- 0:18Speaker 1: gives Pooh a party and we say good bye. One
- 0:23Speaker 1: day when the sun had come back over the forest,
- 0:26Speaker 1: bringing with it the scent of may, and all the
- 0:29Speaker 1: streams of the forest were tinkling happily to find themselves
- 0:34Speaker 1: their own pretty shape again, and the little pools lay
- 0:38Speaker 1: dreaming of the life they had seen and the big
- 0:40Speaker 1: things they had done. And in the warmth and quiet
- 0:44Speaker 1: of the forest, the cuckoo was trying over his voice
- 0:47Speaker 1: carefully and listening to see if he liked it. And
- 0:51Speaker 1: wood pigeons were complaining gently to themselves in their lazy,
- 0:55Speaker 1: comfortable way that it was the other fellow's fault, but
- 0:59Speaker 1: it didn't matter very much on such a day as this.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Christopher Robin whistled in a special way he had, and
- 1:07Speaker 1: owl came flying out of the hundred acre wood to
- 1:11Speaker 1: see what was wanted. Owl, said Christopher Robin.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I am going to give a party.
- 1:19Speaker 1: You are are?
- 1:20Speaker 3: You?
- 1:21Speaker 2: Said Owl, and it's to be a special sort of
- 1:24Speaker 2: party because it's because of what Poo did when he
- 1:27Speaker 2: did what he did to save Piglet from the flood.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Oh that's what it's for, is it?
- 1:34Speaker 1: Said Owl?
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yes, So will you tell Pooh as quickly as you
- 1:38Speaker 2: can and all the others because it will be tomorrow.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Oh it will, will it, said Owl, still being as
- 1:46Speaker 1: helpful as possible.
- 1:48Speaker 2: So will you go and tell them?
- 1:49Speaker 5: Owl?
- 1:50Speaker 1: Awl tried to think of something very wise to say,
- 1:54Speaker 1: but couldn't, so he flew off to tell the others,
- 1:58Speaker 1: and the first person he told was Pooh Pooh. He said,
- 2:04Speaker 1: Christopher Robin is giving a party, Oh, said Pooh, And then,
- 2:10Speaker 1: seeing that Owl expected him to say something else, he said.
- 2:15Speaker 5: Will there be those little cake things with a pink
- 2:18Speaker 5: sugar icing.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Awl felt that it was rather beneath him to talk
- 2:23Speaker 1: about little cake things with pink sugar icing, so he
- 2:26Speaker 1: told Poo exactly what Christopher Robin had said and flew
- 2:30Speaker 1: off to ere a party for me, thought Poo to himself,
- 2:37Speaker 1: how grand, And he began to wonder if all the
- 2:41Speaker 1: other animals would know that it was a special Pooh party,
- 2:45Speaker 1: and if Christopher Robin had told them about the floating
- 2:49Speaker 1: bear and the brain of Poo and all the wonderful
- 2:52Speaker 1: ships he had invented and sailed on. And he began
- 2:56Speaker 1: to think how awful it would be if everybody had
- 2:58Speaker 1: forgotten about it, and nobody quite knew what the party
- 3:02Speaker 1: was for. And the more he thought like this, the
- 3:05Speaker 1: more the party got muddled in his mind, like a
- 3:08Speaker 1: dream when nothing goes right. And the dream began to
- 3:11Speaker 1: sing itself over in his head until it became a
- 3:15Speaker 1: sort of song.
- 3:16Speaker 5: It was an anxious Pooh song. Three cheers for Pooh,
- 3:24Speaker 5: for Who? For Pooh? Why? What did he do? I
- 3:27Speaker 5: thought you knew he saved his friend from a wedding.
- 3:30Speaker 5: Three cheers for Bear, for whear for Bear. He couldn't swim,
- 3:35Speaker 5: but he rescued him, he rescued who. I'll listen do
- 3:39Speaker 5: I'm talking of Pooh? Of who of Pooh? I'm sorry,
- 3:43Speaker 5: I keep forgetting well. Pooh was a bear of enormous brain.
