Transcript
- 0:00Hello everybody and welcome back to the space news pod.
- 0:03We're here with Neil again over there, every kind of break this
- 0:06time. And in today's episode, we're
- 0:10going to talk about deer bone. And kind of, I guess how crazy
- 0:16it is basically, we've been talking about this for last
- 0:20couple days and like part here where the holes part into it.
- 0:25We're not gonna, We're Not Gonna, you know, we're not going
- 0:28to sugarcoat. This is sounds Nuts, yours away,
- 0:34perhaps we should introduce. What dear moon is first.
- 0:36Well, yeah, that's a good idea, crazy part, but it's also crazy.
- 0:40So, here's the here. Hold on, let me, let me share my
- 0:43screen here real quick and we can show you what dear moon is.
- 0:48So this is a dear Moon website. And basically, the goal of dear
- 0:55moon is to fly, I guess nine crew members.
- 1:00From Earth Leonardtown? Yeah.
- 1:02Neither tenant from Earth around the Moon and back and they're
- 1:06not astronauts. They're just regular people.
- 1:08Yeah, well I, as I understand it, the be 88 non astronauts and
- 1:14and one or two crew members which are getting sort of
- 1:17running the thing. Yeah.
- 1:18Oh, that's good. Yeah, we need.
- 1:20Yeah, this is what about somebody up there?
- 1:24Yeah, cuz I if I were to go, I wouldn't know what I was doing.
- 1:28You would get training though? Before you get up there.
- 1:31So that would be nice. You got a little bit of training
- 1:33absolutely but they want to go in 2023 which for me they
- 1:38haven't even successfully launched and landed of early
- 1:42prototype rocket of Starship. Yeah.
- 1:45So in as 2021 right now it's March 20 21.
- 1:50Yeah, we're at SN 11 Accord of the way into the 2021.
- 1:53Yeah. Yeah it's coming up pretty fast.
- 1:58Yeah. Well, you know, but you know
- 2:00what SpaceX is made making remarkable progress down, and
- 2:03Boca Chica. They want to get to orbit by
- 2:07July 1st. Internal memos said they want to
- 2:09get to orbit by July 1st. Yeah, that's the internal Target
- 2:13if they make it by July 1st. Awesome.
- 2:17Like that would be insane, but even after that, they've got to
- 2:22prove that they can do it over and over and over right with no
- 2:27complications. They have to have like 100
- 2:29flights of this thing before people get into it.
- 2:31Yes. What I'm thinking I would think
- 2:33a hundred flights without error. Yeah you know like you can't
- 2:37have ninety nine flights of problems in the one that worked,
- 2:39you can write your last. Yeah.
- 2:43And that number 99 Works than they're like, all right people
- 2:45get in there, right? Yeah.
- 2:48Crew members, dear Moon, you're up next?
- 2:50Yeah, no, that's that wouldn't work.
- 2:54So yeah. To a couple years from now.
- 2:56Twenty twenty-three. It's MZ and he's finding the
- 3:02thing. So I'm Z is funding this thing.
- 3:04He's an artist and he's a billionaire.
- 3:08So he has a ton of money, he's funding everybody to go like
- 3:12every for the whole mission. Everybody seats the whole
- 3:15launch, the whole ship everything.
- 3:18He's basically giving them money to develop Starship right now,
- 3:21so he can take this trip with a bunch of people.
- 3:24Yeah, I wonder how far behind Starship would be if it didn't
- 3:27have This guaranteed money sitting there.
- 3:32True, you know, to get at the time, bfr off the ground and now
- 3:35Starship that it turned into butts like think about that.
- 3:42They, well, you can see it. You can look down at Boca Chica,
- 3:45ins and see the progress that they've made.
- 3:47And and how much they've had to build and how much they still
- 3:50have to build to create a Starship to create a orbital
- 3:56vehicle, and that takes a lot of money.
- 4:00Yeah, it's billions of dollars, you know, possibly hundreds of
- 4:06billions of dollars. By the time.
- 4:07Dear moon is in the air, you know.
- 4:10So, you know, the initial funding of it from MZ.
- 4:15You know, he's made his fortune through I think is fashion,
- 4:18right? I think it's fashion.
- 4:19Like, I think he had a Chic clothing clothing brand or
- 4:21something. I'm not exactly.
- 4:23It might have been. I can't, I can't quite remember,
- 4:25to be honest with you. Yeah, I can't either the top of
- 4:28my head, honey. He he Started out as a
- 4:30skateboarder and he worked his way into.
- 4:32I thought it was a media company personally but he'll maybe it
- 4:35could be wrong. Yeah, he was a skater.
- 4:37That's why I was like, oh, this dude skates.
- 4:39That's rad like, that's cool. He's the homie.
- 4:42So yeah, when I tweeted him a couple times and I was like, you
- 4:45know, F when I saw two, dear Moon thing I was like, hey,
- 4:47that's skate in the Starship. You know, I never got an answer
- 4:51but I'd assume flying to the Moon.
- 4:55You're not going to have an extra skateboard laying around
- 4:57floating around in a Starship, so yeah.
- 5:00Well, maybe create your own Gravity by spinning around the
- 5:03inside of the. Oh, yeah.
- 5:05It's just looped is continuous loop the whole time.
- 5:07Yeah. Hey, why keep me Keep Me fit and
- 5:10healthy The Whole Trailer. You can you can pay for your
- 5:15trip by doing that scientific study.
- 5:19Yeah. Right.
- 5:19That makes sense. I can probably get some
- 5:21sponsorships for that. You know, there's got to be
- 5:23somebody, that'll pay for that for sure.
- 5:26So in just one is paying for this video, look at that.
- 5:31He exact, I don't think they need advertisement.
- 5:33But yeah, I think they're good, but just recently Neil and I
- 5:38actually have applied to do the dear moon mission and that's
- 5:42kind of where this whole conversation started from is
- 5:44like, hey, man, would you actually go like what?
