- 1:23Welcome everyone to the ever popular Inspirations for
- 1:28Your Life show.
- 1:30I'm John C.
- 1:31Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 1:36podcast host, coach, keynote speaker, graduate student at
- 1:42Montclair State University, passionate lifelong learner, and yes,
- 1:46guys, so grateful not to be a published
- 1:48author.
- 1:49Welcome, everyone.
- 1:50Welcome.
- 1:51Thanks so much for joining me for another
- 1:53episode.
- 1:54It's going to be a great one today.
- 1:57And so this is where I help you
- 1:59explore practical principles that help us become stronger,
- 2:03wiser, and more intentional every day in our
- 2:06life.
- 2:07Success isn't measured only by what we accomplish.
- 2:12It's also measured by the kind of person
- 2:15others know they can rely on.
- 2:18People remember those who keep their word, act
- 2:22with integrity, and remain dependable in both the
- 2:26good times and the bad, or what we
- 2:30say the difficult seasons may be.
- 2:32Today, I'm exploring how becoming someone others can
- 2:35count on not only strengthens your relationships, but
- 2:40also builds a reputation that opens doors throughout
- 2:44every area of life.
- 2:47Number one, guys, integrity builds trust.
- 2:49Trust begins with integrity.
- 2:51When your words and actions consistently match, people
- 2:55know they can depend on you.
- 2:59Integrity becomes the foundation of every lasting relationship.
- 3:04Number two, consistency earns respect.
- 3:09People respect those who consistently do the right
- 3:13thing, even when no one else is watching.
- 3:15Showing up with the same level of commitment
- 3:18and enthusiasm every day builds confidence in your
- 3:21character.
- 3:22Consistency speaks louder than promises ever will.
- 3:26And number three, reliability creates opportunity.
- 3:29And opportunities naturally come to dependable people.
- 3:33When others know they can count on you,
- 3:36they become more willing to trust you with
- 3:41greater responsibility.
- 3:43Reliability often opens unexpected doors.
- 3:48Number four, keep your promises.
- 3:50Every promise you keep strengthens your reputation.
- 3:54If you commit to something, follow through with
- 3:58excellence.
- 3:59Your word becomes one of your greatest assets.
- 4:04Use it wisely.
- 4:06Number five, show up daily.
- 4:08Success isn't built by occasional appearances.
- 4:11It's built by consistently showing up even on
- 4:14the days you don't feel like it.
- 4:18Dependability creates momentum.
- 4:21Okay, and number six, actions build credibility.
- 4:27People believe what they repeatedly see, not simply
- 4:31what they hear.
- 4:34Consistent actions build lasting credibility.
- 4:38Let your actions reinforce your message.
- 4:42Number seven, character matters.
- 4:45Skills may earn opportunities, but character determines how
- 4:48long they will last.
- 4:51Strong character influences every decision you make.
- 4:55It's your greatest long-term investment.
- 4:59Number eight, lead by example.
- 5:02Leadership isn't about giving instructions.
- 5:04It's about demonstrating the behavior you hope others
- 5:08will follow.
- 5:09Your example often teaches more than your words.
- 5:13And that's something a lot of people miss.
- 5:15Number nine, build confidence through action.
- 5:18Confidence develops through repeated action, not wishful thinking.
- 5:23Every promise you keep strengthens your beliefs in,
- 5:28yes, ladies and gentlemen, yourself.
- 5:31So progress creates confidence, and that's the key.
- 5:36Number 10, encourage others.
- 5:40Encouragement costs very little, but often creates tremendous
- 5:43value.
- 5:45Helping others believe in themselves strengthens both your
- 5:49relationships and your influence.
- 5:53Positive words leave lasting impressions.
- 5:57Number 11, stay dependable.
- 6:00Dependability isn't something you practice occasionally.
- 6:04It becomes part of your identity.
- 6:08People remember those who remain steady, regardless of
- 6:12circumstances.
- 6:15Number 12, earn trust gradually.
- 6:17If trust isn't demanded, it's earned one decision
- 6:22at a time.
- 6:24Every honest action strengthens the confidence others place
- 6:29in you.
- 6:31Number 13, listen carefully.
- 6:34Listening demonstrates respect.
- 6:36Understanding others before responding creates stronger communication and
- 6:42healthier relationships.
- 6:44Great listeners become trusted leaders.
- 6:48Number 14, communicate clearly.
- 6:51Clear communication prevents unnecessary misunderstandings.
- 6:57Be honest, direct, and respectful.
- 7:00In every conversation, clarity builds confidence.
- 7:06Number 15, respect your commitments.
- 7:10Treat every commitment as a reflection of your
- 7:14character.
- 7:15Following through shows people they can depend on
- 7:18you.
- 7:19Every commitment honored strengthens your reputation.
