- 0:01Speaker 1: All right, the fun Friday show we always have, Rarity.
- 0:03Speaker 1: We've been on the road the last two weeks. In
- 0:05Speaker 1: studio here, we're back out a couple of more times
- 0:08Speaker 1: as we work our way into October college football. We'll
- 0:11Speaker 1: get into what we saw last night here in a second,
- 0:13Speaker 1: both in the NFL and college football and in baseball. Congratulations,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Braves Nation, still online for a Rays-Braves World Series. We'll
- 0:22Speaker 1: talk about that here in the opening segment. We've got
- 0:24Speaker 1: headlines coming up. Our pick three is up and rolling.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Go at nextroundlive.com. Go to nextroundlive.com, nextroundlive.com. Brooks will throw
- 0:33Speaker 1: a link right about now into the chat so that
- 0:36Speaker 1: you guys can jump in there and play nextroundlive.com. A
- 0:40Speaker 1: lot of fun with that game. Last night in the
- 0:44Speaker 1: NFL first, how can I say this? I cannot imagine
- 0:50Speaker 1: a person, well, he wasn't always this way, right? And
- 0:53Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers was great on that final drive to make
- 0:56Speaker 1: it 24-24.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Boy, that one he dropped in D.K. Metcalf's hands. That's
- 1:00Speaker 2: as good a throw as you can make.
- 1:01Speaker 1: And the throw into the end zone for the touchdown,
- 1:03Speaker 1: throwing it behind him open, keeping the play alive at
- 1:06Speaker 1: his age, but.
- 1:07Speaker 3: It was still just all really good football.
- 1:09Speaker 1: But the time, the three and a half quarters before that,
- 1:13Speaker 1: when he seems to be just miserable when the game
- 1:16Speaker 1: is playing, every time, I don't watch him every week,
- 1:19Speaker 1: but every time I watch Aaron Rodgers play, I ask myself,
- 1:24Speaker 1: If you're so miserable, why are you still playing the game?
- 1:28Speaker 1: You've got enough money. You can walk away. He's MFing
- 1:31Speaker 1: the coach. He's get to play in. He's this and that.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Did you see what McCarthy said about him?
- 1:36Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:37Speaker 3: He has always been that guy. Yeah. Was he that
- 1:39Speaker 3: way in Green Bay, too? He was, yes. He just
- 1:42Speaker 3: was younger. He was just younger.
- 1:43Speaker 4: And better.
- 1:44Speaker 3: And he was so good that you just thought that
- 1:48Speaker 3: that was him.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I sat and watched that last night. And for some reason,
- 1:52Speaker 1: I was cheering for him. And the Steelers to win
- 1:55Speaker 1: that game. And I had no.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Wager on it or anything.
- 2:00Speaker 1: And I'm sitting there, I'm watching, I'm like, it is
- 2:02Speaker 1: turning into a miserable experience for me to watch you
- 2:05Speaker 1: play football. I don't understand how Pittsburgh fans are happy
- 2:08Speaker 1: about this, I guess because it's their best quarterback option.
- 2:12Speaker 3: But it was.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Miserable to watch that. him being so mad about stuff.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Now, what did Mike McCarthy say after the game? Not
- 2:19Speaker 3: after the game.
- 2:19Speaker 2: It was when Aaron Rodgers was yelling at him, just
- 2:22Speaker 2: call the effing play. And McCarthy, they cut to the
- 2:25Speaker 2: sidelines to show him And he says, what an effing a-hole.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Yeah, he said, what an effing a-hole. See, I didn't
- 2:32Speaker 3: see that. I watched the whole game.
- 2:33Speaker 2: You could clearly read that. It was almost like McCarthy
- 2:39Speaker 2: moved the mouthpiece and looked at the camera and said it.
- 2:41Speaker 1: You could sort of hear his audio saying it.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Who, Rodgers? Yeah, just effing call the play.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, clearly.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Just call it. Just effing call it. You can faint
- 2:50Speaker 1: hear it. And then you go to the sidelines, and
- 2:54Speaker 1: he's like, what an effing.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I mean, you can read it, Lance.
- 2:58Speaker 3: Clear as day.
- 2:59Speaker 2: You know what?
- 3:00Speaker 3: I was sitting there going, he is. He is. McCarthy's right.
- 3:03Speaker 3: You know, that is not good football teams. And I
- 3:06Speaker 3: said it yesterday. Like, at the end of the season,
- 3:08Speaker 3: we won't be talking about the Browns or the Steelers. Now,
- 3:10Speaker 3: the Browns can enjoy this. for the next at least
- 3:13Speaker 3: three days, they are in first place all alone in
- 3:15Speaker 3: the AFC North.
- 3:16Speaker 2: They are three and one with Deshaun Watson at quarterback.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I mean, it's pretty remarkable.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Deshaun Watson's not playing bad. I know. Yeah, I mean,
- 3:21Speaker 3: he's playing pretty good football right now. He's not played
- 3:23Speaker 3: football in forever. The defense, even without Miles Garrett, attacks
- 3:26Speaker 3: five sacks last night. But this Browns team, and they
- 3:29Speaker 3: talked about it on the broadcast, how penalized they are.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Fourteen penalties last night, and they still find a way
- 3:35Speaker 3: to win the game? That's crazy. I think that shows
- 3:37Speaker 3: you that Pittsburgh, who had eight penalties themselves, both had
- 3:40Speaker 3: two turnovers. Just not great football teams.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Not to take a shot, but they're, I think, two
- 3:46Speaker 1: and a half games. I don't know how to do
- 3:48Speaker 1: in football, but three wins ahead of Brown and me
- 3:50Speaker 1: and two wins ahead of you. You're correct on those.
- 3:53Speaker 1: They've got more wins than our three teams combined right now,
- 3:56Speaker 1: which is.
- 3:58Speaker 3: I would take it right now.
- 4:01Speaker 2: To be booed the way he was booed, and I
- 4:06Speaker 2: wish you could save receipts.
- 4:07Speaker 1: You can't in the world, right? There are people that
- 4:10Speaker 1: There are people that have complained about Kalen DeBoer in
- 4:12Speaker 1: Alabama that if they keep winning, we'll be cheering for
- 4:15Speaker 1: Kalen DeBoer in Alabama. And they threw him under the
- 4:20Speaker 1: bus several times along the way.
- 4:21Speaker 3: They've thrown him under the bus.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Trust me, if USC finishes this thing 11-1, you won't
- 4:26Speaker 2: be able to find all the Lincoln-Riley haters. All the
- 4:30Speaker 2: Lincoln-Riley haters. That ain't going to happen. Shane Beamer wins
- 4:34Speaker 2: the rest of them.
- 4:34Speaker 3: That's right. All these people wanting dollars.
- 4:36Speaker 2: You won't be able to find them.
- 4:37Speaker 3: You can't find them.
- 4:38Speaker 1: But I do wish... that Deshaun Watson was able to
- 4:41Speaker 1: keep receipts from the Cleveland fans that were cheering for
- 4:44Speaker 1: him last night to say.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Wait, wait, wait. Yeah, but you guys didn't want me.
- 4:47Speaker 3: It's on Deshaun, too.
- 4:48Speaker 5: Yeah, it is.
- 4:49Speaker 3: You know, Deshaun, you know, calling out his fan base,
- 4:52Speaker 3: I thought that worked both ways.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Yeah, he's the one that did the, oh, the ones
- 4:57Speaker 2: that booed me when I was down hurt those fans,
- 4:58Speaker 2: you know, that type thing.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Boy, and that is a great fan base that has
- 5:01Speaker 3: never had anything to cheer for. You know, I had
- 5:03Speaker 3: a buddy in town last night and we're watching the
- 5:05Speaker 3: game and You know, he brought up Ernest Biner and
- 5:08Speaker 3: brought up how good those teams were because, you know,
- 5:09Speaker 3: they haven't won a division since 1989. Was that an
- 5:12Speaker 3: AFC championship game, the Biner Fumble? It was, yeah.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Well, twice, but the Biner Fumble probably was the worst
- 5:17Speaker 2: of the two.
- 5:18Speaker 3: It was the worst of the two.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Because dude is going into the end zone.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Yeah, you can understand John Elway having that incredible drive,
- 5:23Speaker 3: but going in and fumbling. Yeah, I mean, he is
- 5:25Speaker 3: running into the Super Bowl and fumbles. Oh, I was watching, yeah.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I mean, it's just, you know it is. One of
- 5:34Speaker 2: Lance's greatest tweets of all time. was after the crazy
- 5:38Speaker 2: Arkansas Ole Miss play where Hunter Henry throws it over
- 5:43Speaker 2: his head and Alex Collins, the best guy of all
- 5:48Speaker 2: 22 that could possibly get it, gets it. Atlanta is
- 5:53Speaker 2: officially closed forever for Ole Miss. If they could make
- 5:56Speaker 2: it then, when were they going to make it?
- 5:59Speaker 3: That's what you see with the Cleveland Browns, and I
- 6:01Speaker 3: know that Todd Munkin said just a couple of weeks ago,
- 6:05Speaker 3: F that when Mike Tomlin said Browns being Browns. Yeah.
- 6:10Speaker 3: By the way, he sounds just like Super Dave Osborne.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Todd Munkin. Todd Munkin does.
- 6:14Speaker 2: He looks a little like him, too. Yeah, he does
- 6:16Speaker 2: kind of have a Super Dave Osborne look. I used
- 6:18Speaker 2: to think that was a real deal. I didn't know
- 6:19Speaker 2: that was an act. Did y'all watch Bizarre on Showtime?
- 6:22Speaker 2: I did not. But I used to see Super Dave
- 6:24Speaker 2: Osborne when he was making the night show rounds, like
- 6:26Speaker 2: when he was on Letterman. He and Letterman were hilarious together.
- 6:29Speaker 3: He was great on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Was Bizarre the mock, the sort of mockumentary
- 6:37Speaker 2: of late night talk where... Super Dave was on that show.
