- 3:14Speaker 3: enough for me to enjoy a long walk on the beach.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I'm just saying the cliche stuff of long walk on
- 3:20Speaker 2: the beach hiking because every gay says, oh my god,
- 3:24Speaker 2: I love hiking, when the majority of the time half of
- 3:26Speaker 2: them do not.
- 3:28Speaker 3: I love hiking, So that is true. Hell, I spent

- 4:27Speaker 1: Leave my left leave. He's done nothing wrong. I am
- 4:33Speaker 1: not gonna break it. The right one.
- 4:36Speaker 3: L Devin's left elbow is his golden child because it's
- 4:42Speaker 3: the only one he has left.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Wow.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Wow, I sit here and rise up, my bff, and
- 4:51Speaker 2: I'm talking about how great he is. You try to
- 4:53Speaker 2: boost his confidence, and this is what I get is
- 4:56Speaker 2: what I get.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a price you must pay for rising.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Me up, because someone's got to.

- 6:57Speaker 3: I'm not doing anything.
- 6:59Speaker 1: You are. You're enjoying the misery an embarrassing to me.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Yes, it is pretty endurable.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Wow.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Anyway, now that that train wreck is out of the way.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Wow, you're calling me a train wreck.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Okay, Hey, I don't. Hey, at least I don't pretend
- 7:21Speaker 3: that I'm not. I know I am.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I'm not a train wreck.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Okay, okay, okay, let me phrase that I was once
- 7:29Speaker 2: a train wreck. I am a train that got out
- 7:32Speaker 2: of the wreck and is back on the rails again.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Okay, Okay.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I know it was a rough year in twenty twenty four,
- 7:38Speaker 2: my dude, Okay, it was a rough year, but I
- 7:40Speaker 2: got it.
- 7:41Speaker 1: I'm back on the track. M hm.
- 7:48Speaker 3: Anyway, so we're gonna be going back to a bit
- 7:52Speaker 3: of our We're going back to our roots today. Oh,
- 7:56Speaker 3: because lately we've been just reviewing horror novels, regular small
- 8:02Speaker 3: short novels, and of course Devin's new favorite series, the
- 8:08Speaker 3: what is that series called like the overall series called
- 8:10Speaker 3: the Iron Plane the Imperium, which is like fourth waying
- 8:17Speaker 3: Iron Flame and soon to be onyx Storm. Yeah, everyone
- 8:23Speaker 3: is listening their ship and it's like I'm over here,
- 8:25Speaker 3: like it's gonna be a minute before I read that
- 8:27Speaker 3: series because I still got to finish all of that,
- 8:31Speaker 3: all of this right here, because there's like a bunch
- 8:33Speaker 3: of books over here I gotta finish, and like I
- 8:36Speaker 3: usually read when I'm at work because there's hardly anything
- 8:39Speaker 3: to do. But for some reason, everybody and their mother
- 8:42Speaker 3: has decided they want to call all at the same time,
- 8:45Speaker 3: and I'm like, y'all don't need that much help. Y'all
- 8:48Speaker 3: don't need you really, Like most of the time when
- 8:51Speaker 3: they call that, I'm just like, you couldn't have just
- 8:54Speaker 3: youtubed this.
- 8:56Speaker 1: That's fair. That's fair and there And.
- 8:59Speaker 3: Let me tell you something. With the job I work,
- 9:01Speaker 3: there are YouTube videos.
- 9:04Speaker 2: There are there are because I work the same job.
- 9:07Speaker 2: There are there are.
- 9:10Speaker 1: But now I feel that.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Because you have a lot of books, so so do I.
- 9:13Speaker 2: I literally just bought two more uh Lucy undying, which
- 9:18Speaker 2: I'll talk about something these two I'll talk about some
- 9:20Speaker 2: point this year. Lucy Undying, of course, is a story
- 9:22Speaker 2: about Lucy from Dracula, who died was Dracula's first victim died,
- 9:30Speaker 2: she didn't and this one she didn't die, She just came.
- 9:32Speaker 2: She came back to live as a vampire, and this
- 9:33Speaker 2: is her story. Lesbians Love a Lesbian, Love a Lesbian.
- 9:37Speaker 2: And then of course this one, Oh, I love a lesbian.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Lesbian's good shipped done period. You can't count bisexual gaze.
- 9:45Speaker 2: We don't get shit done. Lesbians get shipped done. And
- 9:48Speaker 2: then this one is a Enemies to Lovers, which Witch
- 9:52Speaker 2: Hunter and I heard about this one and I'm like,
- 9:55Speaker 2: you know what, I'm gonna get all up in this
- 9:56Speaker 2: one because this one sounds like fun. And this one
- 9:59Speaker 2: sequel for this one and comes out this year too.
- 10:00Speaker 2: This is the Crimson Moth series and it's book one
- 10:05Speaker 2: Heartless Hunter. But these two are some of the books
- 10:09Speaker 2: as well as the series we're talking about today. On
- 10:12Speaker 2: the list of things I'm reading, Oh, I feel that
- 10:17Speaker 2: my list keeps growing to keep buying books.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, and my collection continues to grow. Like honestly,
- 10:28Speaker 3: you said you went to Devin here went to this
- 10:31Speaker 3: little bookstore in downtown San Antonio called Nowhere.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Nowhere, Nowhere Bookshop. It's so cute and.
- 10:37Speaker 3: So yeah, and I just want to I just want
- 10:40Speaker 3: to point out they don't pay us as top to
- 10:41Speaker 3: rise it up, and they don't need to because we
- 10:43Speaker 3: love it. It's nice. It's a nice, little, nifty little bookshop.
- 10:48Speaker 3: And the Devin pointed out there they're selling a book there,
- 10:51Speaker 3: and I'm just like, yeah, I'm intrigued. Yeah, I'm intrigued.
- 10:59Speaker 2: They're so they they have a nice little selection of
- 11:03Speaker 2: of course, I'm a reader of horror, science fiction, fantasy,
- 11:07Speaker 2: and they have a nice little section of that, and
- 11:09Speaker 2: I'm just like, oh my god, Like when I get paid,
- 11:14Speaker 2: I'm going back.
- 11:15Speaker 1: I'm buying The Lady Bigbeth.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Because the Macbeth story from Leiden and Beth's point of view,
- 11:23Speaker 2: because I need that, because that's ship I love Shakespearean stories,
- 11:29Speaker 2: which one day I might do Macbeth. I might do
- 11:32Speaker 2: Macbeth one of these days, one Hamlet.
- 11:35Speaker 3: After I'm done with this line of books. The one
- 11:38Speaker 3: book series I really want to get started on is
- 11:40Speaker 3: The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson, because I hear it's
- 11:43Speaker 3: really good and those who know we've I've already read
- 11:47Speaker 3: some of Sanderson's work, even though it was not technically his,
- 11:50Speaker 3: but he was the one who stepped up to finish
- 11:52Speaker 3: the story. You know, of course I'm talking about Time. Yeah,
- 11:56Speaker 3: the Wheel of Time, the last three books. Was it
- 12:00Speaker 3: book twelve through fourteen?
- 12:01Speaker 1: Or was it book I think it was?
- 12:04Speaker 3: No, No, it was twelve. But the thing is twelve
- 12:07Speaker 3: was already pretty much written out by Robert Jordan, he
- 12:11Speaker 3: just finished it, and then thirteen and fourteen was completely
- 12:14Speaker 3: just going off the source material, the notes. And we
- 12:17Speaker 3: are also joined today by my dog Shelley. As you
- 12:19Speaker 3: can see, she's making herself comfortable on my perfectly cleaning
- 12:24Speaker 3: bed sheets. And oh look she's climbed.
- 12:27Speaker 1: She's she's she's burrowing on she's.
- 12:30Speaker 3: Burrowing, she's making her little nest. This is what she does.
- 12:33Speaker 3: She rearranges my bed. She's like hello, like huh, bunch.
- 12:37Speaker 3: And but anyway, so we've we've literally talked about a
- 12:42Speaker 3: bunch of books that we're planning on reading, and yet
- 12:44Speaker 3: we're not actually talking We have yet to talk about
- 12:45Speaker 3: the book we're actually going to talk about today exactly.
- 12:49Speaker 3: So enough dilly dad dallying enough thithering and pithering and
- 12:54Speaker 3: pillaging and shit. Today we are going to be talking
- 12:57Speaker 3: about a book, a book by a wonderful author by
- 13:05Speaker 3: the name of Cassandra Claire. For those of you who
- 13:07Speaker 3: know she is, you know, I'm pretty sure you already
- 13:11Speaker 3: know which book this is going to be. For those
- 13:13Speaker 3: of you who don't know, Cassandra Claire is well known
- 13:15Speaker 3: for her series The Mortal Instruments. Uh so, we are
- 13:21Speaker 3: going to be going into the Mortal Instruments series. And
- 13:25Speaker 3: this is what I meant by this is what I
- 13:27Speaker 3: meant earlier when I said we're going back to our
- 13:30Speaker 3: rude sel.
- 13:31Speaker 2: My god, that looks terribly blown out. There'll be an
- 13:34Speaker 2: image on there.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Continue yep. So The Mortal Instruments is the start of
- 13:41Speaker 3: her shadow Hunter series. Novel The Mortal Instruments is like
- 13:48Speaker 3: I think, like six books. Yes, yes, there's six books.
- 13:52Speaker 3: I've read them all and oh I read them on
- 13:58Speaker 3: my read them on Kindle, I read them on Apple.
- 14:03Speaker 3: That's what I did, as.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I am, Yes I did, you sure did?
- 14:08Speaker 3: I sure did? Yes, I did. Anyway. So, so the
- 14:15Speaker 3: book we're starting with today is a City of Bones.