- 3:47Speaker 5: Just say it again, of enormous brain, of enormous what.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Well?
- 3:51Speaker 5: He ate a lot and I don't know if he
- 3:53Speaker 5: could swim or not, but he managed to float on
- 3:56Speaker 5: a sort of boat, on a sort of what well,
- 3:58Speaker 5: a sort of pot. So now let's give him three
- 4:01Speaker 5: hearty cheers. So now let's give him three hearty witches.
- 4:05Speaker 5: And I hope he'll be with us for years and
- 4:07Speaker 5: years and grow in health and wisdom and riches. Three
- 4:10Speaker 5: cheers for Pooh, for who for Pooh? Three cheers for Bear,
- 4:15Speaker 5: for where for Bear? Three cheers for the wonderful Winnie
- 4:19Speaker 5: the Pooh. Just tell me, somebody, what did he do?
- 4:24Speaker 1: While this was going on inside him, Owl was talking
- 4:28Speaker 1: to ere Yor, said Owl.
- 4:32Speaker 4: Christopher Robin is giving a party.
- 4:35Speaker 6: Very interesting, said Eyre. I suppose they will be sending
- 4:40Speaker 6: me down the odd bits which get trodden on, kind
- 4:44Speaker 6: and thoughtful, not at all. Don't mention it.
- 4:48Speaker 4: There is an invitation for you.
- 4:51Speaker 6: What's that like?
- 4:52Speaker 2: An invitation?
- 4:54Speaker 6: Yes? I heard you? Who dropped it?
- 4:58Speaker 4: This isn't anything to eat. It's asking you to the
- 5:00Speaker 4: party tomorrow.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Or shook his head slowly.
- 5:06Speaker 6: You mean Piglet, the little fellow with the excited ears.
- 5:10Speaker 6: That's Piglet. I'll tell him.
- 5:13Speaker 1: No, No, said Owl, getting quite fussy.
- 5:18Speaker 6: It's you, Are you sure?
- 5:21Speaker 4: Of course? I'm sure, Christopher Robin said, all of them,
- 5:24Speaker 4: Tell all of.
- 5:25Speaker 6: Them, all of them, except Yore.
- 5:29Speaker 1: All of them said Owl sulkily. Ah said Eyoorre.
- 5:36Speaker 6: A mistake, no doubt, but still I shall come. Only
- 5:41Speaker 6: don't blame me if it rains.
- 5:44Speaker 1: But it didn't rain. Christopher Robin had made a long
- 5:49Speaker 1: table out of some long pieces of wood, and they
- 5:52Speaker 1: all sat round it. Christopher Robin sat at one end,
- 5:57Speaker 1: and Pooh sat at the other. And between them on
- 6:00Speaker 1: one side were Owl and Eore and Piglet. And between
- 6:04Speaker 1: them on the other side were Rabbit and Rue and
- 6:08Speaker 1: Kanga and all rabbits friends and relations. Spread themselves about
- 6:13Speaker 1: on the grass and waited hopefully in case anybody spoke
- 6:17Speaker 1: to them, or dropped anything or asked them the time.
- 6:22Speaker 1: It was the first party to which Ru had ever been,
- 6:26Speaker 1: and he was very excited. As soon as ever they
- 6:29Speaker 1: had sat down, he began to talk. Hello Pooh, he squeaked, Hello, Rue,
- 6:37Speaker 1: said Pooh. Ru jumped up and down in his seat
- 6:40Speaker 1: for a little while, and then began again, Hello Piglet.
- 6:45Speaker 1: He squeaked. Piglet waved upon him, being too busy to
- 6:50Speaker 1: say anything. Hello Eure, said Ru. Eore nodded gloomily at him.
- 6:57Speaker 6: It will rain soon, you see if it.
