- 0:00Taylor.
- 0:01Oh, what a goal by Peter Taylor.
- 0:19Ah, welcome to team of the 80s.
- 0:21My name is Gary Spencer.
- 0:23Thank you for tuning in.
- 0:24It's a funny old game for ball, isn't it?
- 0:26Really is.
- 0:27Could you see us beating Fulham tonight?
- 0:29I couldn't.
- 0:30But the thing is, is that, yeah, we've beaten Fulham and I'll take it.
- 0:33I've got 100 quid on them to go all the way.
- 0:36But the thing is, is with that team, I don't know what that means for us against Tottenham really, because what we had the reserves out the first half, which was really backs to the wall at one point, Fulham
- 0:48had 85% possession and it was a bit like going back to the Royalson days, which, by the way, I don't mind if it's effective.
- 0:57I don't mind if they have 100 of the ball and we have it.
- 1:00Or rather 99 of the ball and we have it 1% and we score.
- 1:04I don't mind that at all.
- 1:05A lot of people hated that football.
- 1:07But if it's effective and if that's the players we've got that can carry that type of football out, then I'll take it.
- 1:13As opposed to playing a system that the players don't understand and we get beat or we let in two, three goals.
- 1:20So positives to take away from tonight for me, we won, we're in the quarterfinal and we got a clean sheet.
- 1:29As whether that's going to give us confidence for Saturday, it's very hard to tell because we didn't have the same team out.
- 1:36I thought decori did amazing.
- 1:38I didn't think he'd last.
- 1:39He lasted what, an hour?
- 1:40Thought he did excellent.
- 1:42Hughes, of course, does excellent.
- 1:44He always does.
- 1:45Gusani did okay.
- 1:47Richard was for me our outstanding player tonight.
- 1:51He did very, very well.
- 1:52And Dean back in goal, obviously that always helps.
- 1:55And then obviously when the.
- 1:56When the good players came in, or rather our first choice players came in, then we really did seem to shore up the game and we looked like going to get a second, to be honest.
- 2:07But again, I'll keep going back to it.
- 2:09I don't know what that means for Sarge or what that means for our game against spurs because there's really nothing.
- 2:15It's not going to carry over.
- 2:16It was so different.
- 2:18The game was so different.
- 2:20I don't think we can have any momentum or carryover, but I'll take the win and you're going to get a Premier League club.
- 2:27Let's get Sunderland at our place.
- 2:29Got to fancy our chances so, yeah, we'll take it again.
- 2:34I don't know what it means about us in the league or us as a team, as the teams were so different and so contrasting in that game, but as everybody knows, I.
- 2:43I've been a big proponent of.
- 2:45Of Sarge to get fired.
- 2:47I don't think he's got the chops for the Premier League.
- 2:50He looks out of his depth than me and I don't really.
- 2:54The only, the only thing I can think about is us giving him the Fulham game and the spurs game is that we haven't quite worked out a deal yet with the new manager.
- 3:02Now, let's talk about the new manager.
- 3:05Who would you want it to be?
- 3:07Because if I mentioned Dice, for instance.
- 3:10Oh, he's a dinosaur.
- 3:12He's.
- 3:12He's going to be horrible to watch.
- 3:15Yeah, he may be, but he might give us the discipline we need to get 33 points.
- 3:19Look at it any way you want.
- 3:20You're going to get an expansive manager in there.
- 3:22We've still got to get 33 points and the defense that we've got, I don't know.
- 3:28So I'd rather go.
- 3:30And also, please believe this, that Crystal palace is a season by season club.
- 3:36We're not gonna build.
- 3:38We're not.
- 3:39I see so many posts in social media about, oh, and we're not moving forward.
- 3:44We're not carrying.
- 3:45Do you realize that 13 seasons in the Premier League is Crystal palace moving forward?
- 3:51That is stability for us.
- 3:53That is success for us.
- 3:54Yeah, we won the FA cup and the Charity Shield and Europa Conference League, but let's get it right.
- 4:01The FA cup we won, but it's a bit of a lottery, but we won it and we beat a good Manchester City team.
- 4:07And that was for me, what we did win.
- 4:10The Charity Shield.
- 4:11Yeah, great.
- 4:11But it's a, it's a friendly.
- 4:13The Europa Conference League, the opposition was horrible, right.
- 4:18And somehow we managed to get to the final.
- 4:20We won it.
- 4:21We ended up in a terrible league position.
- 4:23Our squad got stretched and it's.
- 4:27Again, it's no reflection on what we really like as a football club.
- 4:30So if you are expecting Crystal palace to challenge top 10, top six, it's never going to happen.
- 4:36It's not going to happen.
- 4:37And it's especially not going to happen now the new financial rules are in play.
- 4:40It's not going to happen.
- 4:42So just for me, just be thankful that we're in the Premier League.
