- 0:56Thank you. Now here are the hosts of the
- 1:00United We Scan podcast. Welcome back, everybody.
- 1:06Episode 62. It's still a rut no matter what.
- 1:12Ain't that the truth? I yeah.
- 1:17Many mail surveys started yesterday.
- 1:20It was my K day, My first K day that I did not have to work so.
- 1:28What are these? What are these words you speak
- 1:31of? That's what I'm wondering
- 1:32because I took an X day Thursday and Friday for well, to let my
- 1:40new sub get better acquainted with the route and get out on
- 1:43his own. And then Saturday K day today,
- 1:47Sunday, Yeah, I don't know what to do myself for four days.
- 1:49It's been a while. Other than having to fight for
- 1:53time off, It's a yeah, it's been a while.
- 1:57It was kind of nice. So I worked.
- 2:00I worked Tuesday, the day after holiday.
- 2:02In fact, I walked in the door in my Subs there.
- 2:04I'm like, what are you doing here?
- 2:06Yes. Oh, didn't I have to work today?
- 2:10I was like, no, I wasn't going to do that to you right away,
- 2:14though I did think about going home.
- 2:16But. I did not have blamed you.
- 2:22But I did not. And because our management
- 2:24doesn't show up till 8:00 and start time was 730, I just say,
- 2:30well, just go ahead and finish case of mail.
- 2:32And they were forced to let him, let him have his two hours
- 2:36before going home. So I let him case the mail and
- 2:42then I know then he, well, he started to go put up the DPSI,
- 2:46said no, no, no, no, no. And so we're not going to sit
- 2:48here all day putting up 7 trays of DPS.
- 2:51So I'm taking that to the street.
- 2:52He's like oh OK, so yeah. And then Wednesday he did the
- 2:58route and I showed him how to use the load truck feature as I
- 3:03was training the other last day of training the other new RCA.
- 3:09And then yeah, I took decided to go ahead and take Thursday off
- 3:12and Yep, that was my week. I go back tomorrow and then I'm
- 3:18training again for another three days and then I'm off for
- 3:20another three day weekend. I'm not complaining right now.
- 3:24It's nice to have a sub who's getting it and finding his own
- 3:27way. And yeah, I'm I'm not going to
- 3:32complain about that one bit. How was your?
- 3:36Yeah, yeah. 7 trays. That's kind of.
- 3:38Heavy. That's it.
- 3:40Yeah, yeah, For my route. That's actually kind of heavy
- 3:43anymore. Of course, I do remember five
- 3:46years ago it would have been 12 trays, you know, but.
- 3:51Yeah, I had 1011 trees, I think. Yeah, but you get that one
- 3:55business alone that just gets. I'm.
- 3:58I don't even count their mail. They had four by themselves.
- 4:02Gotcha. You got more boxes than I do
- 4:06though. This is true.
- 4:08I've got about almost almost 1000 boxes.
- 4:12Yeah. And I'm sitting combined at
- 4:16about just under 800 combined, so that would be why as well.
- 4:25But how was your week, Josh? It was pretty good.
- 4:29Tuesday was rough. Not as horrible as some holidays
- 4:37or day after holidays. It was a little rough.
- 4:45Trying to think if I I did work Wednesday this week it was like
- 4:50nothing. Thursday I was off again because
- 4:55of appointments for the kid. Friday was just another day and
- 5:01then yesterday started count. I'm sorry, the survey mini mail
- 5:05survey which I had a pretty hearing from other people a
- 5:10pretty fruitful day, had over 100 upside down letters, so
- 5:14that's 25. Random had 150 roll letters I
- 5:24pulled from the hot case, like 60 flats out of the out of the
- 5:30flat rack hot case. So supervisor printed the radar
- 5:37report for the first time since September.
- 5:41I had which was Friday's numbers, 760, some DPS letters
- 5:49and like 25140 cased letters. So I had a pretty decent start
- 5:59to the survey. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
- 6:04James, how was your week? Very short, you know, doing the
- 6:11drive back from SWAC was a lot of fun, 16 hour drive from there
- 6:17to here. But I made it safe and sound and
- 6:22had two days of work Thursday and Friday and didn't work
- 6:25yesterday for the mini mail survey.
- 6:28So I don't know how that went. I guess I'll find out on Monday
- 6:31when I see the paper from my sub.
- 6:34But Swack was a lot of fun with Bill and everybody that was
- 6:38there from the podcast that recognized us by our voice still
- 6:43not used to that, people recognizing us by our voice
- 6:46alone. I recognized the voice but not
- 6:48the face, was the common theme that I heard.
- 6:51Bill has probably a better story about that than I do, but Swack
- 6:56was a lot of fun and people were saying I wasn't the one called
- 7:02out for it. But it's kind of funny that the
- 7:04only person live posting was that I could find was myself.
- 7:09So I challenge anybody that thinks that there were live
- 7:11postings from the rest of them to send them to me.
- 7:15Show me that somebody else was live posting during the actual
- 7:18proceedings. Because getting called out on
- 7:21stage after a break was quite interesting.
- 7:24And then shortly after that, I think it was after lunch that I
- 7:28got actually cornered by our president about it.
- 7:32So it was just a fun time down there, good time with friends,
- 7:36good time with the group, and good time giving my speech.
- 7:40I enjoyed the responses from everybody and we'll be using
- 7:45them to further utilize into my next speech that I make, which
- 7:49is going to be mid states. So those of you who are coming
- 7:52to mid states have a good speech to look forward to at least from
- 7:55me and Bill. So how about you, Bill?
- 8:00How was your week? Oh, let's see.
- 8:03Started with missing the flight from Charlotte to Oklahoma City.
- 8:06I almost ended up in Jamaica, which wouldn't have been so bad.
- 8:11My personal chauffeur to pick me up at almost midnight at the one
- 8:17AM, 1:00 AM And that was. 2:00 AM Eastern.
- 8:22Yeah. So yeah it was a long day for
- 8:24me. Mid states was interesting.
- 8:26We'll we'll we'll get into that a little bit later on.
- 8:30Like James said it it was funny how people recognize us by our
- 8:34voices and the one gentleman came up what was his, what was
- 8:38his name? Tim and he says to me, he says I
- 8:44thought you'd be stouter like doubter, you know, he goes,
- 8:49yeah, I try to imagine you and I thought you would be stouter.
- 8:52I said, you know, sorry to disappoint you, I'm taller.
- 8:55But you know, we we had at least 40 plus people come up to us,
- 9:02you know, in regards to the podcast and the situations that
- 9:06are going on in SWAC, you know, which is what Texas, Oklahoma,
- 9:12Arkansas. Louisiana.
- 9:14Yep. And you know, it was a it, it
- 9:19was a nice conference. It it, it was, you know, a
- 9:22little bit on the smallish side if you're used to a full state's
- 9:26participation. But good attendance you know
- 9:31good atmosphere and some good information we got out of there.
- 9:39Then you know I came back. I, I spent an extra day out
- 9:42there came back couldn't find my car at the damn airport because
- 9:46my battery ran out of my car locator.
- 9:49So I had to have my son come get me so we could drive the parking
- 9:52lots in Philadelphia to find my car.
- 9:54But it was, it was a good trip on and on and and it was nice to
- 10:00have, you know be around, you know, with your friends and Co
- 10:03workers and you know, let me tell you, ladies and gentlemen,
- 10:07all these stories you hear about and that you read on Facebook
- 10:11and other social media sites, they're all true.
- 10:16Some of the things that we heard out there, you know, you just,
- 10:19you just look at, you know people and say you you got to be
- 10:22making that up. No, they're not.