- 5:49Like, I don't know. Would you go?
- 5:51I don't know. And then, yeah.
- 5:54So I got to be up front and say I really don't know, like I was
- 5:58a little bit more Confirm confirmative on that.
- 6:03I would say no, I would not go. Yeah, it depends on where I'm
- 6:09at, you know, like been in a couple years who knows what's
- 6:11going to happen. But right now like I got I got
- 6:15like nowhere else to be so I might as well be in a Starship
- 6:19going to the Moon, you know, might as well take my camera
- 6:22with me, I'll make a make a Blog about it.
- 6:24Some of the put on the channel That might be kind of cool.
- 6:26Say that I would love to go. I think it's either one thing in
- 6:30the world that I don't know, not in the world but outside the
- 6:32world that I would love to be like being on Starship, 45, plus
- 6:36days, and almost six days, going around the moon, and that whole
- 6:41experience sign me up, I told they want to do it.
- 6:45My heart wants to do this so bad, but my head gets in the way
- 6:50and he says, this is the most dangerous thing anybody has ever
- 6:53done. Yep.
- 6:55Yep. That's yeah.
- 6:57That's the other thing too. Like, do you want to go out like
- 6:59this? Like do you want to go out like
- 7:02just trying out this experimental rocket?
- 7:04Do you want to be that guy that, you know.
- 7:06Hey, from your hometown. Do you want to go out as a hero?
- 7:09Like you'll be remembered forever.
- 7:10Regardless of what happens when the Starship, right?
- 7:14Do you want to be that guy? You want to be the guy that's
- 7:16like, all right, we're ready for takeoff and that's something
- 7:18catastrophic happens. And you remembered for the
- 7:21failure of this ship and, you know, your mourn forever for it,
- 7:24or do you want to be a hero and come back to the ticker-tape
- 7:26parade and be the first crew of civilians to go around.
- 7:30The moon and back. So definitely historical event
- 7:33definitely. Yeah, these names will be
- 7:34remembered forever, you know, it's just like the the Apollo 11
- 7:39astronauts who died on the launch pad, just like Neil
- 7:43Armstrong and Buzz and the other guy Michael Collins, I believe.
- 7:50But you know, it on Apollo 11 like it's, it's huge and they'll
- 7:56be remembered forever for sure. Yeah.
- 7:58And you know, the Them is that they might be remembered one way
- 8:02and you might be remembered the other way.
- 8:05This is dangerous. There's a reason that, you know,
- 8:09going back to the original Apollo and Gemini and Mercury
- 8:12missions. These guys were test pilots.
- 8:14They were already crazy. Yeah, they're already
- 8:18risk-takers. They're already ready to give
- 8:22their life to to progress the the program.
- 8:28You know, and unfortunately some of them did parish and what
- 8:32other ones made it. Yeah.
- 8:35And we remember them. It's now you're asking for
- 8:39regular people to do that. Yeah.
- 8:42And take on that role. It's really interesting.
- 8:47It is an interesting concept because if think about it like
- 8:50I've always looked up to astronauts as Heroes you know.
- 8:53So why are they Heroes and wire regular people not Heroes?
- 8:58Like, regular people who go to their office job every day or,
- 9:01you know, they have, they have three kids, they have a family,
- 9:05you know, they have their sedan in their driveway, the white
- 9:07picket fence all that stuff. Why are those people?
- 9:08Not Heroes but the astronauts are, but now these regular
- 9:12people can go to the Moon. Yeah.
- 9:15And become astronauts become Heroes.
- 9:17Like the astronauts. It's like this.
- 9:19This weird Universe we're just stuck in it a couple years.
- 9:24Yeah, you know, it's it's an amazing thing.
- 9:27I wonder, you know, We're talking about sending people to
- 9:31do on to the moon and Starship and in my head it kind of is
- 9:35like this is the very first manned mission anywhere by
- 9:38Starship and it's not going to be obviously, they're going to
- 9:41send up SpaceX astronauts first. You know they have to prove that
- 9:46this is a thing that works and it proved that they can get to
- 9:49orbit and land. Again the show is brought to you
- 9:52by backblaze, I use back place to back up my podcast.
- 9:55My video files, all of my writing stuff.
- 9:58If and all my photos and you get unlimited computer backup for
- 10:01Macs and PCs for just $7 a month, you can back up your own
- 10:05documents photos videos. Drawings projects, all of your
- 10:09data and access your backed up data from anywhere in the world
- 10:12using the web app and you can access the files on your mobile
- 10:15to iOS Android apps all covered. And this is a cool part.
- 10:19This is my favorite part. You can restore it by mail, a
- 10:21hard drive will come to your house with all your data shipped
- 10:24to your door. I could come to your business to
- 10:26and you can restore return. Fun program.
- 10:29So you can buy a hard drive restore, send the hard drive
- 10:32back within 30 days and get a full refund.
- 10:34So basically they ship you this hard drive and then you ship it
- 10:38back and you don't ever pay for it which is the perfect program
- 10:41for somebody who has huge files. You don't want to waste days and
- 10:44days, downloading terabytes and teraflops of data.
- 10:48And if you're worried about accidentally, deleting your
- 10:49files to bucks extra month, you can increase your retention
- 10:53history to one year, and I use it for all of my video files
- 10:57comes in. Or handy.
- 10:59So seven dollars plus two dollars nine dollars a month and
- 11:01you get everything backed up. He's a mind for up to a year.
- 11:04And if you use the URL back, place.com slash Ilan, you get a
- 11:10fully featured 15-day. No credit card required, free
- 11:14trial, check it out, play with it.