- 7:00Speaker 1: He said, Ru looked to see if it didn't, and
- 7:05Speaker 1: it didn't, so he said hello, Awl, and Owl said hello,
- 7:11Speaker 1: my little fellow, in a kindly way, and went on
- 7:14Speaker 1: telling Christopher Robin about an accident which had nearly happened
- 7:18Speaker 1: to a friend of his whom Christopher Robin didn't know.
- 7:22Speaker 1: And Kenga said to Rue, drink up your milk first, dear,
- 7:26Speaker 1: and talk afterwards. So Rue, who was drinking his milk,
- 7:31Speaker 1: tried to say that he could do both at once,
- 7:34Speaker 1: and had to be patted on the back and dried
- 7:36Speaker 1: for quite a long time afterwards, when they had all
- 7:40Speaker 1: nearly eaten enough, Christopher Robin banged on the table with
- 7:44Speaker 1: his spoon, and everybody stopped talking and was very silent,
- 7:50Speaker 1: except Rue, who was just finishing a loud attack of
- 7:53Speaker 1: hiccups and trying to look as if it was one
- 7:55Speaker 1: of Rabbit's relations. This party, said Christopher Robin, is.
- 8:01Speaker 2: A party because of what someone did, and we all
- 8:04Speaker 2: know who it was, and it's his party because of
- 8:07Speaker 2: what he did, and I've got a present for him,
- 8:10Speaker 2: and here it is.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Then he felt about a little and whispered where is it?
- 8:18Speaker 1: While he was looking York coughed in an impressive way,
- 8:22Speaker 1: and began to speak friends.
- 8:25Speaker 6: He said, including oddments, it is a great pleasure, or
- 8:31Speaker 6: perhaps I had better say, it has been a pleasure
- 8:34Speaker 6: so far to see you at my party. What I
- 8:37Speaker 6: did was nothing. Any of you, except Rabbit and Owl
- 8:42Speaker 6: and Kanga would have done the same. Oh and Pooh.
- 8:47Speaker 6: My remarks do not, of course apply to Piglet and Rue,
- 8:51Speaker 6: because they are too small. Any of you would have
- 8:55Speaker 6: done the same. But it just happened to be me.
- 8:59Speaker 6: It was not I need hardly say with an idea
- 9:03Speaker 6: of getting what Christopher Robin is looking for now.
- 9:07Speaker 1: And he put his front leg to his mouth and said,
- 9:10Speaker 1: in a loud whisper try.
- 9:13Speaker 6: Under the table, that I did what I did, but
- 9:17Speaker 6: because I feel that we should all do what we
- 9:20Speaker 6: can to help. I feel that we should all.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Humph, said Rue accidentally, Rue dear, said kinga Reproachfully, was
- 9:30Speaker 1: it me, asked Rue, a little surprised.
- 9:35Speaker 3: What's your talking about?
- 9:37Speaker 1: Piglet whispered to Pooh. I don't know, said Pooh rather dolefully.
- 9:43Speaker 3: I thought this was the old partty.
- 9:46Speaker 5: I thought it was once, but I suppose it isn't.
- 9:51Speaker 3: I'd sooner it was yours and eos.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Said piglet, So would I said pooh hup, said Rue again.
- 10:01Speaker 1: As I was saying, said Eore, loudly and sternly, as.
- 10:07Speaker 6: I was saying, when I was interrupted by various loud sounds.
- 10:11Speaker 6: I feel that here.
- 10:13Speaker 1: It is, cried Christopher Robin, excitedly.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Pass it down to silly old Pooh.
- 10:19Speaker 1: It's for Pooh, for Pooh, said Eyore.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Of course it is the best bear in all the world.
- 10:28Speaker 6: I might have known, said Eyore. After all, one can't complain.
- 10:35Speaker 6: I have my friends. Somebody spoke to me only yesterday,
- 10:40Speaker 6: and was it last week or the week before that?
