- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the almost famous podcast with iHeartRadio.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hi, Bob Guinea, it's been a while.
- 0:07Speaker 3: I know I've missed you.
- 0:09Speaker 2: You've been everywhere, family stuff, derby, you know, all the
- 0:14Speaker 2: fun things. I want to hear all about it. But
- 0:17Speaker 2: we do have our guest in the waiting room.
- 0:20Speaker 3: I know.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I'm very excited, very excited. I was going to try
- 0:24Speaker 1: and put on my accent so that he feels comfortable.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I was gonna be like, he am night. But then
- 0:28Speaker 1: I thought that probably wouldn't work and I'd probably just
- 0:31Speaker 1: piss him off.
- 0:32Speaker 3: So I shouldn't try it.
- 0:33Speaker 1: But if I go to it at any point in
- 0:35Speaker 1: time in the conversation, it's just a nervous reflex, and
- 0:40Speaker 1: you know, make sure you correct me at any time.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Actually, I wonder how many times people do that to
- 0:46Speaker 2: people with accents, you know, throughout the day, if.
- 0:49Speaker 3: You know, because it's the first place I go.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I mean, I'll see my friends from Australia and I'll
- 0:54Speaker 1: be like, hello, shrimp on the barbie, and I don't
- 0:57Speaker 1: want my hands do this.
- 0:58Speaker 3: My arms go like this when I do. It just
- 1:00Speaker 3: makes zero sense. I don't know, kangaroo.
- 1:04Speaker 1: And now you know, and now you have our friend
- 1:05Speaker 1: who's coming in from London, and I'll be like, you
- 1:08Speaker 1: care for a spot and he's really what, I don't
- 1:11Speaker 1: even know why you're saying that.
- 1:13Speaker 2: What did they say? Look, look Dad, big.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Ben Big then Parliament, I can't get left.
- 1:22Speaker 3: We should throw out all of our jokes.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask him about I'm excited to talk about
- 1:26Speaker 1: Harry and Meghan with him so many.
- 1:30Speaker 2: I'm sure he wants to talk all about it.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Because you know, he knows these things. Matt knows, he.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Knows them, he knows, he knows them personally, he knows
- 1:37Speaker 1: everyone in England.
- 1:39Speaker 2: He's likening them in the castle for a while.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Yeah, Hi, Matt, Matt Grant, everybody, Matt Grant is joining us.
- 1:46Speaker 3: He's connecting to audio as we speak, so give him
- 1:48Speaker 3: a hot second.
- 1:49Speaker 4: Hey guys, Hey, how are you many? Good?
- 1:53Speaker 2: Good?
- 1:54Speaker 4: Nice to see you boy.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Pleasure you are.
- 1:58Speaker 2: You're being so efficient with your time and doing this
- 2:01Speaker 2: interview in a car. You're just like me.
- 2:05Speaker 4: I am.
- 2:06Speaker 5: I had to I had to take a friend to
- 2:08Speaker 5: the airport and the traffic the whole place was a
- 2:13Speaker 5: bit gridlocked, and there was a police car chase or.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Something going on. It was like Manhattan yesterday.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I was just gonna say, just like Harry and may.
- 2:24Speaker 3: See I told you that's just that's just like Harry.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Oh please please.
- 2:32Speaker 5: I thought Bob I liked you, But now I'm not
- 2:35Speaker 5: so sure as no time for either of those two.
- 2:44Speaker 2: Really, do you think it's because you are from England
- 2:48Speaker 2: and so you're even more like just annoyed or I.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Think I think I think probably it comes from the
- 2:59Speaker 5: fact that I think they were just both very disrespectful
- 3:02Speaker 5: to two very elderly people right at the end of
- 3:04Speaker 5: their lives. And you know that that Oprah Winfrey interview
- 3:09Speaker 5: was you know, they basically said that the royal family
- 3:11Speaker 5: were racist with no evidence, and and that was so
- 3:15Speaker 5: damaging and it was embarrassing for the country as well,
- 3:18Speaker 5: because you know, Britain is a progressive place. It's not
- 3:21Speaker 5: perfect by any means, and we've still got a long
- 3:24Speaker 5: way to go on these areas as the US has,
- 3:27Speaker 5: you know, but compared to a lot of countries in
- 3:30Speaker 5: the world, I think the UK and the US pretty
- 3:32Speaker 5: you know, at least trying to get there.
- 3:34Speaker 3: So yeah, anyway, I'm I'm with Matt on that one.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I have a bad taste in my mouth for those
- 3:40Speaker 1: two because I feel like it has been a lot
- 3:43Speaker 1: of like, you know, just you can say anything you
- 3:46Speaker 1: want these days, and everyone just assumes it's true.
- 3:48Speaker 3: And it's like the think about the royal.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Family is they're kind of like, well, you know, we're
- 3:52Speaker 1: not gonna we're not going to get in in the
- 3:54Speaker 1: in the in the mund with the pigs.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Right.
- 3:56Speaker 1: It's kind of like the mindset you have to say
- 3:58Speaker 1: that that's that's just a saying I'm not doing why
- 4:00Speaker 1: that I think that anyone's a pig. But I mean
- 4:02Speaker 1: I get it from the standpoint of you know, it
- 4:05Speaker 1: is true. You're absolutely right. There's been a lot of
- 4:07Speaker 1: dirty laundry out there and no validation of it, you know.
- 4:11Speaker 5: Yeah, And I wonder if I kind of step back now,
- 4:14Speaker 5: you know, as being the kind of the kind of
- 4:17Speaker 5: the Queen of us TV, I wonder, you know, if
- 4:23Speaker 5: that has if maybe there's been a bit of a
- 4:25Speaker 5: shift in change on how they do these things moving forwards,
- 4:27Speaker 5: because I think that didn't particularly reflect well on her either.
- 4:31Speaker 5: I don't know what you guys think. But anyway, with
- 4:35Speaker 5: regards to with regards to to you guys, how are
- 4:38Speaker 5: you both?