- 11:16Start protecting yourself from potential, bad times, back your
- 11:19stuff up. It's recommended by the New York
- 11:22Times ink, macworld PC World. Life wire wired, Tom's guide and
- 11:27I defied Mac and And it's recently been listed on the
- 11:30NASDAQ stock exchange under be lze.
- 11:32So you know they're legit back plays has committed more than
- 11:35ever to bring an easy and affordable data storage that you
- 11:38can trust don't be that person that forgot to back up their
- 11:41important files. We've got your back sign up for
- 11:44a free 15 day trial no credit card required go there sign up I
- 11:49you with it it's really powerful.
- 11:51It is really easy to use so go to back plays.com / heel on
- 11:55backblaze.com Eli. Lon backblaze.com Ceylon they
- 12:02have to do that many many times before this happens.
- 12:07So at that time maybe it'll be very safe.
- 12:11Yeah. I mean they will have to some
- 12:14people orbit. They're going to have to do the
- 12:15whole whatever. They've done with Falcon 9 and
- 12:18crew. Dragon got to do that again.
- 12:20They might have to dock with the ISS.
- 12:23You know, in between now and the diarmuid project.
- 12:26So if they do that that'll be insane.
- 12:28That would be so cool. Could you imagine?
- 12:30Could you imagine like so cool like 10 people in a Starship
- 12:35Just Like pack them in there and then throw them into the ISS
- 12:38like here you go. Yeah.
- 12:40Like key to mine Starship is. This is sing a song.
- 12:54Yeah and it's basically like launch again, is s every time
- 12:58you launch a Starship so you have enough room.
- 13:01I mean the people that are in the Starship can literally just
- 13:04stay in the Starship. They don't have to go into the
- 13:07ISS of course you live in. You know for sure you could just
- 13:09live in there you know and then come back to earth and do that
- 13:12whole thing. But Six-Day trip around the Moon
- 13:15then they have living quarters is no other way to get around
- 13:17it. Yeah so yeah it'll be it'll be
- 13:21interesting to see what happens in the next year.
- 13:23If they do get to orbit by July first.
- 13:25Yeah, you know it then they have the whole rest of the year to
- 13:28perfect not even perfected. Just like iterate on that until
- 13:32the next year after that, where they can, but it takes so long
- 13:36to make something human flight ready?
- 13:40Oh, yeah, you know, there's all sorts of things.
- 13:42All sorts of red tape that you have to go through in order to
- 13:44make it work. So yeah.
- 13:48How does that? Yes, not just the red tape.
- 13:49It's all the engineering issues to, right?
- 13:51Yep. Obviously I We both watch SpaceX
- 13:55with interest on a daily basis. We're trying to figure out what
- 13:59they're doing and how they're doing it and and what's coming
- 14:01up the sheer volume of engineering tasks that go
- 14:06through my head that they have solve.
- 14:09Is it makes me You know, stressed stressed, there's just
- 14:15so much that has to be solved before this thing happens and
- 14:20I'm yeah yeah. And the so they've already
- 14:23succeeded with this with Falcon. You know, plenty of times
- 14:27they've had 10 years of a building and iterating Falcon 9
- 14:31to where it is right now and they can launch star.
- 14:34Like 60 Sterling said, like successfully every time they've
- 14:37launched numerous humans to the eye.
- 14:41ISS and they're going to be launching more next year, this
- 14:45year, and next year, and the year, after that, when does that
- 14:48switch over to Starship, you know how much time is it going
- 14:51to take them? Some people are saying it's
- 14:53going to take to like 20, 30 to get the Starship ready for just
- 14:59a human capable flight. Yeah, ten years ish.
- 15:03Well, 88 years ish, probably one and a half when it happened.
- 15:08Right? Exactly.
- 15:10You know, I mean is it going to At the end of 20 23, it'll be
- 15:13the end of 2013. That'll be like December 29th,
- 15:17December 30th. They'll be like, wow, we got to
- 15:19have these extra couple days to fine-tune some more.
- 15:21Some stuff there would be a delay that we scrubbed.
- 15:25Yeah. Yeah.
- 15:27So that, you know, we're talking about this last night, but what
- 15:30about the, the idea that Starship might like, the dear
- 15:34Moon thing might not happen. You know what happens if like
- 15:38down the lion there Tessa missing out and everyone just
- 15:41kind of like this is dangerous. We don't want to do this
- 15:45anymore. This is sketchy.
- 15:47Like it looks cool and it's a good idea, man.
- 15:49I gave you all this money to develop this thing.
- 15:51Just keep the money. I just don't want to go to the
- 15:53Moon. It sounds really scary.
- 15:55Like, what? I mean, there's there's got to
- 15:59be something the contract where they MZ can.
- 16:01Just back out, there's got to be.
- 16:04It has to be for sure. It was going to be And the other
- 16:07side too. Right.
- 16:08Yeah they sex is got to get to a point where it can say, nope,
- 16:11we're not doing this. We're not risking it that badly.
- 16:14Let's put it off for a couple of years or let's revisit this
- 16:18later. Yeah, I would think that is
- 16:21pretty open-ended just because of all the ifs and ands and buts
- 16:25for sure. Yeah.
- 16:26But I mean, think about the implications of what this is,
- 16:29right? If they're pushing and Ilan, you
- 16:31know is pushing for 2023. There's a lot of implications
- 16:36They're that they're that much closer to Mars.
- 16:41Yeah, you know 2024 I guess the end of 24 it will be another
- 16:48Mars window. Yep.
- 16:50For launching. So that's huge to and you know
- 16:54that's on anyone's head and bring whether he's sending
- 16:58people or whether he's sending robots and set up equipment.
- 17:05You know what's on his head. So having this rocket ready for
- 17:082023 and having it human flight capable by then is is massive.
- 17:16I mean, I think I think that's why they're shooting for it's so
- 17:20early because they want they want to send stuff to Mars.
- 17:23They have to do some tests with this thing.
