- 0:00Hello everyone and welcome to the random Heathen ramblings
- 0:03podcast, where we discuss all sorts of things Germanic,
- 0:06Heathen re related. My name is Jessie.
- 0:09I am your host. Let's get into it.
- 0:32Hello, welcome back everyone, hail and well met.
- 0:37So the random Heathen ramblings podcast, returning back in full
- 0:41force after yet another week, long Hiatus.
- 0:47If you guys follow me on social media, you know, mainly
- 0:50Facebook, Instagram, I try to keep up with Twitter, but
- 0:53Twitter doesn't seem to get the same level of interaction.
- 0:58So if you follow me there, you don't see much.
- 1:00I don't know. To tell you.
- 1:01I'm not a social media Master when it comes to keeping track
- 1:06with everything I do, all I can to try to stay in the relevant
- 1:12news feeds on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube mainly.
- 1:17But if you guys follow me on my socials, you knew last week I
- 1:21took a week off. Because I went to the beach, I
- 1:25went to Gulf Shores, Alabama, with my month, with my wife and
- 1:30spent the week down there, we actually spent some time with
- 1:34our tribal go, the wolf him, and his mom went down there, and it
- 1:39was a very spontaneous decision to go at the same time that they
- 1:44did. It actually stems from the
- 1:46conversation that we all had over here at our house, my wife
- 1:53and I House. And yeah, he was talking about
- 1:56how he was going to be taking a week vacation down there, you
- 2:02know, the week following Memorial Day.
- 2:04So not Memorial Day weekend, but they were going to be getting
- 2:07down there on Memorial Day Monday and spending that week
- 2:12into the first few days of June. And, you know, it started off as
- 2:16hey, you know, Mister would you like to go?
- 2:17And I said, yeah, baby, you should go and it just kind of
- 2:22snowballed into We're both going and it started off as we're
- 2:26going to stay a couple of days and then it turned into.
- 2:29We're going to we're going to stay pretty much the whole week.
- 2:31We never getting down there late on Monday and we left early, I
- 2:37really early, but we left Friday afternoon and it was a much
- 2:42needed break. Let me tell you guys.
- 2:46So as most of you probably know if you have been following me
- 2:49now, excuse me, I need to take a drink of water because for some
- 2:52reason, my throat is a bit dry. That's rude.
- 2:59That's the other thing too. Is like allergies or something.
- 3:02Is been kicking my tuckus or my tush.
- 3:07My buttocks here, lately, keeping it, you know, PG for the
- 3:11kiddos. Anyways, if you guys been
- 3:16following me, you know, that back in April, my father passed
- 3:19away. I was away for a duration
- 3:24because of that and then You know, I don't know.
- 3:28It's just All of that and then coming back and getting into the
- 3:34swing of things with like work and and whatnot.
- 3:37I never really had time to just decompress and find a place to
- 3:47really and truly disconnect from Everyday life, you know, social
- 3:55media and stuff like that. I know you guys, follow me on
- 3:58Facebook and Instagram and YouTube, and Twitter and all
- 4:01that. And I try to share some things
- 4:04just to keep, you know, things relevant.
- 4:07But you know, no podcast last week, very little content in
- 4:14general and that was really what I needed, you know, I really
- 4:18just needed to Sit on a beach and enjoy the water.
- 4:25Enjoy listening. Listen to music, have some
- 4:27drinks. You know, that beach life dude
- 4:31is like I can go out here to the river and go out into the into
- 4:35the woods and it's a different kind of I don't know, it's a
- 4:39different kind of experience the the elements, the, the forces of
- 4:43nature, the spirits, that exist by the Sea, and in the sea are
- 4:47different than what exists here in a landlocked state, not in a
- 4:53bad way, just a different way. And it was so healing and so
- 4:57wholesome, you know, to be able to spend several days with a
- 5:03Kinsman with my wife and just enjoy it, not have it like me.
- 5:08To care about what time it was, you know.
- 5:10Yeah, sure. We wanted to get up early to get
- 5:12a nice spot on the beach and whatnot, but there was no like,
- 5:17oh, I've got to do this at a certain specific time, you know,
- 5:19no deadlines, no, nothing like that and it was great.
- 5:24So it was much needed to just decompress disconnect recharge.
- 5:31So we're back. Now, we're back here to to
- 5:36podcast again and got a good one lined up today, I hope.
- 5:41But before we get into the topic, I do want to get some
- 5:46sort of housekeeping, things out of the way.
