- 2:16Speaker 5: Peter Malar pullover from the Rogue Men's store. I got
- 2:19Speaker 5: the out of Bound's logo on it. Blake and I
- 2:22Speaker 5: were sitting there one night at dinner and we were like,
- 2:24Speaker 5: why don't we do a mic as the logo? And
- 2:28Speaker 5: it's been popular. I think we need to do some
- 2:31Speaker 5: more hats. We ran through them fast. I don't know
- 2:33Speaker 5: why I haven't done another run, but we've got the
- 2:36Speaker 5: microphone on the Peter Malar pullover and then the Whiskey
- 2:39Speaker 5: sixty one logo, which is basically just an epic, epic
- 2:45Speaker 5: night of good bourbon or wine and steaks and football
- 2:49Speaker 5: talk and business and all that stuff. Whiskey sixty one
- 2:52Speaker 5: is an experience. But I like this pullover. I spilled
- 2:57Speaker 5: coffee on it. On Thursday or Frida Jackson, Wendy got
- 3:02Speaker 5: it out of it. It looks fantastic. Hey, go to
- 3:04Speaker 5: our YouTube page. We'd love for you to do that.
- 3:09Speaker 5: Out of Bound Sports. That's the channel. Hit subscribe, check

- 3:15Speaker 5: shorts and reels and videos on there. It takes you
- 3:18Speaker 5: from now until kickoff to get through it. But we've
- 3:21Speaker 5: got stuff on p Golding, Jeff Levy, Camaro, Taylor the Man,
- 3:26Speaker 5: the myth, the legend, Trinidad Chambliss, you know, one of
- 3:30Speaker 5: the Heisman front runners, right with Arch and Dante More.
- 3:33Speaker 3: We have him right here in this state. This is Trinidad.
- 3:36Speaker 5: Always said when it was Lane, it was Lane Keith
- 3:39Speaker 5: Carter's world in the state of Mississippi. Right now, right now,
- 3:42Speaker 5: it's Trinidad Chambliss and Keith Carter. But we have so
- 3:47Speaker 5: much content on Drew Brees, Jeff Levy, Pete Golding, Trinidad Camrio.
- 3:56Speaker 5: We'd love for you to hit the YouTube channel out
- 3:58Speaker 5: of Bound Sports. We're trying to hit a number by
- 4:01Speaker 5: Labor Day. We've been on fire. Help us get there.
- 4:05Speaker 5: In fact, we're gonna one of the big giveaways we
- 4:07Speaker 5: do either this Tito's Vodka golf bag or Elijah Craig
- 4:12Speaker 5: golf bag or both. We're gonna have to drive it
- 4:14Speaker 5: through YouTube smart. We're just gonna have to do it
- 4:17Speaker 5: the right way. We do TikTok as well now too,
- 4:19Speaker 5: So dude, TikTok is on fire.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Can you believe we're on TikTok?
- 4:24Speaker 1: No?
- 4:24Speaker 3: I can't either, uh huh uh.
- 4:26Speaker 5: But Jackson's uploading reels left and right on our TikTok
- 4:30Speaker 5: page and that's cool too. We just started last week
- 4:33Speaker 5: and you know we're we're over one hundred followers, so
- 4:35Speaker 5: that's cool. But the point is we're getting we got
- 4:37Speaker 5: all these we got bunch of views, we got a
- 4:39Speaker 5: bunch of use what'd you tell me on one of them?
- 4:41Speaker 6: At five?
- 4:41Speaker 7: We were sending a record today over five thousand on
- 4:44Speaker 7: our first one okay, one of them, five thousand views?
- 4:46Speaker 3: Good. I like that.
- 4:47Speaker 5: Deboss did well. But he did what what did he do?
- 4:50Speaker 5: Forty five okay? Forty five hundred? Oh, we got to
- 4:52Speaker 5: get him back in before he goes over to try.
- 4:54Speaker 5: Thank you for saying that. Actually, next couple of weeks, dang,
- 4:58Speaker 5: that's going that is Yeah, he's where say Iceland or Greenland.
- 5:02Speaker 3: I can't remember the two, okay, all right?
- 5:04Speaker 5: Which one was the one that Trump threatened to take
- 5:07Speaker 5: and had the snowflakes all in a Okay, I think
- 5:11Speaker 5: we should take Canada, Iceland and Greenland. By this afternoon,
- 5:15Speaker 5: we are the Out of Bounds Show. We're brought to
- 5:17Speaker 5: you by the Bacon Wrap shrimp, Bacon Wrap shrimp, twelve
- 5:23Speaker 5: ounce fil a medium rare ooh ooh yeah all right,
- 5:32Speaker 5: and a Tito's Espresso martini at Kessler Prime and the
- 5:35Speaker 5: Renaissance Keslerprime dot Com to make a reservation. I almost
- 5:39Speaker 5: retired from the Kessler Prime Fantasy Football League, but Jackson
- 5:44Speaker 5: Meadows and Scott Kessler taught me out of it. So
- 5:47Speaker 5: I haven't wonted in forever. Well, I haven't run my
- 5:50Speaker 5: team and forever Jackson did, Jason did? Blake did we
- 5:56Speaker 5: won it?
- 5:57Speaker 3: Did we win it? Your first time around?
- 5:58Speaker 6: Okay?