- 17:25And they're probably going to send, you know, before they send
- 17:28the people to the Moon, they'll probably send a just a regular
- 17:31Starship do some cardio, possibly, just like some cargo
- 17:34to plop down out of the moon or whatever.
- 17:36Even just even just orbit the moon or something, start with
- 17:39the move. Just some tests, you know, some
- 17:41science experiments. That see what happens to
- 17:44something as it goes around. Men, but they have to there's
- 17:48going to be a probably a few of those.
- 17:50I'm assuming, probably not going to be one.
- 17:52It's not going to be like the SLS.
- 17:54It's not going to be like, SLS like hey, here's Jane Rocky.
- 17:57What are you guys? Get at the top of it?
- 17:59Like we got one shot at this. We got.
- 18:02Here we go. Yeah, let's just see if this
- 18:04works. That's man.
- 18:07That's another thing that I'm like, the dear Moon thing.
- 18:11I feel like it could be sketchy, but the SLS thing, I'm like,
- 18:15man. And it just feels sketchy to me
- 18:18and I love it. I think it's an awesome rocket
- 18:21but it just feels like it's just people get into that thing too
- 18:24soon. You know, because it's not
- 18:26really going to be tested tested.
- 18:28You know, that the second flight that people get into it was it
- 18:32the first flight? It's not not very many that's
- 18:34for sure. Yeah.
- 18:35It's not any, you know, if they can do two flights like it,
- 18:37there everything is being poured into this.
- 18:41Yes, sort of one thing. It's pretty crazy.
- 18:45That That's got to that point. Yeah, it but that's, that's the
- 18:50old-school rocket building, right?
- 18:52That's you. Got it Pour all kinds of money
- 18:55into into one. Perfect thing.
- 18:59You have as much testing as you can to get that thing, perfect.
- 19:01And you launch it and hope that you got everything right?
- 19:06The others didn't make any mistakes.
- 19:08And then there's the SpaceX way of doing things, which is blow
- 19:11everything up, a bunch of times. Learn as you go learn, as you
- 19:15learn from those, hopefully. We learn from blowing everything
- 19:17up and, you know, SNES and honest and 10, probably not
- 19:22sm11. I'm going to give it an 80%
- 19:23chance of Landing, but I think, you know, the just iterative
- 19:31process of SpaceX, I think it's possible.
- 19:35So, like, as we're seeing it, I think it's possible that they
- 19:38could do the dear Mom thing in 2023, but it's going to be like,
- 19:43that's fast, man. Like that's really fast 2023
- 19:47part. That gets me.
- 19:48I think. Yeah, having it that fast makes
- 19:51me say. I truly believe they will launch
- 19:55the rocket and we were talking about this before the show will
- 19:58build launch the rocket. It'll get to orbit.
- 20:01It'll go around the Moon. It'll come home and it's the
- 20:05last 10 minutes that whole Six-Day period that scare the
- 20:09heck out of me. Yeah, let me let me show
- 20:11everybody that because that is the scary part.
- 20:14This is the this is the orbit, right?
- 20:16Here. Yeah, yeah, I can go through
- 20:19sections, one two. So ones launch tubes, the
- 20:22separation three, you're in orbit for, you're on your way to
- 20:26the moon five. You begin your fly by the moon.
- 20:31And this is the real exciting part of your flying through the
- 20:33moon, and then a loon. You're at the other side of the
- 20:36moon, you're as far away from Earth.
- 20:38Is anybody's ever been seven, earthrise.
- 20:42That'll be beautiful without ya, through that big window.
- 20:47And you know, what will be pointed right at them, right at
- 20:49Earth and then you're on your way back and then from 5 days,
- 20:5422 hours, 43 minutes to five days, 23 hours and one minute,
- 21:01twenty a little less than 20 minutes is the most frightening
- 21:05part of this entire thing. And it always is, right?
- 21:08It always is for any that party. Want their ending?
- 21:10Yeah. Yeah.
- 21:12But that's We have yet to show that.
- 21:16That's this whole flip belly flop.
- 21:19Flip and land is going to work. Yeah, you know, you saw SN 10,
- 21:26land, it landed hard Atlanta, very hard.
- 21:30Yeah, we don't have any legs yet.
- 21:33I mean, I don't want to get too technical with this podcast
- 21:35we're doing today, but that's the most frightening part for
- 21:37me. This is the re-entry and
- 21:40Landing, okay? Yeah, I yeah, totally the
- 21:43launch. They can launch the thing.
- 21:46They've already shown that they can launch the thing.
- 21:47You know, what's beyond one goes up this year, began to probably
- 21:51goes up this year, you know, by July, hopefully be in one being.
- 21:55Three will be go up this year, for sure.
- 21:57Yeah, one of those is going to orbit in July by July 1st.
- 22:02Yeah. Hopefully, you know, but the but
- 22:06the launch. Yeah.
- 22:06Launch the the orbit, the park orbit or hear everything
- 22:12mid-course Corrections. It seemed like Probably kind of
- 22:15sketchy that the mid-course correction.
- 22:16I'd be kind of scared because it's correction as, you know, if
- 22:20they miss, if they miss, you're going to Mars or somewhere,
- 22:22that's you. Yes, yeah, yeah.
- 22:24You're going someplace else? Yeah.
- 22:26I like, but you know what I mean?
- 22:28They did in the 60s. Yeah. 70s.
- 22:31I'm sure they can do it now. Yeah, we'll be I'm doubly fine
- 22:34with that. Yeah, you know I'll say will be
- 22:37fine because if I do go on the flight obviously we will the
- 22:41crew and myself will be fine. When When we go on this flight,
- 22:46no doubt over and make sure everybody's safe.
- 22:49Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, that's how it works.
- 22:53But there's already been. So there's already been somebody
- 22:57picked, right? And we know Damien chazelle, is
- 23:02that who it is Chasm chisel? Something like that?
