- 0:00Being here on this planet as a sensitive, it's not just about surviving.
- 0:05You are this powerfully attuned instrument of change
- 0:10and powerful instruments often need extra
- 0:15care.
- 0:25Hello and welcome back to Remember Why You're Here,
- 0:29a podcast for seekers and sensitives where you can relax, receive,
- 0:33reconnect yourself and remember the most important thing of all,
- 0:37why you're here. I'm Asia Suler, author, earth intuitive,
- 0:42teacher and highly sensitive person. And in this podcast today,
- 0:47we're going to talk about how to survive in this world as a sensitive.
- 0:53So if you are a sensitive who has been feeling overwhelmed lately,
- 0:59or maybe for a long time in this world, I made this podcast for you.
- 1:03This episode is for you. In this episode,
- 1:06we're going to talk about why sensitive people are overwhelmed right now in the
- 1:11world, as if it weren't obvious,
- 1:12but we're going to go into the specifics of why it is the way our nervous
- 1:17systems are built means that we are more likely than not experiencing a sense of
- 1:22overwhelm right now. And I'm also going to go into five energy practices that
- 1:27I use all the time to help me come back to center,
- 1:31because when we know how to release the overwhelm,
- 1:35come back to ourselves,
- 1:38we can then access the gifts that we're meant to bring to this world.
- 1:41And ultimately, in this podcast,
- 1:43I'm speaking to the part of you that feels like,
- 1:46how can I possibly survive living in this world?
- 1:50And hopefully by the end of this podcast, you'll not only know how to survive,
- 1:53but how to thrive as well. Before we get started,
- 1:57I wanted to mention that my 12-week in- depth Spiritual School for Sensitives
- 2:03Earth Angel School is closing for enrollment next week.
- 2:07So we only open the doors to this school once a year,
- 2:11and that door is closing next week on April 15th.
- 2:14That will also be our first day of class. We have weekly classes every week
- 2:19for 12 weeks, as well as discussion groups led by me,
- 2:23a whole library of bonus materials,
- 2:26guided meditations to accompany you throughout your day,
- 2:29and an optional in- person retreat at the end.
- 2:33On our first day next week, we're going to dive into the secret.
- 2:38This first class is called the secret, and in this class,
- 2:40I talk about the way in which this term Earth Angel can actually
- 2:45help you open up to an understanding of yourself that you probably have never
- 2:48had before,
- 2:49and that is going to completely reset the way you see yourself and your
- 2:53sensitivity in this life from here on out.
- 2:56I'm so excited to get started with this new cohort.
- 2:59Everyone who has joined so far is such an incredible person.
- 3:02What makes this course so special at its heart is the community,
- 3:07the way in which folks show up for one another, support one another,
- 3:10and how we are all evolving together because ultimately we're here to support
- 3:14each other, to step into our own souls unfolding,
- 3:19to understand who we are, how we work,
- 3:22and really flourish on this planet. So if you're interested in the program,
- 3:26you have until next week to sign up. And that link is
- 3:32asiasuler.com/earthangelschool. So let's get back to the episode today.
- 3:36If you are feeling overwhelmed, I want you to know you're not crazy.
- 3:40The world is incredibly overwhelming. The world be wild right now,
- 3:44and it's going to be wild for a while. Things that are going on right now,
- 3:49there is an immense amount of intensity politically, environmentally,
- 3:53technologically. We are living through a time of enormous,
- 3:58enormous change.
- 3:59And if you are someone who feels deeply,
- 4:03notices subtlety, picks up on emotional and energetic undercurrents,
- 4:09this moment of history is probably going to feel pretty overwhelming.
- 4:11And if you're listening to this,
- 4:12you probably are that kind of person because this is who a sensitive is.
- 4:16This is how us sensitives operate.
- 4:20So I want you to know that if you feel overwhelmed right now,
- 4:23you are not broken. Your nervous system is just incredibly responsive
- 4:29and you are not crazy.
- 4:30You are literally just feeling the bigness in the energies right now in this
- 4:34world. But there is a way, even amongst the intensity,
- 4:38even amongst the bigness to meet what is happening,
- 4:42to companion yourself and to learn how to be
- 4:48able to be with bigness and translate it into
- 4:54big changes for yourself,
- 4:55into big ability to access your own life force,
- 5:00to understand your own internal guidance system and to show up in the world in
- 5:03the way you most deeply desire to.
- 5:06So let's go into some specifics about why as sensitives,
- 5:09we get overwhelmed when there are big things happening in the world. Well,
- 5:15very specifically, sensitive people,
- 5:17we are designed to be early detectors of change.
- 5:22This is why evolutionarily sensitive people are created, among other things.
- 5:27And so we can detect when there is emotional tension in the room,
- 5:31when there is social unrest, even if it's unspoken,
- 5:34we are tuned into collective grief and environmental changes. We are tracking
- 5:39all of these changes. So anytime something is shifting in the field,
- 5:43we're noticing it.
- 5:44We are perceiving it and we are also using that information to pick up on
- 5:48patterns. And so we are noticing subtleties all the time.