- 10:24All this stuff you read about is absolutely true about how
- 10:29horrible it is in some office. And God bless you, the the ones
- 10:34who have good postmasters and supervisors because they're few
- 10:38and far between. So yeah, like I said, it was a
- 10:43good trip, good, good learning experience, got information
- 10:46gathering and it it was very, very nice to see all the people
- 10:51that we ran into and we were well received.
- 10:58Kristen, how was your week? I just did that first.
- 11:02It was short. I worked too.
- 11:04Yeah, but you're you're you're you have to follow up.
- 11:08That's. OK.
- 11:09All right. Finish it off.
- 11:10Finish it. Off Monday was the holiday.
- 11:13Tuesday I worked, Wednesday I trained, I took the next day,
- 11:15Thursday, and Friday actually had my K day yesterday.
- 11:20And if you all didn't notice, we put out a bonus episode on what
- 11:25was that Thursday night? Thursday night, Yoohoo.
- 11:29Uh, huh. With Mr. Corey Waltons.
- 11:31And. Future stuff with him.
- 11:34And I know a lot of people said about the audio, I listened back
- 11:38and heard the audio issues. We are trying to get that
- 11:40corrected as best we. Can and the episode before that
- 11:45I did put the right in the show notes that the audio was going
- 11:48to be. I apologize for it.
- 11:51It's just, you know, we had James on the road and Bill was
- 11:54in the hotel and yeah, it was just a lot of everything and I
- 12:00there wasn't much easy way of cleaning that up.
- 12:03That's, you know, like I said, I apologize for for last Sunday
- 12:07nights and Thursdays where hopefully we can get that
- 12:10remastered a little bit and get it updated.
- 12:13Yeah, Thursday was literally a last minute thing that we knew
- 12:19it was going to happen. We've been trying to get that to
- 12:22go together for what, almost a year at this point is when I
- 12:28first reached out to Corey to try and get him to come over and
- 12:32it's just our schedule or his schedule has been hectic.
- 12:38And when he said, Yep, give me 10 minutes, I know I let Kristen
- 12:42know. Oh, I asked Kristen if she was
- 12:44available. I reached out to him.
- 12:46He said give me at least 10 minutes and I let the rest of
- 12:49the guys know that we were going to do it.
- 12:53So, and we didn't get a chance to get out to our other editor
- 12:59to see if he was available, but apparently he would not have
- 13:04been because he was in the middle of something else.
- 13:08Yeah, but we will try and get that fixed if possible so the
- 13:14audio will be much better on it. Yeah, I think a lot of times I
- 13:20think when I'm doing the editing, I really need to turn
- 13:22the volume down on my earphones and then that way I can adjust
- 13:26the volume accordingly because it's I have the volume up all
- 13:31the way on my earphone, so I don't notice it as.
- 13:33We know that there have been a lot of posts on Facebook of
- 13:38people who are getting mixed answers from management.
- 13:44What they're supposed to be counting, what they're not
- 13:46supposed to be counting, what counts as this, what doesn't
- 13:49count as that, things like that. So what I wanted to do is I
- 13:54wanted to go over again the things you're supposed to be
- 13:59doing in the count for the mini mail survey, what is supposed to
- 14:03be counted, what you need to keep track of things like that.
- 14:08So the very, very first thing that I want to talk about on
- 14:12that is the DPS. Seen so many people asking
- 14:17questions on what is counted out of DPS and what is not.
- 14:23So I'm going to ask you guys give me your answer, each of
- 14:28what you think is counted out of the DPS and what is not.
- 14:33Start with you, Josh. I say anything in the DPS that
- 14:40you cannot deliver for any reason at the point of the DPS
- 14:46you're in. For example, you're at 123 Main
- 14:53and you have a letter for 276 Walnut, and that's not the next
- 15:01address that gets counted as Adps error.
- 15:06Bob Smith at 123 Main no longer lives there, so that's either
- 15:11UUTFANK or Ford that gets counted. 276.
- 15:19Walnut is a vacant address. You have mail for that address.
- 15:25It's not getting delivered because it's vacant.
- 15:28Regardless of if it's an Anka, Ford or UBBM.
- 15:37It is Adps error. You have mail in there that's
- 15:41not for your route or not for your station.
- 15:46The three M miss, sort miss sent miss sequence.
- 15:50It is a error in your DPSD PS:, is delivery point sequence,
- 15:56which means in the perfect world it is 100% in order.
- 16:04Nothing in that in those trays should be for any route other
- 16:12than yours, and it should be all deliverable.
- 16:17Bill or Kristen? Well, let's see.
- 16:21Let's start with the obvious ones.
- 16:24Let's take the inverted. OK, let's get the IA's
- 16:30insufficient address. Let's get the no such numbers.
- 16:33Let's get the FO ES slash UTF. Let's get.
- 16:38You know everything and anything that doesn't belong in the line
- 16:43of progression of your DPS, Pull it out.
- 16:46Pull your holds out. That gets counted, OK?
- 16:49Everything that you don't deliver in sequence along the
- 16:54line of travel gets pulled out. Now one of the things that you
- 16:59know I always suggest for carrier discretion is that you
- 17:05pull those items out, you have them counted and then you leave
- 17:09them rubber band with a little tab note on there for the end of
- 17:15day so that you can actually disperse them for end of shift
- 17:18duty. That's what I suggest you do.
- 17:22I'm not recommending it, I'm just just same thing with the
- 17:26flats. If if it's not yours, bang.
- 17:31You know folks, when they miss throw parcels, I scan a miss
- 17:35thrown parcel because you put it in my hamper and I have to
- 17:40handle it. I'm getting credit for it.
- 17:44Everything and anything that's not in DPS order for your line
- 17:47of travel gets pulled out. If it's inverted, pull it out.
- 17:51If it's holds, then you know, I mean if you don't have at least
- 17:57100 a day, there's something wrong with with your DPS because
- 18:02nothing, it doesn't come perfectly anymore.
- 18:04At all. Ever.
- 18:09Yeah, but these two weeks we'll see some clean DPS maybe.
- 18:15I I didn't pull anything. I I had permission to go in
- 18:20yesterday morning just to explain.
- 18:23I showed my RCA the sheet. I showed him what he was looking
- 18:26for. I just kind of flipped through
- 18:28the DPS really quick, just so I had a rough idea on what I had
- 18:33in there. That way I can make compared to
- 18:35what he counted to what I counted just to see if he was on
- 18:38his game. I let him do all that.
- 18:41I just kind of did a quick little glance through and then
- 18:44well, here's your DPS. And he actually is starting to
- 18:49take it to the street rather than casing it from what he told
- 18:51me. So I think he's realizing it's a
- 18:55little quicker of getting out of our office and not having to
- 18:58deal with the boss. She approached him and told him
- 19:03she'd be more than happy to retrain him.
- 19:05He said, Nah, I'm good, there you go.
- 19:10But, but so now I'll, I'll, I'll see you tomorrow when I get
- 19:14there, you know. And I was actually kind of good
- 19:17glad I did go in because the other RCA that was working, the
- 19:22kid, he had no clue either what was going on.
- 19:24So I told him I showed him, I said you take your DPS to the
- 19:27street. He's like, yeah, I showed him my
- 19:29tap counter app on my phone that I use during the mini mail
- 19:34survey because I do take my DPS to the street.
- 19:36So when I'm out there and I have my inverted, I just hit on my
- 19:39tap counter. And then, you know, when I get
- 19:42back to the office at the end of the day, I just divide that
- 19:44number by 4 for my inverted count.
- 19:47But, you know, so I just kind of showed him that he's like, oh
- 19:52OK, cool. I just described, I said guys
- 19:54you said don't pull any of the raw mail till it's been counted.