- 5:59Speaker 5: So it's been that long, Yeah, it's it's been a minute.
- 6:04Speaker 5: We got to get our mind right. I think I
- 6:06Speaker 5: really believe we're in position to do Okay, do you?
- 6:10Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 6:10Speaker 7: It's a keeper league. We got very good keepers.
- 6:14Speaker 3: Is Caleb Williams still our quarterback?
- 6:15Speaker 7: Yes, that's a good keeper. That's a good quarterback.
- 6:18Speaker 5: I don't really care about Chicago Bears football since Walter Payton.
- 6:23Speaker 5: But and I was obsessed with Walter Payton as a kid,
- 6:27Speaker 5: just like you had your guys, right, especially knowing that
- 6:30Speaker 5: Walter Payton played at Jackson State. That was like that
- 6:33Speaker 5: he was a god to us. But kind of think
- 6:39Speaker 5: Jay Meadows, who my favorite Chicago Bear is since Walter
- 6:46Speaker 5: de Hester Devon was a great player? What a what
- 6:50Speaker 5: a what a special special talent? Damn Charles Tillman, the
- 6:56Speaker 5: peanut punch. We had Tillman on the show.
- 6:59Speaker 7: Love that.
- 7:01Speaker 3: I wasn't really thinking of him.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Erlacker, No, j Cutler, No, although I thought, I think
- 7:08Speaker 5: is pretty funny because he's real drop and he's real funny.
- 7:11Speaker 5: Brandon Marshall, now, I mean good player, But no, that
- 7:14Speaker 5: doesn't do anything for me. That's not right, Irlacker doesn't.
- 7:19Speaker 5: I mean, I don't have anything against these guys. God
- 7:22Speaker 5: damn it played offense. I thought I just said Rex
- 7:25Speaker 5: Grossman numb nuts.
- 7:27Speaker 7: Uh so yeah, they're not playing offense.
- 7:32Speaker 5: Well, I mean I was just thinking about that, like
- 7:34Speaker 5: Mississippi State was bad at offense for decades and then Dan,
- 7:38Speaker 5: you know, in the modern era. They've had some better
- 7:40Speaker 5: offenses under Dan and Leech. Even Jackie had some good offenses.
- 7:45Speaker 5: He I mean it was more you know, pound the rock,
- 7:49Speaker 5: but uh.
- 7:50Speaker 7: I mean offensive player.
- 7:52Speaker 5: But the Bears have actually been more dysfunctional on offense
- 7:56Speaker 5: than ms U posts Walter Payton. And that's that's incredible
- 8:01Speaker 5: to me. I mean, the Bears have been awful on offense.
- 8:07Speaker 5: Good lord.
- 8:07Speaker 7: Yeah, but it's turned around now with the you know,
- 8:10Speaker 7: the offensive player of.
- 8:10Speaker 3: The year and now they're moving to Indiana. What offensive
- 8:13Speaker 3: player of the year last year?
- 8:14Speaker 7: Caleb Williams, he's our road worried about fantasy stats, gotcha?
- 8:20Speaker 5: Okay, okay, that's right. See you're you're more into the
- 8:23Speaker 5: smoking mirror stuff.
- 8:24Speaker 7: I'm trying to make sure we win.
- 8:25Speaker 5: Okay, Okay, anyway, I'm playing fantasy foot well, I say it.
- 8:28Speaker 3: I don't even think I'm gonna be able to make
- 8:30Speaker 3: the draft.
- 8:30Speaker 5: Well he hadn't told me exactly, but the only reason
- 8:33Speaker 5: I play is to see Scott and them at the
- 8:36Speaker 5: draft and because of the trash talking and t r
- 8:39Speaker 5: is funny, you know the whole all Right, do you
- 8:44Speaker 5: have you have another league though you play, or do
- 8:47Speaker 5: you play.
- 8:48Speaker 3: How many leagues do you play too?
- 8:49Speaker 7: From the hometown. I just stick to them too.
- 8:51Speaker 3: So you're straight out of Clinton?
- 8:52Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 8:52Speaker 5: Will you name the league straight out of Clinton in
- 8:55Speaker 5: honor of me? And I don't know why I think
- 8:58Speaker 5: that's funny. It's probably ridiculous to you, but I just
- 9:03Speaker 5: I think of you and you're straight out of Clinton.
- 9:06Speaker 7: You should That's what you should think about the majority
- 9:09Speaker 7: of us.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Right, which is a wonderful community.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:13Speaker 5: Ready, shout out to Richardson's Barber and salon, husband, wife,
- 9:21Speaker 5: team and Clinton.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Awesome people. They do a great job.
- 9:24Speaker 5: They do all the fancy stuff and just the regular
- 9:27Speaker 5: haircuts too. They're super talented. Richardson Barber and Salon. Richardson
- 9:34Speaker 5: Barber and Salon in Clinton, Mississippi.
- 9:36Speaker 4: We love you.
- 9:37Speaker 6: Hey.
- 9:37Speaker 3: We're also going to have the straight front teas of
- 9:39Speaker 3: the week.
- 9:40Speaker 5: It's right around the corner. We've got a friend of
- 9:42Speaker 5: Drew Brees that's going to join us.
- 9:43Speaker 6: At eight thirty we went.
- 10:29Speaker 4: To Tallas We taking them all. We've let him go
- 10:31Speaker 4: down the field stores.