- 5:52And in a world that is less than subtle,
- 5:54you can imagine that that's a lot of information that our systems are intaking,
- 5:59understanding, and trying to find patterns within.
- 6:02I also want to name this fact that though it's true that as
- 6:07sensitives,
- 6:08we will get overwhelmed by literal information like reading too many
- 6:13articles about the same thing or being exposed to too many different pieces of
- 6:18news in a day. It's also true.
- 6:20And what I find is that sensitives will often sense the change in the world
- 6:25before they even read the news. Have you noticed this in yourself?
- 6:29I've noticed this in myself, that I might take a day away, for example,
- 6:33from looking at my phone or tuning into the news,
- 6:36and I'm just feeling this inescapable sense of anxiety
- 6:41or panic or overwhelm. And it doesn't fit with my life. I'm like,
- 6:46" Nothing's happening right now in my life. Why does it feel so intense?
- 6:50"And then I log back in and I see that something big has happened while I've
- 6:53been away. And while no one has talked to me about it,
- 6:55I have not read anything about it anywhere.
- 6:57My body was picking up on it in the field.
- 7:00My nervous system was picking up on the subtle changes in the global
- 7:05environment and already responding to it. And so I just want to tell you,
- 7:10you're not crazy.
- 7:12If you are having these big emotional dips or overwhelm and you're
- 7:17maybe not even that tuned in to what is happening on a daily basis,
- 7:21know that your nervous system is picking up on it, is trying to respond to it,
- 7:25is tracking it,
- 7:26and is trying to perceive the pattern so you're not nuts. This is literally how
- 7:31you were designed.
- 7:31And you can imagine that that does make it hard to not feel overwhelmed
- 7:36at times because when big things are happening,
- 7:39we're then using a lot of ourselves to track that bigness and make it make
- 7:44sense.
- 7:45Because this is the reality of being a sensitive person is that we're tracking
- 7:49everything all the time. Even when we don't think we're tracking,
- 7:52our tracker is still on and it's working in hyper mode.
- 7:57So especially if you're an empath when it comes to other people,
- 8:02you are constantly tracking their wellbeing and their nervous system.
- 8:06And this doesn't just stop with your intimate acquaintances or intimate people
- 8:11you know. This extends to people online, the people you're reading,
- 8:15it extends to the people you're reading about,
- 8:18other people in other parts of the world here you will never meet.
- 8:21You are also attempting to track them, how they're doing,
- 8:25how their nervous system is. It's a beautiful aspect of being an empath and
- 8:29being a sensitive that we have the ability and desire to track other people
- 8:35to track how they are doing and where they're at.
- 8:39And it becomes untenable when we are literally trying to track
- 8:44millions of nervous systems at one time.
- 8:48So giving yourself a little bit of grace here and knowing that one of the things
- 8:52that we do as empaths in particular with this tracking
- 8:57propensity is that we perspective take.
- 9:00So I know I remember this when I was a kid that when I first started learning
- 9:04about really hard things on the planet,
- 9:06like violence and atrocity and war and genocide and all of
- 9:11those things that I would then obsessively perspective take,
- 9:15like obsessively try to put myself into the position of someone who
- 9:20was experiencing this kind of harm or oppression.
- 9:24And this is just something that sensitives naturally do.
- 9:29We just perspective take until we literally can't even feel anymore
- 9:34what our perspective is or where we are at.
- 9:36And so you're probably innately doing this, whether or not you even realize it,
- 9:41whether or not you're even aware of it. The moment you hear a story,
- 9:45any kind of story,
- 9:46whether it's a story your friend told you or it's a story on the news,
- 9:49you immediately jump into perspective taking of like,
- 9:52what would it feel like to be that person? How would this feel my body?
- 9:56What is the emotional landscape?
- 9:58It's so beautiful because it gives us the ability to understand people,
- 10:03to empathize with people,
- 10:04to access unconditional love for those that we care about
- 10:10and those who we encounter in this world.
- 10:13And you can imagine that that's overwhelming for our bodies because not only are
- 10:17we being exposed to stories, events, things that are hard to process,
- 10:22but then we're doubling down by putting ourselves into that
- 10:26situation in our minds and our consciousness and our emotional body. And our
- 10:31bodies don't read that as something different than what's happening for us right
- 10:34here, right now. So yes, of course, this will also cause a state of overwhelm.
- 10:39We as empaths and sensitives are often processing other people's
- 10:44emotions and collective fear.
- 10:47And so not only are we taking on individual perspectives,
- 10:50but we're kind of like this wide open container where we're doing
- 10:54work in the collective to process collective energies as they're moving through
- 10:59us. We're receptive to them,
- 11:01and so we literally receive them and then we move them through ourselves.
- 11:05And so all of these things
- 11:08are things that make being a sensitive person just so very beautiful.
- 11:13It's why we were created. It's why we are the way we are on this planet.
- 11:16We are innate healers and transformers.