- 5:52Here in about a week or so week and a half I guess well less
- 5:55than a week and a half, but coming up here soon is the Raven
- 5:59Moon Hearth hosted event soon. Upload, they hold this every
- 6:02year and it is their Midsummer public event.
- 6:07That is hosted by Raven Moon Hearth in Springfield,
- 6:10Tennessee. I'm going to be linking the
- 6:13details for that in the description and show notes of
- 6:16this podcast. So as I say with every event
- 6:19that's happening in our area, please check it.
- 6:22If you're relatively close or you haven't heard about it yet
- 6:26and you want to make that trip, it is a one-day event, it's a
- 6:29Saturday sort of thing. So, you know, come in, I think
- 6:33the doors as it were open, all you can arrive by 10 a.m. and
- 6:37there's going to be, you know, there's a, there's a ticket
- 6:41entry fee and it's an all-day thing.
- 6:43So you're going to get lunch, you're going to get dinner.
- 6:45You're going to have classes to listen to about, you know,
- 6:47talking about the the midsummer time of year or solstice. time
- 6:52of year, there's going to be ritual is going to be games,
- 6:55it's going to be Fellowship, is gonna be all kinds of fun stuff,
- 7:00so and then after the ritual, they'll be usually like Fireside
- 7:05Fellowship drumming whatever, so definitely check that out in the
- 7:10description and or podcast show notes and Come out and hang out
- 7:16with some heathens and pagans in the area following that event.
- 7:21We are also going to be hosting an outdoor potluck, picnic, or
- 7:26barbecue, sort of thing. When I say we I'm talking about
- 7:28my tribe, clearly the folk. And so that's going to be in
- 7:32Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and details for that will also be
- 7:35linked in the description and show notes of this podcast.
- 7:38And that's just essentially, a chance for folks who are looking
- 7:43to maybe Find a hidden Kindred in the area.
- 7:48Tribe such Kindred, use those terms somewhat interchangeably,
- 7:52come out and meet us, get to know who we are very, very small
- 7:57at the moment, but not looking to necessarily recruit but
- 8:00looking to put ourselves in the public eye and give people a
- 8:05chance to learn. What we are about.
- 8:09You know, what are our vision is?
- 8:12As a dramatic even tribe and What we're about and so enjoy
- 8:16some good food you know it's in a sheltered Pavilion so you
- 8:23don't have to worry about rain or anything like that.
- 8:27It's probably gonna be warm but hey, that's Tennessee for you,
- 8:30right? It's Tennessee.
- 8:31In June and, you know, I always, I always get a kick out of
- 8:36people and I've been one of them to, you know, I am definitely
- 8:38not the type of person that enjoys the heat.
- 8:42I am I am a Northman by Blood, I was born and raised in the state
- 8:46of New York, you know. And so that that cold blood as
- 8:50as it were definitely runs through my veins and this
- 8:53oppressive hot humid, you know, boggy swampy tight, whether that
- 9:00Tennessee is famous for this time of year is definitely not
- 9:04up my alley but in the same token I'm like there's so many
- 9:09events that end up happening when weather is not perfect.
- 9:13You know, either it's very Cold, very hot stormy, you know,
- 9:17rainy, whatever. And pagans, don't come out to
- 9:21these things. And I'm like, wait a minute, you
- 9:22guys are all about nature, you know, nature-based religion.
- 9:25This that thing the other. And yet, you won't come out and
- 9:28experience the forces of nature and, and connect with people in
- 9:33that sort of way. It's kind of odd.
- 9:35You may, you may want to rethink your lives.
- 9:37They're my friends, not scolding you, but I'm just giving you
- 9:40some things to think about, you know, we are, we are people of
- 9:44the land. And nature is a big part, a
- 9:48central part of our belief systems in many different,
- 9:51people's lives and in many different ways.
- 9:53But it, you know, we don't live On this Earth.
- 10:00We're Not Just on this Earth. We are this Earth.
- 10:04We are people of this Earth. You know, we're not living on
- 10:08the earth. We are living.
- 10:10Of the earth. We are part of her.
- 10:13Experience her and all of her, bipolar Glory.
- 10:17You know when it's hot when it's cold, when it's raining when
- 10:19it's sunny. When it's you know, this that
- 10:21and the other Experience it. So come experience it with us.
- 10:25Come experience it with pagans and heathens in the area for
- 10:28Sunnah bloat. Coming up here just this weekend
- 10:31after next. And then the clearly folk
- 10:34potluck meet up here in Murfreesboro Tennessee.
- 10:38The weekend, I believe it's the weekend after that.