- 14:18Speaker 3: The reason why I said, the reason why I said,
- 14:20Speaker 3: we're going back to our roots. Because this series has
- 14:22Speaker 3: been adapted into several live action features, so of course
- 14:27Speaker 3: it was originally adapted into a movie. I'm not really
- 14:32Speaker 3: going to talk about the movie because the only thing
- 14:34Speaker 3: I need to say about the movie it was that
- 14:36Speaker 3: it was terrible.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I saw that in theaters back in the day, and yeah,
- 14:40Speaker 2: it wasn't that great.
- 14:41Speaker 3: It wasn't that great. I had already read most of
- 14:45Speaker 3: the series by that point, and I'm just over here
- 14:49Speaker 3: like mm hmmmmm mm hmmm mmmmm, no signor no, no, ma'am,
- 14:58Speaker 3: and I was. I was thoroughly disappointed by it. But
- 15:04Speaker 3: I've read and reread this series several times. This is
- 15:07Speaker 3: one of my more favorite series, and I was happy
- 15:12Speaker 3: that it did. They did decide to remake The Mortal
- 15:17Speaker 3: Instruments into a TV show instead. It was originally streamed
- 15:23Speaker 3: on Hulu and there was like there was about two seasons.
- 15:29Speaker 3: They did make it about like two or three seasons
- 15:31Speaker 3: before the show was ultimately canceled. And the show, I
- 15:35Speaker 3: will say, was decent, and they had a more modern
- 15:39Speaker 3: take to the shadow Hunters and the characters, so like
- 15:43Speaker 3: throughout this throughout the written story, the main characters the
- 15:48Speaker 3: shadow Hunters, who are a race of half angels quote
- 15:53Speaker 3: unquote half angels who basically police the shadow world, the
- 16:00Speaker 3: or the down world as they call it, so they
- 16:02Speaker 3: defend the world from demons, and they also police the
- 16:08Speaker 3: half human populations, so that includes the vampire population, the
- 16:15Speaker 3: werewolf population, the warlock population. Warlocks in this series are
- 16:21Speaker 3: a race of half human half demon and oh where
- 16:25Speaker 3: do you go?
- 16:26Speaker 1: Okay, there you go, I'm back.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Sorry, he's he's back. And the fourth race that they
- 16:34Speaker 3: also govern is the Fay. So if you're very into
- 16:37Speaker 3: Celtic mythology and the Fay, Cassandra Claire did a really
- 16:41Speaker 3: good job with the Fay in this the way she's
- 16:44Speaker 3: written them, they they're very they are very faithful to
- 16:50Speaker 3: she stayed faithful to like the stories of the Fay,
- 16:55Speaker 3: how they are, how they're very mischievous, and how if
- 16:57Speaker 3: you're not careful, they could end up like luring you
- 17:00Speaker 3: into traps. And most of the time it's not really
- 17:04Speaker 3: lethal being around them, but in some cases they they
- 17:07Speaker 3: could trick you into falling into like some sort of
- 17:11Speaker 3: charm that makes you dance your ass off until your
- 17:13Speaker 3: feet bleed, and yeah, that sounds about right, and there
- 17:17Speaker 3: they also talk about the Seily and Unciily Courts, and
- 17:21Speaker 3: for the most part in the in the Mortal Instruments series,
- 17:24Speaker 3: you've only they only having dealings with the Seily Court.
- 17:29Speaker 3: But the Uncily Court does make an appearance in one
- 17:33Speaker 3: of her later series, and I believe that's the Dark Artifices.
- 17:38Speaker 3: But that's but we're not focused on that today. We're
- 17:40Speaker 3: gonna be focusing on the Mortal Instruments, particularly book one,
- 17:43Speaker 3: City of Bones. And I will say this book, it
- 17:49Speaker 3: is very it is an interesting, uh, it is an
- 17:52Speaker 3: interesting book. It sets the stage for the rest of
- 17:54Speaker 3: the series because there's like there's three aside from the
- 17:58Speaker 3: Mortal Instruments, there's now three other series that take place
- 18:01Speaker 3: within the world of the within the shadow Hunter story.
- 18:06Speaker 3: So there is more.
- 18:07Speaker 1: There's more than that now well.
- 18:09Speaker 3: There's no so like there's there's like standalone novels, and
- 18:13Speaker 3: then there's also like there's three other like series like
- 18:18Speaker 3: like sequences of books, and one of them is The
- 18:22Speaker 3: Infernal Devices, which takes place like about one to two
- 18:26Speaker 3: hundred years this is back in the Victorian era England.
- 18:30Speaker 3: And then the other one, the Dark Artifacts Artifices, takes
- 18:34Speaker 3: place after the events of the Immortal Instruments, after the
- 18:36Speaker 3: sixth book has ended, and there's another one.
- 18:41Speaker 1: There's two more.
- 18:42Speaker 2: There's the Last there's the Last Hours, which story finished,
- 18:47Speaker 2: and then there's The Eldest Curses, which two of the
- 18:50Speaker 2: three of the books are out right now.
- 18:52Speaker 3: Okay, so she I didn't know about that one, then I, okay,
- 18:56Speaker 3: learn everything, learned something every day, and I've only read
- 19:00Speaker 3: at the Dark Artifices, and I started reading The Infernal Devices,
- 19:05Speaker 3: but for some reason I can't. I keep like, I
- 19:08Speaker 3: don't know what happened. I look at my I look
- 19:11Speaker 3: at iTunes and says I finished it, and I'm like,
- 19:14Speaker 3: I barely remember the story. What's going on?
- 19:17Speaker 2: So so, but yeah, there's the Last Hours, then there's
- 19:22Speaker 2: the Eldest Curses, and then there's gonna be one more
- 19:25Speaker 2: that that rounds out, that ends out the whole book
- 19:29Speaker 2: series as a whole. It's gonna be called Wicked Powers,
- 19:32Speaker 2: and there's gonna be three books in that, and the
- 19:34Speaker 2: first one for that does not come out until twenty
- 19:37Speaker 2: twenty six.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Okay, she's a lot. Okay, I need to like go
- 19:43Speaker 3: back and read them. Well, I don't know, I've already
- 19:45Speaker 3: read the Dark Artifices and Mortal Instruments.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I just got to last hours Eldest Curses, and.
- 19:49Speaker 3: I gotta finish up the Infernal Devices because the Infernal
- 19:52Speaker 3: Devices do tie into the Mortal Instruments. There are several
- 19:55Speaker 3: characters that do appear in the Mortal Instruments that originated
- 19:58Speaker 3: from the Infernal Devices. But anyway, so.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Before we begin, she have the only one that read this, sir, no,
- 20:15Speaker 2: don't don't choose me. So now I know a little
- 20:21Speaker 2: bit about the series, of course, but from the movie.
- 20:24Speaker 2: That sad excuse of the movie. But I've always wanted
- 20:26Speaker 2: to read this series, and I thought about doing it
- 20:28Speaker 2: for audiobook. Then I thought I stumbled upon an amazing discovery.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Apparently Cassandra Claire loves a graphic novel adaptation. She's had several,
- 20:41Speaker 2: She's not like two or three of her books, and
- 20:43Speaker 2: they never be able to complete the series The Mortal Instruments.
- 20:47Speaker 2: But there's one currently going on the manga that is
- 20:51Speaker 2: gone through Yen Press with the artist Cassandra Jean and
- 20:55Speaker 2: right now, as of right now, they have the first
- 20:58Speaker 2: four books out the two volumes per book, and right
- 21:03Speaker 2: now the next volume is going to be starting.
- 21:05Speaker 1: The fifth book.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Then after that, of course, just so there's about three more,
- 21:10Speaker 2: no four more volumes, because there's gonna be two for
- 21:14Speaker 2: the next book and then two for the last, and
- 21:17Speaker 2: then of course they made a manga for the prequels.
- 21:21Speaker 1: That's three volumes for one for each book.
- 21:24Speaker 2: So I mean, I could kind of contribute a little bit,
- 21:27Speaker 2: so I know, I know what we're talking about basically,
- 21:31Speaker 2: I mean, we're going over the actual novels, but I'm
- 21:34Speaker 2: not I'm going in not totally clueless. So but if
- 21:37Speaker 2: you want to check that out, Yin Press does the
- 21:41Speaker 2: graphic novel or manga version of these stories, and they
- 21:46Speaker 2: it does a marvelous job.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I love the artwork of this.
- 21:51Speaker 2: So anyway, continue gone with the story of the City
- 21:56Speaker 2: of Bones, which will be the first two volumes of
- 21:58Speaker 2: the graphic novel from you, because are you wondering what?
- 22:03Speaker 2: I wanted to give the shout out to the artists too,
- 22:07Speaker 2: uh m hmmm.
- 22:11Speaker 3: So anyway, So, like we said, the Mortal Instruments is
- 22:17Speaker 3: a story surrounding a world where angels and demons exist
- 22:22Speaker 3: and their children fight for either the survival or the
- 22:27Speaker 3: destruction of the world. Now, before we actually get into
- 22:32Speaker 3: the story concerning the main characters, just to give a
- 22:35Speaker 3: little backstory about the shadow Hunters and the world of
- 22:41Speaker 3: the Mortal Instruments altogether. So it really this all starts
- 22:47Speaker 3: about a thousand years ago, at the height of the
- 22:49Speaker 3: Dark Ages. So back then, demons were continuously materializing in
- 22:58Speaker 3: our world and they were spreading fear. They were terrorizing people,
- 23:02Speaker 3: they were massacring entire villages and cities. It was getting
- 23:07Speaker 3: to the point where they were almost completely overwhelming the world,
- 23:11Speaker 3: and there were people, there were pockets and groups of
- 23:14Speaker 3: people that were fighting back against these demonic forces. But unfortunately,
- 23:21Speaker 3: conventional weaponry has little to no effect on demons, because
- 23:25Speaker 3: the thing about demons is that when they enter our world,
- 23:28Speaker 3: they're really not truly entering our world fully, so they're physical.