- 19:58You know you can touch the pre sorted, that's fine.
- 20:00It's just giving them the idea you know letting them know what
- 20:03they were looking for and what they were doing when they got
- 20:05back. As to how to handle this stuff,
- 20:10oh they think, they both seem to understand.
- 20:12So they said I'll see when I get there tomorrow.
- 20:15Oh that's that's a good thing. I do.
- 20:17I did want to add we're you guys usually take your man out of the
- 20:23street. I case it.
- 20:24It doesn't matter if you case it or take it to the street.
- 20:28You get the same credit for that DP for those DPS errors.
- 20:34You know they like to you know a lot of people take it to the
- 20:38street because they want to get out of the office earlier.
- 20:41Personally, I'd rather work work it all in the climate control,
- 20:45but that's just a personal choice, yeah.
- 20:49Casing in that case, take it to the street, for the most part,
- 20:52is a personal choice. I like to get out of the office
- 20:56to get on my route, but I also am just as quick with not casing
- 21:01my DPS and working it as a street as as if as if I had to
- 21:05case it and then work it back down.
- 21:08And yeah, I just skipped that stuff.
- 21:09But like I said, I've gotten accustomed to it over the years,
- 21:12but I'm just as quick out on the street, not casing it anymore.
- 21:17It's personally I think it takes me a lot longer, at least 1 1/2
- 21:20times longer working the DPS on the street than it does casing
- 21:25it, but I don't do it unless I absolutely have to.
- 21:31Yeah, my route gets a ton of junk too.
- 21:33So it's, you know, I I said I'm used to it.
- 21:37When you're a newbie, you know, he does really good.
- 21:39If he cases it up, he gets out on the street.
- 21:41You know, he's just bam, bam, bam, bam, bam.
- 21:44But I think he's really trying to get out of the office, 'cause
- 21:47I guess the boss should say something to him about what time
- 21:50he should be out of the office by.
- 21:52And I was like, well, technically, yeah, you should be
- 21:54out. If you can get out between 10:00
- 21:55and 10:30, you're doing all right.
- 21:57Once you hit 11:00, you're at the point of no return.
- 22:00It's hard to make up time on that route if you don't, if you
- 22:03get out of the office after 11:00.
- 22:05So, Oh no, he's he's doing good for, you know, being a weekend
- 22:11on his own, so. Or you can pull a bill and say
- 22:14I'll be glad to leave now if you want.
- 22:19All right. But I will tell you, when I
- 22:22walked in Tuesday morning and he was in their case and I'm like,
- 22:24what are you doing here? And oh, I don't work.
- 22:27No, I was really tempted to be like, yeah, go ahead and take
- 22:30it. But then he, he was actually
- 22:32glad at the end of the day that I didn't do that to him just
- 22:35because I ended up with 215 parcels that day and I didn't
- 22:40get back until 6:30. So I was like, see, you know,
- 22:43not we all have these days. Is it No big deal to me?
- 22:50How about you, James? Do you want to add anything to
- 22:52that? You guys covered most of it, but
- 22:58the one that I did not hear any of you actually say was
- 23:02apartment mailings that don't have an apartment number on
- 23:06them. Insufficient address.
- 23:08Yeah. Bill said IA.
- 23:09Well, besides insufficient address, because I know a lot of
- 23:13people, when they take the DPS to the street especially, will
- 23:17look at the name and throw it in the right slot.
- 23:19Those should also be counted for your random letters, your DPS
- 23:25errors, whatever you wish to call them.
- 23:28The rest of the stuff you guys covered pretty well on that.
- 23:32So the next part I want to go on to is unscannable parcels.
- 23:41A big contention. Some management wants carriers
- 23:43to stop everything they're doing and bring all their, quote, UN
- 23:46quote unscannable parcels to the management for them to decide
- 23:50what is or is not. They want carriers to not mark
- 23:55them as unscannable parcels, even though we have no
- 23:58definition of what an obvious parcel is.
- 24:00But I want to get your guys's take on what's going on with
- 24:05that. I don't have that issue in my
- 24:08office. Honestly.
- 24:10I thankfully we don't have that unscanable parcel issue in my
- 24:13office at all. I mean, if so, you know, I
- 24:18really can't say. Luckily we're not micromanaged
- 24:23on that part. You know if obviously if it's a
- 24:25parcel, it's a parcel whether it has a scan code on it or not for
- 24:29me. I as far as I know, in my
- 24:33station there is not an issue. I can tell you they personally
- 24:37have not said anything to me about what I scan is
- 24:41unscannable. No one.
- 24:44None of the other carriers have mentioned anything to me about
- 24:47them say, you know, being told something.
- 24:50So I'm presuming at least in my station I can't speak for the
- 24:54whole office, but in my station that's not not an issue.
- 24:58Well. I guess that leaves me.
- 25:00Yeah, it does. In my office we have a, I'll say
- 25:08a limit, OK, that of 6 unscanned parcels per day.
- 25:16Now at WAC we ran into a gentleman who had 39 unscanned
- 25:21parcels in one day and was called into the office and he
- 25:25gave a detailed explanation of what the ants unscanned parcels
- 25:28were. Several of them were diplomas.
- 25:30A lot of them were the Snapfish photos.
- 25:33And you know, he elaborated on and on what you know all 39
- 25:38were. If you can't fit it into your
- 25:40case without manipulating it like a flat or a letter, OK, and
- 25:46it sticks out to me. That's carrier discretion and
- 25:50it's an unscanned parcel. If I have to manipulate it to
- 25:54get it in the mailbox, or if I have to take it to the door
- 25:57because it won't fit in the mailbox without being damaged,
- 26:00that's an unscanned parcel and I document that on my 4240 every
- 26:04day. So it's one of those things
- 26:08where carrier discretion is the thought of the moment.
- 26:16Not that you get away with it, but can you justify it?
- 26:20And you say in all honesty that this should be a parcel and I
- 26:25see where somebody says the thick Ass U line?
- 26:29Well, a lot of people will tell you no, EU lines don't count.
- 26:32But if U lines don't fit into the case with the mail, that
- 26:37should be an unscanned parcel. And they have several sizes of
- 26:41EU line. So you know, the, the you're
- 26:44you're you're dancing on thin ice there.
- 26:46But if you're getting this standard one inch U line and you
- 26:50have a one inch separation, somebody tell me how you're
- 26:53getting the mail in there. With the flats and EU line it
- 26:57becomes a unscanned parcel for me and I'll document that on my
- 27:0040 to 40. I get, well, I've got my one
- 27:05person on my route that gets, you know, three to four to five
- 27:09inches of mail a day. Yes, I am not exaggerating.
- 27:14And what? And then he tends to get at
- 27:16least once or twice a month from whatever charities trying to get
- 27:20money he gets. Like the tubes.
- 27:24Yeah, that got something rolled up in them or the triangular
- 27:27ones and it's just, you know, it's just pre sorted standard
- 27:31stuff. But it's a parcel, it's not
- 27:33going to fit in the case obviously and you handle it just
- 27:38like a parcel. So yeah, those are unscannable
- 27:40parcels. I've got you know churches that
- 27:44get their their guideposts or whatever sent to them that is
- 27:51metered that and it's in a big but heavy box that's an
- 27:55unscanned parcel. You know crossword puzzle
- 27:58players that order by the case is metered mail for the most
- 28:02most of them that are sent that I've seen, that's an unscanned
- 28:07parcel. And and I I do, I do like the
- 28:13fact that management turns around and says, well, it
- 28:16depends on the amount of posts paid.
