- 39:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I think this is more of the
- 39:16Speaker 2: watch type of thing to see. Is this kind of
- 39:18Speaker 2: a one off type of thing? You know? Back injuries
- 39:20Speaker 2: are one thing, like we talked with Miller, But I
- 39:23Speaker 2: also have to say that stress fractures in the feet
- 39:27Speaker 2: tend to be something that seems to kind of come
- 39:29Speaker 2: and remain as well. So I'm a little concerned with that.
- 39:33Speaker 2: But he's still nineteen. We still got a long way,
- 39:35Speaker 2: Like we weren't expecting anything from him from pro probably
- 39:38Speaker 2: like three years, and he looked like he was you know,
- 39:41Speaker 2: adjusting to single a ball. So I'm not terribly concerned.
- 39:45Speaker 2: I think the biggest thing is what the Rockies are
- 39:46Speaker 2: doing or they need to get him healthy. There's not
- 39:48Speaker 2: like any timetable associated They're not trying to do anything special.
- 39:52Speaker 2: The fact that he's missing games in the minors right
- 39:54Speaker 2: now is not really big deal. We're really, like I said,
- 39:57Speaker 2: three years out on Ethan Holiday, and I I think
- 40:00Speaker 2: you're right, Like I almost look at like the the
- 40:02Speaker 2: spectrum of Matt Holiday, Jackson Holiday, and I feel like
- 40:04Speaker 2: he's on the opposite end of both of those because
- 40:07Speaker 2: I feel like both of them.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Are a little bit more holiday triangle.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Holiday triangle. I like that you got the the skill set,
- 40:14Speaker 2: the bad Neverge skill set and the power skill set,
- 40:16Speaker 2: the speed skill set, and the holiday. Seems like he
- 40:18Speaker 2: did get the bad average, he got way more power
- 40:20Speaker 2: and doesn't know how to run. And so it's really interesting.
- 40:24Speaker 2: But that's probably the best profile for Colorado if you're
- 40:28Speaker 2: if you're going to have it. So I still I
- 40:30Speaker 2: don't think this really changes my assessment of Holiday at
- 40:33Speaker 2: this point.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's all fair, And I mean I
- 40:35Speaker 1: think if you're actually a Holiday fan and you don't
- 40:38Speaker 1: have them, it might be a good time to inquire
- 40:41Speaker 1: in your dynasty and keeper leagues where yeah, it's not
- 40:43Speaker 1: like a griffin where like it's a total non starter
- 40:46Speaker 1: to even ask for holiday, where I think heath and
- 40:48Speaker 1: holiday can be had, and now that the owner probably
- 40:51Speaker 1: sees a major injury on there, the price is probably
- 40:54Speaker 1: discounted a touch. Okay, next bit of prospect news that
- 41:00Speaker 1: will round us up.
- 41:00Speaker 3: We've got one call up.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Well it's a set of callups, but only one of
- 41:03Speaker 1: them is super fantasy relevant. I just wanted to call
- 41:05Speaker 1: out the Cardinals called up this past week in both
- 41:08Speaker 1: Nelson Valasquez and Jimmy Crooks. I wanted to call out
- 41:11Speaker 1: the Flaskz because it was pretty sweet redemption against the
- 41:14Speaker 1: Cubs that the first pitch that he saw back in
- 41:16Speaker 1: the majors, Uh slammed a homer off of showed to
- 41:19Speaker 1: at Imanaga. So that was awesome to see this past weekend.
- 41:22Speaker 1: As you know, it was a great series between the
- 41:24Speaker 1: Cubs and the Cards, and I think it's gonna be
- 41:26Speaker 1: a fun summer between the two. The focus here is
- 41:29Speaker 1: Jimmy Crooks because Cooks is looking at pretty much full
- 41:36Speaker 1: time catching at bats, where he is slept to be
- 41:41Speaker 1: the strong side a platoon for the Cardinals for the
- 41:45Speaker 1: time being. He is a left handed hitter and before
- 41:49Speaker 1: his promotion he was hitting two sixty two, four twelve,
- 41:52Speaker 1: five sixty seven down at Triple A Memphis, so one
- 41:56Speaker 1: fifty two WRC plus with thirteen bombs, when previously his
- 42:00Speaker 1: career high in the season was fourteen last year over
- 42:04Speaker 1: ninety eight games at Triple A and so it is
- 42:09Speaker 1: looking like another changed profile in terms of Jimmy Crooks,
- 42:13Speaker 1: who especially came through the system as a glove first
- 42:16Speaker 1: defense first catcher. The power it's kind of developed to
- 42:19Speaker 1: where I mean this is actually an intriguing bat for
- 42:22Speaker 1: fantasy because if he can play most of the time
- 42:25Speaker 1: and get full time at bats as a left handed
- 42:27Speaker 1: hitter and hang at the major leagues, we might have
- 42:31Speaker 1: found somebody to help solve the catcher issue that we've
- 42:34Speaker 1: been running into and discussing over the past few weeks.
- 42:36Speaker 1: So what's your take on Jimmy Crooks. Do you think
- 42:38Speaker 1: he can swim or sink in this first Well, I
- 42:42Speaker 1: guess it's not his first go with the Cardinals, but
- 42:44Speaker 1: it's going to be a pretty extended run.