- 10:35Speaker 5: Good morning, Welcome into the Out of Bounds Show ESPN
- 10:39Speaker 5: one oh five nine The Zone. We interviewed Derek Emerson
- 10:43Speaker 5: with Massa Mesa, Little Fie and Kate and Local four
- 10:47Speaker 5: sixty three and Sacred Ground for our big culinary series
- 10:51Speaker 5: around Jackson, Mississippi. Proper city limits restaurants including Massa Mesa
- 10:58Speaker 5: in the East Over District, which I've had lunch at
- 11:00Speaker 5: three times it's amazing, and a Little Fi which is
- 11:04Speaker 5: a really really cool restaurant and bar spot too. Derek
- 11:09Speaker 5: was kind of enough to drop off some gift certificates,
- 11:11Speaker 5: so we'll give away a twenty five dollars gift certificate
- 11:13Speaker 5: today and an out of bounds hat, and we'll throw
- 11:17Speaker 5: in a little Tito's Bar swag to give you a
- 11:21Speaker 5: big time prize pack brought to you by Masa Mesa
- 11:25Speaker 5: in the East Over District. You can go to any
- 11:27Speaker 5: of his locations on the gift y'all know the drill
- 11:30Speaker 5: on the gift card. But Masa Mesa's is new Kraft
- 11:34Speaker 5: Burgers and Tacos spot in the East Over District. It's fantastic.
- 11:39Speaker 5: I've now run through several taco Jackson. What'd you have
- 11:42Speaker 5: the other night? You said you went and you enjoyed it,
- 11:45Speaker 5: went Masa Mesa in the East Over District.
- 11:49Speaker 7: Dirty Diana and I went with your lunchbox recommendation.
- 11:53Speaker 5: Okay, gas absolute delicious cool bar outside area, green space.

- 12:06Speaker 7: a drink and chips for fourteen bucks.
- 12:08Speaker 5: Okay, so you can get in and out of there
- 12:10Speaker 5: easily twenty under twenty five dollars at lunch. Masamesa in
- 12:14Speaker 5: the East Obur district is one of the many places
- 12:17Speaker 5: that we're highlighting over this ten or twelve week campaign
- 12:21Speaker 5: as far as culinary because we are the culinary show
- 12:24Speaker 5: in the SEC, and y'all know Derek's fantastic as far
- 12:28Speaker 5: as everything they've done. But here's the giveaway. Here's how
- 12:31Speaker 5: you enter to win twenty five dollars, gets certificate to
- 12:34Speaker 5: Masa Mesa out of bounds hat some Tito swag. So
- 12:40Speaker 5: we want on the text line six oh one eight eight, five, three, seven,
- 12:45Speaker 5: seven six, we want to know three things. How are
- 12:49Speaker 5: you listening one oh five nine the zone or streaming
- 12:53Speaker 5: where are you listening from? Is number two? And number three.
- 12:58Speaker 5: Who would be the best celebrity to do a cameo?
- 13:02Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 13:03Speaker 3: Charlie Sheen. Sheen can make.
- 13:08Speaker 5: As much as he wants, actually just depends on how
- 13:11Speaker 5: again focused in discipline he is.
- 13:12Speaker 3: He hit the wave.
- 13:14Speaker 5: Sheen could make twenty to forty k a month easily
- 13:18Speaker 5: doing cameos.
- 13:19Speaker 3: But like, who would you pick to do a.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Cameo for you or you and your wife or your buddy,
- 13:24Speaker 5: or it's maybe a gag cameo, it can be whatever.
- 13:27Speaker 5: We just want something, think of somebody. You know, we
- 13:31Speaker 5: were talking about Eddio. That's why this Eddio's doing cameos.
- 13:35Speaker 5: Edo's run mister old Miss Lsu Saints in Southern cal
- 13:39Speaker 5: and now back with Kiff and at LSU and an
- 13:42Speaker 5: analyst's role. So who's got the juice on the cameo?
- 13:46Speaker 5: We need some really good names. Best text that's how
- 13:50Speaker 5: you enter. Best text that we pick. You win a
- 13:53Speaker 5: twenty five dollars gift certificate to Masamesa in the East
- 13:56Speaker 5: Over district, which is fabulous kraft Tacos and right off
- 14:02Speaker 5: five fifty five, right down a mile down from the
- 14:05Speaker 5: Rogueman store, Masa Mesa Burgers, tacos, fun stuff. And that's
- 14:14Speaker 5: how you enter and you could win, okay, twenty five
- 14:18Speaker 5: dollars gift certificate to any of the locations with Derek Emerson.
- 14:22Speaker 5: We're focusing on Masa Mason, Little Effie, and then an
- 14:27Speaker 5: out of bounds hat, which are good on am I
- 14:30Speaker 5: I'm wearing Whiskey sixty one, but the out of bounds
- 14:33Speaker 5: hats are great looking. We need to do the microphone
- 14:35Speaker 5: hat again, don't we, Jackson, Yeah, that'd be a great
- 14:40Speaker 5: for football.
- 14:42Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 14:43Speaker 3: I hate to give Blake credit.
- 14:46Speaker 6: I'm not.