- 28:19No, it doesn't. I I have a coin vendor out of
- 28:26Rhode Island I believe that sends to 1 customer of my route
- 28:30all the time. He sends it pre sorted standard
- 28:34but on the front of it and the back in three inch big letters
- 28:38says do not bend because it's a collectible coin in the acetate
- 28:47sheet to be inserted into a book where you collect the coin and
- 28:50if you bend that up that customer will call the post
- 28:53office and ring. Yes, yes.
- 28:56Yes, they will. Brand new so oh.
- 29:02Yes, they will. Guess what?
- 29:04Personal experience. Customer service Unscanned
- 29:06parcel. It it goes to, you know, the
- 29:08closest point of delivery. You know, free matter for the
- 29:12blind and deaf. I've got one house that gets the
- 29:16big boxes, you know, two to three of them.
- 29:19They, they get them for one for each kid.
- 29:22And you know, they're big size boxes.
- 29:26Yeah, that's an unscalable parcel.
- 29:28If I have to, especially if I have to deliver that to the door
- 29:31because it doesn't fit in a mailbox, you know, there is some
- 29:36pretty obvious ones out there. And don't forget the media
- 29:41shipping too. People get discounted, you know,
- 29:44shipping for, you know, media. So therefore you know you can
- 29:48have a an entire catalog system or a book.
- 29:51You know anything and you know they're paying dirt cheap rates
- 29:55on it. And you still got to take that
- 29:57up to the door because of the fact it's not fitting in the
- 30:00mailbox. Yep, Yep.
- 30:04Yeah. I mean there are some really
- 30:07good ones out there that are unscannable parcels and I'll you
- 30:11know be going through the bend and even with the other Subs I
- 30:13train and help them out and be like, hey look, unscannable
- 30:17parcel. And if I, you know, when I'm
- 30:19training and I'm finding one, you know, I'll put a little
- 30:22sticky note on it so they know what to do when they go to
- 30:25deliver it. I love the comments the coconuts
- 30:30because my son went to Hawaii with his wife and mailed me a
- 30:34coconut. Yes, that's an unscannable
- 30:38parcel. Oh oh, that is so true.
- 30:46Yeah. So there are some, you know,
- 30:50unscannable parcels that are obvious parcels.
- 30:52I think it's always been the biggest thing has been the ones
- 30:55that are questionable. And and again, it's carrier
- 30:59discretion, you know. Absolutely, Until something is
- 31:03black and white and concrete on that.
- 31:05That is carrier discretion. Well, it really can be at this
- 31:11point. What's another good one, James?
- 31:17Got some? Authorized Dismounts.
- 31:19Oh yeah, authorized. Dismounts.
- 31:22People are arguing about when do you actually input authorized
- 31:26dismounts because is it the first time?
- 31:29Is it the second time? How many trips can you do and
- 31:34how do you deal with that kind of stuff?
- 31:37So we'll go with that now. Authorized.
- 31:41Dismounts if it takes me. I would say if it takes me more
- 31:48than one time from the truck to my delivery point as an
- 31:52authorized dismount entry open. For example when I didn't have
- 31:59my hand truck at my apartments where I usually can put
- 32:03everything on the on the cart and roll it over.
- 32:06So now I have to take each tub one at a time.
- 32:11That's 234 trips. So that's authorized dismount 2,
- 32:17three, four times. Yeah, I luckily don't have.
- 32:25I don't think I've ever had any extra authorized dismounts on my
- 32:28route yet, even with like I said over all my CB US only to
- 32:38different setups. Do I actually have to dismount
- 32:40the truck to service the CB US And they don't get a ton of mail
- 32:44anyways. And all the parcels because they
- 32:46don't have CB US, all the parcels go to the door.
- 32:50So yeah, my and my even with all my hardships, they don't have
- 32:53enough for more than one trip. Maybe once in a great while will
- 32:58they order, You know, quite a few packages that require more
- 33:01than one trip, but in general they don't, so that's not one
- 33:06that I have experience with, so to say, on my route.
- 33:12So you have the CB US, you have businesses, you have schools,
- 33:16You have some gated communities where you're required to
- 33:19dismount for a key code or such because you're on the wrong side
- 33:23of the vehicle. Hardship cases that you know are
- 33:27authorized and you know they're in your system and you know make
- 33:32sure they are because of the fact that you won't be getting
- 33:35credit even though you're doing a service per SE to the
- 33:39customer. And anything above, over and
- 33:43above 1 discount per CBU because my CB US are all offset 8 feet
- 33:50from the curb. And they have multiple parcel
- 33:55locker too of which not all parcels will fit in there which
- 33:59and they'll go to the door, but the ones that do I have to make
- 34:02several trips just for this. The packages and spurs that go
- 34:06in there and won't fit into you know the I guess they're about
- 34:10an inch and a half three quarter high shelves, shelves that are
- 34:14you know in the CB US I have some of the newer ones that have
- 34:18the flat shelving in there instead of the square box.
- 34:21So make sure you get all that in there.
- 34:29Same for trip to door. Yes, same with trip to door.
- 34:33Because like I have one on my route that lately has been
- 34:38getting a ton of packages. They're planning for a wedding,
- 34:42getting all the stuff in for the wedding.
- 34:45So every day practically I'm going there with three to 25
- 34:49pack packages, and sometimes I have to take 234 trips.
- 34:58If it only takes one, I don't put it in.
- 35:00But if it takes more than one, I do trip the door because that
- 35:04gives you the credit for the extra walking you've been doing
- 35:07to deliver those parcels to the door.
- 35:10You have to make sure that you count them and you put them in.
- 35:14I forgot one day and I had four trips that day.
- 35:16It really made me mad. But you got to make sure that
- 35:21you are tracking everything that you do because that's how you
- 35:25get paid. If you're not tracking what you
- 35:27do, you're not getting paid for it.
- 35:31And door Miscellaneous is only used for hold mail or if you
- 35:38have to go to the door for any other reason other than a scan.
- 35:45So if you have to go to the door to pick up parcels, I do Door
- 35:51Miscellaneous because that then records that I went to the door
- 35:55to pick up those parcels instead of picking them up at the
- 35:58mailbox, things like that. You guys agree?
- 36:05I'm going to say I use, I use trip to door for parcel pick up
- 36:09at the door. You know for carrier pick up,
- 36:15I'll do the carrier pick up process and then do trip to door
- 36:18one for that. Well, I don't do that with.
- 36:24I have several customers that will put in the parcel pick up
- 36:29into the system. When you have the the sheet with
- 36:32you, would you scan the barcode on certain times they don't put
- 36:37that sheet in that request in so you have no barcode but you can
- 36:41still enter carrier pick up without the sheet and it'll
- 36:46prompt you through there. OK, door miscellaneous.
- 36:51It could seem like you're double dipping.
- 36:53If you do that and you're you're doing a a parcel pick up because
- 37:01you're basically getting the parcel pick up credit and if
- 37:06it's in the system like a customer leaves it in the
- 37:10mailbox a note saying please pick up a parcel at the door
- 37:13then I would agree with that. But more times than not if
- 37:17you're going to the door for any any other reason for door
- 37:20miscellaneous like hold mail or an unscannable parcel or what
- 37:24you know, I you know, I I try to stay off of the door
- 37:27miscellaneous not for unscannable parcels but for you
- 37:30know door miscellaneous. I stay off of that except for
- 37:34the extreme issue of you know, the mailbox is full and I'll
- 37:39bring it up there and give you know bring it to their attention
- 37:42and all that. I have one customer who has a
- 37:45Half Moon driveway and they're restricted to a wheelchair.
- 37:48So I have an authorized door miscellaneous every day at that
- 37:52address, but I wouldn't use that, you know, in any other
- 37:58case for myself. That's just my personal opinion.