- 11:20We carry templates for a way of being that the earth is in a
- 11:25movement right now to return to within humanity. And you
- 11:30can imagine,
- 11:30especially in our interconnected world where we are exposed to frankly,
- 11:35just way too much sensory detail and information on a daily basis that
- 11:40sensitives,
- 11:41us as sensitives will feel overwhelmed more often than not.
- 11:46This is why we need this thing called energy hygiene.
- 11:51So energy hygiene are practices that help you clear, regulate,
- 11:55and replenish your nervous system.
- 11:57Think about energy hygiene like a shower or a bath for your energy.
- 12:03What ends up happening when you're sensitive, sensitive people, we care.
- 12:07We can never stop caring. That's never going to end. So you care,
- 12:11you care deeply.
- 12:12And what happens is we end up over accumulating emotional residue and
- 12:17charge from the world around us.
- 12:19We accumulate and stay in a state of nervous system activation.
- 12:24And this can cause things like mental noise, fog, exhaustion,
- 12:28and overload. And so if you are experiencing those things,
- 12:31you can know that you probably need a little bit of energy hygiene in your life.
- 12:35And this goes hand in hand with boundaries.
- 12:38I talked about boundaries a few podcasts ago. If you're interested in that,
- 12:42definitely check that out, how to set boundaries to create new worlds.
- 12:46We need emotional,
- 12:48energetic and attention boundaries in order to
- 12:54have the space that we need to process what is ours and let go of what is not
- 12:59ours. And so this energy hygiene practices,
- 13:02which I'm going to go into in a little bit,
- 13:05these practices that will help you feel yourself again and release what's not
- 13:07yours go hand in hand with setting the boundaries that you need so that you're
- 13:11not constantly overgiving or constantly having things come into your field
- 13:16that bombard you and make you unable to actually feel and access yourself.
- 13:21Because at the end of the day, we as sensitives,
- 13:23we're made to not only survive this world,
- 13:25but to help humanity survive. And so your role
- 13:30as a sensitive is first to understand how you can survive in any given
- 13:35moment in time. And once you do that, once you know how to care for yourself,
- 13:40even in the midst of bigness,
- 13:42you become a force that helps humanity survival.
- 13:45And not just our physical survival, but our emotional, energetic,
- 13:49and spiritual survival as well. Sensitives,
- 13:52we want the heart of humanity to survive.
- 13:54We want our heart to be even more intact.
- 13:58And it starts with knowing how to care for ourselves in a world that
- 14:03contains a lot of bigness, a lot of intensity, and a lot of change right now.
- 14:08The whole goal for us as sensitives is to continually come home to ourselves
- 14:13because when we come home to ourselves, we have access to the energy,
- 14:16perspective, power, and possibility that can create new worlds in this world,
- 14:21that can feed, change, transformation,
- 14:24revolution. And so it begins with coming home to ourselves and accessing our
- 14:29power again.
- 14:30So before I go into these five practices to help you come home to yourself,
- 14:34I would love for you to just take a moment and think about the last time you
- 14:37felt fully at home in yourself. Let's resource ourself in this moment.
- 14:42When's the last time you felt like just really at home?
- 14:47And as you concentrate on this and bring it to your awareness, I'm curious,
- 14:51what was it that you were doing?
- 14:54Maybe you can see yourself in your mind's eye, in that place,
- 14:58in that time.
- 15:01I'm curious if you were alone or with someone.
- 15:07If you were with someone, who were you with? Was it a human?
- 15:09Was it your animal companion?
- 15:12And I just want you to bathe your nervous system for a second in this memory of
- 15:16where you were, what you were doing, who you were with,
- 15:21just really sensing that feeling inside of yourself of being home.
- 15:27And now I want you to notice how much
- 15:32power and energy you have access to now inside of yourself
- 15:37for remembering this moment.
- 15:41Think back to that moment where you were really at home in yourself.
- 15:46Can you feel this sense of inhabiting your whole body?
- 15:50This sense of energy flowing outwards from you,
- 15:56this sense of creativity and possibility coming
- 16:01online.
- 16:03And I want you to just feel in a tactile way that energy inside of yourself now,
- 16:07that power. Feel how fruitful that power is,
- 16:13how that power can move things,
- 16:17can change things. How just for existing in this world,
- 16:20that power shifts the fabric of reality.
- 16:27So that is what we're going to return to here when I talk about these five
- 16:31practices for coming home to yourself, and this is why we do them,
- 16:34so we can access this power,
- 16:36this power that not only fuels us and our ability to be alive and survive on
- 16:41this planet,
- 16:42but that facilitates us to create the change we are meant to bring to this
- 16:46planet through inhabiting ourselves fully and completely exactly
- 16:51as we are. So these are five practices that I turn to,
- 16:55especially when I feel overwhelmed in the world.
- 16:58And I find that these five practices can really help create a pillar of
- 17:02foundation and support so that you not only feel like, okay,
- 17:06I think I can survive this world, but you also start to feel like, okay,
- 17:11I am not only here for this, but I was designed for this.