- 4:40Speaker 1: Thank you Matt. Thank you nice much change for us.
- 4:44Speaker 1: We appreciate it.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I actually don't have any taste in my mouth about them.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I really don't even follow it. So thanks for the little,
- 4:54Speaker 2: the little information gathering this morning. But we we really
- 4:58Speaker 2: are here to talk to you, like all about you
- 5:01Speaker 2: and life, how it's been after the Bachelor, even like
- 5:05Speaker 2: how you got into it. Can you tell us a
- 5:07Speaker 2: little bit about how you actually got on the show,
- 5:10Speaker 2: that whole process?
- 5:12Speaker 5: Yeah, sure, a Kain, and before I kick off on that, Trista,
- 5:16Speaker 5: congratulations on twenty years.
- 5:19Speaker 4: Of successful marriage. An incredible achievement.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 5:22Speaker 4: I know it's a while back, but it was this year, right, I.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Think twenty years will be in December?
- 5:28Speaker 5: Yeah, wow, thank you, thank you. Check me out my
- 5:31Speaker 5: Bachelor calendar.
- 5:33Speaker 2: You know, you know all the things.
- 5:37Speaker 5: So where do you want to start? So from the
- 5:39Speaker 5: get go? Right, so get go.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Just tell us how you got into the show. Were
- 5:43Speaker 2: you watching before? Did someone nominate you? How did you
- 5:47Speaker 2: get on the show?
- 5:48Speaker 4: No, so it didn't show in the UK.
- 5:50Speaker 5: So I'm working in finance in London and didn't know
- 5:55Speaker 5: anything about The Bachelor. I think I was twenty seven
- 5:59Speaker 5: and this rather attractive slightly few years older. But you know,
- 6:05Speaker 5: when you're when you're twenty eight, you know, five years
- 6:08Speaker 5: is is more like, you know, ten years.
- 6:10Speaker 4: When you're a bit further down the road. I don't know.
- 6:12Speaker 4: I'm digging a hole already. Anyway, can we just rewind that?
- 6:23Speaker 5: So very a very attractive American lady age is relevant,
- 6:29Speaker 5: came up to me and said, have you heard of
- 6:31Speaker 5: a show called The Bachelor? And I was like, no, no,
- 6:35Speaker 5: And then she said, it's this, this is this big
- 6:37Speaker 5: show in the US. And obviously I knew what a
- 6:40Speaker 5: bit like you guys would know what BBC is, I
- 6:42Speaker 5: knew what ABCC was, so I knew it was, you know,
- 6:46Speaker 5: I knew it was something big. And anyway, she gave
- 6:49Speaker 5: her card. Then I remember getting home that night, so
- 6:52Speaker 5: it was about kind of one am. I think it
- 6:54Speaker 5: was a Saturday night. We've been out with friends and
- 6:58Speaker 5: I'd had a few, a few pine you know.
- 7:00Speaker 4: A few pints, yeah, maybe five, Maybe I had a
- 7:05Speaker 4: good I was I was marry.
- 7:08Speaker 5: I was married, but still but not you know, not
- 7:11Speaker 5: to the point where I don't remember this.
- 7:13Speaker 4: This is all vivid.
- 7:14Speaker 5: So and I'm sitting there, you know, going on Google
- 7:17Speaker 5: in my apartment and I just went nowhere, you know,
- 7:21Speaker 5: because I'd never heard of the Bachelor, and I realized
- 7:24Speaker 5: that this this was, this was a big deal, this
- 7:26Speaker 5: was this was So I'm just getting on my phone,
- 7:30Speaker 5: just texting. I think we didn't have whatsappen back then, right,
- 7:32Speaker 5: So it was it was just SMS ing and my
- 7:34Speaker 5: friend's going, you wouldn't believe it, this this is And
- 7:38Speaker 5: and of course a lot of my friends didn't believe it.
- 7:40Speaker 4: They thought I was whinding them up.
- 7:41Speaker 5: A few of them, I think, you know, I've got
- 7:44Speaker 5: a few friends that had lived in the States are
- 7:46Speaker 5: kind of knew actually that it was a big deal.
- 7:49Speaker 4: So yeah, quite a few people didn't believe me.
- 7:51Speaker 5: So anyway, the next thing I know, I'm on a
- 7:52Speaker 5: flight out to LA to meet with I think Flices
- 7:58Speaker 5: first of all.
- 7:59Speaker 3: And what year was it.
- 8:01Speaker 4: It was two thousand and eight.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Yeah, Brooke cars in and all of them at that time,
- 8:06Speaker 3: I bet.
- 8:06Speaker 4: You, Yeah it was Brook. Yeah, yeah, it was Brooke.
- 8:11Speaker 5: And and I had archetypal British teeth at this point.
- 8:17Speaker 5: And I think the first thing they did was like, Matt,
- 8:20Speaker 5: we really like you much, Matt, Matt, we really like you,
- 8:25Speaker 5: but you're gonna.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Have to get your teeth done.
- 8:28Speaker 5: And I was like, if you pay for it, if
- 8:31Speaker 5: you pay for it's still let's still here.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Both field to this day, perfect construction. I bet you
- 8:38Speaker 1: went to doctor Dormann.
- 8:41Speaker 4: Oh yeah, oh Billy boy.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Billy Doan.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Yeah, did he do yours as well?
- 8:46Speaker 3: Well?
- 8:46Speaker 1: He he brought me in. I actually didn't meet him
- 8:50Speaker 1: until after the Bachelor. But it was funny because I
- 8:53Speaker 1: remember I was going to him as my dentist and
- 8:55Speaker 1: he would tell you. He's like, and this is before
- 8:57Speaker 1: you and I had met Matt, but he was like,
- 8:59Speaker 1: I used to did the best's teeth.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Who was just in here? And I'm like, oh, I'm
- 9:02Speaker 3: not kidding, you know.