- 6:40Speaker 3: No, that was the Larry Sanders show. Bazaar was just
- 6:43Speaker 3: basically a sketch comedy show. They did a bunch of.
- 6:46Speaker 2: I think I did. I mean, he was like, get
- 6:48Speaker 2: shot out of a rocket. Yeah, but it was always
- 6:50Speaker 2: an obvious stuffed dummy. I mean, it was so obvious. Yeah,
- 6:55Speaker 2: I did watch that. I never knew the name of it.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Yeah, but that's Todd Monken sounds just like him.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I was waiting for Red Shoes Diaries that always came
- 7:02Speaker 2: on after.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm sure you were. Let's get this over with.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Let's get situated early so we don't miss anything. All right,
- 7:08Speaker 2: or Tales for the Crypt. One of those was on
- 7:10Speaker 2: after it, I can guarantee you. I guess Tales was
- 7:13Speaker 2: on HBO, wasn't it?
- 7:14Speaker 3: Yeah.

- 8:16Speaker 2: Browns the winner last night?
- 8:18Speaker 3: Yeah, so we're really heating up in the NFL. We've
- 8:20Speaker 3: won six of our last seven NFL plays. So, yeah,
- 8:24Speaker 3: we had the Browns plus two and a half last night.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Before we move away from the NFL here, this weekend's slate,
- 8:30Speaker 2: is there a game or two that pops for either
- 8:33Speaker 2: one of you that– our must-watch games this weekend, turning
- 8:36Speaker 2: point watershed games in the NFL.
- 8:38Speaker 3: I hate to make it about my Rams. What? But
- 8:42Speaker 3: Puka will be playing Sunday in Philadelphia. Much needed. It's
- 8:45Speaker 3: a big game. I was so excited about it. I
- 8:47Speaker 3: checked direct flights.
- 8:50Speaker 2: You're not going to Philadelphia? You can't be an opposing
- 8:54Speaker 2: fan in that stadium. Have you seen those videos? I
- 8:56Speaker 2: would not roll the dice. That may not be all
- 8:59Speaker 2: that rolls.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Looking for a fight. 6 a.m., But a direct flight
- 9:03Speaker 3: is over $ 1, 000 to Philadelphia.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Just leading the game?
- 9:07Speaker 3: That's just ridiculous. They have to pull that thing up
- 9:09Speaker 3: to the pump and fill it up before you fly.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I know. And gas prices are pretty high right now.
- 9:13Speaker 2: They're a touch high.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Europe's got it figured out.
- 9:17Speaker 2: How do they do it?
- 9:17Speaker 3: Oh, trains? No, I mean, you can fly anywhere in
- 9:20Speaker 3: Europe for basically $ 100. Not right now, but I bet
- 9:23Speaker 3: it's $ 150. I guarantee it's not close to $ 1, 000.
- 9:26Speaker 2: So you were thinking about flying to Philadelphia.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I was going to. Tickets are $ 400.
- 9:31Speaker 2: These videos pop up everywhere, but the way they treat
- 9:34Speaker 2: opposing fans in that stadium... I cannot imagine.
- 9:38Speaker 3: I've only gotten lip from Saints fans and Jets fans.
- 9:42Speaker 2: That is child's play compared to what the Eagles fans do.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Child's play. I've just seen videos of it.
- 9:48Speaker 3: It's awful.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Broncos 49ers. Interesting game with the 49ers health.
- 9:54Speaker 3: They're at home.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Broncos coming off of their big win.
- 9:58Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, same for Timberwolves. going to finally see
- 10:01Speaker 3: what looks to be an elite defense. I mean, the
- 10:03Speaker 3: Rams held them in check for the first half of
- 10:06Speaker 3: that game over in Australia.
- 10:08Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 10:08Speaker 3: But yeah, that's going to be a test for San Francisco,
- 10:10Speaker 3: especially health-wise where they are. Trent Williams will be back,
- 10:13Speaker 3: so that's good news for 49ers fans.
- 10:15Speaker 2: I mean, a game I didn't know would matter this
- 10:17Speaker 2: early in the season, but Chiefs at Raiders, and it's
- 10:19Speaker 2: in Las Vegas now. There'll be more Chiefs fans there
- 10:22Speaker 2: than Raiders fans, so... It's not as if the Chiefs
- 10:24Speaker 2: are having to go to a hostile environment.
- 10:26Speaker 3: But that number's only four and a half.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I know. I was about to say that.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Only four and a half.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, it is at least a road game.
- 10:31Speaker 2: I know it's not going to be hostile because, again,
- 10:33Speaker 2: you'll have probably more Chiefs fans than Raiders fans there.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Much like the Browns, the Raiders are definitely improved under
- 10:38Speaker 3: Clint Kubiak, but I don't know how good they are.
- 10:41Speaker 3: I find it hard to believe in December we'll be
- 10:43Speaker 3: talking about the Las Vegas Raiders.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Sunday night, the total is only 50 and a half,
- 10:49Speaker 1: but Lions and Panthers, that seems like an easy over
- 10:53Speaker 1: for me. I don't want to put the choir robe
- 10:55Speaker 1: on here, but the Panthers seems like they can score,
- 10:59Speaker 1: and they have a really hard time of stopping people
- 11:01Speaker 1: right now, and the Lions have a lot of weapons.
- 11:03Speaker 3: I think that's the only— there' s one other total in the 50s,
- 11:06Speaker 3: and that is Jacksonville and Cincinnati, 51-and-a-half. So, yeah, they're
- 11:10Speaker 3: expecting points in Carolina.
- 11:12Speaker 1: And then Monday night, this is why Joe Buck and
- 11:15Speaker 1: Troy Aikman get the big bucks. Atlanta and New Orleans,
- 11:18Speaker 1: down in New Orleans, two one-and-two teams on Monday night football.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Well, they've had some crap games the last two weeks, too,
- 11:23Speaker 2: on Monday night football.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Yeah, but the winner of that is going to be
- 11:27Speaker 3: in good position in the NFC South. The other one
- 11:30Speaker 3: I would bring up, just because they won the division
- 11:33Speaker 3: last year and they're struggling right now, the New England
- 11:35Speaker 3: Patriots in Buffalo, I could see Buffalo, if they get
- 11:38Speaker 3: an opportunity, really try to make a statement.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I think there are two teams. If
- 11:42Speaker 2: they lose, and I think you might have predicted both
- 11:45Speaker 2: of these, if they lose Sunday... you could start to
- 11:48Speaker 2: say there's really no path to the playoffs for them.
- 11:50Speaker 2: One is definitely the Chargers. At 0-4, I don't see
- 11:53Speaker 2: how you make a path to the playoffs. It was
- 11:55Speaker 2: Broncos and Patriots. Broncos and Patriots. But the Patriots are
- 11:58Speaker 2: the other ones. If they lose Sunday.
- 12:01Speaker 2: I mean, you do have to start saying, is there
- 12:03Speaker 2: a clear path to them recovering and making the playoffs?
- 12:05Speaker 1: And either the Cowboys are going to be 1-3 or
- 12:07Speaker 1: the Texans are going to be 0-4 because they play
- 12:10Speaker 1: each other. Cowboys and Texans this weekend.
- 12:12Speaker 2: So one of those teams is in that same group, too.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I mean, at 1-3, it's hard to dig out of that.
- 12:17Speaker 3: And that's what's so terrifying about a team like the
- 12:20Speaker 3: Rams that was billed by guys like Colin Cowherd as
- 12:22Speaker 3: going 17-0 in the regular season. If they start out
- 12:26Speaker 3: at 1-3 and they've got Buffalo next week, that's a problem.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Odds are stacked heavily against you at 1-3, but Chargers
- 12:31Speaker 2: could be 0-4. That's good to the Texans.
- 12:33Speaker 1: We'll get to the college football in just a second. Tyler,
- 12:39Speaker 1: can you just give me, I think we've got some,
- 12:40Speaker 1: do we have Braves locker room? I think we've got
- 12:42Speaker 1: some of that. I don't know if we have any
- 12:43Speaker 1: sound for us. Can you show me the celebration? Because
- 12:47Speaker 1: the Braves last night, it started, it was really over
- 12:50Speaker 1: with in the first inning. Here's the Braves. Right now,
- 12:53Speaker 1: the Champagne Jam going on. Atlanta Rhythm Section, by the way.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Atlanta Rhythm Section back in the 70s did the Champagne
- 12:59Speaker 1: Jam song. They did that in the locker room last night,
- 13:03Speaker 1: the celebration of them advancing out of the division series.
- 13:07Speaker 1: And the Braves get Michael Harris, Atlanta area native, hitting
- 13:10Speaker 1: a three-run homer in the first inning.
- 13:12Speaker 3: And then it was.
- 13:14Speaker 1: let the pitchers do their thing, and they end up
- 13:16Speaker 1: winning the game.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Well, I mean, you know, from Ray Kerr to Garrett
- 13:19Speaker 3: Holmes to bringing in Chris Sell for the four-out relief
- 13:23Speaker 3: appearance on one-day rest, the pitching was outstanding for the Braves. Yeah,
- 13:27Speaker 3: it was.
- 13:28Speaker 2: I don't know if you've– I was not watching at
- 13:30Speaker 2: the time, but I think Joey Votto is the commentator
- 13:32Speaker 2: on NBC. And right before that last home run, he's like,
- 13:36Speaker 2: you know, I mean, the Phillies, if they could get
- 13:38Speaker 2: out of this, I don't think the Braves are going
- 13:39Speaker 2: to score another run in this game.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Crack! There you go. Very timely.
- 13:43Speaker 1: I was wondering. The reverse of Nelser's jinx, basically. I
- 13:46Speaker 1: didn't get to see what had started that, but on
- 13:50Speaker 1: my social media, I was like, Why is everybody on
- 13:53Speaker 1: Votto right now?
