- 0:00I'm still Tim Ripper Owens. I think no Kcase Priest k Case Priest is
- 0:08we're pushing Kcase Priests this time we are today, mate, how are you
- 0:11going, Jim? Thanks for joining us, brother, thank you, thank
- 0:15you. Ripper Owens, back at you again as always. It's always nice
- 0:19to talk to here. We we seem a top puite a bit now,
- 0:23don't we. We do. We're old mates these days. It's good to
- 0:26see. Yeah. Yes, so this time round, as you say,
- 0:32maybe we are here to talk about Kykse Priest and you guys are preparing to
- 0:37release your sophomore album, The Center Rides Again on September twenty nine. So
- 0:42yes, you know you're pretty experiencing the music industry. Mate, So what's
- 0:45this period like for you, like just waiting for the album to come out?
- 0:48Like do you put a debate and move on or you get a bit
- 0:51anxious or you know, I've done it so much now you used to be
- 0:56really exciting and then you still releasing so many records like I do. Then
- 1:02it loses a little bit. But but this one's back to being exciting again.
- 1:06I'm really excited. This is two records in a row. I've released
- 1:08with you know you and I talked about my solo EP, return to Death
- 1:12Row. We did that, but uh, you know, so that was
- 1:15a really exciting one. So I got back to back exciting records, and
- 1:19I'm really excited about this kkse Priest released because Cinerides again is just a great
- 1:26record. It's really really good. So I just cannot wait to get this
- 1:30one out. Look, you said, man, look, you still release
- 1:34music with other bands on your own solo stuff, But do you think there's
- 1:37a more pressure and expectation because it is an album from yourself and KK Downing?
- 1:42Oh, I think so. I think it is for me because I
- 1:46wanted to be usually like my last one, It's all the pressure is totally
- 1:51on me, and you want it to be good because it's your own.
- 1:55But but I want this to be successful and good for Ken, you know,
- 1:59I went it means a lot to him. He's worked really hard at
- 2:02it. So I want to be I want it to be great and I
- 2:05want to be on the top of my game. And so it's it just
- 2:08adds a little bit, a little bit more pressure to it, you know.
- 2:14Todate you release the singles. One more shot at glory rate the Whirlwind
- 2:17and Strike of the Viper. So would you say, overall it they're a
- 2:21good sonny representation of what do you expect? I do think so I think
- 2:25each songs a little bit different. You know. The last three songs on
- 2:30this record are are a little more epic. I mean, wash Away Your
- 2:34Sins, the last song on the album is very epic. It's probably my
- 2:38favorite. But I love it and I love the way each song has come
- 2:43out, and they're a little bit different. And you know, Strike of
- 2:45the Viper is such a great tune because it's just like two and a half
- 2:46minutes of just writing your face right, actually heavy metal. But yeah,
- 2:52I think it's it really represents the record of the first three songs. Yeah,
- 2:57of course everyone out there knows Yourself and the Night, but introduced us
- 3:00to the other three members of the band and tell us what they bring.
- 3:05The sand well, you know on the other guitar with Aj, you know,
- 3:12it's a friend of friend of ours and a friend of Ken's. Kin
- 3:14has been friends with him for years and worked with AJ's band Hostile, and
- 3:20and really he brings so much vocally too, and uh, you know he
- 3:24came with writing you know, ideas and stuff, and he's such a great
- 3:30compliment to Can guitar, and it's great to see those two. Tony Newton
- 3:36on bass. Tony he's he's all over the place, first of all over
- 3:40the place on stage, he's he's everywhere. He's he's just you know,
- 3:45he's just crazy going everywhere, and his playing is so good. But he
- 3:50also is smart with the with the music industry stuff and the mixing. You
- 3:54know, he does the mixing for for Iron Maidens live records, and so
- 4:00he's great with sound and so he brings a whole package. And the Sean
- 4:04el Go on drums as a friend of mine, you know, I brought
- 4:08in from Three Tremors and he's in Cage and does a lot of solo shows
- 4:13with me and toured with Ross the Boss and and he's just an outstanding drummer.
- 4:19And I'll tell you the band is so so put together and so talented,
- 4:25and people can see that from these lives shows that we have, that
- 4:29we've that we've that's out there now from all the concerts we've been playing,
- 4:31and it's just a great band now on the surface. Made this may sound
- 4:39like a pretty simple question, but I'd never think on it, like,
- 4:42how do your manage to keep the old school metal DNA in your music despite
- 4:46all the advances and temptations of modern music. Well, that's just what we
- 4:51do. You know, you want to you still want to keep your ear
- 4:56to things and make sure you you're not stuck in totally up in the in
- 5:00the eighties and just try to do exactly that. But you have it isn't
- 5:03our DNA. And this is what we do, you know, I mean
- 5:08I sing the way I do and and with kkse Priestman K K. Downing's
- 5:14writing with the songs, I mean, he's he wrote Juice pre songs for
- 5:19over forty years and and now everybody knows that how big of a party he
- 5:25was writing those monks because he just writes like kak. Some people say,
- 5:29hey, that's stuff. These songs kind of remind me of Juwis priestm.
