- 0:00Hello and welcome back to the Letterbox podcast, the place
- 0:04where people share the letters they've written in the moments
- 0:06of life that changed them. Before we begin, today's letter.
- 0:11If you've been enjoying these episodes, I'd love for you to
- 0:14follow the podcast, leave a review, or share an episode with
- 0:18someone who you think might enjoy it.
- 0:20Every share helps these stories reach the people who need to
- 0:24hear them. And these letters, they really
- 0:27deserve to be heard. This week on the letter booked
- 0:31broadcast, I'm doing something a little different because I've
- 0:36actually got 3 letters from one person and together these
- 0:43letters tell a story. The letters were sent to me by
- 0:48Ange. She's 41 years old and currently
- 0:52in the middle of completely rebuilding her life.
- 0:56Last year, she truly believed she had found the person she was
- 1:00going to marry. They spoke about marriage,
- 1:03children, growing old together, and all the ordinary moments
- 1:06make up life. She loved him more deeply than
- 1:09she'd ever loved anyone. But what she didn't know was
- 1:13that the relationship she believed she was in wasn't the
- 1:16relationship she was actually living.
- 1:20Angie told me that over time, she discovered repeated
- 1:24betrayals and secrets that completely shattered her trust.
- 1:28She also told me it's not the first time it's happened to her.
- 1:31But this was the most painful. Angie said something that really
- 1:35stayed with me and it was that walking away wasn't the hardest
- 1:40part. The hardest part was grieving
- 1:42someone who was still alive, whilst also grieving the future
- 1:46she'd already imagined for herself.
- 1:48During this season of her life, the letters became a way for her
- 1:51to make sense of her heartbreak, honour the love she'd had, and
- 1:55slowly find her way back to herself.
- 1:58And that is what this trilogy is about.
- 2:01The first letter is about letting go of someone she
- 2:04thought was her forever. The second is about
- 2:08rediscovering who she is after losing both the relationship and
- 2:12the identity she'd built around it.
- 2:15And the third, a letter to her future child, a reminder that
- 2:22even after immense loss, she still believes in love, hope and
- 2:28the family she dreams of creating one day.
- 2:33Since writing these letters last year, life's already started
- 2:36changing for Ange. When I was speaking with her,
- 2:39she was preparing to travel around Europe on her own and
- 2:42later this year said she's hoping to start a new chapter
- 2:44teaching English in South Korea. She said for the first time in a
- 2:49long time, her future feels unwritten again, and whilst that
- 2:53used to terrify her, it now fills her with curiosity.
- 2:57So Ange, thank you for trusting me with your words, and thank
- 3:01you for allowing your story to be shared.
- 3:04She hopes that someone, somewhere listening today hears
- 3:08this and realises that the end of 1 chapter doesn't mean the
- 3:12end of their story. Sometimes the life you grieve is
- 3:15simply making space for the one you never imagined.
- 3:21So let's open Angie's first letter.
- 3:27This one is dear Him, Dear him. I never loved anyone more than I
- 3:37loved you in this lifetime, but I also know more love is yet to
- 3:42come for me. For the longest time, I believed
- 3:48our souls had found each other. I thought that no matter how
- 3:52difficult our story became, somehow we would find our way
- 3:55back to one another. I believed love could heal what
- 4:00honesty could not. I believe patience could build
- 4:04what trust had already started to lose.
- 4:08I know now that love by itself is not enough.
- 4:16It took me a long time to accept that.
- 4:20I spent months replaying conversations, wondering which
- 4:25version of us was real. The man who held my hand, the
- 4:30man who told me I belonged with him.
- 4:32The man who dreamed about a future with me, or the man who
- 4:37kept parts of his life hidden until they found me instead.
- 4:43The hardest part was not losing you.
- 4:47It was losing the future I'd quietly built around us,
- 4:52aggrieved birthdays we would never celebrate together.
- 4:55Trips we would never take, a home that would never exist.
- 4:59Children. I imagined ordinary Tuesdays,
- 5:04tiny moments that never happened but somehow still broke my heart
- 5:09when they disappeared. I wanted so badly to believe
- 5:16that if I loved you well enough, deeply enough, consistently
- 5:20enough, we would become the story I thought we were writing.
- 5:25But love cannot carry two people when only one is carrying the
- 5:29truth. For a long time, I wondered if
- 5:33you ever loved me at all. Thank you for the love you gave
- 5:39me. Thank you for the lessons I
- 5:42never wanted. And thank you for showing me
- 5:47that the greatest love story I still have left to live is the
- 5:51one I will write myself. I don't hate you.
- 5:57I don't carry revenge in my heart.
- 6:01I carried love for too long to replace it with bitterness.
- 6:04Now what I carry instead is acceptance.
- 6:10Not because everything makes sense, but because I've stopped
- 6:13asking life to rewrite what already happened.
- 6:17I hope we both become people who no longer need to hurt others to
- 6:21survive our own pain. And if our souls ever meet again
- 6:28in another lifetime, I hope they meet with honesty first.
- 6:36I release us both with compassion, gratitude, and
- 6:43peace. And thank you.
- 6:49Thank you so much for sharing something that's so vulnerable
- 6:53and for writing about heartbreak with such honesty and also so
- 6:58much compassion. There's so much in this letter
- 7:01about love and grief and acceptance and choosing
- 7:04yourself, but also that ability to move on and let go, which is
- 7:09not easy. If you're listening today and
- 7:15any part of Angie's words felt familiar, I hope you know you
- 7:19really are not alone. This is only the beginning of
- 7:23Angie's story, and over the next two episodes we'll hear the next
- 7:27parts of her journey, the letter to herself, and the letter to
- 7:31the future child she still dreams of meeting one day.
- 7:35So please come back for those. They really are very special.
- 7:40If you'd like to support the Letterbox podcast, please follow
- 7:43the show, leave a review and share an episode with someone
- 7:46who you think might like to hear these.
- 7:50And remember, if you've written a letter, maybe one you've never
- 7:55sent or one you've kept hidden away, or one that you finally
- 7:58feel ready to share, I would love to read it.
- 8:03Thank you again for listening and I'll see you here for the
- 8:09next letter from Ange.