- 23:05Yeah, address the H DZ e, LL e, and also director Emily invited
- 23:10him last year. He has not said, yes.
- 23:13Yes, No, he has a wife and family so he's thinking about
- 23:19it. See ya.
- 23:21Theoretically one of the one of the eight spots could be taken
- 23:24already. Yeah.
- 23:25So in be a year and has an answer yet two years instead of
- 23:29thing. Yeah.
- 23:31So yeah. All the road map.
- 23:35Here's a road map to by the way, let me show you this stuff to
- 23:39the roadmap is pre-registration by March 14th. 8:00 initial
- 23:47screening. All right, step 2, we did that.
- 23:50Neil. And I did that we already sent
- 23:51in our our pre screenings here, our initial screening.
- 23:55So next is an assignment. Don't know what that is.
- 23:59I guess we have to do homework. Yeah, I guess.
- 24:02I don't know. Then there's an online interview
- 24:05maybe assignment might have something to do with the art
- 24:07side of it, right? He's always wanted to take
- 24:09artists up there as opposed to just regular people.
- 24:12I think. Yeah, it's interesting that you
- 24:14sort of opened it up to the planet when right from the
- 24:17beginning it was I want to take artists, I want them to make
- 24:20something up there. Yeah, the world can benefit
- 24:23from, you know, that was his original goal, but then opening
- 24:27it up to the World At Large. Is interesting.
- 24:31I'm not sure how that works but maybe the assignment has
- 24:33something to bring it back to the art.
- 24:36Like what will you do? Yeah.
- 24:38How are you? Cannot review their, how you
- 24:40contribute? How we you better the universe
- 24:42and life when you get back? Yeah, I think mess - yeah, I'm
- 24:47going to be the do the be the Devil's Advocate advocate here.
- 24:51And I think know, artists wanted to go know what?
- 24:54No, I just wanted to go and he's just like, no one wants to go.
- 24:57So maybe this maybe the director.
- 24:59Really. Yes.
- 24:59It was. You know, one of his one of his
- 25:02his shoe-ins and said no, yeah I get it, I get it, open this up
- 25:09to the rest of the world but maybe but also maybe the artists
- 25:15are everybody, you know, and there's so many artists out
- 25:18there that he doesn't know, you know.
- 25:20And who's to say, who's an artist?
- 25:23Who's not an artist and everybody, everybody, everybody
- 25:25is an artist, right? Everybody can be an artist.
- 25:27We just some people don't have the, they don't feel like they
- 25:31can. Would be.
- 25:31Or they have never had the opportunity to show those skills
- 25:35or but in there, it's in everyone of us.
- 25:39Yep, exactly. And maybe that's why you open it
- 25:43up that, you know maybe it wasn't that everybody said no,
- 25:48all the artists. He's like, hey do you want to go
- 25:49on this cool thing with me we're going to be this really scary
- 25:53Mission and we might all perish but do you want to like gonna go
- 25:57hang out for like five days, five and half days?
- 26:00Some That will fly around the Moon together.
- 26:02Then everyone's like, dude, you're crazy.
- 26:04He was like, well, they probably started off with.
- 26:07Hey, do you want to hang out with me for six days?
- 26:10Yeah, yeah. That'll be awesome.
- 26:12Be great. Oh, by the way, you could
- 26:15perish. Yeah.
- 26:17Oh, do you want? Oh.
- 26:18Do you wanna hang out with me for six days while we fly around
- 26:21the moon in an untested spaceship?
- 26:25But they're all like, what? But after our assignment
- 26:31Whatever that is, we'll have an online interview and then we
- 26:34have a final interview in medical check-up of late.
- 26:36May of twenty Twenty-One. That's really fast, that's
- 26:39really fast. Yeah, so we might get chosen, we
- 26:43might be the chosen ones and we might get to step five by May.
- 26:47That's where they're like, wait what?
- 26:51That's only. That's a couple months to be
- 26:53serious about this, right? By the time you get to the
- 26:56assignment. You pretty much got a I would
- 27:00imagine your your s again shape that point, right?
- 27:03Yeah. Like your they don't want to be
- 27:05interviewing and giving assignments certainly
- 27:07interviewing they want interview a million people.
- 27:11Yeah. Only to find out that, you know.
- 27:13999,999, five of them don't want to go.
- 27:18Yeah, and you're left with five people.
- 27:20Yep. So you've gotta by the time that
- 27:25the online interview comes around.
- 27:26You got to be pretty. Assure that you're going to do
- 27:28this? Yeah like yeah I think.
- 27:33Yeah. I mean really fast process to
- 27:36from now till May? Yeah.
- 27:39A couple months. Yeah.
- 27:40It's a little down. I don't know how many they've
- 27:42gotten I know it was in hundreds of thousands after only a few
- 27:44hours. Yeah patience let's see. 10 K.
- 27:50MZ says we've received about 1 million pre-registrations from
- 27:54all 249 countries and areas in the world.
- 27:57At HTML for the selection. Process will be sent out soon.
- 28:00So over a million people have applied to this and we could be
- 28:06the lucky few people in a million out of there.
- 28:10I got it right? Yeah but yeah I mean you got to
- 28:13you know when I'm down a million people 28.
- 28:16Yeah who wants yeah you got to ask some serious questions off
- 28:22of fast in that process. Yeah yes it's not it's not fair
- 28:26now the This is a this is a life changer.
- 28:29Like you're not it's not going to be like oh cool will give you
- 28:32like here take a hundred thousand dollars a year.
- 28:35Here's full benefits, you know here's a company car.
- 28:39No one gets things to yourself and two and a half my
- 28:45weaknesses. Are that I care too much.
- 28:48My strength has said, I care too much.
- 28:50I'm sometimes I'm too prepared. Yeah, I just get to, uh, you
- 28:54know, one of my weaknesses that I get here.