- 38:02It's nothing written in stone, It's just that, you know, it
- 38:05doesn't have a scan. I'm not doing using door
- 38:09miscellaneous. Strip the door.
- 38:11That's, you know, for picking up stuff with the scan.
- 38:15Yeah, door miscellaneous stuff without scan.
- 38:17I use a door miscellaneous. I have a few my CBU condos that
- 38:23are the old CB US, the little square boxes and no parcel
- 38:28lockers and you know when they get their kids school photos
- 38:32just in the regular life touch envelope, you know that type of
- 38:36stuff. When I as a courtesy will take
- 38:38that to dorks I'm not going to bend their kids pictures up
- 38:41obviously and I'll I'll door miscellaneous that outside of
- 38:45that if it's for a pickup and it requires me more than one trip
- 38:50for that pick up because I'll scan that sheet right at the
- 38:53door where it says pick up at porch.
- 38:54I'm scanning that sheet at the porch.
- 38:57Only if it's more than one trip do I put in an additional trip
- 39:01to door for that. But when it comes to my people
- 39:05who like ordering their three mattresses at a time along with
- 39:08six other large boxes you know that stuff.
- 39:12Yeah, I my trip to doors are definitely on top of that with
- 39:18my ordering ones that are order the big stuff all the time.
- 39:26Well, my one, my one business in the industrial park, I know for
- 39:31a fact Monday, 'cause they they're closed on Saturdays.
- 39:34They had six very large heavy packages waiting for Monday to
- 39:38go out. So plus whatever else they get
- 39:40in on Monday. Yeah, that's probably one of my
- 39:43biggest ones right? There is 3-4 trips in the land
- 39:46receiving dock door with their stuff, but yeah.
- 39:55Christy, you were saying that with the package pick up and
- 40:00Bill with the you get the the sheet of paper the print out.
- 40:04Yeah, saying there's a pick up at.
- 40:07I say even if I have that sheet, I'm still going to put that trip
- 40:12door in because it even though it says it's at.
- 40:15The front door porch. I don't know that the system's
- 40:19giving me credit other than the actual pickup.
- 40:26Regardless of where you're picking it up, right, Yeah.
- 40:29Exactly. It could be on the porch.
- 40:31They they could meet me halfway. That falls underneath carrier
- 40:38discretion. Exactly.
- 40:45Everything you do that is flexible in regards to picking
- 40:50it up from halfway down the driveway at the at the garage at
- 40:54the front door. Ladies and gentlemen, that's
- 40:58carrier discretion on how you want to enter it.
- 41:01But be ready to answer that question when they when they
- 41:04confront you about it, OK? And you better be positive and
- 41:08you better be forthright in regards why you're doing it now.
- 41:12They can test it later and you you can contest their
- 41:15contestation, but you know, protect yourself in regards to
- 41:21how you do things and be able to justify it.
- 41:27Exactly. You know, definitely carry your
- 41:30discretion on anything, but make sure you're ready to answer it
- 41:33if your questions about it. Luckily we don't get question
- 41:37about it in my office. Yes.
- 41:41And then the last bit of contention that we've had in in
- 41:46scans, even though I'm sure there's been more for the rest
- 41:50of them, was out to lunch, the out to lunch scan.
- 41:58And management is telling them not only that they have to go
- 42:03out to lunch to go to the bathroom, but also that they
- 42:08cannot deviate from their route to go to the bathroom.
- 42:14Discuss. My.
- 42:21Bathroom breaks are not out to lunch.
- 42:27Now if you live on your row and you stop at home to use the
- 42:30bathroom and that's all you do, you do not need to clock out.
- 42:35If you stop at home and go to the bathroom, then make yourself
- 42:38a sandwich before heading back out, then yes, you would take a
- 42:41lunch break for anything outside of going to the restroom.
- 42:47Going to the restroom is not an is is not a lunch break.
- 42:53Even if you have to deviate to use just the restroom.
- 42:59You do not have to clock out for lunch break.
- 43:02Not everybody has a place that they can go on their route.
- 43:07You know, I'm lucky enough. I have a Township hall and every
- 43:13fast food restaurant in town and all the gas stations in town,
- 43:17and I drive past the post office from one end to the other, plus
- 43:22several bars. So I mean, I have places I could
- 43:26stop if need be, but you know, not everybody has that.
- 43:31I've worked many routes that that there really isn't any
- 43:35place to stop and there's not even a thick of trees that you
- 43:38could go find a place to go use behind a tree somewhere.
- 43:41Not everybody has that. So yeah, there are times when
- 43:44you're going to have to deviate and just.
- 43:48Yeah. And another one that I've seen,
- 43:51it was even as far as taking a sip of water.
- 43:54I'm sorry I'm not clocking out to lunch to take it when I take
- 43:59a drink of anything, because normally I am still working.
- 44:02When I take a drink of something I don't, I don't get it.
- 44:10I don't get it at all. Don't forget, federal law says
- 44:16that they have to allow you restroom breaks while on the job
- 44:22and you don't have to punch out to break for them.
- 44:27In fact, Amazon has gotten in trouble for not allowing people
- 44:33to go to the bathroom on the line.
- 44:37I have seen them get in trouble for carriers having to go to the
- 44:44bathroom in a pop bottle because they won't let them leave their
- 44:49route to go to the bathroom. The same thing with your
- 44:55drinking of water to punch out. Didn't they just start making us
- 45:00all watch the heat illness prevention training where it
- 45:04says stay hydrated and they're telling us now to punch out to
- 45:08hydrate like they tell us to in our training?
- 45:13I don't think so. Now, if they're stopping and
- 45:19eating food, you know, taking a break and eating food, that is a
- 45:23lunch. Now, if you're eating while
- 45:27driving, which is dangerous but allowed, that's not a punch
- 45:34audible thing because you're continuing to do your route
- 45:36while doing so. But if you're stopped parked,
- 45:42parking brakes, set wheels curbed and eating lunch, you
- 45:48have to go out to lunch for that.
- 45:51And it's the same for smoke breaks.
- 45:55It's a contentious issue in a lot of places, but you should be
- 45:58on a break when you go out for smoke.
- 46:01And even that includes when you're still in the office or
- 46:06out on the route you should be clocked out for.
- 46:09You should be clocked out for smoke breaks.
- 46:14And ladies and gentlemen, don't ever let anybody in management
- 46:19tell you you have to clock out to go to the bathroom in the
- 46:22office. It's not allowed.
- 46:26You're you are totally free to go to the bathroom without
- 46:30clocking out for lunch and. That's.
- 46:34And. That's included in your wash up
- 46:36time when you come back from the route at end of shift duties.
- 46:40You're right. Now I I seem to remember, and
- 46:43somebody correct me if I'm wrong, you are allowed up to 1/2
- 46:47mile deviation off your route without prior authorization for
- 46:52you know, you know, the stop for lunch or to visit the restroom
- 46:57facility. Is that still correct?
- 47:00I believe, I'll say you have to have prior authorization.
- 47:03There's wording on both sides of it, so carrier discretion.
- 47:09Yes. Well, here's the thing.
- 47:12In the past we had a carrier who would deviate off the route at
- 47:19his particular spot on the route and customer called about it
- 47:26because the worker. So the supervisor at the time
- 47:31wanted to all jump his crap and he got it cleared up because
- 47:37number one, he said I'm on a water pill.
- 47:40There is not a place to go on that route without having to
- 47:44deviate slightly off the route and in into the trees, into, you
- 47:49know, where there's in a wooded area because that's all I'm
- 47:53doing is relieving myself halfway through the route.