- 17:15I was made for this. I was made for this time for a reason. Okay.
- 17:20So practice number one is to keep a palm stone in your pocket.
- 17:25So I love working with stone medicine.
- 17:28I think stone medicine is one of the most powerful medicines on this planet.
- 17:32It is ancient. We have been a relationship with stones forever as human beings,
- 17:37and there are a couple benefits of keeping a stone on you. First of all,
- 17:41you get the energetic or metaphysical properties of that stone.
- 17:45So a lot of empaths like to work with dark stones,
- 17:49things like black tourmaline, for example,
- 17:51or smokey quartz as a way to protect or shield their energy.
- 17:55So if you feel like things are bombarding you all the time,
- 17:59keep a black stone in your pocket. Slip it into your pocket,
- 18:02or I definitely have known people who if they don't have pockets,
- 18:05they put it in their bra,
- 18:06but a way for it to be close to you. And even if it's possible for it to be on
- 18:10your skin, this can also be really helpful.
- 18:13I also love to keep pink stones in my pockets.
- 18:16Pink stones help us release anxiety and panic.
- 18:21Pink stones connect us to our heart again.
- 18:23I find them to be very soothing for the emotional body.
- 18:26Rose quartz is my absolute favorite, but I also love rotonite and rotochrosite.
- 18:31So these are some of my all time favorites, but why keeping it on you?
- 18:35Why keeping it in your pocket? Well,
- 18:37beyond the fact that you're actually receiving that stone's energy,
- 18:40it is helping to remind you of the intention that you're setting with that
- 18:44stone. It is working with you and your energy and your consciousness,
- 18:48and it's helping your nervous system to have an anchor point and have a
- 18:53place where you can release tension.
- 18:56So my favorite thing about having stones in my pockets is the way they become my
- 18:59fidget toys. So fidget toys are actually really,
- 19:03really helpful items to help us release energy in our nervous system.
- 19:08So having any kind of fidget, and in this case,
- 19:11I'm talking about having a stone in your pocket.
- 19:13It's so wonderful when you have that stone in your pocket, how it warms up.
- 19:16So it becomes your body temperature.
- 19:18You can stick your head in your pocket and play around with the stone at any
- 19:21point, pull it out, hold it, keep it in your palm.
- 19:25And these sort of micro movements,
- 19:27it prevents the body from going into overwhelm.
- 19:30So this is why we do things like hair twirling or why we bounce our foot.
- 19:33This is really helpful and regulating for us.
- 19:36And it also keeps the energy circulating as well as discharging any nervous
- 19:40energy. So you might have other fidget toys that you love,
- 19:44but I just love the combination of the energetic medicine that stones bring
- 19:49us,
- 19:49the anchor point that they can help remind us of our intention with the stone,
- 19:52and then the reality that they're just wonderful to hold onto. They're such nice
- 19:57companions and make for really wonderful fidgets to have around.
- 20:01So I recommend going either to a stone store or just walking around
- 20:06outside and finding a stone that feels really good to hold in your hand.
- 20:09That's really the only requirement.
- 20:11Set an intention with that stone and then keep that stone with you,
- 20:14especially when you go out into the world because it will really help you set
- 20:18those boundaries,
- 20:18release the built up energetic tension that you tend to accumulate throughout
- 20:22your day and come back to your center.
- 20:25The second practice for energy hygiene is to shower at night instead of in the
- 20:30morning. So some of you might be morning showers out there and you're like,
- 20:34"Aja,
- 20:35I am not going to let go of that morning shower." And I'm not saying you have
- 20:37to,
- 20:38but I am saying that it is very helpful at the end of the day to have a shower,
- 20:42even if it's adding on to your morning shower,
- 20:46maybe having two showers a day. If you have access to running water and the
- 20:50ability to do this,
- 20:51showering at night is incredibly helpful for releasing
- 20:56charges that are ready to go, ready to be composted,
- 20:59ready to go back to the earth. Without even realizing at us as sensitives,
- 21:03we pick up charges throughout the day.
- 21:05And most of us actually have a really profound relationship with water because
- 21:08we already recognize that water helps us to release those charges.
- 21:13So my favorite practice at the end of a day is once my daughter's asleep,
- 21:18once the tasks for the day are done,
- 21:21I go and I take a shower and it doesn't matter whether or not I need that
- 21:25shower. If I'm overwhelmed that day, I will be taking one.
- 21:29And it doesn't even have to be long. It can just be a few minutes.
- 21:31I don't wash my hair.
- 21:32I put my hair up. I just let the warm water run over my body.
- 21:36Not only is this very relaxing and soothing for our nervous system, obviously.
- 21:41I mean, we were born before we were born,
- 21:43we were created in a womb of warm water.
- 21:47Warm water is one of the easiest and fastest ways to relax a nervous system.
- 21:51As it moves over you, it's also releasing and cleansing away the day,
- 21:55cleansing away the energies that you've picked up throughout the day.