- 28:56Early. She'd never go home on time.
- 28:59Yeah, I'm always here till 10:00 at night.
- 29:02That's a weakness if you ask me, but yeah, that's good.
- 29:06That's coming like probably, you know, the assignments probably
- 29:09gonna be in a couple weeks, whatever that is.
- 29:12And then the online interview is going to be, after they check
- 29:14out the assignment and I gotta get in shape, like I gotta get
- 29:18some weights, I got to get ripped and I gotta go on a diet.
- 29:21I gotta go, you know, being a medic.
- 29:23Why do you have to be in shape? You're just going to be floating
- 29:25around for six days. Yeah, that's true.
- 29:27Maybe I'll put that in my, you know, the assignment or the
- 29:29online interview. Dude, I'm going to be floating
- 29:31around. Who cares.
- 29:34Who cares? How much I weigh?
- 29:35I'm not going to weigh anything and again the space.
- 29:38That's so I'll just be in this tube the whole time, you know,
- 29:43no big deal and we did it. We did a poll on Twitter as well
- 29:47and I'll show you guys that we did.
- 29:49It's really quick poll today about who would go to Mars or
- 29:53who to go to the dear Moon project, would you fly to the
- 29:56moon in a Asics Starship and two years.
- 29:58Hashtag Dee Ramone. Check out our Twitter at space
- 30:01news pod by the way and we got 25 votes. 72 percent said yes.
- 30:0728% said no, it's yeah. I have it up for a day, one more
- 30:13day. So we're going to see how this
- 30:14goes and then I'll report back on Twitter and Discord and let
- 30:18everybody know how this goes but it's it's interesting to see,
- 30:22you know, 72% people said yeah I'll go yeah I mean it's not
- 30:26very scientific at this Point but you know seven hundred and
- 30:29twenty thousand people out of the million said, yep.
- 30:32So yeah. Yeah exactly.
- 30:35So I mean it seems like people are into it, they seem like they
- 30:42but those are also just random people on Twitter.
- 30:45It doesn't there's no science and those are people that are
- 30:54very interested, generally very interested in science.
- 30:57Space. Yep.
- 30:59But I mean you're going to get that with the dermal people to I
- 31:02think so. Yeah, very difficult.
- 31:07I wonder how many of them actually thought about it yet,
- 31:09you know? Like that's that's kind of the
- 31:11impetus to this podcast we're doing right now is we actually
- 31:15sat down with thought about it? Yeah, what does it mean to go on
- 31:20this Mission? Yeah.
- 31:21Nothing. I want nothing more in the world
- 31:23than to go on this mission, go around the moon and see the moon
- 31:26and And experience the whole thing.
- 31:28Like that's a dream come true for me but I'm not going.
- 31:36Yes. Yeah, too dangerous, they really
- 31:38super dangerous. Yeah, so that's the got people
- 31:41going to family. I've got friends.
- 31:43I've got ya kinds of things to think about.
- 31:46Yeah, you know, that's it's too much for me.
- 31:49Yeah. And that that breaks it down
- 31:51into like there's so much more to think about than just I'm
- 31:56going to be a legend, you know, like a lot of people think like
- 32:00this is my way out like this is, maybe this is my stepping stone
- 32:03to superstardom, like maybe I get a TV deal.
- 32:06Maybe I got a book deal. Maybe I get paid to do this like
- 32:09millions of dollars immediately because you're probably going to
- 32:11be like you're going to be super famous.
- 32:13After this, your life is going to completely change like you
- 32:18will have no privacy. You'll have to move away from
- 32:20where you are right now, because you're not going to be in a
- 32:22private place anymore. You won't be able to walk down
- 32:25the street without people knowing who you.
- 32:26Are you won't be able to go into restaurants without people
- 32:30talking to you, you won't be able to drive your own car
- 32:32probably because you know people will be following you around.
- 32:36Like Paparazzi will be following you around.
- 32:38It's going to be dangerous, driving me around and be fine.
- 32:40Yeah, there you go. You get free test.
- 32:42Maybe I'll do it for free car. I don't know, just for the car.
- 32:46Hey Ilan. If you're watching this, if I do
- 32:48this thing, can I get a free Tesla?
- 32:50Any Model. Model S because I just watched I
- 32:54just finished watching last week.
- 32:56Armageddon, nice. Just basically the same story.
- 33:01Yeah. You know, a group of people a
- 33:04people are chosen to save the planet.
- 33:07Okay. That part's.
- 33:08Not really, but, you know, non astronauts are sent up in space,
- 33:13shuttles, souped-up, space, shuttles, to save the planet and
- 33:17the chance and not coming back. Yeah, you know that the one with
- 33:21Bruce Willis. Yep.
- 33:22Okay, yeah. That's so cooler.
- 33:25Yeah. Spoiler alert that movie.
- 33:30I remember. Yeah.
- 33:31That was the what was the Deep Impact?
- 33:34That was the other one, right? That was that the same time?
- 33:36Yeah. It was like the same like
- 33:37better. Yeah, our weekend's better and
- 33:39that's the one with the Aerosmith theme song, right?
- 33:42Yeah. Don't want to miss a thing or
- 33:43whatever. That's right.
- 33:45Yes. Classic but yeah.
- 33:49Absolutely. But it's very similar and that
- 33:52came up before the sort of In fact that they were sending out
- 33:56these emails out, watch that before that happens.
- 33:59So interesting timing, but yes, and yeah, they went up there to
- 34:03save the planet. I think that's a noble, cause
- 34:05I'm not. So sure about just going around
- 34:07to see the moon. Yeah, it's, I don't think that's
- 34:10such a noble cause that I'm going to risk my family for it,
- 34:12alright? Right.
- 34:13And risk. Everything because you never
- 34:16know what's on the other side, you know, like that's the deck
- 34:18CX cassette existential crisis, right?