- 10:40So, great stuff happening in the area to hopefully get people out
- 10:44in meeting one another and networking and all that fun
- 10:47stuff. So there's the housekeeping
- 10:50stuff as always if you want to know.
- 10:52All the ways that you can support this channel, this
- 10:54podcast, the link tree link. That's always annotated down
- 10:58here in the description and show notes.
- 11:00Is your One-Stop shop for all the ways that you can support,
- 11:04made guard musings, the random even ramblings podcast as a
- 11:07whole, all that fun stuff. So check it out, follow, like,
- 11:10share subscribe, you know, do those things.
- 11:14So, now that we've got the housekeeping stuff out of the
- 11:18way, got our candlelit, got some Sandalwood incense, And we are
- 11:23going to be talking today, a viewer. / subscriber / supporter
- 11:33request because again as I told as I've told you before so much
- 11:38of what the topics that this podcast gets comes from the
- 11:44listeners and the viewers and your ideas and your suggestions
- 11:48are being heard and I log them down and I write them down and I
- 11:52share them you know, over here. Because the mirror the the
- 11:57camera is mirrored. So I'm like you know, my right
- 11:59is your left and my up is your down.
- 12:00So over here right here you're going to see Morgan's request.
- 12:06So thank you Morgan for this request who said would you be
- 12:09annoyed if we discussed Loki? Again, as a deity, you've talked
- 12:14about it before but having recently dismissed him from my
- 12:19Pantheon in favor of Odin I would be down to listen to
- 12:24thoughts about his Ian's again, etc, etc.
- 12:29So Morgan definitely not annoyed by the topic.
- 12:32Although I definitely am a bit biased when it comes to any
- 12:38discussions around low-key. So for those of you listening
- 12:42and watching, if you if you are I don't know more inclined to be
- 12:50the type of heathen or Pagan. That is a location or a broker
- 12:56true as they are called sometimes.
- 12:58You know the the types of pagans who like to really focus on the
- 13:04the monsters or the chaotic. Forces is described in Norse
- 13:08mythology, this episode might ruffle your feathers, it might
- 13:13tickle your toes. It might fluster your Femurs.
- 13:18I don't know. I'm stretching here or reach in
- 13:20here with when it comes to the the euphemisms, but you get it.
- 13:24I am bias when it comes to stuff about Loki.
- 13:27I'm not opposed to talking about it because I love the dialogue
- 13:30that can circulate after such discussions, you know, I love
- 13:34the the the backs in the fourths and the ups and the downs and
- 13:37the list in the net. So low-key But I be upset or
- 13:44annoyed to talk about Loki. Well, it's not about me, right?
- 13:48It's about you, and it's about everybody else that's listening
- 13:51to wash. And so, we're going to ramble
- 13:53about it for the next, however, long I'm going to ramble about
- 13:56Loki and his Origins and such, but it's interesting because
- 14:01Morgan's comment. Kind of is a is you know that
- 14:08the type of a comment that would for somebody listening to it or
- 14:12or asking about it in real time, you know, elicit some more
- 14:16probing questions. You know, why would you dismiss
- 14:19Loki from your Pantheon? First of all, why was he there
- 14:22in the first place? You know, what was it about
- 14:25Loki? That gave you the inclination to
- 14:29want him to even be a part of your practices at all, you know?
- 14:35No. And so I think the topic about
- 14:38Loki, what we're going to do today is we're going to Maybe
- 14:41cover some common misconceptions especially for newer heathens
- 14:45that may find themselves thinking about the various gods
- 14:48and goddesses in the Norse pantheon and where they would,
- 14:55you know, have a place in your practices in your spirituality
- 15:00and religion, religiosity whatever.
- 15:03And so Once again, the bias is going to be palpable, I think
- 15:09you're gonna eat, you know? It's going to be easily
- 15:11detected. My bias about it.
- 15:16So, I have way way back on the midgard, musings YouTube
- 15:22channel. I used to do deity discussion
- 15:25videos every so often and Loki was one of the first ones that I
- 15:30did. And, you know, for anyone that's
- 15:34interested I'm going to Link it up here down there wherever it's
- 15:39going to be annotated. You know, in the show notes
- 15:41description, there might even be a card that's up in the upper
- 15:44right corner of this video. If you're watching on YouTube
- 15:48about my deity discussion video or to a link to that video.
- 15:51It is dated the quality is not the greatest.
- 15:54So, fair warning in advance, apologies.