- 10:43Speaker 6: Rabbit bumped into me and said bother. The social round
- 10:48Speaker 6: always something going on.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Nobody was listening for They were all saying.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Open it, Pooh, what is it?
- 10:57Speaker 5: Pooh?
- 10:58Speaker 1: I know what it is, No, you don't, and other
- 11:02Speaker 1: helpful remarks of this sort. And of course who was
- 11:06Speaker 1: opening it as quickly as ever he could, but without
- 11:09Speaker 1: cutting the string, because you never know when a bit
- 11:12Speaker 1: of string might be useful. At last, it was undone.
- 11:18Speaker 1: When Poo saw what it was, he nearly fell down.
- 11:22Speaker 1: He was so pleased. It was a special pencil case.
- 11:27Speaker 1: There were pencils in it marked B for bear, and
- 11:31Speaker 1: pencils marked h B for helping bear, and pencils marked
- 11:36Speaker 1: b B for brave Bear. There was a knife for
- 11:40Speaker 1: sharpening the pencils, and India rubber for rubbing out anything
- 11:44Speaker 1: which you had spelt wrong, and a ruler for ruling
- 11:48Speaker 1: lines for the words to walk on, and inches marked
- 11:51Speaker 1: on the ruler in case you wanted to know how
- 11:53Speaker 1: many inches anything was. And blue pencils and red pencils
- 11:58Speaker 1: and green pencils for saying special things in blue and
- 12:03Speaker 1: red and green. And all these lovely things were in
- 12:07Speaker 1: little pockets of their own in a special case which
- 12:11Speaker 1: shut with a click when you clicked it, and they
- 12:15Speaker 1: were all for Pooh, Oh, said Pooh, Pooh, Pooh, said
- 12:23Speaker 1: everybody else except Eyore. Thank you, growled Pooh. But Eore
- 12:29Speaker 1: was saying to himself.
- 12:31Speaker 6: This riding business, pencils and what not overrated, if you
- 12:36Speaker 6: ask me, silly stuff. Nothing in it.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Later on, when they all had said good bye, bye
- 12:45Speaker 1: bye and.
- 12:47Speaker 5: Thank you, thank you.
- 12:50Speaker 1: To Christopher Robin, Pooh and Piglet walked home thoughtfully together
- 12:54Speaker 1: in the golden evening, and for a long time they
- 12:57Speaker 1: were silent.
- 13:00Speaker 3: When you wake up in the morning pill.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Said Piglet. At last, what's.
- 13:05Speaker 3: The first thing you say to yourself?
- 13:07Speaker 5: What's for breakfast?
- 13:09Speaker 1: Said Pooh?
- 13:11Speaker 5: What do you say, Piglet?
- 13:14Speaker 3: I say, I wonder what's going to happen? Exciting to day.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Said Piglet. Pooh nodded thoughtfully. It's the same thing, he said.
- 13:27Speaker 2: And what did happen?
- 13:29Speaker 1: Asked Christopher Robin when next morning?
- 13:35Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Could you think and tell me in Pooh sometime.
- 13:39Speaker 1: If you wanted it very much? Pooh does, said Christopher Robin.
- 13:46Speaker 1: He gave a deep sigh, picked his bear up by
- 13:49Speaker 1: the leg, and walked off to the door, trailing Winnie
- 13:52Speaker 1: the Pooh behind him. At the door, he turned.
- 13:55Speaker 2: And said, coming to see me have my bath?
- 13:59Speaker 1: I might, I said.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Was Pooh's pencil case any better than mine?
- 14:06Speaker 1: It was just the same, I said. He nodded and
- 14:10Speaker 1: went out, and in a moment I heard Winnie the
- 14:13Speaker 1: Pooh bom bom bomp going up the stairs behind him.
- 14:21Speaker 1: End of chapter ten. End of Winnie the Pooh by A. A.