- 14:48Speaker 5: And then we'll do some Tito's swag. That'll be the
- 14:52Speaker 5: prize pack. You want that kind of prize pack. It's
- 14:55Speaker 5: pretty odd. We're gonna pack it with cool stuff.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Come on.
- 14:58Speaker 7: Charlie Sheen was three feet a video or a cameo,
- 15:01Speaker 7: whenever it was, he was there. He hit the bubble.
- 15:04Speaker 7: There was a mean bubble during COVID.
- 15:07Speaker 3: I can only imagine.
- 15:08Speaker 7: So he hit that. He was there in twenty nineteen.
- 15:10Speaker 7: He is currently not on cameos dot Comedy more. However,
- 15:13Speaker 7: there is a seven thousand person wait list to get
- 15:17Speaker 7: on there. If he gets on there, there's seven thousand
- 15:19Speaker 7: people ready to buy.
- 15:21Speaker 5: Okay, so give me. Let's think about so the demand
- 15:25Speaker 5: is there? Oh yeah, as much money as he blew
- 15:30Speaker 5: he still got money or he'd be doing that, right
- 15:34Speaker 5: and I know, you know, so let's do So he's
- 15:38Speaker 5: looking at two point eight million that's sitting there, just
- 15:41Speaker 5: right there. Whenever he wants to get it. He's got
- 15:45Speaker 5: and I think I'm going low. I went conservative. He's
- 15:48Speaker 5: got two point eight million sitting there waiting for him
- 15:53Speaker 5: whenever he wants to do it. As far as cameos, yes,
- 15:56Speaker 5: and I think that is a drop in the bucket
- 15:59Speaker 5: on what he can make. Oh yeah, yeah. I don't
- 16:02Speaker 5: know what Cameo takes, so I don't know what his
- 16:04Speaker 5: net is, but let's just say they take ten to
- 16:07Speaker 5: fifteen percent.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Yeah, his net is still really really good.
- 16:10Speaker 5: Okay, And again I think if Charlie Sheen committed to
- 16:14Speaker 5: it for a while, he can make five million easily.
- 16:16Speaker 7: Yeah yeah, yeah, still but still like today, Yes, I
- 16:24Speaker 7: mean he probably would have sworded past that whenever the
- 16:26Speaker 7: winning thing.
- 16:27Speaker 5: Can you imagine when Pete Rose was alive, So he
- 16:30Speaker 5: did baseball, you know, he did autograph signings and baseball
- 16:35Speaker 5: card signings his whole life and made twenty grand and
- 16:38Speaker 5: pop thirty grand a pop you know, forever, I mean
- 16:40Speaker 5: he do he worked all the time I don't know
- 16:43Speaker 5: how many hundreds of thousands of dollars he was making
- 16:45Speaker 5: a mount, but he did well.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Could have done even, but he did well. Somebody mentioned
- 16:51Speaker 3: Mike Tyson.
- 16:52Speaker 7: Tyson would be good.
- 16:53Speaker 5: I'm sure Tyson's on there. Okay, you know, I figure
- 16:58Speaker 5: Tyson can get up every day and do of them
- 17:01Speaker 5: and make a few grand per day. So when we
- 17:04Speaker 5: think about these these men and women who may not
- 17:06Speaker 5: have another path to generate revenue if they want to,
- 17:11Speaker 5: they like Johnny Manziel, I don't know if Manziel could
- 17:14Speaker 5: do cameos, Yeah, just for frat guys, right and make
- 17:20Speaker 5: Let's just say, Manziel's broke, and I have no idea.
- 17:23Speaker 5: Sure he could trip over twenty k a money, yep,
- 17:26Speaker 5: and that that's not a lot of money to some
- 17:28Speaker 5: of you, and that's a lot of money to others.
- 17:30Speaker 5: But Manziel could just yeah, I know I can make
- 17:33Speaker 5: two hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year from the couch.
- 17:37Speaker 3: Literally.
- 17:37Speaker 5: I know a lot of people on Instagram are telling
- 17:39Speaker 5: you they're making from the couch.
- 17:41Speaker 3: He could.
- 17:43Speaker 5: Tyson was doing them for a while, Okay. I remember
- 17:46Speaker 5: his run several years ago of doing.
- 17:49Speaker 7: Them stopped in twenty three years.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Okay, it may have dried up a little bit, Like
- 17:54Speaker 5: you said, when everybody was at home, Not everybody, but
- 17:57Speaker 5: when everybody when a lot of people were at home
- 17:59Speaker 5: for twenty four months, which is mind boggling and sad
- 18:06Speaker 5: and ridiculous and dumb. But uh, yeah, Tyson, I think
- 18:11Speaker 5: Tys was ripping.
- 18:12Speaker 6: For a while.
- 18:12Speaker 5: Oh, Jay Meadows, Yeah I do. Yeah, So thank you,
- 18:19Speaker 5: warrigal Rich. Let's go the Dancing Rabbit golf text line
- 18:23Speaker 5: watching on YouTube and Brandon he said, I watched Fletch
- 18:28Speaker 5: this weekend, so I will say chevy Chase.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Chevy Chase would be great.
- 18:32Speaker 5: I can't remember if he's still alive, and I apologize,
- 18:37Speaker 5: but chevy Chase, he's another one that could They could
- 18:41Speaker 5: generate tens of thousand dollars a month if he wanted
- 18:44Speaker 5: to doing cameos. Because also he speaks to the people
- 18:48Speaker 5: that have them most of the money, which is people
- 18:51Speaker 5: over fifty to fifty five sixty years old.