- 15:58I was doing the best I could with what I had at the time to
- 16:02talk about them. And but not much has changed in
- 16:06terms of Of my views on Loki and his presence in Pagan practices,
- 16:13my Pagan practices, right? That, that much really hasn't
- 16:16changed. So, some common misconceptions,
- 16:21I think, one of the big things that ends up happening is people
- 16:24who are new to Heathen, re that come into this path or find
- 16:29themselves, interested it appeals to them, they want to
- 16:33pursue it. You know, they look at the gods
- 16:35as um, separate. You know, separate forces
- 16:42separate beings that that need to have a place in your worship
- 16:48and your veneration. You know you have to find a
- 16:51place for Odin. You have to find a place for
- 16:52thory, have to find a place for low-key, for example.
- 16:55Right since we're talking about since we're talking about Loki
- 16:59today and one of the things that I think people will sometimes
- 17:05take with them into this path is they'll they'll take pop culture
- 17:09ideas or pop culture. ER perceptions of these
- 17:15particular gods and use that as their as their fuel to pursue
- 17:23the the interest in it. So one thing that one should
- 17:28always remember in terms of the historical side of this
- 17:34practices, we don't see Loki, Or or similar figure in where the
- 17:43dramatic Heathen re originated in Continental, Europe in the in
- 17:47Saxony and in Continental lands in the mainland.
- 17:52Germanic countries. There were there was no
- 17:54equivalent to what is known. Now as Loki Loki was something
- 17:58that happened later on in Scandinavia in the north.
- 18:04So that's one thing to bear in mind is There's no, you know,
- 18:08really historical spot where we're lucky even exists, unlike
- 18:16the Gods like fryer. Unlike the guys like Odin Thor.
- 18:21North North, this, what have you?
- 18:23You know, these are figures that we see coming from the south up
- 18:29to the northern Scandinavian countries later on.
- 18:34Loki's not there, originally Loki pops up and in the eddas.
- 18:41And so that's one thing to bear in mind.
- 18:44Another thing to bear in mind is who Loki actually is, you know,
- 18:49I think pop culture has, you know, created this perception of
- 18:55Loki as a, as a The trickster, you know, and I am malevolent
- 19:04sort of figure almost Satan like as at where we're going to get
- 19:10into that here in a minute too and that he is Thor's brother
- 19:16and that he is a son of Odin. Thanks Marvel but no no he's not
- 19:25if anything Thor and Loki his Up in the eddas and the mythology.
- 19:32And those stories Loki is more of a companion type.
- 19:38He, he, he accompanies Thor on a lot of his escapades and a lot
- 19:43of his journeys where Thor has to go.
- 19:46Do something and Loki is right there with him,
- 19:49relationship-wise. He is not Thor's brother.
- 19:53He is not Odin, son. He is particular specifically,
- 19:59The the son of yotan or jotnar and if you want to take a take
- 20:08a, you know, stretch out like relationships wise, you know, we
- 20:11hear made mention in the poem, The Locust Center which is in
- 20:16the poetic Edda. Loki reminds Odin that they are
- 20:19have sworn an oath of the blood kinship.
- 20:21They are sort of like Blood Brothers, they mingled their
- 20:25blood and and sworn oath. And so, if you want to consider
- 20:32the fact that Odin and Loki are more like Blood Brothers than
- 20:38anything, it would sort of You can you could you can make the
- 20:43stretch that that if anything Loki is kind of like Thor's
- 20:47Uncle which is weird. But anyway, he's a companion.
- 20:53He's accompanied Thor in the retrieval of his hammer, you
- 21:00know, because he had to be Thor as Freya.
- 21:04Right. Freya's handmaiden.
- 21:06So he had to accompany thoron that he accompanied Thor on On
- 21:11the journey took we've guarded Loki. it's an interesting story
- 21:16to because it also kind of changes the perception of Loki
- 21:23as being as God. Associated with fire going to
- 21:25get to that in a second, which is not.
- 21:30So there we go. We got that couple of those,
- 21:34couple of misconceptions of the way.
- 21:35He's definitely not a historically attested figure in
- 21:41the ancient Germanic sources. He only appears later on in the
- 21:46Scandinavian myths, he is not Thor's brother.
- 21:51Other or Odin's son. He is not a god associated with
- 21:57fire anywhere. Now, why is that?
- 22:01Why why? I have a lot of folks, come that
- 22:05come into Heathen re or into this path?
- 22:08Why wouldn't we look up images? Even on the thumbnail of this
- 22:11video you know. Yes it's an AI generated image
- 22:14but it's like you look at images all over the place of of low-key
- 22:20and quite often we see this, you know, sort of Dashing, you know,
- 22:27sort of gender fluid looking Will with fiery red hair or fire
- 22:32in their eyes and it just fire all around them.