- 5:31Like I think they kind of remind you of K. K. Downing.
- 5:33You know, this is a guy writes that. But this is what we
- 5:35do. And you know we're not young, We're not we're not out there
- 5:39reinventing the wheel. You know, we're we're we're metal heads. We write
- 5:43what we do and this is you know, it's it's it's too late in
- 5:46the game to try and do something totally different, but you got to stay
- 5:49fresh. And this new record is so it's got that connection with old with
- 5:55the old school and new school and new sound and aggressive, a lot of
- 6:00layers. So you know, you want to you just want to make the
- 6:03best records you can really and itself of course yourself and KK played on two
- 6:10Judas pre studio albums together with the Jugulator and Demolition Mate. So how is
- 6:15the process different back then? Writing together's for what it is now, but
- 6:21I can you know, we this, you know, I think the difference
- 6:28now is we're more of a We're more of a team. I think though
- 6:35he knows what the expect and he just says, do your thing, here's
- 6:40what I got, here's the songs, and I do your thing. It's
- 6:44but being together is just like old old times, you know. It's we've
- 6:48always maintained our friendships, so being together is just it just feels natural to
- 6:54be together. Uh, it's just on this record, we really all of
- 6:57us get to put our own thing into it. So it's it's you know,
- 7:00I've been around for a long time now. I mean I was newer
- 7:03back then, so I was singing exactly kind of what they wanted me to
- 7:06sing. And now he just gives me the ideas and I run with with
- 7:12my version of his ideas. Just the old chemistry comes straight back with you
- 7:17and him in the studio or do you have to sort of work out it
- 7:19before the album? Well? This this, this album I actually recorded at
- 7:26my house in Ohio. I recorded, I recorded there, so he So
- 7:30I think it makes it so much better myself because I got to spend a
- 7:33lot of time sitting in my studio and taking my time and doing things over
- 7:40again or different or changing it and putting layers on it. So I think
- 7:44that's the big difference with this record. So after the album drops, somebody
- 7:48head up for running shows in the UK and Europe, So tell us about
- 7:51those. Yeah, the shows were great, I mean, and festivals are
- 7:57usually harder to start off with, you know, when you're festivals are harder
- 8:01shows to play than your regular touring shows. But they were just amazing.
- 8:05I mean, the crowds were unbelievable and singing the k case pre songs and
- 8:13it's really really went over even better than I've ever thought. I mean,
- 8:16we sound just great, and the band's playing great, and the stage show
- 8:22and the Pyro. I mean, I'm really looking forward to touring the world
- 8:26with it. I mean we're trying really hard to put shows together, so
- 8:28it'd be nice to get to Australia and do a k Case Priest run of
- 8:35shows. I mean, it's it's been really great. I mean the crowds
- 8:37have been unbelievable, very cool. All right, Well, before we let
- 8:41you go started up our three Spotify playlists based on the artists that we speak,
- 8:46so using songs from any band that you've played with, including stolo stuff.
- 8:52Can you give us a song for a playlist to get the party started,
- 8:54one for a playlist to save your marriage, and one for a playlist
- 8:58that could potentially end your ridge, a song that would start a marriage and
- 9:03end a marriage. What you said, want to save a marriage and want
- 9:07to end a marriage? I want to save a marriage. Well I would
- 9:15say, yeah, that's sets uh. I guess you would you could pick
- 9:20one more shot at glory to save a marriage, and then I would say,
- 9:26yeah, I I guess if I was gonna to end it, I
- 9:30would just play wash Away your sins. If there was a song that says
- 9:35fuck you cunt, that would be money much all right, too much song
- 9:41in Australia. Listen, I would say my favorite words ever. Wait,
- 9:48I'm drinking coffee out of a cunt mug. And and just I'm sitting and
- 9:58Australia right now in the inktomba. Yet my girlfriend's drinking coffee out of a
- 10:07cunt mug in the mountains. So I'm almost like an Australian now, very
- 10:15good to hear, brother, All well, thanks very much for your time
- 10:18to night him. It has been the pleasure as per usual, Maiden.
- 10:20Hopefully you do bring kk's priests over here Shorely and we'll get into a few
- 10:24shows with you. Yeah, Chris, always good talking to you. And
- 10:28again hopefully I'll get your way and we can hang I know we say this
- 10:33every time we do an interview, but next time hopefully we'll come come your
- 10:39way and we'll hang out. Yeah, it's good to me, brother.
- 10:41You continue to take hand, mate, and keep smiling. All right,
- 10:43you got buddy,