- 23:33Speaker 3: They can appear in a physical form here, but if
- 23:35Speaker 3: you manage to kill one, well, it just vanishes and
- 23:38Speaker 3: goes back to the dimension that came from. And so technically,
- 23:42Speaker 3: even though you've killed the demon, the demon will eventually
- 23:47Speaker 3: return if it finds a way. Now, it was getting
- 23:54Speaker 3: to the point where humanity was pretty much going to
- 23:57Speaker 3: be wiped out, and seemed like all hope was los
- 24:00Speaker 3: blah blah blah, you know the usual. All all hope
- 24:03Speaker 3: is loss. Until there was a group of demon hunters
- 24:08Speaker 3: led by a man named Jonathan shadow Hunter. Uh. These
- 24:11Speaker 3: demon hunters figured out a way to summon an angel.
- 24:15Speaker 3: And they didn't just summon any angel. They summoned a
- 24:19Speaker 3: bona fide archangel, an archangel by the name of Razil. Now,
- 24:25Speaker 3: when they summoned Rozil, Jonathan's shadow Hunter pleaded with the
- 24:29Speaker 3: angel to grant him and his followers the power and
- 24:34Speaker 3: tools necessary to effectively combat these demonic hordes, and Rozil,
- 24:40Speaker 3: seeing that Jonathan shadow Hunter's intentions were pure, he granted
- 24:46Speaker 3: his wish. So he gave the shadow He gave Jonathan
- 24:51Speaker 3: and his shadow Hunters because because after this point they
- 24:55Speaker 3: began to call themselves by Jonathan's name, He gave them
- 25:03Speaker 3: multiple tools. He gave them a book called the Great Book,
- 25:07Speaker 3: which contains a list of these runes, angelic runes that
- 25:14Speaker 3: give that will grant them special power. Now the thing
- 25:17Speaker 3: is on their own. Normal humans can't use angelic runes.
- 25:21Speaker 3: They just won't work. If you If a human inscribes
- 25:24Speaker 3: a rone, of course, the rune itself will ward off demons,
- 25:28Speaker 3: but they won't be able to activate the ability that
- 25:31Speaker 3: the rone provides. So alongside this book, he also gave
- 25:37Speaker 3: the shadow Hunters a special material called Atamus. It's a
- 25:41Speaker 3: crystalline material almost looks kind of like an opaque. It's
- 25:46Speaker 3: like a metal, but but it's opaque, and depending on
- 25:49Speaker 3: how it's forged, it can come out looking crystal, very
- 25:53Speaker 3: crystal like, and he showed them how to fashion. He
- 25:57Speaker 3: gave them a rundown of how to fashion atomis into
- 26:01Speaker 3: effective weapons and tools, primarily a special kind of style
- 26:06Speaker 3: as tool or like a pen called a stelle. And
- 26:09Speaker 3: with these stellas, the shadow Hunters are able to inscribe
- 26:13Speaker 3: rooms not only on different surfaces to activate their effects,
- 26:16Speaker 3: but on their own body. But like I said, they
- 26:20Speaker 3: can't use these yet without little extra help. So aside
- 26:25Speaker 3: from Atamus and the Gray Book, Razil gave gave them
- 26:30Speaker 3: three instruments, the Mortal Cup, the Mortal Sword, and the
- 26:37Speaker 3: Mortal Mirror. Now, the Mortal Mirror, no one really knows
- 26:41Speaker 3: what happened to it, and they don't really know what
- 26:43Speaker 3: its purpose was, so it's considered it's considered lost. The
- 26:49Speaker 3: Mortal or at least they'll figure you'll figure they'll actually
- 26:53Speaker 3: reveal where the Mortal Mirror is and what happened to
- 26:56Speaker 3: it later on in the series, but it's not gonna
- 26:58Speaker 3: happen here, and I'm not gonna spoil it for you guys.
- 27:00Speaker 3: The Mortal Sword, the Mortal Sword will make an appearance
- 27:04Speaker 3: in this book and its purpose it was given. It
- 27:09Speaker 3: was originally used by Jonathan shadow Hunter to fight the
- 27:11Speaker 3: Demon Hordes, but after he died it was it was
- 27:15Speaker 3: simply given to a group of shadow Hunters called the
- 27:20Speaker 3: Silent Brothers and they keep it and the the Mortal
- 27:24Speaker 3: Sword doesn't have any real special abilities aside from it
- 27:29Speaker 3: compels shadow Hunters to speak only the truth. So if
- 27:32Speaker 3: you're holding the sword, it causes you to speak the truth. Now.
- 27:36Speaker 3: The third and most important, probably the most important instrument
- 27:41Speaker 3: that the shadow Hunters possess, is the Mortal Cup. Because
- 27:45Speaker 3: the Mortal Cup, it is a golden chalice, kind of
- 27:48Speaker 3: holy grailed type of cup made made of Atabus the
- 27:52Speaker 3: angelic material, Uh, that angelic material, and it is filled
- 27:57Speaker 3: to the brim with Raziel's angel blood. Razil gave Jonathan
- 28:05Speaker 3: shadow Hunter the Mortal Cup and filled it with his
- 28:08Speaker 3: own blood and told Uh and told shadow Hunter to
- 28:12Speaker 3: drink his blood. This will give this will give the
- 28:15Speaker 3: shadow Hunters the abilities, uh somewhat angelic abilities, So it'll
- 28:21Speaker 3: it'll make them stronger, they'll give them better faster and
- 28:24Speaker 3: better reflexes. And they're basically they become hardier people, right,
- 28:29Speaker 3: They're a lot, They're a lot tougher, They're stronger, they
- 28:32Speaker 3: have higher endurance, and most importantly, with angelic blood flowing
- 28:36Speaker 3: through their veins, they will have the ability to use
- 28:40Speaker 3: the angelic runs to activate them as well as properly
- 28:44Speaker 3: use Atomis to its full ability because Adamis has its
- 28:47Speaker 3: own unique properties as well. That's that's tied deeply to
- 28:50Speaker 3: the angelic hosts. So with the Mortal Cup, Jonathan shadow
- 28:56Speaker 3: Hunter drank the Angel's blood and became the very first.
- 29:01Speaker 3: So the shadow Hunters they are nephilim, half angel half humans,
- 29:06Speaker 3: but they typically go by the Moniker's shadow Hunters, and
- 29:13Speaker 3: Jonathan shadow Hunter directed his followers to drink the Angel's
- 29:17Speaker 3: blood as well, so his little merry band of Demon
- 29:20Speaker 3: Hunters became the very first shadow Hunters, and from there
- 29:24Speaker 3: they set out. They began pushing back the effectively pushing
- 29:27Speaker 3: back and combating the demon hordes and they started spreading,
- 29:32Speaker 3: they started actually recruiting more people to become shadow Hunters,
- 29:35Speaker 3: to the point where now shadow Hunters are found pretty
- 29:39Speaker 3: much all over the world, but they're still a very
- 29:41Speaker 3: small they're a very small group. And in modern times,
- 29:47Speaker 3: the shadow Hunters have their own secret country. It's a
- 29:51Speaker 3: country hidden somewhere in Europe. I believe. They said it
- 29:54Speaker 3: was somewhere between France and Germany, so like right where
- 29:58Speaker 3: the borders of France and Germany meets, there's this little
- 30:00Speaker 3: strip of land that's hidden, and that is the shadow
- 30:03Speaker 3: Hunter homeland called Idris. And the shadow Hunters form their
- 30:08Speaker 3: own government they call the Conclave or the Clave. And
- 30:14Speaker 3: they now now that they've set they've effect pretty much
- 30:18Speaker 3: effectively pushed out a vast majority of the demon of
- 30:22Speaker 3: the demon Hordes, and they've set up wards in place
- 30:25Speaker 3: to basically seal off our dimension from large scale incursions. Now,
- 30:31Speaker 3: some demons are still able to slip through the cracks,
- 30:33Speaker 3: but not as much as they used to during the
- 30:36Speaker 3: Dark Ages. And now, aside from the demons, the shadow
- 30:41Speaker 3: Hunters govern and police the down World. The down World
- 30:46Speaker 3: is basically this hidden underworld where all the other half
- 30:49Speaker 3: human race, half human or sub human races exist now.
- 30:53Speaker 3: The shadow Hunters, of course enforce a strict, a strict
- 30:59Speaker 3: policy of secret. Not to like pull from Stephanie Meyer.
- 31:03Speaker 3: But they're kind of like the Vulture, but not as
- 31:06Speaker 3: but not as you know, gung ho. Okay, the shadow
- 31:11Speaker 3: Hunters can be pretty gun ho, though not gonna lie. Uh.
- 31:14Speaker 3: So that's what brings us to our story in modern times.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Now before we start, now, before before we start with
- 31:25Speaker 3: the full story, I do want to talk about a
- 31:28Speaker 3: little bit about some events that happened before everything starts.
- 31:32Speaker 3: So about fifteen years before the story begins, there was
- 31:37Speaker 3: an uprising in Indris. This uprising was led by a
- 31:42Speaker 3: shadow hunter by the name of Valentine. Valentine and a
- 31:47Speaker 3: small group of people who followed him call calling themselves
- 31:51Speaker 3: the Circle.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Not fucking Valiander, not that bitch.