- 42:46Speaker 2: It looks like, yeah, I think he's definitely has potential value. Like,
- 42:50Speaker 2: let's be careful a little while the breaks here as
- 42:53Speaker 2: far as the overall power potential, Like we talked about
- 42:56Speaker 2: Jacob Gonzalez earlier and I kind of joked about it
- 42:58Speaker 2: as third percent home run to flat ball rate. Jimmy
- 43:01Speaker 2: Crooks has a forty five percent home run a fly
- 43:04Speaker 2: ball rate, so if he pops up, it goes out
- 43:06Speaker 2: of the park. So I think we have to be
- 43:08Speaker 2: a little cool in it there on the power. But
- 43:10Speaker 2: that's not say he doesn't have power. He does, you know,
- 43:12Speaker 2: hit a decent amount of fly balls. He does a
- 43:15Speaker 2: good job. He's a really more of a line drive hitter,
- 43:18Speaker 2: which is actually going to be great for the catcher position,
- 43:20Speaker 2: which is going to kind of boost up that that
- 43:21Speaker 2: batting average overall. But to your point, it's got then
- 43:25Speaker 2: this is guy that's going to be in a like
- 43:27Speaker 2: a decent lineup. The Cardinals, what six through nine hitter
- 43:32Speaker 2: has been dreadful this year, and so as long as
- 43:35Speaker 2: he's you know, batting six, he's got to on base
- 43:37Speaker 2: in front him. This should be really interesting. So I'm
- 43:40Speaker 2: willing to take a gamble here is it going to
- 43:42Speaker 2: work out. I don't know, but it looks like to
- 43:46Speaker 2: your point in the catcher's position, where it's become a
- 43:48Speaker 2: lot thinner, a lot faster. This is definitely a guy,
- 43:50Speaker 2: especially in two catcher leagues. You got to take a
- 43:52Speaker 2: take a gamble on and then kind of figure things
- 43:54Speaker 2: out later because the Cardinals really don't want to an
- 43:57Speaker 2: Herrera catch catching. Whether it's because of its catching or
- 44:01Speaker 2: it's just because you got to keep them healthy and
- 44:02Speaker 2: keeps that path of the lineup, but it's probably a
- 44:04Speaker 2: combination of both. I think Brooks is definitely worth worth
- 44:08Speaker 2: a low yep.
- 44:09Speaker 1: I think so too, where it's actually like I think
- 44:12Speaker 1: he follows actually pretty close to like a Carson Kelly
- 44:15Speaker 1: e like player. So if Carson Kelly is usable in
- 44:19Speaker 1: your fantasy league, then Jimmy Crooks is as well. So
- 44:22Speaker 1: all right, that's going to wrap us up for the
- 44:24Speaker 1: news and notes sections. We are going to take a
- 44:26Speaker 1: short break. Let you find those show notes to wherever
- 44:29Speaker 1: you're listening to us, because it's going to be important
- 44:31Speaker 1: when we come around after the break to discuss the
- 44:34Speaker 1: May Player of the Month PC Cards.
- 44:55Speaker 3: All right, welcome back everybody.
- 44:57Speaker 1: If it is your first time listening to us do
- 45:00Speaker 1: this Player of the Month PC. A little bit of
- 45:02Speaker 1: background for you. What we do every month is we
- 45:04Speaker 1: go buy MLB's Player of the Month awards and pick
- 45:08Speaker 1: two PC cards quote unquote. PC is personal collection in
- 45:13Speaker 1: baseball card collecting and the hobby, and so what we've
- 45:16Speaker 1: done is we've kept a long running list from when
- 45:19Speaker 1: we started this tradition on the podcast. You can find
- 45:22Speaker 1: it in the show notes. It's linked down there where
- 45:24Speaker 1: you can see all the different cards that we've put
- 45:26Speaker 1: in the PC.
- 45:27Speaker 3: So it's just a fun.
- 45:29Speaker 1: Commemoration of these players as well as something to follow.
- 45:33Speaker 3: Along and maybe invest in.
- 45:35Speaker 1: You know, we do certainly have plenty of high end
- 45:38Speaker 1: cards in that PC and one of ones that can't
- 45:41Speaker 1: be obtained, but we've also got some low end cards
- 45:44Speaker 1: and base cards, and you can find a version that
- 45:46Speaker 1: kind of suits your budget and what you want to do.
- 45:49Speaker 1: But I think this is a fun way to build
- 45:51Speaker 1: a collection too, because in the same vein of like
- 45:55Speaker 1: getting a binder full of all the Rookies of the
- 45:57Speaker 1: year or all the MVPs, if you do Player of
- 45:59Speaker 1: the Months and you collect some cool cards, I think
- 46:02Speaker 1: you can put together a pretty nice little collection that
- 46:04Speaker 1: will also hold as value because it's well sorted.
- 46:08Speaker 3: And well manicured.
- 46:09Speaker 1: So with that, go into those show notes though, because
- 46:13Speaker 1: you're gonna want to click into the related Raspball link
- 46:17Speaker 1: where you can see pictures of the cards we're going
- 46:19Speaker 1: to discuss. We're going to do our best to with
- 46:23Speaker 1: our dulcet tones to tell you how these cards look
- 46:25Speaker 1: and how they make us feel. But the best way to,
- 46:29Speaker 1: I think, follow along is to go to that rasball
- 46:31Speaker 1: post and look at the cards themselves while we're trying
- 46:34Speaker 1: to describe it. So brew with that intro, I know
- 46:38Speaker 1: you love this segment. You excited to get into some
- 46:41Speaker 1: player of Player of the Month awards.
- 46:44Speaker 2: I absolutely do. It's a fun way to look at
- 46:47Speaker 2: players in their cards that you don't typically look at.
- 46:50Speaker 2: And I think we have a fuse tonight where I
- 46:53Speaker 2: was surprised at the selection or lack thereof of the
- 46:56Speaker 2: players and that was fun, and that you have the
- 46:59Speaker 2: exact opposite in the spectrum with a few of them
- 47:01Speaker 2: as well, So this was definitely fun. I had a
- 47:04Speaker 2: blast kind of picking out cards for the PC and
- 47:07Speaker 2: I definitely tried to spread it across the price points.
- 47:10Speaker 2: I think I did a decent job here, and there's
- 47:12Speaker 2: a few that were into my mind, no brainers. I
- 47:14Speaker 2: think I got to the list first before you did,
- 47:16Speaker 2: so I think I may have stolen one of them.