- 18:53Speaker 6: Because of his.
- 18:54Speaker 5: Saturday Light Live Fletch and Christmas Vacation and all the
- 18:58Speaker 5: other things that he stand up. Y'all know the drill.
- 19:02Speaker 5: But he's speaking to the people that have the most
- 19:04Speaker 5: disposable income. But then again, hell, if you're a kid,

- 21:30Speaker 5: back and watching it all the cutups.
- 21:32Speaker 3: It gave me goosebumps.
- 21:35Speaker 5: I had water in my eyes watching the Saints fans
- 21:38Speaker 5: emotional in Canton, Ohio. What he has meant to New Orleans,
- 21:42Speaker 5: the state of Louisiana, the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Jackson, Mississippi.
- 21:46Speaker 5: Don't forget training camp was here right Sean moved them
- 21:50Speaker 5: right up here, right down the road at Millsaps. I
- 21:52Speaker 5: remember going out there, and I remember watching Drew and
- 21:56Speaker 5: when he couldn't throw that first year, and it's just
- 22:01Speaker 5: a remarkable story of unprecedented success and everything that it
- 22:06Speaker 5: meant to the city of New Orleans after Katrina. So
- 22:10Speaker 5: we thought we would welcome in Johnny Blancher, who owns
- 22:15Speaker 5: the ye Old College in which was Drew Brees's favorite
- 22:20Speaker 5: restaurant in New Orleans, and he and Johnny became friends.
- 22:24Speaker 5: So Johnny Blancher joins us on ESPN one oh five
- 22:28Speaker 5: nine to the Zone. Johnny Blancher, good morning, How are you.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Good morning, bo. I'm doing great. It's fun to talk
- 22:36Speaker 2: about your again.
- 22:37Speaker 5: Absolutely. When was the first time you met Drew Brees?
- 22:41Speaker 2: Johnny, Oh, wow, you know it was early on and uh,
- 22:46Speaker 2: you know that first summer, just before you know, season's
- 22:50Speaker 2: kicking off. So I guess it's really, you know, two
- 22:55Speaker 2: years or so after you know, Katrina, we're really kind
- 22:59Speaker 2: of getting going and starting things are starting to pick
- 23:01Speaker 2: up again. And uh, and the you know, pulls up
- 23:05Speaker 2: right in front right around four o'clock. We opened at
- 23:10Speaker 2: four o'clock. I had my family in the restaurant. Actually,
- 23:12Speaker 2: they had come from school and they were hanging out
- 23:15Speaker 2: with us, and Drew Brees walks through the door, sits
- 23:17Speaker 2: in a bar table right there in the window by himself,
- 23:22Speaker 2: and he's looking around and he uh and he just
- 23:25Speaker 2: sort of looks at me and says, is this your place?
- 23:28Speaker 2: I says, yeah, yeah it is. And he says, man,
- 23:31Speaker 2: you guys, you guys are baseball fans. Huh. We have
- 23:33Speaker 2: a lot of memorabilia on the wall, but right there
- 23:35Speaker 2: in the bar is mostly baseball stuff. And I said,
- 23:38Speaker 2: I said, yeah, we're we're baseball fans. You guys don't
- 23:41Speaker 2: like football. I said, no, we like football just fine,
- 23:47Speaker 2: but yeah, we're we're baseball guys. He said. I said, uh.
- 23:52Speaker 2: I said, but you like baseball. You play baseball. He says, yeah,
- 23:55Speaker 2: I do like baseball. I said, your brother was pretty good.
- 23:58Speaker 2: His brother Reid had played it bailor, you know, and
- 24:02Speaker 2: actually was on a team in the College World Series
- 24:04Speaker 2: that b two lane, a local you know, local two
- 24:06Speaker 2: lane team. And he says, man, you know that. I
- 24:10Speaker 2: said yeah, and he is. Man, nobody knows how good
- 24:14Speaker 2: my brother was. Good Man, that's awesome. And we just
- 24:18Speaker 2: hit it off, you know. He started coming back regularly,
- 24:22Speaker 2: and you know, it's been really good to us over
- 24:24Speaker 2: the years, and I consider him a friend absolutely.
- 24:28Speaker 5: What a what an incredible story. So we're visiting with
- 24:31Speaker 5: Johnny Blancher, owner of the ye Old College in Drew Brees,
- 24:35Speaker 5: has talked about it for years. Many items on the menu,
- 24:38Speaker 5: including the country fried steak Poe Boy. Okay, yeah, Uh
- 24:45Speaker 5: was that so Johnny? Was that his go to from
- 24:50Speaker 5: the jump or did he kind of navigate his way
- 24:53Speaker 5: around your menu and get there eventually?
- 24:57Speaker 2: Yeah, So that was something that eventually to try reminded
- 25:01Speaker 2: him of him of home. You know when you get
- 25:03Speaker 2: you know, when you get over into Louisiana, there's not
- 25:06Speaker 2: a whole lot of country fried chicken fried steaks on
- 25:08Speaker 2: on menus, but uh, we we had been doing a
- 25:13Speaker 2: chicken fried steak on the menu since nineteen thirty three,
- 25:16Speaker 2: so the you know, the menu item had been around forever.
