- 0:00Why are today's Christian families so fragile and so weak?
- 0:03I think that we should be able to look at the way a Christian leads their family and the way somebody who is very secular in their outlook and see a major difference between the two.
- 0:12But I think that Christians do not build a different kind of family because we lack a biblical vision for family.
- 0:18I think that if noble Christian fathers and mothers would actually take seriously the call to build strong multi-generational family teams, then I think we would see this incredible difference.
- 0:28And I think the world would pay attention and notice.
- 0:29And so what I want to do in this video is walk through what that could look like.
- 0:33Like what is the dream scenario?
- 0:35What's the ideal scenario for a multi-generational family?
- 0:38So, hi, my name is Jeremy.
- 0:39I'm with Family Teams.
- 0:40We're trying to figure out how to help restore the biblical blueprint of families to the church.
- 0:44Episode 3, we looked at Genesis 128, where it describes the family as a unit that does five things.
- 0:49Be fruitful, multiply, fill, subdue, and rule.
- 0:51Now, I want to take a step back and think about those five words from the perspective of a visionary case study.
- 0:56What could this look like across five generations?
- 0:58What could this look like across five generations?
- 0:59And I think as you begin to perceive what this could look like, what I want to help you guys do is to see this is so worth investing in.
- 1:06Like you can change the world radically in five generations.
- 1:09So what would happen if in each generation we took one of those elements really seriously?
- 1:14What if Gen 1 tried to be fruitful, Gen 2 tried to multiply, Gen 3 tried to...
- 1:18Fill, subdue, rule in each generation.
- 1:21Now, I think it's great for families to go after all five things in every generation, but I want to do this just for the sake of really teasing out the vision, that even if all you did was accomplish one of these and just stack them over five generations, what could happen?
- 1:32So let's go.
- 1:33Gen 1, your job is to be fruitful.
- 1:35That is really simple.
- 1:36Have kids.
- 1:36So...
- 1:37Let's say in Gen 1, your family, you had five kids.
- 1:40Part of being fruitful is not just having kids, but also raising them well, giving them that godly character like it described in Malachi 2, what it means to actually raise a godly family.
- 1:49And so part of what it means to be fruitful as well is to clarify the family's vision, our mission, our values.
- 1:53You really instill that deep into your five kids.
- 1:55They really get a sense for it.
- 1:56wow, this is who we are as a family.
- 1:58And so they want to pass that on.
- 2:00And part of what you have to do in order to be fruitful is also protect your kids from the sterilizing mind viruses that will cause them to really reject family, reject someday being a mother or father.
- 2:08That's going to be really important.
- 2:08So you've raised a fruitful family in Gen 1, and now you are watching your children begin to have your grandchildren.
- 2:14And Gen 2 takes up the mantle, and their job is to multiply.
- 2:17So your five kids have an average of five kids each, so you end up with 25 grandchildren.
- 2:22an amazing Gen 2 experience of your kids having kids.
- 2:25So Gen 1, this is you and your wife or husband.
- 2:28And then Gen 2, your five kids.
- 2:29Gen 3, now you have 25 grandchildren.
- 2:32So part of what this means is that what Gen 2 needs to do to focus on creating a multiplying family,
- 2:37Gen 1 really created the vision for a fruitful family.
- 2:40Now we want to have a multiplying family.
- 2:41And that means that we really instill this value for having children early and often.
- 2:45So our kids are excited to have kids.
- 2:47And now we're raising these 25 kids to be not just independent, individual men and women, but to become future skilled fathers and mothers.
- 2:55Every boy desires to be a father.
- 2:57Every girl desires to be a mother.
- 2:59They begin to create this kind of family culture.
- 3:01Every branch has a love for this larger family team.
- 3:04And so these 25 cousins who get to interact with each other, really learn how to love each other, and they see the beautiful vision that could be the family.
- 3:11So that's Gen 2.
- 3:12Now we're going to get into Gen 3.
- 3:13These 25 kids are now experiencing
- 3:14excited.
- 3:15They're on board.
- 3:15They understand how to be fruitful.
- 3:17They're on mission to multiply, to have kids early and often.
- 3:19And so these 25 kids that are in Gen 2 decide to have children an average of five as well.
- 3:25And so now you have 125 cousins in Gen 3, 125.
- 3:29Now we were fruitful in Gen 1, multiply in Gen 2.
- 3:32Now in Gen 3, we're focusing on family.
- 3:33Phil.
- 3:33What does it mean to Phil?
- 3:34Really, there's two trajectories that we really want to consider.
- 3:37What does the Bible mean by Phil?
- 3:39The first one is we want to saturate the local area that we're in.
- 3:42We have 125 cousins now.
- 3:44We want to figure out how do we create a kind of experience here where we are saturating a region with the values of our family, the vision of our family.
- 3:51We're blessing people and other families tremendously, the kingdom, other elements of society.
- 3:55But part of Phil is
- 3:56Also, because he's talking about fill the earth, or what Jesus says in Matthew 28, to make disciples of all nations, that's also the mandate to fill, is we need to begin to think about what are the mission bases that our family is going to be launching into as well to begin to fill those regions.
- 4:11And so you might want to think of other places around the country, other cities overseas, specific buildings.
- 4:15areas that you want to colonize through your family for the kingdom of God.
- 4:19So you have your very dense homeland where you're like, this is our homeland.
- 4:22This is where we are rooted.
- 4:23This is our outpost.
- 4:24And then we start to figure out what are some additional outposts?
- 4:27How do we create almost family colonies in other places to make sure that as our kids are growing up, they're not just stuck.
- 4:33in one place.
- 4:33If they can contribute a lot to that area, then they're staying, they're building strong families.