- 47:20Speaker 2: And so we'll see as we go along.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, Okay, Well let's start on the al where
- 47:27Speaker 1: the hitter of the month for May was Nick Kurtz
- 47:30Speaker 1: of the Athletics, and it was pretty easy to see
- 47:34Speaker 1: why he had a forty eight game on bass streak
- 47:37Speaker 1: because this dude is just a walk machine. Nobody wants
- 47:41Speaker 1: to throw it into Nick Kurtz's happy zone, and no
- 47:45Speaker 1: wonder why, because he obliterates it every time it comes
- 47:48Speaker 1: in there. He hit three thirty three with five homers,
- 47:50Speaker 1: twenty six RBIs and a ten to twenty five ops.
- 47:53Speaker 1: But like I said, the walks have been crazy. Twenty
- 47:56Speaker 1: one walks in twenty eight games. He leads the league
- 48:00Speaker 1: in OBP at four forty and especially if you've drafted
- 48:04Speaker 1: him in an opp league, Dude, he is an absolute stalwart.
- 48:08Speaker 2: Like he's Joey Bottom. He is Joey Pretty.
- 48:11Speaker 3: That's a good point. Yeah, he's Joey Votto.
- 48:13Speaker 1: And we haven't even gotten through the warmest months in
- 48:15Speaker 1: Sacramento that this could be like Joey Voto plus so like. Certainly,
- 48:21Speaker 1: for all of the concerns that people had on the
- 48:24Speaker 1: Nick Kurtz profile coming into the year, I think he's
- 48:26Speaker 1: alieved a lot of them. He is the most often
- 48:30Speaker 1: PC person on the list that we're going to talk
- 48:33Speaker 1: about tonight, not of all time, that's Aaron Judge and Otani.
- 48:36Speaker 3: It's one of those two. I don't know, but Nick.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Kurtz has been in the PC three previous times for
- 48:42Speaker 1: Rookie of the Months and Rookie of the Year last year.
- 48:46Speaker 1: Where are you going where Nick Kurts this time?
- 48:49Speaker 2: Well, it was really tempting to and to her point,
- 48:51Speaker 2: we've got a lot of cards on him that there's
- 48:53Speaker 2: a lot of options that it was really tempting just
- 48:55Speaker 2: to like go into eBay and search Green because I
- 48:59Speaker 2: love that parallel that is green. But I held off
- 49:03Speaker 2: and I went with just a classic. I had to
- 49:05Speaker 2: go with the classic from a rookie perspective, so I
- 49:07Speaker 2: went with his twenty twenty five tops Heritage High Number
- 49:11Speaker 2: Real one Red inc Auto, which is out of seventy six.
- 49:16Speaker 2: For those that have listened to this podcast, they folks
- 49:20Speaker 2: all know We absolutely love our heritage real one autos.
- 49:24Speaker 2: The red autos are the more rare of the two.
- 49:27Speaker 2: They are hand numbered. I still don't know if they're
- 49:30Speaker 2: hand numbered by the player or somebody else. My guess
- 49:32Speaker 2: is somebody else. But the version I've linked showed out
- 49:36Speaker 2: as eight out of seventy six and is a wonderful
- 49:39Speaker 2: red signature. You can't really read the signature whatsoever. But
- 49:44Speaker 2: the thing I love about these cards is the old
- 49:46Speaker 2: card stock. It's the old card stock, and it feels
- 49:49Speaker 2: so real, harkening back to kind of our days as
- 49:52Speaker 2: we started collecting cards. And so this is a classic
- 49:55Speaker 2: to me. You know, if you want to go out
- 49:57Speaker 2: and buy one on emay, it's a pretty penny, a
- 50:00Speaker 2: little over two grand, so to buy these, I'm guessing
- 50:04Speaker 2: I haven't looked. I'm guessing they've got up recently based
- 50:07Speaker 2: on the performance. But this is this is a classic,
- 50:10Speaker 2: and these hold value. These absolutely hold value long term.
- 50:15Speaker 2: So I couldn't pass this one up. It was too easy.
- 50:17Speaker 1: Yeah, and because they just hit so many sweet spots
- 50:21Speaker 1: in terms of what people collect in the hobby. I mean,
- 50:23Speaker 1: one people try to put together this set of writing autos,
- 50:27Speaker 1: which is crazy two.
- 50:30Speaker 3: It's a high end rookie card. Three.
- 50:32Speaker 1: The nineteen seventy six design is beautiful, especially for the athletics.
- 50:36Speaker 1: You get you get the green, you get the yellow,
- 50:38Speaker 1: you get it in the border, and then you get
- 50:41Speaker 1: that little first Baseman logo. It's a it's a perfect
- 50:44Speaker 1: kind of match all across the board and you don't
- 50:47Speaker 1: even have to kind of the nice thing about the
- 50:48Speaker 1: card design too, is you don't have to worry about
- 50:50Speaker 1: it not including Oakland or Sacramento or whatever, where it's
- 50:53Speaker 1: not one of those weird cards where it looks strange
- 50:56Speaker 1: because it only says athletics.
- 50:58Speaker 3: So great choice. You can't go wrong with an on.
- 51:01Speaker 1: Card, red ink tops heritage auto of a rookiep.
- 51:05Speaker 2: Can't, hey, you go wrong. But so my point, did
- 51:08Speaker 2: you go with green because I was sentenced? Uh?
- 51:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I pretty much did.