- 31:58Speaker 3: Hang on pause, my mom's calling me. Oh hello, Hey,
- 32:08Speaker 3: what's up. M It's it's the experienced credit lock. And
- 32:33Speaker 3: I don't remember if I think we did lock it,
- 32:36Speaker 3: because I think I did have you activate your credit monitoring,
- 32:39Speaker 3: because like I set it up for you, and then
- 32:42Speaker 3: we did do the text message, or we tried to,
- 32:44Speaker 3: but you couldn't get the text, so we had it
- 32:45Speaker 3: sent to you through an email. I think it is
- 32:49Speaker 3: turned on, but I can't check from my end. You
- 32:52Speaker 3: have to log in through your through the app if
- 33:00Speaker 3: it's well, wait, didn't didn't we see the alert that
- 33:06Speaker 3: your social security was found on the dark web? We didn't, Okay,
- 33:11Speaker 3: thank god? All right, Well, okay, because the thing is okay,
- 33:17Speaker 3: because I can't remember if I had you freeze your
- 33:20Speaker 3: credit with the other two bureaus, because if it's if
- 33:23Speaker 3: they go through, like, if you haven't frozen any of
- 33:25Speaker 3: your credit reports, then Equal Facts and TransUnion should be fine.
- 33:29Speaker 3: But so if they run your credit through them, it
- 33:32Speaker 3: should go through. But if you go through Equal Facts
- 33:37Speaker 3: and TransUnion, yes, if you haven't frozen them. But okay, cool.
- 33:46Speaker 3: So just log into your profile and there's a section
- 33:53Speaker 3: for credit, Like right when you log in, there's gonna
- 33:55Speaker 3: be like you'll see your credit score displayed. Just tap
- 33:57Speaker 3: on it and it's gonna take you to the credit
- 33:59Speaker 3: page and there's a there's like if you scroll down
- 34:03Speaker 3: the page, uh, there's gonna be a section that says
- 34:08Speaker 3: like lock freeze your credit or lock your or something
- 34:12Speaker 3: like that, and you should be able to hold on
- 34:14Speaker 3: let me I have the app on my phone. Let
- 34:17Speaker 3: me double check. It's just ex Experience, right, experience, Yeah,
- 34:22Speaker 3: Experience Experience. That's the only one that was locked. What
- 34:26Speaker 3: you said, I think so, okay, okay, okay, yeah, okay,
- 34:34Speaker 3: I'm sorry. So when you go into the app, you
- 34:35Speaker 3: have to like right right when you sign in, you
- 34:39Speaker 3: should see in a section that says my protection summary,
- 34:41Speaker 3: and your credit score should be displaying there. So just
- 34:44Speaker 3: tap on it and in the upper right hand corner
- 34:48Speaker 3: of that next page you're on, where it says credit,
- 34:51Speaker 3: you'll tap on those three dots and then hit credit
- 34:53Speaker 3: lock and freeze and you'll see the Experience credit lock
- 34:56Speaker 3: feature there. And it's a little toggle switch. You can
- 34:59Speaker 3: just toggle it on and off. Okay, okay, okay, then
- 35:03Speaker 3: I'll do that.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Let me see.
- 35:05Speaker 3: Do you need that one too, okay, okay, okay, thank you? Now? Yeah,
- 35:10Speaker 3: if you if you do it, are you are you
- 35:12Speaker 3: gonna do it? Are you doing it tomorrow or what tonight?
- 35:17Speaker 3: Right now? Ah? You doing it right now? Okay? Well,
- 35:22Speaker 3: if you need help with it, call me again and
- 35:24Speaker 3: I'll show you how to do it. Kay, Yeah, you
- 35:37Speaker 3: wrote it down though.
- 35:38Speaker 5: Right, okay, mm hmm. Okay, all right, mm hmm, all right, bye, I.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Have moms set up on Aura. Yeah, so I'm just like,
- 36:06Speaker 3: I was like, oh shit, because she hardly uses it.
- 36:09Speaker 3: But I was just like, well, hey, Mom, I can
- 36:10Speaker 3: give this like identity protection to you for free. Anyway,
- 36:13Speaker 3: where was I at? Oh yeah, the Uprising?
- 36:16Speaker 1: Yes, the uprising?
- 36:18Speaker 3: Unpause, so yeah, So fifteen years ago a shadow hunter
- 36:24Speaker 3: by the name of Valentine led an uprising, so him
- 36:28Speaker 3: and his small group of shadow Hunters that were called
- 36:30Speaker 3: the Circle.
- 36:31Speaker 6: They.
- 36:34Speaker 3: They all fell into Valentine's belief that the down world
- 36:39Speaker 3: should be perched. So pretty much any non human race
- 36:42Speaker 3: should be completely annihilated, all right, completely wiped out. So
- 36:47Speaker 3: the vampires, wear, wolves, fay, warlocks, all of them should
- 36:52Speaker 3: be completely eradicated. And basically, basically he believes that the
- 36:57Speaker 3: shadow hunters should stop hiding from the rest of the
- 37:01Speaker 3: world and rise up and take a more active role
- 37:06Speaker 3: in the world. Basically, basically, he thought that the shadow
- 37:10Speaker 3: hunter should be on top because objectively speaking, shadow hunters
- 37:15Speaker 3: are stronger than humans and also because they are graced
- 37:21Speaker 3: by the power of the angels blah blah blah, they
- 37:24Speaker 3: should be the ones in charge and they should, and
- 37:27Speaker 3: they should take much stricter steps to protect the world
- 37:32Speaker 3: from demons. So part of the uprising was to seize
- 37:37Speaker 3: all of the mortal instruments, the sword, the cup, and
- 37:41Speaker 3: eventually try to find the mirror. But they did manage
- 37:44Speaker 3: to steal a cup, and they there was a massive uh.
- 37:49Speaker 3: It was basically like a revolt in the heart of Idrius.
- 37:55Speaker 3: But unfortunately for Valentine, his circle was over, was overwhelmed,
- 38:01Speaker 3: and they were all either executed or arrested. Most of
- 38:05Speaker 3: them were arrested, several of them were given amnesty for
- 38:10Speaker 3: providing information. Some of them were put on like permanent
- 38:13Speaker 3: house arrests. Valentine was believed to have died, but no
- 38:20Speaker 3: one was able to confirm his death, and he had disappeared,
- 38:24Speaker 3: and no one knew where he went. So I will
- 38:31Speaker 3: tell you. I'll go ahead and just tell you guys
- 38:32Speaker 3: right now. The story follows Valentine's daughter, Clarissa Fray. Now,
- 38:40Speaker 3: when after the uprising see leading up to the uprising,
- 38:44Speaker 3: Valentine's wife, Clari's mother. You know, I knew I was
- 38:49Speaker 3: supposed to do something. Who Jocelyn So, that's her name,
- 39:13Speaker 3: Jocelyn So. Claire's mother Jocelyn. She was at one point
- 39:20Speaker 3: married to Valentine and she was a member. She was
- 39:23Speaker 3: a member of the Circle. The thing is, towards the end,
- 39:26Speaker 3: she she had become disillusioned and she decided to turn
- 39:31Speaker 3: against Valentine, and she did this by stealing the Mortal
- 39:35Speaker 3: Cup right from under Valentine's nose. And Jocelyn disappeared from
- 39:41Speaker 3: the world of shadow Hunters. She abandoned Idris. She completely
- 39:45Speaker 3: cut herself off from the shadow Hunters and also in
- 39:50Speaker 3: in in some cases, she cut herself off from the
- 39:54Speaker 3: down world. And the thing is, she was pregnant with
- 39:59Speaker 3: Clari at the time, and when she made her escape,
- 40:02Speaker 3: she eventually gave birth and she decided to raise Clary
- 40:05Speaker 3: as a normal person. The thing about shadow Hunters is
- 40:09Speaker 3: that they have the ability to see through glamours, the
- 40:15Speaker 3: typical glamours that many downworlders use to hide what they
- 40:18Speaker 3: truly are. So Warlocks typically have some sort of inhuman
- 40:24Speaker 3: feature that is either difficult to conceal or very noticeable,
- 40:29Speaker 3: so like a cloven hoof, wings, cat's eyes, purple or
- 40:34Speaker 3: pink skin, and shadow Hunters can see through these kind
- 40:38Speaker 3: of glamours. And it's the same with the Fay, so
- 40:40Speaker 3: the things that typically hide the downworld from humans, shadow
- 40:45Speaker 3: hunters can see through. And what Jocelyn ended up doing
- 40:50Speaker 3: as Clary began to notice more as she grew up
- 40:53Speaker 3: and she began to notice more and more of the downworld,
- 40:56Speaker 3: Joscelyn hired a particular warlock to cast a memory spell
- 41:02Speaker 3: on Clari. So throughout for the first fifteen years of
- 41:05Speaker 3: her life, her memory of the down World was continuously
- 41:08Speaker 3: being depressed and blocked. So technically she could still see
- 41:15Speaker 3: into the down world, but her because of the spell
- 41:18Speaker 3: blocking her memories, it basically gloss caused her to gloss
- 41:22Speaker 3: over those features, so oh look like, oh look, there's
- 41:25Speaker 3: a dude with antlers walking down the street. Nothing to
- 41:28Speaker 3: see there. So so she lives her whole life not
- 41:34Speaker 3: realizing that there's an entire world existing alongside the normal world,
- 41:39Speaker 3: all right, that is until she gets that is, until
- 41:47Speaker 3: she's about fifteen years old. Clarie is spending time with
- 41:51Speaker 3: her best friend Simon, and they're out and about. This
- 41:53Speaker 3: is taking place in New York City as in like
- 41:56Speaker 3: the Big as in the Big Apple. And as they're
- 42:00Speaker 3: spending time, they're going out there being done teenagers, they
- 42:04Speaker 3: come across a nightclub, and what draws Clary there she
- 42:08Speaker 3: notices strange markings on the sign of the nightclub. The
- 42:12Speaker 3: nightclub in particular is called the called the Pandemonium. So
- 42:17Speaker 3: she convinces her best friend Simon to go with her
- 42:19Speaker 3: into the club. They're having a good time until she
- 42:22Speaker 3: notices that there's three strange teenagers following a kid what
- 42:31Speaker 3: appears to be an unensuming guy into a into a
- 42:36Speaker 3: storage closet. And the thing is what cas what caught
- 42:39Speaker 3: her attention was that all three teenagers were armed to
- 42:42Speaker 3: the teeth with all kinds of weapons, strange looking swords.
