Transcript
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer Podcast, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for creative success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Have you ever stopped to wonder why we sometimes don't do the things that we really want to do?
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: For many years, statistics have shown that at least eight out of every 10 people want to write a book.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Why then do so many people not follow through on their writing dreams?
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Well, that's a good question, but the problem is not just out there, it's in here too.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: We can think of times when we have shrunk back and didn't follow through on our goals.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Is it laziness, lack of discipline, a lack of talent?
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Well, it's probably none of those things.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: It's usually just an issue of self-doubt.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Even if the logical side of our brains tells us we can achieve it, self-doubt creeps in and we hold back.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: The novelist Sylvia Plath once said, and by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it and the imagination to improvise.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Self-doubt seems like a relatively mild concept, but honestly, let's just call a spade a spade.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: Self-doubt is just fear in disguise.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: We don't doubt ourselves because of any rational thought process.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: We're just plain old scared of failing.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: So take courage.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: If you're working on a big goal and you have a good plan for achieving it, don't get sidetracked by all those negative emotions.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: That fear you're feeling is just a ghost, it's a mirage, it's a phantom.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: There's nothing it can do to hurt you, and if you ignore it, it'll eventually go away and haunt somebody else.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: If you've been listening to this show for any length of time, you know that one of the four practices of a great writer is creativity.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: And in order to stay creative, you've got to have great input.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: And that's where writing prompts come in.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: A writing prompt is a sentence or two that helps you break through creative blocks, brainstorm new ideas, and get back into a state of flow.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Writing prompts are an awesome creative tool for journaling, storytelling, creative writing, stress relief, social media posts, and so much more.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: But the great news is that you don't have to create these yourself.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: We've put together an amazing package of 365 daily writing prompts.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: So every day for the next year, you can have a shot of inspiration delivered straight to your inbox.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: You can check it out at dailywriterlife.comslash writing prompts.