- 22:35You know, very fire. A big fire Motif going on with
- 22:41with the modern representation of low-key.
- 22:47So there's there's I think I think Jackson Crawford and even
- 22:53ocean Cal toy talked about this in some of their videos.
- 22:56If you want to look up, you know, Jackson Crawford on
- 22:58YouTube, Ocean County on Blue to YouTube and just use this Search
- 23:02terms. You know, Loki, Jackson,
- 23:04Crawford Loki, ocean, Kel toy, you're gonna find some of their
- 23:08videos we're in. It was I think a Grimm Who
- 23:14Jacob, Grimm, if I'm not mistaken, who has something to
- 23:21some sort of book or something at that, dramatic mythology, or
- 23:26German mythology or something. And there's a mention in that
- 23:31about low-key and fire, but even Grimm's sources are from
- 23:35somebody who's not It's not reputable or doesn't have any
- 23:41really true historical backing. It's more of just like it's
- 23:45maybe folklore or just conjecture but suffice it to
- 23:49say. Loki is not a god associated
- 23:53with fire really. None of the Norse gods are none
- 23:55of the dramatic gods. Are there not?
- 23:58You know, sure you might say that, you know, Thor is a god of
- 24:03thunder, but he's also a God of War, you know, but it's really
- 24:08not accurate to place the gods and make them just the god of
- 24:15one thing or another, you know what I mean?
- 24:18Pretty nuanced in that way. So, and what why is Loki looked
- 24:23at as a god Associated to Fire? And I think we can all Reach the
- 24:28same conclusion that Loki. Sometimes gets confused with a
- 24:37yotan called logy, who is a Challenger in the story where
- 24:45Thor and Loki travel to earth, god Loki and they they are faced
- 24:50with all these various challenges.
- 24:52In this one time in that story, Loki is pitted in a He eating
- 24:58battle against logy. And the the challenge is you
- 25:04know who can out-eat the other, you know, so they start each at
- 25:08one end of the table and they consume as much as they can.
- 25:12They end up meeting in the middle and we're Loki consumes
- 25:17all of the food on the table and meets Logie his Challenger
- 25:21rightly the opposer at the same time in the middle, the
- 25:25difference is that Logie has consumed literally everything.
- 25:30The tables, the chairs, the plates, everything, whereas Loki
- 25:34only has consumed, the food that was on the table and it come.
- 25:40And as we come to find out what Loki was pitted against who was
- 25:45lowkey battling was logy. Logy is the meaning is fire
- 25:49because fire is all-consuming and in it consumes everything in
- 25:53its path. And in Loki's named Loki isn't
- 26:00even a word that means fire or consumer.
- 26:03If anything it means something more like closer.
- 26:08I think it's the word Loki is where we get our English word
- 26:12lock from its cognate with are a Modern English word lock. so,
- 26:22He's you know, not a god of fire really of any you know something
- 26:26like that. He's not Thor's brother and all
- 26:29these various misconceptions of His Origins is in and stuff.
- 26:36And we would, we don't see where his Origins came from except
- 26:41from where he pops up in the in snore.
- 26:44He's Etta's, you know, the well not just snorri but of course
- 26:48the poetic Edda which is a you know a compilation of different
- 26:52poems and then snorri sturluson is prose Edda which is the More
- 26:57like, I don't know Pros, fashion of those myths.
- 27:01So, anyway, there's his origin or lack thereof stories and I
- 27:06don't because I don't have an interest in having a place for
- 27:12him in my personal practices and I definitely don't have a place
- 27:15for him in a large scale. Sort of practice when it comes
- 27:21to like tribal over or Kindred level rich, Tables and stuff
- 27:27like that. I'm not too keen on really
- 27:32pursuing more of that, but the, the history side of it is, is
- 27:35pretty cool. So there's there is that but
- 27:41Dismissing Loki from one's Pantheon, you know, it does a,
- 27:45the question as to why, why would you feel inclined to start
- 27:50with them as part of your practice and then realize it,
- 27:55get out, buddy. I that we got no place for you.
- 27:57Here. That's an interesting question
- 28:00and you know, I again going back to what I said in the beginning
- 28:05about folks who may be listening or watching that are low key.
- 28:10Ian type pagans or that our what would be referred to as a Roku
- 28:15true which are again the the types of folks that Find a place
- 28:25in their practices to venerate Loki's children. you ottoman,
- 28:31gonder fenrir hell, you know, and Loki himself these entropic,
- 28:40sort of chaotic forces that exist in the myths that Have
- 28:47have more to do with undermining or trying to destroy order the
- 28:55chaos. There's there's there's plenty
- 29:03of that, you know what I mean? Like, that's just nature in
- 29:06general. There's always things there.