- 4:45And if you do not want that, if you want the excitement of the championship, because we may be top of the league and we may be beating teams more regularly.
- 4:53I don't know what to tell you or, or stay in the Premier League and go and support a top six club.
- 4:58Because if you're expecting Crystal palace to be that club.
- 5:03I've been watching them since 1969, 1970, they've never been that club.
- 5:10They threatened it a few times through the team of the 80s, etc.
- 5:13Etc.
- 5:14But Crystal palace are a selling club.
- 5:16Their move is to go out, find a player, get something out of him, moving on as a profit.
- 5:22Right?
- 5:23So even the people now that saying, oh, just keep sage toward the next window.
- 5:27What do you think we're going to invest 60, 70, 80 million quid in the next window?
- 5:31We're not going to do that.
- 5:33So we need a manager which understands the players he's got, I.
- 5:36E.
- 5:37Like Hodgson Hodgson did like he.
- 5:39Like Poolis did, and get the best out of the players we got and play a system with the players we got.
- 5:45All right?
- 5:45And then get through this season and then next season's next season.
- 5:49That's the way Crystal palace have operated so far in the Premier League.
- 5:53I don't mind it, but I.
- 5:55But I'm a realist.
- 5:56A lot of people online say that I'm a pessimist or I'm negative.
- 6:00I'm not either of those things.
- 6:01I love it when we win and I want us to win, but I'm also a realist.
- 6:05I talk about what I'm actually seeing as opposed to what I would like to see.
- 6:10I.
- 6:10E.
- 6:10Oh, Walton's world class.
- 6:12No, he's not world class.
- 6:13In fact, he's awful.
- 6:14In fact, he should have been dropped for use a long time ago.
- 6:17That's how I see the game.
- 6:18Anyway, going back to the managers, I would ideally like Thomas Frank, but can Thomas Frank organize our defense?
- 6:28Sean Dyche, you know, I already like him.
- 6:30If I had my way, I'd get in Sam Allardyce because Sam Allardyce would work on that defense four hours, three hours a day until they did get it right.
- 6:38And I guarantee we would, we would stop conceding goals.
- 6:43Who else?
- 6:43We've got Eddie Howe, I think Eddie.
- 6:46I was just going to wait around because if Michael Carrick doesn't go this week, he's going to go next week.
- 6:50I can't see Eddie Howe coming to the club and the other Fellowshaw.
- 6:55I can't see McKenna coming.
- 6:57I don't think Parish wants.
- 6:59I.
- 6:59I think Parish wants Thomas Frank or he wants Shaan Dych, probably Deitch, because in all honesty, I think he's more of a Crystal palace type manager.
- 7:13And I think Steve Parish has made some really great, great decisions over the years.
- 7:18I saw today a petition from the fans to get rid of Hobbs.
- 7:24Listen, if Steve Parrish had listened to the fans, we'd have been bankrupt and out the league years ago.
- 7:30All right, so Steve Parish ain't going to be listening to no petitions, trust me.
- 7:34But Hobbs, is he to blame?
- 7:37Yeah, maybe.
- 7:38Or maybe I, I, who knows, you know?
- 7:41All I know is that right now we're hearing a lot of noise everywhere.
- 7:45Oh, it's the atmosphere.
- 7:47Oh, it's Hobbs.
- 7:47Oh, it's Parish.
- 7:48But we didn't hear that when we won Europa Conference League.
- 7:52We didn't hear that when we won the FA Cup.
- 7:55We didn't hear that when we were even won the Charity Shield.
- 7:58So what I'm saying is, you start winning games, all this other crap goes away because people aren't thinking, oh, they're trying to pick negatives out of everything else, apart from what is really wrong, and that is the players
- 8:12aren't playing as good as they should do and the management isn't managing them properly or playing a system which they understand and can carry out.
- 8:22So they're my thoughts.
- 8:24How do I feel about Tottenham?
- 8:26I think we'll get beat against Tottenham.
- 8:27Tottenham.
- 8:28He's a great manager, Robert de Zerbi, and he's starting to get a tune out of him.
- 8:34They'd be very confident after their win at Chelsea and I think we'll get done at Tottenham.
- 8:40And then what happens?
- 8:41Who knows?
- 8:42I, you know, I would really love Sarge to make it work, but I don't think he is going to make it work and I think.
- 8:51I think he'd be better off out of it, to be quite honest.
- 8:53And if we wait till the window, that's a lot of games and a lot of points to make up when we start in January.
- 9:00So, yeah, that's where I'm at with that.
- 9:03That's about it from me this week.
- 9:06Hope we do dig something out of Tottenham.
- 9:08I can't see it, but anyway, onwards and upwards.
- 9:12I'll try and stay realistic, you try and stay optimistic and I don't know who the pessimistic one is and come on, you badass.