- 51:15Speaker 1: I almost did that where, you know, going into eBay
- 51:19Speaker 1: and just typing Nick Kurtz card green. But then I
- 51:22Speaker 1: did remember that when we talked about Bowman in the preview,
- 51:27Speaker 1: when we did it a couple of weeks, how much
- 51:29Speaker 1: I loved the Electric Sluggers cards and this Nick Kurts
- 51:33Speaker 1: card slaps dude. It is I'm a sucker for anything
- 51:37Speaker 1: with lightning bolts, real and kind of cartoony lightning bolts
- 51:42Speaker 1: when it comes to cards, and this one delivers on
- 51:44Speaker 1: both ends. Plus you get the green background with the
- 51:48Speaker 1: yellow lightning bolts and the yellow jersey from Nick Kurtz.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Everything pops, it all marries up, and then you get
- 51:54Speaker 1: the mojo layered on top of it. It's only a
- 51:57Speaker 1: twenty five dollars card. It's a beautiful, beautiful car card,
- 52:00Speaker 1: and Yeah, I couldn't pass it up because everything about
- 52:04Speaker 1: this ticked every box that I think we'd like in
- 52:06Speaker 1: terms of our personal pieces. And I mean, honestly, I'm
- 52:10Speaker 1: pretty close to pulling the trigger on this twenty five
- 52:12Speaker 1: dollars card myself because it's a beauty.
- 52:15Speaker 2: And if you really want all the details in the back,
- 52:17Speaker 2: it reminds you that Nick Kurt's nickname is Big Ash.
- 52:22Speaker 2: And that's why I love bomings. They just give you
- 52:24Speaker 2: the little extras.
- 52:25Speaker 1: I will say, for some weird reason, I noticed this
- 52:28Speaker 1: because if you're going by the links that we have
- 52:30Speaker 1: down in the show notes too, the link that I've
- 52:33Speaker 1: got to on this card that's the back of his
- 52:37Speaker 1: regular twenty twenty six Bowman card.
- 52:39Speaker 3: It's not the.
- 52:39Speaker 1: Back of the Electric Sluggers card, so I was wondering, Yeah,
- 52:47Speaker 1: that would be cool if the back of the Electric
- 52:48Speaker 1: Slugger has had the normal Bowman back, But it is
- 52:51Speaker 1: to have something you know, more corny about being an
- 52:54Speaker 1: electric slugger and probably talking about slugging percentage. So you
- 52:58Speaker 1: will not get that back if you order this card,
- 53:00Speaker 1: which actually makes me more tempted to order the card
- 53:02Speaker 1: because I could order it, buy it, and then submit
- 53:05Speaker 1: one of those not the right product claims that may
- 53:08Speaker 1: get it for I know I've never done that. I've seriously,
- 53:11Speaker 1: I've never done that. That's nice, that's some nasty business,
- 53:15Speaker 1: but you know what I know people do that on
- 53:17Speaker 1: Evey constantly. Okay, over on the NL side, our player
- 53:21Speaker 1: of the month, our batter of the month, just like
- 53:24Speaker 1: we all predicted. JJ doble Day from the Cincinnati Reds
- 53:28Speaker 1: got called up on April twenty fifth and just went
- 53:32Speaker 1: blazing hot in May where we talked about this a
- 53:35Speaker 1: couple of weeks ago. It's just JJ bil Day with
- 53:37Speaker 1: just more power and it's all working right now. It
- 53:41Speaker 1: does not hurt that he's in Great American Ballpark, but
- 53:44Speaker 1: seems to have found a great fit with the Reds
- 53:47Speaker 1: former a himself. He hit three ZHO one with eight homers,
- 53:51Speaker 1: twenty five bombs and a ten eighteen ops in May.
- 53:55Speaker 1: And we've actually got quite the large backlog of JJ
- 53:59Speaker 1: bl Day cards to choose from because he was such
- 54:01Speaker 1: a huge prospect coming through college baseball and being the
- 54:05Speaker 1: fourth overall pick in twenty nineteen, so lots of options.
- 54:09Speaker 1: He's never been in the PC before. Where did you
- 54:11Speaker 1: go for JJ Bday?
- 54:15Speaker 2: Yeah? Well, with JJ, I literally would look just to
- 54:17Speaker 2: see if he had any cards really in a Reds jersey,
- 54:20Speaker 2: which I don't know why he would have, but he
- 54:21Speaker 2: does not unless there was the Tops now that I missed,
- 54:24Speaker 2: which is also very possibly just may not be out
- 54:26Speaker 2: there yet from a production perspective. So that means I
- 54:30Speaker 2: had to go to the Miners because I didn't want
- 54:31Speaker 2: to day jersey of anything else than the Reds because
- 54:36Speaker 2: everything else has not gone so well. And so I
- 54:39Speaker 2: went down to twenty twenty Tops Heritage Miners, and I'm
- 54:43Speaker 2: going with one of my favorite cards out there, and
- 54:46Speaker 2: it is the quarter Relic. It's out of fifty and
- 54:51Speaker 2: what you get with this is an actual genuine nineteen
- 54:54Speaker 2: seventy one US quarter built into the card as the relic.
- 55:00Speaker 2: Feels like there's something probably against US mint policy based
- 55:04Speaker 2: on this, but it is a just you know, we
- 55:07Speaker 2: love heritage. That's a black design got him with the hammerheads.
- 55:11Speaker 2: He just kind of almost like he's running in from
- 55:13Speaker 2: the outfield and it has a full on twenty five
- 55:16Speaker 2: cent quarter there. So if anything ever happens, you know
- 55:19Speaker 2: you've at least got twenty five cents invested in this card.
- 55:22Speaker 2: It's about twenty bucks on eBay, so one of the
- 55:24Speaker 2: cheaper ones we'll talk about tonight. But it's just such
- 55:27Speaker 2: such a cool, unique relic that I've loved and it
- 55:31Speaker 2: he kind of goes back to the did you do
- 55:33Speaker 2: the manufactured relic? Do you do a napkin relic? Do
- 55:35Speaker 2: you have a big patch? No, we just went completely
- 55:38Speaker 2: different and we put a quarter in a car why.
- 55:40Speaker 3: Yep, Yep.