- 9:03Speaker 1: And it was long after the Bachelor for me because
- 9:05Speaker 1: I was a bachelor in two thousand and three, So
- 9:08Speaker 1: but yeah, I thought it was It was really funny.
- 9:10Speaker 3: I remember the story.
- 9:12Speaker 4: That is good guy.
- 9:14Speaker 2: I wonder how many bachelors he's done or bachelorettes. He's
- 9:18Speaker 2: the he's the dentist to the to the Bachelor, to Bachelor.
- 9:21Speaker 5: Nation, Bacheloration beyond there. I remember Paul Abdoll was in
- 9:25Speaker 5: the in the waiting room when I'm saying, and you know,
- 9:29Speaker 5: it's a horrible, horrible, horrible procedure. So I was a
- 9:31Speaker 5: little nervous before and then I'm just like it was
- 9:34Speaker 5: just one of those many very cool, very funny slash
- 9:37Speaker 5: slightly surreal la moments.
- 9:39Speaker 4: You know.
- 9:39Speaker 5: I lived out there for yeah, for five years in total,
- 9:41Speaker 5: and some of the stories still blow my mind, you
- 9:45Speaker 5: know when I you know, just just fun stuff like that.
- 9:48Speaker 5: You just you know, you'll come up and someone will
- 9:51Speaker 5: say you see your real teeth or whatever, and then
- 9:53Speaker 5: you start telling them and then you realize you remember,
- 9:55Speaker 5: like I just did there with Bob, like I was
- 9:57Speaker 5: in the weighting room with Paul Abdell. You know, it's
- 10:00Speaker 5: you couldn't make it up, you know, It's just all
- 10:02Speaker 5: those fun little stories of well being at CEA for
- 10:05Speaker 5: a meeting and realizing I'm in a in a lift
- 10:09Speaker 5: with Tom Cruise, you know, who's about five foot about
- 10:13Speaker 5: five foot four, and there's me at six five.
- 10:16Speaker 3: You know, you're tired than I am, so that I
- 10:18Speaker 3: had to be quite at the moment.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Yeah, So fun stuff like that.
- 10:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I know, lots of lots of happy memories, lots
- 10:26Speaker 5: of happy memories, and you know, as you know, with
- 10:29Speaker 5: Bob saying to you know, just thinking of that two
- 10:31Speaker 5: thousand and three, I mean twenty years. Yeah, it's just
- 10:34Speaker 5: time flies, you know, it's two thousand and eight and
- 10:36Speaker 5: it's I don't know about you guys, if you had
- 10:39Speaker 5: that moment on the tenth year, if it kind of
- 10:41Speaker 5: hit you when ten years had been up, you know,
- 10:43Speaker 5: it was like that wow factor because that just went
- 10:45Speaker 5: so quick, and then who knows, I'm sure the next
- 10:49Speaker 5: ten were really quick as well for you as well.
- 10:51Speaker 3: So yeah, it's it's definitely gone by though, you're not kidding.
- 10:54Speaker 5: So that's how I got found, Yeah, a random a
- 10:57Speaker 5: random scout in London.
- 10:59Speaker 1: So they did you come in? They do to the
- 11:02Speaker 1: teeth thing. And then how soon after that are you filming?
- 11:05Speaker 1: I mean, is it pretty quickly after that that you're
- 11:07Speaker 1: already on set and going for it.
- 11:10Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:10Speaker 5: Yeah, it was of course, the visa issue was a
- 11:13Speaker 5: problem because I didn't have a US social because I
- 11:17Speaker 5: was you know, it wasn't like I was sort of
- 11:18Speaker 5: half American and could kind of hide it and really
- 11:21Speaker 5: secretly I had a social life. I was a complete foreigner,
- 11:24Speaker 5: So there was a little it was quite stressful because
- 11:27Speaker 5: it was rushed. I think within three months of me
- 11:31Speaker 5: being found, we were filming and so there was if
- 11:35Speaker 5: we do the mac Grand Bachelor checklist right, it was
- 11:38Speaker 5: teeth visa and then loosing weight.
- 11:44Speaker 2: The gym.
- 11:47Speaker 5: So I don't know which short it was. It was
- 11:50Speaker 5: teeth waight visa. I think probably the visa was the
- 11:53Speaker 5: most scary thing. You know, there's no VIP line in
- 11:57Speaker 5: that embassy is any now? I'm sure I'm sure the
- 12:01Speaker 5: real gps get people queuing up for them. But anyway,
- 12:03Speaker 5: it was, it was all good.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Were you concerned?
- 12:16Speaker 1: I remember when they asked me to be the Bachelor,
- 12:18Speaker 1: and even though it was so early on in the
- 12:20Speaker 1: in the show, but I remember being really nervous, like
- 12:23Speaker 1: you just said, of oh god, I hope I help
- 12:25Speaker 1: people even tune into this thing.
- 12:27Speaker 3: You know, were you were you feeling that kind of pressure?
- 12:30Speaker 5: Oh I had imposter syndrome all the way through it
- 12:33Speaker 5: and probably afterwards, to be honest with you, yeah, you know,
- 12:36Speaker 5: really I did feel like you know, there was there
- 12:40Speaker 5: was lots of you know, I was I was young.
- 12:42Speaker 5: I was twenty seven when I was doing all that,
- 12:45Speaker 5: and and you.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Know, I Trista.
- 12:49Speaker 5: I still wantestly think men, you know, are a bit
- 12:53Speaker 5: slower on the whole development, you know, building, maybe confident.
- 12:56Speaker 5: I don't want to stereotype because I've already put up
- 12:58Speaker 5: in it before. But but you know, I were young
- 13:01Speaker 5: twenty seven being made, being made to be an old
- 13:04Speaker 5: twenty seven, you know, in the way that I wasn't
- 13:07Speaker 5: really like some sort of global financier, you know, I was.
- 13:10Speaker 4: I had a decent job, but I wasn't.
- 13:12Speaker 5: I wasn't you know, like some you know, doing massive.