- 29:08There's rot that exists in nature.
- 29:10There is that that constant circle of life and death.
- 29:14We are we are part of that. We are part of this Earth.
- 29:16As I mentioned before, we are a part of that cycle.
- 29:21We have to die for new life to be.
- 29:25You know, allowed as it were. And there's that cyclical
- 29:29existence that we're all a part of it.
- 29:31We cannot Escape. So why would You know, again the
- 29:39bias is going to come through. Why would anyone want to
- 29:42consciously? Put there?
- 29:46their energy, their focus, their devotion, their veneration into
- 29:53specifically, the elements of nature that Seek to destroy.
- 30:02Or that are just inherently entropic and that have no other
- 30:06purpose to serve than to be that thing.
- 30:11I don't get it. I've never gotten that some
- 30:15might say and I, you know, I've talked to two folks who at one
- 30:18point in time kept a very devotional approach to two loci
- 30:25in their practices. You know.
- 30:26They looked at him as this necessary evil, maybe or the the
- 30:32necessary chaos kind of like a, the Rune meaning of Huggle has
- 30:36or hug. Oh, you know the Hailstone.
- 30:39That violent force of nature, that destroys and does things in
- 30:47order to instigate a new life or instigate.
- 30:53Something that is needed in that moment, you know, so kind of
- 30:58like though, those forest fires, that that are started to
- 31:02purposely burned down acres of land.
- 31:06So that way the dead and dying. You know, pieces of nature that
- 31:15need to go can go and be forced to nurture that that new life,
- 31:20something kind of like along those lines.
- 31:22Right that that necessary Force and and trying to embrace that
- 31:28concept or be a part of that process I guess is one way of
- 31:34looking at it but I don't know man.
- 31:37Like that's We're already a part of it, just inherently, you
- 31:43know, like it's you don't have to seek.
- 31:48To gift to that, to try to perpetuate that.
- 31:53I don't know, you know, perpetuate not the right word
- 31:54but to again, just I don't know fuel that.
- 31:57Give give attention to that, it's already there and it's
- 32:01gonna be there, there's nothing you can do about it.
- 32:07And I also have again the bias, you know, I also don't want
- 32:12anything to do with Loki, in my personal practices, or in my
- 32:16tribal practices, we have a pretty, you know, pretty strict
- 32:20rule that as a tribe. When We Gather for tribal
- 32:25events, there will be no hailing of Loki.
- 32:29There will be no Loki veneration in our rituals because The are
- 32:37our tradition. Our view of Loki is that he is a
- 32:41kin Slayer and he is an oathbreaker in this to the
- 32:45degree that he's always lying. You know, he's sure they may
- 32:51seem like small lives but he's ultimately the The Insider of
- 32:58Ragnarok when I say Insight, or, I mean like inciting Insider,
- 33:03like behind the scenes, but he insights Ragnarok because what
- 33:06he did with balder, you know, by by tricking holder into throwing
- 33:14that that that fatal Arrow of mistletoe, that's what starts,
- 33:22the whole Ragnarok thing in the miss, you know, and he is the
- 33:27force that fights against the aesir in Ragnarok, you know, him
- 33:35and his, his children fenrir, and then you would have been
- 33:39gone to, right? These are forces that are
- 33:43enemies. Of the aesir of the Gods.
- 33:47And so in the myths, you know, we look at that as a thing of
- 33:51well we don't want to him to be a part of our ritual.
- 33:56Now, an interesting thing to realize, right, is that so much
- 34:02of what we learn about in the myths of the Gods Powers, their
- 34:09magical items, Have been acquired or come to them due to
- 34:18Loki's Behavior, Loki's actions, Loki's involvement.
- 34:23You know, he is the reason why Thor has his hammer, and he's
- 34:30also the reason why Thor got his hammer back.
- 34:35You know, he was an influential, he was an influential component
- 34:40in getting his hammer back when it was stolen from him and he
- 34:43was the very reason why he got it in the first place.
- 34:47Same way with Odin's spear glaucon ear in his his ring that
- 34:54I hope in here, you know? so, your Kind of like you owe it
- 35:05to Loki in a way that you know the gods o it to Loki in a way.
- 35:13As to, you know. Why they have their things, why
- 35:18they have their their mythical magical items that they've come
- 35:21to kind of be known by. You know, was it seeps Golden
- 35:27Hair? You know, that's another one.