- 13:55Speaker 2: I wasn't watching. I've just seen it on replay on
- 13:56Speaker 2: social media. But it is pretty funny. I don't think
- 14:00Speaker 2: the Braves are going to score another run here if
- 14:01Speaker 2: the Phillies can scratch back in this thing.
- 14:03Speaker 1: So in all seriousness, how much will baseball, like my
- 14:06Speaker 1: team is playing on Saturday and it will not, only
- 14:11Speaker 1: because of how bad the Saturday night slate, it'll make
- 14:14Speaker 1: one of my quad boxes. It may make a main
- 14:16Speaker 1: TV because Saturday night slate is pretty bad in prime time.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Miami and Clemson. BYU, TCU, Texas Tech, Colorado, Washington, USC.
- 14:26Speaker 1: There's not a good SEC game. Arkansas and A & M,
- 14:29Speaker 1: Indiana Rutgers. It is a rough late slate. So luckily
- 14:33Speaker 1: I can. My game's in prime time. I can put
- 14:36Speaker 1: the Yankees and Rays on one of my mains.
- 14:38Speaker 3: This will be maybe the first fall that the Dodgers
- 14:40Speaker 3: don't make a TV.
- 14:41Speaker 7: I mean.
- 14:44Speaker 3: It's gotten.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Kind of boring. See, the problem is you all play
- 14:47Speaker 2: the day game Saturday. If it were a primetime game,
- 14:49Speaker 2: you could justify it. But, I mean, right now, is
- 14:51Speaker 2: it going to be in front of Ohio State, Iowa? No.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Is it going to be in front of Auburn, Tennessee?
- 14:56Speaker 4: No.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Florida, Missouri? No.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Kentucky, South Carolina?
- 14:59Speaker 6: No.
- 14:59Speaker 3: Well, I might have a play on that game. Yeah,
- 15:01Speaker 3: so that's definitely a no. But I might be able
- 15:04Speaker 3: to find a split screen for it. Louisville, NC State.
- 15:08Speaker 3: I think I've got a play on that one. That's
- 15:09Speaker 3: an entertaining game.
- 15:10Speaker 4: Yep. Yep.
- 15:12Speaker 2: And really, in terms of, I mean, for Louisville, they
- 15:15Speaker 2: cannot afford to take on that second ACC loss. I mean,
- 15:17Speaker 2: with Wake beating them last week, for Louisville, that is... Yeah,
- 15:21Speaker 2: and this is where I kind of... You're going to
- 15:22Speaker 2: play the ACC championship.
- 15:23Speaker 3: I kind of saw Louisville's loss coming here, but because
- 15:25Speaker 3: they lost last week to Wake, I don't know if
- 15:28Speaker 3: they're going to lose back-to-backs, but I do agree it'll
- 15:29Speaker 3: be an entertaining game.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Wyoming, North Dakota State on the CW in the afternoon
- 15:34Speaker 2: window as well. I feel like you've got to play
- 15:36Speaker 2: in that one.
- 15:37Speaker 3: I don't. I lean North Dakota State. It's a really,
- 15:41Speaker 3: really good team, and they're going to play all year
- 15:43Speaker 3: long because they're not going to get the bump that
- 15:47Speaker 3: Boise gets with that brand.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Style points?
- 15:49Speaker 3: Yeah, they will play for style points.
- 15:50Speaker 2: So you think they'll run it up anytime they can
- 15:52Speaker 2: run it up.
- 15:52Speaker 3: They'll have an opportunity against Wyoming. Listen, I'm actually excited
- 15:56Speaker 3: that Alabama-Mississippi State's an 11 a.m.
- 15:59Speaker 4: Game.
- 16:00Speaker 2: That's exciting to me because there's not a lot of
- 16:03Speaker 2: huge games tomorrow.
- 16:04Speaker 3: But it's a big game, and this is going to
- 16:06Speaker 3: sound crazy, and people won't believe this. But I used
- 16:09Speaker 3: to absolutely love popping that first beer at like 10.30
- 16:12Speaker 3: in the morning. I kind of like to wait until
- 16:14Speaker 3: 2 or 2.30 now. But that's one of those games
- 16:16Speaker 3: that's so big it's going to force me to figure
- 16:19Speaker 3: out an adult beverage early on.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Well, I mean, if it's not 14 weeks in a row,
- 16:25Speaker 2: I mean, let yourself enjoy it.
- 16:26Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not worried about that. I just, you know.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Pretend you're watching the game in Ireland. It's a long
- 16:33Speaker 3: day when you start at 11 o'clock. It is. It is.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Especially because one of the more entertaining games of the
- 16:39Speaker 1: day is late night on Fox, Cincinnati, and Arizona.
- 16:42Speaker 3: I think that's going to be entertaining.
- 16:44Speaker 2: I agree.
- 16:44Speaker 3: I think the best game of the day outside of
- 16:48Speaker 3: Alabama-Mississippi State is Florida-Missouri. Should be.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Back-to-back on ABC, the SEC on ABC, but there's not.
- 16:55Speaker 3: A ton of fabulous games tomorrow. But every time we
- 16:58Speaker 3: do this. Oh, you're right. this is when the upsets happen.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Every time we do this, this is where the upset
- 17:04Speaker 2: comes out of nowhere and you're like, well, I didn't
- 17:06Speaker 2: see that coming. That was a great game, but boy,
- 17:08Speaker 2: I was not prepared for it.
- 17:09Speaker 3: All of a sudden, TCU over BYU. On that 11 a.m.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Window, you're sitting there going, God, North Carolina is going
- 17:15Speaker 2: to the fourth quarter and it's a one possession.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Game against Notre Dame.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Or Miami slops around that Clemson and, you know, late
- 17:21Speaker 2: fourth quarter, Clemson's got the ball with a chance to
- 17:23Speaker 2: take the lead. I mean, these are the.
- 17:24Speaker 1: 2.30, it's windy and rainy at Kinnick Field and Ohio
- 17:29Speaker 1: State's only up 17-9. They've turned it over four times,
- 17:32Speaker 1: and I was right in the game.
- 17:33Speaker 3: The kids are still waving. Do you think we could
- 17:35Speaker 3: figure out within a minute what Dabo's press conference postgame
- 17:39Speaker 3: will look like if he wins?
- 17:40Speaker 1: On the field with everybody, he will scream something of,
- 17:45Speaker 1: poor little old Clemson. You guys wrote us off.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Dead and buried. No, no, no. Here it is.
- 17:50Speaker 2: If Clemson wins this game, which they're not going to,
- 17:53Speaker 2: but if they do, he'll do the entire press conference
- 17:56Speaker 2: staring at Chappell. Somebody will ask him a question over there. Coach,
- 17:59Speaker 2: can you break down that last drive?
- 18:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I can break down that last drive. He won't say.
- 18:04Speaker 3: He'll call him by name.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Chapel.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Chapel, you want to break?
- 18:06Speaker 2: No, that's not what he'll do. Coach, can you break
- 18:08Speaker 2: down the last drive? Well, why don't we let Chapel
- 18:09Speaker 2: do it? Chapel knows football. Chapel knows football.
- 18:12Speaker 3: He ought to stand.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Barry Chapel, what did we do on that last drive? No,
- 18:15Speaker 2: it would start like this. Opening, it would be like, hey.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Good win for Clemson. That's about all I have to say.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Let's open questions. Chappell, you go first.
- 18:23Speaker 5: Hey, guys, I've actually got an update on the Chappell situation.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Wait a minute.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Don't tell me Chappell got laid off.
- 18:28Speaker 3: No, no, no. Okay, good, because there's a lot of
- 18:30Speaker 3: newspaper laying off. Did he get promoted?
- 18:32Speaker 5: Dabo and Chappell are on good terms now because Chappell
- 18:35Speaker 5: made the trip all the way out to Berkeley. So
- 18:38Speaker 5: Dabo started his weekly presser this week by complimenting the
- 18:43Speaker 5: media members who went all the way out to Berkeley.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Did he call Chappell by name? He did.
- 18:47Speaker 3: I'm going to assume Chapel went out there thinking what
- 18:49Speaker 3: I thought, that Clemson was going to lose that game.
- 18:52Speaker 7: He didn't say anything about the motive.
- 18:54Speaker 3: He wanted to be the only guy in the room
- 18:56Speaker 3: asking the questions.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Chapel was already spending that YouTube and Facebook for the clicks,
- 19:01Speaker 1: that check to go to Berkeley.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Cal wins that game. He was going to walk in,
- 19:04Speaker 2: Chapel's propped up with a cigar, just smoking.
- 19:06Speaker 3: I mean, it's amazing. They've got a winning record. And
- 19:08Speaker 3: the only way you can explain that is North Carolina
- 19:10Speaker 3: is not good and Cal's not good, but They're averaging
- 19:13Speaker 3: 21 points a game. That is the worst in the
- 19:16Speaker 3: FBS for a team with a winning record.
- 19:17Speaker 2: That's Clemson.
- 19:18Speaker 3: That's Clemson.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Not Oklahoma. No.
- 19:20Speaker 3: They don't have a winning record. That's true. They don't
- 19:22Speaker 3: have a winning record, yeah.
- 19:23Speaker 1: We'll start breaking down all the college football games coming
- 19:26Speaker 1: up in our next segment as we go. Todd Furman
- 19:28Speaker 1: will join us from Vegas, hour number two, 11 Eastern,
- 19:32Speaker 1: 10 Central. Headlines as well. We'll get to those probably
- 19:37Speaker 1: in about 30 minutes here on the show. And then,
- 19:40Speaker 1: of course, our pick three throughout the show at next.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Round, Not at Next Round Live.
- 19:43Speaker 1: It's next round live.com i do so much social media

- 20:12Speaker 1: do a wonderful job at Next Round Live on the

- 20:18Speaker 1: college football. And guess what? We'll start in Starkville, Bama,
- 20:22Speaker 1: and Mississippi State. One key player out of the game,
- 20:26Speaker 1: it looks like. We'll tell you who it is next
- 20:29Speaker 1: on the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet on
- 20:31Speaker 1: Sporting State. Back with you on the next round presented
- 20:34Speaker 1: by Hard Rock Bet on Sporting State. About to bounce
- 20:37Speaker 1: around with all the college football that is going on.