- 13:18Speaker 4: Deals with the Saudi oil and things like that. I
- 13:20Speaker 4: was so so yeah.
- 13:24Speaker 5: So there's this combination of kind of you know, pride
- 13:28Speaker 5: because I was proud to have being picked, excitement, especially
- 13:31Speaker 5: going to you know, a new country. Although I'd been
- 13:34Speaker 5: to the US quite a few times and had family
- 13:36Speaker 5: out out in the US, it was still a foreign country, right, right,
- 13:40Speaker 5: So there's this mixture of pride, excitement and in trepidation
- 13:43Speaker 5: and then.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Fear at times.
- 13:46Speaker 5: Oh yeah, but definitely definitely got a few imposter moments
- 13:50Speaker 5: where I was like, and I remember my mum, who
- 13:52Speaker 5: was very matter of fact. My mom was like, but
- 13:56Speaker 5: you're not You're not a global financier, And.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Mum, don't tell anyone this was.
- 14:04Speaker 5: When we were This was when we were filming. This
- 14:06Speaker 5: is when we were filming at the at that you know,
- 14:09Speaker 5: the fake home. I don't know if you guys, if
- 14:11Speaker 5: they really went back to your houses or if they
- 14:13Speaker 5: went to we.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Had a fake in London.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Okay, oh interesting, it was just your fake house, but
- 14:21Speaker 2: you lived somewhere else.
- 14:22Speaker 5: Yeah, And they rented this place for a huge amount
- 14:24Speaker 5: of money. And my six foot five, two hundred and
- 14:28Speaker 5: sixty pounds as soon as it sat down on a
- 14:31Speaker 5: two hundred and fifty year old chair, antique broke it.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Oh.
- 14:35Speaker 5: So that was the first and the owner, the owners
- 14:39Speaker 5: in the background behind the door going what was that?
- 14:44Speaker 5: This is a good start, and then yes, so shortly
- 14:49Speaker 5: after that was mum basically off camera but with all
- 14:52Speaker 5: the sound equipment on going. But you're not a global financier,
- 14:56Speaker 5: you're not a multimillionaire, Matthew, some of.
- 15:01Speaker 2: My mom to bring you down to the to earth.
- 15:04Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, way to go.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Thanks, How are you?
- 15:08Speaker 4: How are your home? How are your home? Time?
- 15:11Speaker 5: Because in a way it was easier for me because
- 15:12Speaker 5: it was because it was a fake house. I could yeah,
- 15:16Speaker 5: you know, I literally could break the furniture because it
- 15:18Speaker 5: didn't matter. But how was it actually letting letting these
- 15:24Speaker 5: people into your into your kind of most intimate sphere.
- 15:29Speaker 4: How was that?
- 15:31Speaker 2: Well, it wasn't our homes, Like so the house that
- 15:34Speaker 2: we the both of us, the houses that we used
- 15:37Speaker 2: for the show, obviously they were just rented same by production.
- 15:42Speaker 2: So even though I was living there, it definitely was
- 15:45Speaker 2: not my home, Like it was my home base for
- 15:49Speaker 2: the show, but not anything that I really felt like
- 15:53Speaker 2: I would that people were invading, if you will, I
- 15:56Speaker 2: kind of felt like I was invading it, uh, you know,
- 15:59Speaker 2: kind of to turn the two, because it wasn't my home.
- 16:01Speaker 2: I was sleeping in someone someone else's bed, Like we
- 16:04Speaker 2: were taking over this entire house, and I think the
- 16:08Speaker 2: people actually just let us use it. They got a
- 16:11Speaker 2: lot of money for it, and then we were out.
- 16:13Speaker 2: So yeah, that's really interesting that you say that. You
- 16:17Speaker 2: think like maybe it felt like we were being invaded,
- 16:20Speaker 2: But I didn't feel like that, did you, Bob?
- 16:22Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, you know, the when we did, like the
- 16:25Speaker 1: package that they put together right for the Bachelorette and everything,
- 16:29Speaker 1: and then when they do like, yeah, the b roll
- 16:31Speaker 1: of here's why we chose this guy, you know, they
- 16:33Speaker 1: did come to they came to my house for that
- 16:35Speaker 1: to do that, and and that was kind of cool.
- 16:37Speaker 1: But I mean, I, you know, I much like Matt,
- 16:40Speaker 1: I was not a global financia, so I was, you know,
- 16:44Speaker 1: I was like this guy who just had a cool
- 16:46Speaker 1: house and lived by myself.
- 16:48Speaker 3: So I got, you know, just I don't know, it
- 16:49Speaker 3: was crazy.
- 16:50Speaker 1: And then they did come to my family's lake house
- 16:53Speaker 1: when we did the uh, when we did the like
- 16:55Speaker 1: the at home dates. But yeah, when we actually filmed
- 16:57Speaker 1: the show itself, I was in a mens that that
- 17:01Speaker 1: would be a mansion at best.
- 17:04Speaker 3: I think it was a production house.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I'd lay in bed at night and I'd look up
- 17:08Speaker 1: and there's like scaffolding and lights, and I'm just like, yeah,
- 17:12Speaker 1: there's no way that there's not cameras. Like in my mind,
- 17:14Speaker 1: I was constantly thinking, yeah, you know. In fact, I
- 17:17Speaker 1: don't know if you remember Trista, but Andrew Firestone has
- 17:19Speaker 1: gone on record with a with a really funny thing
- 17:21Speaker 1: where he would go sleep in the closet of them
- 17:24Speaker 1: of the house that he because he and I had
- 17:26Speaker 1: the same house that we stayed in, because he was
- 17:28Speaker 1: so stressed out.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Because it just he couldn't sleep in the place. You know.
- 17:31Speaker 4: He was literally coming out close it.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Yeah, he really was.