- 42:47Speaker 3: One dude had a bow, one dude had like a
- 42:49Speaker 3: weird crystal looking sword. The girl that was with them
- 42:53Speaker 3: had a strange golden like she was dressed like, let
- 42:56Speaker 3: me tell you something. The girl that was with them,
- 42:58Speaker 3: I'm gonna tell you right now, her name is is
- 42:59Speaker 3: about Lightwood, and uh, this girl was dressed to impress
- 43:05Speaker 3: and and she was. What she basically did was like
- 43:09Speaker 3: she led the guy into, uh, this unassuming guy into
- 43:14Speaker 3: the closet, into the storage closet, and Clarire noticed that
- 43:19Speaker 3: she was covered like parts of uh, I'm sorry, she
- 43:25Speaker 3: she didn't notice the rooms because her dress was design.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Isabelle's dress was careful, carefully covered the rooms, but she
- 43:33Speaker 3: noticed that the two that there was two guys following
- 43:37Speaker 3: Isabelle and this rather unassuming guy into the storage closet
- 43:41Speaker 3: and they were armed to the teeth. So Clarie. Yeah,
- 43:45Speaker 3: so Clarie, when she curious, she follows them and sneaks
- 43:49Speaker 3: into the storage closet and just and right as she
- 43:55Speaker 3: enters the closet, she sees these three teenagers brutally murder
- 44:01Speaker 3: this guy. And what's even more confusing is that as
- 44:04Speaker 3: soon as they run him through and like stab and
- 44:07Speaker 3: cack him down, he vanishes.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Yeah you sure do, mm hmm.
- 44:13Speaker 3: And she freaks out the three kids as who are
- 44:17Speaker 3: as it turns out to be shadow hunters. They notice her,
- 44:20Speaker 3: and Clari threatens to report them because she just witnessed
- 44:23Speaker 3: what she assumes is a murder. And the thing is
- 44:26Speaker 3: is that they're all like they're confused, but they're like, okay,
- 44:31Speaker 3: go ahead, see what happens, uh, Clarie. Before she can
- 44:35Speaker 3: call for help, her friend comes into the closet and
- 44:38Speaker 3: is wondering, like what's going on, and Clarie tells him
- 44:40Speaker 3: like these guys just attacked this kid. And when Simon
- 44:44Speaker 3: looks at where she's pointing, he doesn't see anything. Yeah,
- 44:48Speaker 3: does not see anything, And Clary is confused, and you know,
- 44:53Speaker 3: she's somewhat traumatized. She's somewhat traumatized, but there's nothing that
- 45:01Speaker 3: she can do. She eventually just takes off and.
- 45:04Speaker 2: She not And.
- 45:07Speaker 3: At first these guys want to like are curious as
- 45:10Speaker 3: how she can see how a normally looks a normal
- 45:12Speaker 3: looking girl like her who they they often refer to
- 45:16Speaker 3: her as a mundane. The shadow Hunters often refer to
- 45:19Speaker 3: humans as mundanes. And you know, it's kind of funny.
- 45:23Speaker 3: It's one of those little it's that little niche that
- 45:25Speaker 3: a lot of these kind of fantasy youth novels do.
- 45:30Speaker 3: Like there's like a if there's like a like a
- 45:35Speaker 3: magical world. The people of the magical world call regular
- 45:39Speaker 3: humans by like some weird name, like of course, muggles.
- 45:43Speaker 3: The mundanes are something like that. And uh so, Claria
- 45:49Speaker 3: ends up leaving the She ends up leaving the Pandemonium,
- 45:55Speaker 3: and she for the most part, goes back to her life,
- 46:01Speaker 3: but slowly, over the next few days, she starts noticing
- 46:04Speaker 3: things are different. She strange. Things are off and some
- 46:09Speaker 3: things are not as what she remembered them to be.
- 46:12Speaker 3: And for Clary, she's very she's very set on living
- 46:17Speaker 3: her own normal life. She's an artist, and she had recently,
- 46:21Speaker 3: up until this point, I've been accepted to like a
- 46:23Speaker 3: prestigious like art school for like an arts program. But
- 46:27Speaker 3: just before she's set to go through like get started
- 46:31Speaker 3: with it, her mother pulls her aside alongside her family,
- 46:36Speaker 3: their family friend guy named Luke, and they tell her
- 46:41Speaker 3: that they're planning on taking a summer trip to this
- 46:45Speaker 3: family cabin. And this is upsetting for Clary because the
- 46:49Speaker 3: thing is is that the program, the program will overlap
- 46:53Speaker 3: with their their supposed trip, and she was very upset
- 46:57Speaker 3: because her mother was very adamant that there's they need
- 47:00Speaker 3: to go. Though while they're arguing, she knows you can
- 47:04Speaker 3: note that Luke is the one is also somewhat on
- 47:06Speaker 3: the fence about it and keeps making comments about, you know,
- 47:10Speaker 3: we should just let her, like we should just let
- 47:13Speaker 3: it happen, you know, some like kind of like sort
- 47:15Speaker 3: of like shared. Him and Jocelyn have these like shared
- 47:19Speaker 3: moments of like they know something's up and they're not
- 47:22Speaker 3: telling Clarie the whole story things like that. So Clarie,
- 47:26Speaker 3: in a huff, ends up walking out of her house
- 47:29Speaker 3: and go spend time with her best friend Simon and
- 47:38Speaker 3: see here. While she's out, she comes across one of
- 47:45Speaker 3: those one of the boys that she encountered at the pandemonium.
- 47:49Speaker 3: This boy, his name is Jace. You know, I will
- 47:54Speaker 3: say this. Jase ends up changing his name multiple times. Yeah,
- 48:03Speaker 3: and and that's because like his heritage is very confusing,
- 48:09Speaker 3: so like what was the originally?
- 48:12Speaker 2: Ah?
- 48:12Speaker 3: Yes, so originally he introduces himself as Jace Whalen. Jace
- 48:19Speaker 3: is more of a nickname. His real name is Jonathan
- 48:22Speaker 3: Christopher or j C or Jace m hm. And Jace
- 48:31Speaker 3: explains who he is, that he is that he and
- 48:34Speaker 3: his friends were shadow hunters, so Isabelle like and her
- 48:38Speaker 3: older brother Alec Lightwood, they are a part. He explains
- 48:42Speaker 3: that they are shadow hunters and he's curious is and
- 48:45Speaker 3: he's Jace shows that he's very curious about Clary and
- 48:49Speaker 3: how is it that she's able to see through their
- 48:54Speaker 3: glamor because shoes that hide them from more from Mundane's site.
- 49:02Speaker 3: And while they're speaking, Clarie does get a call from
- 49:09Speaker 3: her mother and Clarie, who's still kind of reeling from
- 49:13Speaker 3: the revelation that you know, she can see into the
- 49:17Speaker 3: down world, she picks up because she'd been ignoring her
- 49:20Speaker 3: mother up until that point. And when she picks up
- 49:24Speaker 3: the phone, she hears her mother frantically telling Clarie to
- 49:27Speaker 3: to stay away from the house. She sounds like she's
- 49:30Speaker 3: in trouble and it sounds and she also hears noises
- 49:33Speaker 3: in the background that sounds something like there's a fight
- 49:36Speaker 3: going on in in their house. So panicked, Clarie rushes
- 49:41Speaker 3: back to her to her home, and what she finds
- 49:44Speaker 3: is that her house has been her apartment has been
- 49:46Speaker 3: completely turned over all right everything, you know, furniture's broken there,
- 49:51Speaker 3: you know, the walls are torn up. Seemed like it
- 49:54Speaker 3: seemed like the whole place had been ransacked. And she's
- 49:59Speaker 3: she realizes her others missing, and before she can really
- 50:03Speaker 3: like think of what to do next, she is attacked
- 50:06Speaker 3: by this monstrosity of a creature like kind of like
- 50:11Speaker 3: this scorpion like demon, demonic creature. It attacks Clary and
- 50:18Speaker 3: she freaks. She tries, she tries to defend herself, and
- 50:21Speaker 3: Jace ends up showing up and manages to kill the
- 50:25Speaker 3: demon before it can do any before it can do
- 50:27Speaker 3: any harm.
- 50:28Speaker 5: Uh.
- 50:30Speaker 3: That is, the demon did manage to sting Clary. Some
- 50:34Speaker 3: of its blood did get on Clary, and demon blood
- 50:37Speaker 3: is venomous. It's very toxic. So it managed to get
- 50:41Speaker 3: on her, get onto her and injure her. So Jace
- 50:45Speaker 3: was forced to take was forced to take her back
- 50:48Speaker 3: to the shadow Hunter Institute. Now, shadow Hunters they've established
- 50:53Speaker 3: sort of like safe havens in every major in every
- 50:56Speaker 3: major city around the world. So New York, Uh, their
- 51:00Speaker 3: safe haven or institute is located in an old, abandoned church.
- 51:05Speaker 3: So on the outside it looks like an old, closed
- 51:08Speaker 3: down and condemned church, but for those who can see
- 51:12Speaker 3: through it, they can see that it's a like fully
- 51:16Speaker 3: upct and brightly lit institution. Jace takes Clary uh there
- 51:23Speaker 3: to be treated just as she's as she's starting to
- 51:28Speaker 3: feel the full effects of the demon of the demon
- 51:30Speaker 3: venom Jace kind of Jace makes a bit of a
- 51:34Speaker 3: hasty call, pulls out his stelle and traces a healing
- 51:38Speaker 3: room on Clary's skin. Now, I will tell you this,
- 51:41Speaker 3: that was a very dangerous move because because the thing
- 51:45Speaker 3: about humans is that humans cannot are not compatible with
- 51:50Speaker 3: angelic rooms. All right. The power that flows through an angel,
- 51:54Speaker 3: through an angel's room is just too much for a
- 51:56Speaker 3: human to handle, and at the very least, it will
- 52:01Speaker 3: drive them insane. At the very worst, it will mutate
- 52:04Speaker 3: them and turn them into these like kind of like
- 52:07Speaker 3: rage monsters.