- 35:31Sure. You know, he's the reason why it
- 35:33was cut off in the first place but then he's the reason why
- 35:36she's got her golden hair after you know making it right or
- 35:42fixing the wrong that he did. Is, you know, the reason why
- 35:49Asgard has their their, their Citadel, their, their, their
- 35:52Fortress, the wall that guards, the place, you know?
- 35:55Like he's the reason why the Giants horse.
- 36:01Got distracted. And they, you know, were able to
- 36:08Get their wall built and and not have to surrender surrender.
- 36:12Freya for it? You know, I mean so, yeah, he
- 36:16does these things in the myths and he's responsible for so much
- 36:22crap, right? That he has to.
- 36:28Come in and then figure out the solution and he does, he pulls
- 36:32through but it's kind of like at the end of it all all the good
- 36:38that that happened from his involvement cannot be.
- 36:45You know, the it cannot be overshadowed by what he but he
- 36:48is ultimately responsible for at the end, you know, it's like
- 36:52yeah, sure you did. All this good stuff.
- 36:53But look at what you've done now, or you've done all these
- 36:57things that have benefited us now, but it just kind of screwed
- 37:03the pooch and all of us in the process.
- 37:06And so, you know, he is, he was outlawed, he was cast out and
- 37:12looking looking at that from The perspective of society at the
- 37:17time, that was how problems were we're handled.
- 37:20They, you know, you did certain things.
- 37:24You were considered anything you, you were, you were cast
- 37:27out, you were an outlawed and so it's no surprise that he's Put
- 37:33that way in portrayed that way in the myths because again of
- 37:37the sort of societal structure at the time.
- 37:41And then the way thing, the way the world was for the people at
- 37:44that time and how their stories reflect that, you know, so If
- 37:52you guys are Loki ins, or if you have a place in your practice
- 37:58for Loki, I'd be really interested.
- 38:00I'm sure others listening and watching would Breathe would be
- 38:03interested to know why. As well even considering the
- 38:09fact that, you know, my tribe name.
- 38:11You know, our name is fairy, the folk thunderer flurry.
- 38:14The the people of the Thundering storm a huge nod to Thor.
- 38:21Any. And as I mentioned before, even
- 38:22though Loki is with Thor and many of his travels, and in the
- 38:27stories, he is there as a companion.
- 38:29We still do not and will not have a place for Loki in our
- 38:36tribal Affairs, in our tribal rituals.
- 38:38It just won't ever happen because again, of what
- 38:40ultimately he's responsible for it's like Yeah, you've done all
- 38:45those things, but look what you are ultimately responsible for
- 38:49and we're not. That's our that's our custom.
- 38:52That's our tradition. That's what we've adhered to and
- 38:55what we're going to adhere to. That is Arthur.
- 38:57Do you know what I mean? That's one thing that won't
- 39:00change. Even though through and
- 39:03tradition can can evolve or change over time, that that's
- 39:05one thing. That is Not going to change, its
- 39:10Ben. Embedded into our bylaws, right?
- 39:15It's been written down to be remembered for the Next
- 39:23Generation whoever wherever clearly folk goes from here.
- 39:30So yeah, as you know, as I said before, I'm always interested to
- 39:34hear what other people's perceptions are Morgan
- 39:39specifically. Because, you know, you're the
- 39:41one that that asked this or suggested this topic weeks ago.
- 39:46And while I'm not annoyed at all, to talk about it.
- 39:50I am deeply interested to know your background as to why he was
- 39:55there in the first place and why he no longer is there.
- 39:58While he was Y-you've disassociated him from your,
- 40:04from your practices. If you're willing to talk about
- 40:06it and anybody else for that matter, if you want, feel free
- 40:08to comment down below right into the podcast midgard.
- 40:11Musings tiene gmail.com, call in and leave a voicemail.
- 40:14It's 61 5 6, 7 1983 to hotline is always open.
- 40:20You can always call just leave a voicemail and will feature you
- 40:22on the podcast if you want. But your responses or your
- 40:27comments would be appreciated because it adds more to the
- 40:30story. You know it adds more to the to
- 40:33the topics and yeah Loki. He's just you know remember that
- 40:38one time you went to a gears Hall and killed a gears servant
- 40:42to get in and then tries to throw up and open space.
- 40:45Oh hey by the way, remember bro, we mixed our blood that one time
- 40:49we were Said you'd never have a drink without me.
- 40:52And I was like, yeah, okay, whatever.