- 17:34Speaker 1: He said, his mattress and in the closet with his
- 17:37Speaker 1: clothes are all there, and he would just lay down
- 17:39Speaker 1: in there because it was like the other room was
- 17:41Speaker 1: just too wide open and just too many, you know.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I I finally got to the point in that in
- 17:46Speaker 1: that house. I think I told you this, Trista, but
- 17:48Speaker 1: I went everywhere. I went underneath. They had like a
- 17:52Speaker 1: kind of like a basement. I found the production place
- 17:54Speaker 1: because they would leave me alone there for hours. Vision really, Oh,
- 17:57Speaker 1: I got in love that, yeah, because I was like,
- 17:59Speaker 1: I got to discover what's going on around here, because
- 18:01Speaker 1: this place is stressing me out.
- 18:02Speaker 4: That was off limits that place, you know, I saw
- 18:06Speaker 4: the door just opened.
- 18:07Speaker 1: It was like slap shop.
- 18:12Speaker 5: These people just like tapping away your monitors and goods.
- 18:17Speaker 3: What are they doing?
- 18:18Speaker 4: It was weird to the Jim Carrey movie.
- 18:21Speaker 3: Right, Yeah.
- 18:23Speaker 4: Yeah, closest to the treatment show.
- 18:24Speaker 1: We got, oh my gosh, so so Matt you're you're
- 18:28Speaker 1: you're the Bachelor now and you got the limos pulling up.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I mean, had you had much experience with getting to
- 18:36Speaker 1: know American women?
- 18:37Speaker 3: At that point or was this the first.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Time that you just and what was it like, Like
- 18:41Speaker 1: was there a difference between the you know, the women
- 18:44Speaker 1: that you had dated uh in in London or the
- 18:46Speaker 1: women that you're meeting that night on the show.
- 18:51Speaker 4: I think I think that.
- 18:54Speaker 5: In retrospect, to answer your first question, No, I hadn't
- 18:58Speaker 5: really dated any America girls before this show. I think
- 19:04Speaker 5: the first thing that was really very striking was just
- 19:06Speaker 5: how beautiful these these these women were. You know, when
- 19:09Speaker 5: when each lady came up and you know, I don't
- 19:15Speaker 5: want to say that British women are less beautiful than
- 19:17Speaker 5: American or whatever, but but they're different and uh and
- 19:23Speaker 5: and so that that was that was something. And then
- 19:26Speaker 5: obviously the accents and.
- 19:29Speaker 4: But yeah, I know it was I mean it was.
- 19:32Speaker 5: It all happened so quickly, Bob, the whole, the whole,
- 19:35Speaker 5: that whole experience. You know, before you know it, you know,
- 19:39Speaker 5: you're on you know the fancy sweet stage. You know
- 19:42Speaker 5: you're you're right at the end of the filming element,
- 19:45Speaker 5: and you just think, wow, that's just gone. So that
- 19:47Speaker 5: that time went so quickly, right, But yeah, no, so
- 19:51Speaker 5: so I hadn't dated any American women before and then
- 19:54Speaker 5: when I did start to on that show, I liked
- 19:56Speaker 5: it very much.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Let's just leave it at that. Oh, I love the
- 20:04Speaker 2: fact that you called it a fancy sweet, not a
- 20:07Speaker 2: fantasy suite, A fancy sweet. Is that what you said?
- 20:11Speaker 4: That sounds a bit like what's his name, the Mike
- 20:15Speaker 4: Meyer's character?
- 20:17Speaker 3: Oh yeah, oh yeah, Mike.
- 20:20Speaker 4: Anyway, you know who I mean. I'm showing my age,
- 20:23Speaker 4: But yes, I.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Love let's call it.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Let's call it the fantasy fancy sweet.
- 20:30Speaker 1: That's actually a nicer way to think of it.
- 20:33Speaker 2: It is amazing. Okay. I would love to hear about
- 20:36Speaker 2: the engagement. We know that you were engaged to Shane.
- 20:40Speaker 2: It's Shane, right.
- 20:41Speaker 3: Not just sh Shane, Okay.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Shane Shane Lamas. Yeah, so I would love to hear
- 20:49Speaker 2: kind of what happened with you guys. You know, obviously
- 20:52Speaker 2: you're caught up in the moment, not necessarily that it's
- 20:54Speaker 2: not real. You know, obviously, I feel like everything is real,
- 20:58Speaker 2: Like your emotions are all on the show, is what
- 21:00Speaker 2: I tell everyone. It's not. Your emotions are real. So
- 21:04Speaker 2: you're kind of caught up in it and you're feeling
- 21:06Speaker 2: all the feels and you get engaged and then tell
- 21:09Speaker 2: us kind of what happened afterwards.
- 21:12Speaker 5: I still to this day don't really know what happened there.
- 21:18Speaker 5: I would say I was. I think that maybe coming
- 21:24Speaker 5: from a foreign country, maybe going through all the pressure
- 21:28Speaker 5: that we've all spoken about, you know, a bit of
- 21:30Speaker 5: the imposter stuff. Can I do this the fear, the fun,
- 21:34Speaker 5: but also doing it in a foreign country without your
- 21:37Speaker 5: support mechanism around you, with a time zone that made
- 21:39Speaker 5: it harder to communicate than your loved ones.
- 21:42Speaker 4: The crew were great, they really were. I made some
- 21:45Speaker 4: good friends, but yeah, there were times when, especially.
- 21:49Speaker 5: Towards the end of filming, where I really did feel
- 21:51Speaker 5: on my own and I didn't make the best decisions.
- 21:55Speaker 5: But also at that age as well, you know, as
- 21:57Speaker 5: I said earlier, I really feel looking back that I
- 21:59Speaker 5: was a young twenty seven.
- 22:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and you can only know that from hindsight, you know.
- 22:06Speaker 2: I feel like in the moment, you feel like, oh, yeah,
- 22:09Speaker 2: I'm mature.
- 22:10Speaker 3: I'm ready, I got this question.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, But I think hindsight shows you you know
- 22:15Speaker 2: a lot more than we know in the moment.