- 21:58And what I've noticed is that if I complete all those sort of the tasky stuff
- 22:03before I shower, I shower and then it resets my energy,
- 22:07especially if I'm feeling tired or I'm just like doomscrolling instead of
- 22:11actually doing the things that will nourish me,
- 22:13I will convince myself to put the phone down, to step away, go take a shower,
- 22:17and then I often feel reinvigorated to do the things that are actually going to
- 22:21feed me. I take quiet time for the rest of the night, time for myself,
- 22:25time to nourish myself,
- 22:26and it really helps me reset so that I can meet the next day feeling fresh
- 22:31again. The third practice is to do a weekly tech Shabbat.
- 22:37So when we go on our phone,
- 22:39especially if we're logging into something like social media,
- 22:42we are literally being exposed to thousands of nervous systems
- 22:47every single time we do that. Even if you have your algorithm curated,
- 22:51so you're only being shown things that you really care about or you find really
- 22:55interesting or you find really funny,
- 22:56the fact remains that when we enter that field,
- 22:59we are interacting with thousands of nervous systems.
- 23:02And remember how we talked about how as sensitive people,
- 23:05we naturally track nervous systems.
- 23:07It's just one of those things that we're going to do. Well,
- 23:10you can imagine that being on your phone and being engaged in technology is
- 23:15linking you into so many nervous systems,
- 23:18so much energy in the collective that we don't even realize how much energy is
- 23:22going towards that,
- 23:24how much we're pouring into that. So one of my dearest friends in the whole
- 23:28world observes an Orthodox Shabbat. And for the longest time,
- 23:32we have all known that from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday,
- 23:35she is unavailable. You cannot text her. You cannot call her.
- 23:38You will hear from her again on Saturday night.
- 23:41And so I was really inspired by this practice that she upholds for herself and
- 23:45her family to start turning off my phone at Sundown Friday until sundown
- 23:50Saturday every single week.
- 23:52I have done this on and off now for years.
- 23:55I was very consistent about it before my daughter was born.
- 23:58After my daughter was born, some things shifted a little bit.
- 24:00I felt like I needed to be able to communicate with caregivers, et cetera,
- 24:03et cetera.
- 24:04And now I'm at the space where I can really go back into this textShabot.
- 24:09I have my life set up in a way where there are other ways to communicate. We
- 24:13have our schedules, we have our programs.
- 24:16And what I noticed when I started doing this again after a couple years of not
- 24:20having done it,
- 24:21is that it was literally shocking how much energy I had again,
- 24:25just for turning off my phone for 24 hours. And there are workarounds for this.
- 24:30You could get a landline if you still need to be in contact.
- 24:33If you live with someone and they're not doing a textShabot,
- 24:36you can let people know, "Hey, if there's emergency,
- 24:38text them." So there are ways to do it where you still create the feeling of
- 24:42connection or safety.
- 24:44But what I often find is that even knowing that someone might text us,
- 24:49even knowing that there are texts we still need to respond to,
- 24:52it is a constant pull on our attention and our awareness and our energy.
- 24:57Turning off the phone,
- 24:58it's like there is a background sound going on the whole time,
- 25:02like the dryer has been going on for hours and it goes off and all of a sudden
- 25:07you don't even realize how loud I had been and how much you had been having to
- 25:11deal with sensorially. And then it goes quiet and your whole body just
- 25:16relaxes. That's how my weekly tech Shabbats feel.
- 25:19It is actually magical what happens for me when I turn
- 25:24my phone off for that 24 hours.
- 25:27I also choose to turn off my computer and turn off TV to step
- 25:32away from those devices altogether.
- 25:34I normally find that Friday nights are the most creative nights of my week.
- 25:39I end up having huge brainwaves and breakthroughs about what I need to do to
- 25:43shift things around in my life to feel more alive, to feel more in tune.
- 25:47I have creative breakthroughs. I relax in a way.
- 25:50I don't relax any other time of the week. I'm more present with my daughter.
- 25:54It's really incredible to see how much I
- 26:00default to being engaged in and in tracking other things.
- 26:05And when I take that away,
- 26:07I see my capacity for presence. It's such a beautiful, beautiful thing.
- 26:12This will interrupt the patterns that you have where you are giving away your
- 26:15energy to your devices,
- 26:17where you were plugged in in times where you really need to be attuned to
- 26:19yourself.
- 26:21I deeply recommend a 24-hour Shabbat if you can swing it.
- 26:25If you cannot take a 24-hour break, design something that works for you.
- 26:30Maybe it's a six-hour break.
- 26:32Maybe it's setting limits on the apps on your phone and then sticking to it,
- 26:37having a 15-minute limit on whatever app you know that you end up scrolling on
- 26:41and kind of frittering away or giving away the time that you know you need for
- 26:45yourself.
- 26:46So there are steps and ways to create these limits and these boundaries.
- 26:50But what I will say is that if you have the ability
- 26:55to turn it all off, even just for a couple hours,
- 26:59you will notice so much open up for you. And I want that for you.
- 27:04I want you to have that space. I want you to have that time.