- 52:09Speaker 7: So he was taking a rest doing that, Yeah, But well,
- 52:13Speaker 7: turns out the risk paid off because, as it turns out,
- 52:15Speaker 7: she is a shadow hunter. It worked, Okay, cool, So
- 52:20Speaker 7: dodge a bullet right there.
- 52:21Speaker 3: Who Yeah, So after she recovers Clary is uh Is,
- 52:32Speaker 3: she is introduced to the rest of the denizens of
- 52:35Speaker 3: the Institute. So at that moment, it's just Jace the
- 52:39Speaker 3: Light the Lightwood siblings and their mentor, a guy by
- 52:44Speaker 3: the name of Hodge. Now, we later learned that Hodge
- 52:47Speaker 3: was a former member of Valentine's circle, and in the
- 52:50Speaker 3: wake of the uprising, he was given some form of
- 52:54Speaker 3: clemency for information on what Valentine was trying to do,
- 52:58Speaker 3: and so instead of just being completely imprisoned, he was
- 53:03Speaker 3: just simply exiled to He was exiled from Idris and
- 53:08Speaker 3: placed on house arrest inside of the New York Institute.
- 53:11Speaker 3: So Hodge cannot physically leave the institute. He's stuck there
- 53:18Speaker 3: and I mean it, and it is a fitting, a
- 53:20Speaker 3: fitting punishment considering what the Circle in Valentine did, so
- 53:24Speaker 3: he is basically it's it's not a bad deal. He's
- 53:27Speaker 3: in charge of running the institute and he was also
- 53:31Speaker 3: left pretty much put in charge of training the Lightwoods
- 53:34Speaker 3: and later on Jace Whalen when he arrives, because as
- 53:38Speaker 3: far as we know about Jase at this point, he
- 53:41Speaker 3: was he's an orphan. He was He originally lived in
- 53:47Speaker 3: Idris alongside his father in a manner in the countryside
- 53:51Speaker 3: outside of the main city. But one day his father
- 53:56Speaker 3: was I believe the story was his mother. His father
- 54:00Speaker 3: was murdered by like either downworlders or he was killed
- 54:03Speaker 3: in a demon attack, and then because of that, either way,
- 54:08Speaker 3: as far as you know, his dad is dead and
- 54:11Speaker 3: he was sent to live with the Lightwoods in the
- 54:14Speaker 3: New York Institute. So he ends up growing up alongside
- 54:18Speaker 3: the Lightwood's, the Lightwood children, and eventually him and the
- 54:23Speaker 3: oldest Lightwood child, Alec Lightwood, they become best friends and
- 54:28Speaker 3: they decide to become each other's parabati. So shadow Hunters,
- 54:33Speaker 3: there's a special kind of ceremony where they are bonded
- 54:36Speaker 3: with a sort of like a partner. It's not like
- 54:39Speaker 3: a romantic partner. This is more of like a combat
- 54:42Speaker 3: partner or you know, your battle buddy.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Even though Alec is Tote's gay.
- 54:47Speaker 3: Yes and yes, ladies and gentlemen, this is the algibty
- 54:51Speaker 3: exists in the shadow Hunter world. Alec Lightwood is a
- 54:55Speaker 3: flaming homosexual.
- 54:56Speaker 1: Ah, flaming and I love it.
- 54:59Speaker 3: Yep, he's a little bit of he's a little bit
- 55:01Speaker 3: repressed because the thing about the shadow Hunters is they
- 55:04Speaker 3: are pretty old fashioned and not exactly accepting of anything
- 55:10Speaker 3: that's outside of the traditional norm. But you know, eventually
- 55:15Speaker 3: Alec does come to be accepted by his family and well,
- 55:18Speaker 3: of course Jace accepts him for who he for who
- 55:20Speaker 3: he is, but at this point he's still in the
- 55:22Speaker 3: closet and there was a bit of a hilarious confrontation
- 55:26Speaker 3: between him and Clary. Clary instantly calls him out for
- 55:30Speaker 3: being in love with kids, and she even like asks
- 55:34Speaker 3: her his his sister, and Isabelle is just like.
- 55:37Speaker 2: How do you know?
- 55:41Speaker 3: Kind of it's kind of obvious.
- 55:43Speaker 1: It is, it really is, especially in.
- 55:45Speaker 3: The Yeah, and the thing is is that you know,
- 55:50Speaker 3: of course Jace is straight and uh being parapeti, they
- 55:55Speaker 3: can never become romantic partners because there's a big taboo
- 55:58Speaker 3: about parabotize becoming part becoming romantically involved. I won't go
- 56:05Speaker 3: too much into that. The thing is is that being
- 56:07Speaker 3: a parabotize is not just a title. There are actual
- 56:12Speaker 3: rooms that are placed that are traced on each partner.
- 56:16Speaker 3: So like Jason Alec actually drew a special room on
- 56:20Speaker 3: each other. This room, this room is permanent and it
- 56:23Speaker 3: basically creates an emphatic link between them, so they are
- 56:28Speaker 3: aware of each other. They have they have more insight
- 56:30Speaker 3: into each other's uh emotions and because of this, this
- 56:35Speaker 3: makes them better in terms of combat. So they're able
- 56:39Speaker 3: to watch each other's back more effectively and respond to
- 56:42Speaker 3: and respond to each other while they're while they are
- 56:45Speaker 3: out in the field. So just having a parapotide bond
- 56:50Speaker 3: is considered very effective and very useful. So Claire learns
- 57:00Speaker 3: all this and she is she is eventually she is
- 57:03Speaker 3: eventually taken before the Silent Brothers in the City of Bones. Now,
- 57:09Speaker 3: the City of Bones technically does not exist underneath New York,
- 57:17Speaker 3: but it has entrances near every major institution. So the
- 57:23Speaker 3: City of Bones what it is basically is it's like
- 57:26Speaker 3: one big crypt. So whenever a shadow Hunter dies, they
- 57:31Speaker 3: are cremated and their ashes are turned into like a
- 57:37Speaker 3: sort of kind of like a like a mortar or
- 57:39Speaker 3: like a a material which is added to the City
- 57:42Speaker 3: of Bones. So so basically, the City of Bones is
- 57:47Speaker 3: this big kind of underground quote unquote city where it's
- 57:55Speaker 3: not only where all shadow Hunters are in tombs, it's
- 57:59Speaker 3: also where the an order of shadow Hunters called Silent
- 58:04Speaker 3: Brothers have their headquarters. This is where so the Silent Brothers,
- 58:09Speaker 3: they are a group of shadow Hunters who have chosen
- 58:12Speaker 3: sort of like a they're kind of similar to monks,
- 58:16Speaker 3: like like abbot monks, Uh, they choose a more pious life,
- 58:22Speaker 3: and their role is to basically uphold the histories and
- 58:27Speaker 3: the traditions of the shadow Hunters. They take on roles
- 58:31Speaker 3: of like healers and advisors, and they're kind of like
- 58:40Speaker 3: they're kind of like the judicial system of the shadow
- 58:43Speaker 3: Hunter society because the Clave is the ones are the
- 58:46Speaker 3: one The clave are the ones that make the roles
- 58:48Speaker 3: while the while the Silent Brothers they uphold the traditions
- 58:53Speaker 3: and they interpret the laws and the The city of
- 58:58Speaker 3: Bones is All was also the resting place of the
- 59:01Speaker 3: Immortal Sword, and they also at one point kept the
- 59:04Speaker 3: Mortal Cup there as well, before it was stolen and
- 59:09Speaker 3: the main the most shocking thing about the Silent Brothers
- 59:13Speaker 3: is that they purposely place the strongest runs from the
- 59:19Speaker 3: Book of the Great Book onto their bodies. They take
- 59:23Speaker 3: on these very powerful runs, and the thing about these
- 59:26Speaker 3: ruins is that it does cause their bodies to deform.
- 59:31Speaker 3: So even though they do have Rozill's blood in their system,
- 59:35Speaker 3: these more strong, powerful runs are still a little too
- 59:37Speaker 3: much for them to handle. So while they are able
- 59:40Speaker 3: to place the runs on their body, it does cause
- 59:43Speaker 3: their bodies to become disfigured. So whether or not this
- 59:48Speaker 3: is done as part of like the initial part of
- 59:51Speaker 3: their ritual, the Silent Brothers, they all typically wear this
- 59:57Speaker 3: kind of like grayish almost like likes leave. It's like
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: a brownish or like paperis kind of robes, and they
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: always wear their hoods. They always have their hoods up.
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: Their mouths are stitch cloths, so their lips are you
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: can see their lips, and they're all stitch closed and
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: where they're and where their eyes are are just empty sockets.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: M hm.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: So that's part of now we don't really we don't
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: ever really see the full extent of a silent brother's deformity,
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: just their face, so they're kind of hard to look at.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: But and think about the Silent Brothers is that they commute.