- 55:41Speaker 1: It's a fantastic card and it's got the nineteen seventy
- 55:45Speaker 1: one kind of black border design with the post modern
- 55:48Speaker 1: kind of nineteen seventy one on it. It just works
- 55:50Speaker 1: really well with the black chaersey that he's wearing and
- 55:53Speaker 1: hammer heads across the top that like the Marlins have
- 55:56Speaker 1: some of the greatest names for their minor league affiliate.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Where I do this all the time in my writing.
- 56:02Speaker 1: Whenever I can say all the way out Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp,
- 56:06Speaker 1: I make sure I do it absolutely.
- 56:08Speaker 2: There's there's no reasons too, all right, Where did you
- 56:12Speaker 2: go with jj Okay?
- 56:13Speaker 1: Well, I went back to his college days, because, like
- 56:17Speaker 1: you said, there's no cards really of him in Red's
- 56:19Speaker 1: uniforms that I could find either, So they certainly will
- 56:22Speaker 1: be coming.
- 56:23Speaker 3: They'll be in tops.
- 56:24Speaker 1: Update in other products as we get them throughout the year,
- 56:28Speaker 1: especially if Jaja will day works his way into the
- 56:31Speaker 1: All Star Game. So I went back to his Vandy days.
- 56:34Speaker 1: I went with twenty nineteen Panini Prism draft. I've got
- 56:37Speaker 1: an auto out of there, and it's a great card
- 56:41Speaker 1: of just the Well, it's the Panini version of Mojo.
- 56:44Speaker 1: So it's called it's mislabeled in the eBay listing I
- 56:49Speaker 1: had it, it's called hyper Mojo and so of forty nine,
- 56:53Speaker 1: and it's got a sticker auto on it. This one
- 56:56Speaker 1: it's got the j's are a little bit cut off,
- 56:58Speaker 1: but you got your classic kind of Panini Prism design.
- 57:01Speaker 1: And you've got JJ badet in the black with gold
- 57:05Speaker 1: pin stripe Van Derbert Jersey where they didn't have to
- 57:08Speaker 1: photoshop this. They have an ncuable A license, so that's
- 57:11Speaker 1: a definite bonus from Panini. And he looks absolutely ripped
- 57:15Speaker 1: in this card. That like, he looks in better shape
- 57:18Speaker 1: from back in his draft year than he does now.
- 57:20Speaker 1: But I love this card from JJ Blada also got
- 57:23Speaker 1: a sneak you in a mustache. It's a sneaky little
- 57:26Speaker 1: mustache on it. Another twenty dollars card. So if you're
- 57:29Speaker 1: getting into JJ biday collecting, the time is now my friend.
- 57:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and what I want, I mean those bander built
- 57:36Speaker 2: jerseys there to die for. They're fantastic. To your point,
- 57:40Speaker 2: the fact that this is licensed from Paniti is just
- 57:44Speaker 2: great and it's I still find it surprise with how
- 57:47Speaker 2: well he's played this card. You know, his autos are
- 57:50Speaker 2: this reasonable at this point, so I think this is
- 57:54Speaker 2: a great pick, great ad PC.
- 57:56Speaker 1: Yep, Okay, let's get into those pictures. So on the
- 58:00Speaker 1: al side, this is quite the shock that he's back again.
- 58:05Speaker 1: He won a Rookie of the Month last year for US,
- 58:08Speaker 1: so he already or two years ago, so he already
- 58:11Speaker 1: has a PC selections, a couple of piece selections. I'm
- 58:15Speaker 1: talking Houston astro starting pitcher, current number one starting picture
- 58:19Speaker 1: of air rotation, Spencer Aarraghetty. The on field results were fantastic,
- 58:23Speaker 1: a point nine to three ERA with you know, including
- 58:28Speaker 1: a stretch where he allowed one run in thirteen and
- 58:32Speaker 1: third innings over including taking a no hitter into the
- 58:37Speaker 1: eighth inning against the Rangers on May fifteenth. Overall, though
- 58:43Speaker 1: the peripherals are pretty mid, it was a four nineteen FIP,
- 58:48Speaker 1: so the pendulum will swing back the other way for
- 58:51Speaker 1: certain on Spencer Araghetty. As you know, the k mis
- 58:54Speaker 1: BB was only four point two percent in May. It's
- 58:57Speaker 1: just that the babeb really worked out for it was
- 59:00Speaker 1: a fantastic little one sixty two batting average one ninety
- 59:04Speaker 1: seven babups. So don't get too high on your fantasy
- 59:07Speaker 1: horses with Spencer their Araghetty. But he turned the month
- 59:10Speaker 1: in of luck in for a Player of the Month
- 59:13Speaker 1: award in the al We've already taken two Arighetty cards
- 59:17Speaker 1: off the table. So where are you going?
- 59:20Speaker 2: Well, this is this is the one that I just
- 59:22Speaker 2: couldn't couldn't resist and actually was looking He's pitching tonight
- 59:25Speaker 2: and starting to Lady Horror runs.
- 59:28Speaker 3: He asked.
- 59:30Speaker 2: But this is the way I said, Like, when this
- 59:32Speaker 2: name came up, there was one card I had to
- 59:34Speaker 2: go look to make sure. And you know, I don't
- 59:35Speaker 2: like to look at our past PC picks, but I
- 59:38Speaker 2: had to go with the the one, the only. This
- 59:42Speaker 2: is my third heritage card row. So I'm on a roll. Yeah,
- 59:45Speaker 2: you are twenty five tops heritage nickname variation because Spencer
- 59:50Speaker 2: Araghetty's nickname is Spaghetti and so there's nothing like getting
- 59:55Speaker 2: the Spaghetti card with Spencer Araghetty. And that's all you
- 59:59Speaker 2: have to say. And we were to talk about the
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: design from twenty twenty five with Nick Kurtz red Ink Auto.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: It's the same exact design. It looks fabulous. Raghetty has
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: just a say, dumbfounded look after we threw a pitch.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: I'm not quite sure. Maybe you just got to lit
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: up for a home or maybe it how I got
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: so lucky to win the Player of the Month, I
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: don't know. But whenever I say Spencer Raghedty, the first
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: thing I think is Spaghetti and you just can't go
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: wrong with it. So I had to add the spaghetti
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: card to the.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: Piec Yeah, this thing's perfect.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: When I saw it, I was like, oh man, this
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: is such an amazing card. Also because like there's plenty
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: of people that probably pulled this and they're just like,
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: what the hell spaghetti? If you Alex Spencer Araghetti is
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: like a household MLB name, So there's probably some of
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: these that people don't even know they have. But what
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: a fantastic card. This is gonna go down I think
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: in terms of like cool cards of this era, this
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: spaghetti card I think has gotta be up there because spaghetti, man,
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: it's in.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: It's ten bucks, ten bucks on you if you we'll
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: get it right now.