- 27:07And the thing about sensitives is that we're here to know how to attune to
- 27:13ourselves. For all of us, the answers are within, but for sensitives,
- 27:18it's an extra big task in this lifetime because we're so
- 27:23good at attuning to other people because we will naturally often put ourselves
- 27:27second or put ourselves last.
- 27:30It is at the heart of what we're here to do to learn how to attune to ourselves
- 27:35first, to hear ourselves first. But that inner voice, it can be subtle,
- 27:40it can be quiet. And so tuning out the distractions,
- 27:44taking a literal break will help you hear the guidance within you so that it
- 27:48will actually help you navigate everything else in your life.
- 27:53It'll help you have the clarity and the perspective that you need to make the
- 27:56changes you need in your life, to feel at home in yourself,
- 28:00to sit at your center, to feel replenished,
- 28:02to actually feel replenished by your nights or your mornings or your time. So
- 28:08highly, highly recommend this.
- 28:09If I could recommend any one thing for myself,
- 28:14my past self, my future self as a reminder of like, "Hey,
- 28:17it's possible to actually feel good again in life.
- 28:20Here's the only thing you need to do is take a 24-hour break from your phone and
- 28:24from technology,
- 28:25and it works like a charm." The next practice is a practice
- 28:30from Qigong and Taoism that I absolutely love.
- 28:33And it's this practice called heaven and earth energy bathing.
- 28:38So in Taoist understanding,
- 28:41we have in the lower part of our body underneath our belly button,
- 28:45there's this area called the lower dantian. This is our lower abdomen.
- 28:49And in qigong, this is where your core energy reserve lives.
- 28:53It's the root of our physical vitality. It's where we ground.
- 28:57It's our basis for emotional regulation.
- 29:00And so this practice,
- 29:03sometimes it's called pouring light. I like heaven and earth energy bathing or
- 29:07just energy bathing. The practice is this.
- 29:10The practice is that you hover your hands at your low abdomen here,
- 29:15this space where your energy reserves live.
- 29:18Imagine filling up your hands with light, warmth, energy,
- 29:23nectar,
- 29:25and then lift your hands over the midline of your body,
- 29:29up over your head.
- 29:31Feel yourself actually lift this energy up and pouring it over your head like
- 29:36a bath and really feel and see that energy moving,
- 29:40not just down the front of your body, but down your whole back body as well.
- 29:44And you can actually do this more than once.
- 29:48So if you gather the energy, pour it over your head,
- 29:51imagine it flowing over your head, replenishing you, nourishing you,
- 29:55and then cycling back into this part in your low belly,
- 29:59actually increase seeing the energy there and then pulling it up again and doing
- 30:03it again. I particularly like to do this in moments when I already feel
- 30:07nourished or when I just notice that I'm feeling really well.
- 30:12I find that when I do this energy practice, it's giving me
- 30:17energy, it's giving me life force.
- 30:20It's almost like it's an energy bank for the times ahead,
- 30:23for times when I might need to feel more of that energy.
- 30:26And literally it's gathering up your chi, your life force,
- 30:29and bathing yourself in your own chi.
- 30:32And one thing that is really cool I will mention is that I started doing this
- 30:36practice just intuitively before I found out that this was a practice in qigong
- 30:41and in Taoism. And I just absolutely love that. I think this is very intuitive.
- 30:45A lot of us, when we need resourcing, we place our hands over our low bellies,
- 30:49we hold ourselves here.
- 30:51And so this is just a natural extension of what will innately be drawn to
- 30:56do to hold ourselves here is then to hold yourself,
- 30:59hover your hands over this part of your body and then pour it over yourself and
- 31:04allow it to percolate and to really see it percolating and filling
- 31:09up yourselves with energy and vitality. In qigong,
- 31:13there is this awareness that qi or energy follows Yi,
- 31:18which is the intention.
- 31:20And so sometimes what I find with highly sensitive people in particular is
- 31:25that we want to do it right and
- 31:29we want to really make it happen.
- 31:31And the thing about this concept of ye is it's not about forcing,
- 31:35it's not about effort. So it's not about how good can you do this practice.
- 31:39It's more about this concept that gentle awareness is what guides energy.
- 31:44Not hyper focus, not like busting butt,
- 31:49it's gentle awareness that creates pathways for energy to flow.
- 31:53So one way of thinking about this in Qigong,
- 31:56I talk about the amount of energy you would use to hold a baby bird.
- 32:01That's the kind of gentle awareness you want to hold as you
- 32:06bring this energy up and flow it over yourself.
- 32:09It's almost like the more gentle you can be in your awareness here,
- 32:13the more that energy will flow. So try this practice out next time you're
- 32:17feeling good or next time you're just in a moment that you want to remember,
- 32:22you want to infuse into yourselves.
- 32:24Try this energy bathing practice and notice how you can refill yourself.
- 32:29Notice how you can feel nourished.
- 32:31The final practice I want to give to you today is something called a oracle
- 32:35walk. So I take oracle walks often.