- 47:56And after that they they couldn't touch him and it wasn't
- 48:01even that far, honestly, maybe 1/4 of a mile back off of the
- 48:05main road. So yeah, you know, they don't
- 48:11want to. If you got to use the restroom,
- 48:13you got to use the restroom. I know of another one that
- 48:16management was getting on him because he was, you know, not
- 48:21even a quarter of a mile off the route.
- 48:23It was like literally just meters away from his turn around
- 48:28spot to use the restroom and they wanted to go off because he
- 48:32deviated off of the route. No, it's perfectly acceptable
- 48:35when using the restroom. So yeah, I don't know.
- 48:42It's, I would fight that one every tooth and nail.
- 48:46When you got to go, you got to go.
- 48:48And it's not a clock out and you got to go where there's some
- 48:51place safe for you to go. Regardless if that's a thicket
- 48:54of trees or back to the office or your local Township hall,
- 48:59VFW, American Legion lounge bar, whatever that's open that you
- 49:06can thankfully use their restroom fast food joint though.
- 49:09That's what you do. Your mother in law's house, your
- 49:13your Co worker's house, whatever you know.
- 49:17Isn't it ironic that they want to micromanage our time?
- 49:21You know, so badly? But yet they can't do something
- 49:26as simple as get your time sheets entered on a daily basis?
- 49:31They can't get the radar reports up.
- 49:32You know, micromanage yourself before you try micromanaging the
- 49:37office, OK? When you learn to do your job
- 49:40properly every day, day in and day out, then come over and talk
- 49:45to me. Until then, shut the front door.
- 49:52Yeah, and don't forget the ones that want to micromanage can't
- 49:56even get their carriers paid on time.
- 50:00Oh, I know. Oh wait, we've got a, we've got
- 50:02a step four. They put in on that, right?
- 50:05Yeah, they got the step 4IN on that.
- 50:06So we have the one in 2018. They still have to solve, but
- 50:11we'll get to that one in about 5 years.
- 50:13But you still see every week where there's carriers that got
- 50:17a zero paycheck. Every freaking pay period.
- 50:23How? Why?
- 50:25I mean, it's just atrocious. It's either number one,
- 50:30management not doing their job, which is the number one reason,
- 50:35or, you know, it's the outdated systems that and even my
- 50:40supervisor's like, I don't understand why we have to put it
- 50:43in your system and then your system transfers it to tax.
- 50:45Why can't we just enter your stuff into tax?
- 50:50Because that would make sense. I wouldn't have though.
- 50:55When has anything that management has done made sense?
- 50:59That's right. It's federal government.
- 51:01If it makes sense, they do the opposite first.
- 51:02I was just going to say I'm going to throw 2 words out at
- 51:06you, Military intelligence. Yeah.
- 51:13And what I don't understand is why they keep trying to
- 51:16micromanage us to be more like the city instead of the other
- 51:21way around, trying to make city more like us because.
- 51:25They tried that. They tried that, Josh.
- 51:29They're trying right now, they. They rejected that real quick.
- 51:35Yeah. They're trying that again now
- 51:36they've got, they've got their new evaluation system for city
- 51:40carriers and city carrier routes that they're running with.
- 51:43I mean you heard Corey talk about it on from 8 arbitration
- 51:47that they're they're evaluating their yeah wrecks, they're
- 51:51getting wrecks. But it's it's a better version
- 51:55of wrecks than the 1:00 we have, and there's their documentation
- 51:58on it is less redacted than ours, which is quite amazing to
- 52:03think about. Yeah, there's not much to read
- 52:06in ours, that's for sure. Yeah, well, I mean, unless you
- 52:11can read black, because that's most of the pages.
- 52:15You can read the the report title and then the half of the
- 52:19signatures. Yeah, and not.
- 52:22Not to mention that you can you can read the definition of Rex,
- 52:27but anything that pertains to how they calculate it, how it
- 52:30gets put together, what programs are used for it, how they came
- 52:34up with these formulas and all that stuff is behind black bars
- 52:39because they think that it's a national security issue to know
- 52:44how carrier routes are evaluated.
- 52:48How? They still don't even know how
- 52:50to evaluate us properly. So what's the big secret?
- 52:53It ain't working. You still have issues with CBU
- 52:58routes, you still have major issues with the parent child
- 53:02routes, you have issues across the board with almost everything
- 53:06of one nature or another. And not to mention the fact that
- 53:11we cannot verify in a timely manner our numbers without
- 53:17counting every single pre sorted bundle piece that we get and
- 53:23then waiting for a radar report to catch up to figure out.
- 53:26Oh yeah, that was that days, if it's even right, there's we.
- 53:31We still can't verify our numbers completely.
- 53:35It's ridiculous. Kristen, Kristen, I take offense
- 53:39to the fact that you're assuming that all of the bundles are
- 53:45coming in on the same day's radar report.
- 53:48I'm not saying that, I said. And then having to wait until
- 53:52the radar report catches up, or I did not say you're coming in
- 53:57on the same day, I said. You're having to keep track of
- 54:01and then wait until you can find the day that it comes in on and
- 54:05then hopefully it's right then and hope 'cause there's no way
- 54:08to know for sure. And and don't forget, ladies and
- 54:12gentlemen, in September 2022, Ronnie Stutz put off the mini
- 54:16Mail survey because there was still no transparency of the rec
- 54:23system. And yet we went ahead and did it
- 54:26that spring, the following spring with no transparency.
- 54:31I I don't know why we are even negotiating with the post office
- 54:36until they get this cleared up, until these engineers are held
- 54:39accountable for the hundreds of thousands of dollars they've
- 54:42been paid for a system that right now they're going to tell
- 54:47us they're going to make adjustments in April and become
- 54:49effective in May. I'm sorry, Yeah, I I I'm not
- 54:54buying it. My question is why?
- 54:58I mean, I get why they're waiting till after this next
- 55:02mini mail survey, but at the same time, it's still not going
- 55:09to be, it's still going to be another full year after they
- 55:13make adjustments before that route.
- 55:15It has its actual evaluation. Am I right?
- 55:21Yeah. Or or.
- 55:22Or the fact that every six months your paycheck's going to
- 55:25change. Potentially, yes.
- 55:28Yeah. Oh, let's let's throw this.
- 55:31Let's throw this in the mix. What What scares me the most
- 55:34about victory adjustments, Josh. Hold on, Josh, What's even worse
- 55:42about this is all these carriers that are being pulled into these
- 55:46S&D fees who are going to spend at least a year on the
- 55:52evaluations out of their old office before their evaluations
- 55:56even reach what their evaluations are going to be at
- 55:59the SNDC. Yeah.
- 56:08And I've I've talked to a few carriers that have already moved
- 56:11to an SNDC, some of them are having to drive 15/20/30 or 45
- 56:18minutes to their route that they're not going to be paid for
- 56:25for almost a year. Now supposedly they were going
- 56:30to be adjusting that that mileage thing was already when
- 56:34they go over there, but I I I don't know.
- 56:37I don't hold a grain of salt to that one bet.
- 56:43No clue. I have AI have a friend of mine
- 56:46who just started their first day at the new SN at their new SNDC
- 56:50was this past Saturday. She she's going to try and get
- 56:54the gumption to join us and tell us how it's going.
- 56:59But yeah, you know it. It's it's just crazy.
- 57:03But when you're having to drive that and that, and not to
- 57:06mention not only that, not only you having to drive that extra
- 57:09further distance to your routes, but then you got to think of
- 57:12that extra further distance to drive into work and driving home
- 57:16to work, plus that additional round trip during your route
- 57:19that makes some really long days.
- 57:23It does. And hopefully because it's
- 57:27mileage factor, they'll be able to incorporate it quickly that
- 57:32there shouldn't be any adjustment in regards to, you
- 57:35know, waiting a year for the full adjustment to your route
- 57:40because mileage can can be, you know, computed quickly, should
- 57:45be able to. I'm saying should be.