- 4:37But we really want to be thinking about, God, are you calling us to other places?
- 4:40So Gen 3, you've got 125 cousins working to fill.
- 4:43So they bring fruit for their multiply filled.
- 4:45Now, what's the fourth thing?
- 4:46They subdue.
- 4:47So Gen 3 is 125.
- 4:48Now, they're still on mission to multiply.
- 4:50They're excited to have kids.
- 4:51They're excited to be mothers and fathers.
- 4:53And so let's say you're 125 Gen 3 great-grandchildren.
- 4:56They decide to also have an average of five kids each.
- 4:58That's 625 members of Gen 4.
- 5:01And what is the mission?
- 5:02They're on the mission to subdue.
- 5:04So what does that mean?
- 5:04That means that they are building strategic businesses.
- 5:07They're taking control and purchasing and acquiring assets.
- 5:10They're figuring out what are the ministries that are really going to move the kingdom forward that we can be a part of.
- 5:14How are we being a part of a mission to make disciples who make disciples?
- 5:17How are we subduing in our area?
- 5:19Always looking for those
- 5:20elements of influence and impact to maximize what the kingdom is doing in and through our family.
- 5:24And so this kind of subduing, and this can happen over land as we cultivate the land, the way that Adam and Eve did the Garden of Eden, but also means extending the boundaries of the kingdom of God.
- 5:32And how does that kingdom expand?
- 5:33It expands as people make the confession, Jesus is Lord and they're disciples and they become obedient to him as their king.
- 5:39And so we want to see that as we're leading businesses, we're in
- 5:42integrating our faith into those places when we're becoming a part of ministries that we're ensuring that they are maximally reproductive for the kingdom of God and making disciples and maximizing and multiplying disciple making.
- 5:52And so part of what we want to do also in Subdu is to think about like, what are the macro businesses or things that we're doing to really
- 5:57extend or be a part of this larger economy and then also potentially creating micro economies are really interested in the local economy.
- 6:04What are things that because we are importing and exporting things to the larger economy that we're participating in that larger place, that's part of subduing is really engaging in that larger economic game.
- 6:13We also want to be thinking about like, how is this really playing out in our area?
- 6:17Like, how are we making sure that there are businesses thriving here?
- 6:20So much of what happens is that we just get into that macro game.
- 6:23You know, we bring in the Walmart and then we just see all the businesses in our area just kind of implode.
- 6:27Every mom and pop thing that is created is just overrun because Amazon and Walmart is just like nobody is buying things locally.
- 6:34So we want to be really thoughtful about how are we creating beautiful businesses that are really blessing our local economy, but also how are we sustaining all of that through bringing in money through the macro communities?
- 6:43So this is all a part of what Gen 4 is going to be part of.
- 6:45The 625 members of Gen 4 that are a part of that mission to subdue.
- 6:49Now, where is this ultimately headed?
- 6:50Okay, so you've got your fruitful, your multiply, your fill, subdue, and now the ultimate goal of where this is all heading is rule.
- 6:57So the 625 family members of Gen 4 have now an average of five kids each.
- 7:01That gives birth to 3,125 ruling descendants in Generation 5.
- 7:06So these ruling descendants are really thoughtful about, okay, now we have these deep values that come from our family.
- 7:12We've seen the fruit of our family.
- 7:14We've seen how it has blessed our whole region economically.
- 7:17And so who is better suited to rule?
- 7:20We do need people to rule, people to be judges and to be mayors and to engage in the local economic and local governance roles.
- 7:28So we're seeing...
- 7:29our kids from this Gen 5 really fill so many of those roles.
- 7:32And this is something that the entire area is so excited.
- 7:35Your family has such a stellar reputation.
- 7:37And in the different colonies that you're a part of, that you're sending more and more family members to, you're also becoming a ruling family in those places.
- 7:44You're discipling nations now.
- 7:45You're getting the attention of the national media.
- 7:47They're like, what is going on in this town?
- 7:49What's going on over here?
- 7:50What is this family?
- 7:51Like, how did this come about?
- 7:52And so they ask,
- 7:53questions and you're able to really bless people and say, look, this is God's vision.
- 7:56This is what it means to really be a flourishing family.
- 7:58This all started, you know, a hundred years ago with just a mother and a father that decide to raise a godly multi-generational family team.
- 8:05And so this is starting to really bless people.
- 8:07They're starting to see the vision.
- 8:09Now, part of what I want for you guys to see is that obviously this is an ideal, you know, there's going to be a lot of challenges in each of these generations that are going to try to derail anything like this.
- 8:17But I think the thing that I really want to leave with you guys is that this is a vision that is
- 8:22but most of us can't see it.
- 8:23We cannot look at our kids right now and see the 3,000 ruling descendants that could come from that family line if we're faithful.
- 8:29We're so enamored with the big spectacles, the addition strategies, that we're ignoring these powerful family multiplication strategies if we are not obsessed with just what happens in our lifetime, but what's happening across generations.
- 8:41So I want to encourage you guys, there's so much possible that can happen.
- 8:44What you're doing is absolutely world-changing when you're building a multi-generational family team.
- 8:50What the
- 8:50planet could look like?
- 8:51What would happen if you go back in time and train families from 100 years ago to think this way?
- 8:55What would America, what would your country look like if we were all doing this?
- 8:59If we were all a part of the Genesis 1.28 vision, that really is the identical thing that Jesus says in Matthew 20, to make disciples, to be fruitful, to multiply, to fill, subdue, and rule.
- 9:10We would live in a completely different world.
- 9:12So I encourage you guys to really catch that vision, begin to build that five-generation family that is going to
- 9:18see the world, your region transform in the world because of it.
- 9:21We need thousands of families to adopt this vision.