- 20:40Speaker 1: By the way, Braves now, you know, being a division champion,
- 20:44Speaker 1: finally getting a night game.
- 20:45Speaker 3: All they have to do is play the Dodgers.
- 20:47Speaker 1: I know the Brewers record and everything, but it does
- 20:50Speaker 1: feel like Braves-Dodgers, the best two teams in the National League.
- 20:54Speaker 3: You can make a case for the Brewers, I guess. Yeah,
- 20:56Speaker 3: I would say the Brewers for the length of the
- 20:59Speaker 3: 162 better than the Braves. But to get a feeling
- 21:02Speaker 3: the winner of this will be favored in that next series.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Meanwhile, I don't understand how they do it in Major
- 21:08Speaker 1: League Baseball. The best two American League teams are playing
- 21:10Speaker 1: each other in Tampa tomorrow night. And the consolation series,
- 21:15Speaker 1: White Sox-Guardians, start tomorrow as well, I believe.
- 21:18Speaker 3: Right, Forrester?
- 21:20Speaker 7: At noon. And it will have a TV at my house.
- 21:24Speaker 1: So you get a straight out of game day, White
- 21:27Speaker 1: Sox Guardians.
- 21:28Speaker 7: Yeah, I think I've got to get Sling for a day.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Poor Scott.
- 21:33Speaker 7: Because it's on, I think, TruTV.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Are you kidding me?
- 21:37Speaker 7: I believe.
- 21:38Speaker 3: TruTV or HBO Max. Scotty, but it feels kind of
- 21:43Speaker 3: like the Guardians year. I don't know why.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Pssh.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Pssh.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Scott says.
- 21:48Speaker 7: Get out.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Hey, before we jump in game to game, let me
- 21:52Speaker 1: tell you about our friends at Crockett Coffee. And then
- 21:54Speaker 1: I want to ask a question about swapping coaches. This
- 21:57Speaker 1: was in Stuart Mandel of the Athletics Mailbag this week.
- 22:02Speaker 1: And I'm going to pose a question off of that
- 22:04Speaker 1: after I remind you that if you are waking up
- 22:06Speaker 1: in the morning and you enjoy coffee, but you're not
- 22:09Speaker 1: maybe in love with your brand, maybe you're ready to
- 22:12Speaker 1: try something fresher, new and made and roasted right here
- 22:16Speaker 1: in America. That's our friends with Crockett Coffee, named after
- 22:20Speaker 1: Davy Crockett, started by Clay Travis, Buck Sexton, Buck's brother Mason.
- 22:25Speaker 1: It is roasted, small batch roasted, right here in America's heartland.
- 22:29Speaker 1: It ships fresh roasted, never sitting in a warehouse for
- 22:32Speaker 1: six months. You can get it however you like it, organic,
- 22:35Speaker 1: mushroom blend, decaffeinated, dark, medium, light roasted. You can get
- 22:38Speaker 1: it whole bean ground, however you want it.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Set up a subscription.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Comes every month on schedule or bi-weekly, every week, however.
- 22:45Speaker 3: You want it.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Ships free for orders that are over $ 59. And Crockett
- 22:50Speaker 2: partners with Tunnel to Towers, building mortgage-free homes for the
- 22:54Speaker 2: families of fallen service members and for those injured veterans
- 22:58Speaker 2: and first responders. It's good coffee, made in America, doing
- 23:01Speaker 2: some good. CrockettCoffee.com. CrockettCoffee.com. C-R-O-C-K-E-T-T. CrockettCoffee.com. The question was asked
- 23:12Speaker 2: of Stuart. What if you took a coach... like John Summerall,
- 23:17Speaker 2: and he was coaching Texas A & M, and if
- 23:20Speaker 2: Mike Elko was coaching Florida with the same pieces you
- 23:24Speaker 2: have right now on those teams, would the game, would
- 23:29Speaker 2: those seasons look different right now?
- 23:31Speaker 3: Well, the circumstances are so different, it's a little difficult
- 23:34Speaker 3: because I think Summerall came in and whatever guys he
- 23:38Speaker 3: had remaining, the guys like Jaden Ball, he told them
- 23:40Speaker 3: how good they can be and how, you know, maybe
- 23:44Speaker 3: how they weren't coached the right way. So I think
- 23:46Speaker 3: it was like year one, hey, we can do something.
- 23:50Speaker 3: On the other side, I think Elko's bunch, the guys
- 23:53Speaker 3: that didn't go to the NFL, maybe they got fat
- 23:55Speaker 3: and happy a little bit. So the circumstances are so different,
- 23:59Speaker 3: it's hard to say.
- 24:00Speaker 2: I'm about to play into the narrative that I have
- 24:02Speaker 2: made fun of, but is Buster Faulkner at Texas A &
- 24:06Speaker 2: M with John Summerall?
- 24:08Speaker 3: I would imagine the coaching staff swap.
- 24:12Speaker 2: So Faulkner, I'm going to assume Buster Faulkner, inventor of offense,
- 24:18Speaker 2: could get more out of Marcel Reed than first-time play
- 24:20Speaker 2: caller Holman Wiggins has. Now, I don't know who you
- 24:24Speaker 2: guys think is the better of the two quarterbacks. Certainly
- 24:26Speaker 2: Aaron Filo looks better this year than Marcel Reed, but
- 24:30Speaker 2: If they were both getting the best coaching possible, do
- 24:32Speaker 2: you think Philo's that much better than Marcel Reed? I
- 24:34Speaker 2: wouldn't think so. I wouldn't think so either, so I
- 24:37Speaker 2: would think Buster Faulkner's offense could probably get a little
- 24:39Speaker 2: more out of him.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Florida's offensive line is playing tremendous, but it felt like
- 24:44Speaker 1: coming in that Texas A & M was a.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Pretty good group, right?
- 24:46Speaker 3: We're basically just saying who's the better coach. I think
- 24:49Speaker 3: Summerall probably is, but I still think Elko's a really
- 24:52Speaker 3: good coach.
- 24:52Speaker 2: This gets brought up a lot in the chat when
- 24:55Speaker 2: we talk about Texas A & M, so I'll bring
- 24:56Speaker 2: it up here. When you talk about their offensive line,
- 24:59Speaker 2: is Alabama's offensive line year over year better.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Than Texas A & M' s?
- 25:03Speaker 2: Or excuse me, is Alabama's line year over year better
- 25:05Speaker 2: than their line last year?
- 25:08Speaker 3: Would you say yes?
- 25:08Speaker 4: Yes.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Is Alabama's line better than Alabama's line last year?
- 25:12Speaker 4: Yes.
- 25:12Speaker 2: And a lot of people point out Wilkin Fornby is starting.
- 25:15Speaker 2: He left Alabama's offensive line and is starting at Texas
- 25:17Speaker 2: A & M. And Alabama's line has improved significantly. And
- 25:21Speaker 2: A & M' s offense is not. Now, you cannot pin
- 25:23Speaker 2: all that on Wilkin for me.
- 25:25Speaker 3: No, not at all.
- 25:25Speaker 2: But you do kind of question their offensive line with
- 25:28Speaker 2: that being the case. Okay, let me do a couple
- 25:30Speaker 2: of others. Let me go Steve Sarkeesian and Brent Venables.
- 25:35Speaker 2: They play each other next week. But if Sark and
- 25:38Speaker 2: his coaching staff, with the same pieces that are in Norman,
- 25:42Speaker 2: if he was there and Venables with his same coaching staff,
- 25:46Speaker 2: Arbuckle and those guys, were with Arch and Auston, would
- 25:51Speaker 2: the outcomes be different than what we've seen so far?
- 25:55Speaker 3: I don't know if they would be because the Texas
- 25:58Speaker 3: offense is broken right now. Obviously, Oklahoma doesn't have an offense.
- 26:03Speaker 3: The defenses are right there on par with each other.
- 26:06Speaker 3: So you don't think Sark's play calling could make Mateer
- 26:08Speaker 3: a little better?
- 26:09Speaker 2: No, I mean, he can't even make Manning better.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, right.
- 26:12Speaker 2: I mean, is Arch Manning a better quarterback than John Mateer?
- 26:14Speaker 2: I know you're down on Manning, but he's better than Mateer.
- 26:16Speaker 2: He is better than Mateer. And you can't even get... Okay,
- 26:18Speaker 2: so I was wondering if you thought Mateer was better
- 26:21Speaker 2: than Arch.
- 26:21Speaker 3: No, Arch is better.
- 26:23Speaker 2: I mean, you can't even get high-level play out of
- 26:25Speaker 2: Arch consistently.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Yeah, because I've seen Arch at a high level in
- 26:28Speaker 3: the SEC. I saw it last November. I really have
- 26:31Speaker 3: never seen that from a tier. I saw it at
- 26:32Speaker 3: a high level with Wazoo. But, you know, that's apples
- 26:35Speaker 3: and oranges, really, when you think about it. I have
- 26:37Speaker 3: one more.
- 26:37Speaker 1: I would love to hear any from you guys if
- 26:39Speaker 1: you have one. But what if Bob Chesney was coaching
- 26:44Speaker 1: USC and his coaching staff and Lincoln Riley and his
- 26:48Speaker 1: staff was at UCLA? Would it still be the same?
- 26:51Speaker 1: Would it be any different?
- 26:52Speaker 3: It would be different. The culture is broken right now
- 26:56Speaker 3: at USC, I believe. And UCLA is more talented than
- 26:59Speaker 3: we give them credit for. I mean, it is a
- 27:02Speaker 3: night and day, I don't want to say roster, just
- 27:04Speaker 3: the feel when you watch UCLA this year. But I
- 27:07Speaker 3: think Bob Chesney can infuse that at USC, and they've
- 27:10Speaker 3: got tremendous athletes. And they're just probably going to waste them.