- 34:22It's like, what's after this. So would you just Go around this
- 34:25moon is like see something cool and then you're not here, the
- 34:27next day ever again and everyone that you loved and that loved
- 34:31you is you know like sad that you're gone.
- 34:34But also like you're a superhero now because you did this crazy
- 34:36thing, but also like if you do succeed if this does work, it's
- 34:43going to be insane. I don't know.
- 34:45I'm not sure I'm not entirely sold on on being a superhero, if
- 34:49it doesn't work. Yeah.
- 34:53Like we're not going up to Blow up an asteroid here and save the
- 34:56planet. We're going up to on a on a
- 34:59cruise around the Moon Drew and and leaving people behind.
- 35:05It's in my mind is selfish, right?
- 35:08Yes. It's selfish to go up there and
- 35:10risk, everything for the chance to see this.
- 35:14And if it fails, I don't think the internet and Twitter is
- 35:18going to see these peoples Heroes.
- 35:22Maybe not gonna see them as as Stooges, maybe.
- 35:25Yeah. I mean if they come home maybe
- 35:29maybe it'll be heroes if I don't I don't see the internet as as
- 35:34being very Forgiving plus the news cycle.
- 35:37Now, like this will probably cycle out of the news in a week,
- 35:40if something bad happens, even if something good happens, that
- 35:44a probably cycle out of the news in a week, like, you're not
- 35:46going to, you know, maybe you might get a couple interviews on
- 35:48National Television a couple times after that, you know, make
- 35:52a little bit of scratch on a side from all those little, you
- 35:55know, side gigs that you get like, endorsing like a used car
- 35:59dealership. You be able to go to comic
- 36:02conventions? Yeah.
- 36:04BS far there. Forever forever.
- 36:06Yeah, it'd be Comic-Con hero that way you want to be.
- 36:10That's what you have to ask yourself.
- 36:12People on the internet. You do you want to be a Comic
- 36:14Con hero. Hashtag dear Moon know, and like
- 36:19we're having fun and we're like were joking about it but it's
- 36:21also like there's some deep conversation you have with
- 36:23yourself in order to like to really think about this because
- 36:27I have thought about it. I thought about like how how
- 36:29much this would affect you know like if this were successful and
- 36:34I were Become you know, somebody of importance in the world's
- 36:39view for a month or whatever. How much we want money, would I
- 36:44make how set with my family? My friends, everybody I love,
- 36:48would how much money could I just give them?
- 36:51And just be like, everyone's rich, like, you know, how, how
- 36:54great would that be? But also, if I don't come back,
- 36:58that would suck because I do, I want to do other cool stuff.
- 37:01Like, like I got other stuff I want to do, man.
- 37:04So it's like, do you do all that?
- 37:05Other cool stuff before you go on dear moon like do I have to
- 37:07push this all like all the fun stuff that I ever wanted to do
- 37:10until like a year and a half. There's another conversation
- 37:13there but yeah what happens if you don't come back and and you
- 37:17know religion and that sort of thing gets in the way of you
- 37:20know another life and and all that stuff.
- 37:23Let's not get there. Yeah that's enough.
- 37:25You're not going to worry too much about what you didn't do if
- 37:27you don't make it back. That's true, that's true.
- 37:30I mean there's got yeah, so but if you do make it back, what are
- 37:34the consequences Consequences, other than you're rich, you
- 37:38know. There's yeah funds, there's tons
- 37:40of stuff certainly there. They're probably trying to weed
- 37:43out the people that are going up, just to be rich.
- 37:45Yeah, I hope so. I really like because if they're
- 37:48just going up, you know, if they just have like influencers, you
- 37:51know, people with selfie sticks the whole time.
- 37:53Like just being idiots at a Starship Just because they know
- 37:57that they're going to be internet famous, you know, get
- 38:00those guys out of there. I know that if I didn't have any
- 38:03family. And commitments and pretty
- 38:07lonely guy. I'm here, I'd go for sure.
- 38:10Everything I possibly could into this application.
- 38:13Yep. But as it stands.
- 38:16Yeah. And you make those like
- 38:18everybody makes those choices, you know.
- 38:20So it's like I am single. I got a YouTube channel, that's
- 38:25my job. I got friends that I love, I got
- 38:28family that I love but would they be like hey we'll your
- 38:33crazy for doing? This probably, but they also
- 38:35know that I was, you know, I have a skateboarder and I've
- 38:38always liked done, stupid stuff, my whole life.
- 38:41So they'd be like, it's kind of normal actually, like, I guess
- 38:44this is what you wanted ever since you're a little kid.
- 38:46So not a big deal like this. Get on that rocket, buddy.
- 38:51If you like, see you next week. Yeah, they'll be like, can you
- 38:53come, like, are we gonna be able to see the launch?
- 38:56I'll be like, I don't know. I have to talk to somebody.
- 38:58I don't know how this works. So right, you'll get me in
- 39:01right? Yeah.
- 39:02Right, exactly. Give me a seat.
- 39:04Good launch. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 39:05That's well who's going to run the channel when I'm in space?
- 39:08I can't run it from up there. So why not?
- 39:10Yeah why couldn't you just hold out your phone and and and shoot
- 39:14some podcast. We're going to have some
- 39:16starlink internet up there. Something it's got to be.
- 39:20Yeah. So we could do some live streams
- 39:22from the Starship. I've figured we were too worried
- 39:25about the channel. I fear the head if I'm a
- 39:27Starship Captain. I would appear the captain and
- 39:31the captain. Yep, I made it.
- 39:33I have I've arrived people, I'm the privileged Elite captain and
- 39:42you're rich, and I'm rich, and everyone that I know is Rich.
- 39:46So while everyone that I care about is Rich that everyone I
- 39:48know because I know a lot of people, but so my answer is
- 39:54maybe my answer is a strong. Maybe.