- 32:40I recommend you take oracle walks in a natural place, if possible,
- 32:43or in a place where there are other beings, the more than human world.
- 32:48So you don't have to be in pristine nature,
- 32:49but walking through a park or walking through your neighborhood underneath the
- 32:53trees. And an oracle walk is when I use these,
- 32:57especially when I feel really overwhelmed,
- 32:59when there's a lot of energy and charge inside of myself and I almost feel like
- 33:03untouchable,
- 33:03almost like nothing can get through. When I have that kind of feeling of like
- 33:08literally like no nourishment is able to penetrate me right now, no perspective.
- 33:12I'm just like, I don't even know.
- 33:14I'm so overwhelmed and high energy and chaotic.
- 33:19The activation is so big that I just feel like the nourishment I need can't get
- 33:24through. This is when I'll do an oracle walk.
- 33:26And so these oracle walks are where you ask nature to
- 33:31come touch you. You're saying like, "Hey,
- 33:34I'm having a really hard time releasing this charge. Please come touch me.
- 33:38Please come reach out to me.
- 33:41" And so what you are doing with an oracle walk is you are setting an intention
- 33:46before you walk to ask the living world,
- 33:48to ask the wisdom that lives in the earth and the wider world to come touch you,
- 33:53to come reach you,
- 33:54to come reach you where you are so that you can start to move out of this state
- 33:58of freeze or fight,
- 34:00flight or fawn that you're in. And so it's really simple. Oracle walks,
- 34:05once you start walking, let go of whatever it is you're trying to process.
- 34:08Just let your mind be free, whatever wants to be there.
- 34:11But walk until you notice something calls to your attention.
- 34:13Just be aware of your environment. Look around.
- 34:17Look for the thing that feels like it's the message or the oracle,
- 34:21the answer to your need to release and be seen
- 34:26and connect to what's meaningful again.
- 34:28This is a practice of letting the natural world mirror a truth back to you.
- 34:33What you'll often find is that there's something on your walk,
- 34:36whether it's big or whether it's little, that ends up calling your attention in,
- 34:39that ends up really like providing this sense of relief or aha or just a sense
- 34:44of grounding.
- 34:46And this is a way to be in connection with nature,
- 34:49to be in communication with the more than human world,
- 34:54but it's also really, really helpful for our nervous system. And here's why,
- 34:58especially as a sensitive,
- 35:00we are used to tracking everything as I've mentioned before,
- 35:03including other people and their nervous systems.
- 35:05When we start doing things like an oracle walk where we're paying attention to
- 35:09the more than human world,
- 35:10we're shifting our tracker so that instead we're tracking nature.
- 35:15Instead, we're tracking bird song, we're tracking trees,
- 35:19we're tracking the wind. And this is so relieving for our nervous systems.
- 35:23This is the kind of subtlety that we were designed to really, really,
- 35:28really be attuned to.
- 35:29And it can really help downregulate our nervous systems to create a sense of
- 35:34more expansion and more possibility again,
- 35:38to soften and release the energy and the charge that has built up within us so
- 35:43that we can feel safe again in the world so that we can be open to the
- 35:47nourishment and the guidance that wants to come in. Here is a little bonus too.
- 35:52If you are on this oracle walk and you do feel a really big charge in your body,
- 35:57one thing that I love to do is to move my body in a way that
- 36:02helps me process this charge. So what do I mean by this?
- 36:06So here's an example.
- 36:07If I read something that day that just disgusts me that I just find absolutely
- 36:11repulsive while I'm walking,
- 36:13I might mime puking or just expulding it from my
- 36:17body or shaking it off. It's almost like water from my body.
- 36:21I might shake like I'm having something on my fingertips or shrugging off
- 36:26a coat that feels icky.
- 36:28Doing these movements actually really help us
- 36:33somatically to complete the energy or the charge.
- 36:37So often we have this charge inside of our body and our body wants to do
- 36:41something to complete that circuit. So whatever it is you're feeling charged by,
- 36:46ask yourself, what does your body want to do with that?
- 36:48Or if it was a situation that happened in the past that you're ruminating on or
- 36:53is bothering you in that moment, so what did your body want to do then?
- 36:56Did you want to run away? Did you want to push someone?
- 36:59Did you want to take your glove and slap someone across the face?
- 37:02Whatever it is. Do that motion with your body as you walk.
- 37:07Incorporate it into your walk.
- 37:09And this will be just like extra bonus round of releasing that charge from your
- 37:13body of completing that energy circuit and then opening yourself up again to
- 37:17hear that quiet,
- 37:19nourishing guidance inside of yourself to access once again,
- 37:23your own life force, your own directionality and your own inner knowing.
- 37:28So I hope that these five exercises are helpful. If you do these exercises,
- 37:32I'd love to hear from you. How do they work for you?
- 37:34Which one was your favorite?
- 37:36You can leave me a comment if you're listening somewhere where there are
- 37:39comments available or leave me a voice note over on my website,
- 37:43asiasuler.com/remember. I love hearing your voices.