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: They can only communicate telepathically, so first time Clary encounters them,
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: they she can hear their voices in their head. They
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: take her down into the City of Bones where they
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: perform a test to determine her heritage and where she
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: comes from, and that's when they discover she has that
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: her memories are some of her memories are missing, but
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: they are able to determine in that she is a
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: shadow hunter. Her mother is Joscelyn Frey or as she
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: was originally known as Jocelyn Morgenstern, and her father is
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: Valentine Morgenstern. So still so they do determine she is
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: a shadow hunter and that her mother was once the
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: wife of a criminal Valentine who led the who led
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: the uprising, and is her father Woo Fun great Ye
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: and she also and she also learns from that her
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: mother had stolen the Mortal Cup to keep it out
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: of Valentine's hands. The thing is, Valentine had wanted to steal,
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: wanted to use the Mortal Cup to increase the shadow
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: hunter numbers, but not because you know, the better police
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: the world, because shadow hunters, their numbers are slowly dwindling,
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: and you know, making more shadow hunters the traditional way
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: is taking a little too long, So Clary searches for
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: more information about her mother's whereabouts alongside Jace, her friend Simon,
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: and the siblings and the Lightwood siblings. Their search does
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: lead them to Clarie's neighbor, woman named Madame Dorothy, who
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: reveals Clarire's memories were blocked after she performed a tarrort.
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: Reading Clary does note that the terror card the tarot
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: cards that Madame Dorothy was using were cards that were
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: hand painted by her mother, and Madame Dorothy reveals that
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: this kind of memory block can only be performed by
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: a high warlock, and as it turns out, the high
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: war there is a high warlock in New York got
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: a warlock by the name of Magnus Bain, now magn
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: His Bain. The way he's described in the book is
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: he's of like Indonesian descent. Mm hm and uh. The
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: thing about warlocks, as I have said before, is that
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: they have some for they have some form of physical
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: deformity that makes them stand out. Sometimes it's a cloven
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: hoofs it could be clawed hands, horns, multi colored skin,
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: or in Magnus's case, cat size, so his eyes look
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: like slided golden cat size. And they go to they
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: they end up approaching Magnus Bain. He's in he was
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: in the middle of celebrating his cat, Chairman Mao's birthday.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Yeah, Chairman.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: You know, honestly, I did not get that reference until
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: I learned the name of the Prime Minister of China
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: at the time, whose name is Chairman Mao, who was
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: chair who was Chairman Mao? And then I thought about that.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: I was just like Magnus Bain, you cheeky bitch. Anyway,
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: so Bain reveals that her mother had hired had hired
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: him to cast a spell on her to block her
- 1:04:18Speaker 3: memories of the down world. The reason why Clary was
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: able to see Jason the Lightwoods at the Pandemonium was
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: because her memory spell was beginning to wear off. The
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: thing is Bain had warned Joscelyn that the older that
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: Clary got, the shorter, the time frame between each spell
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: would become shorter, so the spell would wear off a
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: lot quicker as she's getting older and more mature. And
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: the thing is, he also reveals.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: Hello, there go oh no.
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: Very something, And he does this by pulling out one
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: of his grimoars, and inscribed in the grimoire is a
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: special kind of angelic rune. So of course, if you've
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: seen the cover of the The Mortal Instruments, or you've
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: seen any of the movies, the one room that they
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: use is like this. Uh, it's kind of like I
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: don't know what the pattern is called, but it kind
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: of looks like a kind of like a chevron or
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: like an upside down, like an up an arrow pointing
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: down but stylized so it kind of looks like a
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: half figure eight. I don't know what to describe the shape.
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: But this room is actually a ruin of revealing so
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: often shadow hunters inscribe. It's a permanent room that shadow
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: hunters inscribe them themselves, which helps to boost their ability
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: to see through glamours and the downworld. So he gives
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: us to her and uh after studying it, it's supposed
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: to just being able to see the room helps her
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: to hurt her memories to start clear up and make
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: it more easier to see through the downworld. While at
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: the party, Simon and Isabelle are mingling with the downworlder
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: guests and one of the downworlders kind of tricks Simon
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: into drinking a blue cocktail and Isabelle did warn him
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: not to drink it.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: But you know, a rat, Yeah, he.
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: Gets turned into a rat, and unfortunately a vampire mistake
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: making the rat for one of his friends picks up
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: the rat and takes off with him. So poor little
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: Simon ratt gets kidnapped.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: By a vampire unknowingly.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: Yep. So Clary and Jays have no choice but to
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: chase after the vampire and they track him down to
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: the vampire to this large vampire nests, and they do
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: manage to rescue him from these vampires and turn him
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: back into a human, but this is not before they
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: have a big confrontation with the nests. They fight. They
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: do fight off a large number of vampires and poor thing,
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: he uh, poor thing.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: They managed to turn him back and he is forever
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: traumatized card.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Yeah, he's prevost card mm hmm.
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: So let's see they take him back. So they end
- 1:07:59Speaker 3: up taking Simon back back to the institute and from
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: there and while he's recovering, Clary and Jayce share a
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: bit of an intimate moment they kiss teenage bunks bullshit. Anyway,
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: The thing is that since it was Clarie's was it
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: Clarie's birthday? I think it was.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: I think it was.
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: Oh, let me double check, mm hmmm mm hmm, yep,
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: So yeah, it was her birthday. She so Jason found
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: out that it was her sixteenth birthday, and he takes
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: her up to the institute's garden and where he gives
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: her a rock made out of adamus. But this rock
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: is kind of like a tool, is a tool used
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: by shadow hunters because it has a room that causes
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: it to light up, so it's like a one little
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: bright rock. And and it's when they're in the garden
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: they share they kiss. But it was right at that
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: moment that Simon walks in and kind of gets a
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: little he gets a little butt hurt because he has
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: his own he had his own feelings for Clary, and
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: he ends up storming out of the institute and leave
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: and leaving when he showed up and Clary pulled away,
- 1:09:38Speaker 3: and she kind of dismisses Jase's feelings on the matter,
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: and this kind of hurts him in well, in very
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: Jace fashion, he responds with sarcasm and wit and walks away.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: Heartbroken.
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: Yeah, so, you know, Clarire is kind of in a kerfuff.
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: So she uh trying to figure out what she what
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: she's going to do, you know about this whole situation.
- 1:10:06Speaker 3: She's in her room, she's drawing in her sketch pad,
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: because at the end of the day, she still is
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: an artist who's still very passionate about her work. And
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: as she's as she's drawing, she gets distracted. And she
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: had been scribbling ruins that she had already learned from
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: the guidebook she had been given. And the thing is
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: is that she didn't realize that with these runes she'd
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: figured out an ability that she shares with her mother.
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: While she was distracted, she had placed her cup of
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: like coffee it was coffee or tea, whatever quarter it was,
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: it was a coffee mug. She had placed it on
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: top of her sketchbook while she was distracted, and when
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: she looks back, she realizes that her coffee mug has
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: gone completely two d yeah. And when she looked at
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: carefully examining it, she reaches down and she manages to
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: pull coffee cup out of its out of her sketchbook,
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: and she realizes that she discovered her little talent of
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: being able to hide objects on paper using rooms, and
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: dawns on her. Her mother could do this, probably could
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: do the same thing, and she and she realizes she
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: thinks she knows where the Mortal cup is hidden.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: I think I know where that cup's hidden. Girl, Let's
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: go talk.
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: Let's go back to that, to that tarot deck that
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: that warlock has or the Madame Dorothy.
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: Sure, yeah, Madame Dorothy is more of a just a medium.
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: She's not really she doesn't have any real.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: Her mother was a Warlow, but she's a practitioner.
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: Yeah yep. So she and the shadow Hunter's head back
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: to the back to her apartment and they visit Madame Dorothy.
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: They convinced her to give to let her look at
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: the tarot deck and after shifting through it, she finds
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: the I believe it was the Ace of Cups or something.
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: Like yeah, I think it was the Ace of Cups.
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: And pay it onto. The cup was an exact replica,
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: full down, all the way down to the detail of
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: the Mortal Cup. Now the now the shadow Hunters they
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: saw they had seen this one, this particular cup before,
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: they had seen this card before, and when they saw
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: it they were like, huh, that looks like the Mortal Cup.
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: The likeness is uncanny, and the players like, yeah, it
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: is and she reaches in pulls out the actual Mortal Cup.
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: So they have the Mortal Cup and I'm just like, oh, like,
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: oh cool, we have the cup. Now, oh ship, we
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: have the cup, and then everything and then every and
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: then everything that. Of course, you know, they found they
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: found the missing artifact that could help them find her mother,
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: and of course, right when they find it, that's when
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: the ship hits the fan.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: Yeah, of course.
- 1:12:49Speaker 3: So unfortunately for Madam Dorothy, Valentine had already gotten to
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: her and unable to find the Mortal Cup. He sets it.
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: He sets bit of a trap for anybody who may
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: be coming to look for the cup, because he believed
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: that Dorothy, while she doesn't know where the cup is,
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: somebody who does know may come back and speak with her.
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: So what he had done was he had summoned a
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: greater demon to hide, to lie in wait. And this
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: great this particular greater demon, was a very nasty one
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: by the name of Abdon. For those of you who
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: follow Christian mythology, you'll know that Abdon was a isn't
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: depending on which version, depending on like which mythology you
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: lean more towards. In some iterations, the mythology states that
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: he is a demon, and others they say that he's
- 1:13:49Speaker 3: actually an angel. Yeah, in any case, And the Christian mythology,
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: demons are just fallen angels, yeah, more or less, so
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: either way, it is interchangeable. But Abadawn in Christian mythology
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: is the demon of the Abyss, and during the apocalypse
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: he's supposed to raise out a rise of from the
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: pit and you know, the pit, and lead an army
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: of locusts and things like that that will like you know,
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: terrorize the earth and blah blah.
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: Blah, stand by the hands of God himself. Mm hmm, yeah, yep.
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: And so the thing is is that he had possessed
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: and puppeted Madame Dorothy's body, and because of this, well,
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: he uses her to open a doorway. Now, for some reason,
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: in Madame Dorothy's shop, she had access to a special
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: kind of portal that typically just lets her travel anywhere
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: she wants to go. Do you just think of it
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: and it'll go. It'll just take her there. But the
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: thing is that it could also be used by demons
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: to open a portal into their dimensions, and Abadon uses
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: it to open and uses her to open a portal
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: to his dimension, and he physically starts to cross over,
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: and the shadow Hunters and Clary are freaking out because
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: like it's a freaking graded demon and it attacks them.
