- 0:03Speaker 1: I remember thinking eighty two it was taking my Ordination test.
- 0:08Speaker 1: And I got in there and I got cold feet,
- 0:12Speaker 1: and I just felt like I wasn't ready for the tests,
- 0:17Speaker 1: and I was scared and for various reasons, and so
- 0:24Speaker 1: I made up my mind I'm not taking a test.
- 0:26Speaker 1: So I turned around and walked out of the Civic
- 0:29Speaker 1: Center and got half about a few feet from the door.
- 0:33Speaker 1: And who did I run into? Elder Thomas Jakes and
- 0:38Speaker 1: he says, where are you going? And I said, well,
- 0:41Speaker 1: I'm not ready for this test. Man, I said, I
- 0:44Speaker 1: can't past this test, and I don't wanna, you know,
- 0:47Speaker 1: just look like a food. He said, man, uh, you
- 0:51Speaker 1: don't get uh opportunities in life very often like this.
- 0:55Speaker 1: And he said, so you need to take advantage of this.
- 1:00Speaker 1: He says, now I want you to go right back
- 1:02Speaker 1: in there and take that test. Mind you, I wasn't
- 1:06Speaker 1: a member, we were just friends. He says, I'll know,
- 1:09Speaker 1: I know you'll do good. And obviously I went back
- 1:13Speaker 1: in and I passed that test. But it was his
- 1:18Speaker 1: encouraging words that turned me around when I was about
- 1:21Speaker 1: to quit.
- 1:22Speaker 2: What I remember about Bishop that I love is how
- 1:24Speaker 2: he spoke into my life. And he may not even
- 1:26Speaker 2: remember this. This is before my husband and I got married.
- 1:29Speaker 2: But he came to my church and ran revival. And
- 1:32Speaker 2: I had been going through a period of my life
- 1:33Speaker 2: for I was just so uncertain, wanted to leave, was
- 1:36Speaker 2: gonna move away and get another job. And he and
- 1:39Speaker 2: our fellowship briefly after church that night, and as he
- 1:43Speaker 2: ministered to me, the very pertinent words that he said
- 1:46Speaker 2: that made the impact of my life was he said,
- 1:48Speaker 2: he said there, he said, God's gonna allow you to leave,
- 1:51Speaker 2: but he wants to bless.
- 1:52Speaker 1: You here first.
- 1:53Speaker 2: But not long after that then I became engaged to
- 1:57Speaker 2: my husband, and I thank God that, you know, God
- 2:01Speaker 2: allowed that word to permeate.
- 2:03Speaker 3: I still went for the interview.
- 2:05Speaker 2: By the time that i Uh came around to get
- 2:07Speaker 2: the job, and they did offer me the job, we
- 2:10Speaker 2: were engaged and no turning back since that. Since that time,
- 2:14Speaker 2: I didn't Jujah.
- 2:21Speaker 3: One story that I remember the most was when Bishop
- 2:24Speaker 3: was thirteen years old. We had both just gotten saved,
- 2:28Speaker 3: and the guy by the name of Jack boorr Uh
- 2:31Speaker 3: called us to his home and said he wanted us
- 2:33Speaker 3: to get to young people together to see an A
- 2:36Speaker 3: and B selection for the church. We went to the
- 2:38Speaker 3: first Baptist Church of Van David, and of course, as bishop,
- 2:42Speaker 3: being who he is, he took the job very serious.
- 2:45Speaker 3: And so I'm on the basketball court going down like
- 2:48Speaker 3: getting me to do this James Woody slam dunk, and
- 2:50Speaker 3: out of the corner of my eye I see him
- 2:51Speaker 3: standing over beckon for me to come on this time
- 2:54Speaker 3: to go to choir rehearsal. I said, but it's only
- 2:56Speaker 3: four thirty. He said, but if you don't come now,
- 2:58Speaker 3: you're not gonna come.
- 3:00Speaker 1: But I can see the church, you know, Wes, Let's
- 3:02Speaker 1: go now.
- 3:03Speaker 3: And when he practiced us from seven o'clock to ten
- 3:08Speaker 3: thirty for two songs that A and B selection. But
- 3:13Speaker 3: it needless to say, on uh Easter morning when we
- 3:17Speaker 3: did our selections, we got a standing ovation and we
- 3:20Speaker 3: became the Young Adult Choir