- 27:15Speaker 3: I meant to play USC in my pick three, and
- 27:17Speaker 3: I didn't play them.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Well, we hadn't.
- 27:19Speaker 3: You haven't even done the segment yet. Yeah, I know.
- 27:20Speaker 3: I've really, I've drawn my thing. You got an eraser.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Yeah, race it and go USC if you feel that
- 27:26Speaker 2: strongly about it. And how have your last minute cuts been?
- 27:29Speaker 2: I haven't done any last minute cuts on the pick three.
- 27:31Speaker 2: So you just find three and go with them. I've
- 27:33Speaker 2: sucked on the pick three. But I'd like USC to
- 27:37Speaker 2: bounce back this weekend. Well, I mean, it's a good
- 27:39Speaker 2: bounce back spot against Washington. Washington is not a good
- 27:42Speaker 2: team this year.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Because everybody has thrown them under the bus and.
- 27:47Speaker 3: USC.
- 27:47Speaker 1: They've thrown him under the bus. They've written him off
- 27:49Speaker 1: for dead. And I mean, that was a really good
- 27:52Speaker 1: Oregon team. They lost two. And I know it was
- 27:55Speaker 1: the backup quarterback and that added two. But a lot
- 27:59Speaker 1: of the arrows that have been thrown at USC this week,
- 28:02Speaker 1: I think, has all been off of that hit on
- 28:05Speaker 1: the quarterback and the reaction of the team and the
- 28:08Speaker 1: fact that a backup quarterback came in and beat you.
- 28:11Speaker 1: That's a Good Oregon team that beat, I think, a
- 28:14Speaker 1: good USC team. And I'm with you. I don't know
- 28:16Speaker 1: what Washington is. I've watched them twice now.
- 28:19Speaker 3: I've watched them.
- 28:20Speaker 1: For some reason, they were on my TV against Utah State.
- 28:23Speaker 1: And they were on my TV against Wazoo. And in
- 28:26Speaker 1: both of those games, they struggled to beat those teams.
- 28:32Speaker 1: And then they lost last week. They were on my TV, Minnesota, right?
- 28:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:35Speaker 3: They ran the ball 27 times for 40 yards. Yeah.
- 28:38Speaker 3: Now I know some of this is factored in, but
- 28:41Speaker 3: DeMond Williams was sacked seven times. I mean, the offensive
- 28:44Speaker 3: line's playing poorly. They can't run the football. Denzel Boston,
- 28:47Speaker 3: you saw him last night. He leads all rookies right now,
- 28:51Speaker 3: receivers in the NFL for the Browns with receiving yards
- 28:54Speaker 3: and touchdowns. So they're missing him too. I just, I
- 28:58Speaker 3: can't believe they've fallen off as much as they have.
- 28:59Speaker 3: So This is a get-right spot for USC, but on
- 29:02Speaker 3: the other side, if I'm Washington, I believe I can
- 29:05Speaker 3: get right against this defense. I mean, you think about
- 29:07Speaker 3: the last three games out, 35-35 and 41, this defense
- 29:10Speaker 3: has given up. You can't win games like that. I
- 29:12Speaker 3: am going to change it. I'm going to lose one
- 29:14Speaker 3: of my teams. I'm taking USC. I'm all in on them.
- 29:16Speaker 3: I'm all in on USC. Just dove right in. I
- 29:19Speaker 3: hope you're right.
- 29:20Speaker 2: DeMond Williams, though, is still throwing for 282 a game,
- 29:23Speaker 2: seven touchdowns, three picks. I mean, for those that may
- 29:26Speaker 2: not remember, he is the guy. that almost ended up
- 29:29Speaker 2: at LSU, right? I mean, that was the guy that
- 29:31Speaker 2: when it looked like he was willing to leave Washington,
- 29:34Speaker 2: there were many that thought Sam Leavitt was about to
- 29:36Speaker 2: get left out in the cold while he was sitting
- 29:38Speaker 2: courtside at a LSU basket. game.
- 29:40Speaker 3: I think DeMond Williams is good. I really do. I
- 29:42Speaker 3: do too.
- 29:43Speaker 1: I'm just making the point that Washington's... Two brutal interceptions
- 29:46Speaker 1: against Minnesota last week.
- 29:48Speaker 2: He's only thrown three all year. Those are two of
- 29:51Speaker 2: his three. You're right. They were bad. I don't think
- 29:54Speaker 2: he's played awful. Again, 282 a game is not bad.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Let's talk a little Alabama-Mississippi State here as we get
- 30:01Speaker 1: ready for that game.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Brown, check that forecast for us. Oh, I got an update.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Okay, give me the update after. Tyler, if you would, man,
- 30:09Speaker 1: give me cut number four from Ryan Grubb, Alabama's offensive coordinator.
- 30:15Speaker 1: He gets asked what the reaction is when they're watching
- 30:19Speaker 1: film and the tight end blows up a defender. The
- 30:22Speaker 1: Alabama tight end room is becoming such an asset. Three
- 30:25Speaker 1: guys who can not only catch the football, but they
- 30:29Speaker 1: become a very important part in the blocking game. Here's
- 30:32Speaker 1: the Alabama offensive coordinator.
- 30:35Speaker 5: When you guys are watching film, just what's the reaction
- 30:38Speaker 5: like from guys when you watch a clip of a
- 30:40Speaker 5: tight end just like demolishing an opposing player?
- 30:42Speaker 2: How do the guys respond?
- 30:43Speaker 6: They go crazy.
- 30:44Speaker 3: They go crazy.
- 30:45Speaker 6: I think that that's, again, that's an energy that that
- 30:48Speaker 6: room has brought to the offense. I think you always
- 30:51Speaker 6: want that from your offensive line and things like that,
- 30:53Speaker 6: but just as a group, That's been all the way
- 30:56Speaker 6: back to spring ball, how they practice and how they
- 30:59Speaker 6: fit people. That energy when they feel that on the
- 31:02Speaker 6: field and they actually can go finish a guy off
- 31:04Speaker 6: is something that really gets the guys revved up.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Don't you have a feeling, and this is just the
- 31:11Speaker 1: way it works in sports sometimes, that there's so much
- 31:14Speaker 1: being made about Camario versus Keelan that somehow the run game,
- 31:19Speaker 1: whether it's Alabama's or fluff for Mississippi State, that somehow
- 31:22Speaker 1: the run game is going to end up playing a
- 31:25Speaker 1: major part of this game. That fluff is going to
- 31:29Speaker 1: have 110 yards, and if Mississippi State wins the game,
- 31:33Speaker 1: or Alabama's Daniel Hill or Crowell is going to have
- 31:37Speaker 1: a big game with a couple of big runs that
- 31:40Speaker 1: flips it for Alabama. That's not going to be the
- 31:41Speaker 1: two great quarterbacks. It's going to somehow be the run game.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Well, I think that's one of the reasons that State
- 31:46Speaker 3: has had a lot of success is because they have
- 31:48Speaker 3: effectively run the football. I mean, they're converting 51% of
- 31:51Speaker 3: their third downs, which... is the best mark right now
- 31:54Speaker 3: in the SEC because a lot of this has been
- 31:56Speaker 3: third manageable. So I think fluff is a big part
- 31:59Speaker 3: of that. I do think both these quarterbacks are going
- 32:03Speaker 3: to play really well tomorrow. But I need to hear
- 32:05Speaker 3: my weather update.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Okay, you ready? Ready for the weather? Let's go to
- 32:08Speaker 2: the weather.
- 32:09Speaker 3: I was going to say last night I thought good news,
- 32:12Speaker 3: so go ahead.
- 32:13Speaker 2: James Spann, for those that are watching outside of Birmingham,
- 32:17Speaker 2: James Spann is a local meteorologist who every week does
- 32:21Speaker 2: a football forecast on social media. So it's very helpful, actually.
- 32:24Speaker 2: If you're going to the games, he does all the
- 32:26Speaker 2: local games. And oftentimes the Alabama coaching staff. Yeah, he
- 32:31Speaker 2: works with Alabama. In fact, now he was very, very,
- 32:34Speaker 2: very eager to point out he has nothing to do
- 32:37Speaker 2: with the decisional lightning delays. He was like, that is
- 32:39Speaker 2: completely out of my jurisdiction. All I do is Give
- 32:42Speaker 2: them weather forecast. I do not have anything to do
- 32:45Speaker 2: with lightning delays. In fact, he was a little bit
- 32:48Speaker 2: critical of that second lightning delay, somewhat like Danny Connell was,
- 32:51Speaker 2: of that second lightning delay in the Alabama-Florida State game.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Here's what he says.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Alabama travels to Starkville to take on Mississippi State tomorrow.
- 33:01Speaker 2: This is three hours ago, so this morning. Updated forecast.
- 33:05Speaker 2: A shower is certainly possible, but much of the game
- 33:08Speaker 2: should be rain-free temps in the 80s.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Yep.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Same for Auburn, by the way, in case you're curious.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Auburn and Knoxville, same exact forecast. They shower as possible,
- 33:17Speaker 2: but much of the game rain free. And that's good news.
- 33:21Speaker 2: I was told if it's going to happen, it would
- 33:23Speaker 2: be in the fourth quarter. Oh, boy, that's not what
- 33:26Speaker 2: you want. Tight game late and starts to rain. That's
- 33:29Speaker 2: going to change things.
- 33:30Speaker 3: But we'll see.
- 33:30Speaker 1: We'll see if rain impacts the game at all. Fluff Bothwell,
- 33:34Speaker 1: by the way. Not just a runner, 122 last week
- 33:38Speaker 1: in that big win over Missouri, but he caught six
- 33:40Speaker 1: balls for 55, including a receiving touchdown. So a pretty
- 33:44Speaker 1: good effort there. First person for Mississippi State since, excuse me,
- 33:49Speaker 1: the sixth person since 1995, but that's a long time ago,
- 33:52Speaker 1: to have over 120 rushing, over 50 receiving in the
- 33:57Speaker 1: same contest for Mississippi State, Alabama. Here's Jeff Levy on
- 34:01Speaker 1: getting ready for the other half of this huge showdown
- 34:04Speaker 1: of quarterbacks.