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: Great choice. I love it all right?
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: Where'd you go to? Spencer? Uh?
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: Okay, Well, this is one of the guys when we
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: were talking about there's not a ton of choices. He
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: hasn't been in a lot of different sets because he's
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: just not a big name. He's not a terribly great pitcher.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: That it's kind of impressive that he came away with
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: this award considering all of the other pitching performances that
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: happened in May, but most of them happened in the
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: NL which is why he got away with it. I'm
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: going to tops Now twenty twenty four for his rookie card,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: especially this is the one that comes from his first
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: MLB career win, and it's just great because you get
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: the great action shot of arag Getty pitching in the
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: now defunct Space City uniforms, which it just kind of
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: works with the whole arag Getty get up. You know,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: he's got this long hair and this beard, and it
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: just is a lot of moving parts that is coming
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: at you when he's throwing. You get the sense of
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: that in the movement of this card. It's also a
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: relatively rare card. The print run on this card from
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: tops Now was only five h five again harkens back
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: just talking about this isn't a hot name in the
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: collecting world, Spencer Arraghetty, so there aren't many of these
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: out there. So it is going to run you like
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: forty to fifty bucks because there just aren't very many
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: copies of this tops Now card.
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: I know it's an easy choice.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: Going tops Now for rookie cards, but we didn't have
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: a lot of choices for Araghedtty. And you can't go
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: wrong with this if you actually are building a spencer
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: Araghetty PC.
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think you're right. I think the rarity
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: of some tops Now cards is rookies are a little surprising,
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: and with tops Now you always get a chance for
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: those parallels. So this is if you have kind of
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: like a PC player that's not the biggest name, that's
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: a fun way to go chase them. So this is
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: a good card. Well. The Space City City connect on
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: this as well, so definitely definitely a good ad.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Well on the NL side, I mean, technically it was
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: a race between two dudes, the Miz and Christopher Sanchez,
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: but it wasn't a contest that Sanchez here had.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: To win the award.
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: He did not allow a run in May thirty nine
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: inning with forty five ks to three walks and a
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: zero ERA. This is a case though, where there was
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: not very much luck involved. It was actually a two
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: sixty six babbot, which is pretty normal. Is a one
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: oh nine fifth. Christopher Sanchez is just pitching out of
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: his mind right now. Is currently on a stretch where
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: it's forty four and two third Scollers innings. He's pushing
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: up against the oral Herscheizer record already set the franchise
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: record breaking the great Grover Cleveland Alexander one of my
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: favorite immaculate grid names to use, especially if you're looking
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: for somebody to cover Cubs, Cardinals, and Phillies. Hall of
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: Famer checks every box. Christopher Sanchez checks a lot boxes
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: in terms of being a great pitcher. He's been in
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: the PC once before, he won one Player of the
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: Month award before. Where we again, this is a guy
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: who does not have a lot of cards available, but
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: after this year, he's about to have a bonanza of cards,
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: I think, because he's become one of the elite pitchers
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: in Major League Baseball.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: So with all those.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: Pieces laid out for you, where'd you go for Christopher
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: Sanchez to put a PC card?
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: Well, before we go there, he just had his streak
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: broken bottom Man Jackson Merrill broke at fifty and two
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: thirds innings scoreless for the fifth longest streak in MLB history.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: So yes, he had to win the award, there's no
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: question about it. But June's here, it's another month. Things
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: are things are a changeing. But and it wasn't the
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: seventh end of the game, So you was screwed, just fine,
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: But you're right, there were not a lot of cards
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: out here for Christopher Sanchez, and so I just I
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: went with an oldie, but of good as far as
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: one of my favorite parallels from recent sets. I'm going
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: to twenty twenty five Top Series one and I'm going
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: with the Team Logo border variation, which it's a twenty
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: dollars card. It's not a rookie or anything like that,
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: but I don't think I've found a team border Team
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: logo border variation I have not liked. It is just
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: such a cool design and it just pops, and I
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: just wanted something that just spit into that cool card,
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: and I didn't want to go on license, to be honest,
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: and so I'm going with the team logo version for
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: Christopher Sanchez here to add to the PC one dollar
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: card we're adding in for very reasonable prices today.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and I mean even though he's wearing the City
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: Connect jersey that doesn't really match with the red, it
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: works pretty well because there's a lot of blue on
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: this card.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: This is another one where I might have included it
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: myself if you didn't, because you can't go wrong with
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: one of these logo variations, and especially given the limited
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: number of choices that we had for Christopher Sanchez that
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: it was a great choice.
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: All right, where did you go with mister Sanchez?
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: Okay, well, I'm impressed that I dug this one up,
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: and this guy is probably well person, this person's probably
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: impressed that they still have this card and have it
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: dug up, because it is quite the doozy of a card. Now,
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: I found a twenty twenty two Panini Prism rookie autograph
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: of Christopher Sanchez in red red donut refractor here, So
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: if you're not familiar with all of the Panini Prism refractors,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: that's the one where you kind of get dots and
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: circles around it and it pops.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: It really does pop.
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: It's not it is unlicensed, but it's pretty well covered
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: up and you get apparently that's Christopher Sanchez's signature.