- 22:17Speaker 5: So so yeah, it didn't really last very long afterwards
- 22:20Speaker 5: with Shane because it just wasn't really there in the
- 22:22Speaker 5: first place. And you know, I look back, you know,
- 22:29Speaker 5: all these years later, and you know, I don't I
- 22:31Speaker 5: don't think I don't regret anything in life. But yeah,
- 22:35Speaker 5: it was you know, it was challenging towards the end,
- 22:37Speaker 5: but but yet just a great, overall, great experience.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Oh that's great. Yeah, I always look back at it
- 22:43Speaker 3: the same way.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I didn't end in an engagement or you know, ultimately
- 22:47Speaker 1: marriage or anything of that night nature either. But I
- 22:50Speaker 1: was saying to Trista when we kind of lost the
- 22:52Speaker 1: connection with you for a minute. I remember watching your
- 22:56Speaker 1: season and I primarily watched the tail end of it
- 22:59Speaker 1: and thinking that, you know, you just came off as
- 23:01Speaker 1: such a nice guy like you just came off with
- 23:03Speaker 1: as this guy that was you know, it was almost
- 23:06Speaker 1: like a fish out of water because you were from
- 23:08Speaker 1: another country and you were, you know, kind of inundated
- 23:10Speaker 1: with all this stuff, you know, all this American stuff
- 23:14Speaker 1: being thrown at you so much, and but you always
- 23:16Speaker 1: handled it, I thought, very gracefully. And I don't know
- 23:19Speaker 1: if you remember this, but we ran into each other
- 23:21Speaker 1: and Marina del Rey one day, both walking our dogs,
- 23:25Speaker 1: and yeah, I was and I remember I was like, hey,
- 23:29Speaker 1: you're the Bachelor, You're Matt Grant, and you're like, yeah,
- 23:31Speaker 1: how are I?
- 23:31Speaker 3: And like, you don't know me.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I like, but I was the Bacheler once too, and
- 23:35Speaker 1: I remember talking to you that day and ever since that,
- 23:37Speaker 1: I've always told everybody that, you know, I just thought
- 23:40Speaker 1: you were such a humble and nice guy. Especially you
- 23:43Speaker 1: were very h I mean, I don't think you had
- 23:45Speaker 1: been too far removed from the Bachelor at that point,
- 23:47Speaker 1: maybe a year or two when we crossed paths, and
- 23:50Speaker 1: I thought, you know, you just seem like such a
- 23:51Speaker 1: nice guy and go through an experience like that internationally,
- 23:56Speaker 1: I can only imagine how it might have messed with you.
- 23:58Speaker 4: You know, yeah, it was.
- 24:00Speaker 5: It was humbling afterwards as well, because I didn't have
- 24:03Speaker 5: you know, I wanted to capitalize from a selfish point
- 24:05Speaker 5: of view, I wanted to capitalize financially on on the
- 24:11Speaker 5: on this you know, magnificent opportunity given to me. And
- 24:18Speaker 5: I didn't have a visa so you know, work visa,
- 24:21Speaker 5: so I had to go and do that. And you know,
- 24:23Speaker 5: there were many times when it was, you know, it
- 24:25Speaker 5: was it was challenging to get that visa, and eventually
- 24:28Speaker 5: I you know, I wrote a show and sold it
- 24:30Speaker 5: to Warner Brothers.
- 24:31Speaker 4: And I'm really proud of.
- 24:32Speaker 5: How I dealt with that on my own out there,
- 24:35Speaker 5: just networking, and you know, and and and finally people going, look,
- 24:38Speaker 5: I've got a show, idea, let's make the show. And
- 24:40Speaker 5: you know, getting that contract from Warner Brothers, from from Walper,
- 24:44Speaker 5: it was really cool.
- 24:45Speaker 2: What was the show?
- 24:46Speaker 4: It was called Pimp My Bride.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Pimps tell us about it please.
- 24:55Speaker 4: It never got made.
- 24:56Speaker 5: It never got made obviously, but it got me a contract,
- 24:58Speaker 5: right and got me my own one. So no, I
- 25:03Speaker 5: have such fond memories of my time in the US.
- 25:06Speaker 5: And it was the one, you know, the the the
- 25:09Speaker 5: actors visa that I had for foreigners aliens of extraordinary talent.
- 25:14Speaker 3: Oh nice.
- 25:18Speaker 4: It was.
- 25:19Speaker 5: It was coming up for a mule and I thought, hey,
- 25:21Speaker 5: you know, I just made a bud like TV commercial,
- 25:25Speaker 5: which was kind of it was either going to go
- 25:27Speaker 5: for the Super Bowl or or what it was. You know,
- 25:29Speaker 5: they make two commercials Budweiser for each Super Bowl and
- 25:32Speaker 5: then they pick at the last minute which one was
- 25:34Speaker 5: going to be. So it was it was a high
- 25:36Speaker 5: I played kind of this food chef guy, you know,
- 25:39Speaker 5: this ponty British kind of Hello. My name is Nigel,
- 25:42Speaker 5: chef dude on this TV commercial anyway, paid out, paid
- 25:46Speaker 5: out a chunk of money, and I bought this old
- 25:49Speaker 5: jag and anyway, and I just I was drumming down
- 25:54Speaker 5: in Santa Monica. Do you guys know Montana Avenue in
- 25:57Speaker 5: Santa Monica, of course from my my favorite right just
- 26:01Speaker 5: coming out of that popped into the city bank and
- 26:04Speaker 5: I was just driving down and you've got the Pacific
- 26:06Speaker 5: ahead of you in the palm trees either side. It's
- 26:08Speaker 5: kind of that archetypal Californian sunset, right, yeah. And I'm sure,
- 26:12Speaker 5: I'm sure the listeners can kind of picture it. And
- 26:15Speaker 5: I think maybe you can just maybe see a little
- 26:17Speaker 5: bit of Kathleen in the background. I don't know, but
- 26:19Speaker 5: I just looked in the mirror and I just went,
- 26:21Speaker 5: you lucky.