- 25:20Speaker 2: But you know, he tried, he did a lot of
- 25:22Speaker 2: things before he you know, found that, and he was
- 25:25Speaker 2: looking I think he was just looking for a shiner
- 25:27Speaker 2: box that night, and ah and something from home, you know.
- 25:32Speaker 2: So he had it and uh and loved it, and
- 25:35Speaker 2: he's he's mentioned it a few times over the years.
- 25:38Speaker 2: He also, uh would love to steer away. He you know,
- 25:42Speaker 2: he mostly ate without touching gluten. You know, he didn't
- 25:46Speaker 2: touch a whole lot of gluten, so he would he
- 25:49Speaker 2: would usually eat around the breads or the or the pastas.
- 25:52Speaker 2: But the other thing he loved was a crawfish mac
- 25:56Speaker 2: and cheese, which you know, I would at times call
- 25:58Speaker 2: it crawfish mac and Bree's in front.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Of him Johnny Good you know Johnny Blancher on the
- 26:09Speaker 5: Out of Bound show, friend of Drew Brees and Drew
- 26:13Speaker 5: loves their restaurant in New Orleans. Uh, it's on Carrollton
- 26:18Speaker 5: and uh, the story is amazing of how this all
- 26:21Speaker 5: played out.
- 26:22Speaker 3: So did he have the regular Joe vibe from the jump?
- 26:27Speaker 2: Johnny definitely. You know, he's got a gift of just
- 26:31Speaker 2: being a dude, being a first rate human. You know,
- 26:35Speaker 2: he he knows it's all authentic with Drew, you know,
- 26:41Speaker 2: and he he really did. You know, he's he mentioned
- 26:45Speaker 2: it in his speech, you know, how the camaraderie of
- 26:47Speaker 2: a team. Uh, you know, he would come to college
- 26:51Speaker 2: in with his offensive line. Uh, he would. He would
- 26:55Speaker 2: often come with you know, the other quarterbacks on the
- 26:58Speaker 2: on the team with him, they shouldn't have dinner together
- 27:01Speaker 2: and and you know, discuss life. I mean it wasn't
- 27:04Speaker 2: always just football. But uh, you know, had that had
- 27:08Speaker 2: that gift. He remembers names. You know, he he knew
- 27:11Speaker 2: my you know, the employees, the staff there, if he
- 27:16Speaker 2: if you waited on him once, he remembered your name,
- 27:18Speaker 2: you know, it's it was, It's real with Drew and
- 27:22Speaker 2: uh and that's why the city loved him. And you know,
- 27:25Speaker 2: I've always said that the city of New Orleans really
- 27:29Speaker 2: was never starstruck. You know they they you know, movie
- 27:33Speaker 2: stars come around. Everybody just kind of glances over and
- 27:37Speaker 2: just ignores and keeps going. Man, Drew Brees, he he
- 27:43Speaker 2: was on another level. People. Uh would just get so
- 27:47Speaker 2: giddy about seeing Drew Brees because he made it. He
- 27:51Speaker 2: made us all, uh feel great about ourselves.
- 27:54Speaker 3: Really sure, what was it like.
- 28:00Speaker 5: Trying to get your customers to give him space when
- 28:05Speaker 5: he would frequent your restaurant Yield College in on Carrollton
- 28:09Speaker 5: in New Orleans, Johnny.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I would try to make sure I'd get him
- 28:12Speaker 2: into a table fast. You know, it was because you know,
- 28:16Speaker 2: the whole the whole bar area everybody waiting. People would
- 28:20Speaker 2: would want to go talk to him and tell them
- 28:23Speaker 2: about his their favorite you know moment. So I would
- 28:27Speaker 2: certainly try to get him in there quick, and it
- 28:30Speaker 2: was important otherwise we would never get a chance to
- 28:33Speaker 2: serve and people would talk to him all night. But
- 28:35Speaker 2: once he once he got in a table, people would Yeah,
- 28:38Speaker 2: they really did leave him alone and let him, let
- 28:42Speaker 2: him just be a guy.
- 28:44Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:45Speaker 3: How walk me through.
- 28:47Speaker 5: So you meet Drew walks in one day to your
- 28:52Speaker 5: restaurant on Carrollton and your your post. I guess ten months,
- 28:58Speaker 5: twelve months, Katrino, walk me through reopening? I mean where
- 29:02Speaker 5: were you mentally? Did you know for sure y'all were
- 29:06Speaker 5: going to keep going? I mean, so during that timeline,
- 29:10Speaker 5: where was your restaurant in business?
- 29:12Speaker 3: And where were you mentally? Johnny?