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: Nothing's brutal, let's be honest, but yeah, it is a
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: you kind of got the prism motif on the front.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: Where it's somewhere like yeah, I mean, somebody who's really
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: into new metal music certainly designed this card and put
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: a lot of different real kind of metal materials into it.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: It's of thirty five, so that's a weird number and
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: on top of it, it'll cost you one thousand dollars
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: right now, which whenever this card was pulled, it was probably.
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: Sitting in a dollar box.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: So the ROI on this card, for whoever has owned
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: it is been significant. It has gone through the eBay
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: authenticity process. So whoever has this, Yeah, so whoever has
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: this now did pay a few hundred bucks for this card.
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: But yeah, I.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: Bet who even like whoever pulled it originally is really
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: kicking themselves now that it's a thousand dollars card. But
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: nothing terribly fancy. But there's not a lot of choices
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: for Christopher Sanchez, and especially if you want an autographed
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: card of him, you can't go wrong with the color
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: match like this one.
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: No, No, you were absolutely right. This was this was
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: what I was seeing, was I was looking through Sanchez
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: like this. If you're going to pick an autograph, this
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: is going to be the one. Like I said, his
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: autograph needs some work. And for as amazing as he's
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: been the last few years, I'm shocked there's not more
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: cards of him. That's good. That's gonna change. That absolutely
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: has to change.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: So okay, well, let's move on to those Rookies of
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: the Month in the al Side and somebody we discussed previously,
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: it's none other than Munataka Murakami. A fantastic month from
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: him where he popped twelve homers or no, he added
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: eight homers in May, hit twelve in March and April
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: before that, and I mean, what.
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: Can you say.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: He's just been absolutely amazing. He's been in a stellar
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: power bat. He's been a stellar kind of presence in
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: terms of just all of the clips that you get
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: of him being so joyous in the dugout to where
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: Munataka Murakami is certainly the face of the White Sox
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: right now, and it's a bummer we don't get to
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: see him for a couple months. So we're just gonna
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: have to look at these cards we're gonna put on
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: our PC where you go in for Munataka Murakami.
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: I was so excited to get to add this card
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: to the PC. I debated if I should actually physically
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: add this card to the PC because it is amazing
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: and I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I am
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: going to some of my favorite things to do, which
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: is I'm to go across the pond to Japan. I'm
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: looking at the twenty twenty one BBM Genesis Combo jersey card,
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: which means it is moon To talking to Maria Kami
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: and Charioki Saito, who if you're paying attention right now,
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: was the MVP last year over in Japan and is
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: having a killer season this year. It is very likely
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: to be posted and following Murakami over, so you could
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: have two guys here on this card. It's a really
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: card out of thirty both kind of pen stripes, red
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: pin stripe for Murakami, black pin stripe for Cyto, and
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: you could have this card coming over with two guys
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: that are breaking out from Japan in the MLB, and
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: it could just go go nuts. And so I'm so
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: excited to have this one with a PC because Genesis
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: from BBM is just a classic, absolute classic kind of breakoff.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: I don't there's not really the comparison. Maybe like a
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: Tier one or a five star is kind of the
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: vibe get from Genesis, and it's just such a cool card,
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: and the relics and things like that are much harder
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: to come by over in Japan. So love adding this one.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: Two guys that I actually have collected over the last
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: few years and one I've not been able to gather
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: and if I had that, probably what it's sold by
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: now because it is going through the roof.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it is a sick card. You've got the dual patches.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: You've also got two stripes on it with the kind
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: of like it's like a Tier one motif in the
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: background where it's a black background. You got the players
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: back to back, and then like the gold leaf and
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: just I'm not quite sure exactly what you would call
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: those flowers and stuff, but it's a beautiful card. It's
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: also just very Japanese, where like, yeah, this is what
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: BBM cards look like, and it's tough to kind of
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: pinpoint exactly.
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: What it is.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not a design major or anything, so
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: if you do know the design, hit us up and
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: let us know.
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: But like it is, I love it. It's beautiful. What
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: a choice.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: It is going to be a pretty penny, but certainly
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: worth it if you're going to be playing in that
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: type of market.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: All right, where did you go? Because I know there
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: was a card number two on my list and I
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: think you picked card number two. It was on my list,
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: So where'd you go with Murakami?
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: Yeah, and this one.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: I mean, I think it was a pretty easy choice,
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: especially we're going back to twenty twenty six Bowmen, which
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: has been fantastic. By the way, Like I haven't ripped
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: any of it, but I've been enjoying watching people rip
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: it and see people's hits on Reddit, because it seems
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: like people are doing pretty well, especially with retail blasters.
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: Because one of the bigger cards that's been hit out
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: of the set actually surfaced on Reddit. I was inspired
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: by it to pick my card because somebody did hit
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: the Munataka Murakami anime Kanji variation and they posted a
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: picture of it about a week ago on Baseball Cards Reddit.
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: Then I don't know what they're up to, but hopefully
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: they're on a private island somewhere, because the first I
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: picked is not even the super super super short print
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: that the anime kanji one is. I just picked the
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: regular anime card, which is a two to three thousand
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: dollars card. Right now, if you're not familiar with what
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: the anime cards are is, you know, it's exactly what
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: it sounds like. It's an anime version of Moudataka Murakami
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: on it. It is technically a rookie card because it came
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: out in twenty twenty six Bowmen. Not very many rookie
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: cards available of Murakami right now because he wasn't in
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: Top Series one. And on top of it, it's kind
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: of got this TV background where it harkens back to
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: the nineteen fifties Bowman set where they had a different
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: design that had a TV kind of motif on it,
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: where the first anime cards that's what they use was
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: that old fifties Bowman design, and now they're using different TVs.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: So the one for this year's design is something I
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: would call maybe like a late eighties.
