- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Yukon Football Coaches Show. Husky's travel
- 0:03Speaker 1: to Florida take on Florida Atlantic. We'll talk about them
- 0:06Speaker 1: in a few moments. They're four and six on the
- 0:07Speaker 1: year after starting two and one. They score a bundle
- 0:10Speaker 1: of points, so it's going to be a challenge. Jim.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Let's talk about your offense because you've got a few
- 0:15Speaker 1: guys here who are vying for some national awards which
- 0:19Speaker 1: are very prestigious. I'm going to go to Skyler belfor
- 0:22Speaker 1: a semifinalists right now in the Bleetnikoff Award category. He's
- 0:26Speaker 1: got ninety three catches. And I'm a little old school
- 0:30Speaker 1: on this, but I was a Fred Berletnikoff fan. If
- 0:33Speaker 1: you can believe that, going wait, I right with the
- 0:36Speaker 1: cutoff sleeves and you know, ten degree weather and the
- 0:40Speaker 1: guy that looked like he what is he doing on
- 0:42Speaker 1: a football field making every catch under the sun? Anyway,
- 0:46Speaker 1: if you're considered a semi finalist in a category that's
- 0:49Speaker 1: named after Fred Blittnikoff, that's pretty big.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's a tremendous honor I believe for Skyler,
- 0:59Speaker 2: I think it's a reflection of him as a player.
- 1:02Speaker 2: As a person, as a worker, as a guy that's committed.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I think it's a reflection of Kashif Moore, whos his coach,
- 1:09Speaker 2: and the other guys in that room that you know,
- 1:11Speaker 2: push him every day, and I'm talking about his teammates.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I think it's a great reflection on our offensive line
- 1:18Speaker 2: and tight ends and backs given Joe the time that
- 1:21Speaker 2: he that he needs to find Skyler. And then it's
- 1:24Speaker 2: a reflection on Joe, you know, and the trust camaraderie
- 1:27Speaker 2: that he's built up with Skyler over these last couple
- 1:29Speaker 2: of years. So that's a great one to see. I
- 1:34Speaker 2: think I can tell you as long as we don't
- 1:36Speaker 2: get it out and tweet it out. But Chris Freeman,
- 1:39Speaker 2: I believe, is now a semifinalist for the lou Grose Award,
- 1:42Speaker 2: which goes to the top kicker in the country as well.
- 1:44Speaker 2: So and there's some others.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I know lou Grows, by the way, the straight
- 1:49Speaker 1: ahead kicker for the Cleveland Browns. For those of us
- 1:52Speaker 1: listening who don't know who lou Gros is, he was
- 1:56Speaker 1: the guy that had the flat toe right for the shoe.
- 1:59Speaker 2: On his kay all used to kind of have that right.
- 2:01Speaker 2: The old flat, the squared off till they were straight
- 2:06Speaker 2: on kickers. You don't see that anymore.
- 2:07Speaker 1: He was listening when I was growing up watching that stuff.