- 29:14Speaker 2: Sure? Sure? So you know we I mentioned in nineteen
- 29:18Speaker 2: thirty three, we were around forever, but uh when in
- 29:23Speaker 2: three we you know, we bought from we bought you
- 29:26Speaker 2: old college in from the original founding family, the Roofing family,
- 29:30Speaker 2: and we already had the rock and bowl and we
- 29:33Speaker 2: were you know in food and beverage, but we were not,
- 29:36Speaker 2: you know, in dying, you know, full service dining. But
- 29:40Speaker 2: you know it's only two years in when Katrina hits,
- 29:44Speaker 2: we were wiped out. And you know, we rebuilt in
- 29:48Speaker 2: a building right next door that happened to be in
- 29:50Speaker 2: the older building, but it was on the same property, uh,
- 29:54Speaker 2: just because of the condition of the building. So when
- 29:56Speaker 2: we rebuilt that sucker and got it open and in
- 30:00Speaker 2: record time, we were the first flooded restaurant to reopen.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Now that you know, we had the benefit of having
- 30:07Speaker 2: a different building to go into, but we jumped in,
- 30:10Speaker 2: we got it open, uh, and it was it was
- 30:14Speaker 2: certainly a least a huge leap of faith we had
- 30:16Speaker 2: become you when we decided to do dinner only, because
- 30:20Speaker 2: everybody that was already open in the area was just
- 30:23Speaker 2: was doing launch only. So we decided, well, we'll do
- 30:26Speaker 2: dinner only and be the only place around for dinner.
- 30:29Speaker 2: And and that really did work the neighborhood, our neighborhood
- 30:34Speaker 2: that drew as a part of you know, he he
- 30:38Speaker 2: fortunately moved in to the neighborhood and was driving by
- 30:44Speaker 2: every day from you know, the practice facility back to
- 30:47Speaker 2: the back to his house. So uh, you know, there
- 30:51Speaker 2: was there was this thing in the air that you
- 30:53Speaker 2: know we're gonna make it. Uh it's gonna be okay,
- 30:57Speaker 2: don't know exactly how or why this city is gonna
- 31:02Speaker 2: come back again, but but it's going to uh you know,
- 31:06Speaker 2: once them Now later on, when the media, you know,
- 31:09Speaker 2: met Drew eventually mentions a couple of things in the media,
- 31:12Speaker 2: of course it helps us. You know, we uh gave
- 31:16Speaker 2: us credibility in certain circles and and we still to
- 31:20Speaker 2: this day have people from around the you know, country,
- 31:24Speaker 2: around the world that saw something about Drew Brees talking
- 31:28Speaker 2: about our restaurant and they end up in New Orleans
- 31:31Speaker 2: and they pop in and try it out.
- 31:34Speaker 3: This is incredible.
- 31:34Speaker 5: Johnny Blancher owns the restaurant Yield College in Drew Brees's
- 31:39Speaker 5: favorite restaurant in New Orleans on Carrollton. It's a beautiful
- 31:44Speaker 5: story about how they met organically and became friends and
- 31:50Speaker 5: uh Drew's support obviously helped them, and of course they
- 31:53Speaker 5: had the perseverance in the will to reopen after Katrina.
- 31:58Speaker 5: So you're you're getting open and getting your feet under you. Johnny,
- 32:02Speaker 5: right around the time he and Sean get dropped in
- 32:06Speaker 5: New Orleans. So and can you talk about once you
- 32:11Speaker 5: once y'all got going again, and the fact that they
- 32:15Speaker 5: went to the NFC Championship game in year one and
- 32:20Speaker 5: and Drew becomes a regular customer for you. I know
- 32:24Speaker 5: you touched on it a little bit, but what kind
- 32:27Speaker 5: of impact did that have on your on both your businesses?
- 32:30Speaker 2: Johnny, Well, I think it. You know, it has a doubt.
- 32:34Speaker 2: You know, the impact on the businesses is kind of downstream. Uh,
- 32:38Speaker 2: there's a confidence in the air in the city when uh,
- 32:44Speaker 2: you know, by the success of the team, there's there's
- 32:47Speaker 2: something to rally behind as a city that that was important.
- 32:54Speaker 2: I can't really express enough appreciation for what the Saints
- 32:59Speaker 2: ended up putting together with Drew and Sean and the
- 33:03Speaker 2: and the really the entire cast of of people. The
- 33:07Speaker 2: whole thing was first rate and and it really did
- 33:12Speaker 2: help propel us. There's an air of confidence in the city.
- 33:17Speaker 2: There's there's just some enjoyment. There's an escape from the reality.
- 33:22Speaker 2: I mean, you know, the whole world. I've told people
- 33:26Speaker 2: this in the past. If you if you were here
- 33:29Speaker 2: immediately after Katrina, there was a color of gray that
- 33:33Speaker 2: you didn't know existed. And I still can't really I
- 33:38Speaker 2: could never draw it. I could never tell you what
- 33:39Speaker 2: the color looks like. I couldn't pick it out on
- 33:42Speaker 2: a chart, but man, it was just this ugliness that
- 33:48Speaker 2: that that you thought was insurmountable. But over time, you know,
- 33:54Speaker 2: it became well, no, we can do this. And the Saints,
- 34:00Speaker 2: you know, helped us get through that. It was sure
- 34:03Speaker 2: and we you know, we did it together. We had
- 34:05Speaker 2: something that uh that A lot of that I think
- 34:08Speaker 2: some of the great generations over the course of time
- 34:11Speaker 2: have had, you know, where they had this common thing
- 34:14Speaker 2: to get behind, and for for us, it was the
- 34:18Speaker 2: it was the comeback, and the Saints were a huge
- 34:22Speaker 2: part of the comeback.