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: Television set, So it pops.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: This thing has got crazy broad appeal between the Japanese
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: card market, the American baseball card market, even people on
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: like the Pokemon side. I think I've been getting into
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: these anime cards. So it's going to be a pretty penny.
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: Like I said, it's a two to three thousand dollars card,
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: it's a super short print, and on top of it,
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: I don't know when it goes down because there's not
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: many of them out there, and it just hits all
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: the sweet spots for collectors.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a supply and the man with this one
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: and really started with Otani and his anime cards and
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: where they came through Bowman and we're kind of just
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: fall right in the same footsteps. And so yeah, this
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: is a great pick. I almost did this one until
- 1:13:37Speaker 2: I saw the other one and adds my PC. So
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: if you can, if you don't mind, just toss them,
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: you know, a grand my way. After you finished buying
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: this one, I'll pick up mine as well.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: Okay, okay, cool, no problem, All right, now we get
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: to the goofball.
- 1:13:50Speaker 3: TJ.
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: Rumfield won the Rookie of the Month. I'm just coming
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: down with it from the Colorado Rockies first baseman who
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: came over from the New York Yankees and has been
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: really successful with the Rockies, especially in.
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: May, put up.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: Four homers twelve RBI with a three ten batting average
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: eight eighty three OPS. He's addable in all fantasy leagues,
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: should be third and first base eligible in pretty much
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: every league too, where you can absolutely always stream him
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: at home. But he's been hitting well enough on the
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: road that he's actually a valuable corner infield piece for
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: our fantasy game. Pretty much no cards because he came
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: out of nowhere. And the way that he was acquired,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: you know, through just a really really minor trade where
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: a few arm just one arm on how Chavilli went
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: back to the Yankees. So this was not a big
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: prospect for the Yankees. But I mean, there's gonna be
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: a handful of cards here and there. Actually didn't even
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: get a first until Bowman twenty twenty six. That's how
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: under the radar he's been despite being drafted all the
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: way back in twenty twenty one by the Phillies.
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: So, like I said, not a lot of cards that pick.
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: But where'd you go for T. J. Rumdel?
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: Yeah, there was not a lot. And when there's not
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: a lot, I like to go to the miners and
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: see what they got. And that's where I stuck. I
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: went with the twenty twenty two Choice Sports cards his
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: Hudson Value Renegades card number twenty four and it's an
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: in person Autumn and so somebody went out there and
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: added the value to the card to bring it up
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: to roughly what's available now is at forty dollars card
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: because there's really nothing out there. I've noticed this with
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: a few players that really have really thin early cards,
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: is that things like this all of a sudden become
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: the value because it doesn't get supply and demand. And
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: this is Rumfield. The stat line in the back of
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: his card is twenty seven games, zero homers, zero steals.
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: He hit one double in seventy six at bats, so
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: you could tell he was really trying to figure things
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: out at single a clear water there the year before
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: getting the Hudson Valley. And he looks like a little kid.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: He looks like a little kid getting ready to go
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: up to bat. There he's got the long under armour on,
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: and yeah, it's just cool to see somebody's coming up
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: and then all of a sudden making some of them themselves.
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: And I wanted to leave the bowl and pick it
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: to you, but I think this is just a cool,
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: kind of cool first card to get and there's not
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: gonna be money out there. The TJ. Rumfield autographed with
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: the Renegades because he was not he was he was
- 1:16:28Speaker 2: not the be's knees with the Renegade.
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: No, absolutely not.
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: I mean certainly, I think he's probably about to have
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: a Rockies rookie card and update with this performance, so
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: he's probably locked that in for himself and we'll probably
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: have some rookie autos. So if you're looking for stuff
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: for T. J. Rumfeld, they'll probably be coming out later
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: this year. But if you want license products for this year,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: I'm going back to twenty twenty six Bowmen. Like you said,
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: he had the first and autos in twenty twenty six Bowmen,
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: he was so like under the raid and the deal
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: to the Rockies was so like just.
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: Out of nowhere.
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: I mean, I guess they executed it well before that
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: was printed, but it was in late eight or late
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: March during spring training. No, no, no, never mind, that's
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: when he was called up to the Rockies. I'm looking
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: at the transaction tracker wrong. He was actually dealton January.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: But still they probably had the cards out for autograph
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: well before that, because Rumfield's in a Yankees uniform on
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: his Bowman first cards, even though it took him forever
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: to finally get a Bowman first after being drafted in
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: twenty twenty one, didn't even get a first with the
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: team that drafted him in Philadelphia. I had to go
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: and get the auto in purple for the for the Rockies.
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: So these are pretty cheap cards. The one that I
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: linked to it already sold at forty bucks, which is
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: pretty cheap for a Bowman. First of a guy who
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: is going to be in the Rookie of the Year
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: running right now in the NL, even though I.
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: Mean doesn't really stand a chance. But it's a of two.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Fifty purple auto and they're out there because people certainly
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: bought into the Yankees in breaks out there, got this TJ.
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: Rumfeld card and immediately wanted to move in and now
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: have the opportunity.
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: So congrats to anybody that hit the TJ.
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: Rumfeld autos out of Bowman twenty twenty six. Nothing too
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: outstanding on this card. It's a normal Bowman design, but
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: it's got the purple background.
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: And this is what we always kind of talk about
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: with Bowman and how it is so difficult in the
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: prospecting game is so crazy because you can get you
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: could one just sold yesterday his base Bowman sold for
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: twenty bucks. His Baseballman Auto for twenty bucks. And this
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: is a guy that's producing at the major league level.
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: He was the Rookie of the month, and yet it's
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: gonna be five x to buy a guy in single
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: A that they have all the hype. It's such a
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: funny product. That's so funny how the Baseball Card World
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: handles him. But hey, if you want to get the TJ.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: Rumfield and how he's running right now, go for it
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: because that's basically the only card available.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: Yes, exactly. Okay, Well that's going to wrap us up
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: for this week. I think we had some pretty great picks.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: If you have any picks that you would like to