- 34:05Speaker 3: Talking about Keelan Russell.
- 34:07Speaker 6: Keelan Russell's another young quarterback who's starting to come to
- 34:10Speaker 6: his own.
- 34:11Speaker 2: What's it going to take for this defense to prevent
- 34:13Speaker 2: him from getting comfortable this weekend? Yeah, we are.
- 34:15Speaker 4: We're going to have to move him off the spot.
- 34:16Speaker 4: We're going to have to do a great job tackling.
- 34:18Speaker 4: That's going to be a huge piece of it. And
- 34:21Speaker 4: he has. He's played really, really well. He's been incredibly productive.
- 34:25Speaker 4: There's been explosive plays. He's got great talent around him.
- 34:29Speaker 4: And so for us, it is, man. It's going to
- 34:31Speaker 4: be about applying pressure. getting our fans really involved and
- 34:35Speaker 4: excited about what's going on in between those white lines.
- 34:38Speaker 3: If Tim Tebow had an uncle that didn't have his
- 34:41Speaker 3: same gym membership, can you see it a little bit?
- 34:43Speaker 2: Well, him standing in right here, you think he's coaching
- 34:46Speaker 2: Mississippi State baseball?
- 34:48Speaker 3: Yeah, he looks like a coach. If you say, what's
- 34:51Speaker 3: this guy do for the coach? Yeah, I don't know.
- 34:54Speaker 3: I mean, he's a likable guy, and he really hadn't
- 34:57Speaker 3: done much, but they seem to have turned the corner.
- 34:59Speaker 2: This will change everything for him. A win Saturday. You
- 35:02Speaker 2: heard it with Matt Wyatt yesterday. If you missed that
- 35:04Speaker 2: interview on the back half of our show yesterday, go
- 35:07Speaker 2: watch it on demand on YouTube at Next Round Live.
- 35:11Speaker 2: Matt basically was like, this would not just be a win.
- 35:15Speaker 2: You're beating Bama. I mean, that carries weight in Starkville. Well,
- 35:18Speaker 2: you think about their history.
- 35:19Speaker 3: They faced, and I just saw this, they faced his
- 35:22Speaker 3: rank versus rank 14 times. Do you know what the
- 35:25Speaker 3: record is for Alabama? All right, ranked versus ranked. When
- 35:28Speaker 3: both of them are ranked? Yeah, when both are ranked.
- 35:30Speaker 3: When State and Bama are both ranked? I think it's 14-0.
- 35:33Speaker 3: It's 14-0.
- 35:34Speaker 2: So they've never beat Bama as a ranked team?
- 35:36Speaker 3: No, never. Well, when Bama and Mississippi State... No, I'm saying.
- 35:39Speaker 2: State as a ranked team has never beaten Bama.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Yeah, there were times... When they're both ranked.
- 35:42Speaker 1: There were times when Jackie Shirell was there that State
- 35:45Speaker 1: was ranked and Bama was not.
- 35:46Speaker 2: When they're both ranked, State has never won. That's pretty crazy.
- 35:49Speaker 1: The time they thought in 2014, which may be the
- 35:53Speaker 1: last time they were both ranked, but in 2014 when
- 35:56Speaker 1: Dak brought them to Tuscaloosa. That's when they thought it
- 36:00Speaker 1: was their time to play for a national championship. That
- 36:04Speaker 1: was going to be their last bump in the road
- 36:06Speaker 1: to make it to the playoffs, it appeared.
- 36:07Speaker 3: I still think Mississippi State, I lean that they're going
- 36:10Speaker 3: to win this game. Not cover, but win outright. But man,
- 36:17Speaker 3: the 11 o'clock. It's a very scary game for Alabama.
- 36:21Speaker 2: So if this game were at 2.30, it'd be a
- 36:23Speaker 2: big play for you.
- 36:24Speaker 3: I would feel much, much better about this. But again,
- 36:27Speaker 3: DeBoer 16-5 against ranked teams, that's always scary. It just
- 36:31Speaker 3: feels like this Mississippi State team is a different team
- 36:33Speaker 3: this year altogether. And I do think one streak is
- 36:36Speaker 3: coming to an end. Alabama's won 16 against them. I
- 36:40Speaker 3: don't know if that continues, but these streaks that we're
- 36:42Speaker 3: seeing in the SEC, like what was Alabama's win streak
- 36:45Speaker 3: against Tennessee before they lost it in 2023? 13, 14, 15?
- 36:50Speaker 1: So 17 years, they won 15 streaks.
- 36:53Speaker 2: 15, yeah.
- 36:53Speaker 3: You're not going to see these. I don't care. Georgia
- 36:56Speaker 3: versus Vanderbilt. In NIL and Transfer Portal, these streaks can't
- 37:01Speaker 3: continue like that. I mean, 16 straight against Mississippi State
- 37:04Speaker 3: is crazy.
- 37:05Speaker 2: It is pretty crazy. And I was thinking that yesterday
- 37:07Speaker 2: when we were looking at win streaks, just ongoing win
- 37:10Speaker 2: streaks with Indiana's up at 20 now. Like, I just–
- 37:14Speaker 2: Indiana has done it in this era, so it's kind
- 37:15Speaker 2: of hard to say this, but I just don't know
- 37:17Speaker 2: how many teams are ever going to get to 20 anymore.
- 37:18Speaker 3: That'll be 21 tomorrow.
- 37:19Speaker 2: 22 is the longest win streak in this series between
- 37:22Speaker 2: Alabama from 1958 through 1979. Again, that's what Wyatt said.
- 37:26Speaker 2: I asked him the question. I asked Matt the question.
- 37:28Speaker 2: I mean, wouldn't you guys just assume– all right, state fans–
- 37:32Speaker 2: Who's your biggest rival? Ole Miss. All right, state fans,
- 37:34Speaker 2: who's your second biggest rival? And he made the point,
- 37:38Speaker 2: it's kind of like what you say about Bedlam. Just
- 37:40Speaker 2: because they play every year doesn't make it a rivalry.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Bedlam was not a rivalry because Oklahoma State never won it.
- 37:45Speaker 2: So it's hard to call Bama and Mississippi State a rivalry.
- 37:48Speaker 3: Yeah, and I would have thought LSU was kind of
- 37:50Speaker 3: a rival with Mississippi State, but they always dominated them.
- 37:52Speaker 2: I know, but I would say if you polled state fans,
- 37:54Speaker 2: who do you most want to beat when this was
- 37:56Speaker 2: an annual game? Ole Miss won, Alabama too. I think
- 37:59Speaker 2: Bama comes in two for most of your state fans.
- 38:01Speaker 3: Yeah, one, two, but I, you know.
- 38:02Speaker 2: But they never did, so it's hard to call it
- 38:04Speaker 2: a rivalry.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, but you get what I'm saying though, right?
- 38:09Speaker 2: Like if you, if you base the rivalry on who
- 38:11Speaker 2: the fan base most wants to beat, it would be
- 38:13Speaker 2: Ole Miss one, Bama two.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Well, not everything is as clear-cut as Auburn. You have
- 38:18Speaker 1: Georgia and Alabama. Alabama's got Auburn and Tennessee.
- 38:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, some of those are very clear-cut. Like
- 38:22Speaker 2: LSU's is not particularly clear-cut.
- 38:24Speaker 3: No, I mean, LSU and Ole Miss is.
- 38:26Speaker 2: It's more now than it ever has been. Yeah, but
- 38:29Speaker 2: it has a name. And after that, for me, most
- 38:32Speaker 2: of my career, it's been.
- 38:36Speaker 3: LSU, Alabama, LSU, Florida.
- 38:38Speaker 2: For the last 15 to 20 years, LSU fans have
- 38:40Speaker 2: wanted to beat Alabama more than any team on their schedule.
- 38:43Speaker 2: I mean, there's no doubt Alabama was their biggest rival
- 38:45Speaker 2: over the last 15 years.
- 38:47Speaker 3: You guys agree that DeBoer year one to year two,
- 38:50Speaker 3: year two was better.
- 38:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Year three now, this would be his first ever 5-0
- 38:56Speaker 3: start at Alabama. If he gets the win. Yeah, if
- 39:00Speaker 3: they get the win tomorrow. I'm just saying this thing
- 39:01Speaker 3: is trending in the right direction with a win for
- 39:03Speaker 3: Alabama for year three to be even better than year two.
- 39:06Speaker 3: And this team, at least early in September, looks better
- 39:10Speaker 3: than the team last year.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Everybody in the country is just, when they mention Alabama now,
- 39:15Speaker 1: they're in everybody's playoff, and they're all like, man, this
- 39:18Speaker 1: Alabama team looks really good. This Alabama team looks real.
- 39:21Speaker 1: This Alabama team looks the part. That's what the nation
- 39:24Speaker 1: is saying.
- 39:24Speaker 3: That's what the whole.
- 39:25Speaker 1: Nation is saying. They were not saying that. Alabama was
- 39:27Speaker 1: never mentioned in the offseason. So they've been impressed. through
- 39:30Speaker 1: four weeks. We'll see what they do in game five.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Maybe we get a prediction when we do our way-too-early
- 39:36Speaker 1: headlines in our next segment when we come back on
- 39:39Speaker 1: the next round presented by Hard Rock Bets here on
- 39:41Speaker 1: Sporting State.
- 39:43Speaker 2: Back with you on the next round presented by Hard
- 39:45Speaker 2: Rock Bet here on Sporting State. We're about to do
- 39:47Speaker 2: our headlines here. Show number 1,295 today. And the headlines
- 39:52Speaker 2: are one of our favorite things to do here on
- 39:54Speaker 2: Friday where we try to project what's going to happen
- 39:58Speaker 2: on Friday night or Saturday.