- 57:47I'm not saying it will be, but it should be, you know, an
- 57:50automatic adjustment. Yeah.
- 57:54But this is the post office. Exactly, yeah.
- 57:58They'll probably, they'll probably milk the shorter
- 57:59mileage up until they actually get to the full evaluation in in
- 58:04a year. Because we've known that as long
- 58:07as carriers aren't paid what they're working or aren't paid
- 58:11at all, the post office wins in that situation.
- 58:15Because even if we grieve it, they're just going to settle for
- 58:19language, pay the carrier and call it good.
- 58:22That's it. There's going to be no incentive
- 58:28for management to fix it because they don't add a financial
- 58:33incentive for them to do it. OK, and now I have an update
- 58:38from my friend who just started at the SMDC yesterday.
- 58:41They did add mileage into their route evals and it started on
- 58:45the first day. She gained 4 hours just in
- 58:48mileage and traffic control points.
- 58:51Good 4. Hours.
- 58:52Good. Four hours.
- 58:58And that's what's going to save them money, James, from sending
- 59:01a truck to the old Office 1 carrier. 4 hours.
- 59:06You know you you can't make this shit up.
- 59:09You really can't. That's 20 minutes each way added
- 59:14to her route each day. Yep, Yep.
- 59:22Added four hours to her route. What she's happy about, don't
- 59:25get me wrong, but. She.
- 59:28Got screwed on those first, Yep. Plus the extra fuel currently at
- 59:3710 miles to the gallon in an LLV.
- 59:40You getting 10 miles? Mr. Johnson, it's 4 hours in
- 59:44mileage and traffic control points.
- 59:47Combination of both, not just traffic control points.
- 59:51That's why I said 20 minutes per day.
- 59:56Yeah. What I was going to say was what
- 1:00:00scares me about what I'm doing the adjustments in the next
- 1:00:03couple months is. It's not going to be a team.
- 1:00:07These teams are going to teach local management how to do the
- 1:00:11adjustments. So local management's the one
- 1:00:14that's actually going to do the cuts.
- 1:00:18That's scary and if you if you have a good manager, they'll sit
- 1:00:22down with you and and work out what can be cut from your route.
- 1:00:26To the benefit of the office, of course, but hopefully in a way
- 1:00:30that benefits both the carrier and the route if you have good
- 1:00:33management. If you have bad management,
- 1:00:34they'll just turn around and take a pair of scissors to your
- 1:00:37route and figure out what they want to cut off of there.
- 1:00:40Yeah, I mean if if our one, our biggest route in our office, it
- 1:00:47went down to a 46 this last time.
- 1:00:50But if it was to go back up to a 40 or 7 or 48, she's looking at
- 1:00:54the possibility of getting cut and you know it with that route,
- 1:01:00especially taking I think the carrier's word on where to cut
- 1:01:05would be good because that's not a route that you can just whack
- 1:01:08up. There is no additional route you
- 1:01:10can put that on because it's its own zip code.
- 1:01:13You know you would have to create another aux route off of
- 1:01:15it. So you know.
- 1:01:22The question is, is he going to be high enough to make an aux
- 1:01:27route? Which was part of the problem of
- 1:01:31why I didn't get cut before Rex started is because I didn't have
- 1:01:38enough for them to cut off to create an aux route, and there
- 1:01:44wasn't really anywhere else to put it without me taking more
- 1:01:49away from me and giving me a little bit from one of the
- 1:01:51other. Routes note Note to the editor
- 1:01:56Please cut where Josh says he didn't have enough to cut off.
- 1:02:10Bad joke, bad joke. If you're a 46, KS are not
- 1:02:17considered overburdened. 4740 eights are considered
- 1:02:21overburdened, 46 or not. So if you're still a 46, you're
- 1:02:25still safe for now. For now I am currently at 45, so
- 1:02:33we'll see. Now the post office is
- 1:02:36effectively going to send these teams out to train local
- 1:02:41management how to make these cuts correct?
- 1:02:44That's the understanding I have. The the the same management that
- 1:02:48can't get payroll entered correctly right?
- 1:02:51That would be correct. The same management that can't
- 1:02:55schedule correctly. Yep.
- 1:03:00In theory, yes. The same management, yes.
- 1:03:04The same management that didn't bother training the carriers and
- 1:03:08wrecks as they were contractually required to.
- 1:03:11Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding. We have a winner.
- 1:03:19Yep. The same management that was
- 1:03:21supposed to go out and train management on Rex.
- 1:03:28Yeah, the same management where half of US carriers were
- 1:03:31training management on Rex. Ding, Ding.
- 1:03:35Bonus round, Bonus round. You win a giant prize.
- 1:03:43And I'm teaching my my RCA trainees, when we're out on the
- 1:03:46road and there's a special circumstance like a postage due
- 1:03:50letter or an unscanned parcel or extra trips to the door, I am
- 1:03:56getting out of the truck with them and walking them through
- 1:04:00step by step how to do it and what they need to do.
- 1:04:06All right, we made three trips to the door for all of their
- 1:04:09bags of dog food, Kitty litter, mattresses, who knows?
- 1:04:12Convection ovens seem to be popular lately, you know?
- 1:04:18Yeah, I haven't had any of those lately.
- 1:04:20I've had a couple of convection ovens though.
- 1:04:22But you know, I'm, I'm getting right out with them and showing
- 1:04:26them, you know, after we complete it, how to do it.
- 1:04:30You know, what else can I do? I mean, that's what I'm trying
- 1:04:32to do is get them all doing it across the board.
- 1:04:36And if it's, you know, it's something that maybe like if I'm
- 1:04:39training another RCA and my RCA is running the route and he
- 1:04:42comes across something he hasn't dealt with before.
- 1:04:45Well we had a package pick up slip.
- 1:04:47He hadn't dealt with it before so I explained it to him at the
- 1:04:51case of what he would do with it and everything.
- 1:04:53So he got it after that. But you know, there's other
- 1:04:56things like, well he had a postage due letter that I saw
- 1:05:00yesterday. So I just took a sticky note and
- 1:05:02I told him what to do with it. I just wrote it down.
- 1:05:05Rex activity postage due short paid when he got there.
- 1:05:09So he knew what to do. And it's that simple.
- 1:05:12When you're working with newbies, you you, you teach them
- 1:05:14right? As you teach them along as the
- 1:05:16circumstances come up. And don't forget that this is
- 1:05:21the last time that you're going to lose any accrued time for FSS
- 1:05:25flat. This will be the the final
- 1:05:28period where they remove all time that's been attributed to
- 1:05:32your route for FSS flat if you had it.
- 1:05:36Yes. Oh yeah, 'cause it's been AI
- 1:05:39can't believe it's been a year already.
- 1:05:42Yep. I'm surprised they haven't taken
- 1:05:44it off the distance measurement sheet yet.
- 1:05:48We have. Well, yeah, we don't put
- 1:05:51anything in it. Yeah, we just drew a line
- 1:05:54through it. So.
- 1:05:58Which which brings me back to another point in regards to your
- 1:06:03pre trip inspection. Because of the fact that the SO
- 1:06:08132 which is for your truck inspection on the sheet they're
- 1:06:13using in the office they are. There's a comment section off to
- 1:06:17the right that says they're only measuring to the truck door.
- 1:06:21But if you go through the entire SO32 from the engineers, they
- 1:06:26are giving you 8 point 1.8716 minutes to actually do the walk
- 1:06:33around that's already built in to your time factor on top of
- 1:06:38your walk time to the door of your vehicle.
