Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Right now, Gavin Gray out of the UK, and how
- 0:02Speaker 1: is Britain responding, the UK responding to news that Biden
- 0:08Speaker 1: has given the green light for the use of these
- 0:10Speaker 1: long range missiles and to Russia for Ukraine, and now
- 0:13Speaker 1: that Ukraine has used them.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Yeah, right, It's a bit of a sort of Cagy
- 0:18Speaker 2: game at the moment, because of course America not saying
- 0:20Speaker 2: a great deal about its involvement, leaving it to Ukraine
- 0:23Speaker 2: to talk about and indeed the UK sort of playing
- 0:27Speaker 2: a similar game. So Keir Starmer saying the quickest way
- 0:30Speaker 2: for this conflict to end is for Russia to stop.
- 0:33Speaker 2: He said, it's a thousand days of Russian aggression, a
- 0:35Speaker 2: thousand days of sacrifice by Ukraine. And he said, it's
- 0:39Speaker 2: clear that we must give Ukraine the support that's needed
- 0:42Speaker 2: for as long as it's needed, and the simplest way
- 0:45Speaker 2: to end this conflict is for Russia to stop the aggression.
- 0:48Speaker 2: He would not be drawn on the significance of that
- 0:51Speaker 2: decision by the Americans to let Ukraine use those missiles
- 0:55Speaker 2: for strikes into Russia. And you know, similar comments actually
- 0:57Speaker 2: made as well by the europe Union's top diplomat, Joseppe
- 1:02Speaker 2: Burrell in comments and response really to Russia changing its
- 1:08Speaker 2: changing its sort of constitution as it were around when
- 1:11Speaker 2: it is okay to fire a nuclear weapon, and Josette
- 1:15Speaker 2: Burrell sayings not the first time they threatened nuclear escalation.
- 1:18Speaker 2: It is completely irresponsible. Interesting that as you look as
- 1:22Speaker 2: well at the financial markets now across Europe, the dollar
- 1:27Speaker 2: has risen against major rivals like the pound and the
- 1:30Speaker 2: euro gold cost jumped, and plenty of people as well
- 1:33Speaker 2: looking at the markets which are very jittery over this,
- 1:37Speaker 2: with the pound losing some value against the dollar this afternoon.
- 1:41Speaker 2: And suffice to say as well that earlier the foreign
- 1:44Speaker 2: ministers of the UK, Germany, France, Poland, Italy and Spain
- 1:47Speaker 2: all releasing a joint statement saying russia systematic attacks on
- 1:51Speaker 2: European security architecture are unprecedented in their variety, in scale
- 1:56Speaker 2: and creating a significant security risk. And by that they're
- 2:00Speaker 2: talking about recent cuts to communication cables between the European Union.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Yeah, a lot going on there, and we just spoke
- 2:07Speaker 1: to Russian security expert who reckons, look, it is significant
- 2:10Speaker 1: that the Americans are involved here and it's their weaponry
- 2:13Speaker 1: that's going now long range into Russia. Five out of six.
- 2:17Speaker 1: By the way the Russians managed to shoot down before
- 2:19Speaker 1: they hit it is significant, but that Russia is not
- 2:22Speaker 1: going to do very much in the way of a response.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Nothing too drastic or significant. That was his take anyway.
- 2:29Speaker 1: For more from Early Edition with Ryan Bridge, listen live