- 26:22Speaker 4: Get you.
- 26:23Speaker 5: You know, you've had five amazing years, and I thought,
- 26:28Speaker 5: you know, and I just went, it's never going to
- 26:29Speaker 5: get better than.
- 26:30Speaker 3: This, yeah, yeah, And it has.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it has, just just a different chapter. Right,
- 26:35Speaker 4: that was the end.
- 26:36Speaker 5: That was the end of That was the end of
- 26:38Speaker 5: that chapter. And i'd you know, I'd gone and got
- 26:41Speaker 5: that visa on my own. I'd gone and sort of
- 26:44Speaker 5: got stable on my own in California, found work from
- 26:47Speaker 5: somewhere to live, built a friendship circle, and had you know,
- 26:52Speaker 5: those great years, and so I didn't want to leave,
- 26:55Speaker 5: but I kind of felt like I wanted to leave
- 26:58Speaker 5: l R l A on a on a high, because
- 27:00Speaker 5: so many people leave it on a loane.
- 27:03Speaker 3: True, you are speaking the truth right there. I mean
- 27:06Speaker 3: that you went out on your own terms.
- 27:08Speaker 4: You know.
- 27:08Speaker 1: That's that's the dream, I think, to be able to
- 27:11Speaker 1: go out on your own terms. So where do you
- 27:12Speaker 1: live now? And what's going on now in your life?
- 27:16Speaker 4: So?
- 27:17Speaker 5: So I live in Cambridge, which I'm sure you guys
- 27:19Speaker 5: have heard of. It's just north of London. I'm married
- 27:24Speaker 5: to an amazing woman called Becks and we've been married
- 27:27Speaker 5: now for six years and that's just flown by.
- 27:32Speaker 4: That's flown flown by.
- 27:35Speaker 5: And I have a daughter from a previous relationship, Clementine.
- 27:40Speaker 3: I love that Clementine. God's a gorgeous.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Does she live there too?
- 27:46Speaker 4: She does? Yeah, that's like a book.
- 27:49Speaker 2: I wish I would have heard about this like ten
- 27:51Speaker 2: years ago, and I would have written a children's book
- 27:53Speaker 2: Clementine and Cambridge, you know.
- 27:55Speaker 3: So cute.
- 27:56Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, sometimes I say Clementine sometimes as I say
- 28:00Speaker 5: it like in the French.
- 28:01Speaker 2: But do you speak French too?
- 28:04Speaker 5: No, not really no, oh but no, so so yes.
- 28:12Speaker 5: And then you know it's that it's getting into your
- 28:14Speaker 5: forties and then I'm forty three this year and it's
- 28:17Speaker 5: like wow, and you know, just trying to keep positive
- 28:23Speaker 5: and keep healthy and fit and grow, you know, growing
- 28:28Speaker 5: old gracefully.
- 28:30Speaker 3: That's all we can do.
- 28:30Speaker 4: That.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Well, we gotta try, that's right.
- 28:33Speaker 4: Rob and I have still got our hair.
- 28:35Speaker 1: We do, buddy, we still got it. I mean, come on,
- 28:38Speaker 1: how lucky are we? I mean I couldn't go that
- 28:41Speaker 1: mustache of my life dependent on it, though I can't
- 28:43Speaker 1: go the same in my life.
- 28:55Speaker 2: I was actually going to say that compared to the
- 28:58Speaker 2: Bachelorettes before the show, like you were saying that teeth
- 29:02Speaker 2: and go into the gym. At least you guys didn't
- 29:04Speaker 2: have to worry about hair, because they literally put fake
- 29:07Speaker 2: hair on me, you know where you get extensions. At
- 29:13Speaker 2: least you didn't have to worry about that. And now
- 29:15Speaker 2: you can say that it's still your own.
- 29:18Speaker 3: That's true.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Heads of hair, boys.
- 29:21Speaker 5: Was the hair extensions part one of the most difficult
- 29:25Speaker 5: elements of kind of the that role, Trista.
- 29:28Speaker 2: I mean I don't definitely not one of the most difficult,
- 29:32Speaker 2: but kind of the most interesting for me, just because
- 29:37Speaker 2: I feel like, why don't you just go on there
- 29:38Speaker 2: and be yourself? You know, I wish that more these
- 29:41Speaker 2: days that I you know, I think I had fake nails,
- 29:46Speaker 2: I had fake hair. I you know, all women wear
- 29:51Speaker 2: tons of makeup and push up bras and you know,
- 29:54Speaker 2: all the things. So not to say that I'm not
- 29:57Speaker 2: open to having a little botox here there and filler
- 30:01Speaker 2: and you know whatever, but you know, I just I
- 30:04Speaker 2: wish that our culture just was more accepting of all
- 30:11Speaker 2: different kinds of people. However, you look, we love you, you know.
- 30:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I hope I'm hoping that's changing. I really am.
- 30:18Speaker 5: And also on on the on the male side as well,
- 30:21Speaker 5: that you know, men don't have to have six packs,
- 30:24Speaker 5: and I mean I certainly didn't.
- 30:25Speaker 3: I remember, yeah, neither.
- 30:26Speaker 4: I remember when they.
- 30:27Speaker 5: Were filming a topless bit and I could just see
- 30:29Speaker 5: one of the camera guy like, oh god, I mean
- 30:34Speaker 5: I thought they said that for his gym, So I
- 30:40Speaker 5: was no, I was no Brad Womack. I didn't have
- 30:43Speaker 5: the Brad Womack body.
- 30:44Speaker 3: No, not too many people did.
- 30:46Speaker 1: I didn't have the Ryan Sutter body on just the
- 30:48Speaker 1: season as a bachelor that are at That's why I
- 30:51Speaker 1: got kicked in the curb.
- 30:52Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure he's so. But you know it's funny.
- 30:58Speaker 1: I will tell you I'm made the six pack go
- 31:01Speaker 1: out of style a few years previous for you, so
- 31:03Speaker 1: set this, I set the pace for you.