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: They defend themselves, and the thing is they're not really
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: doing so well, and but just as when they just
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: when it seems all is lost, Simon, who I guess
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: decides to pull his head out of his ass and
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: come search for Clary, shows up. And the thing is
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: Simon himself had taken archery lessons and during the fight
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: I guess Alec, who is the archer of the group,
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: dropped his bow and arrow dropped his bow in his quiver,
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: and Simon had managed to show up. He grabs the
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: bow and he shoots a hole through the skylight windows,
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: allowing more sunlight to show through. Sunlight hits Abadon, and well,
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: the thing is, demons don't do so well in sunlight,
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: so Abdon gets his ah, his hold on this reality,
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: like his ability, his hold on being able to appear
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: in our reality, gets disrupted, and he basically gets vanished
- 1:16:20Speaker 3: back to his They managed to close the portal and escape,
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: so cool. They just had a very close They just
- 1:16:32Speaker 3: had a very close encounter with a very dangerous greater demon.
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: But now that they have the cup, they know that
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: they can find They're one step closer to finding They're
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: one step closer to finding Clari's mother. They bring the
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: cup back to the Institute, and it is there that
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: Hodge reveals that he is not as reformed as most
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: people would have thought. The thing is, though I will
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: give Hodge this, he did not want. He did not
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: want to rejoin the circle. But what he does end
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: up doing. What he does end up doing is he
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: summons Valentine to the Institute. He knocks out Chase, he
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: knocks out Jase and the other the Lightwoods, and while
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: Claire is distracted, he hands over the Mortal Cup. And
- 1:17:34Speaker 3: he gives the Mortal Cup to Valentine Valentine gives owns
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: up to his end of the bargain and breaks the
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: spell that was placed over Hodge containing him in the institute.
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: Now Hodge is free to leave whenever he wants. Valentine
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: takes the cup and an unconscious Jase and and flees
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: through a portal that was opened into the institut. Uh.
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: Clary tries to pursue Hodge, but the thing is Hodge
- 1:18:10Speaker 3: is a fully trained shadow hunter, so she's literally no
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: match for this guy. So he does attack her. She
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: does manage to follow him outside of the institute, but
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: he confronts her in an alleyway not far from the
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: institute and uh before but before he can do anything
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: to hurt her. H Yeah, I'm losing my train of thought.
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: Clari's Clari's family friend Luke shows up and uh attack
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: and defends her from Hodge. The thing is Luke shows
- 1:18:44Speaker 3: up in his furry form, because, as it turns out,
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: Luke is a werewolf.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: Of course he is, and he's not Luke. Sorry, rough guy,
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: mind continue?
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: Sorry?
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: No, honestly, like, no, he's not that's my thought.
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: No.
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: See, Luke is a he was once a shadow hunter,
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: and he used to be Valentine's best friend. In fact,
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: he was also a part of the circle. The thing is, though,
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: because of Valentine's hardcore anti downworld or belief, when Luke
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: was infected by like lycanthropy, Valentine basically just turns his
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: back on Luke, and at one point he even uh
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: traummea uh fuck, I'm like for I'm forgetting all the
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: of the woke terms here. What do people say about uh,
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: you know, like when when it comes to trigger warning,
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: there you go, there you go, trigger warning. At one
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: point trigger warning, Valentine even tells Luke to just kill
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: himself because he'd been turned into a werewolf. Instead of
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: doing that, Luke just ends up leaving it and joining
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: a werewolf pack. But then later on he learns of
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: the uprising and learns that Clarie's mom, Jocelyn, who was
- 1:20:07Speaker 3: also who was his best friend growing up, h had
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: fled from Idris, so he decides to track her down.
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: He eventually finds her a few years later, and uh
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: and also as when he's introduced to a young Clary
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: and since then he'd been he's stuck close ah loop
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: in this. In a short period of time, he had
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: managed to take over the one of the werewolf packs
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: in New York and basically became the alpha of the pack.
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: With this alpha, with this pack, they they are able
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: to track down Valentine's location and it's there she not
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: only finds her unconscious mother, her mother, so her mother.
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: The way she finds her mother is in an unconscious state.
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: She's chained to a bed and for some reason, no
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: matter what Clari tries to do, she won't wake up. Uh.
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: That's when she also encounters Valentine, who reveals that Jocelyn
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: had taken some sort of potion that put her into
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: a deep sleep. So you know beauty, so you know,
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: sleeping beauty kind of deep sleep. And and no, true
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: love's kiss will not wake her up, Oh no, nope.
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: But it's also there that Clarie finds that Jace is there,
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: but he's not being he's not being restrained or held
- 1:21:45Speaker 3: prisoner like her mother like she is, or her mother
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: is Valentine revealed. Jace reveals that Valentine is actually his
- 1:21:53Speaker 3: supposed dead father. Wow mm hmm, yep. So Valentine does
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: confirm that Jason is his son, which also confirms that
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: Jason Clary are siblings.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: Siblings oh it got weird.
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: Well, they they probably didn't know.
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: They know, they didn't know that. I mean at this point,
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: but before the incident at Pandemonium, they had never met
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: each other before.
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: It's fair.
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: Yeah, so that kind of kills any future thoughts of
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: romanticisms between the two of them.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: He sure does.
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: The thing is is that Valentine realizes that his location
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: being compromised and his and his followers are being overwhelmed
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: by Luke's werewolves. He decides to vacate his hideout, so
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: he uses a special portal to and opens a gateway
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: into Idris. So Valentine flees through the portal into Idris.
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: And the thing is is that the portal actually opened
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: itself into the countryside, just outside of the banner that
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: Jase had grew up in. And he tries to convince
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: Jace to return to Idris with him. But the thing
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: is now that Jace knows who Valentine really is. You know,
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: he's very conflicted and torn because you know, he loves
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: his dad, all right. His dad wasn't a terrible well,
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: growing up, his dad wasn't a terrible person. He was
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: a decent father at the very least. Yeah, if not
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: a little harsh, but still Jace refuses and Valentine steps
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: to the portal and smash it and destroys it behind
- 1:23:46Speaker 3: him because this portal was like a special like permanent portal,
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: but Valentine destroys it completely concealing it. So now this
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: is pretty much where the story comes to an end.
- 1:23:59Speaker 3: They managed, they managed to take Claire, Clarie's mom. They
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: get Clarie's mom out of the out of Valentine's hideout,
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: and she is She is taken to hospital care where
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: she's placed and put under observation. But still no matter
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: what she doesn't she does not wake up, and now
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: are two star cross lovers are left to deal with
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: the fact that they now realize they can't be together
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: because they had begun to develop romantic feelings for each other,
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: but now that they know that they're actually brothers, brothers
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: and sister and ain't gonna go anywhere. Yeah, ain't going going,
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: so for the time being, they're left to sort out
- 1:24:54Speaker 3: their own emotions. The institute is in disarray because the leader,
- 1:25:00Speaker 3: the head of the institute, basically betrayed everyone and fled
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: now been confirmed and is planning on building up Immortal Cup.
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: So this is where the book ends. Uh, you know,
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: this story wasn't very long. None of the books are
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: very long. They're being young adult youth novels. They're not
- 1:25:27Speaker 3: very young, they're not very long. Let me see here,
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: how long was this book? That is the wrong that
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: is the wrong app sir?
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: Mhmm.
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: You know if I if I had all of my
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: ebooks on physical copies, I would have shelves, shelves upon shelves.
- 1:25:57Speaker 6: Sam trying to pull the book.
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: Let's see here, of course, Oh yeah, that's right. I
- 1:26:28Speaker 3: didn't have this book downloaded on my phone, bitch. Oh,
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: so like the ebook edition was like, uh, the e
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: book edition on iTunes is four hundred and ninety two
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: pages long. So it's pretty it's a good it's a
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: decent read, but it's very it's not that long. So
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: this so so of course, so of course this is
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: where the book ends. City of Bones, I can definitely say,
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: is just more like pretty much with any pilot with
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: any pilot book, it's just the it's sets the foundation,
- 1:27:15Speaker 3: the corner it's the it sets the cornerstone for how
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: the rest of the series will be played out, how
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: the story will be built on. Uh, sins, the basic
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: ideas everything. So from this u So after the City
- 1:27:30Speaker 3: of Bones, the next book in the series is called
- 1:27:33Speaker 3: City of Ashes, So it's gonna be it's definitely gonna
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: be dramatic, heroic, bold, There's gonna be a lot, there's
- 1:27:45Speaker 3: gonna be a lot of teenage auncs because we you know,
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: two of the main characters are gonna be pining over
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: each other, but they can't be with each other because
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: you know, they're related. Picky yep. So that was one
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: of the biggest complaints about the story was because the romance.
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: The romance in this story is was because the two
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: main characters were thought to be siblings and they still
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: had they didn't really do much to like staunch their
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: romantic feelings for each other. Now I'm not saying they
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: act on it, but still all the pining, the way
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: they pined after each other, it was kind of gross
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: because everyone's is working under the assumption that they're related.
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: You know, yet when you follow the story, Yeah, to
- 1:28:41Speaker 3: go up, you have to go. When you're following the story,
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: you've reading this story for the first time, You're not
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: gonna this. You have to go based off of what
- 1:28:49Speaker 3: you know already and know what you know now is
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: the fact that they are siblings. And it's like now
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: everybody's uncomfortable, and which I gotta say is a good job.
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: Good job on Cassandra Claif for making everybody uncomfortable for
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: the next two books. Yeah, but anyway, thank you guys
- 1:29:09Speaker 3: for tuning in. This was uh, this was book one
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: of the Mortal Instruments, City of Bones. Next week we
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: are going to be reviewing book two of the Mortal Instruments,
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: The City of Ashley. So until next time, bye,