- 40:01Speaker 1: In the old days, there used to be these things
- 40:02Speaker 1: called newspapers.
- 40:03Speaker 3: You'd open them up. They had cool headlines and some pictures.
- 40:05Speaker 1: We'll get to that right after LT tells us about
- 40:08Speaker 1: Clay Travis Law.
- 40:10Speaker 3: Hey, accidents do not wait for a good time. That's
- 40:13Speaker 3: why our friend Clay Travis started at Clay Travis Law,
- 40:16Speaker 3: built a firm around one idea. People deserve someone willing
- 40:20Speaker 3: to pay attention, ask those hard questions, and push back
- 40:23Speaker 3: when things don't add up. And truck wrecks, ride share accidents,
- 40:35Speaker 3: medical malpractice, premises liability, product liability. If you were wrong,
- 40:39Speaker 3: they want to hear about it. Case evaluation is free.
- 40:41Speaker 3: No charge, no pressure, no hassle. Just tell them your story.
- 40:44Speaker 3: Go to ClayTravisLaw.com or call 877-222-4444. That's ClayTravisLaw.com. No case
- 40:52Speaker 3: too big or too small. All right.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Tomorrow's headlines today. Let's start with mine, Tyler, if you
- 40:58Speaker 1: are forced or whoever punches that up. We'll go to
- 41:01Speaker 1: the college football inquire today. Senate confused Sooners offense, not
- 41:07Speaker 1: at Hawks game. Katie Britt wasn't even involved and she
- 41:12Speaker 1: ends up wearing it.
- 41:13Speaker 2: In a stunning show of bipartisan confusion, the Senate was
- 41:16Speaker 2: left scratching its head this week after reports surfaced that
- 41:19Speaker 2: the Sooners offense was nowhere to be found at the
- 41:22Speaker 2: Hawks game.
- 41:22Speaker 1: If you know the headlines. Senators from both sides of
- 41:25Speaker 1: the aisle questioned how a high-powered offense could go missing
- 41:28Speaker 1: during such a highly anticipated matchup, with one lawmaker joking, quote,
- 41:33Speaker 1: I thought they were supposed to show up, not disappear.
- 41:36Speaker 3: The AI wrote that. I just give it the headline.
- 41:39Speaker 3: AI just writes that out off of the picture. It's
- 41:41Speaker 3: pretty well written. It really is.
- 41:42Speaker 2: Do we even need newspaper writers anymore? Do we even
- 41:44Speaker 2: need those anymore?
- 41:45Speaker 3: You gave away your secret sauce.
- 41:47Speaker 1: No, I mean, I give them the headlines, and then
- 41:50Speaker 1: it writes this. I didn't even know it wrote this.
- 41:51Speaker 1: It just pops up.
- 41:52Speaker 3: It's learning what we're doing here, I think. Yeah, and
- 41:55Speaker 3: then some.
- 41:57Speaker 2: Soon it'll be draining your bank account.
- 41:59Speaker 1: More Auburn leaks. This time it's the freeze-era recruiting plan.
- 42:04Speaker 3: All golf.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Grand National tee times, Pinehurst tee times, Sweetens Cove Golf
- 42:09Speaker 2: Club tee times.
- 42:10Speaker 3: Is Grand National the cradle of American golf?
- 42:13Speaker 2: I've never really heard it called that. Cradle, that's Pinehurst. Yeah,
- 42:17Speaker 2: I just couldn't squeeze them all into one picture there.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Here's what the AI wrote about this. More leaked documents
- 42:23Speaker 1: have surfaced, and this time it's a recruiting plan strategy
- 42:26Speaker 1: from the freeze era. Sources say the plan includes outdated strategy,
- 42:30Speaker 1: a heavy focus on relationships, and a bizarre section on
- 42:34Speaker 1: boiled peanuts equal commitments. Insider claims the leak has already
- 42:38Speaker 1: caused a stir on the planes, with one recruit saying...
- 42:41Speaker 1: I don't even know what a freeze is.
- 42:43Speaker 3: Why would boiled peanuts make it into the AI right now?
- 42:46Speaker 3: I don't know. It was crazy. I thought it was creative.
- 42:47Speaker 2: Y'all like boiled peanuts? They're okay.
- 42:50Speaker 3: A little mushy. I haven't had them in a while. Yeah,
- 42:52Speaker 3: it's a.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Texture thing for me. Really, all you're in for is
- 42:55Speaker 1: the salt water.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Pretty much, yeah. Or the Cajun spice if you get
- 42:58Speaker 2: Cajun boiled peanuts.
- 42:59Speaker 3: So not for me.
- 43:00Speaker 1: And finally, Saban flag for delay of sandwich. Former Alabama
- 43:04Speaker 1: head coach Nick Saban. This is the best written one,
- 43:06Speaker 1: by the way. Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban is
- 43:09Speaker 1: under investigation after being flagged for a delay of a sandwich,
- 43:13Speaker 1: according to campus officials. Witnesses say Saban was seen in
- 43:17Speaker 1: the team kitchen taking too long to prepare his lunch,
- 43:21Speaker 1: causing a 17-minute delay in the expected meal schedule. The
- 43:24Speaker 1: NCAA is reportedly reviewing the incident, which could lead to
- 43:28Speaker 1: further scrutiny of Saban's post-coaching activities.
- 43:31Speaker 3: That order gets there too quick for him, too. That
- 43:33Speaker 3: was a little too quick. That was a little too quick.
- 43:36Speaker 1: But that staring at that tomato lasts forever long.
- 43:39Speaker 3: It's owned you all season. It really has.
- 43:43Speaker 7: It has.
- 43:43Speaker 1: I went back and watched the commercial last night. It
- 43:45Speaker 1: does not seem as long in the online version as
- 43:48Speaker 1: when I'm sitting there waiting for the game to come back.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Wait, you pulled it online?
- 43:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I had to borrow that picture.
- 43:54Speaker 3: Borrow. All right, Lance, give us your headlines. We are
- 43:59Speaker 3: going to Columbia. Missouri. Well, this is actually the Gator Gazette. Oh, yeah. Thanks, Chapel,
- 44:06Speaker 3: for making the road trip. Florida all in that ass
- 44:09Speaker 3: as gators run wild and punish Mizzou. You could see
- 44:11Speaker 3: that in Adelaide.
- 44:13Speaker 2: Ball dog.
- 44:14Speaker 3: That's what Floridians would throw out there, right? Get that
- 44:18Speaker 3: T-shirt ready.
- 44:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 44:20Speaker 3: I don't think this is going to happen, but it
- 44:21Speaker 3: was a good headline. Yeah, I like the headline. So
- 44:24Speaker 3: you don't think Florida will? I think much like Alabama
- 44:28Speaker 3: is going to lose, I think Florida is going to lose.
- 44:30Speaker 3: I think it's going to be a top-seater every day
- 44:31Speaker 3: in the SEC. Top-seater every day, yes. Wow, you got
- 44:35Speaker 3: Alabama losing down to the bottom. Well, that's my headline.
- 44:40Speaker 3: I like Tyler chiming in. He gets very creative. Go ahead, Tyler.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Super Camario gets a one-up against Coach Kalen DeBowser.
- 44:49Speaker 3: You know the Super Mario game. Well played.
- 44:51Speaker 2: I like that.
- 44:53Speaker 3: Damn, look at Eli. He's holding that ass, too.
- 44:57Speaker 1: I got chat GPT to do this for me.
- 45:00Speaker 2: It is a masterpiece.
- 45:02Speaker 3: It's very good.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Ow!
- 45:05Speaker 3: Ball dog. No bueno. At first, it tried to make
- 45:09Speaker 3: him hold his head, and I was like, no, no, no, no, no.
- 45:11Speaker 3: Make him hold his butt. I mean, if you're a Missourian,
- 45:14Speaker 3: this defense has not been good this year, and it
- 45:15Speaker 3: was a really good defense last year. You're doing everything
- 45:18Speaker 3: you can to see how good Aaron Filo is. I mean,
- 45:22Speaker 3: let's slow down this run. I don't know if you
- 45:25Speaker 3: can do it. Now, I've scribbled down. They still have
- 45:27Speaker 3: the 38th ranked defense.
- 45:30Speaker 2: Who, Mizzou?
- 45:30Speaker 3: Yeah. It doesn't look like that. Yeah. Well, I guess
- 45:36Speaker 3: we expect more out of Missouri. 38th, I don't know
- 45:38Speaker 3: if that's good. Their dead last in play has given
- 45:41Speaker 3: up of 10 yards plus in the SEC. They've given
- 45:43Speaker 3: up 51 of those.
- 45:44Speaker 2: I mean, if you look at their numbers, only one
- 45:47Speaker 2: team has rushed for over 100 yards, and it was
- 45:49Speaker 2: last week at State.
- 45:51Speaker 3: But they gave up 499 yards last week. They did.
- 45:56Speaker 2: This is where your run defense gets tested.
- 45:58Speaker 1: It's what makes it scary for Alabama because Alabama, they
- 46:02Speaker 1: gave up some long plays against South Carolina. They just
- 46:05Speaker 1: did not turn into any points. All right, Brown, what
- 46:07Speaker 1: is your headlines? We are going to go to the
- 46:10Speaker 1: Sooner Scooper.
- 46:12Speaker 2: Oklahoma head coach spotted shopping during bye week for a
- 46:14Speaker 2: quarterback costume. Courtback.
- 46:17Speaker 7: Missing the R.
- 46:23Speaker 3: You know, there is a thing called spell check. The
- 46:25Speaker 3: funny thing is he sent me a headline and then
- 46:29Speaker 3: was like, no, no, don't use that one. There was
- 46:30Speaker 3: a typo in it. And then he sent me another
- 46:33Speaker 3: one with the subject line, use this one in all caps.