- 7:24Number 16, be accountable.
- 7:27Taking responsibility for your actions builds credibility and
- 7:33respect.
- 7:34Accountability means owning both your successes and your
- 7:38mistakes.
- 7:39People trust those who accept responsibility without making
- 7:43excuses.
- 7:45Number 17, stay authentic, everyone.
- 7:49Authenticity allows people to know the real you.
- 7:52You don't have to pretend to be someone
- 7:55you're not.
- 7:57To earn respect, genuine character creates genuine relationships.
- 8:03Number 18, support others.
- 8:07Helping others succeed never diminishes your own success.
- 8:13Offering encouragement, guidance, and kindness builds stronger communities
- 8:19and lasting friendships.
- 8:22People remember those who stood beside them.
- 8:27Number 19, build lasting relationships.
- 8:31Strong relationships are built through trust, respect, and
- 8:36consistency over time.
- 8:39Invest in people instead of simply transactions.
- 8:43Meaningful relationships become one of life's greatest treasures.
- 8:49Number 20, practice humility.
- 8:52Humility allows you to continue learning and growing.
- 8:56It reminds you that everyone has something valuable
- 9:00to teach and share.
- 9:02Humble people earn admiration because they lead without
- 9:07arrogance, something the world needs a lot less
- 9:10of.
- 9:11Number 21, keep learning.
- 9:13Personal growth should never stop.
- 9:16Every book, conversation, experience, and challenge adds to
- 9:21your understanding.
- 9:23Lifelong learners remain valuable throughout every season of
- 9:28life.
- 9:29Number 22, lead with integrity.
- 9:33True leadership begins with doing what's right, even
- 9:37when no one's watching.
- 9:40Integrity creates confidence because people know your values
- 9:46remain consistent.
- 9:48Strong leaders lead by principle before position.
- 9:54Number 23, guys, create positive influence.
- 9:57Every interaction leaves on the impression you make.
- 10:02I think some people, you know, they miss
- 10:04that point.
- 10:04They don't realize that they have that power
- 10:07inside them, okay?
- 10:09Make yours one of the best ones that
- 10:15will be encouraging and allowing people to hope
- 10:18and build confidence and growth.
- 10:20And positive influence often extends much farther than
- 10:26you ever realize.
- 10:28Number 24, stay honest.
- 10:32Honesty builds relationships that last even through difficult
- 10:37conversations.
- 10:39And they'll become easier when people know you're
- 10:41actually truthful.
- 10:42See, trust grows whenever honesty is consistently practiced.
- 10:47But what I want to tell you is
- 10:49that this can be difficult for people because
- 10:52they're expecting something.
- 10:53They don't realize, like, what's happening.
- 10:56They don't understand why something is happening.
- 10:59And that can be hard, guys.
- 11:02And I'll tell you that it's something a
- 11:05lot of people don't understand.
- 11:08Okay?
- 11:11And the reason I understand it is because
- 11:14they really don't care to, okay?
- 11:24It's crazy how people don't care.
- 11:32And I think that's a problem.
- 11:34People don't care.
- 11:44I think when people care and they understand,
- 11:46that's when they understand these things and that's
- 11:48when they get it.
- 11:57I think those are important qualities.
- 12:03Number 25, consistency creates leadership.
- 12:10Leadership isn't earned through one inspiring speech.
- 12:15It's earned by repeatedly demonstrating dependable character and
- 12:21eliciting sound judgment.
- 12:25Consistency inspires confidence in others.
- 12:30You didn't realize that, did you?
- 12:33We inspire others.
- 12:34And when we do that, that makes people
- 12:36want to change, okay?
- 12:39It makes people want to change.
- 12:41It makes people want to become a better
- 12:43version because they're seeing something else that they
- 12:47want to be like.
- 12:49An example.
- 12:51Number 26, inspire through action.
- 12:56People are inspired by what they see lived
- 13:02out every day in their life.
- 13:05Your example has the power to motivate others
- 13:08for more effective ways than words could alone.
- 13:14The message you hope others embrace is the
- 13:18key to the success of life.
- 13:21And I think sometimes the message gets, well,
- 13:26discombobulated.
- 13:27It gets confusing.
- 13:28And that happens because of miscommunication.
- 13:33And miscommunication happens because people's egos get in
- 13:37the way.
- 13:38Number 27, guys, be the example.
- 13:42If you want honesty, demonstrate honesty.
- 13:46If you want respect, well, demonstrate respect.
- 13:51See, the standard you live often becomes the
- 13:55standard others follow.
- 13:59The standard you live becomes the one others
- 14:02follow.
- 14:02A lot of people will mimic.
- 14:03A lot of people will try to be
- 14:06like someone, not trying to copy them, but
- 14:08trying to just learn a good example.