- 2:10Speaker 1: He was the scariest kicker because we always felt like,
- 2:13Speaker 1: as a giant fan, he's gonna kick a fifty yarder
- 2:16Speaker 1: and beat us. I can tell kind of guy. He was.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Skyler Bell at eight catches against the Air Force, got
- 2:23Speaker 1: one hundred and forty three and two years over two
- 2:26Speaker 1: thousand yards Figna Jo Fernano. You mentioned three thousand yards
- 2:30Speaker 1: of this season, and we talk about him almost every
- 2:33Speaker 1: week because statistically he has not had a real down day.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Credit the offensive line obviously and the backs that have
- 2:42Speaker 1: to block for him. But a quarterback, and you've seen
- 2:45Speaker 1: a lot of great ones, they have to have a
- 2:48Speaker 1: certain skill in that pocket, and he seems to have
- 2:51Speaker 1: it to be able to step up still, keep his
- 2:54Speaker 1: eyes down the field since where the receivers are going
- 2:57Speaker 1: to come open, and then deliver the ball. That's that's
- 3:00Speaker 1: the other thing to me which has been impressive about
- 3:02Speaker 1: Joe Finiano. He's able to deliver the ball quickly. I
- 3:05Speaker 1: mean when he sees the man breaking open, you got
- 3:07Speaker 1: to hit him and you got to be accurate, and
- 3:09Speaker 1: he's been doing that.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Yeah, Joe. You know, I was lucky to be around
- 3:15Speaker 2: some really good quarterback coaches in my career growing up,
- 3:19Speaker 2: and you know, Bill Walsh obviously was the most well
- 3:23Speaker 2: known of all those guys, and Mike Holmgren and Don
- 3:25Speaker 2: Corriel and I mean some pretty darn good ones. And
- 3:31Speaker 2: Coach Walsh used to always say the number one attribute
- 3:33Speaker 2: you're looking for in a quarterback is a decision maker
- 3:36Speaker 2: and how he processes. And Joe is shown to be
- 3:40Speaker 2: a really good decision maker, and that's both on and
- 3:42Speaker 2: off the field. You know, he's just a quality person.
- 3:45Speaker 2: He lives his life the right way. He does the
- 3:48Speaker 2: work necessary to be prepared to go out on Saturdays
- 3:51Speaker 2: and play his best game. He's consistent as can be,
- 3:55Speaker 2: and it shows up in the way he plays. You know,
- 3:58Speaker 2: his decision making is has been impeccable and he's got
- 4:03Speaker 2: to continue to do those things. But he's played himself
- 4:05Speaker 2: into a position where people are starting to take notice
- 4:07Speaker 2: of just how good he can be and how good
- 4:09Speaker 2: he's been.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a great it's been a great run for
- 4:13Speaker 1: him at ukont Cam Edwards hundred sixty five yards on
- 4:16Speaker 1: the weekend is fourth one hundred yard game. He went
- 4:18Speaker 1: over a thousand yards. He's fourteenth all time in Yukon history.
- 4:22Speaker 1: And there's been some good running backs at Yukon over
- 4:24Speaker 1: the years. Donald Brown comes to mind, who had a
- 4:26Speaker 1: great NFL career as well. Edwards with the one hundred and
- 4:31Speaker 1: sixty five. It was good to see him back, you know,
- 4:34Speaker 1: as a mainstay on the offense. He had great games
- 4:37Speaker 1: all year, but this one was particularly important.
- 4:41Speaker 2: I thought, I completely agree Mike. He just he's been
- 4:46Speaker 2: having a really good year, but it's been overshadowed a
- 4:49Speaker 2: little bit by you know, what Skyland and Joe have
- 4:52Speaker 2: done in the past game. And you know, he reached
- 4:55Speaker 2: a thousand yards rushing and I don't know how many
- 4:57Speaker 2: times that's been done at Yukon, And it doesn't really matter.
- 5:00Speaker 2: It only matters that Cam was able to get that
- 5:02Speaker 2: done this year once again, with the help of a
- 5:04Speaker 2: tremendous group of offensive linemen and tight ends and receivers
- 5:08Speaker 2: that are willing to go block down field. But to
- 5:11Speaker 2: see how far he's come since he first got here
- 5:16Speaker 2: out of Norwalk, Connecticut, playing dB to you a thousand
- 5:20Speaker 2: yard rusher and really kind of the toughness of this team.
- 5:26Speaker 2: A lot of it comes from him. Is really cool man.
- 5:30Speaker 2: It's really neat to be a part of that. I
- 5:32Speaker 2: love what he's doing.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Yeah, twenty two carries in the second half when the
- 5:36Speaker 1: game was certainly hanging in the balance, he ran for
- 5:39Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty as Yukon I was able to
- 5:41Speaker 1: beat Air Force. We're going to talk Fau when we
- 5:44Speaker 1: come back. Jimore with us. The Yukon Football Coaches Show
- 5:47Speaker 1: continues on liar Field