- 37:45I love hearing stories from your day,
- 37:47and I would love to hear how these land with you because at the end of the day,
- 37:53being here on this planet as a sensitive, it's not just about surviving.
- 37:58It's about knowing how to thrive, how to be nourished by our own energy,
- 38:03how to be in our creative, passionate flow,
- 38:07how to love in the way we want to love in this world,
- 38:09to be nourished by the way in which we love and the way in which we want to give
- 38:14love,
- 38:15to be transmuters of energy on this planet. As I said
- 38:19before, highly sensitive people, we were designed to help humanity survive,
- 38:25to help the heart of humanity not only survive, but thrive.
- 38:29And so you are this powerfully attuned instrument of
- 38:34change and powerful instruments often need
- 38:40extra care. It's just how it goes.
- 38:43So I recently decided to start trying to learn violin.
- 38:46I have wanted to play violin since I was such a little girl and a friend of
- 38:51mine gifted me a violin years ago and it has just been sitting in its case
- 38:56and I've been too overwhelmed to start, but I finally sensed this energy,
- 39:01this space, this capacity myself this year.
- 39:03So I got the violin out and I'm just learning very, very basics with it.
- 39:07And I realized once I got this violin out that it has been sitting in storage
- 39:11for over 10 years and that violin needs some TLC, I realized, oh,
- 39:15I need to take this violin into the shop. It needs new strings.
- 39:18It needs just like extra care because it's such an exquisite
- 39:22instrument.
- 39:23Exquisite instruments need extra care and then they can
- 39:28produce exquisite creations.
- 39:32You are an exquisite instrument.
- 39:35You are deserving of this level of care because what you can
- 39:39create, what you can emanate into this world is life changing.
- 39:44It is world shifting. It is incredibly, incredibly healing.
- 39:49In the times to come, as we continue to move through these big changes,
- 39:53we are going to need the artists, the healers, the seers, and yes,
- 39:57the sensitives because the bigness of this time,
- 40:02it is going to continue to unfurl.
- 40:05It's not about waiting for the bigness to end.
- 40:08It's about accessing the center of ourselves in a way
- 40:13where we can meet the bigness and we can actually see ourselves unfold
- 40:18in response to this invitational bigness in the world where we can actually
- 40:23feel more of ourselves. We can access more of ourselves.
- 40:26We can access more of our creativity, our energy, our potential,
- 40:31and the healing that we are meant to bring to this world.
- 40:35So if this is resonating with you,
- 40:37if you are ready to truly thrive on this planet as a
- 40:42sensitive, I would love to journey with you in Earth Angel School.
- 40:47We are getting ready to get started next week.
- 40:49The group that has gathered already is incredible.
- 40:53This community just absolutely blows me away.
- 40:58If you are someone that wants to learn how to work with your sensitivity
- 41:03to unlock the gifts you came into this world carrying,
- 41:07if you want to create a life that actually supports your nervous system,
- 41:10if you want to make clear decisions,
- 41:13know which way to go with guidance from your deepest self and be able to connect
- 41:17to your widest knowing. If you want to be able to set boundaries with ease,
- 41:22the boundaries that you need to thrive and discover the role that you came here
- 41:27to play on this planet,
- 41:29come join me. This is a intimate 12-week program.
- 41:34It is by far the most personal thing I do,
- 41:37I offer in the world. We gather for weekly classes together,
- 41:43discussion groups.
- 41:44I get to hear about you and your heart and you get to receive what you need
- 41:49to feel truly in your power in this world to understand who you are,
- 41:54why you're here and the gifts you have to bring.
- 41:57It's amazing what can happen on the other side of learning these practices,
- 42:01these tools and these reframes. So as one of our students, Laura said,
- 42:06"I feel so much lighter now in my soul, more peaceful, stronger, and confident.
- 42:10I also feel excited about my future like I haven't for a very long
- 42:15time. I was unsure about the cost at first,
- 42:18but I can honestly say it was worth it. This class absolutely changed me.
- 42:23" So if you're feeling the call, if it feels like it's your time,
- 42:27I would love to have you in the program. We only open enrollment once a year and
- 42:32enrollment is closing next week on April 15th.
- 42:37So know that who you are is important.
- 42:39Your sensitivity is a gift.
- 42:42It is here to help this heart of humanity survive,
- 42:46and it begins with you being willing to tend to the gorgeous
- 42:50exquisite being that you are, this being that is capable of so much creativity,
- 42:56so much healing, so much potential, and so much resonance in this world.
- 43:00Your energy is what shifts this world.
- 43:03Your energy is deserving of safeguarding.
- 43:06It's deserving of sanctuary.
- 43:08So as we move into this world and more and more things
- 43:13unfurl or present themselves to you,
- 43:15may you remember that there is a center inside of yourself that is untouchable.
- 43:20May you remember that you are important to the unfolding of this world.
- 43:25May you remember that the way in which you care for your energy and you
- 43:30resource again in your own creativity is an essential nourishment to this
- 43:35world and may you remember that most important thing of all,
- 43:40why you're here.