- 14:11And I think those are very important things
- 14:13in life when we can do things like
- 14:15that, okay?
- 14:17Number 28, build meaningful impact.
- 14:23Success becomes more fulfilling when it improves the
- 14:27lives of others.
- 14:31People always say, you know, success is all
- 14:33about me.
- 14:35That's part of it, but it's important to
- 14:37think about others, really important to think about
- 14:40others.
- 14:42Focus on making a positive difference wherever you
- 14:48go.
- 14:50See, impact gives lasting purpose to achievement.
- 14:58And I think if we dissect that a
- 15:01moment, and we understand how impact works, and
- 15:05we understand that our choices, which are coming
- 15:09from our own freedom, freedom of will, can
- 15:14impact somebody positively or negatively.
- 15:16So I think the most important thing is
- 15:18that we learn how to be kind.
- 15:23You know, it doesn't cost anything to be
- 15:24kind.
- 15:28It doesn't cost anything.
- 15:30It's completely free.
- 15:34It just takes some, well, some dedication.
- 15:39It takes true intention, right?
- 15:47But everybody's so, like, into themselves.
- 16:02And I think when people can just stop
- 16:06for a moment and realize that if
- 16:16you're not part of the solution, you're part
- 16:19of the problem.
- 16:22I was reading something not too long ago
- 16:28on social media about something that happened at
- 16:31a ham convention.
- 16:32So ham, ham is basically a, it's an
- 16:39organization, ham radio operators.
- 16:45And so we think about this for a
- 16:47moment.
- 16:49It's basically a license you get from the
- 16:53FCC, okay?
- 16:57And they're licensed operators who use amateur radio,
- 17:02equipment to communicate globally.
- 17:04Equipment with electronics and provide vital emergency communication
- 17:08when standard networks fail.
- 17:11And they build their stations and connect via
- 17:14voice, Morse code, and even digital data now.
- 17:18So you have the, you have basically the
- 17:21technician class, which is an entry-level license
- 17:24requiring 35 question exam.
- 17:26Focuses on the VHF, UHF operations for local
- 17:29and regional contacts.
- 17:31General class, the second tier granting wider privileges
- 17:34across the short wave HF bands for worldwide
- 17:39communication.
- 17:39And then the amateur extra class, the highest
- 17:42tier granting access to all US amateur bands.
- 17:48And it's interesting that, you know, this is
- 17:52there, but what I wanted to pull this
- 17:56up for was because not too long ago,
- 17:59there was a ham, let's say market where
- 18:02they sell, you know, new and used radios
- 18:06from people that sell them, right?
- 18:08Not the hams, but basically the people that
- 18:10sell these radios.
- 18:12Well, there was one particular person, I don't
- 18:14think I've ever seen this at a ham
- 18:15convention, who was using some, let's say, not
- 18:19polite four-letter words.
- 18:22And he also was getting, in addition to
- 18:26the verbal and the assaults with words, he
- 18:29was getting ready to pick a fight with
- 18:30somebody.
- 18:33And hams are here to help people.
- 18:35Hams are not supposed to be about egos,
- 18:37but, you know, there's egos everywhere.
- 18:39Unfortunately, guys, that's just something that just kind
- 18:41of pops up.
- 18:44And, you know, it's not hard to be
- 18:48kind, right?
- 18:54It's not hard to be.
- 19:01But people basically become unkind when their ego
- 19:07gets in the way, right?
- 19:12And that sounds like something that's pretty, like,
- 19:16straightforward, right?
- 19:17But the thing is, when somebody's ego gets
- 19:20in the way, it actually impacts more than
- 19:24just them.
- 19:25It impacts all the people around.
- 19:27And that doesn't actually seem fair.
- 19:30When somebody is not polite or discourteous, they
- 19:35not only affect themselves, they ruin the comfort
- 19:42and quiet for others.
- 19:51Interesting to think about that, right?
- 19:57And when we think about that a little
- 19:58deeper, we can ask ourselves this one question
- 20:07about purpose, right?
- 20:14About how our actions, which
- 20:25are meaningful, will leave an impact.
- 20:26Now, even actions that are not good will
- 20:29leave an impact.
- 20:30It'll leave a bad impact on somebody.
- 20:34Number 29, guys, success follows trust.
- 20:37You don't get success before you get trust.
- 20:41You get trust when people feel comfortable with
- 20:44you, when people see that you're a person
- 20:45that does what you say you're gonna do.
- 20:50Probably remember the days of a handshake.
- 20:52Well, handshake contracts are gone.
- 20:55They're gone.
- 20:57Success follows trust.
- 20:59And people naturally choose to work with support
- 21:04and recommend individuals they trust.
- 21:08Trust creates opportunities that talent alone often cannot.