- 39:57I think I could do. I think I could probably be
- 39:58swayed in the way of like, yeah, I do it.
- 40:02Yeah, how come It am I to it? We'll see when I do the
- 40:06interview thing, whatever the next what is the next thing the
- 40:09assignment? See what the assignment is?
- 40:11Then I'll be like, that's what's going to that's what where it's
- 40:13going to be my Tipping Point. It's like, what is this?
- 40:16You have to make it through a process to get to the
- 40:17assignment. I think they're making a cut off
- 40:20right here. They're probably gone to 10,000
- 40:22or something. I would think, dude, I'm a
- 40:23skateboarder man to be an MC. We're going to we're going to
- 40:26rip it up, bro. Get I'm in it's easy.
- 40:30It's a Brotherhood. You got this, not bad.
- 40:34Guy. Yeah, not that guy anybody.
- 40:35But that guy I've seen his podcasts like.
- 40:38Now as I've seen a show about skateboarding for six days.
- 40:44Yeah like to did you Tre flip a set of stairs and 1994 but I
- 40:50did. All right, especially yeah.
- 40:53Sorry, yeah, exactly. That's exactly what's going to
- 40:56happen. Yeah.
- 40:58So you know, the other side of this is the risk to SpaceX.
- 41:03Yeah, we talked about this, the other day, if something goes
- 41:07wrong and they lose this crew, that's some pretty negative
- 41:11publicity. It's huge.
- 41:13Yeah. And that's something that, you
- 41:17know, has to be taken into account, as far as elon's
- 41:20concern. Yeah.
- 41:23It's a huge, huge risk. I mean, they've already taken
- 41:26risks from, you know, for the Falcon flights, you know, the
- 41:32crew Dragon family. It's a huge risk, but those are
- 41:34astronauts. Those are great professionals.
- 41:37Yes. They've been doing this their
- 41:38whole life. Yeah.
- 41:40So in this is what they wanted to do with her life.
- 41:42Like most people that are going on a Starship, probably weren't
- 41:45like a couple years ago. They weren't like, you know
- 41:47what? I'm going to be a Starship
- 41:49astronaut artist. You know, they weren't they
- 41:52weren't saying that there was no such thing.
- 41:55So in a year and a half or two years, everyone's going to
- 41:58become an astronaut you know, it takes a lifetime to become an
- 42:02astronaut. Let you know to like be really
- 42:05great at school, go to the Air Force or go to, you know,
- 42:09whatever and then become an astronaut like you.
- 42:12That's a whole process are the best of the best.
- 42:14Yep. You know these guys are smart
- 42:16physically fit. Multi multi talented in that's
- 42:22to fix everything and do run every science.
- 42:24Experiment on the ISS you've got to be able to learn a lot of
- 42:27stuff and retain it. So that's it.
- 42:30I'm out. I'm done.
- 42:32I can't do that. That's exactly the point.
- 42:35Yes, these aren't our astronauts going up.
- 42:37They said right, regular people, right.
- 42:39And the, the couple astronauts that'll be like running the show
- 42:42up there, you know, probably going to be very seasoned
- 42:44veterans and grizzled vets from The from probably NASA or, you
- 42:50know, retired, NASA astronauts, or in the process of becoming
- 42:54the next as NASA astronauts or something.
- 42:57But the men and women that do it for a living, you know, those
- 43:00are the people that will be freeing us around the Moon and
- 43:03back like we're just going to be like it's going to be like we're
- 43:05going to, you know, like a Delta flight or something.
- 43:09Yeah, you know, like an American Airlines flight, we're just
- 43:11going to be sitting in back in coach.
- 43:13And how are you on wants to do see until right?
- 43:16Not coach though hope he wants it first class.
- 43:18Gasps. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 43:23It's, it's an interesting thought for many, many reasons.
- 43:28Yeah, but I mean, it's an interesting that you're maybe
- 43:32strong. Maybe I'm a strong.
- 43:33Maybe I am. The other I had to think about
- 43:35it a lot the last couple days and I was like, nope.
- 43:40And then I was like, little baby.
- 43:42I was like well that'd be kind of cool.
- 43:43Actually this is like little kid will ya would look at me and go
- 43:48like you dumb, stupid idiot. Get on that stupid ship right
- 43:53now. You know, and that guy would be
- 43:55like what are you waiting for? This is your, this is what you
- 43:57wanted when you were a little kid and of course everyone's
- 43:59dreams and wants change as they grow older but it's also like
- 44:04well you only live once hashtag Yolo or whatever the children
- 44:07say nowadays so Yeah, the Moon is always captured my interest
- 44:15like that. I was born during the Apollo 11
- 44:17Mission. My name is Neil a video on that
- 44:22on that mission to X. So, in the moon's, always had a
- 44:26very special part for me, and this is, as I said earlier, this
- 44:29is my dream come true. I would love to go.
- 44:32But it's not just about me. Yep.
- 44:34It's not just about. Yeah, exactly.
- 44:36But you did do this. So you can at least, you know,
- 44:44pretend you can at least tell you I made it.
- 44:47I'm an astronaut. That's your number.
- 44:48That's your flight. Number over here and see you
- 44:51made it. You did it straight out of
- 44:55Canada. So, yeah, man, I'm a hard hard,
- 45:01maybe. And you Our a know, right?
- 45:05So that we can come up with gotta be hard.
- 45:06No, I'm okay. Wants to say yes.
- 45:08Yep. But your mind is like, nope.
- 45:10Okay. So yeah, I guess, I guess we're
- 45:16good. Are you good?
- 45:17I'm good. Yeah, that's cool station.
- 45:19That was good. I'd like I like the dear Moon
- 45:21thing and I hope everybody out there enjoyed it.
- 45:24And if you did, give us a thumbs up.