- 31:05Speaker 3: But I will tell you this. Yeah, I.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Still say to this day because Ryan and I were
- 31:11Speaker 1: kind of roommates on Test this season, and I would
- 31:13Speaker 1: always be like, I would marry this.
- 31:15Speaker 3: Guy, Like I'm honestly, you know, this guy is amazing.
- 31:19Speaker 4: Now that would make for an interesting batchelor, would I.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Think that would be on a different, different network and
- 31:25Speaker 3: more than likely.
- 31:26Speaker 1: But yeah, But I mean, I just loved having you on, buddy,
- 31:31Speaker 1: and I think that, you know, from the standpoint of
- 31:34Speaker 1: what you've been able to do, I think it's been great.
- 31:35Speaker 3: So congratulations and thanks for being a part.
- 31:38Speaker 4: Of it with us.
- 31:39Speaker 5: And it's it's it's not very often that that I
- 31:42Speaker 5: get to to talk about it, so it's nice to
- 31:46Speaker 5: bring back those memories.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Does anyone there know, like, do you ever get recognized?
- 31:51Speaker 5: I think occasionally in London by American tourists, but occasionally
- 31:58Speaker 5: three Blue Moon. Yeah, but it's I still, I still,
- 32:01Speaker 5: I still, you know, for all I can.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I have to do it.
- 32:10Speaker 4: Guys, thank you so much for having me on.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Oh, thank you for coming on. We're so excited that
- 32:16Speaker 2: because I feel like you. I was looking you up
- 32:18Speaker 2: on Instagram to see if I could just see you know,
- 32:21Speaker 2: do my like pre research and just to see what
- 32:25Speaker 2: was going on in your life lately, and I couldn't
- 32:27Speaker 2: find you. And I'm like, oh, I'm sure he's just
- 32:30Speaker 2: like I don't need Instagram, like I'm living my life.
- 32:33Speaker 2: I just wanted to private. Yeah, so thank you for coming.
- 32:37Speaker 3: You did.
- 32:38Speaker 5: Yeah, if the radar's okay, next time we have more time,
- 32:43Speaker 5: then we'll go into all that that that stuff. So
- 32:47Speaker 5: you have to invite me back.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Would love that love that. Maybe maybe you can bring
- 32:53Speaker 2: your your lovely wife backs on with you. Maybe we'll
- 32:57Speaker 2: do maybe we'll do a couples if she, if she
- 33:00Speaker 2: would be open.
- 33:00Speaker 5: To it, I can well, I can ask, but I
- 33:03Speaker 5: think I know the answer.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Probably the same as my wife. My wife's always like, yeah,
- 33:10Speaker 3: I'm good, No, thank you, right.
- 33:14Speaker 2: I'm like you're talking awesome, well, thank.
- 33:19Speaker 3: You, continued success.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Cheers to you by such a nice guy, right, I mean, honestly,
- 33:29Speaker 1: I love him and it's not just I mean, I'm
- 33:31Speaker 1: sure there's a certain element of his English charm that
- 33:34Speaker 1: you know is just kind of there, but you can
- 33:37Speaker 1: genuinely tell that he is just a good person, just
- 33:39Speaker 1: a nice person, and came see that experience, you know,
- 33:43Speaker 1: I think you with taking the right lessons from it.
- 33:45Speaker 1: You know, he said it was a lesson in humility
- 33:48Speaker 1: as well, and I think that's people that come off
- 33:51Speaker 1: the show realizing that, you know, there were some moments
- 33:53Speaker 1: that they would have done differently, or however it might go.
- 33:56Speaker 3: I think probably get the most out of it than
- 33:58Speaker 3: anybody else. You know.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I would love to know. I would love to
- 34:02Speaker 2: have him back because I would love to know what
- 34:05Speaker 2: Why did he become so private? I feel like there's
- 34:08Speaker 2: a story.
- 34:08Speaker 3: There, you know, I think there is too.
- 34:10Speaker 2: There's a reason that he's private. I don't know if
- 34:13Speaker 2: it's because of his wife or or before, but I
- 34:17Speaker 2: so when I was looking on Instagram, there there was
- 34:21Speaker 2: an article I think from people magazine and or an
- 34:24Speaker 2: Instagram post or something and they they tagged him, or
- 34:28Speaker 2: they tagged an Instagram handle and I clicked on it,
- 34:32Speaker 2: and I was like, that is not him. So I
- 34:34Speaker 2: wonder if back then, if he had this Instagram handle
- 34:39Speaker 2: and then he got rid of it and someone else
- 34:40Speaker 2: took it up. Yea, So maybe he wasn't so private
- 34:45Speaker 2: back then when he was still living in the States.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Uh sure, son, you know who knows. I mean, at
- 34:51Speaker 1: the end of the day, I think, you know, it's
- 34:53Speaker 1: probably one of those things. He just wanted to go
- 34:54Speaker 1: back to his old life because he had a daughter
- 34:56Speaker 1: and you know, and or now he has a daughter.
- 34:59Speaker 1: I shaidn't, but maybe that was what Droe. I don't know,
- 35:02Speaker 1: but I would love to have him back on too.
- 35:03Speaker 1: He's really, to hear, a really great guest.
- 35:06Speaker 2: He is such I love the accent. I mean, I
- 35:10Speaker 2: kind of wish you would have broke you.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Know well when he did his when he did his
- 35:14Speaker 1: American accent, that was almost my inn.
- 35:15Speaker 3: But I didn't want to be like hell then, so
- 35:18Speaker 3: I held off.
- 35:20Speaker 2: I know, I was like, okame on, do it. Do it?
- 35:23Speaker 3: Care for team mate is what I would have said,
- 35:27Speaker 3: you know.
- 35:27Speaker 2: I can't even try mine. I would just be butchering
- 35:30Speaker 2: a period. End of story. Thanks for listening to everybody,
- 35:33Speaker 2: Thanks everybody,