- 21:15A trustworthy reputation becomes one of your greatest
- 21:19competitive advantages.
- 21:21You know, ladies and gentlemen, it's priceless.
- 21:24You see, you can damage your reputation in
- 21:27seconds.
- 21:27You can work hours, days, weeks, months, or
- 21:33years to build a reputation and then bam,
- 21:36you just destroyed it.
- 21:46Crazy, right?
- 21:52And I think it's these things that get
- 21:55people to really understand, right?
- 22:04And the understanding comes from like what people
- 22:08are doing, right?
- 22:17But why do people act up?
- 22:23It's because of fear.
- 22:28False evidence appearing real.
- 22:33That's what it comes from.
- 22:35Now, ladies and gentlemen, number 30, your reputation
- 22:38becomes your legacy long after accomplishments are potentially
- 22:46forgotten.
- 22:47People remember how you treated them and whether
- 22:50they could depend on you.
- 22:53Every decision you make contributes to the reputation
- 22:56you're building.
- 22:59Make it one that reflects integrity, reliability, and
- 23:05genuine care for others.
- 23:09I said, when you're kind, people like it.
- 23:14And kindness doesn't cost a penny, nothing.
- 23:22A penny doesn't even cost a penny, costs
- 23:25nothing.
- 23:28Pretty cool, right?
- 23:37I think when people know that something is
- 23:43free, they associate no value, but our time
- 23:48has value, right?
- 23:51How long did it take you to make
- 23:54your first friend?
- 23:54Let me ask you that.
- 23:56How long does it take to make a
- 24:02best friend?
- 24:02Does anybody know?
- 24:05How long does it take?
- 24:08Research says, okay, according to many journals, 200
- 24:13hours of shared time to transition from acquaintance
- 24:16to a best or close friend.
- 24:18The timeframe can be reached through specific milestones
- 24:21rather than just potential hours.
- 24:25Casual friends, 40 to 60 hours.
- 24:28Moving from a mere acquaintance to someone you
- 24:30occasionally chat with or socialize with.
- 24:34A friend, 80 to 100 hours.
- 24:39A best or close friend, 200 plus hours.
- 24:46And you can't rush that, you can't.
- 24:52Because the minute one person senses that you're
- 24:55trying to rush it, it's like, it's over.
- 24:58As I prepare to wrap up today and
- 25:00we conclude the show, I want you to
- 25:03remember something.
- 25:05See, becoming someone others can count on is
- 25:12one of the greatest achievements you'll ever accomplish
- 25:16in life.
- 25:18I'm not gonna tell you it's easy to
- 25:20do.
- 25:23Trust is something that you just don't build
- 25:25in five minutes.
- 25:27Look how long it takes to build a
- 25:28friendship, right?
- 25:32How long does it take to build a
- 25:33friendship?
- 25:34We just said, right?
- 25:3840 to 60 hours for a casual friend.
- 25:44Moving from a more known acquaintance to someone
- 25:49you occasionally chat with or socialize with.
- 25:53Friend, 80 to 100 hours.
- 25:56Spending more time together, sharing personal details and
- 26:00having regular meaningful conversations.
- 26:07And a best close friend, developing deep mutual
- 26:09trust.
- 26:10Participating in major life experiences and providing consistent
- 26:13support.
- 26:19When you're very young and you're making your
- 26:24first friend, it becomes very easy to make
- 26:28a friendship in preschool.
- 26:31So how quick do kids make friends?
- 26:35Very quick, within a few minutes, okay?
- 26:43We're talking about toddlers, one to three.
- 26:46Young children, four to eight.
- 26:48The fastest age you're making friends.
- 26:50Children this age bond quickly over common interests,
- 26:52toys and simple games.
- 26:54Older kids, becoming friends can take longer.
- 27:01These are age groups that rely more on
- 27:03shared values, trust and deeper conversations.
- 27:06Meaning it can take weeks or months to
- 27:08establish a solid friend group.
- 27:10But when you build it, when you're younger,
- 27:12it's a lot easier, okay?
- 27:14Success, ladies and gentlemen, may open doors.
- 27:17But character determines whether those doors remain open
- 27:20forever.
- 27:21Every promise you keep, every commitment you honor
- 27:27and every act of integrity strengthens the reputation
- 27:30you're building one day at a time.
- 27:34You see, trust isn't built overnight.
- 27:35I've said that before.
- 27:37It's earned through thousands of consistent decisions that
- 27:40demonstrate honesty, dependability, humility and respect for others.
- 27:46The choices you make today will shape how
- 27:50people remember you tomorrow.
- 27:53Let your life become an example of consistency,
- 27:57accountability and authentic leadership.
- 27:59Thank you so much for joining me here
- 28:01on another episode of Inspirations For Your Life.