- 46:36Speaker 3: What you could have fixed it, right? I mean, I
- 46:39Speaker 3: didn't look at it beforehand, but I could have checked it.
- 46:42Speaker 2: There's nothing the back room lives for than me screwing
- 46:44Speaker 2: something up. They live for that.
- 46:47Speaker 3: It's just funny that you went back to correct it.
- 46:48Speaker 2: I mean, Tyler had the bullet in the chamber. Wouldn't
- 46:51Speaker 2: even let me finish the headline before.
- 46:53Speaker 7: Go back!
- 46:54Speaker 3: Scott pointed it out.
- 46:55Speaker 2: I know Scott pointed it out. I might realize that
- 46:57Speaker 2: at all.
- 46:58Speaker 3: I don't go to AL.com anymore because of all the pop-ups.
- 47:01Speaker 3: But when I do, there is always typos. Really?
- 47:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:05Speaker 3: Like, I never saw them in newspapers.
- 47:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:07Speaker 3: But boy, they just... I don't know. I guess.
- 47:10Speaker 2: Oklahoma head coach spotted shopping during bye week for a
- 47:13Speaker 2: quarterback costume. I mean, let's don't lose the fact that
- 47:16Speaker 2: Brent Venables is at Spirit Halloween shopping for a quarterback costume,
- 47:19Speaker 2: even though quarterback is misspelled. As I try to tell
- 47:21Speaker 2: you guys, there's a reason papers are going out of business.
- 47:23Speaker 2: I think they're all sold out. Page two, the Kelsey
- 47:27Speaker 2: family is, in fact, able to host all friends for
- 47:30Speaker 2: a football watch party and have all games on.
- 47:32Speaker 3: Thank God we finally have gotten to the bottom of that.
- 47:34Speaker 3: Can you guys imagine going to a watch party and
- 47:36Speaker 3: they give you one-fourth of a TV?
- 47:37Speaker 5: I know.
- 47:38Speaker 3: That's what I hate about that commercial. And it's only
- 47:40Speaker 3: one TV?
- 47:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:40Speaker 3: And everyone's got to pile in the same room. And
- 47:42Speaker 3: we're watching in the living room? And you've got to
- 47:44Speaker 3: hang out with the Kelsies? Now, Jason Kelsey does come
- 47:46Speaker 3: in with that big old sandwich. It does look good
- 47:48Speaker 3: when he walks in with it.
- 47:49Speaker 2: But, I mean, just in the commercial, they name all
- 47:51Speaker 2: these games we need, but you put up a quad box.
- 47:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
- 47:55Speaker 1: You did not even give me all the games that
- 47:57Speaker 1: you said in the commercial. Go back and count the names.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Flo needs all the games.
- 48:02Speaker 3: She needs all the games. If I have a friend
- 48:05Speaker 3: that comes over and pulls for a certain school.
- 48:08Speaker 2: I will give them one of the side TVs. I've
- 48:10Speaker 2: had to do this before. I don't like it, but
- 48:12Speaker 2: I'll do it. Unless it's the game I want to watch,
- 48:14Speaker 2: you're not getting the main TV. Right. You get the
- 48:16Speaker 2: side TV. Page three, by the way, Northwestern opens new stadium.
- 48:20Speaker 2: Student body stunned to discover school has a team. It's
- 48:23Speaker 2: big tonight. They got Penn State there.
- 48:24Speaker 3: That is tonight.
- 48:25Speaker 2: That is.
- 48:26Speaker 1: I can't wait to see what that stadium atmosphere is
- 48:28Speaker 1: like because I talked about this on the Conor O'Gara
- 48:31Speaker 1: show earlier. You can go see Conor's show every Friday,
- 48:35Speaker 1: and it's dropped right now. The games I've seen at
- 48:39Speaker 1: Northwestern over the years, and they've had good teams occasionally,
- 48:42Speaker 1: has usually been when Ohio State or Michigan was there.
- 48:45Speaker 3: That's right.
- 48:46Speaker 2: It's packed with their fans.
- 48:48Speaker 3: And it's usually at least 50-50.
- 48:49Speaker 4: Yep.
- 48:51Speaker 2: And it's usually an upset that has caused me to
- 48:54Speaker 2: turn it on, upset in the making. And the stadium
- 48:57Speaker 2: is very silent because half the stadium is like, oh, God,
- 49:00Speaker 2: we may lose to Northwestern. The two things I think
- 49:03Speaker 2: about Northwestern's old stadium, Ryan Field. And I don't guess
- 49:06Speaker 2: this one is called. Is this still called Ryan Field?
- 49:07Speaker 3: It's called Ryan Field. The Ryan family is paying for it.
- 49:09Speaker 3: The Ryan family has got some. Yeah, they got money.
- 49:11Speaker 2: They got some chuck.
- 49:12Speaker 3: What did they do? A little thing we like to
- 49:14Speaker 3: call the Constitution. I don't know. Anyway. I think that's
- 49:18Speaker 3: old money.
- 49:18Speaker 2: That must be old money because it's was an expensive
- 49:20Speaker 2: field they built. The two things I remember is, number one,
- 49:23Speaker 2: it was always a destination straight out of game day
- 49:26Speaker 2: before we put the big games at 11 a.m. I mean,
- 49:28Speaker 2: I cannot tell you how many times Coach would put
- 49:30Speaker 2: the headgear on and all the stuff's going crazy. And
- 49:34Speaker 2: we go to Pam Ward and Todd Christensen.
- 49:36Speaker 3: And crickets.
- 49:37Speaker 2: At Ryan Field. And it's about three quarters full.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Purdue and Northwestern today on the shores of Lake Michigan.
- 49:43Speaker 3: What was the other thing that jumped for you? The
- 49:45Speaker 3: other thing that.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Jumped for me is I remember that night game with
- 49:48Speaker 2: Ohio State. It's still in Scott Van Pelt's Bad Beats Open.
- 49:53Speaker 2: When Brent Musburger's doing the game with Herbstreet.
- 49:56Speaker 3: I had Northwestern that night.
- 49:57Speaker 2: That's as bad a beat as it's going to get.
- 50:00Speaker 7: Hey, by the way, the answer to how they made
- 50:02Speaker 7: their money?
- 50:03Speaker 3: Insurance.
- 50:04Speaker 2: The Ryan family in insurance?
- 50:06Speaker 7: Yeah, the insurance industry.
- 50:08Speaker 3: What company?
- 50:08Speaker 7: Led by billionaire patriarch Patrick G. Pat Ryan.
- 50:12Speaker 3: Oh, Pat Ryan.
- 50:12Speaker 2: Pat Ryan. Patty Ryan.
- 50:14Speaker 3: Yeah, the thing I remember were the little humps of
- 50:17Speaker 3: grass on the sides.
- 50:18Speaker 2: And it seemed like you had a lot of seats
- 50:20Speaker 2: that were beyond the end zone that were still, like,
- 50:22Speaker 2: they were bad seats.
- 50:23Speaker 3: That's the way they used to build the other stadiums.
- 50:25Speaker 3: Because they built a track and field as well, right?
- 50:27Speaker 3: That's right. Rose Bowl was... There's more seats to me
- 50:31Speaker 3: from goal line out.
- 50:32Speaker 2: But these were like sideline seats that extended well beyond
- 50:36Speaker 2: the end zone. It looked like those were just terrible
- 50:38Speaker 2: views from those seats.
- 50:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I am very interested to see how Penn State
- 50:41Speaker 3: plays tonight after melting down, leading by 17 over Wisconsin.
- 50:45Speaker 3: Both of these teams only have one turnover, which is
- 50:48Speaker 3: kind of crazy. And you look at Aiden Childs, he's
- 50:50Speaker 3: been good. Ten total touchdowns. Do I have a play
- 50:53Speaker 3: on this up at Lance's Lock right now? 7 o'clock
- 50:55Speaker 3: on Main Fox, Penn State 3-1, Northwestern 2-1. Penn State,
- 51:00Speaker 3: the last number I had, Hard Rock Bet was 2.5.
- 51:03Speaker 3: 2.5 is right. Total of 45.5.
- 51:06Speaker 1: So that game and see what the atmosphere looks like
- 51:09Speaker 1: in the new stadium. We'll talk about the point spreads
- 51:12Speaker 1: at Hard Rock Bet, some good plays, not good plays.
- 51:15Speaker 1: Todd Furman is coming up on the other side here
- 51:18Speaker 1: as we roll on.
- 51:20Speaker 5: And.
- 51:21Speaker 1: Get ready for another big football. Week five of the
- 51:23Speaker 1: college football season continues tonight. Two good games we'll talk about.
- 51:27Speaker 1: That's Pitt and Virginia Tech, Penn State Northwestern. As we
- 51:31Speaker 1: get ready to head to break here, Tyler, I will
- 51:33Speaker 1: point out that Pitt and Virginia Tech making a little history.
- 51:38Speaker 1: For the first time ever, there are two teams that
- 51:41Speaker 1: are 4-0 or better undefeated who are facing off that
- 51:46Speaker 1: are in the power conferences, that are facing off, and
- 51:48Speaker 1: neither team are ranked. So we've never had power conference
- 51:51Speaker 1: teams be 4-0 or better playing another 4-0 or better team,
- 51:56Speaker 1: and neither team are ranked.
- 51:57Speaker 3: Well, that's pretty remarkable. You know the last time Virginia
- 52:00Speaker 3: Tech was 5-0, if they win this game tonight?
- 52:02Speaker 2: Frank Beamer?
- 52:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 52:05Speaker 2: Michael Vick?
- 52:06Speaker 3: It was 2005.
- 52:06Speaker 4: 2005.
- 52:06Speaker 3: Not quite Michael Vick, yeah.
- 52:09Speaker 1: When we come back, Furman gives us his thoughts on that.
- 52:12Speaker 1: This is the next round presented by Hard Rock Bet
- 52:14Speaker 1: on Sporting States.