- 1:06:41Now I've been around long enough that when somebody says it's
- 1:06:45already built in, that's like somebody saying, oh, I wouldn't
- 1:06:50lie to you, I don't believe any of it.
- 1:06:54Really don't. Yeah, I've heard that so many
- 1:06:57times. Oh, that's, that's been factored
- 1:06:58in. That's been built in.
- 1:07:00That's ladies and gentlemen, make sure you get those times,
- 1:07:04you know your walk time and make sure that's added in there to to
- 1:07:07verify the actual amount of time that you're getting for your pre
- 1:07:11trip inspections on your government vehicles.
- 1:07:15That's what you're saying, Bill. It's like my daddy always told
- 1:07:18me never trust a man that says trust me.
- 1:07:23And all your distance measurements are a round trip.
- 1:07:29I I had somebody reach out to me 'cause the supervisor that was
- 1:07:33doing the measurements saying, no, it's just to there.
- 1:07:35No, it's round trip. It says right on there.
- 1:07:38I highlighted it on the sheet and then he's like, thank you,
- 1:07:41we got that corrected. But yeah, all your distance
- 1:07:44measurements are round trip. Don't let them do a one way
- 1:07:50it's. Round trip they.
- 1:07:51Should be measuring it with the wheel with you round trip
- 1:07:54measurement. I.
- 1:07:56Think the only one that's not is grabbing your scanner in the
- 1:07:59morning because you're on and to shift duties to walk it back to
- 1:08:03the cradle. I actually it is round trip.
- 1:08:08Yes. And for those who who aren't
- 1:08:15aware, yes O 32 that I was quoting is actually Article 41
- 1:08:21in the Rex guide. The SO32 is a number assigned by
- 1:08:28the engineers that they've done that up and down the board in
- 1:08:31regards to their time specifications.
- 1:08:34So it's not like it's something new, it's just you know, I I use
- 1:08:37the actual, you know, whatever they want to assign that to to
- 1:08:43show that you know they are doing this in a sequence and
- 1:08:46assigning, you know, abstract times to your account.
- 1:08:50Oh, my SMDC friend also said that all their route
- 1:08:54measurements, we'll definitely have to try and get her on and
- 1:09:00she'll definitely be able to explain it better in person.
- 1:09:03But she's like this place is massive, our walking distances
- 1:09:07are going up, are going to up our routes more, her Dr. told
- 1:09:12her. In other SNDC offices, some
- 1:09:14carriers have an in office walking distance over a mile
- 1:09:19long. Holy shit.
- 1:09:24Yeah. Well, and that's daily.
- 1:09:28Yeah, just their in office walking distances between
- 1:09:32everything. Well, I hope.
- 1:09:35I. Hope they upgraded the the
- 1:09:37bathrooms because when we moved from Gay Street and Westchester
- 1:09:41Airport Rd., you had to know 20 minutes before you had to go to
- 1:09:46the bathroom that you had to go to the bathroom.
- 1:09:49Yeah. It was 2 football fields away
- 1:09:52through everybody. I mean, you you had to go
- 1:09:55through the clerks, the city carriers, the supervisors, the
- 1:09:58swing room. It's like by the time I got to
- 1:10:01the bathroom, I was doing the pee pee dance.
- 1:10:05Yeah, you know, it's pretty crazy.
- 1:10:12So you guys want to wrap it up then for this evening?
- 1:10:15We can do that. All right.
- 1:10:18Josh, your final commentary for tonight, please.
- 1:10:23Mini mail survey. It's two weeks.
- 1:10:26They're counting minimal things, but make sure you're getting
- 1:10:29credit for everything you can get credit for.
- 1:10:32It may not take make much of your evaluation, but it could be
- 1:10:37the difference between a 43 or 44.
- 1:10:44Yeah, the next evaluated hour up.
- 1:10:47Or down. Be Yep.
- 1:10:51Be safe out there. Don't get yourself overwhelmed.
- 1:10:56If you do, take a step back, take a deep breath, and step
- 1:11:01back in. Have a good week.
- 1:11:03We'll catch you next time, James.
- 1:11:07Don't. Get yourself dressed out over
- 1:11:10this stuff, even though it is your paycheck.
- 1:11:13Even though management's going to do anything and everything
- 1:11:16they can to cut your numbers down.
- 1:11:19Because that's what they're told to do by their management and
- 1:11:22their management's told that by their management.
- 1:11:25Just do the job the best you can and know that no matter what.
- 1:11:30We're all in this together, Bill.
- 1:11:35Well, here we are again at that critical time of year, twice a
- 1:11:41year now where management's trying to browbeat, manipulate
- 1:11:46whatever they can that the basically rob you and you know
- 1:11:51an educated carrier is the most dangerous carrier to management.
- 1:11:56And if you don't educate yourself for the sake of your
- 1:11:58own paycheck then I don't know what will motivate you.
- 1:12:02Ladies and gentlemen, we just completed this, the SWAC
- 1:12:05conference. The mid states is coming up that
- 1:12:09I'll be attending Eastern States and then Western states also not
- 1:12:14attending the last two, but you know mid states.
- 1:12:17I really looking forward to getting together with my cohorts
- 1:12:20here and you know, stirring the pot up because of the fact that
- 1:12:24after SWAC, we've found that there's a lot of dissent out
- 1:12:28there. And we, we have the opportunity
- 1:12:31of changing the direction of this union.
- 1:12:34We have the opportunity to actually educate, promote and
- 1:12:39protect the craft like they should be.
- 1:12:42The people at the national board level are your employees, Your
- 1:12:47dues pay for their paycheck, their housing, their travel.
- 1:12:52So, you know, when we come to the National Convention this
- 1:12:54year, let's have a whole boatload of new delegates in
- 1:12:58there that want to vote for change.
- 1:13:00I'm not telling you how to change or vote.
- 1:13:03I'm telling you that we need to change and you're the only
- 1:13:06people that can do it. The delegates that attend the
- 1:13:09National Convention, As always, be safe, you know, do the job,
- 1:13:15the best of your ability, exercise carrier discretion and
- 1:13:22be nice to people, OK? There's so much bitterness and
- 1:13:25anger in the world nowadays, it's it's so hard to even
- 1:13:29comprehend that you know you should be nice to people even if
- 1:13:33you don't know them. Not just your customers, but
- 1:13:36people you encounter at the supermarket, at the bar, the VFW
- 1:13:40and all that. Kristen visit while she's on a
- 1:13:42route, but do your job the best you can be, be professional and
- 1:13:48courteous about it and get home safe because you are the most
- 1:13:52important delivery of the day and you need to get home to your
- 1:13:55loved one. God bless.
- 1:13:58Thank you, gentlemen. I can't disagree with any one of
- 1:14:03them. Yep or I.
- 1:14:06What is it? We do them twice a year now.
- 1:14:09Mini mail survey just got underway and you know we're just
- 1:14:14kind of repeating what everybody else has said, you know, get get
- 1:14:18the credit where you can get it, you know, every little thing.
- 1:14:21Yes, it's only 6%. But again, that could be a
- 1:14:25deciding percentage between whether you go up an hour or
- 1:14:28down an hour. You know, that's whether you're
- 1:14:31right at that cusp of going from AJ to AK route or an H to AJ.
- 1:14:37You know, do what you can and count everything that you can
- 1:14:41'cause, you know, like I said, they the smallest number, if
- 1:14:44you're right at that border, will send you in either
- 1:14:47direction. So stay safe, everybody.
- 1:14:50It looks like we're into a secondary fault.
- 1:14:52Spring again around at least my neck of the woods.
- 1:14:56Enjoy the weather all through while you can.
- 1:14:57Stay safe and we will see you next week.
- 1:15:14I say that every week and I still screw it up sometimes.