- 34:24Speaker 5: Johnny Blancher owns ye Old College in Drew Brees's favorite restaurant,
- 34:30Speaker 5: and it's on Carrollton. It's a beautiful story, one of
- 34:34Speaker 5: many with Drew and Shawn and and as Johnny says,
- 34:36Speaker 5: so many other players that impacted that were around town,
- 34:40Speaker 5: Pierre Thomas, Steve Gleeson. I mean, the list goes on
- 34:43Speaker 5: and on, and it was great to see so many
- 34:45Speaker 5: players over the weekend that actually went to Canton, Ohio
- 34:50Speaker 5: to celebrate Drew among others that couldn't make it and
- 34:53Speaker 5: talking about it on social media. I know you're running
- 34:57Speaker 5: you you know, so you're look running around twenty four seven?
- 35:01Speaker 3: You got more than one?
- 35:03Speaker 6: Are you?
- 35:04Speaker 3: Were you able to go to any Saints games? Johnny?
- 35:08Speaker 2: Oh sure, sure you Uh we we had you know,
- 35:13Speaker 2: friends that would go and uh you know, I would.
- 35:17Speaker 2: I would try to get out and go with those
- 35:20Speaker 2: guys and guys and uh as often as possible. The we,
- 35:27Speaker 2: of course were I had a couple of the big
- 35:30Speaker 2: games and and that was that was huge along the
- 35:33Speaker 2: way the Green Bay game that you know, and that
- 35:37Speaker 2: was that was a ton of fun. Uh So, yeah,
- 35:40Speaker 2: we were able to get away now and then, uh
- 35:43Speaker 2: but you know, mostly just watching and hoping, uh hoping
- 35:48Speaker 2: Drew would win. So that uh so we could see
- 35:52Speaker 2: a big smile on his face. Sure the week or
- 35:55Speaker 2: soon after, you know what was.
- 35:57Speaker 5: It like as as the Saints took off, So you
- 36:01Speaker 5: got to know him before he ever played a game,
- 36:03Speaker 5: and there was so much like it's interesting your story
- 36:07Speaker 5: in the city story was one of unrest. We don't
- 36:11Speaker 5: know what's going to happen, we don't know how this
- 36:13Speaker 5: is going to work. And Drew's coming off of an
- 36:16Speaker 5: injury in which he doesn't know if he's ever going
- 36:18Speaker 5: to be what he was.
- 36:21Speaker 3: And so once he.
- 36:23Speaker 5: He realized he could do it right and play in
- 36:26Speaker 5: two thousand and six at a high level NFC championship
- 36:28Speaker 5: game all that, and then once y'all all realized that
- 36:32Speaker 5: the hey, we're going to come back and we're going
- 36:34Speaker 5: to have success and we're going to do this thing.
- 36:36Speaker 5: What was it like three four five years later after
- 36:41Speaker 5: he had won a Lombardi Trophy and he was still
- 36:43Speaker 5: coming in Yield College in Johnny.
- 36:48Speaker 2: You know, it was still the same attitude. Uh. You know,
- 36:52Speaker 2: even after the Super Bowl, he's he had that uh,
- 36:59Speaker 2: that draw and you could still just see the energy
- 37:03Speaker 2: in him that it was a pursuit of of excellence
- 37:08Speaker 2: and and so you know, it really didn't change from
- 37:12Speaker 2: the moment I met in the intensity level you could
- 37:15Speaker 2: see in his eyes, the way he engaged uh in
- 37:19Speaker 2: the world that that just never changed. There was never
- 37:23Speaker 2: this relaxation of that that comes from uh. Oh I
- 37:27Speaker 2: already I've been there, done that. You know. The guy's
- 37:31Speaker 2: the guy's special intensity level special. And you know, I
- 37:35Speaker 2: thought in his speech he did an unbelievable job of
- 37:38Speaker 2: talking of giving a little bit of that progression. How
- 37:42Speaker 2: he learned over time, and I had never heard him
- 37:45Speaker 2: speak about that. I really appreciated the uh, you know,
- 37:49Speaker 2: the little piece about being in in film and deciding
- 37:55Speaker 2: to take full responsibility. Sure, wow, you know, but that tracks.
- 38:00Speaker 2: I mean, that's what I saw. Anim It was ultimate,
- 38:05Speaker 2: uh ultimate level of intensity and focus. And I, oh,
- 38:13Speaker 2: I'm grateful that I got many moments with.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Him, you know, no doubt.
- 38:19Speaker 5: Johnny Blancher, owner of the ye Old College In restaurant
- 38:25Speaker 5: on Carlton, Drew Brees' favorite spot and they became friends.
- 38:31Speaker 5: And I think for all of us it resonates that
- 38:35Speaker 5: Drew was just a regular guy when he would walk
- 38:37Speaker 5: in to Johnny's spot and stayed that way even through
- 38:42Speaker 5: all the success. Okay, so before we let you go,
- 38:46Speaker 5: we talk about food a lot on the show. And
- 38:52Speaker 5: by the way, my aunt owned restaurants Dante by the
- 38:55Speaker 5: River in New Orleans years ago and then Cafe at
- 38:58Speaker 5: Chathalayah which is now Chapelaya.
- 39:01Speaker 3: So I grew up going down there.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Fantastic.
- 39:04Speaker 3: Yeah, and i'ma have to dive into your place next.
- 39:07Speaker 4: Time we uh we were.
- 39:10Speaker 2: We would love to have you.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Bro.
- 39:13Speaker 5: And so it means a lot to me just reading