- 40:54I don't like it but I got to do it because I have this oath that
- 40:57I'm supposed to upkeep and he starts just insulting the gods
- 41:00left and right, remember that. And while there is some truth to
- 41:06some of the things that he insulted them for.
- 41:10So the take away from the fact that he just essentially, you
- 41:12know. Ruin the party kill the guys
- 41:16servant that's hosting the party.
- 41:17And then just comes in and starts lambaste and everybody.
- 41:24And the only one that could stop it.
- 41:27And the only one that he would listen to was, who His
- 41:31companion, his his traveling, buddy?
- 41:34Right is his nephew if you want to again, stretch on.
- 41:39That way Thor. And I took a little while, but
- 41:43finally Thor's, like listen here, buddy, this Hammer that I
- 41:47have because you about to sink it into your freaking head.
- 41:51You don't shut up and get out of here.
- 41:52He's like all right, fine, whatever.
- 41:54I'm gonna get him out of here. This party sucks anyway.
- 41:58You know this party's lame. Going to party with going to
- 42:06party and niflheim. Who knows?
- 42:09I don't know. I'm just making fun now but
- 42:11yeah. Loki not the brother of Thor
- 42:17Loki. Not the fire god or God of
- 42:19associated with fire Loki. Not the trickster.
- 42:27Sure. He's tricky can be tricky but so
- 42:29can Odin. So can a lot of the Gods, you
- 42:31know, there's a lot of A lot of things about the gods that, you
- 42:36know, and that's the other thing too.
- 42:38Is people want to look to the gods, as they, well, if the gods
- 42:43did it, then, what's, what's wrong with us doing?
- 42:45It's like, hey, man, like the gods aren't fallible or
- 42:48infallible? I should say, they are fallible
- 42:52and they're the stories are not there to for us to, you know?
- 43:02Mirror, their behaviors, 100% of the time.
- 43:05There's there's a lot to learn from if you want to take that
- 43:09angle and there's a lot too. You know.
- 43:16Take away from their their behaviors and realize that it
- 43:18at. That wasn't good.
- 43:20You know, when Thor and Odin was it hard about it?
- 43:25You know, Odin is as hard part is disguised as that old man and
- 43:30Thor, doesn't realize who it is and they go back and forth and
- 43:32Odin's basically bragging about how you know he forced himself
- 43:37on these on these. Women are these women and he's
- 43:40like there are you should have been there and then help me hold
- 43:43them down and all that. Like, that's not Pool.
- 43:45Man, that is deplorable. That is terrible Behavior.
- 43:49Don't Don't use that story or that particular line of a story
- 43:54be like, we'll see. You know that's why it's okay to
- 43:59have your way with people and not respect boundaries because
- 44:04look it Odin like mmm, you know, not at all.
- 44:08And so that's with all the gods that's with all of those
- 44:16figures, you know. And while they have a place as
- 44:21sacred beings that, you know, reading these stories, the myths
- 44:26about Them in realizing their Tendencies and and stuff.
- 44:30It's a learning experience, you know, it's not just ways to be,
- 44:34it's waste to not be so Loki is just another one of them that I
- 44:40think there's there's things about Loki's character that we
- 44:43read about in the stories that one could say, for in the right
- 44:49context are admirable and are Upstanding kind of
- 44:54characteristics, you know, he definitely gets things done.
- 44:58He's witty, he's you know. He's got, he's got that quick on
- 45:06his feet, sort of thinking, in a lot of ways.
- 45:12He's Definitely knows that to fix a problem.
- 45:17You've got to bring a lot to the table to do it.
- 45:20It's you know, big problems result in big Solutions.
- 45:27So you know, again you can take You can pick, you can cherry
- 45:32pick things out of all, cases, of all the gods that we have
- 45:36stories about at least, and there are several of them that
- 45:38Loki is involved in again. He's one of the primary
- 45:43characters in The Ragnarok myth, you know, and he's, and he's
- 45:49mentioned a lot throughout the Etta's in the various poem.
- 45:53So, Yeah, I'm and I'm genuinely curious for those of you that
- 46:01either. Are still low qian like why?
- 46:04What is it? What is it about Loki that Makes
- 46:10you want to put your focus in your energy into him or his
- 46:15offspring specifically for those that maybe were in are no
- 46:19longer. You know what was your what was
- 46:21the turning point for you? Why did you decide as Morgan had
- 46:27to dismiss Loki from your practices?
- 46:31So, That is today's episode. That is Our discussion on Loki,
- 46:39there may be more, we don't know.
- 46:42If you want to hear more about Loki, you have something
- 46:44specific about loci that you want to talk about.
